Every element, from the geometric sophistication of the hexagonal tiles to the sweet Valentine’s details, is designed to celebrate love, friendship, and connection, making it a perfect centerpiece for Galentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or any occasion where heartfelt sentiment is the focus.

Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Fun Flavor News Is a Bright Spot This Winter

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:45pm

There is a reason seasonal desserts spark real anticipation. They show up for a short window, disappear just as quickly, and leave people hoping they will come back again.

Nothing Bundt Cakes does this particularly well. In the final weeks of the winter season, the bakery is bringing back a long-requested favorite while also debuting a limited pop-up flavor tied to one of the most talked-about dessert trends right now.

Nothing Bundt Cakes Brings Back Banana Pudding for a Limited Run

The Banana Pudding Cake is making its comeback after winning over fans in past seasons. The cake is built around classic comfort, starting with a banana-forward base with real banana purée and Mini NILLA Wafers, then finished with a creamy vanilla pudding filling and drizzle.

P

Nothing Bundt Cakes is offering the flavor in all cake sizes, making it an easy pick for everything from casual get-togethers to big celebrations. The limited run begins February 15 and runs through April 5, while supplies last.

For longtime fans, this return is the headline moment. Banana pudding has a nostalgic pull that translates especially well in late winter and early spring, as heavier desserts give way to lighter, familiar favorites.

A Dubai Chocolate-Inspired Pop-Up Bundtlet

While the Banana Pudding Cake anchors this limited-time list, the bakery’s most buzzed-about offering is the Dubai Chocolate Pop-Up flavor.

Inspired by the viral Dubai chocolate dessert trend, the new offering starts with the brand’s Chocolate Chocolate Chip cake. It is then filled with pistachio cream and shredded phyllo, topped with chocolate ganache cream cheese frosting, and finished with gold sprinkles.

It follows Nothing Bundt Cakes’ January debut of its first chocolate-frosted flavor, the New-Fashioned Marble Bundtlet, and adds another chocolate-forward moment to the evolving 2026 lineup.

The Pop-Up will be available March 2 through March 15 in Bundtlet size only.

“We’re bringing back a beloved classic by popular demand while introducing the flavor phenomenon that’s sweeping the nation. For us, it’s all about amplifying the joy in whatever our guests are celebrating,” said CEO Dolf Berle in a statement.

Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Chocolate Raspberry Heart for Valentine’s Day

Ahead of both spring releases, Nothing Bundt Cakes is also offering a Valentine’s Day exclusive. Available February 2 through February 15, the Chocolate Raspberry Heart Made with DOVE is a chocolate Bundtlet filled with raspberry purée, topped with cream cheese frosting, and finished with a DOVE chocolate heart. Like the Dubai Chocolate Pop-Up, this option is available in Bundtlet size only and for a limited time.

All three limited-time flavors will be available at Nothing Bundt Cakes bakeries nationwide, while supplies last.

Fans Spot Something Extra on Ariana Grande’s 'Vogue Japan' Cover

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:43pm

Look, when it comes to tonsils, Ariana Grande has pretty much the entire population beat. But digits? Who knew she was working an extra finger?

The Eternal Sunshine Deluxe artist graces the cover of Vogue Japan’s March 2026 issue. Photographed by Michael Bailey-Gates and styled by Law Roach, the pop princess channels Audrey Hepburn in looks by Balenciaga, Dior, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, and more. But there’s one photo in particular fans can’t unsee.

Perched against a wall in a buttery-yellow Dior skirt set covered in dainty pastel bouquets, Grande ever-so-lightly touches the wall – her left hand cradled in a sheer-fabric glove. It’s demure; it’s lovely; it’s Photoshopped? She definitely has an extra phalange between her pinky and ring finger.

View this post on Instagram

The image quickly went viral, with fan account @ourpinkwitchh initially asking, “Who's responsible for giving ariana 6 fingers.... 😭?”

The Wicked star was quick to respond.

“Holy sh–,” she wrote in the post’s comments section.

“Oh my goodness how exciting! I’ve been saying I need some extra appendages so that I can start an album! Thankful for this,” she wrote in another.

Thankfully, the gaffe has since been fixed on the Vogue Japan website

As for the interview within, Grande was candid and vulnerable, giving readers a peek into her inner life and artistic truth.

“I feel like there have been a lot of times when I’ve been doing my best work creatively, and yet my celebrity has been louder than the work,” she said, tears falling as she spoke. “And my mom has always been here to set the record straight in my head and remind me of my worth as an artist and as a human being every time that noise has almost derailed me.”

Loved on the screen as well, Grande was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked: For Good. The Oscars, however, did not come a’calling, causing many to chalk the snub up to one of the most egregious of all time. But you can be the judge on that.

Always on to the next, Grande has her Eternal Sunshine Tour to look forward to. Starting in June, she’ll be making her way across North America and London singing her albums Positions and Eternal Sunshine.

Dave Grohl and Wife Jordyn Blum Make Bold Red Carpet Statement After Cheating Scandal Rocked Marriage

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:40pm

It's been over a year since the world learned that Dave Grohl fathered a child outside his marriage, but now, it looks like it's all love between the Foo Fighters frontman and his wife of over 20 years, Jordyn Blum.

The pair was spotted on the red carpet together on Friday, Jan. 30, as they attended the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year event honoring Mariah Carey at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The couple looked comfortable and color coordinated as they posed for the cameras. Grohl sported monochromatic black pants, a black button-down shirt featuring silver buttons, and a black velvet jacket.

Blum dazzled in a structured, strapless black peplum top paired with a smoky, sheer midi skirt featuring black-and-white embroidered flowers and a pop of red.

This isn't the first time Grohl and Blum have been spotted together since he announced in September 2024 that he had fathered a child with another woman. In that statement, Grohl confessed, "I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness."

