The world is mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara, and her fellow comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short raised a glass in tribute to her during the comedy show the night of her death.

“Catherine O’Hara I met when she was 18 years of age,” Short, 75, said during a comedy show on Friday, January 30. “All these years later, she’s been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with so, God bless Catherine.”

He and Martin, 80, then toasted to O’Hara as the audience erupted into cheers and applause.

The Beetlejuice star’s passing shocked fans on January 30, with TMZ the first to report the news. Page Six later said O’Hara had experienced a brief illness, while TMZ reported she was transported to the hospital in "serious condition" just hours earlier.

Since news broke of her passing, tributes from fans and costars alike have flooded in. Eugene Levy, who was very close with O’Hara for over 50 years, told People that “words seemed inadequate to describe the loss” he felt when he learned of her death.

"From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on Schitt's Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship," the American Pie star, 79, continued. “And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O'Hara family.”

His son, Dan Levy, who also starred in Schitt’s Creek with O’Hara, echoed his dad’s sentiments in an emotional message shared via Instagram.

"What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years," he wrote alongside a carousel of photos of him and O’Hara together. "Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."

As tributes continue to pour in, no cause of death has been officially released, and her representative told People that the family plans to celebrate her life in a private ceremony.

Fashion influencer Danielle Bernstein is offering a personal update after confirming her split from former fiancé Cooper Weisman.

One day after announcing the breakup, the WeWoreWhat founder returned to Instagram Stories on Saturday, January 31 with a simple message: “rly appreciate the kindness and support,” paired with a heart emoji. The post showed Bernstein sitting cross-legged on the floor in pajamas.

Bernstein also shared glimpses of how she’s spending her time in the immediate aftermath of the split. In one Story, she wrote “family weekend” over a serene photo of snowy water, signaling she had stepped away from the city. She later posted additional photos and videos of herself playing with a small child and a puppy.

The 33-year-old first confirmed the breakup on Friday January 30, explaining why she had chosen to keep the situation private until then. “I’ve been quiet about my personal life, and wasn’t ready to speak on it until now. We’re stepping away from our relationship with love and respect,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. She was clear that the decision wasn’t driven by scandal or a single incident, noting there was “no big dramatic reason” and that they ultimately weren’t “the right forever.”

She also asked followers for understanding during the transition. “I’m not sure what the future holds, but this choice took courage. I would really appreciate privacy and grace for both of us during this time. Thank you for the support,” she added.

The breakup came just a few months after the couple’s lavish engagement party in October 2025, which Bernstein documented extensively on social media. Online speculation had swirled in recent weeks, with some Reddit users theorizing about prenuptial disagreements, though Bernstein has not addressed those claims. Weisman proposed to Bernstein back in June 2025.

At this time, Bernstein's rep has not responded to Parade’s request for comment.

Some people swear by the refrigerator. Others insist on paper bags, plastic bags, kitchen towels or even those fancy little bread boxes. Then there’s always the question about storing your bread in the freezer, slicing versus not slicing...and suddenly baking a simple loaf feels far more complicated than it should.

The truth is that homemade bread just behaves differently from store-bought bread, and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it's one of the main reasons people love to make their bread from scratch. No preservatives, additives or ingredients you can't pronounce—it's a total win! Fresh bread is alive in a way packaged loaves are not.

First of all, it’s still releasing moisture, its starches are continuing to change and its shelf life depends heavily on the type of bread you’ve baked—sourdough, banana bread and that beautiful braided challah shouldn't be stored the same. To help answer all of these questions, Parade went straight to the pros.

We tapped Ellen King, co-owner and director of baking operations at Hewn, the Evanston, IL-based bakery that was Food & Wine and Food Network's winner for best bread bakery in America and Gonzalo Lanao Tapia, vice president of retail & bakery operations at fan-favorite, award-winning Bread Alone bakery out of the Hudson Valley, New York region.

How Long Will Homemade Bread Stay Fresh?

According to Tapia, how long homemade bread stays fresh depends on both the type of bread and how it was made. "Most lean artisan loaves are at their best for one to two days at room temperature, while softer enriched breads can hold quality for three to five days," he tells Parade.

