In a video shared on TikTok, Bubba looks like the most comfy burrito while bundled up in a blanket. According to the video description, he’s “hibernating,” and if you ask us, he’s clearly got the routine down!

Ragdoll Cat Facts

That final comment has a point, whether they meant to or not! Cinnamon Ragdoll cats like Bubba are one of the rarest coats in the breed. Born from recessive gene types, Cinnamon Ragdolls make up just 7% of Ragdoll cats by estimation, much less common than some of the other colorways like Seal or Blue.

One of the larger breeds of cats, Ragdolls are known for their size but also their “floppiness” and affectionate nature. The name “Ragdoll” comes from their propensity for becoming docile and borderline malleable when picked up and carried around, almost like that of a child’s toy.

Known for being tolerant and lovable, Ragdolls are playful but calm, sweet but silly. Many people compare them to dogs because of their personalities and how great they are as a family pet.

Do These Mixes Take After the Cocker Spaniel or Shar-Pei?

Now, I’ve come across more mixed breeds than I could ever tally up, but seeing this unusual Cocker Spaniel-Shar Pei puppy is a treat for me. Often called a Cocker-Pei or Mini Hippo, these dogs are a coveted designer breed. But if you’re wondering, like me, which parent these pups will likely take after, the answer is: both, though it might not be totally evident from this puppy since she’s so young.

As a Cocker-Pei grows, certain distinguishing traits start to develop. Its wrinkles — the whole reason anyone says “mini hippo” — come from the Shar-Pei. The smooth body and long floppy ears are pure Cocker Spaniel. Add the Shar-Pei’s famous stubborn streak and the Cocker’s clingy, people-oriented sweetness, and you get a dog who wants to be near you constantly and will also argue with you about training.

None of it is guaranteed, though. This cross isn’t recognized by any major kennel club, so there’s no breed standard and no reliable formula—littermates can land in very different places. One Mini Hippo breeder argues that the mix keeps the Shar-Pei’s look and loyalty while smoothing out some of the breed’s harder edges — fewer and softer wrinkles that let the skin breathe, a medium-sized ear that’s easier to keep clean than either parent’s, and a lighter, more athletic dog that handles heat and long walks better.

One thing is for certain: she will not fit in your palm for long. Full-grown Cocker-Peis run 18 to 21 inches, weigh 40 to 65 pounds, and live about 10 to 15 years.

Microchipping a pet is essential to ensure their safety. The TikTok from @franflight told Ciao’s story and how he landed at NAWS despite his previous adoption.

“Ciao was adopted as a tiny kitten four years ago,” the on-screen text shared as the shelter staff member cuddled with the pretty kitty. “We barely recognized him when he was brought back to the shelter.”

The feline fur baby wound up lost and far from home, with no one to take care of him. Ciao’s fur was scruffy and in patches near his face, obviously from his time fending for himself.

A local animal hospital rescued Ciao and reached out to NAWS when they discovered the cat’s chip was registered to them. When Ciao was returned to his original shelter, the staff was heartbroken by his poor condition. He was covered in mange, malnourished, and positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), a bloodborne viral infection gradually weakens a cat’s immune system.

Ciao’s Family Never Claimed Him

Pets that are microchipped have a much higher chance of being reunited with their family. Yet for Ciao, his family never showed up.

“We reached out to his adoptive family, but never heard back from them,” the story continued. “Ciao is the only one who knows what happened during those four years. We don’t know how long he was outside for or what he had to do to survive.”

Despite all Ciao has endured, his gentle and loving spirit remains strong. He drank in every ounce of affection the staff member gave him and now longs for a true forever family.

“It’s been a long three months of recovery for Ciao, but throughout it all he has loved us,” the caption noted. “Ciao is so special to all of us, and I hope that this video finds his forever family. Ciao is ready for a fresh start with a loving family who will make sure he is safe and loved for the rest of his life.

I know Maine Coon kittens get big. I have a Maine Coon who weighs around 20 pounds and occasionally looks less like a cat and more like a furry ottoman someone left in the middle of my house. I understand the concept of LARGE CAT.

Kittens depend completely on their mother’s milk when they’re newborns, but the weaning process typically begins when they’re only a few weeks old. Over the following weeks, they gradually transition to eating kitten food while they nurse less often.

