The Kinks are often called the underdogs of the British Invasion. Sharing airwaves and aesthetics with giants like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in the 1960s, it’s easy to see why. But one listen to “All Day and All of the Night,” and it’s even easier to see how the English rockers helped invent hard rock.

Released in September 1964 as a standalone single and later featured on their second studio album, Kinks-Size (1965), the track is widely regarded by critics and musicians as a precursor to punk, metal, and hard rock. And now, more than five decades later, it remains a timeless power anthem and one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time.

“The one that started it was ‘All Day and All of the Night,’” Ray Davies, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary songwriter for The Kinks, explained to Classic Rock. “The sounds on that one, if they were made today, would sound like Green Day or a metal band.”

The Kinks’ 1964 follow-up to their smash hit “You Really Go Me” broke the mold of typical pop through its use of driving chords, aggressive riffs, and visceral rebellious energy. Complete with direct, mildly sexual lyrics delivered with Davies’ gritty vocals, the song brought a new level of intensity to rock music that can still be heard in the generations of punk, hard rock, and metal bands that followed. 

That signature sound actually has an interesting backstory. According to Far Out magazine, in the early ’60s, Davies' personal life had reached a tipping point, so he took out his rage on an amplifier with a razor blade. 

“I had a little green amplifier, an Elpico, that was sounding crap,” he said. “I thought, I’ll teach it -- and slashed the speaker cone. It changed the sound of my guitar. Then, when I wired that amp up to another Vox AC30, it made it a lot, lot louder.”

The raw proto-punk roar he created with that damaged speaker became the track’s signature sound, and went on to inspire band after band, from Black Sabbath to Metallica, The Who to The Clash. In 2009, during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Metallica’sJames Hetfield even credited The Kinks as the band that started it all.

“We got completely schooled on early riff-rock by this man and his band – The Kinks,” Hetfield said of Davies. 

According to Classic Rock, Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Reed, and more have publicly cited the song as the “jump-off point for punk and hard rock."

Peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, the track went all the way to No. 2 in the U.K. Still, the track’s legacy far outweighs its chart performance. Written in just a few days, the song was supposed to be another smash hit — a demand from producers to follow up the wildly successful "You Really Got Me." 

“It’s more demanding. Maybe that was because we’d just come off a success with a number one single. So it was a bit cocky,” Davies said.

But it ended up being so much more. “All Day And All Of The Night" was a ferocious blast of rock’n’roll. It gave The Kinks their second major hit and cemented them in the U.S. as one of the key bands of the British Invasion,” Classic Rock wrote. 

Heavily covered, most famously by the English rock band The Stranglers (who reached No. 7 in the U.K. with their 1987 cover), the track has even made its way into the hip-hop realm with 2 Live Crew sampling it for their 1988Miami bass hit, “One and One.”

For a band once overshadowed by TheFab Four and Mick Jagger, The Kinks sure left a massive footprint. And decades later, “All Day and All of the Night” still sounds loud, raw, and built for distortion.

Beloved 2010s rockers I Prevail are teasing new music, revealing plans for a fresh single.

Speaking with Wall of Sound amid the Australian leg of the band's world tour, vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe announced that the Grammy Award-nominated musicians were gearing up to drop their latest single, "Paradise".

"It's got some singing. It's got some screaming. It's got some special... I don't wanna give too much away, but there's something cool we did with it, and I can't wait for people to hear it," he explained. "But, yeah, it's coming up quick, and I'm excited for people to see what we're cooking,"

When asked the question, Vanlerberghe said that the band decided not to include "Paradise" on their most recent album, 2025's Violent Nature, simply because it wasn't completed at the time of the release.

"Honestly, we wrote it after the record was done," he noted. "What's been great about this last few years is, in the past we would tour, tour, tour, and then go, 'Okay, we're gonna take some time off and work on a record,"

For the last few years, the band's bassist,  JonEberhard, has also served as a producer, meaning it was easier to work on new music on-the-go.

"So, as soon as 'Violent Nature' was out, we were already just keeping the muscle of creativity fresh and continuing writing," Vanlerberghe continued. "And we got stuff that I don't know if it'll ever come out, but it's just fun to create and write and keep that muscle flexing."

