This 'Pulp Fiction' Star Was Originally Cast as Marty McFly in 'Back to The Future'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 11:16am

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Michael J. Fox playing Marty McFly in Back to the Future. But before it became one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s, another actor actually spent weeks filming in the role—Eric Stoltz.

Stoltz was originally cast as Marty when production on Back to the Future began in 1984. Director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale reportedly wanted Fox, 64, from the beginning, but scheduling conflicts with Family Ties initially kept him unavailable. Universal Pictures executive Sid Sheinberg instead pushed for Stoltz, 64, after being impressed by his previous performances.

But the fit reportedly became an issue once filming started. According to the 2015 book We Don’t Need Roads: The Making of the Back to the Future Trilogy, the actor approached the role with too serious a tone.

“Eric had such an intensity. He saw drama in things. He wasn’t really a comedian, and they needed a comedian,” co-star Lea Thompson said in the book. Christopher Lloyd, who famously played Doc Brown, reportedly agreed. “Although he was doing the part well, he was not bringing that element of comedy to the screen,” he recalled.

After more than a month of shooting, Zemeckis and Gale ultimately made the difficult decision to replace Stoltz with Fox and reshoot much of the movie.

But there doesn’t appear to be any lingering bad blood between Stoltz and Fox, either. In his 2025 memoir Future Boy, Fox revealed in the epilogue that he recently reached out to Stoltz about the recast role reversal. Fox said he wrote the actor a letter acknowledging the awkward history and joked that if Stoltz wanted to tell him to “piss off and leave me alone,” he’d understand. According to Fox, Stoltz responded with a little humor of his own, writing, “‘Piss off and leave me alone!’” before adding, “‘I jest…’” Fox said Stoltz ultimately declined to participate in the book.

Back to the Future obviously went on to become a massive box-office success. Stoltz, meanwhile, went on to build a long career of his own, appearing in films like Pulp Fiction and Jerry Maguire, before eventually moving behind the camera as well. He has director credits in episodes of TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy,Glee, and more.

4 Birth Dates Make the Best Grandmothers

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 11:15am

Whether you’re a new mother or dad who is looking forward to seeing your own mom begin to build a heartfelt bond with her grandchild or you’re an experienced, doting grandma who is head over heels for your many grandchildren, there’s no doubt that the bond between a grandmother and grandchild is a truly special one. They’re endless sources of laughter, wisdom, and heart for their grandchildren, and grandmothers themselves benefit from the experience of raising a child from a whole new, more seasoned perspective.

Every grandma has a distinctive perspective and unique strengths to offer their family. Maybe they’re adventurers who broaden their grandchild’s horizons with different languages, art, and travel. Or they’re gourmet chefs who introduce them to time-honored recipes. But there are some grandmothers who, thanks to their birth date, are actually quite exceptional.

NEXT: The 4 Birth Months With Poetic Minds

Born on the 6th: The Beauty-Loving, Peace-Keeping Grandmother

If a grandmother came into the world on one of these dates, she was born on a day that’s associated with the planet Venus, which oversees pleasure, relationships, beauty, art, diplomacy, and romance. In turn, these grandmas are creatives, social butterflies, event planners, and excel at applying their artistic eye to bringing more beauty and harmony to any experience. They’ll make sweet memories with their grandkids by helping plan a stunning, well-attended party, introducing them to their favorite music, and striking up impromptu dance parties in the kitchen. They might also pass on their romantic point of view, instilling the value of prioritizing love and bliss over just about everything else.

