The life expectancy for US adults is at an all-time high, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data from 2024 (the latest that’s available) shows that life expectancy for women is 81.4 years and 76.5 years for men. What’s even more encouraging is that the number one cause of death—heart disease—is largely preventable. 

But as humans are living longer, the more likely we are to experience health problems in old age. One chronic health condition that, unfortunately, is on the rise is dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, one in three older adults dies with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and more than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, which is the most common form of dementia.

If someone you care about has Alzheimer’s or you want to do everything you can to lower your risk, you very likely have questions. Parade talked to Dr. Kaitlin Seibert, MD, a behavioral neurologist at Cleveland Clinic who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, about the most common questions people have about Alzheimer’s but are often too afraid to ask.

10 Questions About Alzheimer’s You’ve Been Too Afraid To Ask  1. Is there a blood test yet that can tell me if I’m developing Alzheimer’s before symptoms show?

“For the first time ever, there is a blood test that can detect Alzheimer’s pathology pretty reliably. It’s a very good test,” Dr. Seibert says. The test works by looking for the presence of Alzheimer’s-related proteins in the brain. 

Currently, Dr. Seibert says that the blood test is only recommended for individuals who are showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s, such as rapid and complete forgetfulness. She adds that the blood test can help streamline diagnosis and allow individuals who have it to gain access to medications that can help slow the disease’s progression. 

“The protein that the blood test checks for can be in the brain many years before symptoms actually develop, but right now it does not reliably predict if or when someone will get Alzheimer’s disease, which is why it’s not recommended for people who do not have memory problems,” Dr. Seibert explains.

2. If I test positive for amyloid but have no symptoms, what does that mean? 

As Dr. Seibert explained, the blood test for Alzheimer’s is currently not recommended for people who do not have any symptoms. However, if someone who doesn’t currently have symptoms does take the blood test and it suggests a presence of amyloid protein, she emphasizes that this doesn’t automatically mean the person will get Alzheimer’s dementia in the future.

“Amyloid proteins can be present in the brain for many years before symptoms actually develop,” Dr. Seibert says, adding that this is why the test is not yet considered a predictor for who will definitely get Alzheimer’s dementia in the future.

3. If my parent had Alzheimer’s, should I get genetic testing?

It’s incredible that science has advanced enough that there is genetic testing for Alzheimer’s, but just because it exists doesn’t mean everyone should do it. According to Dr. Seibert, genetic testing for Alzheimer’s disease isn’t typically recommended for healthy adults with no symptoms. 

That said, Dr. Seibert shares that genetic testing for Alzheimer’s disease is worth considering only for individuals with symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia, who are younger than 65 and who have a first-degree relative (parent or sibling) with young-onset dementia. “There are some genes that increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, like APOEɛ4. However, having the APOEɛ4 gene isn’t ultimately going to determine whether or not you’re destined to get Alzheimer’s disease,” she explains.

Why be tested for a disease that doesn’t have a cure? Dr. Seibert says that while it’s true that there is no cure for Alzheimer’s yet, there are ways to slow its progression, which is why having a diagnosis—especially an early one—is important.

4. Is there anything I can actually do to lower my risk, or is it mostly luck and genes?

Alzheimer’s disease is caused by a build-up of proteins in the brain, specifically two proteins called amyloid and tau. While what causes this build-up of proteins isn’t fully understood, it seems to be a mix of brain changes caused by genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle factors.

People with a parent or sibling with Alzheimer’s are between 10% and 30% more likely to get Alzheimer’s. While you can’t change your genetics, Dr. Seibert says there is a lot everyone can do to lower their risk. The biggest ways to do it: Getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet (Dr. Seibert recommends the Mediterranean diet or the MIND diet, which was crafted to lower the risk of dementia) and getting regular physical exercise.     

Need some motivation? One study of 960 older adults found that participants who followed the MIND diet demonstrated a whopping 53% reduction in Alzheimer’s risk, and by the end of the study, those who followed the diet had the brain function of someone equivalent to 7.5 years younger who didn’t follow the diet. As for exercise, a 2023 study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience found that people who exercise regularly had a significantly lower chance of developing Alzheimer’s compared to inactive adults. 

5. Does drinking, even moderately, actually increase my risk?

Another question many people have related to Alzheimer’s prevention is how dangerous drinking alcohol is. Can having a nightly glass of wine increase your risk? While alcohol is a toxin and has many health risks, Dr. Seibert says that the biggest risk when it comes to alcohol consumption and dementia is regularly drinking it in excess, which she explains is considered four or more drinks on any day or eight or more drinks a week for women and five or more drinks on any day or 15 or more drinks per week for men.

“Drinking alcohol in moderation isn’t necessarily going to lead to memory problems. It’s more the habit of drinking it in excess that’s the problem,” she adds.

6. Do brain games and puzzles actually do anything, or is that a myth?

Perhaps you’re wondering if regularly doing Sudoku, crosswords or other puzzles can help lower the risk of Alzheimer’s. When it comes to the type of brain puzzles that actually make a difference, Dr. Seibert says to focus on ones that challenge you without making you feel frustrated. 