King points out that the leavening method plays a major role, explaining, "If the bread is exclusively made with a sourdough starter, it should last four to five days (covered). If it's made with instant yeast, it will go stale within one to two days."

Tapia says that homemade bread tends to decline faster than store-bought bread because it doesn’t contain preservatives or anti-staling additives, and it usually isn’t sealed as tightly or as quickly after baking. Nothing's wrong—that faster aging is normal and expected when it comes to a homemade loaf.

What Causes Homemade Bread To Go Bad?

Staling and mold are often lumped together, but they’re caused by different factors. "Staling is caused by the recrystallization and rearrangement of starches, which makes the crumb firm over time," says Tapia. This process is largely unavoidable at room temperature.

Environmental conditions matter, too.

"Exposure to the air will dry it out quicker in some cases, especially in the winter when it is less humid," King says, which is why uncovered bread on the counter can deteriorate faster than expected.

Tapia also notes that pre-slicing your bread and then letting it hang out on the counter at room temperature isn't the best idea. "The less surface area exposed, the better the bread will stay fresh," he says. "If a loaf is sliced, it should be stored in the freezer and slices should be pulled as needed."

Mold is a separate issue altogether. "Mold...comes from fungal spores and is related to moisture and environmental conditions rather than staling," Tapia shares. High moisture, trapped humidity and warm environments create ideal conditions for mold growth, especially in breads with added sugars or fruit.

Understanding this distinction is key to storing bread well. The goal isn’t just to delay staling, but to manage air and moisture in a way that keeps bread enjoyable for as long as possible.

And the one mistake both experts see a lot of home bakers make? Storing your bread in the fridge. "For most breads, especially lean, crusty loaves, the refrigerator is the ideal temperature to accelerate the staling process," Tapia explains. The one exception? "High-moisture quick breads," says Tapia (think banana bread). "Refrigeration can help slow mold growth if freezing is not an option."

The Best Ways To Store Homemade Bread, According to Pro Bakers

Not all types of bread are the same, which is why it's important to choose the right storage method for the type of bread you have. Here are the expert tips you need to know.

How to store sourdough bread

Sourdough bread lasts longer than many other breads thanks to its natural acidity. "The lactic and acetic acids found in sourdough inhibit mold growth, which allows it to last longer than many other breads," Tapia shares. That said, sourdough can still stale, even if it doesn’t mold right away.

King agrees that sourdough has built-in staying power, explaining, "A sourdough starter adds acidity to the bread (and naturally leavens/ferments) and will naturally preserve the bread for four to five days if stored in a sealed container." She adds that refrigerating sourdough never makes sense, while freezing is a smart option if you can’t finish the loaf.

How to store sandwich bread

Soft sandwich bread should be stored at room temperature in an airtight container or bag once it is fully cooled. This helps prevent both drying out and mold growth. If the bread won’t be used within a few days, Tapia recommends slicing it and storing it in the freezer, where slices can be pulled as needed. (If you're toasting the bread, you can put it straight in the toaster from the freezer.)

King goes another route with sandwich bread: "I love bread boxes, but the best way to store bread is investing in a Bees Wrap cloth [a cotton wrap infused with beeswax]. This is hands down the best way to keep bread fresh for several days. I will wrap the bread in it and then place it in a bread box," she tells Parade.

How to store enriched breads

Enriched breads (like brioche, challah or pain de mie) are designed to stay soft, so airtight storage is essential. Bread boxes offer a good balance by reducing drying but allowing some air circulation and plastic bags keep the bread soft by trapping moisture. However, plastic can encourage mold if the bread isn't fully cooled, so make sure that your loaves are room temperature before you wrap them up.

How to store banana bread

Banana bread often looks sturdy, but it actually spoils faster than many other breads. "Banana bread has a high moisture content and a high level of natural sugars, which creates an ideal environment for mold growth," explains Tapia.

