One of TV's Most Famous 'Angels' Turns 75 Today

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 5:02am

Cheryl Ladd turns 75 today, and she owes one of the biggest breaks of her career to one of the hardest jobs in 1970s television: replacing Farrah Fawcett.

When Fawcett left Charlie's Angels after its first season, producer Aaron Spelling wanted Ladd to step in. She almost turned it down, telling him no one could simply be "the new Farrah Fawcett." Spelling had already looked at hundreds of actresses without finding a fit, then came back to her. Ladd's own pitch helped crack it: she suggested playing a rookie who could be funny and make mistakes. Spelling's fix was to write her a brand-new character, Kris Munroe, the younger sister of Fawcett's Jill. Ladd joined in 1977 and stayed until the series ended in 1981.

A Milestone Year for the Angels

It is a fitting year for a big birthday. Charlie's Angels first aired in 1976, which makes 2026 the show's 50th anniversary. Ladd reunited with original co-stars Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith this spring to mark the milestone, turning up together at PaleyFest and on Today.

More Than an Angel

Ladd built a long run after the show, with film roles in Purple Hearts and Poison Ivy and a parallel career as a singer and author. She has also been candid this year about something more personal, revealing that she had quietly been battling breast cancer, a diagnosis she had kept out of the public eye.

Fifty years after a small-town girl from Huron, South Dakota, was asked to do the impossible, Ladd is still the rookie Angel who made the part her own.

'60s Rock Band Played Its First-Ever Gig Under a Different Name 64 Years Ago Today

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 5:01am

Sixty-four years ago today, at a jazz club in central London, a young rhythm and blues band played its first-ever show. They called themselves the Rollin' Stones, spelled without the g. Two of the musicians who would make the group one of the biggest bands in history were not on the stage.

The gig came together almost by accident. Bandleader Alexis Korner and his group Blues Incorporated held a regular Thursday night slot at the Marquee Club, but that week Korner was booked for a BBC radio show. He asked a handful of young friends to fill in on July 12, 1962. So Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart took the gig, supporting a group led by Long John Baldry.

A Band Without a Drummer

The lineup that night looked nothing like the Stones fans would come to know. Jagger sang, Richards and Jones played guitar (Jones used the stage name Elmo Lewis), Stewart was on piano and Dick Taylor played bass. Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman had not joined yet. A drummer named Mick Avory, who later found fame with the Kinks, was listed in the press preview but did not turn up, and to this day no one is sure whether anyone played drums at all. Watts would not sign on for another six months.

What They Played

The set was built from covers of their American heroes, songs by Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed and Fats Domino like "Kansas City," "Confessin' the Blues" and "Dust My Broom." Jagger's first quote in the press, given to Jazz News, set the tone: "I hope they don't think we're a Rock 'n Roll outfit."

Sixty-four years on, the band is still going, with a new album, Foreign Tongues, out this summer. Not bad for a fill-in gig.

‘Star Trek’ Favorite Jeri Ryan, 58, Makes a Stunning Red Carpet Appearance in Italy

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 5:00am

Jeri Ryan is best known for her roles in the Star Trek universe, but the talented actress looks absolutely stunning here on Earth.

Ryan, 58, rose to fame as Seven of Nine, a former Borg drone, in Star Trek: Voyager, the wildly popular science fiction TV series. After Ryan returned from space, she landed on the popular series Boston Public, racking up 59 episodes as Ronnie Cooke, an attorney who decides to become a high school teacher after serving as a guest lecturer at Boston Public High School. In 2020, Ryan returned to her roots as Seven of Nine and appeared on Star Trek: Picard for 25 additional episodes. But in a new appearance on the red carpet at the Italian Global Series Festival 2026 in Rimini, Italy, Ryan looked absolutely stunning in a high-neck, one-shoulder dress. The deep blue gown perfectly complemented Ryan's blonde hair, which has been a trademark throughout her career.

Jeri Ryan is a Proud Mom

While Ryan has a lengthy resume as an actress, her favorite role is mom. The stunning took to Instagram to wish her daughter a happy 18th birthday, and one glance at the teen made it clear that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Sporting the same stunning blue eyes as her mother, Ryan’s daughter smiled in the sweet photo alongside her father.

“My Little Pea, my baby girl, turned 18 yesterday. 💗 What an honor it’s been watching her grow into the most incredible, brilliant, kind, beautiful young woman. I’m the luckiest momâ€ŠđŸ˜đŸ„°đŸ’•đŸ’—,” Ryan captioned the photo series.

View this post on Instagram Was it Hard to Reprise Her Star Trek Role?

