Leslie Jones Says 'SNL' Typecast Her as 'Angry' and Violent
Leslie Jones' time on Saturday Night Livewasn't always a laugh.
The comedian, who appeared on five seasons of the NBC sketch comedy show, admitted her tenure on the series was "bittersweet" and "frustrating," as she often felt typecast as "angry" and violent characters during a recent episode of KCRW's The Sam Sanders Show.
"It was kind of frustrating that they would always make me the girl that was angry and beating up people or in love with a white boy," Jones said during the June 12 episode. "They just always would make me angry, or I’m fighting somebody."
Asked how she felt about playing those characters at the time, Jones said that she didn't push back at first, as she "wanted to be on the show" and didn't think that she was being typecast initially, "until it kept happening."
"And then, like, every time I would get a sketch, I was like, 'OK, who am I beating up this week?'" she recalled. "I just started getting frustrated with [the writers]. I was like, ‘Stop writing me like that.’"
Jones said that even after she addressed the issue, she continued to be typecast as the same kind of characters.
"They’re like, ‘This is successful. When you leave here, you’ll be able to make...,’” Jones recalled. “No. I don’t want to be Chevy Chase. I don’t want to be whoever. I want to be Leslie. I want to do everything. And I wanted to go across the board with everything, you know?"
Jones continued that SNL is "the machine that it is," and is unlikely to change because of how "successful" it's been over the years.
The comedian added that while she "loved being" on SNL and had "fun" during her time on the cast, she certainly doesn't miss "the mental part" of the job.
Jones joined SNL in Season 39 and earned two Emmy nominations during her five seasons on the sketch show until she made her exit in 2019.
Target Shoppers Say These Gut-Friendly Drinks Are 'So Good' and 'Refreshing'
If you are always on the hunt for a bubbly drink that satisfies a classic soda craving without giving you a stomachache, you know how frustrating the beverage aisle can be. Most healthy drinks end up tasting like medicine, or they leave a weird, artificial aftertaste that ruins the whole experience.
But Target just brought a brand called Wildwonder to its shelves nationwide, and it is finally giving shoppers a sparkling drink that hits the sweet spot between a wellness boost and a crisp, everyday refreshment. Instead of a heavy tonic, it drinks like a light, fruit-forward soda with a really clean finish.
😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔
Because it relies on real fruit juices and organic agave instead of high-fructose corn syrup, it cuts out the heavy sugar coating while keeping the satisfying, bubbly bite of a canned drink.
Not Your Average Gut Drink View this post on InstagramIf you look past the colorful packaging, what you are drinking is a blend of ancient herbal medicine and modern gut science. The brand's founder began brewing these drinks using her grandmother's traditional Chinese tonic recipes, which relied heavily on healing herbs such as wild ginger and turmeric.
Each can is essentially a modern version of those heritage remedies, pairing brewed botanicals with real fruit purees to keep the taste authentic. It is the first sparkling beverage on the market to pack both prebiotics (the food) and live probiotics (the good bacteria) into a single can.
Because they use a highly resilient, spore-forming probiotic strain, the beneficial bacteria actually survive the trip to your stomach instead of dying off on the shelf, giving you a functional wellness boost that goes down like a crisp treat.

Flavors Worth Popping OpenInstead of giving you the same basic berry or plain lime flavors you see everywhere, these combinations feel a lot more creative.
Flavors like Strawberry Passion and Mango Gold taste closer to a high-end coffee shop refresher or a real juice blend than a diet drink. Because they use fruit purees and agave, you get a real sweetness without that flat, metallic artificial aftertaste.
The Raspberry Lychee is a massive favorite because it tastes a lot like a tart gummy candy without being a total sugar bomb. Target also has Wildwonder's newest one, Pink Pomelo Limeade, which mixes sharp, zesty citrus with a really subtle floral note from brewed chrysanthemum flowers.
They all have a bright, crisp tartness that works perfectly whether you want to pop the tab or pour it over ice for an easy afternoon mocktail.
What Do Shoppers Think? @liellewaldman17Target run for a little gut-friendly refresh @wildwonder 🤍 Wildwonder is packed with prebiotics + probiotics and now available nationwide at @target. Find it cold in the refrigerated beverage section within produce. We picked up all the flavors and it’s on sale for $2.99 from June 14–20. #wildwonderpartner
♬ Honey in Transit - Silken EchoOn TikTok, creator @liellewaldman17 tried all flavors, stating that the Mango Gold was "so good," the Pink Pomelo was "delicious," and the Guava Rose was their favorite of the bunch.
Wildwonder's customer reviews on Target show mostly praise for these tasty little sparkling drinks. "Hands down the best probiotic drink I've ever tried," says one Target customer about the Raspberry Lychee flavor, with others saying it was "delicious" and that they "love the taste."
While some may find the drinks a bit on the pricey side, it's worth it if you want a great-tasting soda alternative that actually helps your stomach rather than bloating it.

