First-Of-Its-Kind 1988 Film Celebrated for Its 'Cinematic Achievement' on 38th Anniversary

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 3:03pm

On June 22, 1988, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released. The film was a first-of-its-kind mashup of live-action footage and hand-drawn animation that interacted as though they lived in the same world, and fans are still in awe of its creativity and uniqueness today.

"As bad CGI and AI slop continue to infect the industry, this movie just continues to age like a fine wine," said one commenter on a reddit thread celebrating the beloved movie's 38th anniversary. Another agreed, writing, "I LOVE this movie and the special effects really hold up to this day."

Others celebrated the actors who brought both the human and animated characters to life, with one saying, "Bob Hoskins kills it as Eddie, Christopher Lloyd is horrifying as Judge Doom, and the animated cast is flawless. 10/10 no notes." Another added that Hoskins gave "one of the greatest performances of all time," while a third insisted he should have "been nominated for an Oscar" for it.

The noir-style film is set in 1947 Los Angeles, where humans and cartoon characters, known as “Toons,” coexist. The story follows tough private detective Eddie Valiant, played by Hoskins, as he investigates a scandal involving the Roger Rabbit, voiced by Charles Fleischer, and his glamorous wife Jessica Rabbit, voiced by Kathleen Turner. Lloyd expertly portrays the sinister Judge Doom, whose evil plans threaten the entire Toon community.

The comedy was directed by Robert Zemeckis and featured appearances from famous Disney and Warner Bros. characters that had never been brought together on screen before, like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Betty Boop, and many more.

Princess Diana Attended the Premiere

Upon its release, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was an immediate sensation, and was credited with helping spark Disney's animation renaissance. Princess Diana even attended the film's U.K. charity premiere, meeting Roger Rabbit and Hoskins at the event.

The PG-rated comedy grossed more than $351 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid film ever, and received seven Academy Award nominations. It won Oscars for Film Editing, Sound Effects Editing, and Visual Effects, while animation director Richard Williams received a Special Achievement Academy Award for his work.

Today, the movie had a whopping 96% critic-rated Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 85% fan-rated Popcornmeter score with more than a quarter-million ratings. Legendary film critic Roger Ebert described it as "not only great entertainment but a breakthrough in craftsmanship," likening it to great films like 2001, Close Encounters, and E.T.

See How Donald Trump’s Children Wished Him a Happy Father’s Day

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:57pm

Like other dads, PresidentDonald Trump is celebrating Father’s Day—and his kids all have something special to say. From loving messages to throwback photos, the commander in chief’s brood is sharing the love with their famous father.

What do Trump’s children have to say on Father’s Day?

Donald Trump Jr. Shared Childhood Photos

The President’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., just posted a carousel of family pics on Instagram. Along with some more recent snapshots, Don Jr. added in a few nostalgic throwbacks, including an adorable photo (sporting a bowl cut and wearing incredibly ‘80s plaid pants) with his mom, Ivana Trump, and a few shots of himself as a baby with a very young Donald Trump.

Trump Jr. didn’t just wish Donald Dr. well; he also gave a shout-out to “all those other great dads out there.”

Eldest daughterIvanka Trump also shared a sweet series of group shots on Instagram. But instead of older images, she chose to show off newer portraits of the President, her husband (Jared Kushner), and her three children: Arabella Rose Kushner (born 2011), Joseph Frederick Kushner (born 2013), and Theodore James Kushner (born 2016).

Trump’s younger daughter, Tiffany (with Marla Maples), posted a carousel of family photos on Instagram featuring her dad, her husband (Michael Boulos), and her son, Alexander, along with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day to my dad and my husband. Thank you both for the love, kindness, and strength you bring to my life every day.”

As of Sunday, June 21, at midday, Eric Trump had not yet wished the President a happy Father’s Day on social media. But of course, that doesn’t mean he won’t. The dad of two (he shares son Luke and daughter Carolina with wife LaraTrump) is most likely busy enjoying the day with his family.

Unlike his older brothers and sisters, Barron Trump (the President’s son with current wife Melania Trump) does not post photos publicly on social media.

‘Modern Family’ Actor Opens up About How Fatherhood ‘Broke’ His Heart Open

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:54pm

Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson has opened up about the many ways fatherhood has changed his life.

The 50-year-old actor spoke to People exclusively at the 79th Annual Tony Awards on June 7 about his sons, Beckett Mercer, in July 2020, and Sullivan "Sully" Louis, in November 2022.

“Fatherhood broke my heart open in ways that I didn't expect,” the actor told the outlet. “And I just love my kids so much. I love being able to take them to the theater, share things with them that I love.”

Jesse is currently appearing in Jesus Christ Superstar in London as King Herod. He posted a photo on opening night of him with his two sons on the stage of the London Palladium.

Ferguson's family have previously stepped out to support their dad on stage. They were there to cheer him on when he appeared in the 2025 Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night, in which he starred as Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

The actor has been married to lawyer and producer Justin Mikita for 13 years. The pair met at the gym when Mikita was still a law student and Modern Family had just started.

When his son Beckett was born in 2020, he told People that he had always wanted to be a dad. "My husband's 10 years younger than me, so I sort of was waiting for his timeline to catch up with mine," Ferguson explained. "I think I would have done this 10 years ago, but whatever, it's fine. Better late than never."

