Lola Young Shares Health Update Ahead of 2026 Grammy Awards Performance
Lola Young is performing at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 1, just days after her return to the stage following a months-long hiatus.
The "Messy" singer was forced to seek help after collapsing on stage on Sep. 27, 2025, while she was midperformance at the All Things Go Festival in New York City, a moment that quickly went viral.
At the time, the incident was attributed to a combination of exhaustion, dehydration, and ongoing mental health struggles, and forced Young to announce a break from touring just three days later.

Young addressed her return to performing while on stage at Spotify's Best New Artist Party in Los Angeles on Thursday, her first major performance since the health scare put her on hiatus just months prior. During the show, the "Wish You Were Dead" singer reassured fans that she is "back and feeling better than ever."
"I haven’t performed since September, so this is a very, very special moment for me," Young told the audience. "Thank you to everyone who makes performing feel like this."
Lola Young Will Take the Stage at the 2026 Grammy AwardsLola Young's upcoming Grammys performance marks another major milestone in her comeback. The 25-year-old British singer-songwriter is set to take the Grammys stage for the first time.
Young is nominated Best New Artist category at the 2026 Grammys alongside Addison Rae, Alex Warren, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, Olivia Dean, SOMBR, and The Marías.
The Sunday evening performance will feature all eight Best New Artist nominees performing a special segment together.Sabrina Carpenteris also confirmed to be performing, as well as Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, andLady Gaga.
Trevor Noah is hosting again this year, marking his sixth and final time taking the stage to emcee the music industry's biggest night, as Executive Producer Ben Winston confirmed last month.
Legendary Rock Singer Opens Up About Guitar Solo in Most Famous Song
When it comes to the most influential bands of the '90s, Goo Goo Dolls are often thrust straight to the top of the list largely because of one song that refuses to fade with time. "Iris" has become an era-defining hit, racking up more than 3 billion streams on Spotify and remaining instantly recognizable decades after its release.
Beloved by fans across multiple generations, the track's sweeping emotion and unforgettable sound helped cement the band's legacy. But one detail about "Iris" still surprises some listeners.
While John Rzeznik is known as the band's lead singer and guitarist, and even wrote the iconic song, he isn't the guy who played the slide guitar solo on the recorded version. He also doesn't take on the solo during live performances.
Rzeznik wrote "Iris" for the 1998 film City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. He and his band recorded the soundtrack smash hit, but when it came to that slide guitar solo, it was performed by session musician Tim Pierce.
The reason Rzeznik sat it out? He confessed to Geniusthat his favorite part of "Iris" is that slide guitar solo and that he actually wanted to play it.
"We were lucky enough to work with a guy named Tim Pierce," Rzeznik recalled. "When I did it, it sounded like a bunch of cats fighting and when he did it, it was just this gorgeous, lush thing, you know?"
John Rzeznik Explains 'Iris' Inspiration and Why It ResonatesIn that same interview, Rzeznik went into detail about how he was inspired by the City of Angels storyline to write the song. The film was about an angel (Cage) who fell in love with a human (Ryan) and had to decide if he would give up immortality to be with her.
The song continues to resonate because, at its core, it's not about the supernatural at all. Instead, "Iris" captures the human desire to be fully seen and deeply loved, but that kind of vulnerability is not without risk.
"I think the hook of the song is just easily relatable," Rzeznik explained.
Then he went on to confess, "I mean, you know, I got lucky" regarding the song's ongoing success.
Lucky indeed, as "Iris" was still topping the Billboard charts as recently as 2025 after it went viral on social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.
If You Learned These 7 'Rules' Growing Up, You May Have Been Raised by Emotionally Immature Parents
Rules are a part of life, especially during childhood. You may remember seeing them posted in your classroom or going over them with your parents. It's good to establish rules for kids as they develop. However, unlike "not running by the pool" or "not talking to strangers," some rules don't actually stand to benefit you, the child. And sometimes that's because they're set by emotionally immature parents, who often have different motives for setting directives for their kids.
"Emotionally immature parents often view their children as extensions of themselves or a source of emotional support, rather than a separate person with their own needs," explains Dr. Emily Guarnotta, Psy.D., PMH-C, a psychologist and the founder of Phoenix Health. "The child learns that to be loved, they must suppress their true selves. This becomes like a survival strategy that continues into adulthood."
She shares that, unfortunately, people who were raised by emotionally immature parents often internalize these "rules," which can impact how they see themselves, cope with emotions and interact with others. And as you can imagine, this can be detrimental in adulthood.
So, if you learned these seven "rules" growing up, you may have been raised by emotionally immature parents. However, rest assured: Healing is possible and life-giving.

