Netflix Has a Stars Hollow Category After Losing 'Gilmore Girls'

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 11:45am

The Gilmore Girls fandom grew while it was available to stream on Netflix. The platform managed to bring back the cast to release four new episodes with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016.

Sadly, the original show leaves Netflix on June 30. But there is a category of shows that will be available that claims to be similar to the hit show.

Netflix Shows Similar to 'Gilmore Girls'

Netflix

Gilmore Girls follows Lorelai (Lauren Graham) raising Rory (Alexis Bledel) in a small town called Stars Hollow. She agrees to have weekly family dinners with her estranged parents, Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Hermann), in exchange for them paying for Rory's private school tuition.

Netflix is known for suggesting more shows and movies based on what you've already watched. There is a category called, "That Stars Hollow State of Mind" with TV shows that the platform believes are similar to the sitcom.

The shows in the category are:

Some of the shows unsurprisingly, focus on a mother and daughter, or two strong women. North of North focuses on a young Inuk mother who was raised by a single mother. What I Like About You focuses on two sisters living together. Ginny & Georgia was marketed to be similar to the Gilmore Girls except the mother and daughter have a murderous past.

Other shows are more focused on young romance, such as Dawson's Creek, Gossip Girl, and Never Have I Ever. But other titles fit because of their snappy comedy like Mike & Molly, Atypical, and Young Sheldon.

How to Watch 'Gilmore Girls'

Warner Bros.

Fans of the WB show can still stream it in other ways. Gilmore Girls will be available on Disney+ and Hulu. However, this is a major change for Netflix subscribers and they're making it known that they're not happy.

Netflix's Instagram account shared a clip of Outlast: The Jungle. The comments are about the sitcom instead of the reality show.

"Netflix I know you reading these comments , bring back Gilmore [Girls] or you’re losing a very good paying customer," a most-liked comment reads.

"No more Gilmore Girls or Seinfeld? Those are the only reasons I subscribed," another person wrote.

"Bye bye, [Reba] now [Gilmore Girls]. Seriously what are you doing??? Already unsubscribed," a commenter complained.

Fans have the rest of June to enjoy the mother-daughter show on Netflix. After that, this Star Hollow category aims to fill the void.

This 1972 Space-Inspired Pop Song Became One of NASA's Most-Played Wake-Up Songs

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 11:38am

Long before streaming playlists existed, NASA had already figured out the power of a great morning song. Wake-up calls date back to the Gemini program in the 1960s, when mission controllers began using music to greet crews at the start of a new day in orbit. Family members, friends, and even celebrities have selected songs for individual astronauts over the decades — but few songs found their way back into space as often as this 1972 Elton John classic.

The Song That Was Always Going to End Up in Space

View the original article to see embedded media.

"Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long, Long Time)" was released in March 1972 as the lead single from John's album Honky Château. Written by John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, the song was itself inspired by Ray Bradbury's short story "The Rocket Man" — a tale about an astronaut whose work keeps pulling him away from the family he loves. That tension between duty and longing, ambition and home, rocketed the emotional song beyond the charts and into space.

According to NASA records, "Rocket Man" was played to wake up at least four shuttle crews aboard Discovery and Atlantis across the Space Shuttle program's history — more than almost any other song in the tradition. By the time the Space Shuttle program was nearing its end, the pop-rock ballad had become one of NASA's most recognizable musical choices.

The song's most memorable NASA moment came on July 13, 2011, during STS-135 — the final flight of the Space Shuttle program and the closeout of 30 years of missions. As Commander Christopher Ferguson, Pilot Douglas Hurley, Mission Specialist Sandra (Sandy) Magnus, and Mission Specialist Rex Walheim began their sixth day in orbit on Atlantis, mission controllers played "Rocket Man" followed by a personal message from Elton John himself.

"Good morning Atlantis, this is Elton John," he said. "We wish you much success on your mission. A huge thank you to all the men and women at NASA who worked on the shuttle for the last three decades."

How a 1972 Pop Song Became Part of Space History

Few songs have traveled a more fitting path than "Rocket Man." Written during the height of the Space Age, the 1972 hit eventually accompanied astronauts aboard Discovery and Atlantis, spanning nearly three decades of Space Shuttle history.

Although sound can't move through the vacuum of space, Elton John's classic crossed that cosmic boundary countless times, becoming part of a uniquely human tradition: bringing the music, memories, and comforts of Earth to astronauts.

A Legendary 60s Rock Band Just Announced a Surprise New Single

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 11:37am

A legendary British rock band that defined the 1960s and somehow never really stopped reinventing themselves is back with new music.

The Rolling Stones have announced a brand-new single, "Jealous Lover," arriving June 26, 2026.

It’s the latest preview of their upcoming studio album Foreign Tongues, due out July 10 via Capitol Records. The song is already shaping up to be another reminder that longevity doesn’t have to mean standing still.

Following the punchy, upbeat energy of earlier release "In the Stars," the new track shifts gears into something smoother and more sultry.