“If you’ve been doing Sudoku puzzles for 40 years, that’s probably not going to challenge your brain the same way trying something new and different would,” she explains, adding that the best activities for supporting the brain are ones that force you to think a little differently, such as learning a new instrument, language or skill.

7. Could common medications be raising my risk?

It’s important to know that there are medications that can increase the risk of Alzheimer’s when taken regularly. Dr. Seibert says that one common one is Benadryl, which is found in many over-the-counter sleep medicines. “Benadryl contains compounds that act against a memory molecule called acetylcholine,” she shares. 

This is the main common medication Dr. Seibert says it’s important to be aware of when it comes to dementia risk. If you have any questions about medications you are taking and how they could be impacting your brain, talk to your healthcare provider. 

8. Can poor sleep or untreated sleep apnea actually cause Alzheimer’s, or just make it look worse?

Dr. Seibert says that regularly getting enough sleep is hugely important for Alzheimer’s prevention. She explains that anything disrupting your sleep—including health conditions like sleep apnea—increases the risk of Alzheimer’s, something that is backed up by scientific research. “Treating sleep apnea can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease,” she tells Parade. 

9. I forget names and where I put my keys constantly. How do I know if that’s normal aging or something worse?

When is forgetting actually a sign of Alzheimer’s versus just a result of getting older? Dr. Seibert says that occasional word-finding difficulty or forgetting a name and recalling it later can occur with normal aging. “What’s more concerning is rapidly forgetting information completely, especially when it’s a clear change from your usual and other people are noticing too,” she explains.

Sometimes, forgetting something happens because of lack of focus, you’re tired or in a bad mood. But if you aren’t able to function the way you used to and it’s impacting your daily life or others are concerned about your well-being, that’s when Dr. Seibert says that it’s a good idea to talk to your healthcare provider. 

10. When is it time to take away the car keys, and how do you actually win that fight?

If you have a loved one with Alzheimer’s, it’s natural to worry about them behind the wheel. But many older adults with Alzheimer’s are hesitant to give up their keys because it’s a big loss of independence. 

If possible, Dr. Seibert recommends having a conversation about safe driving in the presence of the patient’s doctor. Together, the three of you can discuss the best plan for keeping your loved one happy, healthy and safe. 

Dr. Seibert tells Parade that when driving becomes a threat to a person’s safety, that’s when it’s time for them to give up their keys. This can look like getting into fender benders, car accidents or getting lost. 

The reason why Dr. Seibert says it’s important to have the driving conversation in the presence of the doctor is that the doctor can assess what exactly is impacting the person’s driving. 

If the conclusion is that it isn’t safe for the person to drive anymore, it’s important to try to preserve their independence as much as possible. “I always share that what’s most important is getting where you want to go, not how you get there. I get my husband to drive me around as much as I can!” Dr. Seibert says.

On the afternoon of January 12, 1971, Norman Lear gathered the cast of All in the Family in a rehearsal hall at CBS in Los Angeles a few hours before the first episode was set to air. He had something to tell them. “One of two things is going to happen tonight,” he said. Either the show would be a massive hit. Or it would be taken off the air. Sally Struthers remembered that nobody in the room knew which way it would go. They’d been working toward this for years — and through two different networks. ABC had turned the show down twice.

There were two separate pilots, both starring Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton. The show had gone through three different names — Justice for All then Those Were the Days before finally landing on All in the Family. CBS aired it with a written disclaimer that said: “It seeks to throw a humorous spotlight on our frailties, prejudices, and concerns. By making them a source of laughter we hope to show just how absurd they are.” Then they aired it anyway.

The show was about a working-class bigot from Queens named Archie Bunker. Lear based him on his own father — a man whose casual cruelties and loud certainties had followed Lear his whole life. Carroll O’Connor played Archie for 13 years. Jean Stapleton played Edith Bunker — warm, patient, and sharper than she ever let on. Sally Struthers played daughter Gloria. Rob Reiner played Archie’s son-in-law, Meathead, for eight seasons, then left to direct Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men. The show went after racism, abortion, homosexuality, Vietnam, and the women’s liberation movement episode after episode. In the first episode, you could hear a toilet flush. That’d never happened on American television before either.

The country was ready. All in the Family became the first show in American television history to top the Nielsen ratings for five consecutive seasons — 1971 through 1976. More than 40 million people tuned in every week. Norman Lear fought CBS over virtually every episode and won most of the time. His most significant battle came in 1977 when he spent over a year working on a single episode — “Edith’s 50th Birthday” — in which Edith is attacked by an attempted rapist in her own home while her family plans her surprise party next door. It was the first American sitcom to portray an attempted rape. Lear consulted a rape crisis expert and held advance screenings at hospitals and police departments across the country. CBS was scared. Jean Stapleton’s performance is still held up as one of the greatest in the history of the form.