King notes that banana bread has a shorter shelf life at room temperature than other breads, so be prepared to eat it pretty quickly. "It should last four days wrapped on your counter," she says. Beyond that, tighter wrapping and colder storage (AKA the freezer) help to prevent mold.

How to store crusty bread and baguettes

Tapia says that, unlike enriched breads, crusty bread or baguettes can be stored in paper bags and kitchen towels. This is helpful if you want to protect the crust, but they won't keep bread soft for long. 

A note here: Crusty loaves and baguettes seem to go stale overnight, but what’s often happening isn’t true staling. "Much of what people experience overnight is moisture migration rather than true staling," Tapia says. As bread releases moisture, it moves from the crumb into the crust, softening it. This happens especially quickly in baguettes because of their high crust-to-crumb ratio.

And when it comes to reviving baguettes, the pros have differing opinions.

Tapia says reheating with a light mist of water and a hot oven can restore crispness and improve the quality of a hard baguette. "While it will never be exactly the same as the first cooling," he says, "many breads develop deeper flavor as they age, and the results can be surprisingly good."

King has a slightly different take. "I will use a day-old baguette for toast or make bread crumbs with it," she says, saying that a baguette is meant to be eaten the same day, preferably within a few hours out of the oven. "Some breads have to be respected and appreciated the same day, and that is what makes them so special."

Actress Holly Hunterhas been donning a Starfleet uniform for her newest role as Nahla Ake in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which premiered in January 2026.

Hunter spoke about playing the Starfleet Academy chancellor, who happens to have quite a long lifespan due to being half-Lanthanite, during a January 30 interview onThe Kelly Clarkson Show, hosted by Kelly Clarkson. During the interview, Hunter told Clarkson that she remembered watching some of Star Trek: The Original Series when it first aired in the 1960s. She said, however, that she wasn't a fan of the science fiction franchise before being cast as Nahla. The actress explained that her lack of Star Trek knowledge made learning the franchise's terminology challenging.

"It's like, 'How do I pronounce this?' These are words that I've never heard of before. Some of them are definitely made up. Some of them are in the Trek, you know, terminology. And I'm not a Trekkie, so a lot of them I didn't know," explained Hunter on the talk show.

She clarified that she was eventually able to get used to the dialogue.

"I had to really verse myself in that language. Just real repetition. And then it was just so much fun," said Hunter during the January 30 interview.

Hunter also said that while her character is the head of Starfleet Academy, she views herself as an equal to her co-stars, even if they are playing academy students. She explained that while she has been in the entertainment industry longer than her younger castmates, they are still all learning from each other.

"Even though they're much younger than I am, I didn't care. they're my fellow actors. They are my coworkers," said Hunter in the interview. "We are cohorts, we are shoulder to shoulder. I didn't wanna take an advisory position, or a punitive. None of that. I'm learning alongside these young actors. And they're teaching me stuff, so it was a beautiful collaboration."

Tim Burton is remembering his friend Catherine O’Harawith an emotional tribute following her sudden death.

“Catherine, I love you,” Burton, 67, wrote via Instagram on Friday, January 30, after news broke of the actress’s death. “This picture shows how much light you gave to all of us. You were a special part of my life and after life.” The post featured a behind-the-scenes photo from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, showing Burton alongside O’Hara, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Jenna Ortega.

Burton’s tribute clearly resonated with fans, as they took to the comments to also express their sadness over the loss.

“My all time fave movie, I’m glad she got to do number 2, rip legend,” one fan commented.

“Rest in peace our eternal Sally ,” another wrote, while a third said, “Truly one of a kind. I’m so heartbroken.”

O’Hara’s connection to Burton spanned decades. She memorably played Delia Deetz in the original Beetlejuice and reprised the role in the 2024 sequel. Beyond live-action, she also lent her voice to Burton’s animated projects The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie, becoming a recurring presence in his creative universe.

Burton joins a growing list of stars paying tribute to O’Hara, including Macaulay Culkin, Keaton, and her Schitt’s Creekcostars Eugene and Dan Levy. O’Hara died on January 30 at age 71 following what her agency described as a “brief illness.”

