Basset Hound Who Weighs More Than Human Toddlers Is an Absolute Unit
If you've ever looked at certain dog breeds and wondered how much weight they're capable of carrying around, Dr. Lindsay Butzer, DVM, has your back! In a recent post, the vet introduced a sweet Basset Houndnamed Bentley who, at first glance, may look like any other, but there's a massive catch—and you won't believe what this big boy weighs!
View this post on InstagramI didn't have Bentley coming in at a whopping 80 pounds as my guess, so I'd say he wears it well! We're all familiar with a typical Basset Hound stature, which is low slung, long, and droopy, but I didn't think it was possible for one of these cute pups to tip the scales at this level.
There's no weight-shaming here. I think Bentley is one handsome gent, but there's another huge Hound competing for the "biggest" prize, and this pooch will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about the breed and their size!
The viral video shared by @bensonbassetfarm is a few months old, but it's the perfect comparison video to show how XL these sweet and gentle dogs can grow to be.
They don't seem to notice they're any larger than the smallest pups in the house!
@bensonbassetfarmI think the chairs alright 😂. Btw we have two male pups looking for a home! They’re akc, European, and have all their shots! ♬ Funny - Gold-Tiger How Much Do Basset Hounds Usually Weigh?Dr. Butzer didn't specify whether Bentley is an American Basset Hound or the European version (and the same goes for Benson), but going by weight alone, I'd place my bets on the latter. Here are the key differences between the two:
- European Hounds are larger and heavier, even reaching 90 pounds or more, while American Bassets settle in around 40 to 65 pounds at most, but it can vary.
- They're also more wrinkly and athletic than the American breed.
- European pups are the typical choice for show, because of their droopier eyes, heavier bone structure, and longer ears.
Basset Hounds as a whole stand around 15 inches at the shoulder, and males might be a touch taller with more meat on their bones! One look at Bentley and Benson, and I think they both deserve to win the prize for "Absolute Units of the Year!"

This Frenchie Is 'Obsessed' With His Sphynx Cat Sister and Their Cuddle Sessions Are Going Viral
Sometimes the unlikeliest of pairs make for the cutest ones.
We see that here with a French Bulldog cuddling his Sphynx cat sister.
People are loving this adorable bond in this heartwarming viral pet video.
The sweet Frenchie named Emmett appears to be completely obsessed and protective of his hairless cat sibling, and he just loves to snuggle with her.

♬ original sound - goodboyemmett Why This French Bulldog and Sphynx Cat Are So CloseThe sweet dog-cat friendship is so charming, especially during these legendary cuddle sessions.
It's amazing when some dogs become obsessed with their cat siblings. So why do some dogs like cats more than others?
A lot of their affection for cats is based on instinctive behavior.
Dogs, which are descendants of wolves, have always been interested in smaller animals.
Now, yes, they may see cats as prey, but they may also see them as playmates.
But even though dogs may see kitties as prey, because dogs are now domesticated and (hopefully) well fed, their cat siblings are more fun playmates.
Especially with the agility and sneakiness of cats, these kitties make for great and stimulating playmates.
But also remember that dogs are pack animals, and hopefully they look at cats as part of the pack and not intruders in their territory.
Clearly, Bennett, the Frenchie, views this beautiful Sphynx kitty as part of his pack!

Why Some Dogs Become Obsessed With Their Cat SiblingsDogs and cats can also have strong emotional bonds if they are both properly socialized early on in their lives.
The fact that we see this cat remain calm even though Bennett is almost smothering her with love is a sign that she is fond of her canine companion.
According to Stephanie Gibeault, CPDT, certain dog breeds, such as the toy group and sporting group, are more likely to develop strong bonds with cats.
Clearly, this Frenchie is also part of that group!

This Older Dog Started Slowing Down—Then One Change Shifted Everything
As dogs get older, it's hard not to notice when their energy or spark starts to fade ever so slightly. The vibe shifts a bit, and everything feels a little quieter than before.
In this video, we meet an older Golden Retriever who seems to be slowing down, as if he's losing some of the buzz and energy he had as a puppy. His parents noticed a mood change and made one switch that completely shifted the mood and everything else.

Then, quickly, we see several other clips of the pup over time, each one with him sitting on the couch, eyes looking either really sleepy or sad.
The video's caption reads: "Just get the second dog," and about halfway through, we meet Molly, a Golden Retriever puppy and Cooper's new little sister. And instantly, the clips we see in the video change the mood from sad to so full of energy. Cooper is having the best time of his life, even when the little puppy invades his space.

Now he has a playmate and a cuddle buddy, and people in the comments quickly fell in love with the two siblings.

Another shared, "My mum's dog was so sad before we got my pup. Now he's as happy as a kid with candy."
Someone else added, "I got a second and somehow ended up with five."
Other comments included, "Instructions unclear. I now have seven," "May 10th, I'm getting that second dog," "Best decision my mum ever made," "Did this and ended up with thre Huskies," and "I'm gonna cry."