The show ran for nine seasons. Carroll O’Connor won four Emmy Awards. Jean Stapleton won three. All in the Family won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series four times. It spun off Maude, which tackled abortion; The Jeffersons, which became the longest-running Black-led sitcom in American history in its time; and Archie Bunker’s Place, which ran another four years after the original wrapped.

Archie’s Chair Is in the Smithsonian

Archie Bunker’s armchair — the one he sat in through all nine seasons — is now in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. It sits near the Fonzie leather jacket from Happy Days and the surgical gown from M*A*S*H. The show ABC turned down twice, the show CBS almost didn’t air, and the show Norman Lear told his cast might not make it through its first night is now a protected piece of American culture. Ana Sani has made a career out of using her voice. But the actress realized only five days into the game that there is such a thing as putting too much of yourself on tape. Ana came into the game with an honors degree in Political Theory, and put that work into practice when she found herself immediately getting into power with a select group of people. Rob Antonson and Carter Krull were quick to make a formal alliance with her, and she made an immediate bond with fellow Iranian Alexis Levine. Building a strong foothold early on, and with impressive puzzle skills to boot, Ana was already looking to put together quite the Day 26 reel.

Unfortunately, Ana would soon realize that what had been built over three days can instantly be destroyed in two. Fully leaning into her love of chaos and mischief, she began throwing out names like an IMDb page. She painted targets on Linnea Capobianco and Sharonda Cox to Alexis, then proceeded to throw Alexis under the bus to Carter (and subsequently get caught butter-handed by Alexis herself). Facing their first Tribal Council, it seemed Savu had settled on a communal target in Eric Macksoud, whose antics had already gotten on their cumulative nerves. But, over the course of the rest of the day, a wild series of improvisations threw a wrench in those plans, making the perfect popcorn entertainment

It’s only appropriate, given Ana’s penchant for pandemonium, that she get undone by a series of improbable events. Linnea misunderstood a comment Carter was making about the camp’s crabs, believing he and Ana were scheming behind the scenes. And so she and Sharonda decided to act on the information they were recently given, trying to flip the script on Ana at the last minute. Meanwhile, Rob was in his feels, with his intense anger around challenge performance pivoting into despondency over missing his family. And so he attempted his own last-minute maneuver. At Tribal Council, he went rogue, pulling Eric aside to outline his plan: Everyone votes for the mental health counselor, Rob plays his idol on him, and Rob’s self-vote eliminates him from the game. The only issue, as Rob found out when he actually put pen to parchment: You can’t vote for yourself. Even if he succeeded in his gambit, however, it would not win the night. Linnea and Sharonda had gotten enough numbers together to flip the vote, shocking Ana and her allies. The voice actress was officially done in in the booth.

Now out of the game, Ana talks with Parade about whether she saw any warning signs about her blindside, her reaction to Rob’s Tribal Council antics, and the “early promises” she made that she feels led to her boot.

We’ve got a lot to talk about, Ana. The good news is, if anything gets awkward, we can just talk about popcorn!
Yes, yes, we can always just talk about popcorn. Which I have right here! [Pulls out a bag of popcorn from off-screen.]

Well, let’s start with where things ended. To put it mildly, you were shocked as the votes started coming in against you. In retrospect, was there any conversation or moment that should have indicated you would be the one going instead of Eric?
Moments. We’ll talk before Tribal, then during Tribal. So before Tribal, I actually was tipped off by somebody that there were conversations happening that Sharonda and I had beef,. And I was like, “What is going on? And the only person that threw out Sharonda’s name that I talked to was Alexis. So I pulled Alexis aside, and I was like, “I know that you’re talking about me.” And we had a full conversation. And I literally said to her, “Alexis, I’m coming to you right now because I want to show you that I trust you, I’m honest with you, and I want to work with you. Will we work together?” And she looked me dead in the face, and I’ll never forget this. She pinky-swore with me. She said, “I swear to you, I want to work with you, and it’s gonna be me and you.” And I took that as, “Okay, she’s my girl.”

So I brought her into a bunch of other conversations. But yeah, I thought I could trust her when I put out my name as decoy, which was so dumb. But I was hungry; please forgive me! I saw the expression on everyone’s face, and I was very scared. And I went to my two guys, I went to Rob and I went to Carter. And I said to them, “You guys, I’m very terrified.” And love them both, but both of them went, “Yeah, Sharonda does not trust you.” And I was like, “Why are we not doing anything about this?! And they were like, “Don’t worry, it’s definitely going to be Eric.” Because obviously they were left out of the vote too.

And so I was already amped up going into Tribal. And I spoke to Carter and Rob, and I was like, “Okay, guys, like I need you to give me a look if it’s not going to go a certain way.” And I kept saying, “Are we good? Are we good? Are we good?” Once we get into Tribal, there was something in the air. And I was like, “Something is off right now.” Something in my gut was telling me to play the Shot in the Dark. There was a couple moments where you see me like looking down at my bag because I kept saying, “Should I play it? Should I play it?” And when Rob got up to do his antics with Eric, I moved over to Sharonda, and I was like, “Are we good? Is everything okay?” And she was like, “Everything’s fine.” And then I moved over to Carter, and I was like, “Are we good?” And he’s like, “We’re good.” So that kind of gave me like, “Okay, maybe we’ll be okay.” But we were not good, Mike. We were not good.