In the hours before her death, O’Hara was reportedly rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in “serious condition.” Paramedics responded to a medical aid call at her Brentwood home at 4:48 a.m., according to prior reporting. The actress also lived with situs inversus, a rare condition in which internal organs are mirrored, though it remains unclear whether it was related to her passing.

In a statement shared with Parade, Apple TV and Lionsgate honored O’Hara’s legacy, calling her “an undeniable legend, icon, and incomparable talent.” The companies added that her work “will forever bring humor, light, and love for generations to come,” while extending their condolences to her husband, Bo Welch, and sons Matthew and Luke.

On July 22, 2025, the world lost a music legend when Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76. Tributes flew in from across the globe, but the most emotional one of all could very likely happen on the Grammy stage. The performance will feature rock legends like Guns N' Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith.

Joining them will be Post Malone, who collaborated with Osbourne on 2019's "Take What You Want" and 2020's "It's a Raid." Completing the tribute will be Andrew Watt—a very close friend and collaborator during the last chapter of Osbourne's career—who produced his final two solo albums.

Lauryn Hill is set to lead a tribute honoring two legends lost in 2025: Roberta Flack and D’Angelo. The singer famously covered Flack’s "Killing Me Softly" with The Fugees and it hit No. 1 in over 20 countries. Flack's original version and the Fugees cover both won Grammys in 1974 and 1997, respectively. Hill also collaborated with D’Angelo on her debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

The Black American Heritage Flag represents the pride and accomplishments of Black Americans. But it is even more than that. Along with celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans, this flag also symbolizes the struggles and pain that were endured throughout history. In remembering both the accomplishments and the pain, this flag was created as a way to make progress and offer hope to Black Americans.

The flag consists of red and black with a distinct gold symbol. Its design involved a lot of thought, and each part had a significant meaning. Like the colors for Black History Month, red represents the innocent blood shed by Black Americans throughout America's history and black signifies pride in the Black race. The color gold, in the symbol, represents intellect, prosperity and peace. And the symbol itself—made up of a blunted sword and a fig wreath—has its own meaning. The sword is meant to instill pride, and the fig wreath symbolizes peace, prosperity and everlasting life.

Who Designed the Black American Heritage Flag?

Melvin Charles and Gleason T. Jackson designed the flag in 1967. However, their inspiration began much earlier, when Charles realized that other groups of people, like those with Italian and Hispanic heritage, had a flag at parades, while African Americans did not. Charles and Jackson put a lot of thought, research and intentionality into creating the Black American Heritage Flag, as Charles discussed with PBS.

Charles also wrote a book called The Rallying Point. In it, he describes the struggle to promote the Black American Heritage Flag. It details all of the ups and downs that Charles and Jackson went through while attempting to promote the flag. Their story is a lesson in perseverance against all odds.

As Charles says in the book, "That we have survived at all is testimony to that strength and greatness and that survival is warrant enough to justify finding pride in who we are. Why Was the Black American Heritage Flag Created?

In general, flags are used as a visual symbol of a cause or identity. The use of flags goes all the way back to ancient Roman times, representing military affiliations on the battlefield.

LeAnn Rimes and Jessica Capshaw have taken a break from their onscreen rivalry to have a little fun at their fans' expense, stirring up "a little emotional sabotage" with a "traumatizing" new social media video targeting Grey's Anatomy viewers.

On the set of 9-1-1: Nashville, Capshaw rested on a hospital bed with her eyes closed, while Rimes sat on a stool at her side and belted out “The Story”—the same song that Sara Ramirez’s Callie sang as her spirit watched over her fellow doctors fighting to save her life after being thrown through a windshield. 

Capshaw lay with her hands clasped over her waist and her eyes closed until Rimes broke out of the song, placing her arms on the edge of the bed and pleading, “Wake up, Blythe.”

Capshaw popped up, joking, “I’ve seen the light!” before the two celebrated their successful take at “drama, nostalgia, and a little emotional sabotage.”

