She later won a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway comedy The Marriage-Go-Round. Television viewers also knew her as the robot Rhoda Miller on My Living Doll. Still, her playful performance as Catwoman on Batman became her defining role.

Their son, John, was born with Down syndrome in 1981, according to Hello Magazine. After Newmar and Smith divorced in 1984, she raised John largely on her own. When meningitis caused him to lose his hearing at age 3, Newmar attended night school to learn sign language so they could communicate, she told The Guardian in June 2026.
Her acting schedule slowed as caring for John became the center of her life. Their close relationship was evident throughout her birthday gathering.
According to the outlet, Newmar lives with John in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood. She connects with longtime admirers through social media and occasional convention appearances but spends much of her time at home and in her garden.
The birthday photos were more than a nostalgic then-and-now moment. They showed an icon celebrating exactly where she wanted to be, at home with the people she loves most.
1973 Blues Rock Song, Written by Joe Walsh About Colorado, Became a Defining Radio Staple
Rock guitarist Joe Walsh was transitioning into a new stage of his life and career that led to the creation of one of his standout hits, “Rocky Mountain Way,” which captured the beauty of Colorado.
In the mid to late ’60s, Walsh was already known in the business with his band, James Gang. They released several popular tracks like “Funk” that peaked on the charts and “Walk Away.” Years later, in 1971, Walsh decided to leave the band and form Barnstorm, but many considered this new venture to be his transition into becoming more of a solo artist.
He and the band released their second studio album, The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get, which included “Rocky Mountain Way.” The track would become a radio hit and landed at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 13 on Cashbox. When it came to its creation and what inspired Walsh, his story has varied over the years, but one constant is that it was based on the beauty of Colorado.
According to Louder AAA, the guitarist was in Colorado thanks to James Gang producer Bill Szymcyk and a bunch of other people he knew also living there. The band was almost done creating the Smoker album, except for one instrumental track, which Walsh “couldn’t think of any words and everybody was patiently waiting for me to come up with something.”
Some of the greatest songs in history are often created from a random spark of inspiration. For Walsh, “Rocky Mountain Way” came to life while he was mowing his lawn at his house in Colorado.
“I looked up, and there were the Rocky Mountains. It was summer but you could still see snow on the back range. It just hit me how beautiful it all was, 5,000 feet up. And that was it – the words came: Spent the last year Rocky Mountain way / Couldn’t get much higher. And the second verse is about my old management – Telling us this, telling us that, time to change the batter. I got all of that at once. And I ran inside to write it down before I forgot it,” he explained.
He also commented that the beauty of Colorado is what made him commit long-term to living there. Walsh’s sudden inspiration led to a comical but chaotic moment that led him to compensate his neighbors for property damage. As he was in a hurry to jot down the new lyrics, he forgot to turn off the lawnmower that he was using.
“It kept moving and went into the neighbour’s yard and ate her rose bushes. Cleared a little path straight through. So those lyrics wound up costing me, I don’t know, maybe fifteen hundred bucks. But it was well worth it. The neighbour, though, she was pissed. I said to her, ‘You don’t understand! I got the words!’ But she just looked at me,” explained the guitarist.
The track would become not only a radio staple but a concert staple when Walsh went on tour with the Eagles. His signature track also became popular with the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball franchise during home games. Godsmack also has their own cover version that became a favorite for the Denver Broncos.
You Won’t Recognize This Former Child Star as Ted Kaczynski in Netflix’s ‘Unabomber’
Jacob Tremblay, the acclaimed child star who rose to fame in the 2015 film Room, is unrecognizable as Ted Kaczynski in the trailer for Netflix’s Unabomber.
Tremblay, 19, skyrocketed to fame alongside Brie Larson in Room, the adaptation of Emma Donoghue‘s novel about a young woman who has been held captive for seven years and whose five-year-old son was born in captivity. The film earned a bevy of praise and an Academy Award for Larson. While Tremblay has tackled several roles in recent years, it’s his upcoming role as Kaczynski that’s scoring significant talk around Hollywood. No longer the little boy America fell in love with in Room, Tremblay is officially all grown up. In the new trailer for the Netflix film, Unabomber, Tremblay’s striking transition is right on the TV screen.