How To Introduce a Puppy to Your Senior DogIt really is so special to see how much happier the senior dog is with a new puppy to love and play with. If you're thinking of doing the same in your family, to get a younger pup when you have a senior dog at home, it's important to read up on some essential points you should consider first. Also, it might be good to check in with your senior dog's veterinarian, too, who might be able to weigh in on the potential. From there, introducing a puppy to your senior dog requires some planning, too, according to the experts.
Whole Dog Journal says that introductions are vital if you want both dogs to be their happiest and healthiest, which is a given, obviously. There isn't a one-way checklist you can follow that'll work like a charm every time, but there are some pretty standard ideas. They explain that the overarching importance of introducing the dogs is to ensure both pups are at the forefront of their parents' minds. This includes ensuring they both feel safe, which is why they recommend introductions be conducted via see-through barriers rather than being held. This ensures both are safe, but it also allows them to move closer without being able to physically interact (yet), so they can get used to what they're seeing and their new sibling's scent, too.
From there, Whole Dog Journal says pet parents need to remain patient and not rush the situation. When neither dog shows any negative body language cues, the pups can slowly have those barriers moved closer together and expect this to take days or weeks, not hours.
The slower the process goes, and the more you're really watching their body language, the smoother things will go when you're able to remove the barrier.
Black Cat’s Wobbly Workout With Tiny Weights Is Peak Gym Bro Energy
Some cats are born with a level of determination and grit worthy of a Rocky reboot. Regardless of challenges, they're the best teachers of how to get through life with gratitude and grace—even when the cards are stacked against you.
Elvis, the wobbly Black Cat, was born with cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), but that doesn't stop him from hitting the gym for a workout in the most precious gym bro gear ever!

♬ оригинальный звук - Гладиатор How To Improve Mobility in Cats With Cerebellar HypoplasiaCerebellar hypoplasia affects the part of the brain that controls coordination and mobility, which can make cats walk with a wobble, but that doesn't mean they can't "practice" concentrating on their movements to get around and/or play.
Elvis and his tiny dumbbells show one way these incredible kitties can work on mobility with something they're already doing—playing! With enough traction to keep them safe, using training aids or toys can serve as physical therapy and help build their confidence. Even a simple feather wand is a good tool for ensuring they get enough exercise while strengthening their leg muscles.
CH can be mild or extreme, and some wobbly cats might need the help of a wheelchair or ramp to get around. Balance training—like setting up padded rails they can walk between—is another good way to encourage movement.
The nonprogressive condition might be frustrating for some kitties, but with a few lifestyle modifications and some sweet workout gear like Elvis', these cats can become unstoppable!

'Shut-Down' Black Cat Spent 899 Days in Shelter — Then One Moment Changed Everything
Some dogs and cats in shelters wait longer to be adopted than others. It can be due to age, health, or even size. In other cases, an animal may have a very traumatic past and is still trying to recover emotionally. The healing process takes time and often hinders a shelter dog or cat from showing their true personality.
Skippy the black cat waited over two years at the NAWS Humane Society in Illinois for someone to give him a chance at finding forever family — and then it finally happened.
@franflightHAPPY TEARS GUYS! I’m hoping this video brings you all so much joy tonight. Thank you SO much to Lisa and Josh for not only seeing and understanding Skippy, but for allowing us to be involved with him and the adjustment process. I truly am so grateful to both of you. Thank you to Maria for fostering Skippy to get him out of the shelter and just for being the most perfect human on this planet. Thank you to all of you for advocating for an overlooked, black, shelter cat who truly needed our help. Because of you all he is home. I love you guys so much and am so grateful to be involved in this community for these animals. 🥹🤍🫂 #adopt #adoptdontshop #catadoption #cats #cat
♬ Coming Up Roses - Harry StylesThe TikTok from @franflight shared Skippy's story, where the black cat was often passed over for adoption since he was emotionally closed off due to past trauma.
"Skippy continuously shut down at the shelter, which made him very hard to adopt," the onscreen text shared. "All he wanted to do with us was hide away."
Thankfully, a lovely couple opened their hearts to the feline fur baby and officially made him a member of their family.
"Skippy has waited 899 days to find his forever home," the story explained as the NAWS staff member lovingly held Skippy in her arms. "On his 900th day, someone finally saw him. Our sweet boy was finally going home."
Skippy Has a New LifeThe feline fur baby settled into his new home and is now enjoying a life of love and security. The video featured clips of Skippy lounging in his cozy cat bed, playing with his feline brother, and pawing at a cat toy.
"Things are so different now that he found his patient and loving home," the text continued. "A home where he can be confident. A home where he has a big brother to help him grow his confidence. A home where he can finally be himself."
The TikTok concluded with a shoutout to Skippy's new parents, who gave him the chance he deserved, and to followers who shared his story, stating, "These animals deserve to have their stories told. They deserve to be heard and seen."

