If you ask a coworker how their weekend was, you’ll probably hear these two words: “Too short.” For many of us, those 48 hours fly by every single week.

A Friday night, Saturday and Sunday (minus the “Sunday scaries” period) are simply not long enough—especially these days, it seems. There’s so much to cram into a weekend, from catching up on sleep, spending time with loved ones, finishing chores, running errands, incorporating relaxation and, let’s be real, catching up on work. If you don’t have enough time to do it all (at least to the extent that you want and need), you’re not alone. A lot of people are groaning alongside you every Sunday night.

Weekends just don’t feel like weekends. That can feel frustrating, disheartening and exhausting. When we look forward to—and need—those two free days so much, feeling like it ended before it started is quite the bummer, to put it mildly.

So, why don’t weekends feel like enough anymore? What hidden things steal our recovery time? What’s the psychology behind it all, and how can we make these mini breaks from work feel like true “time off” again? A psychologist shares validation, insight and tips. Hopefully, Saturdays and Sundays will begin to “hit” again (or for the first time).

The Psychology of Weekend Burnout: Why 48 Hours No Longer Feels Like Enough

Weekends don’t often feel like “weekends” because there’s too much to do during them—especially in a society that pushes us to do all those things listed above. Plus, even if you enjoy those tasks, they’re still things you “have” to get done. Further, that’s not even considering other things you might want to do, like catch up on your favorite TV show or sleep in. 

“For a lot of people, weekends don’t feel like enough because they’re spent catching up on everything they didn’t have time for during the week,” validates Dr. Meghan Marcum, PsyD, the Chief Psychologist of A Mission For Michael in San Juan Capistrano, CA. “Whether that be household responsibilities, running errands, social obligations or unfinished tasks from work, oftentimes, weekends come with their own ‘to-do lists.’”

She adds that dreading Mondays is “deeply human.” 

“Transitioning from the weekend back into a structured and demanding work week can trigger stress and anxiety, and even if you’re technically off the clock, your attention may already be on what’s waiting for you when the weekend is over,” she tells Parade.

The 4 Major Drivers Stealing Your Weekend Recovery Time

According to Dr. Marcum, four main phenomena keep your weekend from being as restorative as possible.

1. Digital tethering

Watching an endless stream of TikTok videos and Instagram reels can feel good and tempting in the moment, and it’s nice to have time for it. However, screens can actually steal your weekend recovery time and even feel draining, per InspiraHealth. Consider spending more time offline. 

“On the weekends, one work notification can be enough to put your brain back into ‘work mode’ and interrupt that psychological separation that is needed for a true work-life balance,” Dr. Marcum explains.

2. Work creep

Along the lines of “digital tethering,” constantly being on your phone or laptop means you see work notifications, which can contribute to “work creep.” This is when small work tasks start to spill into personal time, or you’re asked to do more and more. That could stem from you or your employer’s changing expectations. 

“When answering one email turns into finishing ‘just one more’ task, your brain doesn’t recognize that the workday or workweek is actually over,” Dr. Marcum explains.

3. Over-scheduling

You may want to do a lot of things over the weekend: see friends, go on a romantic date with your partner, catch up on your side hustle, craft, read, work out… it’s a lot to fit in, even if you enjoy all of those things.

“Over-scheduling can easily happen when you’re attempting to cram everything into a short period of time, often leaving you feeling more exhausted,” Dr. Marcum states. “While social plans can be enjoyable and even a way to recharge, it’s crucial to give yourself time to decompress before the new week starts, even if that’s just a few hours of time to yourself.”

4. The ‘Sunday scaries’

While the workweek may not start until Monday morning, it’s understandable if your Sunday evening (at least) is ruined with the dread of the week to come. You might worry about work before you’re even there.

“If you’re already thinking about what needs to be done during the week, or using Sunday to get ahead on work tasks, you’re not giving yourself enough time to fully recharge, which can easily lead to feelings of burnout,” Dr. Marcum shares.

In a way, it causes you to “work” hours that you’re not even really “working” (or getting paid for). It turns a 40-hour-a-week job into more like 45 or 50 hours.

How the Mind Distorts Time When You’re Exhausted

Another phenomenon that steals your time is exhaustion.

