Sara Bareilles Reveals Miscarriage at 46 Amid Fertility Struggles

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:45pm

Grammy Award winner Sara Bareilles opened up about her fertility struggles after suffering her first miscarriage at 46.

“It sucks,” Bareilles told the New York Times on Wednesday, September 9. “Of course I wish I didn’t have a miscarriage.”

After losing a good friend earlier this year, Bareilles admitted it was a “relief” to not be pregnant, saying it would have been “really, really, really hard.”

Earlier this year, Bareilles—who has been married to actor Joe Tippett since October 2025—released a documentary, Good Grief, in which she detailed her struggles.

“We’ve been trying for two years,” the “Gravity” artist said, per People, adding that she’s tried IVF (in vitro fertilization) “a few times”. “But I think the next phase is egg donor. For some reason, I’m not making the appointment. I really had to grieve that…that it won’t be mine.”

Bareilles added, “The idea that love is just big enough to hold a lot of shapes and sizes and ways things come. The idea that I could only love a child if it shows up in this one way.”

The couple met in 2015 during a tryout for the musical Waitress. They announced their engagement on New Year’s Day 2023, and tied the know nearly three years later.

1971 Soul Hit, Written by Bill Withers, Is One of the 'Most Covered Songs of All Time' 55 Years Later

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:44pm

Bill Withers had been making music for years before “Ain’t No Sunshine” changed his career. Released in 1971, the soulful track became his breakthrough hit and has since been recorded by hundreds of artists, making it one of the most covered songs of all time.

Withers drew inspiration for the song from the 1962 film Days of Wine and Roses, starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. In a later interview with Rock Cellar, he recalled watching the movie and seeing its characters repeatedly separate and reunite.

“They were both battling alcoholism,” he said. “And at one point one of them would be up and one of them would be down. They kept leaving each other. Then I looked out of the window and probably a bird ate a peanut and that just crossed my mind.”

The song didn’t take Withers long to write, and he kept the recording simple, with no instrumental introduction. “The song was written pretty quickly. It’s a very short song anyway. It has no introduction,” he noted.

The label didn’t initially see “Ain’t No Sunshine” as the hit. It was released on the B-side of “Harlem,” but radio DJs started playing it anyway. Another unusual feature of the song is the repeated “I know” section near the end. Withers originally planned to add more lyrics, but Booker T. Jones, who produced the album, encouraged him to leave the words as they were.

“And then not only that, a song that has no words in the chorus, just ‘I know, I know, I know”. In fact, I was gonna write something in there and Booker said, ‘Nope, just keep it like that.’”

Withers later suggested that the song’s take on heartbreak may be part of what has made it so relatable over the years. “I think people still like ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ because a lot of people left a lot of people in there. More people get left than wanna admit it and they can identify with the song.”

The single gave Withers his first major success as a soul singer, reaching No. 6 on the U.S. R&B chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Billboard ranked it as the No. 23 biggest hit single of 1971. The song also earned Withers a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 1972.

Withers’ recording was only the beginning of the song’s success. Michael Jackson covered it for his 1972 debut solo album, Got to Be There, followed by versions from artists including Paul McCartney.

When Rock Cellar asked Withers about McCartney covering “Ain’t No Sunshine,” he admitted he never expected one of the former Beatles to even know his music. “First of all I couldn’t have even imagined then that Paul McCartney would even know that I existed.”

He added that he enjoyed hearing other artists reinterpret his work. “I liked his version. I like anybody’s version of something that I’ve written because it’s another point of view.”

More than five decades after its release, “Ain’t No Sunshine” remains one of Withers’ best-known songs. Grunge has called it “one of the most-covered songs of all time,” and estimates put the number of recorded covers at well over 500.

In 2024, Withers’ recording was selected for the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, which recognizes recordings deemed “culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant.”

1997 Mariah Carey Album Includes Song Inspired by Her Romance With Derek Jeter, Ranked Her Best by Rolling Stone

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:41pm

Mariah Carey was already one of the biggest stars in music when she released Butterfly in 1997, but the album marked the beginning of a very different chapter for the singer. As she was leaving her marriage to music executive Tommy Mottola and pushing for greater creative freedom, Carey embraced the R&B and hip-hop influences she had been exploring, while drawing inspiration from her own life, including her romance with then-New York Yankees star Derek Jeter. Decades later, Rolling Stone has named Butterfly the best album of Carey’s career, a fitting recognition for the record that helped her spread her creative wings.

Why Butterfly Was a Turning Point for Mariah Carey

Comparing Butterfly to Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Prince’s Purple Rain, Rolling Stone calls Butterfly a professional turning point for Carey, one pivotal to her developing the hip-hop and R&B-influenced sound that she is still known for today.

Calling the album “a creative breakthrough,” the 12-track album spawned some of Carey’s most memorable hits, including “Honey,” as well as her cover of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” with Dru Hill. “Close My Eyes” is as devastating as it is determined, with Carey flashing back to an unsettling childhood while admitting, “Maybe I grew up a little too soon.”

“The Roof” isn’t one of the album’s biggest chart-toppers, but it has become a fan favorite over time. It is also one of three songs on the album Carey wrote about her romance with then-New York Yankees star Derek Jeter.

“The Roof,” “My All” and “Honey” were each inspired by her relationship with Jeter and serve as snapshots of a pivotal time in Carey’s history, when she was separating from then-husband Tommy Mottola.

How Butterfly Changed Mariah Carey’s Sound @apnewsentertainment

As she celebrates her new LP “Here For It All,” Mariah Carey looks back on the 1997 release of her smash hit LP “Butterfly.”

In her 2020 memoir, Carey describes Butterfly as one of her most personal albums. As she separated from Mottola and began to establish her own voice as a singer, songwriter and producer, she no longer wanted to sing about other people’s experiences.

That’s part of what makes Butterfly so special nearly 30 years later. This was Mariah Carey metaphorically transforming and launching, using her own pain, sorrow, hopes, dreams and even heartbreak to create something entirely personal that has endured over time.

Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter’s romance may not have stood the test of time, but it serves as inspiration for three of Butterfly’s most personal songs and helped make the album one of Mariah Carey’s best, if not the best, ever.