What Is Unabomber About? The upcoming film tells the story of the man who orchestrated a decades-long mail bombing campaign that killed 3 people and injured 23 more, Netflix’s Tudum shared. “Jacob Tremblay stars as the young Ted Kaczynski, with Russell Crowe playing a controversial Harvard professor.”
“UNABOMBER is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge,” director Janus Metz told Tudum. “We crosscut between two timelines, roughly speaking: the making of the Unabomber and the capture of the Unabomber.”
Tremblay added that he was unfamiliar with the story of Kaczynski’s childhood until signing on to play the role.
“I didn’t even know he went to Harvard until I read the script; I think most people don’t,” Tremblay tells Netflix. “But he was a mathematical genius when he was 16. It’s quite fascinating, actually.”
When Does Unabomber Premiere? The film premieres on Netflix on Friday, September 25.

Country Music Icons Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Make Major Announcement Days After Dolly Parton's Death
It’s no secret that the country music world is reeling following the shocking death of icon Dolly Parton.
On Aug. 27, Garth Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, announced that they will celebrate Parton’s life by holding “Dolly Day” at Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk, an entertainment venue the couple opened in 2024.
They chose the date of September 25, or 9/25, in honor of Parton’s popular song, “9 to 5.” All of the proceeds collected by the venue on that day will be donated to Parton’s charity, the Imagination Library.
“Whatever the cash register says at the end of the day is going to Dolly’s passion,” Yearwood said. “This is 100% about Dolly and her love for children’s literacy.”
“Dolly may be the perfect example of if you spend your whole life loving, you WILL live forever,” Brooks added.
Through The Dollywood Foundation, Parton founded and launched her Imagination Library in Sevier County, Tennessee, in 1995. The “I Will Always Love You” singer was inspired by her father, Robert Lee Parton, who was unable to read. Her goal, to start, was to give free books to children in Sevier County to foster a love of reading. Over the years, the program grew and millions of free books have been sent worldwide.
Parton, 80, died on Aug. 25.
“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” her team said in a statement, according to People magazine.
“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” the statement concluded.
For fans in the Nashville area who would like to take part in “Dolly Day,” Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk is located at 411 Broadway.

Sarah Pidgeon Fans Call Her 'The New Girl.' She Just Joined a Star-Studded Netflix Show
Among the shows nominated at next month’s Primetime Emmys ceremony is Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.
The rising star who portrays Bessette has remained red hot in Hollywood, having just joined a buzzy new Netflix series that already features a number of big names.
Deadline announced on Wednesday, August 27 that Sarah Pidgeon is now starring in Enigma Variations, an upcoming series based on the bestselling 2018 novel of the same name by André Aciman (who also wrote Call Me By Your Name).
Deadline also took to Instagram to share the casting update this week, with followers weighing in with their reactions. See below.
View this post on InstagramFans have since thrown their support behind Pidgeon in the post’s comments section. “Go Sarah GOOO,” wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, “The new girl.”
Enigma Variations also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough.
The 2018 source material “charts the life of a man named Paul, whose loves remain as consuming and as covetous throughout his adulthood as they were in his adolescence,” according to a synopsis by Macmillan Publishers. “Whether the setting is southern Italy, where as a boy he has a crush on his parents’ cabinetmaker, or a snowbound campus in New England, where his enduring passion for a girl he’ll meet again and again over the years is punctuated by anonymous encounters with men; whether he’s on a tennis court in Central Park, or on a New York sidewalk in early spring, his attachments are ungraspable, transient, and forever underwritten by raw desire—not for just one person’s body but, inevitably, for someone else’s as well.”
The synopsis continues, “In Enigma Variations, Aciman maps the most inscrutable corners of passion, proving to be an unsparing reader of the human psyche and a master stylist. With language at once lyrical, bare-knuckled, and unabashedly candid, he casts a sensuous, shimmering light over each facet of desire to probe how we ache, want, and waver, and ultimately how we sometimes falter and let go of those who may want to offer only what we crave from them.”
Country Star Chris Stapleton Honors Dolly Parton With Soulful Reimagining of Her No. 1 Hit
From one country legend to another—Chris Stapleton is honoring the late Dolly Parton.
The “Tennessee Whiskey” crooner took to the stage at Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Nassau County, New York, to perform one of Parton’s career-defining hits.
Video captured by the amphitheater shows Stapleton’s “beautiful cover” of “I Will Always Love You.”
As he began singing “If I should stay,” donning his signature cowboy hat, the crowd instantly erupted in cheers and applause.
As he hit the notes of the chorus, the audience joined in, turning the moment into a singalong.
Fans praised the soulful texture and emotional grit of his powerful vocals in the comments, writing, “He could sing the phone book and I’ll always love you.”
“This man can sing anything!!!?” another noted, while someone else expressed, “It’s not just the lyrics.. or singing them .. or the music accompanying it all but the heart and soul poured into bringing this song to life. Chris has got that ability.”
“Imagine if Chris and Dolly could have duet this together. Wow,” one fan chimed in, as others noted, “I’m not crying.”
Stapleton previously honored the GRAMMY winner’s life and career during the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute concert.
Parton’s death came as a shock to fans and her family, despite her recent health battles.
The Queen of Country died Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer, at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones who rushed to be by her side, her representatives confirmed.
Parton wrote “I Will Always Love You” in 1973 as a goodbye to her longtime duet partner Porter Wagoner, on the same day she wrote “Jolene.”