1. "Don't trust anyone outside of the family"This one can cause unhealthy levels of isolation that follow you into adulthood.
"Emotionally immature parents may disparage outsiders like teachers, friends or extended family members and encourage children to distrust," Dr. Guarnotta notes. "They seek to make the child dependent solely on the parent. This is a form of control to keep the child close and prevent the parent from being 'found out.'"
As a result, you may not have developed a diverse and healthy support network, which you probably (absolutely) needed with emotionally immature parents.
The first "rule" (don't trust anyone who isn't us) may trigger this one.
That said, some secrets—like the baller gift your family got for Gram for her 80th birthday—are fun and worth keeping. Others deserve airing out, but they may make an emotionally immature parent look bad, such as the fact that you're taking on huge responsibilities like bathing a younger sibling before you're developmentally ready.
"This rule asserts that children must keep any undesirable information or behaviors within the family system," Dr. Guarnotta warns. "It preserves the family's image at all costs, even over the child's well-being. It's harmful because it isolates the child. As an adult, they may struggle to open up to others, even in safe spaces like therapy."
"Because I said so" may have been a common refrain in your household if you grew up with an emotionally immature mom or dad, but it wasn't a healthy family mantra.
"This rule forbids children from questioning their parents," Dr. Guarnotta notes. "The parent remains in complete control and is always 'right.'"
As an adult, she shares that you might struggle to think critically and fear authority figures.
It was an impossible rule to follow then, and now. Yet, you may find yourself hell-bent on trying to follow it to this day.
"Emotionally immature parents may demand perfection because they see their children's performance as a reflection of their own self-worth," Dr. Guarnotta explains. "It's a sign of emotional immaturity because parents don't recognize that children are their own people and have room to make mistakes."
She notes that this "rule"—often set by emotionally immature parents—can cause you to become a chronic overachiever and "contribute to anxiety and a fear of failure."
Related: 13 Signs a Boomer Parent Has High Emotional Intelligence, According to Psychologists
Emotionally immature people constantly adapt this mindset, and it's especially toxic when they project it onto their children.
"Children who do demonstrate vulnerability might be mocked or punished," Dr. Guarnotta reports. "In this environment, children learn that it's unsafe to be themselves. As adults, they may end up hiding their true feelings and struggling with intimacy."
Dr. Guarnotta notes that emotionally immature parents don't believe in boundaries.
"They feel entitled to read journals, enter rooms without knocking or demanding to know every detail of their child's life," Dr. Guarnotta reveals. "This behavior is a sign of codependency. It fails to teach children healthy boundaries and can also lead to a negative view of privacy."
You deserved love from your parents, and it was not your fault if you didn't get it.
"Instead of being freely given, love is earned as a reward for 'good behavior' and compliance," Dr. Guarnotta emphasizes. "This is a control tactic to keep the child subservient."
We repeat: It was your parents' problem, not yours.
"It's a sign of emotional immaturity because parents withhold their primary responsibility to love their children unconditionally," she explains further. "It's harmful because it teaches children that they are fundamentally unlovable, affecting their self-worth and confidence."
Related: People Who Were Constantly Criticized as Children Often Experience These 8 Relationship Problems, Psychologists Say
Dr. Guarnotta shares that reparenting yourself lets you give yourself the validation, safety and compassion that you didn't get but totally deserved growing up.
"This shifts you from a place of feeling helpless to your past circumstances, to one where you have the power to be the parent that you always needed," she explains.
For instance, say you feel triggered by an event, like receiving constructive criticism at work. Rules about "perfection" growing up may send you spiraling. Instead of getting on the shame train, Dr. Guarnotta suggests validating your experience and showing up for yourself in a way that meets your needs.
"You might say, 'It makes sense that I would feel this way about this,'" she suggests.
Then, think about what might make you feel better, such as telling yourself that setbacks define you as a full human (but don't impact your worth), or choosing to focus on the present moment, like the smell of the tea you're sipping.
Your emotionally immature parents may not have respected boundaries, but Dr. Guarnotta says they're healthy.
"Boundaries are protective measures that prevent further harm," she explains. "They involve clearly communicating your limits, such as, 'I'm happy to talk to you, but if you continue to make disparaging remarks, I will have to hang up.'"
Dr. Guarnotta emphasizes that a therapist who understands childhood trauma and dysfunctional family dynamics can help you heal.
"Many adult children of emotionally immature parents end up feeling 'stuck' as adults," she states. "They may recognize the dysfunction of their past, but find themselves in the same cycles. A good therapist can help you understand how your past impacts you today and break those negative cycles so that you can truly move forward."

One of Disney’s Most Beloved Rides Is Making a Comeback
For longtime Disney fans, few attractions spark nostalgia quite like Soarin' Over California—and next week, it’s officially coming home.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Disney California Adventure, Disneyland Resort is bringing back the original Soarin’ experience beginning February 6, giving guests a limited-time chance to fly once more over the Golden State the way they did when the park first opened in 2001.
When Disney California Adventure debuted on February 8, 2001, Soarin’ Over California became an instant park favorite. The pioneering flying theater attraction—complete with sweeping aerial footage of the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite National Park, Palm Springs, downtown Los Angeles, along with the scent of orange groves and a soaring musical score—redefined what a theme park ride could be. Its success was so immediate that Disney expanded EPCOT’s The Land pavilion to install the attraction in Florida, essentially exporting a love letter to California across the country.

View this post on InstagramOver time, that popularity grew into something global. Disney eventually introduced Soarin’ Around the World, featuring landmarks from across the globe, which now plays at parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Shanghai and Tokyo. Still, for many fans, the original California-focused version remains unmatched.
While the attraction has made occasional return appearances over the years, this run carries added weight. The attraction will run from February 6 through July 1, anchoring the park’s anniversary celebration with a heavy dose of nostalgia.

The milestone extends well beyond a single ride. In early 2001, Disneyland Resort completed what was then its largest expansion ever: a second theme park, an upscale resort hotel and a dining-and-entertainment district that transformed a former parking lot into a multi-day destination. Twenty-five years later, Disney California Adventure, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Downtown Disney District are all marking their anniversaries together in 2026.
These celebrations also layer onto the ongoing Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, creating a rare moment where multiple eras of Disney history are being honored at once. Throughout the resort, guests will find limited-time food, merchandise and experiences designed to nod to where these destinations began—and how far they’ve come.
The timing also sets up what comes next. On July 2, Disney California Adventure will debut a brand-new version, Soarin’ Across America, created in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday. That show is also set to appear at EPCOT around Memorial Day.
As Disney California Adventure looks ahead to its next chapter, this return offers a chance to remember exactly where the journey began.

Is Taylor Swift at the 2026 Grammy Awards?
Is Taylor Swift at the 2026 Grammy Awards? That's the question on many viewers' minds on Sunday, Feb. 1, as celebrities started trickling in on the red carpet.
Is Taylor Swift at the 2026 Grammy Awards?Ahead of the Grammys, Swift was not expected to attend the awards show, hosted by Trevor Noah, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. She had not arrived on the red carpet, as of 7:05 p.m.
What Happened to Taylor Swift at the 2026 Grammys? The most likely reason for Swift's predicted 2026 absence at the Grammys was that she received zero nominations—mostly because the pop superstar, 35, did not release any new music within the eligibility window. Swift released The Tortured Poets Department on April 19, 2024, and The Life of a Showgirl on Oct. 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the window for the 2026 Grammy Awards was from August 31, 2024, to August 30, 2025. Swift was not announced as a presenter or a performer at the 2026 Grammy Awards, either.
However, it was possible that she might have shown up to support some of her friends—like Sabrina Carpenter,Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Bon Iver—who were nominated.

In 2025, the "Shake It Off" singer attended the Grammys when she was nominated in six categories. They included: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year for "Fortnight," Record of the Year for "Fortnight," Best Music Video for "Fortnight," and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Us" with Gracie Abrams. Unfortunately, Swift went home with zero awards.
How Many Grammy Awards Has Taylor Swift Won?Swift's most recent Grammy wins happened at the 2024 awards ceremony. There, she snagged Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights. In total, the "So High School" songstress has won 14 Grammy Awards during her career.
The 2026 Grammy Awards kick off on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

’70s Rockers Win First Grammy After 50 Years
After five decades of shaping alternative and gothic rock, The Cure have finally won their first Grammy Award—and they didn’t stop at just one.
The legendary band took home two awards during the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony on Sunday, February 1, winning Best Alternative Music Performance for their song “Alone” and Best Alternative Music Album for Songs of a Lost World. Both categories were presented during the live-streamed ceremony ahead of the main broadcast.
Singer-songwriter Jesse Wells presented the awards and read a statement on behalf of the band following the first win. Wells then accepted the second Grammy immediately afterward.