Foo Fighters fans were both shocked and disappointed in Grohl, and rumors about the future of his marriage didn't look good, but Grohl and Blum never separated.

Instead, they were spotted together a handful of times in 2025, including in July when they attended Wimbledon, sitting in the Royal Box on Day 3 of the annual tennis tournament. Then, they made their first red carpet appearance of 2025, and the first since Grohl admitted to fathering another child, when Grohl and Blum attended the Hope in The City Of Angels charity gala at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 18.

This latest red carpet appearance marks the first of 2026 for the longtime couple, who have three daughters of their own: Violet, 19, Harper, 16, and Ophelia, 10.

Dave Grohl Collaborated With Taylor Momsen for the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year Event

While on hand for the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year event that honored Carey, Foo Fighters took to the stage with special guest Taylor Momsen to treat the audience.

Together, they performed songs from the '90s grunge offering Someone's Ugly Daughter. The album was released in 1995 by Chick, with Carey's friend, Clarissa Dane, singing lead.

Carey's involvement in the Chick project wasn't known until her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, when she revealed that she wrote, produced, and sang background vocals for the '90s grunge project, though her vocals were not included in the 1995 album release.

The 10 Most Important Black TV Shows of All Time

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:30pm

Abbott Elementary. Atlanta. The Chi. Queen Sugar. The Other Black Girl. Swarm. There’s no doubt about it—we’re in the midst of the Golden Age of Black television.

“The last few years have been very pivotal in terms of Black creators doing really interesting things on TV,” says Bethonie Butler, author of the 2023 bookBlack TV: Five Decades of Groundbreaking Television from Soul Train to Black-ish and Beyond. “That’s why it’s a good time to look back at the last 50, 60 years and see how far we’ve come.”

Indeed, the wealth of fresh content is the culmination of an undeniably long struggle for Black artists to find a voice and fight for representation.

Though Black performers have appeared on television for as long as the small screen has been around—Broadway star Ethel Waters hosted a one-off variety show on NBC in June 1939 when television was still in its infancy—quality roles took decades to develop. Most actors were relegated to playing servants or service workers.

The first Black sitcom, Amos ‘n’ Andy, originated from a radio program in which two white men portrayed the Black characters. When adapted to TV in 1951 with a Black cast, the actors behaved like caricatures and spoke with a broad dialect, relying heavily on stereotypical malapropisms. Meanwhile, 1960s stalwarts from The Andy Griffith Show to Bewitched featured zero diversity.

But as TV (and the culture) evolved, Black characters became more prominent and influential. And the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Ava DuVernay and Issa Rae, who grew up watching popular shows like The Jeffersons, Family Matters, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Sister, Sister—which captured Black people in various lights and occupations—eventually entered the business and elevated the medium.

“They’re telling our own stories on TV and doing it in a way that’s authentic and reflects our experiences and not necessarily what networks are telling them to put on the screen,” Butler says. While she acknowledges that the state of Black TV still isn’t perfect, “we’re definitely headed in the right direction.”

So how did we get to this Golden Age, and what does the future look like? Butler covers many more shows in her book, but here’s her rundown for Parade of the 10 most important Black TV shows in history.

Most Important Black TV Shows in History Julia

Getty Images

1. Julia (ABC, 1968–71)

Premise: Julia Baker (Diahann Carroll) is a nurse who relocates to Los Angeles after her husband gets killed fighting in Vietnam. Now she’s raising her five-year-old son, Corey (Marc Copage), on her own. Paul Winfield, Don Marshall and Fred Williamson appeared over the years as memorable suitors.

Why it matters: The pioneering sitcom—which premiered just months after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.—“was the first time we saw a Black family on TV,” Butler says. “And Julia herself was such a hardworking nurse and mom. It got us over the hump because it showed that you could actually tell our stories.” Carroll made history in 1969 as the first Black actor to be nominated for an Emmy and won a Golden Globe that same year.

Behind the scenes: On the very first day of the show’s production, Carroll was dismayed that the studio’s makeup department couldn’t provide any products suitable for her skin tone. “The studio had only dealt with the little American girls or European girls,” Carroll, who died in 2019, once said. “How could you have a makeup department and you don’t have makeup for every skin in the United States of America?”

Good Times

Getty Images

2. Good Times (CBS, 1974–79)

Premise: In the spinoff of Maude from producer Norman Lear, the Evans family tries to make it work in the Cabrini-Green housing projects of Chicago. James (John Amos) and Florida (Esther Rolle) are the working-class parents raising their three kids—including the lively J.J. (Jimmie Walker). They’d also get visits from their neighbor Willona (Ja’Net DuBois) and superintendent Bookman (Johnny Brown).

Why it matters: Though Butler says the sitcom wasn’t “necessarily told in the most authentic way all the time,” she commends its impact: “I know [Black-ish creator] Kenya Barris has talked about how much he loved it and respected Norman Lear. And back when there were just a few networks, this show was very popular and everybody was watching.” Even Walker’s “Dy-no-mite!” catchphrase became a national obsession.

Behind the scenes: After the show started to focus on Walker’s character, tensions among the cast began to boil over. “By the end of the third season, John Amos was so glum and dispirited that it seemed impossible to go on,” Lear wrote in his 2014 memoir. “[So] we decided to write him off the show.” Amos himself admitted to Jet in 2008, “I wasn’t the most diplomatic guy in those days.”

Must-watch episode: “The Dinner Party” (Season 2, Episode 19)

Roots

Getty Images

3. Roots (ABC, 1977)

Premise: Based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family, the eight-part miniseries revolves around the lead character Kunta Kinte (LeVar Burton) as he’s taken from Gambia, West Africa, and sold into slavery in America. The sprawling story consists of his experiences and the generations that follow.

