Golden Retriever 'Helps' Mom Bake a Cake by Sticking His Entire Face in the Batter

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 9:00am

I actually love baking, and 99 percent of the time I'm making cakes or cookies, I'm simultaneously chasing a dog or cat out of my kitchen. If my giant Maine Coon Meatball had his way, he would absolutely shove his face into everything I'm making, which is exactly why this Golden Retriever video made me laugh so hard.

Some pets simply cannot accept that food preparation does not involve them. They hear a mixer turn on, and suddenly they're convinced they've been hired as sous chefs.

The hilarious clip was shared by @moosie1978 and shows a dog mom pouring cake batter into a pan when her Golden Retriever suddenly appears with a mission.

Related: Adorable Cattle Dogs Become Kitchen Supervisors During Homemade Dog Meatballs

And that mission is apparently:

Become one with the batter.

Without hesitation, the sweet dog runs over and sticks his entire face into the cake mixture while Mom is still pouring.

Honestly, the confidence is impressive.

There wasn't even a moment of hesitation.

No thoughts.

No regrets.

Just batter.

As someone who has had to rescue countless sticks of butter from curious pets, I understand the struggle.

The comments section was absolutely cracking up.
  • "Something about this gives me the feeling that you're gonna still make this cake lol."
  • "Some of y'all have never had a kid shove their entire arm into the mixing bowl and it shows. The dog had one intrusive thought and lost. We've all been there."
  • "This is why I won't eat at potluck lunches."
  • "I am going to think of this every time I go to a bake sale."
  • "And he regrets nothing."

Honestly, that last comment says it all.

Because if Golden Retrievers have one talent besides being adorable, it's committing fully to bad decisions.

And somehow making us love them even more for it.

How to Keep Your Dog Out of Your Kitchen When Cooking @picklestheridgeback

Dont let this fool you, she *will* steal unsupervised food. 😅 #rhodesianridgeback #dogtraining

If your own furry sous chef likes to supervise dinner, there are several ways to keep everyone safe:

  • Use baby gates or dog gates to block off the kitchen.
  • Offer puzzle feeders or snuffle mats to provide a distraction.
  • Schedule outside playtime in the yard before cooking.
  • Ask another family member to take the dog for a walk.
  • Give your pup a special chew or treat in another room.
  • Teach a "place" command so they can relax nearby without getting underfoot.

Because while dogs think every recipe needs their approval, some ingredients can be dangerous for pets.

And nobody wants to explain to the veterinarian that their Golden Retriever attempted to become part of a Bundt cake.

Blind Cat’s Sunshine Moment Feels Like a Tiny Miracle

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 8:55am

Unfortunately for me, I don’t think I’ve ever been as peaceful as Ray looks in this video. I’ve tried meditation. I’ve tried sitting outside with coffee. I’ve tried telling myself to slow down and enjoy the little things. Then a blind orange-and-white cat steps into a patch of sunshine, and suddenly he understands the whole assignment better than most of us ever will.

In the video, Ray is simply feeling the sun on his face. That’s it. No big trick. No dramatic setup. No chaos. Just a sweet, blind cat pausing long enough to soak in the warmth.

View this post on Instagram

The caption on the video invites folks to watch Ray enjoying the sunshine, and his human’s post caption calls him their own little ray of light, which is such a perfect way to describe him. His name already feels made for this moment. Ray, standing in the sun, reminds everyone that happiness doesn’t always have to be loud.

There's something deeply moving to me about watching an animal enjoy something so simple. Ray can't see the golden light hitting him, but he can still feel it. He can still lift his face toward it. He can still know, in his own way, that something warm and good is happening.

That's the part that gets me.

One person in the comments shared that watching Ray made them feel like maybe life isn’t so bad after all. Like maybe things can get easier one day. Like maybe we can come back to small joys, even if we’re standing in them alone for a little while. It’s a heavy thing to admit in a comments section, but Ray’s quiet little sunbath somehow makes room for it.

Some videos make you laugh, and then some videos catch you off guard because they arrive on the exact day your heart needed something soft. Ray isn’t trying to inspire anyone. He’s just being a cat in the sun. That’s why it works. It doesn’t feel forced. It feels true.

Blind cats can still have rich, beautiful lives. They learn their spaces, follow familiar sounds, trust scents, and find comfort in routines. Ray’s sunshine moment is a sweet reminder that joy doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. Sometimes it’s a warm spot on the floor. Sometimes it’s a quiet pause. Sometimes it’s one little kitty showing you that the world still has gentle things in it.

Ray may not see the sunshine, but he clearly knows when he’s found it.

How to Help a Blind Cat Feel Safe and Happy

If you live with a blind cat, minor comforts can make a big difference. Keep furniture, food, water, and litter boxes in familiar places when you can. Talk to them before touching them, avoid startling noises, and give them cozy spots where they can relax without having to guess what’s around them.

Pet Assure shares that blind cats can still enjoy a good quality of life, especially when their surroundings feel predictable and safe. A warm, sunny spot, a familiar blanket, and a patient human can all help them feel steady in their world.

Ray’s little sunshine break is proof that peace doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it just needs a quiet place to land.

This Golden Retriever's Journey From Puppy to 8-Year-Old Will Melt Your Heart

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 8:30am

Caring for a senior dog is one of the most important things you can do as a pet parent. They may be slowing down a little, but they can still be so much fun — and hitting this milestone doesn't mean that there aren't still plenty of memories to be made together.

The time goes by way too fast, though, and Winnie the Golden Retriever's parents can prove it with this video that shows her transformation from puppy to senior dog in the blink of an eye.

