Man Asks Dave Ramsey How You Know If You're Financially Ready to Have a Kid, and His Answer Was Actually Surprising
People love going to Dave Ramsey for financial advice. So many people have said that his Baby Steps method for chipping away at debt and building wealth has literally changed their lives. However, during a recent segment of The Ramsey Show, a caller asked the financial guru how to know when their budget is under enough control to start a family.
While Ramsey's advice was shocking to some, as a parent, I found it absolutely spot-on. Keep reading to find out what he said about the "milestone" he says you need to hit before having kids.
@daveramseyThereâs no magic amount of money that makes someone ready to be a parent.
⏠original sound - Dave Ramsey - Dave Ramsey Dave Ramsey Says You Need to Hit This 'Milestone' Before Having KidsA caller recently asked Ramsey about starting a family and called into his show to ask, "How do you know when you're financially ready for kids?" The man asked if there was a net worth question or if it had to do with being ready with a budget that already allows for the extra expenses you can incur as a parent.
However, Ramsey's response was a surprising one, and not just because he didn't immediately talk about how much it costs to raise a childâwhich SmartAsset said is an average of $27,743 a year as of 2025âbut instead, he took a more sentimental approach, telling the caller that this is a decision that shouldn't be based on money.
Instead, he said the decision to have children should be based on your relationship, because most people will never meet the income and savings levels needed to raise a child.
"Babies are the best thing I've ever done," he said. "Except grandbabies. They're even better."

Many People Agreed With Ramsey's AdviceTypically, Ramsey gets a few negative comments on his TikToks, especially from people who say his financial takes aren't a good fit for everyone. However, this was one time that everyone seemed to be on the same page with the financial guru.
"If you wait until youâre financially ready, you will never be ready," one person commented.
Several people agreed and shared similar advice with the caller. "You donât! Just have the babies, everything falls into place," another person wrote.

As a parent, I have to admit that I agree with Ramsey. And, it's not just because so many people can spend their whole lives waiting to be financially ready to have kids. Instead, it's because, as a mom, I know that nothing lasts forever. Those early expenses like diapers and formula go away faster than you realise. And while they are replaced with new (and sometimes even bigger) expenses, those eventually go away too, until one day you wake up and look back on everything and wonder how you ever managed to make it work in the first place. Sure, some years are harder than others, but you usually make it through them and come out on the other side so glad that you decided to welcome these little humans into your life in the first place.

1971 Soft Rock Classic, Originally an Overnight Radio Anthem, Became a No. 1 Hit
In 1971, The Carpenters released a soft rock ballad so emotionally relatable that it almost instantly became a radio staple.
"Rainy Days and Mondays" became one of the duo's biggest hits, climbing to the top of Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and helping cement their reputation as one of the defining acts of 1970s soft rock.
Written by legendary songwriting duo Paul Williams and Roger Nichols, the song captured feelings of loneliness, emotional exhaustion and quiet vulnerability in a way that deeply resonated with listeners.
Its instantly memorable opening lyric, "Talkin' to myself and feeling old," helped establish the reflective tone that made the song stand out from many brighter pop hits of the era.
At the center of the track was the unmistakable voice of Karen Carpenter, whose warm, melancholic vocal performance became one of the song's defining features. Karen's voice gave even the simplest lyrics an emotional intimacy that connected powerfully with audiences.
"Our dad had quite a diversification in the types of music he liked," Richard told Goldmine Magazine. "So she heard the older singers, the Nat Coles and Perry Comos, and that all just sank in. She was a receptacle but a natural one. She was just born to sing all this stuff."
The song quickly became an overnight radio favorite thanks to its smooth arrangement, lush orchestration and universal themes. During the early 1970s, soft rock was increasingly dominating mainstream radio, and "Rainy Days and Mondays" perfectly fit the mood of the era while still feeling emotionally deeper than many of its contemporaries.
For brother-and-sister duo Karen and Richard Carpenter, the success of the song further solidified their extraordinary commercial run, which included classics like "Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun."
"I never thought it would get as big as it has," he told Rolling Stone. "I never thought it would have as many pressures as it does. How could you imagine it? Before, when the two of us were going to college, it was just screwing around. We rehearsed and said, 'Someday weâll make it,' and . . . no worries. What worries? Our biggest worry was not being able to afford some microphone we wanted."
Over the decades, "Rainy Days and Mondays" has remained one of the Carpenters' most beloved recordings, often praised for its emotional honesty and timeless production.
More than 50 years later, the song still resonates with listeners because its central feeling is so universally recognizable: sometimes rainy days and Mondays really do get people down.