Why it matters: The Emmy-winning drama, which aired consecutively from Jan. 23 through Jan. 30, was unusual at the time for its graphic, violent depiction of slavery and racial injustice. “It was the first time Americans of any race really saw the horrors of slavery,” Butler says. “And everyone was talking about it.” That’s no exaggeration—its final episode was viewed by more than 100 million people, representing nearly 85 percent of television households at the time.

Behind the scenes: Burton was a 19-year-old theater major at USC when he auditioned for Kunta Kinte—his first professional audition ever. Remembering the series, he said on Twitter in 2021, “My first day on the set, legendary [Cicely Tyson] played my mother, Bings Kinte. [Maya Angelou] played my grandmother, Nyo Boto. I was in the big leagues. The sole reason I wasn’t intimidated was the actor’s certainty that I KNEW who the character was. I knew that kid. I was that kid!”

The Cosby Show

NBC

4. The Cosby Show (NBC, 1984–92)

Premise: The Huxtables are a well-to-do family living in a Brooklyn brownstone. Cliff (Bill Cosby) is a doctor; his wife Clair (Phylicia Rashad) is a hard-charging lawyer. They also have five kids, including stylish rebel Denise (Lisa Bonet) and precocious Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam). The parenthood struggle is all too real ... and hilarious.

Why it matters: When the mega-smash sitcom premiered in the fall of 1984, “A whole generation started watching a Black family on TV in a way that wasn’t stereotypical,” Butler says. “Cliff and Clair were upwardly mobile and had a real partnership in the way they raised their children. It was a wonderful show.” However, she notes that Cosby’s recent assault allegations have cast a pall on its legacy: “Unfortunately, I think it’s impossible to separate The Cosby Show from Bill Cosby and his behavior as a person.”

Behind the scenes: All five of the Huxtable children were based on Cosby’s actual children. The character of Theo (portrayed by Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who died in 2025) was inspired by his late son, Ennis—as was his dyslexia diagnosis. “I’m still proud of its legacy,” Warner said in 2023. “The family dynamic was one that practically every family—no matter the ethnicity, socioeconomic status or even family makeup—could find something to relate to.”

Must-watch episode: “Happy Anniversary” (Season 2, Episode 3)

In Living Color

Fox

5. In Living Color (Fox, 1990–94)

Premise: The irreverent variety show created by and starring Keenen Ivory Wayans featured a predominantly Black cast, including future breakouts Damon Wayans, David Alan Grier and Jamie Foxx. Plus, Jennifer Lopez was a Fly Girl dancer. It also propelled the then-fledgling Fox network to new pop-culture heights.

Why it matters: Thanks to outrageous characters like Homey D. Clown, Wanda Wayne and Men on Films, the show boldly went where Saturday Night Live wouldn’t dare. In prime time, no less. “This was a show that brought in a lot of Black and Brown comedians who had been working for years and never got the spotlight,” Butler says. “So there was something inherently Black about the humor that you weren’t going to get from SNL.”

Behind the scenes: By the series’ third season in 1992, it had so much clout that Fox decided to run a live special as counter-programming to the more conservative Super Bowlhalftime show. Among the sketches: “Men on Football” with sexual innuendos galore. “There was a Fox executive in the booth with a 60-second delay button and they could have hit the button anytime they wanted,” Keenen Ivory Wayans said in 2019. “But they wanted the controversy.” The next year, the Super Bowl hired Michael Jackson to perform at halftime.

Must-watch episode: Pilot (Season 1, Episode 1)

Living Single

Fox

6. Living Single (Fox, 1993–98)

Premise: Queen Latifah is Khadijah James, the mastermind behind a monthly magazine. She lives it up in Brooklyn with her cousin Synclaire (Kim Coles) and friend, would-be diva Regine (Kim Fields). Pitbull lawyer Max (Erika Alexander), handyman Overton (John Henton) and stockbroker Kyle (Terrence C. Carson) round out the bunch.

Why it matters: A year before Friends, this sitcom featured six upscale twenty-somethings relying on each other while trying to make it in New York City. There was one noticeable difference, of course. “This is a really important show because it highlighted another universal experience, which is friendship,” Butler says. “It was meaningful to watch young Black professionals have this dynamic group. And the women were people you knew.”

Behind the scenes: At the end of the pilot, the ladies grab bathroom appliances and sing and dance to “My Girl.” It wasn’t a coincidence, as the show was originally titled My Girls. The show’s creator, Yvette Lee Bowser, also handpicked each member of the main cast: “Knowing who I wanted those characters to be, I built the ensemble around them,” she said in 2023. Queen Latifah and Coles came onboard early because of their development deals.

Must-watch episode: “Great Expectations” (Season 1, Episode 6)

Moesha

UPN

7. Moesha (UPN, 1996–2001)

Premise: Brandy plays the show’s titular character, a teen living with her middle-class family in South Central with her younger brother, Myles (Marcus T. Paulk), father Frank (William Allen Young) and his new wife, Dee (Sheryl Lee Ralph). Moesha also has a circle of friends—including the chatty Kim (Countess Vaughn)—and loves to frequent The Den.

Why it matters: One of UPN’s biggest hits took on important issues like race, drugs, sex and infidelity. It also starred one of the hottest pop singers of her day. “Adolescence can be a pretty awful experience and it can be detrimental to not see that reflected on TV; this was the exception,” Butler says. “To be a fan of Brandy and then see her as Moesha navigating her life was very meaningful to a lot of Black girls.”

Behind the scenes: There was palpable strife between Brandy and breakout star Vaughn, who later got her own spinoff with The Parkers. Per a 1998 Ebony interview, Vaughn even called the singer a “B---h” during filming. The bad blood went on for years until Vaughn wrote an open apology letter on Instagram in 2015. Brandy responded with, “You are beautiful to me. Always have been and always will be!”

