Fans waiting to see the fallout from last week's Beyond the Gates anxiously were looking forward to the drama of their favorite soap opera continuing, but they will have to wait just a bit more, as the CBS series airs a week of repeats, but why? And when will new episodes return?

When Beyond the Gates was commissioned in 2024, the series order was only for 200 episodes. To extend the series and air new episodes throughout the year, it needed to air occasional repeats. This resulted in multiple weeks of the show going off air and replaying core event weeks for fans to experience once again.

In 2026, the series' episode order was increased, but only to add episodes in January and February. As a result, the series needs to take additional weeks off to last with new episodes throughout the year.

This week, Beyond the Gates is taking viewers back to the cotillion event.  Here are the episode descriptions and schedule for the week of June 29, 2026, through July 3, 2026.

For many fans, Labyrinth isn't just a beloved fantasy film. It's one of David Bowie's most unforgettable performances.

Jennifer Connelly reminded audiences of that legacy over the weekend as she celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1986 cult classic with a simple but nostalgic Instagram post.

"Happy 40th anniversary, Labyrinth," the 55-year-old actress captioned a carousel of photos from the film on June 27, 2026, including several featuring Bowie as the unforgettable Goblin King, Jareth.

Although Connelly starred as teenager Sarah Williams, who journeys through a magical maze to rescue her baby brother, many fans say Bowie's magnetic performance is what turned Labyrinth into a lasting pop culture phenomenon. His striking costumes, unmistakable hairstyle and original songs, including "Magic Dance," "As the World Falls Down" and "Underground", helped define the film's identity for generations of viewers.

Connelly's anniversary tribute quickly sparked a wave of nostalgic reactions from fans, many of whom focused less on the milestone itself.

"The best movie from my childhood, I often quote Ludo in the bog of eternal stench area," one fan wrote in the comments. "Thank you, Jennifer, for playing the part I always wanted to be. You have no power over me."

"Now I feel old!!!" another fan joked. "Such a classic movie, one I just had to introduce to my son."

"Girl, you and this movie are literally my personality," another comment reads. "My everything I’m turning 50 in September and still obsessed like I was 12."

When Labyrinth first hit theaters on June 27, 1986, it wasn't an immediate box office success. Over the decades, however, the Jim Henson-directed fantasy found new audiences through home video and television broadcasts, eventually earning its place as one of the most beloved cult films of the 1980s.

Bowie himself often spoke about the film's enduring appeal. Years after its release, he remarked that each Christmas a new generation of children would recognize him not as the rock legend behind hits like "Heroes" or "Let's Dance," but simply as the Goblin King.

Forty years later, Labyrinth continues to captivate new generations, with Bowie's unforgettable turn as Jareth remaining at the heart of its enduring legacy.

And judging by the flood of nostalgic reactions to Connelly's post, fans still haven't forgotten the magic.

It’s a universal truth: it never feels great to lose, whether it’s at a game or if you’ve lost some money in the stock market. According to one study, the psychological pain of losing is twice as powerful as the pleasure of winning. And if you think back to being a child, you might remember that a defeat felt even worse than it does now, especially as you’re growing and learning about the world.

As a parent or grandparent, it’s only natural to be concerned if your child or grandchild has a giant, emotional reaction to losing. But it's not necessarily abnormal.

“Most people don't enjoy losing—that's just human. So it's worth being careful not to read too much into any one reaction," Dr. Kendra Read, PhD, clinical psychologist and Vice President of Care Strategy and Delivery at Brightline, tells Parade. "You may notice some patterns with your child, or you may not. Either way, the adults around them can do a lot to support healthy coping along the way. You don't need to wait for a problem to show up.”

In other words? Whether your child has trouble with losing or not, Dr. Read shares helpful tips and tricks to help your child lose gracefully—or at least help them to look at it less negatively.

Dr. Read says that when a child completely loses it after a board game, it's often not just about the game. At the root of it, struggling to lose is really about struggling to manage big feelings. “And that is a work in progress for pretty much every child on the planet,” she states.