He admitted that his beloved Modern Family character, Mitchell Pritchett, helped ease him into becoming a dad in real life. Ferguson has thanked his on-set relationship with Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who played his on-screen daughter Lily, for teaching him to understand children.

"But there's a lot of downtime on set. For me, it was about having conversations and communicating with kids in a way that wasn't patronising, but also getting to know kids as people," he told Parents.

"It taught me a lot about meeting her where she was at...communicating with them through questions and just being open to their questions," he added

The 4 Birth Months Most Likely to Be the Favorite Aunt, Per Experts

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:38pm

Aunts play such a special role within a family. They can offer guidance without judgment, provide support during life’s biggest moments, and create memories that nieces and nephews carry with them for years to come. Whether serving as a trusted confidante, a source of encouragement, a family storyteller, or simply the relative who always knows how to make someone smile, great aunts have a beautiful ability to make younger family members feel loved, valued, and understood.

While wonderful aunts can be born in any month, astrology shows that certain birth months have qualities written in the stars for the role. From nurturing support and unwavering encouragement to wisdom, humor, and a talent for helping others grow, these four birth months make especially adored aunts.

Which Birth Months Make the Favorite Aunts?

Check for your birth month.

January - The Cool Aunt

People born in January make wonderful aunts because they provide dependable support and serve as dependable mentors and guides. Capricorns are so practical and responsible by nature; they lead by example and generously share the wisdom they have gained so others don’t have to make the same mistakes they did. (But if you do happen to make a mistake, you won’t be judged here!) Aquarians are always thinking ahead and enjoy encouraging younger generations to think for themselves, embrace their individuality, and see the world from a new perspective. Both signs know how to offer advice without being overly controlling and support without being overly critical. January-born individuals are the “cool aunts”, providing the perfect mix of reliable stability and unconventional wisdom by inspiring independence in their nieces and nephews.

June - The Playful Companion

People born in June make wonderful aunts because they are young at heart, yet emotionally dependable companions. Geminis have a youthful spirit; they are playful, spontaneous, fun-loving, and curious, which makes them easily relatable to younger family members. They also love to ask questions and share knowledge, making them great at encouraging a child's interests, hobbies, and education. If someone is shy, a Gemini will easily get them out of their shell and chatting! Cancers have such a nurturing nature that their home becomes a secondary safe haven where their nieces and nephews feel comfortable and loved. Whether providing freshly baked cookies, warm hugs, or simply a nonjudgmental space to be heard, Cancers know how to offer what others need to feel cared for and secure. June-born individuals have a special way of making their nieces and nephews feel both celebrated for who they are and supported as they grow.

CUTE!: These 4 Birth Months Have a Special Connection With Kids

August - The Family Cheerleader

People born in August make wonderful aunts because they have a gift for helping their nieces and nephews recognize their own potential. Leos are generous and encouraging, and they love celebrating the accomplishments of the people they love. Whether in the audience or on the sidelines, they show up loudly and enthusiastically as their loved ones’ biggest front-row supporters. Virgos show their encouragement in more hands-on, behind-the-scenes ways via practical guidance, thoughtful advice, and a sincere desire to help others reach their potential. They are the ones helping with homework, teaching valuable life skills, or offering encouragement when challenges arise. August-born individuals want their nieces and nephews to feel capable, supported, and  believed in.

November - The Confidante

People born in November make wonderful aunts because they foster relationships in which nieces and nephews feel comfortable being their true selves. Scorpios are fiercely loyal and perceptive, sensing what others are feeling before a word is even spoken. Because of this, they have a gift for making their loved ones feel seen, understood, and accepted in whatever state they might be in. Sagittarians are warm, funny, and adventurous, making them instantly comfortable and easy to be around. Being free-spirited and confident in their own skin encourages their nieces and nephews to do the same. Both signs encourage a sense of freedom through asking questions, sharing secrets, and offering sound advice. November-born individuals make their nieces and nephews feel understood, supported, and free to be exactly who they are.

Serena Williams to Make Singles Comeback at Wimbledon

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:23pm

Serena Williams is making a singles comeback!

On Sunday, June 21, Wimbledon announced the tennis legend will compete in singles in the 2026 tournament after receiving a wild card entry.

Williams last played singles professionally at the 2022 U.S. Open, where she won two rounds before losing in the third round to Ajla Tomljanovic.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion began her comeback earlier this month with doubles appearances on grass, earning a wild card entry into the Wimbledon doubles draw alongside her sisterVenus. Now, she's shifting back to the version of the game where she has historically been most dominant: singles.

Speculation Williams was returning to professional tennis began in December 2025 when fans noticed the tennis legend had re-entered the list of players registered for the drug testing pool by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

However, Williams denied the rumors shortly after they began, writing on X, “Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

The very next day, Serena applied for official retirement with the International Tennis Integrity Agency, meaning that she would no longer have to comply with random drug testing.

Shortly before her first retirement, Williams wrote an essay in Vogue about her decision to step away from tennis ahead of the 2022 U.S. Open. She purposely avoided using the word “retirement,” instead calling it an “evolution” away from the sport.

“I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” Williams wrote at the time. “A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family.”

William married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017, and the two share daughters Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2.