Your Birth Date Reveals Your Beach Spirit Animal
Whether you’re exploring the tidal pools, poking around the jetties, or checking out the sandbars, there’s a beach animal that mirrors your soul, based on your birth date. According to numerologists, groups of birth dates share a similar energy that’s mirrored in a specific beach animal. Groups of birth dates are determined by reducing all birth dates to a single-digit number between 1 to 9. As a result, birth dates that share a single-digit number will resonate with the same beach animal’s spiritual energy and personality attributes.
Depending on your birth date, you might resonate with the boisterous seagull, the tenacious hermit crab, or another beloved sea creature scurrying around the beach. Read on to find your beach animal for birth dates 1 to 31.
Your Beach Animal, Based on Your Birth DateCheck if your date of birth is listed. Disregard birth months.
Born on the 1st, 10th, 19th, and 28th: SeagullMost beach animals aren’t as fierce as those born on the 1st, 10th, 19th, and 28th. Numerology’s 1 bestows boldness and bravery, so people born on these dates are known for their courage. Only the seagull comes close to capturing these birth dates’ feral nature. Seagulls don’t hesitate to go after what they want. There isn’t a single beachgoer, cooler, or towel that stands in a seagull’s way. People born on these dates cannot help but admire the seagull’s audacity, because they see their fearlessness and nerve in this winged beach animal.
Born on the 2nd, 11th, 20th, and 29th: MinnowThe beach is a sacred place for those born on the 2nd, 11th, 20th, and 29th. Since these birth dates are ruled by the moon and 2, they feel aligned with the push and pull of the tides. Swimming in the salt water is their favorite pastime, much like the minnow. But like these birth dates, jellyfish shouldn’t be messed with. A jellyfish’s stinging tentacles mirror these birth dates’ hidden edginess that only comes out if they absolutely need to defend themselves.

Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton's Emotional 1994 Grammy Moment 'Hits Different Today'
Following the death of Dolly Parton this week, a video of Whitney Houston accepting her Grammy from the late country star over, 30 years ago, is a little extra special now.
In a video resurfaced to YouTube, shared by the official Grammys account, Parton, along with producer David Foster, are presenting the award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a female. Upon announcing that Houston won for “I Will Always Love You” — which was originally written by Parton and then produced by Foster — the late country star is seen beaming with excitement.
In accepting her award, Houston immediately thanked Parton.
“Dolly, of course, coming from you this is truly an honor. You wrote a beautiful song,” Houston said. “Thank you so much, for writing such beautiful songs, really.”
Houston died in 2012 at the age of 48.
The video, which was originally posted to YouTube in 2023, has now garnered comments regarding the fact that the two singers have died:
- “A world without these 2 magnificent, brilliant people who brought so much joy is truly a big loss to the world,” one wrote. “This video hits different today; both these goddesses are now united.”
- “And now these 2 are together again,” added another, to which another user responded, “Yess, now they get to sing it together up in the heavens above.”
- “Dolly and Whitney look so beautiful here. RIP beautiful angels,” another added.