Born on the 17th: The Wise, Grounded Grandmother

Born on a date that’s associated with Saturn, the taskmaster planet that oversees boundaries, restrictions, limitations, and commitment, these grandmothers are down-to-earth, rational, and hardworking. Their work ethic alone is something their grandchildren will grow up to admire and want to emulate. They also have a deep appreciation for tradition, structure, history, and laying solid foundations, so they’ll go out of their way to pass that grounded perspective onto their grandkids. In fact, they may very well end up becoming their greatest, most beloved teacher

Born on the 19th: The Sunny, Confident Grandmother

Grandmothers born on any of these dates have a connection to the sun, the luminary that oversees purpose, self-image, and confidence in astrology. In turn, they’re self-assured, driven, charismatic, and magnetic. These grandmas model for their grandchildren what it means to be a leader who’s comfortable in the spotlight. They excel at bringing a ton of lightheartedness and joie de vivre into the home, and they’ll nurture their grandchildren’s identity, urging them to feel unafraid to stand strong and shine in their sense of selves.

Beloved ‘80s Band Forced to Cancel Tour Due to ‘Serious Medical Issue’

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 11:06am

Just days after they announced their summer tour dates, the Psychedelic Furs have been forced to cancel their spring and summer tour dates “due to a serious medical issue in the band.”

The Furs made the announcement on May 8 on their Facebook account in a post featuring the band’s star logo and a caption that read in full: “UPDATE: Due to a serious medical issue in the band, the tour dates scheduled for spring and summer are being cancelled. Please accept our deepest apologies for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at point of purchase. More soon.”

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

It’s unclear who in the band is suffering from the undisclosed medical issue. Singer Richard Butler, who formed the Furs with his brother Tim in 1977, are the only original members still in the band. Richard will turn 70 on June 5, while Tim is 67.

The band is best known for their 1981 song “Pretty in Pink,” which inspired the name of the 1986 John Hughes film starring Molly Ringwald. The band re-recorded a more polished version of the song for the film’s soundtrack.

This isn’t the first time in recent memory that the Furs have been beset by health problems. The band’s longtime saxophonist Mars Williams died on Nov. 20, 2023, at the age of 68 after suffering from ampullary cancer. Despite his illness, Williams continued to perform live with the band through October. We caught one of his final performances on Oct. 13, 2023, where Richard Butler saluted Williams on stage before Williams took the spotlight on the sax-laden Furs’ classic “Sister Europe,” from their 1980 self-titled debut.

Original guitarist John Ashton, who left the band after they went on a hiatus in 1992, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021. His friend, singer/bassist Gail Ann Dorsey, launched a GoFundMe to help play for his medical treatment. In 2024, Ashton shared that his cancer is in remission.

On March 5, the Furs had announced a summer tour with Living Colour in addition to previously announced spring dates with We Are Scientists.

On the band’s official website, three shows are still listed, but it’s unclear if the band plans to play them. The dates listed are May 31 at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, Calif., Aug. 9 at Northfield Park Racino in Northfield, Ohio with Living Colour, and Nov. 14 in Huntington Beach, Calif. at the Dark Waves Festival, which is headlined by Morrissey and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Since reforming in 2000, the Furs have been a regular presence on the touring circuit. They played 64 dates in 2025 and 50 in 2024, according to setlist.fm.

In a 2020 interview with this writer for the streaming service TIDAL, Richard Butler addressed the band’s ties to the movie Pretty in Pink.

“It’s a double-edged sword, the Pretty in Pink thing. It brought us a good deal of attention, but I think — John Hughes, God bless him — the song was sort of misrepresented. I think a lot of people think it’s about somebody actually wearing a pink dress and taking it all quite literally, but it wasn’t about that at all,” he explained. “So when ‘Love My Way’ was used in [the 2017 film] Call Me By Your Name, it felt like it righted the balance somewhat. Because I thought that was an excellent use of it, and that song couldn’t have found a better place to be.”

Aldi Is Selling a Pretty Washable Rug That Adds Boho Vibes to Any Outdoor Space

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 11:05am

Usually when I'm refreshing my patio or front porch, I like to add color—and a lot of it. I just like cheerful pops of happiness across these spaces. Now, that might mean bright throw pillows or even vibrant storage pieces, but I try to match the gorgeous energy nature delivers during spring and summer.

