This Practical IKEA Find Will Save You So Much Space in Your Bathroom

When you have a small bathroom, every inch of storage matters. Countertops can quickly become cluttered with skincare, makeup, hair products, toothpaste and the small essentials you reach for every morning. It can be hard to keep the room looking neat when there simply is not much space to work with.
That is why smart storage pieces are worth considering before buying more bins or countertop organizers. Furniture that serves more than one purpose can make a compact bathroom feel more functional without taking up valuable floor space. A wall-mounted cabinet, especially one with a mirror, helps create a cleaner look while keeping everyday items close by.
NYSJĂN Mirror Cabinet, $69.99 at IKEAIKEA
Shop It!The NYSJĂN Mirror Cabinet from IKEA is a simple and affordable option for getting that extra storage. Priced at $69.99, the white cabinet is designed to mount on the wall and measures 19 â inches wide, 5 â inches deep, and 23 â inches high. It is slim enough for small bathrooms while still providing space for the essentials.
The standout feature is the sliding mirrored door. Instead of swinging outward and getting in the way, the mirror slides to the side, letting you look in the mirror and reach for your products at the same time. That makes it especially useful for tight layouts where a traditional cabinet door could feel inconvenient.
Inside, the cabinet includes one adjustable tempered-glass shelf, so you can customize the spacing for taller bottles, makeup, contact-lens supplies or hair products. The mirror also has safety film on the back to reduce the risk of injury if the glass breaks.
The cabinet is made with humidity-resistant materials, including protective edge bands designed to help prevent moisture from getting into the piece. That is an important detail for a bathroom, where steam and humidity can be tough on furniture over time.
Its clean white finish works with nearly any decor style, from minimalist and modern to traditional and cozy. Use it above a sink for a classic medicine-cabinet setup, install it in a laundry area for smaller supplies, or add it to a guest bathroom to create useful hidden storage.
At $69.99, the NYSJĂN Mirror Cabinet is an easy way to make a small space feel more organized and polished. It proves you do not need a major renovation to improve your bathroom; you may just need a better place to put the things already taking over your counter.

Exclusive: Expert Explains Lindsay Clancyâs 82.1-Degree Body Temperature
Lindsay Clancy's reported body temperature was just 82.1 degrees Fahrenheit when she was found, a figure that has prompted questions about how such a dangerously low temperature could have been possible.
Parade exclusively interviewed James J. Chao, M.D., FACS, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of VedaNu Wellness. Dr. Chao is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than 25 years of experience and previously served as a former clinical professor of surgery at UC San Diego. Chao, who has extensive experience teaching surgical anatomy and treating reconstructive trauma, explained what could happen to the body under those circumstancesâand why Clancy's reported temperature is medically possible.
Lindsay Clancy Was in 'Severe Hypothermia Territory'According to witness testimony during Clancy's trial, the mother of three used a knife to cut her wrists and her throat before jumping out the second story window of her home in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands and found Lindsay in the backyard. He called 911 and Lindsay along with her three children, who had been strangled in the basement of the home, were transported to nearby hospitals.
Lindsay's body temperature had dropped dramatically, prompting questions about how her body could have reached such a low temperature while she was outside. Dr. Chao explains.
"At 82.1 degrees F (roughly 27.8 Celsius), you are solidly in severe hypothermia territory. Get used to that fact. And believe it or not, no arcane measures are needed to reach that temperature," Chao says. "She was reportedly lying injured on the frozen ground on a January night in Massachusetts. A motionless trauma patient can lose 3-5 degrees F of core temperature per hour in that environment. Blood loss and shock decrease heat generation, so one of the numerous online discussions proclaiming such a temperature could not be reached in many hours outdoors fails basic physiology."
"Heat loss is only part of the problem," Chao continues. "Transection of the spinal cord near T5 and T6 severs the brain's connection to blood vessels and muscles below the chest. This cuts off the body's two primary heat-generating defenses below the level of injury: constriction of blood vessels and shivering. Trauma doctors refer to the resulting condition as poikilothermia, the tendency of the body to match the temperature of whatever surface it's sitting on."
"Below 28 Celsius, the heart gets cranky," Chao continues. "No surprise there; cardiac arrest was reported soon after her transfer. Rewarming is accomplished with warm IV fluids and forced-air blankets, and once arrest occurs, with extracorporeal rewarming on ECMO."
Would Lindsay Clancy's Body Temperature Drop in Just an Hour's Time?Parade asked Dr. Chao about the alleged timeline as many people have been wondering if the human body could drop 12 to 14 degrees in the amount of time that Lindsay was outside.
"A healthy adult loses perhaps 1-2 degrees F per hour if lying on the ground because intact nerves constrict blood vessels and move warm blood away from the surface to protect the core," Dr. Chao explains. "Loss of spinal cord function nullifies that protective mechanism instantly below the level of injury."
Chao went on to say that the "cooling period" extended from Lindsay's time in the backyard during a Massachusetts winter, to her being loaded into an ambulance and then the drive to the hospital where she was treated.
"Regardless, it stretched for significantly more than an hour, and it's entirely possible that her core temperature continued to drop through the early stages of her rewarming, a known hang-up dubbed the 'afterdrop,'" Chao says.