Must-watch episode: “Model Employee” (Season 3, Episode 18)

Scandal

Getty Images

8. Scandal (ABC, 2012–18)

Premise: Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is a sharply dressed Washington D.C. fixer with a penchant for yelling “It’s handled!” when asked to perform any task. Each week, Olivia and her “gladiators” at her crisis-management firm tackle a different case, using major spin to cover up affairs and even the occasional killing. She’s also in love with the President of the United States (Tony Goldwyn).

Why it matters: During its heyday, the juicy drama created by powerhouse producer Shonda Rhimes was a did-you-see-it social sensation. Emphasis on drama. “There were so few Black dramas for decades because the emphasis was placed on comedy and people in outrageous situations,” Butler says. “But with Shonda Rhimes at the helm, she felt a responsibility to show a flawed Black woman doing her thing day in and day out.” Washington was also nominated for two Emmys.

Behind the scenes: Both Taraji P. Henson and Gabrielle Union were in top contention for the role of Olivia before Washington nabbed it. But there are no hard feelings. Said Union in 2013, “It’s very rare to have a Black female lead who gets to do stuff ... So to have the opportunity to even audition for a role like that was awesome. And Kerry does such an amazing job.” Henson added in 2015, “When I went in to read for Shonda Rhimes, in my mind I was like, ‘This is Kerry Washington. Why am I even in here?’ ... It was her job and she’s great in it.”

Must-watch episode: “It’s Handled” (Season 3, Episode 1)

Insecure

HBO

9. Insecure (HBO, 2016–21)

Premise: Two modern-day Black women (played by co-creator and writer Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji)—best friends since graduating from Stanford—juggle work and a myriad ofrelationships in their South L.A. neighborhood.

Why it matters: In a refreshing update on Living Single, the comedy—loosely based on Rae’s acclaimed web series Awkward Black Girl—portrayed relatable characters and highlighted the subtleties of everyday life through friendship, romances and careers. It also took on headier issues like mental health and race. “This is a depiction of being young and figuring out what it means to be an adult,” Butler explains. For Black Millennials, “It resonated in a special way.”

Behind the scenes: Orji said in 2020 that she first interacted with Rae after writing her on Twitter to say she was a fan of Awkward Black Girl. The actress says that Rae responded and invited her to her wine and game night at her house. “Of course I get to her house and her friends are like, ‘What? Issa is inviting people to the house off Twitter?’” she said. By the time she auditioned for Insecure, “We weren’t best friends, but we had a rapport.”

Must-watch episode: “High-Like” (Season 3, Episode 5)

Abbott Elementary

ABC/Gilles Mingasson

10. Abbott Elementary (ABC, 2021–)

Premise: For this mockumentary-style workplace comedy, a group of dedicated teachers are brought together in a Philadelphia public school. Despite the odds stacked against them, they’re determined to help their students succeed. Taking the lead: writer Quinta Brunson’s optimistic second-grade teacher, Janine Teagues.

Why it matters: “It goes back to Quinta,” says Butler of the Emmy-winning writer, creator and star. “She created a personal story inspired by her own experiences at school and is able to tell a story that’s really funny and touching to everyone—not just Black people. It shows how far we’ve come in presenting authentic Black stories and recognizing talent.”

Behind the scenes: Yes, Brunson has said that her mother’s 40-year career as a schoolteacher inspired her to create the show. Sheryl Lee Ralph’s character is based on Mom, and the title is a tribute to her elementary school teacher, Joyce Abbott. But she’s not here to impart hard lessons: “I simply want to make people laugh,” she said in 2022. “That’s all I’m here for. Which is the beauty of the 22-minute sitcom: It can only do so much.”

How John Ritter and Suzanne Somers Quietly Reconciled Before His Sudden Death

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:09pm

In a resurfaced interview from the podcast Still Here Hollywood With Steve Kmetko, actress Amy Yasbeck is sharing a little-known story that longtime Three’s Company fans may find especially meaningful—a brief, unexpected reunion between her late husband John Ritter and his former co-star Suzanne Somers, who left Three's Company over a reported salary dispute.

The moment unfolded during a Broadway night out at Victor/Victoria. During intermission, Yasbeck ran into Somers in the ladies’ room and introduced herself, then told Somers she would "make sure" Ritter said hi at the after-party where Somers was performing.

RELATED: John Ritter’s Widow and Lookalike Son Make Rare Public Appearance Together

Back at her seat, Yasbeck decided to give Ritter a heads-up. “I went back to my seat, and I said… ‘John, who’s the last person you would want to see here?’” His first guess missed the mark. “He went, ‘Oh s--t Bochco’s here?’ … I went, ‘No, Suzanne.’”

Yasbeck remembers Ritter physically reacting to the news. “He just like, sat down… he was like, OK.” Though he stayed through the rest of the show, the possibility of a reunion clearly lingered.

'Can’t Dance, Don’t Ask Me'

Later that night, Somers performed “Can’t Dance, Don’t Ask Me” at the after-party, and Yasbeck says the song became an opening. “I think he went up to her—she was talking to somebody—and he said, 'Can't dance, don't ask me,' And he like, turned around and they hugged it out and stuff, which was great. It was a big thing."

Looking back, Yasbeck is careful to downplay any intentional reconciliation. “I didn’t do it a sneaky way,” she said, adding, "I think they were great together. But I don't think they ever maybe 'got' each other, like where each other was coming from [after Somers left the show]…John wasn't able to—he didn't ever want to talk about it."

Instead, Ritter chose grace. “He didn’t want to refute anything that Suzanne was saying or get into any kind of a weird thing,” Yasbeck said. “He just loved her, you know?”

Both Ritter and Somers have since died. Ritter died unexpectedly in September 2003 at the age of just 54 from an undiagnosed aortic dissection while starring on the sitcom8 Simple Rules opposite Katey Sagal and Kaley Cuoco. Somers died 20 years later at the age of 76 after a long battle with breast cancer.

