If you've ever looked at certain dog breeds and wondered how much weight they're capable of carrying around, Dr. Lindsay Butzer, DVM, has your back! In a recent post, the vet introduced a sweet Basset Houndnamed Bentley who, at first glance, may look like any other, but there's a massive catch—and you won't believe what this big boy weighs!

I didn't have Bentley coming in at a whopping 80 pounds as my guess, so I'd say he wears it well! We're all familiar with a typical Basset Hound stature, which is low slung, long, and droopy, but I didn't think it was possible for one of these cute pups to tip the scales at this level.

There's no weight-shaming here. I think Bentley is one handsome gent, but there's another huge Hound competing for the "biggest" prize, and this pooch will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about the breed and their size!

The viral video shared by @bensonbassetfarm is a few months old, but it's the perfect comparison video to show how XL these sweet and gentle dogs can grow to be.

Dr. Butzer didn't specify whether Bentley is an American Basset Hound or the European version (and the same goes for Benson), but going by weight alone, I'd place my bets on the latter. Here are the key differences between the two:

• European Hounds are larger and heavier, even reaching 90 pounds or more, while American Bassets settle in around 40 to 65 pounds at most, but it can vary.
• They're also more wrinkly and athletic than the American breed.
• European pups are the typical choice for show, because of their droopier eyes, heavier bone structure, and longer ears.

Basset Hounds as a whole stand around 15 inches at the shoulder, and males might be a touch taller with more meat on their bones! One look at Bentley and Benson, and I think they both deserve to win the prize for "Absolute Units of the Year!"

The sweet dog-cat friendship is so charming, especially during these legendary cuddle sessions.

It's amazing when some dogs become obsessed with their cat siblings. So why do some dogs like cats more than others?

A lot of their affection for cats is based on instinctive behavior.

Dogs, which are descendants of wolves, have always been interested in smaller animals.

Now, yes, they may see cats as prey, but they may also see them as playmates.

Why Some Dogs Become Obsessed With Their Cat Siblings

Dogs and cats can also have strong emotional bonds if they are both properly socialized early on in their lives.

The fact that we see this cat remain calm even though Bennett is almost smothering her with love is a sign that she is fond of her canine companion.

According to Stephanie Gibeault, CPDT, certain dog breeds, such as the toy group and sporting group, are more likely to develop strong bonds with cats.

Clearly, this Frenchie is also part of that group!

As dogs get older, it's hard not to notice when their energy or spark starts to fade ever so slightly. The vibe shifts a bit, and everything feels a little quieter than before.

The TikTok video, shared by @cooperandmollygoldens, shows Cooper, a very beautiful older Golden Retriever, sitting on the couch with his tennis ball. Then, quickly, we see several other clips of the pup over time, each one with him sitting on the couch, eyes looking either really sleepy or sad. 

The video's caption reads: "Just get the second dog," and about halfway through, we meet Molly, a Golden Retriever puppy and Cooper's new little sister. And instantly, the clips we see in the video change the mood from sad to so full of energy. Cooper is having the best time of his life, even when the little puppy invades his space.

Now he has a playmate and a cuddle buddy, and people in the comments quickly fell in love with the two siblings.

How To Introduce a Puppy to Your Senior Dog

It really is so special to see how much happier the senior dog is with a new puppy to love and play with. If you're thinking of doing the same in your family, to get a younger pup when you have a senior dog at home, it's important to read up on some essential points you should consider first. Also, it might be good to check in with your senior dog's veterinarian, too, who might be able to weigh in on the potential. From there, introducing a puppy to your senior dog requires some planning, too, according to the experts. 

Whole Dog Journal says that introductions are vital if you want both dogs to be their happiest and healthiest, which is a given, obviously. There isn't a one-way checklist you can follow that'll work like a charm every time, but there are some pretty standard ideas. They explain that the overarching importance of introducing the dogs is to ensure both pups are at the forefront of their parents' minds. This includes ensuring they both feel safe, which is why they recommend introductions be conducted via see-through barriers rather than being held. This ensures both are safe, but it also allows them to move closer without being able to physically interact (yet), so they can get used to what they're seeing and their new sibling's scent, too. 

From there, Whole Dog Journal says pet parents need to remain patient and not rush the situation. When neither dog shows any negative body language cues, the pups can slowly have those barriers moved closer together and expect this to take days or weeks, not hours.

The slower the process goes, and the more you're really watching their body language, the smoother things will go when you're able to remove the barrier.

On a typical day, Elvis is the most adorable garden fairy who loves showing off his knitted hats, which serve two purposes: 1) They help stabilize his head enough to help him focus on a task (like weightlifting!), and 2) They make us all fall in love with his epic style!