Tennis Icon Aryna Sabalenka Sports a Sheer Outfit and a Golden Tan in a Stunning Vogue Cover
Aryna Sabalenka may wear workout clothes on the tennis court, but she decided to go sheer for the cover of Vogue.
The Belarusian tennis player, 28, who has won four Grand Slam titles and is currently the top-ranked female tennis player in the world, ditched her workout clothes and tennis racket for a groundbreaking cover and interview with Vogue. However, it's what she's NOT wearing that got the attentions of fans and followers. Sporting a bra top and a sheer navy skirt, the beauty showed off her strong muscles and golden tan as she stood on a balcony with the ocean behind her.
View this post on Instagram Sabalenka Just Got EngagedIn the article, Sabalenka shared that she recently became engaged to Georgios Frangulis, a Greek Brazilian businessman and the founder of Oakberry, an acai-bowl brand with more than 800 stores in over 50 countries. She now sports a 12-carat oval diamond ring that was created by Frangulis and a jeweler friend.
During a fun appearance with the social media influencer "Broadcast Boys" for a segment on Instagram, Sabalenka spoke about the giant ring.
"Is that what you personally requested?" she was asked.
The tennis legend replied, laughing, "No. I requested 14 but I got 12."
View this post on Instagram On Being Judged By StrangersIn the Vogue interview, Sabalenka opened up about the onslaught of criticism she's faced, particularly on social media.
âWith a lot of love and a lot of attention and a lot of success, thereâs always gonna be people who judge you,â she shared. âThey judge your look, they judge your grunting, your nationality, even your private life, your choices. I donât scroll a lot, but sometimes Iâll see random comments on Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and Iâll ask my manager, âDo people really hate me that much?â Then I go into the stadium and I feel so much support, and I realize that on the internet, itâs so few people, but itâs so loud. Sometimes itâs a fake account, and I think, You donât even have the balls to show your face? Or sometimes you click on the profile, and you see itâs a mother with three kids, a happy family living a very conventional, perfect life. And the stuff that sheâs messaging you, itâs âI want you to die, I want your family to have cancer, youâre a whore.â And I think: Thereâs something wrong with this planet.â
1962 No. 1 Pop Hit, Originally a Rejected Track, Ranked Among Best Love Songs of All Time
Before Bobby Vinton became a household name with the hit track "Blue Velvet," he was in jeopardy of losing his recording contract. The actor and singer released a love song in 1962 that would save his career and get him to the top of the charts.
Vinton was in his 30's when he released the track "Roses Are Red (My Love)" that was composed by Al Byron and Paul Evans. He had originally recorded it as an R&B number before re-recording it with a slower arrangement, strings, and a vocal choir that made it a solidified love song.
The track would leave Vinton to top the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 1 and on the Easy Listening Charts. It was also a major success overseas in Australia, New Zealand, and various countries outside the U.S. It kept its No. 1 ranking for four weeks and became the biggest success for Epic Records. "Roses Are Red (My Love)" was also ranked on Billboard's list of the Best Love Songs of All Time at No. 25.
Related: 1976 Soft Rock Hit, Inspired by a Young Love Affair, Ranked Among âBest Rock Songs of All Timeâ
Vinton's No. 1 hit had an interesting backstory, as the track saved him from getting dropped by Epic Records. According to SongFacts, the singer was called into a meeting with the label executives after failed EPs and told Vinton he was in danger of losing his contract. The singer instead asked for a second chance as his contract still entitled him to two more songs.
