Tuxedo Cat Proudly Shows Off His Bra Insert Collection, and He's Absolutely Obsessed
I’ve heard of cats stealing socks.
I’ve heard of cats hiding hair ties, toy mice and the occasional slice of pizza.
But bra inserts? That’s a new one.
Moonie, an adorable tuxedo cat, has apparently decided that removable bra inserts are the greatest treasure known to feline kind. His collection has gotten so impressive that he now proudly parades them around the house while announcing his latest find to anyone within earshot.
@biancacatalan7Lol anyone elses cat?
♬ original sound – biancacatalanThe hilarious video was shared by TikTok user @biancacatalan7.
It begins with Moonie confidently marching into the room carrying not one, not two, but three bra inserts in his mouth while loudly singing the song of his people. As if that weren’t enough, there’s already another one waiting for him on the floor.
Related: Cats Just Stole a Bra in Broad Daylight and the Internet is Howling
At this point, I’m less concerned about why Moonie keeps stealing them and more concerned about how many bras are currently missing pieces.
The comments quickly turned into a support group for people whose cats have equally bizarre hobbies.
One person wrote, “Our female cat loves Legos and bouncy balls. She carries Legos around and puts them in our shoes or leaves them for my husband to step on. She takes her bouncy ball to the top of the stairs, bounces it down and chases it. She does this at 2 a.m.”
Honestly, that’s some impressive commitment to both fitness and chaos.
Another commenter shared, “My cat used to steal my socks, dirty or clean. She’d throw them in the water bowl whenever I couldn’t find them.”
Meatball has a similar obsession with water, except he prefers dropping every toy he owns into his water dish like he’s marinating them for later.
@meatballthemainecAnd then without fail he gives his mousies a bath. #mainecoonkitten #catsoftiktok #mainecoonsoftiktok
♬ Monkeyshine-JP – Lt FitzGibbons MenSomeone else admitted, “My kitten is obsessed with shredding toilet paper, so it could be worse.”
True.
At least Moonie is choosing something that’s already detached from the bra.
One of my favorite stories came from someone who said, “Mine steals the neoprene koozies from the cabinet every single night. She opens all the cabinet doors like a poltergeist, picks out a few koozies and walks around yelling from 11 p.m. until midnight. Every. Single. Day.”
I would pay money to watch that security camera footage.
Other commenters had equally strange little thieves.
“Mine steals the dish sponge every single day.”
“Mine steals ALL my hair ties and hides them.”
Apparently every cat wakes up one morning, chooses an object and thinks, “Yes. This belongs to me now.”
Moonie just happened to pick bra inserts.
Why Do Cats Steal Random Objects? @thedodoThis cat stole stuff from the neighbors to gift to her mom 🤣 @Songs Of My Felines #cats #catsoftiktok #catvideos
♬ original sound – The DodoCats often carry around small objects because their hunting instincts tell them they’ve caught something valuable. Some cats enjoy the texture of certain materials, while others simply discover that picking up a favorite item gets a big reaction from the humans in the house.
Objects like socks, hair ties, sponges and soft fabric items are especially popular because they’re lightweight and easy to carry.
For many cats, it’s also a game.
They’ve learned that walking into the room proudly carrying their latest “prize” almost always earns attention, laughter or someone chasing after them.
Mission accomplished.

One of the ‘Rarest Chickens in the World’ Looks Like a Dragon in Disguise
Chickens scare me a little bit. They’re scary: they always look so serious, and when they want to, they can run really fast. Have you ever had a chicken running at you? I have, and it was terrifying. Even the most basic of chickens is a little scary.
So, imagine my fear when a woman pulled out this rare chicken. He’s one of the rarest breeds in the world, the Ayam Cemani, but I don’t even think that’s a chicken. That’s a dragon in disguise:
@hens_and_honeybees_This is the Lamborghini chicken, also known as an Ayam Cemani. A high quality one is highly sought after, and can even go for over a thousand dollars. Backyard breeders have unfortunately brought the quality of them down by trying to breed their own to make a quick buck. This means the Ayam Cemanis you are seeing listed on Facebook groups have red pigmentation, feather leakage, and floppy combs. I leave the breeding to the experts at Feather Lover Farms which is where we get ours from! Use the code HH20 on their website to get 20% off! #AyamCemani #farm #homestead #pnw #chickens
♬ grim – SUPERNOVA BOYHens and Honeybees is home to lots of chickens, and lots of honeybees. An interesting combination, but I love it. This boy’s name is Apollo, a Lamborghini/Ayam Cemani rooster. According to his mom, his dark and scary exterior shouldn’t fool you: he’s so sweet!
In certain lighting, he almost seems to glow blue. I can’t deny that he’s super cool! He’s not the only Ayam Cemani on the farm, and as he spends more time there, he’ll hopefully father quite a few clutches of eggs!
Related: Cockatoos Playing ‘Tug of War’ Over Their Favorite Blanket Are Just Like Puppies
As a matter of fact, there are already babies in the mix. Whereas Apollo is full-grown and looking like a crazy storm cloud, the babies are more like tiny puffs of smoke:
@hens_and_honeybees_You guys have been going crazy about this breed, so I managed to find a discount code so that you all could have one too! #homestead #farm #ayamcemani #chickens #pnw
♬ YOU CAN ASK THE FLOWERSYOU CAN ASK THE FLOWERS – HORROR MIX – Nia BlakeDo you see that tiny thing?! And how it grows into a huge dragon… I mean, chicken?! I’m genuinely amazed. I don’t think I’d ever be able to actually have chickens, but if I did, I would want it to be one of these!
More About the Ayam CemaniThis breed, also known as the “Lamborghini” chicken, is rare. Not only that, though: even if you find one, you need to be careful. Good bloodlines matter for breeds like these, and if you manage to find one for super cheap, it’s likely too good to be true.
The Ayam Cemani chicken is a rare Indonesian breed. They have a genetic mutation that makes literally everything on them black, including their:
- Feathers
- Beak
- Skin
- Organs
- Meat
Even though this is an entirely black chicken, they actually lay standard cream-colored eggs. Known as the “Lamborghini” of chickens because of their sleek look and high price tag, these birds are kind, protective, and perfect pets. Maybe they’re secretly dragons. We’ll never know…