But, seeing as Rimes’ Dixie and Capshaw’s Blythe are not on the friendliest of terms, the two quickly switched back into the mode of having to “hate each other again,” with Rimes throwing her middle finger up at Capshaw’s back as they left their little side set.

Fans joked that the video was the equivalent of "cyber-bullying," telling the country star and the Grey's alum, "We do not joke about this."

Rimes performed the full version of the Brandi Carlile track back in 2020, when she won The Masked Singer while disguised as the sun. Actor Jensen Acklesrevealed that he and his wife, actress Danneel Ackles, have arguments about what most would consider a chore.

Jensen gave some unexpected insight into his 15-year-long marriage during the January 2026 Supernatural Convention in Las Vegas. During a panel, alongside his Supernatural co-star, Misha Collins, Jensen revealed that he and Danneel are both eager to power-wash their property. He said that they get disappointed if the other uses the water spray to clean their property.

"It is something we argue over who gets to do it. We both enjoy it so much. I come home and I see the whole back patio's been power washed and I'm like, 'I was going to do that!'" said Jensen, who played Dean Winchester on Supernatural throughout the show's 15 seasons.

He also said that his wife will sometimes get frustrated when his oldest child, Justice, asks his help with math homework, even when he's out of town for work.

"I got FaceTimed the other day by my seventh grader and she's like, 'I need some help with math.' And I'm like, 'All right, what do we do?'" said Jensen while speaking to the audience. "And then from the back [Danneel] is like, 'I can help you. You just have to tell me and explain it.' [My daughter's] like 'That's alright mom. I've got dad on the phone now.'"

Jensen joked that getting those "victories" are "so nice."

Jensen discussed Danneel and their three children in a July 2025 interview with People magazine. He described their Connecticut home as tranquil. The Boys star also credited his family as why he has remained grounded.

“I’ve got a really, really quiet, peaceful life. When I go home, I’m home. I’m not Jensen the actor. I’m Jensen the husband, the dad, the friend, the brother, the son. I think having that stability in my personal life has really given me a good grounding, a good foundation for what I do," said Jensen to the publication.

On Tuesday, January 6, Witherspoon—with a little help from her fellow famous book-loving pal Jennifer Garner—unveiled the first Reese's Book Club selection of 2026 via Instagram video: The First Time I Saw Him by Laura Dave.

The new novel, which officially hit bookshelves on Jan. 6, is the highly-anticipated sequel to Dave’s 2021 title, The Last Thing He Told Me. Since Garner stars in the TV adaptation, it was only fitting for Jen to joined the book club fun. (Witherspoon is also an executive producer on the Apple TV+ miniseries, which returns for its second season on Tuesday, February 20.)

The first book ended with Owen's disappearance and picks up five years later, finding Hannah Hall and stepdaughter Bailey settled into their new life in Southern California. During this time, they've forged a relationship with Bailey's grandfather Nicholas and are trying to put the past behind them. "But when Owen shows up at Hannah’s new exhibition, she knows that she and Bailey are in danger again," reads the novel's synopsis, per Reese's Book Club. "Hannah and Bailey are forced to go on the run in a relentless race to keep their past from catching up with them. As a thrilling drama unfolds, Hannah risks everything to get Bailey to safety—and finds there just might be a way back to Owen and their long-awaited second chance."

Annie Murphy is honoring her beloved Schitt's Creek costar, Catherine O'Hara, who died at the age of 71.

Murphy, 39, played O'Hara's flighty daughter Alexis Rose on the hit series, which follows the wealthy Rose family after they lose their fortune and are forced to seek refuge in a rural Canadian town named Schitt's Creek. The family patriarch, video tycoon Johnny Rose (played by the legendary Eugene Levy), once purchased the town as a joke for their son David's birthday decades prior. David is played by the show's co-creator, Eugene's son Dan Levy. O'Hara earned rave reviews and legions of new fans for her role as Moira Rose, the eccentric actress known for bizarre word pronunciations and an extensive wig collection.

On Instagram, Murphy shared a sweet post that featured photos of herself and the renowned actress, who was also known for roles in films like Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, and After Hours.

