Before You Retire, Make Sure This Document Is in Order (Or Your Heirs Will Pay)

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:59pm

Financial experts warn that one overlooked retirement document can completely derail your intentions for your estate: Beneficiary designation forms.

This comes as the Pew Research Center reported that only one out of three Americans has updated their will or estate plan after major life events.

These forms determine who inherits assets held in retirement accounts such as 401(k)s and IRAs, as well as life insurance policies. Unlike what many people might assume, the beneficiary listed on the account, rather than the person named in a will, usually receives the money.

Why Beneficiary Forms Matter More Than Your Will

Financial institutions and retirement plan administrators distribute assets in accordance with the beneficiary designation on file. That means an outdated form can override instructions in a will, trust, or other estate-planning documents.

Fidelity notes that beneficiary designations on retirement and financial accounts "override instructions in a will," making it critical for account owners to keep them up to date.

The consequences can be significant. According to Investopedia, if an ex-spouse remains listed as the primary beneficiary after a divorce, that person could inherit the account. Similarly, if a named beneficiary has died and no updates were made, the transfer process can become more complicated and may not reflect the account owner's wishes.

The Mistake Many Retirees Make

Beneficiary forms are often completed when an account is first opened and then forgotten for decades.

Major life events, such as marriage, divorce, remarriage, births, deaths, and the creation of trusts, should trigger an immediate review of all beneficiary designations. According to Kiplinger, failing to update them can result in assets going to unintended recipients or creating unnecessary legal disputes among surviving family members.

Another common mistake is naming only a primary beneficiary and failing to add contingent beneficiaries. Fidelity confirms this serves as a backup if the primary beneficiary dies before the account owner. Without one, assets may be delayed or included in the estate.

What Retirees Should Do Now

Financial experts recommend reviewing beneficiary designations on all retirement accounts, life insurance policies, annuities, and payable-on-death accounts at least once a year and after any major life change.

According to Investopedia, it’s best practice to follow this checklist each time:

  • Ensure primary beneficiaries are current
  • Check that contingent beneficiaries are listed
  • Update beneficiary designations to align with your broader estate plan
  • Review and remove former spouses or deceased relatives

Updating a beneficiary form often takes only a few minutes, but failing to do so can have consequences that cannot be corrected after death. As estate-planning experts frequently warn, one outdated form can determine where decades of savings ultimately end up.

A New Boutique Nile Cruise Lets Travelers Sail Egypt Aboard a Luxury Dahabiya

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:56pm

For travelers dreaming of seeing Egypt's ancient temples and timeless landscapes, a new luxury cruise experience is offering a more intimate alternative to the large ships that typically sail the Nile.

The newly launched Al Mourad Dahabiya is bringing boutique luxury to one of the world's most iconic waterways, allowing guests to explore Egypt aboard a traditional dahabiya—a type of sail-powered river vessel that dates back centuries and was once favored by aristocrats and explorers traveling the Nile.

Unlike modern cruise ships that can carry hundreds of passengers, the Al Mourad Dahabiya is designed around exclusivity. With just a small number of suites and a highly personalized experience, the vessel aims to recreate the romance of historic Nile journeys while providing contemporary comforts.

View this post on Instagram A slower, more exclusive way to experience the Nile

For much of the 19th century, dahabiyas were considered the most elegant way to travel through Egypt. Wealthy travelers, archaeologists, and even royalty used the graceful sailing vessels to journey between Luxor and Aswan, stopping at temples and villages along the way.

The Al Mourad Dahabiya embraces that same slow-travel philosophy. Rather than rushing between major attractions on a fixed schedule, guests can enjoy a more relaxed pace, taking in views of palm-lined riverbanks, desert landscapes, and traditional Egyptian communities. The smaller vessel can also access quieter stretches of the Nile that are often bypassed by larger cruise ships.

The four-nights/five-days itinerary—which, for now, runs during specific dates from June 2026 through April 2027—includes many of Egypt's most celebrated archaeological treasures, including the temples of Luxor, Karnak, Edfu, and Kom Ombo. Travelers can explore these ancient sites with guided excursions before returning to the serenity of the ship.

The experience is designed to feel more like staying aboard a floating boutique hotel than just joining a conventional cruise. Included in the journey are accommodation in a private double cabin (with daily housekeeping), all drinks and meals prepared fresh on board, and guided sightseeing with a licensed English-speaking guide.

While Al Mourad primarily operates on a full-charter basis, the cruise company says that it offers guests "complete privacy and a fully tailored experience." On select sailing dates, it also offers individual cabin bookings rather than an exclusive charter of the entire dahabiya.

View this post on Instagram Luxury meets historic charm

While the vessel draws inspiration from traditional Nile sailing boats, the onboard experience is decidedly modern. Suites feature elegant furnishings, private bathrooms, and large windows designed to showcase the ever-changing scenery outside. Public spaces include a sun deck where guests can relax while watching life unfold along the river and enjoy meals prepared with locally inspired ingredients.

