'Outlander' Ending Explained: Does Jamie Die in the Finale?
WARNING! This article spoils the events of Outlander Season 8, now available for streaming in its entirety on Starz. Please do not read further if you do not intend to know what happens in the series finale.
After eight seasons and 12 years, Outlander officially ended with Season 8, Episode 10. But does Jamie Fraser die in the series finale? And what does the ending really mean?
Let's take a deep dive into what happened to Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in the series based on the books written by Diana Gabaldon.
At the end of Season 8, Episode 9, Benjamin Cleveland (Turlough Convery) stopped by Jamie and Claire's house. "The time has come, Fraser," he declared. "Ferguson is on the march in North Carolina. Gather your men, all you can get... You owe me, Fraser. You said so yourself."
The dreaded Battle of Kings Mountain had arrived, and Jamie was left with little choice but to join Cleveland and accept his fate—his death during the battle, according to what Frank (Tobias Menzies) wrote in his book. But did Jamie actually die? Or did he and Claire somehow change the course of history?
Did Jamie Die in the Outlander Finale? View this post on InstagramLong story short: Yes, Jamie died in the Outlander Season 8 finale. Or, at least he did for a while.
In Season 8, Episode 10, titled "And the World Was All Around Us," fans were deeply concerned about Jamie. Things didn't start out too promising, as it kicked off with Jamie writing his will.
The patriots ultimately won the Battle of Kings Mountain, just as they did in real life. When their victory over the loyalists was clear, Claire saw that Jamie was alive (after narrowly knocking Major Patrick Ferguson off his horse right at the end). She pointed out that Frank was wrong in his book, kissed Jamie, and then left to tend to the wounded.
After the battle was won, Jamie went to seek an official surrender from Ferguson, who declared, "I will never surrender," before shooting an unsuspecting Jamie. (The patriots promptly shot and killed Ferguson in retaliation.) Immediately, Claire could sense that Jamie was gravely injured and ran back to him.
As Jamie lay bleeding to death, he told Claire, "I'm not afraid."
"No, I am not going to sit here and watch you die," she vowed, to which Jamie said with his dying breaths, "Forgive me, Sassenach."
Claire stayed by Jamie's body all night and into the next morning. Finally, Roger (Richard Rankin) came to retrieve her and gently make her face the reality that Jamie was dead. "It's time to bury him, Claire," he told her. "Let's take him home."
Claire, consumed by her grief, did not answer, but continued resting her body over Jamie's
"He is home," she insisted, after Roger walked away. She then lay next to Jamie on the ground and closed her eyes.

Outlander Ending, Explained View this post on InstagramAt the very end of Outlander Season 8, Episode 10, the scene switched to Jamie watching Claire through the window in the rain—just as he did all those years ago in Season 1 when Frank saw his ghost.
After disappearing when Frank approached him, Jamie arrived at Craigh na Dun and touched the stone. Purplish-blue forget-me-nots magically appeared at its base—the same ones Claire found that would cause her to time-travel for the first time.
A flashback of Jamie and Claire's lives together played. Afterward, the final scene showed Claire still lying next to Jamie's body after he died at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This time, however, her hair was completely white. This was a callback to the prophecy a Cherokee healer made in Season 4 that Claire would reach her full power when her hair turns completely white.
In the last moments, they both suddenly gasped and opened their eyes, and the screen went black—implying that Jamie and Claire both lived.
What Does 'Slàinte Mhath' Mean in the Outlander Finale? After the final scene, Outlander displayed a message to viewers.
"Thank you to our Fans," it read. "Your unwavering support made this journey possible. Slàinte mhath."
In Scottish Gaelic, "slàinte mhath" means "good health," and is often used in toasts, similarly to "cheers."
Is there a post-credits scene in the Outlander finale? 'Outlander' author Diana Gabaldon makes a special Barnes & Noble in-store appearance at The Grove on May 31, 2015, in Los Angeles, Calif. (Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty Images)Yes! For those who stayed through the credits, the Outlander Season 8 finale had a post-credit scene featuring a cameo from Gabaldon herself. It featured people standing in line at a bookstore while waiting for an author at a book signing.
A woman asked her to sign a copy of Outlander for her daughter, Karen. She then asked Gabaldon about a journal she spotted on the table.
"Uh, well. It's just a wee bit of inspiration," the author replied, jokingly suggesting that Gabaldon plagiarized the entire story from Claire's journal.
Outlander is available to stream in its entirety on Starz.