Wobbly Rescue Cat's Wild Fur Makes Him Look Like a Little Debbie Zebra Cake
The first thing I noticed about Otto wasn’t the way he moves.
It was his fur.
This little rescue cat has the most incredible black, silver and white stripes I’ve ever seen. He honestly looks like someone crossed a zebra with a Little Debbie Zebra Cake, and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. Between his gorgeous emerald green eyes and his beautifully marbled coat, he’s the kind of cat who makes you stop scrolling immediately.
Then you learn his story……and somehow he becomes even more amazing.
@ottowobblesa little reminder to you all from Otto 🤍 #wobblycat #catlover #iloveyou #cutecat #sillycat
♬ sonido original – Cris_Pz7 – Cris_Pz7The heartwarming video was shared by TikTok user @ottowobbles with the simple caption, “Just a reminder from Wobbles, you’re doing great.”
In the clip, Otto sits quietly looking into the camera with his slightly crossed green eyes, looking equal parts majestic and completely adorable.

His family has shared that Otto was born with fused vertebrae, which means he can’t use his back legs to walk. Instead, he pulls himself forward with his front legs as he explores the world.
Despite that, he’s every bit as playful and mischievous as any other cat.
He’s a silver Bengal who plays, eats normally, uses his litter box without any trouble and fills his home with what his family lovingly describes as “the same love and chaos as any other cat.”
One line from their post especially stuck with me.
“Watching him move reminds us that strength doesn’t always look the way we expect. Sometimes it looks like a little silver cat refusing to give up.”
If that doesn’t melt your heart, I don’t know what will.
The comments quickly filled with people falling in love with Otto.
“This has got to be the most beautiful coloration I’ve ever seen on a cat.”
I have to agree.
Someone else hilariously said, “Snack cake cat.”
Another person asked:
“Who is this gorgeous mythical beast?!”
Honestly, he does look like he wandered out of a fantasy novel.
Others couldn’t stop talking about his incredible markings.
“Omg what a beautiful cat. Look at those colors.”
“Stunning fur pattern, gorgeous!”
And one longtime fan wrote:
“Otto, you make my day whenever I see you!”
Perhaps my favorite comment came from someone discovering him for the very first time.
“This is my first time seeing him and he is gorgeous.”
Welcome to the Otto fan club.
What Is Fused Vertebrae in Cats? @ottowobblesthe cat i saved ended up saving me 🤍 #wobblycat #catlover #iloveyou #cutecat #sillycat
♬ original sound – sleepyrigoFused vertebrae occur when two or more bones of the spine are joined together instead of developing separately. Some cats are born with this condition, while others may develop spinal fusion after an injury or illness.
Depending on where the vertebrae are fused and how severe the condition is, affected cats may have difficulty walking, limited mobility or weakness in their back legs. Many, like Otto, adapt remarkably well and learn to move using their front legs instead.
With supportive veterinary care, a safe home environment and lots of love, many cats with spinal conditions can still enjoy happy, playful and fulfilling lives.
Watching Otto scoot confidently through the world is proof that a disability doesn’t define a cat’s spirit.
Sometimes it just makes everyone admire them a little bit more.

Rare Maine Coon-Persian Cat Mix Looks Like a Rug Made of Silk
When you have a Maine Coon mix, you can usually count on two things: the cat is going to be huge, and typically, they’re going to be very fluffy. When you combine that with their angular facial features and whatever cat they’re mixed with, it’s hard to get better than them!
Just look at this Maine Coon-Persian cat mix! She was spread out on the floor, and when she’s lying on her back like this, she looks just like a silk rug:

The girls spend a lot of their time lying around, absorbing the sunshine and waiting for belly rubs. That’s exactly what Mia was doing! She loves to lie on her side like this: she can get some sunshine on one side, and the other side on the floor to keep her cool.

The two of them love going “rug-mode” on the floor, but they also spend a lot of time cuddling together. Their mom got them one of those cat beds that sticks to the ceiling, and I think it’s safe to say that they love it:

♬ original sound – mia&sophiaThese girls are the best of friends. They’ve always been like that, according to their mom: maybe that’s why she had to take them both. You just can’t separate two bonded cats!
Should You Adopt Two Kittens?Mia and Sophia have been together since they were born, and they’ve never spent a day apart. The two of them are very happy to be together!
You don’t technically need to adopt two kittens at the same time, though a lot of people do recommend it if you have the funds and the time. Having two kittens instead of one will:
- Encourage them to socialize.
- Keep separation anxiety at bay.
- Give them someone else to play with.
- Make training easier.
Cats are technically solitary animals, but in a lot of cases, housecats do best in pairs or even more. Having a friend will make it easier on them and you as they transition into their forever homes. Luckily, Mia and Sophia had each other, and they always will!

