Polite Golden Retriever ‘Keeps Mom’s Tater Tots Warm’ the Natural Way

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 3:00pm

Golden Retrievers are one of the most iconic dog breeds of all time, but they're also one of the goofiest. They all seem to share one brain cell, even if they've had the best training money can buy. There are just going to be some things they do that will leave you scratching your head every time.

This Golden Retriever definitely has that gene. When his mom had some tater tots for lunch recently, he decided he needed to be a gentlemen. What better way than to keep them warm with his nostril air?

@meganbartels1

Megan Bartels must feel so special. He's taking time out of his day to help keep her food warm! Some people might claim that this is begging or unacceptable, but keep in mind, there's at least a milimeter there.

Never mind the fact that the tater tot is basically swaying in the breeze. It's fine! It happens! What's important is that he didn't actually touch it. Though, if he had, there's a solid chance she might eat it anyway. There are just some realities of being a dog mom.

Related: Abandoned Golden Retriever’s Happy Hops After Rescue Are Pure Joy

Most likely, he was given that tater tot as a treat for being a good boy and not outright stealing it. It shows some real willpower and respect for her boundaries. I would genuinely call this a training success! This, maybe, is a little questionable:

I'm just kidding. It's totally normal for dogs to have excited little outbursts like this. That just means they love you and are happy to see you!

Can Dogs Have Tater Tots?

Cheese and potatoes really seem to be a top favorite for most dogs, despite the fact that they might be the two worst foods for them. The heart wants what it wants!

Dogs can eat tater tots in very small quantities, and if you're going to give them one, try to make sure you give them one that you made yourself, preferably in the air fryer or oven. Never give a dog a tater tot that has been:

  • Salted
  • Seasoned with anything else
  • Fried in oil
  • Dipped in anything not dog safe.

One tater tot here or there won't hurt, especially for a larger breed like this pup. It's the least he deserves after making sure it stayed warm!

This "Backpack Hero" Just Helped a Rare Corgi Mix Find His Forever Home

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 2:48pm

People in New York see a lot on the street, and yet, a man carrying a dog in a backpack still makes them stop.

Pet influencer Bryan Reisberg doesn’t do it for attention. He does it because it works as he hopes it will: get people to take notice of shelter dogs and get his furry companions adopted.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Thanks to his walks around the city with shelter dogs, these animals that might sit unnoticed in a shelter suddenly get seen. People ask questions and follow along. Sometimes, the dog that goes for a simple walk with him outside of the shelter ends up with a forever home.

Related: Mama Was the 15-Year Shelter Dog No One Noticed—Until This Moment

It All Started With His Own Dog

Before he was known as the guy with the dog backpack, he just had Maxine, a corgi with a big personality and the kind of presence that draws people in. She turned everyday walks into conversations. People stopped and asked about her. They remembered her.

That’s where the idea came from. If one dog could spark that kind of attention, what would happen if he used it to help other dogs?

A Dream Day for Jax the Corgi

The latest pup to take a walk with him was Jax, a corgi mix. They hit the park first, and Jax did what corgis do: nose down, moving from scent to scent like he had a map only he could read.

I carry shelter dogs around NYC in a dog backpack to help them get adopted. Meet Jax!
by u/kittytime in aww

At one point, Reisberg joked that sniff walks don’t really apply to corgis. They’re not exploring. They’re hunting for food.

They stopped at a toy store, took a photo booth picture and ended the day with a puppuccino. It's the kind of trip most shelter dogs never get.

Somewhere in the middle of it, he laughed and said, “Maxine is going to kill me,” knowing exactly how his own dog would feel about the corgi competition.

And in a Reddit update in r/aww, Reisberg delivered the best news: Jax was adopted after his video went online.

People Are Loving This Idea

The reaction online was immediate. One person wrote, “So glad to hear he got adopted already! Been following on IG for a while, have so much respect for what you do. Keep it up!”

Some saw more than just a feel-good story. They saw an idea that could spread. Someone wrote in the comments: “It’s a brilliant idea!!! I hope it inspires others to do something similar because it’s incredibly effective. I would do it in a heartbeat but I’m in the boonies… surely there’s something similar I could think of…”

This isn’t Reisberg's first success either. He has helped several dogs find homes just by walking them through the city and letting people connect with them in real life.

The Right Dog Finds the Right Person Faster

Videos like this spread for a reason.

People don’t just see a dog sitting in a kennel. They see how that dog moves through the world. How he reacts to noise. Whether he leans into people or keeps his distance.

Those small details can decide adoptions. Jax didn’t wait long after his day out. He was adopted soon after his video made the rounds.

A Simple Idea That Keeps Working

There’s no complicated plan behind this. Take a dog out of the shelter, put him in the middle of real life and let people meet him without a kennel door in the way.

It answers the question most adopters have but can’t always figure out inside a shelter: What is this dog like when he’s just…living?

Jax answered that in one afternoon and got his forever home in the process.

This Orange Cat Sees a Catio for the First Time and Immediately Has Questions

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 1:31pm

Every day is a new day full of possibilities. Jack the orange cat stood at the threshold of his new catio, completely frozen. Right beside him, his dad practically vibrating with excitement. In front of him? An entirely new existence.