While the executives stepped away, Vinton combed through a reject pile of demo tracks and stumbled upon "Roses Are Red (My Love)." He would later admit that it was "the worst sounding thing you ever heard in your life." Vinton then persuaded the executives to let him record and sing the demo as his next track, to which they agreed with a new arrangement.
During that same recording session, Vinton also recorded the second track per his contract titled "Mr. Lonely." The track was put on hold by the record label until the singer campaigned for its release two years later and topped the charts at No. 1. "Roses Are Red (My Love)" would be covered by other artists like David MacBeth and Jim Reeves.
Vinton's track also made its way to pop culture decades later when it was included in the cult classic mob film Goodfellas. The song appears when Ray Liotta's character takes his date to see Vinton perform, with Vinton's son Robbie portraying the singer.
11 Best Serum Foundations That Give You Glowy Coverage and Better Skin, According to Makeup Artists
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Thereâs not much gray area when it comes to foundation. You have the brands youâre undeniably in love withâand the ones that simply arenât well-suited for your needs. (And donât even get us started on formulas that turn cakey or patchy once applied!)
But once you find the right fit for your skin, foundation can be an ideal product to achieve a glowy, photo-ready complexion. Whether you wear foundation daily or save it for weekends, the right product helps filter out blemishesâand discoloration can basically disappear.Â
But have you heard about serum foundation? Beauty enthusiasts are obsessedâand for good reason. The âwearing your skincareâ trend has been making major waves, with serum foundation being a key player. This particular product works double time by delivering glowy coverage and healthier skin.
Serum foundation is basically a hybrid that can give you the coverage of a traditional foundation and the skincare vibes youâd get when using a serum, explains Brielle Pollara, professional makeup artist at Brielle Beauty. Itâs meant to feel breathable and lightweight while improving your skin and establishing a more even tone.
âThe finish is usually natural to luminous, with a focus on making the skin look
healthier rather than heavily made up,â she tells Parade.
With so many products on the market, makeup shopping can be just as overwhelming as it is exciting. To make your search more seamless, we spoke with makeup artists who share their go-to serum foundations. Whether youâre looking for a budget-friendly option, the perfect choice for oily skin, or a favored pick for a dewy, lightweight finish, we have you covered.
What Is Serum Foundation, Exactly?Serum foundation is intended to nourish your complexion with the benefits of skincare while giving it the coverage you desire. Pollara notes that this hybrid product is usually made with ingredients like hyaluronic acid for plumping and hydrating, peptides for smoothening, niacinamide for tone correction and brightening, botanical extracts for skin barrier nourishment, and squalane for moisture balance.
"Some formulas also include calming ingredients like panthenol, aloe or vitamin B5. I always remind clients that these ingredients can support the way makeup looks and feels, but they do not replace a regular skincare routine," adds Gen Waring, professional makeup artist and owner of Waring Makeup Ottawa Makeup Artist.
This type of foundation is great for those who seek a more natural look.
âBeauty standards have shifted toward skin that looks real, fresh and healthy,â Pollara says. âPeople want makeup that enhances their skin instead of masking it. Serum foundations deliver that âyour skin, but betterâ effect while also feeling like skincare, which makes them comfortable for everyday wear and appealing across all age groups.â