In May 2025, I Prevail parted ways with vocalist Brian Burkheiser, who handled all of the clean vocals for the band since their inception in 2013. Since Burkheiser's departure following a string of health struggles, Vanlerberghe has lead all of the singing.

I Prevail's breakout came in 2014 after they released a viral hardcore cover version of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space." On Oct. 21, 2026, the group unveiled their debut album, Lifelines, via Fearless Records.

After Australia, the band has tour stops across several cities in Europe before hitting the U.S. through the end of the year.

Your home is your sanctuary, but it can also harbor seemingly innocent products that could be silently raising your risk of cancer. There’s one in particular that’s gotten a lot of attention lately, and is even banned in some states. 

As with many things, the link between this product and cancer is a little muddled. There are no studies that directly say that using this common household product will give you cancer. But there are plenty that suggest that a chemical used in them raises the risk of cancer, which is enough to give oncologists pause.

You’re not destined to get cancer if you have this product in your home, according to Dr. Mark Ashamalla, MD, chief of radiation oncology, Episcopal Health Services Cancer Center. But if you’re conscious about trying to lower your odds of developing cancer, steering clear of this is one more thing you can do to keep yourself safe. 

“In oncology, we aim for practical risk reduction, not fear,” explains Dr. Avishek Kumar, MD, an oncologist at Regional Cancer Care Associates in Edison, NJ. That’s why he suggests “small, smart swaps over time, no anxiety required.”

The 1 Product Oncologists Would Remove From Their Homes

Old, worn-down nonstick pans are concerning, according to oncologists. “The primary issues with nonstick pans and potential carcinogens stem from their chemical coatings, particularly when they are overheated or damaged,” says Dr. Jamie Koprivnikar, MD, a hematology oncologist at John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. 

Modern nonstick pans are free of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is a chemical that was linked to kidney and testicular cancer, Dr. Koprivnikar points out. “It’s worth noting that PFOA has been largely phased out of cookware manufacturing since 2015,” Ashamalla says. “However, some replacement chemicals—such as GenX—are suspected to have similar toxicity profiles, so a ‘PFOA-free’ label does not necessarily mean the product is entirely free of PFAS-related concerns.”

Nonstick pans also typically have a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon) coating that can be risky when heated above 500 degrees, Dr. Koprivnikar says. 

“It can break down and release toxic fumes that cause a flu-like illness known as polymer fume fever,” Dr. Koprivnikar explains. “Furthermore, scratches from utensils or abrasive cleaning can cause the coating to chip and degrade, which may lead to the leaching of chemicals and the release of thousands to millions of microplastic and nanoplastic particles into your food during cooking.”

Here's where things get slightly confusing: PTFE is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as a group 3 carcinogen, meaning it's not classified as causing cancer in humans. But the precursor molecule that's used to make PTFE, tetrafluoroethylene, isconsidered a carcinogen. (However, Ashamalla points out that the biggest concerns come from people with high exposures to these chemicals.)

“Where I do pay attention is old or damaged pans,” Dr. Kumar says. “Once a coating is scratched, peeling or repeatedly overheated, you're getting exposures the manufacturer never intended.”

What To Use Instead

It’s possible to get nonstick pans that don’t contain PFAS, according to Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD, oncologist, co-director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and author ofEat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life. (Just be sure to read the label carefully.)

“You can also use carbon steel cookware, titanium or ceramic cookware, all of which are PFAS-free and easy to clean up,” Dr. Emanuel says. 

Stainless steel is a “versatile and non-reactive workhorse” that can be helpful, too, Dr. Koprivnikar says. “Enameled cast iron provides the superior heat retention of traditional cast iron but with an easy-to-clean, non-reactive surface that doesn't require seasoning, while ceramic cookware offers a modern, PFAS-free non-stick coating that is effective but less durable over time,” he says.

And, for baking and food storage, Dr. Koprivnikar suggests glass containers.

How To Use Nonstick Pans as Safely as Possible

Again, the best thing you can do for your cancer risk and chemical exposure is to avoid nonstick pans entirely, especially if they're old or scratched. But doctors say you can still use nonstick pans if you’re careful. 

“Replace pans when the coating is extensively scratched, peeling, flaking or otherwise deteriorated—research has shown that older, degraded cookware releases significantly more microplastic particles into food than new cookware,” says Dr. Ashamalla. He also suggests using wood, silicone or other nonabrasive utensils over metal utensils.

