Consumer Prices Officially Soared Past This Grim Benchmark, and It's Not Just Gas and Groceries

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:40pm

A lot of the news lately has centered on rising gas and grocery prices, but overall consumer prices are up across the board. Inflation is so out of control that average Americans are now paying more than they were in 2023 when prices soared after the pandemic.

Inflation Outpaced Projections

The Federal Reserve had a goalof keeping inflation at 2%, but recent reports show the actual rate was closer to 2.8%, while wages fell 0.5% over the past month and 0.3% so far this year. In plain language, that means that the cost of nearly everything is skyrocketing while wages are actually declining.

“Inflation is the key drag on the U.S. economy now,” said Heather Long, chief economist at Navy Federal Credit Union. “This is hurting Americans. There is a real financial squeeze underway. For the first time in three years, inflation is eating up all wage gains. This is a setback for middle-class and lower-income households, and they know it.”

What's The Main Cause?

The war in Iran is driving up prices from the noticeable fuel charges at the pump to the cost of a mortgage. Oil is trading at over $100 a barrel, and the national average for gas is $4.50 per gallon, according to AAA. Only one state, Oklahoma, has an average gas price under $4.00 per gallon, while California has the highest at about $6.15 per gallon.

But while gas and groceries are getting all the press, the cost of everything is increasing. Nearly 50% of young Americans have stopped dating altogether, citing it as an expense they simply can’t afford. Even the very stable real estate market in California has taken a hit, with housing prices falling nearly 11% in certain parts of the state.

Looking Ahead

Given the rate of inflation, it’s unlikely the Fed will lower interest rates any time soon. This is bad news for everything from new car sales to home buying. More Americans are holding onto their money rather than making purchases. Popular Reddit threads feature everyday people sharing their most frugal tips for getting by without spending a dime.

Given that the war in Iran is driving global prices, it’s unlikely we’ll see a reprieve any time soon. With the actual inflation numbers outpacing the Fed’s goals, all we can do is make smart money moves until something finally gives.

Why 'SNL' Censored This '80s Comedian 36 Years Ago

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:36pm

Over the 51 seasons that Saturday Night Live has been on the air, NBC has used a 7-second time delay only three times. The first was, unsurprisingly, when Richard Pryor hosted during Season 1. The second time was during Season 12, when Sam Kinison hosted. And the third and last time was 36 years ago, when controversial comedian Andrew Dice Clay hosted.

Clay was known for his divisive and offensive comedy, which often focused on minorities, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. His appearance did a lot more than cause the delay to be used, though. Along with Sinead O'Connor refusing to appear as the musical guest, it remains the only episode in which a member of the SNL cast walked out in protest.

Nora Dunn was on the sketch comedy series for five seasons, but the one that Clay was on became her last. "It's not because he's controversial, and it's not because he says bad words on the stage," she told Terry Gross on Fresh Air the following year. "It's definitely the content of the material and the hatefulness of it, and the anti-humanistic quality of that kind of comedy."

Given the range of talent that has appeared on the show, the fact that 1990 was the last time a delay was used is surprising to many -- especially those who remember Martin Lawrence's monologue four years later. The actor and comedian spent most of it discussing Lorena Bobbitt before segueing into explicit comments about women's lack of cleanliness.

Lawrence's episode was removed from reruns, and even SNL's YouTube page interrupts his monologue scene before his offensive comments air. Instead, a caption appears on the screen that reads: "At this point in his monologue, Martin begins a commentary on what he considers the decline in standards of feminine hygiene in this country. Although we at Saturday Night Live take no stand on this issue one or the other, network policy prevents us from re-broadcasting this portion of his remarks."

The caption continues on in an obvious tongue-in-cheek manner, wrapping up with the statement, "It was a frank and lively presentation, and nearly cost us all our jobs. We now return to the conclusion of Martin's monologue."

So why was NBC ready to censor Clay and not Lawrence? The most likely reason is that everyone was aware of what kind of comedy Clay was known for. Lawrence, on the other hand, took everyone by surprise when he launched into a tirade about women's bathing habits.

2006 Hit Series Ranked Among ‘Best TV Shows of All Time’

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:32pm

“Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” was the mantra that helped Friday Night Lights captivate audiences and made the fictional Dillon High Panthers so memorable. Now, 20 years after its debut, the series has garnered lasting critical and fan acclaim on NBC.

The show has earned its place amongst the greatest TV shows of all time, according to The Rolling Stone, alongside critically acclaimed hits such as AMC’s Breaking Bad, HBO’s The Sopranos, and CBS’s All in the Family.

Friday Night Lights, inspired by H. G. Bissinger's 1990 book, offered viewers a glimpse into life in a small town in rural West Texas.