Wimbledon 2026 will run from June 29 to July 12, with the qualifying rounds taking place between June 22 - 25.

1964 Hit That Helped Invent Hard Rock Became a Timeless Power Anthem

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:22pm

The Kinks are often called the underdogs of the British Invasion. Sharing airwaves and aesthetics with giants like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in the 1960s, it’s easy to see why. But one listen to “All Day and All of the Night,” and it’s even easier to see how the English rockers helped invent hard rock.

Released in September 1964 as a standalone single and later featured on their second studio album, Kinks-Size (1965), the track is widely regarded by critics and musicians as a precursor to punk, metal, and hard rock. And now, more than five decades later, it remains a timeless power anthem and one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time.

View this post on Instagram

“The one that started it was ‘All Day and All of the Night,’” Ray Davies, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary songwriter for The Kinks, explained to Classic Rock. “The sounds on that one, if they were made today, would sound like Green Day or a metal band.”

The Kinks’ 1964 follow-up to their smash hit “You Really Go Me” broke the mold of typical pop through its use of driving chords, aggressive riffs, and visceral rebellious energy. Complete with direct, mildly sexual lyrics delivered with Davies’ gritty vocals, the song brought a new level of intensity to rock music that can still be heard in the generations of punk, hard rock, and metal bands that followed.

That signature sound actually has an interesting backstory. According to Far Out magazine, in the early ’60s, Davies' personal life had reached a tipping point, so he took out his rage on an amplifier with a razor blade.

“I had a little green amplifier, an Elpico, that was sounding crap,” he said. “I thought, I’ll teach it -- and slashed the speaker cone. It changed the sound of my guitar. Then, when I wired that amp up to another Vox AC30, it made it a lot, lot louder.”

The raw proto-punk roar he created with that damaged speaker became the track’s signature sound, and went on to inspire band after band, from Black Sabbath to Metallica, The Who to The Clash. In 2009, during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Metallica’sJames Hetfield even credited The Kinks as the band that started it all.

“We got completely schooled on early riff-rock by this man and his band – The Kinks,” Hetfield said of Davies.

According to Classic Rock, Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Reed, and more have publicly cited the song as the “jump-off point for punk and hard rock."

Peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, the track went all the way to No. 2 in the U.K. Still, the track’s legacy far outweighs its chart performance. Written in just a few days, the song was supposed to be another smash hit — a demand from producers to follow up the wildly successful "You Really Got Me."

“It’s more demanding. Maybe that was because we’d just come off a success with a number one single. So it was a bit cocky,” Davies said.

But it ended up being so much more. “All Day And All Of The Night" was a ferocious blast of rock’n’roll. It gave The Kinks their second major hit and cemented them in the U.S. as one of the key bands of the British Invasion,” Classic Rock wrote.

Heavily covered, most famously by the English rock band The Stranglers (who reached No. 7 in the U.K. with their 1987 cover), the track has even made its way into the hip-hop realm with 2 Live Crew sampling it for their 1988Miami bass hit, “One and One.”

For a band once overshadowed by TheFab Four and Mick Jagger, The Kinks sure left a massive footprint. And decades later, “All Day and All of the Night” still sounds loud, raw, and built for distortion.

We could listen to it all day, and, well, you know.

2010s Rock Band Announces New Music Amid Major World Tour

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 2:17pm

Beloved 2010s rockers I Prevail are teasing new music, revealing plans for a fresh single.

Speaking with Wall of Sound amid the Australian leg of the band's world tour, vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe announced that the Grammy Award-nominated musicians were gearing up to drop their latest single, "Paradise".

"It's got some singing. It's got some screaming. It's got some special... I don't wanna give too much away, but there's something cool we did with it, and I can't wait for people to hear it," he explained. "But, yeah, it's coming up quick, and I'm excited for people to see what we're cooking,"

When asked the question, Vanlerberghe said that the band decided not to include "Paradise" on their most recent album, 2025's Violent Nature, simply because it wasn't completed at the time of the release.

"Honestly, we wrote it after the record was done," he noted. "What's been great about this last few years is, in the past we would tour, tour, tour, and then go, 'Okay, we're gonna take some time off and work on a record,"

For the last few years, the band's bassist,  JonEberhard, has also served as a producer, meaning it was easier to work on new music on-the-go.

"So, as soon as 'Violent Nature' was out, we were already just keeping the muscle of creativity fresh and continuing writing," Vanlerberghe continued. "And we got stuff that I don't know if it'll ever come out, but it's just fun to create and write and keep that muscle flexing."

In May 2025, I Prevail parted ways with vocalist Brian Burkheiser, who handled all of the clean vocals for the band since their inception in 2013. Since Burkheiser's departure following a string of health struggles, Vanlerberghe has lead all of the singing.

I Prevail's breakout came in 2014 after they released a viral hardcore cover version of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space." On Oct. 21, 2026, the group unveiled their debut album, Lifelines, via Fearless Records.

After Australia, the band has tour stops across several cities in Europe before hitting the U.S. through the end of the year.

4 Oncologists Reveal the 1 Product They’d Remove From Their Homes Immediately

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:25pm

Your home is your sanctuary, but it can also harbor seemingly innocent products that could be silently raising your risk of cancer. There’s one in particular that’s gotten a lot of attention lately, and is even banned in some states.