If youâre wondering the difference between serum foundations and skin tints, hereâs what to know.
According to RenĂ©e Loiz, celebrity makeup artist at Renee Loiz Makeup, âSerum foundations usually offer more coverage and treatment benefits than a basic skin tint. A skin tint is great for very sheer, quick days. A serum foundation is for someone who wants that natural finish but still needs tone correction, smoothing or longevity.â
Serum foundations can be built up to achieve light-to-medium coverage while still providing a beautiful, natural finish.
âThey are best for anyone who wants a radiant, breathable baseâespecially normal to dry skin, mature skin, or those who prefer a soft, glowing finish over matte or full coverage makeup,â Pollara says.

How To Apply Serum FoundationStarting with hydrated skin is key. Pollara recommends gently cleansing, then using a lightweight moisturizer that completely absorbs into the skin. If necessary, use a hydrating primer to ensure smooth texture.Â
âThe goal is to create a plump, moisturized base so the serum foundation can melt in seamlessly,â Pollara says.
Keep in mind that your skin prep should always mesh well with your serum foundation formula.
"If the foundation is water-based, water-based skincare underneath is usually the safest match," Waring explains. "If the formula has more silicone or oil in it, warming it with your fingers or pressing it in with a brush can help it sit more smoothly on the skin."
Once your skin is prepped, itâs time to apply your serum foundation:
- Shake the bottle if the instructions call for it.
- Apply a small amount of product to the center of your face.
- Using your fingers, blend outward.
- Work with a damp sponge, pressing to perfect.
- Spot conceal where necessary.
- Lightly set with powder in targeted areas, if necessary.
While both Pollara and Loiz recommend applying serum foundation with your fingers, there are other tools to consider.
âFingers are my favorite method, because the warmth helps the product blend effortlessly into the skin for the most natural finish,â Pollara says. âA damp sponge is great if you want a sheerer, more diffused look. Brushes can be used, but they tend to give a slightly more polished, higher coverage effect compared to that skin-like finish serum foundations are known for.â

In addition, be mindful of how much product you useâand how quickly you apply it.
"The biggest mistake is applying too much too fast," Waring says. "Serum foundations are often thin and glowy, so too much product can make the skin look greasy, heavy or separated. I always suggest starting with a small amount, then adding more only where the face actually needs coverage."

1991 Rock Classic, Inducted Into the Grammy Hall of Fame, Ranked Among 'Greatest Punk Albums' of All Time
Sometimes, an album is just so iconic that the majority of people are going to have heard about it, whether they're into the artist's specific music genre or not. One of those records? Nevermind byNirvana.
Released on Sept. 24, 1991, Nevermind debuted at No. 144 on the Billboard 200 chart, climbing steadily and reaching No. 1 just over three months later on Jan. 11, 1992, when it knocked Michael Jackson's Dangerous from the top spot.
"Smells Like Teen Spirit," the album's lead single, was a cultural reset and is one of the most history-defining moments in the world of music. No one had heard anything quite like the track before, which ushered in the '90s alt-rock era and put the Seattle grunge scene firmly on the map.
Written primarily by Nirvana's late lead singer Kurt Cobain, the famous song title was originally an inside joke between Cobain and Kathleen Hanna, the singer of Bikini Kill. Per People, Hanna had spray-painted the words on his walls, and Cobain later asked Hanna if he could use it in a song.

The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2017, and Nevermind followed suit in 2018. In 2023, Nirvana was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I do fan mail, old-fashioned fan mail, and I get letters from around the world from Nirvana fans... a lot of young people, there's a new generation of Nirvana fans and I'm just very grateful for that," bassist Krist Novoselic said in his acceptance speech.
Today, Nevermind has received even more recognition and is among the top ten of the 100 Greatest Punk Albums, ranked by Rolling Stone.
"Nevermind went oÂff like a grenade in the American mainstream, turning junior-high dances into mosh pits with music that embodied Cobainâs dream of punk rock that the metal kids he grew up around in rural Washington could love," wrote Rolling Stone. "On songs like 'In Bloom,' 'Breed,' and 'Territorial Pissings,' he took the punishing sludge of the Pacific Northwest underground rock scene and made it into something relentlessly catchy, powerfully opaque, and weirdly empathetic."
Coming up on the 35th anniversary of the album, it's clear to see just how influential the record was.

