1977 Rock Epic, Lasting Nearly 16 Minutes, Remains a Classic 49 Years Later

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 5:04pm

Yes ended Going for the One, their 1977 album, with "Awaken." The track runs nearly 16 minutes, and many fans still call it a "masterpiece."

By August 1975, Yes had wrapped their tour in support of their seventh studio album, Relayer. The lineup at the time featured vocalist Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White and keyboardist Patrick Moraz.

Afterward, the band took a break, but that didn't mean the music stopped. Each member worked on a solo album before the band reunited for the Solo Albums tour.

In October 1976, Yes had relocated to Montreux, Switzerland, where they began recording their next studio album at Mountain Studios.

Two months into the recording process, Moraz was suddenly fired from the band. The decision came as a shock to him.

Anderson later explained that Moraz "just wasn't playing like he was involved," adding that his sound wasn't "too good, and that affected his vibe ... it was obvious that he just wasn't getting off on what we were doing."

However, Moraz said he left because of "the enormous psychological pressures at the time within the group." He added, "I felt there were a few things going on that I didn't know," and “unfortunately some people did not play the game fair."

The band soon turned to Rick Wakeman, who had left Yes in 1974 following disagreements over their album Tales from Topographic Oceans. Yes manager Brian Lane and business partner Alex Scott brought him back to contribute to Going for the One, initially as a session musician.

When he arrived in Switzerland, he was shocked by how much everyone had changed. "We began relating to each other for the first time. I think we had all grown up and became much more mature. Maybe I had to grow up more than them," he said, per Single of the Week.

As writing continued, the album began taking on a new sound. Most tracks leaned shorter, but "Awaken" became one of the band's most ambitious works.

The nearly sixteen-minute track started with a guitar riff Howe couldn't stop playing. Anderson kept hearing it through his hotel room door, and eventually started singing lyrics over it.

“I teamed up with Steve Howe every time I could,” Anderson told Louder Sound, looking back on the songwriting process.

“I remember very clearly, on the way to breakfast, hearing Steve play a guitar phrase in his room. I had breakfast and he was still playing it. So I opened the door and said: ‘Can you change the key there, Steve?’”

He continued, “So he did, and I started singing: ‘Workings of man set to ply out historical life, regaining the flower of the fruit of his tree…’ It just popped out.”

When Going for the One was released, it became a hit, reaching No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 8 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Fans today still discuss the album, and "Awaken's" role in its success. On Reddit, one user discussing the song wrote, "I think Awaken is, by most fans, considered a masterpiece."

“The last minute or so, especially Howe's guitar trill at the end... every time, it hits me so wistfully. I stop and close my eyes and dream for a moment,” another shared of their experience listening to the track.

“I'm a huge Yes fan, and Awaken easily remains my all-time favorite song of theirs. It showcases everything they do musically amazingly,” a third wrote, while another declared, “It is the best song of all time.”

1980 Hit Song Featured in an Iconic Drama Ranked No. 2 Best Use of Classic Rock in Movies

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:45pm

An Officer and a Gentleman strolled into theaters on July 28, 1982, and brought with it a legendary soundtrack featuring gritty rock anthems, soaring romantic pop songs, and a moody instrumental score. But its best use of classic rock, according to Radio X, might come as a surprise. It’s not the massive, chart-topping duet courtesy of Joe Cocker and JenniferWarnes, “Up Where We Belong.” Instead, the outlet says it’s Dire Straits’ epic narrative-driven masterpiece, “Tunnel of Love.”

“It's the moment when you know you're really on to something,” Mark Knopfler said about writing “Tunnel of Love.” “There's a certain part of the song that I call the breakdown, and when I got there I could feel the drums, the piano, all the things that I wanted all the instruments to do. When you get to that state, there's a strange sense of one thing following another, of elements falling into place quite naturally.”

Released in October 1980 as part of the album Making Movies, and a year later as a single in several countries but not the U.S., “Tunnel of Love” is as cinematic as the film it soundtracks. Blending storytelling with nostalgia and big guitars, it’s driven by seaside memories of an amusement park, a bittersweet encounter, and a sweeping musical arrangement.

It’s a fitting backdrop for one of the film’s most memorable early scenes, quietly underscoring the chemistry between the film’s two leads.

In An Officer and a Gentleman, “Tunnel of Love” plays on a jukebox in the background of a dimly lit casual local bar located near the navy base where the officer candidates go to hang out. Zach Mayo, played by Richard Gere, and Paula Pokrifki, played by Debra Winger, banter and flirt, with the atmospheric eight-minute track framing their budding romance.

The film was a box office smash, grossing $190 million worldwide and ranking as one of the highest-grossing films of 1982. The following year, the film, directed by Taylor Hackford and written by Douglas Day Stewart, was nominated for six Academy Awards, including BestActress and Best Writing. Louis Gossett Jr., who plays Sgt. Emil Foley, won Best Supporting Actor, with Jack Nitzsche, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Will Jennings all winning Best Music.

The song was another success story, though it didn’t start that way. Following a modest showing on the U.K.’s charts when it was released as a single, it became a beloved fan-favorite epic over the years, with the hit film helping it reach even wider audiences.

According to Songfacts, “Tunnel of Love” is a semi-autobiographical composition written by Mark Knopfler. A reminiscent tale about the fairgrounds at the Spanish City in Whitley Bay, the song kicks off with a sample of “The Carousel Waltz” by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

“As a boy, Knopfler lived in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, about 10 miles away,” Songfacts wrote. “The fair may have been what inspired him to pursue a musical career; he said once that it was the first place he heard rock 'n' roll played really loud. It would eventually close, but for a while ‘Tunnel of Love’ was its unofficial anthem.”

The amusement park may have closed, but with the film and the music video starring Leslie Ash, “Tunnel of Love” still shines.

Erin Murphy, 62, Who Played Tabitha Stevens on ‘Bewitched,’ Glows in a Gown-And-Pearls Car Selfie

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:30pm

Bewitched star Erin Murphy was once one of the most famous child stars in the world, but she's only gotten better with age.