“We are honored to receive this award,” the statement read. “We would like to thank everyone who helped in the creation of our songs, particularly co-producer Paul Corkette, everyone in the Universal Music Group who worked so hard to get our lost work found, and most importantly, all The Cure fans around the world who came to our Lost World shows and enjoyed our Lost World music. Without you, none of this would be possible.”
The wins mark a long-awaited milestone for the English band, which formed in the mid 1970s and went on to become one of the most influential acts in alternative music history. Despite decades of critical acclaim, commercial success, and genre-defining albums, The Cure had never previously won a Grammy. They were previously nominated twice for Best Alternative Music Album; once in 1993 for Wish and once in 2001 for Bloodflowers.

“Alone,” which earned Best Alternative Music Performance, was released in September 2024 as the lead single from Songs of a Lost World. The track was written by frontman Robert Smith after he rediscovered the Ernest Dowson poem “Dregs,” drawing from its imagery and themes. Critics praised the song’s sweeping atmosphere, extended instrumental opening, and Smith’s vocal performance, with many noting its focus on mortality and environmental concerns.
The album Songs of a Lost World—The Cure’s fourteenth studio release—arrived on November 1, 2024, just one day after Halloween, at Smith’s request. It was the band’s first album of new material in 16 years, following 2008’s 4:13 Dream, and the first since 1985’s The Head on the Door to feature songs composed solely by Smith.

The comeback record was met with widespread acclaim and significant commercial success. It became The Cure’s first No. 1 album in the U.K. since Wish in 1992 and topped charts across Europe. At one point, it reportedly outsold the rest of the U.K. Top 10 combined, cementing its status as one of 2024’s most successful releases.
The Grammy wins cap off a remarkable late-career resurgence for a band that has continually evolved while maintaining a fiercely loyal global fanbase. After 50 years, The Cure’s influence—and now their Grammy recognition—has finally come full circle.

Never Combine These 2 ‘Natural’ Supplements, Experts Warn
I don’t know about you, but when I think about supplements billed as "natural," I figure they're probably pretty harmless. If they're natural, combining them can't be a huge deal, right?
Not so fast, experts say. The word “natural” is often a marketing tactic that makes us think something is automatically “good” when it’s not that simple. The NIH puts it like this: “Natural doesn’t necessarily mean safer, or better.”
Part of the problem is that supplements aren't regulated in the same way as prescription medications. That means dosages can vary widely between brands, labels don’t always tell the full story and interactions aren’t always clearly spelled out for consumers. Many people assume that because they’re sold over the counter, supplements must be risk-free—but that’s not the case, especially when you start mixing them.
In fact, combining supplements that affect the brain, hormones or the liver can amplify their effects in unpredictable ways. This can lead to symptoms that range from mild (like headaches or dizziness) to more serious complications, depending on the person, the dose and how long the combination is used. Experts stress that it’s always smart to check with a healthcare provider or pharmacist before pairing supplements—even ones that seem gentle or familiar.
There's one combination in particular that should be avoided at all costs. For more insight into what it is and safer alternatives, keep reading.

Generally, melatonin and St. John’s Wort are taken for different reasons—and taking them together is typically not a good idea.
“People commonly take St. John’s Wort as a more natural way to help with anxiety, depression and to lower blood glucose levels,” says Shelley Balls, MDA, RDN, LDN, a registered dietitian and nutritionist for Flawless Bloom. “They take melatonin to improve their sleep.”
However, as you can probably guess and may have experienced, those concerns can overlap.
“Someone might choose to take both St. John’s Wort and melatonin if they're looking for natural supplement support for both depression and sleep,” says Dr. Casey Greene, PharmD, IFMCP, a residency-trained clinical pharmacist, certified functional medicine practitioner and director of consultative services for Revelation Pharma. You may be familiar with this if your depression, for example, makes it harder to fall asleep.
Related: Going to Sleep at This Time Can Double Your Risk of Depression
While wanting to mix St. John's Wort and melatonin is understandable, it’s not in your best interest. Again, supplements—just like medication—can have side effects that lead to larger health and safety concerns.
“Combining St. John’s Wort and melatonin is not recommended because together they can lead to excessive drowsiness, impaired thinking and poor coordination, making activities of daily living risky,” Balls says. “For example, you may fall and injure yourself inside your house or get in a car accident.” Similar possible interactions to be aware of include dizziness, confusion, difficulty concentrating and impaired judgment.
Additionally, like with other medicinal combinations, one can mess with the absorption of the other. “St. John’s Wort is known to speed up the liver’s processing [of] many drug and supplement products, which could potentially make those other products clear faster and not work as well as intended,” Dr. Greene says. (Basically, what you’re taking isn’t even helping you.) “Your prescriber should always be made aware of not only all your prescription medications, but supplements as well.”
Related: Never Combine These 2 Supplements Without Checking With Your Doctor First, Experts Warn
Even taking the two at different times in the same day can cause problems, Balls continues, so spacing out the timing isn’t a safe loophole. Rather, she recommends simply not taking both, or at least talking to a pharmacist or doctor beforehand.
Alternatives for Melatonin and St. John’s WortKnowing the combination isn’t safe, let’s say you decide you need melatonin and throw out the St. John’s Wort. What else can help you regulate your emotions?
Supplements that are more predictable, studied and regulated for mood, Dr. Greene says, include rhodiola rosea, SAM-e and 5-HTP.
Lifestyle changes can help, too. Balls recommends regular exercise (anything you can stay consistent with will work), acupuncture and mindfulness exercises.
On the other hand, you might want to hold tight to your St. John’s Wort, sacrificing the melatonin. One way to modulate the sleep cycle without it, according to Dr. Greene, is to support healthy cortisol levels, keeping them lower at night. Eating whole foods, prioritizing rest, exercising regularly and focusing on social connection can all help. Other lifestyle adjustments to consider include eating dinner earlier in the evening and avoiding caffeine six to eight hours before bedtime.
Balls adds that it’s safer to get extra melatonin through what you eat. Some foods that help you sleep include cherries, milk, oats, fish, nuts and eggs. Additionally, studies have found that higher intakes of protein and fiber are associated with longer sleep time, falling asleep faster and more time spent in deep sleep.
And really, practices and habits like those are your safer bet, anyway—at least according to Dr. Greene. “I’d always recommend starting by optimizing lifestyle to best control mood, stress and sleep, then looking at the best supplements or medications for additional support as needed with an experienced healthcare professional,” he says.