1972 Song by Yes Ranked Among 'Best Rock Epics Over 10 Minutes Long'

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:36pm

Beloved progressive rock band Yes is known for their lengthier tunes. So, it shouldn’t be all that surprising for Yes fans that one of their songs is featured on Collider‘s list of “The 10 Best Rock Epics Over 10 Minutes Long.”

Collider put Yes’ 1972 track, “Close to the Edge,” which lasts almost 19 minutes, at the ranking’s fourth spot. According to the publication, the tune, off the band’s fifth album, Close to the Edge, deserves recognition for managing to be somewhat erratic but overall very pleasant.

Collider also spotlighted “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” by Elton John, “The End” by The Doors, and “Thick as a Brick” by Jethro Tull on the list.

Yes Guitarist Steve Howe Shared His Thoughts About the Longevity of the ‘Close to the Edge’ Record

In a 2022 interview with Classic Rock Review, Yes guitarist Steve Howe discussed the Close to the Edge record, which consists of three songs, “Close to the Edge,” “And You And I,” and “Siberian Khatru.” Howe explained that he wasn’t overall surprised that the album has had such a lasting impact.

“Whenever a band or a musician makes a record, that record he’s got to think is potentially his greatest piece of work, so yes, definitely thought that ‘Close to the Edge,’ the record we were working on, was pretty epic,” said the musician, now 79.

He clarified that while the band didn’t know that album would be celebrated, they believed “it was going to get a bigger foot in the door after Fragile,” their fourth album released in 1971.

“We were just trying to supersede Fragile with something greater,” said Howe during the 2022 interview.

He also shared that the entire 1972 album was conceived because he and the band’s singer, Jon Anderson, “dreamed up the idea of the 20-minute piece.”

In addition, Howe noted that the Close to the Edge record is difficult to play live, due to the complicated nature of the studio recording.

“Yes just resolved that there was a way of playing this live, and whatever compromises we had to make, we had to make them,” explained Howe.

First Photos Emerge of Lady Gaga With New Baby

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:32pm

Shortly after the surprise Friday evening report that Lady Gaga had become a new mom, photos emerged on September 11 of the pop superstar carrying the newborn during a casual outing. The news was first reported by Page Six, and an inside source has since confirmed the news to People.

The images, also first published by Page Six, show Gaga, 40, walking in Northern California with her fiancé, Michael Polansky, 42, and an unidentified woman. Gaga is seen snuggling the infant, tucked inside in a wearable baby sling, with the newborn’s head sweetly resting on her chest.

See the photos right here.

Since wrapping her Mayhem Ball tour in April, Gaga has kept a fairly low profile with Polansky, to whom she’s been engaged to since 2024. Rumors were flying in recent weeks that the couple had wed, but TMZ reported on September 9 that sources close to the couple said that was untrue, but that they were spending time in Marin County, just north of San Francisco.

Gaga’s fandom knows the “Born This Way” singer has been cautiously optimistic about the possibility of motherhood for years. In March 2025, she told the New York Times, “I’m excited to be a mom. I used to have a lot of apprehension about it.”

“The thing that’s the most important to me is to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing,” she told the outlet. “So the more that we can give them space to discover who they are on their own, that’s the thing that I believe in the most.”

When Page Six posted the new photos, the comment sections were filled with notes from supporters, including one that said, “I’m thrilled that we’ll have a little monster hahaha”

Others expressed their shock and excitement, including one who exclaimed, “Mind blown 🤯”

“Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, the record unfolds as a cohesive concept-driven journey through gods, heroes, and legends, giving the album an additional sense of identity and epic scope,” the band shared on Instagram.

‘Gods, Myths & Titans’ Tracklist
  • “Prologue – Sacrifice”
  • “Firegod”
  • “I Will Sail On”
  • “The Legend of Achilles”
  • “Cries of a Mortal”
  • “Queen of the Underworld”
  • “Prelude – The Chosen One”
  • “Under Aegean Skies”
  • “A King Dethroned”
  • “Unbreakable”
  • “Titans Fall”
  • “Epilogue”

Also in the post, lead guitarist Gus G spoke more to the band’s inspiration, saying, “We’ve wanted to make a concept album about Greek mythology for a long time, and finally we got around to it. It’s been two years in the making, and our goal was to create the most epic album in the history of the band.”

According to the Ozzy Osbourne alum, the band added cinematic and orchestral elements to their classic metal sound, adding an entirely new layer of groove to Firewind.

“Each track is a gate to a different myth,” he continued. “We went all in with the visual side as well and worked with Felipe Machado, who created unique artworks for every song. These are tales of power, glory, tragedy, and defiance.”

To celebrate the album news, Firewind dropped the first single, “The Legend of Achilles,” sharing that it’s a song about “one of the mightiest warrior legends ever to walk the earth.”

Gus G’s brainchild, Firewind formed in 1998. Over more than two decades, the band has evolved from a solo showcase into one of the most enduring and respected acts in the melodic power metal scene.

Despite an ever-shifting lineup, Gus G has remained Firewind’s core member. The band reached a major milestone in the mid-2000s with Allegiance and The Premonition, featuring singer Apollo Papathanasio and keyboardist Bob Katsionis. Then, Herbie Langhans took over vocal duties from 2020 to 2025.

Gods, Myths & Titans marks the return of Henning Basse behind the microphone, “bringing a powerful and distinctive vocal presence that perfectly complements the band’s unmistakable sound.”

These 11 Baby Names From the 1950s Are Suddenly Becoming Popular Again, Experts Say

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:15pm

Selecting a name for your child is one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make. No pressure! As with everything in life, name trends come and go, and they tend to be cyclical. For instance, experts say baby names from the 1950s are suddenly becoming popular again.

Whether you’re expecting a child and are looking for name inspiration or you grew up in the ’50s and are curious to know if your name made the cut, we’ve put together a list of the mid-century baby names that are making a comeback and trending right now.

To compile the list, we consulted three baby naming pros: Taylor A. Humphrey, author of Baby Name Mourning; Colleen Slagen, the author of Naming Bebe: An Interactive Guide to Choosing a Baby Name You Love and name consultant Teri Brill.