@thedoubleuduo

Forever my baby ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 #goldenretriever #seniordog #dogbirthday #doglovers #sweetdog

♬ Turning Page - jpviolin

One minute, Winnie is celebrating her eighth birthday as her parents sing to her (and she gets ready to devour a beautiful pink cake) and the next, the video flashes back to when she was a tiny puppy being held by her mom.

That adorable face. Those fluffy ears! She might be all grown up now, but she is so loved.

Like Winnie's parents point out in the video, it really is such a privilege to watch our dogs grow older. It's hard to see them slow down a bit, but boy, is it worth all the love they give us.

When Are Golden Retrievers Considered Seniors?

Your Golden Retriever (or other breed) may hit the senior dog age a little earlier than you expected, medically speaking, even if they still zoom around the yard with the best of them.

According to Chewy, dogs of different breeds will be considered seniors at different times. Technically speaking, a dog is a senior when they've reached the final 25% of their expected life span, which will vary depending on breed and size.

Since Goldens are classified as a large breed, they usually live between 10-12 years, so around the time they're 7 or 8 years old, they're considered senior dogs like Winnie.

The first sign that your pup is getting older that you might spot is parts of their coat starting to turn gray (especially around their muzzle), but don't worry, that part is just cosmetic.

Be sure to keep up with your senior dog's regular vet visits, and give them extra love. A fun birthday party to celebrate another year with them isn't going to hurt, either!

Chihuahua Has Hilarious 'Psychotic Break' When Mom Stays in the Kitchen Too Long

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 8:10am

My senior Dachshund has a very calm and even temperament, except when it comes to food. If dinner is just a mere one minute late, she vents her anger over my tardiness by whining, pacing, and giving me plenty of looks of disdain.

Franklin the Chihuahua takes things a step (or several steps) further when he's upset and goes into full-on meltdown mode over what rubs him the wrong way.

@stacychermol

Because I stayed in the kitchen too long. Mind you, my daughter is 3 inches from him 🤦🏻‍♀️ #screamingchihuahua #clingydog #chihuahua #dogmom #dogsoftiktok

♬ original sound - Stacy&Franklin 🐶💅

In the TikTok from @stacychermol, Franklin stood on the living room furniture and let his feelings fly. He tilted his head back and howled, barked, whined, and basically screamed to show his extreme dismay over something that most people would consider a non-issue.

"Your front row seat to Franklin's psychotic break," the onscreen text read, with the caption explaining, "Because I stayed in the kitchen too long. Mind you, my daughter is 3 inches from him."

Apparently, Franklin takes umbrage at his mother's absence even if it's momentary. The vocal Chi practically exhausted himself with his antics, spinning in circles as he loudly verbalized his displeasure. It's like he didn't know what to do with all that pent-up energy and had to verbalize every single emotion.

When his mom finally came into the room, Franklin was able to collect himself and calm down. Followers got a kick out of the fur baby's frenetic behavior and were even a little impressed with his flair for drama.

"He puts his whole back into it, don’t he?" one noted.

"I need to vent like Franklin," another remarked.

"Franklin is me about three times a day because I have no chill," a follower shared.

"I love the little rage twirls during his scream sessions," someone commented.

Why Are Chihuahuas So Vocal?

Chihuahuas definitely have a penchant for expressing themselves. These little drama kings and queens can make a racket due to various reasons, including:

Related: 'Unique'-Looking Chihuahua Mix Has the Internet Guessing His Heritage

  • Seeking attention
  • Fear and anxiety
  • Territorial instincts
  • Boredom or lack of mental stimulation
  • Medical issues or physical discomfort

Some Chihuahuas are just extra vocal as part of their peppy personality, or, like Franklin, they have a lot to say and want everyone to know what's on their mind.

This Furry Little Chihuahua Mix Looks Like a Fierce Hyena and Has the Personality to Match

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 8:00am

I already know I would get absolutely nothing accomplished if this puppy lived at my house. I would spend all day cuddling him, kissing his tiny face and telling him how handsome he is while completely ignoring my dishes, my laundry, all of my responsibilities.

Some puppies look like tiny teddy bears. Others look like little potatoes with legs. But this ridiculously cute Chihuahua mix somehow resembles a cross between a hyena, a porcupine and a woodland fairy creature, which is exactly why the internet has fallen completely in love with him.

Once he reaches his prey, he proudly starts chewing on it with all the confidence of a much larger animal.

Related: Chihuahua’s One ‘Miracle Puppy’ Means the World to Her

Which is funny because he genuinely looks like a miniature hyena.

Or maybe a hyena porcupine.

Honestly, science may never know.

The comments section was absolutely losing it.

• "Teacup hyena?"

• "Ahhh! The elusive Chihuacupine."

• "A Chihuahua porcupine! So rare…"

• "OMG he's adorable, he actually looks like a little hyena lol."

• "Adorable but are we 1000% sure that's a dog?"

• "Porcupine/Hedgehog/Hyena/Wolverine!"

Personally, I think "Chihuacupine" deserves to be officially recognized by the scientific community.

Because look at this little guy.

He has approximately seven hairs standing straight up and enough confidence to conquer the world.

And I'm not sure I have seen a little puppy wuppy this adorable in AGES. Gimmie!

Summer can be an ideal time to welcome a new dog into the family.

Children are often home from school and can help with walks, socialization and training. The warmer weather also makes potty training and outdoor exercise much easier than during cold winter months.

Adopting during the summer gives dogs several months to settle into their routines before the busy holiday season arrives. New pets have time to learn house rules, build trust and become comfortable in their new homes.

Plus, there are few better ways to spend a summer evening than sitting outside with your new best friend.