20-Pound Orange Cat Standing on 2 Paws 'Kinda Looks Like a Bowling Pin'
My Pug mix is a bit, shall we say, rotund. His buxom body shape has been compared to a barrel, a potato with legs, and a loaf of bread. He seems to know these comments are made with affection and just a testament to his adorability.
Goober is a 20-pound orange cat who also seems to have a stout stature, especially when he stands on his hind legs.

♬ original sound – Bossy_661In the TikTok from @solandlunathecats22, Goober stood tall on his two back paws and proudly showed off his belly. His head and neck looked like your typical, everyday feline form, yet Goober’s shape got noticeably wider below his shoulders.
Goober appeared perfectly comfortable in his upright position and wore his weighty girth well. It was almost like his hefty bottom half helped his balance and gave him a confident stance.
Followers likened the pretty kitty to everything from a video game creature to an iconic comic strip cat:
- “Proportions of a Gen 1 Pokémon,” one remarked.
- “Kinda looks like a bowling pin,” another pointed out.
- “That is an ABSOLUTE UNIT!!” a follower noted.
- “Garfield in real life,” someone posted.
- “Like a fluffy hobbit,” a fan commented.
Standing on two legs is not a natural position for cats, yet many like to take that posture. There are several reasons a feline may stand on their hind legs, including:
- Stretching out for physical comfort.
- Scoping out potential threats to get a better view or make themselves look more intimidating.
- Curiously gathering more information.
- Reaching up for a treat.
- Getting your attention by making themselves more noticeable.
- Asking for affection or pets.
- Showing excitement or a playful side.

Standing on back legs isn’t usually an indication of a health issue in your cat. Smaller felines, like Munchkin cats, often boost themselves up in this way due to their short legs. Sitting on their hind legs gives them better balance.
Like Goober, your cat is probably just showing their whimsical personality and maybe asking for some extra snuggles.

7 Signs Your Cat Thinks the World of You, According to an Expert
There’s a reason people love cats so much. They can have a connection with you like you’ve never experienced before. And that bond is not something new. It’s a relationship people have cherished for thousands of years. Over time, these furry companions have brought joy into people’s lives and vice versa. So it’s no surprise that they think their pet parents are their whole world.
Though, no matter how much time you spend around your furbaby, sometimes it can be hard to tell how your cat shows their love and appreciation for you. After all, they speak a totally different language than people do and often communicate with body language and behaviors.
Luckily, that’s where experts can help, like Dr. Julie Hunt, DVM, a veterinarian contributor for Embrace Pet Insurance. She says it’s not just dogs that put their human on a pedestal, cats do it too, and it’s not just because of the material things we provide them, but it’s how we roll up our sleeves and care for our cats in ways that help them feel seen and loved.
So, if you’re curious how you can tell if your cat thinks highly of you, like you do of them, she shares all the signs that your cat loves you so it’ll be easier for you to pick up on. That way, the next time you see them doing one of these things, you’ll know it’s not on accident. Instead, it’s them showing you that they consider you to be their whole world.