As with many things, the link between this product and cancer is a little muddled. There are no studies that directly say that using this common household product will give you cancer. But there are plenty that suggest that a chemical used in them raises the risk of cancer, which is enough to give oncologists pause.

Related: ‘I Took a Shot of Olive Oil Every Day for 2 Weeks—Here’s My Verdict on if It’s Worth It’

You’re not destined to get cancer if you have this product in your home, according to Dr. Mark Ashamalla, MD, chief of radiation oncology, Episcopal Health Services Cancer Center. But if you’re conscious about trying to lower your odds of developing cancer, steering clear of this is one more thing you can do to keep yourself safe.

“In oncology, we aim for practical risk reduction, not fear,” explains Dr. Avishek Kumar, MD, an oncologist at Regional Cancer Care Associates in Edison, NJ. That’s why he suggests “small, smart swaps over time, no anxiety required.”

Want to do what you can to drive down your risk of cancer? Consider phasing this household product out.

The 1 Product Oncologists Would Remove From Their Homes

Old, worn-down nonstick pans are concerning, according to oncologists. “The primary issues with nonstick pans and potential carcinogens stem from their chemical coatings, particularly when they are overheated or damaged,” says Dr. Jamie Koprivnikar, MD, a hematology oncologist at John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Modern nonstick pans are free of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is a chemical that was linked to kidney and testicular cancer, Dr. Koprivnikar points out. “It’s worth noting that PFOA has been largely phased out of cookware manufacturing since 2015,” Ashamalla says. “However, some replacement chemicals—such as GenX—are suspected to have similar toxicity profiles, so a ‘PFOA-free’ label does not necessarily mean the product is entirely free of PFAS-related concerns.”

Related: Oncology Experts Wish People Would Stop Doing This One Thing Every Morning

Nonstick pans also typically have a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon) coating that can be risky when heated above 500 degrees, Dr. Koprivnikar says.

“It can break down and release toxic fumes that cause a flu-like illness known as polymer fume fever,” Dr. Koprivnikar explains. “Furthermore, scratches from utensils or abrasive cleaning can cause the coating to chip and degrade, which may lead to the leaching of chemicals and the release of thousands to millions of microplastic and nanoplastic particles into your food during cooking.”

Here's where things get slightly confusing: PTFE is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as a group 3 carcinogen, meaning it's not classified as causing cancer in humans. But the precursor molecule that's used to make PTFE, tetrafluoroethylene, isconsidered a carcinogen. (However, Ashamalla points out that the biggest concerns come from people with high exposures to these chemicals.)

“Where I do pay attention is old or damaged pans,” Dr. Kumar says. “Once a coating is scratched, peeling or repeatedly overheated, you're getting exposures the manufacturer never intended.”

Related: Oncologists Are Begging People To Throw Out This Common Laundry Product

What To Use Instead

It’s possible to get nonstick pans that don’t contain PFAS, according to Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD, oncologist, co-director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and author ofEat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life. (Just be sure to read the label carefully.)

“You can also use carbon steel cookware, titanium or ceramic cookware, all of which are PFAS-free and easy to clean up,” Dr. Emanuel says.

Stainless steel is a “versatile and non-reactive workhorse” that can be helpful, too, Dr. Koprivnikar says. “Enameled cast iron provides the superior heat retention of traditional cast iron but with an easy-to-clean, non-reactive surface that doesn't require seasoning, while ceramic cookware offers a modern, PFAS-free non-stick coating that is effective but less durable over time,” he says.

And, for baking and food storage, Dr. Koprivnikar suggests glass containers.

How To Use Nonstick Pans as Safely as Possible

Again, the best thing you can do for your cancer risk and chemical exposure is to avoid nonstick pans entirely, especially if they're old or scratched. But doctors say you can still use nonstick pans if you’re careful.

“Replace pans when the coating is extensively scratched, peeling, flaking or otherwise deteriorated—research has shown that older, degraded cookware releases significantly more microplastic particles into food than new cookware,” says Dr. Ashamalla. He also suggests using wood, silicone or other nonabrasive utensils over metal utensils.

But Dr. Kumar suggests just doing your best. “The way I explain cancer risk to patients is that it's cumulative. It's almost never one thing,” he says. “It's genetics plus smoking plus weight plus alcohol plus decades of small environmental exposures stacking up. So when there's a cheap, easy way to remove one of those exposures, I take it. A frying pan is about as cheap and easy as it gets.”

Scottie Scheffler Shares Personal Update About Wife Amid U.S. Open

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:23pm

Scottie Scheffler could make history at the U.S. Open on Sunday, June 21. A first-place finish would not only earn him his first U.S. Open Championship Trophy, but the career Grand Slam.

Throughout the course of his career, Scheffler has had the support of his wife, Meredith, who is often on the sidelines cheering him on. This year, Scheffler's two sons, Bennett, 2, and Remy, 3 months, will also be on-hand to celebrate—if Scheffler can finish on top of the leaderboard.

"It takes a lot of work for me to be able to do this for a living, and it’s a lot of sacrifice for [Meredith]. To be able to celebrate those moments for both of us is really cool," he recently told People magazine.

Following the current season, Scheffler has some personal plans that he's looking forward to.