With 1950s names surging in popularity, we were eager to learn more about the “100-year rule” and why names often come back in style. We also asked the experts to explain what made mid-century monikers so unique.

If you’re looking to merge the old with the new and want to create a unique vibe for your child, the pros also share some tips for styling a 1950s name with a modern middle name.

The 11 Mid-Century Baby Names Making a Sudden Comeback

Baby naming experts highlight these 11 monikers inspired by the 1950s.

1. Edward (Boy)

What it means: Wealth guard, prosperity

Why it’s making a comeback: “Since this name was more popular in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, some people naming babies right now are using it to honor their dad/grandpa, but using a more ‘current’ nickname: Teddy,” Slagen explains.

2. Dorothy (Girl)

What it means: God’s gift

Why it’s making a comeback: “I recently ran into a grandmother named Dorothy, and I told her that her name is back, and she said, ‘Please no.’ But to the younger generation, it feels retro and stylish once again, especially with the ‘cool girl’ nickname Dot,” Slagen shares.

3. Bruce (Boy)

What it means: Brush/thicket, willowlands

Why it’s making a comeback: “Meghan Trainor may be responsible for this one since she named her son Barry Bruce in 2023. Since it’s uncommon these days, it gives a traditional name an edgy, unexpected feel,” Slagen states.

4. Judith (Girl)

What it means: Praised

Why it’s making a comeback: “This is one I am surprised by since it’s a name that was quite prevalent amongst the parents of Millennials (as opposed to a name that is more associated with the grandparents of the naming parents),” Slagen notes. “It very much reminds me of Edith, which started making a comeback a few years ago. I actually think the full form–Judith–has a fresh, retro feel compared to the nickname Judy, which felt more ubiquitous amongst Baby Boomers.”

5. George (Male)

What it means: Farmer or Earthworker

Why it’s making a comeback: “We are susceptible to the royal influence,” Slagen simply states. “George is big in England right now, and that is trickling across the pond.”

Related: 125 Weird Baby Names for Parents Who Think Outside the Box

6. Sylvia (Girl)

What it means: Of the woods

Why it’s making a comeback: “Sylvia’s appeal may have something to do with the incredible popularity of Olivia and the nickname ‘Livvy’ as they share very similar sounds,” Slagen shares. “This is one of my favorite comeback names.”

7. Richard (Male)

What it means: Strong in rule, powerful, hardy, brave

Why it’s making a comeback: “People are looking for underused classics,” Slagen explains. “Richard was once a top 10 name, and now sits down in the 200s in the national rankings. You can also make it fresh with creative nicknames. While Rich/Richie are cute, I’ve also heard people using Archie.”

8. Sally (Girl)

What it means: Princess

Why it’s making a comeback: “Although a popular name in the 1950s, this name peaked in 1939, which makes it pretty ripe for a comeback,” Slagen states. “The Role Model song (“Sally, When the Wine Runs Out”) doesn’t hurt in terms of cool vibes.”

9. Arthur (Male)

What it means: Bear man, bear king

Why it’s making a comeback: “The comeback of the grandpa names! What was once old now feels fresh to today’s generation of naming parents,” Slagen notes. “It’s another classic with a lot of cute nickname potential. I’ve heard Art, Artie, Archie and Bear.”

10. Bonnie (Girl)

What it means: Beautiful

Why it’s making a comeback: “Names that are classic, familiar but unexpected amongst babies are really appealing to parents today. Bonnie fits that bill. It’s classic and nostalgic, with an unexpected edge,” Slagen says.

11. Walter (Boy)

What it means: Commander of the army

Why it’s making a comeback: “This is another underdone classic. I think a lot of these names we label as ‘grandpa’ names are adorable to picture on a baby, but still feel like they age well,” Slagen says.

Why 1950s Names Are Surging: The ‘100-Year Rule’ Explained

Just like fashion trends, names tend to go in and out of style. There’s even a fun term for the cyclical nature of names: the 100-year rule.

“The 100-year rule means that it takes about 100 years for a name to become fresh again to the current generation. What was old and hidden in family trees is now new and fun,” Brill tells Parade.

Typically, this precedent means that names make a comeback every four generations. But there’s been a bit of an interesting shift in recent years.

“As fertility is extended into our mid-to-late 40s, three separate generations are still within their childbearing window: Younger Gen X, Millennials and elder Gen Z,” Humphrey explains. “The cultural differences between these three generations [are] fairly vast, to say the least. So we, as a society, have become more accepting of a broad range of names.”

Aside from the 100-year rule, there are a few other reasons why 1950s names are currently rising in popularity.

“Mid-century modern names evoke a nostalgia for the wholesome, hopeful, pastel-colored post-World War II era,” she explains. “There’s a bubbly charm to these names that reminds us of our grandparents.”

A lot of the names that were once popular in the 1950s are now considered quite unique, which adds to their curb appeal.

“People love that 1950s names are familiar, but at the same time you’re not going to know multiple children named Artie or Pamela,” Brill shares. “They carry a uniqueness for today’s baby but feel so good and natural to say.”

Rather than just repeating older names, Humphrey says some parents are getting a bit creative.

“One trend picking up speed is the use of masculine, mid-century nicknames for little girls (think: Scottie, Frankie, Joey, Charlie, Andee) and surnames as first names, which is another gender-bending trick to pass an honorary name down to a member of the opposite sex,” she states. “For example, if you had a grandma named Susan Wells, you might pass ‘Wells’ down to your son. If you had a grandpa named Louis Campbell, you might pass ‘Campbell’ down to your daughter.”

1950s Names vs. 1920s Names: What Makes Mid-Century Style Unique?

In just a few decades, name trends can change significantly. For instance, many names from the 1950s are markedly different from those hailing from the 1920s.

“Mid-century style names from the 1950s are more concise, sharp and almost feel dapper in look and sound compared to 1920s names with more syllables and heavier sounds,” Brill explains.

The name consultant notes that mid-century style overall had a “sleek and minimal” vibe.

“The same thing applies to names during this era: think Betty, Walt, June and Art vs. some Victorian/Edwardian names like Eleanor, Florence… and Frederick,” she states. “Some parents really like this crisp and short style.”

