Sam’s Club’s New Spring Cake Might Be the Prettiest Dessert in the Bakery

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:25pm

A new Sam’s Club bakery item is getting attention for its fresh look and seasonal flavor, and I'm here for it. As part of the store's 2026 spring bakery lineup, a gorgeous strawberry cake is flying off shelves already. This stunning cake is made for celebrations, and I think it would be the perfect pick for a Mother's Day party.

The timing also fits a bigger trend. Strawberry flavors are having a strong moment this season, especially in bakery items that feel light, fruity and a little nostalgic. That makes this Sam’s Club cake feel right on trend for spring desserts in 2026.

The new Member’s Mark 10-inch Strawberry Cake, shown by @samsclubfavorites on TikTok, is now available in the Sam’s Club bakery. It's made fresh in-club daily and designed to serve about 12 to 16 people, making it a practical choice for gatherings.

The cake features strawberry-flavored layers with strawberry buttercream. On top is a gorgeous red strawberry topping that adds a pop of color and sweetness. Piped rosettes decorate the edges, giving it a bakery-style finish that feels more premium than its price suggests. At $19.97, it's also an affordable option for a decorated celebration cake.

Many shoppers say it looks like something from a specialty bakery, and I don't disagree. The combination of presentation and flavor has made it one of the standout Sam’s Club bakery items this spring. It's especially popular as a Mother’s Day dessert idea, where a visually impressive cake is often the centerpiece of the meal.

Spring 2026 Bakery Trends and the Rise of Strawberry Cakes

The Sam’s Club cake is not the only strawberry dessert getting attention this season. Costco has its own strawberry pie, showing how major warehouse clubs are leaning into similar spring bakery themes in 2026.

Across the food world, strawberry is being used in more creative and nostalgic ways. It continues to appear in classic desserts like strawberries and cream cakes, but it's also showing up in more modern combinations. Some trends for spring 2026 include strawberry paired with floral flavors, pistachio, or even matcha in layered drinks and desserts.

This balance of comfort and freshness is part of what makes strawberry such a strong seasonal flavor. It feels familiar, but it still fits newer dessert styles that are more visual and shareable. That is especially true in bakery items that are designed to stand out in-store.

For Sam’s Club shoppers, this strawberry cake is an easy way to bring a seasonal dessert home without extra work.

’90s Rock Ballad Trilogy That Saved Its Band From Obscurity Ends With This Iconic Hit

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:24pm

If you’re like us, you spent the ’90sglued to MTV, where a certain hard rock band dominated the airwaves with one of the most iconic music video trilogies of all time. As the three-part storyline of "Cryin'," "Amazing," and "Crazy" unfolded, it also helped launch the careers of future stars Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler

Silverstone, just 16 at the time, stars in all three videos, each connected by a loose narrative thread. Her breakout moment came in the summer of 1993 with “Cryin’,” in which she plays a flannel-clad heroine who gets a bellybutton ring, dumps her loser boyfriend (played by Stephen Dorff), and beats up a purse snatcher. The video ends with a now-iconic bungee jump off a bridge and a defiant gesture that pretty much defines the rebellious era.

According to reports at the time, sales tripled after the video hit MTV.

Aerosmith made a hell of a lot of money off ['Cryin’']," Silverstone told Rolling Stone. "Their sales tripled or something. They would have been crazy not to ask me back."

That November, “Amazing” was released, shifting into a more futuristic tech vibe to reflect the rise of the Internet. In the video, a fanboy loads a tape of “Cryin’” into his computer, allowing him to then enter a metaverse where he interacts with a digital version of Silverstone. What follows is a surreal mix of fantasy, adventure, and romance before a plot twist is revealed. But we won’t spoil it.

Then, things got “Crazy.” In the third and final installment of the rock ballad trilogy, Silverstone plays a schoolgirl who skips out on class with her best friend, played by lead singer Steven Tyler’s daughter, Liv Tyler, also about 16 at the time. The two hit the road in a blur of freedom — shoplifting, skinny-dipping, pushing every boundary — that culminates in the seduction of a farmboy.

“By the time ‘Cryin’ hit MTV in the summer of 1993, it was clear Alicia was a new rock & roll muse,” Rolling Stone writes. The debut changed her life, leading to her role in Clueless. The success story is echoed in the rise of Liv Tyler, who was cast in Empire Records the following year, and then Armageddon in '98, for which her pops supplied the No. 1 hit original song.

“Crazy,” released May 3, 1994, on the band’s Get a Grip album, went on to win a Grammy and MTV Music Video Award. Climbing to No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, it cemented the band’s creative peak, as Far Out Magazine says, "Getting Silverstone into the ‘Cryin’ video turned Aerosmith from potential has-beens to rock icons all over again."

Today, the trilogy is still getting all the flowers it deserves, as it's hailed as the greatest rock video franchise of all time by Rolling Stone. It not only revitalized the band’s cultural moment, but helped launch two future stars — and remains a defining snapshot of MTV-era storytelling more than 30 years later. Doesn't get much better than that.

Legendary British Band to Play First North American Dates in 30 Years on Final Tour

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:19pm

Cabaret Voltaire is saying goodbye with their final tour but not before playing their first shows in North America in more than 30 years.

The pioneering British electronic act kicks off their final tour today (May 4) in Seattle before making stops in Vancouver, Portland, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Following the West Coast swing, they’re heading to Europe for a series of dates in Europe beginning in late May through June before returning to North America for additional shows in September in Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York and Philadelphia.

They’ll wrap their final tour slate of U.K. dates in October.

The band’s current lineup is led by founding member Stephen Mallinder on vocals, bass, keyboards and samples. He’ll be backed by Benge on keyboards and electric drums, Eric Random on keyboards and guitar, and Tara Busch from support act I Speak Machine on keyboards and samples.