“When you’re exhausted, your brain’s processing speed and attention span are reduced, which can distort your internal clock and concept of time,” Dr. Marcum explains. “Overstimulation can also lead to mental exhaustion and trigger a survival response, which can speed up your internal clock.”

How To Reclaim Your Weekend: Practical Ways to Make 48 Hours Count

With so much to do, prioritizing is obviously important. Dr. Marcum encourages prioritizing things that truly recharge you.

“Don’t feel like you need to fill every hour of the weekend just because you have two days off,” she continues. “Give yourself blocks of time where you have no responsibilities and you can focus on resting or hobbies that make you feel fulfilled.” 

Dr. Marcum also recommends taking steps that will help your brain switch out of “work mode.” That might include sticking to a clear cutoff time for when the workweek ends, turning off your computer, silencing notifications and physically putting work materials away.

“Ultimately, the goal of the weekend shouldn’t be to recover as quickly as possible, or to be as productive as possible when you’re not working,” she adds. “If you’re not resting, you will burn out, and if your weekends are leaving you feeling like you need another weekend to recover, you may need to adjust the way your week is structured.”

College volleyball player Amanda Mack has died at age 20.

Mack died Wednesday, Sept. 16, following an illness, according to the College of the Holy Cross, where she had recently enrolled and was recruited to play volleyball.

Her death came just months after the athlete publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a rare and serious blood disorder.

Who Was Amanda Mack?

Mack was a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Florida who played college volleyball at Cincinnati and Eastern Kentucky before transferring to Holy Cross.

Before beginning her collegiate career, Mack attended IMG Academy and became the school’s volleyball program’s first Under Armour All-American. She was also a two-time Under Armour Next MVP and was selected to play in the 2024 Under Armour Next All-America Game.

Mack began her college career at Cincinnati in 2024 before transferring to Eastern Kentucky for her sophomore season. While playing for the Colonels, she appeared in 29 matches, started 26 and recorded 204 kills.

On May 9, Mack shared another milestone with her social media followers, announcing that she would continue her academic and athletic career at Holy Cross.

Just over two months later, her posts took an unexpected turn.

What Illness Did Amanda Mack Have?

On July 13, Mack revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia after suddenly becoming critically ill.

Mack said she initially sought medical attention after waking up with a severe headache and later passing out. Doctors initially considered leukemia as a possible diagnosis before two bone marrow biopsies revealed severe aplastic anemia.

According to the National Library of Medicine, severe aplastic anemia is a rare and serious condition that occurs when the bone marrow does not produce enough new blood cells. The condition can leave patients more susceptible to infections and uncontrolled bleeding.

Mack continued updating her followers as she underwent treatment.

In an Aug. 14 post, the athlete shared that she had completed immunosuppressive therapy at Tampa General and experienced minimal adverse reactions.

“Now we wait for my body to fix my immune system and regenerate my bone marrow,” Mack wrote at the time.

She added that she hoped to soon return home and begin physical therapy as part of her recovery.

An official cause of death has not been publicly announced.

How Is Amanda Mack Being Remembered?

Holy Cross confirmed Mack’s death Friday, Sept. 18, saying she had enrolled at the college over the summer but was unable to join the volleyball team on campus due to her illness.

“Losing a member of our HCVB family is devastating, and Amanda will be missed immensely,” Holy Cross volleyball head coach Matthew Cribbin said in a statement.

The school announced that moments of silence would be held in Mack’s honor ahead of the volleyball team’s matches against American and Navy, as well as the Holy Cross football game.

Mack’s former programs also mourned the athlete.

Friends also took to social media to remember Mack beyond her accomplishments on the volleyball court.

One friend described Mack as someone who always made others feel “welcomed, loved, and appreciated,” while reflecting on the laughter and memories they shared.

The tribute ended with a final message to Mack: “I will carry you with me everywhere I go.”

Amy Purdy is rooting for Ezra Frech on season 35 of Dancing With The Stars!

The Paralympic snowboarder placed second on season 18 of the competition series in 2014 alongside Derek Hough. Purdy made history then as the first double amputee to ever appear on the show.