Did Bruno Mars and His Longtime Girlfriend Jessica Caban Break Up?
Bruno Mars is certainly a romantic man. With ballads like "Versace on the Floor," “Leave the Door Open,” and most recently, the raunchy “Fat Juicy & Wet," he's repeatedly sung about his love life. Though Bruno Mars croons, in great detail, about his romantic life, the genre-bending artist, who has reigned in pop culture since the 2010s, is actually quite private about his real-life relationship.
Mars burst onto the music scene with his inaugural Doo-Wops & Hooligans, the record that catapulted him to the top of the charts. The album, which includes hits like "Just the Way You Are," "Grenade" and "Marry You," earned him several Grammys, and through it all, he's been dating model and actress Jessica Caban. But who is Caban?
Read on for everything we know about Bruno Mars' longtime girlfriend and muse.
Who is Bruno Mars dating? We don't know if Mars and Caban are still dating; neither has made a public statement. On one hand, the couple was always private, but on the other, there are rumors that the two have broken up and have yet to make the announcement official (more on that below).
What does Bruno Mars' girlfriend Jessica Caban do for work?Caban credits the one and only Jennifer Lopez with launching her modeling career, as she worked for her since-shuttered Sweetface brand back in the aughts.
Caban reminisced on the moment in a throwback tweet posted in 2012, which featured an old newspaper clipping of herself modeling Sweetface. "My 1st job modeling was for @JLO***couldn't think of a better way to start my career. Thanks Jennifer! #throwback," she wrote.
In 2008, Caban competed in and won the first season of the reality competition series Model Latina, in which contestants participate in runway and fashion challenges to win a contract with Q Management, a $10,000 cash prize and photo spread in Latina magazine. She later returned to the show as a guest judge.
In addition to Model Latina, Caban made her acting debut in Gina Rodriguez’s Jane the Virgin, where she played Sonia, an employee at The Marbella hotel who befriends Jane across five episodes. In 2017, she tweeted, "Sonia #thankful thank you @CWJaneTheVirgin & @JennieUrman for this opportunity!!" alongside a photo of herself in costume in front of her trailer.
According to a Rolling Stone article from 2016, Caban also designed a swimwear line, J. Marie, though the brand’s Instagram page has been inactive as of 2020.
View this post on Instagram How did Bruno Mars meet Jessica Caban?Per previous reporting, Caban and Mars first met at a New York City hotel restaurant on the Lower East Side and have known each other since before his first album dropped in 2010. She eventually moved from her hometown of Harlem to Los Angeles to be near the singer-songwriter. Mars first confirmed the relationship publicly in a 2013 Rolling Stone article, with the publication noting that he discussed the matter with “extreme reluctance.”
Related: Bruno Mars Announces First Tour in 9 Years
What is their relationship status? In the 2016 RS profile, Mars was asked if he was going to tie the knot with Caban, to which the musician replied, laughing: “Jesus! She’s my best friend. My rock. What’s wrong with that? We’re just happy.” He paused, adding, “Until she reads this.”
Though the two have rarely been seen out together in public, they’ve hit the Grammy Awards on three occasions—2014, 2016 and 2018; at the latter ceremony, Mars took home six accolades. During his acceptance speech for Record of the Year for 24K Magic, he gave a shoutout: "My lady, Jessica. I love you, baby. Thank you for being my rock and being by my side throughout this whole process."
While both Mars and Caban follow each other on social media, the rumor mill has posited that the couple has split up as of late 2024, as previous anniversary posts have been scrubbed from the latter’s Instagram and a January 2025 comment by Caban has hinted at the relationship’s closure, with her stating she is “cheering from afar” at Mars’ accomplishments. However, neither Mars nor Caban have publicly denied or confirmed the rumors.
Does Bruno Mars have any kids? No, Mars doesn't have any children with Caban or anyone else. The two do share a Rottweiler named Geronimo, as well as a reported $6.5 million mansion.
Which Bruno Mars songs are about Jessica Caban? In 2013, the “APT.” singer told Rolling Stone that he wrote “When I Was Your Man” about Caban, when he felt in danger of losing her.
“I’m not answering any questions about this song,” he said at first. “It’s too close to home.”
However, Caban and Mars didn't break up during that time: “It was a happy ending,” one half of superduo Silk Sonic said, while adding that the song is difficult to perform. “You’re pouring your guts out, and you record it. And you’re so proud of it. And then when you perform it, you know, you’re bringing up these emotions again. It’s just like bleeding!”
At another point in the article, he stated, quoting the song, “When you find that one, you buy them flowers and you hold their damn hand.” He joked later, switching the lyrics, as their relationship would become long-distance because of his tour at the time: “I should’ve Skyped you, and gave you a tweet.”
Legendary Producer Addresses Complicated Workplace With Iconic 60s Band: ‘It Was Hell’
Steve Lillywhite has enjoyed a long-standing career as a renowned English music producer. However, working alongside the Rolling Stones stands out as one of the more difficult periods of his life.
Lillywhite was brutally honest on the Word In Your Ear podcast, where he described his time producing the Stones' 18th studio album, Dirty Work. The recording process commenced in the earlier months of 1985 and lasted until August of the same year.
Unfortunately for Lillywhite, the production of Dirty Work occurred during a period of intense infighting between vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Because of this, Lillywhite was forced to act as a mediator to get the job done. In the interview with Mark Ellen, Lillywhite jokingly compared himself to American diplomat Henry Kissinger.
"I was Henry Kissinger. I worked with Keith and Mick. I worked with Keith and Mick when they were not talking to each other at all," Lillywhite said. "Literally, maybe one hour out of the whole time we were making the record, did they even talk to each other. It was Hell."
Lillywhite said the two band members were rarely in the same room during production, so decision-making became a grueling task. Most definitive decisions were made through an exhausting game of telephone.
"They literally weren't [in the same room]. I would have one come up to me and go 'blah blah blah blah blah,' and I would go and say to the other one, and he'd go 'tell him blah blah blah blah blah.'"

