Made of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), a durable and flexible foam rubber, these flip flops were designed to cushion the feet with a plush footbed that cradles the arches. The deep heel cup takes pressure off the heel area, which adds extra comfort when walking. The sandals weigh just one-twentieth of a pound — an incredible feat for a shoe that offers such ample arch support. Several shoppers were so impressed by the design that they ordered multiple colors.

Available in women's sizes 6 through 10-10.5, shoppers said these flip flops fit true to size, but it's recommended to size up if you have a wide foot or prefer a loose fit. Be sure to check the brand's size chart linked on the product page to ensure a proper fit.

Shoppers with high arches, as well as those with flat feet, all raved about how "comfortable" these sandals felt. Several reviewers with plantar fasciitis noted that the "great arch support" allowed them to walk long distances in these flip flops without pain.

These "lightweight but supportive" flip flops were described as "perfect for the beach," and shoppers agreed that they "feel much more supportive than typical beach thongs." One reviewer said the bottoms have "really good grip," which makes these flip flops ideal for slippery surfaces like pool decks.

'I’m a Psychologist, and Here Are 7 Signs Your ‘Gentle Parenting’ Is Actually People-Pleasing'

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 7:23pm

I’m a child psychologist who works with cycle-breaking parents, and I see this all the time: what looks like gentle parenting is often people-pleasing in disguise.

We’ve all seen it, and many of us have been there. A parent who is endlessly negotiating a simple boundary. A toddler, who is running barefoot through Target while the parent shrugs apologetically. The pleading, bargaining and second-guessing over things that should be straightforward, like putting on shoes or throwing out trash. It’s often labeled “gentle parenting.” But is it?

Many parents have come to equate their child’s distress with failure. If my child is upset, I must be doing something wrong. If they’re crying, melting down or angry at me, I’ve somehow damaged the relationship. Whether it’s fear of social judgment or the internal discomfort of hearing your child cry like their heart just broke, the instinct becomes: fix it fast.

And the fastest way to fix it is to remove the limit.

But that’s not gentle parenting. That’s a parent trying to regulate their own discomfort by keeping their child happy.

We’ve become so focused on not “making” our children feel bad that we’ve lost sight of what our role actually is. We are not responsible for making our children feel a certain way. We are responsible for helping them handle whatever they do feel.

So how do you tell the difference? When does gentle parenting become people-pleasing? And what actually helps kids thrive? I break it down below.

What Is Gentle Parenting?

Vera Livchak/Getty Images

Gentle parenting is about taking a child’s emotions seriously while still holding clear limits.

It means being responsive rather than reactive. It means helping kids understand what they feel and guiding them through it, instead of shutting it down or ignoring it. It also means having expectations. Kids still need to listen, participate and function in the world around them.

Gentle parenting was always meant to be neurodevelopmentally informed, to understand the developing brain and ensure that our expectations of our child are in line with what they’re developmentally capable of. This parenting style was always about teaching kids skills, helping them connect language to their internal experience, and learn to manage their emotional states.

Somewhere along the way, gentle parenting started to get translated as never upsetting your child. Endless explaining. Avoiding “no.” Keeping things calm at all costs.

That sounds a lot more like people-pleasing than any form of parenting

7 Signs Your ‘Gentle Parenting’ Is Actually People-Pleasing, According to a Psychologist1. You can’t tolerate your child’s distress

One of the clearest signs that “gentle parenting” has slipped into people-pleasing is how quickly you move to stop your child’s distress.

Your child is crying, frustrated or angry. An internal voice kicks in: “Soothe them. Fast. This is an emergency.” It’s an emergency for them, and it’s an emergency for you.

Sometimes that looks like giving in. Sometimes it looks like distracting, negotiating or over-explaining. But underneath it is the same belief: this feeling shouldn’t be happening.

Many parents have internalized the idea that if their child is upset, they’ve done something wrong. That distress means disconnection. That meltdowns are a sign of bad parenting.

But here’s the truth: Distress is part of development.

Frustration is how children build tolerance. Disappointment is how they learn flexibility. Anger is how they begin to understand their own limits and yours.

When we rush to eliminate those feelings, we’re not protecting our children, we’re protecting ourselves from the discomfort of witnessing them.

Gentle parenting doesn’t mean keeping your child calm at all costs. It means staying calm enough to guide them through what they’re feeling, without needing to make it disappear.

Distress isn’t dangerous.

2. You say yes when you mean no

This is one of the most common places where people-pleasing shows up.

You set a limit, like no more screen time, no dessert before dinner, or it’s time to leave the park. The normal limits that adults set. Your child pushes back. They whine, argue and melt down. Your chest tightens. They get louder. Somewhere, deep inside, you start to panic and question yourself.

Maybe it’s the thought, "This isn’t worth it" or "they’re mad at me, this is bad." Or maybe even "I’m a bad parent."

So you change your answer. You know it’s not the right decision, but you also know it brings immediate relief.

In the moment, it works. The crying stops. Your internal tension drops. Everything feels easier.

But your child is learning just as quickly. They’re learning to ignore boundaries. They’re learning you’re not so sure of yourself. And they’re learning that conflict doesn’t get handled.

Gentle parenting isn’t about avoiding conflict. It’s about teaching kids to handle conflict well.

3. You feel responsible for your child’s feelings

The minute we’re in “But I don’t want my kid to feel that way” territory is the minute I know we’re getting dangerously close to people-pleasing.