"Immediately when the season ends, the first thing I want to do is just spend the time at home," he told the outlet. "Bennett is hilarious. He’s just your typical little boy—he loves cars and trucks and dirt. He loves golf, he loves sports, and I look forward to just being able to be there and experience those things with him."

Heading into Sunday's final round, Scheffler was one under, tied for second place with three other pros—all of whom trailed Wyndham Clark, who has dominated the tournament thus far.

For Scheffler, the chance to share a career-defining moment with his family makes the U.S. Open even more meaningful. The golfer has often spoken about keeping perspective beyond the course, and his growing family has become a major part of his life away from competition. As he chases another milestone in his career, Meredith and his sons will be there for support.

The band's 1980 single "You Shook Me All Night Long" is already on its way to 2 billion, with over 1.7 billion on the platform currently.

"T.N.T." was initially released in Australia in December 1975 as the title track on AC/DC's second studio album, and it came out as a single exclusively in Australia in March 1976. It was later introduced to U.S. fans when it was included on the band's High Voltage album, which was released internationally in September 1976.

1970 Rock Classic, Reimagined 50 Years Later, Became a Father’s Day Anthem

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:11pm

Few songs have captured the bond between a parent and child quite like "Father and Son."

When Cat Stevens released the song in 1970, the poignant ballad quickly became one of the standout tracks from Tea for the Tillerman. Built around a conversation between a father urging patience and a son eager to find his own way, the song has resonated with generations of listeners and gradually became one of the most enduring Father's Day anthems in popular music.

But more than 50 years later, Stevens found a remarkable new way to tell the story.

In 2020, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Tea for the Tillerman, Yusuf / Cat Stevens reimagined “Father and Son” by creating a duet with his younger self. Using his original 1970 vocal for the son and recording a new vocal as the father, Stevens transformed the song into a conversation across generations, one that reflected not only the lyrics, but his own life journey in the decades since.

"I didn't really intend to do another version, to be honest," Stevens told Song Exploder. "But it was my son's idea when we were talking about what to do for the 50th, you know, anniversary of the release of Tea for the Tillerman, so what are we gonna do? And he suggested this idea, 'Why don't we record it again, because you're singing it kind of differently today,' I said, 'Well, that's a good idea.'"

The idea was especially fitting because "Father and Son" had always been about perspective. Originally written for an unproduced musical called Revolussia, the song outgrew its original storyline and instead became a universal reflection on the challenges of growing up, letting go and learning to understand one another.

"'Father And Son' is probably the most prominent and profound song on the album," Stevens told GQ. "Essentially, it was about Nicholas and Alexander, the last tsars of Russia, and against that there’s another story about this family in the farmland, in the country. And the father, of course, basically wants to keep things as they are, while the son is really inspired by the revolution. He wants to join. And so that’s the inspiration for that song. That’s why I’m able to represent both sides – though I feel that my preference, my emphasis, was on the son’s side, and the father’s arguments were not quite as strong as the son’s, which is interesting. Change is basically the theme of the song."

It would go on to become one of the defining songs of Stevens' career.

The anniversary version added another emotional layer. Accompanied by an animated video, the updated recording allowed listeners to hear the wisdom of age alongside the hope and determination of youth, creating a dialogue between the same artist separated by half a century.

Over the years, "Father and Son" has been covered by numerous artists and featured in films, television shows and countless Father's Day playlists. Yet its enduring appeal has always come from its honesty. Every generation seems to find something different in the conversation between father and son.

"Even though you would expect that I would start to like take the father's role, I certainly don't," Stevens said. "I still wait for the son's part and then I wanna sing it much more than I wanna sing the father's part. The father's part is great, you know, you go through, you swim through it, and it's fine. You know he's kind of casual, he's a bit concerned, you know, but he's settled down, you know, sit down, just take it easy. Yeah. But, yeah, I wanna get back to the son. There's a way I know, I've gotta go. So I always choose the son's dynamic. Because there are still things to march about, there's still things to shout about, still things to sing about. I think that's the world that we live in, and it's never gonna change."

More than 50 years after it was first released, "Father and Son" continues to connect with listeners just as powerfully as it did in 1970. And thanks to its unique reimagining, one of Cat Stevens' greatest songs found new life by allowing the past and present to sing together for the very first time.

2012 Rihanna-Led Action Film Soars to the Charts Despite Box Office Flop

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:09pm

Movie adaptations of books, video games and even board games remain ever popular in Hollywood these days.

Nearly 15 years ago, a big-budget action film hit theaters that was based on the classic guessing game Battleship, which we all probably played at one point in our childhoods.

Made for over $200 million, the movie of the same name was loaded with stars and thrilling sequences — but that doesn't always guarantee critical and commercial success.

Battleship (2012) made $303 worldwide but lost both Universal and Hasbro roughly $150 million, ScreenRant reports. That being said, we're in the streaming era, and the film is seeing signs of life these days on Prime Video.

After a full month on the platform, the Liam Neeson and Rihanna starrer currently sits at No. 8 on the Top 10 Movies in the U.S. list. Directed by Peter Berg, the action flick also stars big names such as Jesse Plemons and Brooklyn Decker. Here's the synopsis offered by Rotten Tomatoes, where Battleship holds a 54% average audience rating:

"Lt. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is a weapons officer aboard the destroyer USS John Paul Jones, while his older brother, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård), is the commanding officer of the USS Sampson. Unknown to Alex, Stone or the rest of the U.S. Navy, alien invaders have arrived on Earth with plans to steal Earth's resources. When a confrontation with the invaders knocks out the Navy's radar capability, American and Japanese forces must work together to find a way to save the planet."