“Cabaret Voltaire have always been a huge influence on ISM -- the grit, the raw electricity, not to mention their visuals and art direction -- and it’s truly thrilling to be supporting them in the US. I’m also very excited to be standing in for Chris Watson on synths & samples. I relish this as someone that loves performing and getting a deeper, ‘nerdier’ look at how sounds and songs are created and executed live by bands I love -- and Cabaret Voltaire is as good as it gets!” Busch said in a statement.

The group, named after a nightclub in Zurich, was formed in Sheffield, England in 1973 by Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk and Chris Watson, though that lineup varied during their career.

Watson initially left in 1981, but not before sharing the bill with like-minded bands like Joy Division. The then two-piece band called it quits in 1994. In 2009, Kirk revived the band as a solo project until his death in 2021 at the age of 65. Four years later, Watson and Mallinder regrouped to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary on Oct. 25, 2025, at the Sensoria Festival in Sheffield.

The group’s final tour supports their recently released live album, But What Time Is It Really?

Though he’s not performing on the final tour, Watson is encouraging fans to check out the recently released live effort. “This record captures the powerful essence of contemporary live performance and establishes a visceral connection to the history of the band,” he said in a statement.

“It was an opportunity to capture the shows as a unique moment in time but also give people the opportunity to have a memento. Something that presented sounds and music, with respect to Richard’s memory, that also transcended time,” Mallinder added.

Mark Ballas Eyes His Next Broadway Role As 'Chicago' Wraps

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:19pm

Mark Ballas wants to be in the room where it happens.

The Dancing with the Stars icon who just wrapped up his stint in 'Chicago: The Musical,' took to Instagram over the weekend, perhaps putting it out there, that he'll hit the 'Hamilton' stage next.

The post, where Ballas was dressed in a Revolutionary War-type uniform while rapping "Cabinet Battle #1" from the musical, was complete with the caption, "Hey Hamilton, just a friendly reminder that I am free as of May 4."

View this post on Instagram

And fans were totally here for it.

"I would be getting my tickets so fast," one said.

"Flight booked the minute this becomes a reality!" added another.

"I would sell a kidney to see you play Alexander Hamilton," joked a third.

Ballas also got support from fellowDWTSand Broadway stars including Derek Hough, Charlie D'Melio and Wayne Brady.

"I don’t want to see this, I must see this," Hough said.

Whitney Leavitt, Ballas' DWTS partner-turned-Chicago-co-star also commented, "Ayyyyeeeeeeeeeee."

This isn't the first time Ballas has put it out there that he's looking to suit up as Alexander Hamilton, a role that was originated by Lin Manuel Miranda in 2015.

In a recent episode of Instagram show, "What’s Poppin? with Davis!" the dancer and reality star also said that his dream role was Alexander Hamilton and proceeded to rap a verse featured in "My Shot" and "The World Was Wide Enough."

Aside from starring in 'Chicago,' alongside his former DWTS partner Leavitt, Ballas has also starred in ‘Jersey Boys’ in 2017 and ‘Kinky Boots’ in 2018 on Broadway.

He's also no stranger to the music of 'Hamilton' since he and Leavitt danced the foxtrot to "The Room Where It Happens" during Disney Night of Season 34 of the ballroom dance competition show.

And since the two also danced to 'Chicago,' ahead of Leavitt scoring the part of Roxy Hart, perhaps Ballas can manifest the same future for himself and the iconic role.

2001 Country Anthem Somehow Never Hit No. 1 on the Charts

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:12pm

One of Blake Shelton's most iconic songs never reached the No. 1 spot on the music charts.

"Ol' Red," a song from the country crooner's self-titled debut album, is considered one of his signature songs, but it didn't even crack the Top 10 on the Billboard county charts. Unlike the 30 No. 1 hits in his music catalog, "Ol' Red" never reached the summit, and instead peaked at No. 14 on the Country Airplay chart in 2002.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

"Ol' Red" was the third single off Shelton's first album, which also hosted hits like "Austin" and "All Over Me," which peaked at No. 1 and No. 18, respectively. "Ol' Red" was initially recorded by George Jones for his 1990 album, You Oughta Be Here With Me, and it was covered by Kenny Rogers in 1993 for his album If Only My Heart Had a Voice.

But the song is now heavily associated with Shelton, who even used the song title as inspiration for the name of his restaurant chain, Ole Red. The bar and live music venue has several locations across the U.S., including spots in Nashville, Orlando, Las Vegas, Gatlinburg and Shelton's hometown of Tishomingo, Okla.

View this post on Instagram

Despite not being his biggest chart success, there's no question that "Ol' Red" has a special spot in Shelton's heart. Even the singer himself has said that it's is one of his favorite songs from his entire catalog.

While making an appearance on Bobby Bones' BobbyCast podcast, Shelton named his top 5 songs from his own discography, with "Ol' Red" coming in at No. 3 on his list. His ranking also included "Mine Would Be You" at No. 5, "Who Are You When I’m Not Looking?" at No. 4, "The Baby" at No. 2 and "Austin" at No. 1.

‘The Rookie’ Season 9 Could Look Very Different With This Cast Exit

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 4:00pm

The Rookie has earned itself another season as ABC has renewed the procedural series for Season 9, which will continue telling the story of John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), formerly the oldest rookie on the LAPD, who now trains rookies, and the rest of the Mid-Wilshire Division of the LAPD.

Here's everything we know so far about The Rookie Season 9, including possible release date and cast.

When is The Rookie's Season 9 release date?

No official date has been set as yet. But The Rookie normally has a midseason release date, with Season 8 premiering on Jan. 6, 2026. So look for Season 9 most likely in January 2027.

What is the theme of The Rookie?

The official description: “John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, now uses his life experience, determination, and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20+ years his junior. John and the team must navigate the intense, unpredictable nature of their jobs and personal challenges, while uplifting the next generation of first responders.”