Ragdoll Cat Watches Mom Do Her Hair With So Much Love It’s Unreal
It is so, so easy to get annoyed with your pets. When they've stepped on your organs one too many times, or you're trying to do something that requires zero pets and suddenly there's still a pet in your face, it's just so hard not to get frustrated!
It's important to remember that they just want to be with you! There's really nothing else to it: we are their entire world. If you don't believe me, just look at this video. When a Ragdoll cat was watching her mom do her hair, it was like watching someone watch the Mona Lisa being painted. It's magical:

- Cuddle.
- Sit on you.
- Rub their very soft fur all over your face.
- Jump on you when you're in the middle of something.
- Sit and observe you.

Golden Retriever Puppy Sees First Sunrise and Realizes How Big the World Is
There’s something profound about witnessing a baby experience the world for the first time, and, it turns out, so is watching a puppy do the same. In this heartwarming video, the sun slowly rises, and Bowie, the Golden Retriever puppy, sits in complete awe, taking in a moment that feels much bigger than it should.
Bowie sits peacefully on the sand, taking in the beautiful sunrise and occasionally looking back at his human as if to say, "Are you seeing this?" It's an emotional moment, and one that reminds us all to slow down and take life in. If a bouncy ball of energy like a puppy can pause to appreciate it, so can we.

♬ Sand Drawing - Judah Earl"He’s understanding that he’s a part of all this too," says on viewer.
"Nothing more precious than this," asserts another.
"I’m crying and happy at the same time," adds a third.
In comment after comment, people are amazed at how aware Bowie is of the magic he's witnessing and how uncharacteristically "zen" his response is for a puppy. (The couple's other Golden is busy running around nearby.) Several viewers also urge the creator to frame this perfectly composed moment to cherish forever.

Bowie is certainly one of the lucky pups who gets to join his humans on adventures such as this. Not only is this a fun practice for dogs, but it turns out to be an important one, too.
Why Giving Your Puppy New Experiences Is So ImportantFor puppies, the world is still brand new—which is why early experiences can have such a big impact on how they grow and respond to life later on. During their first few months, puppies are especially open to new sights, sounds, people, places, and routines, making it an important time to gently introduce them to the world around them.
Experts agree that positive experiences during this stage help puppies build confidence and feel more comfortable in unfamiliar situations as they get older. Whether it’s hearing new sounds, walking on different surfaces, meeting other dogs, or simply watching a sunrise for the first time like Bowie, these small moments help shape how they understand their environment.
Socialization also helps reduce fear and anxiety later in life. Puppies who are gradually exposed to new experiences in a calm, positive way are often more adaptable, easier-going, and comfortable handling change as adults.
Puppy development writer Pat Hastings also says that these early experiences help puppies develop confidence and “bounceback,” or the ability to recover from unfamiliar situations without fear. The more positive experiences puppies have early on, the more comfortable and adaptable they often become as adult dogs.
Of course, it’s important not to overwhelm them. The goal isn’t to throw a puppy into every possible situation at once—it’s to let them explore at their own pace while building positive associations along the way.
And judging by this little Golden's reaction to his first sunrise, some experiences really do leave a lasting impression.

Miniature Dachshund Joins Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drop Dead' Online Trend—and the Result Is Adorable
This adorable miniature dachshund just joined the Olivia Rodrigo "Drop Dead" online trend. In the video, the pup is sitting in bed with a laptop in front of him. He's browsing the internet and comes across two pictures that catch his attention: one of a live chicken and one of a cooked chicken. The photos are in sync with the music, while the lyrics say, "one night I was bored in bed," the photo of the live chicken appears. The continuation of the lyrics, "and stalked you on the internet," is followed by a photo of the cooked chicken.
I'm sure that if our furry friends had access to the internet and were allowed to browse as much as we do, they'd probably be stalking chickens, too.

Olivia Rodrigo's "Drop Dead" Online TrendRodrigo recently released the song "Drop Dead," the first single from her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which drops on June 12. The song sparked a viral online trend, with content creators using the music in a variety of ways, but the most popular seems to be highlighting the beginning of their relationships with their significant others.
The chorus of the song is used in the trend, with the highlighted lyric being: "One night I was bored in bed, and stalked you on the internet. It's feminine intuition, 'cause I always had a vision of us standing like this."
Creators are including photos of their partners from before they were together, and current photos of them as a couple.
It's very funny that this adorable miniature dachshund joined the trend by stalking a chicken on the internet, but it's not surprising, considering this pup has over 800,000 subscribers on YouTube. The channel @gunnerandgreta posts videos of the brother-and-sister duo, Gunner and Greta. When they're not stalking chicken on the internet and listening to Rodrigo's songs, they're playing outside and enjoying their time together.
The online community also really enjoyed the video, with users sharing their opinions. Someone wrote, "You are just so sweet and adorable and wanting your chicken." Another person stated that this precious miniature dachshund wants to "steal the chickens." Do you think this was his idea all along? No matter the reasoning behind the video, we can all agree that this is the cutest rendition of this online trend.