The actress, 62, who was just a baby when she took on the role of Tabitha Stephens in Bewitched, played the tiny witch on the show from 1966 to 1972. The series followed beloved good witch Samantha Stevens (played by the legendary Elizabeth Montgomery) as she navigated life and motherhood alongside her non-witch husband, Darrin. Tabitha, with her blond hair and adorable looks, inherited the same sneaky witchcraft skills as her mother, to her father’s dismay. Hilarity ensued!

In a new car selfie, Murphy was dressed to the nines and "feeling fancy." Sporting a cream-colored gown and gold pearls, the blonde beauty made it clear that while she was adorable as a kid, she's downright stunning as an adult.

Murphy Keeps Up With Fans on Social Media

Murphy loves to keep up with her fans and followers on social media. The dazzling blonde, who appears ageless at 62, posts updates on everything from her professional to family life.

View this post on Instagram A Potential Bewitched Reboot

One of the most common questions Murphy fields is whether she’d participate in a reboot of Bewitched.

“If they asked me to appear on the show, absolutely I would! I’d love to be included in some way, and I know fans of the original Bewitched would enjoy that fun reference to the past,” Murphy said in a recent interview with New Idea.

That may come in handy, because back in November, Deadline reported that an hourlong reimagining of the classic TV series was in development. A bit different from the original, the new series would follow Samantha and Darrin, who fall in love at first sight.

“But in order to be together, they’ll have to navigate their disapproving parents, walk a tightrope of cultural clashes, and bridge the divides between their families and worlds,” the description continued.

Until then, here’s a classic scene with Tabitha from the original series:

The Real Reason Tupperware Parties Ruled the 1970s

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:24pm

Before meal prep containers filled social media feeds and before every kitchen drawer held a mismatched collection of plastic tubs with mysterious missing lids, there was one name that seemed to own the world of food storage—Tupperware.

The story began in the 1940s when inventor Earl Tupper developed lightweight plastic containers with an airtight seal that kept food fresher for longer. The idea was clever, but there was one problem: people didn't understand how to use them. The famous "burp" seal required a little demonstration, and simply placing the containers on store shelves wasn't enough to convince shoppers. This conundrum is what started a marketing revolution.

😋😋 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳🍔

Instead of relying on department stores, Tupperware found its true home around coffee tables, kitchen islands and suburban living rooms. Friendly hosts invited neighbors over for games, snacks, laughter and what looked suspiciously like an ordinary social gathering. Somewhere between slices of cake and cups of coffee, colorful bowls and stackable containers would appear, followed by enthusiastic demonstrations that somehow made leftovers seem exciting.

By the 1970s, these gatherings had become a cultural phenomenon. Tupperware parties weren't just about buying kitchen containers—they became neighborhood events, networking opportunities and surprisingly powerful stepping stones for thousands of women looking to earn an income on their own terms. What appeared to be a simple sales party was actually changing lives, one colorful plastic bowl at a time.

Take a look back and learn the backstory of the Tupperware party and how it left its mark in history.

The Living Room Sales Pitch That Took Over Suburbia

Throughout the 1970s, living rooms across suburban America turned into temporary showrooms. Friends and neighbors gathered in someone's home, chatted over punch and homemade cookies, and settled in for what felt more like a social get-together than a shopping event.

Then came the demonstration. Brightly colored bowls, pitchers and storage containers spread across the coffee table. Lids snapped into place with a satisfying seal. Bowls were stacked into towering displays. Containers were dropped to prove they could survive tumbles that would have shattered glass. People laughed, asked questions and started thinking about how much easier these containers could make everyday life.

That was the real genius of the Tupperware party. Instead of seeing products sitting on a store shelf, customers watched them being used in real life. The demonstration made the containers feel practical, and because the recommendation came from friends and neighbors rather than a salesperson, it felt genuine. Shopping became entertainment. Decades before influencer marketing, Tupperware had already figured out that people trust people they know.

The Real Reason: A Loophole for Women's Financial Independence

Fairfax Media Archives / Getty Images

The colorful bowls were only part of the story. During the 1970s, many married women still faced real barriers to financial independence. Traditional full-time careers weren't always practical or available, especially for mothers with young children. Flexible work was hard to find, and many households still expected women to handle most of the childcare and household responsibilities.

Tupperware parties offered another option. Women could schedule demonstrations around family life, earn commissions, and build a business without renting a storefront or making a large financial investment. Their customers were often friends, neighbors, coworkers and relatives, making it possible to build a business through relationships they already had.

For some consultants, the extra income helped pay the bills. For others, it grew into a full-time career with leadership opportunities, bonuses and recognition. Many earned enough to make a meaningful contribution to their household finances, while others gained a level of financial independence that hadn't seemed realistic before.

The money mattered, but it wasn't the only benefit. Hosting parties, speaking to groups, organizing schedules and managing sales gave many women valuable business experience at a time when traditional professional opportunities were still limited. The bowls stored leftovers, but the business itself gave many consultants something even more valuable—confidence and opportunity.

The Indestructible Magic of '70s Plastic

Part of Tupperware's appeal came from its almost legendary durability. Families passed containers down from one generation to the next, turning these pieces into heirlooms. Lids still sealed tightly after years of daily use. Bowls survived falls from countertops, family picnics, packed lunches, road trips and countless runs through the dishwasher.

The colors became part of the nostalgia too. Harvest gold, burnt orange, olive green and sunny yellow were the most popular hues at the time, and Tupperware leaned into that. They looked right at home in a 1970s kitchen. Opening a grandparent's cupboard today can still feel like opening a small time capsule.

People also loved telling stories about their collections. Almost everyone seemed to know someone who owned a bowl older than their youngest child or a pitcher that had somehow survived decades of daily use, multiple moves and more than a few accidental drops.

Over time, the containers became more than just plastic. They held birthday cakes, holiday leftovers, handwritten family recipes and ordinary meals that later became cherished memories. That's part of the reason vintage Tupperware still inspires so much nostalgia.

Why the Tupperware Party Eventually Died

Patrice PICOT / Getty Images

Like many cultural trends, the Tupperware party gradually faded as the world changed. Women gained access to a much wider range of career opportunities, making home party sales less appealing as one of the few flexible ways to earn income. Shopping habits changed too. Big box retailers made food storage containers easy to buy without waiting for an invitation to someone's house.

Into the early 2000s, online shopping changed everything. Consumers could compare products, read reviews and order new containers without leaving home. Social media replaced neighborhood gatherings as a way to discover products, and e-commerce gave companies entirely new ways to reach customers.