Christina Ricci Blasts Jimmy Fallon for Inviting 'Piece of Human Garbage' Conor McGregor onto 'Tonight Show': 'Shame on You, Jimmy'
Jimmy Fallon has invited a fair degree of scrutiny and viewer outcry after hosting controversial MMA fighter Conor McGregor on The Tonight Show.
Among the more outspoken critics of Fallon's decision was none other than '90s icon Christina Ricci, who voiced her displeasure towards The Tonight Show host by resharing an Instagram post shedding light on McGregor's past scandals (via CBC).
The post, which was originally shared by entrepreneur Adam McRae, specifically shared a graphic account of a woman who was allegedly assaulted by McGregor, calling for Fallon and the Tonight Show staff to do better when vetting their guests.
“Why the absolute f**k is this piece of human garbage being given a platform on Jimmy Fallon’s show?" the reshared post read. "Shame on you, Jimmy.”
Despite his past controversies and scandals, McGregor has once again entered the public spotlight for his upcoming comeback fight at UFC 329 on July 11. At said event, the 37-year-old McGregor will fight his first MMA match in five years, taking on former UFC Featherweight Champion, Max Holloway.
During the course of his Tonight Show interview, McGregor and Fallon discussed a variety of topics, ranging from rowdy bar stories, McGregor's four children as well as his well-known "Notorious" nickname.
However, nowhere in the interview did the topic of McGregor's tumultuous personal life come up, sparking outrage among longtime fans of Fallon and The Tonight Show.
"As an Irish person who has been watching Fallon for many years now and always loved him, I won't be watching him anymore," one fan wrote on a clip from the show shared on YouTube. "I'm absolutely disgusted and sickened to the pit of my stomach that you would have this despicable monster on your show. I can't fathom how anyone thought having this vile, total embarrassment, to Ireland on the show was a good idea."
A rep for Fallon did not immediately respond to Parade's request for comment.
How To Do a Soft Glam Makeup Look Over 40, According to Celebrity Makeup Artists
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
If you've ever watched a beauty tutorial and thought the end result was either too heavy or not polished enough, soft glam makeup may be worth trying. It's a happy medium between a no-makeup makeup look and full glam.
"Soft glam is polished makeup with softened edges," celebrity makeup artist Christian Briceno, who has worked with Laura Donnelly and Marval Rex, tells Parade. "The complexion looks refined but still believable, the eyes have definition without feeling heavy, and the color on the cheeks and lips appears blended into the face rather than sitting on top of it."
Celebrity makeup artist Renée Loiz describes it simply as "polished and elevated, but still looks like you."
For women over 40, that balance is particularly appealing. Heavy coverage, severe lines and very matte textures can work against mature skin. Soft glam takes a more subtle approach, highlighting the features while still showing natural texture and expressions. The result is that "the person is still the first thing you notice," Briceno says.
We asked both experts to walk us through how to achieve soft glam step by step—from skincare prep to the finishing mist.
Related: 7 Most Flattering Makeup Looks for Mature Skin, According to Celebrity Makeup Artists
What Is Soft Glam Makeup?Soft glam uses many of the same techniques as full glam, but with more restraint. "Full glam relies on greater intensity: more coverage, stronger contour, sharper liner, heavier lashes and a clearer distinction between each feature," Briceno tells Parade. "Soft glam uses many of the same techniques, but the transitions are more seamless and the overall contrast is lower."
"The focus is on radiant skin, soft definition, blended eyeshadow and flattering color rather than dramatic contouring or heavy coverage," Loiz adds. "Full glam tends to be more sculpted and high impact, while soft glam is about enhancing your features in a way that feels effortless and timeless."

What Makes Soft Glam Makeup Different for Women Over 40?Both experts agree that soft glam is particularly well-suited to mature skin because as skin matures, "heavy makeup can sometimes emphasize texture and fine lines," Loiz says, adding, "Soft glam keeps the complexion fresh, luminous and lifted while still feeling polished."
Getty
How To Do a Soft Glam Base for Mature SkinPrep is where soft glam starts, and both experts emphasize that what goes on before foundation matters as much as the foundation itself.
"I focus on hydration first with skincare that plumps and smooths the skin," Loiz says. "Mature skin responds best when it's well moisturized because makeup sits more naturally and doesn't cling to dry patches or texture."
Briceno usually starts with a lightweight hydrating serum, then a moisturizer that he allows to absorb for a few minutes. "The skin should feel supple, not slippery," he says. "Too much skincare can cause foundation to separate or collect around pores and fine lines."
He also treats primer as a targeted product rather than a base coat, explaining, "A smoothing formula can help where pores are more visible, while a hydrating primer may benefit drier areas. Most faces do not need the same primer everywhere."
For foundation, both experts steer away from heavy, matte formulas. "I generally look for a lightweight liquid or serum foundation with a natural satin finish," Briceno says. "I prefer sheer-to-medium coverage placed where it is actually needed."
Loiz recommends MPH Beauty Le Skin Foundation for coverage that still looks natural, or MAKE Beauty Diffusion Dew Skin Tint for a more skin-like result. "The skin should still look like skin," she stresses.
Under-eye concealer requires the lightest touch. "Use less concealer than you think you need," Briceno says. He places it directly over the darkness—usually near the inner corner—rather than covering the entire area.