How To Style a 1950s Name With a Modern Middle Name

Combining the old with the new can result in something pretty special.

“You can take a retro 1950s name and modernize it with a hip middle name to come up with a perfectly balanced baby name,” Brill states. “This combination creates a name that’s the best of both worlds: a nod back to the ‘golden age’ with a little bit of fresh and chic style added in as well.”

If you’re considering taking this route with your child’s name, Humphrey has some words of wisdom to share, though she’s quick to note that there are “no rules in baby naming.”

“A baby name should sound like your favorite three-word poem. The first name is the introduction, the middle name is the story and the last name is the conclusion,” she shares. “A first name should introduce a child in a dignified manner, while conveying personal style. A middle name should reveal something more personal, perhaps something meaningful about the parents’ shared history and love story.”

As she explains, the middle name should “tie the first and last name together” and create “a beautiful, harmonic, flowy effect.”

“A surname is the anchor that grounds the entire name. It conveys history, legacy and ethnic or cultural background,” she says.

Aldi's New $15 Glass Food Storage Set Is a Meal Prep Must-Have

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:15pm

Meal prep is one of those kitchen habits that sound incredibly organized in theory—until you’re staring at a refrigerator full of mismatched containers and wondering where the other half of that one lid disappeared. The right food storage containers can make all the difference, keeping prepared meals, leftovers, snacks and ingredients neatly organized and ready to grab. And while glass containers are a popular choice, they can also come with a not-so-popular price tag.

Thankfully, Aldi is bringing back one of its wildly popular kitchen finds on Sept. 16, and meal preppers may want to clean out those mismatched containers. The Crofton 12-Piece Glass Bowls With Snapping Lids will be available for $14.99, a steal compared to similar sets at other retailers.

The collection offers plenty of options for shoppers who want their food storage to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. There will be sets of glass containers with snapping blush pink ring lids, plus a square version with the same rosy lids. If pink isn’t quite your kitchen color, the sets will also come with green ring lids in both the round and square shapes.

The containers are especially handy for meal prep because they can take you from preparing food to storing it without requiring a parade of different dishes. Having several containers on hand in varying sizes also makes it easier to portion out lunches, organize leftovers or prep ingredients ahead of a busy week.

The drop is particularly timely with the fall season soon underway. It’s the perfect time to pack up soups, casseroles, pasta dishes and other cozy dishes. And because they’re freezer-, microwave- and dishwasher-safe, they are both incredibly useful and easy to work with.

As always with an Aldi Find, availability can be tricky. If these sets have been on your kitchen wish list, Sept. 16 is the date to remember. Whether you go for blush pink or green, round or square, this meal prep accessory might make your refrigerator look suspiciously more put together.

HBO's 'Killer Story' Docuseries Premiere Gets Unexpected Fan Reaction

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:14pm

A morbid crime case doesn’t have to be chronicled in such a way 100% of the time, does it?

Sure, it often comes with the territory — but anyone familiar with acclaimed journalist Joe Sexton knows he brings a certain liveliness to the room. It is showcased, and then some, in A Killer Story, HBO’s brand-new docuseries that just premiered and will continue to unfold one episode at a time for the next three weeks.

The true-crime project follows Sexton, 66, senior editor at The New York Times, who begins receiving relentless emails from Eileen Umbehr, a Kansas woman with no connection to the case who is convinced Dana Chandler is innocent. As Eileen, 68, shares an extensive archive of evidence, Sexton is drawn deeper into the case and ultimately travels to Kansas to meet Eileen and her husband — Chandler’s most dedicated advocates.

As HBO promises, “what begins as unexpected correspondence evolves into a riveting investigation spanning multiple trials that reveals conflicting narratives and raises new questions, upending what first appeared to be a straightforward murder case.”

The official HBO Documentaries Instagram account has been posting this week to promote the Killer Story premiere episode, which aired Thursday, September 10. “The case that refuses to stay buried,” reads the caption of its recent reel. See below.

Fans, including those who have already tuned in, have since flooded the post’s comments section to voice their excitement for the docuseries and what’s to come. “Obsessed with this,” said one Instagram user, while another person commented in part, “with Joe’s commitment to the truth, City grit, and humor…I guarantee it will be a great documentary like no other. Love it already from the posts.”

And another comment on the Instagram post came unexpected, given the show’s grim subject matter: “Such a fun watch.” But after just 10 minutes of watching the first episode, you’ll quickly understand why. Dropping F-bombs left and right, with an unlit cigarette constantly dangling out of his wise-cracking mouth, Sexton is a hoot to watch as he probes the years-old case. Just you wait.

Verdict Is in for Grammy Winner in Los Angeles Murder-for-Hire Case

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:12pm

The verdict is in. Today, Sept. 11, a jury found Lil Durk, the Grammy-winning rapper on trial for plotting to kill rapper Quando Rondo as revenge for King Von’s murder, not guilty. The result came after three days of deliberation.

In 2024, Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, 33, was arrested and charged in connection with a 2022 shooting. By the time his federal trial began, he faced five counts related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting Rondo and the resulting death of Saviay’a Robinson.

According to Pitchfork, prosecutors argued that Lil Durk worked with five others tied to his Only the Family collective to set in motion a plan to kill Tyquian Bowman, a rival Atlanta rapper known as Quando Rondo. The killing, they said, was revenge for the 2020 murder of Durk’s friend, Dayvon “King Von” Bennett.

Per the outlet, “Timothy ‘Lul Timm’ Leeks, who prosecutors said was ‘an associate’ of Bowman’s, was later charged with killing Von. Those charges were eventually dropped.”

According to prosecutors, the alleged plot ended in the mistaken death of Bowman’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, who was 24 years old and shot during the daylight hours on Aug. 19, 2022, near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.

In a report from ABC Eyewitness News, Banks’ team argued that his former personal assistant, Kavon Grant, was the person who set up the murder-for-hire plot.

If convicted, Banks would have faced a life sentence in federal prison. Although Banks was acquitted in the murder-for-hire case, he remains in federal custody as he awaits a separate trial on racketeering charges that were severed from this case.