The series was told through the lens of football coach Eric Taylor, portrayed by Kyle Chandler, and his wife, principal Tami Taylor, played by Connie Britton, and explored the challenges of balancing personal and professional lives in the town.

The series was known for tackling a range of memorable social issues. Most notable were conversations within the Taylor family regarding traditional family values, to later controversial stories revolving around abortion and substance abuse.

The series navigated these issues with realism and respect. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune back in 2007, Scott Porter, who played quarterback Jason Street, echoed this by sharing that one of the unique things about the series was that “Everything’s real, and all the relationships [make you] feel like you know these people.”

Unlike traditional television series that are filmed on soundstages, Friday Night Lights opted to film on location in Austin and Pflugerville, Texas. In real buildings and locations around those towns.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

The series featured notable cast members, including Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemons, Zach Gilford, Jurnee Smollett, and Michael B. Jordan.

Ultimately, Friday Night Lights lasted for five seasons, running from October 3, 2006, until the series finale on February 8, 2008, with a total of 76 episodes.

In 2024, Peacock announced development of a reboot, described by creator Peter Berg as "a complete reinvention of the show," featuring a new cast and focusing on football. The intent is not to revisit the original characters, but to tell a new story within the Friday Night Lights universe.

Friday Night Lights is currently streaming on Paramount+.

1991 No. 1 Hit Was Based on a Comment Paul McCartney Made About John Lennon

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:20pm

With John Lennonand Paul McCartney's prolific music careers, it's an understatement to say these members of The Beatleshave been influential. However, some Beatles fans might not be aware that a comment by McCartney in regards to Lennon, who died in 1980 at the age of 40, spurred the idea for a '90s hit.

American Songwriter reported that Roxette's 1991 song "Joyride" came about because of a quote from McCartney regarding his and Lennon's working relationship. While speaking to the Swedish newspaper,Dagens Industri, in 2021, Roxette's Per Gessle said he penned the song after he saw a McCartney interview.

“I had read an interview with Paul McCartney where he said: ‘Writing songs with John Lennon was always a long joyride.' I liked the word, I didn’t realize then what joyride actually meant: stealing a car, crashing it, and leaving it standing," said Gessle during the 2021 interview, per American Songwriter.

American Songwriter reported that "Joyride," off the Joyride record, secured Billboard Hot 100's no. 1 spot in May 1991.

In a 2020 interview, Gessle said that the version of the song that hit number one in the United States is different than what he and his late bandmate, Marie Fredriksson, originally recorded.

"When you go to the States, they always want to interfere with your music. They want to [make] their own mixes for radio, for a dance radio, or for top 40 radio, whatever," said the musician, now 67.

Gessle said in order to make the song a radio hit in America, producer and engineer Brian Malouf "was hired to do a new mix." He said that while he thinks Malouf "did an excellent job" with his mix of "Joyride," his newer version sounded like a typical '90s pop song.

"Since our song, our version, was recorded in Stockholm, made by Swedish musicians, we sounded a little bit sort of odd, which I thought was nice at the time. But listening to it now, I understand why the American record company wanted to go with his version," said Gessle in the 2020 interview.

Amazon’s 'Incredibly Convenient' $150 Portable Solar Panel Is a 'Lifesaver' During Power Outages and Summer Trips

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:17pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

There are a few things people tend to underestimate until they need them: a flashlight with working batteries, extra blankets during a storm, and a reliable source of backup power when there's not an outlet nearby. The need for the latter becomes especially obvious during summer travel season, when camping weekends, RV road trips, beach days, and boating excursions make phones, fans, and lights all-day essentials. While gas generators have traditionally filled that role, they also come with noise, fumes, and ongoing fuel costs

Solar panels offer a quieter, lower-maintenance alternative that's increasingly practical for both outdoor adventures and emergency prep. Amazon is currently offering the EBL 200-Watt Portable Solar Panel for just $150. Down 38% from its usual $240 price, this deal makes the transition to solar feel more approachable ahead of summer travel and hurricane season.

One of the biggest selling points of this portable setup is its efficiency, especially for people who are new to solar power and want something straightforward but effective. The 200-watt panel is built with monocrystalline silicon cells, which are considered one of the more efficient types of solar technology because they convert a larger percentage of sunlight into usable electricity.

This panel reaches a conversion rate of up to 23.5%, which means it’s able to capture and use sunlight more effectively than many standard polycrystalline panels that typically operate closer to 17%. In simpler terms, you get more charging power from the same amount of sunlight, which can make a noticeable difference when you’re trying to keep devices, portable batteries, or small appliances running throughout the day.

The design is also built with portability and durability in mind. It uses upgraded polyethylene terephthalate lamination technology — a protective layered coating that helps shield the panel from water exposure, wear, and outdoor conditions — along with a rugged Oxford cloth exterior for added durability during travel and storage.