Plus, there might be a lot of inner turmoil we can't see—and the child can't express—so parents are left in the dark about all the very real reasons a kid threw a tantrum after a defeat.

“There's also a whole inner monologue happening that we don't always see,” she continues. “What is this kid telling themselves about the game? Are they focused on winning as the whole point, rather than just playing? Do they think losing means something about them, like, ‘I lost, therefore, I am a loser?’ Or maybe the stakes feel enormous to them socially, like their entire reputation on the playground is riding on this one round of Uno.”

A child’s personality is continually forming as they get older, but if your child struggles with losing games, you may notice that they sweat over other high-stakes moments, like a mistake on homework, “feeling like they let someone down, or worrying about being embarrassed,” Dr. Read says.

Also, it simply comes down to the fact that some kids feel things more intensely than others. 

“Parents shouldn’t catastrophize about what difficulty losing [inherently means] about their child,” she states. “They should pay attention to patterns across situations—that'll tell them far more than any single Monopoly meltdown. When patterns are noticed, they can focus more on interventions to help.”

So, when is it time to worry about your child’s reactions to losing games and beyond?

“If your child is melting down every time life doesn't go their way, that's worth paying attention to,” she explains. “It might be pointing to a bigger pattern with emotional regulation that's showing up across different situations. But if it's really just about losing games, and you're not seeing it bleed into other areas of their life, it might just be a standalone issue, not a red flag for something deeper.”

Dr. Read says that first, parents and grandparents should model being a good loser. 

“And that doesn't mean pretending you have no feelings when things don't go your way,” she says. “It means letting your kids see you experience disappointment and handle it.”

She also advises paying attention to how you talk about losing in general. 

“How do you talk about the team that lost the big game, or the candidate who lost the election? Kids are listening," she points out. "If losing always comes with a side of mockery or dismissal, that's the lesson they're absorbing. They look to you to learn how to think about people who lose.”

And also be cautious that you’re not always talking about winning and how important it is to win. For this, Dr. Read suggests widening your lens. 

“Talk about having fun, being a good teammate and enjoying the experience,” she shares. “The outcome is one small part of a much bigger picture. Yes, you can acknowledge who won and who lost, but then move on to the good stuff. ‘That throw to first base was amazing.’ ‘I was so proud of you when you helped that kid who fell.’ There are a hundred little moments inside any game that have nothing to do with the final score, and those are worth celebrating.” 

If your child continues to grapple with losses, there are ways to approach these moments.

“When the loss hits, and the feelings are big, try validating first," she notes. "'I get it, you're disappointed. I'd feel that way too.’ Then just—let it sit for a minute. Resist the urge to immediately tack on a 'but.' Every emotion is okay, even if every behavior isn't.”

She adds that if your child is someone who tends to have big reactions, consider setting a behavioral goal before the game even starts. Something like, "If you lose, I'm going to be watching for a safe body and kind words."

“Keep it simple, keep it specific and when they pull it off, reward them for it,” she states. “It's hard work. It deserves recognition.”

Kris Kristofferson had already written some of country music's greatest songs when he finally recorded the biggest hit of his own career.

Released in 1973, "Why Me" became an unexpected phenomenon, spending a combined 38 weeks on Billboard's country and pop charts. Built around a message of humility, gratitude and redemption, the heartfelt ballad resonated far beyond country music, evolving into one of the defining soft rock anthems of the decade.

The song emerged during a transformative period in Kristofferson's life.

Already celebrated as one of Nashville's most respected songwriters thanks to classics like "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "For the Good Times," Kristofferson wrote "Why Me" after a profound spiritual experience.

The deeply personal lyrics reflected themes of faith and grace, offering listeners one of the most intimate songs of his career.

"Everybody was kneeling down, and [Reverend] Jimmy [Snow] said something like, 'If anybody's lost, please raise their hand,'" Kristofferson said in an interview years later. "I was kneeling there. And I don't go to church a lot, and the notion of raising my hand was out of the question. I thought, 'I can't imagine who's doing this.' All of a sudden, I felt my hand going up. I was hoping nobody else was looking because they had their heads bent over."

Kristofferson's vulnerability paved the way for a truly inspiring experience.