Lil Durk, who won his Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024, was working with defense attorney Drew Findling, along with defense lawyers Christy O’Connor and Brian Steel, who collectively praised the court process and commended the judge for a thorough review.

Archaeologists Discover Untouched 600-Year-Old Tombs in Peru

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:09pm

The discovery of 600-year-old Peruvian tombs, untouched by looters for centuries, has been dubbed the “discovery of the decade.”

The ancient mausoleum was unearthed under a ruined citadel on the northern coast of the Central American country. Although the site, Chan Chan, has been excavated for decades, this is the first time an undisturbed tomb has been found in the area that was once the capital of the Chimu kingdom.

According to archaeologists, the tombs contained 38 bodies—believed to be those of the Chimu elite—in a more than 3,000-square-foot mausoleum.

“It was a feeling of anxiety and urgency, to know if we were really in front of a chamber that had never been looted,” Jorge Meneses, the lead archaeologist on the dig, said. “

He later told El País, “A find like this is very important because, generally, what was known about elite burials in Chimú society came from looted platforms, private collections, and museum holdings, and there was no scientific data on the individuals and their corresponding artifacts and associations.”

According to the outlet, the platform belonged to a civilization that flourished between 900 and 1470 AD, before Inca expansion.

“This is the discovery of the decade in terms of it’s the very first time that, as archaeologists, we are able to see an elite Chimu burial,” Gabriel Prieto, a professor of anthropology at the University of Florida, told the New York Times. Prieto was not involved in the research.

1965 Folk Rock Song, Written in New York City During Winter, Is Still an Iconic Hit 61 Years Later

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:08pm

The Mamas & the Papas’ 1965 song “California Dreamin’” is a folk rock track that went on to become one of the era’s most iconic songs and has stood the test of time with generations of listeners.

Decades later, the song that helped establish the quartet as one of the most influential acts of the 1960s continues to earn recognition, including a spot on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Securing the No. 420 ranking, “California Dreamin’” was described by the publication as “one of the all-time sunniest songs of longing,” blending a melancholic atmosphere with bright pop vocal harmonies, while the lyrics presented a stark contrast to the cold, bleak winter.

Interestingly, the song was inspired by the personal experience of married couple John and Michelle Phillips, who would later become the vocalists of The Mamas & the Papas.

In 1963, the newlyweds wrote the song while living through a cold New York winter and longing for the warmth of Los Angeles, with Michelle especially longing for her native California.

It was one of the songs that they set aside and forgot about until they signed with a record label.

“We were completely out of money,” Michelle Phillips told The Strange Brew. “We had ‘California Dreamin’ at that point. John and I had written that a couple of years before, but it was kind of one of those songs that we wrote, we threw it in the drawer and kind of forgot about it.”

After signing with the record company, the band initially released “Go Where You Wanna Go” as their first single, but it had a slow start and failed to chart.

This was when “California Dreamin’” was released later that year as a standalone single.

“So we signed on to Dunhill Records, and ‘California Dreamin’ was released,” the female vocalist recalled. “We heard it on the radio once and then we didn’t hear it. We were just about to give up on it when it broke in Boston. And when that broke in Boston, it broke all over the United States and all over the world.”

They eventually released it as part of their debut album, If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears, in 1966.

Although the song didn’t reach No. 1, landing at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, it was a proud moment for The Mamas & the Papas since they were competing with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

“Even though it was a huge hit, it never got to number one. It got number four,” Michelle Phillips shared. “That’s as far as it got. But you can’t imagine the kind of people we were up against. We were against The Beatles. We were against The Stones. We were up against everybody at Motown. It was all English invasion. If you got your record to number four on the Billboard charts, you were thrilled. And we were.”

She also added that John Phillips then wrote “Monday, Monday,” which became their only No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tom Cruise's Upcoming Movie 'Digger' Has the Internet Convinced It's Hiding a Major Secret

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 8:04pm

Something about Tom Cruise’s upcoming movie has the internet feeling a little suspicious.

With Digger arriving in theaters next month, social media users have become convinced that the film is secretly a musical.

Author and creator Jason Pargin recently broke down the theory on Instagram, pointing to several suspiciously theatrical moments in the trailer, including scenes where Cruise and other cast members appear as though they could be dancing or singing. “If this film is a musical, that is a fiercely kept secret,” Pargin said, stressing that he wasn’t claiming the theory was true.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jason Pargin (@jasonkpargin)

He also pointed to the cast as potential evidence. Riz Ahmed has a lengthy career as a rapper, while Sandra Hüller has recorded music and Jesse Plemons has his own musical background.

Pargin compared the speculation to Wonka, whose early marketing downplayed its musical elements.

And he isn’t alone in wondering; plenty of fans agreed.

“You referring to the possibility of the movie actually being a musical as an ‘ugly rumor’ is exactly why they don’t want to call it a musical,” one claimed in the comments.

“Dammit Pargin, you are almost certainly correct,” a second said.

Another stated, “🙄 It just looks like another Alejandro Inarritu movie. That’s a style, not a musical. He is extremely creative that’s why it doesn’t look normal. Watch BIRDMAN please. 🙄.”

Sean Ono Lennon even chimed in, saying “It’s not a musical.”

Unfortunately for anyone already picturing Cruise breaking into a big musical number, the mystery may have been solved. Variety spoke with two sources familiar with the production on Friday, September 11, who confirmed that Digger isn’t a musical, although both were reportedly amused by the online detective work.

There is still plenty of mystery surrounding the movie itself. Cruise plays the nearly unrecognizable title character under heavy prosthetics, with Alejandro G. Iñárritu directing. The cast also includes John Goodman and Michael Stuhlbarg alongside Ahmed, Hüller, and Plemons.

The only way to really find out the truth is to watch Digger once it hits theaters on October 2.

TSA Considers Ending Major Rule That Has Frustrated Travelers for 20 Years

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:37pm

For frequent fliers, few travel rituals are as familiar, or as irritating, as tossing out a perfectly good bottle of water before clearing airport security. That could soon change.

The TSA is considering allowing some PreCheck travelers to bring full water bottles through security checkpoints at select airports equipped with advanced CT scanners, the New York Times reported on Thursday, September 10.