"Jealous Lover" leans into a soulful R&B groove, built around a warm, hypnotic rhythm and a vocal performance that finds Mick Jagger slipping into a striking falsetto as he delivers the song’s pointed lyrical narrative.

At its core, the track plays like a knowing exchange between charm and suspicion. Jagger, 82, narrates a playful but cutting warning to a partner whose curiosity might be getting out of hand. It’s delivered with the kind of wit and attitude that has long defined the band’s storytelling style, where humor and tension often sit side by side.

Musically, the song thrives on texture and interplay. Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood weave together guitar lines that feel loose but intentional, locking into a groove that never overstays its welcome.

The rhythm section—Darryl Jones on bass and Steve Jordan on drums—anchors everything with a steady, deeply felt pulse. Longtime collaborator Steve Winwood adds rich Rhodes and organ layers, while additional touches from producer Andrew Watt and keyboardist Matt Clifford round out the track’s warm, analog feel.

"Jealous Lover" doesn’t try to chase trends or recreate past eras. It simply slides into a space the group has been refining for years: blues, rock, soul and swagger, all filtered through a modern studio lens.

‘90s Heavy Rock Band Announces 2026 Tour With New Lineup

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 11:36am

Metal legends Sleep are wide awake in 2026. The band is dropping their first new music in eight years and hitting the road across North America — all with a completely new lineup.

"Have Spacesuit Will Travel" marks Sleep's first release since 2018's The Sciences. Notably, it's also the first without founding guitarist Matt Pike. The band’s current lineup is led by bassist and primary songwriter Al Cisneros, who is joined by guitarist Bubba Dupree and drummer Dale Crover

The group addressed the change in a press release, with Cisneros saying he "wishes Matt the best on his earth-bound maneuvers," while assuring fans that "the music and art are alive after the decades of obstacles that Sleep has overcome."

View this post on Instagram

Pike isn't the only one who's out. Drummer Jason Roeder revealed in spring 2025 that he'd been "unceremoniously" fired and had since lost contact with both remaining members.

What exactly happened with Pike is less clear. Outside of the press release, there's been little said, despite him hinting at upcoming Sleep plans as recently as March 2024.

The band originally ran from 1990 to 1998, reunited from 2009 to 2019, and returned briefly for shows in 2021 and 2022.

At least musically, nothing has changed. “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” is out now on Jack White’s Third Man Records and brings back Sleep’s signature heavy sound. The new trio says they are “composing in the spirit of that which had been established so long ago.”

On the road, the band has two North American legs lined up for this fall. The first runs throughout September, hitting San Diego, Austin, Boise, Seattle and more before wrapping in Santa Ana.

Sleep then returns in early November for the second leg, with dates in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia and Brooklyn, among others.

The oversized design measures nearly 43 inches wide and long, which is comparable to a loveseat. It offers plenty of space for two adults to lounge comfortably without the structure sagging or losing shape.

Ergonomically designed to support the arms, neck, and back, this cozy cloud chair features integrated armrests and a high backrest with three adjustable pillows. Luxe corduroy upholstery covers the entire surface and can be spot cleaned when needed.

Weighing 550 pounds, some customers noted that this bean bag sofa can be cumbersome to move. However, even those who struggled to reposition it praised its comfort. Delivered in compressed packaging, simply unbox it wherever you’d like it to stay and allow it to expand fully over the next 48 to 72 hours.

Shoppers said this "fluffy" oversized cloud chair feels "like a big hug." One reviewer called it the "best spot in the house" and said it's "perfect for reading or just relaxing."

Sharon Osbourne Misses Ozzy Statue Unveiling Due to 'Unexpected' Hospital Trip

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 11:23am

Sharon Osbourne shared this week that she won't be attending the latest tribute to her husband, Ozzy Osbourne.

"I’m sorry I couldn’t be at Hellfest for the unveiling of Ozzy’s statue. Unfortunately I had an unexpected trip to the hospital earlier in the week," she captioned an Instagram video, which featured the statue. Sharon also thanked the the project's creator, Philippe Pasqua, "for the absolutely stunning statue!"

While she didn't disclose why she went to the hospital, well-wishers, and fans impressed by the statue, took to the comment section of her post.

"Hope you are feeling much much much better now," one wrote.

"What [an] awesome statue of Ozzy! Hope you are feeling better and it’s nothing serious!" added another.

"Hope you’re doing ok," said a third. "We love you Sharon!!!!!!! Such a beautiful statue!"

Though the longtime TV personality, 73, hasn't shared any health updates as of late, her significant weight loss due to Ozempic has sparked concern among fans over the past year.

Hellfest, a heavy metal festival taking place in Clisson, France from June 18-21, has the statue on display already, according to the festival's website, with the unveiling slated to take place on Thursday.

Sharon, who previously spoke about the statue during a panel discussion at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, intended on being there for the official reveal.

"The whole family will be there to see it," she said, according to EuroNews. "And it’s such a great tribute. It’s amazing.”

Ozzy's six-meter-tall statue at the France festival joins the sculpture of Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister, which was unveiled in 2022.