The Best Eye Makeup for Soft Glam Over 40For eyes, both experts favor soft definition over drama—with a few key placement techniques that make a real difference on mature lids.
"For shadow, I use matte or satin neutrals to shape the eye," Briceno says. "I keep the deepest tone near the lash line and place some color slightly above the natural crease so it remains visible when the eyes are open. Taupe, rose-brown, muted bronze, plum and soft brown create depth without looking severe."
Loiz likes to use an eyeshadow stick, explaining, "It gives effortless color and blends beautifully."
On liner, both experts recommend brown over black. "I prefer a pencil pressed into the roots of the lashes and gently diffused rather than a very crisp liquid line," Briceno says, adding that placement matters as much as product.
"I often map the shadow while the eyes are open," Briceno explains. "I avoid dragging a dark shadow downward at the outer corner—instead I direct the blend slightly outward and upward to give the eye a more open shape."
Getty
How To Apply Blush and Bronzer for Soft Glam Over 40Both experts use blush and bronzer to add warmth and lift rather than obvious contour. "Bronzer should never read as a stripe," Briceno says. "I place it lightly around the temples, across the upper cheek area, and along the outer perimeter of the face. Taking it too low beneath the cheekbone can make the face look hollow rather than sculpted."
Loiz uses the PUR Bronzer Stick for warmth and dimension "without looking muddy."
Both experts prefer creamy formulas for blush and bronzer. "Cream blush and bronzer are useful on mature complexions because they can be blended gradually and adjusted before they set," Briceno tells Parade. "They tend to create a more seamless transition between the complexion and the color."
Loiz agrees, explaining, "Cream formulas move with the skin, while powder can settle into fine lines and texture."
As far as blush placement, Briceno applies it slightly higher on the cheek and blends toward the temple. Loiz likes Rare Beauty Liquid Blush, sharing, "It blends beautifully into the skin and gives a natural flush."
The Best Lip Colors for Soft Glam Over 40On lips, both experts favor hydrating finishes and colors that work with natural undertones. "Rose, pink-beige, caramel, warm nude, muted coral, berry and soft plum can all be flattering," Briceno says. "Undertone and natural lip color matter more than age."
He gravitates toward satin, balm-like and softly glossy finishes, sharing, "Very dry matte lipstick can emphasize lines, while a nude that is too pale may flatten the entire face."
Loiz's favorites include Fenty Beauty Lip Oil Gloss and NARS Cream Lipsticks. She recommends a lip pencil close to the natural lip tone, blended inward before adding color for definition without a hard border.
Related:The Best Lip Color for You—According to Your Undertone (It’s Simpler Than You Think)
The Most Common Soft Glam Mistakes Women Over 40 MakeThe biggest mistake, both experts agree, is using too much product—particularly powder. "A common mistake is adding more makeup to hide texture. In reality, the extra layers often make that texture more visible," Briceno warns.
Loiz agrees too much powder will ruin the look, explaining, "Soft glam should feel fresh and luminous, so I always use powder strategically rather than all over the face."
Briceno says to be wary of foundation that is too matte and to avoid covering the entire under-eye area with concealer. Other common makeup mistakes include making brows or eyeliner excessively dark.
Briceno also notes that soft glam shouldn't mean colorless, explaining, "The face still needs contrast. The softness should come from the edges, finishes and transitions—not from removing all definition."
How To Make Soft Glam Last Longer on Mature Skin"Longevity comes from controlled layering rather than applying more product," Briceno says. He powders only where makeup tends to break down—around the nose, through the center of the forehead and beneath the eyes—leaving other areas less powdered to keep the complexion from going flat.
He also recommends layering textures, explaining, "A small amount of powder blush over cream blush helps the color last. Pencil beneath eyeshadow strengthens liner, and lip pencil under lipstick or tint keeps the lip color more even."
He finishes with a fine setting mist.
Loiz's secret weapon is hydration throughout. "I love using the d'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum during the makeup process to keep the skin looking fresh, then lock everything in with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray," she says. "It helps makeup last without taking away the glow."

UFC Fighter Josh Hokit Claims His Controversial Michelle Obama Comment Was Actually 'a Compliment' — Here's What He Said
Heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit sparked a major backlash following his win over Derrick Lewis at the UFC Freedom 250 event. During a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Hokit fired off an unexpected insult, telling the audience, “Michelle Obama is a man, am I right, America?”
While Rogan did not immediately address Hokit’s strange slur, UFC CEO Dana White did issue a statement after the incident, telling TIME, “I understand that the Obamas are public figures, but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families.” He added, “Everyone knows my position on free speech, but I hate this kind of nonsense.”

(Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Getty ImagesHokit has kept quiet on the matter until recently. On Tuesday, the UFC fighter opened up on ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’ podcast, seemingly justifying the Michelle Obama comment, explaining, “I thought I was giving her a compliment.” As Helwani responded with, “I don’t think anyone viewed it…” Hokit cut in, adding, “Michelle Obama being a man that’s like she knows how to deal with adversity, you know, she knows how to work hard like a man. You know, when the times get tough, you know…”
Helwani then asks the fighter, “Why even go there?” Which is the question on everyone’s mind. Why bring up the former FLOTUS immediately after winning a UFC match on the White House lawn? Well, Hokit has an answer.
“I thought it was a perfect opportunity to, you know, show the world how great this country is with uh, the freedom of speech. You know, you go somewhere, and you say something like that, and you die, you know. And I’m not suicidal, by the way. Um, you know, I’m in good spirits.”
Hokit continued, reiterating his freedom of speech claims, “In other parts of the world, you say something like that, and you’re not here to speak to Ariel Helwani, you know. So um, yeah, I don’t know. There’s a few answers to that, you know, and there’s a certain side that pokes at another side; there’s no outrage there, and so I thought it was a perfect time to take a jab.”
Even though he’s already flip-flopped from it being a compliment to wanting to put free speech in the spotlight to it being a jab in jest, Hokit isn’t apologizing for his statement. Helwani asks the fighter if he regrets saying it, and Josh responds, “Oh, never,” adding, “You’ll never hear me backtrack from what I say.”
As to whether he cares about the backlash, Hokit told Helwani, “At the end of the day, I don’t care.” He goes on to explain that while he has no intention of angering people like Dana White, “You know, I’m here to make a splash and I’m here to back up my words as well, so if anybody feels some type of way, they know where to find me.”
Country Star Announces New Album 20 Years After Beginning Career
Country music star Carly Pearce is marking two decades since she began performing by announcing her fifth studio album, Honest Woman.
The 16-track project arrives on Aug. 28 via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville and finds the Grammy-winning artist returning to the classic country and bluegrass sounds that first inspired her musical journey.
The album announcement comes as Pearce reflects on her roots and the path that led her from performing bluegrass music as a teenager to becoming one of country music’s most celebrated modern voices.
Alongside the album reveal, she released a new song titled “She Don’t,” giving fans another preview of what to expect from the upcoming record.