Senior administration officials told CBS News that the possible change would initially apply only at checkpoints equipped with advanced CT screening technology. For now, though, travelers should continue to follow the existing liquid restrictions.

Could TSA PreCheck Travelers Bring Full Water Bottles?

Under the proposal, eligible PreCheck travelers could eventually pass through certain security checkpoints without emptying their water bottles first, the New York Post reported. The change has not been finalized, and officials have not identified which airports could participate.

CBS News reported that TSA is actively considering the move for airports with scanners that can distinguish water from other liquids and detect potential threats. Former TSA Administrator John Pistole has also said the agency has been examining possible changes to its liquid restrictions, according to The New York Times.

Which Airports Could Get the New TSA Rule?

— ABC News (@ABC) September 9, 2026

The potential rollout would be limited at first. TSA does not currently have enough advanced screening equipment for a nationwide change, even if the policy initially applied only to PreCheck passengers. Funding is another hurdle, according to CBS News.

That means travelers could face different rules depending on the airport they use. “A new level of confusion coming. Airport + PreCheck variables. Oh my,” one Reddit user wrote. “In Newark I was able to bring water but in Boise I cannot. It is not fair.”

Is TSA’s 3-1-1 Liquid Rule Still in Effect?

Yes. According to the official site, the existing 3-1-1 rule remains in place, meaning most carry-on liquids must still be in containers of 3.4 ounces or less and packed according to TSA requirements. The agency is not currently preparing to eliminate liquid limits across the board.

Travelers should continue arriving with empty reusable bottles unless TSA announces otherwise for their specific checkpoint.

The prospect is already getting plenty of attention online, with travelers sounding both amused and cautiously optimistic about what a change could mean.

A frustrated traveler wrote, “Considering. It should be allowed back a long time ago. It’s a darn water bottle.”

One Reddit user joked, “What will they yell at us about now that we can bring waters?” Another commenter summed up the mood more simply: “Welcome to 2026, USA.”

Others were more focused on how uneven airport rules could make things confusing. One Redditor wrote, “Some airports won’t implement the rule, and you’re expected to know who is or isn’t enforcing this rule this week.”

Another added, “Sounds great, but I am conditioned to carry an empty bottle through security.”

For some travelers, the potential shift also raised hopes that broader liquid restrictions could eventually ease. “I don’t care about water, but bringing my normal hair products on flights would be awesome,” one person wrote.

And for at least one traveler, the perk could be enough to justify signing up for expedited screening. “This might finally convince me to get TSA PreCheck, to be honest,” the Reddit user wrote.

Another chimed in and wrote, “Much-needed change. How much money people by throwing a bottle before screening and then buying another after getting in the airport. Some of the rules have made airport travel expensive for basic needs. There are bottle filling stations but not everyone carries a bottle.”

Any change would represent a notable shift in rules travelers have followed for roughly two decades. For now, though, the full-water-bottle era remains a possibility rather than official TSA policy.

Lady Gaga Welcomes Baby No. 1 With Fiance Michael Polansky

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:32pm

Lady Gaga is officially Mama Gaga!

The Grammy Award winner, 40, welcomed her first child with fiancé Michael Polansky, Page Six reported on Friday, September 11. While little is known about Gaga’s new baby, the couple have been engaged since March 2024.

The couple was photographed in Northern California on Thursday, September 10, with a baby strapped to Gaga’s chest.

Gaga—real name Stefani Germanotta—opened up about her desire to become a mother in a March 2025 interview with the New York Times.

“I’m excited to be a mom,” Gaga said at the time. “I used to have a lot of apprehension about it. The thing that’s the most important to me is to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing. So the more that we can give them space to discover who they are on their own, that’s the thing that I believe in the most.”

She added, “I’m also kind of at war with myself sometimes as I get ready to, hopefully, become a mom soon. Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me. There’s an incredible amount of narcissism in this. How do I live a life where I’m passionate about my art while also making more space for other things?”

Later that year, the “Bad Romance” artist told Stephen Colbert during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that she hoped motherhood would be her “next starring role.”

“I would like to do many things,” she said. “All of these things are open. But, what I really want is to be a mom.”

Gaga and Polansky met in December 2019, and their relationship progressed quickly. After three years of dating, Polansky proposed during a rock-climbing trip in April 2024.

Should You Replace Your Driver’s License After the Massive Data Breach at IDScan?

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:30pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

A driver’s license is something most people carry without thinking much about the information printed on it. That changes when a company holding millions of license records reports a breach.

On Sept. 10, TechCrunch reported that hackers stole driver’s licenses from identity-verification company IDScan’s cloud systems. The stolen information includes full names and driver’s license numbers, as well as identification numbers from other government-issued documents such as passports. The FBI is investigating, while IDScan says its own investigation is ongoing.

The reported scale is substantial, but IDScan has not disclosed how many individuals were affected. The company says it holds more than 150 million driver’s license records, but that is not the same as confirming 150 million victims.

If you’re concerned about your information, there are practical steps you can take now. Replacing your license might be one of them—but it isn’t the only one.

If you want an additional layer of monitoring while you assess your exposure, Aura currently offers a 14-day free trial of its identity-protection plans.

What happened in the IDScan data breach?

IDScan provides identity-verification technology that businesses use to check government-issued identification. According to TechCrunch, the company confirmed hackers stole driver’s licenses from its cloud environment. The stolen information includes names, driver’s license numbers and identification numbers from other government documents.

The breach came to light after cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs reported finding a website on the dark web that allowed searches of driver’s license information for more than 150 million people in the United States and Canada, including photographs. Krebs verified the authenticity of the information by examining his own record.

IDScan said it received information about a hacking claim around Sept. 1, the same day Krebs first reported the breach. The company says its investigation is still underway and has not reported how many individuals were affected.

Should I replace my driver’s license after a data breach?

Not automatically. A data breach does not mean every consumer needs a new driver’s license. Check your state DMV’s instructions and any official notice you receive. If your license information was exposed, consider additional protections, as replacing the physical card cannot remove information that has already been stolen.

Can you actually get a new driver’s license number?

