Lonely Shelter Dog Is 'Still Waiting' for Adoption After 185 Days, and We're Emotional
Many shelter dogs are overlooked for adoption for various reasons including age, breed, size, and temperament. The chaotic environment of a shelter takes a toll on canines who continually get passed up, making it even more challenging to find a forever home.
Nina is a sweet dog who has been at the Maui Humane Society for over six months, and she is still hoping to finally be chosen.
@cassondrachristmanNina is still waiting. Nina’s potty trained, good in the house good when left alone. She’s had many best friend dogs at the Humane Society that have all been adopted. She is very rambunctious when she plays with other big dogs who like her play style and does need monitoring since she hasn’t learned to take a correction yet and will snap back. she knows sit and paw. She takes treats very gently. She loves her toys and flinging them up in the air and has been friendly with every person she’s met. She’s estimated to be about four. She does have a prey drive so should not be around small cats or small dogs or animals that are small and she can be strong on leash. Please come in and meet her. She’s waiting at Maui Humane Society. Adoptions to other Hawaiian islands are possible. Usually airlines charge about $500 around that price. Adoption team can get an estimate and coordinate the flight. Off Island adoptions to the mainland US are possible. usually the airlines charge around $1,000 for a dog her size. Canadian adoptions are possible, but you have to pick up Nina at the nearest US airport and take her back to Canada. If you are on Maui come meet her, bring your dog to meet her. since she will not get to meet the dogs in the home If it’s an off Island adoption she should be the only pet. Off Island adoptions have to be 100% certain that it would work out because she cannot come back. If you’re interested, please fill out the adoption interest form in my bio. It will connect you to the adoption team and they will go over logistics. they can help coordinate the flights and get a price estimate have done it many many times before #adoptme #adoptdontshop #hawaiitiktok #maui #fyp
♬ WILDFLOWER - Billie EilishIn the TikTok from @cassondrachristman, Nina was lying in her kennel but suddenly perked up with a shelter staff member came in to spend some time with her. The precious pooch has been at the shelter since before Christmas and is starting to lose hope.
"Nina is still waiting," the caption read. "She’s had many best friend dogs at the Humane Society that have all been adopted."
The canine cutie is described as "very rambunctious" when playing with other big dogs and should be supervised.
"[She] does need monitoring since she hasn’t learned to take a correction yet and will snap back," the story continued. "She does have a prey drive so should not be around small cats or small dogs or animals that are small and she can be strong on leash."
Though Nina has some energy that needs to be managed, she has a heart of gold. "All she wants is love," the on-screen text explained.
Nina Needs a Chance at HappinessThe approximately 4-year-old fur baby loved all the affection she was getting from the shelter staffer and was grateful for every moment she wasn't alone. Nina is potty trained, knows "sit" and "paw," does well when left alone in the house, and is friendly to everyone she meets.
The video concluded by noting the progress Nina has made since first arriving at the shelter, and pleaded for someone to open their heart to this special girl.

"185 days of waiting," the on-screen text shared. "6 months without a family. 6 months of hoping. She's come so far from coming in unable to even stand up. This can't be where she stalls. We can't let the shelter break her."
Hopefully, someone will see the love in Nina's eyes and heart and give her the chance she deserves.

Indoor Cats Live Longer Than Outdoor Cats, Study Finds
When you bring a cat into your family, one wish tops every pet parent's list: helping them live a long, happy, healthy life. While no one can control exactly how long a cat will live, there are some decisions that can have a major impact on your feline friend's lifespan.
If you’re curious what really makes the biggest difference, keep reading because researchers have identified a surprisingly simple way to help your cat live longer in a new study, and it may not be what most cat owners expect. The good news is, it's something pretty simple and Dr. Julie Hunt, DVM, a veterinarian contributor for Embrace Pet Insurance, backs it up.
So, even though many factors can influence cat lifespan, from genetics to daily care routines, knowing that one key decision can significantly affect how long your furry companion stays by your side, is worth paying attention to. For cat moms and dads, understanding how everyday choices shape cat health and longevity can make all the difference in giving their pet the best possible life. That way they can live their nine lives and beyond!