“When I started making Honest Woman, I found myself rediscovering who I am and why I wanted to be a country music singer in the first place,” says Pearce, according to Music Row. “This album takes me back to the beginning of my story, where the sounds of classic country and bluegrass music shaped who I am. I’m so proud of this body of work, and I truly feel like it’s my best yet.”
The new collection features collaborations with Riley Green, Dan Tyminski and Molly Tuttle. Produced by Ben West, the album combines traditional influences with the storytelling style that has become a signature part of Pearce’s career.
Pearce has long balanced contemporary country music with the bluegrass influences she grew up loving. According to the singer, Honest Woman serves as a return to the sounds that first made her want to pursue a career in country music.
The Kentucky native first gained widespread attention in 2017 with her breakthrough hit “Every Little Thing.” Since then, she has earned multiple major awards, including a Grammy Award, Country Music Association Awards and Academy of Country Music Awards. She also became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2021.
In a separate message shared about the album, Pearce described the project as deeply personal.
“Sometimes finding yourself means finding your way back home. For me, it meant coming home…to my truth, my story, and the woman I am at my core. These songs tell that story. They hold pieces of my heart, where I come from, and the journey that brought me here. I’m so proud of this album and I can’t wait to share it with you.”
View this post on InstagramThe album includes previously released songs “Dream Come True,” “Church Girl,” “You Can Have Him” and “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay,” her collaboration with Riley Green that continues to climb country music charts.
Other tracks include “WWJD,” “Same Circus,” “Happy For Myself,” “He Don’t Like My Dogs,” “Who’s Lying Here” and “Why God Why Me.”
To celebrate the album launch, Pearce will embark on a series of special two-night residencies across North America under the banner Honest Woman: Up Close.
The intimate run begins Sept. 10 with two nights in Detroit before heading to Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston and New York City. Rising artist Belle Frantz will join as support throughout the tour.
Fans will get an opportunity to hear new material from the album in a live setting shortly after its release. Public ticket sales begin Friday following an early fan club presale.
The announcement follows a productive period for Pearce, who has continued building on the momentum of recent projects while embracing a more traditional country and bluegrass direction.
As anticipation builds for the Aug. 28 release, Pearce’s latest project offers both a look back at her beginnings and a fresh collection of songs that reflect where she stands today.

In the heart of Santa Barbara, California's wine country, there is a quaint little town that looks straight out of Disneyland, thanks to its Danish-inspired architecture. The whole place evokes a fairytale ambiance and is a living storybook surrounded by wineries and, according toVisit California, "amazing bakeries." You'd think a Hans Christian Andersen witch might try to lure you into her home, and if you head into a wine tasting at Final Girl Wines, it's spookily close enough.
For a more whimsical experience with an air of dark fairytale, Final Girl Wine takes inspiration from horror films for its Solvang sipping parlor, which took fifth place in USA Today's Reader Choice Award ranking of best tasting rooms (and is nominated again this year). Inside their self-described "bootique," you can try their vineyard selection, which includes bottles based on iconic and badass horror final girls to raise the spirits of their guests. ♬ You're Still the One - Instrumental - Guitar DreamersRob Reiner’s Son Jake, 35, Is Handsome and Smiling in First Red Carpet Appearance Since Parents’ Death
Rob Reiner's son Jake just made his first red carpet appearance since his father's death.
Jake, 35, looked incredibly handsome as he smiled on the red carpet while attending the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO Original series' Life, Larry and The Pursuit of Unhappiness at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles, California. It's no surprise that Jake chose the event for his first public appearance, seeing as Larry David, who stars in the series, was a close friend of his parents. Wearing a blazer over a gray shirt, Reiner showed his support for David at the big event.

Jake Returned to His PodcastLast month, Jake made his return as one of the hosts of his Los Angeles Dodgers show, The Incline: Dodgers Podcast. The baseball fanatic’s return came over four months after his parents were found dead in their Brentwood home in December 2025.
Jake’s brother, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for their parents’ deaths. He has pleaded not guilty.
Reiner kicked off the podcast by noting that he didn’t want to instantly launch into baseball talk without addressing what he’s been through recently. In a poignant message, he spoke about how he and his father connected over their love of the Dodgers.
“When it comes to the Dodgers, you know, my first love, is something that I’ve always connected with my dad first and foremost, and it’s something that I will continue to connect with him for the rest of my life,” he shared.
Calling it “a good time to come back,” Jake said he “didn’t wanna just jump on the podcast and start talking about the Dodgers’ offensive woes or bullpen woes without, you know, addressing some things first.” He expressed tremendous gratitude for “all the love” and support he’s received “since everything’s happened.”
“I couldn’t appreciate that more,” Jake continued, sharing that he’s tried his best to get back to everyone. “I felt it was time to come back to the podcast. I was thinking about it for a really long time and have been talking to Kevin about it for a while now.”
Jake Reiner Broke His SilenceOn April 24, Reiner returned to social media with a touching post that spoke about his parents’ deaths for the first time.
“A week from today will be my first birthday without my parents. I consider myself lucky to have had them by my side for the past 34 years,” he shared via Instagram. “In the last four months, I’ve learned a lot about grief. I want to thank @iamdavidkessler, who has been instrumental in navigating the horrors of this process, as well as my family and friends.”
View this post on InstagramIn a Substack essay, Reiner elaborated, speaking about the tremendous loss he suffered, calling it a “living nightmare.”
“I was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me,” Jake wrote. “Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”