Frech is also a Paralympic athlete, winning two gold medals at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in track and field. Frech, who was born without most of his left leg and missing fingers on his left hand, also uses a prosthesis.

After Frech and his dance partner, Daniella Karagach, had their debut performance and scored a 20/30—the second-highest of the two-night premiere—for their tango to Kelly Clarkson‘s “Since U Been Gone,” Purdy took to social media to cheer on Frech.

“Ezra said when he was a little boy he watched me on DWTS,” she wrote. “Now I’m watching him on the show taking it to a whole new level. This is why representation matters. When you see it, you believe you can do it.”

“When I was asked to do DWTS in 2014, as a double leg amputee, I had no idea what was possible. Seeing someone like me on TV showing the possibilities was rare,” she added. “Ezra watched me on the show and now here we are … I’m sitting in the ballroom watching HIM. 🥺.”

“Sometimes seeing someone else do something doesn’t just inspire you it expands what you believe is possible for your own life,” she concluded. “And now Ezra gets to do that for someone else. ❤️. Full circle. ❤️🪩💃🏼.”

When Guitar Center launched its “Open for Legends” contest on September 14, the premise was straightforward: submit a video, showcase your talent, and potentially win the chance to open for Ed Sheeran at his Mexico City stop on December 11. According to Entertainment Weekly, the contest’s open submission format – designed to be as accessible as possible for aspiring musicians – turned out to have no way of verifying whether or not uploaded videos actually contained musical performances. That oversight became a significant problem almost immediately.

September 14 also happened to be the day Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s Loop Tour following statements he made onstage about the Israel-Gaza conflict. Soon, what was meant to be a talent discovery platform had become a protest forum, flooded with memes, nonmusical clips, and political videos.

Now Guitar Center faces a genuinely tricky challenge: how do you find a legitimate opening act buried underneath an avalanche of internet trolls? Rolling Stone reported the company has confirmed it is actively reviewing submissions and filtering out entries that don’t meet the competition’s purpose. Unfortunately, with no verification system built into the original platform, that process is entirely manual.

Dancing With the Stars pro Rylee Arnold is finally answering a question fans are dying to know: When was the last time she spoke to Harry Jowsey?

Arnold and Jowsey were paired up for season 32 of the reality competition series, ultimately placing sixth. During the season’s airing, the pair sparked intense dating speculation through their social media posts, public appearances, and Jowsey gifting her a $15,000 bracelet.

On Friday, Sept. 18, Arnold appeared on the YouTube series “Search Bar” and revealed the last time she spoke with the reality star.

“I think it was a long time ago, but obviously [it’s] not important enough to remember,” she quipped.

In an April 2024 episode of his Boyfriend Material podcast, Jowsey clarified that he and Arnold were never romantically involved and revealed that he actually had a secret girlfriend at the start of DWTS. He explained that he and Arnold set strict boundaries from the beginning, as he knew he was “not the right guy” for her.

Jowsey also explained that the intense pressure of the show and public scrutiny contributed to the end of his relationship with his girlfriend at the time.

In the episode, Jowsey called Arnold a “cute little blonde girl” and said that he told her he was not the right guy for her due to their age difference. He also said he wanted to protect her from the drama surrounding his personal life.

Shortly after the episode—which some fans felt was disrespectful toward Arnold—was released, Arnold unfollowed Jowsey on Instagram, and he unfollowed her later as well. At the time, fans also accused Jowsey of fueling romance rumors with the then-teenager for attention on social media.

During the “Search Bar” interview, Arnold admitted that she thought it was “really weird” that fans were shipping her with Jowsey and called his Netflix dating series Let’s Marry Harry a “train wreck.”

In the Let’s Marry Harry finale, Harry Jowsey chose and married travel photographer Amber Mozo. The pair later confirmed that they had ended their relationship in January 2026, nearly two months after their wedding was filmed.

Arnold is currently competing on Season 35 of DWTS and is partnered with comedian and podcaster Connor Wood.

In 1964, television audiences met one of the strangest families ever to move into a sitcom neighborhood.

The Addams Family premiered on ABC on Sept. 18, 1964, introducing viewers to Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, Lurch and Thing.

But despite the enormous pop culture footprint the family would eventually leave behind, the original series wasn’t actually around for very long.