New Study Finds Indoor Cats Live Significantly Longer Than Outdoor Cats Cats that live indoors are exposed to fewer risks than outdoor cats.Every cat owner wishes they could have more years with their feline friend, and new research suggests one simple lifestyle choice may make a meaningful difference.
The study found that indoor cats tend to live significantly longer than outdoor cats, with outdoor cats living only about 70% to 80% as long on average. According to Dr. Hunt, those findings are consistent with what many veterinarians see in practice.
Researchers believe the difference comes down largely to the number of risks outdoor cats face throughout their lives, many of which are avoidable when cats live primarily indoors.
What Is a Typical Cat Lifespan? When kept healthy, cats can enjoy long, happy lives with their favorite humans (you, of course). While every cat is different, veterinarians say genetics, diet, preventive care and lifestyle all play a role in determining how long a cat lives.
"Cats’ lifespans can vary," Dr. Hunt says. "We typically consider cats to be senior cats at 10 years old, but I have treated cats in my veterinary clinic who reached and exceeded 20 years of age."
As it turns out, one of the biggest factors influencing a cat's lifespan may be whether they spend their life indoors or outdoors.
Why Indoor Cats Live Longer Than Outdoor CatsAccording to veterinarians, the biggest advantage indoor cats have isn't luck—it's protection. While no environment is completely risk-free, indoor cats avoid many of the everyday hazards that can dramatically shorten a cat's lifespan.
"Trauma, such as being hit by a car or attacked by another animal, is a major risk," Dr. Hunt says. "Becoming ill and/or succumbing to infectious disease, including Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), is another risk."
Outdoor cats are also more likely to encounter predators, toxins and dangerous situations that owners can't always prevent. Because they spend much of their time out of sight, injuries or illnesses may go unnoticed until they've become much more serious.
While some cats enjoy exploring outdoors, Dr. Hunt says an indoor lifestyle helps protect them from traffic, predators, infectious diseases and other dangers that can threaten even young, healthy cats.
How Much Longer Do Indoor Cats Live?Exactly how many extra years can an indoor lifestyle add? While every cat's lifespan is different, the difference can be surprisingly significant, which may shock pet owners and people considering adopting a feline.
"The study notes that indoor cats may live a decade longer than outdoor cats," Dr. Hunt shares. The '10-year' estimate reflects situations where outdoor cats experience life-ending trauma at a young age, such as being struck by a vehicle. This type of situation would have shortened its lifespan by a decade or more."
So, if you currently have a cat or are dreaming of getting one, keep that in mind.
Can Indoor Cats Still Have Health Problems?Even though living indoors gives cats an important safety advantage, that doesn't mean they will live forever, they still face challenges that can affect their health.
"Indoor cats can develope helath risks that tend to develope because of lack of enrichment such as diabetes, obesity and behavioral issues," she notes. "To avoid those, it's important to ensure your kitty is eating and drinking well, exercising and attending regular vet appointments."
Though, while both indoor and outdoor cats face sitautions that can shorten their life, pet parents can help prevent a lot of the situations that occur to outdoor cats if they decide to keep their furry companion inside their home and they provide them with an active lifetyle.
What Risks Shorten a Cat’s Life? While both indoor and outdoor cats face sitautions that can shorten their life, pet parents can help prevent a lot of the situations that occur to outdoor cats if they decide to keep their furry companion inside their home.
Outdoor cats are more exposed to trauma, such as traffic accidents. In fact, previously, a UK study found that traffic accidents were the leading cause of death among cats aged 1 to 8.
Other risks free-roaming cats face that indoor cats don't that can shorten their lives include things like having encounters with wild animals.
While some cats enjoy exploring outside, Dr. Hunt points out that an indoor lifestyle helps protect them from hazards like traffic, predators, diseases, and other dangers that can harm them when they are young and healthy.
That's not to say that indoor cats will live forever, they still face challenges that can affect their health. "Indoor cats can develope helath risks that tend to develope because of lack of enrichment such as diabetes, obesity and behavioral issues," she notes. "To avoid those, it's important to ensure your kitty is eating and drinking well, moving their bodies and attending regular vet appointments."
How to Train Outdoor Cats to Stay IndoorsTransitioning an outdoor cat to an indoor lifestyle takes patience, but it can make a big difference in their long-term health and safety. Rather than abruptly stopping outdoor access, experts recommend a gradual approach that helps your cat adjust without stress.
Start by increasing the amount of time your cat spends indoors each day, especially during key times like nighttime when outdoor risks are higher. Make the indoor environment more appealing with enrichment like scratching posts, window perches, puzzle feeders, and regular interactive play sessions to mimic the stimulation they would normally get outside.
You can also establish a consistent feeding and play routine so your cat begins to associate the indoors with comfort, safety, and positive experiences. Over time, many cats naturally begin to prefer staying inside when their environment feels engaging and secure.
While some cats may resist the change at first, consistency and enrichment are key. For many pet parents, the goal isn’t strict “training,” but rather helping their cat feel that home is the best and safest place to be.
5 Vet-Approved Ways to Help Your Cat Live LongerWhile no one can guarantee exactly how long a cat will live, veterinarians say a few simple habits can help support a longer, healthier life. Along with keeping your cat indoors, Dr. Hunt recommends these practical steps for promoting your cat's long-term health.
Take Your Cat to the Vet RegularlyPreventive care is one of the best investments you can make in your cat's health.
"Preventive care, including vaccines, helps to keep your cat safe and is necessary even for indoor-only cats," Dr. Hunt says. "Follow their directions for parasite control. Promptly addressing illnesses and injuries helps to keep your cat healthy longer."
Schedule Annual Wellness BloodworkCats are experts at hiding illness, which is why routine bloodwork can detect problems before symptoms appear.
"Performing wellness bloodwork on your cat once a year, even when your cat is healthy, can help you stay on top of your cat's overall heath," Dr. Hunt says. "Cats often hde when they don't feel well, so this bloodwork will turn up issues before you see them clinically."
Support Your Cat's Kidney HealthCats naturally don't drink much water, making kidney disease one of the most common health concerns as they age.
"This leads many cats to develop kidney failure as they age," Dr. Hunt warns. To help, Dr. Hunt recommends feeding your cat canned food once per day to support kidney health—ditto for multiple water bowls. If you cat doesn't lke water, she suggests getting at least one moving water source, like a fountain.
Protect Your Cat From Household HazardsSince you're able to watch your indoor cat more closely, make sure your home is cat-safe. Dr. Hunt says that means not getting a dog with high prey drive, keeping cats away from washers and dryers so they won't hide inside them and keeping toxic plants like lilies out of your home.
Don't Forget Dental CareHealthy teeth and gums are an important part of your cat's overall health and longevity. That's why pet parents should brush their cat's teeth.
"You should have your vet examine your cat’s teeth, and have them do anesthetized dental cleanings as needed to keep your cat’s teeth healthy," Dr. Hunt notes. "You can expect that over the years, some teeth may need to be extracted to keep your pet healthy."