"He said, 'If anybody is ready to accept Jesus,’'something like this, come down to the front of the church," he continued. "I thought that would never happen. And I found myself getting up and walking down with all these people. He said something to me like, 'Are you ready to accept Jesus Christ in your life?' And I said, 'I don’t know. I didn’t know what I was doing there.' He put me down, said, 'Kneel down.' I can’t even remember what he was saying but whatever it was was such a release for me that I found myself weeping in public. I felt this forgiveness that I didn’t know I needed."

From that step into faith, the song was born. Audiences immediately embraced its sincerity.

Released as the third single from Jesus Was a Capricorn, "Why Me" climbed to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. The song also crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, helping it spend an impressive 38 total weeks across the two charts and introducing Kristofferson's music to an even broader audience.

The success marked an important milestone for the singer-songwriter. Although Kristofferson had already established himself as one of Nashville's premier writers through hits recorded by Janis Joplin, Ray Price and Sammi Smith, "Why Me" became the recording most closely associated with his own voice. Its blend of country, gospel and soft rock influences allowed it to connect with listeners across multiple genres.

Over the decades, "Why Me" has been recorded by dozens of artists, including Elvis Presley, George Jones and Willie Nelson, while remaining a staple of classic country, gospel and soft rock radio. Its universal message has helped it endure long after its remarkable chart run came to an end.

"You just write about what you know about," Kristofferson said in a 1971 interview. "And when you're lucky, you write something that a lot of other people have experienced."

More than 50 years after its release, "Why Me" remains the defining recording of Kris Kristofferson's career. What began as a deeply personal expression of faith ultimately became one of the longest-charting ballads of the 1970s, proving that honesty and simplicity can leave the deepest impression.

One of the biggest hits of the 1980s didn't become a worldwide sensation until 17 years after it was first recorded.

When American soul singer Gloria Jones recorded "Tainted Love" in 1964, the song attracted little attention. Written by Ed Cobb and featuring future country music legend Glen Campbell on lead guitar, it was released as the B-side to Jones' 1965 single "My Bad Boy's Comin' Home" and failed to chart.

But the song refused to disappear.

Nearly a decade later, British DJ Richard Searling discovered the forgotten single during a trip to the United States and began playing it at Northern Soul clubs in England. Its driving beat and Motown-inspired sound made it a favorite on the dance floor, quietly giving the overlooked recording a second life among devoted fans.

That underground popularity eventually reached English synth-pop duo Soft Cell.

After their debut single failed to chart, the label gave Marc Almond and David Ball one final chance to score a hit. They chose to reinvent "Tainted Love," stripping away the original's soul arrangement in favor of a sparse, electronic sound that perfectly captured the emerging new wave movement. The gamble paid off.

Released in 1981, Soft Cell's version became an international sensation. It reached No. 1 in 17 countries, topped the UK Singles Chart, became one of the year's best-selling singles and spent a then record-breaking 43 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, where it eventually peaked at No. 8.

More than four decades later, Soft Cell's version remains the recording most listeners instantly recognize, even though it wasn't the original.

The song's influence has continued to grow. VH1 ranked it the No. 5 greatest one-hit wonder of the 1980s, while Rolling Stone included the extended "Tainted Love"/"Where Did Our Love Go" medley on its list of the 200 Greatest Dance Songs of All Time, praising the duo's ability to combine Northern Soul, 1960s pop and synth-driven new wave into "one almighty slab."

More recently, BBC Music Magazine ranked "Tainted Love" among the greatest cover versions ever recorded, noting how Soft Cell transformed Jones' little-known soul recording into one of the defining songs of the decade.

The song has since been covered by dozens of artists, including Marilyn Manson, and sampled by Rihanna on her 2006 hit "SOS." Yet it is Soft Cell's haunting interpretation that continues to define "Tainted Love" for generations of listeners.

More than 60 years after Gloria Jones first recorded the song, "Tainted Love" remains one of popular music's greatest reinventions, proving that sometimes an overlooked recording simply needs the right artist, the right sound and the right moment to become a classic.