The social side of the parties faded as well. People's schedules became busier, making it harder to gather a room full of neighbors for an evening demonstration. Younger generations generally preferred convenience over hosted sales events, and direct-selling companies found themselves competing with endless online brands.

Even so, the Tupperware party left a lasting mark. Long before livestream shopping, affiliate marketing and social media influencers, Tupperware had already discovered a simple truth—people are more likely to buy something when the recommendation comes from someone they trust.

The products may have been plastic bowls, but the bigger story was always about community, entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for women where few existed. The parties have mostly disappeared, but their influence on sales, marketing and women's business history is still easy to see today.

Celebrity Stylist Says This Cooling Fabric Should Be a 'Heatwave Staple' for Women Over 50

As summer continues to heat up, many areas of the country have been experiencing scorching temperatures over the last few weeks. With no relief in sight, many Americans are looking for ways to stay cool as the mercury rises. Unfortunately, you can't spend every waking moment in a pool. However, you can cool yourself down with some lightweight, sweat-wicking clothes. On our quest to find the best cooling fabrics for hot weather, we consulted a celebrity stylist, and she told us the cooling fabric that should be a heatwave staple for women over 50.

Julie Matos has worked with Julianne Moore, Jane Lynch, Glenn Close, Sofía Vergara and a plethora of other celebrities throughout her career.

As a longtime stylist, Matos knows that finding summer clothes for women over 50 can be a challenge, and she's well-versed on the importance of finding breathable fabrics for hot flashes.

Stocking your closet with the best cooling clothes for menopause is important all year long, but it becomes even more critical for mature women when a heatwave rolls in. With that in mind, we asked Matos to explain why certain fabrics are best for cooling, and which ones are ideal for menopause. We also got her picks for the top three flattering silhouettes for women over 50 and the best cooling summer staples.

The Stylist's Secret: Why Cotton Is the Ultimate Cooling Fabric

When it comes to cooling fabrics, Matos says cotton is "almost impossible to beat" as the temperature climbs.

"It breathes beautifully, absorbs moisture and doesn't trap heat the way many synthetic fabrics do," she tells Parade.

While working with clients, she regularly shares a very sage piece of advice about clothing materials.

"I always recommend looking at the fabric before falling in love with the color or the trend. A crisp cotton poplin dress or an oversized cotton button-down will keep you cooler and usually looks more polished, too," she explains.

As she's matured, Matos has made a conscious decision to wear only natural fabrics, like cotton, when the heat rises.

"They simply feel better against your skin and make a huge difference during a heatwave," she states. "I just came back from Europe during the recent heatwave, and it reminded me why I always reach for natural fibers."

The Science of Cooling: How Cotton Beats Menopause and Hot Flashes

Hot flashes are one of the more challenging aspects of menopause, especially during a heatwave. For this reason, Matos says the fabric of your clothing becomes even more important in the summer.

"When you're dealing with hot flashes, the last thing you want is clothing that traps heat," the celebrity stylist explains. "Cotton allows air to circulate naturally so your body can regulate its temperature more easily. It absorbs moisture, dries comfortably against your skin and never feels as stifling as synthetic fabrics."

Granted, cotton can't stop a hot flash. However, it can certainly make you feel a bit more comfortable while you ride the wave.

"The same goes for sleep. If you're dealing with night sweats, breathable cotton pajamas can make a noticeable difference," Matos shares. "I love Printfresh for their eco-friendly cotton and cotton silk pajamas. They're incredibly comfortable, and the colorful prints make bedtime feel a little more joyful."

Natural vs. Synthetic: Why You Should Ditch Polyester This Summer

Every fabric has its own set of benefits, but they're not all built the same. For instance, some are more breathable, while others feature better moisture-wicking properties.

Not sure which ones are best for summer? We asked Matos to compare four common fabrics so you can find the right one to help you navigate each and every heatwave.

FabricsBreathabilityMoisture-wickingStylist Verdict

Tencel/Lyocell

9/10

9/10

"Tencel is incredibly soft, lightweight and excellent at pulling moisture away from the skin. It's one of my favorite fabrics when you want something that feels a little more elevated," Matos says.

Linen

10/10

8/10

"Linen was made for hot weather. It lets your skin breathe, and honestly, I love that it wrinkles a little. It gives every outfit that effortless European feel," she shares.

Cotton

10/10

8/10

"Cotton is still my first recommendation because it simply works. It's breathable, comfortable, easy to care for and looks just as chic in a crisp poplin dress as it does in an oversized button-down," Matos explains.

Polyester

3/10

4/10

"Traditional polyester tends to trap heat, which is exactly what you don't want during the summer or if you're experiencing hot flashes. Performance athletic fabrics are the exception. But for everyday summer dressing, I'd almost always choose a natural fiber instead," she notes.

Chrissy Teigen Savagely Trolls Trump, but Some Fans Are Confused: ‘I Never Pegged You as MAGA’

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:06pm

Chrissy Teigen just trolled Donald Trump in a recent Instagram post. And while her diehard fans totally get it, others were kind of confused.

So what’s causing all the buzz? Over the weekend, the model/cookbook author/mom posted a series of selfies in Washington, D.C. Clad in a simple yet stunning white off-the-shoulder dress, Teigen looked absolutely glam standing in front of the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool.

And while her look certainly grabbed fans' attention, it was her comment that stole the spotlight. Teigen captioned her post, “I dunno I think it’s cool we get to see the bottom of the reflecting pool! No one else let us see the bottom thank u mister trump.”

View this post on Instagram

Her husband, musician John Legend, added, “The reflecting pavement is (fire emoji).”

Not knowing whether Chrissy and John’s words were sarcastic and snarky or candid and controversial, one commenter wrote, “Oh dear…don’t know what to make of this post.” Others added, “Thanks for your totally out of touch with reality comment”, “I never pegged you as a MAGA, how sad,” and “Please tell me this is a joke. I admire that family so much.”

Of course, Teigen was not serious when she thanked “mister trump.” As one fan pointed out, “Americans really don’t understand sarcasm, huh. I thought it was a stereotype, but the comments prove it,” others chimed in with, “If you’ve been following her, u know she’s trolling”, “She’s trolling hard, and that’s why we stan,” and “Let them have it, Chrissy! Love you.”

