Normal kittens stay pretty tiny for a while. They're kittens! They're supposed to be small, and for the most part, they are... Except Maine Coons. Those kittens definitely didn't get the memo when it came to staying little.

Just look at these Maine Coon kittens. They're only three days old in the latter half of the video, and yet they're about the size of a regular kitten several weeks after they're born. It's honestly a little wild:

Mossy Cottage Maine Coons has the coolest kittens. These have such a rich, deep grey/black color! The second kitten almost completely changes color in her 72-hour update: you can see the white on her snout disappearing. She's only going to get more vivid!

They're only 72 hours old in this video, though they're a little older now, which means they've probably at least doubled in size again. That's standard for a Maine Coon kitten: they grow almost uncontrollably for the first few months after they're born.

These two kittens in particular are turning into Mossy Cottage's new stars: they're the only two kittens in a litter named after mushrooms. The black kitten is Nameko, and the Tabby is Enoki. There's a better close-up video introducing them:

They're going to make the best playmates while they still can. Eventually, they'll go off to their forever homes, but hopefully, they'll always remember each other!

How Big Do Maine Coons Get?

If three days is any indication, Enoki and Nameko are going to grow up to be absolutely massive. All of the cats at Mossy Cottage, who are European Maine Coons, are on the larger side.

Maine Coons are one of the biggest cat species you can get. These cats can get truly massive, measuring:

• Up to 40 inches long, nose to tail.
• Up to 16 inches tall.
• Up to 25 pounds, though some of the largest exceed 30 pounds.

Male Maine Coons typically end up bigger than females, and they grow pretty rapidly. At about 18 months, they reach their full physical size, though growth, coat changes, and maturity continue for years after. These cats aren't technically full-grown until 4-5 years old!

These kittens have a way to go. I'll be happily watching as much as I can for as long as I can!

Squirrels are usually all business. They run, stash, twitch, judge, and move through the world like tiny survival accountants with impossible schedules. So when one pauses in the middle of all that and has a full, visible, very relatable fear response to thunder, it hits a little harder than you expect.

That is Emma.

The video, shared from a squirrel account people clearly trust with their emotional well-being, shows Emma reacting to a sudden clap of thunder in the most heartbreakingly human-looking way possible. She startles, grabs at her little chest, and for one split second looks like every person who has ever been personally offended by loud weather. It's dramatic, yes, but it's also strangely tender. You're not just watching a squirrel get scared. You're watching a tiny wild creature try to gather herself in real time.

That is what makes the clip so powerful.

The post frames it as Emma capturing everyone’s attention with her reaction, and that feels exactly right, because once you see it, you can't move on like normal. She is so small that the thunder is so big, and the contrast between those two things does something to your nervous system. One commenter pointed out something especially sad and beautiful: Wild animals don't get the comfort systems we do. No music, no blanket, no friend texting “same,” no TV humming in the background. When they get scared, they have to self-soothe with whatever instincts and resilience they have on board.

That thought really lands here.

Because Emma doesn't have the luxury of collapsing theatrically onto a couch cushion and announcing that storms are ruining her life. She just has this little body, this little heart, and this immediate need to calm herself down enough to keep going. The fact that we can recognize that so instantly is part of why the clip has blown up. It's cute, yes, but it also brushes up against something deeper. Fear looks familiar, even in a squirrel.

And still, somehow, Emma remains adorable through all of it.

That may be unfair, but it's true.

Some animals go viral because they do something funny. Some go viral because they accidentally reveal something tender and real that people weren't ready for. Emma managed to do both in one clap of thunder.

The sky barked once, and suddenly, everybody on the internet wanted to protect one tiny squirrel from the weather forever.

Wild animals absolutely react to storms, but not always in the same ways pets or people do. Some species hunker down, some freeze, some keep moving, and some seem more bothered by sudden close sounds than by distant background thunder. Wildlife Online notes that even among wild mammals, responses to thunder and other loud environmental noise can vary a lot depending on species, distance, and context.

Emma didn't just flinch at thunder. She reminded everyone that even the tiniest wild hearts are doing their best under a very loud sky.

If you've ever had a pet, you inevitably have that little squirrel in your brain that whispers, "But what if we got another one?" The first pet is always a precious angel, so you're like, " That's a good idea," only for the second to usually turn out to be a little evil.

In the case of these two cat brothers, though, that couldn't be further from the truth. The two of them hate being apart, and whenever they can, you'll catch them curling up together and cuddling. It's the best (and cutest) way to keep warm!