Wellness offerings—including yoga, meditation, and massages—can also be customized to guests’ interests and schedules. Travelers can expect tailored excursions and opportunities to connect more deeply with the local culture, as well. In the evening, the experience may include sunset dinners, traditional Nubian music and dances, and classical Egyptian melodies.

The smaller size of the vessel allows for a high crew-to-guest ratio, creating a level of personalized service that is difficult to replicate on larger ships.

For those looking to experience Egypt's ancient wonders without the crowds often associated with larger ships, few experiences feel quite as timeless as sailing down the Nile while watching centuries of history pass by from the deck of a traditional dahabiya.

Reese’s Is Bringing a Popular International Favorite to U.S. Stores

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:46pm

Fans of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Reese's Pieces, and the slew of variations that have come out over the years have a big reason to get excited for July, as a popular international Reese's Pieces treat is finally coming to the U.S.

The news was revealed by food influencer Snackolator on Instagram. They described the new Chocolate Cookie Reese's Pieces, which have been sold in Canada over the past few years. The snack "features the Reese's Pieces we all know and love but in a bigger size that has a chocolate cookie middle for a great crunch and flavor combo."

As for exactly when U.S. chocolate fans can try them out, the caption went on, "It looks like we will see these next month in July and I cannot wait - they were DELICIOUS when I got them from Canada." Snackolator plans to update fans when a more specific release date is announced.

Some fans of the treat wrote in the comments that they have been available at one place in the U.S. for some time, and that's Hershey's Chocolate World in Pennsylvania. But since not everyone gets the chance to visit the special chocolate experience, it's about time that the Chocolate Cookie Reese's Pieces are available all around the country.

Many people cheered on the announcement in the comments, writing things like, "These sound amazing," "I can get with this," and "Yes please most definitely."

"Canada has been so lucky," said another, pointing out how there are many tasty treats currently available in Canada but not the U.S. For those in the replies who had already tried the candy, they were big fans, increasing the anticipation for the official release of Chocolate Cookie Reese's Pieces.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Show PDA in Rare Appearance Together With Son Jaden

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:38pm

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are proving that, whatever label they put on their relationship, they're still showing up for each other.

The longtime couple made a rare public appearance together in Paris on Monday, June 22, where they were photographed enjoying a night out with son Jaden Smith and a group of friends.

Photos obtained by People showed Jada with her arm linked through Will's as the pair smiled while walking through the city. The family later met up for dinner at the popular Loulou restaurant. Jada wore a black jacket with some Louis Vuitton jeans and white heels, while Will wore a patterned shirt, brown pants, and a white hat.

While public sightings of the pair have become increasingly rare in recent years, they have occasionally stepped out together for family milestones and other special occasions.

Last September, the two were spotted sharing a relaxed lunch date at Nobu in Malibu. According to reports from the outing, the mood appeared lighthearted, with Will even carrying Jada's bag as they left the restaurant together.

But their latest appearance is particularly notable given the candid conversations both have had about the state of their marriage.

In her 2023 memoir Worthy, Jada revealed that she and Will had been living separately since 2016. She later explained that despite the separation, they had no plans to divorce and were continuing to navigate what worked best for their relationship.

At the time, she also pushed back on speculation that the pair were in an open marriage, instead describing their connection as something that didn't fit traditional expectations.

The couple, who have been married since 1997 and share children Jaden and Willow, have repeatedly referred to one another as life partners despite the ups and downs they've faced over the years.

This New Ultra-Luxury Hotel Lets Travelers Stay Inside One of the World's Oldest UNESCO Biosphere Reserves

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:32pm

Luxury travelers have long flocked to destinations like the Maldives, South Africa, and Patagonia in search of remote wilderness paired with high-end accommodations. Now, however, Mongolia is making its own play for the ultra-luxury travel market.

The country has officially welcomed its first ultra-luxury hotel with the opening of Ayan Zalaat Hotel & Spa, a boutique retreat set near the UNESCO-listed Bogd Khan Uul Biosphere Reserve on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. The property marks a major milestone for Mongolia's tourism industry, bringing a level of luxury hospitality that has largely been absent from the destination until now.

Located in the scenic Zalaat Valley, the hotel combines contemporary design, wellness experiences, and cultural programming with access to one of the world's oldest protected natural landscapes. The Bogd Khan Uul Biosphere Reserve is known for its ecological importance, forested mountains, and deep cultural significance. It was officially declared a protected sacred mountain in 1783 by imperial decree and is one of the earliest known cases of environmental protection on the planet.

The Bogd Khan Uul Biosphere Reserve was recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1996 and has since remained "a living testament to Mongolia's deep ecological and cultural reverence for nature," according to the hotel, which offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the reserve and pristine wilderness just 6 km (3.7 miles) outside the capital city.

A boutique hotel with big luxury ambitions

"The word Ayan means 'gift from God' in Sanskrit—a name that reflects our purpose: to offer not just a stay, but a sanctuary," the hotel writes. "Nestled within a quiet, protected valley on the edge of the city, Ayan Zalaat offers a rare sense of seclusion while remaining deeply connected to the cultural heart of Mongolia. Here, under infinite blue skies and framed by rolling hills, we invite you to experience a place where nature, heritage, and stillness come together in perfect harmony."