Who is in the cast of The Rookie Season 9?

While not confirmed, it is likely that the following will all be returning:

Nathan Fillion as John NolanAlyssa Diaz as Angela LopezRichard T Jones as Wade GreyMelissa O'Neil as Lucy ChenEric Winter as Tim BradfordMekia Cox as Nyla HarperShawn Ashmore as Wesley EversJenna Dewan as Bailey NuneLisseth Chavez as Celina JuarezDeric Augustine as Miles PennWho is leaving the cast of The Rookie Season 9?

Beloved villain Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan) was shot and killed in The Rookie Season 8 penultimate episode. Her machinations had gone on too long, and finally one of her victims -- though they are criminals themselves -- decided she had to die, so he hired an assassin to take her out on her way to the airport to what she thought was escape. The one request Monica made before the bullet took her life was, "not in the face."

“It felt like it was time. Ultimately, it felt like she’d escaped a lot of things,” showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Insider. “And I never like to just tread water or feel like we’re telling the same story over and over. So I think it just felt like it was a natural end. And yeah, it felt like we needed to give her a really powerful ending.”

In the same interview, Regan told TV Insider she wasn’t “surprised” by Monica’s death. Rather, “I was thrilled that she lasted as long as she did. If you play with fire as long as she has, eventually you’re going to get burned. And as I said to Alexi and everybody, I was like, ‘She’s not on her ninth life. She’s on her 37th. She’s escaped multiple assassinations and prison time and being thrown in a wood chipper.' But what I was surprised by was just how incredibly sad I was for her. Not that she died, but that she never truly flipped, that she actually succumbed to the dark side and couldn’t find her way back. And I felt like there was this version of Monica that could have been something else, but she just could never get there. So to me, that was the real heartbreak of it all.”

Is there a trailer for The Rookie Season 9?

There is no trailer as yet for Season 9 of The Rookie, as it hasn't actually filmed yet. When the trailer for the new season is released, we'll post it immediately. Keep checking back.

1975 Classic Ranked No. 1 'Best Summer Movie' Marked a 'Turning Point in Motion Picture History'

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:57pm

When I say the name Steven Spielberg, what comes to mind? If you're like most people, you picture him as he is now. This grand patriarch of the American blockbuster, in his older years acting as a kindly grandfather to the cinematic medium. Somebody we all revere and respect for his amazing contributions to film and culture.

He didn't start this way, obviously. There was the grind that every director faces, and the eventual big break. It takes a lot to become Steven Spielberg, and what I most often find myself picturing when I think of the legendary filmmaker is the sheer INSANITY that was the production of his breakout, medium-altering film, Jaws.

It's hard to divorce Jaws from the cultural position it holds now. It's gotten to a point of borderline collective unconscious, skyrocketing the public fear of sharks, defining the way in which films are released now, and helping to establish and make mainstream key ideas of filmmaking.

Today, we see Jaws everywhere. IMDb ranked Jaws as the greatest summer film of all time on their 50 Best Summer Movies list, and I think it is well-deserved. A Fourth of July celebration isn't truly complete to me without seeing Jaws again.

When I got to catch Jaws in time for its 50th anniversary re-release, I had a very special experience watching it at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston on 35mm. I got to see such a cultural landmark on actual film, and it really made me both appreciate and connect with the film even further. After walking out, I could only describe it as "the most unimpeachable a classic could be."

So it's difficult to go back and recognize how scrappy, risky, and borderline delusional Spielberg's direction on this film was. I guess pressure truly does make diamonds, as one of the most tumultuous production stories of all time lead to arguably the most important blockbuster ever. So what is the story of Jaws?

The Making of 'Jaws'

Peter Benchley's novel Jaws was a massive commercial success. Despite mixed critical opinions, the book was a sensation, and naturally was pitched for a film adaptation. A few directors came up in conversation to be attached to the project, but one came out of the woodwork who really wanted it. Twenty-six-year-old Steven Spielberg, fresh off his first theatrical release and second feature film, The Sugarland Express.

Looking to adapt the novel to a screenplay, the only part of the story that really stayed consistent was the shark hunt sequence, which takes up the entire third act of the story. Besides that, the screenplay deviated a good amount to re-contextualize the story and develop a stronger camaraderie between the three main characters.

Moving into production, Spielberg had a vision that would both immortalize the film and make production an ordeal likely never to be replicated. He wanted to shoot ON the ocean. The real, live, actual ocean. Constructing a full animatronic shark, and headed out to the coast of Martha's Vineyard with 2 fully constructed boats to be used as sets, one of the most legendary sequences in film history was created.

Becoming the first major motion picture to shoot on the ocean presented some incredible difficulties. For starters, the shark didn't work. It frequently broke down and malfunctioned, bringing production to a halt and causing the crew to pivot into some alternative ways of showing the shark, one of which becoming the iconic yellow barrels used by the crew of the Orca to keep track of the shark.

The ocean also presented its own issues, including weather delays, random boats showing up in the shot causing even more setbacks, and a 5-million dollar increase over budget, which in todays money is more like 35 million. The film's principle photography was only scheduled to take 55 days, which ballooned all the way to 159 days of production. This led to the film's crew starting to call the project "Flaws."

The Legacy of 'Jaws'

Upon release, Jaws invented the summer blockbuster. Due to a successful TV marketing campaign and a wide theatrical release, Jaws defined the summer of 1975. Its massive success ushered in a new era of Hollywood where summer was the time to release the massive budget, massive concept, and massive appeal films that we are still seeing today. Beyond its commercial revolutionization of the film industry, the film has endured a lasting legacy as a touchstone of summertime.

Standing the test of time, Jaws is emblematic of the merit of trying. No idea is too crazy to work, as long as you're crazy enough to bring it to life. Spielberg's career exploded after this, and he began to create one of the most iconic filmographies of any director out there. When you dare to try, incredible things can happen.