KT Tunstall's song for Devil Wears Prada 2 never made it to the big screen, the singer told a festival crowd this past weekend.

"Do you want to know a wee secret? I did write a song for the second one," she told the crowd of the film at UK festival State Fayre. "I went for a meeting with them and they were like, 'What's your idea?'

The singer, whose 2005 hit "Suddenly I See" became synonymous with the original film as it opened the movie, explained how she was confirmed to write a song for the sequel and how it ultimately didn't make it in.

"I was like, 'Yeah, it's just 20 years later, and I might steal some of the lyrics from the original song, because no one's gonna sue me for using them, and I'll just do something rocket about it being 20 years later,' and they're like, 'Brilliant!' And I recorded, and they were like, 'Nah.' So, in a parallel better universe, this is the song [for] Devil Wears Prada 2.

The song, entitled "Look at Me Now," elicited cheers from festival goers and delighted commenters of MagicFM's post, which captured the footage of the singer giving the song's backstory, with many requesting she release the track anyway.

"If you don’t hear @kttunstall when someone says The Devil Wears Prada, we can’t be friends," one said. "'Nah' back at them."

"Please release it!" said another. "The original opening was iconic. Major loss for them that they went another way. This song fits so much better!"

"When I left the movie I said they should have brought you back too!" a third said.

Upon the sequel's release, Tunstall reflected on the success of "Suddenly I See" thanks to the film that also starred Meryl Streepand Stanley Tucci.

“It’s just a thrill,” she told Elle Magazine in May. “All of a sudden, one of your songs gets chosen to be elevated into Hollywood. And not only that, but it’s the opening of now a complete cult classic.”

Tunstall is currently on tour in the US and recently released her album, Eye to the Telescope: Stargazer Edition which celebrates the 20th anniversary of her first album.

Kim Kardashian's sultry and sexy propaganda for her SKIMS brand is taking a back seat. Will Ferrell appears in a new campaign for the brand while also promoting his upcoming Netflix series, The Hawk.

It appears that Kim enjoys a good laugh, giving Ferrell the spotlight in their latest campaign to not only promote their men's underwear line, but also the actor's new series. The video reveals Ferrell portraying his washed-up golfer character, Lonnie "The Hawk," shirtless and in a pair of SKIMS underwear.

Farmer's tan and all, Lonnie gets the perfect swing, with Kim's voiceover being the cherry on top, saying, "His body says retire. His SKIMS say one more round. Built for men who still know they got it."

The voiceover is reminiscent of the official logline for The Hawk, with the comedy series focusing on Lonnie Hawkins during a career comeback. A former 2004 No. 1 pro golfer, he struggles to recapture the magic that made him a sports star.

"His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife and his son Lance, golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history," reads the logline, according to Variety.

The series also stars Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby. With a set release date of July 16, fans are stunned to see Ferrell commit to the bit and call the campaign "iconic."

"Did not have Will Ferrell wearing Skims on my 2026 bingo card. Well played marketing team," said one fan on Instagram.

Another added, "Yup. this is everything we wanted and more."

The campaign doesn't end with one video, as the official SKIMS Instagram also posted photos of Ferrell as his character sporting the same underwear, but this time with a tank top. Golf club and sports bottle in hand, it's clear that Lonnie "knows he’s still got it."

Ferrell and Kim have recently developed a bond and friendship as they both star in the upcoming comedy film, The Fifth Wheel. Produced and starring Kim, it will also be directed by Eva Longoria and has Ferrell as one of its producers. The film is set to be released on Netflix.

Linda Gray rose to stardom in the role of Sue Ellen Ewing on Dallas, but the TV icon's most terrifying moment happened while she was playing a theatrical role.

Gray, 85, who rocked Dallas for 14 seasons in her famous role alongside Larry Hagman, recently did an interview with the popular Celebrity Drop podcast in which she recalled her most "terrifying" moment on stage. While she was playing the iconic role of Mrs. Robinson in a production of The Graduate, Gray was left to stand alone naked in front of theatre-goers, PEOPLE reported.

While she rehearsed "with a towel," Gray had to drop the towel for the final rehearsal and the live production. However, the actor who played her husband in the play was supposed to appear during her nude scene. However, he didn't.