You talk about Rob’s antics. Did you have any idea how he was feeling going into that Tribal Council? That he was intending to vote for himself?
He took a really long time in there. I was like, “How long does it take to spell Eric!? It’s four letters! I don’t understand.” I was a little bit alarmed, but I trusted Rob. I really trusted Rob. He showed his anger after the Reward Challenge. He definitely missed his kids. He made that very clear. The one thing about Rob that I’ll always give him credit for is Rob is very honest and clear as water. He told me from the get-go he didn’t trust Eric; he didn’t sway from that. And he told me that it was going to be him, and I trusted him for it. So when he came back, as much as I was like, “What are you doing in there?” I didn’t really think that it was him writing his own name.

After he talked with Eric, did he tell you at all that he told him to play his Shot in the Dark,a nd that Rob would play his idol on him if need be?
No, and that was crazy to watch! He did bring up this idea of Shot in the Dark before Tribal. But it was a nothing burger. It was just something that he brought up, and I was like, “Okay, yeah, do whatever you want to do.” But then when he got up and actually had the conversation, I was like, “Oh, he’s just maybe he’s just performing.” But watching it back, I was like, “Dude, you could have royally screwed me! You kind of, sort of, maybe did. You went in there and you wrote your name, and I still would have been the one voted out!”

Let’s go back to the beginning of this episode. You said in confessional that you wanted to float out names to cause chaos. What made you decide to bring up Linnea and Sharonda specifically, and did you think that would fall back on you at all?
Listen, I need everyone to go back and watch that again. Because who floated out the name? It wasn’t me. It was Alexis. Alexis said Sharonda. And first of all, this was the fourth or fifth conversation that I had had with Alexis in the past couple of days of her coming to me and saying, “Do you have a name? Do you know?” And I was like, “Girl, I don’t know! It’s a game we’re playing here.” But I wanted to work with Alexis. I was like, “I think she’d be a good ally.” When we were in the marooning, I had had conversations with other people that said they liked Alexis. So I was like, “Maybe after we merge, we can do something.” So I really wanted to work with her.

But she just came up to me. She kept asking me those things. And then when she brought up Sharonda, I was like, “Okay, yes, Sharonda’s really smart, and I have a lot of respect for her. Which I do. Sharonda’s an incredible woman, but that’s dangerous. All I said was she was smart. Then the whole “Linnea is strategic” thing, Alexis was asking me, “What do you think of Linnea?” And I just said, “Well, Linnea seems to be strategic, but she’s not really talking to me.” That’s what I said. Anyway, Alexis took that, ran with it, and the girls didn’t think to question it at all. They were just like, “Yes, Ana must go.”

And then you proceed to go to talk to Carter and Cristian about Alexis. What fueled that interaction?
I did not throw her under the bus! Go back and watch that. Carter throws her under the bus. Carter is the one that says, “I don’t trust her. I want her gone. She doesn’t know how to play the game.” She walks in after Carter says that. Carter goes quiet. I’m looking at Carter. I’m looking at Cristian. They’re not talking. Alexis is looking at me. So I just say popcorn!

I know you said that Alexis made this whole pinky promise before Tribal, saying that you were locked in. But did you sense your relationship changed after that moment?
100%. I saw it in her face, and I was like, “Oh, I’m in trouble.” And what they didn’t show was Cristian actually was like, “I’m gonna go and try and fix this.” Which is why I also felt safe with Cristian and Kristin and everybody. I was like, “These guys are working with me. They want to protect me.” But they didn’t show all that.

In your final words, you talked about making a lot of promises early on, and things catching up to you. What were those promises?
I was in a lot of alliances. Actually, when I landed on the beach, I couldn’t believe how many people were coming and talking to me and wanting to align with me. That was very shocking to me, because I thought that I would be kind of on the outs and find my way in. I was approached by Carter. I was approached by Carter and Rob. Carter was my number one out there from the beginning. So then, when Rob approached me and Carter, I was like, “Okay, this is great, three of us.” But then I was also approached by Kristin and Sharonda. I was approached by Linnea. I was approached by Linnea and Alexis. So I felt like I had ins everywhere, which is why I felt comfortable, I guess. And I was scrambling at the end because I knew things were off when I put myself out as a decoy, which was just stupidity.

Let’s say your tribe takes the “lay-up,” to quote Ori, and gets rid of Eric. Who were you planning to gun for next?
That’s a great question. I’d say it was really up in the air. I was waiting for people to make a mistake. I thought that Eric was the easy vote out, unfortunately. And I do love Eric a lot; I didn’t want him to go. But his name was being thrown, so I was like, “Okay, I’m just gonna keep my mouth shut and go with it.” Carter mentioned, when we were sitting under the shelter, he brought up Alexis. And I was like, “Okay, maybe Alexis would be the next one to go.” But I wanted to work with Alexis. And if she had actually followed through with this vote and voted with me, I would have trusted her more, and I would have probably saved her if Carter came for her. So I truly don’t know who I would go for.