However, to make sure it doesn't become a clashing situation, I do try to balance all that color with some relatively large swaths of neutrals. So, for instance, let's say I'm going bold with outdoor sofa cushions, I'll take it down a notch with the patio rug. Not that there's anything wrong with going full dopamine decor outside, but a little balance is just my personal preference.

Kirkton House 5' X 7' Washable Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug - Geometric. $49.99 at Aldi

Aldi

Aldi is selling some really lovely indoor/outdoor area rugs that really match exactly what I'm talking about. Some prints are a little louder than others, but this gray-and-white geometric print shown above will work amazingly well in my outdoor space, and I imagine yours too. It adds texture to a porch or patio without overwhelming it, and the cool neutral really works with any brighter color palette.

If you've shopped for outdoor rugs before, you know they can get really pricey. So $49.99 for a five-by-seven-foot rug at Aldi is a more affordable option without sacrificing style.

Related: Kohl's Is Selling a 6-Piece Quick-Drying Towel Set in the Loveliest Spring Colors

A five-by-seven-foot rug is kind of that sweet-spot size for a patio or porch because it's big enough to make the space feel cozy, but not so oversized that it swallows everything or feels hard to work around.

You can use it to anchor a small seating area, like a couple of outdoor chairs with a side table, or to give a front porch that styled, welcoming look without covering every inch of the floor. Slide the front legs of your furniture onto it to create an "outdoor living room" vibe, or center it under a bistro set for an easy setup. Even on its own, it helps you define the space, adds softness underfoot, and makes the area look finished. Frankly, that's all any outdoor area needs.

New on Netflix (May 8-10, 2026)Lord of the Flies The cast of 'Lord of the Flies'

Courtesy of Netflix

Adolescence was one of the biggest surprises of 2025, a blistering, yet breathtaking dissertation on how society and humanity's most violent ills can plague even its youngest souls. Perhaps nowhere is this theme more on display than Lord of the Flies, the iconic novel that stranded a plane full of young boys on a deserted island, as they attempted to form a civilization before quickly falling into chaos.

So it's only appropriate that Jack Thorne, who co-created the nine-time Emmy-winning series, would lend his voice to creating the first-ever TV adaptation of William Golding's classic 1954 work. The four-episode miniseries came out to critical acclaim in the U.K. last fall, but now it's left its own island and made its way over to the U.S., where it dropped in its entirety on May 4. So take a seat and prepare to find out how far "boys will be boys" can actually extend as an aphorism!

Worst Ex Ever Season 2 Wade Wilson, also known as the 'Deadpool Killer'

Courtesy of Netflix

Falling in love can open you up to a world full of hurt — in more ways than one. Worst Ex Ever, a spinoff of Netflix's Worst Roommate Ever, returned for a second season on May 6, with more tragic and terrifying true crime tales of people who survived abusive, violent, and sometimes life-threatening relationships. Season 2 kicks off in a brutal fashion, with a 78-minute installment telling the story of a woman who dated Wade Wilson, who was convicted for murder in 2019 and earned the label of the "Deadpool Killer."

And Episode 2 shares a surprising connection with 90 Day Fiancé, covering the life of Geoffrey Paschal. The reality star appeared on Season 4 of Before the 90 Days, visiting Russia to visit his online girlfriend. It turned out, however, that he also had a fiancée back at home, not only hiding his relationship, but also his violent tendencies. That all got brought to the forefront, however, when he sent his stateside sweetheart to the hospital, eventually putting him behind bars for 18 years with charges of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault and interference with emergency calls. While the four-episode season is perfect for true crime enthusiasts, Worst Ex Ever is more for the audience that prefers their streaming content "Netflix and chilling."

If you or someone you know has been a victim of domestic violence, help is available 24 hours a day through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.