Some commenters took a more serious tone, writing, “We’ve all seen the ‘bottom’ of everything in the U.S. Hard to get any lower than we are right now” and, “It’s ‘reflecting’ that we’ve hit rock bottom.”

Chrissy Teigen and Donald Trump's Feud

This is far from Teigen’s first time trolling the President. In 2017, Trump blocked the model on X (then Twitter), and in 2019, the pair got downright nasty in a social media feud. Trump called her John Legend’s “filthy mouthed wife,” and Chrissy fired back.

Reportedly, the administration asked Twitter to remove Teigen’s tweet. According to Entertainment Weekly, Anika Collier Navaroli, a senior member of Twitter’s U.S. Safety Policy Team, said, “I do remember hearing that we had received a request from the White House to make sure that we evaluated this tweet, and that they wanted it to come down because it was a derogatory statement directed towards the president.”

Given their long history and social media scandal, it’s pretty safe to say that Chrissy’s recent Instagram post is 100% sarcastic. It looks like fans can go back to trusting Teigen without worrying that she’s now on MAGA’s side.

Christina Applegate Recreates Mom Nancy Priddy’s 1968 Album Cover in Rare Photo

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:05pm

Christina Applegate is looking back at a special moment from her memoir photoshoot, while honoring her mother's legacy in the process.

On Sunday, July 26, the actress shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram (timestamped July 2025) that shows her recreating the pose from her mother Nancy Priddy's 1968 album cover, You've Come This Way Before. In both images, mother and daughter sit on the ground cross-legged in denim while looking back toward the camera in nearly identical poses.

"This was a pic taken for possibly back of book. Hold please while I find the other inspo pic. It’s so cool. Also have you read or listened to YOU WITH THE SAD EYES?" Applegate wrote alongside the image, referring to her memoir, which was released on March 3.

When she couldn't upload the original album cover for comparison, she turned to her followers for help. "Ok can’t make it work. It’s my mom’s album cover called YOUVE COME THIS WAY BEFORE from 1960 something. Google it and send to me hahah. Also check out ASAP ROCKY SONG WHERE HE SAMPLES ONE OF MY MOMS SONGS. also can’t seem to post anything. I am too old!!!!!"

“That would have been an excellent photo for the book’s cover,” one fan wrote in the comments.

“before seeing this comment i thought it resembled your moms album cover!! missed seeing you here so much,” another said.

A third wrote, “just looked up the album cover! the resemblance is uncanny, both so beautiful 🥹🫶🏻”

Who is Nancy Priddy?

Priddy enjoyed a successful career of her own before Applegate became a star. The singer-songwriter released You've Come This Way Before in 1968 and later appeared in TV series including The Waltons and Happy Days.

Applegate also pointed fans toward another connection to her mom's music: A$AP Rocky sampled Priddy's song "Ebony Glass" on "The END," which features will.i.am and Jessica Pratt.

Applegate's recent health update

The nostalgic update comes just a few months after Applegate reassured fans following reports about a hospitalization at the end of March. "Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health Issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better everyday," she wrote on Instagram in April, seemingly referring to her battle with multiple sclerosis. "I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough."

Home has always been more than just the place where I drop my keys at the end of the day. I like to set it up so it feels like a little sanctuary, somewhere that helps me exhale the minute I walk through the door. I'm not someone who decorates around strict themes, but I do notice that certain aesthetics instantly put me in a more relaxed state of mind. It's less about recreating a perfectly styled room and more about creating a feeling. Sometimes, if a space is done just right, I can almost convince myself I've escaped somewhere else for a little while.

Lately, that imaginary getaway has been the British countryside — like The Holiday if it took place in the summer instead of winter. Think cozy cottages and soft florals. It's an easy, lived-in look that feels timeless.

A great comforter set is just the beginning. To style it perfectly, give it a good shake so it drapes naturally instead of looking flat. Fold the top edge down slightly to show off the sheets beneath, then prop the matching shams upright against your headboard for a polished backdrop.

Beyond that, add one or two decorative pillows in front for a layered, hotel-inspired look, but don't overdo it. Seriously, no more than two. Finally, smooth out any wrinkles and let the comforter spill evenly over both sides of the bed. It's an easy formula that makes the entire room feel more refined and inviting.

3 Years Ago Today, Travis Kelce's 'New Heights' Podcast Sparked His Love Story With Taylor Swift

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 4:02pm

Three years ago today, Travis Kelce aired the New Heights podcast episode that ultimately led to his romance with now-wife Taylor Swift.

In the now-famous clip, Travis told his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce, about attending Swift's Eras Tour show in Kansas City, Kansas in July 2023. At the time, Swift was coming off her breakup with Joe Alwyn and a brief romance with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.

During the episode, Travis revealed that he had tried to give Swift a custom friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but wasn't able to because she doesn't meet fans before or after her shows in order to protect her voice.

"I was a little butt hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her," Travis said.

Jason immediately asked his younger brother to explain.

"If you're up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets handed out. I received a bunch of them, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it," Travis said.

Jason then asked whether he meant No. 87—his Kansas City Chiefs jersey number—or his actual phone number.

"You know which one," Travis replied with a grin.

Swift reflected on the viral moment during her first appearance on New Heights in August 2025.

"It was such a wild, romantic gesture," she said. "This kind of felt more like I was in an '80s John Hughes movie, and he was just, like, standing outside of my window with a boombox, just being like, 'I want to date you.'"

Just weeks after the podcast episode aired, Swift and Kelce took their relationship public when she attended her first Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24, 2023, cheering him on against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium.

The couple tied the knot on July 3 in front of more than 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Wedding guests included Swift’s high school best friendAbigail Anderson, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim; Zoe Kravitz; Ed Sheeran; Jack Antonoff, Mariska Hargitay; Cara Delevingne; Suki Waterhouse; Emma Stone; Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper; and Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco.

'90s Alternative Rock Legend Makes Announcement on 30th Anniversary Tour

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:48pm

Thirty years after introducing the world to "Mother Mother," Tracy Bonham is bringing the celebration back to where it all began.