The Instagram video shows Jack's first two minutes ever experiencing the impressive catio his human built for him three years ago. And those first two minutes are a masterclass in feline emotional processing.

"Hey, Jack. What are you doing?" his human asks gently. "Come on. Come over here. You can come out here."

Jack is not falling for it. This is too much. There are birds. There's warm sunshine. There's wide open space. What kind of trap is this?

View this post on Instagram

His dad continues with the support: "Come on out here. You can come in the catio. Hey, big boy."

Jack takes one cautious step for cats one giant step for feline-kind. Then another. His body is low to the ground, taking in every new sensation—the breeze, the sounds, and the smells. A bird suddenly flies by and Jack's eyes go wide.

"Oh sorry about that. Oh it's a bird Jack. It's scary."

But then something completely changes. Jack stretches; big, full-body stretch. And then—the happy rolls begin.

The text overlay explains exactly what’s happening: "Three years ago I built a giant catio and this is the first two minutes of him seeing it for the first time. He wasn't sure at first, but once he took his first steps. His 'happy rolls' are him saying 'thank you'."

Related: These Tiny Ducklings Have a Major Case of the 'Zoomies'—and They’re Faster Than Most Dogs

Jack flops onto his side and rolls, paws in the air, pure bliss radiating from every single orange whisker. His dad's voice cracks with emotion: "I love you, Jack. I'm so happy. Are you the happiest boy, Jack?"

The answer appears to be yes.

The Benefits of Catios for Kitties

What Jack experienced in those first two minutes is exactly why catios have become so popular among cat lovers. According to Gause Boulevard Veterinary Hospital, catios provide cats the mental stimulation they crave while keeping them safe from outdoor dangers.

These secure outdoor enclosure are designed to keep cats safe while they enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and the stimulating sights and sounds of nature. Cats are naturally curious—they love watching local wildlife and daydreaming as they sunbathe. A catio provides that enrichment without the risks of free roaming, which include traffic, predators, parasites, and getting lost.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

The benefits extend way beyond safety. Catios offer:

  • Mental stimulation from watching wildlife outside.
  • Physical activity through climbing structures and safe outdoor exploration.
  • Sunbathing (cats love soaking up warmth).
  • Fresh air and naturel sounds that indoor-only environments can't provide.
  • Protection for local wildlife (cats kill lots of birds and small animals annually).

The "happy rolls" Jack was doing aren't just precious—they're a genuine expression of pure cat contentment and gratitude. Often, cats will roll onto their backs and expose their bellies when they feel completely safe, relaxed and happy.

Three years later, Jack presumably still enjoys his catio daily. But those first two minutes—the hesitation, the wonder, the eventual joy—captured something special: a cat discovering that his dad just built and gave him an entire world.

Horse Throws Hoof-Stomping Temper Tantrum Over Mom Playing With His Siblings

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 1:00pm

Horses are very intelligent, kind, and gentle creatures. They make excellent companions, and they're often great with kids and even other animals. Sometimes, though, they're massive babies. They can get jealous sometimes!

If you don't believe me, just look at this horse: he loves to compete, and he loves to get attention from his mom. Unfortunately for him, though, he also has siblings. He's an only-horse at heart, and it shows:

@annabelle_alexander1

all thanks to @evokeessence for helping him feel good!

Annabelle Alexander's horse would love to be the only horse she knows, but unfortunately, we can't always get what we want. She competes in competitions with her horses, and having multiple allows her to make sure each horse is properly rested and cared for.

This horse's name is Phoenix, and he's about 25 years old. That's definitely a little old to be competing, but that's exactly why he's not doing it all the time. He competes occasionally, and she uses his siblings during his off times.

Related: $10 Million Horse Prancing Around the Show Definitely Knows His Worth

He does not like that! Whenever he sees them training with Mom, he just about loses his mind! He starts stomping and doesn't stop until someone gives him the attention he deserves. When he is competing, though, he's a true sight to behold:

You can just tell that this is exactly where he likes to be. This is what he was made for. This is where he thrives. If someone tried to keep me from doing what I love, I'd stomp my hooves, too!

Horses Need Enrichment

As one of the most intelligent species, it's important that horses are given the time, dedication, and respect they deserve. Horses get bored easily, so it's important that you make sure they have plenty of things to do every day.

A horse looking grumpy.

There are a bunch of ways to give a horse the enrichment they need! You could try:

  • Competitions (there are different types of competitions if you're looking for a less demanding one).
  • Getting them a friend or two, since they're very social.
  • Toys in their pasture.
  • Setting up little "scavenger hunts" for them.

Interaction with you, their handler, is incredibly important as well. Let you know you love them, even if their siblings get jealous!

Pet Parents Are Upgrading to This Oversized Cat Tree Designed Specifically for Maine Coons

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Pet ownership is evolving, and so is the way people design their homes around their animals. No longer limited to basic scratching posts or small perches, today’s pet furniture is expected to blend seamlessly into modern interiors while providing superior comfort and durability. And cat owners in particular are seeking solutions that cater to their pets’ natural instincts—climbing, scratching and observing—without sacrificing style.