That doesn’t necessarily mean every kitten immediately gets the memo.

It could be something as fixable as a scary shadow by the porch light, or something that needs a professional’s attention. Is It a Behavioral Quirk or a Medical Issue?

There are many reasons why your dog might not want to go outside anymore, including medical issues. According to Dr. Hilary Jones, chief veterinary officer of Weather.pet, maker of Pawcast, and co-founder and chief veterinary officer of TeleTails, behavioral quirks will be much easier to spot than any medical problem your dog is facing.

If there are weather or environmental problems outside, it’s easy to see why some dogs might be apprehensive about going outdoors. However, a sudden change in behavior that does not improve over time may need some more detective work from you and perhaps some help from your veterinarian.

7 Reasons Your Dog Is Slamming on the Brakes

Whether it’s medical or behavioral, there are plenty of reasons why your dog is refusing to go outside. The following reasons are some of the potential causes of this shift that you may want to consider.

1. Urinary Obstructions

Dr. Jones warns that if your dog behaves like they want to go outside to go potty, but nothing comes out when you let them out, it’s time to visit the veterinarian. While it might not have to do with their environment, any dog that refuses to use the restroom or can’t may be experiencing urinary issues like urinary crystals, stones or infections. These can then lead to urinary obstructions, which are very serious. If your dog has gone over 12 hours without urinating, it’s important to see a vet right away.

2. Fear or Anxiety

Sometimes the trigger is something you’d never notice yourself. A trash can left in a new spot, a flag flapping in the wind or a neighbor’s wind chime can be enough to convince your dog that the yard isn’t safe anymore. Dogs rely heavily on their senses to read a space, so anything that shifts how it looks, sounds or smells can set off alarm bells.

This is especially common at night, when darkness hides familiar landmarks and makes ordinary shadows look unfamiliar or threatening. Even a route your dog has walked a hundred times can suddenly feel unsafe if one small detail is out of place. Once a dog associates that spot with fear, they may plant their feet, back away or refuse to move past it altogether, even after the object or noise is long gone.

If your dog is in a new place, Dr. Rachel Cocchiaro, a vet and partner at Bahama Veterinary Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, warns that your dog may not feel comfortable going outside. 

3. Previous Bad Experience

Dogs have a knack for remembering locations where they may have had a bad experience before. If you’ve ever walked your dog and had a bad experience, such as running into an unleashed dog or your dog slipping or falling while walking, there’s a high chance that your dog will actively avoid putting themselves in that same situation. Dogs with this avoidant behavior will typically pull or tug at you to avoid certain spots, or will avoid following their usual walking routine altogether.

4. Eye Vision Changes

Getting older is hard on everyone, especially for our pups. If you find that your dog is heading outdoors perfectly in the daylight but is refusing to do the same at night, it might be worth having their eyesight checked out. Dr. Jones points out that night vision is one of the first features to decline in aging dogs. If you’ve noticed recent changes in their vision, it’s worth heading to your vet to get an official examination.

5. Weather Conditions

It’s no surprise that dogs don’t like inclement weather. Just like humans, dogs don’t like being exposed to harsh elements. If it’s raining, snowing, or extremely windy, there’s a high chance that your dog will refuse to step outside, even if they really need to. Even if they haven’t noticed it’s cold, the minute your pup feels the first drops of rain, there’s a good probability they will try to head back by any means. At this point, you may need to motivate them with some extra treats just to get them outside.

6. Sensory Issues

Dogs can feel overwhelmed too, and this can affect their motivation to go outdoors. An excess of sensory factors—like too many barking dogs around, extreme wind pushing new smells everywhere or being in a new location altogether—may overstimulate your dog. Even the most gleeful pup can get overwhelmed and might need some help to decompress before heading outside once more.

7. Joint Pain

If your dog was the first out the door and now seems unwilling to follow you or seems slower, it might be due to joint issues. Joint diseases like arthritis or back pain can make it extremely difficult for your pup to go through the same movements as before. If you notice your dog refuses to lift their leg or position themselves to poop, Dr. Jones recommends visiting your vet. Not only can a vet give you a better picture of what kind of joint pain they’re facing, but they can help you find the right treatments to help improve mobility.