The Roast of Kevin Hart Courtesy of Netflix

Courtesy of Netflix

Two years ago, Netflix tried its own hand at an absolute comedy classic: The roast. Their first foray put Tom Brady in the hotseat, as a barrage of comedians and athletes alike dressed down the revered football player. The results were an absolute smash, earning two million viewers on the debut night alone and arguably putting Nikki Glaser in the spotlight, helping pave the path to her becoming a mainstay at the Golden Globes.

Kevin Hart was the one who emceed the proceedings last time. But now it's his turn to take a spin in the roastee's chair. The Roast of Kevin Hart, which will air live on May 10, will put the superstar comedian and actor front and center, facing a barrage of jokes from what will surely be a legendary lineup of funny people (though only Shane Gillis so far has officially been announced). While there's sure to be plenty of jokes made about Hart's height, the laughs should be in no short supply Sunday night.

Soap Star Eileen Davidson Reveals the No. 1 Thing She Learned During 'RHOBH': 'It's Shocking'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:58am

Nearly a decade out of filming TheReal Housewives of Beverly Hills,Eileen Davidson is reflecting on one major thing that stood out to her.

"The one thing I learned...[is] what people will do to be famous," she said while chatting on the latest podcast episode of "Soapy."

"I've been doing this since I was 20," she added of the fact that she's had her own fame due to her decades-long soap opera career. "It's shocking, it's really shocking to me...it really matters a lot because you could have so much money."

Eileen Davidson

Davidson, a level-headed and mostly drama free addition to the Bravo show, from 2014 to 2017, recalled that she was consistently bewildered by what her cast mates would do to make a name for themselves.

"I was always asking the producer, 'Would they really do something like that because they want to be relevant?'" she said, mentioning that stars of the show have "made amazing lives out of it, so how can you judge it?"

Related: Fan Are Begging This Soap Star to Return to 'Real Housewives': 'It Could Heal The World!'

While she referred to her time on the show alongside, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Lisa Vanderpump, Erika Jayne, and more, as "so terrifying all the time, but also fun and crazy," she confirmed that she wouldn't return as a full time cast member, though fans would love it.

"I learned a long time ago not to say never, but I don't see it," she said. "They asked me to come back for a few [episodes] last year, but the money and whole thing wasn't worth the emotional thing, for me, I'm not cut out for it necessarily."

And as for anyone new looking to venture into the world of Housewives, Davidson has simple advice.

"It's gotta be a personal thing because I wouldn't tell anybody not to do it," she said. "You have to figure it out as you go."

Following Davidson's departure from the show, she continued her soap opera roles on The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives and has also starred in a handful of TV holiday films.

Fans Left in Shock After Rediscovering Legendary 2012 Musical Collaboration: 'I Can't Believe I Live in This Timeline'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:57am

Rock music is no stranger to giving us mashups we wouldn't have expected.

Throughout all the years of pageantry and performances, many unlikely groups have formed over the years, whether that be the iconic ending performance for The Last Waltzfeaturing pretty much every folk rock icon of the era, and including maybe the only performance of a Beatle, a Rolling Stone, and Bob Dylan all performing together, or the more recent supergroup performances from Black Sabbath's "Back to the Beginning."

Fans, however, have recently rediscovered maybe one of the most bizarre collabs we have ever gotten -- Paul McCartney and Nirvana.

The band, dubbed "Sirvana," formed as part of the 12-12-12 benefit for Hurricane Sandy. The group performed a song they wrote together called "Cut Me Some Slack," which is a massive sonic shift for the former Beatle. Hearing him break out his huskier voice used on songs like "Helter Skelter" combined with the grunge sound of Nirvana is super exciting, and fans couldn't get enough.

That's why "Sirvana" had to make another appearance. They performed on SNL shortly after the above performance and knocked out of the park once again. Recently, that performance resurfaced, and fans were stunned.

@thebeatlesvault

can’t believe i live in a timeline where The Beatles & Nirvana were collabing like this 😭 #thebeatles #paulmccartney #nirvana #snl #beatlemania

♬ Cut Me Some Slack - Paul McCartney & Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic & Pat Smear

"Why is Nirvana there??" one fan asked, to which I had the same question.