There's something about Pyrex that just feels like home. Maybe it's the memories of pies cooling on grandma's counter, or the way the glass catches the light when you pull a golden-brown dessert from the oven. There are myriad reasons this reliable brand has hit bestseller status.Â
If you've ever baked a pie, you know the importance of the right pan. That's probably why more than 1,600 Walmart shoppers have shared five-star reviews for the Pyrex Easy Grab 9.5-Inch Glass Pie Plate, now just $6. That means you can score a real Pyrex dish for less than a latte.
Pyrex Easy Grab 9.5-Inch Glass Pie Plate, $6 (was $10) at Walmart Shop at WalmartThat ease of use is what's driving the rave reviews (nearly 2,000 and counting, with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars). Shoppers keep mentioning how solid and reliable it feels. Some are buying extra pie plates for holiday baking, while others are finally upgrading from old, scratched pans. For less than six bucks, it's hard not to want a second (or a third).
This isn't just any old pie plate. The Easy Grab design actually lives up to its name. Wide, fluted rims and easy-to-hold handles make a real difference when you're moving a bubbling pie from the oven to the table. No more awkward fumbles with potholders. And if you're into making those fancy fluted crusts, the rim acts as the perfect guide.
Shoppers have called this their "favorite pie plate," noting that it's the "best" for "creating that perfect crimp." Others called it a "future heirloom" that's great for baking "a perfect pie."
"People fight over these pie plates, refusing to return them from family potlucks, so buy extra. Seriously, my cousin's wife refused to give mine back,â one reviewer said. âThese nostalgic pie plates make you want to bake often."
Pyrex has built its reputation on making products that hold up to years of heavy use, and this pie plate is no exception. It even comes with a two-year limited warranty. The tempered glass is thick and sturdy, which means even heating, no burnt edges or soggy bottoms.Â
You can use it for everything from classic apple pie to quiche or no-bake cheesecakes. It's roomy enough for generous fillings but still fits in a standard oven. Plus, cleanup is a breeze. The glass doesn't retain strawberry stains or hang onto weird smells, and it's safe for the microwave, freezer, dishwasher, and preheated oven.

Jimmy Fallon Gets the QVC Wig He Was Promised After Viral âBlowoutâ Gaffe
Jimmy Fallon got more than a laugh out of Toni Brattinâs viral QVC âblowoutâ gaffe. He got the wig.
Brattin, the wig designer who accidentally said âblow jobâ instead of âblowoutâ while demonstrating one of her hairpieces on live television, appeared on The Tonight Show Monday after Fallon poked fun at the viral moment during his monologue.
And she didnât arrive empty-handed.
After seeing Fallonâs joke about the mishap, Brattin told TMZ she had saved one of her wigs specifically for the late-night host and offered to bring it to him for his upcoming birthday. Fallon got his birthday present a little early when Brattin showed up on The Tonight Show with the promised Salon Select wig in hand.
âMy birthday is actually coming up ... and oh my,â Fallon said before Brattin surprised him with the wig.
âToni Brattin!â Fallon exclaimed as he started losing it onstage. Brattin, meanwhile, confidently stood beside him, swinging the wig around with one hand as Fallon dissolved into laughter.
âI think that you handled that perfectly, by the way. You really nailed it,â Fallon told her. âDid you just think you were off screen?â
âWell, you know, I kind of froze and I was trying to decide, do I go to the left? Do I go to the right? I just went down,â Brattin replied, sending the audience into another round of laughter.
Fallon then turned his attention to the wig.
âIs that wig for me?â he asked.
Brattin confirmed it was the famous Salon Select before Fallon asked her to help him try it on.
âSalon Select. You say this is for me. Would you do me the honors?â Fallon asked.
âCan I?â Brattin replied before helping him fit the wig onstage.
âOh, look at all that hair,â Brattin exclaimed as she fluffed the wig atop Fallonâs head. âAnd how about the volume in the back?â
Fallon was clearly sold.
âI love it,â he said. âIâm honored.â
The wig wasnât just a birthday gift, either. Fallon enlisted Brattin to help kick off the show, having her read the opening introduction in her own style before The Roots launched into the theme.
Watch Fallon get fitted with his new wig in the clip above.
â70s New Wave Legend Who Wrote 'Is She Really Going Out With Him?' Turns 72
Joe Jackson, the voice and mind behind one of the biggest new wave hits of the 1970s, is officially celebrating his birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 11. He is 72 years old.
The British singer-songwriter, born David Jackson, started learning instruments and getting into music at a young age, and at 18, he won a scholarship to attend the prestigious London's Royal Academy of Music in Londson to study musical composition.
Jackson started pursuing music professionally around this time. It was during his run with his first band, first called Edward Bear and then Arms and Legs, that he started going by the nickname "Joe" in reference to the main character of the British sci-fi show Joe 90. When Jackson was 20, he legally changed his first name to Joe.
In the late 1970s, Jackson finally found his sound. He released the debut album Look Sharp! in early 1979. The year before, Jackson dropped the first few singles from the record, including "Is She Really Going Out with Him?"
None of them got too much attention, but when appreciation for Look Sharp! started picking up in 1979, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" was re-released as a single in the middle of the year. The album and the song both experienced huge success from then on.
That year, a writer at the New York Times included the album on their list of the top 10 pop albums of 1979, calling it "power pop at its refreshing best." Meanwhile, the lead single broke into the Top 20 on U.K. charts and the Top 30 in the U.S. In total, it spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