Even if that best friend looks suspiciously like a tiny hyena.

Blue Cat’s Emerald Eyes Look Like Magical Fine Jewelry

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 8:00am

Cats come in more colors than I ever thought possible. When I was a child, we had a white cat and a black one, but I'd seen orange cats on the street. I assumed that was it, and that there were no other colors of cats out there.

I was corrected eventually, and now, I know more than I ever thought I would about cat colors. Some of them are just so beautiful, like this Russian Blue cat with her stunning emerald eyes:

@lookitstelly

Very quick update to show proof of Telly wellness and say that I think I can officially breathe a complete sigh of relief. Today we are in a much better spot than a week ago when I was genuinely terrified for my girl. What started as a simple upset tummy spiraled into something that had us very concerned, especially for a cat who already has questionable tummy function, but I am happy to report that although she sure didn't make it easy on us, we are finally to a point we can say we are moving past this. We appreciate everyone's concern and support ❤️ #catsoftiktok #cattok #greycat #cathealth

♬ original sound - TellyBeans

Telly the Russian Blue is one of my favorite cats to talk about because she's super cool. There are a few things about Telly that make her stand out:

  • She has huge, green eyes.
  • She has a beautiful coat.
  • She has many extra toes.
  • Though she's full-grown, she's still the size of a kitten.

Telly's mom bottle-fed her when she was a kitten. They weren't sure if she was going to make it, but she did, and now she's thriving! These days, she can be a bit of a brat sometimes, but that's what her mom loves about her!

Related: Maine Coon Cat Gives Birth to a Litter of Tiny Storm Clouds

Telly has a pretty standard Russian Blue coat, but she also has the pinkest, most adorable toe beans in the world. There are so many of them, too:

@lookitstelly

Throwback to fresh pink beans ❤️ #catsoftiktok #polydactylcat #cattok #greycat

♬ Monet's Diary - James Quinn

For the record, cats are supposed to have 5 paw pads on their front paws and 4 on their back paws, for 18 total. Telly, however, has 12 on her back paws alone! She's so cool!

More About Russian Blue Cats

Telly is a pretty classic Russian Blue cat: her coat is a solid, saturated grey/blue color, and she has emerald eyes, which are standard for this breed. She's small, but she's beautiful!

Sunrise@dawn Photography / Getty Images

Russian Blue cats aren't rare, but they can be hard to come by sometimes, and purebred Russian Blues can be expensive. You can often find mixes, if not purebreds, in shelters! You just have to know where to look. These cats are:

  • Playful.
  • Talkative.
  • Independent.
  • Eager to please.

Telly checks all of those boxes and more. She's a total princess, and that's exactly the life she deserves!

Mom-to-Be Practiced Swaddling on Her 80-Pound Bulldog—'You're a Beautiful Baby Boy'

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 4:52am

Before a baby arrives, someone will tell you to practice swaddling. What they will not tell you is what to practice on. Jupiter's mama figured out a practical solution all on her own. The solution weighed 80 pounds and was already at home.

The TikTok from @jupiterthebulldog captures the whole thing. The caption: "& then he loved it and y'all loved it so it became a daily thing. 🤣" His mom's text overlay says it plainly: she needed to practice swaddling before her baby arrived and she used her 80-pound bulldog.

Jupiter had no idea what was about to happen.

Meet Jupiter. He is an English Bulldog, predominantly white with red markings and built like a very warm, very happy piece of furniture. He’s what people affectionately refer to as a chunka monka boy and that tracks. He is 80 pounds of hefty, hearty and ready-for-anything energy and his mama's willing assistant for any task at all. There’s no job too small. No job too big. And, no job too embarrassing, including this one.

@jupiterthebulldog

& then he loved it and y’all loved it so it became a daily thing. 🤣 #onthisday #jupiterthebulldog

♬ original sound - Jupiter

First, the Arkansas Razorback blanket came out. A large throw blanket was needed because Jupiter is not quite as small as he might imagine. Things needed adjusting almost immediately. "We're just gonna do it between your legs because you’re a little big." The tucking happened. The folding happened. The diamond fold was attempted with full commitment. When it was all over, Jupiter's little feet were still popping out the bottom.

Then, mama earnestly asked: "I have swaddled you. How do you feel?"

Related: Golden Retriever's Human Just Realized She's Actually His Emotional Support Animal

Jupiter accepted the whole thing with complete calmness.

"You're a beautiful baby boy."

He absolutely was. He is. The swaddle worked perfectly ( almost). At least mom wasn’t practicing diapering. Thankful for small mercies.

What started as nervous preparation became something much better. Jupiter loved every second of it. The routine stuck. A daily ritual and a little extra time with his mama before the new baby arrives. That is the kind of dog he is.

Science Says Your Dog Has Been Training You for Parenthood All Along

Turns out practicing on Jupiter makes a lot more sense than it sounds.

According to research from Shelly Volsche, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Boise State University, humans are actually hardwired to take care of others. Not just their own children. Others in general. Volsche found that this same instinct to care for beings who are not biologically ours flows naturally toward the animals living in our homes.

Her research looked at nearly a thousand people and found that dog and cat parents across the board reported high levels of training, play and care with their animals. People without human children were especially likely to use words like "mom" and "kids" when talking about their pets and to see them as real individuals. The connection was not make-believe. It was genuine.

As Volsche reminds us, "who and when we parent is much more flexible than you might initially believe."

So no, practicing swaddling on your English Bulldog is not weird at all. It’s just how humans are built. You needed to nurture something. Jupiter was there. The blanket was big enough.

After a few more months of daily practice Jupiter's mom will be a pro. Jupiter gets a little extra one-on-one time with his mama before the baby comes. He’s been getting her ready for this all along.