Parton wrote the song in 1973 in dedication to Porter Wagoner, with whom she starred on his show. The song was her goodbye message to him when she decided to leave the program and pursue a solo career.
Houston then sang the song as part of The Bodyguard soundtrack in 1992.
Parton died on Tuesday, according to a statement shared by her nephew on her behalf.
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly,” he said, in part. “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”

Hours After Dolly Parton's Death, Tropical Storm Dolly Began Forming in the Atlantic
In the hours after Dolly Parton died at age 80 on Tuesday, Aug. 25, a weather system began taking shape far out in the Atlantic Ocean. By Thursday morning, it had strengthened enough to receive a strangely poignant name: Tropical Storm Dolly.
The timing is striking, but the shared name has nothing to do with the country music legend’s death.
The National Hurricane Center described the timing as “purely coincidental,” according to The Weather Channel, noting that storm names are determined long before hurricanes and tropical storms actually develop.
Tropical Storm Dolly has formed in the Atlantic basin. Dolly is expected to fizzle into a tropical wave before approaching the Leeward Islands this weekend. This system could bring heavy rain to parts of the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico through early next week. pic.twitter.com/2MSlxzH348
— The Weather Channel (@weatherchannel) August 27, 2026Tropical Storm Dolly officially formed Thursday morning in the eastern Atlantic, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm was located roughly 1,500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving west-northwest.
Its development came just after the world began mourning Parton, who died Tuesday in Nashville.
The coincidence hasn’t gone unnoticed. Responding to The Weather Channel’s report about the storm’s name, one reader wrote, “I would rename this one, personally. Not good timing for this name to be used.”
Despite the remarkable timing, meteorologists didn’t choose “Dolly” as a tribute to the “Jolene” singer.
Atlantic tropical cyclone names are maintained by the World Meteorological Organization, with six lists generally rotating every six years. The 2026 list was previously used in 2020, 2014, 2008, 2002 and 1996.
And “Dolly” has a history stretching back much further than that.
According to The Weather Channel, the name first appeared on an Atlantic storm list in 1953, the first year the United States began using female names for storms. At the time, Parton was only 7 years old.
That means Dolly was being used as a storm name 14 years before Parton released her 1967 debut album, Hello, I’m Dolly.
Tropical Storm Dolly forms in eastern Atlantic, but won’t last long due to El Niño wind shear. Here’s what to know: https://t.co/jFwQoWrnLZ pic.twitter.com/JWECQSNW93
— The Weather Channel (@weatherchannel) August 27, 2026Storm names generally remain in rotation unless a cyclone becomes so deadly or destructive that the World Meteorological Organization decides using the name again would be inappropriate. Famous examples of retired names include Andrew and Katrina.
The eerie coincidence also arrives during what has been an unusually quiet Atlantic hurricane season.
Dolly is only the fourth named storm of 2026, and the season had yet to produce a hurricane through Wednesday, Aug. 26. The Weather Channel reported that it was the quietest start to an Atlantic hurricane season in nearly 40 years.
Forecasters don’t expect Dolly to remain a tropical storm for very long.
Increasing wind shear and dry air, both associated with the strengthening El Niño, are expected to weaken the system as it approaches the Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Dolly will eventually deteriorate into a tropical wave.
Even without the name “Dolly,” however, the system could bring locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds to parts of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hispaniola from late Saturday into Monday.
There is also some uncertainty about what happens afterward. Some computer models suggest the remnants could encounter more favorable conditions and potentially redevelop next week near the Bahamas or Bermuda Triangle, although forecasters say it is far too early to know whether that will happen.
The unlikely timing carries another layer of poignancy because weather, storms and recovery were recurring threads throughout Parton’s life and work.
Parton frequently used images of storms, rain and clearing skies in her music, perhaps most memorably in her 1977 song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.”
She also repeatedly stepped forward when real-life disasters struck. Over the years, Parton provided assistance following events including the devastating 2016 Great Smoky Mountains wildfires, the 2021 Middle Tennessee floods and Hurricane Helene in 2024.
Now, just days after her death, her first name is unexpectedly appearing on weather maps across the Atlantic.
It’s not a memorial. It’s not a tribute. It’s a name that was decided long before anyone knew what this week would bring.
But for fans mourning Parton, the timing makes Tropical Storm Dolly one particularly unusual coincidence, arriving just as the world is saying goodbye to a woman who famously reminded people that if they wanted the rainbow, they had to put up with the rain.