Unbeknownst to Jackson at the time, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" would become a new wave classic, still beloved decades after its release.
Jackson continued releasing music over the years, including over 20 studio albums. He has been nominated for several Grammys, and some of his other hit songs include "Steppin' Out" and "It's Different for Girls."
Nowadays, Jackson is still busy touring and making music, with his 22nd studio album Hope and Fury coming out in April 2026.

1968 Hit, Called âDated but Never Out of Date,â Began 5-Week Run at No. 1 for The Rascals 58 Years Ago Today
In 1968, the Rascals scored the biggest hit of their career with a song whose message was inseparable from one of the most turbulent years in American history.
âPeople Got to Be Freeâ began a five-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Aug. 11, 1968, 58 years ago today. Written by Rascals members Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati, the song ultimately became the group's longest-running No. 1 hit.
Its upbeat sound belied the difficult events that helped inspire it.
According to music historian Fred Bronson's"The Billboard Book of Number One Hits," the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in the spring of 1968 deeply affected Cavaliere. He and Brigati responded by writing âPeople Got to Be Free,â a plea for equality and freedom.
Getting the song released, however, wasn't necessarily a sure thing.
Bronson wrote that Jerry Wexler at Atlantic Records was reluctant to release a political song because of concerns that doing so could hurt the Rascals' career. Cavaliere, however, âinsisted the song was important and needed to be released.â
The decision paid off spectacularly.
âPeople Got to Be Freeâ entered the Hot 100 at No. 64 on July 20, 1968. Six weeks later, it reached No. 1 and remained there for five consecutive weeks, becoming the Rascals' biggest hit.
It wasn't their first trip to the top. The band had previously reached No. 1 with âGood Lovin'â in 1966 and âGroovin'â in 1967. But neither stayed there as long as âPeople Got to Be Free.â
The song's success also came amid a remarkable stretch for the group. Earlier in 1968, âA Beautiful Morningâ had reached No. 3, giving the Rascals another major hit before âPeople Got to Be Freeâ took over the charts that summer.
Decades later, longtime rock critic Dave Marsh included âPeople Got to Be Freeâ in his book "The Heart of Rock & Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made," ranking it No. 237.
Marsh acknowledged just how closely the record is tied to the era in which it was made, describing it as âwritten from the fullest immersion in the glorious naivete of the times.â
But that was also part of its enduring appeal.
Marsh ultimately summed up the record with a particularly memorable assessment: âDated but never out of date.â
âPeople Got to Be Freeâ was also seen at the time as part of an important musical evolution for the Rascals. In a 1970 Rolling Stone profile of the group, the magazine traced the band's roots in R&B and soul and argued that the Rascals eventually moved beyond simply interpreting those influences.
The magazine specifically pointed to âGroovinâ,â âA Girl Like Youâ and âPeople Got to Be Freeâ as examples of the group developing a musical identity of its own, writing that the Rascals had âsubmerged themselves in the form and then surfacedâ with what the writer called âa kind of funky alchemy.â
The Rascals backed up the song's message with action. According to the background provided, the band began insisting that a Black act appear on the bill at their concerts and even canceled shows when promoters would not comply.
âPeople Got to Be Freeâ eventually sold more than four million copies, and Billboard ranked it among the biggest songs of 1968. Nearly six decades after its release, the song remains one of the defining recordings of the Rascals' career and a musical snapshot of a year when the group decided that what it wanted to say was worth fighting to release.
'Below Deck Medâs Cooper Dawson Asks Fans to Roast Him, and They Call Out His âCharlestonâ Behavior
Fansâand not to mention Katrina âKatâ Johnstonâwere shocked by the 180-degree turn deckhand Cooper Dawson pulled on Below Deck Mediterranean, suddenly blowing her off during a crew night out. Clearly, Cooper knew he had some explaining to do, because he took to Instagram and asked fans to ârip me a new oneâ in the comments. And boy, did they deliver.
Kat and Cooper had been shaping up to be one of the most wholesome boatmances in Below Deck Med until Coop suddenly got cold feet when his crewmates started asking about their relationship status. Instead of talking to Kat about his feelings, Cooper pulled away from her while flirting with other women during a crew night out, leaving Kat confused about where they stood.
The two eventually talked things out and decided to keep their romance on the down lowâwhich, judging by the fan reaction, is clearly not going to work. Cooper apparently tried to get ahead of the discourse by inviting fans to roast him on Instagram, writing, âUse this comment section to rip me a new one.â
View this post on InstagramFans wasted no time, with many comparing Cooperâs behavior to the Peter Pan-esque men of Southern Charm, Bravoâs Charleston-based series. The comparison seemed especially fitting considering Cooper is also from Charleston, with one fan bluntly declaring, âTypical Charleston guy,â while another accused him of âdoing the Charleston sât we are used to on other Bravo shows.â
Others compared him directly to Southern Charmâs Austen Kroll, with one commenter writing, âYou are looking like Austen Kroll on tonightâs episode.â Another simply summed up Cooperâs behavior with, âYA DONE GOOFED!!!â
Jesse Solomon from Summer House even weighed in asking, "Whatâd ya do coop!!" Cooper replied, "Iâve been bad brother."
Meanwhile, Kat posted after the episode, writing, "I cry a lot but I am so productive." One person commented, "Girl you are the best. South Carolina needs to teach their men how to behave. That was not an apology. You deserve better."
So will Cooper and Kat's plan to keep their romance under wraps work in their favor?
Below Deck Mediterranean airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.