"Ha-ha-HAAAA?!?! Her laugh was a perpetual Yes, And... It challenged anyone who heard it to join in, and be as delighted as she was. Gosh, were we ever lucky to have her," Murphy captioned the photo series. She concluded the post with a hashtag that read "goodbye to a great actress," along with a smiling emoji wearing sunglasses.

The Lessons She Learned From O'Hara

In a note written on her phone that was posted in the third slide of her Instagram post, Murphy elaborated on the important lessons she learned from working with O'Hara over the years on Schitt's Creek.

"She would have never presumed to call herself a teacher (too self-depricating, too Canadian), but holy f---, was I ever a student. Here are a few Coles Notes for those who want to study," wrote Murphy.

"Giggles always. Jokes first. As long as they feel right in your bones. When you find the people you love and make you laugh, stick with your lovers and laughers. Everybody on set is a part of a community who (ideally) wants to make something great - treat them as such. Make suggestions, even if that means overstepping sometimes. Acknowledge if it doesn't work. Be appreciate to this who appreciate when it does," Murphy concluded.

One of Their Best 'Schitt's Creek' Moments

Bill Gates is forcefully denying a set of shocking allegations that resurfaced this week following a massive document release tied to the late Jeffrey Epstein.

On Friday, January 30, the U.S. Department of Justice released more than three million files connected to Epstein’s criminal investigations, per PEOPLE. Among them were draft emails Epstein allegedly wrote to himself that included unsubstantiated claims about Gates, 70, including assertions that the Microsoft co-founder contracted a sexually transmitted infection and attempted to conceal it from his then-wife, Melinda French Gates.

According to the outlet, one email dated July 18, 2013, with “Bill” listed as the subject, contained graphic allegations, including the claim that Gates sought antibiotics after contracting an STI from “Russian girls.” In response, a spokesperson for Gates issued a statement calling the accusations baseless. “These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false,” it read, adding that the emails reflect Epstein’s “frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”

The drafts appeared to be written as if they were intended for Boris Nikolic, a former adviser to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, though there is no indication the emails were ever sent or that Nikolic was aware of them. Nikolic resigned from the foundation in 2014.

Gates has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein, calling it “a huge mistake” in a January 2025 interview with The Wall Street Journal, where he said the relationship failed to advance any philanthropic goals.

The Gates allegations arrive amid growing concern about how Epstein-related materials are being interpreted—and misinterpreted—online. Earlier this week, John Ramsey—the father of JonBenét Ramsey—publicly pushed back against viral claims suggesting his late daughter appeared in Epstein-related files. “Absolutely no truth to it,” Ramsey told TMZ on Tuesday, January 27, warning that redacted images and speculation fueled by social media and AI can quickly spiral into harmful misinformation.

Inderjit (“Indu”) Chandra, now a 72-year-old retiree living in Texas who once worked in special education, completed her bucket list at age 70. That last task? Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. 

She’d hiked before, listing the foothills of the Himalayas, the Valley of Flowers and the Hemkund Sahib as previous achievements. “I was born in Tanzania, so climbing Kilimanjaro had always been a dream of mine,” she tells Parade.

On her 70th birthday, she decided to take on the challenge. “Years earlier, I had wanted to do it, but caring for my husband when he became ill delayed those plans,” she says. “After he passed away, the opportunity came again, and I knew it was time.”

While she was healthy, after two months of training, she realized she didn't have the strength or stamina to climb a mountain—who does?—so she needed to pivot. She realized that going to the gym alone wouldn’t be enough, so she fully committed to training, nutrition and hydration. Chandra rewired her approach through the BetterMe app and guidance from her coach, Daniella.

Four months later, in August of the year she turned 70, Chandra made the climb. Even with all of that preparation, she remembers that the climb was challenging, and understandably so. The altitude, long hours, scrambling over rocks, final push and her short stature of 5’1” tested her physically and mentally.

“On the final day, after nearly 12 hours of walking, I almost gave up,” she recalls. “I prayed, took a few steps at a time and reminded myself of the hard work I had put in and the people who were supporting me.”