As more people welcome larger cat breeds and highly active cats into their homes, the demand for sturdy, well-engineered cat furniture has grown significantly. Flimsy or undersized options simply don’t meet the needs of cats that love to jump, climb and lounge at elevated heights.

At the same time, pet parents are placing a greater emphasis on materials, preferring long-lasting construction and soft, comfortable surfaces. The result is a shift toward premium cat furniture that delivers both performance and aesthetic appeal.

The Artisan Solid Wood Cat Tree with Luxe Faux Fox Fur, priced at $199.99 at Wayfair, is designed to meet these modern demands. Built with hand-selected solid wood, this cat tree features massive pillars that create a foundation that feels exceptionally stable even for large, energetic breeds. Comfort is another standout feature. The entire structure is wrapped in high-density faux fox fur, offering a plush and luxurious surface that cats will naturally gravitate toward. It’s not just about softness either. It also adds a sophisticated and design-forward look that elevates the overall aesthetic of your space.

The oversized perch, measuring 18.9 inches, is specifically designed for larger cats, providing ample room to stretch, lounge and sleep comfortably. This XXL observatory gives cats a perfect vantage point to survey their surroundings, satisfying their instinct to perch up high.

Additionally, the inclusion of tightly wrapped natural sisal rope on the posts encourages healthy scratching behavior and helps protect your furniture by keeping your cat mentally and physically engaged.

Outdoor living spaces are becoming more intentional, with people focusing on creating environments that feel both relaxing and connected to nature. ‘Abnormally Huge’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel at Meetup Is Giving ‘How Do You Do, Fellow Kids'

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 11:00am

Just like people, dogs come in all different sizes. Your dog being larger or smaller than another dog of the same breed isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as your vet is aware and says they look healthy. Health is more important than numbers.

However, when you have one dog who's a lot bigger than others, it's still a little funny. For example, when one dog mom took her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to a dog meetup... She learned that her dog is definitely on the larger end!

@marniecavalierspaniel

Cavalier meet up ❤️#cavalierkingcharlesspaniels #cavalierkingcharlesspaniel #cavaliersoftiktok #saintpetersburg

♬ MI CHIQUITA - Alexander McCabe

Marnie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the sweetest girl ever. Despite the fact that she's a lot larger than the other CKCS at the meetup, she had a great time, and they all loved playing with her! It was just a little crazy for her mom to realize that her pup had gotten so big!

They're not sure exactly why Marnie is so big: she's a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, so it's not like she's mixed with anything that could be huge. However, despite her size, she's in good health and good spirits.

Related: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 'Discovers She's a Disney Princess' in Precious Clip

She's not being overfed, according to her mom, and they're going to have bloodwork done soon to determine what could be going on. When we're faced with something like this as dog parents, that's really all we can do! In the meantime, she's still getting plenty of exercise:

@marniecavalierspaniel

♬ hawaiian roller coaster ride - 🎸🪩

She might be big, but she's really spry, too! Her mom is doing the best she can, and it's working: Marnie is truly glowing!

How Big Should a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Be?

Even though all dogs are slightly different sizes, there are some general guidelines to follow to make sure they're as healthy as possible. The CKCS is a small breed, often categorized as a "toy breed." They're not very big at all.

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy sitting outside.

Image via Shutterstock / Alina Ziabrieva

Male Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are bigger than females, about 20ish pounds at their largest. Females typically weigh in at anywhere from 13-18 pounds, standing just over a foot tall. "Overweight" for a CKCS is about 25 pounds, especially for a female. Luckily, there are some weight loss tactics, like:

  • Adjusting their diet (with a vet's consultation).
  • Increasing their exercise.
  • Getting them checked for conditions that make losing weight difficult.

Marnie is in good hands. I can't wait to see more of her journey!

A Volunteer’s Temporary Job Led to the Sweetest Permanent Rescue Mission

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:48am

For more than two years, Clyde watched other dogs walk out of the shelter while he stayed behind. No one overlooked him because he was difficult. He just wasn’t the kind of dog who demanded attention. He stayed quiet, waited his turn and let the louder dogs go first. Day after day, that meant another goodbye that wasn’t his at the City of Tracy Animal Services in Tracy, California.

Time moves differently for long-term dogs. Staff learn their habits. Volunteers learn their walks. And some dogs slowly become part of the background.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Clyde, a rescue pit bull, was one of them.

Finally, Clyde's day came. In a news story published on YouTube by ABC10, a news outlet for Northern California, we finally get to see a happy Clyde going to his forever home.

The Volunteer Who Changed Everything

One of the animal shelter's temporary volunteers, Roberto, wasn’t even from Tracy. He was in town on a temporary work assignment from Indiana, with an easy excuse to stay busy after hours.

Instead, he showed up at the shelter.

Related: How One Man’s Genius Backpack Idea Gave Lily the Pit Bull a New Life

Not once. Not occasionally. Whenever he had free time, he walked dogs. Roberto focused mainly on the nervous and overlooked ones. He walked the ones who didn’t necessarily shine in a quick meet-and-greet.

If you’ve ever volunteered at a shelter, you know how this goes. You start by helping out. Then you start recognizing faces. Then, one day, a dog waits for you at the kennel door like you’ve always been theirs.