'Who's the Boss' Star Says He Doesn't Receive Residuals—and Works 5 Jobs Instead
Former Who's the Boss? child actor Danny Pintauro says his time playing Jonathan Bower didn't set him up financially, despite his years starring on the iconic sitcom.
Pintauro, 50, opened up about taking on five jobs to make ends meet during an appearance on the Monday, June 22, episode of the Pod Meets World podcast.
"I went into it thinking, ‘We have to do what we have to do to survive. We have got to keep moving as humans,’" Pintauro told podcast hosts and Boy Meets World alum Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong during the episode. "I don’t make money from residuals."
Pintauro played the son of Judith Light's Angela Bower on Who’s the Boss?, which also starred Tony Danza as Tony Micelli and Alyssa Milano as Samantha Micelli and ran from 1984 to 1992 on ABC.
Despite his years on the Emmy award-winning show, Pintauro said it still takes hustle to make a living as an entertainer today.
"If you’re an artist in any way [or] you’re a musician, you need to do something else. There’s the very, very select group of people that are making a good living in the artistic field," he explained. "You do what you have to do, and then you couple that with the fact that as human beings, you want purpose."
Pintauro is currently employed as a delivery driver for Amazon, builds and sells dioramas, works as an acting coach, teaches at Young Actors Theater Camp, and has launched his own "coaching business."
"I have a unique sort of take on it, and that’s the resonant actor vibe of it," he explained. "When you’re playing a character, you have to resonate their energy, not yours. And so, how do you figure that out? By creating an inner monologue that is so specifically the other character that your brain is off to the side, allowing you to sort of give off the essence of this character that you’ve created."
1972 No. 1 Hit, Based on a True Story, Became a Timeless Breakup Anthem
More than five decades after it first climbed the charts, Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” remains one of the most talked-about songs in music history.
Released in November 1972, the sharp-tongued hit became a worldwide sensation, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and transformed a deeply personal story into a timeless breakup anthem that still sparks debate today.
The song topped charts in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, while also becoming Simon’s breakthrough hit in the United Kingdom. Its success helped establish Carly Simon as one of the defining singer-songwriters of the 1970s and turned “You’re So Vain” into her signature recording.
What made the song stand out was not only its catchy melody but also its unforgettable lyrics about a self-absorbed former lover. The chorus delivered one of pop music’s most memorable lines: “You're so vain / You probably think this song is about you.”

For decades, listeners have tried to uncover the identity of the man who inspired the song. That mystery became almost as famous as the record itself.
For years, fans and music insiders speculated about who Simon was singing about. Names including Mick Jagger, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Kris Kristofferson, David Cassidy and David Geffen were repeatedly linked to the song.
Simon consistently fueled curiosity by offering clues while refusing to reveal the complete answer.
The biggest breakthrough came in 2015 when Simon confirmed that actor Warren Beatty inspired part of the song.
Speaking to People, she said, “I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren.”
However, Simon also made it clear that Beatty was not the only inspiration behind the classic track.
“I don't think so, at least until they know it's about them,” she said when asked whether she would ever reveal the identities of the other men referenced in the song.
She also joked about Beatty’s reaction to the revelation.
“Warren thinks the whole thing is about him!”
According to Simon, “You’re So Vain” was never intended to focus on just one person. Over the years, she has explained that the lyrics were inspired by three different men, creating a composite portrait of vanity and self-importance.
That revelation helped explain why so many listeners believed the song could be about someone they knew.
While the identity of its subject remains partly unsolved, the song’s emotional message is what has kept it alive for generations.
The lyrics paint the picture of a charming but arrogant man whose confidence eventually overshadows everything else. Simon’s clever storytelling turned a personal experience into a universal tale about ego, heartbreak, and disappointment.
Its relatability helped the song earn a lasting place among the greatest breakup songs ever recorded. Billboard later included “You’re So Vain” on its list of the “100 Best Breakup Songs of All Time,” noting that the mystery surrounding the song only added to its legend.
The track’s creation was also unusual. Simon spent roughly a year developing the song. It was originally titled “Bless You, Ben” before she rewrote the chorus and created the now-famous hook.
One lyric emerged after Simon spotted a man wearing a scarf while admiring himself in a mirror at a party. Another famous phrase, “They were clouds in my coffee,” came from an observation made by her piano player while she was drinking coffee.
Those details helped shape one of the most distinctive songs of the decade.
The recording also featured notable musicians, including Klaus Voormann on bass and Mick Jagger providing uncredited backing vocals.
The song’s success extended far beyond its original release. It earned Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In 2004, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Over the years, “You’re So Vain” has continued to receive recognition. It was named the ultimate song of the 1970s by the UK's Official Charts Company in 2014 and later earned a place on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
More than 50 years after its release, Carly Simon’s chart-topping hit continues to captivate audiences, not because listeners know exactly who inspired it, but because they still wonder.

The legendary rock band revealed its new Spirit Of ’76 Collection, a tribute to the iconic Spirit Of ’76 Tour that helped turn KISS into one of the biggest rock acts of the decade.
According to BraveWords, the collection includes a matching cabana shirt and shorts set, a Destroyer ’76 shirt, The Spirit Of ’76 T-shirt, Be Destroyed By KISS T-shirt, a blacklight screen-printed serigraph poster and a commemorative towel.
The anniversary celebration will continue later this year with the release of KISS Destroyer: The Definitive Visual History: Making And Touring The Legendary Album, Official And Authorized, arriving on Oct. 27. Released in 1976, Destroyer became a defining moment for the band. At the time, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss elevated KISS from a successful touring act into mainstream rock superstardom.
KISS Destroyer 50th Anniversary CelebrationThe upcoming 272-page book promises an in-depth look at both the recording of Destroyer and the tour that followed. According to details released by the band, readers will gain access to stories from the studio and the road, including revelations about creative decisions, behind-the-scenes conflicts and memorable celebrity encounters.
Among the topics covered are:
- Marlon Brando’s significance on the direction of the album
- Tensions in the sound studio
- The destruction of Paul Stanley’s favorite guitar
- Creating the costumes and the cover artwork
- The photo shoots to promote the record
- A dare that led to the birth of the KISS Army