According to veterinarians, these chatty cats aren’t just noisy, they’re often highly social, affectionate, and eager to interact.

If cats had a talk radio channel, the Siamese would be the host, producer, caller and person yelling over the commercial break, says Dr. Tony Johnson, veterinarian at Noah’s Animal Hospitals and diplomate of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society as they are known as a vocal cat breed.
“These cats are famous for their loud, raspy and very opinionated voices,” he explains. “They don’t just meow, they command.”
Siamese cats are deeply social and tend to form strong attachments with their people. These talkative cats might even vocalize what they think about your activities, demand food updates and insist on being involved in everything you’re doing, whether or not they’re invited to the party.
The Siamese will also narrate their dissatisfaction in great detail until someone responds. “These cats do best in homes where someone is around often, because a lot of their vocalizing is driven by social needs,” says veterinarian Dr. Sarah Wooten.
Breed Stats- Personality: Playful, social
- Weight: 5-12 pounds
- Lifespan: 10-20 years
The Oriental Shorthairs are one of the most talkative cat breeds overall, and they don’t limit themselves to a single style of communication. They chat frequently with their people and use sounds that range from soft chirps to dramatic yowls.
These vocal cats are curious, social and highly interactive. They love to follow their owners from room to room and offer constant commentary along the way. They also tend to have strong opinions about daily routines.
“They’re ideal for owners who enjoy an interactive, communicative pet and don’t mind a running commentary throughout the day,” Wooten says.
Johnson notes their vocal nature is closely tied to their intelligence. “These talkative cats bond very closely and often use their voices to stay involved in everything,” he says. Privacy, therefore, isn’t exactly part of their personality package.
Breed Stats- Personality: Playful, elegant
- Weight: 5-12 pounds
- Lifespan: 10–20 years

Bengal A chatty cat sitting on the stairs.Another one of the most vocal cat breeds are Bengals! These felines aren't just fans of meowing, but they are also energetic, athletic and extremely expressive. Their voices tend to match their high activity levels.
“They often vocalize to initiate play, get attention or express frustration if they’re under-stimulated,” Wooten says. “A bored Bengal will often get louder, not quieter, to voice their needs."
Bengals are talkative partners whose communication can sound urgent, as if every moment is a matter of national security. Because of this, they thrive in environments that offer climbing structures, puzzle toys and regular interaction.
Breed Stats- Personality: Inquisitive, spirited, loving
- Weight: 6-15 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–20 years
Sphynx cats may lack fur, but they’re certainly not lacking in the personality department and you'll often hear them communicate with meows and chirps.
“These cats crave warmth, attention and human contact, and they’re usually very clear about all three,” Johnson explains. “These talktaive cats often communicate with frequent meows, body language, climbing, head bumps and dramatic blanket-seeking behavior.”
Overall, Sphynx cats are affectionate and demand to be physically close to their humans. They’re not subtle about their needs and rarely wait quietly for attention. “These hairless cats crave constant interaction,” Wooten says.
Breed Stats- Personality: Loyal, affectionate
- Weight: 6-12 pounds
- Lifespan: 7–15 years
Burmese cats are social and charming purr machines with gentle yet persistent voices. “They’re talkative cats, but usually in a softer, sweeter way than a Siamese,” Johnson says. “Think less ‘town hall meeting’ and more ‘friendly neighbor leaning over the fence.’”
These chatty felines enjoy companionship and stay close to their humans throughout the day. Burmese don’t like to be ignored and will use their voice to maintain and establish connection. Their vocal style often includes soft meows, chirps and small sounds that are more conversational than demanding.
Breed Stats- Personality: Affectionate, sweet, people-oriented
- Weight: Varies
- Lifespan: 12+ years
If you love large cats, you'll be a fan of this cat breed that likes to meow. “Maine Coons are the big, fluffy surprise on this list because they often sound much smaller than they look,” Johnson says. “Instead of loud meows, many use chirps, trills and soft little conversational sounds. It’s like having a small bobcat who communicates by bird noise.”
Despite their massive size, Maine Coons are gentle communicators. They tend to bond closely with their families and express themselves in soft, friendly ways that aren’t usually overwhelming. “Don’t overlook their quiet vocal styles,” Wooten adds. “Subtle sounds can still reflect a highly communicative cat.”
Breed Stats- Personality: Gentle, friendly, affectionate
- Weight: 12-22 pounds
- Lifespan: 12.5+ years