Cerebellar hypoplasia affects the part of the brain that controls coordination and mobility, which can make cats walk with a wobble, but that doesn't mean they can't "practice" concentrating on their movements to get around and/or play.

Elvis and his tiny dumbbells show one way these incredible kitties can work on mobility with something they're already doing—playing! With enough traction to keep them safe, using training aids or toys can serve as physical therapy and help build their confidence. Even a simple feather wand is a good tool for ensuring they get enough exercise while strengthening their leg muscles.

CH can be mild or extreme, and some wobbly cats might need the help of a wheelchair or ramp to get around. Balance training—like setting up padded rails they can walk between—is another good way to encourage movement.

The nonprogressive condition might be frustrating for some kitties, but with a few lifestyle modifications and some sweet workout gear like Elvis', these cats can become unstoppable!

Some dogs and cats in shelters wait longer to be adopted than others. It can be due to age, health, or even size. In other cases, an animal may have a very traumatic past and is still trying to recover emotionally. The TikTok from @franflight shared Skippy's story, where the black cat was often passed over for adoption since he was emotionally closed off due to past trauma.

"Skippy continuously shut down at the shelter, which made him very hard to adopt," the onscreen text shared. "All he wanted to do with us was hide away."

Thankfully, a lovely couple opened their hearts to the feline fur baby and officially made him a member of their family.

"Skippy has waited 899 days to find his forever home," the story explained as the NAWS staff member lovingly held Skippy in her arms. "On his 900th day, someone finally saw him. Our sweet boy was finally going home."

Skippy Has a New Life

The feline fur baby settled into his new home and is now enjoying a life of love and security. The video featured clips of Skippy lounging in his cozy cat bed, playing with his feline brother, and pawing at a cat toy.

"Things are so different now that he found his patient and loving home," the text continued. "A home where he can be confident. A home where he has a big brother to help him grow his confidence. A home where he can finally be himself."

Moonbun and Fig are the cutest Ragdoll cats ever. Moonbun (government name: Moon Bunny) is the kitty in this video: she and her mom were having Girl Time in the bathroom. She's apparently never seen anyone do their hair before, because she was completely mesmerized.

She loved it. It seems like her favorite part was when her mom flipped her hair over: that's important for volume, but it's also important for kitty enrichment. I bet she would've loved to get her paws in it when her mom started flipping!

Why Giving Your Puppy New Experiences Is So Important

For puppies, the world is still brand new—which is why early experiences can have such a big impact on how they grow and respond to life later on. During their first few months, puppies are especially open to new sights, sounds, people, places, and routines, making it an important time to gently introduce them to the world around them.

Experts agree that positive experiences during this stage help puppies build confidence and feel more comfortable in unfamiliar situations as they get older. Whether it’s hearing new sounds, walking on different surfaces, meeting other dogs, or simply watching a sunrise for the first time like Bowie, these small moments help shape how they understand their environment.

Olivia Rodrigo's "Drop Dead" Online Trend

Rodrigo recently released the song "Drop Dead," the first single from her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which drops on June 12. The song sparked a viral online trend, with content creators using the music in a variety of ways, but the most popular seems to be highlighting the beginning of their relationships with their significant others.

When they're not stalking chicken on the internet and listening to Rodrigo's songs, they're playing outside and enjoying their time together.

The online community also really enjoyed the video, with users sharing their opinions. Someone wrote, "You are just so sweet and adorable and wanting your chicken." According to veterinarians, these chatty cats aren’t just noisy, they’re often highly social, affectionate, and eager to interact.

If cats had a talk radio channel, the Siamese would be the host, producer, caller and person yelling over the commercial break, says Dr. Tony Johnson, veterinarian at Noah’s Animal Hospitals and diplomate of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society as they are known as a vocal cat breed.

“These cats are famous for their loud, raspy and very opinionated voices,” he explains. “They don’t just meow, they command.”

Siamese cats are deeply social and tend to form strong attachments with their people. These talkative cats might even vocalize what they think about your activities, demand food updates and insist on being involved in everything you’re doing, whether or not they’re invited to the party.

The Siamese will also narrate their dissatisfaction in great detail until someone responds. “These cats do best in homes where someone is around often, because a lot of their vocalizing is driven by social needs,” says veterinarian Dr. Sarah Wooten.

“They often vocalize to initiate play, get attention or express frustration if they’re under-stimulated,” Wooten says. “A bored Bengal will often get louder, not quieter, to voice their needs."

Bengals are talkative partners whose communication can sound urgent, as if every moment is a matter of national security. Because of this, they thrive in environments that offer climbing structures, puzzle toys and regular interaction.