"Murder was on my mind," Gray recalled of how angry she was when she was left onstage, alone and naked.

"There was a line that I said, 'Okay, Mr. Robinson is here [or] something.' And, um, and he didn't appear and I was just like... so I said the next line very loudly like, no, maybe he's not hearing and still nothing and I'm still standing there naked," Gray recalled.

"Then I thought okay, the heck with him I'm going to go backstage and he's going to have to figure something out because now nobody's on stage and anyway it was very, very tricky when that scene ended when Mr. Robinson finally arrived on stage and and then finally the scene was over. For the first time in four years, one of The History Channel's signature documentary franchises is back.

Modern Marvels, the network's longest-running original series, returns on Monday, July 27, with a new three-part event titled Modern Marvels: WWII. The limited series marks the franchise's first new episodes since 2022 and continues a television legacy that stretches back more than 30 years.

Premiering at 10 p.m. ET on July 27, the new installment examines World War II through the lens of engineering and technological innovation, exploring how the race to build bigger, faster and more powerful machines reshaped both the war and the modern world.

First launched in 1993 before becoming a History Channel staple in 1995, Modern Marvels has produced more than 650 episodes covering everything from engineering and architecture to manufacturing, transportation and everyday technology. Along the way, it became the network's longest-running original series and one of its defining nonfiction brands.

Although the show was revived in 2021 after several years off the air, its most recent original episodes debuted in 2022, making Modern Marvels: WWII the franchise's first new installment in four years.

The three-part event focuses on the technological breakthroughs that helped shape World War II.

The premiere, "Super Weapons," explores innovations including Britain's Bouncing Bomb and Grand Slam bomb, America's B-29 Superfortress and Germany's enormous Gustav Gun.

On Aug. 3, viewers will get two new episodes back-to-back. "Mega Builds" examines massive wartime engineering projects, including the Pentagon, the Maginot Line and some of the conflict's largest infrastructure efforts. The final installment, "Gears and Gadgets," looks at inventions ranging from the bazooka and cavity magnetron radar to the Enigma code machine and early night-vision technology.

According to History, the series examines how wartime urgency accelerated scientific breakthroughs that continue to influence military technology, engineering and everyday life decades later.

New episodes will also become available to stream the day after they air through the History Channel app, History.com and participating TV providers' on-demand platforms.

For Beatles fans, this is the discovery of a lifetime.

Footage from the Beatles' first-ever appearance on the British TV institution Top of the Pops in 1964 has resurfaced, clips devotees have long hailed as the 'holy grail' of Beatlemania.

The film preservation group Film is Fabulous! announced it had recovered a complete 35mm reel of the Fab Four's March 19, 1964 performance at the BBC's Television Theatre in London. During their appearance, the band ran through their now iconic hits Can't Buy Me Love and You Can't Do That just a day before the two songs arrived as a single.

Beatles fans celebrated the discovery across social media, with many calling it a once-in-a-generation find. "Wasn't this the Holy Grail of Beatles footage?" one person wrote.

Another commented, "This is truly incredible. Here we are in 2026, and a presumed lost Beatles film is being found. This really is absolutely super Fab news!"

Others echoed the excitement, with one fan writing, "This is fantastic!" while another added, "This is so wonderful! Just when we think we have everything Beatles, something wonderful and new appears."

The reel captures the session in full, four grainy takes of Can't Buy Me Love, and two of You Can't Do That banter and bloopers included. It was handed to the group by the family of a late industry professional. The original 35mm film will now be restored and returned to the BBC archives. Film is Fabulous! confirmed the news on social media. 

For decades, that footage was thought gone for good. The BBC had wiped and reused the original tape, as it routinely did at the time, leaving behind only grainy fragments and negatives over the past 60 years, as per Page Six.

There are charming moments throughout. John Lennon snuck one in during the second take of You Can't Do That pulling a funny face as a camera pushed in for a close-up. "During breaks, the Beatles openly joked, and could be seen dancing to amuse themselves," the group said, as reported by Guitar.com.