“It was sad when she passed. It was sad when John passed away,” Yasbeck reflected. “Because that’s then 20 years [lost]. Lost for like a friendship or any kind of furthering of a reunion. But she was great. She was a great, super strong woman and did a lot in also being her own health advocate. So, I thought she was cool."

February Is Black History Month! What Are the Black History Month Colors, and What Do They Mean?

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 1:00pm

February is Black History Month, a time to pay tribute to the achievements of African Americans throughout U.S. history. It has been celebrated since 1976 but actually started back in 1926 with Negro History Week. This is when historian Carter G. Woodson decided to showcase the contributions of Black history, which eventually led to Black History Month.

During this month, the focus is on learning about Black culture, influential leaders and significant historical events. Learning about Black History Month's colors is one way to do this.

Each year, as Black History Month is celebrated, there are four colors that you'll likely see incorporated into brands' logos, Facebook profile picture themes, flags flying outside of homes and businesses or featured in windows, social media content and more.

These four colors for Black History Month offer individuals and groups the opportunity to show solidarity, as well as pride, by paying tribute to (and honoring) the achievements and history of African Americans.

So what are the colors of Black History Month? We'll go over the four colors and explain what they signify.

Black History Month Colors and Their Meanings

Black History Month uses four colors—black, red, green and yellow—to symbolize unity and pride. Each of the four colors has its own distinct meaning and significance.

The colors of Black History Month are also the colors of many African flags, which have been derived from the Ethiopian flag, as well as the Pan-African flag. Each set has three colors; Ethiopia uses the colors red, yellow and green, which are used to represent the rainbow, while the Pan-African flag contains the colors red, black and green.

The Pan-African flag was created in 1920 to represent the unity of African people no matter where they live and to symbolize Black liberation in the United States. The Ethiopian flag was inspired by the rainbow and is used by several of the other 53 African countries.

Although the Pan-African flag contains the three colors of red, black and green, yellow was borrowed and added to the Black History Month colors from the Ethiopian flag. The four colors are a combination of the two sets of Pan-African colors.

Marcus Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Assn. (UNIA) in 1914, which "encouraged the formation of separate institutions out of pride, not because of discrimination." Garvey "emphasized black unity based on shared African heritage."

And in a book published by the UNIA in 1921, this is what was written about the significance of three of the four colors used for Black History Month: "Red is the color of the blood which men must shed for their redemption and liberty; black is the color of the noble and distinguished race to which we belong; green is the color of the luxuriant vegetation of our Motherland."

  • Black: Represents the resilient people whose existence as a nation is honored and affirmed by the existence of a flag.
  • Red: Symbolizes the blood of innocent Black lives that have been shed throughout history.
  • Yellow: Stands for optimism, justice and equality for everyone.
  • Green: Symbolizes Africa's rich greenery and other natural resources.

The world is mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara, and her fellow comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short raised a glass in tribute to her during the comedy show the night of her death.

“Catherine O’Hara I met when she was 18 years of age,” Short, 75, said during a comedy show on Friday, January 30. “All these years later, she’s been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with so, God bless Catherine.”

He and Martin, 80, then toasted to O’Hara as the audience erupted into cheers and applause.

The Beetlejuice star’s passing shocked fans on January 30, with TMZ the first to report the news. Page Six later said O’Hara had experienced a brief illness, while TMZ reported she was transported to the hospital in "serious condition" just hours earlier.

Since news broke of her passing, tributes from fans and costars alike have flooded in. Eugene Levy, who was very close with O’Hara for over 50 years, told People that “words seemed inadequate to describe the loss” he felt when he learned of her death.

"From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on Schitt's Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship," the American Pie star, 79, continued. “And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O'Hara family.”

His son, Dan Levy, who also starred in Schitt’s Creek with O’Hara, echoed his dad’s sentiments in an emotional message shared via Instagram.

I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."

As tributes continue to pour in, no cause of death has been officially released, and her representative told People that the family plans to celebrate her life in a private ceremony.

Fashion Influencer Danielle Bernstein Shares New Update After Breakup From Fiancé Cooper Weisman

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 12:34pm

Fashion influencer Danielle Bernstein is offering a personal update after confirming her split from former fiancé Cooper Weisman.

One day after announcing the breakup, the WeWoreWhat founder returned to Instagram Stories on Saturday, January 31 with a simple message: “rly appreciate the kindness and support,” paired with a heart emoji. The post showed Bernstein sitting cross-legged on the floor in pajamas.

Bernstein also shared glimpses of how she’s spending her time in the immediate aftermath of the split. In one Story, she wrote “family weekend” over a serene photo of snowy water, signaling she had stepped away from the city. She later posted additional photos and videos of herself playing with a small child and a puppy.

The 33-year-old first confirmed the breakup on Friday January 30, explaining why she had chosen to keep the situation private until then. “I’ve been quiet about my personal life, and wasn’t ready to speak on it until now. We’re stepping away from our relationship with love and respect,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. She was clear that the decision wasn’t driven by scandal or a single incident, noting there was “no big dramatic reason” and that they ultimately weren’t “the right forever.”

She also asked followers for understanding during the transition. “I’m not sure what the future holds, but this choice took courage. I would really appreciate privacy and grace for both of us during this time. Thank you for the support,” she added.

The breakup came just a few months after the couple’s lavish engagement party in October 2025, which Bernstein documented extensively on social media. Online speculation had swirled in recent weeks, with some Reddit users theorizing about prenuptial disagreements, though Bernstein has not addressed those claims. Weisman proposed to Bernstein back in June 2025.

At this time, Bernstein's rep has not responded to Parade’s request for comment.