It’s impossible for one human to make another human feel a specific way. We can set the stage for a feeling, but how it lands depends on development, the kind of day they’ve had and their own internal world.

This shows up in parenting all the time. Your child is having a rough day, so you make her favorite dinner, only to hear that it’s “gross” and that you “NEVER make anything she likes.”

Your kids are going to feel all sorts of ways. And the minute you take on the job of fixing their emotional state, you’re deciding that their feelings are your responsibility.

That doesn’t mean you can’t offer comfort, encouragement or try to lift their mood. Of course you can. But how it lands isn’t fully up to you.

Your job is to help them understand what they’re feeling and learn how to handle it. To notice the difference between frustrated and angry. To sit with disappointment. To move through envy and learn from it.

When you move the goalpost from “responsible for my kid’s feelings” to “teaching my kids how to handle feelings,” you’re no longer people-pleasing, you’re helping.

When you shift from “I have to make my child feel better” to “I can help my child handle feeling bad,” everything changes. Healthy psyches can tolerate a wide range of emotions.

Your child’s feelings are real. They’re just not yours to manage.

4. You over-explain basic boundaries

There’s been a huge rise in “gentle parenting scripts,” and they can be incredibly helpful. They give parents language for moments that are hard to think through in real time. But scripts are meant to guide you, not replace you. They’re templates.

If you find yourself turning a simple boundary into a long explanation or trying to get your child to agree with you, something has shifted.

Are you setting a limit? Are you teaching a skill? Or are you looking for buy-in?

This shows up when bedtime turns into a full discussion, or when “We’re leaving the park” becomes a negotiation. The hope is that if you explain it well enough, your child won’t be upset.

But when kids are overwhelmed, frustrated or dysregulated, their brains aren’t in a place to process long explanations. If gentle parenting is supposed to be neurodevelopmentally informed, then we must respect that. A stressed brain doesn’t absorb long speeches.

And the more you explain, the less clear the boundary becomes. A short, calm limit is more regulating than a long explanation.

When everything is negotiable, nothing feels secure.

5. You avoid separation because you’re afraid of damaging attachment

A lot of parents are walking around with a fear: What if I mess this up so badly that my child grows up and wants nothing to do with me? What if my child feels alone, the way I did? What if I’m not good at providing attachment?

So they avoid separation at all costs.

They insert themselves into moments where they don’t belong. They treat distress around separation like an emergency. A child’s mild fussing at kindergarten drop-off or an 11-year-old’s hesitation to get out of the car for an overnight school trip feels insurmountable. They step into kid-only spaces, like negotiating with a teacher over grades, trying to fix things so their child feels supported.

It’s all in the name of attachment.

But attachment just isn’t that fragile. It doesn’t fall apart the moment a child has to handle something hard on their own. It’s a survival system. It’s built to withstand frustration, disappointment and even conflict.

When we treat distress like something dangerous, kids feel less secure, not more. They don’t need us to remove every challenge. They need us to stay steady while they face it.

Attachment is meant to be internalized. It gets absorbed into the psyche during moments of separation and then supports the child until they reconnect with us.

If you’re always there, there’s no space for that process to happen. Attachment needs space to grow.

6. You parent for the audience

It’s bad enough to doubt your own judgment when it comes to parenting. It’s worse when you’re worried about the judgment of strangers.

Parenting has become so public. Instagram Reels and TikToks of unsuspecting parents in public. Online spaces where every decision gets analyzed. And anyone in Target who happens to be in earshot of your child’s meltdown. It’s no wonder parents feel on display.

If you’re a people-pleaser, social judgment is especially hard to tolerate.

If you’re avoiding conflict with your child to please an internalized, shaming voice in your head, that’s not gentle parenting. That’s an inability to sit with your own discomfort. And in that moment, your attention splits. Part of you is with your child. Part of you is in the room, imagining what everyone else is thinking.

So you adjust.

You soften a limit you would have held. You rush to fix the behavior. You choose what will look better, not what will hold better.

Your child feels that immediately. They don’t experience it as thoughtfulness. They experience it as inconsistency. The rules change depending on who’s watching.

Kids don’t need you to manage the room. They need you to stay steady in it.

7. You confuse empathy with agreement

Empathy has become one of the most talked-about parts of gentle parenting, and for good reason. Kids need to feel understood. It’s great to empathize with a child’s distress or frustration.

But somewhere along the way, empathy started to mean agreement.

Your child is upset, and you validate the feeling. That’s good. So it sort of makes sense to then give in to the emotion.

They don’t want to leave the park, so you stay longer. They don’t want to do homework, so it gets pushed off. They say “Yuck!” the first time they experience a new food, so you don’t ask them to taste it. They’re frustrated about a boundary, so you don’t uphold it.

It makes sense. If your child is upset, and you’re empathizing, changing the situation that makes them upset feels like the logical next step. If I can see how much this distresses you, it feels cruel to cause it, right?

But sometimes, important things do cause mild distress. No one looks forward to memorizing multiplication tables or brushing their teeth. Most of us don’t approach broccoli with the same enthusiasm as ice cream. Cleaning up is never unmitigated joy.

However, discomfort isn’t dangerous. And it’s not helpful to teach children that discomfort means we always change our minds.

“I get that you’re upset” and “We’re still leaving” can exist in the same sentence.

Understanding your child doesn’t mean changing the boundary.

Why This Kind of Parenting Backfires

When everything is negotiable, kids don’t feel more secure. They feel less sure of where they stand.