7 Signs Your Cat Thinks the World of You, According to an Expert A cat giving someone a love bite. When you notice the signs that your cat thinks the world of you, you can do more of the things that earned you that coveted spot in their heart. But since cats can be subtle in their displays of affection, Dr. Hunt is sharing clues you can look for.
1. They slow-blink at youThis goes to show that sometimes eye contact is the sweetest form of affection. Though, it’s easy for people to miss this. However, if you catch your cat slow-blinking at you, Dr. Hunt notes that they’re letting you know, “I recognize and acknowledge you, favorite person!”
In other words, it’s your cat’s way of speaking without making a sound. “It is a friendly, relaxed form of greeting, sometimes considered a no-contact ‘cat kiss,'” Dr. Hunt says.
Want to respond? There’s no need to pucker up. ”If you are important enough to earn a slow blink, be sure to return it,” Dr. Hunt suggests.
2. They rub against your legCats who are especially fond of you will let it be known by claiming you. However, they do so by rubbing against you.
Dr. Hunt explains that cats do this so they deposit pheromones from their scent glands on you when they rub your leg. Pheromones are chemical substances, and kitties use them to communicate to other animals.
“This is how they mark you as ‘known’ and ‘safe,’ claiming you as their own,” Dr. Hunt reveals. “This gesture may also be used as a greeting or a way of welcoming you back home and refreshing their claim on you.”
3. They find ‘gifts’ for youOf all the clues that your dog admires you, this is the one that can confuse pet parents the most. So, if your cat spends time outdoors and refuses to come home without arriving with a small creature in its mouth for you, don’t get mad. Dr. Hunt notes this cat behavior—while gross—is instinctual. Mother cats bring prey items to their kittens to feed them and teach them how to hunt, so to them, that gesture is heartfelt. Indoor cats may also do this, but they may bring you toys instead.
“You should feel very loved indeed by this,” Dr. Hunt says. “If your cat brings you these ‘gifts,’ they love you enough to share their food with you and try to teach you to catch your own food.”
4. They let you pet themSince cats don’t always like to be touched as much as dogs do, when your furry family member lets you pet them, it can feel like the ultimate compliment, especially when you consider that cats can sometimes live solitary lives. However, sometimes, they do form social groups and want their favorite humans to be part of their inner circle.
“Only cats who are very socially close to one another participate in mutual grooming,” Dr. Hunt explains. “If a cat is willing to let you pet them, they are, in cat terms, allowing you to mutually groom them. This means that they are permitting you to be socially very close to them.”
Related: 7 Signs Your Cat Sees You As Their Guardian Angel, According to Vets
5. They climb on youYou may have a state-of-the-art cat tree, and yet you’re your feline’s favorite climbing toy. If that happens to you, you may be wondering, “Why do cats climb on people, anyway?” It turns out, it means that they like being close to you and trust you enough to know they are safe when they are near you.
“Cats are independent creatures by nature, and this has allowed them to survive for tens of thousands of years,” Dr. Hunt points out. “However, they are willing to suspend their aloof nature to be near you and climb on you if they love you enough.”
6. They “love bite” youDoes your cat ever give you a tiny nibble? It might be more than just a cute behavior. Dr. Hunt defines love bites as “shallow nibbles that don’t break the skin.” Typically, she says these gentle nibbles communicate affection and mutual grooming, though sometimes they can simply be your cat’s way of interacting with you. Cats typically reserve this for companions they’re especially close to, making these little nibbles a meaningful sign of trust and affection.
While a love bite might catch you off guard, it can be one of the ways your cat shows they are closely bonded with you. Dr. Hunt notes that these behaviors indicate “that your cat thinks very highly of you.”
7. They expose their bellyA cat showing you their belly is a bigger deal than you might think. In fact, that belly flop isn’t just cute, it can be a major sign your cat feels safe with you.
Dr. Hunt says that since a cat’s belly is a vulnerable part of their body, they expose it only when they feel “very comfortable” around someone, like their cat mom or dad.
“Sometimes this can be done during play, or it may occur during grooming or at rest,” Dr. Hunt shares. “If your cat rolls over and exposes its belly while you are present, this indicates that the cat is very comfortable in your presence and does not feel that you pose any threat.”
What If My Cat Doesn’t Do Any of These Things? If none of the above are behaviors your cat does, Dr. Hunt says that doesn’t mean your cat doesn’t love you. Some cats’ temperaments cause them to give more mellow, shy and overall more independent. In other words, just like people, some felines aren’t as good at showing affection or showing how they feel.
That’s why it’s important to always love your furry sidekick just as they are. When you do that and respect them and their personality, they’ll return it in spades in their own way toward you.

Orange Cat's Epic Pout Over 'Not Being the Baby Anymore' Is Such a Mood
Bringing a newborn baby home is a big change for any family. There are new routines and priorities for everyone in the household to adjust to. One cat, however, isn’t happy about some recent changes to his family.
An Orange Cat named Rex is feeling quite neglected by his family. This kitty isn’t thrilled that his parents brought home a human baby, and he refuses to accept that his new sibling stole his title as the baby of the house. It’s too precious!
@rex2pawsRex is feeling neglected clearly #cats #kitty #catsoftiktok #animals
♬ original sound – Rex2paws🇨🇦Rex is one pouty kitty! This pawless cat sits staunchly with his back to his mom and the newborn baby. In the clip, Rex’s mom tries to talk to him and get his attention, but Rex isn’t having it. He’s too upset about no longer being the baby of the family. This kitty wasn’t ready to share this important title!
People in the comments are taking Rex’s side in the dispute. One person said, “Awwwww, the total abandonment! I’m calling CPS.” Another person commented, “Aww, he’s still a baby though.”
Other people are reassuring the family that Rex will be loving on the new baby in no time. A viewer commented, “Soon he will be lying beside the baby. I had a cat before I had my sons, and the cat adjusted quickly. He used to guard them.”
Hopefully, Rex warms up to his new sibling soon!
How To Help Your Cat Adjust to a New Baby or PetCats dislike change, so adding a new person or pet to the household may be jarring for your feline friend. If your family is preparing to add a new member, whether human or animal, there are a few things you can do to prepare your kitty, so they aren’t surprised and put off by the new addition.
First, you’ll want to prepare them slowly before the arrival by introducing new sounds, scents, and routine changes ahead of time. Build baby furniture or new pet gear weeks in advance so the cat can explore these new items on their own terms. You can also play recordings of babies crying to acclimate them to the noise. If you’re able, bring an item with the new family member’s scent on it so they can sniff it before meeting face-to-face, such as a toy or a blanket. Scent swapping is a great way to introduce your cat to a new person or animal without them meeting directly yet.
Related: Orange Cat’s Gentle Taps for the Newborn Baby Are the Cutest Thing We’ve Ever Seen
When it comes time to bring the new baby or pet home, keep initial meetings calm and go at the cat’s pace. Never force your kitty to approach the baby or pet and reward them with treats and praise when they act relaxed and welcoming toward the new arrival.
Create safe zones for the cat, where they can retreat to if the introduction becomes too overwhelming. It’s important to allow your cat the ability to remove themselves from the situation by securing a space for them to retreat to in order to decompress after the initial meeting. A room sectioned off from other pets would be a good place for your kitty friend to do this.
Remember, these changes can be startling for a cat, and you never know how they’ll react. To keep your kitty happy, make sure you dedicate at least a few minutes to one-on-one time with them, so they don’t feel forgotten or discarded when the new member of the family arrives. We imagine Rex might be overdue for some cuddle time with his momma, based on how hard he was pouting!