Beloved 2000s Rock Band Releases Surprise New Track
Popular 2000s rock band The Maine is putting the finishing touches on their recently released 10th studio album, Joy Next Door.
The Arizona emo band — John O’Callaghan, Kennedy Brock, Jared Monaco, Garrett Nickelsen, and Pat Kirch — quietly dropped Parking Garage Song #5, an acoustic-forward song that honors the five-piece's almost two-decade-long career.
Formed in Tempe in 2007, the group has enjoyed a string of commercial successes. Their second album, Black & White, reached the top 20 on the Billboard 200 chart, while several records, including 2017's Lovely Little Lonely and 2019's You Are Okay, reached the top ten in the Billboard Top Rock Album chart.
The band said that the recording of Joy Next Door felt like "a marathon," and they spent months on end trying to "perfect" every song to create an album that they are extremely proud of.
"During that process there was a tune we kept circling back to, that for whatever reason wouldn’t quite fully materialize even though we all felt it’s magic," they explained in a press release. "The song spoke to what those obscure and ever-evolving four numbers in 8123 have meant to all of us for well over 20 years now. We were certain we couldn’t release it into the world until it was exactly how we heard it in our heads, so over the past few weeks on tour we finally realized and finished Parking Garage Song #5."
The AP Magazine Readers' Award winners emphasized that this would not be a deluxe edition of the album with an additional bonus track, but instead, the fully-evolved album that they had intended to create and share with their fanbase — the 8123 family.
View this post on InstagramHaving recently wrapped up the mammoth "I Love You, But I Chose The Maine" tour across North America, with special guests such asMikey Way of My Chemical Romance and Charlotte Sands, the rockers announced that they will be heading back on tour across summer and fall on the "The Tour Next Door" tour, which will feature a two-set format.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Agent Believes There's a Reason Annie Guthrie, Tommaso Cioni Are 'Laying Low'
Nancy Guthrie has been missing for more than 100 days and, while the investigation is still ongoing, several questions about her disappearance remain.
On Thursday, May 14, retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer pointed to reports that Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Annie's husband, Tommaso Cioni, "have not been seen." In a post on X, Coffindaffer works through the reasons that the two may be staying out of the public eye.
"Why are they laying low?" Coffindaffer wondered, saying she thinks it's due to "obvious concern over ridicule." She went on to give additional reasons why Annie and Cioni might be staying quiet.

Some have reported that Annie & Tomasso have not been seen.
I personally checked the BASIS Oro Valley school where Tomasso teaches 6th grade biology. I do not see his name listed as a teacher but perhaps he has taken leave or perhaps the school is concerned… pic.twitter.com/bPeKErvSZP
"Defamation suits: In most states, including Arizona, one has to prove that a falsehood was made, such as being accused of a crime, and that the person(s) suffered damage," Coffindaffer continued, before listing off said damages.
She also pointed out that a lot of people still suspect that Annie and Cioni have something to do with Nancy's disappearance. Many people have been critical of the couple, especially Cioni, who hasn't spoken out at all since his mother-in-law went missing. Both Annie and her husband were cleared in the case by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
Nancy was last seen by her daughter and son-in-law, as she had dinner at their home on Saturday, Jan. 31. After dinner, Sheriff Nanos said that Cioni drove Nancy back to her home, about 10 minutes away.
Anyone with information about what might have happened to Nancy is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI). A reward of more than $1 million remains in place.

How did Kelly Reilly become famous? While many people are only just now becoming aware of Kelly Reilly with her leading role in Yellowstone, she has been steadily working as an actress since the mid-'90s. Her first role was in the Helen Mirren-starring crossover hit Prime Suspect, in which she appeared in the fourth season in 1995.
From there, Reilly found great success in theater productions, including Elton John’s Glasses in 1997, The London Cuckolds in 1998, The Graduate in 2000 and Piano/Forte in 2006. She scored a major theatrical boon when she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress of 2003 for her performance in After Miss Julie at the Donmar Warehouse at age 26, making her the youngest actress to be nominated for the award.
She continued to work in film and TV, appearing opposite Helen Mirren again in 2001’s Last Orders. By 2005, her profile was rising as she found roles in major movies like Mrs. Henderson Presents alongside Judi Dench and Pride & Prejudice alongside Kiera Knightley. That same year, she won the Best Newcomer Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as Wendy in The Russian Dolls (Les Poupées Russes).
Kelly Reilly Movies and TV ShowsShe landed her first leading role in 2008’s Eden Lake, a horror film. However, it was 2009 that would truly be a breakthrough year for the actress. It was then that she landed roles in the British primetime series Above Suspicion and in three major movies: Sherlock Holmes (playing the love interest of Jude Law’s character), Triage and Me and Orson Welles. In 2011, she appeared in the sequel to 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The following year, she appeared as Denzel Washington’s love interest in Flight, even though the actor was 58 and she was 35 at the time. In 2015, she appeared in HBO’s True Detective Season 2.