Folded down, the panel measures about 25 inches by 21 inches and is just over 2 inches thick, making it compact enough to store in a car, RV, or boat compartment. Unfolded, it expands to over 94 inches long to maximize sunlight exposure while charging. At just under 18 pounds, it stays portable enough to carry between campsites or reposition throughout the day.

The panel is also certified by the Federal Communications Commission, Restriction of Hazardous Substances standards, and Electromagnetic Compatibility testing, which means it meets established guidelines for electronics safety and reduced hazardous materials. Built-in short-circuit and surge protection technology add another layer of safety by helping protect both the panel and connected devices from electrical damage.

Shoppers praised this “durable” and “weatherproof” panel in the reviews section, calling it “a lifesaver when the power goes out.” One shopper wrote, “The foldable design is incredibly convenient. It's easy to pack up and take with me on the go, and it doesn't take up much space in my car.”

Brooke Shields Finally Revealed Her Funny Side on This Sitcom — Why It Took So Long

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:08pm

She may be known as a former teen "sex symbol," but Brooke Shields says she's always loved sketch comedy and playing for laughs.

In a new interview with AARP's Movies for Grownups, the iconic model, 60, opens up about her decorated career, including the most-watched episode of Friends.

In the sitcom, fans will recall Shields playing an unhinged stalker of Matt LeBlanc's Joey, at one point reaching across a table, taking his hand — and running her tongue all over it.

View this post on Instagram

“Believe me, I would’ve done it a couple of decades before,” Shields told AARP regarding her bold comedic turn. “But that wasn’t what people wanted of me. They wanted me to be this, I don’t know, sex symbol... and that was fine.”

Earlier this year, the Endless Love star paid tribute on social media to Catherine O’Hara, who passed away in January. One of O’Hara’s most memorable bits on SCTV in the 1980s was a parody of Shields, something the actress hadn’t even seen when the two first crossed paths years ago, AARP reports.

Check out Shields' Instagram post from January 30 below.

View this post on Instagram

“I ran into her in church,” Shields told the magazine. “And I said, ‘I’m sorry, I just have to say I really, really like you. Peace be with you.'"

After one of Shields’ daughters caught O’Hara’s impression, she told her mom, “I think she was making fun of you!”

“She wasn’t being mean,” Shields says of O’Hara. “It was a good imitation. And honestly, that’s what I presented as back then. I was flitty. I didn’t have much gravitas.”

And now, Shields reports that she's honored" because, quite simply, "it was good comedy.”

Looking ahead, the busy actress is continuing with a comedic edge in her new mystery series You're Killing Me, premiering May 18 on Acorn TV.

'Scared' Christina Applegate Received Important Advice From Jamie-Lynn Sigler After Her MS Diagnosis

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:05pm

When Christina Applegate was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she was looking for someone who understood what life with the disabling disease actually looked like. That person was Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

During the Tuesday, May 12 episode of Not Skinny But Not Fat, the former Sopranos star opened up about how her friendship with Applegate began after the actress was diagnosed in 2021 while filming Dead to Me.

“Initially our conversations were like…this is what you should ask for [on set]…ask for your trailer closer…do this before you work to loosen up your legs,” Sigler, 44, explained. “Like I was just trying to give her like tips and tricks of like how to work with MS basically on a film set.”

But according to Sigler, those chats quickly turned into a meaningful friendship.

“She would just like call me late at night or early in the morning and just when she's scared, or she's feeling things,” she shared. “And next thing you know, it's like two hours later, and we're talking about Bravo and our children and peeing our pants and all these things.”

Sigler also credited Applegate, 54, with helping her become more open about her own diagnosis after years of hiding it. “She said to me one day, she's like, ‘We should do a podcast,’” Sigler recalled about the inception of their 2024 podcast, MeSsy. “‘Like I'm ready. Are you ready to just not give a sh*t and just put it all out there?’”

The conversation comes shortly after reports surfaced that Applegate had recently been hospitalized in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, the actress was admitted in late March, though the exact reason for the hospitalization was not disclosed. It also remains unclear whether the reported stay was related to her MS diagnosis.

Applegate later reassured fans in an Instagram post shared April 20, writing, “Health Issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better everyday.”

The Anchorman star recently gave Sigler her own shoutout after the release of Sigler’s memoir And So It Is..., earlier this month. “Congratulations on your book release my friend! You’re my absolute hero! Your support for women is unmatched. Me love you long time,” Applegate wrote on her Instagram, along with a photo of the book.

1972 Hit Drama Film Named Among ‘Best Movies of the ’70s’ Still Holds a Perfect Rating

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 3:00pm

A 1972 drama film is once again gaining the spotlight after earning widespread recognition.

Fat City, directed by the renowned filmmaker John Huston, continues to solidify its legacy as one of the era’s most enduring cinematic achievements.