The Best Way To Store Homemade Bread, According to Pro Bakers

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 12:32pm

There’s something deeply satisfying about making your own bread. The measuring, mixing, kneading and baking is nothing short of kitchen magic—especially when the temperature is frigid outside. Slicing into a pretty loaf that you made yourself is rewarding and is also the way to guarantee a next-level piece of toast.

After all of that work, you want to make sure you protect your homemade goodies the right way to help them stay fresh as long as possible, but figuring out how to store homemade bread can be a bit confusing, and everyone seems to do it differently. Some people swear by the refrigerator. Others insist on paper bags, plastic bags, kitchen towels or even those fancy little bread boxes. Then there’s always the question about storing your bread in the freezer, slicing versus not slicing...and suddenly baking a simple loaf feels far more complicated than it should.

The truth is that homemade bread just behaves differently from store-bought bread, and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it's one of the main reasons people love to make their bread from scratch. No preservatives, additives or ingredients you can't pronounce—it's a total win! Fresh bread is alive in a way packaged loaves are not.

First of all, it’s still releasing moisture, its starches are continuing to change and its shelf life depends heavily on the type of bread you’ve baked—sourdough, banana bread and that beautiful braided challah shouldn't be stored the same. To help answer all of these questions, Parade went straight to the pros.

We tapped Ellen King, co-owner and director of baking operations at Hewn, the Evanston, IL-based bakery that was Food & Wine and Food Network's winner for best bread bakery in America and Gonzalo Lanao Tapia, vice president of retail & bakery operations at fan-favorite, award-winning Bread Alone bakery out of the Hudson Valley, New York region.

With their expert tips and tricks, you can keep your precious loaves fresher and more delicious longer. Bonus: Their advice can also help you protect those beautiful breads you pick up at your local bakery or farmers' market. That's what we'd call a real breadwinner!

How Long Will Homemade Bread Stay Fresh?

According to Tapia, how long homemade bread stays fresh depends on both the type of bread and how it was made. "Most lean artisan loaves are at their best for one to two days at room temperature, while softer enriched breads can hold quality for three to five days," he tells Parade.

King points out that the leavening method plays a major role, explaining, "If the bread is exclusively made with a sourdough starter, it should last four to five days (covered). If it's made with instant yeast, it will go stale within one to two days."

Tapia says that homemade bread tends to decline faster than store-bought bread because it doesn’t contain preservatives or anti-staling additives, and it usually isn’t sealed as tightly or as quickly after baking. Nothing's wrong—that faster aging is normal and expected when it comes to a homemade loaf.

What Causes Homemade Bread To Go Bad?

Staling and mold are often lumped together, but they’re caused by different factors. "Staling is caused by the recrystallization and rearrangement of starches, which makes the crumb firm over time," says Tapia. This process is largely unavoidable at room temperature.

Environmental conditions matter, too.

"Exposure to the air will dry it out quicker in some cases, especially in the winter when it is less humid," King says, which is why uncovered bread on the counter can deteriorate faster than expected.

Tapia also notes that pre-slicing your bread and then letting it hang out on the counter at room temperature isn't the best idea. "The less surface area exposed, the better the bread will stay fresh," he says. "If a loaf is sliced, it should be stored in the freezer and slices should be pulled as needed."

Mold is a separate issue altogether. "Mold...comes from fungal spores and is related to moisture and environmental conditions rather than staling," Tapia shares. High moisture, trapped humidity and warm environments create ideal conditions for mold growth, especially in breads with added sugars or fruit.

Understanding this distinction is key to storing bread well. The goal isn’t just to delay staling, but to manage air and moisture in a way that keeps bread enjoyable for as long as possible.

And the one mistake both experts see a lot of home bakers make? Storing your bread in the fridge. "For most breads, especially lean, crusty loaves, the refrigerator is the ideal temperature to accelerate the staling process," Tapia explains. The one exception? "High-moisture quick breads," says Tapia (think banana bread). "Refrigeration can help slow mold growth if freezing is not an option."

The Best Ways To Store Homemade Bread, According to Pro Bakers

Not all types of bread are the same, which is why it's important to choose the right storage method for the type of bread you have. Here are the expert tips you need to know.

How to store sourdough bread

Sourdough bread lasts longer than many other breads thanks to its natural acidity. "The lactic and acetic acids found in sourdough inhibit mold growth, which allows it to last longer than many other breads," Tapia shares. That said, sourdough can still stale, even if it doesn’t mold right away.

King agrees that sourdough has built-in staying power, explaining, "A sourdough starter adds acidity to the bread (and naturally leavens/ferments) and will naturally preserve the bread for four to five days if stored in a sealed container." She adds that refrigerating sourdough never makes sense, while freezing is a smart option if you can’t finish the loaf.

How to store sandwich bread

Olga Shumytskaya via Getty Images

Soft sandwich bread should be stored at room temperature in an airtight container or bag once it is fully cooled. This helps prevent both drying out and mold growth. If the bread won’t be used within a few days, Tapia recommends slicing it and storing it in the freezer, where slices can be pulled as needed. (If you're toasting the bread, you can put it straight in the toaster from the freezer.)

King goes another route with sandwich bread: "I love bread boxes, but the best way to store bread is investing in a Bees Wrap cloth [a cotton wrap infused with beeswax]. This is hands down the best way to keep bread fresh for several days. I will wrap the bread in it and then place it in a bread box," she tells Parade.

How to store enriched breads

Enriched breads (like brioche, challah or pain de mie) are designed to stay soft, so airtight storage is essential. Bread boxes offer a good balance by reducing drying but allowing some air circulation and plastic bags keep the bread soft by trapping moisture. However, plastic can encourage mold if the bread isn't fully cooled, so make sure that your loaves are room temperature before you wrap them up.

How to store banana bread

Banana bread often looks sturdy, but it actually spoils faster than many other breads. "Banana bread has a high moisture content and a high level of natural sugars, which creates an ideal environment for mold growth," explains Tapia.