The alternative rock singer-songwriter has announced a Nov. 13 hometown performance at Sonia in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as part of her ongoing 30th anniversary tour celebrating her breakout 1996 debut album, The Burdens of Being Upright. The newly announced date comes one day before a scheduled performance at Drom in New York City.

Bonham shared the news directly with fans.

"Boston! ❤️ Celebrating Burdens for reals at Sonia in Cambridge Fri Nov. 13!" she wrote, adding that she loved reconnecting with fans during her recent residency at The Burren and was excited to "spice things up" with the upcoming Sonia show.

"Sonia used to be T.T. the Bear's," Bonham said in a video uploaded to Instagram. "It's in Cambridge and it used to be the Old Haunt. We all played there. And so, I can't wait to play on that stage again and I can't wait to play Burdens of Being Upright the entire album with my OG band."

The anniversary tour marks a major milestone in Bonham's career.

Released in 1996, The Burdens of Being Upright introduced listeners to Bonham's blend of alternative rock, post-grunge, and emotionally charged songwriting. Powered by the breakout single "Mother Mother," the album became one of the defining alternative releases of the decade, with the song earning heavy airplay on modern rock radio and MTV thanks to its raw intensity and unforgettable vocal performance.

The celebration extends beyond the live shows.

Bonham is also re-recording The Burdens of Being Upright, with the updated version expected to arrive in fall 2026. The new recording will give fans a fresh perspective on the album that launched her career while honoring the songs that first connected her with audiences three decades ago.

"The Burdens album was a rebellious encounter with expectations from others, claiming my own identity, and the confusion and rage as a young woman on my own," Tracy explained in a statement. "Thirty years later, the songs are as impactful but are landing differently for me. For the past 30 years, I've been playing small ever since the 'Angry Young Woman' moniker that made me recoil. I hated being labeled, but still, I am a Gen X'er in menopause who is still trying to figure it all out, I am a single mother of a teenage boy in a cruel world (no, everything's not fine), and I have let the narrative of not having a voice lead me down dark paths. These songs are ultimately transforming who I am now."

Since emerging in the mid-1990s, Bonham has built a career that stretches well beyond her breakthrough album. In addition to releasing multiple studio records, she has explored classical music, acting, and composing while remaining a respected figure in alternative rock. Yet "Mother Mother" has continued to find new audiences, enjoying renewed popularity through streaming platforms and social media years after its original release.

"When Burdens came out, I was 27 or 28," Bonham told Creative Reverberations. "Those songs were trying to figure out young Tracy, and now I'm 30 years older and still trying to figure out young Tracy. So the thread is still there, but I think now comes with it some wisdom. Part of my mission is to alchemize whatever that anger was, whatever that deep sadness was, whatever the loss was that I was dealing with into something beautiful for the world."

With another hometown performance now on the schedule, Bonham's anniversary celebration continues to grow. Thirty years after The Burdens of Being Upright introduced her distinctive voice to the world, the beloved alternative rock artist is once again inviting fans to celebrate the album, and the song, that started it all.

The 2004 Historical Epic Christopher Nolan Almost Directed Became a Major Influence on 'The Odyssey'

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:46pm

The Odysseyhas been in theaters for less than two weeks and is already breaking records. The story of Greek Gods and Trojan horses has been something director Christopher Nolan has been thinking about for a long time.

Nolan confirmed to Empire Magazinelast year that Warner Bros. initially asked him to direct 2004 historical epic Troy. Following the success of 200's Memento and 2002's Insomnia, he was hired by the studio to helm the Brad Pitt movie. The studio wanted to keep the director in the studio space, so they offered him Troy.

“Wolfgang [Petersen] had developed it, and so when the studio decided not to proceed with his superhero movie [‘Batman Vs Superman’], he wanted it back,” Nolan explained in 2025. Ironically, Nolan told the outlet that they offered him Batman Begins as a “consolation prize,” after Troy fell apart.

Wolfgang Petersen and Diane Kruger, Brad Pitt, Australian Rose Byrne and Eric Bana arrive at the European premiere of their movie Troy at the Kono Cinestar cinema in Berlin on 09 May 2004.

Ever since he was almost given the chance to bring the ancient Greek story to life, he has had certain images embedded into his mind. "At the end of the day, it was a world that I was very interested to explore. So it’s been at the back of my mind for a very long time. Certain images, particularly. How I wanted to handle the Trojan horse, things like that," the Inception director said, per World of Reel.

The Odyssey, which is projected to make a billion, sees Nolan fulfill his dream of bringing the Trojan war to life on the big screen. The film follows Matt Damon's Odysseus as he tries to find his way home from the war.

Nolan explained his ambitions with making the new blockbuster. "And what I saw is that all of this great mythological cinematic work that I had grown up with—Ray Harryhausen movies and other things—I’d never seen that done with the sort of weight and credibility that an A-budget and a big Hollywood, IMAX production could do."

Despite mixed reviews, the film, which also starred Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger, earned nearly $500 million worldwide. Nolan went on to make Batman Begins instead, which earned $375.4 million and transformed superhero movies forever.

Aubrey Plaza Shows Off Bare Baby Bump Photo Ahead of Welcoming Her First Child

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:42pm

Aubrey Plaza is baby bumpin'!

The mother-to-be, 42, took to her Instagram Stories over the weekend to give fans a rare glimpse at her pregnancy journey.

The Parks and Recreation alum, who is expecting her first child with boyfriendChristopher Abbott, snapped a mirror selfie on Saturday, lifting her black tank top to reveal her growing baby bump.

Though it's unclear when The White Lotus star is due, Plaza unbuttoned her black jeans in the photo to make way for her growing stomach as she moves further along in her pregnancy.

Plaza first debuted her baby bump while walking her dog in New York City back in April, a little over a year after her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died by suicide in January 2025.

Later that month, the actress spoke about stepping into this new chapter and becoming a mom during an April 20 episode of the SmartLess podcast.

"Well, there's a baby inside of me," Plaza quipped before sharing how she was getting on. "Today was a big day. I went to the doctor's today."

Luckily, she had her pups by her side, telling hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes that she also had an appointment with the vet.

"Both of us — my dog's getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I'm not kidding. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach," the Dirty Grandpa star continued. "And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there."

When it comes to her feelings on motherhood, Plaza said she was excited to find out what all the fuss is about.