Unlike many large luxury resorts, Ayan Zalaat is intentionally intimate. The property creates an exclusive atmosphere for guests seeking privacy and personalized service. Designed by Italian architect Fabio Frisco, the hotel blends sleek European-inspired interiors with handcrafted Mongolian details, including locally sourced textiles, wool furnishings and cultural design elements that celebrate the country's heritage.

Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the property frame sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, helping blur the line between indoors and outdoors. The result is a hotel that feels deeply connected to its natural surroundings while still offering all the comforts expected from a five-star retreat.

Guests will also find an impressive range of amenities rarely associated with Mongolia's hospitality scene. The hotel includes multiple restaurants and bars, a rooftop terrace, a private wine cellar, a members-only cigar lounge, a bowling alley, karaoke rooms, and even a private cinema.

Wellness, culture, and adventure under one roof

One of the property's biggest draws may be its wellness offerings. Developed in partnership with Switzerland's Clinique Nescens, the spa combines longevity-focused treatments with traditional Mongolian wellness practices. Facilities include saunas, salt rooms, specialized hydrotherapy experiences, and wellness programs designed around relaxation and rejuvenation.

The hotel also aims to immerse visitors in Mongolian culture. Guests can attend traditional performances, including the country's famous throat-singing, while dedicated cultural spaces showcase local customs and artistic traditions.

For travelers eager to explore beyond the property, the concierge can arrange off-road expeditions and sightseeing adventures into Mongolia's vast landscapes. That combination of luxury and adventure is increasingly attractive to affluent travelers seeking experiences that go beyond a standard beach vacation.

"Ayan Zalaat was envisioned as a place where many experiences could coexist within one setting—combining culture, wellness, dining, entertainment, and gathering spaces, while meeting the expectations of both international travelers and local guests," Tselmuun Nyamtaishir, founder and CEO of Ayan Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement. "More than a single opening, it reflects our commitment to shaping the future of tourism in Mongolia."

Until now, Mongolia's high-end tourism offerings have largely centered on upscale wilderness lodges and luxury ger camps in the Gobi Desert. The country's first true ultra-luxury hotel introduces a new category altogether.

For travelers looking for somewhere genuinely different, Mongolia's newest luxury retreat may offer exactly that: five-star comfort surrounded by some of the most untouched landscapes on Earth.

1970's Rock Legend Surprises Fans By Quietly Releasing Free Concert Film

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:24pm

Neil Young has provided fans with a little surprise!

The legendary musician quietly released a free concert film titled Corduroy Plants on the Neil Young Archives. The hour-long film includes 11 songs from his album As Time Explodes, which he released a few weeks ago. It features performances from his 2025 U.S. and European tour with The Chrome Hearts.

The newly released film was directed by his wife, Daryl Hannah, who was also behind his 2025 documentary, Coastal. And with that, it also cut to scenes from recent news events and historical moments while Young plays.

There was no announcement about the film. It was simply dropped on the Neil Young Archives for fans to discover.

Young also has a new album he recently recorded with Chrome Hearts at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California, titled Second Song, but has yet to announce a release date. The album will include three songs that Young wrote in 1963. His first album with Chrome Hearts, Talking To The Trees, came out in 2025.

As for the Chrome Hearts, they were assembled by Young in September 2024, featuring guitarist Micah Nelson, organist Spooner Oldham, bassist Corey McCormick, and drummer Anthony LoGerfo.

Neil Young Canceled His 2026 Tour

In February, Young posted a message to fans on his website, announcing that he had to cancel his planned 2026 tour dates with the Chrome Hearts in the U.K. and Europe.

“I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time,” the message said. “Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts.”

The tour was set to begin on June 19 in Manchester, England, and run through July 26, concluding in Udine, Italy. Elvis Costello and the Imposters were set to open on select dates.

'Little House on the Prairie' Alum Melissa Gilbert Pens Emotional Goodbye Message

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:23pm

Melissa Gilbert is closing the door on a big chapter of her life — literally.

The Little House on the Prairie actress revealed this week that she is moving out of her New York City apartment after eight years. The major life update comes in the wake of ongoing legal woes involving her husband Timothy Busfield, who was arrested earlier this year on child sexual abuse charges.

Gilbert, 62, penned an emotional goodbye to the NYC apartment in a sentimental Instagram post on Tuesday, June 23, where she shared photos of the moving boxes lined up in the living room.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

"So long perfect little one bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side," she began in her caption. "The last eight years here have been so special. A lot of amazing work was done in and around this city . So many theaters and soundstages . So many wonderful dinners with friends and nights out on the town. I’ll miss the walking and our neighborhood, the subway rides, the amazing people I’ve met there and on the streets."

Gilbert continued: "This city truly has a pulse. You can feel it in your heart. Goodbye favorite newsstand, bodega, dance studio, and laundry. Goodbye shoe repair, dry cleaners, nail salon . Goodbye sweet neighbors whom we love so much. And a very fond 'farewell and see you soon' to our favorite city in the world."