How to Coax a Stubborn Dog Outside in Bad Weather

Convincing your stubborn furry friend to go outside isn’t always an easy task. If the weather is bad, try to walk them to a sheltered area first. Having a few treats on hand to entice them can also help motivate them to follow you outside, despite whatever the weather is doing. If your dog is sensitive, having rain gear can help give them an extra layer of protection against the elements. Dr. Cocchiaro also suggests providing them with a place indoors or under shelter with a patch of real grass or sod on a plastic tray, which may help them potty without stepping outdoors.

Whether it’s weather or simply a fear, heading outdoors with your dog allows them to feel safe and accompanied alongside you. During nighttime walks, providing them with extra light like flashlights or an illuminated leash can help avoid any fear they may have of the dark.

Gorillas have been my favorite animal since I was in 3rd grade and learned about Diane Fossey. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since! They’re just so cool, and the older I get, the cooler they become, too. They’re just such underrated animals!

TikTok user @.dizmama saw this girl squad at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. I love this so much! As soon as he got in there, he seemed to try to assert some dominance… Only for those girls to immediately put him in his place.

This woman wasn’t the only one who’s seen those gorillas recently! In a comment on the video, someone said, “They were separated because he was newly added to the zoo.” The new gorilla is a 33-year-old Silverback named Matumaini, and he comes from Sedgwick Zoo in Kansas!

This is really just like “new student jitters.” He’s trying to figure out his place in the troop (that’s what a group of gorillas is called!), and the girls aren’t about to betray each other to welcome him! It literally sounds like one of the girls screams, “GET OUT!” at him. Not a warm welcome by any means, but hopefully, he’ll find his place in time. Maybe there will even be a baby gorilla!

How Do Gorillas Accept New Members?

Unfortunately for Matumaini, being the new guy is always going to come with its challenges. He smells weird. He looks weird. They don’t know who he is. It will be a while before they decide if they can trust him, and he just has to wait it out!

Gorillas can and often do take in new members to their troops, but it can be tough, especially for males. Typically, integration is slow and may even take a few attempts in the wild. The troop has to agree, and even when they do, the new gorilla starts at the bottom of the ladder. Zoos have a few tricks to help the process along:

• Making sure the whole troop is well-fed and a little tired when they meet the new addition.
• Starting them off in close, but still separate, enclosures so they can get used to seeing each other.
• Only introducing new members into troops that are known for being relatively peaceful.

Once a gorilla is in an enclosure, there’s really nothing zookeepers can do, short of tranquilizing members of the troop if the fighting goes too far. Luckily for Matumaini, it shouldn’t last forever!

I am already extremely vulnerable to Maine Coon kittens, so showing me one with 25 toes feels like cheating. This tiny grey and white Maine Coon kitten named Nyx is basically a pile of fluff with ears, a tail and WAY more pink toe beans than one little cat should be allowed to have.

The polydactyl Maine Coon is shown lounging on her back while someone gently holds up one of her giant fluffy paws, and I don’t even know where the paw ends and the toes begin. There are beans everywhere. Little pink beans. Fluffy beans. Bonus beans. Nyx has enough toes for at least two regular kittens and possibly a small emergency backup kitten.

Polydactyly simply means a cat was born with extra toes. The trait can show up in Maine Coons as well as other cats, and some polydactyl paws can almost look like little mittens because of those bonus digits.

Nyx, however, appears to have gone with the deluxe package.

And because she’s a Maine Coon kitten, those feet are only going to look more ridiculous as the rest of her catches up with them.

I have a Maine Coon myself, and Meatball already has paws that look like they belong to something that should be wandering around the woods stealing picnic baskets. He does not have 25 toes, which suddenly feels like a major oversight.

Nyx is still so tiny that right now she’s mostly floof and feet.

Her little pink pads are sticking out everywhere while she lies there looking completely unbothered by the fact that TikTok is losing its mind over her toes.

As it should.

The Fuzzy Wig Stole the Show

As a former model and a certified therapy cat, she knows her way around people. Watching her shopping video, she looks remarkably calm even as people approach her and she tries different looks.