The feud between Jagger and Richards started over creative differences as the two members were searching for new directions for the band. The dispute was also due to Jagger launching his solo career. The release of his debut album, She's the Boss, was a major point of contention, as it made Richards question Jagger's commitment to the band.
While a tense time in his career, Lillywhite reflects on the recording process as an educational cornerstone. From his experience working with the Stones, he learned it is always good to have another pair of ears. An open-door policy is key.
“I learned this from the Rolling Stones, never stop people coming into the studio. Always have an open door policy.”

This Tragic 1974 No. 1 Pop-Rock Hit Was Inspired by a Heartbreaking True Story
Tragedy songs were commonplace in the early to mid-1970s. Who can forget Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods’ war-themed song, “Billy Don’t Be a Hero,” and David Geddes’teen tragedy hit “Run Joey Run?”
In 1974, Terry Jacks topped the charts with the gut-wrenching soft rock hit ”Seasons in the Sun.” The song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March of that year. It was Jacks’ only hit in the U.S.
The song was a rewrite of “Le Moribond” ("The Dying Man"), a song originally written by singer/songwriter Jacques Brel about a man heartbroken by his wife's infidelity. Brel’s song was translated from French and recorded as “Seasons in the Sun” by the Kingston Trio in 1961, per American Songwriter.
Nearly a decade later, Canadian singer Jacks rewrote part of the lyrics to include a heartbreaking real-life goodbye to a close friend who was dying from cancer. "Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die / When all the birds are singing in the sky,” is one of the saddest lyrics from the song.
A long historyIn an interview posted by Barry Scott of the Lost 45s, Jacks revealed that when he first heard the original version of the song, about a man who was “dying of a broken heart” because his wife had been unfaithful with his best friend, he was mesmerized by it.
“The song and a mystique to it,“ he said. “There was something about the song; it never left my mind. The song was translated into English by Rod McKuen. I didn’t like the translation, but there was still something about that song.”
Jacks originally suggested his version of "Seasons in the Sun" for his friends, the Beach Boys, but the song didn’t work out for them, so he recorded it himself, according to Stereogum.

Recording his version of “Seasons in the Sun” was a bittersweet experience for Jacks. In a 1996 interview shared by Mimre TV, Jacks recalled, “I rewrote that song after one of my best friends passed away, and I didn't feel right about singing the song and making money from it. So that's probably why I stopped doing live performances.”
Jacks noted that Brel’s song was more of a “romantic tongue-in-cheek French song” and that his was based on the real heartbreak of a friend’s final days.
”We were playing golf, and he told me that he didn't have very long to live,” Jacks said of his late friend. “And I didn't believe him, but he had acute leukemia, and 30 years ago, there wasn’t really a cure for that, and he died four months later. So I wrote the song about Roger and how it must have been, you know, how hard it was to tell his best friend and his father and his girlfriend that he was going to die.”

4 Zodiac Signs Welcome New Chapters: February 2-8, 2026
As we step into February, which happens to be one of the most astrologically intense months of all of 2026, you could be feeling fired up to take a stand and create positive change, or on the brink of burnout. That’s, at least in part, the effect of February beginning with a dramatic full moon in fixed fire sign Leo, which spotlights the need for greater leadership, courage, warmth, creative self-expression, and joy. And with so much more fiery, adrenaline-surging energy on the horizon, not only is it increasingly crucial to stay grounded, but it’s also taking more out of us to do just that. At the same time, during this week of February 2, a couple of key, change-bringing planets move into new positions: Uranus will end its retrograde in fixed earth sign Taurus, moving forward for the first time since September 2025, bringing with it out-of-the-blue changes and shocking breakthroughs. And Mercury will move into Pisces, the mutable water sign, causing intuition, emotions, empathy, and healing to overrule rational thought and communication.
While every sign has the chance to start anew this week, four signs in particular welcome new beginnings.

TaurusOn Tuesday, February 3, Uranus, the planet of radical change and revolution, will end its nearly five-month retrograde in your sign, ushering in the rebellious planet’s final trip forward in your first house of self that we’ll experience in our lifetimes. In turn, you have a huge opportunity from now until April 25 to shake up how you’re showing up in the world. In addition to makeovers that you still want to try, you’ll feel a surge of wanting to strike out on your own and break free of anything stale or mundane in your life that has been holding you back, whether that’s an approach to work, home life, or your closest one-on-one relationships. And on Sunday, February 8, your ruling planet, relationship-oriented Venus, in your tenth house of career will square off against Uranus, inviting you to innovate, brainstorm, and potentially take a stand that sends shockwaves through a creative project or bond with a higher-up or colleague.

LeoWith so much heavy-duty action happening in your seventh house of partnership the last few weeks, this moment may serve as a reminder that you deserve to fill your own cup as much as you fill others. That’s because, though the full moon in your sign falls on Sunday, ahead of the work week, it will have a reverberating effect you’ll feel through most of this week, amplifying your emotions, sensitivity, and desire to make self-care a top priority. This lunation brings to fruition whatever you kicked off around the July 24, 2025 new moon in Leo, but it also marks a beginning that goes hand-in-hand with a soaring need to protect your typically buoyant, action-oriented, passionate energy. And on Tuesday, when Uranus moves forward after a five-month retrograde in your tenth house of career, you can finally see thrilling shifts affect your professional path. Look back on any epiphanies, meditations, and realizations you've had about how you want to make your mark as well as your inner sense of authority to make the most of the external, electrifying energy that’s now in play.
OTHER: Your Power Word, Based on Your Birth Month
AquariusWith Sunday’s full moon vibes resonating through your week, you’ll be focused on what might be a dramatic culmination point within a one-on-one bond, given that this lunation activates your seventh house of partnership. Think back to the new moon in this same spot on July 24, 2025 for a sense of seeds you planted that could now be blooming or transforming in some way, then think about where you want to go from here. At the same time, your co-ruling planet, revolutionary Uranus, will end its five-month retrograde in your fourth house of home life, moving forward in this zone for the last time in our lifetimes. Until April 25, you can overhaul, shake up, and harness the power of breakthroughs and new directions tied to your inner, emotional life, relationships with family members, and physical home. On Thursday and Sunday, both Mercury and Venus, respectively, take turns squaring off against Uranus here, so steel yourself for impactful conversations and relationship changes that could ultimately help support this evolution.