King notes that banana bread has a shorter shelf life at room temperature than other breads, so be prepared to eat it pretty quickly. "It should last four days wrapped on your counter," she says. Beyond that, tighter wrapping and colder storage (AKA the freezer) help to prevent mold.

How to store crusty bread and baguettes

Tapia says that, unlike enriched breads, crusty bread or baguettes can be stored in paper bags and kitchen towels. This is helpful if you want to protect the crust, but they won't keep bread soft for long.

A note here: Crusty loaves and baguettes seem to go stale overnight, but what’s often happening isn’t true staling. "Much of what people experience overnight is moisture migration rather than true staling," Tapia says. As bread releases moisture, it moves from the crumb into the crust, softening it. This happens especially quickly in baguettes because of their high crust-to-crumb ratio.

And when it comes to reviving baguettes, the pros have differing opinions.

Tapia says reheating with a light mist of water and a hot oven can restore crispness and improve the quality of a hard baguette. "While it will never be exactly the same as the first cooling," he says, "many breads develop deeper flavor as they age, and the results can be surprisingly good."

King has a slightly different take. "I will use a day-old baguette for toast or make bread crumbs with it," she says, saying that a baguette is meant to be eaten the same day, preferably within a few hours out of the oven. "Some breads have to be respected and appreciated the same day, and that is what makes them so special."

Holly Hunter Reveals the Unexpected Challenge of Her New ‘Star Trek’ Role

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 12:13pm

Actress Holly Hunterhas been donning a Starfleet uniform for her newest role as Nahla Ake in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which premiered in January 2026.

Hunter spoke about playing the Starfleet Academy chancellor, who happens to have quite a long lifespan due to being half-Lanthanite, during a January 30 interview onThe Kelly Clarkson Show, hosted by Kelly Clarkson. During the interview, Hunter told Clarkson that she remembered watching some of Star Trek: The Original Series when it first aired in the 1960s. She said, however, that she wasn't a fan of the science fiction franchise before being cast as Nahla. The actress explained that her lack of Star Trek knowledge made learning the franchise's terminology challenging.

"It's like, 'How do I pronounce this?' These are words that I've never heard of before. Some of them are definitely made up. Some of them are in the Trek, you know, terminology. And I'm not a Trekkie, so a lot of them I didn't know," explained Hunter on the talk show.

She clarified that she was eventually able to get used to the dialogue.

"I had to really verse myself in that language. Just real repetition. And then it was just so much fun," said Hunter during the January 30 interview.

Hunter also said that while her character is the head of Starfleet Academy, she views herself as an equal to her co-stars, even if they are playing academy students. She explained that while she has been in the entertainment industry longer than her younger castmates, they are still all learning from each other.

"Even though they're much younger than I am, I didn't care. they're my fellow actors. They are my coworkers," said Hunter in the interview. "We are cohorts, we are shoulder to shoulder. I didn't wanna take an advisory position, or a punitive. None of that. I'm learning alongside these young actors. And they're teaching me stuff, so it was a beautiful collaboration."

New episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy air on Thursdays on Paramount+.

On July 22, 2025, the world lost a music legend when Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76. Tributes flew in from across the globe, but the most emotional one of all could very likely happen on the Grammy stage. The performance will feature rock legends like Guns N' Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith.

Joining them will be Post Malone, who collaborated with Osbourne on 2019's "Take What You Want" and 2020's "It's a Raid." Completing the tribute will be Andrew Watt—a very close friend and collaborator during the last chapter of Osbourne's career—who produced his final two solo albums.

While "Abracadabra” is nominated for three Grammys and “Disease” got one nod, that doesn't necessarily mean Gaga will perform either of them at the ceremony. If you remember, at the 2025 Grammys, she and Bruno Mars were nominated for their collaboration, "Die With a Smile." However, they chose to perform a stripped-down cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'" instead—and dedicate it to the California wildfire survivors.

3. Justin Bieber A throwback to Bieber's first-ever Grammys performance in 2011.

The 2026 Grammys mark Bieber's fourth performance at the annual awards show, and he's also nominated in four categories: Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Swag, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Daisies" and Best R&B Performance for "Yukon"

4. ROSÉ & Bruno Mars Rosé will make history as the first-ever solo Kpop artist to perform at the Grammys.

They released what's arguably the most high-energy record of the year with "APT." So we wouldn't be surprised to see ROSÉ and Bruno Mars open this year's Grammys with the dance-inducing track, nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. In 2025, Bruno and Gaga were nominated in the same category for "Die With a Smile" and ultimately won. Will history repeat itself?

For her 2025 Grammy stage debut, Carpenter dazzled viewers with a jazzy medley of her two biggest hits: "Espresso" and "Please Please Please." That's why we're predicting she'll perform "Manchild," which is nominated for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

And after being created in 1967, this flag is now embraced by Black Americans celebrating and honoring America's Black culture.

You will typically see the Black American Heritage Flag flown during Black History Month, if not year-round. And although the flag does not include all of the colors used to represent Black History Month, each color in this flag and its symbol has a distinct meaning.

Learn all about the Black American Heritage Flag as we look at the details of what the flag stands for, who designed it and why it needed to be created.

What Is the Meaning of the Black American Heritage Flag?

— Melekym (@chosenfew850) November 10, 2022

The Black American Heritage Flag represents the pride and accomplishments of Black Americans. But it is even more than that. Along with celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans, this flag also symbolizes the struggles and pain that were endured throughout history. In remembering both the accomplishments and the pain, this flag was created as a way to make progress and offer hope to Black Americans.

The flag consists of red and black with a distinct gold symbol. Its design involved a lot of thought, and each part had a significant meaning. Like the colors for Black History Month, red represents the innocent blood shed by Black Americans throughout America's history and black signifies pride in the Black race. The color gold, in the symbol, represents intellect, prosperity and peace. And the symbol itself—made up of a blunted sword and a fig wreath—has its own meaning. The sword is meant to instill pride, and the fig wreath symbolizes peace, prosperity and everlasting life.