Gilbert seemed to subtly address the current situation involving her husband while writing, "I promise we will be back it’s just that right now…..well….you know."

She concluded the message, "Excited to live in our wonderful home upstate full time for a good long while."

View this post on Instagram

Gilbert, who has been married to Busfield since 2013, has been standing by her husband's side as he navigates the charges lodged against him. In February, the West Wing actor was indicted by a New Mexico grand jury on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child under 13.

Busfield has consistently denied the accusations against him, and earlier this month, his defense team filed a motion to quash the grand jury indictment on the grounds of alleged prosecutorial misconduct during the grand jury proceedings.

Fans Are Calling This Popular Snack Brand's Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch Bar Their 'New Favorite'

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:15pm

Perfect Bar has spent years building a devoted fan base thanks to its refrigerated protein bars packed with recognizable ingredients and a refreshingly simple approach to snacking.

While plenty of brands have entered the protein bar space hoping to balance nutrition and flavor, Perfect Bar has stood out by leaning into whole-food ingredients, organic honey, nut butters and a fridge-fresh format that feels a little less processed than the average grab-and-go snack.

😋😋 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳🍔

Now, the brand is expanding its lineup with a newer offering that might just be its most craveable creation yet—the Protein + Prebiotics Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch Bar.

As someone who has tried more protein bars than I'd care to admit, I can confidently say this one has landed at the very top of my snack bar rankings.

Fans Are Calling Perfect Bar's New Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch Bar a Must-Try

Courtesy Perfect Bar

The first thing that stands out is the texture. Unlike many protein bars that are dense, chewy or oddly sticky, this one delivers an incredibly satisfying crunch thanks to crispy quinoa mixed throughout. Every bite combines creamy peanut butter, rich dark chocolate and just the right amount of crunch, creating a texture that feels more like a treat than a nutritional snack.

Flavor-wise, it hits that sweet spot between indulgent and balanced. It's slightly sweet, a little salty, intensely peanut buttery, and loaded with chocolate flavor without becoming overwhelmingly sugary. The combination feels familiar in the best way possible—like a peanut butter cup that grew up and got serious about nutrition.

Speaking of nutrition, the ingredient list is one of the biggest perks. Each bar contains 20 grams of protein along with six grams of fiber, including three grams of prebiotic fiber designed to support digestive health.

The bars are made with ingredients like peanut butter, grass-fed whey protein, organic honey, chicory root fiber, dark chocolate and a blend of more than 20 superfoods. Just as notable is what they don't contain—artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

Perfect Bar's Protein + Prebiotics bar manages to do something surprisingly rare—it tastes genuinely great while still delivering the nutritional benefits you'd expect from a modern protein snack. For peanut butter and chocolate fans, it's an easy recommendation—and will easily be your next favorite bar.

Waldorf Astoria's First-Ever London Hotel Is Opening Inside a Historic Royal Landmark

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:14pm

For more than a century, London's Admiralty Arch has served as one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Standing at the ceremonial entrance to The Mall — between Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square — the grand Edwardian structure has welcomed royalty, world leaders, and millions of visitors passing through the heart of the British capital.

And, soon, travelers will be able to do more than admire it from the outside.

The long-awaited Waldorf Astoria London – Admiralty Arch is now accepting reservations ahead of its scheduled autumn 2026 debut, transforming one of the city's most historic buildings into a luxury hotel for the first time in its history. The project marks the arrival of the first-ever Waldorf Astoria property in London and is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated hotel openings of the year.

Following an extensive restoration of the Grade I-listed landmark, the hotel will blend more than 100 years of British history with modern luxury hospitality. Originally commissioned by King Edward VII in memory of Queen Victoria and completed in 1912, Admiralty Arch has previously served as government offices and the residence of the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy.

Prime Investors Capital Ltd (PIC), the development partner behind the building, acquired Admiralty Arch in 2015 and partnered with Hilton to open as the Waldorf Astoria luxury hotel.

In a 2017 announcement, Chief Executive Officer Rafael Serrano said, "We have made many decisions that will impact not only the future of the building and the local area, but also the profile of the very heart of London."

A team of "talented experts with the experience and knowledge to capture the spirit of this magnificent building" has been appointed to bring the "detailed plan to transform Admiralty Arch into an extraordinary Hotel, Residences and Private Members Club" to fruition. And, now, it's in the final stretches.

A royal address in the heart of London

Location is one of the hotel's biggest draws. The property sits directly between Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, offering guests an address that places many of London's most famous attractions within walking distance. Views from the building stretch across The Mall, St. James's Park, and some of the capital's most recognizable landmarks.

When it opens, the hotel will feature 114 rooms, suites, and residences spread across approximately 200,000 square feet. More than half of the accommodations will be dedicated to spacious signature suites and residential-style accommodations inspired by the building's naval history, including names such as the Nelson Suite and Victory Residence. A two-bedroom suite in the fourth-floor bridge (the arch), in particular, will offer exceptional views of Buckingham Palace, and The Points Guy says it will certainly become "one of the most coveted rooms in London."