The Black Sabbath frontman, who was suffering from Parkinson's, ultimately died at age 76, of a heart attack in July of 2025. His death came just weeks after he appeared at his epic tribute show that included performance by Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, Lucy Hale, Axl Rose, andTravis Barker, and took place in his hometown Birmingham, England.

"Hope your ok, and we need this in Birmingham," another fan noted of wanting a permanent memorial there.

How Rich Is Sam Worthington From the 'Avatar' Movies? Find Out His Net Worth in 2026

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:58am

It should come as no surprise that Sam Worthington is a very rich man—his breakout role was in Avatar, a movie that made $2.9 billion at the box office when it came out in 2009. He’s since starred in two sequels (so far), Avatar: The Way of the Water (2022) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), and blockbusters like Terminator Salvation (2009), Clash of the Titans (2010) and Wrath of the Titans (2012).

But for all the money he’s made off tentpoles, Worthington now shies away from the sort of blockbuster roles that defined his early career (save for the Avatar sequels, of course).

“The movies that I did right after Avatar were great big spectacles, but I should have been looking for movies that pried a little bit more into the human condition,” he told Variety in 2022. “I was boring myself with what I was doing. And if I’m boring myself, then I’m sure as hell going to be boring an audience.”

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

These days, the Aussie actor is careful to choose parts that allow him to be more than “the action figure standing in the front,” he said. He's played a WWII Army captain in Hacksaw Ridge, a fundamentalist Mormon in Under the Banner of Heaven, a U.S. Army Lieutenant in Horizon: An American Saga and, currently, an innocent father serving a life sentence for the murder of his son in the new Netflix limited series I Will Find You

“If I can’t bring anything to [a project], I’m not going to go and be involved in it,” he told Variety. “I don’t want to do that again. … And that’s OK. It takes a lot to understand what you do want from this industry.” And it certainly helps to have Pandora money.

Keep reading to learn more about how Worthington got his start and the net worth he's earned along the way.

How did Sam Worthington get his start?

Worthington grew up in Warnbro, a working-class suburb of Perth, Western Australia, the son of a homemaker and a power plant employee. He attended John Curtin College of the Arts in Fremantle, initially enrolling in drama classes to meet girls, but dropped out before graduating.

His father gave him $400 and a one-way ticket to the opposite side of the country, telling him, “Work your way back home and grow up a bit,” Worthington once recalled

"I didn't know what to do with my life, and my dad didn't want me sitting around watching TV, and wasting this precious gift."

Worthington was 19 and working as a bricklayer in Sydney when he auditioned for the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), earning a scholarship and graduating in 1998.

He found success in Australia with roles in the 2004 movie Somersault and the TV series Love My Way, but became an international star for his turn as Jake Sully in Avatar.

Was Avatar Sam Worthington’s breakout role?

Yes, and if it were helmed by anyone other than James Cameron, he may not have gotten it. When he auditioned for the movie, he was so frustrated by the secrecy surrounding the project, including who was directing it, that he refused to read his lines and instead spit at the camera.

“I was just angry,” he told Variety. “It was like, ‘You’re not telling me anything. This is a waste of time.’ Later, when they were like, ‘Jim Cameron wants to meet you, and this was for his movie,’ I was just like, ‘Oh sh-t, I’m going to get in trouble.’”

But Cameron was sold. “I saw a lot of actors, names you’d be quite impressed by. But Sam was the guy who made me want to follow him into battle.”

Related: Sam Worthington: 'James Cameron and I Had a Love-Hate Relationship'

What is Sam Worthington’s net worth in 2026?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the Man on a Ledge actor is worth $60 million, a sum that comes mostly from his lead role in the Avatar movies.

How much did Sam Worthington make off Avatar?

Officially, Worthington's salary for the original Avatar is anyone's guess. Some sites estimate that he was paid $10 million upfront, but that seems unlikely since he was an unknown actor in the United States at the time. That said, if his agent negotiated as little as 1% of the backend, he’d have made $29 million off the box-office alone.

Matt Damon has claimed over the years that he had to turn down a lucrative deal to play Sully because he was committed to the Bourne movies at the time, joking that he lost out on $290 million—and therefore implying that he’d have gotten 10% of the backend. But Cameron himself shot down the Good Will Hunting actor’s report.

“Now what he’s done is he’s extrapolated, ‘I get 10 percent of the gross on all my films,’” Cameron said. “And if, in his mind, that’s what it would’ve taken for him to do Avatar, then it wouldn’t have happened. Trust me on that.”

It’s safe to say, then, that Worthington didn’t get 10% on the backend.

How much did Sam Worthington make for Avatar: The Way of Water?

Worthington's salary hasn't been independently confirmed by him or the studio, but several sites claim he was paid $10 million upfront with a lucrative 5% share of the film's profits or gross participation. Because the movie earned more than $2.3 billion worldwide, Worthington’s total compensation could have reached roughly $110 million.

What was Sam Worthington's salary for Avatar: Fire and Ash?