PiscesThough we’re still solidly in Aquarius season territory, with a horde of planets lighting up your sleepy twelfth house of spirituality, Mercury, the fastest planet in our solar system, forges ahead into your sign and first house of self on Friday, February 6, cranking up your desire to speak your mind and assert yourself more in conversations with everyone from loved ones to colleagues. You can look forward to an uptick in confidence in your thoughts and how you’re expressing yourself from now until Mercury goes retrograde in your sign on February 25-26 (PT/ET). Capitalize on this shift by planning a presentation of a big picture vision you’ve been wanting to manifest or initiating an emotionally challenging but important conversation with someone special. With the moon in your ninth house of adventure on Saturday and Sunday, stepping out of your comfort zone and broadening your horizons can also prove truly fulfilling.

Bruno Mars' Net Worth Certainly Has That 24K Magic
When Bruno Mars sang “I wanna be a billionaire” back in 2010, he probably didn’t know how far his name—and voice—would really take him. Today, he’s one of the top-selling artists of all time, and not only does he get to travel and make music, but he's made plenty of money doing it.
Now it’s 2026, and Mars is nota billionaire yet—but he’s a lot closer than most of us. Here’s a look at his career, earning power and current net worth.
Related: Bruno Mars Announces First Tour in 9 Years
How did Bruno Mars get his start?Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez on Oct. 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents are both musicians—his dad a percussionist and his mom a vocalist. So it was natural for Mars to develop his talent for music, and by the time he was a toddler, he was performing as an Elvis Presley impersonator with his parents’ band.
By his teen years, Mars had taught himself how to play piano, guitar, bass and percussion, and after graduating high school he took the stage name Bruno Mars and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. “There’s something beautiful about being young, naive and uneducated...you’re just free to fly,” he later told CNBC Make It.
In 2004, he signed with the record company Motown, but ended up on the songwriting track rather than performing himself. Mars paired with Philip Lawrence—the duo called themselves the Smeezingtons—to write and produce songs for other artists. These artists included Brandy, Flo Rida, Cee Lo Green and more.
In 2010, Mars provided vocals for a few hits by other artists: “Nothin’ on You” with B.o.B and “Billionaire” with Travis McCoy. He also dropped his first solo EP and album, and the songs “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song” proved to be popular. “Just the Way You Are” also won him his first Grammy, and the rest is history.
What is Bruno Mars’s net worth in 2026?Bruno Mars has an estimated net worth of $175 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. A big contributor to his wealth is record sales. Mars has sold 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists ever. He’s also been performing in Las Vegas since 2016, which has certainly added a large sum to his bank account.
How much has Bruno Mars made from his Las Vegas residency?Although it’s hard to say exactly how much Mars has made from his years performing at Park MGM in Vegas, it’s been a very lucrative endeavor. Between 2016 and 2024, his residency reportedly grossed $124.5 million, or about $1.58 million per show. He wrapped up his most recent residency at Park MGM on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025.

How much does Bruno Mars make on tour?In addition to his Las Vegas residency, Mars has headlined multiple successful tours—the most well-known being his 24K Magic World Tour, from March 2017 to December 2018.
While reports vary on how much the tour grossed, one site claims it sold over 3.5 million tickets to make a total of $389.4 million. The most up-to-date data from Billboardestimated tour revenue at $240 million; but that was back in April 2018, well before the 24K Magic came to an end that December.
In any case, Mars made tens of millions from his 24K Magic World Tour. According to Forbes, between June 2017 and June 2018, he earned $100 million, much of which was likely tour revenue.
How much does Bruno Mars make per year?Mars commands a high salary. Like many entertainers, it varies depending on the year and what he’s got going on professionally. During a touring year, like 2017-2018, he can make as much as $100 million, per Forbesdata. But the following year, from mid-2018 to mid-2019, he made about $51.5 million—still nothing to sniff at.
Bruno Mars’ real estateBruno Mars has owned homes in both Honolulu, Hawaii, and Los Angeles, California. But where he currently calls “home” is his villa in Studio City, Los Angeles—a 9,000-square-foot mansion that sits on over two acres of land. The property is located in scenic Fryman Canyon and has views of the canyon, city and mountains. He bought it in 2014 for $6.5 million.
Iconic '70s Rock Band Launches Reunion Tour After 23 Years
The Guess Who is back after 23 years for a Canadian tour. Announced in late 2025 via Instagram, the band is set to cover over a dozen Canadian cities between late January and August.
The 2026 reunion tour is notable for several reasons. For starters, it marks the first time original guitarist Randy Bachman and pianist Burton Cummings have played together since 2003. It is also the first time the group will perform after winning back the rights to their name.
In 2023, Bachman and Cummings launched a legal battle against original bassist Jim Kale and drummer Garry Peterson for false advertising. The lawsuit claimed Kale and Peterson were technically working as a "cover band" following the cancellation of performing rights to several Guess Who hits by Cummings.

Susan Lucci Celebrates 'Beyond the Gates' as a Win for Daytime TV
Daytime Emmy Winner Susan Lucci may not currently be appearing on a soap opera, with All My Children currently off the air, but that hasn’t stopped the fan-favorite actress from keeping a close eye on the genre she called home for more than 40 years.
While speaking with TV Insider about her upcoming memoir, La Lucci, the actress also addressed the possibility of an All My Children reboot by her former co-stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, while reflecting upon her career and life.
During the conversation Lucci was asked about her thoughts on CBS’ newest soap opera Beyond the Gates. “I think it’s fabulous,” she said.
Lucci also reiterated her belief that ABC made a mistake by canceling All My Children, saying, “I think it was a mistake to let [All My Children] go off the air, to let the genre start to fade on the air because the audience loves the storytelling.”
Lucci praised CBS’ commitment to the genre, noting, “The stories are so relatable. I really applaud CBS for making a commitment to a brand-new soap.”
She also singled out executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers, adding, “She was our executive producer for a long time. She was a wonderful producer. I really applaud her.”
Carruthers was executive producer for All My Children from October of 2003 until the series finale in September of 2011.
Lucci added that she has watched the series when she can, saying, “I try to catch episodes when I can, and I think it’s terrific storytelling, wonderful characters, and beautifully cast.”
She continued, “They are in their second season, and my congratulations to them and also to the audience.