"WOW!"

"Can’t believe I live in a timeline where The Beatles & Nirvana were collaborating like this," the caption read, which I think is a sentiment we can all agree on.

Music may never see as crazy a collab as this one again. The clashing of eras and styles of rock music between two of the most influential bands of all time is something to behold,. and we were absolutely blessed to have gotten to experience it then, and again now.

Paul McCartney returns to the SNL stage on May 16th, so be sure not to miss it!

‘NYPD Blue’ Icon Sharon Lawrence Is Aging in Reverse Over 25 Years After Leaving the Series

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:55am

Sharon Lawrence rose to superstardom on NYPD Blue, but we think she's more stunning than ever two decades after leaving the show.

The accomplished actress, 64, who is best known for her role as Sylvia Costas on the beloved ABC police series that ran from 1993 to 2005, has tackled a bevy of complicated roles over the years. While Lawrence finished her time on the cop show in 1999, she eventually appeared on shows like Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Also an accomplished theater actress, the Emmy nominee is still going strong and has recently become an absolute fan favorite on the Hallmark Channel. This week, the beauty hit the red carpet at the Women's Guild Cedars-Sinai 2026 Spring Luncheon at The Beverly Hills Hotel. In comparison to her days on the police drama, Lawrence looks like she's aging in reverse!

Unfortunately, no! In March 2026, it was announced that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver would be departing the show as series regulars after Season 22. The season finale saw a near-death experience for Owen make Teddy realize her rock-solid her feelings are for him. And so, as the couple declare their love for one another, they decide to leave Grey Sloan, heading to Paris for Teddy's new job.

Of course, unless a character dies on Grey's, the door is always open for them to come back (and even that hasn't stopped some cameos from happening over the years). However, at this moment, McKidd is happy to let Owen remain off-screen, instead focusing his efforts behind the camera. As he told Parade in an exclusive interview, "I know that Debbie very much wants me to [return], and Meg [Marinis] does too. I’m sorting through other offers and commitments. I will absolutely come back and direct Grey’s because I love it and it’s my family. It’s like going home and seeing your family."

Will Dr. Kwan be in Grey's Anatomy Season 23?

In the penultimate episode of Season 22, Dr. Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) was fired after it was discovered that he had given an experimental non-FDA treatment to a patient. However, the finale brought about an "all-hands-on-deck" situation, putting him back into action. Despite the pitch he made to Richard (James Pickens Jr.) about his sterling record up to that point, he did not renege on his decision. It remains to be seen if Kwan will show up in Season 23 in some capacity, or if he's left the show for good.

Was Javier Bardem on Grey's Anatomy?

No, Javier Bardem was not on Grey's Anatomy. However, many people think that because of his resemblance to actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who starred as heart transplant patient Denny Duquette in Season 2. The two not only look similar but are only three years apart in age (Bardem is younger). You may recognize Morgan for his more recent and higher-profile role as Negan Smith on The Walking Dead.

Denny remains a memorable character to Grey's fans because of his role in a powerful storyline with Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) during his time at Seattle Grace awaiting the transplant. While the character's fate is tragic, he continues to factor heavily in Stevens' story for several more seasons.

How did Grey's Anatomy Season 22 end?

As mentioned above the Grey's Season 22 finale saw Owen and Teddy make the decision to leave the hospital for Europe, after the former was put in crisis mode following a bridge collapsing. Also involved in the bridge collapse was Nick (Scott Speedman), who arrived at the hospital in critical condition. After undergoing a successful surgery, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) declared to him that they should get married and he happily agreed! But not every relationship had a happy ending. Most pertinently, the situation between Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Toni (Jen Landon) ended with the latter's declaration of love. But things immediately became complicated when she opened Amelia's door, only to discover she was sleeping with Cass (Sophia Bush)

"I've been the archivist for the band since the beginning," Schock tells Rolling Stone. "I have so much stuff that I've collected over the years, and I want to share it with everyone. This exhibition is about my life as an adult, and my family, the girls in the band — we all grew up together. When you look at the photos we took, you can remember everything that was happening at that moment in time and during that period of time.”