Talk to me more about your relationship with Carter. What made the two of you lock in so early on?
He was my buddy out there. Carter basically approached me and was like, “I really want to work with you. I feel like we’d be good.” And he at first was like, “We’d be a good secret alliance. And I was like, “Great!” Except it was not secret at all, and he was constantly around me, and I was constantly around him, and everyone was like, “Oh, they’re working together.” It was so clear. He’s just somebody that I thought was really honest. And I could trust him fully because he wanted to play a very honest game, and so did Rob, actually. Which is why I think they showed the three of us together because I gravitate towards people who I know for sure are being clear with me. And those two of them were clear with me until Rob did whatever he did at Tribal.

Going back to your final words, you said, “I love chaos and mischief. I’ll always be causing chaos and mischief in my everyday life.” How difficult was it for you to contain your chaotic self while playing a game like Survivor?
Mike, you don’t understand! I am such a prankster, a mischief maker. I don’t care what people think. I’ll just do things. It took every ounce of me to be as calm and collected as I was out there, and I was still messy and chaotic. I can’t help it. I love playing messy! That’s fun. Why are we not playing? And my tribe, we were a very chill, “we all love each other” tribe. And that’s great, but come on, let’s be a little spicy here! Where’s the fun in that? But I got booted because of it.

Johnny Depp is taking Christmas by storm. The legendary actor looks completely unrecognizable in the new trailer for Ebenezer, a gothic reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol.

“The name you know, the story you don’t,” the official synopsis for the movie reads, PEOPLE reported. It also stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen. McKellen plays the role of Jacob Marley in the film.

Depp Shocked Fans at Comic-Con Dressed as Scrooge

Back in July, Depp wasn’t scheduled to appear at any panels at San Diego Comic-Con, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, that didn’t stop the star from hitting the stage in full costume as Ebenezer Scrooge to tease a showing of the film’s first trailer. Wearing a top hat and walking with a cane, the appearance marked Depp’s first appearance at Comic-Con since 2018.

What’s Next for Johnny Depp?

After the release of Ebenezer, Depp will return to theaters in Day Drinker alongside Penelope Cruz and Madelyn Cline. The first trailer for the film, a supernatural revenge thriller, hit the web late last month and shows the actor with scraggly white hair and a beard. Day Drinker, which is directed by Marc Webb, is slated for release in theaters on March 26, 2027, Deadline reported.

“I’ve made a living out of misbehavior,” Depp warns. “I see no tangible reason to stop now.”

Depp Has Been Fostering His Artistic Side

While Depp hasn’t appeared in a big-budget film in a while, he’s been fostering his artistic side with his sculpture career. His first sculpture, a two-metre white bronze called “The Bunnyman,” was unveiled at the Turkish art fair Contemporary Istanbul last month. The piece was inspired by a drawing Depp’s son Jack made at just 5 years old, Deadline reported.

Back in 1968, most TV viewers knew Mike Nesmith as the quiet, wool-cap-wearing Monkee playing pop hits on prime-time television.

Many listeners still thought of The Monkees as the squeaky-clean pop quartet from prime-time television. But Nesmith was quietly pushing himself, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork into far grittier territory.

When the band hit the studio to record “Circle Sky” for their psychedelic feature film Head, Nesmith presented his bandmates with a driving rock track packed with raw energy. Recorded live in Salt Lake City to capture their true stage sound, the song proved Nesmith was way ahead of the curve when it came to breaking the Monkees’ manufactured mold.

Nesmith told Rolling Stone, “I also wrote this one when we were performing. I wanted to explore the power trio of us. In a strange way, we were actually pretty good.”

“Micky was a real garage-band drummer. I was a real scream-and-shout guitar player and Peter was a very precise player,” he continued.

Nesmith concluded, “He could play interesting lines and fills on the bass. The power trio that existed between us was seldom explored. The lyrics are about television and the corporate man.”

He elaborated further about the lyrics to “Circle Sky” in an interview with Cool Cherry Cream. Nesmith explained, “I really like ‘Circle Sky’ a lot. If you ever get the chance, listen closely to the lyrics and try to figure them out. I realize they’re difficult to understand, but I think you’ll be very surprised when you finally get them.”

In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Nesmith discussed making Head, the movie “Circle Sky” is featured in. Although it was panned by critics and fans, “I loved it,” Nesmith exclaimed.

“I had such a good time with Bob [Rafelson] and Jack [Nicholson], and it was the high point of my whole Monkees experience. And I think it lives on well beyond the television shows. The television shows have their place, but it lives on like the music lives on. It stands on its own three feet or 12 feet or whatever they are.”

“Circle Sky” wasn’t a huge Monkees hit. It didn’t rank in the Billboard Hot 100, but it remains a fan favorite. However, the Head soundtrack peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard 200, staying on the chart for 15 weeks.