She sits there as though dressing up for Halloween is another normal part of her day. Then the fuzzy wig goes on. And that got the biggest reaction from her followers.

One said, “OMG the fuzzy wig!!!!,” while another admitted to still being a “Fish Hat Fan.” Some viewers said she looked like one of the founding fathers, while others compared her to a “posh British magistrate.” The wig, which she tried on the way home, gives her an unexpectedly distinguished look. Calm Cats Make Great Adventure Companions

Try to put a costume on a cat and see how it goes—cooperation is not guaranteed. Cats can tolerate something for three seconds before they decide the costume and the camera are unacceptable.

Summer is different. As a retired show cat and now a therapy cat, she has a calm temperament, giving her parents more options. They can introduce her to new experiences and watch her body language.

Costumes are cute, and the photos are amazing, but sometimes it is not worth stressing a cat out. Thankfully, Summer seems to be comfortable enough to participate.

The Second Halloween Contender

The fuzzy wig was only part of the shopping trip. Back home, her mom couldn’t help but reveal the second costume.

This kitty’s new mom, Emily, showed off his stunning feature as he stretched his paw out towards her. That pattern really is so striking.

It seems like he’s a really sweet boy so far, too, so Emily really hit the rescue cat jackpot.

This update comes after his mom introduced him to the world when she adopted him just days ago. Even then, people in the comments could not stop talking about his paw, so of course, she had to share another look.

He’s her third cat, so it seems like Matisse will have plenty of playmates (as long as everyone is amenable to their new roommate, of course. Sometimes these things taken time!).

What Causes a Cat to Have One ‘Tortie’ Paw?

If your cat is a blend of orange and tortoise pattern like Matisse (even though he’s mostly orange), there is actually a cute name for this combo: Torbie!

Cats.com explains that Torbies are cats with both a Tabby and a Tortoiseshell pattern at the same time, and they’re one of the rarest coat patterns in domestic cats, which makes them really special.

However, most Torbies are female, which means that Matisse is extra special. Male Torbie cats (and Tortoiseshell patterned cats in general) are female, and a male can only be a Torbie if they also happen to have Klinefelter’s Syndrome. This means that male Torbies have three chromosomes, XXY, which also makes them infertile.

Of course, with patterns like these, all Torbies are going to look very unique, so it’s no wonder that Matisse is already collecting quite a fan club. With that adorable paw and face, he most certainly deserves it.

The Fall Flea Myth: Why Autumn is Actually Peak Season

While you may think that the cooling weather means that fleas and ticks will start to decrease, this actually isn’t the case at all. In fact, autumn is an especially great time for fleas and ticks, so you need to stay diligent.

“Fall can actually be a particularly active time for fleas because temperatures become more moderate and humidity can remain relatively high,” Dr. Ross explains. “After a hot summer, the cooler weather can create ideal conditions for fleas to thrive outdoors, while our warm homes provide another place for them to survive. That’s why pet owners may suddenly notice more itching or fleas as the seasons change.”

Exactly How Cold Does It Need to Be to Kill Ticks?

Dr. Ross says that there isn’t really an exact temperature when all of the ticks and fleas will completely be gone for the season, and there are several reasons for this.

“Many ticks can remain active when temperatures are in the 40s, and some can survive much colder conditions by sheltering under leaves, soil or snow,” Dr. Ross states. “In fact, adult ticks may still be looking for a host whenever winter temperatures rise above freezing. We have also been having more ‘warm’ spells during our winters, which allow ticks to survive.”

The Best Ways to Protect Your Dog From Fall Parasites

When it comes to protecting your dog from fall parasites, prevention is absolutely key. “My biggest recommendation for pet owners is to keep flea and tick prevention year-round, rather than assuming the risk ends when summer does,” Dr. Ross says. “I also recommend checking your dog after walks, particularly around the ears, neck, between the toes and under the legs, and keeping your yard free of excessive leaf piles and brush where parasites can thrive.”

The happy video begins with Hopper being let out of his kennel. He walks up to every person, stopping for cuddles as the shelter staff surrounds him. These were the people who had cared for him during the long wait, and they wanted to be there when he finally learned that the waiting was over.