Corgi Joins Groundhog in the Pool, and Their Synchronized Swimming Has Us Cracking Up
With summer coming to a close, everyone is swarming to beaches, lakes, and pools for those last moments of sun and swimming. Taking a dip and tanning are top priority in the final weeks before Labor Day, and people are making the most of the warm weather.
The same rule of thumb applies for fur babies — all fur babies, apparently. This groundhog decided to take a plunge into a neighborhood pool and soon had company from Bubba, the family Corgi.
@loocyroit ♬ original sound – loocyroitIn the TikTok from @loocyroit, a groundhog stopped by a local home that happened to have a beautiful in-ground pool. The weather must have been hot that day because the rodent decided to go for a swim, much to the amazement of the homeowner.
“What are you doing in my pool?” the woman asked the groundhog with an incredulous tone, almost expecting him to answer. “And what are you?”
The woman filmed the unbelievable scene for her daughters as the groundhog showed off Olympic-like strokes in the pool. All of a sudden, Bubba swam right alongside the groundhog in perfect synchronization, as if they had practiced a choreographed routine.
Unlikely Pool Pals Had Followers Doing a Double TakeThough the aquatic incident was highly entertaining, the homeowner immediately tried to break up the furry pair in the pool.
“Get out, Bubba, get out!” she shrieked, then repeated the command with a bit of a cry. The floating fur babies swam toward the pool stairs as the woman continued her attempts to shoo the groundhog away. The video ended before revealing if the dynamic duo did another lap.

Followers couldn’t get enough of the pool pals and advocated for their playdate to continue:
- “Mind you, Bubba and the groundhog are having a TIME,” one pointed out.
- “Bubba invited him over,” another noted.
- “I lost it when the dog was swimming side by side with [the groundhog],” a follower posted.
- “Was not expecting the synchronized swim session,” someone commented.
- “I thought you said your mom was cool with me coming over to swim, Bubba!” a fan joked.
Hopefully, Bubba and his new swimming partner can set up another session when they have the house to themselves.

We Asked 3 Vets the Best Flea and Tick Collars for Dogs, and They All Said the Same Thing
Summer is winding down, and it’s time to squeeze in those last-minute adventures before fall arrives. While autumn and winter bring their own share of fun, few things compare to summer with your dog, when quality time outdoors under the sun feels almost limitless. But as summer starts to wind down, it also ushers in one of the most dangerous stretches of the year for pups: flea and tick season.
Many pet parents assume fleas and ticks are strictly a warm-weather problem, but the truth is these pests are active year-round, with populations spiking in late summer. Even as temperatures begin to cool in parts of the country, certain climate and environmental factors make this the prime window for fleas and ticks to target our furry friends.

Thankfully, pet parents have no shortage of prevention options, and flea and tick collars remain one of the most popular. These specially designed collars release a chemical or essential oil over several months to repel pests before they can latch on. But with so many collars crowding the market, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed trying to figure out which one is actually worth trusting with your dog’s health.
To help understand how to shop for the best flea and tick collar, we went straight to the experts. We asked three veterinarians which collar they trust most, and their answers were surprisingly unanimous.
Here’s everything you need to know about flea and tick collars, straight from the vets themselves.
Our Panel of Experts- Dr. Monique Fletcher is the lead veterinary partner of CityVet – Chandler.
- Dr. Ashley Burgos, DVM, is a veterinarian and the co-founder of Futureproof Pet.
- Dr. Andrew Pickerstein is a small animal veterinarian at Spot On Veterinary Hospital & Hotel.
Contrary to belief, the most dangerous time for fleas and ticks is late summer. While some people may assume the middle of summer is the peak, it’s actually the end of the season when fleas and ticks truly reach their highest numbers.
According to Dr. Monique Fletcher, the lead veterinary partner of CityVet-Chandler, late summer provides fleas and ticks with the warm temperatures and humid conditions they need for ideal breeding grounds. By the end of the season, these parasites have also had months to reproduce and increase their populations, making them more prevalent than ever.
It’s also hard to ignore that the end of summer marks a time when most people are outside, hoping to catch their final adventures in the sun. Coupled with the previous factors, it’s no surprise that late summer is a dangerous time for pups when it comes to dealing with fleas and ticks.
The One Flea and Tick Collar Vets Recommend dog wearing flea and tick collarWhile there are plenty of flea and tick preventatives on the market, there’s only one that our three experts actually recommend: the Seresto by Elanco Flea and Tick Collar. It offers the quality that pet parents are looking for when it comes to protection against these parasites.
According to Dr. Fletcher, co-founder of Futureproof Pet Dr. Ashley Burgos, and small animal veterinarian at Spot On Veterinary Hospital & Hotel Dr. Andrew Pickerstein, the Seresto by Elanco Flea and Tick Collar is far above the other collar options.
As Dr. Pickerstein adds, the Seresto by Elanco collar protects against both fleas and multiple tick species through contact, meaning ticks are repelled and killed before they can bite, reducing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission and preventing pests from being brought into your living space.
Seresto Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs, 1 Collar (8-month supply), $39.97 at ChewyChewy
Shop It!Unlike temporary options, Dr. Fletcher says that Seresto provides up to 8 months of flea and tick protection, so it’s a low-maintenance option compared with preventatives that need to be given every month.
Most importantly, Dr. Burgos notes that Seresto checks the box of being a reputable, properly certified product. As she explains, “I recommend choosing a product with EPA registration or FDA approval and actual clinical safety data (not just marketing claims) produced by a reputable pharmaceutical company.”