'SNL's Jane Curtin Remembers Tense Relationship with Iconic Co-Star John Belushi: 'I Just Blew Up At Him'
While the first five years of Saturday Night Live are often regarded as some of the show’s best seasons, many of the series’ stars have spoken about the issues backstage between some of the show’s most prominent cast members.
Jane Curtin, for example, has regularly discussed her issues working with John Belushi, something that was entirely exasperated by Belushi’s worsening substance use behind the scenes at SNL.
In a 2023 interview with People magazine, Curtin reflected on her working relationship with many of the original Saturday Night Live players, revealing that the only person she often butted heads with was Belushi.
“I got along with everyone. But I did have problems with John,” the famed comedian said. “But that was because John wasn’t John. He was an addict.”
In a separate interview, Curtin went into further detail about the atmosphere backstage at SNL, noting that Belushi’s struggles with substance use often led to confrontations between herself, Belushi and series producer Lorne Michaels.
“I knew who was dealing the drugs,” Curtin told The New Yorker in 2019 (via Newsday). “I’d see this guy in the studio every so often, and I’d think, God, I just want to shoot him. I caught John going through my purse one day. He was in my dressing room, and I just blew up at him. It bothered me a lot. It affected so many lives and careers.”
“I would say, ‘Why aren’t you doing something about John? I found him going through my purse. He set your loft on fire. His behavior is reprehensible. He’s not coming to rehearsals or if he does come, he comes three hours late. Do something!'” Curtin remembered screaming at Michaels. “And he didn’t. He would just sort of throw his hands in the air.”
For her part, Curtin told People that she was content pursuing a life outside of the studio, not letting her cast members’ behavior affect her life too strongly.
“I had a life — a dog, a husband, an apartment with a little garden. It was a life I really enjoyed,” she said. “John, obviously, he could party with the best of them, but the next day these guys were just so miserable. Plus, the 90 minutes on the show were so exciting and adrenaline-pumping, I felt all the other stuff was self-indulgent and seemed hard.”
Christie Brinkley, 72, and Her 28-Year-Old Daughter Looked More Like Sisters in Matching Red-Carpet Denim
Christie Brinkley and her daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook, could be mistaken for twins on the red carpet.
Brinkley, 72, who rose to fame as a model and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl in the ’80s, has been on the cover of hundreds of magazines over the years. She parlayed that beautiful face into an acting career and is also a proud mother. Her lookalike daughter, Cook, 28, joined her on the red carpet at John Mayer‘s live performance for SiriusXM at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York. One look at the dynamic denim duo is almost shocking, because they could pass for sisters.

Brinkley Says Four Divorces Changed Her View of SoulmatesAfter four divorces, the blonde beauty said she’s giving a little more thought to the idea of what it means to have a “soulmate.”
“I’m a believer in soulmates,” Brinkley told Social Life Magazine this summer. “But I don’t know if they last forever in the way that I thought they would.”
“I also believe that soulmates can transform and still be soulmates even though it’s not the romantic soulmate anymore,” she added.
View this post on InstagramWhile her marriages didn’t turn out the way she hoped, Brinkley has found a lot of joy as she’s aged.
“I think that with age you get … freer,” she told the outlet. “You do what you wanna do when you wanna do it. I think that there’s a freedom that comes with age and that’s quite wonderful. … You know what you like. You know what you don’t like. And you don’t feel like you have to put up with the stuff that you don’t like anymore.”
Revealing How She Was DiscoveredLast year on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Brinkley shared that her modeling career kicked off when she was approached by a man during her days as a struggling artist living in Paris.
“My Paris apartment didn’t have a telephone. It didn’t have a bathtub or a shower,” Brinkley explained to Clarkson. “I would go to the public baths a couple of blocks away. If I needed to make a phone call, I would go to the telephoning office and I would use the phone there.”
A trip to that telephoning artist turned out to be just the thing that started Brinkley’s modeling career. A photographer in the neighborhood had seen Brinkley at the telephoning office before, and when he got a job that needed a fresh-faced California girl like Brinkley, he knew she’d be perfect for the gig.
“He thought, ‘that girl from the telephoning office!’” Brinkley recalled.
One day, Brinkley was carrying her puppy around and wasn’t paying attention to where she was going. It was then that she ran right into the photographer.
“I smacked right into him in the phone office,” Brinkley shared, explaining that moment was the catalyst for her legendary career.
While it may seem like a stroke of luck, Brinkley went on to say that the run-in with the photographer is just another example of how fate has played a role in her life.
“Whether it was something really bad, really heartbreaking, or really devastating, it can still propel you places that you never suspected, you know?” Brinkley shared.