Rihanna, 38, made headlines last month when she paid the ultimate tribute to her three young children by taking one of their artful designs and turning it into permanent body art—specifically a new tattoo on the back of her leg.

In an Instagram post, the popular New York City tattoo studio Bang Bang Tattoo shared several images and video clips from Rihanna’s recent tattoo session. The caption on the post reads: “Family tats @badgalriri Designed by her babies ♥️”

World Market's 4-Piece Stackable Outdoor Chair Set Is Durable, Lightweight and Comes in 7 Vibrant Colors

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:05pm

Every summer you convince yourself you're going to become the kind of person who hosts outdoor dinner parties. You know the type: string lights twinkling overhead, a pitcher of something refreshing on the table and friends lingering long after sunset. Then reality hits. You step outside, take one look at your patio and realize your entertaining space is roughly the size of a large bath towel.

The truth is, not every backyard, deck, or patio is sprawling enough to accommodate a full outdoor dining set worthy of a resort brochure. Plenty of people are working with modest spaces where every square foot counts. That doesn't mean you have to give up on outdoor entertaining altogether. It just means you have to get a little smarter about the furniture you choose.

5 Best Produce Items To Buy at Trader Joe's (and 4 To Skip)

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:03pm

We all know the routine when you walk into Trader Joe’s. You grab a cart, breeze past the flowers and immediately head for the frozen aisle, the cheese case or whatever crazy new seasonal snacks just dropped.

The produce section right at the front of the store can be a major gamble. On one hand, you’ve got those affordable 23-cent bananas and cool seasonal fruits you can't find anywhere else. On the other hand, anyone who shops at Trader Joe's regularly knows the heartbreak of buying a bag of rock-hard avocados only to have them go straight from stone-solid to completely rotten inside.

Because Trader Joe’s pre-packages so much of its fresh food in plastic wrap and bags, you really have to be careful. Plus, because so much of it is wrapped in plastic, you can't always easily check for bad spots, and a single moldy berry can ruin an entire carton before you even open it.

To help you protect your grocery budget and skip the midweek disappointment, we did the homework for you. Here are the Trader Joe's produce items that are actually worth tossing into your cart, and which items you should definitely leave on the shelves.

Does Trader Joe's Have Organic Produce?

Yes, Trader Joe's has a massive organic selection that covers nearly all its produce staples, including bananas, apples, berries and bagged salads. The best part? The pricing.

While most traditional supermarkets hit you with a massive price penalty for buying organic food, the gap at Trader Joe's is usually only about 50 cents to a dollar, making it incredibly cheap to upgrade your cart on a budget if eating organic is important to you.

5 Best Items To Buy From Trader Joe's Produce Section

If you want the most bang for your buck, these high-quality TJ's staples are the absolute best deals in the store's produce section.

1. Whole mushrooms

Fred Hernandez

If you want the most for your money, head straight for the mushroom section. Unlike its delicate leafy greens, Trader Joe's whole mushrooms are an incredible, low-risk buy that easily hold up in your fridge.

Just be sure to always buy them whole instead of the pre-sliced packs. Shoppers constantly warn that the pre-sliced ones absorb moisture from the packaging instantly, leaving you with a slimy brown mess faster than you'd like.

2. Bananas

Fred Hernandez

You simply cannot beat Trader Joe's legendary bananas. While most grocery chains charge by the pound, the store famously prices them individually at just 23 cents each (or 29 cents each for organic). Because they sell so fast, the display is constantly being restocked with fresh, unbruised bunches. It's easily the cheapest, most reliable deal in the entire produce section.

3. Potted fresh herbs

Fred Hernandez

Skip the plastic clamshell containers of pre-cut herbs, which are usually overpriced and turn slimy within a couple of days. Instead, grab the live, potted herbs like basil and mint sitting on the display shelves.

They only cost about $2.50 to $4 a pot, which is cheaper than buying a tiny bundle of cut stems at a regular supermarket. Just make sure to move the plant into a slightly bigger pot with fresh soil when you get home so the roots have room to breathe and keep growing.

4. Rainbow carrots

Fred Hernandez

If you want a high-end restaurant side dish on a total budget, these rainbow carrots from Trader Joe's are a total home run. They only require a quick chop before you toss them straight onto a roasting pan with a splash of olive oil.

Just keep an eye on them in the oven because the purple carrots may bleed dark juice while cooking, which can turn your yellow carrots a weird shade of gray. For just a few bucks, these carrots are easily one of the most beautiful, vibrant veggie upgrades in the store.

5. Seasonal fruit

Fred Hernandez

Trader Joe's is easily the best place to find unique, seasonal fruits like Cotton Candy Grapes and Pluots. Because these fun hybrids are so popular, they fly off the shelves almost the exact same day the delivery trucks arrive.

This fast turnover means you never have to worry about getting a stale or mushy batch. Just grab them the second you see them, because they usually disappear for the year after a few short weeks.