The Animalsâ 1968 Rock Hit Took Aim at the Vietnam War
The Animals were already known for bluesy rock hits when they released a very different kind of song in 1968.
"Sky Pilot" tackled the Vietnam War through the story of a military chaplain who sends young soldiers into battle while offering prayers for their safety. The ambitious recording became one of the band's most politically charged songs.
Written by Eric Burdon and John Weider, "Sky Pilot" reflected the growing antiwar sentiment of the late 1960s. Rather than simply celebrating or condemning soldiers, the song focused on the complicated role of religion and authority during wartime.
The track was unusually long for a pop single and featured an arrangement that shifted between quieter passages and the sounds of battle. The recording incorporated military imagery and a marching feel, reinforcing the tension at the heart of the lyrics.
"Sky Pilot" was released in 1968 and became another major hit for The Animals, reaching the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song also generated controversy.
Its antiwar message arrived at a time when American involvement in Vietnam was becoming increasingly divisive. The Animals were no longer simply singing about heartbreak or blues themes; they were using a mainstream rock record to address one of the most contentious political issues of the era.
That helped give "Sky Pilot" a place in the broader history of protest music from the 1960s.
More than five decades later, the song remains one of the clearest examples of The Animals moving beyond their early blues-rock identity.
"Sky Pilot" showed that the band could use its music to comment on the world around it, and that a rock song could be both a hit and a pointed statement about war.

Every August, thousands of die-hard Elvis Presley fans make a pilgrimage to Memphis to celebrate the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