Luxury travelers can also expect a private spa featuring treatment rooms, sauna, and hydrotherapy facilities, along with event spaces including a grand ballroom designed for weddings, galas, and corporate gatherings.

Christopher J. Nassetta, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hilton, said in the 2017 announcement that the project "marries the timeless elegance of Waldorf Astoria with the historic grandeur of one of London's great monuments."

"Projects of this calibre are rare, and Admiralty Arch Waldorf Astoria will provide a truly unforgettable hospitality experience when it opens to guests," he said. "Waldorf Astoria has a legacy of protecting and enhancing historical buildings, from our flagship hotel in New York ... to this incredible property in London. This partnership brings our iconic luxury brand to London's finest address."

Celebrity chefs will headline the dining experience

The hotel is also making a major play for London's competitive dining scene.

Waldorf Astoria has enlisted two of the culinary world's biggest names to lead its flagship restaurants: Michelin-starred British chef Clare Smyth and renowned French chef Daniel Boulud. Their restaurants, Coreus and Café Boulud, are expected to become destinations in their own right when the hotel opens next year.

The addition of two globally recognized chefs underscores the property's ambition to compete with London's top luxury hotels, many of which have increasingly focused on destination dining experiences as a way to attract both guests and locals.

While room rates currently start at roughly £660 per night (about $870), demand is expected to be strong given the building's iconic status and prime location. For travelers seeking a quintessentially British luxury experience, it may be difficult to find a more fitting address.

1979 One-Hit Wonder Remains a Soft Rock Breakup Anthem Nearly 50 Years Later

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:04pm

Even if a song reaches immediate success, it doesn't mean the tune will have staying power. TheAmerican Songwriter recently spotlighted some once-beloved soft rock hits that have somewhat faded into obscurity. The publication's list of "3 forgotten soft rock hits that still sound incredible late at night," featured the tunes 1972's “Lake Shore Drive” by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, 1979's “Sara” by Fleetwood Mac, and Randy VanWarmer's “Just When I Needed You Most," also released in 1979.

The publication reported VanWarmer's soft rock break-up song, off his album Warmer, secured the No. 4 Billboard Hot 100 spot the year it was released.

In a 1979 interview with WKIP Radio, VanWarmer, who died when he was 48 in 2004, shared some insight into writing “Just When I Needed You Most." He explained that he believed the song's theme of abandonment following the end of a relationship is universal.

"First of all, I think it's an emotion that I think a lot of people have felt. And it's certainly an emotion that I felt, and it's basically about someone leaving someone," said VanWarmer in the 1979 interview.

He also said that he got inspiration for the tune after "listening to some a cappella gospel music."

"Some of the melodies just, I guess, inspired that because it really just came to me in a flash, almost. And then I just worked for about two weeks, just trying to just kind of polishing the song. Working on a melody for the verse and setting that emotion in a situation that I felt a lot of people would be able to identify with," said VanWarmer.

During the WKIP Radio interview, VanWarmer also explained why Warmer took over a year to complete. He said he and his bandmates "recorded the basic tracks in Nashville for the album in about eight days." They then worked with an English producer, "who was really a string arranger," to record "the strings and vocals."

VanWarmer said that the finished product "wasn't really terribly well accepted by the record company" in the United States. He decided to collaborate with a different sound engineer to ensure the album had more success. According to VanWarmer, he and his band "did almost everything over again" for the newer version of the record, which "just took a long time."

Renouncing U.S. Citizenship Has Never Been Cheaper— Here's Where Americans Are 'Escaping' To

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:03pm

How much does it cost to renounce your U.S. citizenship? For the first time in ten years, it costs just $450 to file for a Certificate of Loss of Nationality of the United States (CLN). In 2015, surging demand from Americans to permanently cut their legal ties with the United States prompted the State Department to hike that fee to $2,350. But the 80% drop in price doesn’t mean that interest in expatriation has also dipped. In fact, a record number of Americans left the country in 2025.

Where are they going? And are those greener pastures worth exploring on your next vacation? You might be surprised by some of the best destinations for expats in 2026.

What’s the Difference Between Expatriation and Renouncing Citizenship?

According to the Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO), at least 5.5 million Americans currently live abroad as expatriates, meaning they reside in a non-U.S. country. These expatriates might be digital nomads, skilled foreign workers, retirees, or wealthy investors whose "sovereign portfolios” can purchase so-called golden visas and fast-track dual citizenship.

In 2015, changes to the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) prompted a record number of American expats to renounce their citizenship permanently to reduce their tax and banking liabilities, which is ostensibly why the State Department increased CLN fees that year. The expatriation rate surged again in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when a record 6,047 individuals moved abroad.

Up until 2025, however, that increased rate of expatriation was balanced out by the nearly 90-year trend of net-positive migration in the U.S. That means legal immigration to the United States exceeded the number of people leaving. Last year, however, the United States saw net-negative migration for the first time since the 1930s.