4 Trader Joe's Produce Items You Can Skip

On the flip side, you may want to walk right past these frustrating, fast-rotting items on your next grocery run.

1. Bagged salad kits

Fred Hernandez

If you want a quick dinner shortcut that won't spoil overnight, walk past the delicate lettuces and grab one of the store's sturdier cabbage- or kale-based slaws instead—those actually hold up in the fridge for a few days.

Trader Joe's has some of the most creative salad kit flavors around, but you have to check the bag closely before tossing them in your cart. A lot of the softer, leafy kits have a bad habit of turning into a wet, soggy mess way before the "Best By" date on the package.

Related: Trader Joe's Lets You Try Almost Anything in the Store—but There's a Catch

2. Bagged avocados

Fred Hernandez

The standard four-packs of avocados may seem like a great deal, but they're a notorious wildcard. They're usually rock-hard in the store, and waiting for avocados to ripen evenly at home is a complete guessing game. It's incredibly frustrating when they skip the perfect creamy stage entirely and go straight to rotten black spots on the inside.

Unless you need a massive batch of guacamole that exact weekend, stick to buying individual loose avocados elsewhere—or grab a mesh bag of the Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Avocados instead, which tend to ripen much faster and more consistently.

3. Fresh berries

Fred Hernandez

Unless you plan on baking a pie the afternoon you buy them, skip the fresh berry display. The real issue is how tightly they pack the clamshells into the crates on the trucks, which bruises the fruit before it even hits the floor.

You’ll think you found a perfect carton, but the moment you get it into the light, you may spot fuzzy white mold growing on the squished berries hidden in the middle. You're better off buying berries frozen here—the Trader Joe's frozen fruit section is actually incredible and way cheaper.

4. Persian cucumbers

Fred Hernandez

Because these cucumbers have super-thin skins, they're incredibly sensitive to trapped moisture. The tight plastic packaging at Trader Joe's traps humidity, which means the bottom row often turns completely mushy and slimy within a day or two of bringing them home. Save your money and buy your cucumbers loose at a regular grocery store.

Final Takeaways

The Trader Joe’s produce section can be one of the best bargains in the store, but it pays to shop strategically. Stick with reliable staples like bananas, whole mushrooms, potted herbs and seasonal fruit, which offer great value and tend to stay fresh longer.

At the same time, be cautious with highly perishable items like bagged salads, berries and avocados, where the store’s packaging can make it harder to spot quality issues. A little extra scrutiny can help you score the best deals while avoiding produce that may end up in the trash before you get a chance to enjoy it.

My 60-Year-Old Mom Looks Nothing Like Her Age—These 4 Under-$25 Skincare Staples Are Her Secret

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 1:00pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

My mom is constantly getting asked what she uses on her skin—and I mean constantly. Strangers, friends and even checkout clerks have all stopped her to ask what her secret is. The funny part is, there’s no 12-step routine, no complicated layering strategy and definitely no drawer full of luxury skincare she’s quietly hoarding. Instead, she’s built a simple rotation of staples that she’s stayed loyal to for years—and they all are affordable at $25 or less.

What I’ve noticed most is how consistent she is. She doesn’t chase every new product drop or viral ingredient trend—she sticks to what keeps her skin feeling hydrated and calm. She's all about easy hydration, reliable multitaskers and the kind of products you can grab without overthinking it at the drugstore. It’s less about "anti-aging" everything and more about keeping her skin healthy and supported in a way that actually lasts.

From everyday moisture boosts to low-key glow enhancers, these are the four affordable beauty staples she swears by—and the ones she refuses to stop repurchasing. Read on to learn exactly what’s behind her skincare routine and the simple staples she credits for it all.

4 Mom-Approved Skincare Staples Under $25

Here are the beauty products my mom swears by.

1. The INKEY List Exosome Hydro-Glow Complex Serum, $22

Alyssa Rotunno

Shop It at Sephora

The INKEY List Exosome Hydro-Glow Complex Serum is one of those products my mom started using as soon as it launched and never really looked back. She’s been loyal to The INKEY List for years because she loves that it feels "science-y" without being complicated, and this serum fits right into that sweet spot.

What she likes most is the instant glow—it goes on lightweight, sinks in fast and somehow makes her skin look more awake even on no-sleep days (which are frequent for her as a new grandma). She’ll tell you she notices the biggest difference in how smooth and refreshed her skin looks under makeup, especially when she’s sticking to a consistent morning-and-night routine.

2. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion, $15

Alyssa Rotunno

Shop It at Ulta

This tried-and-true moisturizer is basically my mom's non-negotiable, ride-or-die staple she’s been using for what feels like forever at this point. It’s the product she keeps in constant rotation because it’s simple, reliable and never irritating—just steady hydration that always does its job.

She loves that it has that no-fuss texture that melts right into the skin without feeling greasy, and the ceramides and hyaluronic acid give her that "comfortable skin" feeling she swears by. It’s not flashy at all, but that’s exactly why she’s been repurchasing it for years.

3. Naturium Multi-Peptide Advanced Serum, $25

Alyssa Rotunno

Shop It at Walmart

Peptides are my mom's ultimate secret—and this serum was added into her routine a couple of years ago when she wanted something that felt a little more targeted but still easy to use. This multi-use serum stuck because it layers well with everything else she uses without pilling or feeling heavy.