The Pioneer Womanâs 'Whimsical' $29 Floral and Gingham Ceramic Serving Tray Trio Is the Epitome of Country Charm
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Not to be cheesy, but The Pioneer Woman truly did pioneer the farmhouse resurgence. Long before country kitchens and rustic decor became practically unavoidable, Ree Drummond was bringing her signature collection of cheerful florals, classic gingham, vintage-inspired details, and colorful country charm into everyday homes. Her style has always made decorating feel approachable instead of overly precious, with pieces that are just as useful as they are pretty.
If you want to add some of her signature touch to your home, The Pioneer Woman Floral Medley 3-Piece Ceramic Serving Platter Set is $29 at Walmart. That works out to under $10 per tray, giving you three different pieces to mix throughout your kitchen and dining space. Whether youâre serving homemade biscuits, arranging appetizers for friends, or simply looking for a pretty way to corral kitchen odds and ends, these trays can do it all.
The Pioneer Woman Floral Medley 3-Piece Ceramic Serving Platter Set, $29 at Walmart Shop at WalmartThe floral patterning gives this three-piece serving set a distinctly collected look, with each platter using its own background color and floral arrangement while sharing the same cheerful, nostalgic design language. Rather than making three identical pieces, the set mixes bold florals, contrasting borders, and different color combinations, meaning that the platters can be used together as a coordinated spread or individually throughout the kitchen. Each narrow ceramic tray measures approximately 14.17 inches long, with a defined elongated shape that's well-suited to arranging appetizers, desserts, fruit, or other small bites.
The white-and-cream platter provides the lightest backdrop of the three, with a crisp base that lets its colorful centerpiece take over. A generous bouquet of the signature open-faced roses fills the center, combining vivid red and sunny yellow blooms with smaller blue wildflowers and leafy green accents. The arrangement has the look of a traditional country garden brought indoors, while a fine decorative line follows the inner rim, emphasizing the platter's scalloped edges.Â
The teal platter takes the palette in a deeper, more saturated direction, using a rich turquoise-blue background to make its scattered floral design pop. Instead of one large central bouquet, smaller white, red, and yellow blossoms appear along winding vines that trail across the surface, giving the piece a more open and organic composition. The bright white flowers are especially striking against the dark teal ground, while a repeating dot- or lace-inspired motif adds definition around the inner handle area.Â

The yellow and red accent platter brings the warmest combination to the set, with a buttery yellow-to-cream base covered in denser clusters of country-style blooms. Rich red flowers dominate the arrangement, punctuated by smaller marigold-yellow and cobalt-blue buds for contrast. A deeper red or teal border around the scalloped edges gives this platter a more graphic finish and helps frame all of the color in the floral design.Â

Samâs Clubâs New Heat-and-Serve Meal Is Comfort Food at Its Finest
Few things say comfort food better than a cheesy pasta dish. And right now, Samâs Club has a brand-new offering that brings all those creamy, comforting flavors to the table with barely any effort.

The new arrival was shared by @samsclubfavorites on August 8:

Samâs Clubâs New Marry Me Chicken Makes Dinner EasyIf the name sounds familiar, thereâs a reason. Marry Me Chicken has become a popular comfort-food dish known for pairing tender chicken with a creamy Parmesan sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, and herbs. Samâs Club takes that combination one indulgent step further by adding tortellini.
The tortellini are filled with a blend of five cheeses. Fresh spinach adds some color to the dish, while sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, and basil help give the Parmesan cream sauce plenty of flavor.
And despite everything going on in that tray, dinner couldnât be much easier.

For stovetop preparation, Samâs Club recommends adding the desired amount to a covered skillet, bringing the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, and cooking for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring every two minutes, until the meal reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. It can also be microwaved in 2-minute increments for a total of 4-8 minutes, depending on how much youâre heating.
That ability to prepare only what you need is another nice touch. The package is resealable before cooking, so you donât necessarily have to make all three-plus pounds at once.
Between the creamy sauce, cheesy tortellini, and grilled chicken, this certainly looks like a dinner that could make an ordinary weeknight feel a little more indulgent. And considering it only takes about 10 minutes to get it on the table, Samâs Club is already making comfort food season a whole lot easier.

1980 No. 1 Classic Rock Hit Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts Again Exactly 46 Years Later
One of the biggest songs of 1980Â is making a return climb up the charts 46 years later. Queenâs âAnother One Bites the Dustâ has re-entered Billboardâs Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart at No. 25 for the week ending Aug. 15.
Written by bassist John Deacon, âAnother One Bites the Dustâ originally appeared on the legendary rock bandâs 1980 album The Game. Featuring a driving bassline hook, thumping drums, and Freddie Mercuryâs masterful vocals that somehow camouflaged the songâs darker meaning, the song was a smash, making its debut on the charts in August 1980 before reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in October 1980.
More than 45 years later, the song is back on the charts thanks to streaming, TikTokmemes, and the recent resurgence of Queenâs  1981 Greatest Hits album.
Queen became known for changing things up. With its disco-funk vibe, âAnother One Bites the Dustâ is a world apart from songs such as âBohemian Rhapsodyâ and âWe Are the Champions.â
Queen guitarist Brian May told Guitar Player that the changes were every intentional, although sometimes uncomfortable.
âWe went out on a few limbs,â he said in 2021. âWe had this idea that we never should repeat ourselves, so we deliberately put ourselves in different situations of writing and recording just so we would keep moving and keep breaking down any barriers that might seem to be there.â
âI felt another barrier was broken with âAnother One Bites the Dust,ââ he added. âTo various degrees, sometimes we werenât totally comfortable with it, and certainly Roger [Taylor] wasnât very comfortable with that song. He didnât want his drums to sound like that really, but the idea was supported by John and also by Freddie, who got brilliantly passionate about how we would have this very sparse, tight little sound for the drums and everything would be very spare.â
When writing  the song, Deacon was reportedly influenced by Nile Rodgers' Chic hit âGood Times.â
âItâs very Nile Rodgers, and John absolutely adored him â we all do,â May confirmed to Guitar World. âJohn was very influenced by him, without a doubt.â
Rodgers acknowledged the similar bass lines in an interview with The Guardian, where he noted that he previously spent time with Deacon in the studio.
âOne year to the day [after âGood Timesâ reached the top], the number one hit was âAnother One Bites the Dust by Queen,â and it sounded⊠like âGood Times!ââ the Chic founder shared. "It was clearly an homage, not to mention that John Deacon was with me in the studio when I wrote the damn thing!â
Nearly 50 years later, âAnother One Bites the Dustâ remains Queenâs ultimate homage to rock, funk and disco influencesâ a simple but powerful masterpiece that resonates with fans to this day.