Finnish Lapphund Refuses To Let Dad Take the Boat Out Without Her
Some dogs beg to be included.
Roxy negotiates from underneath the boat.
The Finnish Lapphund had clearly learned enough about her dad’s routine to know something important was happening. A boat was involved. Fishing was involved. Wind was possibly involved. Therefore, leaving her behind was not an acceptable option.
In the video, her dad explains that he was getting ready to go fishing and had planned on going without her. Roxy, however, had already filed an appeal. Instead of whining at the door or giving sad eyes from the porch, she placed herself directly under the boat.
A bold legal strategy.
From that position, Dad couldn't safely leave. Roxy didn’t need to bark, argue, or cause a scene. She simply became the fluffy little reason the entire operation had to pause.
View this post on InstagramWhen he asks if she wants to go fishing, the answer is obvious. She may not say it in words, but her location says plenty. Yes, she wants to go fishing. Yes, she has reviewed the plan. No, she doesn't approve of being excluded.
Dad gives in, because what else is a person supposed to do when a determined Finnish Lapphund has turned herself into a boat anchor?
Then the video cuts to the lake, and Roxy's victory lap is perfect.
View this post on InstagramShe's on the boat with her fur blowing straight back in the wind, looking like every sacrifice was worth it. The boat speeds across the water, and Roxy gets the full adventure she knew she deserved. This is pure dog happiness: fresh air, motion, family, and the deep satisfaction of knowing your protest worked.
One commenter joked that one blast down the lake must equal an entire week of sticking your head out the car window, and that feels exactly right. For a fluffy dog, this isn't just transportation. It's a spa treatment, enriching activity, and emotional reset all at once.
Another viewer called out Dad for almost denying her the wind-in-her-hair experience, which may be the strongest point made in the comments section. Roxy wasn't asking for too much. She was asking for basic lake rights.
It also says something sweet about their bond. She knew where he was going, and she wanted in. Dogs notice our patterns. They know which shoes mean a walk, which bags mean a trip, and apparently, which boat movements mean Dad is about to have fun without them.
Roxy simply handled the situation at the source.
Dad got his fishing trip, and Roxy got the lake breeze she was promised by destiny.
Everybody won.
How To Keep Dogs Safe on BoatsIf your pup loves the water, boating can be a great adventure, but it needs a little planning. Even confident dogs need supervision, shade, water, and a safe way to ride.
The American Kennel Club shares that pet parents should watch dogs closely around water and help them with safe swimming and boating habits.
A few smart tips:
- Use a dog life jacket. Even strong swimmers can get tired, startled, or fall in unexpectedly.
- Give them a safe spot to ride. Your dog needs secure footing where they won’t slide or get underfoot.
Roxy knew the boat was where she belonged. Dad just needed a little help understanding the assignment.