For Roberto, that dog was Clyde.

And then there was also Thor, another long-term resident who had already spent 280 days waiting.

The Moment It Stopped Being Temporary

People joke about “volunteer fails” in shelters. You go in to help, and you walk out with a dog you didn’t plan on keeping.

It’s what happens when routine turns into attachment. When you stop thinking of them as “dogs at the shelter” and start thinking of them as yours.

Roberto didn’t choose one dog. He chose two. When his work assignment ended in California, he made a decision to bring both Clyde and Thor home with him to Indiana.

Why We Shouldn’t Label Quiet Dogs

Long-term shelter dogs often get labeled without anyone meaning to do it. We may subconsciously put labels on them, like "too calm," "too overlooked" or "too easy to miss."

Clyde’s story pushes back on that.

He didn’t need to change to be chosen. He just needed someone to see him long enough.

In the comment section of the news story on YouTube, support poured in. One comment read, “Roberto is a great human. May you all have a long happy life together.” Another person wrote, “These pups are so thankful… and I’m so thankful they found a loving dad.”

Two overlooked dogs left their shelter together when one person decided they were worth it. That’s all it took to end 831 days of waiting. And on the drive to their new home in Indiana, the two dogs started their new life together side by side.

Dachshund Hears the Birthday Song and Immediately Starts Protesting

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:10am

All birthdays deserve some fanfare to celebrate another milestone year. The same rule applies to our fur babies, with party ideas specifically for dogs on the rise.

Still, some pooches prefer keeping things low-key and would rather not be the center of attention. Dublin the Dachshund appears to avoid any mention of his special day, especially if it's in song.

@dublinthedoxie

He hates it so badddd #birthdaysong #dachshundmoments #dachshundthings #fyp

♬ original sound - Dublin the Doxie

In the TikTok from @dublinthedoxie, the birthday boy sat on his mom's lap and lovingly stared into her eyes. She suddenly released the very first syllable of the "Happy Birthday" song, but stopped right after "hap" due to the concerned head tilt Dublin gave in response. She tried again with the same reaction.

The fur baby's mom finally began belting out the full tune, prompting Dublin to quickly jump off her lap and bark in protest. His mother was determined to sing the entire song to the darling Doxie despite his clear distaste for the melody. Dublin barked through the whole birthday anthem in hopes of drowning out his mom's singing. He even backed up into the corner to distance himself from the unpleasant scene.

It's unclear if Dublin just didn't like being in the spotlight or didn't want to be reminded of turning another year older. Maybe he wasn't a fan of his mom's singing. The video shared that this wasn't a one-time incident.

"He genuinely despises the birthday song," the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, "He hates it so bad." Followers empathized with Dublin's resistance to growing older.

"You know this is a sensitive subject for him," one pointed out.

"Perhaps he hates the passage of time," another suggested.

"Literally begging to be let out of the room," a follower noted.

"Refusing to grow older! YESSSSSS!" someone related.

Why Some Dogs React Strongly to Sounds

Whether it's a certain song, an alarm, a ringtone, or a car horn, many dogs have visceral responses to specific sounds. Their hearing is far superior to humans, where canines can hear frequencies from 40 Hz to 60,000 Hz as compared to only 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz in humans. This gives dogs a heightened sensitivity to high-pitched noises and low-frequency vibrations we can't hear, but they may find distressing.

Related: Dachshund Dad Steps in to Shower Puppy With Love After Mom Dies the Day He Was Born

Dogs are creatures of habit, so unfamiliar sounds — even songs they hear only once a year — can be off-putting to your pooch. Canines also pick up on emotional shifts in their environment and can be extra sensitive to abrupt changes. To go from a relaxed moment to a mini musical celebration may have been too extreme for Dublin.

Hopefully as each birthday passes, Dublin will grow to enjoy the melodic tribute to his marking another year of being loved.

Great Pyrenees Mix Has the ‘Fattest Puppy Ever’ and It’s Pure Joy

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:00am

When my dog was a puppy, she was absolutely one of the fattest little pups I had ever seen in my life. Her little puppy belly was everything to me, and that's part of why I chose her! Two and a half years later... She's definitely still a little chubby.

She has absolutely nothing on this Great Pyrenees puppy. In terms of a chunky puppy, he simply can't be beat, and he's not even 8 weeks old yet. There must be something magical in his milk supply:

@beefy.jenes

No puppies were harmed by rolling them into the den - Momma is just too good of a milker and babies are too good at eating 🍽️

♬ Cute Little Troublemaker - BGM Note

This TikToker's username being "beefy.jenes" fits so well that there aren't even words. He really must have beefy genes, because he's huge! She can't even scruff him. She had to roll him into her den instead, like he's a little boulder baby. Don't worry, though, he wasn't hurt at all.

He's not the only pup from this litter. Interestingly enough, he's not even the squishiest one! Seriously, her milk must be pure magic. She's produced three equally big babies. Usually, there's at least one who's a little smaller than the rest!