I'm glad that @jezus04_ lets his cats cuddle like this. It's not clear if they're biologically brothers or if they're brothers by adoption, but that doesn't seem to matter to them. They cuddle all the same!

There aren't a ton of videos of these cats on his page, but this one came out with a bang. It garnered 7 million likes and almost 30 million total views! Everyone loved watching them cuddle, especially because the way they were holding each other was almost cartoon-like.

Do All Cats Like to Cuddle?

These two kitty brothers clearly love to cuddle, and the especially love cuddling each other. They grew up together and have never known differently! However, not all cats will be that way.

Cats will often huddle together for warmth, especially if they're strays. There's safety in numbers, too, so they often feel safer with a buddy they know well! Sleeping is a vulnerable time, so having "backup" eases their nerves. Plus, as kittens, sleeping together is the only way to keep warm.

Clearly, these two kittens have hung onto that into their adulthood. I hope there are many more snuggles to come!

She may be a "crazy cat lady" (which is only a compliment in these here parts) but her ears aren't lying to her — it sure does sound like Capone is saying "mom." How precious is that?!

Commenters seem to agree, too, including fellow pet parents who have observed similar behavior in their own cats. "I promise you aren’t crazy. I have a cat that says momma and another that says mommy," one wrote.

Why Maine Coon Cats Are Known for Being Vocal

While not all Maine Coons are making noises that suspiciously sound a lot like "mom" or other real words, they are a very vocal breed in general and are known for being very chatty.

But why? There are a few reasons that Maine Coons love to meow, chirp, and trill so much, though most of it goes back to the fact that they are very social animals, as Altamonte Cats points out. They like to make noises as a form of communication, so while you probably won't find your cat screaming for no reason (which could signal that a trip to the vet is in order), you will probably notice that they seem to be responding when you speak to them or to your other interactions.

However, the different noises they make do mean different things. If you hear your Maine Coon chirping, they're usually excited or curious about something. Softer meows are what you're more likely to hear when you're talking to them and they talk back.

If you're looking for a conversationalist to add to your household, Maine Coons can make excellent roommates. They're very good company, and the fact that they also happen to be such a beautiful breed doesn't hurt, either.

Animals have an instinct to look out for those they consider more vulnerable. Rhino is a blind cat who sensed that the foster kittens in his home needed some guidance, so he generously offered some support.

In the TikTok from @cosmetic.confessi, Rhino was introduced to the foster kittens and gently sniffed them to get familiarized. Despite his lack of vision, the pretty kitty navigated the area well and was careful not to step on the tiny fur babies.

Rhino's blindness was caused by an earlier illness when he was just a kitten.

"He started as our foster kitten a year ago, but came to us so sick he needed his eyes removed to prevent further infection," the onscreen text explained. "So we adopted him ourselves."

Rhino gently patted and nuzzled the kittens, showing a fatherly care toward the little ones. The striped cat was clearly attentive to how small the kittens were, as if he instinctually knew to treat them with tender care. He seemed to be an expert at using his other senses to safely approach each member of the litter.

Followers were moved by Rhino's sweet spirit and willingness to watch over the kittens.

"I love how he gently reached his paw out to touch the kitten!" one pointed out.

"The way he still automatically knows where to go for a nose boop," another remarked.

"What an angel being so sweet to the kittens," a follower raved.

"I love how he tentatively sniffed for the other one and then homed in on it," someone noted.

"Amazing how well he’s adapted. He even judges distance," a fan commented.

Caring for a Blind Cat

Blindness in cats can be caused by cataracts, retinal problems, glaucoma, or trauma. Keeping their environment safe and easy to navigate is imperative for them to thrive. Some helpful tips include:

• Make dangerous areas safe — Be sure there is nothing in their path that is harmful, such as sharp objects or steep drops.
• Guide your cat with your voice — Let your cat know where you are by talking, humming, etc.
• Keep the litter box in the same place — Cats are good at memorization and will get familiarized with its location.
• Avoid startling your cat — Gently make them aware of when you're approaching or entering a room.
• Give other pets a small bell to wear — The sound will make it easy for your cat to find or follow them.

Cats are skilled at adapting to obstacles they face. With a safe and convenient setup, a blind cat can live a happy and productive life. Rhino is a wonderful example of overcoming challenges and caring for others.