Since there were 19 years in between when Star Trek: Voyager went off the air and Star Trek: Picard started production, Ryan admitted she found it a bit tough to get back into the correct mindset. However, working with another alum was all it took for her to snap back into Star Trek style.

“I was so fortunate because Jonathan Frakes was directing my first episode. So with that, I knew I was in good hands. [Frakes], more than anyone else, would get the importance of revisiting and being true to these characters,” Ryan told the Hollywood Reporter in 2020. “Because the challenge for me is: Where has she been for nearly 20 years? Finding her voice was the hardest thing for me; when I read the first script — I just couldn’t hear her voice anywhere.”

After a few takes, Ryan said she “found Seven.”

Fleetwood Mac's Quiet Hitmaker Would Have Turned 83 Today

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 4:43am

When people think of Fleetwood Mac, they often think first of the turbulent relationships that inspired Rumours or the magnetic stage presence of Stevie Nicks. But Christine McVie, who would have turned 83 on July 12, quietly became the band's emotional center, writing many of its warmest, most enduring songs.

After first working with Fleetwood Mac as a session musician, McVie officially joined the band in 1970 as its keyboardist, songwriter and one of its lead vocalists. Over the next three decades, she penned classics including "Over My Head," "Say You Love Me," "Don't Stop," "You Make Loving Fun," "Songbird," "Hold Me," "Little Lies" and "Everywhere." Eight of her songs ultimately appeared on Fleetwood Mac's 1988 Greatest Hits compilation album, a testament to how central her writing was to the band's success.

Unlike many of Fleetwood Mac's most famous songs, McVie's work rarely dwelled on bitterness. In a tribute published shortly after her death in 2022, NPR observed that she consistently brought "deep, romantic optimism" to the band's music, describing her songs as grounded in "romance and warmth" even when they acknowledged life's uncertainties. The outlet noted that while Fleetwood Mac became famous for songs about heartbreak, McVie specialized in hope.

That perspective wasn't accidental. Speaking to Guitar World years earlier (as cited by NPR), McVie summed up her approach simply: "I'm a pretty basic love-song writer. Pretty basic relationship writer."

She added with characteristic modesty, "I've been told that I have a way of saying the obvious in a non-obvious way."

Her bandmates knew just how indispensable she was. Mick Fleetwoodwrote in the 1991 book "Fleetwood: My Life and Adventures in Fleetwood Mac" that after Peter Green's departure, "Christine became the glue [that held the band together]. She filled out our sound beautifully."

Even after leaving Fleetwood Mac in 1998 because of a fear of flying, McVie couldn't stay away forever. She surprised fans by joining the band onstage in London in 2013 before officially returning the following year. The reunion reminded audiences just how much of Fleetwood Mac's signature sound came from her piano, soulful contralto and understated songwriting.

When McVie died in November 2022 at age 79, the tributes reflected not only her musical gifts but also the affection she inspired. Nicks called her "my best friend in the whole world," while Lindsey Buckinghamdescribed her as "a musical comrade, a friend, a soul mate, a sister." Rolling Stone later shared Mick Fleetwood's eulogy for McVie where he said she "gifted so much to millions around the world" and believed she would have been "truly amazed at all the attention and celebrations of her music around the world."

Perhaps McVie herself explained her legacy best. In a 2017 interview with Las Vegas Weekly reflecting on Fleetwood Mac's songwriting balance, she said, "My contribution is the romance and the warmth. The love songs." NPR noted that those qualities became the band's emotional anchor, allowing her songs to shine through every era of Fleetwood Mac's remarkable career.

More than two years after her death, that warmth still resonates every time listeners hear "Songbird," "Everywhere" or "Don't Stop." Quietly, almost effortlessly, Christine McVie wrote some of the most beloved songs in rock history, and they're every bit as timeless as the band that recorded them.

The Wildest New Mountain Coaster on the East Coast Just Landed in Virginia

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 4:10am

Imagine strapping yourself into a sleek, open-air bobsled at the tiptop of a mountain ridge, releasing the handbrake, and immediately dropping into a winding, high-speed canopy cruise where you are the one entirely in control of the speedometer.

That's the exact adrenaline rush waiting for travelers in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Massanutten Resort, a massive 6,000-acre four-season getaway tucked into Virginia’s historic Shenandoah Valley, has officially opened Mountain Mayhem—the first-ever authentic alpine coaster in the state of Virginia. For road-trippers and outdoor lovers looking to add a heavy dose of gravity-defying fun to their next mountain escape, this launch changes the entire layout of the region's adventure scene.

"We’re excited to welcome members of our local community, as well as resort guests, to experience the all-new Mountain Mayhem, which truly is a cutting-edge addition to the roster of attractions available at the Family Adventure Park," saidKameron Tucker, mountain sports director at Massanutten Resort.