He just weighs 80 pounds and his feet stick out.

So how does it work? For starters, the feeder’s body acts as a mesh-like chamber with an access opening near the top where you pour in bird seed. From there, simply fill it up, hang it from a tree branch, post or garden stake and watch as birds fly in to peck at the seeds through the mesh.

Though it has yet to receive any reviews detailing how shoppers have enjoyed its presence in their own yards, it has still earned a 5-star rating, which makes sense considering how stunning the piece is. Whether you snag it for yourself or for a bird-loving garden enthusiast, both parties will find it to be a welcome addition to their space.

Planning to snatch one up this week? We recommend heading out sooner than later, as once word gets out, it’s only a matter of time before others have the same idea. While you’re at it, take a peek at Hobby Lobby’s dog-themed $2 home decor block and charming Birds & Flowers coffee mug as well.

Orange Cat Mom Can't Move After Her Kittens and Newborn Baby All Pile on Top of Her

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 7:20pm

Sometimes your mom works too hard! This Orange cat mom, as well as the newborn human mom, is guilty of this.

In a new heartwarming and hilarious video, the mom was trying to Mom all her creatures, both feline and human, and the results left her trapped on the couch in a cuddle pile.

@elenaracri

Looks like she's going to be there a while, so she'd better accept her fate.

Though the one kitty is perched on the windowsill, that baby and the other Orange Cat are going to keep her pinned down for quite a bit.

As you can imagine, the comments section for this viral cat video was pretty funny.

"Oh, you're living the dream," one person wrote.

Another asked if the trio was triplets.

"And that's exactly when you suddenly need to pee," another commenter wrote.

Why Cats Are Drawn to Babies and Young Children

For any cat and new baby moms, this video is quite relatable.

Some commenters pointed out that the one Orange Cat lying on his mom next to the baby is a little jealous of his new human sibling and insists on being close to mom as well.

Or is the kitty just drawn to the baby?

Though cats are often thought to be standoffish and aloof, especially when it comes to new babies, they can actually be very maternal.

Felines have a strong instinct to protect their own young, and this can apply to other vulnerable animals, like human babies.

Another reason cats may feel drawn to babies is that cats do form deep social bonds with humans.

Clearly, this Orange Cat has a very strong bond with his mom, so he would be naturally drawn to her baby.

Once the newborn comes home, the cat can feel very protective of this new human and stay close by, and if he gets to cuddle with his mom, too, then it is even better!

Cats are also drawn to the smell of new babies.

An infant has a new smell that kitties are very intrigued by, as they form closer bonds with little ones.

Though they are sleeping in this video, cats also like to play with babies.

Babies can be amusing to kitties, and they can form natural friendships, especially with all those fun and colorful baby toys.

This White American Eskimo Dog’s Post-Lawn-Mowing Adventure Comes With a Surprising Makeover

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 6:55pm

Summertime is always fun for families because there's so much more we can do outdoors to make memories. And they don't even have to be elaborate plans; sometimes just hanging out in the yard or doing chores is enough to find some excitement. And when you have a dog with light-colored fur, well, cutting the grass becomes a fun adventure.

In this video, we meet a white American EskimoDog who had a fun time watching her parents cut the grass, and her post-lawn adventure comes with a surprising makeover. Take a look!

@thebonndotcomm

Every. Time. I. Mow. My puppy mill rescue is scared of thunder but will walk right behind a lawn mower and roll in the grass #momtok #dog #dogsoftiktok #dogmom #rescuedog

♬ QKThr - Aphex Twin

Shared on TikTok by Bonnie (@thebonndotcomm), the video is of her adorable rescue pup, Angel, a very fluffy, very white American Eskimo Dog. The video starts with a joke: Angel's mom pretends to ask herself whether she mowed the lawn today and looks surprised, but it's obvious. Why was it obvious? Well... Angel gave it away very quickly when the camera panned over to her.

Instead of her fluffy white fur taking center stage in Angel's look, she's been transformed. She's now green, like the Grinch, and it's hilarious. She very obviously had fun rolling around in the grass, turning green in the process.

In the comments, hundreds of people had a good giggle at Angel and the fact that she's turned herself from a bright white American Eskimo Dog into a funny green color.

Another shared, "I have a dog named Blueberry. When I mow, I call her Greenberry."

Someone else added, "I thought you were just gonna show some green beans, not the whole plant."

Other comments included, "Does she glow in the dark now?" "I bet she smells so good though," "We love environmentally friendly natural dye," "You caught a shiny," and "IDK what I was expecting... but it wasn't the green floof."

Why Dogs Love Rolling in Grass, and What Pet Parents Should Watch Out For

Angel looks like she had a fun time outside after the grass had been cut, and even though we can't see exactly what she did, it's pretty clear the little one rolled around in the cut grass, given she's fully green. But why do dogs love to roll in the grass? Well, a few reasons.

According to PetMD, it's totally normal for dogs to roll around in the grass, and there are a few reasons why your pup might like it. One reason, the site explains, is that it's a good way for pups to scratch their backs. Dogs can't reach their backs, so rolling around can be a way to scratch an itch, or just to give them the feeling they love. It can be particularly enjoyable after the lawn is cut because there may be sharper edges to reach the hard-to-itch spots.

Other reasons a pooch might roll around in the grass include covering up another animal's scent, masking their own scent, or communicating through scent.

If your dog is rolling around in the grass, keep an eye on them to see if they're doing it more for fun than because something is irritating them, like an itch. PetMD also says that if you do let your pup roll around outside in grass, it's a good idea to have them on flea and tick prevention medication to make sure those don't become an issue.