She Thought She Was Saving One Dog... Then an Unexpected Surprise Arrived
TikToker Tosha (its_me_tosha) and her family live on 33 acres "in the middle of nowhere" in Oklahoma. So when her husband spotted an unfamiliar dog walking up to greet him one day in mid-June, they had no idea where she had come from...or what she had been through.
As an experienced dog rescuer, Tosha immediately recognized the signs of neglect. The emaciated dog had one ear partially missing, was blind in one eye, and looked like she'd endured far more than any animal ever should. The family brought her inside, named her Grace, and focused on making her feel safe and comfortable. What they didn't know was that Grace wasn't the only life they'd just rescued.
Less than eight hours later, Grace went into labor and delivered 10 puppies, turning what they thought would be a rescue of one abandoned dog into the beginning of a new family. The heartwarming surprise has animal lovers celebrating a rescue that changed 11 lives instead of just one.

♬ original sound - itsmetosha 🐾Tosha's caption was so touching: "She was carrying 10 reasons not to give up."
As one commenter pointed out, "This is probably the first time she can relax and be a momma without fear. What a blessing you all are to her."

Signs That a Stray Dog Might Be PregnantBelieve it or not, surprise pregnancies are more common than many people realize, especially among stray dogs with unknown histories. It's unclear whether Tosha realized Grace was pregnant when she first found her. Because Grace was severely underweight, the pregnancy may not have been immediately obvious, even though she was just hours away from giving birth.
According to Purina US, a dog's gestation period typically lasts between 61 and 65 days, but noticeable physical changes often don't appear until around day 40. As the pregnancy progresses, a dog's teats may become larger and darker, she may experience mild "morning sickness," become quieter than usual, have a decreased or increased appetite, and gradually gain up to 50% more weight than normal.
Purina also notes that a pregnant dog's abdomen may become swollen and firm. However, first-time mothers and dogs carrying smaller litters may not show obvious signs, making pregnancy easy to miss.
If you rescue or find a stray female dog, experts recommend scheduling a veterinary exam as soon as possible. This can confirm whether she's pregnant, estimate her due date, and help ensure both the mother and her puppies receive the care they need for the healthiest possible start.

@freedomfarmhousePrincess Peep exactly where she wants to be! Every time I think a cuddle puddle can’t get any cuter, the kitties find a new way to surprise me😄🥰 #catlife #catlover
♬ original sound - mark.payton.tiktokThe TikTok from @freedomfarmhouse revealed a close-knit snuggle party in the bedroom. A cluster of cats were piled around Peep as she gazed comfortably from the center of the cuddle ring.
"POV: Your male cats are extremely protective over their princess," the on-screen text explained.
Apparently, Peep's brothers make sure their sister knows how important she is to them by frequently pouring on the affection.
"Princess Peep exactly where she wants to be!" the caption shared. "Every time I think a cuddle puddle can’t get any cuter, the kitties find a new way to surprise me."
Followers were moved by the felines' affection for each other and noted Peep's high position in the family.
- "She’s exactly where she wants to be," one remarked.
- "Literally why can’t I be princess cat," another joked.
- "I bet the purring rattles the windows," a follower pointed out.
- "Queen behavior," someone commented.
Male cats can be territorial, especially if they have not been neutered. If a male cat feels particularly bonded with a female cat, he may exhibit protective behaviors toward her. Males are also known to be more affectionate than females, as exhibited in Peep's "cuddle puddle".