1991 Grunge Anthem's Unmistakeable Guitar Riff Helped Define the Genre
In 1990, while they were stilling calling themselves "Mookie Blaylock," Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Stone Gossard were recording demo sessions in Seattle, Washington. Eventually the group renamed themselves Pearl Jam, and their debut single "Alive" was recorded in early 1991.
The opening riff for the song, played by Gossard, is monolithic, wide, and classically kind of slacker for a grunge anthem. Guitar World lists it among the "Best Riffs of All Time" and calls it a "must know" from the grunge era.
đŹSIGN UP for Paradeâs Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inboxđŹ
"Alive" was released almost two months ahead of Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten. Although other singles from the album were more successful, "Alive" garnered significant attention to Pearl Jam spent a record-breaking 61 weeks on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
The lyrics to "Alive" are partially autobiographical, based on Vedder's own life. When Vedder was growing up, his mother told him that the man who raised him was actually not his biological father, and that his biological dad has passed away. Vedder has said his interpretation of "Alive" is not inspirational but rather, "He's still dealing, he's still growing up. He's still dealing with love, he's still dealing with the death of his father. All he knows is 'I'm still alive'...those three words, that's totally out of burden."
Critically, "Alive" has remained a hit amongst music experts. Pitchfork said of the song, "'Alive' remains potent not only because Vedder touches on some seriously transgressive shit here (dead fathers, hints at incest, survivor guilt), but mostly because the band rock the hell out of that coda."American Songwriter listed the song at number two of Pearl Jam's entire catalog and the song was listed among the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" by Rolling Stone.
ln 2022, "Alive" was award gold certification for sales and streams of over 400,000. The debut Pearl Jam hit has proven to be a defining song for grunge, and its legacy is undeniable.

After eight seasons on the ABCsitcom, the actress appeared in a couple of made-for-TV drama movies, but she shed her wholesome suburban witch image for good with the film The Legend of Lizzie Borden.
The ABC TV movie of the week aired on Feb. 10, 1975, and featured Montgomery in the lead role as Lizzie Andrew Borden, a 19th-century, New England spinster who was on trial for the double axe murders of her father and stepmother. Montgomeryâs portrayal of the disturbingly dark character was a major departure from the beloved TV image she portrayed for so many years on her hit sitcom, and it scored her an Emmy nod.
The Legend of Lizzie Borden won two Emmy Awards for Editing and for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design. The film also received a Golden Globe nomination and became a cult classic.
ScreenRant ranked The Legend of Lizzie Borden as one of the greatest horror movies of all time, describing it as âa sensationalist classic.â
Fans still talk about the filmDecades after it originally aired on primetime TV, fans continue to talk about The Legend of Lizzie Borden. In a Reddit thread, fans recalled being terrified by the film 50 years ago.
âI remember seeing this movie as a young boy - freaked me out,â one viewer wrote.
âIt was on TV, but I was too little and my parents made me go to bed,â another recalled. "Then they watched it and I could hear the whole thing. Every commercial break they broke into the song...Lizzie Borden took an axe...scared the crap out of me and I didn't even see it.â
âThis movie was a few years after the end of Bewitched. It was crazy seeing 'Samantha Stephens' murdering people. But it got people to look at Elizabeth as an actress, and not the TV role,â another chimed in.

Elizabeth Montgomery kept a souvenir from the filmDespite the scary subject matter, Montgomery was reportedly a dream to work with. Â The filmâs Emmy-winning editor, John Martinelli, once told the Television Academy Foundation that Montgomery was fabulous to be around while on the set.
âElizabeth Montgomery can say not enough about her,â he recalled. âShe's magnificentâŠShe was just, she could make you feel like a million bucks. âŠWe ran for her. I mean,  she was the highest-paid movie of the week actress at the time."
âSheâs just that charming person," he added. âShe's Bewitched, she's Samantha and ⊠I mean, she had 100 nominations, never wonâŠbut she was just a doll.â
Montgomery once poked fun at her Lizzie Borden role, according to ReMind magazine. Bewitched historian Herbie Pilato recalled that the first time he met the star, she was dressed all in black and holding a creepy accessory.
âThe first time I met her, she still had the axe from her film The Legend of Lizzie Borden, with the dried, fake blood on it,â Pilato recalled. âAnd she had it next to the fireplace. She picked it up, and I said, âWould you please put that down?â She was freaking me out, and she knew it, and she loved it.â

'60s Icon, Who Starred in 'Trilogy of Terror,' Among Forgotten Hollywood Stars
Karen Black wasn't just part of the Hollywood spotlight but one of the true scream queens of her generation, sparking chills through her career-defining role in Trilogy of Terror.
Despite her cult status in the â60s and the â70s, especially in the horror and thriller circuit, the Illinois native was once among the silver screenâs brightest stars, only for her legacy to later fade into the footnotes of film history.
With the rise of genre-bending horror, dark comedy and slasher movies, letâs revisit the legacy of Karen Black, from her standout roles during the "New Hollywood" film era to her later recognition as a "Scream Queen."