Unofficial reports and industry speculation suggest that his base salary may have increased to approximately $12 million to $15 million for the third film, likely with another backend participation deal attached.

What was Sam Worthington paid for Terminator Salvation?

Unsubstantiated reports put Worthington’s upfront earnings at $1 million. The movie grossed just over $370 million, so if he negotiated, say, 5% on the backend, he’d have raked in an additional $18.5 million.

What did Sam Worthington make for the Clash of the Titans movies?

Worthington's salary for 2010's Clash of the Titans has not been officially disclosed, but estimates place his earnings at between $5 million and $7 million after the success of Avatar. His pay may have increased for the 2012 sequel, Wrath of the Titans, but his standing with producers certainly didn't. According to Worthington himself, he made some decisions that caused a creative rift.

“I looked at it as [my character' was half a god and half a dad, and he had decided that he didn’t want the god part anymore,” Worthington told Variety. “So I decided to develop a dad bod and that I wouldn’t care what I looked like. Of course, that’s antithetical to what a studio wants when they pay X amount of dollars to make a movie about a chiseled hero. My arrogance clashed with the studio and the director’s vision, and it turned into a horrible fight.”

What has Sam Worthington been in besides the Avatar movies?

Short answer: a lot. His films include Terminator Salvation, Clash of the Titans, Everest, Hacksaw Ridge and Horizon: An American Saga and he’s starred in TV series like ManhuntUnder the Banner of Heaven and most recently, I Will Find You

Is Sam Worthington going to be in more Avatar movies?

If all goes as planned, Avatar 4 and 5 will arrive in theaters in 2029 and 2031, respectively, and Worthington will dutifully reprise his role for both. “That man changed my life,” he said, referencing Cameron. “If the boss says, ‘jump’, I jump. I’m his soldier, man.”

Emma Heming Willis Turns 50 With a Heartbreaking Tribute to Bruce Willis Amid FTD Battle

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:52am

Emma Heming Willis marked her 50th birthday with a joyful throwback video of husband Bruce Willisfrom a time when life felt a little lighter.

As she reflected on entering a new decade, Emma admitted the last 10 years have been "heavy" as the couple navigated Bruce’s frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which he was diagnosed with in 2023 after initially being diagnosed with aphasia the year before.

Emma captioned her post alongside a sweet video of Bruce, 71, singing " Happy Birthday " into a helium balloon. "Today is my big 5-0. And I have to say, I’m ready for this new decade and all it has to offer," she wrote. "My 40s were heavy, yet I’m proud of how far I’ve come as a wife, mom, care partner, and advocate."

View this post on Instagram

She continued, "I’m also proud of the work we’re doing through the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund and what lies ahead. Together, we’re raising awareness of FTD, supporting caregivers, and advancing education and research. As I step into this next chapter, my birthday wish is for a future where families facing dementia have more support, resources, less stigma, and every reason to hold onto hope. If you’d like to celebrate this milestone with me, please consider supporting the Fund." The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund works to confront frontotemporal dementia by raising awareness, funding promising research, and supporting caregivers.

Only a few days ago, Emma addressed a big misconception about her husband's diagnosis. “When people say, ‘Oh, you know, does he remember who you are?’ Well, he does because he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s; he has FTD,” she shared on The Bosstickspodcast. “I think that’s a very common misconception that, when you think of dementia, we think of memory loss.”

She added, “I think what you experience with any form of dementia is it just takes. You know, these diseases, they take, and they take, and they take—sometimes very slowly—and you are grieving different losses all the time. So you are consistently in grief.”

The couple shares two daughters, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12. Bruce also has three adult daughters with his ex-wife, actress Demi Moore.

Additionally, the low edges allow you to see everything stored within them at a glance.

You can use these trays to streamline beauty products and small towels in your bathroom, produce and spices in your kitchen, and remotes and books in your living room.  If you tend to misplace your keys and wallet, you can place one tray by your front door so you have a designated spot for your essentials whenever you come home. Alternatively, you can use these trays to display decor pieces and plants on your coffee table, dining table, or console, creating a focal point in your space.

One reviewer said that these trays are great for “organization.” Another reviewer said that they’re “beautifully made and sturdy,” and a third customer described them as "beautiful and gorgeous.”

Showrunner Ryan Condal Drops a Major Bombshell on the Final Season of 'House of the Dragon': 'We’re as Far Ahead as We’ve Ever Been'

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:32am

House of the Dragon Season 3 hasn’t even premiered yet, and eyes are already on the fourth and final season. Showrunner Ryan Condal has an exciting update, as he talks about where he and the team are in the writing process.

House of the Dragon Season 4 is officially confirmed as the final season of the series, based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. The Game of Thrones author is no longer involved in the creative process of the series, as House of the Dragon changed the book storyline substantially. However, viewers are still excited to see how the story comes to an end.

During a recent press conference, Condal shared that he and the team are “actively writing” the fourth season. They’ve even started to “turn drafts over to HBO.”