Females are also very loving, yet have an independent streak and a more reserved demeanor. Males are often seen as more laid-back and sociable, making it easier for them to bond.
Peep is definitely a lucky lady to be surrounded by such love.

Amazon's Simple $7 Copper Disks Keep Bird Baths Sparkling Clean — 'These Really Work!'
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Summer is probably the most important time of year to make sure the wild birds visiting your yard have clean water. Setting up bird baths and bird fountains is super important for your feathered friends (and other critters, like squirrels and raccoons, who may visit.) But you'll also need to make sure that water stays clean! Amazon has a simple solution that's a best seller on the website.
The Mellbree Bird Bath Copper Cleaning Disc is just $14 for a pack of two — that comes out to only $7 each. (The Copper Sunflower and Copper Flower varieties are $14. If you want the Copper Bird design at the same listing, it's $16.)
Judging by the reviews, this is the perfect solution for your bird baths. The purification disc reduces the need to frequently scrub your bird bath. It works best with non-metallic basins, such as stone, plastic, nylon, ceramic, concrete, and composite materials.
According to the manufacturer, the disc "leverages copper's innate properties to help maintain cleaner water in bird baths." It doesn't replace the need to clean, but helps extend the intervals in between cleaning.
One buyer writes: "I should have ordered these years ago! My fountains are so much cleaner with these. No more algae clogging up the pumps and the water is still crystal clear weeks later."

Check out some of the reviews:
- "Just opened the package and threw one in each bath. Noticed how much cleaner the water was in about a week."
- "I have used this disc all spring and can say that my bird bath has never stayed cleaner."
- "These really work! I was skeptical, but now I’m a try believer. They keep the algae out of your birdbaths."
(Note: $14 for 2 discs is the special price for Amazon Prime customers.) Amazon offers free 30-day refunds/replacements.

BÄSTIS Hook, $1.99 at IKEAIKEA
At first glance, it looks like a simple black wall hook. Then you notice the tiny wagging tail. In what can only be called a work of art, IKEA has created something that pet parents will love.
Shaped like the back half of a dog, with the curled tail serving as the place to hang everything, the BÄSTIS Hook at IKEA is playful without being over the top. With a price tag of less than $2, this piece of art adds personality to any ordinary wall.

Dog People Find Creative Places to Use ItThe item is marketed as a hook, but dog people have found many other practical uses around the home.
One reviewer placed it in his kids' bathroom. The bathroom has a Snoopy theme, and they praised the quality. In his words, the bath towel fits and hangs nicely. The best part? The tail is not sharp or pointy, making it safe for kids.
Another placed it behind the back door, specifically for their dog's leash and called it "the perfect touch."
And then one mentioned how many compliments he gets, saying, "I always get compliments on them. Especially the black ones, since I have two black dogs. Durable, handy to hang leashes, collars, and a conversation item."
A Different Type of Pet DecorNot everyone wants paw prints or dog bone decorations throughout their home. This hook falls into a different category.
Think of it like a humorous item rather than dog branding. This is the kind of object you hang up, leave it there, and let guests discover on their own.
Functional, decorative, and keeps people talking. Find it in IKEA stores and online for less than $2. Fair notice: you need to buy hardware for mounting separately.

This Clever Dog Bowl Trick Could Become Every Pet Parent's Favorite Summer DIY
Summer enrichment doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a few healthy ingredients, a little freezer space, and a creative idea that turns an ordinary afternoon into your dog's favorite part of the day.
With temperatures climbing beyond the safe range for dogs, pet parents are trying everything they can to keep their pets cool and happy.

One pet parent found a way to provide mental stimulation, play and enrichment for her dogs, all packed in a bowl that will keep your dog cool this summer.
The Two-Bowl Trick That Will Keep Your Dog Coolhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/ptrBysGSCO8
The logic behind this enrichment is amazing. You place a smaller bowl inside a larger one, pack the ingredients around the sides, fill the larger bowl with liquid and freeze.
After several hours in the freezer, you have a hollow ring of ice between the two bowls that your dog can play with. Here are the full instructions:
- Place some treats at the bottom of a large bowl
- Place a smaller bowl inside, and weigh it down
- Add fruits, veggies and some meat around the sides
- Fill the bowl with chicken stock or water
- Freeze until completely firm
- Remove the smaller bowl and gently release the frozen bowl
The original recipe has shredded chicken, blueberries, cucumber and treats around the sides; however, feel free to customize it with your pet's favorite foods