They push more because the boundary doesn’t feel settled. They get more frustrated because no one is really holding the line. And over time, they don’t build the skills they need to handle disappointment, frustration or conflict.

Parents end up exhausted. Kids end up dysregulated. No one feels better.

The Most Important Things To Remember if You’re Gentle Parenting

Gentle parenting is about helping your child move through discomfort with you there.

If you find yourself slipping into people-pleasing, come back to a few simple anchors.

  • Your child’s distress is not an emergency. It can feel urgent, especially if you’re sensitive to emotions or grew up around a lot of dysregulation. But not every feeling needs to be fixed. Some feelings need to be felt.
  • You don’t need your child’s agreement to set a boundary. You can be kind, clear and firm at the same time. That combination is what helps kids feel safe.
  • Your job is to help your child handle whatever they feel. Frustration, disappointment, anger, envy. These are all essential parts of development.
  • You’re not meant to be there all the time. Attachment means you’re in your child’s mind even when you’re not physically present. It’s okay to let kids navigate kid-only spaces. It’s okay to let them try, struggle, and figure things out without you smoothing the path.

The goal isn’t to keep your kids happy all the time. The goal is to raise competent future adults.

Let your child feel it and help them handle it.

Best-Selling Novel Ranked Among Best 'Binge-Worthy Books' Became a Major 2025 Scandal

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 7:21pm

It Ends With Us, the bestselling 2016 novel by Colleen Hoover, became a viral sensation thanks to TikTok’s book vertical, BookTok and deemed "binge-worthy" by book platform Goodreads. The book blends romance with heavier themes of domestic abuse and generational trauma and was adapted into a film in 2025, bringing the story and its themes to a wider audience. The film’s box office success, driven by the book’s devoted fanbase, was overshadowed by a 2025 scandal that rocked the entertainment community, with legal fallout still ongoing today.

Film Release and Early Controversy @cnn

A federal judge tossed out Blake Lively's sexual harassment claims against her "It Ends With Us" director Justin Baldoni, roughly a month before the high-stakes trial was set to begin. The judge threw out 10 of the 13 claims in Lively's lawsuit, leaving only three claims against defendants that don't include Baldoni personally.

It Ends With Us, directed by and starring Justin Baldoni and starring Blake Lively as lead character Lily Bloom alongside Brandon Sklenar, was released in 2025 to mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. As the film gained attention, so did rumored tensions between leads Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The two were notably not photographed together at the film’s premiere, followed by a wave of lawsuits and allegations that continue to surround both parties and the film.

Fans initially speculated that creative differences over how the story’s sensitive themes should be portrayed were at the root of the tension between Lively and Baldoni. Distance at press events, including the film’s premiere, fueled rumors of behind-the-scenes conflict between the two Hollywood figures. Speculation reached a fever pitch around the film's release, particularly on TikTok and other platforms. However, fan theories proved to be only a small part of a much larger situation unfolding behind the scenes.

Lawsuits and Allegations Explained

In late 2024, Lively filed a complaint and later a lawsuit accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior on set, creating a hostile work environment, and orchestrating a retaliatory smear campaign after she raised concerns about his behavior.

In response, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others, alleging defamation, extortion, and a coordinated effort to damage his reputation and take control of the film.

Where the Case Stands in 2026 @people

#BlakeLively posted a statement about her legal case against 'It Ends with Us' director-costar #JustinBaldoni after a judge dismissed the majority of her claims against him. 'I will never stop doing my part in fighting to expose the systems and people who seek to harm,' Lively wrote, adding an evocative dragon emoji. Read more details in our bio link.

The lawsuit was later dismissed by a judge in 2025. As of 2026, a judge has dismissed most of Lively’s claims as well, including sexual harassment and defamation, largely based on legal technicalities. However, her claims of retaliation and breach of contract remain active and are expected to proceed to trial in 2026.

Broader Industry Impact

Beyond the courtroom and the court of public opinion, the allegations have drawn attention to workplace issues on film and television sets and have shined a spotlight on claims about the use of social media and public relations tactics to influence how public figures are perceived. The situation has become one of the most talked-about controversies tied to a major film release in recent years and has raised broader questions about how narratives are shaped both within Hollywood and online.

This Trader Joe's Freezer Find Packs a Classic Cuban Dish Into a Crispy Bite

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 7:05pm

Trader Joe's is really good at turning dishes usually made from scratch into easy freezer finds, and at $5.99, this one might be one of its more interesting takes. Instead of serving a classic Cuban dish the traditional way, it's wrapped up into something handheld, crispy and ready in minutes.

If you've had ropa vieja before, you know it's usually slow-cooked and served over rice, not tucked inside a pastry. That's what makes this feel a little different. It takes those traditional flavors and turns them into something you can eat with your hands—no long cook time required. It also works whether you're putting together a quick dinner or just need something easy to snack on.

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

How Trader Joe's Reimagined Ropa Vieja

Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's Empanadas de Ropa Vieja are inspired by the Cuban dish made with shredded beef cooked in a tomato-based sauce with onions, bell peppers and spices. It's typically rich, savory and meant to be a full meal.

Here, that filling gets packed into a cassava-based crust instead. The texture is a little different from a typical empanada (less flaky, more chewy), but once it crisps up in the oven or air fryer, it works. The outside gets golden and slightly crisp, while the inside stays soft and beefy.

They're also very easy to make. You cook them straight from frozen (about 15 minutes in the oven or closer to 10 in the air fryer), and that's it. There's no need to prep anything.