Patient Golden Retriever Gives Baby a 'Lesson' in the Art of Fetch
Dogs are some of the smartest animals on the planet, which makes them really great at teaching all humans a thing or two. A game of fetch doesn't just happen by accident. They use the power of suggestion to show how it's done, and the earlier, the better.
Toffee, the Golden Retriever, is an elite "doggy "fetch professor," currently teaching her human sibling Phoebe the art of the game, and you won't believe how this plays out!
@talesoftoffeeReplying to @Kim Marie Foot Phoebe is learning to throw. Toffee has appointed herself fetch coach. Nobody asked her to do this. She has done it anyway. ♬ Matilda Soundtrack by David Newman - Miscellaneous NostalgiaThe toddler stage is a fun one, and Toffee wastes no time getting in on the action, as she brings the baby a ball and waits for the big toss so she can retrieve and repeat.
Phoebe may not fully understand what's happening here, but Toffee, in her loving, patient way, highlights the subtle manner in which dogs train us to do what they want (and it's pretty incredible, TBH), even for a sweet playtime sesh.
As Phoebe learns to throw, Toffee "has appointed herself fetch coach," the caption says. Though no one asked her to do this, "The Supaw Nanny has added ball sports to her list of responsibilities, and she will not be taking questions about it!"
That's not even the best part.

Teaching *her* toddler fetch isn't the only thing on Toffee's list. The doting Golden Retriever takes great pride in watching over her human sister, and she has no issue letting Mom know when she disapproves.
Even her bio jokes, "She judges. We parent. She disapproves," proving Toffee is in charge around these parts. If Phoebe gets into something Toffee doesn't like—such as maneuvering a walker—the opinionated pup will intervene (and it's the cutest thing ever)!
@talesoftoffeeReplying to @Petxines The baby got a walker. The walker lasted approximately four seconds before the Supaw Nanny intervened and she has not moved since. The breed is beloved because of their patient, gentle, and affectionate disposition, particularly with children, and it shows in these precious moments, like that between Toffee and Phoebe.
Pups like Toffee are emotionally intelligent and can handle the unpredictable nature of young kids, serving as protectors, nurturers, and the ultimate family companions. Once the little humans are properly trained in the art of playing fetch, all is right in the world—just ask Toffee!

A tiny merleLonghaired Mini Dachshund named Franklin is currently making the internet emotional after a sweet video showed him repeatedly snuggling as close to his mom as physically possible throughout the day.

♬ Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby - Cigarettes After SexTikTok user @franklin.the.sausage.dog shared the heartmelting clip alongside the caption, “Rich in life because I have a little creature who thinks the safest place on earth is right next to me.”
And honestly? That single sentence alone nearly took people out emotionally.

The video shows Franklin cuddled beside his mom in different, quiet, everyday moments, looking perfectly content as long as he is touching her in some way. Sometimes he is tucked beside her. Sometimes he is pressed against her chest. Sometimes he is just quietly existing nearby like a tiny furry security blanket with legs.
People in the Comments Immediately Understood the Feeling• “I’m crying right now because he is so cute.”
• “Dachshunds are the absolute most.”
• “You are so lucky to have a baby that loves you this hard. Oh my heart.”
• “We just don’t deserve dogs.”
• “A literal angel on earth.”
Others said the video felt extremely relatable for fellow Dachshund parents.
“I’m watching this in bed with my little Doxxie pupper, and she’s doing the same thing!” one person shared.
Honestly, Dachshunds really do act like tiny emotionally intense Victorian children who simply cannot survive without direct physical contact at all times.
Meanwhile, my Maine Coon, Meatball, behaves similarly except with slightly more dramatic flopping and significantly more fur in my coffee.
Are Dachshunds Affectionate Dogs? @zvbjy7547 ♬ original sound - zvbjy7547Dachshunds are famously affectionate and deeply loyal dogs who often form extremely strong attachments to their people. Many Dachshunds prefer staying physically close to their families and are known for following their favorite humans from room to room throughout the day.
Because they were originally bred to work closely with humans while hunting, Dachshunds tend to bond intensely and often thrive on companionship, cuddling, and routine interaction.
This honestly explains why so many Dachshund parents end up with tiny sausage-shaped shadows attached to them for life.

This Dog Parent Works a Stressful Job to Afford Their Shiba Inu's Regal Lifestyle
This dog parent, content creator @KyloTheDoge, has over 900,000 subscribers on YouTube, where they post videos of their adorable Shiba Inu, Kylo. In one of their most recent videos, they showed their pup relaxing on a fluffy carpet, with his eyes closed, and wearing wired headphones connected to an iPod. How cute is that?
The video was captioned with, "POV: You're working a stressful job, so your dog can do this all day." And I'm sure any dog parent can understand this, because the more you work, the more cute items you want to purchase for your dog. Why buy an iPod for yourself when they look much cuter on your furry friend?