In most places, ordering a standard replacement card simply reprints your existing driver’s license number. However, some state motor vehicle agencies will issue a brand-new number if you present official documentation of active identity theft.

Other states place a security alert on your driving record instead. Contact your local state DMV to confirm specific policies and report suspected fraud through USAGov.

Does replacing your driver’s license prevent identity theft?

No. A replacement card addresses the credential itself, not personal information that may already have been stolen. If your name, license number or other identifying information was exposed, you should also consider monitoring your credit and financial accounts and using safeguards such as a credit freeze or fraud alert.

The Federal Trade Commission says a credit freeze can make it harder for an identity thief to open new accounts in your name. Freezes are free to place and lift, do not affect your credit score and remain in effect until you remove them.

A fraud alert tells businesses to verify your identity before opening new credit in your name. An initial fraud alert is free and lasts one year.

Protection

What it does

What it doesn’t do

Replace your license

Replaces the physical credential when your DMV recommends it

Remove information already copied

Credit freeze

Restricts access to your credit report

Prevent every form of identity theft

Fraud alert

Requires additional identity verification for new credit

Block every fraudulent transaction

Identity monitoring

Alerts you to certain suspicious activity

Guarantee that identity theft won’t occur

If you want help watching for suspicious activity while you handle these safeguards, Aura offers monitoring across areas including credit, finances and personal information. Start your free trial today.

What can criminals actually do with a stolen driver’s license?

A stolen driver’s license gives criminals key details—like your full name, date of birth and license number—to commit identity theft. Scammers can open bank accounts or credit cards in your name, create counterfeit fake IDs or build synthetic identities. In some cases, thieves use stolen license details during traffic stops or police interactions, leaving you with unexpected fines or a compromised driving record.

Does a REAL ID protect you against data breaches?

No. A REAL ID is designed to prevent physical counterfeiting and meet federal security standards for airport checkpoints, not safeguard digital records. Security features like holograms and embedded barcodes only verify physical cards in person. They offer zero protection against digital data breaches. If a company storing your scanned REAL ID suffers a cloud breach, your personal information remains vulnerable.

What should you do after the IDScan breach?

If you’re concerned that your information could be involved, focus on actions that address potential misuse of your identity.

Check Your Credit Reports

Look for unfamiliar accounts, inquiries or other changes. The FTC recommends checking your credit reports after certain data breaches and watching for accounts you don’t recognize.

Consider a Credit Freeze

A freeze is free and available to anyone, even without evidence of identity theft. You need to contact Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to place one.

Review Existing Financial Accounts

A credit freeze primarily addresses new credit accounts. Continue reviewing bank and credit-card statements for unauthorized activity.

Follow Official Breach Guidance

The FTC directs consumers who receive a data-breach notification to IdentityTheft.gov/databreach for individualized guidance.

For people who want ongoing monitoring rather than checking every account manually, Aura’s services monitor credit, financial and personal information and send alerts when something looks unusual.

If you’re still unsure whether your information is exposed, reviewing your monitoring options now gives you another way to watch for potential problems.

What if you find signs of identity theft?

Treat unfamiliar accounts, credit inquiries or financial activity as a reason to investigate promptly. A data breach does not mean identity theft has occurred, but unexpected activity can indicate that someone is using your information.

Contact the affected company or financial institution through an official channel and report suspected identity theft through IdentityTheft.gov. The FTC provides a recovery plan based on your situation.

So, should you replace your driver’s license?

Don’t replace your license solely because of the IDScan headline unless your DMV or an official notification tells you to do so. The confirmed breach is serious, but IDScan has not disclosed how many people were affected. The 150 million figure refers to the driver’s license records the company says it holds, not a confirmed victim count.

If your information was exposed, replacing the card may still be appropriate, but it should be one step in a broader response.

Check your DMV’s guidance, review your credit reports, consider a credit freeze or fraud alert and watch your accounts for unfamiliar activity. If you want ongoing monitoring, compare Aura’s current plans and their features.

Aura currently offers a free trial, giving you a low-commitment way to evaluate its identity-monitoring and recovery features while the IDScan investigation continues.

Chad Michaels Reveals the Only Way She’d Ever Return to ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ (Exclusive)

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:19pm

Nearly 15 years ago, Chad Michaels entered the Werkroom of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4, exuberantly declaring, “Morning, bitches!” It was the start of what would become a life-changing journey of ups, downs, and many, many wigs. But the drag queen tells Parade the most lasting victory didn’t come from any Mini or Maxi challenge.

“There’s friendships that I made on that season, with queens from other seasons as well, that last to today,” Chad tells Parade in an exclusive interview as part of a partnership with BetUS. “Those I think are the most important things to draw from an experience like Drag Race. The experience itself, and the drama, and the joy, and the victory, and the tears, that’s all recorded. It’s all in a box somewhere. But what you take from it and carry with you forward is what’s really important, and those are the people, and those are the relationships. There’s nothing more important than a handful of people in your life at this point. And I’m just happy to say that I have that.”

Indeed, while the Drag Race experience may exist in a box somewhere, it’s up to people behind the scenes to determine how millions of people will be able to peek inside. The edit has been one of the biggest talking points for both contestants and fans of the Emmy-winning reality show, to the point where RuPaul even penned a tune called “Blame It On the Edit.” For what it’s worth, Chad says she has no qualms with the way she was portrayed in either of her seasons. But that’s due at least somewhat to the caution she exercised while shooting.

“I was very conscious,” she explains. “I was 41 when I went on the show. I had a lot more control of my emotions and a little bit more understanding of who I was as a person, so I was not a favorite of the show or the show producers. The people that worked with us for interviews always wanted more drama from me, and they got reality from me. I refused to give them.

“I went through three show producers. They kept handing me off because, from my perspective, they weren’t getting what they wanted. They weren’t getting the sound bites from me that they wanted. They weren’t getting the high level of drama from me, and I was very conscious of that. They would word questions and then reword questions to try to get a different reaction or elicit a different statement from you. But I stayed consistent. I wasn’t gonna compromise myself just to add drama to the show. It wasn’t necessary for me.”