Another thing to keep in mind: these are labeled as a limited item. That's part of why they tend to vanish from shelves quickly and why shoppers often grab multiple boxes at once to stock up for months.

Related: Aldi Shoppers Say This New Bakery Find Is Impossible to Stop Eating

How to Serve These for a Quick Meal or Snack

These work in a few different ways depending on what you're craving. As a snack or appetizer, they're easy to throw on a plate with a dipping sauce. Chimichurri is a popular option, but people also pair it with things like salsa, garlic sauce or even something creamy to balance the richness.

If you want something more filling, you can turn them into a quick meal with rice and black beans on the side. That combo feels a little closer to how ropa vieja is usually served, just without the long cook time.

They work as a snack, but they're filling enough to pass for a meal. You don't need to commit to cooking, but you still get something warm and satisfying.

Fans Are Already Stocking Up on These

Shoppers seem pretty into these, especially for how easy they are to heat. On Reddit, one person called them a "quick empanada craving fix," while others say they keep them stocked for nights when cooking just isn't in the cards.

The crust gets a lot of love, too. People like that it turns crispy while still having a bit of chew, which makes it stand out from other frozen options. Some also mention that they taste even better with a dipping sauce, which adds another layer of flavor.

Not every comment is glowing. Some say they don't taste exactly like traditional empanadas or ropa vieja, and the flavor is milder than expected. Others point out that the portion size feels a little small, especially if you're sharing.

Still, even with those notes, most people say they'd buy them again. The convenience, texture and overall flavor seem to outweigh any drawbacks, especially for something you can heat straight from frozen.

1984 Hit Ranked Among 'Best '80s Pop-Metal Songs' Revived This Glam Rock Band's Career

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:55pm

During the height of Slade's success in the '70s, the glam rockers were so enormously popular that they had 17 consecutive top 20 hits, including six number ones...or at least, that was the case in the U.K., where the band's "Merry Xmas Everybody" remains one of the best-selling Christmas singles of all time.

Unfortunately, they didn't have as much success with American listeners, and after moving to the U.S., Slade's rise to international stardom seemed to stall. Then, one song changed everything.

Released in 1984 as the lead single from Slade's album Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply (titled The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome in the U.K.), "Run, Runaway" gave Slade the breakthrough they'd been waiting for in the U.S., peaking at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 16, 1984.

Described by frontman Noddy Holder as "a rocky Scottish jig," the tune couldn't be catchier; AllMusic praised the track for its "raucous chanting, swirling guitars, wild violin, and even a taste of heavy metal bagpipes, helped along by a drum sound that is pure early '80s."

"We always wanted to do one a jig with the old violin going and that," Holder said in a 1984 TV interview, adding, "We decided to go in and put a sort of rock beat behind a Scottish jig."

As for what the song is about, well, that's anybody's guess. The lyrics are pretty ambiguous:

"Oh, now can't you wait? / Love don't come on a plate / Oh, now can't you wait? / Run, runaway / See the chameleon / Lying there in the sun / All thanks to everyone / Run, runaway"

Of course, the non-specific words make the tune that much easier to sing (and dance) along with. The song did start out as a jig, after all.

While "Run, Runaway" was Slade's only top 20 hit in the U.S., it definitely helped to cement the band's legacy as one of the most beloved bands of the genre (it was even ranked one of the "best pop-metal songs of the '80s" by Ed Masley ofThe Arizona Republic). Fun fact: People who don't think they know Slade are probably pretty familiar with their tunes: Two of Quiet Riot's biggest hits, "Cum on Feel the Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," are both Slade covers.

Madonna's Long-Awaited Biopic Will Finally Get Screen Time, Just Not the Way We Thought

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:52pm

The on-again, off-again Madonna biopic about her life finally might be gaining some momentum. It's just not in the way we thought it would. As previously reported, Madonna is joining the acclaimed, Emmy-award-winning TV series The Studio. The storyline, however, will center on a fictional take of the singer's real-life struggle to get the story of her iconic life produced.

We had wondered why Julie Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna), the actress who's slated to play the Queen of Pop in her biopic, was recently accompanying Madonna on the "Like a Virgin" music video set (aka, the canals of Venice, Italy). But finally, it was revealed that both Madonna and Garner were set to star in Season 2 of Seth Rogan‘s Apple TV show The Studio, which was filming there.

Still, though, the coincidence of Madonna and the actress who's reported to be locked in to play her hanging out together seemed fishy.

Well, now it's been revealed Madonna and Garner will appear in a two-episode storyline of the show. Madonna will play herself, and Garner will play the actress playing Madonna in a fictional biopic. Ah, life becomes art!

Related: Madonna Joins Hit Show for Her First TV Role in Decades

According to Variety's sources, here's how the story will shake out in the episodes:

"The Studio scripts will rewrite history, subbing in Rogen’s fictional company Continental Studios as the producer-financier of the Madonna-Garner movie that never was. The core Continental team—played by Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Bryan Cranston, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders—takes the biopic to Italy for a splashy debut at the Venice Film Festival, where Madonna and Garner are on hand to hype the project and nab some Oscar buzz."

Side note: Actor and filmmaker Donald Glover was also photographed on the set with Madonna and Garner. Could he be playing the director of the fictional biopic?

No word so far if the script contains any truth from Madonna's actual ongoing struggle to get her biopic made. However, maybe the TV show can drum up enough hype to actually get the much-anticipated biography made for once and for all.

For now, we wait. The Studio Season 2 is in production with a likely release date in late 2026.