The ‘Counterfeit Collar’ Epidemic: A Warning for Online ShoppersWhile it might be hard to believe, counterfeit pet products do exist, and they can cause real harm to your furry friends.
As Dr. Fletcher details, it’s important to buy your flea and tick collars directly from your veterinarian or authorized retailers. Brands like Elanco will typically have a list of authorized sellers, making it easy for you to spot where you can get authenticated products.
If a price seems too good to be true, it might be because it’s a fake item. While it might not seem like a big deal, counterfeit products are harmful to your pets in the long term. Dr. Burgos states that counterfeit products can release unknown chemicals that sit against your dog’s skin for weeks or months until you notice something is wrong.
Collars vs. Oral Chews vs. Topicals: What’s Best?Hugo Alejandro Salazar S / Getty Images
Flea and tick collars are just one type of preventative pet parents can turn to for protection for their furry friends. Besides collars, there are oral chews and topicals to choose from. Dr. Burgos and Dr. Fletcher point out there is no universal “best” option, as the right pick will come down to your individual dog.
Dr. Fletcher recommends oral chews for dogs that tend to spend more time outdoors or live in areas with high flea and tick populations. Because of their reliability and consistency, oral chews offer coverage that doesn’t need to be reapplied or replaced at a certain time.
On the other hand, topicals provide an in-between level of coverage that’s great for single-site protection. Dr. Burgos points out that topicals tend to cause less skin irritation than collars, although irritation at the application site can still occur.
The Essential Post-Hike Tick Check Routine (Even With a Collar)When out hiking or exploring, it’s important to do a routine tick check to ensure you aren’t bringing home any critters you don’t want in the house.
After returning home from a hike, Dr. Fletcher recommends checking your dog:
- Around the ears, eyes and face
- Under their collar and around the neck
- Around the legs
- Between the toes and paw pads
- Around the groin
- Around the tail
Even if they have a flea and tick collar, it’s still important to check for any fleas and ticks. Dog parents should also check themselves and their gear for any lingering parasites that may be hiding.
Whether your dog is an avid hiker or simply likes to spend time outdoors, flea and tick prevention is vital for keeping them safe. Flea and tick collars are one way you can help keep your dog healthy, and there’s only one choice our experts agreed on. No matter which type of preventative you choose, it’s important to stay on top of their protection to ensure your dog remains flea- and tick-free year-round.

Nobody Told This Handsome Rescue Doberman He's Not a Husky—and His Howl Proves It
When you think of a Doberman Pinscher, you think of an alert, athletic dog, watching over the people they love.
But not all Dobermans are the same. One, in particular, showed a completely different side of the breed. His parents posted him on Reddit‘s r/DobermanPisncher, asking whether other Dobies do the same thing.

Apparently, nobody told this handsome rescue Doberman that howling is not a Doberman thing.
Do Dobermans Howl?In the Reddit post, the woman asked, “Anyone else’s Dobe Howl?” She then explained, “My guy will occasionally at sirens when they’re close. He’s a rescue and I’ve always suspected he has a little hound in him (he also lovessss sniffing). Just asking because i feel like this isn’t a stereotypical Doberman behavior.”
The comments made one thing clear: this handsome boy is hardly alone. One fan said, “When there are sirens he sometimes does. Nothing like my huskies used to, but a little bit.”
Another fan said the community appreciates his contribution, saying, “Yes every time he hears a siren! My neighbors love it lol I always tell him good job for letting us know!”
And then one parent said his dog has an entire vocal repertoire, saying, “Howl, yawl, cayoo and almost yodel.”

What the Doberman Was Built to DoThe Doberman Pinscher was developed in Germany in the 1890s by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, a tax collector who bred a dog capable of accompanying him on his rounds and deterring trouble.
The result was an alert breed that could show off its presence. A Doberman’s bark communicates a clear message. That was the sound the breed was shaped for.
This dog falls into the guard dog breed group. They are intelligent, observant and protective, traits that make their barking purposeful and situational.
Yet, howling is a different kind of communication altogether. Wolves use it to coordinate the pack over distance. Huskies and scent hounds are famous for their howls.
Turns out, Dobermans can do it as well.
Sirens Can Turn a Quiet Dog into a SingerThe most common trigger for a Doberman to howl is exactly what the Reddit owner described: emergency vehicle sirens.
Dogs may respond to sirens because the sound resembles a long-distance vocalization, so they may simply be responding to the siren as if they are hearing another dog or a similar sound stimulus. So that Doberman isn’t necessarily trying to imitate a Husky. He may simply be joining the conversation.