A cultural mainstay across the pond, Top of the Pops became famous for its "live" performances, with bands lip-syncing their biggest hits.

Exactly when the public will get to watch the rediscovered footage is still unknown, though Film is Fabulous! said talks are underway to make it available to a wide audience. The timing is fitting.

The joyful discovery arrived amid the buzz surrounding Global Beatles Day, June 25, when Apple Corps debuted a colorized version of the band's BBC broadcast of All You Need Is Love online for the first time, according to the official Beatles website.

Elton John's back catalogue is full of emotional and personal songs, but none more than 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight'. In fact, the song was so emotional, Elton fought to edit it down for the radio.

Taken from John's 1975 album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, the track was released as a single on 20 June 1975, and was the only single from the iconic album. The song addresses John's attempted suicide.

At 6 minutes and 45 seconds, "'Someone Saved My Life Tonight' was twice as long as a typical single but one of Elton's shorter tracks at the time. Due to the personal nature of the lyrics, John fought the record label who wanted to edit the song down to a more suitable length for radio airplay.

In the summer of 1970, Elton John nearly married Linda Woodrow. He knew it wasn't right, but two years into the relationship he didn't know how to call off his upcoming wedding.

After a night out with blues singer Long John Baldry and long-time collaborator Bernie Taupin, he went home and called it off.

“I was devastated. My whole family was feeling for me, because they were expecting a wedding,” Linda told The Record about her break-up. “I suppose I just carried on and put it down to an experience. As he got more and more famous, I thought, ‘Wow.’ It was incredible. I never at that time imagined he would be who he is today.”

Before building up the courage to leave Linda, the pianist once tried to asphyxiate himself with a gas oven. Thankfully for all his fans, the kitchen window was wide open, making the attempt unsuccessful.

His ex, Linda, told Mirror in 2019 that she and Taupin “found him lying with his head in the gas oven with the window wide open. At the time he said it was because his music career wasn’t taking off as quickly as he hoped. He was in one of his big depressions.”

Later, John opened up about the experience in a piece for The Guardian, writing, “I really had staged a completely ridiculous suicide bid that involved sticking my head in a gas oven. Rather than tell my fiancée I’d made a mistake, that was my brilliant plan to try and get out of the wedding.”

Taupin wrote about the experience in 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight.' The lyrics reflect John's desperation in that period of time.

“And someone saved my life tonight, sugar bear (sugar bear) / You almost had your hooks in me, didn’t you, dear?” Elton sings on the 1975 track. “You nearly had me roped and tied / Altar-bound, hypnotized, sweet freedom whispered in my ear.”

While Linda doesn't harbor resentment toward her ex, she admitted she was "disappointed" by the lyrics. “It was Bernie that actually wrote the words. Bernie has probably said more negative things than Reg has. I mean, unbelievable things that were said. In some of the songs, I was very hurt."

If June is already pulling the plug on Europe's most iconic landmarks, it begs the question: Should you call off your July and August trips entirely—and is it officially time to skip the Mediterranean altogether and book a "coolcation" instead?

Before you cancel your flights, here's how to realistically navigate the rest of the summer season safely.

The sudden chaos wasn't a fluke; meteorologists pinned the extreme spike on an "Omega block"—a stubborn weather pattern that essentially traps an intense dome of hot air over a single region for days on end. As temperatures climbed, infrastructure across Europe quickly began to buckle under the strain:

• Widespread Transit and School Closures: The heat physically threatened the rails, forcing the cancellation of roughly one in 10 trains across the Paris region due to tracks warping in the sun. It even disrupted education, with France shuttering 845 schools in a single day at the peak of the spike.
• Museum and Ceremony Blackouts: The disruptions rippled far beyond France. In Italy, 16 cities were placed under maximum heat alerts, and Florence’s world-famous Uffizi Gallery was forced to temporarily halt ticket sales entirely when its air conditioning system failed. Even London had to scale back its iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony after logging its warmest June day on record.

While the heat dome has finally moved along, the sheer scale of the disruptions shows that Europe's peak summer tourism infrastructure isn't fully equipped for the new climate reality.