Related: Waldameer Just Announced a Major New Roller Coaster—And It Proves Smaller Parks Are Dominating Right Now

If you've never experienced a true alpine coaster before, it's completely different from a standard amusement park ride. Instead of being pulled along a rigid track on a fixed schedule, you sit in individual carts that navigate the natural terrain of the mountainside.

The physical layout of Mountain Mayhem is incredibly impressive, spanning a total length of 3,380 feet. The ride kicks off with a scenic pull up the mountain before unleashing you onto 2,156 feet of pure downhill track. From there, you will fly through deep forest banked turns and scream through two spectacular, full 360-degree loops.

Related: Six Flags Is Building Another Record-Breaking Coaster—This Time With a Wild Family Twist

The entire run lasts roughly six minutes, and because each cart is equipped with its own manual braking system, the experience is fully customizable. If you are a die-hard thrill-seeker, you can push the levers all the way forward to hit top speeds of 25 miles per hour, turning the mountain into a blur of green. If you are traveling with someone who prefers a slow-paced, scenic cruise, you can easily ride the brakes to leisurely soak in the sweeping, panoramic views of the valley below.

To make it a true family affair, the coaster features both single and double-rider configurations. (Just note a few quick safety ground rules before you head to the gate: single riders must be at least 13 years old, little ones have to be at least four years old to ride with an adult, and the maximum combined weight for a double cart tops out at 350 pounds).

According to Massanutten's general manager and vice president, Michael Hammes, this mountain coaster is just the first drop in a massive wave of property updates. The resort is currently expanding its award-winning indoor and outdoor water parks, building a brand-new hotel with direct water park access, and developing a luxury active-adult lifestyle community on the property.

Single-ride tickets are available now at the resort's Family Adventure Park, but if you want to stretch your afternoon budget, your best bet is to grab a combo pass. This unlocks access to the rest of the park's heavy-hitting summer lineup—including the 3,000-foot Mega Zip line, massive summer tubing lanes, and outdoor climbing excursions. It's a beautiful excuse to pack your favorite carry-on bag, head into the valley, and discover a whole new way to experience the great outdoors.

Sweet snacks and coffee have always gone hand in hand. Whether it's a doughnut on the way to work or a cookie after dinner, there's just something about the combination that works. But if you're looking for something that doesn't taste overly sugary, Rip Van's Dutch Caramel and Vanilla Stroopwafels might be worth clearing a little pantry space for.

Fans say a stroopwafel and coffee are a match made in heaven, and many even recommend warming the stroopwafel over your mug for a minute so the caramel filling softens before the first bite. It's a classic Dutch tradition—and one that might just make your morning coffee a little better.

The Better-for-You Treat That Doesn't Taste Like One

Courtesy Rip Van

Not every sweet craving calls for a giant pastry or an oversized cookie. Sometimes you just want a little something to go with your coffee; enough to satisfy your sweet tooth without feeling like you've overdone it before the day has even started.

Rip Van seems to have figured out that balance. Instead of piling on the sugar, the Dutch Caramel and Vanilla Stroopwafels keep things pretty simple. Each one has just 3 grams of sugar and 6 grams of fiber, but judging by the reviews, that's never been the selling point.

People rave about the caramel flavor, the chewy texture and maybe most importantly, that they're "not too sweet," according to customer reviews on the Target website. More than one customer even said they've become their new go-to treat.

People also liked how easy they are to keep on hand. Each stroopwafel comes individually wrapped, and several reviewers mentioned they appreciated that they're made without artificial sweeteners, colors or preservatives.

At $6.89 for a six-pack at Target, they're an easy excuse to give the classic coffee-and-stroopwafel pairing a try.

A Snack for Every Craving

Rip Van has grown well beyond its original stroopwafel. Today, the lineup includes crispy wafers, sandwich cookies, wafer bars and Nutty Crunch bars, with flavors ranging from Dutch Caramel and Vanilla to Cookies and Cream, Snickerdoodle, Chocolate, and Vanilla.

Target stocks a handful of Rip Van products, and if you're looking for the full lineup, you can also shop on the Rip Van website.

With so many options now available, it's easy to see how Rip Van has grown from a single stroopwafel into an entire snack brand. Chances are, there's at least one product that'll earn a spot in your pantry for your next coffee break.

11 Multi-Genre Books That Will Absolutely Wreck Your Productive Week—and One Is the Highly Anticipated Romantasy ‘Dominion'

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 4:00am

July 14 is packed with releases across all genres. Whether you want romance, mystery, or even romantasy steeped in Chinese mythology, there is a story for you!

Of course, it means your productive week is about to be completely disrupted. Say goodbye to your sleep schedule as you say “just one more chapter,” and know that it means the whole book.