The comment section weighed in, with one user sharing, "Kylo deserves to be pampered." Right? Let's add some more hours to this dog parent's work schedule. As a matter of fact, get Kylo another iPod. He deserves it! Another user agreed with this sentiment, "Worth it." Someone else wrote, "And the problem is?" Everyone seems to be on Kylo's side, and how could we not be?
Get to Know the Shiba Inuhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/tb-6XUCPDi0
But don't be fooled by this video alone, even though Kylo is calm and relaxed, taking a nap while listening to music, Shiba Inus are actually very active and energetic dogs.
It's a Japanese breed of small to medium-sized hunting dogs, well-suited to mountainous terrain and hiking adventures. Although even the most energetic dogs will enjoy downtime, relaxing by their owners' feet while they work, this is definitely an occasional event. Even for Kylo.
Kylo can easily outrun his humans. In the video above, Kylo is competing against his parent trying to run faster than them. The human gives themselves a head start and, even with that advantage, still loses the competition. Kylo runs much faster and reaches his parents very quickly and easily.
In other videos, Kylo is seen running, playing, and barking as loud as he can. And now it's easy to understand why he needed a relaxing nap, right? After hours of activities and exercise, a puppy needs a break—just so he can do it all over again later.

This Sweet Pittie Was Facing Euthanasia Until a Grieving Woman Made One Last Visit

For one woman, who shared her story on Reddit's r/rescuedogs, the grief of saying goodbye to her dog, who had been with her for eight years, was still fresh when she came across a photo of a pit bull at a local shelter.
Despite the fresh loss, she couldn't let this pit bull go. The dog was scheduled for euthanasia, and she had to intervene.
She drove to the shelter and saved the girl on a Monday, just hours before it would have been too late.
The woman wasn't planning to adopt another dog, but despite not feeling ready, she couldn't let this pit bull meet an untimely fate.

Immediate TransformationIn her Reddit post, the woman shared images of the rescued pit bull, and the difference between the before-and-after adoption photos is obvious, with many Redditors taking notice.
"That's a great looking dog and the before and after says everything. She's got the biggest smile now," one person wrote.
Another added, "The best way to help deal with grief is to save a life."
A New Chapter for Both of ThemFor some people, adopting a new pet after losing a longtime one takes time. For others, helping another animal is part of the healing process.
This isn't about moving on from a beloved pet. Grief doesn't replace one relationship with another. You carry the love forward. As one commenter said, "You've done a very good thing - for both of you. She's the next part of the journey and I hope you enjoy a lot of time together."
If you take a look at the giant smile on the rescued pittie's face, she seems to be in the right place—happy about her new lease on life.
Hummingbird Stops By to Help Feed Baby Birds Like a Little Angel
Spring is bittersweet for me, because while I love the warmer weather and all of the life breathing back into the earth and all that jazz, I know spring is a tough season. Kittens are born into hard lives, baby animals everywhere are in danger, and some are even abandoned by their parents.
One Hummingbird is doing all she can to make sure that even the unfortunate babies know some love. Recently, a kind rescue rescued a nest of baby Hummingbirds whose mama hadn't been coming around to feed them, only for a different Hummingbird to come on by and save the day:
@yggdrasilwildlifethe local hummingbirds found our babies and started feeding them! #wildliferehab #wildlife #hummingbird
♬ original sound - Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife RescuAccording to the Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue, it's actually not just one Hummingbird who's stopped by to feed the babies. A bunch of them have been, but they just happened to catch this one on video. It takes a village, after all, and these baby birds definitely have one!
There are three babies in the artificial nest they've made: two in one little nest, who are related, and one off to the side. That lonely one is also an orphan, though he was found at a different time. She "leaves him out" in this clip, but don't worry: she came back later and made sure he got some.

This is the only video on the account of these sweet little guys: they're fairly new to the world. Hopefully, we'll see more as they grow! For now, though, they're also taking care of other babies. Squirrel babies:
@yggdrasilwildlifeBaby squirrel season is in full swing! Did you know baby squirrels are born blind and don’t open their eyes until around 5 weeks old? They’re fully weaned by 9-10 weeks and ready for release back into the wild at around 14-16 weeks. During this time, they’re extremely vulnerable — many come into care and rescue after falling from nests or being displaced during tree trimming. Please be mindful when pruning trees and shrubs this season.
♬ Turnaround Reprise - Hans Zimmer & CamilleI've never seen baby squirrels before, but now I want to keep them as pets! I might never get over how cute they are!
What to Feed Baby HummingbirdsIf you find a nest of abandoned baby Hummingbirds, time is of the essence. These babies need to eat very frequently to stay alive: just a few hours without a feeding could be enough to kill them.
An up-close shot of a Hummingbird.Image via Shutterstock / Pixvio
Once you're positive that they've been abandoned, the smartest thing to do is contact a wildlife rescue. However, while you're waiting for them, odds are you'll need to feed them. The diet their mother provides is high-protein, but temporarily, a sugar-water solution (1:4) will work fine. Give them a little bit every 15-20 minutes until the professionals can get them to safety.
Luckily, the baby Hummingbirds at this rescue are loved and well-cared for. I hope they all live long, happy lives!