The Genius Way To Make Concealer Look 10x Better for Women Over 50
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
If you've ever applied concealer under your eyes and watched it migrate directly into every fine line within the hour, you're not doing anything wrong—you're just doing it the way you've always done it, without accounting for the fact that mature skin plays by completely different rules. Life!
Concealer is one of those products that can either make you look more awake and polished than you have any right to at 7 a.m., or it can draw a detailed map of every crease around your eyes by noon. The difference between those two outcomes isn't really about which concealer you buy. It's almost entirely about what you do before you apply it.
The under-eye area is genuinely one of the more demanding canvases in makeup. The skin there is thinner than anywhere else on the face, it moves constantly every time you blink or make an expression, and it loses moisture faster than the rest of your skin does.
Add the fact that most concealers contain water that evaporates throughout the day—taking the formula's structure with it—and you start to understand why settling and creasing aren't random. They're physics. They're going to happen unless you actively build a routine that works against them.
The good news is that the fix isn't complicated, and it doesn't require spending a fortune on new products. It mostly requires slowing down, doing a few minutes of prep and understanding a little bit about why your concealer does what it does.
For the specifics, we talked to Katie Mellinger, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Sofia Coppola, Maya Hawke, Emma Watson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Beatriz, and she has expertise in mature skin application. What she's shared is the kind of practical, no-nonsense advice that makes you want to completely redo your routine from scratch—in the best way.
How To Apply Concealer on Mature Skin: Genius Trick from Makeup ArtistIt's all about less product, and more intention. Mellinger's approach starts before the brush even touches your face: she puts a small amount of concealer on the back of her hand, swirls her brush in it to distribute the product evenly, then applies it in stippling motions rather than dragging or swiping.
"Less is always more, and you can build up slowly," she tells Parade.
Her tool of choice is the BK Beauty Hot & Flashy A506 Concealer Brush, whose angled "kitten paw" shape lets her work precisely around the eye without losing sight of what she's doing.
"You can keep the brush at an angle away from the eye so you can see exactly what you're doing," she explains. That level of control matters enormously when you're working with a thin, delicate area where a little too much product in the wrong spot makes a visible difference.
Related: 15 Best Body Lotions for Aging Skin (Dermatologist Tested)
Where Should You Apply Concealer for a Lifting Effect? Here's where Mellinger offers a take that might surprise you: she doesn't actually think concealer is the right tool for lifting. That's more of a highlight and contour conversation, and on mature skin she'd address it with foundation rather than concealer.
Concealer is genuinely for coverage under the eye, and placement matters more than most people realize. "You will see the darkest spots run along the orbital bone, with the darkest point being on the lower inner corner," she explains.
She concentrates the most product there and along the orbital bone, deliberately avoiding the area just beneath the center of the eye. Her focus is the hollow pocket on the inner orbital bone and the bottom outer edge. Applying concealer in a targeted way rather than flooding the entire under-eye area is one of the simplest changes that produces an immediate, noticeable improvement.

How Do You Prep Mature Under-Eye Skin Before Applying Concealer? This is the step most people rush, and it's the one that determines everything that comes after. Mellinger's starting rule: wait at least five to ten minutes after skincare before touching concealer. The skin needs time to actually absorb what you've applied, or your concealer is going on top of a slippery surface and will move accordingly.
The counterintuitive part is what she says about eye cream. The rich, occlusive formulas most people use at night—the ones that feel most luxurious—are actually the enemy of concealer longevity. "I know this feels counter-intuitive," she says, "but for makeup prep, you want to avoid the heavy, occlusive eye creams that you use at night. These tend to cause more slippage."
Her preference for daytime makeup prep is a hydrating serum under the eye instead, followed by a primer on top once the serum has absorbed.
And if even that feels like too many steps, she has a simpler path: skip the eye cream entirely and use a hydrating primer as the single prep step. The e.l.f. Power Grip is her recommendation here because it contains both water and niacinamide, doing double duty as hydrator and primer in one.
Related: The 7 Best Concealers for Mature Skin, According to Celebrity Makeup Artists
Why Does Concealer Settle Into Fine Lines?According to Mellinge, three things are happening all at once. First, any liquid formula naturally gets drawn into creases and grooves the same way water finds the lowest point of a surface.
Second, every blink and expression flexes the skin around the eye, which shifts and concentrates the concealer in the folds—"similar to how paint cracks on a surface that keeps moving," she explains.
Third, most concealers contain water that evaporates throughout the day, and as it does, the formula loses its structure and the remaining product migrates directly into fine lines.
All three of these issues compound with age because the lines are more present and mature skin retains moisture less effectively. Understanding this is actually empowering because it tells you exactly what to work against. The more you know!
Related: 11 Best Eyeshadows for Mature Skin, According to Celebrity Makeup Artists
What Concealer Mistakes Should You Avoid Over 50?The biggest one: reaching for more product when coverage isn't landing the way you want it to. It feels like the logical fix, but it's the opposite of what works. "The more product you use, the more product there is to pile into fine lines," Mellinger says.
The right approach is to decide what level of coverage you actually need and then use the absolute minimum amount of the right product to get there. Restraint is the skill.
How Do You Keep Concealer From Creasing All Day?Getty
Everything connects back to prep—the right primer, the right concealer formula and avoiding anything too occlusive under the eye. Setting powder helps, but Mellinger is emphatic about using the smallest possible amount with a very fluffy brush. More powder means more product to settle, which is the opposite of what you're trying to accomplish.
The formula relationship between your primer and your concealer matters more than most people know. Water-based concealers need water-based primers. Silicone-based concealers need silicone-based primers. Mixing the two creates a compatibility problem that no amount of technique can fix.