For those struggling with where to start, we have 11 releases that are packed with everything you could need. Now you just need to decide if you’re starting with fantasy or mystery for your first read.

Courtesy of Penguin Random House ‘Dominion’ by Jean Kwok

Are you ready for a new romantasy trilogy? Dominion by Jean Kwok will start the story, bringing a perfect blend of Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games while being steeped in Chinese mythology. This is a world of magic and loss, as fourrival Dominions attempt to seize all power.

Rubi Morningtail has barely any memory of her life and very little magic. She’s scraping by as a ribbon dancer, hiding the magic that she does have, living as an Azure refugee in Silver Tyger. When she wounds a massive battle tyger, she is forced into the Bonding, a brutal trial where tygers choose their riders. The rest are slaughtered, a little like how the dragons picked their riders on House of the Dragon Season 2. When Rubi survives, she has to unlock the truth of her magic if she is going to save the realm from multiple threats.

Courtesy of Joy Revolution | Penguin Random House ‘To Dance the Moon and Stars’ by Tasia M S and Barbara Perez Marquez

Are you more in the mood for a graphic novel? It’s not often that I include them on Parade’s list, but this is far too beautiful, and it’s perfect for a summer read. To Dance the Moon and Stars by Tasia M S and Barbara Perez Marquez is a story of 18-year-old Myra, who has spent her whole life training to be the high priestess after her grandmother, and now her ascension is approaching.

However, she’s filled with self-doubt. She can’t understand how she could possibly be the herald of the god Alrun when he forbids dancing, the one thing she loves more than anything else. However, as darkness starts to seep through the barrier between worlds, she needs to find her path and a source of light to save everyone. That source of light? Her childhood best friend, who happens to be the crown prince.

Courtesy of Sourcebooks Landmark ‘The Sins of Summer Daughters’ by Lo Patrick

For those who need more of a mystery rather than a fantasy, there is The Sins of Summer Daughters by Lo Patrick, which follows a granddaughter accused of murder. She needs to confront the secrets of a summer long buried if she wants to prove her innocence.

The Sins of Summer Daughters follows Meg Gregory, who is forced to return to her small Georgia town after her divorce. She’s spent years running from her past, trying to hide the secrets that threatened to consume her. However, when her granddaughter Lucy is accused of murder, Meg’s memories go back to a different murder from a different summer, and it brings up plenty of questions about who really is innocent in all of this.

Courtesy of Simon & Schuster ‘The Death Row Club’ by V.A. Vazquez

Sometimes, you need a thriller with a twist from the very start. We’ve spent plenty of hours reading novels with unreliable narrators and trying to figure out a killer, and while The Death Row Club by V.A. Vazquez delves into those thriller arcs, there is one thing that stands out: The setting.

We start with Nicola Fischer trying to figure out life after her father is convicted of the murder of five women. One of those was her best friend. When she reaches out to a podcast host, Greer Woods, while drunk, she ends up with a cryptic invitation that changes everything. There’s a chance to meet other adult children of convicted murderers, but when one of them turns up dead, it looks like the apple may not fall too far from the tree.

Courtesy of St. Martins ‘Bordergrams: A Quest for the Queen’ by G. T. Karber

There are times that we don’t just want to read the mystery. We want to be a part of it, solving it in the way the protagonist is, and Bordergrams: A Quest for the Queen by G.T. Karber offers a way to do that. In this story, Sir Render and Friar Pan need to save a Queendom in peril, and we get to go on the journey with them.

We work through the word puzzles. There’s a map filled with words and cryptic clues that give you a more immersive Da Vinci Code experience. And yes, while the first clues may seem easy, you know that the puzzles get more complicated as they go on. Do you have what it takes to save the Queendom?

Courtesy of Penguin Random House ‘Unfinished Business’ by Clare Osongco

There’s always a family supernatural fiction, which is everything Unfinished Business by Clare Osongco promises. What would happen if you suddenly died at your desk? What about all the unfinished business that you have? That’s exactly what Adela Ocampo experiences, only it takes her daughter Ruby getting a job at the same office for Adela to be able to work through the issues.

Adela is trapped in the company’s Slack, and now Ruby has to figure out how to resolve Adela’s unfinished business. This is also a chance for Ruby to finally live up to her mother’s expectations, as she works through the many issues in both of their lives, including stunted careers, romance, and what truly matters in life.

Courtesy of St. Martins ‘The Forest Becomes Her’ by Julie Carrick Dalton

Sometimes, you need family drama with some magical realism, and that’s everything that The Forest Becomes Her by Julie Carrick Dalton can offer. It’s the perfect choice for book clubs around the world, bringing a story of three women from different generations, making sure it will speak to everyone in some sort of way.