The Addams Family aired for just two seasons, producing 64 half-hour episodes before ending its run on April 8, 1966.

Those 64 episodes, however, helped turn characters that originated in Charles Addams’ cartoons for The New Yorker into a franchise that would continue through movies, animated shows, television revivals and even Broadway.

Shot in black and white, The Addams Family aired Friday nights on ABC and starred John Astin as Gomez Addams and Carolyn Jones as Morticia Addams.

They were joined by Lisa Loring as Wednesday, Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley, Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester, Ted Cassidy as Lurch and Blossom Rock as Grandmama.

The television adaptation also transformed Addams’ cartoons in a significant way. The characters in the original single-panel cartoons had been unnamed. For the series, they were given names, backstories and a household setting, helping establish the versions of the Addamses that audiences recognize today.

Cousin Itt was among the characters created specifically for the TV series.

And then there was Thing.

The disembodied hand appeared from boxes and other containers around the Addams home to perform everyday tasks, including retrieving mail, answering the telephone, lighting Gomez’s cigars and even playing chess. Thing was credited as “Itself” in the show’s closing credits.

The sitcom’s humor largely came from flipping conventional ideas about normality upside down. Gomez and Morticia were wealthy, deeply devoted to one another and unfailingly hospitable to visitors. It was everyone else who couldn’t understand why the Addamses considered things like pet spiders, torture racks and dynamite perfectly ordinary.

Series creator David Levy explained to the Pittsburgh Press before the show’s premiere that the goal wasn’t to portray the family as monsters, but as fully realized people while maintaining the spirit of Charles Addams’ cartoons.

The series arrived at nearly the same time as another black-and-white sitcom about an unusual family, The Munsters. But Astin later explained to MeTV that there was a fundamental difference between them: the Munsters looked like monsters while behaving conventionally, whereas the Addamses looked human while finding conventional behavior bizarre.

The Addams Family also gave television one of its most instantly recognizable theme songs.

Composer Vic Mizzy wrote and arranged the opening, which prominently featured harpsichord and bass clarinet. Mizzy improvised the famous finger snaps while presenting his composition for approval, and they worked so well that they became part of the finished theme.

The original series ended in 1966, but the Addamses didn’t stay buried.

Members of the original cast returned for a 1977 television reunion, while the family later inspired the 1991 movie starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci. Addams Family Values followed in 1993.

More adaptations arrived in the decades that followed, including the enormously popular Netflix series Wednesday, several animated movies and a Broadway musical.

It all traces back to a television series that premiered 62 years ago today and needed only 64 episodes to make the Addams family very difficult to kill.

Dancing with the Stars 2026 returns for its second night of Season 35 with the 14 remaining celebrities and their professional partners returning to the dance floor to continue the battle for the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy.

Once again, the competition  series will be co-hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough resuming their seats at the judges’ desk.

President Donald Trump says three major news outlets are no longer welcome at the White House.

Trump made the announcement Friday, Sept. 18, stating that he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico “effective immediately,” citing their coverage of his administration.

Why Did Trump Ban CNN, MS NOW and Politico From the White House?

Trump announced the decision in a post on Truth Social, the social media platform launched by Trump Media & Technology Group in 2022.

In the post, Trump accused CNN, MS NOW and Politico of repeatedly publishing false information about him and his administration. He also suggested that additional news organizations could face similar restrictions.

When reporters later asked Trump whether a particular story prompted Friday’s announcement, he said there was “no reason” tied to a specific report.

“It’s really just cumulative stories over the last few years. You get sick of it,” Trump said.

Trump also denied that he was trying to intimidate the press when questioned by White House Correspondent Catherine Lucey.

What Does Trump’s White House Media Ban Mean?

Trump said the ban was “effective immediately,” but the White House had not initially explained exactly how the restrictions would be implemented. Trump later said he did not want the three outlets in the Oval Office.

Despite the announcement, CNN journalists remained at the White House and continued working Friday afternoon, according to CNN’s chief media analyst Brian Stelter.

How Did CNN Respond to Trump’s Ban?

CNN pushed back against Trump’s announcement in a newly released statement.

“CNN stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting,” the network said. “We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government.”

CNN added that if the threatened ban is implemented, the network would consider it “an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right.”