11 Gorgeous '70s Makeup Looks, Updated for 2026

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:53pm

Clean girl aesthetics and barely-there makeup may have ruled the last few years, but Studio 54 energy is officially staging a comeback. Heading into summer, expect Instagram feeds and red carpets to shift into full ’70s makeup looks, with lots of glittery lids, bold natural brows, sun-warmed skin and graphic white liner. The difference this time is all in the execution—the drama is still there, just refined, softened and made wearable for 2026.

And the timing couldn’t be more intentional. According to Google Trends, searches for "70s makeup" have surged over 5000%, signaling a very clear pivot away from minimalism and back toward expressive, personality-driven beauty. It’s not about recreating the decade exactly—it’s about pulling the best parts forward and updating them for how we actually wear makeup now.

Because in the 1970s, makeup was a loud expression of the era. On one end of the spectrum, icons like Donna Summer and Diana Ross brought full disco makeup drama with spiky lashes, metallic lids and blush that survived the entire night on the dance floor. On the softer side, Farrah Fawcett defined effortless sun-kissed minimalism. It was a choose-your-own-beauty-moment, and this '70s aesthetic revival is bringing it all back.

If you’re ready to lean into a little shimmer and self-expression again, this is your starting point. Ahead, pro makeup artists break down 11 iconic makeup looks from the '70s that making a comeback—and exactly how to wear them now.

What Defined Iconic '70s Makeup?

'70s makeup wasn’t about perfect symmetry or precision—it was about energy, expression and a little bit of beautiful imperfection. As Amanda Gabbard, celebrity makeup artist and esthetician who has glammed the likes of Kamala Harris and Brooke Shields, explains, "skin was fresh, bright and real, while eyes or lips took the focus," creating a balance that felt effortless rather than overly constructed.

"Nothing was overly structured," she says, and the goal was always to enhance, not mask. Think sun-kissed skin, glossy lids and lips, playful washes of color and lashes piled on top and bottom to frame the eyes.

Celebrity makeup artistNatalie Dresher (who has worked with Campbell Puckett and Kouvr), echoes that sentiment, noting that the era was defined by "bold colors, washes of frost and experimenting with bold geometrical shapes and colors."

From metallic shimmer to pastel eyes and unexpected color placements, nothing was off-limits. It was makeup that showcased your mood—and that spirit is exactly what’s being revived today, just with a softer, more wearable twist.

Which '70s Makeup Trends Are Making a Comeback?

Gabbard says there's a move to "luminous, hydrated skin instead of matte finishes" as the foundation of the look. From there, metallic and glitter eyes are back, but "used strategically, not overdone," giving just enough shimmer to catch the light without tipping into full disco overload.

High-placement blush is also resurfacing, lifting the face in a way that feels fresh and slightly sculpted, while defined lower lashes bring back that soft, wide-eyed '70s openness without heavy liner. The finish is kept easy with sheer, glossy lips that feel more lived-in than lacquered.

What makes the comeback feel so current is how texture is being reinterpreted. Dresher points out that "frosts are huge right now, whether it’s frosty eyeshadow or pearlescent lipsticks," but the modern approach is softer and more blended than the stark finishes of the past.

Even brown lipsticks are having a moment again, acting as a neutral base that still "deliver[s] a bit of color to the face" without overwhelming it. It’s that balance—shine without weight, color without heaviness—that’s defining the new wave of 1970s beauty.

How To Wear Retro Makeup Without Looking Dated

The secret to making '70s makeup feel modern is restraint—don't overdo it. "If you pair too many '70s trends together it can start to look dated or costume-y," Dresher says, which is where most retro looks go wrong—they lean too literal instead of selective.

Instead, "Pairing a frosted lipstick with a matte, crisp liner can modernize an otherwise ‘older’ look," explains Dresher, while "pairing a frosty shadow with no liner gives a modern look."

That idea of balance carries through every step of application. Lori Taylor Davis, Smashbox Global Pro Lead Artist, breaks it down simply: "The key is balance—keep one element retro, and the rest modern." That might mean glossy skin with a bold eye, or a disco-inspired lid paired with a clean nude lip.

Skin, in particular, should stay current—think sheer coverage, spot correction so the complexion still looks like skin, just enhanced. Even tools like liner should feel intentional rather than heavy-handed, with metallics or soft washes of color doing more work than thick definition.

11 Best '70s Makeup Looks, Updated for 20261. Best Frosted Pastel Eyes

Frosted pastels are having a full-circle moment. Gabbard explains that "soft color with a reflective finish is very '70s, and very current," especially when pastels are kept sheer and luminous instead of chalky or flat.

The trick is all in the blend—she recommends using cream or liquid shadows and diffusing the edges with a neutral tone so the color feels like a wash rather than a block. The result is playful, light-catching and exactly the kind of eye that feels nostalgic without looking stuck in the past.

2. Best Glossy Nude Lips

Jamie McCarthy/WireImage

This is the kind of lip that quietly steals the spotlight. Gabbard calls it "effortless and flattering," noting how it works seamlessly with both minimal and bold eyes depending on the mood.

The application stays soft—lined just enough for shape, a nude base for balance and gloss layered on top for that high-shine finish, with a subtle cupid’s bow overline to enhance fullness. The payoff is modern, fresh and endlessly wearable.

3. Best Disco Blush

Doug Peters/PA Images via Getty Images

Blush in the '70s wasn’t shy, and it isn’t now either. "High placement blush lifts the face and adds energy," explains Gabbard, especially when applied high on the cheekbones and swept toward the temples.

Cream formulas give that lived-in flush. And when topped with a soft powder or highlighter? The effect becomes multidimensional rather than flat. It’s sculpting, but with color instead of contour.