A 2,200-Mile Road Trip to Hopper’s Forever Home

Hopper’s new family drove 2,221 miles in three days to bring him home to Newport Beach, Calif. They stopped along the way, letting him see pieces of the world he had long missed.

For a dog who spent more than a year waiting inside a shelter, the contrast is almost difficult to process. He now lives with a family near the beach.

His video moved thousands of people. One said, “My eyes are leaking,” while another added, “Happy tears.” Many of them congratulated him on his new life, but one comment in particular stood out: “Way to go, Hopper. You just won the dog lottery.”

Life After the Shelter: Hopper’s New Beach Home

Five hundred days is more than a number. That’s 500 mornings waking up in a kennel. It’s a situation that can slowly break dogs who arrived with full hearts.

Before coming to FurKids, Hopper spent six months at a county shelter. The FurKids staff noticed everything about him, including the way he took every treat slowly, like he already knew good things were temporary. The staff wrote about him and shared his story with anyone who would listen.

In the TikTok from @foursleepingdogs, the Aussie Shepherd stood over her litter as she stared from her kennel at the Lancaster Animal Care Center. The fur baby family is now hoping for a fresh start.

Even with a half dozen puppies to tend to, this selfless mama pooch opened her heart to a stray puppy in need.

Female dogs have very strong maternal instincts, especially right after giving birth. Their hormone changes and nurturing intuition prompt them to provide for all their pups’ needs.

Maternal behaviors include:

• Nursing puppies regularly.
• Keeping puppies warm and close to them.
• Cleaning and grooming the litter.
• Protecting puppies from possible threats.
• Staying near the litter for long periods of time.
• Helping puppies begin to learn social behavior.

Since I basically live in a small zoo, I frequent pet stores. I also have my Chewy autoships on, but sometimes, it’s just not enough! Going to pet stores always poses a serious risk for me, though: I almost leave with a cat every single time.

Carly Copeland is so kind for adopting this precious cat! His name is Dumbo, and according to his listing on the website, he was actually a Maine Coon mix! I’m amazed that it took him so long to be adopted: mixes like that tend to go quick. However, for whatever reason, Dumbo was there for months.

She had seen him there before, and for two months after, too. She checked on him every time she went to the store, and he was always there and always sad. To see a Maine Coon in such a state is especially concerning: that’s one of the liveliest breeds out there!

Should You Adopt Cats From Pet Stores?

Dumbo was at Petco for a while before he was adopted, and most likely, he was in a shelter before that. He’s had a rough go of life so far, but now, he gets to start over in a loving forever home!

The cats you see in those little kennels inside most big chain pet stores, like Petco and PetSmart, are cats for rescue. They partner with local shelters to place cats in their stores, not breeders who are trying to turn a profit. If you’re against purchasing a cat from a breeder, adopting a cat from a pet store is perfectly fine.

If you’re unsure whether the cats at a pet store are rescues or not, or you’d like to look into them more, you can:

• Ask an employee.
• Find out what shelter they partner with and look them up.
• Look online for reviews of people who have adopted cats from there.

Cats from Petco and PetSmart are always rescues, but smaller pet stores or other chains may not follow that rule. Always verify first if that’s important to you. I’m so glad they helped Dumbo find a forever home!

I have a Maine Coon, so I already know these cats can reach a level of floof where you’re no longer entirely sure you’re looking at an animal. Sometimes Meatball is a cat. Sometimes he’s a furry ottoman. It really depends on the angle.

And this is coming from someone who had her huge twenty pound INDOOR Maine Coon cat sneak out the backdoor this morning so she had to go outside in her pajamas to grab him.

I think people sometimes look at a giant fluffy Maine Coon and assume their main hobby is lying around being enormous.

And to be fair, they ARE very good at that.

But plenty of cats can enjoy safe outdoor adventures when they’re comfortable with a properly fitted harness and leash. Harness training usually works best when cats get time to become comfortable with everything gradually rather than suddenly finding themselves outside wearing a bunch of strange equipment.

Then collapse on the floor and become home decor.

All puppies are cute, but it’s extra exciting when you see a rare dog with not only a unique coat color but also striking eyes and even a different colored nose.