Cher Scored Her Biggest No. 1 Hit 33 Years After Her FirstâBut One Major Regret Left Her Paying the Price
Cher has never been one to hold back, especially when it comes to her own career decisions.
Decades after proving she could conquer the charts on her own terms, the pop legend scored the biggest hit of her entire life, surpassing her early success with ex-Sonny Bono. But behind the record-breaking monster track was a single, behind-the-scenes decision that still stings.
In July 1965, Sonny & Cher topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks with "I Got You, Babe." The song was a huge hit and helped define a spectacular career that followed, making the duo one of the most successful married couples in entertainment history.
However, it wasn't until March 1999 that Cher, as a solo artist, topped her early success with the dance track "Believe." The song was a smash, claiming Billboard's top spot for four weeks, surpassing her earlier success.

Behind the studio doors of "Believe," however, Cher made a choice that cost her far more than she anticipated. She discussed the error in a 2023 sit-down with The Guardian.
Cher liked the lyrics of "Believe" but wanted its lead character to be more confident. She revealed, "I thought, âA girl can be sad in one verse, but she canât be sad in two verses.ââ
The multi-hyphenate continued, âI just wonât have it. So, then I thought of the lines, âIâve had time to think it through / and maybe Iâm too good for you.â I should have asked for a writing credit. I was so stupid!â
In a subsequent interview on BBC2's Tracks of My Years, Cher added the following statement to her original remarks. "I was so stupid I didn't ask. I could've gotten a lot of money."
"Believe" has writing credits attributed to Brian Higgins, Paul Barry, Steven Torch, Matthew Gray, Timothy Powell, and Stuart McLennan. Cher is not listed as a songwriter on the track.
The Recording Academy reported the song "reached No. 1 in 21 different countries across the globe (including a four-week stint at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.), and sold 11 million copies." However, in addition to beating her own chart-topping record, "Believe" was impactful in the music industry for many other reasons.
RELATED: The Cher Song That Shocked Everyone â and Topped the Charts
The song earned Cher her first Grammy Award. Although she was previously nominated with then-husband Sonny Bono for Best New Artist (1966) and Best Pop Duo (1972), plus a solo Best Female Pop Vocal nod in 1972 for "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves," the win took 33 years to arrive.
The secret success behind "Believe" wasn't just a great beat and Cher's vocals; it was a studio trick nobody saw coming. According to the Recording Academy, Auto-Tune was typically used as a tool to correct recording session mistakes.
However, her producers leaned into the sound, giving Cherâs unmistakable voice a wild twist. She dug her heels in when her record label asked for Auto-Tune to be removed.
Cher's instincts were spot on. She refused to back down, and "Believe" created a sound that was used in the music industry for years after.
Losing out on royalties for the biggest hit song of your life likely wasn't easy to brush off, but Cher has never been one to feel sorry for herself. Three decades after "I Got You Babe," she showed the entire music industry she could still own the charts on her own termsâeven if she didn't get the credit she deserved.