4. Best Soft Smudged Smoky Eye

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for SXSW

Davis recommends leaning into imperfection here, calling it "perfectly imperfect" look, which is "exactly the goal." The modern smoky eye is less about precision and more about softness, using cream shadow sticks, eyeliner and mascara that can be smudged before it sets.

The finish should feel lived-in, slightly blurred and intentionally undone—like it evolved throughout the night rather than being painted on once and left alone.

5. Best (Faux) Sun-Kissed Glow

Gilbert Flores/2026GG/Penske Media via Getty Images

This is the I’ve-been-outside-all-day look, without actually baking in the sun. Davis is clear that "glow should look natural, not overdone," which is why placement matters more than intensity. Instead of layering product everywhere, the focus is strategic—mattifying primer stays in the T-zone to control shine where needed, while the rest of the face is left to breathe with a healthy, believable luminosity.

Tinted moisturizer evens things out without masking skin and cream contour plus a soft highlight bring back warmth and dimension. The goal is bronzed dimension that mimics real life.

6. Best Ultra-Defined Eyeliner

Gilbert Flores/Variety/Penske Media via Getty Images

This is where '70s experimentation gets a sharper, more modern edge. Instead of heavy, all-around liner, the focus is on controlled definition that shapes the eye without closing it in.

Think precision at the lash line, subtle flicks that lift rather than drag and a finish that feels intentional but not overdrawn. The modern update keeps the graphic spirit of the decade, but pares it back so it enhances expression instead of overpowering it.

7. Best Glitter Eyeshadow

JC Olivera/Variety via Getty Images

Davis is all-in on glittery eyeshadow, calling the look "unapologetic disco," defined by the "bold, reflective and high-impact, Studio 54 vibes." But the 2026 version is all about control beneath the sparkle.

The key is "anchoring shimmer on a primed, slightly tacky base" so it stays put and doesn’t migrate. From liquid liner to shimmer sticks layered over soft base tones, everything is built to catch light strategically rather than scatter it everywhere. The result is maximum shine, minimal mess and all the payoff of disco without the fallout drama.

8. Best High-Gloss Glam

Taylor Hill/FilmMagic

Gloss is no longer just a lip moment—it’s a full-face philosophy. As Davis explains, the goal is to "keep gloss and glow on the same high points for cohesion." Skin starts luminous with hydrating primer and tinted moisturizer, then builds into subtle sculpting with cream blush and highlight placed on the high points of the face.

And of course, lips are layered with high-shine gloss to tie everything together. You want your skin to look reflective in a way that feels dewy, not slippery.

9. Best Spiky Bottom Lashes

Karwai Tang/WireImage

Bold bottom lashes are pure '70s nostalgia with a playful edge. Gabbard calls it the "Twiggy effect," adding that it’s "the fastest way to create a wide-eyed, vintage feel."

The technique is simple but impactful—lower lashes are coated in mascara, then gently separated into small, defined spikes for that graphic, doll-like finish. It instantly opens the eyes and brings back that exaggerated lower-lash moment that defined the decade’s most iconic beauty looks.

10. Best Glossy Plum Lip

JC Olivera/WWD via Getty Images

A deep lip is one of those ’70s callbacks that immediately adds attitude—but the modern version is all about softness, not sharp edges. Davis explains that it should feel "retro but still modern," which comes down to how it’s applied.

Instead of a strict outline, the color is pressed and blended so it fades slightly at the edges, creating that lived-in stain effect. A liner builds structure, while gloss layered on top keeps it juicy and dimensional rather than flat or matte. The result is rich without feeling heavy, moody without feeling strict—the kind of lip that looks better the more you move.

11. Best Bohemian Skin Look

Gilbert Flores/Billboard via Getty Images

This is the closest thing to effortless beauty in the entire '70s lineup. Gabbard’s philosophy here is simple: "Resist the urge to perfect." Instead, skin should be kept sheer and breathable with a slight tint, while brows are brushed up rather than sculpted into place and lips get just a touch of balm for subtle life.

Even base products are customized—foundation is often mixed with shimmer for a bronzy glow that melts into skin instead of sitting on top of it. Cream bronzer is swept across cheeks, temples and even eyelids for a cohesive, sun-warmed effect. It’s simple in the most intentional way possible—exactly what makes it feel so current.

Popeyes Permanently Brings Back Beloved Menu Item After Fan Demand, Including a Brand-New Flavor

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:51pm

The fans have spoken, and Popeyes is giving them what they want, bringing back a popular limited-time menu item and adding it to its permanent rotation. The chicken chain has added its beloved chicken wraps back to the menu permanently in two existing flavors, classic and spicy, as well as introducing a new take on the handheld food item.

Blackened ranch sauce is now an option on the wraps, which feature crisp lettuce, shredded cheese, and two barrel-cured pickles alongside a Popeyes hand-breaded and battered, Louisiana-style crunchy chicken tender, all in a buttermilk tortilla. The wraps come in at an affordable $3.99 each, though if you’re looking for a larger meal, you can bump up to a meal deal for $9.99, which includes two wraps and a premium lemonade at participating restaurants.

“We know our guests are looking for convenience without sacrificing great taste and value, which is why we're thrilled to be giving Popeyes Chicken Wraps a permanent place on the menu year-round,” said Peter Perdue, President of Popeyes U.S. and Canada. “This bold addition expands our line-up with more variety, flexible options and the classic Louisiana flavor only Popeyes can deliver.”

This isn’t the first time Popeyes has brought back a popular menu item to please fans; in February, customers saw the return of the limited-time seafood menu and the cult-favorite fried pickles. The Mardi Gras-themed menu included a flounder fish sandwich in regular or spicy versions, a butterfly shrimp tacklebox, and a surf-and-turf option featuring both shrimp and chicken tenders.