More than fifty years after its release, the sports drama film holds a rare rating, a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The popular review aggregation website, which rates movies and TV shows based on critics’ reviews, gave Fat City a flawless 100 percent Tomatometer score, meaning nearly every critic review for the film was positive.

Movie experts pointed out the “splendid cinematography” of the movie that perfectly matched the “outstanding acting” of the cast.

Film commentators also expressed how authentic and “realistic” Fat City feels, given that Hollywood movies are often seen as exaggerated or overly fictionalized.

Apart from this, critics also named the sports drama movie “one of the best movies of the ‘70s.”

What made the movie stand out was that it focuses on the unglamorous and raw side of a sports drama.

Stacy Keach, as boxer Billy Tully in a promotional portrait for 'Fat City', directed by John Huston, 1972.

Instead of a traditional triumphant narrative, it centers on failure, aging and the quiet struggle to survive.

Stacy Keach, who played a lead role, described the movie as nothing but a fairy tale.

“It was not a Cinderella story,” he shared in an interview as cited by the American Masters Digital Archive. “It was about boxers who started at point A and ended at point A. They didn’t go anywhere.”

Based on the 1969 novel of the same name, the story is deeply rooted in the real-life experiences of the writer Leonard Gardner, who was also an amateur boxer and based the character on a fighter he knew named Johnny Miller.

In Fat City, the protagonist Billy Tully, played by Stacy Keach, was a 29-year-old broken-down boxer who attempted to make a comeback amid his struggle with alcoholism and a chaotic relationship with Oma, played by Susan Tyrrell.

With his hope of continuing his boxing career, he also mentors 18-year-old amateur boxer Ernie Munger, portrayed by Jeff Bridges.

Despite not having achieved blockbuster status at the time of its theatrical release, Fat City received significant accolades in Hollywood after being nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the late Susan Tyrrell and Stacy Keach winning Best Actor at the Kansas City Film Critics Circle.

He also shared the honor with fellow actor Marlon Brando for his role in The Godfather.

1958 Leading Man Won Best Actor Academy Award for just 20 Minutes of Screen Time

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:56pm

With most "Best Actor" performances clocking in at a minimum of 37 minutes, the record held by David Niven for his 1958 performance in the film Separate Tables likely won't be beaten any time soon.

Appearing in the film as Major David Angus Pollock, Niven appears in just over 23 minutes of the movie, or less than a quarter of the entire run time. Niven won the Best Actor trophy at the 31st Annual Academy Awards, one of two accolades received by Separate Tables that night. The performance by Wendy Hiller in the film also took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

Separate Tables is an ensemble cast drama compiled from the scripts of two plays. The star-studded cast play lonely and dysfunctional residents of a hotel in Bournemouth, England. The beautiful Ann Shankland (played by Rita Hayworth) arrives to the hotel to see her alcoholic ex-husband John Malcolm (played by Burt Lancaster), who is hiding his engagement to Pat Cooper (played by Wendy Hiller). Meanwhile, the snooty Mrs. Railton-Bell (played by Gladys Cooper) discovers that Major Pollock (played by Niven) isn't who he says he is, which becomes a problem for her and her daughter (played by Deborah Kerr) since the latter is desperately in love with the Major.

Despite being stacked with Hollywood stars in its cast, Separate Tables was released to mixed reviews from audiences and critics. The movie was a true drama, and viewers struggled to consider it truly entertaining. At the time The Hollywood Reportersaid it was for those with "finer, more selective taste [because] the film qualifies itself to the exacting literary requirements of important tragedy." However, Variety said the movie was "bolstered by some of the best performances of the year."

Even though he only appeared for such a short time in the movie, the role proved to be a record holder in more ways than one for Niven. To this day, for the win, he is still the only person to win a major acting award at the Academy Awards while also acting as the show's host.

Legendary Rock Band Adds 40 More Dates to Massive Farewell Tour

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:48pm

Journey’s farewell tour just got a whole lot less final.

The legendary rock band announced 40 additional North American dates for its sprawling Final Frontier farewell tour, extending the run through late November 2026 after what the group described as overwhelming fan response.

The newly added leg kicks off Sept. 12 in Los Angeles and wraps up Nov. 28 in San Francisco, giving Journey one more lengthy victory lap across arenas in the U.S. and Canada.

“The energy has been incredible every night,” Journey founder and guitarist Neal Schon said in a statement. “Seeing these crowds sing these songs with us after all these years has been powerful. We’re excited to bring The Final Frontier Tour to even more cities this fall.”

Unlike many of the band’s recent tours, Journey is currently performing without an opening act, allowing the group to stretch its setlist deeper into its catalog. Alongside staples like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Faithfully” and “Any Way You Want It,” the band has also been performing fan-favorite deeper cuts including “Chain Reaction,” “Suzanne” and “Dead or Alive,” along with “Of a Lifetime” from the band’s 1975 self-titled debut album.