The heart of the story is a centuries-old forest, which has been removed to create eco-friendly housing. The locals are upset, but out-of-towners are moving in to put down their roots, and Hazel Stoddard is one of them. However, as she tries to live her new life guilt-free, she is pulled in by the now-absent forest, and she’s drawn to Stella Flint and Polly Bauer, who each have their own connection to the land. Can they save the last oak tree, and what will it mean?

Courtesy of St. Martins ‘The Great Game’ by Arvind Ethan David

How about a world in which the great detective Sherlock Holmes is around? The Great Game by Arvind Ethan David is set in 1905 London, and Balvinder dev Singh is a law student and military veteran who is far more devious than he seems. While he rubs shoulders with the upper class, he also picks their pockets and steals their valuables.

However, things take a turn when it comes to his next mark, which turns into a murder — in the library, but it’s probably not Colonel Mustard with the candlestick. No, Bal needs to get to the bottom of this mystery, but when there are more killings, Scotland Yard and the aging Sherlock Holmes get pulled in on the case, and now Bal needs to clear his own name.

Courtesy of Penguin Random House ‘Die for Me’ by Shirlene Obuobi

Ali Hazelwood makes it clear that she is obsessed with the next book releasing on July 14, 2026. Die for Me by Shirlene Obuobi is a paranormal romance that’s perfect for those looking for a slightly more contemporary vampire story. It’s packed with spice, as a doctor finds herself falling in love with a much younger man, although just how young is he, all things considered?

Sean isn’t in the market for love, though. She’s the only female in the international cardiology department at the hospital, and she’s also Black, and that means she’s watched over doubly by the many men in her department. However, Julian makes her feel things she’s never felt before, and the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes that he has depth beyond his years. As she starts to put the pieces together, she has to figure out what she’s falling in love with, and not who.

Courtesy of Little, Brown and Company ‘No One Leaves the Manor’ by Kelly McWilliams

Did you love Their Vicious Games? How about The Finalists? No One Leaves the Manor by Kelly McWilliams is your next must-read. It’s historical fiction as well as a mystery and thriller, and you’re sure to stay up all night getting to the end.

Set in 1921, Mrs. Caroline Reginald Kane is looking for the next heir to her family’s oil estate. She picks four young debutantes to visit her at Greystone Manor to compete for the title, and only one girl can win. However, the manor is watching, and soon, the girls find out that they’re all trapped in this space. Something sinister is hiding behind the walls, and it’s not letting any of the girls escape alive.

Courtesy of Simon & Schuster ‘In Stormy Weather’ by Chelsea Curto

Finally, we have a contemporary romance to add to your reading list. In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto brings a beautiful rivals-to-lovers romance. It’s set in hurricane season in Florida, with two storm-chasing meteorologists simply trying to do the work they love. Mother Nature seems to have other plans for them.

Quincy Monroe is a woman-in-STEM with a PhD in atmospheric sciences, and she has spent hours forging her path in a world dominated by men. It’s paid off, as well, as she has one million followers on Instagram and a successful online weather show. She won’t let anyone derail her success, even if her rival Sebastian Dunn tries to make it happen. He is her best friend’s brother and professional rival whom everyone swoons over. Except Quincy, of course! But for how long?

Sen. Lindsey Graham Dies at 71 After "Brief and Sudden Illness"

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 3:37am

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., died Saturday evening at age 71, his office announced early Sunday. The statement attributed his death to "a brief and sudden illness" and did not provide additional details. The family asked for privacy.

Emergency personnel responded to a cardiac arrest call at Graham's Capitol Hill home Saturday night, according to police scanner audio obtained by NBC News, which also reviewed photographs showing paramedics carrying a person on a stretcher to an ambulance. A senior Graham staffer told the network there had been no indication the senator was feeling unwell. He had been scheduled to appear on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday morning.

Graham was active until the end of his life. On Friday he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, his 10th visit to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion, and the same day announced an agreement with the Trump administration to advance a package of Russia sanctions. He won South Carolina's Republican primary on June 9 and was seeking a fifth term in November. He chaired the Senate Budget Committee.

First elected to the Senate in 2002 after four terms in the House, Graham served 23 years in the chamber and was one of the Republican Party's most prominent voices on defense and foreign policy. He advocated hard-line positions on Iran and Russia, and with the late Sens. John McCain and Joe Lieberman formed the hawkish trio known as the "Three Amigos." He ran briefly for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and criticized Donald Trump during that campaign before becoming one of the president's closest congressional allies, advising him on foreign policy and appearing regularly at his side.

President Trump paid tribute on Truth Social early Sunday, calling Graham "one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known." Senate Majority Leader John Thune and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster also issued statements, with McMaster saying he was devastated and calling Graham irreplaceable.