“These cats crave warmth, attention and human contact, and they’re usually very clear about all three,” Johnson explains. “These talktaive cats often communicate with frequent meows, body language, climbing, head bumps and dramatic blanket-seeking behavior.”

Overall, Sphynx cats are affectionate and demand to be physically close to their humans. They’re not subtle about their needs and rarely wait quietly for attention. “These hairless cats crave constant interaction,” Wooten says.

It's a Japanese breed of small to medium-sized hunting dogs, well-suited to mountainous terrain and hiking adventures. Although even the most energetic dogs will enjoy downtime, relaxing by their owners' feet while they work, this is definitely an occasional event. Even for Kylo.

Kylo can easily outrun his humans. In the video above, Kylo is competing against his parent trying to run faster than them. The human gives themselves a head start and, even with that advantage, still loses the competition. Kylo runs much faster and reaches his parents very quickly and easily.

For one woman, who shared her story on Reddit's r/rescuedogs, the grief of saying goodbye to her dog, who had been with her for eight years, was still fresh when she came across a photo of a pit bull at a local shelter.

Despite the fresh loss, she couldn't let this pit bull go. The dog was scheduled for euthanasia, and she had to intervene.

She drove to the shelter and saved the girl on a Monday, just hours before it would have been too late.

The woman wasn't planning to adopt another dog, but despite not feeling ready, she couldn't let this pit bull meet an untimely fate.

Immediate Transformation

In her Reddit post, the woman shared images of the rescued pit bull, and the difference between the before-and-after adoption photos is obvious, with many Redditors taking notice.

A New Chapter for Both of Them

Spring is bittersweet for me, because while I love the warmer weather and all of the life breathing back into the earth and all that jazz, I know spring is a tough season. Kittens are born into hard lives, baby animals everywhere are in danger, and some are even abandoned by their parents.

One Hummingbird is doing all she can to make sure that even the unfortunate babies know some love. Recently, a kind rescue rescued a nest of baby Hummingbirds whose mama hadn't been coming around to feed them, only for a different Hummingbird to come on by and save the day:

According to the Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue, it's actually not just one Hummingbird who's stopped by to feed the babies. A bunch of them have been, but they just happened to catch this one on video. It takes a village, after all, and these baby birds definitely have one!

There are three babies in the artificial nest they've made: two in one little nest, who are related, and one off to the side. That lonely one is also an orphan, though he was found at a different time. She "leaves him out" in this clip, but don't worry: she came back later and made sure he got some.

This is the only video on the account of these sweet little guys: they're fairly new to the world. Hopefully, we'll see more as they grow! For now, though, they're also taking care of other babies. Squirrel babies:

What to Feed Baby Hummingbirds

If you find a nest of abandoned baby Hummingbirds, time is of the essence. These babies need to eat very frequently to stay alive: just a few hours without a feeding could be enough to kill them.

Once you're positive that they've been abandoned, the smartest thing to do is contact a wildlife rescue. However, while you're waiting for them, odds are you'll need to feed them. The diet their mother provides is high-protein, but temporarily, a sugar-water solution (1:4) will work fine. Give them a little bit every 15-20 minutes until the professionals can get them to safety.

The internet has officially fallen in love with a puppy who somehow looks both incredibly long and unbelievably tiny at the same time.

There is something charming about dogs that run through the world from a few inches off the ground. Tank, a possible Labrador retriever-dachshund mix, is a rescue dog who has recently gained popularity on Reddit's r/lookatmydog.

His mom posted him, and fans loved his unusual build, expressive face, and a nickname that pays homage to one of the greatest movies of all time.

The Forrest Gump Nickname Happened Instantly

Here is the fun part. His actual name is Tank, but according to his mom, the Forrest Gump-inspired nickname happened almost immediately.

She explained, "I've been calling him 'Lieutenant Dan' cause he ain't got no legs." The fans took the joke and went with it.

"He looks like he's about to demand snacks with great confidence," one commenter wrote.

Another perfectly described the puppy's proportions: "So long, yet so short, yet so good!"

A Puppy With Many Names

Tank came to his forever home with a completely different name. According to his mom, "He came to us named Howie and when I picked him up I said 'this is not a Howie, this is a tank' and boom."

And if you look at him, you can instantly see why. Tank has the compact, low-to-the-ground body that makes every movement feel and look dramatic.

A Mixed Puppy With Tiny Legs

People on the Reddit post tried to guess his heritage, with a few guessing correctly that he might be a Labrador retriever and dachshund mix. His family believes it too, saying, "We think a lab/daschound mix but one of his brothers new moms did a DNA test so we'll find out for sure soon."

If that is true, it will help explain a lot. Dachshunds are famous for their short legs, while Labradors have larger paws and a broad face. Tank might be the perfect Lab-dachshund mix, part athletic sporting dog, and part animated cartoon.