Frontman Arnel Pineda said audiences have helped make the farewell run feel more like a celebration than a goodbye.

“The fans have been incredible,” Pineda said. “Every night feels like a celebration, and we’re excited to share that experience with even more cities.”

And while the Final Frontier tour is expected to wrap in 2027, one longtime dream still hangs in the air like a lighter raised during a power ballad: a possible appearance from former frontman Steve Perry.

“I wish Steve Perry would make an appearance,” Pineda told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “He doesn’t even have to sing. He can just take a bow with the guys.”

Oreo’s New Spring Exclusive Sounds Just Like Last Year’s Sold-Out Cookie

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:41pm

Oreo just dropped an exclusive new treat for spring, and we can only imagine how amped fans are going to be as it appears to be inspired by a viral cookie flavor the brand hasn't restocked in nearly one year.

Last spring, the iconic sandwich cookie debuted its "small batch" Cherry Blossom Matcha Oreo Thins flavor, featuring a split pink-and-green cherry blossom and a matcha-flavored filling between two classic chocolate Oreo cookies. It was so popular that fans had a really hard time tracking it down, with some reporting the flavor sold out in just 20 minutes.

While the company hasn't made any official announcements suggesting the limited-edition treat will be returning any time soon, it just dropped a very similar recipe: Oreo Forever Springtime Cherry Sakura, Strawberry Matcha, which uses Golden Oreos as its base and flavored fudge to entice fans to "savor the flavors of spring."

Oreo Drops New Limited-Edition Forever Springtime Cherry Sakura, Strawberry Matcha Cookies

Oreo's new Cherry Sakura delivers a "classic springtime bite," featuring a Golden Oreo cookie dipped in cherry-sakura-flavored fudge, according to an official description. The Strawberry Matcha cookies also star the Golden Oreo and offer a fun twist on the pairing with strawberry-matcha-flavored fudge.

Where Is the New, Seasonal Oreo Flavor Collection Available?

Oreo's new Springtime Forever cookie collection is available exclusively via the online Oreo store in a 12-count box with six of each flavor for $24.99, for a limited time (presumably as long as supplies last this season).

Prefer to buy your Oreos without fudge? The popular cookie brand has plenty of other seasonal flavors in stores now, including the new Firecracker Pop and returning favorite, S'mores.

One of the Best Rodeos in America Isn’t Even Close to Texas

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:39pm

When people think of rodeo, Texas is clearly the first place that comes to mind. But according to USA Today 10Best's latest rankings of America's premier rodeo events, you don't need to head to the Lone Star State to witness world-class Western competition. In fact, the second-best rodeo in the nation takes place in Maryland.

The publication consulted rodeo experts to narrow down the country's top events, then let readers vote for their favorites. The result? A list that highlights spectacular rodeo experiences across America—and proves that some of the most entertaining events are happening outside Texas.

The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo

Coming in at #2 on the list is the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a rodeo that’s as entertaining as it is significant. Back in 1984, a Colorado native named Lu Vason created this rodeo to honor the legendary Black cowboy Bill Pickett, and it's since become the longest-running Black rodeo in the country.

The event is much more than just a competition—it's a cultural celebration that brings together riders and audiences to recognize the enormous impact Black cowboys and cowgirls had in shaping the American West. Through reenactments, historical moments, and Western performances, attendees get both entertainment and education about a crucial but often overlooked piece of history.

The National Finals happen every year in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, drawing the top money-winning riders from across the nation. They compete for over $100,000 in prizes, including custom-made buckles, saddles, and other awards. It's the event for riders who've traveled the circuit all season.

The rodeo doesn't stay in one place—it tours multiple cities throughout the year, hitting spots like Fort Worth, Memphis, Oakland, Los Angeles, and Atlanta before wrapping up at the Show Place Arena in Washington, D.C. That means no matter where you live, you likely have a chance to catch it without traveling too far.

Other Top Non-Texas Picks

Beyond Bill Pickett, USA Today 10Best highlighted several other standout rodeos worth the trip. California's Palm Springs Hot Rodeo supports LGBTQ+ causes through the International Gay Rodeo Association while delivering traditional steer wrestling and barrel racing. Colorado's Snowmass Rodeo combines family entertainment with genuine competitive action set against alpine scenery. Arizona's Prescott event claims the distinction of being the nation's oldest continuously running rodeo, stretching back to the 1880s.

The message is clear: some of America's most thrilling—and culturally significant—rodeos aren't in Texas.