Who Designed the Black American Heritage Flag?

Happy New Year from the family of Melvin Charles. Cheers to 2023 and the new goals and plans for the #blackamericanheritageflag #movingforward #HappyNewYear2023 pic.twitter.com/BHeoRRFdYS

— The Black American Heritage Flag (@blackflag1967) January 1, 2023

Melvin Charles and Gleason T. Jackson designed the flag in 1967. However, their inspiration began much earlier, when Charles realized that other groups of people, like those with Italian and Hispanic heritage, had a flag at parades, while African Americans did not. Charles and Jackson put a lot of thought, research and intentionality into creating the Black American Heritage Flag, as Charles discussed with PBS

Charles also wrote a book called The Rallying Point. In it, he describes the struggle to promote the Black American Heritage Flag. It details all of the ups and downs that Charles and Jackson went through while attempting to promote the flag. Their story is a lesson in perseverance against all odds.

As Charles says in the book, "That we have survived at all is testimony to that strength and greatness and that survival is warrant enough to justify finding pride in who we are. The flag was meant to symbolize that pride. It still does." To read their story and learn more about how the flag came to be, you can find the details in their book.

Why Was the Black American Heritage Flag Created?

In general, flags are used as a visual symbol of a cause or identity. The use of flags goes all the way back to ancient Roman times, representing military affiliations on the battlefield.

Today, flags are used to unite and remember the past. Each country can turn to its respective flag to feel that sense of solidarity and loyalty to its homeland. For this very reason, the Black American Heritage Flag was created.

LeAnn Rimes and Jessica Capshaw 'Emotionally Sabotage' Fans With 'Traumatic' 'Grey's Anatomy' Nod: 'How Dare You'

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 11:40am

LeAnn Rimes and Jessica Capshaw have taken a break from their onscreen rivalry to have a little fun at their fans' expense, stirring up "a little emotional sabotage" with a "traumatizing" new social media video targeting Grey's Anatomy viewers.

On the set of 9-1-1: Nashville, Capshaw rested on a hospital bed with her eyes closed, while Rimes sat on a stool at her side and belted out “The Story”—the same song that Sara Ramirez’s Callie sang as her spirit watched over her fellow doctors fighting to save her life after being thrown through a windshield.

Capshaw lay with her hands clasped over her waist and her eyes closed until Rimes broke out of the song, placing her arms on the edge of the bed and pleading, “Wake up, Blythe.”

Capshaw popped up, joking, “I’ve seen the light!” before the two celebrated their successful take at “drama, nostalgia, and a little emotional sabotage.”

But, seeing as Rimes’ Dixie and Capshaw’s Blythe are not on the friendliest of terms, the two quickly switched back into the mode of having to “hate each other again,” with Rimes throwing her middle finger up at Capshaw’s back as they left their little side set.

Fans joked that the video was the equivalent of "cyber-bullying," telling the country star and the Grey's alum, "We do not joke about this."

"my culture is NOT your costume," several quipped, while others asked, "so my trauma is joke to you?" and, "So you want to traumatize me 🤨?"

"I can’t go through this again !" one lamented.

Another demanded, "How. Dare. You."

"I feel personally attacked," someone else replied, with another agreeing, "Hey so I don’t like this."

"you just twisted the knife," another dramatic commenter declared, recalling the stress of thinking that Callie might not survive.

The 'Beautiful' Cover Is Available Online

But, amid all of the visceral memories caused by the video, a small few couldn't help but to point out how lovely Rimes' voice was on the quick cover, with one going so far as to write, "No but release this song as a full version you sing it so beautifully."

Rimes performed the full version of the Brandi Carlile track back in 2020, when she won The Masked Singer while disguised as the sun. What many haven't realized is that the singer actually did professionally cover the track on her 2016 album Remnants, so it looks like, for those not completely traumatized by the memories of Callie's almost-death, dreams do come true.

Jensen Ackles Reveals the Unexpected Thing He and His Wife Argue Over

Sat, 01/31/2026 - 11:34am

Actor Jensen Acklesrevealed that he and his wife, actress Danneel Ackles, have arguments about what most would consider a chore.

Jensen gave some unexpected insight into his 15-year-long marriage during the January 2026 Supernatural Convention in Las Vegas. During a panel, alongside his Supernatural co-star, Misha Collins, Jensen revealed that he and Danneel are both eager to power-wash their property. He said that they get disappointed if the other uses the water spray to clean their property.

"It is something we argue over who gets to do it. We both enjoy it so much. I come home and I see the whole back patio's been power washed and I'm like, 'I was going to do that!'" said Jensen, who played Dean Winchester on Supernatural throughout the show's 15 seasons.

He also said that his wife will sometimes get frustrated when his oldest child, Justice, asks his help with math homework, even when he's out of town for work.

"I got FaceTimed the other day by my seventh grader and she's like, 'I need some help with math.' And I'm like, 'All right, what do we do?'" said Jensen while speaking to the audience. "And then from the back [Danneel] is like, 'I can help you. You just have to tell me and explain it.' [My daughter's] like 'That's alright mom. I've got dad on the phone now.'"

Jensen joked that getting those "victories" are "so nice."

Jensen discussed Danneel and their three children in a July 2025 interview with People magazine. He described their Connecticut home as tranquil. The Boys star also credited his family as why he has remained grounded.

“I’ve got a really, really quiet, peaceful life. When I go home, I’m home. I’m not Jensen the actor. I’m Jensen the husband, the dad, the friend, the brother, the son. I think having that stability in my personal life has really given me a good grounding, a good foundation for what I do," said Jensen to the publication.