Also, if you have a white dog like Angel, be aware that they can temporarily turn green if they roll in wet, freshly cut grass.

Hyperactive Rescue Kitten Tries Befriending a Blind Dog in the Most Chaotic Way

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 6:10pm

Dogs and cats living under the same roof often bond over time. Sometimes the friendships take a while to form, where others happen instantaneously. Usually, the more confident and forward of the two fur babies makes the first move toward companionship.

Radio is a tiny rescue kitten with a whole lot of energy, and she recently introduced herself to Iago, a blind senior dog who just moved into Old Souls Animal Rescue. Needless to say, the pretty kitty left Iago a bit speechless.

@oldsoulsanimalres

Thankfully for this rescue kitten, the new resident blind dog at Old Souls Animal Rescue wouldn’t hurt a fly! Stay tuned for a less chaotic introduction to him tomorrow! #rescuekitten #rescuekitty #animalrescue #animalsanctuary #trendingaudio

♬ son original - LePtitMilo

In the TikTok from @oldsoulsanimalres, Iago was calmly eating a snack in a cozy room filled with toys and blankets. The senior pooch recently moved into the rescue and was still finding his way around.

Radio took it upon himself to make sure Iago felt at home and immediately attempted to strike up some sort of game. The kitten playfully pounced toward Iago and bounced around while the canine cutie tried to eat. Since Iago can't see, he may have thought he was surrounded by a mini tornado by the way Radio was acting.

The feline fur baby got so caught up in his own excitement, he tumbled a few times before getting back up and starting his makeshift getting-to-know-you game with Iago.

Iago Calmly Accepted Radio's Antics

Though he was the new kid on the block and still unfamiliar with the rescue, Iago took Radio's antics in stride. Apparently, the precious pooch is very gentle and already making new friends.

"Thankfully for this rescue kitten, the new resident blind dog at Old Souls Animal Rescue wouldn’t hurt a fly!" the caption shared, and promised "a less chaotic introduction to him tomorrow!"

Sweet Cat Can't Stop Grooming Her Sleeping Brother, and Viewers Are Obsessed

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 10:55am

We should all hope for a sibling who takes care of us as much as this sweet female cat grooming another cat in this new heartwarming video.

This black-and-white female cat is taking her responsibility for grooming her gray brother cat very seriously, while he just sleeps through the bath.

Viewers can't get enough of this sweet sibling behavior!

Imagine waking up to realize you had a full grooming session without even knowing it!

We especially enjoyed the comment someone wrote, "That’s what happens when you live with a boy."

Why Cats Groom Each Other

So why do cats groom each other?

Is it just about hygiene? Or could it be more complex than that? Is it about social dominance, emotional bonding, or could it actually be a source of aggression?

When one cat grooms another, it's called allogrooming, and many animals participate in this ritual, including monkeys, birds, horses, and bees.

Though the ancestors of cats were often solo hunters, living on their own, today cats aren't only in domesticated, multi-cat households but also in feral cat colonies, forming social hierarchies and pecking orders.

A 2004 paper published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery found that allogrooming was an important part of the socialization of felines in feral cat colonies.

Some kitties would actively seek out allogrooming from cats with whom they had close relationships.

From the study: "The recipient of the allogrooming is typically highly cooperative, tilting
and rotating its head to provide access to the groomer, and often purring. A cat may solicit allogrooming by approaching another cat and flexing its neck, exposing the dorsal surface and side of the head to the cat being solicited. Allogrooming is more frequent between preferred associates than between non-preferred associates. Allogrooming may or may not be immediately reciprocated."

The sweet cats in this video are obviously domesticated and happen to be siblings, so their social bond is already strong. Clearly, this sister cat loves her brother and just wants him to be cleaner!

Walmart's Expandable Cat Backpack Lets You Go on 'Kitty Cat Adventures'

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 10:12am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Looking for a way to take your kitty on walks with you, but your cat's just not interested in harnesses that much? Why not try a backpack-type carrier instead? The Back Extension Cat Backpack is only $34 at Walmart, and it has a 4.6 out of 5 star rating.

This expandable backpack has a transparent bubble front and expandable mesh back. Essentially, it pulls out into a tent for more outdoor time. That means your kitty has more room to play when you've reached your destination and expand the carrier.

The space capsule backpack has nine vent holes and two side windows for better air circulation. It's lightweight, wear-resistant, and only weighs three pounds. (The manufacturer recommends this backpack for cats that weigh 1 to 12 pounds or dogs that weigh 1 to 10 pounds.)

The backpack has side access for an easy in-and-out without zipping the main compartment. It also has a built-in leash clip to secure a harness and collar, and a soft plush mat with a hard base to help support your pet's weight.

According to the manufacturer, this backpack is airline approved. (Of course, you should always consult your individual airline just to make sure.)

"My cat loves it. He took a nap in it as soon as we got it opened," says one buyer.

"So far this is good for my cat," writes one reviewer. "I love the color and ... the extender at the back when I bring him to the yard."

Another person says they love that they can bring their pets out for "kitty cat adventures."

"I can now bring my babies out for adventures. Comfortable and durable and awesome!" they write.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line: the Back Extension Cat Backpack is a marvelous deal for only $34 and free shipping. The fact that it's expandable makes it a lot more fun for your kitty. It's great for travel, walks around the block, backyard adventures, or trips to the veterinarian, according to reviewers.

As with any new cat product, you'll want to test your kitty with it first, and slowly let them get used to the backpack over time.