Chandra works out five days a week, following a consistent, structured routine that focuses on both strength and stamina. “This routine has helped me stay strong, build endurance and prepare my body for long hikes and physically demanding challenges,” she says.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday

On these days, Chandra hits the gym. She starts with 30 minutes on the treadmill to get her steps in, then moves to the strength machines. Strength work includes the following: 

• 25 repetitions of the leg press
• 25 repetitions of the leg curl
• 25 repetitions of the shoulder press
• 25 repetitions of the bicep curl
• 25 repetitions of the lat pulldown

Tuesday and Thursday

These two in-between days are for group and functional workouts. Chandra participates in a one-hour group power-walking class, which she says improves her stamina and keeps her motivated. Additionally, she does Pilates-based wall exercises from the BetterMe app. This includes wall shoulder presses, leg swings and knee-to-chest movements; she performs each exercise for two sets of 10 repetitions.

“This weekly routine keeps me active, improves my endurance and allows me to continue doing the things I love, including hiking and trying new activities,” she says.

Along with regular exercise, Chandra stays healthy by eating more. Yep, you read that right! She used to skip meals—especially dinner—but doesn’t anymore.

“My coach helped me understand how important it is to fuel my body correctly and encouraged me to follow balanced meal plans,” Chandra says. “Adding dinner back into my routine was challenging at first, as I had not eaten three meals a day in years, but within days, I noticed improvements in my strength and stamina.”

Additionally, Chandra knows the benefits of a positive mindset when it comes to staying in shape. She enjoys being challenged and having meaningful goals to work toward.

Needless to say, her fitness journey is far from over. Still feeling strong, healthy, grateful and proud, she looks forward to future hikes, potentially even the Camino de Santiago. She also tries different sports out and has participated in skydiving, gliding, river rafting and more.

“My message to others is simple: Never assume you cannot do something because of your age,” Chandra says. “Take care of your health, stay active and give your best—you may surprise yourself.”

Alyssa Milano is still keeping busy in Hollywood all these years later. And in a new interview with AARP’s Movies for Grownups, the longtime actress, 53, revealed that she hasn't "had a panic attack in years" after living with anxiety for decades — a change she connects to finally understanding and treating her perimenopause symptoms.

The actress and activist is the executive producer of Balance: A Perimenopause Journey, a new four-part documentary that dropped on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV on Friday, Jan. 30. It follows women around the world as they navigate a life stage that affects tens of millions — yet remains widely misunderstood, under-diagnosed and culturally silenced. Milano's Instagram post featuring the trailer received an outpouring of support in the comments section. "Let’s make this type of documentary trend, please!! 🤞🏽," wrote one user, while another person commented in part, "I’m really glad this topic is being talked about. Sometimes it catches us by surprise because it’s hardly discussed at home, and many times we don’t even realize we’re going through it."

Milano described to AARP her years of intense symptoms, which include insomnia, brain fog, hot flashes, and anxiety, which went undiagnosed and were often dismissed.

“When I look at those lists of perimenopause symptoms now, I had every single one of them,” she told the magazine in an article published on Friday. “A week after starting hormone replacement therapy, I felt like a whole new person.”

With her newfound power, Milano says she has been writing a screenplay and now carves out some time for herself.

“After I did Chicago on Broadway, I rediscovered my love of dance," she told AARP. "So a bunch of my mommy friends get together every Tuesday night to dance. There’s a lot of resistance training in dance. There’s something so magical about coming together in community and moving your body.”

Parthenon Huxley, known for his solo work, producing and collaborating with alternative rock band Eels, and touring with ELO II, died on Jan. 30 at the age of 70.

According to a post on Facebook by his wife, Helle Huxley, he died in his sleep. No cause of death was given.

“This is Parthenon’s wife, Helle Huxley. I’m so sad to share the heartbreaking news that Parthenon passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning,” she wrote in the Jan. 30 post.