Whether in person or by magazine proxy, the exhibition is an all-access pass to all things totally ’80s and totally awesome, with Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Margot Olavarria, and Charlotte Caffey, all making cameos. Schock even donated the drum kit she rocked out on for her band’s induction into the Hall of Fame.

“I used that kit for [the Go-Go’s] Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction,” Shock tell RS. “DW built me that kit last year. A lot of times when you’re not playing in the city or whatever, or if you’re not on tour, they give you a rented kit. But I actually had my drums brought out for that show for when we played, and it made me feel really comfortable.”

Here’s hoping the walk down memory lane does the same for you.

Martha Stewart Shared Her Tips for Keeping Cut Flowers Fresh For Longer, Just in Time for Mother's Day Bouquets

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:46am

If anyone knows about floral etiquette, it's Martha Stewart. And fortunately, with Mother's Day around the corner, the home decor and flower savant just shared a blog post about how to help keep flowers fresh for as long as possible.

Her blog post also included a few tidbits on how to arrange flowers in small vases for a dinner party — and I'll definitely be keeping her wise words in mind this spring. Read on for Martha Stewart's latest floral tips!

How to Keep Flowers Fresh for Longer, According to Martha Stewart

"Whenever arranging cut flowers, it is important to cut any leaves that sit below the waterline," Stewart wrote in a recent blog post, titled "Preparing for a Spring Dinner at My Farm."

That's because leaves touching water can harbor bacteria and make your blooms decay quickly, per Locker's Flowers. So, Stewart explained, chopping off leaves that reach the water when you arrange your bouquets can help curb bacteria from growing and therefore help your flowers last longer.

She also noted that when arranging a bouquet, you should cut each flower stem — and that you should put it in the vase immediately after cutting.

"Give each flower stem a fresh cut to the right height for the vase," she wrote. "Putting them in water soon after cutting prevents stems from sealing, which can slow water uptake and reduce freshness."

View this post on Instagram How to Arrange Fresh Flowers on a Dinner Table, According to Martha Stewart

Stewart also shared a few easy tips for displaying floral arrangements for a dinner party.

"Centerpieces don’t have to be elaborate – a few flowers placed in glass containers is easy to do the day before the gathering," Stewart wrote. "I like to keep similar colors and varieties together, but they can also be mixed depending on preference."

And while some people may think of flowers on a dinner table as a centerpiece, Stewart prefers a differfent arrangement: "a vessel of blooms between each pair of place settings."

Not only does this mean the flowers are more evenly distributed across the table for all guests to enjoy, but it also means no one is stuck behind a 4-foot-tall centerpiece that blocks their view, as long as you "remember to keep them at a height where conversations are not blocked."

And finally, Stewart suggested doing all this the day before your dinner party. She explained: "Setting the table ahead of time prevents last-minute issues and allows more time for focusing on the food and the guests."

Celebrity Book Clubs Are Driving May’s Biggest Reading Trends

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:40am

The influence of celebrity book clubs is once again shaping what readers are picking up this month.

High-profile figures like Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon have revealed their latest selections for May, continuing a trend that has helped define modern reading culture. Their picks often translate into immediate bestseller status, sometimes within days. Recent roundups from outlets including Page Six highlighted how closely readers still follow these monthly announcements.

What makes these book clubs so effective is their reach. Each announcement is amplified across social media, television appearances and dedicated online communities. Readers are hearing and seeing these books discussed, recommended and shared across multiple platforms at once.

That level of visibility has turned celebrity selections into a powerful force within publishing. A single endorsement can introduce a title to millions of potential readers, many of whom may not actively follow traditional literary coverage. In that sense, these book clubs function as both tastemakers and entry points.