Dolly Parton's Sister Stella Breaks Silence 2 Days After Her Death
Even in her final days, Dolly Parton was still thinking about how she could help someone else. The country legend’s younger sister, Stella Parton, shared that deeply personal detail in a tribute posted on Instagram on Thursday, August 27, two days after Dolly died at 80.
What Did Dolly Parton Hope to Do for Other Patients?Stella said her sister remained focused on other people during her final days, even as she faced serious health challenges. “My sister was one of the most generous, thoughtful and kind people I’ve ever known,” Stella wrote.
“What the world saw is exactly who she was, so much so, she told me recently that if there was no hope for her, she would still allow her medical team to try experimental drugs in the hope of helping others in the future.” People reported that Dolly died following a brief battle with cancer. Her team did not disclose the type of cancer.
View this post on InstagramStella asked those mourning Dolly to carry her generous spirit forward through their own actions. “My sister was always thinking of others and if you want to honor her legacy, show more kindness, lift others up and give more of your time and resources, as she continued to do to the very end,” she wrote.
What Tuesday Tradition Did Dolly and Stella Parton Share? For years, the sisters began Tuesdays with an early-morning phone call and coffee. They affectionately called the ritual their “kaffeklatsch,” a German term for an informal conversation over coffee. “Every Tuesday about this time before the sun came up and the world was still asleep, she and I for many years had our coffee together over the phone,” Stella recalled.

During those calls, the sisters traded gossip, made plans and found reasons to laugh. “My Tuesday morning coffee time will never be the same but her love, respect and goodness will remain,” Stella wrote.
Stella said the outpouring of love has helped her family grieve. She pictured Dolly arriving in heaven in the same sparkles and shine fans knew and loved. Stella ended with a simple request: “She left the world a better place by being in it so let’s follow her example.”
3 Birth Months Who Need Permission to Do Nothing as Summer Winds Down
According to birth date numerology and astrology, three birth dates should embrace doing less and being more present before summer 2026 concludes.
As the season winds down, there can be a strange pressure to make the most of every remaining sunny day. One more outing, one more project, or one more plan before fall arrives. But for some, the most restorative thing they can do right now is absolutely nothing.
According to astrology, certain months are more likely to produce people who stay busy, mentally stimulated, or focused on what comes next. If you were born in one of these three months, consider this your permission slip to stop trying to make the end of summer productive. When autumn arrives, you’re more likely to naturally step into a new chapter of movement and action. In the meantime, allow yourself to savor quiet mornings, fun memories, and an easygoing temperament.
Which Birth Months Should Slow Down As Summer Winds Down? January: You Don’t Have to Earn Your DowntimeThose born in January are either a disciplined Capricorn or a future-focused Aquarius, two signs that can both struggle to simply let time pass without attaching some kind of purpose to it. January-born people may find themselves organizing, planning, researching, or working even when they technically have the day off.
As summer winds down, resist the urge to turn every free afternoon into an opportunity to get ahead. You do not need to clean the entire house, plan ambitious goals, or squeeze in one last elaborate accomplishment to be worthy of rest. A period of slow, intentional living can be valuable not in spite of, but because nothing gets accomplished.
May: Stop Filling Every Quiet MomentWhether you’re a steady Taurus or a curious, fast-moving Gemini energy, this birth month craves social and intellectual stimulation. Often, you feel deeply responsible for keeping life running smoothly. You tend to fill empty space with plans, conversations, entertainment, and promises to those you love. True stillness can be surprisingly difficult for those born in May.
Before summer says farewell, give yourself permission to leave part of your planner completely blank. Ignore the calendar for a bit. Why constantly make plans when you know you need a mental reset? Spend an afternoon lounging, enjoying low-stakes time with your friends, or doing whatever feels easiest. As you relax, your nervous system allows you the clarity and peace of mind that running around could never permit.
September: Everything Does Not Need to Be Handled Right NowIf you know someone born in September, you likely know that they can be ruled by a detail-oriented mindset. Either a cerebral Virgo or a harmony-seeking Libra, this birth month is often highly aware of what still needs attention. You crave to complete unfinished tasks so you can fully relax, all while thinking about other people’s needs, plans, and expectations.
However, not every life goal can be completed in a day. Waiting to rest until you’re fully successful in meeting every goal or making everyone happy means you’ll never stop. September-born people are asked to shift into “reset” mode as the season transitions from summer to autumn. The schedules, goals, and routines can wait. You do not have to be perfectly prepared to feel satisfied. Sometimes the best way to handle things is to stop managing everything for a moment and simply enjoy where you are.