Millie, the Golden Retriever puppy, should currently be focused on important puppy responsibilities like stealing socks and dramatically sprinting through the house at top speed.

Many puppies adapt surprisingly quickly to casts and mobility restrictions, although recovery time depends on the injury and the veterinary treatment plan.

During Recovery, Puppies May Need:

• Restricted activity
• Supervised movement
• Extra rest
• Follow-up veterinary visits
• Assistance with stairs or slippery floors
• Positive reinforcement and encouragement

Veterinarians also recommend closely monitoring casts for swelling and irritation at the injury site or the puppy chewing on the cast, while helping pups stay comfortable during healing.

And judging by Millie’s determination to still run toward treats, this little Golden Retriever already seems focused on getting back to full puppy chaos as soon as possible.

Growing up, I never bought into the whole "there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow" thing. I was a very cynical child, but one thing I did love and definitely believed was magical was cats. I was convinced that they were just like the Warrior Cats books!

The Mossy Cottage Maine Coon Cattery has some of the most vivid cats I've ever seen. They specialize in European Maine Coon with deep, rich colors, and they do an incredible job. I've never seen a cat from here who didn't amaze me!

This cat is actually a Torbie! That's a Tortoiseshell (Tortie) and Tabby cross, meaning she has both the classic Tortoiseshell patchwork and the Tabby stripes. That's why her fur is so many different colors, and the red/orange patches around her face look a little splotchy. It's how she was meant to be!

She's got some red, orange, brown, and grey in her coat. That, mixed with her green-blue eyes, makes her a true rainbow Maine Coon! Other kittens, though less colorful, definitely stand out from the crowd as well:

These kittens are Black Smoke; you can tell because of their lighter fur. It looks like a puff of smoke on their chest! These kittens are a little older and have likely gone to their forever homes. I hope they're having the most fun!

Do Rare Colored Maine Coons Cost More?

If you've decided to purchase a Maine Coon, your decisions and research are only just beginning. First, you have to make sure that you're sourcing a cat from an accredited, ethical breeder. That is the single most important thing. Once you find one, the fun can begin.

There are dozens of Maine Coon coat variations out there, and some are harder to come by than others. If you want a rarer colored cat, be prepared to pay a premium. Some of the rarest (and most expensive) Maine Coon variations are:

• Blue Tortie
• Golden
• Smoke
• Solid orange (females)

There are other factors that contribute to how expensive a Maine Coon will be, too. European Maine Coons, which are larger, usually cost more. Polydactyl Maine Coons (cats with extra toes) will jack up the price as well.

While we don't know how much this stunning Rainbow Tortie Maine Coon would cost, she's worth it. I would love to have her!

Ragdolls and Maine Coons are easily two of the most stunning cat breeds of all time. They're just so classy: there's nothing better than these huge, elegant, and ultra-fluffy cats.

Kelsie Spencer hit the jackpot with this pair of kittens. One of them is a gorgeous chocolatey brown color, and then there's his sister, who's a Tortie. She's grey and tan, and on her nose, there's a perfect split down the middle.

This is pretty common for Torties in some capacity: some of them have a genetic condition that makes them that way. For most, however, it's just pure luck! Though she doesn't have a name yet, this awesome cat is definitely a lucky girl!

In this pairing, the mama cat is a Blue Pointed Ragdoll, while the dad is a European Maine Coon. You can see both in both babies: their Ragdoll side with their blue eyes and tufted, pointy ears, just like their Maine Coon dad. There are even more kittens:

One of them is even an orange female Ragdoll Maine Coon! That's basically a one-in-a-million cat. I'm in love!

Ragdoll-Maine Coons Come In Many Colors

Typically, a regular Ragdoll will be a creamy white color, often with darker points along their body. In order for them to be registered by TICA, they actually have to be white! However, when you mix them with another breed, the possibilities open up.

When you have a Ragdoll Maine Coon cross, they can be just about any color, including:

• Orange.
• Grey.
• Brown.
• Tortie.
• Tabby.

They can even take on some of the rarer coat colors of the breed, like Black Smoke! If you've never seen a Black Smoke Ragdoll-Maine Coon, you're missing out. They're gorgeous! Almost as gorgeous as this sweet split-faced girl!

What started as a terrifying fall from a bald eagle nest quickly turned into an even more urgent rescue after people realized the tiny eaglet was facing another dangerous threat entirely.

Thankfully, an entire community came together to save the baby bird.