The Complete Top 10 List

Here's USA Today 10Best's full ranking of America's best rodeos:

  1. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (Houston, Texas)
  2. Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo National Finals (Upper Marlboro, Maryland)
  3. San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo (San Antonio, Texas)
  4. Palm Springs Hot Rodeo (Palm Springs, California)
  5. World's Oldest Rodeo (Prescott, Arizona)
  6. Weekley Brothers Davie Pro Rodeo (Davie, Florida)
  7. Tucson Rodeo (Tucson, Arizona)
  8. Cheyenne Frontier Days (Cheyenne, Wyoming)
  9. Arizona Invitational Black Rodeo (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Which Saint Guides You, Based on Zodiac Sign

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:33pm

No matter your current religious beliefs and practices, you can still call upon the saint that guides you, according to your zodiac sign. But which saint is aligned with you? With more than 10,000 saints to choose from, finding one who resonates with your morals, divinespiritual journey, and values might be a bit difficult. Thankfully, astrology can point you in the right direction.

Astrologers note that there’s a saint that guides every zodiac sign. Some even theorize that the twelve zodiac signs mimic the twelve apostles. Regardless of what you believe, there’s a saint that aligns with your zodiac sign’s energy, attributes, and divine spiritual destiny. This particular saint wants to assist and nurture you in any way that they can. They believe in your cosmic energy and want to see you grow as a spiritual being. Read on to find your saint, based on your zodiac sign.

Your Saint, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Keep reading, and look for your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs.

Aries: Saint Joan of Arc

A warring spirit is found in every Aries. You’re ruled by Mars, the planet of action and aggression, making you a force to reckon with. While most saints were rebels in their own way, no saint captures your spirit quite like Joan of Arc. You'll feel called to work with Saint Joan because she’s a hero. As the patron saint of soldiers, Joan of Arc represents the burning bravery you feel when you stand up for what’s right. Call on Saint Joan when you need a boost of courage to take a stance.

Taurus: Saint Christopher

You’ll never feel alone when you ask Saint Christopher for guidance. Unlike other star signs, you’re a bit more hesitant. Your fixed earth energy comes across as cautious and conservative, so you don’t like to make unnecessary journeys. However, this hesitancy can hold you back from going after your destiny. Saint Christopher will help by walking with you. As the patron saint of journeying, Saint Christopher offers divine protection and assistance as you continue in your path. Knowing this patron saint is by your side will give you the confidence to move forward.

Gemini: Saint Anthony of Padua

Tony, Tony, turn around—Gemini’s lost something that cannot be found. As a mutable air sign, you tend to be everywhere all at once. Having your attention pulled in various directions means you’re always changing your mind and doing new things. Although change is good, being fickle can cause you to lose track of meaningful items, time, or even a sense of purpose. Luckily, Saint Anthony is here to help. You can call on Tony to help you find whatever you’re looking for, be it a sentimental belonging or even your way.

Cancer: Saint Monica

Family is the most important thing to you. You feel strongly about your domestic life, because astrology says Cancer is associated with the home, ancestral ties, and motherhood. Whether you’re praying for your parents or asking the divine to help you conceive, Saint Monica will answer your prayers. She’s the patron saint of motherhood and family, so Saint Monica will do everything in her power to assist with your home life. You can ask her for advice and guidance as you navigate family affairs. Saint Monica can even be the soul family you need if you’re without family.

Leo: Saint Nicholas

Is there anyone more generous than you? You’re a big-hearted fire sign who genuinely enjoys spreading love and happiness wherever you go. While there are many saints who embrace your joyfulness, you’ll feel a special bond with Saint Nicholas, who eventually inspired Santa Claus. You’ll feel connected with Saint Nicholas, because this patron saint shares your kindness. Saint Nicholas became popular for secretly helping others and doing good deeds. Both you and Saint Nicholas share a benevolent spirit that so many love you for.

Virgo: Saint Catherine of Siena

If anyone is up for the job, it’s you. Many trust you with highly important responsibilities and projects, because they know you’ll strive for perfection. Your work ethic and commitment to excellence is reflected in Saint Catherine of Sienna. She was truly revolutionary since she had the ability to influence the papacy. Like you, Saint Catherine was given special tasks, because she was dedicated and intelligent. You’ll know when Saint Catherine is close by, because she’ll re-affirm your Mercurial strengths and ability to accomplish whatever you’ve set out to do.

RELATE?: The 4 Birth Dates Who Make the Best Cat Parents

Libra: Saint Valentine

Have you tried asking your patron saint for help in love? As a Venusian star sign, you’re naturally aligned with romance, commitment, and marriage. Saint Valentine will hold a special place in your heart, especially in your quest for love. Saint Valentine’s best known for secretly marrying couples, since he believed in the power of love despite knowing the repercussions for breaking the rules. His romantic power and influence reaches you centuries later. Don’t hesitate to ask Saint Valentine for guidance as you search for your soulmate.