My statement on the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham: pic.twitter.com/hbrjnMXIQd

— Gov. Henry McMaster (@henrymcmaster) July 12, 2026

Graham was born in 1955 in Central, South Carolina, where his parents ran a restaurant and pool hall. After both parents died within 15 months of each other, he helped raise his younger sister. He was the first in his family to attend college and served 33 yearsin uniform as an Air Force lawyer, retiring from the Reserves as a colonel in 2015. Arrangements have not been announced, and the process for filling the Senate vacancy has not yet been addressed by state officials.

Dr. Ruth was also one of late-night television's most beloved guests, making memorable appearances with hosts like David Letterman, whose trademark deadpan was often no match for Dr. Ruth's uninhibited humor and candid relationship advice. With her infectious laugh and willingness to tackle even the most awkward questions, she charmed audiences while leaving more than a few talk show hosts blushing.

Even in her 90s, Dr. Ruth showed no signs of slowing down. In 2023, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul named her the state's first honorary Ambassador to Loneliness. She was recognized for her commitment to helping people combat social isolation and build meaningful relationships. It was a role that reflected what Dr. Ruth had always believed: that emotional connection is just as important as physical intimacy. "I don't want to be known only as a sex therapist," she said at the time. "I want to be known as a therapist."

Dr. Ruth died on July 12, 2024, at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. As the anniversary of her passing, her words remind us that curiosity, kindness, resilience, and genuine human connection can enrich every stage of life. That's what makes Dr. Ruth the perfect inspiration for today's Quote of the Day.

Quote of the Day by Dr. Ruth Westheimer

"Take responsibility for your own happiness. Never put it in other people's hands."
— Dr. Ruth Westheimer

Dr. Ruth Westheimer shared this powerful advice in a 2016 interview for Harvard Business Review's Life's Work series, in which influential figures reflected on the experiences, lessons and values that shaped their careers. Looking back on her extraordinary journey—from Holocaust survivor and refugee to pioneering therapist, bestselling author and beloved media personality—Dr. Ruth spoke about the importance of taking ownership of one's own life and choices.

What Did Dr. Ruth Mean by "Take Responsibility for Your Own Happiness"?

The quote captures a philosophy that guided her for decades: happiness is not something another person can give us or something we should wait for someone else to create. While relationships, friendships and loved ones can bring tremendous joy and meaning, Dr. Ruth believed that each person must also nurture their own sense of purpose, confidence and fulfillment.

Why Dr. Ruth's Advice Still Matters Today

The deeper meaning behind her words becomes even more powerful when viewed through the lens of her remarkable life. As a child, Ruth Westheimer endured unimaginable loss after being sent away from Nazi Germany on a Kindertransport-like rescue effort and never seeing her parents again. She later rebuilt her life across Europe, Israel and the United States, overcoming displacement, hardship and uncertainty before earning advanced degrees and becoming one of the world's most recognized advocates for communication and connection.

Dr. Ruth's message was never that life would be easy. She believed that people have the ability to shape their futures by refusing to surrender their power to fear, disappointment or circumstances beyond their control. Her own story demonstrated that resilience begins with the belief that we can continue moving forward. Even after experiencing profound challenges.

More Inspiring Quotes From Dr. Ruth Westheimer

"Love at first sight doesn't exist. The only thing that can exist at first sight is an interest in developing a relationship."

"If you face a problem, don't tell yourself that you can't do it. Convince yourself that you have the strength to deal with almost anything."

"My favorite thing about sex? It brings people closer."

"When it comes to sex, the most important six inches are the ones between the ears."

"Remember, attraction is only one part of a relationship. Loyalty, commitment, and responsibility are the other parts."

“It is relatively easy for a person to lie. Saying “I love you” takes little or no effort. However, demonstrating love requires involvement, participation, and action. If your relationship doesn’t have any involvement, participation, and action, then you can assume it also has very little love.”

1987 Power Ballad, Once Sung by a Future 'Full House' Star, Became a Timeless Heartbreak Anthem

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 1:59am

Thirty-nine years ago this week, a soaring power ballad handed Heart the biggest hit of their career. What most fans never realized is that "Alone" was not really Heart's song at all.

On July 11, 1987, "Alone" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for three weeks. The lead single from Heart's ninth album, Bad Animals, it became the band's second and final chart-topper, and the biggest song sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson ever recorded. Ann's towering vocal is the reason it is still an audition and karaoke staple decades later.