The announcement also drew criticism from First Amendment advocates.

Jameel Jaffer, executive director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, said in a statement that if Trump intends to remove the organizations from the White House press pool, “his action is doubly unconstitutional because the press pool is a ‘public forum’ under the First Amendment.”

It remains unclear when—or exactly how—the restrictions on CNN, MS NOW and Politico will be enforced.

“It was awesome,” Riley said. “Hazel is a very Alabama name by the way. You can be Southern and don’t even know it. And the camouflage thing. There’s a lot of things going on here that can really makes a lot of sense. It feels right to me. It definitely was not country, but there’s something really cool about music that just touches people.”

Then Kelly made her pitch, “I wanted to start coaching and here’s why: I loved your sound but what I would love to work on with you is releasing that last level. There’s so much more in there — not only vocally — I mean like your actual spirit. When I was watching you, I was like, ‘Just let it out.’ I just want that lion in there.’”

Then Hazel interrupted Kelly to say, “I love that. Also the long hair looks really be beautiful by the way.”

And that’s when things got crazy with Kelly saying, “Thank you. I will give it to you. It’s clipped in. You can have it,” and she pulled out a hank of hair. Then she continued, “I will share. Don’t you want a coach who will share with you? And look, I have this really cute jacket.”

At that point, Riley jumped in, showing Hazel his prize to his team members, “You would look really good in overalls.”

Adam tried to reign things in by telling everyone to sit down.

But Riley continued, “I’ll be honest with you. I saw this hair up close and I don’t know if you want it.”

Adam took back control telling Hazel, “I’m going to ask you a hard question right now. Who do you think is your coach?”

To which Hazel said, “I’m really bad with decisions but this is an easy one…”

Danis specializes in endometriosis, ovulation induction, fertility preservation, LGBTQIA family building, and infertility care. Her biography also details her clinical and translational research, including an AbbVie grant involving elagolix. Her profile also highlighted her interests outside medicine, noting, “When she is out of the office, you can find her taking a Barry’s Bootcamp class, a ballet class, baking with her family, or strolling through Central Park.”

Who Are Rachel Danis’ Parents?

Only limited information about Danis’ family has been publicly confirmed. Her mother has been identified as Sue Danis, 69. According to the Daily Mail, Sue supported her daughter’s marriage to Patrick and described him to friends as “a really nice guy.”

After the wedding, Sue reportedly wrote of Rachel, “I hope it all goes well for her.” Mainstream reporting has not reliably identified Rachel’s father.

Danis says they met in Central Park. “I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that,” she said in a 60 Minutes preview.

Patrick had relocated to New York following the January 2023 deaths of his children. Fitness is another shared passion. They run together regularly and even took a Run X LIFT class together in 2024, as per Fox News. Rachel has also stood behind Patrick’s charity work, including The Heard Foundation, which he co-founded after his children’s deaths.

In June 2025, the two helped build a playground together, marked by a sign at the entrance bearing the names of his three children.

According to the Daily Mail, a longtime friend of Rachel’s family said the couple bonded over compassion, optimism and a shared love of fitness, with photos showing them running, hiking and working out together as early as February 2024.

The friend described Rachel as naturally nurturing and said her mother, Sue, 69, also supported the marriage, calling Patrick “a really nice guy.”

While the couple now lives in New York, Danis has faced intense online scrutiny and negativity tied to the case and her marriage to Patrick.

Patrick’s relationship with Lindsay has remained compassionate despite the unimaginable loss at the center of their family. Just four days after the killings, Patrick publicly asked people to forgive Lindsay in a statement posted to the family’s GoFundMe.

“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” he wrote. “The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”

More than a year later, Patrick made clear that his view had not changed. In an October 2024 profile with The New Yorker, he said, “I wasn’t married to a monster—I was married to someone who got sick.”

Speaking about the life that disappeared after the tragedy, Patrick also told the publication, “There’s no house anymore. There are no kids. All that’s left is me and Lindsay.”

Patrick declined to discuss the status of their marriage at the time out of respect for Lindsay, but he reiterated his forgiveness after completing the Boston Marathon in April 2024. “I said I forgive my wife and I do,” he told The New Yorker.