The May selections are already reflecting that impact. Coverage from outlets like Page Six’s latest roundup and ongoing updates from publishers and booksellers have highlighted the new picks, while early reader reactions are spreading quickly online. The result is a familiar pattern, where a handful of titles begin to dominate conversation.

May’s celebrity book club picks included a wide range of buzzy new titles already gaining traction with readers. Reese Witherspoon selected The Fine Art of Lying by Alexandra Andrews for Reese’s Book Club, while Jenna Bush Hager chose Gillian McAllister’s thriller Caller Unknown for her 'Read With Jenna' club. Oprah Winfrey spotlighted Douglas Stuart’s John of John, and Dua Lipa picked Claire Keegan’s So Late in the Day for her Service95 Book Club. Other notable selections included Lena Dunham’s Famesick for Natalie Portman’s book club and Almost Life by Kiran Millwood Hargrave for Emma RobertsBelletrist community.

There is also a broader appeal at play. Celebrity book clubs tend to focus on accessible, emotionally engaging stories, making them easy recommendations for a wide audience. That aligns closely with what many readers are looking for, particularly as summer approaches and reading becomes more of a leisure activity.

At the same time, the trend continues to evolve. Some book clubs are expanding their scope, highlighting debut authors or exploring genres that might not have received mainstream attention in the past. That shift is helping diversify what reaches bestseller lists.

For readers, the benefit is clear. Instead of sorting through countless options, they can rely on curated selections that have already generated conversation. Whether it is a novel that sparks discussion or one that simply offers an engaging escape, the appeal is immediate.

As May unfolds, the latest picks are likely to continue gaining traction. The combination of star power and genuine reader interest remains a potent mix, ensuring that celebrity book clubs will keep shaping reading habits for the foreseeable future.

King Charles Makes Noticeable Change Involving Meghan Markle

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:30am

King Charles III's private residence in Gloucestershire appears to have undergone a subtle refresh just in time for the spring season.

Royal photographer Chris Jackson offered a closer look inside the monarch’s beloved Highgrove estate during a private event, sharing a series of images on social media.

One photo captured a small wooden table with a blue and white plate and silver framed photographs of the King with his grandchild, Prince Louis, while the second photo featured him together with his sons, Prince Harry and Prince William.

“I recognized this,” Jackson captioned the Instagram Story, seemingly hinting that he personally took the photographs.

Following the subtle shake-up at the Highgrove estate, eagle-eyed royal observers immediately spotted small yet noticeable changes inside the residence.

In a report cited by Hello! magazine, the publication pointed out photographs previously seen inside the residence that appeared to be missing from the recent post.

While two photos featured the same spot with the same plate and the exact framed photo of the trio, there were missing photographs featured in the post.

View this post on Instagram

Among them was a portrait of the King and his wife Queen Camilla, as well as the family photo taken during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018.

The outlet also resurfaced the exact image featuring the display, which was previously filmed inside the Highgrove estate in 2024 by prominent British luxury lifestyle, fashion and beauty influencer Lydia Millen.

What Happened to King Charles III’s Relationship With Meghan Markle

Since Prince Harry and his wife made the bold decision to step back as senior royals in 2020, their relationship with other members of the family, including the 77-year-old monarch, has become complicated.

At that time, reports suggest that the then heir to the throne stopped taking his son’s calls during the couple’s transition to private life.

Things worsened after the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry expressed concerns over alleged racism and unconscious bias, which led to emotional distress and isolation.

However, recent reports suggest the King is “full of regret” over the long-running rift within the family.

"I think King Charles is full of regret over the whole situation; he definitely wouldn't have wanted it to go this way," Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told The Mirror, adding, “He has spoken about how much he enjoys being a grandparent.”

King Charles has two grandchildren from Prince Harry, Prince Archie, now 7 years old, and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, while his grandchildren from Prince William are Prince George, Princess Charlotte and their youngest, Prince Louis.