• Flip Your Daily Clock: Throw out the traditional 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. sightseeing window. Book the absolute first ticket slots of the morning (typically 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) for open-air landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Plan to be entirely out of the sun and indoors—ideally at an air-conditioned museum, a shaded restaurant, or your hotel—by 1:00 p.m.
• Book Directly to Secure Refunds: If a historic landmark is forced into an emergency closure due to a sudden heat spike, third-party ticket resellers can be a nightmare to deal with for compensation. Always book tickets directly through official monument websites (like the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower), which trigger automatic refunds to your card if operations are cut short.
• Monitor Local Transit and "Ozone Zones": Extreme heat routinely buckles rail lines and prompts cities like Paris to enforce emergency speed limits and transit restrictions. Before you leave your hotel, download local transport apps (such as Île-de-France Mobilités) to check for heat-related delays or reroutes before you get stranded on a sweltering platform.

If you are traveling during peak summer heat waves, look specifically into a policy with a "Cancel For Any Reason" upgrade. It gives you the ultimate financial safety net to pull the plug on the trip before you fly out if the forecast looks dangerously hot.
• Listen to Your Body—and Give Yourself Permission to Opt Out: At the end of the day, no monument or bucket-list itinerary is worth risking your health. Extreme, triple-digit heat strains the cardiovascular system much faster than we realize, especially for older adults. If record-breaking temperatures hit during your vacation, give yourself total permission to sit the day out in the hotel AC, skip the tour, or even head home early. Taking care of yourself is always the right call.

Who would have thought a sports romantasy would work? The Winged Game by Sophie Kim offers the perfect balance between all the various genres meshed together, creating a story that is both thrilling and engaging.

This is more than just a sports romantasy. There’s a mystery within the tale, as well as deep character development that creates the need for The Winged Game’s universe to grow with sequels.

The Winged Game starts off with the enemies-to-lovers trope. We immediately find out why Taissa Cho was kicked out of the sport she loved and was making a career in, but it’s clear that there is much more to this story. It’s no wonder Cho turns into a bitter shell of herself, as people focus on her cheating and not the full truth behind it.

Meanwhile, Kion Locke and his team, The Stymphs, are struggling. They have gone from one of the best teams in the Major Leagues of Carriwitchet to the very bottom of the Minor Leagues. Locke is sure that the only way out is to get Cho onto the team, but that brings its own problems. Of course, there are concerns that a “cheater” is joining the team, and there are questions about the two of them in a romantic relationship, leading to the fake dating trope as well.

However, The Winged Game is more than just a slow-burn romance or a story about a team getting back to the top. There’s a mysterious illness affecting all the winged creatures in the story — each team has its own winged creature — and there’s a story of curses and betrayal. Mixed with that, we have the bonding of humans and their winged creatures, bringing up stories of abuse and betrayal and how the love and understanding of one person can help.

Chronos quickly became my favorite character, and the banter between him and Cho made me chuckle a lot. I also loved his offhand remarks, especially about eating his own children, as you could tell that he had to keep up the facade of being a grumpy and dangerous beast the more he warmed up to everyone as they started to treat him better.

Cho and Locke had their own traumatic backstories that suddenly came out, and the Stymphs have a wonderful found-family vibe that has been fractured over time but has its own chance to heal. I would love novellas of each of the team members, as they all have their own trauma and pasts that they’re running from, creating a wealth of storylines to come in the future.

The magical world has also been deeply developed. We get a great understanding of the glyphs that are used, as well as the different types of magical creatures and demigods. It’s another way that The Winged Games can develop into a larger series of books, developing the relationships between the different creatures with another magical mystery that affects others.

In fact, it was the mystery that I felt drawn to. This helped to open the world of magic, allowing us to understand more about curses, the past Witching Wars, the bond and rules with the creatures, and the different magical beings. There is depth to the hatred among different creatures, but there is also understanding and a level of acceptance when it comes to the right personality and attitude toward differences. I could see more mysteries that lead to these different worlds coming together, with the creatures having to cross the bridges of their differences to get to the bottom of things.