If you prefer sandwiches over wraps, Popeyes also has two new limited-time sandwiches that it’s adding to the menu for the summer. The traditional honey BBQ sandwich pairs Popeyes crispy chicken with a sweet and smoky honey BBQ sauce on toasted brioche buns with barrel-cured pickles for $5.49. If you’d like to add an extra pop of flavor, for $6.99, you can get all of that plus bacon and Havarti cheese.

Emma Chamberlain's Met Gala Dress Is A Daring Work of Art

The theme for the evening is Costume Art, with the official dress code for the Met Ball being "Fashion Is Art," and Chamberlain nailed the concept with her dramatic, impressionism-inspired look.

The dress starts bare at the shoulders, with her decolletage covered by paintbrush strokes of bright yellow before careening down her body to a lush train of colorful ruffles.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the dress, however, is the long fringe sleeves that fade to a dark blue as they cascade to the floor.

Chamberlain kept her hair and makeup toned-down to let the dress shine. Her platinum-blonde pixie cut was worn tousled, and her makeup was all about neutrals in contrast with her bright look, with a brown smokey eye and nude lip. She topped off the look with dazzling diamond chandelier earrings.

Chamberlain set the tone for fashion's biggest night, arriving early to walk the carpet before taking her post once again as the Vogue live stream red carpet correspondent. She later removed the bottom of her dress, presumably to allow for more movement while interviewing other celebrities on the carpet.

Meryl Streep Speaks Out on Missing 2026 Met Gala After ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Release

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:38pm

Meryl Streep, a three-time Academy Award-winning actress, is one of the most prominent women in Hollywood, yet she has never attended the annual Met Gala. According to her representatives, this year will be no different.

Following the May 1 premiere of Streep's latest film, The Devil Wears Prada 2—the sequel to the 2006 cult classic—fans had high hopes that the star would make her debut appearance at the event. In the film, Streep reprises her role as Miranda Priestly, the calculated fashionista and editor-in-chief for Runway magazine. Streep's character is famously inspired by Anna Wintour, fashion revolutionary, editor-in-chief of Vogue and director of the Met Gala.

Since the release of the first film, Streep and Wintour have nurtured a friendship. The pair has collaborated on several projects throughout the last 20 years. In 2020, Streep was announced as a co-chair for the Met Gala alongside Wintour, but the event was cancelled following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Monday morning, Streep's representative reached out to People magazine, confirming that Streep would miss another Gala. The representative revealed that while Streep has never attended the event, receiving an invitation was never the issue; she simply does not believe she would fit in.

“Meryl has been invited to the Met Gala for many years but has never attended. While she appreciates Vogue, Anna [Wintour] and her incredible imagination and stamina—it has never quite been her scene," Streep's representative said.

During the press run for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Streep spoke about further involving herself in the fashion world. On April 8, the actress attended her first fashion show in Milan, Italy for Milan Fashion Week. She opened up about the experience with Andy Cohen on the SiriusXM series, Front Row.

“I was so excited,” Streep said. “You know me in my real life. I have never been to a fashion show, clearly. It was really exciting, and I didn't know it was so theatrical.”

With her latest intrigue in the fashion space, perhaps it will not be long before Streep finally graces the Met Gala red carpet.

M.I.A. Kicked Off Kid Cudi Tour Following 'Offensive' Onstage Comments

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:35pm

Less than one week into his Rebel Ragers tour, Kid Cudi(real name Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi) has fired one of his supporting acts. The performer announced that "Paper Planes" singer M.I.A. (real name Mathangi Arulpragasam) was kicked off the tour on May 4 after videos of onstage political rants went viral days earlier.

"M.I.A is no longer on this tour," he shared on Instagram following fan backlash. "I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood. After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants."

Among those statements are the "Come Around" singer saying, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter," and adding, "I can’t do ‘Illegal,’ though some of you could be in the audience.”

Following audible boos from the audience, she added, “I’m illegal — half of my team aren’t here because they couldn’t get their visa.” M.I.A. is a citizen of the United Kingdom, but she did endorse President Donald Trumpin the 2024 election.

Yes that’s all fine but this isn’t…

— Billy (@Pryme72) May 4, 2026

"This, to me, is very disappointing," Cudi added in his response. "I won't have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase." The tour also features Big Boi, A-Trak, Me N U, and Dot Da Genius.

In a speedy response, M.I.A. accused the rapper and his fans of "gaslighting" her words.

"I STARTED THIS INTRO TO THE SONG WITH THE STATEMENT SAYING I'M ILLYGAL, AND I SAID MY TEAM HASN'T GOTTEN VISAS YET. THEN PLAYED A SONG THAT HAD LYRICS SAYING 'FU&% THE LAW', WHICH I STILL BELIEVE, IF THE LAW IS UNJUST F@%& IT," she wrote in the lengthy rant. "I WROTE 'BORDERS' AND 'ILLYGAL' AND 'PAPER PLANES' BEFORE YOU THOUGHT IMMIGRANT RIGHTS WERE COOL... I DON'T NEED THIS VIRTUE SIGNAL ERA TO ALL OF A SUDDEN ERASE AN ENTIRE LIFE I'VE LED... I HAVE NO APPOLGY FOR THE JUDGEMENTAL THE WICKED AND THE IGNORENT."

The Rebel Ragers Tour is Kid Cudi's first major tour in four years, since 2022. Unfortunately, the tour has been marred by controversy and low ticket sales at certain locations, between backlash from M.I.A's drama and a May 4 announcement that he would have to cancel his Birmingham, Alabama stop.

"I wanted to give y'all a special experience, but the ticket sales just weren't strong enough," he wrote on his Stories. However, he insisted this was a one-off issue, adding, "the rest of the tour will go on as scheduled... This has been my best selling tour to date!"