The Perseid Meteor Shower Is About to Light Up the SkyâHereâs the Best Time to Watch
The Perseid meteor shower is one of those special summer traditions that makes stepping outside after dark feel magical. Every August, the Earth passes through a trail of tiny bits of dust and debris left behind by a comet. As those particles slam into our atmosphere at tremendous speeds, they heat up and glow. And that creates the streaks of light we call shooting stars. And this year, the Perseids are getting an especially great backdrop.
The 2026 Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak overnight August 12 into the early morning hours of August 13, and there will be virtually no moonlight competing with the meteors. That is because the Moon is at its New Moon phase on August 12. For meteor watchers, that is excellent news: A bright Moon can wash out fainter meteors, while a moonless sky allows more of those fleeting streaks to stand out against the darkness. NASA calls the Perseids one of the best annual meteor showers. They say that no telescope is required to enjoy it.
There is another remarkable sky event happening on August 12: a total solar eclipse. But here's an important distinction for American skywatchers. The eclipse will not be total anywhere in the United States. Totality or the brief period when the Moon completely covers the Sun, will cross Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain, and a small part of Portugal. Parts of North America, including portions of the United States, will see only a partial solar eclipse. The two events are connected because the solar eclipse occurs at New Moon, giving Perseid watchers an unusually dark sky that night.

What Is the Perseid Meteor Shower? In very simple terms, the Perseids happen when Earth runs into a stream of debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The tiny particles enter Earth's atmosphere at about 37 miles per second, heat up and glow, and appear as quick streaks across the sky.
The shower is named for the constellation Perseus, because the meteors appear to radiate from a point in that part of the sky. But you don't have to stare directly at Perseus. Meteors can streak across a large portion of the sky.
Under ideal dark-sky conditions, skywatchers can see dozens of Perseids per hour, with some estimates reaching 90 or more meteors per hour around the peak. The actual number you see will depend on weather, light pollution and how much of the sky is visible from your location.
Related: Meteor Showers Are Going to Light Up the Sky This Weekâ Hereâs Where (And How) to See Them
How Do You View the Perseid Meteor Shower? The good news is that you don't need a telescope, binoculars or any expensive equipment. In fact, a telescope is not particularly useful for a meteor shower because its narrow field of view means you see less of the sky where meteors can appear.
Instead, make it easy. Grab a blanket or reclining lawn chair, head somewhere dark, put on some bug spray and look up. Give your eyes about 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness, and try to avoid looking at your phone as much as possible. The darker your surroundings, the more meteors you'll be able to spot.
What is the Ideal Way to See the Perseid Meteor Shower? For the best chance of seeing a show, plan to be outside after midnight on August 12 and into the early morning of August 13, with the hours before dawn generally offering the best viewing. The Perseid radiant rises later in the evening and is highest around dawn.
What Time Should You Go Outside to See the Perseid Meteor Shower? For most viewers in the United States, around midnight is a good time to start. But don't give up if the first few minutes are quiet. Your chances generally improve as the night gets later.
The predicted peak occurs at 14:53 UTC on August 13, which falls during daylight in much of the United States. That's why the practical advice for American viewers is to watch during the overnight hours of August 12â13, particularly the predawn hours of August 13.
And don't worry about missing the exact minute of the peak. The Perseids are active from mid-July into late August, with activity building toward the August peak and declining afterward.
Where Can You View the Perseid Meteor Shower? The Perseids are best viewed from a dark location away from city lights, and the shower is visible throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere. A rural field, beach, campground, backyard away from bright lights or a designated dark-sky area can all work. The farther you get from streetlights, buildings and city glow, the better.
If you live in a city, don't assume you have to give up. Find the darkest, most open spot available and give yourself as wide a view of the sky as possible. The meteors can appear anywhere overhead.
Do I Need Any Equipment to Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower? Here's a particularly appealing reason to make this a family night. There is no special equipment required. A blanket, snacks, bug spray and a little patience are enough.
How Can I Watch the Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026?This is where the 2026 sky calendar gets really exciting. On August 12, a total solar eclipse will cross Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small part of Portugal. In North America, the eclipse will be partial only. For example, NASA says New York City will see about 9% of the Sun covered, while Philadelphia will see about 7%.
So if you're in the United States, don't confuse the two events: You will not see totality. You will see a partial solar eclipse during the day and, weather permitting, a spectacularly dark sky for the Perseids that night.
Anyone viewing the partial solar eclipse must use proper eclipse glasses or another safe solar-viewing method. Never look directly at the partially eclipsed Sun without appropriate eye protection.
Upcoming Sky Events to WatchAugust 12 - Total Solar Eclipse
Totality will be visible in parts of Greenland, Iceland and Spain, as well as other locations along the eclipse path. North America will see a partial eclipse, while livestreams will allow people elsewhere to follow totality.
August 27â28 - Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse
The summer sky show doesn't end with the Perseids. On August 27â28, 2026, a deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible across North America and other parts of the world.Earth will cast its shadow across the Moon in a deep partial lunar eclipse visible across much of North America. At maximum eclipse, about 96.2% of the Moon's area will be within Earth's darkest shadow.
So mark the calendar: August 12â13 for the âPitch-Blackâ Perseids, and August 27â28 for the deep partial lunar eclipse. All you really need is a clear nightâand a reason to stay up late.