Sweet Senior Cat Returns to Shelter 7 Years After Adoption 'Due to No Fault of Her Own'

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 10:10am

Dogs and cats adopted from shelters are sometimes returned for various reasons including financial difficulties, relocation, or health issues. The transition can be traumatizing for pets who've known one home most of their lives, where it's difficult for them to adjust back to shelter living.

Sky is an 11-year-old cat who was recently brought back to NAWS Humane Society and she's waiting for a second chance at happiness.

@franflight

My sweet and perfect little girl Sky broke my heart when we heard she was coming back to us. Sky is very healthy, other than being overweight and having mild arthritis in her spine. 😔 Sky is good with other chill/relaxed cats and would do best in a quiet/calm home. Sky isn’t posted in our website yet, but you can submit a generic cat adoption application at nawsus.org if you are serious about making her apart of your family. I’m sending all of you SO much love, hopefully we have a happy ending for Sky soon. 🥹🤍🫂 #adopt #adoptdontshop #cat #catsoftiktok #catadoption

♬ come into my arms cover - kaylagc._

The TikTok from @franflight told Sky's story and why she's back at the shelter.

"Seven years ago, Sky had her happy ending," the onscreen text shared. "She's 11 now and back at the shelter due to no fault of her own. Sky's previous parent passed away."

A NAWS staff member spent some time with Sky in the hopes of getting the pretty kitty to come out of her shell, and noted the challenge of getting an older cat adopted. Yet Sky offers so much to any family willing to give her a chance.

"As a senior cat, she will be overlooked, no matter how sweet and gentle she is," the story continued. "She can be a little shy but once she trusts you, she seeks out the love she has previously known."

Sky Hopes for a Forever Home

The feline fur baby has a sweet and gentle personality, and can even be silly at times once she feels safe. Other than being a touch overweight and having minor arthritis in her spine, Sky is very healthy and good with other calm cats. She would do best in a quiet home.

"She just needs to find her person," the onscreen text explained as the staff member snuggled with Sky in her lap. The loving feline seemed to absorb every ounce of affection she was given.

Followers flooded the comments with praise for Sky and encouragement on finding her a forever family. Sky will be on the NAWS website very soon and those interested in adopting her are advised to fill out an application.

This Mammut Bulldog Has Toffee Coloring So Beautiful, It Looks Like She Was Painted by Hand

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 10:00am

Some dogs are cute.

Some dogs are beautiful.

And then there are dogs so ridiculously gorgeous that you briefly wonder if somebody used Photoshop on real life. Seriously, this little girl has been accused of being AI and once you see her, you can understand why people are so in love.

That's exactly how I felt when I saw Marnie.

@marniemoo123

The stunning clip was shared by the TikTok account for @marniemoo123 and features Marnie, a beautiful Mammut Bulldog sitting on the stairs looking like she belongs in the centerfold of Dog Vogue.

Related: Sable German Shepherd Puppy’s Fur Color Is Impossible To Ignore

Between her rich toffee colored coat and those icy blue eyes, Marnie genuinely looks like somebody hand-painted every detail with a tiny brush.

Honestly, she's almost unfairly pretty.

The video itself is simple. Marnie sits on the stairs and occasionally gives adorable little head tilts that somehow make her even cuter. Which frankly feels excessive when you're already blessed with supermodel looks.

The comments section was completely smitten.

  • "Oh Marnie, I'd drive all the way around the country just to hug you one time," one person wrote.
  • "Marnie are you even for real? You are so gorgeous," another viewer commented.
  • "I am so in love with your puppy," someone else added.
  • Others couldn't stop talking about her beautiful coat: "Her coloring is just stunning. She's almost too pretty," one fan wrote.
  • And another summed things up perfectly with, "Adorableness overload."

Honestly, if Marnie ever started selling skincare products, I would probably buy whatever she recommended.

The Mammut Bulldog is a relatively rare breed developed from several bulldog lines with the goal of creating a healthier, more athletic companion dog. They are known for their muscular builds, loyal personalities and affectionate nature.

Despite their impressive appearance, many Mammut Bulldogs are gentle family dogs that enjoy spending time with their people. They are often described as loving, intelligent and eager to be involved in everyday family life.

And judging by Marnie, apparently some of them are also ridiculously photogenic.

Cockatoo Puts Himself To Bed at Grandma's House Like a Perfect Little Child

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 9:20am

There’s something deeply suspicious about pets who suddenly discover manners the second they’re at someone else’s house.

At home, bedtime can be a negotiation, a chase scene, a dramatic protest, or a full family project. Then they go to Grandma’s house, and suddenly they’re calm, polite, emotionally regulated little angels who know exactly where they belong.

That appears to be the situation with this Cockatoo.

@sir.bentley5

Why can’t he do this at home for us 😭. Always kicking and screaming around bed time #cockatoo #bird #pets #animals #cute

♬ original sound - Sir Bentley

In the video, he puts himself to bed at Grandma’s house like the most perfect little child anyone has ever seen. No fuss. No chaos. No bedtime committee required. He just heads off like he understands the schedule and respects the household rules.

The video's caption wonders why he only does this at Grandma’s house, while the post caption has that familiar pet parent energy: “Why can’t he do this for us at home?” And honestly, that question belongs in the museum of pet mysteries right next to: “Why do they behave better for the vet tech?” and “How did they know I opened cheese from three rooms away?”

Because at Grandma's house, he's not a bird. He's a visiting grandchild with the very best manners.

One commenter had the funniest theory, suggesting that this is exactly what happens when Grandma spoils the grandbabies, slips them the forbidden goodies, gives them whatever they want, and then somehow she gets angel behavior in return. That’s a strong argument. Grandma’s house has always had different rules. Snacks taste better there. Blankets are softer. Everyone is more patient. Even birds seem to know the vibes.