Sweet Rescue Dog Gets the Most Unexpected 'Forrest Gump'-Inspired Name
The internet has officially fallen in love with a puppy who somehow looks both incredibly long and unbelievably tiny at the same time.
There is something charming about dogs that run through the world from a few inches off the ground. Tank, a possible Labrador retriever-dachshund mix, is a rescue dog who has recently gained popularity on Reddit's r/lookatmydog.
🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾
His mom posted him, and fans loved his unusual build, expressive face, and a nickname that pays homage to one of the greatest movies of all time.
The Forrest Gump Nickname Happened InstantlyHere is the fun part. His actual name is Tank, but according to his mom, the Forrest Gump-inspired nickname happened almost immediately.
She explained, "I've been calling him 'Lieutenant Dan' cause he ain't got no legs." The fans took the joke and went with it.
"He looks like he's about to demand snacks with great confidence," one commenter wrote.
Another perfectly described the puppy's proportions: "So long, yet so short, yet so good!"
Related: This Dancing Labrador Retriever Has More Rhythm Than Most Humans
A Puppy With Many NamesTank came to his forever home with a completely different name. According to his mom, "He came to us named Howie and when I picked him up I said 'this is not a Howie, this is a tank' and boom."
And if you look at him, you can instantly see why. Tank has the compact, low-to-the-ground body that makes every movement feel and look dramatic.
A Mixed Puppy With Tiny LegsPeople on the Reddit post tried to guess his heritage, with a few guessing correctly that he might be a Labrador retriever and dachshund mix. His family believes it too, saying, "We think a lab/daschound mix but one of his brothers new moms did a DNA test so we'll find out for sure soon."
If that is true, it will help explain a lot. Dachshunds are famous for their short legs, while Labradors have larger paws and a broad face. Tank might be the perfect Lab-dachshund mix, part athletic sporting dog, and part animated cartoon.
Beyond the jokes, there's something lovable about rescue dogs with unique appearances. Tank isn't the perfect purebred; he looks real. And judging by Reddit's reaction, Lieutenant Dan already has a growing fan club.
The Name ChallengeDogs thrive on consistency, and when a pup has many nicknames, things can get confusing. Pet parents should stick to one primary name for training purposes. Nicknames are fine for joking around with your pup, but stick to one name during training.
Tank, for example, has had to learn to respond to Howie, Tank, and, perhaps, Lieutenant Dan.
The trick is to get everyone in the household on the same page, so make sure to pick a name that sticks.

Abandoned Pet Turtle Living in Pond Is So Grateful for Woman Bringing Food
Turtles are, unfortunately, one of those pets that a lot of people get, though they know next to nothing about them. They're kept in tiny tanks, not given enough enrichment, and frequently surrendered or downright abandoned. It breaks my heart!
When one woman saw an abandoned pet turtle in a pond, she simply couldn't just stand by and do nothing. She decided to bring him some food, and clearly, he was incredibly grateful for it:
@cjmiamiI’m not sure who dropped off some of these turtles, but they seem grateful. On average, I count about 20 behind my house during feeding time. They’ve become a great addition to life on the lake. #turtles #animalfriends
♬ original sound - noahksticksCJ Miami has this pond in her backyard: it's absolutely stuffed with turtles who were once people's pets. This isn't some kind of rescue operation, either: someone just dumped them there, and that was that. As a turtle lover myself (I have a Yellow-Bellied Slider, and I have had him for 12 years), it just breaks my heart.
This boy looks like a Southern Painted turtle, which is a pretty common species to keep as pets. Apparently, there are about 20 turtles living in this lake, and most of them were dumped. Others were probably the offspring of those dumped turtles.
Luckily, in Miami, these turtles will have a relatively easy time staying safe. Southern Painted turtles are native to the area, and the hot days make it easy for them to bask. Miami is also home to a wide variety of bugs, and there are most likely some fish in that lake, too. The pellets are a nice supplement, though. CJ also hand-raises swans:
@cjmiamiI predicted May 9th would be the day Sarah’s eggs would hatch… and today is the day. 🦢🥚 So far, no babies yet, but fingers crossed we’ll see little cygnets arriving over the next few days.
♬ The warmth of nature - masumi&mugiThe swans and turtles get along pretty well most of the time, though they can get in some trouble during feeding time. Swans will often try to hiss in order to intimidate turtles (or anyone) into letting them eat first, but luckily, CJ was not having it.
Why Do People Abandon Turtles?Take it from me: turtles are not easy to take care of. They have incredibly specific requirements and strong personalities. Blink and something might go wrong! Plus, turtles sold in pet stores are often marketed as "desk pets," which is just plain evil. A lot of people have no idea how big they get.
A Red-Eared Slider close to the camera.Image via Shutterstock / schankz
Turtles may seem like an "easy" pet for kids, and in some ways, they are. They're a little hardier than, say, a fish, but they're a big commitment. There are a few things that typically lead to a turtle being abandoned or surrendered:
- Their size: they outgrow "starter" tanks quickly.
- Their needs: a lot of people don't realize how much work it is to take care of a turtle.
- Their lifespans: depending on the turtle, you're looking at 30+ years.
- Their temperaments: people often get bored with "look, don't touch" types of pets.
- Expenses: turtles are not cheap to care for!
My turtle, Mr. Turtle, has a custom-built cabinet with a built-in faucet. He's a very loved, very pampered turtle. May he and this sweet turtle both live long, happy lives!