Frozen Puzzle that Provides Fun and RefreshmentThe frozen bowl combines hydration, enrichment, and a tasty reward into one icy delight. It does more than help dogs beat the heat. It taps into something pets enjoy: working for their food.
As your dogs spend the hot afternoon sniffing and licking, this bowl encourages them to slow down instead of gulping food in seconds. The ice gradually melts, helping dogs get some extra water in warm weather.
Pet Parents Love the CreativityThe idea won over fellow dog parents. They praised the creativity and the excitement of dogs enjoying it.
One fan called it "a fabulous ice bowl with veggie, meat, and fruit frozen into it." Another praised the creator, saying she is "always full of ideas and willing to help."
The bowl looks colorful, requires little effort to prepare, and provides dogs with an engaging summer activity. And that is all we want for our furry companions during the incoming heat wave.

Orange Cat's DIY Entertainment Method Has Everyone Laughing
Cats can be pretty resourceful creatures when they want to be, even the ones who are living that cushy indoor life. For better or for worse, they will find a way to keep themselves entertained when they're bored, and fortunately, this cat proved his genius rather than destroying the carpet!
Behold: Momo the orange cat, who is so smart he invented his own game. What a clever boy!
@momoandgoosehe’s so creative!! nobody taught him this 😂 #cats #catsplaying #cutecat #flamepointsiamese #fyp
♬ original sound - momoandgooseUsing a springy toy and his travel carrier, Momo made up his own game when he gets bored. First, he puts his toy on top of the carrier, and then runs inside, which makes the toy spring up into the air, and then, he gets to run and chase it, and start the game all over again.
And according to his mom, nobody showed him how to do this — he came up with it all on his own, which just goes to show that he really is clever.
He's having a blast, and the game looks like a good way to get some exercise in. I wish he could come over and teach my cats how to play!
Related: Orange Cat Teaching Her Kitten ‘Martial Arts’ Is the Most Orange Cat Thing Ever
How to Keep Active Cats BusyNot all cats will be into the idea of inventing their own games to play the way that Momo is, but that's fine — there are plenty of ways to keep active cats busy, even if they spend most or all of their time indoors.
This does mean having the right toys on hand, so they don't get too bored. When choosing toys, remember that cats love to play in ways that satisfies their natural instincts, which include climbing and hunting. That's why they go so wild for a laser pointer!
The Animal Humane Society offers a few suggestions for enrichment for active kitties:
- Offer plenty of vertical spaces, like cat trees and climbing shelves
- Puzzle feeders, to keep treat time entertaining
- Set up a perch near a window for people (and bird) watching
- Consider adding a catio to your yard so they can safely hang out outside
And of course, having a variety of toys on hand will go a long way too. You never know — you might discover they do actually get as creative as Momo does when given the chance!

Shy Shelter Dog Waited 4 Years for a Family — Then Her Happy Ending Was Cut Short
Dogs in shelters long for their forever homes, with some waiting longer than others. Some canines repeatedly get passed up for adoption for various reasons including breed, size, age, and temperament. There are also times when a dog has an off day in the shelter and may not make the best impression to visitors, prolonging their lack of a forever home.
Bella and Buster are canine siblings who have both been at the Heber Springs Humane Society for too long. The precious pair was finally adopted and the paperwork finalized, but Bella ended up back at the shelter through no fault of her own.
@humanesociety_hsAfter four long years of waiting, Bella and Buster are finally going home. ❤️ Today, they begin their new chapter as they head to Florida with a family of their very own. We cannot thank TikTok enough for helping their story reach so many compassionate people. Because of your shares, comments, and support, these two sweet souls were finally seen. What once felt impossible became a reality because people cared enough to stop, watch, and spread the word. Thank you for giving Bella and Buster the chance they have always deserved. Their journey reminds us that no matter how long it takes, hope is never lost. Safe travels, Bella and Buster. The best days of your lives are just beginning. ♬ Paper Birds - Jordan Halpern SchwartzThe TikTok from @humanesociety_hs posted in mid-June shared the wonderful news that Bella and Buster were both adopted and headed to their forever home in Florida. After four years in the shelter, this brother-and-sister team were finally going to experience the love and security of a forever family.
Unfortunately, forever never happened. An update on the post revealed that Buster ran away during transport, prompting the adoption of Bella to fall through. While there's no mention of Buster's status, Bella is back at the shelter even though she did nothing wrong.
The precious pooch is now waiting again, but this time without her brother. The social media account reported that Bella became besties with Joy, another sweet pup at the shelter longing for a family. The two fur baby friends are helping each other through shelter life as they keep hoping to finally be chosen.
Bella Is Shy and FearfulA previous post described both Bella and Buster as "very timid dogs who will need patient, gentle support as they learn to trust and feel safe. They are not the type of dogs who will adjust overnight — they need adopters willing to give them time, consistency, and understanding without expectations or pressure."