Delta is going big in Los Angeles next summer. Really big.

The airline just announced its largest-ever schedule at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and for travelers, that means more than simply seeing a few extra Delta planes on the tarmac.

At the peak of summer 2027, Delta and its partners will operate more than 200 departures a day to nearly 70 destinations from LAX. Even better: There are two brand-new nonstop routes in the mix, more frequent flights to seven U.S. cities and some pretty impressive upgrades happening on the ground, too.

So whether you’re trying to escape to Big Sur for the weekend, get to Boston without rearranging your entire day or simply enjoy a glass of Champagne in their swanky lounge before boarding, here’s what you’ll want to know.

Delta Is Adding 2 New Nonstop Routes From LAX

First up: Monterey.

Beginning Dec. 19, 2026, Delta will fly nonstop from LAX to Monterey twice daily aboard an Embraer 175. That puts Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur within much easier reach for Angelenos, minus the roughly five-hour drive from L.A. And with Big Little Lies officially heading back for a third season, consider this one very well-timed way to follow in the footsteps of the Monterey Five.

And golfers may want to take note, too. The route arrives ahead of one of the sport’s biggest championships happening in the region next summer. Delta will also begin a daily nonstop between Salt Lake City and Monterey on Dec. 19.

“We’re continuing to invest in more ways for customers to experience everything California has to offer,” Amy Martin, Delta’s Vice President of Network Planning, said of the expansion.

Then, on June 7, 2027, Delta will add a daily nonstop between LAX and Philadelphia, operated on an Airbus A321neo. So cheesesteaks, Rocky steps and one of the country’s best restaurant scenes are about to get another direct connection to Southern California.

More Flights Are Coming to 7 Popular Cities

Anyone who has ever found the perfect flight home only to discover it leaves at 6 a.m. knows that frequency can be just as important as a new destination.

So, Delta is increasing service between LAX and seven existing destinations throughout spring and summer 2027. Boston jumps to five daily flights, San Diego gets five and Seattle will have a whopping eight Delta flights a day at the summer peak. Time to take advantage of those SkyMiles!

Raleigh-Durham and Cincinnati will each increase to twice-daily service, while Houston and San Antonio will each rise to three flights per day.

Altogether, Delta says it will be the only airline at LAX serving all 10 of the airport’s largest markets with multiple daily flights.

The LAX Lounge Situation Is Getting Even Better

Listen up because this may be the part frequent flyers appreciate most.

Delta has already poured $2.3 billion into its Sky Way at LAX, which connected and modernized Terminals 2 and 3. LAX has also become the first airport in Delta’s network with not one, but two Delta One Lounges.

And they’re not done.

An additional 11,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club is scheduled to open in Terminal 2 in 2027. By 2028, Delta expects to have four lounges across Terminals 2 and 3, totaling more than 60,000 square feet and 1,000 seats.

For Delta One passengers, the premium treatment starts before the lounge. LAX offers a dedicated Delta One Check-In area with private TSA security screening, followed by access to the Delta One Lounge.

In other words, the “get to LAX ridiculously early” part of the trip might become considerably more enjoyable.

There Are New Perks Once You’re in the Air, Too

In the more good news department: The upgrades don’t stop at the gate.

Delta says it currently offers more premium seats at LAX than any other airline, and its international flights from Los Angeles are operated with Airbus A350-900s featuring 40 Delta One seats. Delta One is also available on select domestic routes from LAX, including flights to Honolulu, Maui, Kona, New York-JFK, Boston and Atlanta.

Starting Oct. 1, Delta One passengers will also find a revamped wine program featuring 13 wines from California and international producers, while Champagne Taittinger is expanding to Domestic Delta One.

Flying Domestic First Class? Select flights feature dishes from chef José Andrés, like Spanish tortilla with pisto Manchego, braised beef short rib with mojo rojo BBQ sauce and creamy polenta, stuffed piquillo peppers with goat cheese and mushrooms and Spanish-style chicken with sherry and dried fruit.

And there’s something for travelers sitting farther back in the plane, too: fast, free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members, with the service expanding to Delta flights from Los Angeles across the Pacific this fall.