Related: Great Pyrenees Who ‘Eats Packages’ Looks Like a Hangry Polar Bear

These fat puppies and their mom all live on a cattle farm, where their mom is a livestock guardian! Most likely, at least one of them will stay on this farm to help their mama, but if they're lucky, maybe they'll all get to stay together! If that's the case, though, they'll be eating the farm out of house and home:

@beefy.jenes

Replying to @Biscuit I can’t handle it 😭

♬ Cute Aggression - Anthony Vincent

I'm so obsessed with them. I want them all, but I would especially love to take home that spotted one on the left. How precious! And since I have arms, I could probably just carry them instead of rolling them.

Why Are Puppies So Fat?

These Great Pyrenees puppies are a great example of puppy fat, which is something most puppies share, no matter the breed. When puppies are born, they're little squishy babies. As they get older, they slim out.

A small Great Pyrenees puppy smiling at the camera.

Image via Shutterstock / stacy keeling

In addition to puppies typically being born a little chubby, their mothers' milk contributes. In the beginning, the pups receive mostly colostrum, which is high in fat. As her milk production progresses, the fat level in the milk goes up until about a month. That's when you might notice they're the squishiest.

Puppies also have a lot of extra skin to help keep them safe while their mom is scruffing them. This will create "rolls," even if the puppy isn't that big. Basically, all puppies look like a busted can of biscuits for a while. When Great Pyrenees puppies grow up, they end up looking like polar bears!

This Great Pyrenees Is Having a 'Cuddle Fest' With a Tiny Dog and Cat—and It’s Pure Magic

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:55am

There's a very specific kind of joy that happens when a giant dog turns out to be softer than everyone in the room.

That is the entire magic of this video.

A Great Pyrenees, all fluff and guardian dog size, is curled up in what can only be described as a full-blown cuddle fest with a tiny dog and a Tuxedo cat. Not tolerating them. Not politely sharing space. Fully, deeply, sweetly in it. The whole scene has the energy of a children’s book someone forgot to make slightly less adorable.

@jadefavre16

POV: your kid cons you into buying a $120 Great Pyrenees out of the back of a van at an animal swap and he turns out to be one of the best things that’s ever happened to you. 💙 #greatpyrenees #dog #livestock #fluffball

♬ original sound - Jade Favre

The backstory makes it even better. The post explains that this dog entered the family in one of those wild, probably not advisable ways that somehow still ended in destiny: a kid talks the adults into a $120 Great Pyrenees out of the back of a van at an animal swap, and somehow that risky little decision turns into one of the best things that ever happened to them. You can feel that gratitude all over the clip. This isn't just a nice dog. This is a dog who changed the emotional weather of the house.

And what a presence!

Great Pyrenees pups are built like they were designed to guard mountains, but this one is using all that majestic size to host an interspecies snuggle summit. One comment says, “The Great Pyrenees are good protectors of all animals. They are sweet doggies,” and honestly, yes. That's exactly the feeling here. He's not just a big dog in a pile. He looks like a calm, furry wall of safety, and the smaller animals clearly know it.

The clip isn't only cute; it feels reassuring. A big dog choosing gentleness is one of the most universally satisfying things to watch. The contrast does half the work for you. Massive body, tiny companions, zero ego, full softness.

My dog Lola would absolutely think this looked like an open invitation to go herd the larger dog immediately, and like most of her plans involving bigger animals, it probably wouldn't go the way she pictured.

This giant dog has quietly become the center of a little animal universe, and now everyone just rotates around him because that's where the peace is.

That is a lovely thing to witness.

Not every hero wears armor.

Some of them are just large, white, and extremely available for cuddles.

How To Introduce a Big Dog to Cats and Small Dogs Safely

If a video like this makes you want your pets to become one giant cuddle pile, the safest path is slow introductions, not wishful thinking. The Humane World for Animals recommends making first meetings gradual and supervised, using barriers when needed, closely watching body language, and allowing each animal to have escape space and separate resources.

Breed temperament matters, too. The AKC describes the Great Pyrenees as confident, gentle, and affectionate, while also being naturally protective and watchful, which helps explain why some of them do so well in multi-animal homes when they are socialized thoughtfully.

A good intro is less “let’s make them be friends” and more “let’s give them enough safety and time to decide nobody here is weird.”

These Tiny Ducklings Have a Major Case of the 'Zoomies'—and They’re Faster Than Most Dogs

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:20am

Four tiny adorable ducklings, one room and absolutely zero chill.

The TikTok from @that.duck.dude1 captures what happens when baby ducks experience a phenomenon most people associate with puppies: the zoomies. And these little guys are putting on a show.

The caption reads: "Zoomies tonight for the little runners, got to love that feet slapping."

@that.duck.dude1

Zoomies tonight for the little runners, got to love that feet slapping #zoomies #runners #ducks #ducklings #feet

♬ original sound - That Duck Dude

The sound is what gets you first—the rapid-fire pitter-patter of tiny webbed feet slapping against the floor at maximum speed. Then they come into frame: Pipp, Frieda, Betty, and Truffles racing in chaotic circles around the room like some kind of adderrall fueled square dance. They’ve got the kind of energy that suggests they've been saving it up all day just for this moment.