"I've always wanted to see what that's all about," Plaza added. "It just seems so interesting, that whole thing."

"It's just too much. There's too much going on," the actor, who starred alongside Plaza in several projects, including 2020's Black Bear and the two-person stage play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023, before the pair got together, quipped.

"This is the real role of life. The role of dad," Today cohost Carson Daly chimed in, with Jenna Bush Hager adding, "We all love Aubrey here and we're so happy for the both of you."

"Yes, that's very nice. Thank you very much. It's very exciting," Abbott replied.

More Taco Bell news

The Mexican Pizza deal is the chain's latest attempt to win customers back after a recent parasite scare.

According to a report published by The New York Times the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked a recent outbreak of cyclosporiasis—a parasitic illness that can cause severe diarrhea—to iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms that was supplied to Taco Bell.

On July 17, the fast-food chain addressed the situation on Instagram, sharing a notes app apology and confirming it had removed the affected produce.

“We want you to hear it from us,” the apology read. “We take your health and safety very seriously and have removed all affected Taylor Farms lettuce from Taco Bell stores. So go ahead and enjoy your Taco Bell today.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later announced that the Taylor Farms lettuce had falsely tested positive for Cyclospora. Even so, the company said it is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market.

On Friday, July 24, Taco Bell thanked fans who stood by them amid the controversy by offering $1 lettuce-free enchiritos all day.

1981 No. 1 Hit, Which Sparked a Years-Long Search for Its Mystery Woman, Became a Generational Anthem

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:31pm

On July 26, 1981, Rick Springfield’s iconic power anthem, “Jessie’s Girl,” was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Jumping two spots to the peak position, the song remained there for two weeks.

Perhaps the more interesting tidbit of the history of "Jessie's Girl," however, is the fact that the song is a true story.

Springfield revealed as much in an interview with Songfacts, sharing that he never knew the name of the “hot girl” in his stained-glass window class. But he did know her boyfriend—a guy named Gary—and he knew that the mystery woman had such a hold over him that he had to take all that sexual angst and channel it into a smash-hit song.

“I met this guy and his girlfriend,” Springfield explained. “I was completely turned on to his girlfriend, but she was just not interested. So I had a lot of sexual angst, and I went home and wrote a song about it.”

He added, “The only thing I remember is his name was Gary, so I changed the name [in the song], because 'Gary' didn't sing very well. But the whole thing is absolutely what I was feeling. He was getting it, and I wasn't, and it was really tearing me up.”

Released in February 1981, the song appeared on Springfield’s fifth studio album, Working Class Dog, released by RCA Records. The single debuted on the all-genre chart in March before climbing steadily to the top. The song’s success ultimately sparked an unlikely decades-long search for the woman who inspired it. Oprah Winfrey even got involved.

“Sexual angst is an amazing motivator to write a song," Springfield said in the same interview. "Actually, Oprah's people tried to find her, and they got as far back as finding the stained glass guy. … They found him, and he had died two years earlier, and they'd thrown all his papers out a year after that. So we missed finding out who she was by a year.”

1980s Rocker, 76, Nails His Career-Defining Hit in a New Performance: ‘Is He Aging Backwards?’

Perhaps the woman the song was written about knows who she is, but according to Springfield, it’s more likely that she doesn’t since he’s never been approached by anyone claiming to be her.

“Nobody ever came up to me and professed to be her, and I guess that’s kind of a shame,” Springfield told Louder in 2023. “I don’t know if she’s aware that ‘Jessie’s Girl’ is about her. In later years, she may have read that Gary was part of the song’s background, seen the reference to stained glass and put two and two together, but it’s more than likely that she doesn’t know.”

He added, “Hey, I got a pretty good song out of it so I’m OK with the deal.”

ABC Photo Archives / Getty Images

A native Aussie who spent part of his childhood in England, Springfield started his career in music in the ’70s. Still, his breakthrough didn’t come until 1981 with “Jessie’s Girl,” Working Class Dog, and his stint on General Hospital turning the singer into a national heartthrob.

"Jessie’s Girl" became one of the biggest hits of the decade, with publications and best-of lists consistently ranking the generational anthem one of the most enduring and best-loved songs from the '80s.

But great music transcends time, and "Jessie's Girl" is one of those rare tracks, popping up all over the place, including in modern films like 13 Going On 30 and Boogie Nights.

Whoever Jessie's or Gary's girl is, she deserves an honorary perch in the canon of greatest classic rock hits.

Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Gut When You Eat Greek Yogurt Every Day

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:25pm

Our collective obsession with protein led people to buy cottage cheese in droves. But they'd been doing the same with Greek yogurt for more than a decade, because "gut health" got buzzy in the late aughts and never really went out of style.

That's not a bad thing. Gut health can have a ripple effect on our overall health and involves more than just your stomach. Cleveland Clinic notes that it also includes the esophagus, small intestine and large intestine—and the microorganisms in your large and small intestines that help your body use nutrients as fuel. Greek yogurt is thought to support gut and overall health.

"Greek yogurt is a type of yogurt with a thicker, creamier consistency that has been strained to remove much of its liquid whey during the production process," says Paloma Vega, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian in Georgia. "Because of this straining process, Greek yogurt is typically higher in protein, lower in carbohydrates and contains slightly less calcium than regular yogurt, although both can be nutritious choices depending on individual nutrition needs."

Taste also comes into play when choosing foods—something can have a stellar nutrition label, but if you don't like it, you're not going to eat it regularly.

"Taste-wise, Greek yogurt is tangier and has what some people would describe as a tart bite to it, whereas regular yogurt has a more neutral taste," notes Eleana Kaidanian, RD, CDN, CPT-WFS, a registered dietitian and the owner of Long Island Nutritionist. "Think of regular yogurt as a diluted version of Greek yogurt."

But what happens to your gut if you eat Greek yogurt every day because you love it so much? Registered dietitians share the undiluted truth on Greek yogurt and gut health.

🩺SIGN UP for tips to stay healthy & fit with the top moves, clean eats, health trends & more delivered right to your inbox twice a week💊

Is It OK To Eat Greek Yogurt Every Day for Gut Health?

For most people, registered dietitians say, it's more than OK to eat Greek yogurt every day (or regularly) for gut health. In fact, regular consumption of Greek yogurt can help improve gut health.