The part I love most is how natural he makes it look. He seems to know the routine and lean right into it. That makes it even more hilarious for his actual family, who clearly would love to borrow this version of him at home.

If you’ve ever had a pet act like a tiny gremlin in your house and then transform into a perfect angel for someone else, this video hurts. You’re proud, but also a little offended. So he can do it. He simply chooses not to.

Cockatoos are smart, social, and chock-full of personality, which means they can be incredibly charming and incredibly selective about when they show off their best behavior. This little guy seems to understand that Grandma’s house is a special place where bedtime happens peacefully and everyone applauds him for being precious.

At home? Different management. Different contract.

Still, you have to respect the performance. He gave Grandma the sweet, responsible grandbird experience, and he gave his family more questions than answers.

Why Birds Thrive on Routines

Birds often feel more secure when their day has a predictable rhythm. Bedtime, mealtimes, quiet time, and cage routines can all help them understand what comes next. If your feathered friend struggles at night, try keeping the room calm, using the same bedtime cues, and rewarding peaceful settling without turning it into a big production.

VCA Animal Hospitals shares that pet birds need a safe, comfortable environment with daily care and consistency. A steady routine can make bedtime feel less like a battle and more like part of the day.

Grandma may have unlocked his best behavior, but the rest of us are taking notes.

Heroic Livestock Guardian Dog Chases Off Predator With Ease in Real Time

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 9:00am

Livestock guardian dogs work hard, day and night, to make sure farm animals are safe. Farm animals are part of your family: their safety is so important! Even more than that, though, the animals are often both a hefty investment and a source of income. Losing them would be awful.

One farm has some livestock guardian dogs, and they're just the best. Though the daytime is supposed to be the time they're relaxing after a long night shift, they'll perk up at even the inkling of a threat. That's exactly what happened for one Great Pyrenees:

@stefaniekirk7

Our dogs are one of the most useful things around the farm! #livestock #farmtok #homestead #guardiandog #fyp

♬ original sound - Jordan ✨

Stefanie Kirk clearly lucked out in this department. That dog knows exactly what she's doing, and she's not willing to go easy on any animal at all. Though Stefanie never said exactly what the predator actually was, commenters figured out that it's a Fox Squirrel.

Was it the biggest predator of all time? No, but that's not what matters: it's the instinct that does. She wasted no time getting up and chasing it as far away from the farm as she could, no matter what it was. That's exactly what a good dog should do!

Related: Livestock Guardian Puppy Responds to an Alert Like a Seasoned Pro

This heroic dog's name is Xena, and she's not just a fearless livestock guardian dog. She's also beautiful and very well-loved by her mom, who makes sure she always has what she needs to succeed:

@stefaniekirk7

Replying to @Andrea everyone meet the famous Xena! She's named after the warrior princess because she is a warrior dog! #livestock #fyp #homestead #farmtok #guardiandog

♬ original sound - 80s musics

She's responsible for cows! How cool is that?! You might not think that cows really need that; they're huge! Some predators are huge and incredibly persistent. You never know what could happen, and Xena makes sure that doesn't happen.

Are Fox Squirrels Dangerous?

Xena chased off one large Fox Squirrel. While it's easy to think that's nothing special, that's actually not the case!

David Jensen / Getty Images

While a Fox Squirrel won't go after your farm animals like an actual fox would, they're also not an animal you want to have around your farm. They cause damage in other ways, like:

  • Getting into your crops and chewing them up.
  • Nesting in your barn.
  • Raiding animal feed bins and contaminating the food.
  • Chewing up wires on expensive equipment.

Xena did the right thing by chasing this guy off! Honestly, she makes me want a livestock guardian dog for my bird feeders!

This Golden Retriever Waited for Her Favorite UPS Driver—What Happened Next Is Everything

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 8:55am

When it comes to making friends with strangers, dogs make their own rules, and it's usually because they know who has the goods (aka treats, pets, and lots of attention)! Golden Retriever Abbey chose a UPS driver named Ed to be part of her inner circle, but when the longtime visitor retired, the sweet pup's heart was broken.

Now, thanks to the universe, Abbey's mom and Ed came together to pull a few strings, and Abbey got the ultimate surprise!

@abbeysgoldenlife

Some stories don’t end…they keep going 🥹💛🤎#abbeyanded #ups #newbegginings #heartwarming #fyp

♬ Still Falling For You - From "Bridget Jones's Baby" - Ellie Goulding

Abbey's social media love story didn't end when Ed retired. Despite the initial confusion when the darling Golden Retriever continued going outside to wait for her favorite driver, Mom says Ed handpicked Ron to be Abbey's new UPS friend because he knew Ron was "the perfect replacement!"

Ron seamlessly took over Ed's former duties and seems to understand the high honor of this role. That's a good thing because Abbey has been captivating fans with her love and devotion for Ed for a long time now. People have been clamoring for a "pupdate" since the last post in May, so this hits the spot!

Related: Golden Retriever Waits To Be Picked up by Grandparents for Sleepover—She Packed Her Own Tiny Backpack

As part of the daily routine with Ed, the excited pup always retrieved her "stuffie of the day" to show off, and in exchange, he'd give her as many treats as she wanted. It's a precious tradition for the history books.

There are a few posts giving more insight into why Abbey fell so hard for Ed to begin with. One video highlights all the adorable dogs on the former driver's route who also have a crush, proving there's something really special about him.