Lizzo Finally Sets the Record Straight with Gayle King About Her Weight Loss, Legal Battle, and Being 'Tone-Policed'

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:27pm

Let's be real: Lizzo has had a lot to say lately, and not all of it has been welcome news. Between her years-long legal battle and weight-loss journey that sparked endless speculation, the Grammy winner hasn't shied away from the noise. But in a candid sit-down with Gayle King that aired Monday, the singer got real about what people get wrong about her, her upcoming album, and why she's not backing down from her legal fight.

View this post on Instagram Why She’s So 'Misunderstood'

When asked what the public doesn't understand about her, Lizzo told King there's "a long list" of misconceptions, adding that she might be "one of the most misunderstood" people in the spotlight and that people "tone-police" her.

"They think I'm always complaining or I'm always angry or I'm always shouting," she explains. "And I'm like, 'No, I'm talking very calmly and everything that I'm talking about is meant to be helpful.'

The issue, she says, isn't her intention—it's how people receive it. She noted that after realizing people interpret her efforts negatively, she's decided to shift her approach: "I'm like, 'Y'all not gonna take it the way I want you to take it'—so let me just put it in the music."

And speaking of music: her highly anticipated new album is set to be released on June 5, and the singer hopes it empowers women with a single word: "Bitch” (also the name of the album).

Why She Won't Settle Her Legal Battle

We can’t talk about Lizzo without thinking about the lawsuit. In 2023, three of her former backup dancers filed a lawsuit against the singer, alleging a hostile work environment and sexual harassment during her world tour, with some sexual harassment claims still remaining, including allegations that Lizzo pressured them to engage with nude performers at a burlesque club in Amsterdam. One dancer also alleged they were weight-shamed, but the claim was later dismissed.

But here's what the signer wants you to know: She's not going anywhere. She is appealing that ruling and said she will not settle, telling King: "I'm fighting the case because I know that it's not true. Just like the fat shaming one is not true."

If the case goes to trial, Lizzo said she's ready to testify. “The truth will come out, and that's why I'm not afraid of it," she says, "The truth is less salacious than the headlines."

She said because it is an ongoing case, she can't talk about the details, but added she "cannot wait for it to be dismissed."

Her Weight Loss Journey—Setting the Record Straight

One thing Lizzo has been especially vocal about? Her weight loss. And she's had enough of the speculation about how she did it.

Responding to rumors that she used weight loss medications, Lizzo explained her weight loss journey was done "with a calorie deficit, cardio, and protein." She admitted she tried a GLP-1 drug years ago, and it wasn’t for her. "I'm scared of needles, and it just did not work out for me," the singer revealed.

So when she decided to embark on another health journey in 2023, she did it "the old- fashioned way." She says she’s "not a skinny person" and isn’t trying to be, noting "if I came out today as a brand new artist with this body, I would still get the same criticisms I got back in 2019."

Looking Forward

As for the future, the four-time Grammy winner said she's looking forward to touring again soon, saying, "I know the music is good and I know my heart is good. So if I know that, I have nothing to worry about."

Mel Robbins Dishes on the Most Life-Changing Thing Her Therapist Ever Said to Her, and Honestly, I Need to Remember It

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:21pm

We are a society that measures our success by productivity. There is a lot of guilt surrounding the concept of rest. In fact, according to Psychology Today, more than half of Americans won't use all of their vacation days each year. That also means statistically, 23 percent of U.S. workers took zero vacation days last year.

It's a big reason why top-rated author, motivational speaker, and podcaster Mel Robbins dedicates much of her time to the topic of success and what it means to be successful. While Robbins is famous for offering a plethora of advice, the recent tip she shared from her own therapist actually stopped me in my tracks today.

View this post on Instagram

"The best thing a therapist ever told me is, 'you're not lazy. You only have a certain amount of energy right now. And you're using it all to survive,'" relayed Robbins.

She then elaborated with her own analysis.

"When you're exhausted, does your brain say to you, 'oh, honey, you're doing such a good job,'" she jokingly asked. "No. Mine is saying, it's like, 'oh my God, you're behind. You got to get to that text. You didn't do enough. You should be doing more. You didn't get to that thing. this person's going to be disappointed.' This is from Jim Quick, who is a brain coach and a New York Times bestselling author. I once heard him say, 'if you only have 40% to give today, and you give all 40%, you just gave 100% of what you have to give.' And when you get through the day, here's what I want you to make space for. Not criticism, compassion. Make space for what you need most. You need rest, real rest. When you're given 100% to get through the day, the most responsible thing that you could do is to stop judging yourself and give your body the recovery it's begging for. So take a break. And how about you repeat this powerful reminder? You only have a certain amount of energy right now, and you're using all of it to survive."

Whew, talk about a whole word! I can't tell you how many times I beat myself up a day for not checking every single thing off of my checklist. And I'm not the only one it resonated with; many of her followers chimed in with their own takeaways.

"Literally the best advice ever it’s all energy and it gets stuck! That’s why we tap it out," said one follower.

"You aways seem to pop up on my feed at just the right time. Please accept my sincere thanks," added another.

"Make space for what you need most. Compassion instead of criticism," echoed another.

Faye Dunaway, 85, Makes First Public Appearance in Almost Two Years

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:20pm

Faye Dunaway is back in action after stepping away from the spotlight for almost two years.

The legendary actress, 85, who has scored everything from an Oscar to an Emmy, is known for films including Bonnie and Clyde, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Arrangement, and Mommie Dearest. But in recent years, the icon has flown under the radar, avoiding the spotlight to live a quieter life. Lucky for us, that all ended this week when the beauty hit the red carpet to attend the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood. Wearing a unique spin on a classic tux, the screen queen sported black and white with several large red flowers pinned on her jacket.

That Unfortunate Oscar Moment

Back in 2017, Dunaway reunited with her Bonnie & Clyde co-star, Warren Beatty, to announce the Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. Unfortunately, she read the winner wrong and announced La-La Land as the winner of the coveted trophy, instead of the real winner of the award, Moonlight. The moment went viral, naturally.