Beyond the jokes, there's something lovable about rescue dogs with unique appearances. Tank isn't the perfect purebred; he looks real. And judging by Reddit's reaction, Lieutenant Dan already has a growing fan club.

The Name Challenge

Dogs thrive on consistency, and when a pup has many nicknames, things can get confusing. Pet parents should stick to one primary name for training purposes. Nicknames are fine for joking around with your pup, but stick to one name during training.

Tank, for example, has had to learn to respond to Howie, Tank, and, perhaps, Lieutenant Dan.

The trick is to get everyone in the household on the same page, so make sure to pick a name that sticks.

Turtles are, unfortunately, one of those pets that a lot of people get, though they know next to nothing about them. They're kept in tiny tanks, not given enough enrichment, and frequently surrendered or downright abandoned. It breaks my heart!

When one woman saw an abandoned pet turtle in a pond, she simply couldn't just stand by and do nothing. She decided to bring him some food, and clearly, he was incredibly grateful for it:

CJ Miami has this pond in her backyard: it's absolutely stuffed with turtles who were once people's pets. This isn't some kind of rescue operation, either: someone just dumped them there, and that was that. As a turtle lover myself (I have a Yellow-Bellied Slider, and I have had him for 12 years), it just breaks my heart.

This boy looks like a Southern Painted turtle, which is a pretty common species to keep as pets. Apparently, there are about 20 turtles living in this lake, and most of them were dumped. Others were probably the offspring of those dumped turtles.

Luckily, in Miami, these turtles will have a relatively easy time staying safe. Southern Painted turtles are native to the area, and the hot days make it easy for them to bask. Miami is also home to a wide variety of bugs, and there are most likely some fish in that lake, too. The pellets are a nice supplement, though. CJ also hand-raises swans:

The swans and turtles get along pretty well most of the time, though they can get in some trouble during feeding time. Swans will often try to hiss in order to intimidate turtles (or anyone) into letting them eat first, but luckily, CJ was not having it.

Why Do People Abandon Turtles?

Take it from me: turtles are not easy to take care of. They have incredibly specific requirements and strong personalities. Blink and something might go wrong! Plus, turtles sold in pet stores are often marketed as "desk pets," which is just plain evil. A lot of people have no idea how big they get.

Turtles may seem like an "easy" pet for kids, and in some ways, they are. They're a little hardier than, say, a fish, but they're a big commitment. There are a few things that typically lead to a turtle being abandoned or surrendered:

• Their size: they outgrow "starter" tanks quickly.
• Their needs: a lot of people don't realize how much work it is to take care of a turtle.
• Their lifespans: depending on the turtle, you're looking at 30+ years.
• Their temperaments: people often get bored with "look, don't touch" types of pets.
• Expenses: turtles are not cheap to care for!

Puppies with a bunch of spots are the best. Freckles are cute on anybody, but they're especially cute on our furry friends! A lot of puppies are born with little patches and freckles, only for them to fill in when they get older. Losing the puppy spots is one of the only downsides of them growing up.

One English Setter might be the most freckly puppy who has ever lived. He's just the cutest, and he has those freckles all over his little face! He's squishy, furry, and you just have to see him:

Mr. Bill the English Setter is a troublemaker, but that's par for the course with a puppy. He's perfected one of the most common puppy tricks: making mom think he has to go potty, but he actually runs away and goes to eat mulch. We've all been there. It's just part of having a puppy!

Mr. Bill wasn't able to eat every piece of mulch the yard had to offer before his mom managed to wrangle him, but he did get a couple of pieces in. Luckily for him, his sweet little freckles act as a perpetual "get out of jail free" card.

Mr. Bill is only about 4 months old, but his freckles are only getting deeper, and he's only getting cuter as time goes on. When he's not trying to snack on some mulch, he likes to be inside, snuggling mom to try and get ahead of the next time he gets in trouble:

Why Do Some Puppies Have Freckles?

A lot of puppies are born with freckles! English Setters are freckle dogs in general: they're born with some, but develop more over time. Eventually, their entire faces are a little polka dot dream.

Many puppies are born with some freckles because their pigment will continue to develop as they age. It's the same as with their:

1. Eye color.
2. Coat color.
3. Skin color.

You might notice that your dog, even if they don't have freckles, gets darker as they age. That's completely normal, and it's completely normal to mourn their puppy freckles, too. They're just so sweet!

A Simple DIY Project

The project starts with two socks, shaped and stuffed to create the kitten's body and head. Then, a coloring crayon adds soft patches of fur and tiny details, while pencils finish the design with eyebrows, mouth, and everything in between.

That simplicity is why so many people fell in love with it.