Kaidanian notes that yogurt is one of the few foods that provide us with probiotics, living bacteria that support gut health by balancing the microflora. In Greek yogurt, she says you'll often find L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, Bifidobacteria and L. acidophilus.

"On the most basic level, if you are eating yogurt daily, you are exposing your gut to beneficial bacteria," she says. "The good bacteria compete with the harmful bacteria for space and nutrients to thrive on. If you have more of the good microbes, they will multiply, acting as a natural defense against pathogens."

Long-term, research suggests that these probiotics improve immune health. Yes, you'll need to eat Greek yogurt regularly for several months and years to improve gut health and its cascading effects on your whole body. You'll also want to do some digging to make sure your Greek yogurt of choice contains the cultures your digestive tract needs.

"If you're interested in the gut health benefits, check the label for 'Live & Active Cultures,'" Vega says. "While most Greek yogurts contain beneficial bacteria, not every product has the same probiotic strains or amounts after processing."

Related: Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Liver When You Eat Bananas

Gut Health Benefits Beyond Probiotics

Keep reading the label: Greek yogurt contains additional gut-supporting components beyond probiotics. Plain Greek yogurt is high in protein (about 16 grams per small single-serving container, but it varies) and low carbs (about 6 grams per container).

"The combination of protein and relatively low carbohydrate content helps slow digestion and may reduce large spikes in blood sugar after meals, especially when compared with sugary breakfast foods or snacks," Vega says. "Pairing Greek yogurt with fiber-rich foods like berries or nuts can provide an even more balanced meal."

You may notice lower post-meal blood sugar right away, though managing A1C is a lifelong journey (that regular Greek yogurt eating can help with). Side note: Vega says this blood sugar perk makes Greek yogurt a great option for many people with diabetes or prediabetes. But what does blood sugar have to do with gut health? A good bit, actually.

"This thick and creamy high-protein food is very filling, it can lead to reduced cravings,…and decreased snacking if eaten regularly," says Julia Zumpano, RD, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic.

You may have decreased appetite and cravings after even one serving of Greek yogurt, but you'll need to keep eating it for months to notice significant weight loss (if needed) and to manage it.

Greek yogurt may also be more gut-friendly for some people who can't tolerate milk or regular yogurt well.

"Greek yogurt also contains less lactose than regular yogurt, which may make it easier to tolerate for some individuals with lactose sensitivity," Vega notes.

Are There Downsides to Greek Yogurt for Gut Health?

Greek yogurt is generally beneficial for gut health, but it's not for everyone, nor is it a cure-all for digestive issues.

"Although Greek yogurt contains less lactose than regular yogurt, it still contains some lactose, so people with lactose intolerance may experience digestive discomfort," Vega says. "Others may have a milk allergy or simply choose to avoid dairy for personal or cultural reasons."

She notes that dairy-free yogurts are also available, but their nutritional profiles can differ. Speaking of nutrition, not all Greek yogurts are created equal—and we're not just talking about the fact that some don't contain "live and active cultures."

"If Greek yogurt is not plain, it often contains a large amount of added sugar to hide its tangy taste," Zumpano says. "There are negative health outcomes to consuming large amounts of added sugar daily over time, including increased risk of weight gain, diabetes and metabolic syndrome."

Added sugars can also negatively affect your gut bacteria, research shows. Kaidanian suggests opting for plain Greek yogurt. Too boring? Hear her out.

"Plain Greek yogurt lets you control how much sweetness you add," Kaidanian notes. "Fresh fruit, cinnamon or a drizzle of honey can provide flavor without relying on large amounts of added sugar."

Mixing in fresh fruit with Greek yogurt can also help you avoid another pitfall of Greek yogurt: Its lack of fiber. When your diet lacks fiber (which most American diets do), food may not "move" through your digestive system as well, causing issues like bloating and constipation.

"Adding fiber in the form of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds or whole grains can also help you feel fuller longer than compared to having the yogurt by itself," Kaidanian reports.

1964 Rock Song, Written by a 19-Year-Old, Remains a Classic 62 Years Later

Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:22pm

Sixty-two years ago, a song written by a 19-year-old became one of the U.K's biggest hits and helped invent an entirely new sound in rock music.

The Kinks formed in 1963 as a rhythm-and-blues band, with brothers Ray and DaveDavies getting their start in Muswell Hill, in northern London. It was their third single, "You Really Got Me," built around a power chord riff, that gave the band its big break.

“It was the first heavy guitar riff rock record,” Dave has said, though he's quick to add that he isn't fond of the term "heavy metal.”

Still, the raw aggression of "You Really Got Me" helped lay the groundwork for both metal and punk, even if that wasn’t the band's original intention.

The song was actually one of the first five songs Ray ever wrote. At just 19, he envisioned it as a blues number, and that's more or less how it stayed until the band recorded it as their third single for Pye Records.

Producer Shel Talmy's original mix buried the guitars under heavy reverb, a sound the band wasn't happy with. When the record company refused to fund another session, the group paid for it themselves to get the song the way they wanted.

To achieve the distorted tone that would go on to inspire a generation of garage bands, Dave took a razor blade to the speaker cone of his Elpico "Little Green" AC55 amp and ran the sound through a Vox AC-30.

However, in a 2014 radio interview, Ray claimed he'd been the one to create the sound. "We cranked up the amplifier and I stuck a knitting needle in it," he recalled.

Dave pushed back against the claim in a Facebook post, insisting, "I alone created this sound."

"I am just flabbergasted and shocked at the depth of his selfish desire to take credit for everything,” he wrote. “I never once claimed songwriting royalties on ‘You Really Got Me,’ yet this song would not have happened without my guitar sound."

Regardless of how the sound came together, the song became a phenomenon. Even Dave was surprised by how big it became.

"When You Really Got Me came out, it was so different," he told The Guardian. "It seemed as if nobody liked it – until it became an international hit. I remember hearing it on the radio for the first time in my mate's Humber Super Snipe. I was transfixed. I thought it was someone else. I said: "Is that us? That's us!"