1999 Cult Classic Film Based on a Book Originally Bombed at the Box Office

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:26am

No one was talking about Fight Club when it first came out — but the dark psychological thriller would later become one of the biggest cult classic films of the 1990s.

Directed by David Fincher, the 1999 fan-favorite film was based on Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel of the same name, and famously stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. A commentary on toxic masculinity, consumerism and more, Fight Club is now frequently regarded as a cinematic masterpiece, though it certainly had a rocky start with moviegoers at first.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

When it first released, the film only grossed around $37 million domestically against a $63 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. Norton, who plays the Narrator in the movie, has previously said that the film wasn't marketed properly.

"I think there was a reluctance on the part of some of the people who were actually marketing it, to embrace the idea that it was funny, and honestly I think they felt indicted by it," Norton said in 2019, per WGTC, calling the movie a "tough one to distill."

"It was an interesting experience because we all loved it and we were very confident about it. We were a little stung," he added.

But Fight Club would eventually have its day in the sun, as it later sold $13 million in DVDs. Fans who appreciated the satirical film have since awarded the movie with glowing reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 81 percent score on the Tomatometer (critics' ratings) and a 96 percent score on the Popcornmeter (audience ratings).

Rolling Stoneranks it at No. 19 on the 100 Greatest Movies of the '90s list. It also placed No. 1 on Collider's list of the 10 Most Perfect Thriller Movie Endings.

It also has a 4.3-star average rating on Letterboxd, and ranks at No. 200 on the platform's official list of the Top 500 Films of All Time.

Looking Back on Her Twenties

On her popular podcast, Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, Lewinsky recently spoke about what led her to make "bad decisions" in her twenties. She shared that a desire to feel "special" sometimes led her to do things she regretted, and that sometimes got her in trouble.

"I think in some ways that's part of what got me in a lot of trouble in my early 20s of looking for and wanting to be special and feeling that feeling of specialness, of validation," she said during an episode that featured Laura Day, an American writer and author of several self-help books, focusing on intuition, Fox News shared. "And when it came, I fell into that, making bad decisions a lot of times, not just in D.C., but a lot of different ways."

Check out Lewinsky's discussion with Day below:

Lewinsky's Podcast Was a Jeopardy Answer

Viewers Finally Get a First Look at 'Batman 2' – And Early Reactions Couldn't Be More Surprising: 'My Mind is Blown'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:14am

After nearly half a decade of anxious waiting, DC is finally giving fans a first glimpse into their highly anticipated The Batman: Part II.

According to Variety, the two new images shared from the film specifically confirm two things: one, that the sequel is seemingly set in winter, with a snow-covered Gotham City prominently featured; and two, the Batmobile will officially make its return.

The new images mark the first major look at the highly anticipated sequel to see a release from the studio. As expected, the much-anticipated sequel has been the subject of intense scrutiny from casual viewers and dedicated superhero fans alike, with many audience members poring every detail related to the film that makes its way to the public spotlight.

As of yet, little is actually known about The Batman: Part II, with the movie still largely confined to its earliest stage as it begins production. The sequel is currently slated for release on October 1, 2027, with filming set to commence this summer in London.

As previously stated, anticipation for Batman 2 remains at an all-time high, with many eagerly awaiting the sequel's imminent arrival.

Given audiences' interest in the film, it should hardly come as a surprise that some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the first images shared of the film, as seen through the various comments on Variety's Facebook post about the story.

"This is just in, new The Batman 2 spoilers reveal Batman will still have a car and also there's snow," one account shared. "Mind=blown."

Others, meanwhile, criticized the significant amount of time between the filming of each project, with one user writing, "That only took 3,000 years."

In contrast, many other fans wrote about their personal excitement for the film, most especially the prospect of seeing a sequel set against the grim backdrop of winter.

"So this is going to be set in the snow!" one fan wrote. "That's honestly really dope since the first movie is set in Halloween/fall, the second movie set in winter, third movie should be set in spring, symbolizing a new beginning."