1990s Pop-Rock Band Drops Summer Tour News and Fans Say 'Something's Missing'

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:36pm

Barenaked Ladies, the darlings of the late 1990smusic scene known for their catchy melodies and humor-filled onstage presence, just made a major announcement, and fans are quick to notice “something’s missing” from the band’s lineup.

The Canadian rock/pop band, famous for hits like "One Week" and "Pinch Me," announced their summer 2026 tour. The Barenaked Ladies summer 2026 tour will kick off on June 20, 2026, in Calgary, Canada, before coming to the U.S. for dates across the country, including Florida, Oregon, and California, and finishing at the Harvest Music Festival on September 26, 2026, in Fredericton, Canada.

Fans React to Steven Page’s Absence @barenakedladies

♬ Pinch Me - Live - Barenaked Ladies

Barenaked Ladies was formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Canada, by lead singer Steven Page and singer and guitarist Ed Robertson. Page left the band in 2009 and currently tours with the Steven Page Trio, occasionally making appearances with the band. Without Page’s iconic onstage persona and infectious voice, some fans claim something’s missing from the Barenaked Ladies summer 2026 tour—and that thing is Steven Page.

“Someone’s missing,” commented one fan.

“Still missing a Paige,” added another.

“Good but not as good as before with Steve Paige,” confessed another.

For the record, Steven Page is spelled “Page,” but surely the singer appreciates all spellings of his name from fans lamenting his absence from the Barenaked Ladies lineup.

Why Steven Page Left the Band

So why is Page not on the band’s summer tour? Page, now 55, faced substance-related issues, including a 2008 arrest that brought public scrutiny and unwanted negative attention to the band. Personal struggles, coupled with him and co-frontman Ed Robertson moving in different artistic directions, led Page to choose a solo career and separate from the band’s dynamic. At the time of Page’s split from the band, it was described as mutual, with Page stating he wanted a fresh start.

Life After Barenaked Ladies

Despite fans’ continued desire for Steven Page to return to Barenaked Ladies, the mutual split seems to have worked out for both sides. Page has released multiple solo albums, including Page One (2010) and Heal Thyself Pt. 1: Instinct (2016), allowing him to create more introspective and orchestral work than in his Barenaked Ladies material.

In addition, Steven Page performs with symphony orchestras across North America, writes for musical theatre and television, and continues touring as a solo artist and with the Steven Page Trio.

The Band Today and Reunion Hopes

Barenaked Ladies continue to release albums, leaning more into pop-rock and polished production on recent releases while maintaining a deeply loyal and dedicated fan base.

A testament to Page’s signature songwriting and voice, coupled with his vocal contrast to Ed Robertson that defined the early Barenaked Ladies sound, fans are still longing for a reunion. Who knows—maybe fans’ wishes will come true this summer.

Train and Matt Nathanson will join Barenaked Ladies on the road this summer.

The Genius Method To Make Garlic Bread 10x Better

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:25pm

Garlic bread is one of those sides that's hard to mess up—but also surprisingly easy to make better. I've always made it in the oven, but after testing it in the air fryer, the difference was immediate. It came out faster, crispier, with golden edges and a soft, buttery center that's hard to beat. It also took way less effort, which is always a win on busy days.

The best part is how easy it is to pull off. With just a few basic ingredients and about five minutes, I was able to turn out garlic bread that tasted like something you'd get at a restaurant. I tested it a couple of ways, including a fresh version with a baguette and ciabatta with homemade garlic butter, as well as a store-bought, frozen Texas toast, to see how each would hold up. Both worked, but the air fryer consistently delivered a better texture without the wait.

What surprised me most was how quickly everything came together. There's no need to wait for the oven to preheat, and you don't have to babysit it as much. It's a small upgrade that's easy to make, but makes a noticeable difference. Once you try it this way, it's hard to go back.

What Is Air Fryer Garlic Bread?

Fred Hernandez

Air fryer garlic bread is exactly what it sounds like: classic garlic bread made using an air fryer instead of a conventional oven. After testing it myself, the results were noticeably different. It was my first time making garlic bread this way, and it turned out to be much easier than expected.

Because of the way hot air circulates inside the air fryer, the bread crisps up faster and more evenly. The butter melts quickly, the garlic toasts just enough and the edges get that golden crunch while the inside stays soft. It's the same idea as oven-baked garlic bread—just faster and, in many cases, better.

Ingredients You'll Need

Fred Hernandez

You don't need much to make great garlic bread, but the quality of each ingredient matters. For my test, I used a mix of baguette and ciabatta with homemade garlic butter, along with a store-bought frozen Texas toast to compare.

  • Bread: A crusty loaf works best. Think baguette, ciabatta or sourdough. These hold up well and deliver a crisp exterior.
  • Butter: Use softened butter, not melted. This helps it spread more evenly without soaking into the bread too much.
  • Garlic: Freshly minced garlic gives the strongest flavor. Garlic powder works in a pinch, but fresh is worth it if you have it.
  • Parsley or herbs: I used fresh parsley for a brighter flavor, but dried parsley, basil, or Italian seasoning all work.
  • Parmesan cheese (optional): Adds a salty, savory finish. Freshly grated melts better than pre-shredded.

If you want to take it a step further, a little mozzarella added at the end gives you that melty, cheesy finish.

How To Make Air Fryer Garlic Bread

Fred Hernandez

This comes together quickly, so it helps to have everything ready before you start.