Bella needs a home with a fenced-in yard to safely explore and gain confidence. She is best suited for a pet parent who can see past her fear and give her the compassion, structure, and patience she needs to let her guard down.
Hopefully Bella will get another chance at happiness with a family that truly lasts forever.

This Dog Sashays Down the Street on Her Hind Legs Like She Owns the Sidewalk
I have seen dogs do a lot of strange things over the years, but I genuinely wasn't prepared for this. One second I was happily listening to a nostalgic song, and the next I was staring at my screen wondering why a fluffy little dog was confidently strutting down the sidewalk like she was headed to an HOA meeting to file a noise complaint.
Her name is Fiona, and let me tell you, this girl has confidence. She doesn't just walk on her hind legs for a second or two. She fully commits to the bit, sashaying down the sidewalk like she's got errands to run and absolutely no time for anyone else's nonsense.
@thefionawalksWhen Fiona Walks like a human, there are times, when she’s so confused, but her roads still lead to you, and she just can’t turn and walk away #dogwalk #walkingdog #dogsoftiktok #dogwalking #dog
♬ All For You - Sister HazelThe hilarious video was shared by @thefionawalks and it's set to Sister Hazel's classic song "All for You," the clip shows Fiona strolling upright on her hind legs down the street with shocking confidence.
She's not wobbling.
She's not struggling.
She's walking like she pays property taxes.
Related: Bully Mix Stands up Like a Toddler and People Can’t Get Over It
The video was so funny that even the band Sister Hazel jumped into the comments.
"OMGOODNESS! We love this SOOO MUCH!! Honored to be a part of this masterpiece!! 😂 THANK YOU! Kb"
The rest of the internet wasn't much calmer.- "I honestly was distracted listening to the song for about 15 seconds and then re-focused and was like wtf am I watching here lol."
- "Imagine this walking around the house in the middle of the night."
- "She looks like she is going to tell the neighbors to turn the music down."
- "I feel like I need to see it from the front but I'm so scared."
- "I love her. I'm also completely terrified of her."
- "Something I never thought I'd say: 'I hope this is AI.'"
- "This song makes it so much more funny."
Personally, the HOA comment absolutely sent me.
Fiona has the energy of someone who owns exactly fourteen decorative throw pillows and knows the trash cans are supposed to be back inside by 7 p.m.
Is It Safe for Dogs to Walk on Their Hind Legs? @pappythepoodlePappy walking on hind legs on Michigan Avenue #pappythepoodle #fyp #dogsoftiktok #chicago
♬ original sound - Pappy the Poodle MerchMany dogs will briefly stand or take a few steps on their hind legs, especially when they're excited or trying to get a better view. Some dogs even learn to do it as a trick.
However, veterinarians generally recommend not encouraging prolonged walking on two legs, since a dog's body is designed to move on all fours. Extended upright walking can place extra strain on the spine, hips and joints over time.
If your dog naturally pops up for a moment every now and then, that's usually different from repeatedly asking them to stay upright for long periods.
If this were my neighborhood, I'd be peeking through the curtains every evening hoping Fiona walked by again.
Not because I'd be scared.
Because I would absolutely need to see whether she was on her way to collect HOA dues... or just heading home after a very productive day.