The book features interviews with more than 50 contributors, including exclusive new conversations with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and producer Bob Ezrin. It also includes hundreds of photographs, some of which have never been published before.
Fans can also expect detailed examinations of every song on the album, information about demos that did not make the final release and insights into who gave the hit ballad “Beth” its title.
The anniversary announcements arrive as KISS continues to build its next chapter following the conclusion of the band's End of the Road World Tour in December 2023.
Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons recently discussed the group's upcoming avatar-based production planned for Las Vegas in 2028. The project is being developed by Pophouse Entertainment, the company behind ABBA Voyage.
“What we’re doing will absolutely blow people away, it’s as real as you and us sitting here. It’s immersive; it will be mind-boggling,” Stanley told USA Today.
Stanley also revealed that the experience will take place inside a specially designed venue reportedly being built for the project.
“You have to build an arena to make sure everybody’s seat is the perfect viewing distance and angle. But quite honestly, I don’t think anybody is going to sit. It’s not going to be like, ‘Gee, that looks just like an amplifier.’ It’s not a concert in that sense; it’s an immersive experience.”
Gene Simmons hinted that the production will extend beyond a traditional concert presentation.
“There’s a motion picture. There’s a script. There are directors … We’re like that caterpillar that looks like it’s at the end of its life and goes into its cocoon, but what comes out is more beautiful than it’s ever been.”
Pophouse Entertainment is reportedly constructing a $200 million venue in Las Vegas for the experience. The company previously acquired KISS’ song catalog, name, image and likeness rights, including the band’s iconic face-paint designs.
Through new merchandise, a definitive historical book, and future avatar performances, KISS is marking the 50th anniversary of Destroyer by connecting its celebrated past with an ambitious future.

The Ultimate Under-the-Radar Summer Road Trip Guide for the 250th Anniversary
As the United States rapidly barrels toward its monumental 250th anniversary, the standard historical heavyweights like Boston, Philadelphia and Yorktown are naturally gearing up for massive, crowd-heavy celebrations. But if you want to truly connect with the spirit of 1776 without fighting gridlock or standing in massive tourist lines, your best strategy is to look just beyond the famous landmarks.
Emmy-nominated PBS host and veteran travel expert Darley Newman is doing exactly that with her highly anticipated new book, Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories of America's Founding Journey. Dropping just in time for mid-summer travel on June 30th, the book serves as the ultimate blueprint for travelers looking to uncover the fascinating, often-overlooked corners of the original 13 colonies that traditional history textbooks completely skipped over.

Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories of America's Founding Journey by Darley NewmanDarley Newman
Drawing from years of on-the-ground exploration for her hit PBS series and podcast, Travels with Darley—which is currently filming its milestone 100th episode season—Newman takes readers on a vivid, firsthand trek through small-town taverns, hidden battlefields, and historic communities that are actively keeping America's founding stories alive.
"When people think about the American Revolution, they often picture places like Boston, Philadelphia, and Yorktown," said Newman. "I traveled beyond those well-known locations to uncover hidden gems and explore how everyday people shaped the nation's founding in remarkable ways. I hope readers are inspired to visit these places and experience history where it happened."

The narrative blends deep, meaningful historical context with lighthearted road-trip adventures, whether Newman is sampling Martha Washington’s famous Cherry Bounce cocktail recipe or walking the solemn grounds of South Carolina's Camden Battlefield alongside a veteran military historian.
Instead of just recounting dates and battles, the book acts as a practical, inspiration-driven travel guide highlighting spectacular, low-key destinations you can easily drive to right now.
Newman shines a brilliant spotlight on the incredible local preservation efforts and culinary scenes in gorgeous, photogenic regions like Pennsylvania's Brandywine Valley and York County, the historic streets of Princeton, New Jersey, the sweeping landscapes of Saratoga, New York, and the charming colonial towns of Delaware and North Carolina.
Ultimately, Revolutionary Road Trip proves that the best way to celebrate the nation's big milestone isn't just by staring at a statue—it’s by getting behind the wheel, hitting the pavement and experiencing history right where it actually happened.