1. Make the garlic butter

In a bowl, mix together softened butter, minced garlic, parsley and parmesan (if using). I used a microplane to grate frozen parmesan, which worked well and let me achieve a fine texture without thawing it first. Stir until everything is evenly combined.

2. Prep the bread

Slice your bread in half lengthwise, or cut it into thick slices. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously over each piece, making sure to cover edge to edge.

3. Arrange in the air fryer

Place the bread in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid stacking or overlapping to allow the air to circulate properly.

4. Air fry

Cook at 350°F to 380°F, depending on your air fryer and how crispy you like it. I used a Bella four-quart slim air fryer and cooked a baguette at 350°F for about five minutes, resulting in a crisp exterior and a soft center.

For ciabatta, I increased the temperature slightly to 360°F and cooked it for about seven minutes, resulting in a crispier finish while keeping the inside soft.

5. Serve immediately

Once the edges are golden and the butter is melted, remove and serve right away. Garlic bread is best hot and fresh.

Can I Cook Frozen Garlic Bread in an Air Fryer?

Yes—and it's actually one of the easiest ways to make it.

Frozen garlic bread can go straight from the freezer into the air fryer with no need to thaw. Simply place the slices in a single layer in the basket and cook at about 370°F to 380°F for five to seven minutes, until heated through and golden on the edges.

Because air fryers cook quickly, it's a good idea to check around the five-minute mark to ensure you have the perfect level of crispness. The result is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and ready in minutes without preheating an oven.

How To Heat Store-Bought Garlic Bread in an Air Fryer

Fred Hernandez

Store-bought garlic bread doesn't usually come with air fryer instructions, so I used the oven directions on the package as a starting point and adjusted from there.

I placed the slices in a single layer in the air fryer and cooked them at 375°F for five minutes. At that point, the edges were crisp, but the center was still a bit too soft. I added about two more minutes, which made a noticeable difference in texture.

About seven minutes in, the garlic bread came out with a crisp exterior and a more fully heated, airy center. It still stayed soft inside, but not doughy.

If you're heating store-bought garlic bread in the air fryer, 375°F for about six to seven minutes worked best in my testing. Just check around the five-minute mark to avoid over-browning, as results may vary slightly depending on your air fryer.

Air Fryer Garlic Bread Recipe Tips and Tricks

A few small adjustments can make a big difference here:

  • Use softened butter, not melted: I found that softened butter spreads more evenly and stays on the surface, while melted butter can soak in and make the bread soggy.
  • Don't overcrowd the basket: Air fryers rely on airflow. When I kept the slices in a single layer, they crisped much more evenly.
  • Check early and often: Garlic can burn quickly. I started checking around the five-minute mark to avoid over-browning.
  • Add cheese at the end: If you're using mozzarella or extra cheese, add it during the last one to two minutes so it melts without burning.
  • Choose the right bread: Sturdy breads like baguette or ciabatta hold up best in my testing and offer the ideal contrast between crispy and soft.
  • Skip preheating (most of the time): I didn't preheat my air fryer, and it still crisped up quickly without overcooking the garlic.

Air-fryer garlic bread is a small upgrade that makes a big difference. It's faster, easier and delivers better texture with minimal effort. Whether you're making it from scratch or heating up store-bought garlic bread, it's a simple way to level up any meal.

Legendary Rocker, 77, Stuns Fans Performing '70s Classic: 'He Still Sounds Incredible'

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:17pm

Rock and roll's very own Golden God, Robert Plant, played the last concert of his spring tour with Saving Grace and Suzi Dian this week...and any fans who caught this special performance were very lucky, indeed.

In a fitting choice for a rock deity, the concert was held on April 7 at NYC's Cathedral of St. John the Divine (presented by Le Poisson Rouge), and videos show just how perfect the dramatically beautiful setting worked for Plant's dreamy (but rocking) playlist.

As Brooklyn Vegan reported, the show was a mix of songs from the 2025 Saving Grace album, such as "Higher Rock" and "As I Roved Out," and others, including Led Zeppelin's “Ramble On,” “Four Sticks,” and “The Rain Song." The encore closed with the band's beloved cover of Low’s “Everybody’s Song."

Fans on YouTube couldn't get over how fantastic Plant sounded performing "The Rain Song."

"It's amazing how well Robert's voice has held up through the years. He still sounds incredible!!!" one person wrote, with a second adding, "RP is just such a great performer through the years and keeps perfecting it as time goes along."

"Love this arrangement. Thanks for sharing," raved someone else, as another called the clip "lovely."

Also this week, Plant stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, playing "Higher Rock" during the broadcast — and then sticking around to play "Ramble On" as an online bonus. (Could the Tolkien-obsessed Stephen Colbert have had something to do with Plant's decision to bust out the classic Zep tune about Gollum and Mordor? Perhaps.)

Unfortunately for American fans, when Plant heads out on the road next time, he'll be headed overseas; according to his official website, his next show is scheduled for May 10 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after which he'll be visiting such locations as Brazil, Croatia, Bulgaria and Greece.

1977 Power Ballad Named No. 1 Hit Song Became a Breakup Anthem

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:38pm

Forty-nine years ago, '70s soft-rocker Mary MacGregor created a hit that topped the Billboard Hot 100, "Torn Between Two Lovers."