Siberian Husky Spotted Lurking in the Leaves Is Running Pure Cat Software in a Dog's Body
For a few seconds, all anyone can see is a fluffy tail buried in a wall of green leaves. It looks suspiciously like a cat hiding in a tree, which is exactly what several viewers thought. Then the Siberian husky emerges, and we have an answer to the mystery.
The video, shared on Reddit‘s r/WhoFeedsWhoHere, shows a husky named Noah investigating a tree covered in English ivy. His mom eventually calls out, “Noah, what are you doing? Noah, you are going to fall,” but Noah seems far more interested in whatever has caught his attention inside the tangled leaves.

Cat Software, Dog HardwareSiberian huskies are curious and have a strong instinct to investigate movement and small animals. Add in their vocal expressions, and huskies can sometimes leave you wondering whether you live with a dog or an unusually large cat.
The comments on Reddit confirm it. One joked, “Cat software, dog hardware.” Another said, “That tail was definitely giving cat vibes.”
And then a Husky parent confirmed it, “Husky owner, can confirm. Huskies are just 2-3 cats in a fur coat.”
Husky parents describe these dogs as having a wonderful mind of their own.

Huskies Have an Independent StreakThese former sled dogs are famous for being energetic, mischievous and vocal. Their vocal range is amazing, from howling to barking and whining in between. Yet their personality is more complex than that of the stereotypical happy sled dog.
According to the American Kennel Club, these high-energy dogs are independent-minded. They were bred to work in demanding conditions and make decisions while traveling with a team.
Their independent streak is what produces cat-like moments. They will investigate something because it is interesting. Noah, for example, believes there are critters trapped between the ivy leaves.
Like cats, they can be persistent when they want to reach a particular spot. To top it all, they have a reputation for finding creative ways out of places their parents thought were secure.
Noah spotted something inside the tree and climbed in for a closer look. That is the default instinct of huskies and cats.
Watch Your Husky CloselyA golden retriever, which was bred over centuries to work alongside humans, will do what you ask. Meanwhile, a husky will consider it.
That is not a flaw. That is what the breed was designed to do over generations of working in conditions where independent judgment kept them alive.
This is what makes them interesting to watch. And that is exactly why we love Noah. He climbed a tree searching for something, ignored his mom’s concerns, and came back when he was ready. Not a second before that.
He didn’t find a critter, but he found a fan!

Rescue Pug Crowned 'World's Ugliest Dog,' and Everyone's Saying, 'But She's So Cute!'
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. What about ugliness? Well, that is left up to the judges of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. And, when it comes to dogs, ugly is really not that far off from very, very cute.
Meet Jinny Loo, the 6-year-old Pug who took home the coveted title in her fourth attempt at the prize (last year, she was runner-up.) Those bulging eyes! Those floppy wrinkles! That hanging tongue! What’s not to love? Watch her show off her beauty, ahem ugliness, during her Today show appearance in the video below.
@nbcnewsJinny Lu, a rescue pug, wins the World’s Ugliest Dog contest.
♬ original sound – nbcnews – nbcnewsJinny Loo’s owner, Michelle Grady, told the Today hosts that Jinny Loo’s newfound fame may, in fact, be going to her head. She has already been recognized several times on the streets of New York City, wearing her signature pearl necklace.
This is a far cry from where it all began when Jinny Loo was rescued from the dog meat trade in the mountains for South Korea four years ago. Today, she and Grady live in Ukiah, California, where, according to her biography, Jinny Loo spends her time visiting schools as a rescue dog ambassador, sneaking onto kitchen chairs to put “her amazing tongue into everyone’s food bowls,” and screaming at her reflection in the mirror.

How Are ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Winners Actually Chosen?Dogs have been vying for the Ugliest Dog in the World title for 50 years now! Jinny Loo was one of nine who competed in this year’s competition during the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, California last Friday.
Anyone can enter their dog into the contest—they just need a photo and a short biography telling the dog’s story. While the dogs strut their stuff like little celebrities on the red carpet, the judges—there were three this year—not only consider their “ugliness,” but their background and biography as well.
The event is not just about finding the world’s ugliest dog but is meant to promote adoption and the idea that all dogs are unique, lovable, and deserving of a wonderful home.
“For 50 years, this event has celebrated the uniqueness of every dog while sharing an important message of compassion, rescue, and acceptance,” said Mandy Clendenen, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Agricultural Association, in a press release.
As the first place winner, Jinny Lu won a trophy, $5,000, and a trip to New York City to be on the Today show. Her face will also appear on limited-edition cans of MUG Root Beer, a contest sponsor.
Ugly never looked so good!
Havanese's Adorable Toothy Grin Has People Saying He Looks Like Gary Busey
Chances are you’ve had a conversation about who your celebrity doppelgänger might be… but have you ever considered who your dog’s celebrity doppelgänger might be?
The parents of this Havenese pup, Finn, don’t have to think too hard about the answer to that question, because the internet is already giving it to them. This dog is so obviously Gary Busey, especially when he smiles.