Born Richard Willett Miller in Baton Rouge, La., Huxley first gained notice in Chapel Hill, N.C. with the single “Buddha, Buddha, Buddha” in 1983. He later moved to Los Angeles after he was signed by Columbia Records, which released his debut album, Sunny Nights, in 1988. His adopted stage name reflected his love of Greek culture (he spent some of his youth in Athens, Greece) and author/philosopher Aldous Huxley.

He later spent time as a staff songwriter for MCA Music Publishing and worked with Mark Oliver Everett, the artist known as E and frontman of Eels, co-producing the albums A Man Called E and Broken Toy Shop, and co-writing the top 10 alternative hit “Goodbye Cruel World.”

Everett posted a tribute to Huxley on the Eels official Instagram account on Jan. 31.

“So sad to hear of the passing of my old friend Parthenon Huxley. He was a big part of my early days in Southern California. The first person I ever met who had put out a record. We wrote songs together and he produced my first album, A Man Called E. We kept in touch over the years and he joined us onstage at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland, one of the last shows of our latest tour, a full-circle moment I’m very grateful for. Parmesan Huntsley, as I knew him (I never could get his name quite right) was one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and we’ve had countless laughs over the years, starting with the endless pile of hilarious cartoons he drew at my expense while making A Man Called E. I already miss him. -E #parthenonhuxley,” he wrote.

In 1998, Huxley was recruited to join ELO Part II, an offshoot of the Electric Light Orchestra formed by original ELO drummer and co-founder Bev Bevan without ELO frontman Jeff Lynne. Huxley toured the world with the group, which was later renamed The Orchestra and continued to record several solo albums, including 2005’s Homemade Spaceship, 2006’s Mile High Fan, and his most recent effort, 2023’s As Good as Advertised.

He also penned an autobiography, Electric Light Odyssey: My Zigzag Life and the Iconic Band that Changed Everything, about his life in the music business.

Huxley is survived by his wife, Helle, and daughters, Fiona and Imogen; his mother, Phyllis; his older brothers, Tim, Tom, and Chuck.

Friends and fans left comments praising Huxley on Helle’s post announcing his death.

“A very great man and songwriter. I listen to his original music almost every day,” wrote one.

“I’m so sorry. He was a huge influence on me as a songwriter,” added another.

The comedy world is reeling from the news that icon Catherine O’Hara has died. Known for her indelible performances in Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, and Best in Show, to name a few, O’Hara was considered one of our comedy greats. Two Saturday Night Live alums were quick to share their heartache over O’Hara’s passing, joining the many fans, luminaries, and celebrities shocked by her untimely death.

In a post shared by Cheri Oteri, who dazzled audiences with her sidesplitting characters on Saturday Night Live from 1995–2000, she shared a tribute on her Instagram account, writing:

“What an inspiration. She carried a light with her comedy that you took in whenever you saw her. May perpetual light shine upon her beautiful soul. 💔”

Fans and fellow comedians were quick to offer condolences and their own reactions to the comedy legend’s death, including original Saturday Night Live cast member Laraine Newman, who wrote, “A true genius and an incomprehensible loss.”

Fans echoed the SNL alums’ sentiments, with one writing, “I’m simply devastated.” Another added, “I admired this woman. She was definitely in the class with Lucy and Carol.”

News of the comedy legend’s death was shared by the Creative Artists Agency on Friday, stating only that she had died after a “brief illness.”

A Legendary Career in Comedy

Considered one of the comedy greats, Catherine O’Hara is best known for her roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and Schitt’s Creek. The Canadian-American actress hosted Saturday Night Live twice, the first time in 1991 and a second time in 1992. O’Hara was actually hired as a cast member on the late-night sketch show in 1981 but lasted just one week. Feeling a loyalty to her original comedy troupe on SCTV (Second City Television), O’Hara left Saturday Night Live to return to SCTV.

Though Laraine Newman and Cheri Oteri were part of different Saturday Night Live eras, the two iconic comediennes were recently part of Sketch Fest in San Francisco, which brought together an illustrious group of women cast members of Saturday Night Live, including Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, and Julia Sweeney.