The comments hilariously captured the chaos perfectly:

"I can't explain but they look like they should have arms 😂"

"Ahh, so you're my upstairs neighbor 😂"

Related: Senior Munchkin Cat Goes on 'Hot Girl Walk' and Struts Like She Owns It

"I love runner ducks!"

"I CAN'T TAKE THE PITTER PATTERING"

What Are the Zoomies—and Why Young Animals Get Them?

The "zoomies" are scientifically known as frenetic random activity periods, or FRAPs. According to PetMD's, these are sudden bursts of energy that typically includes running in big circles, often in a hunched position for maximum speed.

While zoomies are most commonly associated with dogs—especially puppies—the zoomies aren't species-specific. Various species of animals experience them, including cats, rabbits, ferrets, and yes, ducklings.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

The exact cause isn't fully understood, but experts believe zoomies are a way for animals to release pent-up energy, excitement, or even stress.I like to think of it as the equivalent to toddlers shaking the sillies out before bedtime. For puppies and young animals, it's often a bottomless pit of energy that needsto be spent.

Common triggers of the zoomies include:

  • High excitement (like playtime or feeding time)
  • Relief after an uncomfortable experience (like a bath)
  • The "witching hour" between 5-8 p.m., when energy peaks before bedtime
  • Pure playfulness and joy

For ducklings like Pipp, Frieda, Betty, and Truffles, evening zoomies appear to be part of their daily routine. Given how fast they move on those tiny legs? They're giving puppies serious competition in the zoomie speed department.

Runner ducks—a domestic breed known for their upright posture and running ability—are especially prone to sudden, impressive bursts of speed. Their tiny webbed feet are what create that distinctive slapping sound as they race. This only adds to the adorableness of the situation.

The TikTok video proves that when ducklings get the zoomies, there is no stopping them. No half measures. Just pure, chaotic energy and the delightful soundtrack of tiny feet on hard floors.

Rescue German Shepherd ‘Rates Dad’s Pets’ and Shows No Mercy

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:00am

If anyone told you a dog will appreciate any pets you have to give them, they were lying straight to your face. Once your dog feels comfortable in your home, they're going to have opinions on literally everything, from the volume of your sneezes to the quality of your pets.

One German Shepherd was rescued from a shelter, and even he knows that not all pets are created equal. Recently, he decided to rate his dad's petting game, and he wasn't in the business of sparing any feelings with his reviews:

@emptynestermishigas

I’m not content with the petting 😆 #germanshepherd #dogs #rescuedog #dogsoftiktok #dog

♬ original sound - shenanigans

Puppa the German Shepherd knows what he wants, and even if he's getting pets, he's a man of standards. He seems to prefer pets from mom, first of all, and he loves soft, slow pets. Rubbing is not his jam, and that's totally fine!

He's a rescue, which you might think means he's very grateful for pets in any form, and he is. Puppa just also wants to make sure everyone knows what he likes, and that's his right! The key to his forever home being happy and healthy for him is for everyone to be on the same page, and they definitely are.

Related: Shelter German Shepherd Begs Human To Hold His Paw and Gets the Happiest Ending

He came into a forever home that had just officially become empty: his new parents are empty-nesters. What do you do in the quiet years after you've finished raising kids? Raise a whiny, needy perpetual toddler who you'll love more than life itself:

@emptynestermishigas

life after kids #germanshepherd #dogsoftiktok #rescue #escapeddeathrow

♬ original sound - shenanigans

Clearly, it's just Dad who's the problem. Mom can pet Puppa whenever and however she likes, but Dad is the spare human. It's just the way the cookie crumbles when you have a dog!

The 'Right' Way to Pet a Dog

It's not something everyone thinks about, but there definitely are some different ways to pet a dog, and some are preferable to others to some dogs. You'll never really know what they like until they're in your home!

A German Shepherd lying on the ground.

Image via Shutterstock / Olena Kurashovall

There are a few different ways to pet a dog:

  • Smooth, one-way petting.
  • Rubbing.
  • Gentle patting.
  • Double-sided rubbing.

For a rescue dog, you should always start with a smooth, one-way pet: don't ruffle their fur or move too fast. They may take "rougher" petting as a sign of aggression. As they get more comfortable in your home, you can experiment with different styles of petting. My oldest dog prefers to be pet as if he's going through a car wash. He loves a good, firm pat!

Special-Needs Rescue Cat Thinks He's a Garden Fairy and Everyone's in Love

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 8:55am

There are millions of cats walking the earth at any given time, and yet only a select few of them live in my head rent-free. It takes something really special to give a cat that extra razzle-dazzle, and sometimes it can't be described in words—you have to see them to understand why they're *it*.

Once you get a glimpse of Elvis, the special-needs rescue cat in action, you'll get it. This precious boy has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), which makes him look wobblier than most. During a recent outside adventure, Elvis sported his adorable knitted frog hat, and people think he looks just like a magical garden fairy!