Looking back, Abbey was completely smitten, and I think Ed felt the same:

@abbeysgoldenlife

Caught him just in time…he leaves for vacation tomorrow! I wuff you Ed!! 💛🌟#Abbeysgoldenlife #goldensoftiktok #dogsofttiktok #loveups#fyp

♬ original sound - Muneeb Dogs Remember People They Love

We already know dogs are highly intelligent and capable of having big feelings about the people they love. But in terms of remembering people who've left, experts say pups can have memories for years, sometimes for the rest of their lives.

Barri J. Morrison, DVM, tells PetMD that dogs have episodic and associative memory. Pups can recall events from the past, and then they connect experiences based on what they associate with those events.

Abbey learned to associate getting treats and feeling happy with seeing Ed, so it became a learned habit she reinforced every time, which became more memories.

Abbey and Ed have an amazing bond that transcends breed, species, space, and time. Those are some big shoes to fill, but if Ed gives his blessing to Ron, that's all Abbey—and the rest of us—needs!

This Adopted Rescue Cat's Face Is Stuck on Permanently Disappointed — and Honestly, It's a Mood

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 8:15am

Some cats have resting happy face.

Some cats have resting curious face.

And then there are cats like Orion, who look like they just found out someone ate the leftovers they were saving in the refrigerator.

Honestly? Relatable.

@catbrothersfromothers

This is Orion. We adopted him and his brother (from another mother) at a cat cafe. They lived together for a whole year through multiple shelters and a foster home! He only had 3 teeth when we got him but that’s never stopped him from being himself. Despite trying to give him wet food, he loves crunchies! He’s very active and loves to play with his brother and his toy bug ❤️ #confidence #cute #animals #teeth #periodontaldisease

♬ original sound - €

The adorable video was shared by the TikTok account for @catbrothersfromothers and introduces viewers to Orion, a tuxedo rescue cat whose permanently disappointed expression has the internet completely smitten.

Related: Black Cat With Perfectly White Face Plays the Sweetest Game of Peekaboo

According to his pet parents, Orion and his brother were adopted from a cat cafe after spending an entire year together, moving through multiple shelters and a foster home. Despite having only three teeth when they adopted him, Orion has never let that slow him down.

In fact, while his humans have tried offering him wet food, the little guy apparently prefers crunchy kibble.

Because Orion makes his own rules.

The clip mostly shows the sweet tuxedo kitty sitting there looking deeply concerned about something none of us can see. His missing teeth create the most incredible little pout, making it appear as though he's permanently disappointed in everyone's life choices.

I would honestly apologize to him on sight.

The comments section was equally obsessed:

  • "That's okay, Orion sweetie. This is my facial expression most days too and I have my teeth," one person joked.
  • Another viewer said his expression was giving, "I'm not mad, just disappointed."
  • One commenter admitted, "I'd kiss his little face constantly."
  • And perhaps my favorite response described him perfectly: "He looks permanently concerned that nobody has opened a can of tuna in the last five minutes. Mister Smooshy Wooshy Face, Inspector Poutybeans."
  • Meanwhile, another viewer affectionately referred to his "skronky wittle face," which honestly feels scientifically accurate.

As someone with a senior cat named Tarkus who occasionally gives me deeply judgmental looks for reasons known only to him, I fully understand becoming obsessed with funny feline expressions.

Why Rescue Cats Make Incredible Pets @animalwelfareassociation

Everyone rushes to the kittens. But the shy ones? They're the hidden gems. Sylvia, Noodle, Spam, and Barry are ready for someone patient, kind, and loving. Could that be you? 🐾 #adoptdontshop #ShyCats #RescueCats #AdoptASeniorCat #AWANJ

♬ original sound - Animal Welfare Association

Rescue cats often form strong bonds with their families and can be just as playful, affectionate and goofy as any other cat. Many shelter cats adapt beautifully to their new homes and seem genuinely grateful for the love and stability they receive.

Adopting also gives deserving cats a second chance while helping shelters make room for other animals in need.

And sometimes, as Orion proves, you also end up with a permanently disappointed little face that somehow makes your day better every time you look at it.

Chewy's Cute Mason Jar Hummingbird Feeder Is Only $5 — 'Love This Design'

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 8:03am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you're looking for a unique and inexpensive way to feed the hummingbirds in your yard, then you'll want to check out this feeder from Chewy. The Natures Way Mason Jar Hummingbird Feeder is just $5 at Chewy. And based on reviews, it really works!

This easy-to-use feeder has four feeding ports so it can attract multiple hummingbirds at once. It has a wide opening, that makes it easy to fill and clean. Plus, the jar and the feeding ports are top-rack dishwasher safe! In fact, all the feeder parts are removable, allowing you to thoroughly clean the feeder.

The glass dish is made to be durable, and the flower feeding ports create a leak-free seal to prevent the nectar from dripping.

One happy buyer writes: "I bought two of these feeders and loved them so much that I ordered another. They are easier to clean than any of my other feeders."

This feeder normally costs $9, but for a limited time it's been marked down by almost 40%.

Shop it!

On Chewy's website, buyers have left a lot of positive reviews for this hummingbird feeder.

One reviewer calls it "one of my favorite feeders." They say the small size is actually a plus because it ensures the nectar doesn't go to waste. And it keeps out "all but the smallest bugs."

One buyer writes: "I love this design and the hummingbirds do, too. The smaller size helps motivate me to do what's right and change out the sugar water frequently."

"My new favorite feeder," another writer shares. "It is very easy to thoroughly clean and refill."

One reviewer advises that the only flaw (a small one) is that you shouldn't fill the mason jar all the way to the top with nectar, or the nectar will run out of the flowers and get sticky (and attract bugs.) Another person notes that you simply "don't fill above the red flowers and it will be fine."

Chewy offers free 365 day returns. For first-time orders, you can get free shipping with orders of over $35.