The actress achieved breakthrough success in the late 1960s after landing the character of a New Orleans prostitute in Easy Rider.
Although she only had limited screentime, Black captured the attention of viewers with her raw talent and remarkable presence.
The character not only sparked buzz but was followed by a Golden Globe-winning performance in Five Easy Pieces.
After seeing her in Easy Rider, she was personally recommended by co-star and Hollywood A-lister Jack Nicholson to director Bob Rafelson and was able to secure the role of country-music-loving waiter Rayette Dipesto.
The back-to-back hit films led to opportunities that would later solidify her cult status in Hollywood.
In 1975, she teamed up with the legendary filmmaker Dan Curtis to headline Trilogy of Terror, a made-for-television anthology horror film with Black starring in three separate stories.
From being a critically acclaimed dramatic actress, she showed her versatility by portraying three characters experiencing various forms of supernatural terror based on short stories written by sci-fi and horror author Richard Matheson.
In an interview with Vice, the actress revealed that she learned to appreciate her performance in Trilogy of Terror through viewersâ reactions.
"People think of me and they think of horror... I think also, I was just really excellent in the Trilogy of Terror,â she said, adding, âIt took me many years to figure that one out. You know, we thought it was the doll, we thought it was Dan [Curtis], we thought it was this... And then I thought, you know what? I'm really good in that. Because I was really scared by the doll. People eventually said, 'Oh my god, you're all alone with this little piece of wood,' and yet we believed every minute of it."
Due to the showâs popularity, Black experienced typecasting, leaving her viewed exclusively through horror projects. At the age of 74, the then Scream Queen left a lasting legacy following her death in 2013 due to ampullary cancer.
Turkey Hill Drops New Flavor Inspired by an Old-Fashioned Favorite
Turkey Hill is ready to celebrate with a festive new launch inspired by an old-fashioned ice cream shop favorite.
Ahead of the United States' semiquincentennial this July 4, the iconic frozen treat and beverage brand is sweetening the party with a new flavor inspired by classic root beer floats (those wishing for a chocolate malt, banana split, or an egg cream flavor are out of luck this time around, but there's always hope the brand will feel so inspired next summer).
The ice cream drink is said to have been invented in the Colorado Rockies some 133 years ago and peaked in popularity during Prohibition (when ice cream parlors reigned supreme). But lately, it's seen a resurgence in pop culture, not only as a precursor to the trendy "dirty sodas" but with MUG Root Beer releasing a Vanilla Howler Root Beer Float soda flavor and now Turkey Hill reimagining it as a scoopable frozen dessert.
Turkey Hill Celebrates America's 250th With Limited-Edition Root Beer Float FlavorAccording to a recent Facebook post from the brand, its new Root Beer Float flavor was developed to "bring the nostalgic vibes" to this year's historic Independence Day celebrations.

The new treat swirls vanilla frozen dairy dessert with root beer-flavored sherbet, per an official product listing.
"Turkey hill....," one fan gushed on Instagram. "Thank youuuuu cant wait for it."
"Root Beer Float Ice Cream I need," another cheered.
"It's amazing," one more who claimed to have already tried it exclaimed. "Keep it all the time, not just limited edition!"
Others made it known that they were disappointed that the flavor is not made with real ice cream, but instead with what they consider an inferior frozen dairy dessert, which is often less creamy and not as rich as what the USDA categorizes as ice cream due to its lower dairy milkfat and other substitutes.
Still, plenty of consumers were clearly unbothered by it, curious about where they could buy the new find.
Turkey Hill Root Beer Float is available in 1.44-quart containers with festive, Fourth of July packaging at select retailers nationwide that sell other Turkey Hill products like its new Soft Serve lineâincluding Food Lion, GIANT, Harris Teeter, Kroger, ShopRite, and Weisâfor a limited time this summer (prices may vary). To find it near you, refer to Turkey Hill's official product locator.