Well, in a new viral dog video, this little red Toy Poodle is the complete package, being such an atypical color as well as having hazel eyes and a striking pink nose.

Viewers can’t get enough of this little guy’s unique and adorable look.

Most of the comments on the video were people wanting to know where they could get one of these rare red Toy Poodles.

Luckily, this handsome pup was featured on a video for a breeder called Puppies of Montreal.

This puppy is most likely no longer available, but it looks like they have other red Toy Poodles as well as Shih-Poos, Cocker Spaniels, and red Teacup Poodles, like the tiny little guy in the video below.

So why is this red Toy Poodle considered unique?

First of all, red Toy Poodles are considered to be rare because they need to have the recessive red gene from both parents, which produces red or yellow pigment (instead of the typical Poodle colors of black or brown), and then they also need the “Rufus” gene, which modifies how red the coat will turn out.

The “Rufus” gene can determine if the Poodle has a red coat or a lighter apricot coat.

The red color for Poodles wasn’t officially recognized by the AKC until 1980, as this was a newer Poodle coat color.

It should be noted that the red Poodle coat can fade with age and may end up more of an apricot shade when the dog is in their adult years.

As we see in this video, the cute red Toy Poodle puppy has an extremely vibrant red coat.

Even if it fades over the years, he will still be adorable.

It’s not easy being a baby. You’re learning everything for the first time, and even baby animals who live on farms have a whole lot to learn, and the other members of the herd are the ones teaching them. Luckily, even if it’s a little scary, they all take care of each other.

Recently, one baby cow was considered “the baby of the farm.” She was the youngest, smallest one, and she was getting all of the attention! Well, at least, until this kitten came along… But now, the two of them are the best of friends:

I genuinely don’t know how much more cuteness I’m supposed to handle around here. 😭🥹 This tiny little kitten was running around Roo’s hooves without a care in the world, and of course Roo had to investigate. 🤭 A few little sniffs later and apparently the inspection was complete… because Roo decided the baby needed a lick too. 😭😂 There is just something about Roo’s sweet, curious little soul that gets me every single time. She wants to know everyone, sniff everything, lick absolutely anything that will allow it… and apparently tiny kittens are no exception. 🥹🤍 Our baby met an even smaller baby today, and I think my heart officially exploded. 😭🐮🐱

Big B the Cow and Friends are a very sweet herd, all living together on a hobby farm. Big B is actually the mama of the group, and the sweet little brown cow in this video is her baby! Her name is Roo! She loves everything. She just wants to get to know everybody, no matter how small!

Lucky for her, this kitten was totally on board. She’s just a farm cat, so they’ll end up seeing a lot of each other throughout their lives, and they’ll love each other forever. Roo wasted no time giving the baby a kiss, and if she could have reached her, the kitten would have given one back!

Their human mom is enabling their friendship as much as she can. She wants them to be safe about it, so she brings them together where they can see! It’s adorable, and being held up high makes it much easier to give the kitten a kiss:

I swear Roo has never met a single living thing she didn’t think needed a few kisses. 🥹😂🤍 She may be tiny herself, but the second she realized there was an even tinier baby on the farm, she was absolutely fascinated. The little sniffs, the gentle licks, the curiosity… I cannot handle her. 😭 Roo has such a sweet little soul and watching her experience the world – one unsolicited lick at a time – will never get old. 🥹💕🐮🐱

She thinks everyone needs a big sister, and she’s right. This kitten will grow up knowing nothing but love. It’s really the best way for any baby to grow up!

Keeping Kittens Safe On a Farm

Luckily for Roo and her kitten, their mom takes excellent care to make sure the two of them can be best friends safely. Even though Roo would never mean to hurt her, she’s just so much bigger! Something could go wrong in an instant.

It’s not uncommon at all for farms to have cats, either by accident or on purpose. With enough land, cats will just wander onto the farm, and shelters will sometimes place feral (spayed/neutered) “barn cats” with farms in need! When you do have one, there are some safety precautions to take:

• Try to only allow kittens onto the farm under supervision.
• Keep them away from the animals’ hooves.
• Make space that’s only for the cats.

As they get older, the other animals will learn how to avoid potentially hurting them, and the cats will be big enough to move around on their own. This kitten won’t be a baby forever!