English Setter Is a Total ‘Freckle Puppy’ and We Can’t Get Enough
Puppies with a bunch of spots are the best. Freckles are cute on anybody, but they're especially cute on our furry friends! A lot of puppies are born with little patches and freckles, only for them to fill in when they get older. Losing the puppy spots is one of the only downsides of them growing up.
One English Setter might be the most freckly puppy who has ever lived. He's just the cutest, and he has those freckles all over his little face! He's squishy, furry, and you just have to see him:
@mrbill.englishsetter* No mulch was consumed in the making of this video * Mom was successful in thwarting Mr. Bill’s plan of eating every piece of mulch in the yard. #puppytiktok #englishsetter #mrbill #dogsoftiktok
♬ The Benny Hill Show - The Edwin Davids Jazz BandMr. Bill the English Setter is a troublemaker, but that's par for the course with a puppy. He's perfected one of the most common puppy tricks: making mom think he has to go potty, but he actually runs away and goes to eat mulch. We've all been there. It's just part of having a puppy!
Mr. Bill wasn't able to eat every piece of mulch the yard had to offer before his mom managed to wrangle him, but he did get a couple of pieces in. Luckily for him, his sweet little freckles act as a perpetual "get out of jail free" card.

Mr. Bill is only about 4 months old, but his freckles are only getting deeper, and he's only getting cuter as time goes on. When he's not trying to snack on some mulch, he likes to be inside, snuggling mom to try and get ahead of the next time he gets in trouble:
@mrbill.englishsetterEnjoying the little moments🩵
♬ original sound - FinleyHe's being very sweet there, but make sure you remember that it's all for show. Those freckles are full of mischief and deceit!
Why Do Some Puppies Have Freckles?A lot of puppies are born with freckles! English Setters are freckle dogs in general: they're born with some, but develop more over time. Eventually, their entire faces are a little polka dot dream.

Many puppies are born with some freckles because their pigment will continue to develop as they age. It's the same as with their:
- Eye color.
- Coat color.
- Skin color.
You might notice that your dog, even if they don't have freckles, gets darker as they age. That's completely normal, and it's completely normal to mourn their puppy freckles, too. They're just so sweet!

A YouTube Short gives pet parents a new idea for a DIY project. With just socks, crayons and pencils, you can make a beautiful baby kitten. The finished result is surprisingly adorable.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/aWlwJhfDoO0
A Simple DIY ProjectThe project starts with two socks, shaped and stuffed to create the kitten's body and head. Then, a coloring crayon adds soft patches of fur and tiny details, while pencils finish the design with eyebrows, mouth, and everything in between.
That simplicity is why so many people fell in love with it.
Pet Parents Fell in Love WithOne commenter summed up the mood perfectly: "I'm making that now thanks."
Others filled the comment section with reactions like "so cute" and "adorable," with many saying they immediately wanted to try it for their own pets.
For cat parents, the tiny sock kitten could work as a comforting buddy for shy cats. Dog parents, on the other hand, can give their pups this "sock" as a toy to play with for several minutes.

Why Do Pets Love Soft ToysEvery pet parent has brought home a new plush toy only to watch their dog proudly parade it around the house like a treasure. And you might already picture what will happen next with this toy. The sock kitten is just the right size for your dog to carry, soft enough to cuddle, and oddly realistic in a way pets seem to notice immediately.
There's actually a reason soft companion-style toys can matter to animals more than people realize. Many dogs are naturally drawn to plush toys that mimic small animals because they trigger comfort, curiosity or nurturing instincts.
Cats, especially young kittens or recently adopted cats, love soft objects that hold warmth and familiar textures.
Rescue organizations occasionally even use stuffed companions to comfort orphaned kittens during feeding and sleep.
Here is a tip: if you rescued a pet recently, making this DIY toy with a familiar scent can be more appealing to a nervous dog. That is what makes this project feel a bit more personal than others. And judging by the reactions online, many pet parents are probably digging through their sock drawers.