The Difference Between Bread Flour and All-Purpose Flour (And Why It Really Matters), According to Pastry Chefs
Wintertime has a way of making everyone get in touch with their inner baking champion. After all, we have more time on our hands when it's time for cold-weather hibernation and there's no shortage of social media recipes flooding our feeds to inspire us to fire up the oven and make some dough. Whether it's perfectly scored sourdough boules (à la our pal, T Swift), fluffy cinnamon rolls or serious works of focaccia art, it seems like everyone's getting creative with carbs.
But somewhere in between measuring cups, stand mixers and proofing baskets, it becomes surprisingly easy to overlook just how much the type of flour you use in your recipe can shape the final result.
I've stood many times in the baking aisle at the grocery store, looking at rows of all-purpose flour, bleached flour, unbleached flour, cake flour, pastry flour, bread flour...the list goes on. And usually a recipe will specify which kind you need, but sometimes when I only have one type on hand and an itch to make a certain recipe, I've wondered: Would a simple swap be that bad?
As it turns out, playing fast and loose with the type of flour, including subbing all-purpose flour for bread flour (or vice versa), can make or break your bake—depending on what you're making. The difference comes down to protein, gluten and structure. The flour you use impacts how your baked goods rise and the texture of your finished bread or pastry.
To get more info and intel on bread flour vs. all-purpose flour, we quizzed two pastry chefs who spend their lives thinking about this stuff: Rochelle Cooper of The Duck & The Peach, La Collina and The Wells in Washington, D.C., and Abigail Navis-Black of Henrietta Red in Nashville. Their insight and advice will help make you a better, more informed baker.

"The biggest difference is protein content," Cooper tells Parade. That protein shows up as two key players: "glutenin (strength) and gliadin (stretch)." Together, they form gluten, which is the backbone of bread.
"Since protein from flour is typically the primary structural ingredient besides eggs in baked items, it is important to select the right flour for the job…most of the time," she explains. Breads like ciabatta, sourdough and pizza need the strength from bread flour to rise and hold their shape, while cakes, cookies and pastries benefit from all-purpose flour, which is lower in protein."

What Is Bread Flour?Yiming Chen via Getty Images
Bread flour is formulated to do one thing exceptionally well: build strong, resilient dough. "Bread flour's higher protein content gives breads the strength they need," explains Cooper.
Protein is what allows dough to form gluten. "The protein likes to stick together, which helps build the gluten structure. A better gluten structure means a better rise, and a better crumb [the inner structure of your baked good]," says Navis-Black.
Cooper also notes that many whole-grain flours, which might not technically be labeled bread flour, are great for making bread because of their high protein content. "That opens up the door for a plethora of flavors since the bran is included in whole grain, but excluded in AP flour," she tells Parade. That’s why breads made with heritage grains or stone-milled flours often have a deeper, nuttier flavor.

What Is All-Purpose Flour?Anna Mardo via Getty Images
All-purpose flour, as the name suggests, is a kitchen workhorse. It sits right in the middle of the protein spectrum, making it versatile enough for everything from pancakes to pie dough.
"All-purpose flour is just that, a middle-of-the-road flour that is used for most things that need flour but don’t require the intense strength and elasticity that bread flour provides,” Cooper shares. "Cookies, most cakes, pie doughs, biscuits [and] pancakes" are all recipes that typically call for all-purpose flour.
You may have also noticed at the grocery store that there's more than one option when it comes to all-purpose flour. We asked Cooper and Navis-Black to take us through some of the more common variations you might see.
Bleached flourBleaching was originally about looks. "Wheat naturally has some color, so people started bleaching flour in the early 1900s for aesthetic reasons," Navis-Black explains. But there’s a trade-off: "The process of bleaching the flour also messes with the proteins, so in my opinion, the sacrifice isn’t worth it for a slightly whiter product."
Enriched flourWhen flour is refined, the bran and germ are removed, along with the nutrients. So with enriched flour, some nutrients, like iron and vitamins, are added back in. Navis-Black adds that bromate is sometimes used, too: "It helps dough mix faster, rise better and strengthens it...bromate is banned in many countries for being a carcinogen, so also not worth it in my book!"
It's important to note that not all enriched flour contains bromate. At the grocery store, look for potassium bromate in the ingredients list or the term "bromated flour" on the bag.
Self-rising flour is all-purpose flour that comes pre-mixed with leavening (often baking powder) and salt. Cooper is blunt when it comes to this one: "Not sure why you would want that extra boost unless the recipe specifically requires it, but I think you would struggle to find this in any pastry chef's cabinet for sure!"
Navis-Black sees its appeal for some home bakers, but agrees it limits control: “It's not very useful for an avid baker who would like to control those amounts."

Can You Substitute Bread Flour for All-Purpose Flour (And Vice Versa)? The pros say you can sometimes swap one kind of flour for another, but tread carefully with your kitchen experiments.
"I wouldn’t suggest using bread flour in place of AP, because in something like a cake, for example, it would be pretty dense and tough," says Navis-Black. "Developing a strong gluten structure is the opposite of what you need for a fluffy cake."
And what about using all-purpose flour when a recipe calls for bread flour? While you can make bread with all-purpose flour, Navis-Black notes that "the structure won’t be as developed, so it may be best used for an enriched bread like brioche, where there are other ingredients, like eggs, at play that contribute to the structure and rise."
Cooper adds that when making pizza, she's not in favor of using all-purpose flour instead of bread flour. "Try to make pizza with AP flour instead, and you might as well get delivery," she says.
Do keep in mind that, when it comes to pizza, the type of flour you use depends on the type of crust you're making. A thicker crust with a lot of chew benefits from bread flour, some thin and crispy crust recipes might call for all-purpose flour and some Neapolitan-style pizza folks insist on OO flour, which is another conversation altogether.
So what's a home cook to do? A good rule of thumb is to do your best to use whatever flour the recipe you're using calls for. The person who created the recipe made the dish using that ingredient and has chosen it for a reason, whether it's bread flour for a chewy, hearty texture or all-purpose flour for a lighter, airy bake.