I also found myself rooting for the slow-burn romance — which transformed at the perfect spot for a slow-burn — but didn’t quite find it as a true enemies-to-lovers. It’s clear that while they were “enemies,” there was something more to that tale, and I’d love to get a little more of that backstory. Sometimes, there were hints of where the “enemies” part started, but it wasn’t quite enough to understand the buildup to Kion turning Cho in for “cheating.”

One thing The Winged Game does highlight is the fickle nature of sports supporters and social media followers. As so many turn against Cho when they think they know the truth, they’re quick to uncancel her when they find out the realities of the story. Nothing is done or said to address this among the team, and I think it’s a small downside. Not enough to wipe out any stars, because that isn’t the true tale of the book, but I would love to see a discussion about it.

The Winged Game is perfect for those who want Fourth Wing but with sports and mystery. It’s great for Harry Potter fans who love the Quidditch parts of the story, and it’s a must for those who are ready to mix sports romance with fantasy. This is easily a 5-star read!

Changes for the Chmerkovskiys keep coming.

In an announcement shared to Instagram on Monday, former Dancing with the Stars pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd shared that they've moved to Florida.

"We did it… we moved to Florida," they announced in a fun video that first looked like a cheeky pregnancy announcement. "Leaving behind the place we’d called home for so many years wasn’t easy, but sometimes the biggest leaps lead you exactly where you’re meant to be."

While it's unclear when the family of five actually relocated from where they were living in Los Angeles, the post's caption alluded to the fact that they've been settling in.

"The happiness, the slower pace, the sunshine, watching our boys love every second of it… it’s everything we hoped for and more," they wrote in their joint post. "Worth every box. Every goodbye. Every unknown."

"No looking back… only looking forward," they concluded.

While tons of followers congratulated them on their new chapter, their fellow former DWTSpro and Murgatroyd's podcast co-host Sharna Burgess also showed her support.

"Love you miss you and I love this for you and the fam," she wrote. "It looks good on you babe, coming to visit soon!"

Other former contestants from the ballroom dance competition show including Candace Cameron Bure,Rumer Willis, and Teresa Giudice also sent their well wishes.

Chmerkovskiy, who won the Mirrorball Trophy with his Season 18 partner Meryl Davis, left the show after Season 25. Murgatroyd, who won twice with Donald Driver and Nyle DiMarco left after Season 32.

Murgatroyd has gone on to host a podcast with Burgess entitled, Penthouse with Peta.

The dancers' announcement comes just after Chmerkovskiy's brother, and DWTS pro, Val announced that he and his wife, also a DWTS staple, Jenna Johnson, just bought a house.

FollowingJimi Hendrix's death at age 27 in 1970, his first posthumous album introduced fans to "Angel," a poignant ballad he had begun writing years earlier. Released in 1971, the song went on to become one of Hendrix's most beloved recordings, earning acclaim as a standout in his catalog and a lasting classic.

"Angel" was released on the posthumous album The Cry For Love, and was one of the ten selected by drummer Mitch Mitchell and Eddie Kramer. That same month, it was released as a single in the U.K., and as the B-side to "Freedom" in the U.S. While having not enter the charts independently, "Angel" did land at No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a B-side track.

The ballad was originally worked on by Hendrix years before it was released with Mitchell in 1967, while also working on the track "Little Wing." Hendrix would finish penning the lyrics a year later, but wouldn't fully finish the track for two years and shelved it. It wasn't until 1970, when Hendrix, Mitchell, and bassist Billy Cox were working on his fourth studio album, that they reintroduced "Angel."

Hendrix has always been known as a "dreamer," taking inspiration from the real world and from his own dreams. The title of "Angel" was inspired by a dream he had as a child about his mother, Lucille. Sadly, she passed away when Hendrix was in his teen years, and only fueled the emotion behind the ballad.

“My mother was bein’ carried away on this camel. And there was a big caravan, she’s sayin’, ‘Well, I’m gonna see you now,’ and she’s goin’ under these trees, you could see the shade, you know, the leaf patterns across her face when she was goin’ under … She’s sayin’, ‘Well, I won’t be seein’ you too much anymore, you know.