Scorpio: Saint Augustine of Hippo

Many saints appeal to you, because you resonate with their traumas, hardships, and transformative plights into sainthood. Of all the saints to connect with, Saint Augustine of Hippo shares a personal connection with you. Saint Augustine’s one of the few saints who openly and compassionately speaks about his relationship with sinning. Instead of shying away from these taboo subjects, he embraces them. Not only does Saint Augustine own it, but he also sets the example to rise above. You’ll feel called to Saint Augustine, because you’ll see your humanity  mirrored in him.

Sagittarius: Saint Thomas Aquinas

Did you know you’re associated with higher education and belief systems? You can thank your ruling planet, Jupiter, for being associated with education and spiritual philosophies. Many saints will be drawn to you, but Saint Thomas Aquinas has already claimed you. Saint Thomas Aquinas was a theologian known for his religious and philosophical musings. Even if you don’t agree with Saint Thomas Aquinas, you can appreciate his depth and knowledge. If you’re ready to open your mind, Saint Thomas Aquinas will happily help elevate your worldview and expand upon your spirituality.

Capricorn: Saint Matthew

Saint Matthew knows it’s business as usual with you, Capricorn. You’re a hardworking earth sign determined to create a strong professional legacy and lasting financial abundance. Sure, there are other things in life that matter to you, but your career path and success comes first. Saint Matthew can guide you through these matters as the patron saint of banking. Not only can he advise you through professional and financial matters, but Saint Matthew can also remind you that there’s more to your life than work and money.

Aquarius: Saint Bernadette Soubirous

Being a humanitarian means working with a saint who roots for the underdog, and Saint Bernadette Soubirous has got your back. You care deeply for those who are less fortunate than you. People who struggle with poverty, societal setbacks, and living a spiritual lifestyle tug on your heart. Saint Bernadette feels the same as you do, since she’s called to those struggling with poverty and ridicule. If you ever wonder how you can make a difference, call upon Saint Bernadette for help. She can show you the way.

Pisces: Saint Francis of Assisi

Pisces, you're empathetic to all living creatures and people from all walks of life. Your mutable water energy means you are emotionally profound and compassionate. While many saints align with your gentle spirit, Saint Francis of Assisi truly stands out. Like you, Saint Francis’ spiritual journey deepened his love for every living being. You and Saint Francis see the divine beauty in your world, as you share a deep connection with life itself. Working with Saint Francis means appreciating every little detail of life without feeling overwhelmed by it. Let Saint Francis guide you toward emotional acceptance, peace, and stability.

Booktok Sensation’s Debut Smutty Dark Romance Is Among the List of ‘Most Streamed Audiobooks of All Time'

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:26pm

When it comes to audiobooks, there are certain ones that are definitely NSFW. The dark romance with the smut is on that list, but it’s become some of the best content to absorb on a daily basis. It’s not that surprising, then, to find out that a lot of this dark romance has landed on Spotify’s “Most Streamed Audiobooks” of all time.

Spotify officially landed into the audiobook space in September 2022, but it’s only been over the last year or so that listeners have really paid attention. It’s a great way to get audiobooks without paying extra, even with the limitations Spofity adds, and it’s not surprising that Lights Out by Navessa Allen sits toward the top of the list of “most streamed,” landing in the No. 6 spot. It’s just behind A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, who took over two spots in the top five.

‘Lights Out’ Has the Best Duet Narration

Allen’s BookTok sensation isn’t only on this Spotify list. It also landed on Goodreads’ list of “Best Duet Narrations,” claiming the top spot just ahead of Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver. Both of these authors have put the dark romance on the map, and any follow-ups and new books immediately gain traction.

In fact, the third book in the collection by Allen, Game On, immediately rose to the top of Audible’s sales. That was just with the pre-orders!

View this post on Instagram A ‘Lights Out’ Adaptation Is Coming

It also won’t be surprising to hear that an adaptation of Lights Out is coming. Netflix has secured the rights to the story, and it was announced in February 2026. This is still in the early stages of development, but it’s exciting news for those who want to see Aly and Josh on the small screen.

If you also can’t get enough of the universe, there is a cookbook! Yes, there are some questions about releasing a cookbook, considering some of the topics that come up in the novel — check the trigger warnings at the start of the book — but no humans were harmed in the creation of the cookbook!

Nearly 50% of Single Americans Are No Longer Dating and the Reason Isn’t What You’d Expect

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:22pm

According to BMO’s Real Financial Progress Index, almost 50% of single Americans have completely stopped dating. The reason? They simply can’t afford it. While cheap date ideas still exist, many say skyrocketing prices aren’t worth the effort.