The Brookings Institution estimates that a record 150,000 people expatriated in 2025, and according to the Treasury Department at least 5,000 of those individuals formally relinquished their citizenship rather than simply moving abroad. Those trends are unlikely to slow down, given a Harris Poll which revealed 40% of Americans have expressed interest in moving abroad and 50% of Americans want (or have already obtained) a second passport

Where Are Expats Moving in 2026?

There are plenty of reasons Americans want to swap their stars and stripes for a different nationality, but where to land is the trickier question. So-called “golden visa” programs emerged almost 20 years ago when the global financial landscape looked much different. European countries like Greece and Italy were eager to court investment from wealthy Americans with millions in the bank and the kind of jet-setting lifestyles that made a second passport make sense.

In 2020, however, the COVID-19 pandemic spurred a shift to remote work, enabling thousands of digital nomads to take advantage of special visas, short residency requirements, and citizenship-by-investment programs. The number of Americans in Portugal, for example, quintupled to 26,000 from nearly 5,000 in just five years. That global gentrification trend, combined with overtourism, has prompted some countries to tighten their visa and residency requirements.

The affluent continue to flock to high-net-worth havens like Singapore, New Zealand, the Cayman Islands, Cyprus and the Netherlands. According to Henley & Partners, even regional instability in South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA) hasn’t discouraged wealthy expats from investing in Gulf nations, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. For the average American expat, however, who might be more motivated to escape the increasing cost of living in the United States, countries in Eastern and Central Europe, Central and South America and Southeast Asia remain feasible.

The Ancestry Angle

Countries like Italy and Ireland have been inundated with descendants of 19th-century immigrants hoping to return to their roots. Now the full-circle trend is continuing as expats make new ancestral claims to residency in Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland, Albania and Estonia. Meanwhile, a 2024 survey found that the top ten cities for finance-minded expats include relatively affordable locales like Panama City, Mexico City, Bangkok, and Kuala Lmpar.

Related: Europe Has a New Checkpoint After Passport Control — Here's How to Get Through It Without Missing Your Flight

Some of those destinations have long been top-of mind for Americans who dream of life abroad. English-speaking countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand continue to top the list of most desirable countries for would-be expats. Indeed, of the millions of Americans already living abroad, AARO reports that the majority reside in Mexico, Canada, the UK, Israel, Germany, Australia, South Korea, France, Japan, and Spain.

That lineup might continue to diversify over the next few years, however. At no time since The Great Depression have so many Americans moved abroad, so quickly. Immigration policy has evolved rapidly in just a few short years, not only in expat magnets like Portugal and Spain but also in the United States itself. The factors expats include in their decision-making has expanded beyond questions of cultural similarity, language compatibility and financial opportunity to include residency pathways for vulnerable groups like people with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community. Now with a reduced financial barrier for citizenship renunciation, we might see even more expats shifting their dual-citizen dreams to a single passport swap.

'80s Hard Rock Guitar Icon Pays Unexpected Tribute to One of the Most Influential Country Stars of All Time

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:03pm

Guns ‘N’ Roses guitar legend Slash, 60, remains one of rock music’s most revered guitar players and is regularly invited to perform with other artists. Known for his iconic onstage persona—including his top hat, hair covering his eyes, and a cigarette dangling from his mouth—the guitar hero is still rocking nearly four decades after the band’s debut. Despite his long and enduring career in music, Slash is still full of surprises.

In a social media post shared Tuesday, Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, shared a sweet tribute to country queen Dolly Parton. The post, originally shared by @lordrarerock and later reshared by the Guns ‘N’ Roses icon, included a carousel of nostalgic Dolly Parton photos and performance videos, along with the following text:

“DOLLY PARTON - From a cabin in the Smoky Mountains to the world’s biggest stages, the stunning Dolly Parton’s journey is a testament to grit, grace, and a voice that can hush a crowded room. She’s penned more than 3,000 songs, sold over 100 million records, and built a legacy that shines as bright as her rhinestones under the spotlight. Yet behind every hit and every standing ovation is a storyteller whose heart beats for the people and the truth in every note. Talent like this is born and it never fades.”

"My absolute fav. Every wedding every birthday every request for a song. It’s always this one."

"He’s absolutely right."

"ONE OF THE BEST GROUPS EVER!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰 LOVE ❤️EWF!! 🤗🤗🤗"

Of course, the band has several other hits that have defined their career, but "September" has undoubtedly stood the test of time and endured through other generations and music fans. Watch This Former 'American Idol' Top 20 Contestant Stun Simon Cowell in 'America's Got Talent' Golden Buzzer Audition

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 5:00pm

British singer Mackenzie Sol first auditioned for judge Simon Cowell on The X-Factor when he was just 4 years old. At that time, Simon told the aspiring young singer, “In 12 years time, you’re through,” never realizing how prophetic his words would be.

“That moment in that room was when I knew I wanted to be a singer,” Mackenzie told AGThost Terry Crews backstage as they looked at a video of the performance.

Now, Mackenzie is back in front of Simon, as well as his fellow judges Howie Mandel,Sofia Vergara and Mel B for the new season of America’s Got Talent as well as his mum and his whole family in the audience.