If you need a quick refresher on what happened, check it out below:

In a later appearance on TODAY, Dunaway spoke about the embarrassing incident, calling it "a moment I still haven't recovered from."

What's Next for Faye Dunaway?

Back in January, Deadline announced that Dunaway was heading back to work. The legendary star is set to join Nicola Peltz BeckhamJack HustonBetty Gabriel, and Mira Sorvino for Prima, the directorial debut of The Morelli Brothers.

According to the synopsis, the indie film follows Margo, played by Peltz Beckham, a dedicated prima ballerina raised by her disciplinarian and “guardian of the art” grandmother, played by Dunaway, who begins to unravel when the head of her ballet company marries a contemporary choreographer, disrupting the company’s tradition and igniting a quiet, atmospheric power struggle that threatens the very future of the institution.

‘Breathless’ Novel Wins 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 3:20pm

The 2026 Pulitzer Prize for fiction was announced on May 4, with a “breathless” novel taking the top spot for the renowned award. Angel Down by Daniel Kraus, which tells the story of a World War I soldier thrust into a bloody and dizzying side quest, was awarded the prestigious honor.

“A breathless novel of World War I, a stylistic tour de force that blends such genres as allegory, magical realism, and science fiction into a cohesive whole told in a single sentence,” is how the Pulitzer Prize board described the book, which The New York Times called a “harrowing” war novel.

Related: 2018 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novel Ranked One of the ‘Best Audiobooks to Curl Up With’

Beginning both mid-sentence and dropping the audience into the middle of a battle, readers follow along as the book’s protagonist experiences the Meuse-Argonne offensive and tries to deliver a fallen angel (yes, a literal one) to safety.

“Kraus’s prose comes most to life when he’s writing about death,” said The New York Times about the book, comparing it to other satirical war stories like Catch-22 and Dr. Strangelove. Rick Riordan, the author behind the beloved Percy Jackson series, had his own take on the novel, writing on Goodreads that “The book contains some of the most beautiful and horrific descriptions of war that I've ever read. Kraus makes it feel visceral and real.” Riordan noted that the format “is a metaphor for the war itself, which goes on and on like a never-ending sentence.”

Related: This ‘Flawless’ Novel Was Ranked the Most Brilliant Book ‘You Can Read in a Day’ on Goodreads

Angel Down was in formidable company for the 2026 fiction prize, with Audition by Katie Kitamura and Stag Dance by Torrey Peters taking the two other finalist spots. Audition is “a novel containing two competing, yet seemingly unrelated narratives, whose uncertainties, contradictions, and congruities address the roles we play in life as well as our sense of self,” the Pulitzer board said. It called Stag Dance “a story collection that explores versions of transgender consciousness across literary forms that seem familiar, but whose effects are strange, challenging, and ultimately fresh.”

In 2025, James by Percival Everett took the top spot for the fiction category. A retelling of Huckleberry Finn through the eyes of Jim, an enslaved man who helps the titular character in the controversial but deeply impactful Mark Twain novel, it takes liberties in the original book’s plot to give agency to Jim, shining a light on “the absurdity of racial supremacy and [providing] a new take on the search for family and freedom,” said the Pulitzer board

Two contestants answered Final Jeopardy correctly. Kaplan went into the final round with $18,200, wagered $13,500, and got it correct, walking with a final score of $31,700. Perkins went into the game with $12,600, wagering $6,000 and getting it right, ending with a second-place total of $18,600, while Davis, who had $15,600 going in, wagered everything. Answering incorrectly with “nine,” his final score was $0, a brutal end to a competitive game.

Kaplan will return on Monday to defend her title.

Is it just me, or is it really hard to pass up a cute, cheap tote bag? I use totes for everything—from running errands to packing groceries to sending my kids to school with them when some unfortunate leak has rendered their backpacks useless. Do I purchase too many totes? Maybe. But I use them all of the time, and they do need to be replaced every so often. Basically, if buying tote bags is my vice, I'm totally okay with it.

Needless to say, when I spy $5 tote bags at places like Dollar Tree, it's sort of like a no-brainer. And when they're adorable on top of being affordable, those beauties are in my cart faster than you can say "checkout."

Stylish Beach Tote Bag, $5 at Dollar Tree

Dollar Tree

Shop It!

Dollar Tree is selling its Stylish Beach Tote Bags (yep, that's actually the product name they were given) for $5 a pop, and they come in four colorways, as shown above. There's a pink flamingo variety, green palm tree leaves, juicy watermelons or a sassy option that reads, "Beach Please" in colorful font.

The bags are basically summer in carry-all form, ready to bring instant vacation energy wherever you go—even if it's just the community pool. Sized generously at 21 inches long with plenty of room for towels, sunscreen, snacks and all the random beach-day extras that somehow become necessities, this roomy tote is built for hauling your warm-weather essentials without feeling bulky.

Made from durable polyester and olefin (another durable synthetic fabric), it's lightweight, easy to carry and designed for sandy adventures, boardwalk strolls or spontaneous weekend getaways.

Dollar Tree shoppers are actually buying these in multiples to use for different things.

"I love this bag," wrote a customer in their review. "It can hold so much, and so far, it is made of thick durable material. It feels like higher quality than $5. The thick rope handle is long enough to put on my shoulder, and it is big enough for a large beach towel and more. I have the one with green leaves, and I also bought the matching makeup bag that fits inside the tote and was also $5. I will definitely be using this bag this summer, and if I come across the other version I will buy more. I might get one to use as a gym bag."

I'm considering buying a few to use as reusable gift bags for my friends with summer birthdays. Throw some tissue paper in there with a few fun beach reads, and you've got yourself a great present for someone.