View this post on Instagram Couric’s ‘Freaky’ Medical IncidentCouric’s focus on her health follows her admission that she recently dealt with temporary memory loss, leading to a diagnosis of transient global amnesia.
“This was a freaky occurrence; it could have been much more serious,” Couric explained in a Substack post recapping the incident last month. “Ultimately, I’m relieved—even though several hours of a Saturday in June will always be missing for me.”
After giving speeches in Aspen, Couric was like “out of it.” She immediately headed to the hospital with her husband.
“When I was asked the month, the year, and who was president, I got them wrong,” Couric shared. “I wasn’t sure of the month. I thought it was 2024. And I believed Joe Biden was president.”
An MRI made it clear that Couric had not suffered a stroke. Later, a neurologist taught her about TGA.
“TGA is a sudden, temporary loss of the ability to form new memories,” Perlmutter told Couric for Katie Couric Media. “A person is awake, alert, knows who they are, recognizes family members, and can carry on a conversation, but they can’t remember what just happened a few minutes ago.”

'Charmed' Star Holly Marie Combs Reveals She's Retired From Acting: 'I Miss It Occasionally'
Holly Marie Combs is setting the record straight about her career, as the Charmed actor explains what led her to step away from Hollywood and take on new roles.
The 1998 WB series was Combs’s breakthrough role after having originally started her career in the CBS series Picket Fences in 1992. While having become a pop culture sensation in the role of Piper Halliwell for Charmed, Combs revealed she had “retired” from acting.
Her decision to put a halt on her acting career was discussed on her rewatch podcast, The House of Halliwell , on Tuesday, where she admits her children were a big factor. Combs had three children with her ex-husband and former Charmed key-grip David Donoho before they divorced in 2011. She later married restaurateur Mike Ryan and is a stepmother to his daughter.
“It was a lot of family,” she said. “During COVID, we had three teenagers. Well, it was three teenagers and a preteen in the house, and it was just mayhem and chaos.”
Taking care of her family wasn’t the only reason the Charmed star decided that her acting career wasn’t where it used to be. She admits that the roles she was being offered weren’t impressing her and were being more tailored to her age.
“The stuff that I was getting and coming across my desk was just nothing that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really great. I need to do this,’” she recalled. “And being in, you know, that 40 to 50 range, the job pool gets even smaller and smaller. And I feel like the roles get a little less interesting.”
Combs adds that, despite the roles offered being better suited to an older actor, the industry is “not as bad with the ageism as it used to be.” Many of her friends in the industry tried to pull her out of retirement, but she says she’s enjoying her life in Washington state and is “running 15 businesses.”
Is Combs closing the door entirely on never acting? It doesn’t appear so, as she teased that maybe once her middle child graduates, she will reconsider returning. The Pretty Little Liars star adds that she still loves her craft and even misses it from time to time.
“I miss it occasionally because, like you said, there’s those moments when you’re involved and you’re acting and you’re working that are just, I think it’s like being present,” she explained.
“That’s what escapism is. And we get to escape into this different character with a different set of situations than our own life. And there is something about being in that moment that is quite peaceful, even if you’re doing something highly dramatic.”
Combs’ last on-screen TV role was in 2019, when she appeared as a guest character for one episode of Grey’s Anatomy. She also produced the Sharkwater Extinction documentary a year earlier, and when it comes to the big screen, her last credited on-screen role was in Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, and her last narrator cameo was in Corky in 2022.