Saved by the Bell might remain a well-deserved classic of ’90s television, but most of the stars have shared the fact that they made almost no money during their time on the series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Saved by the Bell star Tiffani Thiessen recently made headlines by revealing how little she actually made both during her time on the show and through residual checks she continues to receive in more recent years.

Discussing the matter in an interview on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio, Thiessen said she didn’t start making “real money” as an actress until her stint in Beverly Hills, 90210, with her previous role in Saved by the Bell doing little for her bank account back in the day.

“We made nothing and we just did our job,” Thiessen said.

Along with her meager salary back then, Thiessen also said her residuals had all but “dried out,” meaning she continues to make almost nothing through the show today.

“I think it has dried out,” Thiessen said of her residual checks. “It’s like, negative now. It costs more to print the check.”

Airing on NBC from 1989 to 1993, Saved by the Bell followed an ensemble cast of young actors navigating young adulthood in a Los Angeles high school. A popular hit during its initial airing, the show remains a favorite of nostalgic audiences over 30 years later.

Responding to his costar’s comments, Mario Lopez took to X to second the actress’s remarks, pointedly writing, “Real talk!” this past Wednesday.

Per EW, a recent episode of the documentary series Hollywood Demons even traced how little the actors of Saved by the Bell made during the height of the series.

“Mario Lopez said he started out making about $1500 an episode,” Denise Simon, a child star manager, said in the episode. “That’s a lot of money to a kid. But after a second season, in 1991, Saved by the Bell was pulling in roughly $15 million in advertising.”

TMZ has reported that Von Scales died at the age of 58. The cause of death is currently unknown. Von Scales married Trina Braxton in 2019. The wedding was featured on their reality series, The Braxtons.

A representative for the Braxton family stated, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”

In a 2019 interview with Essence, Braxton spoke about how she first met Von Scales. “Well, we met through mutual friends. There was a gentleman that he worked with who was also my neighbor. He was from St. Louis [the same place where Von lives.] So when Von was visiting and doing some work, my friend was like, ‘Hey, I know this guy, and he just got out of a relationship. You two would really hit it off.’ And we did! Our first meeting was at my friend Jamie Dukes’ house, who is an ex-football player. Then we all decided to do a group first date [with Dukes and his wife] and go to the movies and dinner together. Then two days later, we went out by ourselves.”

When asked how she knew it was love, she said, “He’s just such a great conversationalist, and I just enjoyed talking to him, and enjoyed his company when he came to visit. I was like, ‘Wait, Trina. You like this dude!’”

Braxton’s ex-husband, Gabe Solis, also died in 2018. He was 43. When speaking about grieving his loss, she said, “We just made better friends than spouses. But it was a really difficult time, especially being in another relationship. Sometimes when you are close with your ex, [your current partner] doesn’t understand how you can still have a friendship…especially when they’ve seen the tough times via television. Von had his moments of support. For him, it was difficult to watch his significant other grieve over their ex, but it was more than that because he was my friend and raised my children when their biological dad didn’t. At the end of the day, he couldn’t help but respect [Gabe] for that.”

Can you believe that the TV series Dexter turns 20 today? It premiered on Oct. 1, 2006, and it quickly made it clear that it was a crime drama to watch. In fact, it changed the way many watched crime dramas, giving everyone a murderer to root for.

Despite Dexter ending after eight seasons, the series returned with a revival, a prequel series, and then another revival that turned everything we believed in on its head. It holds up as a series today, with millions of people finding it thanks to streaming platforms, proving that well-written and well-acted shows age like fine wine. It even ranks at No. 136 on IMDb’s list of Best TV Shows of All Time.

The Showtime series delivered something that very few shows at the time could: a murderer fans would want to see succeed. When Dexter killed, his victims deserved it. They were killers and terrible people, and he viewed himself as doing a good thing for the people. The success of the series made it clear that viewers wanted this type of vigilante justice on their screens, leading shows like Arrow, Mr. Robot, and Hunters to follow suit.

The series was also not afraid to delve into some real crimes. To create John Lithgow’s terrifying character, the Trinity Killer, the creators did their research. One of the best inspirations was the BTK Killer, Dennis Rader, who hid behind the facade of a respected church leader. Arthur Mitchell was born, and he would become one of the most prolific and fan-favorite villains in the entire series. He was so popular that fans were excited to find out that he would return in the revival, despite being killed off in the original series.

What many may not realize is that to get into the mind of the titular character, Michael C. Hall actually stalked real people. He would choose random strangers in New York City and start tailing them. It was a chance to see how he could follow people without getting noticed, and he was able to pass the test each and every time.

He also continued to film despite battling a debilitating disease. During Dexter Season 5, Hall went through chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he kept quiet from the public throughout the treatment. If you look closely, you may now see that he was wearing a wig throughout the season to cover his hair loss, but the whole situation was managed expertly and professionally.

One of the things that the majority of fans can agree on is the terrible ending of the original series. Dexter’s series finale ended on a lonely and frustrating note with the titular character living a solitary life in the woods. While the revival helped to fix the issue, the problematic ending was due to Showtime’s refusal to let Hall’s character die. The showrunners actually wanted Dexter to be caught and die by lethal injection with his victims watching, but Showtime had the final say.