This Unexpected Destination Was Just Named the No. 1 Spot in the World for Retired Travelers
If you're approaching retirement age and daydreaming about your next big international getaway, your bucket list might need a sudden refresh.
While traditional retirement rankings tend to focus strictly on tax rates, cheap real estate, and permanent visa requirements, a new global study is taking a completely different approach for active "golden gap year" travelers. Instead of asking where you should move, travel specialist Firebird Tours set out to answer a much more exciting question: Where in the world does being a 60-something traveler actually beat being 20?
Analyzing 100 countries across seven senior-centric metricsâincluding the density of the older population, walkability, safety, healthcare infrastructure, senior discounts, and age-rewarding cultural experiencesâthe study crowned Japan as the No. 1 country in the world for retired travelers.
Related: This Sun-Soaked Country in the Mediterranean Was Named the Best Place to Retire in 2026
Why Japan Captured the GoldJapan didn't just win the top spotâit dominated the rankings by the largest margin of any country in the study, scoring nearly double the points of its runner-up.
As the home to the world's highest proportion of residents over 65 (making up roughly 29.5% of the total population), Japanâs infrastructure is exceptionally well-tailored to mature travelers. From elite healthcare systems and world-class public transport to unrivaled safety scores and age-friendly perksâlike 100% free senior admission to iconic cultural institutions like the Tokyo National Museumâthe country makes navigating major cities effortless and rewarding for older adults.

European Favorites and SurprisesWhile Asia took the top crown, Europe claimed eight of the top 10 spots on the leaderboard.
Germany secured the No. 2 position globally, while Slovenia emerged as the study's biggest surprise by taking fourth placeâoutranking heavyweights like Spain, France, Italy, and the United States. Slovenia earned high marks for its stellar safety ratings, accessible green capital city of Ljubljana, and rich concentration of historic sites.
Meanwhile, Canada landed as the only North American destination in the top 10, coming in at seventh place globally. Canada comfortably outpaced the United States (which finished in 20th place), largely driven by significantly higher safety scores and walkable, senior-friendly metropolitan hubs.
Related: This Stunning Mountain State Was Officially Named the Best Place to Retire In the U.S.
Luxury Doesn't Always Mean Senior-FriendlyOne of the study's most eye-opening takeaways was that high-end luxury doesn't automatically translate to a great retirement trip. Case in point: France ranked 24th overall. Despite boasting the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world (641 in total), France fell behind due to steeper costs, walking hurdles, and lower accessibility scores for mature visitors.
The study also uncovered a major catch regarding senior savings: most generous public transit discounts around the globe actually exclude international tourists. While nations like Japan, Australia, and Portugal offer up to 100% transit discounts for resident seniors, Denmark took top honors for foreign visitors by offering a generous 70% transit discount that non-residents can actually use.
Whether you're planning a multi-week train tour across East Asia or exploring the fairytale landscapes of Central Europe, the findings prove that the best retirement trips prioritize ease, safety, and cultural appreciation above all else.

The Animalsâ Rock Hit Became an Unofficial Anthem for U.S. Troops
One of The Animals' most recognizable songs came from two American songwriters who had already built an impressive catalog of hits before the British band ever recorded it.
"We Gotta Get Out of This Place" was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the husband-and-wife songwriting team behind numerous pop classics. The Animals recorded their version in 1965, turning the song into one of the defining tracks of their early career.
Mann and Weil originally wrote the song after moving to the West Coast, drawing inspiration from their own experiences and observations of life around them. Their songwriting had already produced hits for artists including The Drifters and The Righteous Brothers.
The Animals' recording gave the song a much harder edge.
Lead singer Eric Burdon delivered the lyrics with a raw urgency that made the central plea (wanting to escape a difficult life) sound like a personal cry. The band's blues-rock approach helped distinguish their recording from the polished pop sound associated with many of the songwriting duo's other compositions.
Released in 1965, the song became a major international hit and reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Its reputation grew even further in the years that followed.
Because of its lyrics about wanting to escape a bleak environment and find something better, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" became particularly associated with American troops during the Vietnam War. Soldiers reportedly embraced the song as an unofficial anthem, giving the Animals' recording a cultural significance far beyond the pop charts.
The song's association with Vietnam has become one of the most enduring parts of its legacy. Decades later, it continued to appear on lists of songs remembered by Vietnam veterans, alongside other recordings that came to symbolize the experience of American troops.