@tre.gatti.farms

Let’s go on an adventure 🐸 Elvis has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), and cats with CH have less control over their movements, and even their voices, so those big meows are just part of how they experience the world 🐾 Something unique about Elvis: gentle pressure, like his little hats, can actually help reduce his tremors a bit. That’s not typical for most CH cats, but it works for him if you needed this today… I’m really glad you found it #cat #cerebellarhypoplasia #elviswestley #nature

♬ Lord Of The Rings: The Shire (Concerning Hobbits) - Geek Music

Special-needs cats with CH don't have as much control over their body movements as other felines, but their wobbly ways are way too cute. Elvis is still very much a curious kitty who loves exploring, biting sticks (!), and bringing joy to everyone around him. He doesn't let his CH get in the way of living his best life, and we LOVE that for him!

Related: Special-Needs Cat Wobbles With Excitement Over Lookalike Stuffie

As Mom captioned, "Something unique about Elvis: gentle pressure, like his little hats, can actually help reduce his tremors a bit. That’s not typical for most CH cats, but it works for him."

Hats are iconic, and no one can wear a hat like Elvis, but Mom tested whether a shirt could help in the same way, and here's the end result:

@tre.gatti.farms

We tried a snug shirt for his tremors… and it helped, just not in the way we expected Elvis has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), which affects balance and coordination. Sometimes improving one thing can make another harder 🐾 So we keep learning, one wobble at a time #cat #cerebellarhypoplasia #elviswestley #love

♬ Free Fallin' - Tom Petty Why Hats Help Cats With Cerebellar Hypoplasia

Cerebellar hypoplasia in cats is a non-contagious, non-progressive neurological condition that affects the cerebellum to the point that it doesn't develop properly. Since that portion of the brain is responsible for coordination, cats will have permanent issues because of the tremors that occur when the kitty tries to move.

For some wobbly cats, lightweight hats like Elvis' offer gentle and consistent pressure to the head to help stabilize those tremors. That lets them focus more so they don't wobble quite as much—and that makes kitties feel confident and secure.

Though hats may not help every cat with CH—and they should be comfortable, not forced onto the cat—they do help some, and that can make an otherwise frustrating condition a little more tolerable. Some pet parents might try a hat or even a fitted shirt if either brings some relief. As for Elvis, there may never be a more precious or wobbly garden fairy in all the land!

Giant Mama Pig Becomes the Best Listening Companion and It's So Sweet

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 8:20am

Sometimes all you need is a good listener, even if that listener is in the form of a giant mama pig.

In this viral animal video, a giant mama pig becomes the perfect listening companion for a woman who just wants to talk about all the Summer House drama.

It's such a sweet moment that highlights a beautiful human-animal bond, even if this beautiful pig has no idea what Summer House or Bravo is.

Watch this sweet pig video!

@captureyourworld

mama is a great listener 🤪 #summerhousebravo #amandabatula #gigglysquad #summerhouse #bravotv

♬ original sound - Olivia | Photographer 📸 This Giant Mama Pig Loves Listening to Her Human

It turns out, pigs are pretty good listeners.

According to the National Institutes of Health, research finds that pigs are good listeners because they're able to emotionally respond to musical stimulation.

In the study, Vivaldi’s compositions were played for three different sample groups: pigs housed alone, pigs contained in limited space, and pigs housed together.

The researchers found that music reduced stereotypic behavior and helped the pigs become more relaxed.

They also found that pigs can communicate through vocalizations, so you may just think those grunts and oinks are cute and funny, but they actually have meaning behind them!

All of this indicates that pigs are indeed good listeners and capable of comprehending and then appropriately responding to different sounds.

Why Animals Can Be Such Comforting Companions

This video is especially funny because the woman is seriously telling this pig all about the Summer House drama because she has run out of humans to discuss it with, according to the caption.

In case you didn't know, Summer House is a Bravo reality show that has been getting a lot of attention recently for two castmates who are having an affair and the major fallout they are having with the other stars of the show (basically, one woman, Amanda Batula, is dating her best friend's ex-boyfriend, and she isn't even divorced from another castmate yet).

That's some hot gossip, and this piggy wants to hear all about it... or maybe she just likes lying down in the sun, but now we know pigs are good listeners, so perhaps this piggy is all about the tea.

Rare Ragdoll-Maine Coon Mix Can’t Get Enough of a ‘Fancy’ Paper Bag

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 8:00am

Cats are all very fancy, but there are some who take it to the next level. When you see them, it's almost like they take your breath away! How could anyone ever look away from a very pretty kitty?

As fancy as they may look, though, even the prettiest kitties are just normal cats. Just look at this rare, stunning Ragdoll-Maine Coon mix. There's nothing more normal for a cat than playing with a paper bag, and that's one of her favorite activities:

@kizzycatography

Kizzy the Ragdoll-Maine Coon is everything I'd want in a cat if I were going to get one. She's pretty, she's funny, and she looks very soft! She might seem hard to please, but she's actually not. She's a simple girl: give her a good enough bag and she's entertained for hours!

This bag is a good one, you can just tell. It's got handles, and it looks like it's made of thicker paper than your standard paper bag. It'll last her a while, as long as Mom lets her keep it! Plus, the blue writing on the bag really makes her pretty eyes pop.

Related: Maine Coon-Bengal Mix Cat Chirping at Birds Is Mesmerizing to Watch

Kizzy is the only cat in her house, which means she gets all of her mom's attention. That's exactly how she likes it! She has everything she could ever want, too, including a closet full of the cutest outfits:

When she's not playing with her favorite fancy paper bag, you can catch this rare Ragdoll-Maine Coon snuggling and making biscuits. Just how life should be!