Even when the writers got the chance to give the character a fatal ending in Dexter: New Blood, Showtime changed it all with Dexter: Resurrection, the latest revival in the universe. There isn’t long to wait for the second season of the latest revival. Paramount+ has confirmed Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere on Oct. 30, 2026.

She may be the daughter of a basketball icon, but Natalia is making waves as a model on the runways. Back in 2023, the University of Southern California graduate made her runway debut in the Versace Spring/Summer 2024 fashion show at Milan Fashion Week.

Bryant told Vogue that the chance to hit the runway was “an incredible opportunity” she couldn’t turn down. But that didn’t mean walking the runway with Claudia Schiffer and Gigi Hadid didn’t leave her with plenty of butterflies in her stomach.

Back in August, Natalia’s mother, Vanessa Bryant, honored her late husband on what would have been his 48th birthday.

“Happy birthday, baby,” Vanessa wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of Kobe sitting on top of Vanessa in a lawn chair. “I love you so much.”

Wynonna Judd, 62, has been married to drummer Cactus Moser, 69, for 14 years. The couple just made an album together called The Hard Truth, which is coming out on October 2. The star recently spoke with PEOPLE about how she fell in love with her husband all over again while working together on the new album.

“I think we fell in love with each other all over again because we had so many subjects that were so real that it forced us to go out on date night and talk about it,” she said. “Communication is everything to me, and that album has brought us together in a way that’s so intimate here. Marriage is about more than just the physical, and so bonding through that music was so sacred.”

The couple originally met in 1989 when his band, Highway 101, opened for The Judds on tour. They got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2011 and married in the summer of 2012. Judd had been married two times previously, to Arch Kelley III and D.R. Roach. She has two children and one granddaughter.

During her interview, Judd also spoke about how much Moser supports her, saying, “I’m always struggling through the insecurity of, ‘Oh gosh, I could have done that better.’ And he would say, ‘Absolutely not. That’s the most intimate I’ve heard you sing it. We’re going to leave it alone.’ … We have a partnership that is just glorious.”

Moser also spoke about making The Hard Truth with Billboard. “Being a part of this record, and helping bring these songs to life as its producer, has been the most important work I’ve known,” he said. “We started with nothing but a feeling and emotion and ended up with an entire album that captures Wynonna’s story with a level of honesty she’s never experienced in her career. It’s the kind of record that makes a difference and reminds you why music exists in the first place.”

October has arrived, which means Huluween is officially underway.

Hulu is loading up its streaming library with horror movies, Halloween favorites and new originals throughout October 2026, giving subscribers plenty to watch before Halloween arrives on Saturday, Oct. 31.

This year’s Huluween lineup ranges from horror favorites like Hereditary, Midsommar and Barbarian to lighter seasonal fare including Hotel Transylvania and Ghostbusters. There are also several new releases joining the mix, including the AI thriller Soulm8te.

And that’s just Oct. 1.

Hulu’s Halloween programming continues throughout the month with new horror movies and specials, while the streamer’s existing Huluween collection includes everything from supernatural horror and psychological thrillers to horror comedies and family-friendly Halloween picks.

What’s Streaming for Huluween 2026?

Hulu kicks off October with a particularly large batch of movies that fit right into spooky season.

Among the biggest additions arriving Oct. 1 are Barbarian, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Substance, Edward Scissorhands and Soulm8te.

The Ghostbusters franchise is also getting a boost, with the original 1984 movie, Ghostbusters II and 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer the Call all joining Hulu on Oct. 1.

Families have options, too. Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 arrive the same day, along with all three Night at the Museum movies.

Later in October, Hulu will add more horror and thriller titles, including Companion and Wolf Man.

What Horror Movies Are Streaming on Hulu for Huluween 2026?

The new October arrivals are only part of Huluween.

Hulu has also assembled a dedicated Huluween collection featuring horror movies and TV shows already available on the streaming service.

Among the titles highlighted in the collection are Nosferatu, The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Talk to Me, Heretic, MaXXXine, Pearl, X, Jennifer’s Body, The Cabin in the Woods, Happy Death Day and Zombieland.

Viewers looking for something less intense can find Halloween comedies and family-friendly selections as well. Hulu’s seasonal collection includes titles such as Casper, Halloweentown and Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, along with Halloween-themed reality shows including Halloween Baking Championship, Halloween Cake-Off and Halloween Wars.

Is ‘American Horror Story’ Part of Huluween 2026?

Yes. American Horror Story is among the franchises Hulu is highlighting as part of its Huluween collection.

The long-running Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk horror anthology has been a streaming staple for horror fans, with seasons built around everything from haunted houses and witches to freak shows, hotels and the apocalypse. The first three episodes dropped on Sept. 24 and three more episodes drop on Oct. 1. On each subsequent Thursday in October, two more episodes will drop until the finale is released on Oct. 29.

Where Can You Watch Huluween 2026?