Why 'Bridgerton' Didn't Give Benedict a 'Glow Up' for Season 4
Bridgerton's face and makeup have become more elaborate and fantastical as the series continues. The leading men are more understated, but their styling is also direct focus. Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) had longer hair and sideburns in season 1. Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) had longer hair and sometimes a scruffy beard. The brothers got better haircuts when they became leading men. However, season 4 starts with Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) looking the same.
Benedict Bridgerton's Change Will Be Internal View this post on InstagramBenedict always had shorter hair and no facial hair. The character never lacked attention from women and men. Thompson, 37, told USA Today why his character didn't get a makeover for his season. "Benedict comes back and he's exactly the same, and he's sort of stuck a little bit," he said.
His first scene is his mother, Violet (Ruth Gemmell), finding two women in his bedroom. She later calls him a "rake," which surprised him. The scene is similar to Benedict's time, having fun away from high society. He also had relations with a couple in season 3 until they ended it. The change in Benedict will be internal this season. He doesn't typically get emotionally invested in relationships.
That changes when he meets a mysterious woman in silver at a masquerade ball in the first episode. Sophie, played by Yerin Ha, is a maid who snuck into the costume affair. The first four episodes of season 4 were released on January 29 on Netflix. Part 2 includes three episodes, which will be released on February 26.
The teaser for part 2 doesn't reveal a new look for Benedict. However, he keeps pursuing Sophie despite her low rank. The maid considers distancing herself from him by taking a job in a different household.
Billie Eilish's Boyfriends, Relationships, Dating History
Billie Eilishdoesn't want to make her private life a commodity for public consumption.
"I definitely want to keep [relationships] private," she said in a September 2020 interview with Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. "I've had relationships and kept them private, and even the ones that I’ve had, with the tiny amount that I’ve let the world see, I regret. I think about the people that have made their relationships public, and then they break up, and it’s like, ‘What if it goes bad?’"
Most recently, she's been seen spending a lot of time with her rumored boyfriend, Nat Wolff—though she does try to keep her dating life quiet. In October 2024, she told Vogue with some frustration, "... I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again."
Here are all of Billie Eilish's relationships and her dating history that we know of—including the Wolff brother she was recently spotted kissing.

Billie Eilish is rumored to be in a relationship with actor and musician Nat Wolff. In June 2025, the pair were seen kissing while hanging out in Venice, Italy, per People. They first sparked dating rumors in March when they were spotted leaving the iHeartRadio Music Awards together and then bar-hopping in New York City the following week, according to Page Six.
Nat and his brother Alex Wolff opened for Eilish on her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour in 2024. That same year, Nat appeared in Eilish's self-directed music video for "Chihiro."

She told Vanity Fair that November, "Yeah, I do [have a boyfriend now], and it's really cool, and I'm really excited, and I'm really happy about it. I managed to get my way to a point in my life … where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest f--king f--ker alive, but pulled his ass ... Are you kidding me? Can we just—round of applause for me. Thank you! Jesse Rutherford, everyone! I pulled his ass—all me! I did that shit. I locked that motherf--ker down.”

They even walked the red carpet twice (a first for Eilish and a partner), but confirmed in May 2023 that they'd split after roughly seven months together. She later told fans that she and Rutherford were "very very good friends only" and that he was her "homie forever."
She's had other relationships as well.
Eilish was first linked to actor Matthew Tyler Vorce in April 2021, when he was 29 to her 19. Neither of them spoke directly about dating one another, but when they apparently split in May 2022, Vorce wrote in an Instagram Story (via Harper's Bazaar), "Nobody cheated on anyone. Relationships end. Simple as that. Creating rumors and LYING on the internet is dangerous."

"I just wasn't happy. I didn't want the same things he wanted and I don't think that's fair for him," Eilish explained in the film. "I don't think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn't care less about. I don't think that's fair to you. I don't think that's fair to him. There was just a lack of effort. I was literally like, 'Dude, you don't have enough love to love yourself, so you can't love me, dude. And you don't. You think you do.'"
She added, "I do love him, though, which made it harder. I’m not over him; I didn't find someone else. I didn't stop having love for him. I just spent time away from him for a little bit, and I was like, 'Wow! I’m missing so much because I'm worried about you all the time, and I don't want what you want, and you don’t want what I want.' I don't want to fix him. I can't fix him. I tried."

The smooch came right around the time she confirmed to Rolling Stonethat she had been attracted to and in love with women for most of her life.
"I've been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn't understand—until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina," Eilish said.

Legendary Chef’s Son Becomes James Beard Award Semifinalist at Just 22
E.J. Lagasse, the 22-year-old son of the legendary Chef Emeril Lagasse, has been named a James Beard Award semifinalist, earning national recognition just three years after taking over his father’s flagship restaurant in New Orleans.
Lagasse is among the semifinalists in the Emerging Chef category, which honors rising culinary talent across the country. The nomination places him alongside chefs from major food cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston. It is a notable achievement for a chef who officially stepped into the role at just 19.
E.J. Lagasse became chef and co-owner of Emeril’s, the family’s iconic Warehouse District restaurant, in 2023. Shortly after taking the reins, he closed the restaurant for extensive renovations, reopening it as a refined tasting-menu destination that reimagines classic New Orleans flavors through a modern fine-dining lens.

That transformation has already drawn critical acclaim. In a recent review, The New York Times awarded the restaurant three stars, praising Lagasse’s vision, execution, and ability to honor his father’s culinary legacy without being constrained by it. The paper described the experience as lavish, exuberant, and deeply rooted in the traditions of New Orleans cooking, from elevated versions of longtime menu staples to playful, highly technical presentations.
Lagasse’s path to the kitchen began early. He has said he knew he wanted to become a chef by the age of 9, after celebrating his mother’s birthday with a family dinner at Café Boulud in New York. Growing up around his father’s restaurants gave him early exposure to professional kitchens, and he later trained at Le Bernardin as a teenager before formally stepping into leadership at Emeril’s.

While the Lagasse name is synonymous with food television and restaurant empires, E.J. Lagasse’s work has focused squarely on the plate. The current tasting menu at Emeril’s is the restaurant’s sole offering, featuring a progression of courses punctuated by elaborate amuse-bouches, tableside presentations, and nods to classic dishes from the restaurant’s original 1990 opening.
The James Beard Awards, often described as the Oscars of the food world, are among the most prestigious honors in American dining. Semifinalists represent the first major cut in the awards process, with nominees and winners announced later in the year. The Emerging Chef category specifically highlights chefs who have shown exceptional promise early in their careers.

Lagasse is one of 20 semifinalists nationwide in the category, joining chefs from restaurants such as Komal in Los Angeles, Marcus DC in Washington, D.C., and Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio in Chicago.
Emeril Lagasse, whose career includes dozens of restaurants, television shows, and cookbooks, has largely stepped back from the day-to-day operations of Emeril’s. His son’s leadership marks a new chapter for the restaurant, one that blends the exuberance of classic fine dining with contemporary technique and ambition.
At just 22, E.J. Lagasse’s James Beard recognition signals that the next generation of the Lagasse family isn’t simply inheriting a legacy—it is actively reshaping it.