St. Bernard ‘Helps Mom Do Laundry’ With the Biggest Helping Paws
Dogs are famously unhelpful, at least most of the time. Some dogs rescue people from burning buildings, and others have legitimate jobs that they do. For the most part, though, they stare at you wondering why on earth you think you have the right to tell them what to do.
Not this Saint Bernard, though: whenever he can, he loves to steal Mom's laundry basket and help out. He's probably one of the only dogs big enough to carry a full-sized laundry basket, so it's nice to see that he's putting that skill to good use:

♬ original sound - MillennialQueen🥀Kingsley the St. Bernard better come teach my dogs a thing or two! When I was a kid, I had a dog who would lie in the laundry basket, but that was it. Our clothes smelled like dog and got wrinkled in the shapes of paw prints.
Not Kingsley, though: he loves to take that laundry basket and run. He's obviously trying to pick up laundry before his mom has the chance to do it herself. She thinks he's just being a thief! That's what you get for trying to lend a massive helping paw, I guess.
Related: Fluffy Saint Bernard Puppies Look Like Real-Life Snoopys
Don't worry, though: laundry isn't the only thing Kingsley does to be helpful every day. He also loves to stand in the backyard and bark — even if he's barking at absolutely nothing 99 percent of the time.

Saint Bernards Are Super StubbornThere's one thing everyone should know about this giant breed, and most other giant breeds like them: they are incredibly stubborn. That's part of the charm, of course, but it can also be a little bit of a curse.

St. Bernards can be trained: you can teach them to potty outside, sit, and stay. However, they're also very obstinate. It's their way or the highway, and it's easy to find yourself caught in a showdown. Beware, though. You will not win a battle of wills against these 150+ pound balls of fluff! - Toys
- Treats
- Rides in the car

This Rare, 20-Year-Old Serval Cat's Reaction to Mom Coming Home Is Pure Love
There's nothing like coming home after a long week away for work to your loved ones, especially when that loved one is a beautiful, 20-year-old rare Serval cat.
Though you would think an older, wild African cat like this, who's the size of a small wolf, may not be happy their mom was away for a week, this one shows affection most sweetly, and viewers can't get enough of their heartwarming reunion.
@chloetheservalDo we think she forgives me for being gone so much the past few weeks 🥺

Can You Keep a Wild Serval Cat as a Pet?First of all, can you even have a Serval cat as a pet, considering they are wild, medium-sized African cats?
A Serval cat, also known as Leptailurus serval, is legal to have, but only in 10 states in the U.S., and you also have to have the right permits, according to Petful.
It's incredible to think you can have these types of cats as pets, considering that when they are fully grown, they reach 21 to 24 inches at the shoulder and can weigh as much as 40 pounds.
You also should be ready to pay up, as Serval cats can cost as much as $20,000 to buy, and then you're looking at up to $10,000 per year for food, exotic vets, permits, and just making sure they have the proper enclosure.
Considering that Chloe is 20 years old, that is quite a bit of money!
How Long Do Serval Cats Live? For Serval cats who live in the wild, they usually only live 10 to 12 years, according to exoticcattery.
Serval kitties who are kept in captivity, tend to live longer, even reaching up to 20 years, like this beauty in the video.
They tend not to live as long in the wild because of predators, diseases, and their environments.
If they're domesticated, to ensure they live a long life, they need to live in a spacious environment, and though we only saw a little bit in that video, that house did look very open.
They also have several strict diet requirements that mimic that of wild cats who hunt small prey.
The fact that Chloe, the Serval cat, is 20 years old and seems quite healthy and happy means this family has done a good job taking care of this unique and wild cat.
Check out this video of her being a sweet, cuddly girl with her mom.

Beachgoers Get a Once-in-a-Lifetime Surprise From a Horse and Her Baby
On a typical beach day, you're bound to see a few cool creatures, from crabs to turtles to fish, and, if you're really lucky, maybe you'll even spot a dolphin in the distance.
And then, there was this type of lucky that we get to witness in the TikTok video below: The group of beachgoers who were actually approached by wild horses in a truly breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime moment.

They seemed pretty curious, only checking things out for a moment and then leaving. Maybe the baby horse wanted to join the other kids in playing in the sand?

According to the Northern Outer Banks' tourism website, these are Corolla wild horses, and though they were in the area naturally, in 1995, they were moved to a different section of beaches to keep them safe. They wander this area freely, but there is a staff who makes sure they're protected.
There are about 100 Colonial Spanish Mustang horses left in this herd, and if you want to make sure you see them during your beach trip, you can book a guided tour that will ensure you get to experience this majestic sight.
Just remember: If you see the horses, don't feed them. They are only able to digest beach grains, so eating foods like apples and carrots can be deadly for them. The OBX also asks that you keep your distance for everyone's safety, which is what matters in keeping your horse sighting truly magical.