He looks so cute but at the same time, that grin is really impossible not to acknowledge, and commenters wasted no time pointing out how much he looks like Busey, the 82-year-old actor you may have seen in movies like A Star Is Born, Lethal Weapon, and Point Break. And you know what? They’re right.
Look at this photo of Gary Busey and tell me he and this dog are not twins:

What Does It Mean When a Dog ‘Smiles’?When humans smile, it usually means we’re happy — or at least, that’s what we want you to think, even if we’re just being polite. For dogs, it’s not quite the same.
While plenty of dogs like Finn make expressions that look like they’re smiling, it doesn’t always mean they’re intentionally trying to express happiness. There are a few different emotions that look on their face might mean, as dog behavior consultant Russell Hartstein told Chewy.
They might be happy… or they might be stressed, scared, or even showing aggression.
A Corgi looking happyThe good news? Most of the time, when your dog is smiling, they are probably feeling happy, according to what veterinarian Dr. Jeannine Berger told the outlet.
“They may have just engaged in a run or some play; are slightly panting; their mouth is slightly open; and the corners of the lips are drawn up, making us believe they are smiling,” she said.
This is good news — and if your dog is smiling but unhappy, they’ll probably be showing other cues that make that very clear. Or maybe they’re just trying to do a Gary Busey impression?

German Shepherd Mix Thinks She’s Being Stealthy While Gopher Completely Plays Along
I’ve watched dogs make questionable choices around yard critters, but Koda, the German Shepherd mix, may have invented a whole new genre: suspense comedy with a gopher soundtrack.
In the video, Koda is frozen near a gopher hole with one paw raised like she’s starring in the world’s most serious backyard spy movie. She doesn’t move randomly. She waits. She listens. Then, when the gopher squeaks, she creeps forward one tiny step.
View this post on InstagramThe video caption points out that her movements are synced with the squeaks, and once you notice it, you cannot unsee it. It’s like she believes the sound is covering her tracks. The gopher squeaks, Koda advances, and the whole thing becomes a cartoon heist where the burglar only moves when thunder hits.
That comparison came straight from the comments, and it’s painfully accurate. One viewer basically saw an old movie scene where thieves smash glass during the storm, except here, the criminal mastermind is a deeply focused dog, and the thunder is one unimpressed gopher.
My favorite part is that Koda thinks she’s winning. She’s giving stealth. She’s giving patience. She’s giving “No one can detect me if I only move during rodent commentary.”
View this post on InstagramMeanwhile, the gopher seems completely aware of the bit. Koda inches forward. The squeak happens. The game continues. It doesn’t feel like a hunt as much as a tiny underground comedian testing how much power one squeak can have over a very serious pup.
My dogs also like to mess with gophers, but they don’t have this level of theatrical patience. They would have gone from investigation to chaos in about 3 seconds, then looked personally betrayed when the hole didn’t produce a prize. I admire Koda’s commitment, but I can’t relate to the self-control.
Koda is different. She’s method acting. The intense music makes it even better, because her raised paw and slow-motion confidence deserve a full orchestra. She may not be stealthy, but she’s committed, and sometimes that’s funnier.
Why Dogs Get So Focused on Gophers and Backyard CrittersWhen your dog locks onto a small animal, it can look goofy, but that focus is often instinct taking over. AKC’s guide to dogs and critters breaks down how dogs can move from spotting to stalking to chasing fast, which is why your timing matters.
- Interrupt early. Once your pup is fully locked in, recall gets harder, so use “leave it” or a cheerful redirect before the chase starts.
- Protect the wildlife and your dog. Don’t let your dog dig into burrows or corner small animals, since both sides can get hurt.
- Give the drive somewhere else to go. Fetch, scent games, or structured walks can satisfy that chase brain safely.
Koda’s gopher may be playing along, but your yard critters still deserve a drama-free escape route.

Overweight Rescue Dog on Life-Changing Weight-Loss Journey Gets Best News at Latest Weigh-In
Street dogs often suffer from malnutrition and have to scavenge for every morsel of food. When these canines live in high-traffic tourist areas, they can actually run the risk of being overfed due to endless scraps and treats given by well-meaning people wanting to share a a special snack with a homeless dog.
Niall Harbison, founder of the Thailand animal rescue Happy Doggo, is currently helping Bella, a street dog who tipped the scales at 93 pounds. Literally obese and unable to get around, Bella is now on a healthy diet and exercise routine and already shedding pounds.
View this post on InstagramHarbison previously introduced Bella to his social media followers when he first brought her to Happy Doggo last year, severely overweight. After treating her with medication for a thyroid condition and placing her on a three-month wellness regimen, Bella returned to her neighborhood in much healthier shape.
Sadly, the precious pooch regained the weight she lost due to missing her meds and more overfeeding from well-intentioned tourists, so Harbison brought her back to his sanctuary to get her back on track.
“When she first arrived, she weighed 42.2 kg (93 pounds) and could barely move,” the on-screen text from @wearehappydoggo explained as Bella lay on the floor, unable to even stand on her own. “We started a strict weigh-loss plan right away.”
Rather than eating unlimited snacks from tourists, Bella was put on a structured, nutritious meal schedule approved by the Happy Doggo vets. She donned her special workout outfit of headbands and wristbands for her daily exercise regimen, and crushed training in every activity.
Bella’s Hard Work Is Paying OffBella recently had her daily weigh-in and is already down by several pounds.
“Stepped on the scale today and clocked in at 37.9 kg,” the caption shared. “That’s a whole 4.3 kg down!”
Thanks to Bella’s dedication, along with the help from Harbison and his team, Bella is on her way to a healthy body and better life.
“She’s getting her bounce back one step at a time, and we couldn’t be prouder of her,” the caption concluded.