However, this is early. Condal keeps saying that they are “as far ahead as we’ve ever been at this point in crafting a new season.” The writing process will continue until HBO takes the scripts and pushes for the production stage. At the same time, the post-production team is still doing work on House of the Dragon Season 3, which premieres on June 21, 2026.

What does this mean for the premiere of the final season of the Game of Thrones prequel? That’s to be determined. HBO still has this series slated for the 2028 schedule, confirming the two-year turnaround time between seasons. It makes sense considering the graphics that are needed for the creation of the dragons.

That doesn’t mean fans will be without a show in the universe at all. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, which is set around the middle of the time between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, is still slated for a 2027 release.

There is a lot of noise about the series right now, with many viewers disappointed in the storytelling during the second season. Condal is tuning out all of that noise to focus on the four-act story he and his team want to tell.

However, he does understand the frustration when it comes to the wait, and he makes it clear that an earlier than a 2028 release date for House of the Dragon Season 4 likely isn’t going to happen. It takes a year to film and “then it takes seven-eight months to make dragons,” and that means the math doesn’t math to bring one season a year.

For now, viewers will want to get ready for the third season, which is kicking off with the highly anticipated “Battle of the Gullet” from the Fire & Blood story. There is already positive praise from critics who have seen the early screeners.

Happy birthday, Ken! Sixty-five never looked so good.

Now, as part of the unique celebration, Ken is teaming up with Grammy-nominated DJ Steve Aoki for a fashion collaboration that imagines what happens "when Ken steps behind the decks."

Beginning Thursday, June 18, the limited-edition Ken x Dim Mak collection blends Ken’s playful legacy with Dim Mak’s streetwear and electronic music roots, reimagining Ken’s 65th anniversary through the lens of Dim Mak — which was founded by Aoki, 48.

Kelly Ripa Says It May Be Time To ‘Get off the Air’ for a Relatable Reason

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:30am

Kelly Ripa may have found the young slang that finally made her question her future on daytime TV.

This morning, on the June 18 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa and Mark Consuelos discussed slang terms used by younger people, including "glazing" and "aura farming."

Ripa said their son had used one of the terms before, but that did not mean she understood it.

Kelly Ripa Tried to Understand "Glazing"

Consuelos joked that it's a verb and explained that "glazing" refers to someone who gives too many compliments.

He continued explaining, "They criticize someone who is being overly complimentary, especially if it feels disingenuous."

"It's referred to someone who keeps handing out compliments," Consuelos said. "They're glazing someone."

"I promised myself I would get off the air when I started not knowing things," Ripa responded.

The Audience Helped Explain It NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 9: (L-R) Mark Consuelos, Kelly Ripa and Joaquin Consuelos pose at the opening night after party for the new revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" on Broadway at Katz's Deli on April 9, 2026 in New York City.

Ripa and Consuelos then turned to the audience for help.

"Does anybody use the word glaze here?" Consuelos asked.

He called on a younger audience member who seemed to know what the terms meant.

The hosts then tried to clarify whether "glazing" was more of a compliment or a critique.

Consuelos tested out an example, saying, "So, like, a friend is talking to some other guy, some girl, and all of a sudden, the girl walks away, and you're like, 'Dude, why are you glazing that girl so much?'"

The young audience member confirmed they had the right idea.

"Aura Farming" Was Another Challenge

The hosts also tried to understand "aura farming."

"And what is aura farming?" Ripa asked.

Consuelos said that it might mean trying to get people to "glaze" you.

"Aura farming is when you, like, try to get attention, positive attention, is that right?" he asked.

The audience member helped clarify that it is more about trying to look cool in front of people.

Ripa and Consuelos then started using more slang, including "cap," "fam," and "gang."

Some attempts went better than others.

Kelly and Mark Turned It Into an Audience Moment

The slang lesson eventually became a full audience interaction.

Consuelos teased the audience member for not wanting to be one of the show's dancers, only to end up part of the show anyway.

"You didn't think you were going to be on the show," he joked.

1955 Classic, Once 'Detested' by this Country Legend, Became a Timeless Anthem

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:27am

Not every artist loves their biggest hit. Faron Young certainly didn't — at least not at first.

On June 18, 1955, "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young," the song he'd been forced to record, hit No. 1 and changed the course of his career.

It was another win for the country star, who was already proving himself on the charts. "Goin' Steady" had gotten him to No. 2 in 1952, and three more top tens followed.

His label had a habit of seeing potential in songs he wasn’t always sold on, and once again, they proved they knew what they were doing.

Related: 1965 Motown Classic, Once Mocked as ‘No-Hit,’ Became Part of Chart History 61 Years Ago

"Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young" spent three weeks at No. 1. Funny enough, the song's origin had nothing to do with country music

Songwriter Joe Allison drew his inspiration from the 1949 film Knock on Any Door, starring JohnDerek and Humphrey Bogart. In it, Derek's character Nick Romano lives by the motto "Live fast, die young, and leave a good-looking corpse."

Allison took the line and wrote a song around it, which would go on to become the biggest hit of Young's career.