The single was released on August 4, 1964, and quickly found success. It topped the U.K. charts the following month and landed No. 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

"You Really Got Me" has gone on to be covered by a long list of artists spanning multiple genres, including Van Halen, Iggy Pop, Sly & the Family Stone, Mott the Hoople, Lords of the New Church, David Essex, Oingo Boingo, Robert Palmer and Toots and the Maytals.

Van Halen's version became the most famous, though Dave wasn't a fan.

When he first heard the version, he wondered, “Why would they copy our recording?” During an appearance on the “Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan” podcast, he called it “very flashy” and said it leaned “almost more R&B” than the original.

Ray, meanwhile, has had kinder things to say about the cover. “It was a big hit for them and put them on a career of excess and sent them on the road,” the frontman noted in 2014. “So I enjoyed that one."

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

One of the best things you can do for your skin, especially the delicate skin on your face, is regularly moisturize. But with so many products on the market, finding the best face moisturizers can seem like a daunting task. That's why Parade consulted six dermatologists to get their expert opinions. They share 12 of their tried-and-tested favorite products that you can use for better daily hydration.

As Dr. Erin Carty, a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Philadelphia, explains, moisturizers are the key to help "repair the skin barrier to protect against irritants" for "smoother, softer and firmer-appearing skin."

Of course, finding the right one is only half the task. As Dr. Gabriela Soza, a board-certified dermatologist says, "One exceptional formula used consistently" is better than a complicated routine that you quickly abandon.

But how do you find that "exceptional" formula? And since it's important to be consistent for many months, you may not want to splurge on a moisturizer that's hundreds of dollars and you can't afford to buy again.

So, first we're highlighting the dermatologist-favorite drugstore moisturizer, chosen by three doctors we interviewed—it's one that's great for your skin and wallet. And if you like to have more choices, we included other top dermatologist picks that cover a range of skin types, so whether you have dry skin, oily skin or a combination, there's something available for everyone.

Dr. Soza adds, "When my patients ask what to recommend to a friend or family member who isn't ready to invest in a medical-grade routine, I always land here."

Dr. Carty notes that there are different formulations of the Hydro Boost product available for different skin types. "This water gel is lightest for oily skin types, the water cream is hydrating for dry skin and the gel cream falls in the middle."

Top Moisturizers, Picked by DermatologistsHow Do Moisturizers Help Improve Skin Texture?

"When skin is dehydrated, it can appear rough, flaky and uneven," says Dr. Dendy Engelman, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. She explains that's why using a moisturizer is so important.

"By replenishing hydration and supporting the barrier with ingredients like ceramides, humectants and fatty acids, moisturizers help smooth the skin's surface, making it feel softer and look more refined," she adds.

What’s the Difference Between a Cream, Gel and Lotion Moisturizer?

When you're trying to choose a moisturizer, you may notice that many come in lotion, cream or gel formulas. "The main difference comes down to how much water versus oil each one contains, and that ratio changes how the product feels and how well it holds moisture in your skin," says Dr. Aderonke Obayomi, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor at Mount Sinai.

She says that lotions have a higher water content, "so they are the lightest and absorb the fastest." And creams "are thicker and contain more oil, which makes them more emollient and better at sealing moisture in." She adds that gels are usually oil-free so they can "absorb quickly without any greasy residue."

How To Choose the Best Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

According to Dr. Obayomi, you have to match your moisturizer texture to your skin type. She recommends creams for those with dry skin and gels for those with oily or acne-prone skin, adding, "Combination skin can go either way, and some people use a lighter formula over the oily areas and something richer where they get dry."

She also wants you to factor in your environment. "The same skin can need a heavier cream in dry winter air and a lighter gel in humid summer months," she says.

Dr. Obayomi adds, "One thing worth knowing for deeper skin tones, when skin dries out it can take on a gray or ashy cast, and a richer cream usually prevents that better than a thin lotion does."

What Ingredients Are Important To Have in a Face Moisturizer?

Dr. Carty says you want to focus on humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin which help "attract water to hydrate skin" and emollients like fatty acids, lipids and ceramides that "smooth and repair the skin barrier."

And Dr. Engelman adds that she also likes seeing "antioxidants like niacinamide or vitamin C" that can help improve the skin's "tone and texture over time."

What Moisturizer Ingredients Do Dermatologists Avoid?

"Fragrance is the first thing I look at on an ingredient label," says Dr. Soza. "It's one of the leading causes of contact dermatitis and can be hidden under terms like 'parfum,' 'natural fragrance' or even botanical names."

She adds that "denatured alcohol listed high in the formulation is drying and barrier-disrupting, [which is] especially problematic for mature or sensitive skin."

And for those who struggle with acne, she advises skipping products with "coconut oil, cocoa butter, lanolin and isopropyl myristate" because they're "common pore-cloggers."

How Often Should You Moisturize Your Face?

"I recommend moisturizing twice daily, morning and night," says Dr. Engelman.

She explains that moisturizing in the morning preps your skin and helps your sunscreen adhere better, while "at night, the skin is in active repair mode, making it the ideal time to replenish the barrier."

(She adds that those with very dry skin can also reapply midday.)

Should you use different moisturizers morning and night?

"I do think it's worth using different formulas for day and night," says Dr. Engelman. She recommends a lightweight moisturizer under your sunscreen in the morning. "Bonus points if it contains antioxidants like niacinamide to help defend against environmental damage throughout the day," she adds.

For night, she likes a richer cream "with ceramides or peptides ... to restore and strengthen the [skin] barrier overnight."

4 of the Biggest Moisturizer Mistakes People Make

Here's what dermatologists say to avoid.

1. Taking a 'one size fits all' approach

"Just because a certain moisturizer worked for a friend or celebrity doesn’t mean that it’s the best fit for you," says Dr. Carty. Instead, you need to consider your specific skin type when picking a product.

2. Skipping moisturizer if you have oily skin

"Oily skin still needs hydration. When you deprive it of moisture, the skin often overproduces oil to compensate, which can actually make breakouts worse," says Dr. Engelman.

3. Not adjusting for seasons

"I also see people using the same heavy moisturizer year-round without adjusting for seasonal changes," says Dr. Engelman. "What your skin needs in January is very
different from what it needs in June."

4. Applying moisturizer to dry skin

Dr. Soza says if you put your moisturizer on slightly damp skin versus dry skin, "it dramatically improves absorption, particularly for hyaluronic acid-based formulas."