But Dr. Kumar suggests just doing your best. “The way I explain cancer risk to patients is that it's cumulative. It's almost never one thing,” he says. “It's genetics plus smoking plus weight plus alcohol plus decades of small environmental exposures stacking up. So when there's a cheap, easy way to remove one of those exposures, I take it. A frying pan is about as cheap and easy as it gets.”

Scottie Scheffler could make history at the U.S. Open on Sunday, June 21. A first-place finish would not only earn him his first U.S. Open Championship Trophy, but the career Grand Slam.

Throughout the course of his career, Scheffler has had the support of his wife, Meredith, who is often on the sidelines cheering him on. This year, Scheffler's two sons, Bennett, 2, and Remy, 3 months, will also be on-hand to celebrate—if Scheffler can finish on top of the leaderboard.

"It takes a lot of work for me to be able to do this for a living, and it’s a lot of sacrifice for [Meredith]. To be able to celebrate those moments for both of us is really cool," he recently told People magazine.

Following the current season, Scheffler has some personal plans that he's looking forward to.

"Immediately when the season ends, the first thing I want to do is just spend the time at home," he told the outlet. "Bennett is hilarious. He’s just your typical little boy—he loves cars and trucks and dirt. He loves golf, he loves sports, and I look forward to just being able to be there and experience those things with him."

Heading into Sunday's final round, Scheffler was one under, tied for second place with three other pros—all of whom trailed Wyndham Clark, who has dominated the tournament thus far.

For Scheffler, the chance to share a career-defining moment with his family makes the U.S. Open even more meaningful. The golfer has often spoken about keeping perspective beyond the course, and his growing family has become a major part of his life away from competition. As he chases another milestone in his career, Meredith and his sons will be there for support.

Over 50 years after releasing a beloved classic rock hit, AC/DCjust reached a major streaming milestone.

The legendary band's 1975 track "T.N.T." is among the latest group of songs to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify, joining an exclusive list of songs to ever achieve the milestone.

Spotify announced its latest additions to its Billions Club earlier this week, revealing AC/DC's "T.N.T." among its newest members for May 2026, along with other songs by Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Don McLean, Darius Rucker and several more.

Roughly 1,300 songs on Spotify have reached 1 billion, while the platform hosts over 100 million total songs in its library, meaning only around 0.0013 percent of songs ever make it into the Billions club.

"T.N.T." is AC/DC's fifth song to reach the impressive milestone, three of which have accumulated more than 2 billion streams: "Highway to Hell," "Thunderstruck" and "Back in Black."

The 1979 hit "Highway to Hell," released as the title track of the band's sixth studio album, has the most Spotify streams of any AC/DC track, with a whopping 2.34 billion.

"Thunderstruck," released in 1990, is next in line with over 2.27 billion streams, followed by "Back in Black" with more than 2.19 billion.

The band's 1980 single "You Shook Me All Night Long" is already on its way to 2 billion, with over 1.7 billion on the platform currently.

"T.N.T." was initially released in Australia in December 1975 as the title track on AC/DC's second studio album, and it came out as a single exclusively in Australia in March 1976. It was later introduced to U.S. fans when it was included on the band's High Voltage album, which was released internationally in September 1976.

Few songs have captured the bond between a parent and child quite like "Father and Son."

When Cat Stevens released the song in 1970, the poignant ballad quickly became one of the standout tracks from Tea for the Tillerman. Built around a conversation between a father urging patience and a son eager to find his own way, the song has resonated with generations of listeners and gradually became one of the most enduring Father's Day anthems in popular music.

But more than 50 years later, Stevens found a remarkable new way to tell the story.

In 2020, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Tea for the Tillerman, Yusuf / Cat Stevens reimagined “Father and Son” by creating a duet with his younger self. Using his original 1970 vocal for the son and recording a new vocal as the father, Stevens transformed the song into a conversation across generations, one that reflected not only the lyrics, but his own life journey in the decades since.

"I didn't really intend to do another version, to be honest," Stevens told Song Exploder. "But it was my son's idea when we were talking about what to do for the 50th, you know, anniversary of the release of Tea for the Tillerman, so what are we gonna do? And he suggested this idea, 'Why don't we record it again, because you're singing it kind of differently today,' I said, 'Well, that's a good idea.'"