'The Bear' Season 4 Recap: What to Remember Before the Final Season
The Bear is one of the rare TV shows nowadays that has given us annual servings. From its debut in 2022, the culinary drama has kept audiences well-fed, earning high praise (and several Emmy wins) for its high-concept episodes and performances from Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lisa Colon-Zayas and more. And, on June 25, service comes to a close, as The Bear will air all 8 episodes of its fifth and final season before the show turns off the oven for good.
That said, while Season 4 was only a year ago, Hulu has always put the series out in a binge format. So you'd be remiss not to forget some larger plot points that have happened to Carmy, Sydney, Richie and the rest of the staff since last June. So here's what you need to remember from The Bear Season 4 before the final course.
Courtesy of FX
When Carmy (White) and Sydney (Edebiri) decided to turn "The Beef" into a fine dining restaurant, there were, of course, going to be several costs incurred. And most of those are in the ledger of Jimmy (Oliver Platt), who decides, against his better judgment, to invest in the new venture. Unfortunately, the seemingly bottomless well of money that the family friend usually is has run dry, run afoul of a bad investment. And it doesn't look like his current assets show promise of becoming profitable anytime soon.
Season 4 opens with fans finally finding out what was in the mysterious review from The Chicago Tribune, and the results...are mixed at best. While the restaurant is praised for its food, and the sandwich window running out of the side of the building, it's criticized for its havoc-filled atmosphere and unfocused menu. And so Jimmy and "The Computer" (Brian Koppelman) give the team an ultimatum at the end of the premiere. In two months, the money will run dry. If business isn't able to turn around by then, it will be forced to close. The two even bring a visual aid: A giant countdown clock, truly showcasing that every second counts.
Now the stakes are clearer than ever: Get a Michelin star and improve the restaurant's reputation to put it in the black. In their pursuit of doing so, a myriad of familiar faces end up joining the team. The standout staff from Ever now work front-of-house, hoping to control the chaos a bit more. And Carmy brings on Luca (Will Poulter), who gets to reunite with Marcus (Lionel Boyce) and help support his award-winning desserts (and give a chance to deepen their "bromance" since meeting in Copenhagen).
Courtesy of FX
While our main characters are consistently fighting to keep the restaurant afloat, they have no idea Sydney is battling with whether she even wants to be there in the first place. After receiving an offer from the former CDC of Ever (Adam Shapiro) to work at his new restaurant, she spends the majority of Season 4 mulling over what to do. Initially, after spending the day with her cousin, she decides that Shapiro is a better opportunity, especially with the controlling nature Carmy exerted in Season 3 making her feel like their partnership was in name only.
But what ultimately sways her is not her blood family, but her work one. Attending Tiff's wedding (see below) allowed Sydney to get to know the Berzatto family (and all of their unrelated relatives) a bit more. Over the course of the day, she begins to realize the value of this messy, yet passionate community, and what she would be leaving behind to start over. Flipping her decision, she declines the job offer to Shapiro, who brusquely tells her she's making a huge mistake staying with The Bear. We shall see in due time if those words prove to be a prophecy.

All the way back in Season 2, "Fishes" forever changed the face of The Bear. The feature-length episode took a deep dive into one fateful night at the Berzatto house, getting a full, blistering look at how dysfunctional and destructive the family can be. It was a star-studded occasion, filled with appearances from Sarah Paulson, John Mulaney, Bob Odenkirk and, of course, Jamie Lee Curtis. And now, in Season 4, we finally have its spiritual successor.
"Bears" had nearly the entire cast attending the wedding of Tiff (Gillian Jacobs), Richie's ex-wife. Despite technically no longer a Berzatto, she's the closest family Tiff has, and so it winds up being another gathering by default. Luckily, this one is much less eventful (everyone's cars — and walls — remain intact). But it still features plenty of cameos, with Brie Larson joining the fray as the oft-mentioned Francie Fak, former friend and current enemy of Sugar (Abby Elliott). One scene involving nearly the entire cast sat under a table showcases how deep this group of co-workers, friends and family roll, and why the Bears are always happy to welcome one more into their den.
Courtesy of FX
To say Carmy was on a self-destructive path in Season 3 would be an understatement. After completely screwing up his relationship with Claire (Molly Gordon), he dove entirely into his work, pushing his staff way too hard with his list of "non-negotiables," among them changing the menu every day. The review served as a stark message that his hyperfocusing was, ironically, giving him no focus whatsoever. And so, it seemed that, starting in Season 4, he was ready to make amends and truly work to become a better person.
And indeed, the rest of the season showcased just that for Carmy, not only professionally, but personally as well. After weeks of avoiding her, he finally paid a visit to Claire, where he was able to do what he hadn't for an entire season: Apologize. And, while the two are far being as hopelessly in love as they were in their heyday, their time at the wedding together showcases a connection is very much still possible. Initially against his will, Carmy at last had a lengthy sitdown with his mother Donna (Curtis), where she tearfully apologized for the trauma she had caused, asking to be part of his life again. Season 4 was one of monumental growth for Carmy, as he was able to put his ego aside and have tough conversations to mend fences with meaningful people in his life. But that doesn't make what happens next less shocking.

Courtesy of FX
At the end of the penultimate episode, Pete (Chris Witaske) drops a major bomb on Sydney: Carmy has written himself out of the partner agreement for The Bear. What follows is an emotional roller-coaster of a finale, as, sequestered to the restaurant's back patio, our three main characters hash things out and, at times, nearly come to blows. After Sugar floated the idea to him that he didn't need to pursue something he no longer loved, Carmy had the epiphany that cooking was not necessarily a passion for him, but an outlet to both escape and channel his familial trauma.
As he puts it at one point, "I don't know what I'm like," having thrown himself entirely into his work simply because he didn't know what else to do. But being able to reconcile with people like Claire and Donna has made him realize there's more to life than the kitchen, and he's ready to explore what that is.
This, of course, prompts an absolute freakout from Sydney, as her worst fears are coming true: Her partner is leaving her high and dry. But even if she has no confidence in herself, Carmy absolutely does. "Syd, you’re everything I’m never gonna be," he says. "Any chance of any good in this building started when you walked in. I believe in you more than I’ve ever believed in myself. Because you’re The Bear."
When Richie hears the news, he, too, has an outburst. Carmy uses this moment to reveal he actually was at Mikey's (Jon Bernthal's) funeral, but couldn't bring himself to go inside. The tension immediately builds to a fever pitch, then slowly dissipates. Both men admit the resentment they had towards one another in the wake of Mikey's tragic death, which carried into their relationship ever since. But finally, for the first time since the deep personal digs they took at one another from behind a fridge door in the Season 2 finale, the "cousins" are on the same page.
And, by the end of Season 4, so is everyone else. Sydney counter-proposes that Carmy can indeed walk away if Richie is made a partner in his place. Sugar learns of her brother's decision and tearfully embraces him, knowing that the words she gave him had finally stuck. It looks like, despite the massive upheaval, a new leadership is in place for The Bear. But it may not be for very long, as Season 4 closes with Jimmy's clock officially hitting zero.
Courtesy of FX
If you're a fan of The Bear, perhaps you'd be surprised to know there actually has been a new episode since Season 4 ended. On May 5, 2026, FX and Hulu dropped a surprise special, titled "Gary." Written by Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach, it recounted a day in the life of Richie and Mikey, as they head to the titular Indiana town to run an errand for Jimmy. Given its flashback nature, we assume "Gary" isn't necessary viewing to understand what's to come in Season 5. But it should be noted that it does end with a bang — or a crash — as Richie gets T-boned while driving through an intersection. So, regardless of how The Bear picks up on June 25, there's a chance it may involve our beloved front-of-house manager in a hospital bed.