Why Do Cats Love Bags?

If you've ever brought a paper bag (or a cardboard box) home and you have a cat, you know that it's basically a free-for-all. There are few things in life a cat loves more than a good bag, even if there are toys inside!

Cat playing in a bag.

Cats love paper bags so much because they:

  • Crinkle when they swat at or step on them.
  • Provide a nice place to hide.
  • Have a nice, smooth texture they like to explore.

It's completely fine to let your cat have some fun with a paper bag, as long as you're supervising them the whole time. Just make sure they don't eat any of it or get caught in the handles!

Home organization has evolved far beyond simple bins and containers. Today, people are looking for storage solutions that not only reduce clutter but also add personality and charm to their living spaces. The rise of expressive home décor reflects a broader shift toward interiors that feel more personal, playful and emotionally engaging. Instead of hiding storage away, many homeowners now embrace items that double as décor. Turning everyday organization into part of the overall design aesthetic.

This trend is especially strong in smaller living spaces, where multifunctional items are essential. Whether it’s keeping desks tidy, organizing entryway essentials or managing everyday clutter in shared spaces. Practical storage has become a key part of maintaining a clean and visually appealing home. At the same time, there’s growing interest in designs that spark joy and creativity—especially those that appeal to both adults and children, making organization feel less like a chore and more like an enjoyable part of daily life.

This Cat Was Cruelly Burned by a Horrible Human—but Now She Looks Like a Fantasy Creature

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 7:55am

Some stories stop you for a second because you don’t quite know what you’re about to see… and then they stay with you for a completely different reason.

This is one of those. It starts with a quiet clip and a single line of context, and by the end, it turns into something unexpectedly beautiful.

@sweetmaybe

#коша_дракоша

♬ оригінальний звук - Classical Music

You can view more of this adorable kitty on her Instagram account here.

The video shows a small Black Cat sitting calmly, her appearance shaped by injuries from a previous home. The caption reads, “My survivor, burned by [her] previous owner,” followed by a simple request: “My cat is often called ugly. Please leave a comment if you think she is the most beautiful.”

Related: Rescue Cat Only Has One Ear and the Explanations Keep Getting Better

And people absolutely did.

Viewers filled the comments with love, support, and a whole lot of admiration:

• “She’s beautiful. I don’t understand people nowadays. Every animal that is made by God is beautifully and wonderfully made.”
• “The MOST beautiful brave soul.”
• “She’s so cute! I want to give her a hug.”
• “She’s the prettiest, most adorable kitty in the universe.”
• “Dear kitty, you’re beautiful, and you deserve all the love in the world.”
• “She’s unique, like a beautiful fantasy creature.”

That last one really stuck.

Because once you stop focusing on what she’s been through and just look at her, there’s something striking about her. Not in a typical way, but in a way that feels different and kind of powerful. Like she’s still here, still calm, still trusting enough to sit quietly while someone films her.

And honestly, that’s doing more than enough.

How To Help Abused Animals in Your Area

If stories like this hit a little hard, there are real ways to help animals who need it:

Donate to local animal shelters or rescue organizations to support medical care and rehabilitation.
• Contribute supplies like food, blankets, litter, and cleaning products.
• Volunteer your time helping with care, cleaning, or socializing animals.
• Consider fostering animals who need a temporary safe space.
• Adopt from a shelter, especially pets who may have been overlooked due to past trauma.
• Support organizations that focus on preventing animal cruelty and abuse.

Even small actions can make a real difference for animals who just need a second chance.

And sometimes, that second chance turns into something really special.

Shelter dogs are sometimes treated to a field trip by volunteers or staff members if they've been waiting an extra long time for adoption. Special adventures for these precious pooches include hiking, the beach, or even touring around a chic metropolitan neighborhood.

Duchess the Pit Bull resided at the Best Friends Animal Society shelter in New York and recently enjoyed one of these guided tours of Manhattan, all from a cozy backpack.

In the TikTok fom @madmax_fluffyroad, Duchess sat comfortably in a backpack carried by the caring young man who also served as her tour guide. The pretty Pittie was literally smiling with excitement as they sat on the subway waiting to get to their first destination.

"Nobody wanted to adopt this dog so I gave her the best day ever," the onscreen text shared.

The 9-year-old Pit Bull had been in and out of shelters for quite some time and was still hoping for her forever home, so a special day out was in order.

Duchess made friends everywhere she went — from musicians in the subway station to salespeople at the toy store as she tried on hats and wigs. The canine cutie won everyone over with her sweet personality.

Naturally, they had to stop for a Pup Cup during their NYC escapade before letting Duchess out of the backpack to explore the many scents of the city. After her fun-filled excursion and some end-of-the-day kisses, Duchess went back to her bed at the shelter for some much-needed rest. The joy she felt radiated from her adorable face.

The caption listed Duchess's many favorite things, including giving kisses, being carried, snuggles, food (though she has a picky palate), and romping around. The video was shared in the hopes of a wonderful family opening their home to this fantastic fur baby.