It Started as Someone Else's Song

"Alone" was written by Billy Steinberg, who died earlier this year, and Tom Kelly, the hitmaking duo behind Madonna's "Like a Virgin." The pair also wrote Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" and the Bangles' "Eternal Flame," among many others. They first recorded it themselves in 1983 under the name i-Ten. Then, before Heart ever touched it, the song was cut by a young John Stamos for the soundtrack of a short-lived 1984 CBSsitcom, years before Full House made him a household name.

Heart Made It Unforgettable

When Heart finally recorded it in 1987, everything fell into place, from Ann Wilson's explosive delivery to Kelly's own high harmonies on the track. It outlasted nearly everything around it on the chart.

Almost four decades later, the Wilson sisters are still going strong as Heart marks 50 years, and "Alone" remains one of the definitive power ballads of the 1980s.

This Hit Series Was the First to Be Emmy Nominated for Best Comedy — and Best Drama

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 1:25am

If you were with Netflix from the beginning, you know that the dawn of streaming came with two groundbreaking series.

Both House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black would spawn numerous seasons after launching in 2013. Come to think of it — Saturday, July 11 marked exactly 13 years since the latter debuted on the now-enormous streaming platform.

Often shortened to OITNB, the beloved comedy-drama features a stellar cast of mostly female performers, some of whom could probably thank the series for assisting in their launch to stardom. We're looking at you, Uzo Aduba and Laverne Cox...

Oh, and labeling OITNB a "comedy-drama" is worthy of note since it calls back to another way in which the edgy show was groundbreaking: After competing in the Primetime Emmy Awards' comedy categories in 2014, it switched to drama races the following year — meaning the series became the first in the TV Academy's history to be nominated for both Best Comedy and Best Drama.

It all had to do with a failed petition filed for the 2015 awards show, Variety reported at the time, where Netflix still wanted OITNB to compete as a comedy even though each episode was an hour long.

"Orange Is the New Black is a truly pioneering series and an iconoclast which has always defied genre or easy categorization,” said Ted Sarandos at the time, per Variety. "While we’re disappointed in the committee’s decision, we believe that Orange represents the best of television in either category."

Meanwhile, another star of the show, Ruby Rose, recently made headlines when she was rushed to the hospital after a freak accident in her backyard swimming pool. In a video captured at Rose’s home, she was attempting to work on her swimming pool at home with a hose in her hand. Wearing a bra and sweatpants, Rose, 40, misjudged the ledge of the pool and went plunging into the water, slamming into the ledge before falling in. Find out more here.

1967 Rock Classic, Ranked Among ‘Greatest Songs of All Time,’ Was Just Reimagined by Bon Jovi

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 12:16am

Jon Bon Jovi and his iconic rock band, Bon Jovi, took to Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday, July 7, marking the first of nine sold-out shows of their headlining Forever Tour.

Before launching into their 21-song set list, the rockers, according to People,  made up of original members Tico Torres and David Bryan, as well as Hugh McDonald, John Shanks, Phil X, and Everett Bradley, shared a video message with their fans. Afterward, they opened the show with the 1967 The Beatles classic, “With a Little Help from My Friends,” in the style of Joe Cocker, as shown in the YouTube fan video below.

For Bon Jovi, 64, the cover song was a fitting opener, setting a lighthearted tone for the audience as he returned to the stage for his first tour since undergoing vocal cord surgery four years ago. The choice carried an extra layer of meaning as the opening lyrics of the song go: “What would I do if I sang out of tune
” That moment served as a playful nod to the challenges the singer has had to face with his voice as he eases back into performances.

This, of course, isn’t the first time Bon Jovi put his spin on “With a Little Help from My Friends.” Years ago, he tackled the hit for a 1992 special called An Evening with Bon Jovi.

Released in May 1967, “With a Little Help from My Friends” appears on The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the rock classic was one of the Fab Four’s songs sung by Ringo Starr, who later performed it in his solo sets. “With a Little Help from My Friends” has previously ranked at No. 311 on Rolling Stone’s ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’ list.

Alongside The Beatles, many other versions of the song exist. Two popular renditions include Cocker’s version, recorded in 1968 for his album of the same name and used as the theme song for the comedy series The Wonder Years, and soft rock band Wet Wet Wet's release in 1988. Both of their versions of the beloved classic reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Jewelry that stands the test of time usually has two things in common: It's easy to wear and versatile enough to work with what you already own. A delicate pendant necklace layered over a T-shirt, a pair of pearl earrings with a little black dress, or a simple bracelet stacked alongside your everyday watch — these are the types of accessories that will likely never leave your rotation.

And when it comes to classic jewelry, tennis bracelets are right up there with the greats. With that iconic row of sparkling stones and effortless elegance, the style has been a favorite for decades. If you’ve been wanting one of your own but are looking for something a little less traditional and more affordable than diamond-studded styles, the Colorful Crystal Tennis Bracelet at Anthropologie is currently marked down 34%, dropping the price from $38 to just $25.