Taken together, the new routes, added flights and growing lineup of airport and onboard perks make Delta’s biggest-ever LAX schedule about more than just an impressive number. For travelers, more than 200 daily departures means more choices for where to go, when to fly and how to get there.

And if Big Sur has been sitting on your bucket list, that new twice-daily Monterey flight might be reason enough to start planning.

More than five decades after it became a major radio hit, Argent’s “Hold Your Head Up” remains one of the best-known rock songs of the early 1970s. 

The song reached No. 5 in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada in 1972, turning the British band’s long road to success into a worldwide breakthrough.

There is one important detail behind the song’s history: “Hold Your Head Up” was first released in 1971, before its major 1972 chart run. It later appeared on Argent’s third album, All Together Now, released in 1972. 

According to Record Collector, the album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, where the band found a sound that helped push its music toward a wider audience.

The song was written by former Zombies members Chris White and Rod Argent and featured lead vocals from Russ Ballard. Its message was simple and direct: keep going when life becomes difficult.

That message, along with its strong guitar, bass and keyboard parts, helped make the song stand out during a period when progressive rock was often built around long songs rather than radio-friendly singles.

Argent was formed in 1969 by keyboard player Rod Argent after the breakup of The Zombies. The new band also included Russ Ballard, Jim Rodford and Bob Henrit.

The group did not become an immediate success. Its first two albums, Argent in 1970 and Ring of Hands in 1971, failed to break into the Top 100 in the United States or the United Kingdom.

That changed with All Together Now.

Rod Argent recalled the importance of the move to Abbey Road. “We moved to record at Abbey Road and we really started to get some big, worldwide commercial success,” he said, per Louder.

The album included “Hold Your Head Up,” a song that showed both sides of Argent’s musical style. Rod Argent brought his keyboard skills and interest in progressive rock, while Ballard brought a strong sense of melody and straightforward songwriting.

Ballard remembered that he wanted the song to move faster than the rest of the band did.

“I wanted to do Hold Your Head Up incredibly fast and the band wanted it more slowly,” Ballard said.

The recording also gained something unexpected in the studio. Ballard explained that the famous vocal part was not part of the original rehearsal.

“When we recorded it, all that ‘Hold your head up, wooooaaaah!’ wasn’t in the original, the way we’d rehearsed it. Rod just came up with it in the studio.”

The finished recording ran for more than six minutes. That was a challenge for radio, where shorter songs were easier to program.

Radio stations solved the problem by using a much shorter edit. The song was cut to roughly three minutes, giving listeners the main hook without the extended sections of the album version.

That edit helped “Hold Your Head Up” reach a much larger audience. The song climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It also reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 5 in Canada. 

“Hold Your Head Up” delivers an easy-to-understand message about facing hard times without giving up. Early in the song, Ballard sings about not allowing a bad situation to bring you down.

The Hammond B3 solo has received especially strong praise over the years. Keyboard player Rick Wakeman described it as the “greatest organ solo ever.”

The song also continued to find new listeners through cover versions and live performances. Former Marillion singer Fish recorded his own version for the 1993 album Songs from the Mirror. 

Other artists and bands have also performed or recorded the song, including Mother Love Bone and the Party Boys.

Argent itself eventually ended its original run. The band recorded several more albums after All Together Now, including In Deep, Nexus, Circus and Counterpoints. Russ Ballard left after Nexus and went on to build a successful career as a solo artist and songwriter.

Argent later reunited for concerts, including a performance at the High Voltage Festival in London in 2010 and additional shows in the following years. The band’s final performance came in 2013.

On Sept. 18, 1978, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss each released a self-titled solo album. Not in sequence. The same day, all four at once.

It looked like a victory lap. It was a rescue plan.

Ace Had Already Quit

KISS was at its commercial peak after 1977’s Love Gun, and privately coming apart. Frehley told the others he was done.

“Ace had first announced he wanted to leave the band. We held a band meeting on the lot where we were shooting the movie,” Stanley wrote in his 2014 memoir Face the Music. Manager Bill Aucoin and Casablanca owner Neil Bogart came back with a fix. “‘You don’t need to leave the band,’ Bill said. ‘We’ll do solo albums.'”

Stanley’s verdict, decades later: “That turned out to be our next folly.”