What she loves most is how it makes her skin feel a bit firmer and more supported over time, especially when she’s consistent with it. It’s one of those "you don’t notice it working day one, but you definitely notice it later" kind of products she’s stayed committed to.

4. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair, $25

Alyssa Rotunno

Shop It at Ulta

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair is her longtime retinol go-to—the product she reached for when she first started getting more intentional about fine lines and texture. She’s used it on and off for years, always coming back to it because it feels effective but still accessible and easy to fit into a routine.

What she appreciates most is how it smooths things out over time, especially around areas like her forehead and smile lines, without requiring a complicated skincare setup. It’s no drama, just results.

Why These 4 Products Have Been Game-Changers

What makes these four products such a game-changer for my mom is how seamlessly they all work together without ever feeling like too much. Nothing in her routine is competing for attention—it’s just steady, supportive skincare that builds on itself. The CeraVe moisturizer keeps everything hydrated and calm, while the INKEY List serum layers in that instant glow that makes her skin look fresh right away.

Then the Naturium peptide serum adds a more long-term, strengthening step that she’s come to rely on for consistency, and the Neutrogena retinol ties it all together by focusing on smoothing and refining over time. It’s a routine that’s simple on paper, but incredibly effective in practice because every product has a clear role and nothing feels unnecessary.

Beauty Tips and Tricks from My 60-Year-Old Mom

My mom’s beauty advice is surprisingly simple. She’s big on consistency over complexity—she’ll use the same few products morning and night instead of constantly switching things up, and she swears that’s where the real results come from.

She’s also very intentional about keeping her routine gentle. If something feels irritating or overly complicated, she’s the first to cut it out. Another thing she always says is that hydration is everything, and she never skips moisturizer, no matter how busy the day gets.

And maybe her most underrated tip is to give products time—she’s not chasing overnight transformations, just slow, steady changes that actually last.

Jennifer Coolidge Reveals Surprising 'Legally Blonde' Audition Mix-Up

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 12:53pm

Jennifer Coolidge's portrayal of the beloved Paulette Bonafonté is arguably one of the actress' most iconic roles. However, the star has revealed that she faced a hilarious mix-up at her Legally Blondeaudition.

The Golden Globe-winning actress thought she was auditioning for the lead role of Elle Woods.

"Well, you know, I forgot that when we first started filming, I was only 17 years old,” she joked during Prime Video’s Elle World, which took place on June 20. “No, I was, and so I just can’t believe it. All this time has gone by.”

She continued, “No, but I do wanna say this, because I thought this was the funniest thing. I was so lucky to get cast in this movie, and it is one of my favorite jobs of all time, but I stupidly thought that when I was auditioning, I thought I was gonna be Elle.”

The lead role ultimately went to toReese Witherspoon, who was also present at the panel. Hosted at Hall des Lumières in New York City, the panel was just one part of an immersive fan experience that celebrated the fan-favorite 2001 movie's 25th anniversary along with the forthcoming Prime Video prequel series, Elle.

Also in attendance were Coolidge and Witherspoon's co-stars Ali Larter, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, and Victor Garber.

Elle will premiere on July 1 and stars Lexi Minetree as a younger version of Witherspoon's character. The much-anticipated series was first announced on May 14, 2024 and in Feb. 2025, Witherspoon passed the Elle Woods torch to Minetree.

"And thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to @reesewitherspoon for handing me down Elle Woods," the 25-year-old wrote in an Instagram post announcing her role. "I already love her so so much, I promise she’s in good hands. P.S. thank you for showing me how amazing I am going to look in the future, soooo looking forward to that."

2002 Song, Written Over 9 Months, Remains One of a Music Legend's Most Powerful Tracks

Sun, 06/21/2026 - 12:48pm

In the later years of his career, music legend Johnny Cashpenned what is considered to be one of his most powerful songs.

"The Man Comes Around" was released on Nov. 5, 2002. The title track to his 67th studio album, American IV: The Man Comes Around, which was also the final album to be released prior to his death in Sept. 2003.

Centering heavily around Christianity and faith, it is reported that the song was inspired by a dream of Cash's, where he was in Buckingham Palace alongside Queen Elizabeth II.

"There [the Queen] sat on the floor, and she looked up at me and said, 'Johnny Cash, you’re like a thorn tree in a whirlwind,'" the musician recalled in a 2002 interview with broadcasterLarry King. "I woke up and thought, 'What could a dream like this mean?' I forgot about it for two or three years, but it kept haunting me. I kept thinking about how vivid it was. I thought maybe it was biblical."

The bizarre dream prompted Cash to write "The Man Comes Around," but it wasn't a track that came easily. In fact, it took the singer several months to create the hit.

"It took me nine months to write it,” he explained in an interview, per Far Out. "I wrote verse after verse, probably 25 or 30 verses, before I was satisfied with the verses I wanted to use in the song. It’s the first time I’ve ever overwritten a song, but I felt like it was necessary."

However, the long writing process paid off, as "The Man Comes Around" became a career-defining song. The titular song helped to earn American IV: The Man Comes Around a place in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, published by Universal Publishing in 2005.

The track enjoyed a considerable amount of commercial success, placing at No. 19 on the Official Physical Singles Chart in the U.K. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