Huluween programming is available through Hulu.

The streamer’s dedicated Huluween collection divides its Halloween offerings into categories, making it easier to browse horror movies, thrillers, comedies, paranormal stories and less frightening seasonal options throughout October.

Meghan Markle is giving fans a sweet way to count down to Christmas and the inspiration comes from a place close to her heart.

The Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, is teaming up with Los Angeles-based chocolatier Compartés for a limited-edition advent calendar featuring an illustration of Meghan and Prince Harry’s Montecito, California, home – complete with details Meghan has previously shared including chickens and the backyard palm trees that are also seen in the As Ever logo – and Meghan’s signature calligraphy on each day.

The calendar, which features 24 handcrafted chocolates, is set to open for preorders on Thursday, October 1, marking the latest collaboration between the two brands. According to Town & Country, As Ever announced the news in its newsletter alongside an image of Meghan with the product, teasing, “Some things are worth the wait.”

The calendar’s focus on Montecito is particularly notable given the Sussexes’ recent return to the United Kingdom, though their love for their California home is well documented.

“We did everything we could to get this house,” Meghan told The Cut in 2022. “Because you walk in and go …Joy. And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”

She added, “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees. See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’  And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.’ ”

Ahead of Thursday’s launch, Meghan shared footage on her Instagram stories of herself riding in a golf cart alongside Compartés CEO Jonathan Grahm.

Captioned “Christmas planning in June,” the video showed the pair discussing the project, alongside sketches of the home that would eventually inspire the packaging, as well as the couple’s black Labrador, Pula, carrying a plush toy shaped like an As Ever strawberry jam jar.

Brooke Williamson’s son is looking all grown up, and fans are having a hard time believing just how much he’s changed.

The Top Chef alum shared a new photo alongside her 18-year-old son, Hudson Roberts, during a night out in New York City. In the snap, shared to Instagram on Wednesday, September 29, Williamson poses in a strapless floor-length gown featuring shades of green and pink, while Hudson looks equally dressed up beside her in a classic black tuxedo.

The mother-son duo appear to be standing outside a theater, with Hudson noticeably towering over his famous mom. Williamson didn’t offer much context about their fancy night out, simply captioning the post with a black heart emoji: “🖤”

Brooke Williamson recently sent Hudson off to college

The latest photo comes not long after another major milestone for Williamson and her only child, whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Roberts.

Earlier this fall, the celebrity chef (who is famously dating Bobby Flay) helped Hudson settle into his freshman year at New York University, sharing another mother-son photo while the two sported matching NYU gear.

Hudson was only 6 years old when Williamson competed on the show in 2014 and 9 when she returned in 2017, meaning fans have gotten occasional glimpses of him growing up throughout his mom’s television career.

Williamson previously told PEOPLE that Hudson earned straight A’s in high school without her pushing him academically. “I’m incredibly proud of him. Anne Hathaway might have achieved one of the greatest honors an actor could garner with her Academy Award, but she’d be more than willing to give up a second Oscar if it meant the New York Knicks could take home another championship.

Appearing on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hathaway played a game of “Best Thing Ever,” which saw Jimmy Fallon hold up two separate pictures representing some of Hathaway’s favorite activities and other treasured items, forcing Hathaway to pick her favorite between the two.

In the course of the game, Hathaway was asked to pick between the rock band Green Day and the reality series Great British Bake Off (she chose Great British Bake Off ) and books or iced cream (books).

As difficult as some of these decisions proved to be, the hardest for Hathaway to chose between was the decision to select either another Oscar win or another Knicks championship victory.

Though the decision wound up being a difficult one, Hathaway ultimately selected the Knicks championship, garnering a wide number of cheers from the New York-based audience.

“I’m actually, like, the way my nervous system is reacting to that choice is really intense,” Hathaway explained after the fact, stating with a laugh.

The game comes only a short while after Universal Pictures confirmed their intention to campaign for the actress in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in The Odyssey.

If successful, Hathaway will take home her second Oscar after 2013’s Les Miserables, which saw her portray the role of Parisian worker-turned-reluctant prostitute Fantine in a critically acclaimed performance.

Prior to that, Hathaway was also nominated for Best Actress in 2008’s Rachel Getting Married, a drama film centered around a young woman (Hathaway) temporarily released from rehab to attend her sister’s wedding.

Jim Carrey once said that he wasn’t interested in getting married again, but that has changed. Just nine months after he made his first red carpet appearance with his girlfriend, Min Ah, his rep shared that they married in a small, private ceremony.

The 64-year-old has kept his relationship with Min Ah relatively quiet. However, during a speech at the César Awards in Paris, he gave her a shoutout, saying, “I love you, Min Ah.” Now, reports say that their private ceremony took place in Los Angeles, and his rep confirmed that to Entertainment Weekly.

The earliest the couple was seen together was in 2022, but it wasn’t until Feb. 26, 2026, that he made it official. The two were joined by Carrey’s daughter Jane and grandson Jackson at the French award ceremony, where he received an honorary award.