Built to Look Like a Set

The records were designed as a matched collection, with painted portraits of each man and coordinated packaging. Stanley’s background was purple, Simmons’ red, Frehley’s blue and Criss’ green.

Every copy came with a poster. Buy all four and the posters fit together into a single mural.

Four Records, Four Directions

The packaging matched. The music did not. None of the four appeared on anyone else’s record.

Stanley stayed closest to the arena rock that built the band. Simmons went eclectic and filled his album with guest musicians. Criss made his while recovering from a car crash that broke his nose, ribs and hands. “I played drums with little casts on each finger,” he wrote in his own memoir. “It was incredibly painful, but I had a goal in mind, to do the best album of the four and leave the band with dignity.”

Frehley, the band’s lead guitarist, turned out to be the surprise. His cover of a 1975 British glam single reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, the breakout hit of the four.

The band they were meant to save did not last in that form. Frehley and Criss were both gone within a few years.

Money won is a lot sweeter than money earned, they say.

But funds rightfully through a settlement are also a bright spot, and Americans can claim up to $5,000 from a $3.1 million settlement after a 2024 data breach, The U.S. Sun reports.

California-based Palomar Health Medical Group failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures, plaintiffs had claimed. The settlement benefits those whose private information may have been accessed in a data breach a couple years ago.

Here is the official report as to what happened on PHMG’s website: “On May 5, 2024, PHMG identified suspicious activity on certain computer systems within its network. PHMG immediately launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to certain files within PHMG’s network from April 23, 2024, to May 5, 2024, and may have copied those files.”

The report continues, “Following the investigation, PHMG undertook a comprehensive review of all the files potentially impacted to assess the information contained therein and to whom it related, and to locate address information for all affected individuals. On September 4, 2025, PHMG finalized this review and determined that information related to you could be affected.”

Palomar Health could have prevented the breach with better cybersecurity. plaintiffs have argued. PHMG hasn’t admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid further court action.

Under the settlement, class members who suffered documented losses can claim up to $5,000.

Eligible documents to support claims include bank statements, receipts or other financial paperwork, The U.S. Sun noted on Friday, September 18. The amounts are subject to change based on the number of successful claims. All class members can receive two years of free credit monitoring.

The deadline to submit a claim form is October 22, and payments will be distributed following a November 6 final approval hearing. Claim forms can be submitted here.

Job seekers may want to think twice before walking into a job interview carrying an iced coffee. The question of whether or not it’s OK to bring an iced coffee with you to a job interview sparked a heated debate on social media this week after TikTok users posted varying reaction videos sharing their opinions about the topic.

The conversation even became a trending headline on LinkedIn, the social media platform most use for networking and career development. LinkedIn News editor Rachel Kleinman shared the debate in a post, explaining, “While proponents say a candidate’s beverage of choice can help showcase their ‘personality,’ detractors insist it’s inappropriate, citing the condensation that can leave hands and desktops damp.”

San Francisco news outlet KRON4 News covered the debate, too, and even shared a poll asking viewers whether or not they think it’s appropriate to bring an iced coffee to a job interview. At the time of publishing this article, only about 14% of poll participants said that yes, they think bringing an iced coffee drink into an interview is A-OK.

LinkedIn user Benjamin Chipman shared he’s OK with bringing coffee to interviews, but offered some rules about etiquette if you choose to do so. Among the “don’ts” of bringing coffee to a job interview? Don’t shake the drink the entire time or slurp it down. And, don’t hold it in your right hand so that your hand is wet if you want to shake hands. Oh, and don’t put your iced coffee cup on someone’s desk.

Chipman’s dos include remembering to take the coffee with you when you leave and making sure to be on time for the interview, since showing up late after having made a coffee stop is a bad look. Chipman, who works in marketing, also suggested using your coffee to your advantage. “Use it to buy yourself 30 [seconds] to breathe and think about a question being asked,” he wrote.

Solid advice, for sure, but as for whether showing up to an interview sipping an iced pumpkin spice latte is a good look or not, only time will tell. If you follow the advice of the 45% of poll participants who say they do not think it’s OK to bring coffee into a job interview, maybe leave that PSL in the car to sip on when you’re finished.