First responders worked together to rescue a three-month-old bald eagle in Lancaster County. The baby bald eagle fell from its nest and needed a fishing hook removed from its beak before returning the bird to its mother.

TikTok user @6abcactionnews shared the emotional rescue story after birdwatchers spotted a baby bald eagle falling from their nest near Lampeter Road in Lancaster County, PA and immediately contacted authorities.

But when rescuers reached the eaglet, they discovered something even more alarming.

According to reports shared by Fox 43 and local responders, the baby eagle had a fishing hook embedded in its beak after apparently eating a fish brought to the nest by one of their parents.

Honestly, it's the kind of detail that makes your stomach drop immediately.

Thankfully rescuers were able to:

• Safely examine the eaglet
• Remove the fishing hook
• Confirm the bird was otherwise healthy
• Work together to return the baby safely back to the nest

And perhaps the sweetest update of all was that the eaglet’s mother and sibling reportedly accepted the baby back immediately once they were returned home.

People following the rescue online were deeply emotional:

• “To see the community coming together and be a part of putting that baby back in the nest was amazing.”

One commenter explained they had feared the worst after seeing wildlife officials arrive earlier in the day.

Shelter life had taken a serious toll on Beau since he arrived in October. The precious Pittie was extremely stressed in the kennel environment and was scheduled for a "humane euthanasia" to prevent further suffering.

The TikTok from @cassondrachristman shared Beau's story and thanks to an outpouring of love from followers, the canine cutie received adoption inquiries that spanned the globe.

"Beau was about to run out of time this week," the onscreen text explained. "Thousands of people shared his story trying to save him. Adoption interest forms came in from all over the world."

Potential adopters from Italy, Germany, the US mainland, and other Hawaiian Islands wanted to know about Beau, with more than 40 people ready to give him a forever home. What happened next was completely unexpected.

Beau's Future Took a Wonderful Turn

Things were headed in the right direction for Beau. Then Maui Humane Society got a call that changed everything.

"Our team received a message from a family on Moloka‘i who believed he might be their missing dog after disappearing late last year," the caption shared, where the caller said, “I'm sure Beau is my dog. After a month of not returning home, I thought he was gone. His name is Bruce. He's about a year and a half old.”

The Humane Society team is now working on getting Beau safely back to his family in Moloka‘i, and commended the numerous followers who advocated for the precious pooch.

"Because this community shared his story far and wide, his family was able to recognize him and reach out," the caption praised. "This reunion would not have been possible without all of you."

Research Shows Dogs Evolved a Special Muscle for ‘Puppy Dog Eyes’

Senior dogs are so sweet, and getting to be with them in their twilight years is a truly special experience.

Jazz (@jazzincharmcity on TikTok) is a Baltimore social media specialist who rescued a senior German Shepherd, Vader. Whether you’ve found your next dog sitter through a friend or family member or through a pet care site, it’s important to know the sitter’s previous experience. The best dog sitter for you will have colleagues or previous customers who can vouch for their experience and work ethic.

“One thing I can't overstate the importance of is genuine testimonials," says Bethany Wallace, marketing director of Yourgi. "If you can find positive reviews from other pet owners, you can generally be confident that you'll be getting a good pet sitter. With sitters in particular, trust is key. You're not just trusting these people with your pets. You're letting them into your home." 

2. They Agree to an Initial Consultation at Home

“Pet parents should also schedule an initial consultation or meet-and-greet in their home, so they can see the pet sitter interact with their dog,” says Beth Stultz-Hairston, president of Pet Sitters International. “This allows both the pet parents and the pet sitter to ensure they are a good fit before confirming services.” 

3. Your Dog Takes a Liking to Them

5. They Don’t Dismiss Your Pup's Needs

“It's a red flag if they seem dismissive,” Petersel says. “I've seen situations where the owner is explaining everything and the sitter isn't paying attention. Instead, they are saying things like, ‘Don't worry.' 'It'll be fine.’ etc.” 

This notion also applies when asking your dog sitter for updates throughout their shift. Any dog sitter who doesn’t communicate with pet parents is an immediate red flag.

“The phrase ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ is wildly outdated,” she explains. “Dogs can learn at any age, and I’ve personally helped a 13-year-old rescue dog work through reactivity.”

Smith believes the ability to learn doesn’t vanish with age. “Older dogs may need patience, consistency and sensible expectations, but they’re absolutely still capable of learning new skills, routines and confidence,” she says.