Available in three colorways, this tennis bracelet puts a fresh spin on a classic silhouette. A slim strand of 14-karat yellow gold-plated brass is lined with an alternating arrangement of cubic zirconia stones in mixed shapes and sizes, creating a more organic, collected look than a traditional row of matching crystals. Round, oval, and emerald-cut stones are evenly spaced along the bracelet, giving the design dimension while allowing each facet to catch the light from a slightly different angle. Depending on which style you choose, the stones range from classic clear crystals to yellows, greens, and blues that add a fun pop of color without overwhelming the design.

Petite prong settings keep the profile light and airy, letting more light pass through each cubic zirconia for extra sparkle while maintaining a refined, barely-there feel on the wrist. The mixed-cut arrangement creates visual rhythm, giving the bracelet the appearance of a carefully curated heirloom rather than a perfectly uniform strand.

Measuring 6.5 inches long with a 1.5-inch extender, this bracelet is easy to adjust for your preferred fit. A secure lobster clasp keeps it comfortably in place, whether worn on its own for understated shine or layered alongside chain bracelets, bangles, and a watch. The slim silhouette makes it an effortless everyday piece, while the faceted stones bring just enough brilliance to transition seamlessly into dressier occasions.

Shoppers gushed over the “delicate” and “dainty” design of this “beautiful” and “versatile” bracelet. One reviewer wrote that it “goes with any outfit, adding that “the crystals shine in the sun” for a subtle sparkle.

Other shoppers highlighted the bracelet's “excellent quality,” with one person sharing that it “looks much more expensive than it is.”

Singer Behind One of the Decade's Most Emotional Country Hits Turns 43

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 12:15am

Few country songs have left a lasting impression quite like "If I Die Young."

Released in 2010 by The Band Perry, the emotional ballad became an instant hit, topping the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and crossing over to mainstream audiences around the world.

More than a decade later, the song remains closely associated with lead singer Kimberly Perry, who celebrates her birthday on July 12.

Born in Mississippi in 1983, Perry helped form The Band Perry with her brothers, Reid and Neil. The sibling trio quickly became one of country music's biggest breakout acts, blending traditional country influences with contemporary pop and rock sounds.

Their breakthrough arrived with "If I Die Young," a poignant reflection on life and mortality that resonated deeply with listeners. The song earned widespread critical acclaim, won CMA Song of the Year in 2011 and became one of the defining country hits of the decade.

The Band Perry followed that success with a string of fan favorites, including "You Lie," "All Your Life," "Better Dig Two" and "DONE.," helping establish the group as one of country music's most successful acts in the early 2010s.

Over the years, Perry has continued to evolve as an artist, exploring different musical styles while remaining connected to the song that introduced millions of listeners to her distinctive voice.

Even now, "If I Die Young" continues to find new audiences through streaming services and social media, where younger fans regularly discover the heartfelt ballad for the first time. Its enduring popularity is a testament to Perry's emotional vocal performance and the timeless songwriting that helped make it a modern country classic.

Almost No Artist Has More Top 10 Albums Than This Music Brand

Sun, 07/12/2026 - 12:00am

KIDZ BOP has become a staple for generations of families, but one of the brand's biggest accomplishments is something many music fans never realize.

Since launching in 2001, the family-friendly music brand has racked up an astonishing 24 Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart—a feat matched or surpassed by only three artists in music history: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Barbra Streisand.

The milestone places KIDZ BOP in remarkably exclusive company, alongside some of the most influential and best-selling acts of all time.

The brand was founded after two fathers working in the music industry noticed there wasn't much music geared specifically toward school-aged children. Songs for younger kids often felt too juvenile, while popular radio hits weren't always appropriate for families. Their solution was simple: Have kids perform family-friendly versions of today's biggest songs for other kids.

That idea has grown into a global phenomenon.

Over the past 25 years, KIDZ BOP has sold more than 24 million albums, generated more than 14 billion streams and released over 3,000 songs across more than 52 albums. The brand now records music in five languages and has amassed more than 7 billion YouTube views, while its annual KIDZ BOP LIVE tour continues to draw family audiences across the country.

Its success extends beyond recorded music, too. KIDZ BOP also holds a Guinness World Record as the youngest group to headline an arena after performing at Wembley Arena and reaches fans through music videos, school events, SiriusXM's KIDZ BOP Radio and year-round releases.

While comparisons to legendary artists may seem unexpected, the numbers tell a remarkable story. Thanks to decades of consistent chart success, KIDZ BOP has quietly earned a place among some of the biggest names ever to appear on the Billboard 200.