Released in late 1976 as the lead single and title track for her debut album of the same name, "Torn Between Two Lovers" became a massive success. A few months after its release, the track climbed the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at the No. 1 spot for two consecutive weeks in February 1977. The track also peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. Easy Listening chart and No. 4 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

Produced by Peter Yarrow of the folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary and Barry Beckett via Ariola America Records, the song is recognizable for its breezy melody and smooth arrangement. MacGregor entrances listeners with a strong vocal performance over top sweeping strings, creating a definitive ballad and easy-listening experience.

Folk group Peter, Paul, and Mary perform, Chicago, Illinois, July 31, 1983.

Written by Yarrow and Phillip Jarrell, "Torn Between Two Lovers" explores a taboo breakup theme: a love triangle. The track centers on a woman confessing to her husband that she has fallen in love with another man. Though the news is difficult to deliver, the narrator pleads with her husband for understanding, explaining that she is in love with both men.

Despite the song's positive reception, it prompted speculation that the lyrics were inspired by biographical events in MacGregor's life. Because of this suspicion, MacGregor grew to despise the song, believing its rigorous promotion schedule ultimately contributed to the dissolution of her own marriage.

Regardless of the track's risqué themes, it continues to persevere as a breakup anthem, resonating with modern audiences through streaming platforms. On Spotify alone, "Torn Between Two Lovers" has garnered over 33 million streams, attesting to its longstanding relevance.

Best-Selling Author’s Novel Ranked Among ‘Must-Read Books’ Is Having a Major Moment

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:37pm

Margo’s Got Money Troubles, by Rufi Thorpe, got all kinds of attention when it hit shelves back in June 2024. With popular book clubs recommending it to their members and Time magazine shouting it out as one of its must-read books, everyone and their best friend were talking about Margo and her financial foes.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles offers a radical look at a young woman coming into her own in a world that would prefer she stay dependent,” Time writes.

View this post on Instagram

Now, the hit novel is back in the spotlight, thanks to A24 adapting the read into a television series. Starring Elle Fanning as the titular, newly pregnant co-ed who turns to OnlyFans to make a buck and Michelle Pfeiffer as Margo’s single mother, the eight-part series hits Apple TV+ this month.

Related: ‘The Testaments’ Isn’t the Only Book Adaptation Happening in April 2026 — Here Are 4 More Not to Miss

SXSW festival goers were treated to the first three episodes at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, last month, with IndieWire reviewing it as “quite charming” and calling Pfeiffer’s contribution “solid gold.” Esquire called it “star-studded, smart, and sexy.” And The Hollywood Reporter wrote it up as “endearingly offbeat,” while noting that Pfeiffer and Fanning “sparkle.”

As screen adaptations often do, creators and showrunners take artistic liberties with the narrative they’re given. For her part, author Thorpe was all good with whatever David E. Kelley and his team wanted to do, telling THR, “I was very comfortable with the adaptation diverging significantly, I actually like it when they do that. So I wanted someone who had a vision.”

Nick Offerman and Nicole Kidman round out the cast as former pro wrestlers (yes, you read that right). If you haven’t read the book and are the type who prefers to do that before watching adaptations, now’s a good time to do so. The first three episodes drop Wednesday, April 15, on Apple TV+.

Award-Winning Author's Novel Ranked 'Worst Rated Book' on Goodreads

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:33pm

Few novels have sparked as much discussion among readers as Besos entre líneas.

The Spanish-language novel by May R. Ayamonte and Esmeralda Verdú has now been ranked No. 1 on Goodreads' list of "Worst Rated Books." The negative ratings reflect reader sentiment, with users feeling that the list's titles didn't meet expectations, highlighting the divided reactions to the book that have emerged over time.

Originally published in 2016, Besos entre líneas tells the story of a teenage girl balancing school and family life while maintaining a strong passion for reading. The authors weave together elements of identity, online presence and romance, ideas that resonated with much of its young adult audience when it first debuted.

At the time of its release, the novel drew attention for its contemporary premise and its connection to digital book culture. Its focus on social media and reading communities gave it a modern angle that aligned with shifting reader habits during the mid-2010s.

However, the same elements that helped define the book have also contributed to ongoing criticism. The novel is rated 2.5 stars on Goodreads, with 43% of the ratings being 1-star. Many reader reviews raised concerns around its writing style, character development and portrayal of relationships, which have contributed to its growing negative reception.

The top review reflects the intensity of these reactions: "The protagonist—whom the book claims is 'very strong'—actually spends her time committing one stupid blunder after another; she is so selfish that I simply cannot wrap my head around why the authors chose to develop a character in such a way."

Despite this, Ayamonte and Verdú have continued to build their careers. Ayamonte, in particular, has gone on to publish additional works and earn the Edebé Prize for Young Adult Literature, solidifying her place in Spanish-language literature beyond her debut.

Rankings like this often reflect general audience reactions rather than professional critique. In this case, the novel's placement reflects how clearly reader responses have defined its reputation.

Sandy Duncan Recalls the Hilarious Reason Burt Reynolds Told Her ‘I Wanted To Kill You'

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:23pm

Sandy Duncan is looking back on a hilarious run-in with screen legend Burt Reynolds.

Duncan, 80, became a legend of the stage with her role in Peter Pan and later became a TV staple thanks to a role on The Hogan Family. With endless film roles under her belt, Duncan is known as one of Hollywood's most adaptable stars. And as it turns out, she can even tackle one of the most famous children's television characters.

During an appearance on Nostalgia Tonight with Joe Sibilia, Duncan spoke about her role on the Barney & the Backyard Gang videos, which came out in 1988, before the series headed to PBS and became an international phenomenon. Looking for work during the writer's strike, the opportunity gave her a chance to spend time with her family.