Smash 1968 Jimi Hendrix Hit Was Originally Written and Recorded by an Iconic Folk Artist
In late 1966 throughout 1967, folk icon and legendary sing-songwriter Bob Dylan was recovering from a major motorcycle accident and spent 18 months at home resting and writing. All of the songs for Dylan's eighth studio album, John Wesley Harding, were written during this period. "All Along the Watchtower" was inspired by a thunderstorm with the lyrics featuring a conversation between a joker and a thief in the style of a sonnet.
Dylan recorded two different takes that resulted in the final version for the 1967 album. While the recording of the track was released to mixed reviews, critics did note that the song "brought out Dylan's talent for imagery."

Six months after Dylan's album release, Jimi Hendrix his band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, began working on a recording of "All Along the Watchtower" in January of 1968. Originally the band was going to record "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" but changed this to "All Along the Watchtower" after listening to reel-to-reel tapes of unreleased recordings by Dylan.
16 different tracks were recorded by The Jimi Hendrix Experience of what would eventually become the final recording. The song was released in September of 1968 as part of the studio album Electric Ladyland and reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would become Hendrix's highest ranked single and only Top 40 hit.
Dylan was heavily moved by Hendrix's interpretation of "All Along the Watchtower" saying in 1995, "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."
Dylan has performed the song more like Hendrix's version than to his own original in on tour and in live performances of the song. Dylan has performed "All Along the Watchtower" more than any songs in his catalog, over 2,250 times.
In 2001, the Jimi Hendrix version of the track was given a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. His version was also ranked at number 40 of Rolling Stones' "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

Woman Boasts About Eating 'Stinky' Chicken on a Plane and the Internet Called Her Out
Most people who fly regularly know it's a major faux pas to bringâand eatâespecially smelly food on a plane. But it appears not everyone got the memo. A recent TikTok video from one young woman doing just this has been going viral, and not in a good way.
In the video, the woman films herself in an airplane seat with her tray table down, eating a container full of seasoned chicken thighs. She captioned the video: "Me facing my fears: Eating chicken thighs on the plane and the man eating cheezits in front of me screaming 'IT STINKS' but I finished them in peace bc the way I feel in my body is more important than some random guys uncomfortability with salt, pepper & garlic."
@_laurenlives_enjoy your cheezits tho
⏠suara asli - wonniech - wonniechWhat may have originally been intended as an empowering social media moment instead enraged half the internet. The comment section became a battleground of opinions, with people weighing in on everything from basic plane etiquette to body autonomy.

The Internet Weighs InThe criticism was swift and blunt. "Yeah no that's just being inconsiderate even if you are looking out for yourself," wrote one commenter. Another went harder: "Girl, garlic and CHICKEN on a plane? The way your body feels about what food you like is not more important than having courtesy towards every other person on that plane. Choose a food that doesn't smell."
Some tried to offer middle ground. "Mind you there are healthy foods with mild scents," reminded another user, suggesting she could have eaten something nutritious without subjecting her fellow passengers to the aroma of seasoned poultry.
But the most relatable take came from someone highlighting the physical reality of being trapped in a pressurized cabin: "[A]s someone with plane anxiety, there is nothing worse than the suffocating stinky food smell when on the plane. [W]e're all stuck with that air just circulating."
Another commenter summed up what many were thinking: "'I stunk up the plane and made it everyone else's problem because [I] couldn't eat this meal literally 10 minutes ago before [I] boarded.'"

The Broader ConversationThe viral video has reignited the age-old debate about plane etiquette versus personal freedom. On one side, there's the argument that self-care mattersâif she was hungry and needed to eat, that's her right. On the other side is the reality that planes are shared spaces with recycled air, and when you're sitting elbow-to-elbow with strangers for hours, consideration for others becomes part of the deal.Â
Most people seem to agree: maybe just wait until you land.