Two decades later, Young opened up about his initial resistance on The Ralph Emery Show.

“This was a tune that I detested,” he admitted. “Ken Nelson made me record this. He was my A&R man back then. I put it out, and it was a big, big hit. Then I got to liking it, especially when the check came in.”

Young noted that "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young" wasn't all that different from two of his other early hits — "If You Ain't Lovin' You Ain't Livin'" and "I've Got Five Dollars and It's Saturday Night.” Pretty much the same formula, he said, and it had worked every time.

Related: 1963 Folk Classic, Banned by Some Radio Stations, Became a Generational Anthem

By the time Young sat down with Emery, he had 70 top ten hits. When asked how he'd managed to stay relevant for so long, he explained, “One thing I've done is I work at this as a business. I try to keep up with the times."

But keeping up with the times became increasingly difficult, and Young's offstage behavior was making things worse.

In 1972, Young was accused of spanking an audience member at a Clarksburg, West Virginia show. He claimed she spat on him first, paid a $24 fine and moved on — but the incident left a stain on his public image.

Mercury Records, his label since the early 1960s, dropped him in 1978 when his albums and singles stopped performing. A deal with MCA Records in 1979 lasted just two years and two albums before that door closed too. Commercially speaking, Young's career was finished.

His personal life was deteriorating at the same time. In 1984, he fired a pistol into the ceiling of his kitchen, alarming his wife, Hilda Macon. The "Hillbilly Heartthrob" nickname felt like it belonged to a different person entirely by then. Two years later, in 1986, he and his wife divorced after 32 years of marriage.

Young made one final push with Step One Records in 1988, releasing a handful of albums, including a Christmas record and a duet project with fellow country legend Ray Price. But by that time, it was too little, too late.

Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Clint Black and Travis Tritt had taken country music in a new direction, and there wasn't much room left for the generation that came before them.

Feeling overlooked by the new scene, Young withdrew from public life. He had helped build country music into what it was, and felt the industry had moved on without him.

On December 9, 1996, as his health worsened and his career continued to decline, Young died by suicide. In a note he left behind, he pointed to both his failing health and his sense of being abandoned by the country music world.

Chobani’s New Creamer Flavor Combines 2 Nostalgic Favorites—and It’s Here to Stay

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:27am

It's a great week to be a Chobani fan!

Yesterday, Parade confirmed that the brand had launched a massive 52-ounce carton of an all-new Pistachio Chocolate creamer exclusively at Costco. Today, we're bringing you insights into another new release that's heading to stores nationwide—and this one is heading out on a much larger scale (and permanently).

Joining its growing lineup of sugar-free coffee creamers is Chobani's brand-new Zero Sugar Vanilla Cinnamon-flavored creamer.

Chobani Launches New Zero Sugar Creamer Flavor: Vanilla Cinnamon

Inspired by "nostalgic flavors" that fans apparently can't get enough of, Chobani's new Zero Sugar Vanilla Cinnamon coffee creamer is made with "farm-fresh cream and real milk, 0g sugar, no artificial ingredients, sweeteners, or preservatives," according to an official description shared in an email with Parade.

Related: Chobani’s ‘Most-Loved’ Coffee Creamer Flavor Is Officially Back for a Limited Time

Although an ingredient list wasn't immediately available, assuming Chobani uses the same recipe as for the other two flavors in its Zero Sugar line (Salted Caramel and Sweet Cream), the company relies on stevia extract and allulose—a natural sugar we can't metabolize—to sweeten and add flavor. Which, in theory, should make it much easier to digest than sugar-free creamers made with certain artificial sweeteners that have been linked to stomach upset.

How Long Will the New Sugar-Free Creamer Be Available?

While an exact launch date wasn't shared, the rollout appears to be underway, and once the flavor hits shelves, fans won't have to worry about it disappearing as they do with its Flavor Drop collection (which current offers include the aforementioned Pistachio Chocolate creamer and an unexpected American Blueberry flavor), as we're told it's heading out permanently.

A rep for Chobani said its new Zero Sugar Vanilla Cinnamon Creamer is not exclusive to any one store and it's expected to be available at retailers nationwide, including Target, Walmart, and Publix, in the coming weeks.

Lost 1964 Recording Finally Reaches the Billboard Charts 62 Years Later

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:07am

More than 60 years after it was recorded and nearly 62 years after the death of legendary entertainer Harpo Marx, a long-lost live performance has found an unexpected new audience.

According to Billboard's Chart Beat column, Harpo Speaks!: The Riverside Symphony Concert debuts at No. 6 on the Traditional Classical Albums chart and No. 25 on the Classical Albums chart dated June 20.

The album was recorded on March 20, 1964, during a benefit concert with the Riverside Symphony in Southern California. The performance would become one of the most remarkable moments of Marx's career. Best known as the silent member of the Marx Brothers, Harpo shocked the audience by speaking publicly, narrating Sergei Prokofiev'sPeter and the Wolf.