Move Over, 'Knives Out': Get Ready for 'Please Kill My Boss' with This Thrilling Cover Reveal (Exclusive)
If you’re a fan of Knives Out and the Agatha Christie style of storytelling, the next read that has to be on your list is Please Kill My Boss by Evie Ross. There is a small downside: it’s not out until 2027!
Parade has the opportunity to reveal the stunning cover of the new workplace murder mystery, along with words from Ross herself about the upcoming standalone novel. Releasing on February 9, 2027, the novel tells the story of something many people dream of, although there is a slightly more thrilling twist to the plot.
All Julia wishes is for her boss to drop dead. She’s done with his egotistical and sexist ways, and the best way to get rid of him would be for him to meet his demise. So, when it does happen, Julia should be happy, right?
Well, the problem is that her boss drops dead in front of her, and there is nobody else around to see that it’s happened. As she panics, she takes the hilarious missteps so many do in murder mysteries, including coming up with the bright idea to hide the body. It’s too late for that, though, as everyone starts to hear about the events, and now Julia is being framed for murder.
When sharing the start of the story with Parade, Ross said that the story came about more than 10 years ago when she “was an overworked, stressed-out assistant working in publishing, daydreaming about being an author. It was a deliciously dark idea about a workaholic woman who spent her free time fantasizing about her awful boss dying in ridiculous scenarios, from being electrocuted by his laptop to suffocating in the work supplies cupboard.” She even turned to friends, who helped with setting the tone and workplace gossip.
It’s a dream that many people have. After all, there’s a reason the title Please Kill My Boss is going to immediately make people chuckle. Even without the murder mystery element to it, there are parts of the work life that will resonate with people, especially as more and more are facing burnout due to staff shortages and poor work-life balance. A lot of that is why Ross decided she had to write this story, as she went on to share, “I realised that I wanted to write about the bizarre rituals of office life, the sacrifices we make for work and how working too hard can change us; we can lose our sense of self, and it might cause us to misinterpret a mystery right in front of us.”
While the comedic element started first, the murder mystery quickly followed. “As soon as I started unpacking what would actually happen if a woman’s deadly daydreams came true, I realized we needed a mystery… and a murderer. Julia, our heroine, might enjoy fantasizing about her horrible boss’s death, but she is not prepared for the reality. It was fun to play with this ‘careful what you wish for’ story.”
Ross has always been a fan of Christie’s style of storytelling — and who isn’t? — and she wanted to create a cozy murder mystery. Don’t worry, there won’t be any gruesome murders happening on the page. It’s perfect for those who love Knives Out and Only Murders in the Building, with a little bit of The Office thrown in, and it makes Julia relatable but also a little more eccentric than we would be. It’s something early readers have praised Ross for.
“Julia is a manic workaholic, she’s been pushed to an extreme, and makes some seriously flawed decisions because of it. But she’s very human. She is stuck in a bad work cycle in a job she hates, but is scared to quit. Her work obsession is covering up holes in her life – like the breakup she doesn’t want to think about. She is in serious need of a day off, and that’s something we can all relate to.
I think we’ve all experienced a crazy moment when we were so stressed-out we went into fight or flight mode. But in Julia’s case, she just takes things a step further and goes into hide-your-dead-boss-in-a-cardboard-box mode.”
Just take a look at the thrilling cover, which stands out with its bold aqua and pink/red coloring. It gives absolutely nothing away, which means you know you need to read the story! Now, can 2027 arrive already?

'DWTS' Alum Welcomes First Child, Reveals Special Meaning Behind Daughter's Name
Scott Hoying and Mark Hoying are officially dads!
The Pentatonix singer, 34, and his husband announced on Tuesday, June 23, that they had welcomed their firstborn via surrogate on June 3, revealing their daughter's name in a theatrical video fitting of the moniker's origin story.
"She was born on June 3 and was given a name that is near and dear to their hearts," Scott told PEOPLE. "The first song I ever learned to sing when I was a little, little kid was ‘Put On a Happy Face,’ from Bye Bye Birdie."
It's because of that special memory that the Dancing With the Stars alum and his husband chose the name Birdie James—James because it also felt "musical," but not "too on the nose."
The happy dads went on to thank Scott's sister, Lauren, for volunteering to be their egg donor and making their baby dreams come true.
"I literally cannot believe how selfless she is. She was so passionate about doing it," Scott said of the egg donation process. "I love my sister so much, and I cannot thank her enough for giving the gift of life."

"It was this overwhelming flashback of all these memories growing up and being like, 'Am I going to find love? Is gay marriage going to be legal? Am I going to be able to have a kid?'" Scott recalled.
He added, "The process of us having a child took four or five years. It's been a long time coming and just looking at her, I started crying because it was just such a beautiful thing that I feel really, really lucky."
Scott competed on Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars last year, competing alongside pro Rylee Arnold until the duo was eliminated in the sixth week of the competition.