The idea was especially fitting because "Father and Son" had always been about perspective. Originally written for an unproduced musical called Revolussia, the song outgrew its original storyline and instead became a universal reflection on the challenges of growing up, letting go and learning to understand one another.

"'Father And Son' is probably the most prominent and profound song on the album," Stevens told GQ. "Essentially, it was about Nicholas and Alexander, the last tsars of Russia, and against that there’s another story about this family in the farmland, in the country. And the father, of course, basically wants to keep things as they are, while the son is really inspired by the revolution. He wants to join. And so that’s the inspiration for that song. That’s why I’m able to represent both sides – though I feel that my preference, my emphasis, was on the son’s side, and the father’s arguments were not quite as strong as the son’s, which is interesting. Change is basically the theme of the song."

It would go on to become one of the defining songs of Stevens' career.

The anniversary version added another emotional layer. Accompanied by an animated video, the updated recording allowed listeners to hear the wisdom of age alongside the hope and determination of youth, creating a dialogue between the same artist separated by half a century.

Over the years, "Father and Son" has been covered by numerous artists and featured in films, television shows and countless Father's Day playlists. Yet its enduring appeal has always come from its honesty. Every generation seems to find something different in the conversation between father and son.

"Even though you would expect that I would start to like take the father's role, I certainly don't," Stevens said. "I still wait for the son's part and then I wanna sing it much more than I wanna sing the father's part. The father's part is great, you know, you go through, you swim through it, and it's fine. You know he's kind of casual, he's a bit concerned, you know, but he's settled down, you know, sit down, just take it easy. Yeah. But, yeah, I wanna get back to the son. There's a way I know, I've gotta go. So I always choose the son's dynamic. Because there are still things to march about, there's still things to shout about, still things to sing about. I think that's the world that we live in, and it's never gonna change."

More than 50 years after it was first released, "Father and Son" continues to connect with listeners just as powerfully as it did in 1970. And thanks to its unique reimagining, one of Cat Stevens' greatest songs found new life by allowing the past and present to sing together for the very first time.

Movie adaptations of books, video games and even board games remain ever popular in Hollywood these days.

Nearly 15 years ago, a big-budget action film hit theaters that was based on the classic guessing game Battleship, which we all probably played at one point in our childhoods.

After a full month on the platform, the Liam Neeson and Rihanna starrer currently sits at No. 8 on the Top 10 Movies in the U.S. list. Rihanna, 38, made headlines last month when she paid the ultimate tribute to her three young children by taking one of their artful designs and turning it into permanent body art—specifically a new tattoo on the back of her leg.

Pro golfer Wyndham Clark is well on his way to winning the U.S. Open. Sitting high atop the leaderboard at seven under heading into Sunday's final round, Clark is looking to secure his second U.S. Open win—he previously won the tournament in June 2023 at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Tanner has been in New York with Clark all weekend and even shared some of her U.S. Open looks on Instagram.

Following Saturday's third round, Tanner took to her Instagram Stories to praise Clark, who dominated the course. She shared a picture of the leaderboard ahead of day 3, and a video of Clark walking the course at sunset. Tanner also shared a still photo of Clark toward the end of the day with the caption "Proud x 1000000."

Tanner, a Los Angeles based influencer and the co-founder of the Over Social Agency, hasn't been shy about putting her relationship on display since she and Clark went public with their romance. She's shared plenty of photos and videos of Clark and has openly supported him as he does what he loves—and this weekend is no different.

"I couldn’t be more proud of you, my cutie cowboy @wyndhamclark," she captioned an Instagram post in May.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Clark has become one of the biggest names in the sport, and a win at the U.S. Open would further cement his place among golf’s elite. For now, the golfer has his sights set on finishing the tournament strong—with Tanner supporting him every step of the way.

Jennifer Coolidge's portrayal of the beloved Paulette Bonafonté is arguably one of the actress' most iconic roles. However, the star has revealed that she faced a hilarious mix-up at her Legally Blondeaudition.

The Golden Globe-winning actress thought she was auditioning for the lead role of Elle Woods.

"Well, you know, I forgot that when we first started filming, I was only 17 years old,” she joked during Prime Video’s Elle World, which took place on June 20. “No, I was, and so I just can’t believe it. All this time has gone by.”