"Believe it or not, I'm going to talk!" Marx reportedly announced to the crowd, drawing gasps of surprise.

The recording is especially significant because it contains what is considered the only official recording of Harpo's speaking voice. Though millions knew him through films, television appearances, and stage performances, the comedian carefully protected the silent persona that made him famous.

The March 1964 appearance also proved historic for another reason. It marked Harpo's final public musical performance. He had suffered multiple heart attacks and was largely retired from public life. Just six months after the concert, he died at age 75 following complications from heart surgery.

For decades, the recording was believed lost.

The tapes resurfaced only recently after longtime Marx Brothers archivist John Tefteller discovered them in a mislabeled box while searching through recordings from another performance. Tefteller and Marx Brothers biographer Robert S. Bader then worked to restore the audio.

"The fact that we have a recording is a miracle," Bader said in a statement announcing the release. "The work that was done to rehabilitate it is stunning. It's as if you've found something covered with layers of mold and dirt, got it all cleaned off, and now are able to see something brand new underneath it."

Harpo's son, Bill Marx, also reflected on the release, saying, "To have this recording be released and let people hear it is an honor. Dad didn't really want people to know what he sounded like because it would have destroyed the character of Harpo that he created."

He added that the album allows listeners to appreciate more than just Harpo's famous comedy persona.

"I think, now, he would accept this graciously and gratefully because it goes beyond just seeing a guy being funny," Bill Marx said. "It goes to the heart of what life is about: Doing what you love and doing it the best you can."

Released on June 8 by Ramseur Records, Harpo Speaks!: The Riverside Symphony Concert features Harpo performing and guest conducting alongside the orchestra, including a rendition of Peter and the Wolf, a "Moon Medley" arranged by Bill Marx, and a rare instrumental performance of Harpo's own composition, "Guardian Angels."

More than six decades after the concert took place, the recording has accomplished something few could have imagined: turning a nearly forgotten piece of entertainment history into a brand-new Billboard chart success.

'Queen of Country Rock' Became a Hitmaking Powerhouse That Defined a Generation of Music

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:05am

The “Queen of Country Rock” built a career filled with hit singles that helped shape the sound of a generation and cement her lasting legacy in music history.

According to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Linda Ronstadt is often referred to by the nickname "The Queen of Country Rock." The title underscores her impact on country rock and her enduring legacy as a trailblazing artist.

Ronstadt had 10 songs in the Billboard Country Top 10 from 1974 through 1988. Her longest-charting No. 1 is a cover of 1987's "To Know Him is to Love Him" alongside Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Also a No. 1 hit is 1975's "When Will I Be Loved."

Following, the singer hit No. 2 with "Blue Bayou" in 1977 and "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" in 1974. She ranked No. 3 with another collaboration with Parton and Harris, 1987's "Those Memories of You." In succession are "Love is a Rose" (1975), "Wildflowers" (1988), "Crazy" (1976), and "I Never Will Marry" (1978), which round out her Top 10 hits.

The Country Music Hall of Fame wrote, "In the 1970s, Linda earned the nickname 'Queen of Country-Rock' for her country-rock music. Later in her career, she leaned into her Mexican heritage and released albums of Spanish-language music that she grew up hearing from her father. The versatility and talent shown by Linda have cemented her as one of the most successful and influential vocalists of our time."

According to American Songwriter, Ronstadt's 1969 album, Hand Sown … Home Grown, is considered "the very first alternative country album to be released by a woman."

Ronstadt's 1974 breakthrough LP Heart Like a Wheel cemented her place in music history. Around the same time, she also worked closely with future members of The Eagles, who went on to become one of the decade’s biggest bands in their own right. She would eventually put her own spin on their 1973 hit "Desperado."

In an interview with ROUTE Magazine, Ronstadt recalled her first big hit, "Different Drum" with The Stone Poneys. The song was written by Monkees member Michael Nesmith.

"I had first heard it as a bluegrass song on a Greenbriar Boys album and just thought that it was a hit song. So, we recorded it, but it wasn’t the song that it could be," she explained.

"So, the record company said that they wanted to recut it. They recut it with the strings and harpsichord, and I was fairly horrified. I went, 'We can’t do this!' But it was a hit. I was wrong."

In 1978, The New York Times writer Ed Ward named Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Stevie Nicks as the Queens of Rock. She responded, "All I've done in my music is acknowledge that I've been hurt. I've been crippled, but I'm still walking."

Additionally, she told ROUTE that it still surprised her how much her music resonated with listeners. She replied, "Well, it wasn’t something that I was trying to do. I was just trying to find songs that I could sing."

Linda Ronstadt retired from the music business in 2011, bringing an end to a remarkable run of chart successes. Yet her catalog remains a beloved part of the American songbook, as her music continues to resonate with listeners decades later.

Elton John's 1971’s Hit Is the Most Misheard Song Ever

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:03am

Elton John is widely celebrated as one of the defining voices of modern pop and rock music, but he also holds a more unusual distinction: he is the most frequently misheard artist of all time in our analysis.