“Hopefully, I don’t go out there and make a fool of myself,” said Mackenzie, who admitted to be very nervous at the size of the audience. “I don't know why it took 21 years. I did a lot of singing back home. I did what I could. It's just really hard to make it where I come from. It’s  such a small town."

Mackenzie was hoping Simon would remember him, but it’s quite the stretch because he doesn’t resemble his 4-year-old self. He’s a grown man now.

When Simon asked the 25-year-old singer from Newcastle, England, what he had been doing, he answered, “The last three years, I've just been singing in my local clubs and pubs and just doing what I can.”

He failed to mention that he auditioned for Season 22 (2024) of American Idol and made it all the way to the Top 20 before being eliminated.

But he did take a minute to tell Simon that he auditioned for him when he was four years old on The X-Factor.

Simon went along with it saying, “I swear. I was about to say we’d met. So, what happened?”

To which Mackenzie replied, “I was four years old.” Everyone laughed as Mackenzie added, “It was a great experience. Obviously, I got to meet you and I am here today to do my thing.”

Then it was time for him to sing and he chose to perform  “back to friends” by Sombr, earning a standing ovation from the judges and a Golden Buzzer from Mel B, which is in the below early release video.

Mel B said, “I think you are absolutely, extraordinarily fabulous. I'm glad I got to speak first because I'm going to do this.”  And she hit the Golden Buzzer.

Made from 100% leather, these slip-on flats feature Clarks' signature memory foam footbed, which is lined with small perforations to help promote airflow. United's New Airport Lounge Will Let Travelers Sip Cocktails on a 4,000-Square-Foot Outdoor Terrace

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 4:56pm

For many travelers, airport lounges offer a brief respite from rushing through terminals and finding solace in sardined gate seating. And, soon, passengers flying through San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will have an even better reason to arrive early.

United Airlines is building a brand-new United Club lounge at SFO's Terminal 2, and one feature is already generating buzz: a massive 4,000-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking the airfield. According to early details, it will be the largest outdoor space United has ever offered at one of its airport lounges.

The new lounge is expected to open by the end of 2026 as part of a broader expansion and modernization effort at SFO, where United is the largest carrier. The airline already operates multiple lounges at SFO, but the new Terminal 2 location is designed to help accommodate growing passenger traffic while offering a more premium experience.

A lounge designed around California sunshine

The standout feature of the new United Club is undoubtedly its outdoor terrace. The space will offer sweeping views of aircraft movements on the airfield, giving aviation enthusiasts and casual travelers alike a front-row seat to departures and arrivals.

Unlike many airport observation areas, the terrace is being designed for year-round use. Plans call for shaded seating areas during warmer months, as well as partially covered sections equipped with heaters for California's cooler-weather months.

According to The Points Guy's Sean Cudahy, who went on a hard-hat tour of the new club (still under construction), the terrace "will sport an expansive open area with seating for solo and group travelers." He added that a pass-through bar will also allow travelers to grab drinks without having to head back inside the lounge.

The design takes advantage of San Francisco's generally mild climate and aligns with a growing trend among airport lounges that emphasizes wellness, natural light, and outdoor access. While airport lounges have traditionally focused on food, drinks, and workspaces, many airlines are increasingly adding features that help travelers feel less confined and more relaxed before long flights.

Part of a bigger transformation at SFO

The new lounge arrives as SFO undergoes a multibillion-dollar modernization project that is reshaping portions of the airport. Construction work has already shifted some airline operations between terminals, creating opportunities for new lounge spaces and upgrades. United has previously indicated that the Terminal 2 club is just one piece of a larger effort to overhaul its lounge offerings at the airport.

The addition could also help United address one of the biggest complaints travelers have about airport lounges today: overcrowding. Demand for lounge access has surged in recent years thanks to premium credit cards and airline loyalty programs, making additional space increasingly valuable.

For travelers passing through one of the country's busiest airports, the ability to enjoy fresh air, runway views, and a cocktail before boarding may make the new United Club one of the most sought-after lounge experiences in the airline's network.

'Fast & Furious' Star Reveals the Rare Brain Condition That Made Pregnancy Too Risky

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 4:54pm

In a recent editorial for The Cut, the Fast & Furious star Jordana Brewster is finally opening up about one of the most difficult times in her life. The actress, who shares sons Julian, 12, and Rowan, 10, with her ex-husband, Andrew Form, wasn't able to carry her children due to a cavernous malformation (CVM), in her brain.

The Medical Diagnosis That Changed Everything

According to the Mayo Clinic, a CVM is "an irregularly formed blood vessel, shaped like a small mulberry" that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. Those with CVM can have severe headaches, seizures, and even brain bleeds if they're not careful. Her doctor advised her against getting pregnant. "He thought the increased blood flow caused by pregnancy would make it dangerous for myself and the baby," Brewster wrote.

Playing the Role of Mother-to-Be

While her surrogate, Jessica, experienced the nausea, mood swings, and weight gain typically associated with pregnancy, Brewster tried to prepare by reading books, researching formulas, and taking baby CPR classes. "The preparation kept me busy, but it was empty," Brewster wrote. "I was playing the role of mother-to-be while feeling nothing."