The Stats Are Grim

The recent BMO report outlining the cost of a date paints a grim picture of America's future. The average date in the U.S. now costs around $189, and that’s for something relatively easy like a dinner with one drink. In our current economy, singles are opting for groceries or gas money instead.

A Domino Effect

With U.S. birthrates hitting an all-time low, 1.64 per woman, we are on the brink of a population crisis. To maintain the current population, the birth rate would need to be about 2.1 per woman. With fewer people dating, they're also less likely to get married or have children. It’s a domino effect with much broader repercussions.

Too Much Risk

With fewer people engaging in these activities, most point to finances as the reason. According to a Harvard Youth Poll, Gen Z and younger Millennials are mostly focused on financial stability and their mental health. Without those two pillars in place, dating is relegated to the sidelines.

Leo Gabriela 22-year-old New York City resident, says, “Why would I spend $100 on someone I may not even vibe with?”

How Much Does It Cost These Days?

With 50% of Gen Z and 40% of Millennials not dating at all, it seems many agree with Gabriel’s statement. When you have to choose between a tank of gas to get to work and going out with a stranger, the more practical option wins out.

The average cost of popular date night activities in the U.S. looks like this:

They Just Aren't Going Out

Many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, with low earners having to dip into their savings just to pay their monthly bills. Considering the young dating population is less likely to have disposable income, it’s no wonder they aren’t going out as much as their older counterparts.

There are still options for low-cost dates for couples who want to get to know each other, but the statistics show that nearly half aren’t even bothering to try.

Brooke Shields Thought Hollywood Rejected Her Talent — Until She Learned the Truth After Her Mother Died

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:09pm

Brooke Shields spent decades believing Hollywood’s top agents rejected her because she wasn’t talented enough — only to learn after her mother’s death that many had actually wanted to represent her, just not with her mom managing her.

In a revealing interview on the Dinner's On Me Podcast, Brooke told host Jesse Tyler Ferguson that she finally got the validation about her talent after her mother, Teri, died. "And, you know, finding out later that, like, Sam Cohen wanted to represent me when I was, like, 14 or 15 or something, but he wanted my mom out of the picture. I never knew this," she shared.

"I didn't know this until she died," Brooke continued, adding, "And my godmother told me, and I was like, 'So he did think I had talent.' So all these years, I thought I was rejected by him because I wasn't talented. Meanwhile, I know that that type of validation doesn't necessarily mean the world... but it did to me 'cause he was a big agent of really great actors."

Brooke recalled the unique relationship she had with her mother, including the time when Teri refused to allow Brooke to quit college, despite Brooke begging to come home. It was around that time when Brooke decided to claim her independence from having her mom manage her career.

"So she kind of forced me to stay [at Princeton], which for her, was the beginning of the end, 'cause...that was the beginning of my real individuation from her," Brooke recounted.

It was at that point forward that she decided to move away from having Teri manage her. "Because we didn't have a lot to hold onto except for fame at that point. So I think those four years gave me a perspective, enough to say, 'Okay, I have to go about all of this differently.' Because my next move was to leave her as a manager and go to an agency that I'd never been with before."

Gordon Ramsay Reveals the Top New Food Trend—That Lets You Skip Salt

Tue, 05/12/2026 - 2:02pm

On May 11, Gordon Ramsay spoke with PEOPLE at the 2026 Fox Upfronts. When asked about what food trend people should try this summer season, he gave two different examples. His first was “infused olive oils.”

The legendary chef explained that you can use “olive oils with things like roasted garlic or black garlic puree. Olive oils that have been infused with Thai basil. Fragrant olive oils.”

He called this “a way of seasoning food without using salt. Using olive oil flavored beautifully can really transform a dish.”

Ramsay went on to give his second food trend suggestion: “Pickling vegetables. Honestly, delicious.”

During the Upfronts, Fox revealed that several of Ramsay’s cooking shows have been renewed for another season. They include Kitchen Nightmares, Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service, Next Level Baker, andNext Level Chef.

When speaking about filming so many different shows at the same time, Ramsay said, "I take each and every one of them independently. They all have some real unique creativity input, and so I'm very lucky I get to executive produce those."

He continued, “I test myself before I put the challenge in front of them, and if I'm struggling with it, they're going to struggle. So I never rest on my laurels. I'm always ripping up the rule book and trying to be a little bit disruptive, but in a creative way.”

When asked which show is his favorite, he refused to pick just one. “I have six shows on air right now,” he said. “That's like saying, I have six kids as well, what's my favorite kid? It depends, it's the one that least pisses me off at the moment.”

However, he did tease one show in particular. “We're about to start season 25 of Hell's Kitchen next week, and it's going to be working with youngsters from 19 to 25 years old," he said. "The kids that grew up with the show. I am so excited to see that generation. I think it's going to be one of the most exciting, because I love mentoring. I love teaching. I just hope they can absorb quickly.”