She continued, “No, but I do wanna say this, because I thought this was the funniest thing. I was so lucky to get cast in this movie, and it is one of my favorite jobs of all time, but I stupidly thought that when I was auditioning, I thought I was gonna be Elle.”

The lead role ultimately went to toReese Witherspoon, who was also present at the panel. Hosted at Hall des Lumières in New York City, the panel was just one part of an immersive fan experience that celebrated the fan-favorite 2001 movie's 25th anniversary along with the forthcoming Prime Video prequel series, Elle.

Also in attendance were Coolidge and Witherspoon's co-stars Ali Larter, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, and Victor Garber.

Elle will premiere on July 1 and stars Lexi Minetree as a younger version of Witherspoon's character. The much-anticipated series was first announced on May 14, 2024 and in Feb. 2025, Witherspoon passed the Elle Woods torch to Minetree.

In the later years of his career, music legend Johnny Cashpenned what is considered to be one of his most powerful songs.

"The Man Comes Around" was released on Nov. 5, 2002. The title track to his 67th studio album, American IV: The Man Comes Around, which was also the final album to be released prior to his death in Sept. 2003.

Centering heavily around Christianity and faith, it is reported that the song was inspired by a dream of Cash's, where he was in Buckingham Palace alongside Queen Elizabeth II.

"There [the Queen] sat on the floor, and she looked up at me and said, 'Johnny Cash, you’re like a thorn tree in a whirlwind,'" the musician recalled in a 2002 interview with broadcasterLarry King. "I woke up and thought, 'What could a dream like this mean?' I forgot about it for two or three years, but it kept haunting me. I kept thinking about how vivid it was. I thought maybe it was biblical."

The bizarre dream prompted Cash to write "The Man Comes Around," but it wasn't a track that came easily. In fact, it took the singer several months to create the hit.

"It took me nine months to write it,” he explained in an interview, per Far Out. "I wrote verse after verse, probably 25 or 30 verses, before I was satisfied with the verses I wanted to use in the song. It’s the first time I’ve ever overwritten a song, but I felt like it was necessary."

However, the long writing process paid off, as "The Man Comes Around" became a career-defining song. The titular song helped to earn American IV: The Man Comes Around a place in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, published by Universal Publishing in 2005.

The track enjoyed a considerable amount of commercial success, placing at No. 19 on the Official Physical Singles Chart in the U.K. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

Bündchen, 45, shared a tribute on Instagram on Sunday, June 21, honoring her husband Joaquim Valente—father of her 1-year-old son—and her own father, Valdir Bündchen.

Noticeably absent was Brady, her former husband of 13 years, with whom she shares two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13. Bündchen was also stepmother to Brady’s son Jack, whose mother is actress Bridget Moynahan.

Saturday Night Livestar Sarah Sherman has told People the amusing yet hairraising story of when she met Paul McCartney.

Sarah had previously mentioned that her trademark mullet hairstyle reminded her of look McCartney sported in his youth. So when The Beatles singer appeared on SNL in May 16 with Will Ferrell, he made a comment to the comedian about her style.

"So, basically I was doing a bit talking about how I have his mullet from his Wings era," she said during the 5th Annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards at the United Theater in Los Angeles on May 30. "And so he came up to me after the show and he pulled up my mullet and he was like, 'Is it real or is it a wig?' "

"And I said, 'It's real, Paul,' " the SNL funny lady explained. "And then, I was like, 'Paul McCartney, I love you, you're amazing. Like, McCartney II is my favorite album ever, and 'Temporary Secretary' is my favorite song.' And then I was like, 'I'm sorry I'm complimenting you so much.' And he said, 'I love adulation. Sarah Sherman has told the story before, recounting the moment on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! "And so, he came up to me at the goodnights, like when we're all bowing or whatever," she told the late night hot. "He said, 'Sarah,' and he knew my name, brag. He pulled on my mullet tails."

The first entry in Allen’s Into the Darkness trilogy, the novel follows Aly Cappellucci, an overworked trauma nurse who decompresses with social media. When she haphazardly sends a dirty screenshot of the masked influencer she’s crushing on to the wrong number, a kinky game of cat-and-mouse unfolds.