While being far from the most dramatic queen of Season 4, to Chad’s point, she was one of only two contestants from her season immediately called back to return. Drag Race was putting up its very first all-star season, bringing together some of the biggest fan-favorites and most “robbed” queens for another shot at the crown. And the producers decided to try out a brand-new twist on the format for the returnees, having them compete as — and get eliminated as — pairs.

“We were all sideswiped by that,” Chad recounts. “None of us were expecting to compete in teams. We all went there with the intention and desire to compete as individuals. But you had to make the best of it, and luckily, I got paired up with my buddy, [Season 1’s Shannel], that I’d known a long time, and we had a freaking great time. I think the fans didn’t like it. Everybody has a different opinion about it. If I could change it, I wouldn’t, because that’s the timeline that we’re on. That’s how it happened, and I’m fine with it. And I actually had a good time. In spite of it all, I had a good time, and all’s well that ends well.”

To be fair, it did end very well for Chad. After losing out on the Season 4 crown to Sharon Needles, she made it all the way to the end yet again. And this time, she prevailed, becoming the first-ever all-star winner over Season 2 runner-up Raven.

As Chad mentions, the first season of Drag Race All Stars is one of its most polarizing, with many fans decrying the team format and how it both handcuffed and handicapped the queens. Perhaps seeing it as a make-good, many from that season have gone on to get another chance as an individual in future seasons, including Shannel, Jujubee, Alexis Mateo, Yara Sofia, Latrice Royale, Manila Luzon, and Pandora Boxx. Which begs the question: While Chad has already been inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame, would she ever be up for walking into the Werkroom again?

The answer, understandably, is complicated.

“I mean, no, yes, maybe, kinda,” she answers. “I don’t know, probably. I honestly don’t know. I have been approached, and the timing wasn’t right at the time. But I would never say never.”

After thinking it over, however, Chad specifies her return under one specific condition.

“You know what I would probably go back for?” she asks. “The grand finale. That I would not pass up. That makes me teary-eyed a little bit. The show, when it’s over, that’s when I’ll go back.”

Brooke Williamson Is Making a Years-Long Health Commitment for Bobby Flay: 'That's Love'

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:13pm

Brooke Williamson is going to some unexpected lengths to make life with Bobby Flay work.

During a September 8 appearance on Carson Kressley’s Off the Cuff podcast, Williamson revealed she’s undergoing allergy treatment because Flay’s beloved cats don’t exactly agree with her.

“I’ve been allergic to cats my whole life,” Williamson explained, adding that Flay’s Maine Coons make the situation particularly challenging. “These cats have more fur than you can ever imagine.”

Williamson even visited an allergist to explore allergy shots, which can gradually build tolerance. But because the treatment would have required weekly in-person appointments, that wasn’t practical for her schedule.

Instead, she said she was prescribed drops that she puts under her tongue every morning. “In 3 to 5 years, I should not be allergic to cats,” Williamson said. “That’s love,” Kressley joked.

Fans agreed with the latter comment.

“OK, she deserves that ring. I’m allergic to cats and I’m not sure I would do this,” one fan wrote in the comments of the clip on Instagram.

“BOBBY!!!!! She’s a keeper!!! Do not lose her!! ❤️❤️❤️,” said another.

A third said, “That’s love right there! I did have the injections and was very successful but yep, it’s quite a commitment.”

Flay has two very fluffy cats, Canelo and Stella, and has even given them their own nicknames. Canelo becomes “Canelli,” while Stella is affectionately known as “Go Go Boots” because of the white coloring extending up her back legs. “There’s no favorites,” Flay said. “They’re both just as important to me.”

Fortunately, Williamson appears to be planning on sticking around for the long haul, too. The chefs were friends and colleagues for years before their relationship became romantic, going public as a couple in March 2025.

Williamson also revealed in the episode that she’s shifting much of her life from Los Angeles to New York, where Flay lives. With her 18-year-old son Hudson attending New York University, she said she now has more flexibility to spend most of her time there.

1976 Pop Hit, Released Before ‘Grease,’ Launched a 22-Year-Old Singer's Solo Career

Fri, 09/11/2026 - 7:09pm

Before John Travolta was singing alongside Olivia Newton-John in Grease, he had already scored a hit of his own. In 1976, the 22-year-old released “Let Her In,” his first Top 10 solo single in the U.S.

“Let Her In” wasn’t Travolta’s first attempt at a music career. He released his debut single, “Dream Drummin’,” in 1974, but it failed to make a major impact. Several other releases followed without finding much success.

Two years later, “Let Her In” changed that. The song appeared on Travolta’s self-titled 1976 album and was written by Gary Benson, who had originally recorded and released it himself in 1973. Benson’s version did not chart, but Travolta’s recording reached a much wider audience.

“Let Her In” spent five months on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 10. It also reached No. 16 on the Adult Contemporary chart. On the Cash Box chart, the song performed even better, reaching No. 5.

The single was also successful in Canada, where it climbed to No. 7 on the RPM Top Singles chart. “Let Her In” came out while Travolta was starring as Vinnie Barbarino on Welcome Back, Kotter. The show had made him a rising TV star, and the song gave him his first real success as a singer.

Travolta’s next major breakthrough came two years later, when he starred as Danny Zuko opposite Newton-John in Grease, one of the biggest movie musicals of the era.

The soundtrack also gave Travolta several major hits, including “You’re the One That I Want,” his No. 1 duet with Newton-John, and “Summer Nights,” which reached the Top 5. “Greased Lightnin’” and “Sandy” were also released as singles, although neither matched the success of his biggest Grease songs.

Even with all those Grease hits, ‘Let Her In’ stayed Travolta’s only solo Top 10 hit in the U.S. The song later appeared on his 1978 compilation album, Travolta Fever, released after Grease made him a bigger star.

Travolta continued recording music after his Grease success. In 1980, he released “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again,” followed by several more singles and collaborations. In 1983, he reunited with Newton-John for “Take a Chance,” which appeared on the soundtrack to their film Two of a Kind. The song became another Top 5 hit for the pair.

Travolta also worked with Carly Simon on “Two Sleepy People” in 1997 and Miley Cyrus on “I Thought I Lost You” in 2008.