"When I got there and saw what it was, I went, 'Oh my God, what have I done?' " said Duncan, PEOPLE reported. "We filmed it, and it was very much a [children 's] show. It ended because I had to go back to work and they had shot their pilot, which I did three episodes. And they came out to have a meeting with me and they said, they all had Texas accents, and they said, 'Sandy, now we're going to do a series of it and we're going to put it on, if you do it, they'll put it on PBS... we're going to have plush toys and do all this.' "

Duncan, of course, moved on, but the show evolved into Barney & Friends, which became a staple of the '90s.

What Did Burt Reynolds Say to Sandy Duncan?

Barney went down in American history as a notorious children's character. However, not everyone was a huge fan.

"Burt Reynolds, I can't say [where] exactly, but we were at a big gathering, one of those events, and somebody behind my back creeped up and whispered in my ear, 'I wanted to kill you,' because he had a toddler, and he said, 'All we have on television is you and Barney,'" Duncan recalled.

Check out this hilarious flashback from Duncan's role on Barney & the Backyard Gang below!

Aldi Brought Back a $5 Fan Favorite That Will Make Your Home Smell Very Familiar

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:05pm

I love a company that doesn't take itself too seriously. Like, yes, give me great products and good prices, but if you can also make me laugh? I'm loyal for life. It's even better when a retailer is clearly in on the joke, fully aware of our collective obsessions, little shopping quirks, and the random things we all suddenly decide we need.

That's exactly why Aldi keeps winning me over. It has mastered that sweet spot of being both practical and playful, and every so often, they drop something that feels like a wink to their customers. Case in point: the candle that basically broke the internet last year, or at least the computers of Aldi fans chomping at the bit to get one.

Anyone who wanted in on the freebie had to be among the first to click a link to the promotion and quickly enter their info to snag a set of two candles. (One for you, one for a friend.) The candles were gone in a flash, leaving many Aldi fans disappointed.

But alas, the Aldi Burning Cash Candle is back; however, it will cost you. The candle costs $4.99, and this year it's a three-wick version instead of the single-wick freebies the grocery chain gave away last year. It will be available in the Aldi Finds aisle beginning April 15.

Over on Reddit, Aldi fans who managed to score a Burning Cash candle reported it smelled intensely smoky.

"It's very smoky smelling," wrote one Redditor. "They really tried with that 'money on fire' smell. Not a nice, light scent."

In 2026, however, the candle is referred to as a "volcano mist" scent, and having been sent the product to preview, I'm not getting a heavy smokiness at all. In fact, it reminds me of a lighter version of the Capri Blue Volcano candle. It's very pretty and not overpowering.

Of course, if candles aren't your thing, there's still plenty of other items that might pique your interest in the Aldi Finds aisle right now. Like a foldable reclining outdoor chair, a chic bamboo lazy Susan to help organize your kitchen, and a pair of gold sandals you'll want to wear all spring and summer long.

Jell-O Fans Are Already Drooling Over This Nostalgic New Pudding Flavor: ‘Yum!’

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:00pm

Jell-O is getting a new ready-to-enjoy pudding flavor next month, and with how excited fans are, we expect it to fly off shelves.

Earlier this week, Kraft Heinz—the parent company of the iconic gelatin dessert and instant pudding brand—quietly updated its website to feature a new ready-to-eat treat inspired by a classic dessert and reminiscent of one Jell-O offered over a decade ago.

Loyal Jell-O enthusiasts may remember the birthday cake-flavored pudding treats it offered for a brief time in 2012, which quickly topped critics' lists before disappearing from shelves. While the company isn't bringing that exact snack back, Jell-O is gearing up to launch a new Birthday Cake Pudding Cup.

Jell-O To Launch New Birthday Cake-Flavored Pudding Treat This Spring

Parade confirmed with the brand that the upcoming birthday cake-inspired pudding is a completely new offering, different from what it offered 14 years ago.

The new product's pudding base features a consistent birthday-cake-flavored pudding throughout the cup, whereas the previous recipe had a chocolate layer in the base. The toppings have also changed, according to the brand. The original cups used to include just rainbow sprinkles, but now they feature a confetti-and-rainbow-sprinkle cookie crumble.

It offers a "simple yet decadent" twist on the nostalgic and festive favorite, as described in its product listing, and each package contains two pudding cups with 140 calories per serving. Those worried about allergens should know this pudding is made with dairy, and the topping is wheat-based, so it's not gluten-free. Detailed nutritional information is available here.

As for why the comeback after all these years, the company suggested it's because birthday cake-flavored items have become so popular, calling it a "mainstream flavor anchor" now and "another way for Jell-O to bring celebration into everyday moments."

And after images of the new product began circulating online, fans proved the company right, erupting with excitement over the release.

"That looks yummy!!!" one Instagram user cheered.

"Birthday cake anything gimme," a third gushed before signing off with a drooling face emoji. "🤤."

"Ohhh I’d love to try this 😍," another declared without hesitation, while a different fan said it sounds so "good."

"All the big back stuff coming for summer 🥲😂😩," one more joked.

Where Will the New Birthday Cake Jell-O Pudding Cups Be Available?

Jell-O's new Birthday Cake Pudding Cups will be available in the refrigerated section of retailers and grocery stores that typically carry other ready-to-enjoy Jell-O products beginning this May (prices may vary).

The newcomer should be on shelves at least through the summer.