She vividly recalled driving back to her hotel after flying into Dallas for Jessica's six-month checkup. She broke down as she realized that she was driving away from her child.

"I sobbed and sobbed in my hotel room until I almost vomited," she admitted. "I wanted to vomit, actually, because at least that would be real. Maybe I just wanted to punish myself for not doing what any self-respecting woman can do: carry her own child. Pregnancy and childbirth were rites of passage, and I was grieving an experience I hadn’t known I even wanted in the first place."

Battling Imposter Syndrome in Silence

After bringing Julian home, Brewster struggled with "imposter syndrome" as she tried to bond with the small infant. However, she was convinced that what she felt proved that there was something wrong with her, so she kept her feelings to herself for years.

View this post on Instagram Confronting the Past and Redefining Motherhood

A few years later, she welcomed her second son via surrogate. When the pandemic hit, she asked for a divorce and decided it was time to remove the CVM. After the surgery, she asked to see it. "I wanted to face the little ball of nerves that had defined motherhood for me for a decade," she wrote.

Six years later, the imposter syndrome is gone, along with a new perspective. "The real work of motherhood isn’t just pregnancy," she realized. "It’s in the small, invisible, daily acts: the playdates, food fairs, school meetings, emergency-room visits, the co-sleeping."

Ultimately, Brewster’s journey highlights that motherhood is defined by the emotional resilience and daily devotion required to raise a child. By confronting her grief, imposter syndrome, and the medical condition that altered her path, she discovered that the true essence of being a mother lies in the invisible, everyday acts of love and showing up for her children.

Connor Storrie Turns Heads in Latest Paris Fashion Week Appearance

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 4:47pm

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing, and Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storrie has returned to the city to attend the Saint Laurent show.

The actor made his Paris Fashion Week debut earlier this year, where he wore a khaki suit, a yellow shirt and a neutral silk-satin tie. As an ambassador for Saint Laurent, he was a guest alongside his Heated Rivalry co-stars François Arnaud and Robbie G.K.

Although it doesn’t look like his co-stars tagged along for the Paris trip this time, Storrie turned heads as he stepped out in a chic trench coat from Saint Laurent’s winter 2026 runway look 31. He paired the coat with a mesh tank top underneath, sitting front row at the Saint Laurent Menswear Spring/Summer 2027 show.

“Oh, and he was sat front row with Madonna,” Entertainment Tonight noted in an Instagram post.

Fans flocked to Entertainment Tonight’s comment section, obsessing over both Storrie’s outfit and his seating arrangement.

“He’s so at ease,” one user noted. “If I sat next to Madonna I’d flip out!”

“Not me grinning at these pics from my cubicle,” another said.

“He’s actually ethereal,” another said on an X post from The Cut.

In a behind-the-scenes video of a photoshoot from Interview Magazine, a video circulated on social media of Storrie singing along and dancing to Madonna’s hit song “Like A Prayer.” Several fans commented, wondering if the Queen of Pop was aware of this.

“I really hope she saw his iconic performance,” one user joked.

Storrie’s Fashion Week appearance comes ahead of his return as Ilya Rozanov to season two of Heated Rivalry, which is set to film this August.

“We’re filming this summer,” Storrie said when The Perfect Magazine asked when the next season would be. “So I don’t know how long you gotta wait after that. But it’s coming.”

Jack White's Wife Files for Divorce, Says Marriage Became 'Unsafe'

Tue, 06/23/2026 - 4:45pm

Jack White's marriage to fellow musician Olivia Jean appears to be coming to an end.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Tuesday, June 23, Jean filed for divorce from the White Stripes guitarist earlier this month, ending a marriage that lasted just over four years.

In the filing, Jean listed their date of separation as June 3 and cited serious allegations as part of the proceedings. According to the outlet, she claimed White, 50, is "guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper."

Jean, 36, is also reportedly seeking spousal support, claiming she relies on White's income to cover her expenses. In addition, she requested to remain on his life insurance policy despite the separation. At this time, neither White nor Jean has publicly addressed the divorce filing as of publication.

The divorce filing arrives during what has already been an emotional year for White.

In March, the Detroit-born rocker shared the heartbreaking news that his mother, Teresa Gillis, had died at the age of 95. White announced her passing in a tribute to fans, mourning the woman who helped shape his life long before he became one of rock music's most recognizable figures.

“Teresa Gillis. 1930-2026. A woman who gave so much of her love, and gave so much of herself, to her family and everyone she met,” he started off his Instagram tribute, which featured sweet photos of her attending White’s shows. “She smiled and laughed so much, especially in these last few days with her family, who will all miss her dearly.”

This year has already seen several high-profile music industry breakups make headlines, most recently the shocking split betweenJelly Rolland Bunnie Xo after nearly a decade of marriage.

Court records obtained by multiple outlets showed Jelly Roll filed in Tennessee in May, citing irreconcilable differences. The news surprised many fans, particularly because the couple had continued to publicly celebrate one another in recent months and talk about their journey with IVF.