Chris Edge, founder at K9 Edge Dog Training, adds that learning is driven by repetition, clarity and emotional state, not youth. “In many cases, older dogs actually learn faster because they’re less impulsive and more capable of settling into consistent patterns,” he says.

Myth 2: Older Dogs Won’t Bond With a New Owner

Dogs have an extraordinary capacity for connection, Smith says. “An older dog may not show affection in the same bouncy, obvious way a puppy does, but that doesn’t mean the bond isn’t there,” she describes. “Some dogs show love by leaning against you, following you from room to room, resting near you, checking in quietly or simply choosing to feel safe in your presence.” So, when it comes to adopting an older dog don't believe that myth.

The truth about adopting a senior dog is, with time, kindness and predictability, an older dog can bond strongly with a new owner. “Some of the strongest relationships I’ve ever seen have come when a new owner provides safety and connection to a dog who has either lost it, or has never seen it at all,” Edge says. “In fact, many older dogs form very strong attachments because they’re seeking stability. When a new owner provides clear structure and calm leadership, the bond can develop quickly and deeply.”

Myth 3: Older Dogs Come With Too Many Health Problems

One of the biggest myths about adopting a senior dog is that older dogs are always unhealthy or high-maintenance. While age can bring some changes, many senior dogs remain active, happy, and full of life for years. In some cases, they can even be more predictable and easier to care for than younger dogs still growing and developing.

Experts say a dog’s individual health matters far more than their age. While it may seem like older dogs aren’t the best fit for people with active, busy lives, Smith challenges that notion and says that's one myth about senior dogs as older dogs nestle seamlessly into these lifestyles if their needs are met.

“Many older dogs are past the exhausting puppy stage and are happier to lounge, nap and enjoy a steadier daily rhythm,” she explains. “For people who work longer hours, have mobility limitations or want a dog who doesn’t need constant high-energy entertainment, an older dog can be a really thoughtful, realistic choice.”

Bonus Myth: Adopting an Older Dog Means You Won’t Get Much Time With Them

“This is such a heartbreaking misconception because it puts people off giving older dogs a chance,” Smith says. “A nine-year-old dog isn’t necessarily at the end of their life.”

Many dogs live several more happy, full years, especially with proper care and enrichment. “Five years with a dog isn’t ‘barely any time,’” she continues. “It’s thousands of walks, sofa naps, routines, greetings, shared moments and love.”

The value of a relationship with a dog, Smith adds, isn’t measured by how young they were when it started. It’s measured by the depth of the bond you build together, no matter when it begins.

She came to remind everyone at the skate park that greatness can arrive 6 inches off the ground and still embarrass the rest of the field.

In the video, she skates down a set of stairs at a BMX event with the kind of calm, locked-in focus that makes it even funnier. There's no hesitation. No wobbly “maybe I will try.” She just goes. And the second she lands, you can tell she knows exactly what she has done. One viewer pointed out how much she seems to hype herself up after the trick, and yes, that's absolutely part of the magic here. She doesn't just land it. She celebrates it with her whole tiny body.

Another person noticed the same thing everybody else did, which is that Rowdy looks incredibly proud of herself. Not relieved. Proud. That's an important distinction. This isn't a dog who accidentally pulled something off and then got lucky. This is a dog who seems fully aware that she just cleared the stairs and improved everyone’s day in one move.

It isn't just a “dog on a skateboard.” We have all seen novelty before. This is swagger. This is execution. This is a Dachshund showing up to a BMX event and somehow becoming the coolest girl there without even needing opposable thumbs.

And honestly, I respect it.

My dog, Lola, is also into extreme sports, but we are more of a mountain biking household. She would absolutely watch Rowdy do this, decide she is now part of the action sports community, and then spend the next 3 hours trying to prove she belongs in a Red Bull commercial.

The best part about Rowdy is that she doesn't seem surprised by any of this attention. She has the exact energy of someone who has always known she was special and is frankly pleased the rest of us are finally catching up. The stairs, the crowd, the whole event, none of it rattles her. He just drops in, lands the trick, and carries on like a professional.

Which, at this point, feels accurate.

I've seen a lot of dramatic dogs in my day, and two of them live with me. The things they'll do to state their case aren't limited to barking, howling, or whining. Sometimes I get the cute little doggy stomps to really drive home their point.

Mochi, the Shih-Tzu, may top any tantrums I've seen before. The dramatic boy whose hair rivals every '80s rock icon ever throws his whole body into his fits, and it only makes him cuter!