Across his extensive catalog, there have been 2,569 reported misheard lyrics, a striking figure that reflects both the reach of his music and the way listeners interpret his famously layered vocal delivery and theatrical production style.

Emerging to global fame in the early 1970s, John, 79, built a career on emotionally rich storytelling, distinctive piano-driven arrangements, and lyrics often delivered with dramatic phrasing.

Songs like "Rocket Man," "Your Song" and "Bennie and the Jets" became cultural staples, played across radio, film, and television for decades. That widespread exposure has helped cement his status as a generational artist, but it has also contributed to a surprising byproduct: a vast collection of mondegreens, or misheard lyrics.

Among his catalog, one track stands out above the rest.

The iconic "Tiny Dancer" alone accounts for 214 reported mishearings, placing it among the top 20 most commonly misheard songs in the entire dataset.

Released in 1971 on the album Madman Across the Water, the song is known for its sweeping string arrangements and poetic, loosely narrative lyrics. Its soft vocal delivery and dense instrumentation create moments where words can easily blur, especially when heard through car speakers, radios or crowded environments—classic conditions for lyric misinterpretation.

What makes John particularly notable in this context is not just the volume of misheard lyrics, but the diversity of them.

His catalog spans ballads, glam rock anthems, and theatrical pop compositions, often featuring expressive phrasing and complex arrangements that leave room for listeners to fill in gaps with their own interpretations.

Ultimately, the data underscores a simple truth: John’s music is so widely loved and so deeply embedded in popular culture that it lives many lives in listeners’ heads—sometimes exactly as written, and sometimes completely transformed. Either way, the songs endure, proving that even misheard, they remain unmistakably iconic.

"I Should've Invested in Apple:" 5 Retirees Share What They Wish They'd Known About Money at 60

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 9:56am

Hindsight is 20/20, as they say, but when it comes to money, there is a ton of good advice that can help you shape your future. Some people look back wishing they’d invested differently or paid off a debt, while others thought having a clearer picture of their future would have helped.

I reached out to five retirees and asked them one question: “What do you wish you knew about money when you were 60?” Here are their responses.

🚨 Warning! You may not be getting the best stories if you haven't signed up yet for Parade's daily newsletter 🚨

The 5 Lessons From Retirees

The five people I spoke with were from across the country. They come from different walks of life, having retired from a variety of careers. The respondents were craftspeople, professionals, homemakers, and business owners. Each person has been retired for at least 5 years but no more than 15 years.

Ameriprise Financial notes that many people worry about supporting their adult children in retirement, but none of the respondents mentioned this in their answers. In fact, investments were mentioned more than any other financial aspect.

Related: Retirees Who Love Their Lives Do These 3 Things Regularly— And None of Them Cost a Dime

Steve from Scottsdale, AZ said, “At 60, I thought a lot about what my future would look like in retirement. It would have been nice to have a clearer vision of the expenses associated with traveling, maintaining multiple homes, and how my investments would perform.

While many people plan for these expenses, inflation and the cost of living in America have changed dramatically in the past year. Even the most careful of investors would likely not have been able to predict the wild market we live in now.

Mike from Hermitage, PA mirrored the investment sentiment. “Not my 60s, but I would have invested in the medical cannabis industry in my 20s. Seriously, though, I’ve always had enough because I’m not focused on things. But I’m no different now than I would’ve been if I’d have gotten everything I wanted.”

While Mike chuckled, talking about medicinal cannabis, he was adamant that he really wouldn’t change anything. He said that he budgets well and is happy with what he has. Although, according to the Transamerica Institute, only 41% of retirees have increased happiness levels since retiring, putting Mike in the minority.

We see this reflected in sentiments from another retiree. “When you budget for emergency expenses after retirement,” says Diana from Columbia, TN, “think of what you think you should need for the year and at least double that amount.

Diana noted that several expenses, including back-to-back ice storms that required professional crews to come to their property to remove debris, ate into their 2026 emergency budget.

Her remarks parallel a Bankrate report on the lack of emergency funds in many Americans' accounts. Only 47%, less than half, of Americans surveyed by Bankrate said they could cover a $1000 emergency if needed.

Related: 43% of Americans Can't Cover a $1,000 Emergency— Here's What Experts Say You Really Need

And while emergency expenses can’t be accounted for, debt in retirement can. That was a regret from Sherry from Naples, FL.

“I should have had all the school loans paid off before retirement,” she said. Her husband, Dale, also from Naples, joked, “I should’ve invested more in Apple and prescription medication!”

Dale and Sherry both commented, however, that investing in your 30s is wiser, echoing Steve’s earlier comment about how investments would perform.

Overall, our five retirees were positive about their financial outlooks. While some are traveling and having new experiences, others are very happy enjoying the homes they’ve built for themselves.

What Hindsight Can Teach You Now

Many Americans are feeling uncertain about the future of retirement in the current economy, but for those already there, it doesn’t seem to be a dire situation. What we can learn from their hindsight is that investing and creating a clear retirement picture for yourself can help you plan for surprises.