What Should Women Do Instead for More Defined, Flattering Results?Mellinger's three concealer picks each solve a different version of the problem, and knowing which one matches your routine makes all the difference.
For a natural finish with full prep, she loves Tower 28's Swipe Concealer paired with the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer—water-based on water-based, applied after serum and a full wait time. If you want something more forgiving that doesn't require flawless prep, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye is her pick. It's wax-based, which sidesteps the water evaporation issue entirely and is "dummy proof," as she puts it—forgiving even when prep isn't perfect, though she does recommend a light setting powder afterward given its luminous finish.
And if the whole multi-step process sounds like too much before 8 a.m., she has an answer for that too. "If all of this is just too overwhelming," she says, "the best concealer out there is HAUS Labs Triclone Skin Tech Concealer." Its silicone resin base self-sets seconds after blending, locking the formula in place before it has a chance to migrate—no setting powder required, no compatibility math, just a natural finish that stays put.
Her words: "You get a natural finish without the need for a setting powder." That's the dream.

Trader Joe’s New Shrimp Chips Are Dividing Shoppers
There’s a new seafood sensation in town, and you won’t find it in Trader Joe’s frozen food aisles. While beloved buys such as the Argentinian Red Shrimp with Ginger Garlic Butter and the Sesame Crusted Hardwood Smoked Ahi Tuna are already fan faves, a new fishy find has recently found its way to store shelves—and shoppers aren’t sure how to feel.
TJ’s quietly rolled out the brand’s Garlic Shrimp Chips this week, and the from-the-sea snack is getting interesting reviews. Some shoppers are already obsessed with the brand-new buy, evidenced by the comments on a recent Trader Joe’s subreddit post. One Reddit user raved, “I’m SO picky about shrimp chips and I LOVE these! Tried them for the first time today.” A store employee posted, “Crew here, we had them in the break room today. Everyone LOVED them! And just the right amount of salt.”
Of course, not everyone is on board with the slightly salty, subtly seafood-esque potato chips. Some social media users aren’t exactly fans. Another Redditor wrote, “My opinion is that these are not very good. They aren’t very similar to the ones I get from Asian markets. Those brands like Dandy and Calbee are much tastier than these. These are subpar to say the least.” Another TJ’s shopper noted, “Calbee is better, but this is probably cheaper.”
And if you’re already a fan of the more traditional types of shrimp chips, here’s what another crisp connoisseur had to say on the matter: “Calbee’s has a different texture and mouthfeel. These look like the ones sold at Costco…which are airy and kinda styrofoam-like (not in a bad way for me). Calbee and Nongshim are denser.”
View this post on InstagramThe speculation didn’t stop at Reddit. When the Trader Joe’s Treasure Hunt Instagram account posted a pic of the new product and asked fans if they would “try or deny,” the store’s loyal followers also had something to say. Influencer Talia Heskett (a.k.a. Trader Joe’s Talia) said, “These seem interesting!”, while other replies weren’t as hopeful. One commenter wrote, “Hmm, not sure how I feel about these. Will I buy? Probably not,” and another added, “Something’s just shouldn't be on a chip.”
What’s the verdict? Based on shoppers’ opinions, these chips are definitely in the give-it-a-try category. And now for the real question: Will this new snack become a store staple or go the way of the coveted Irish Butter Garlic Chips? As of now, there’s no news on whether Trader Joe’s plans to keep these chips in stock or make them a limited-time seasonal selection. That said, if you’re interested in trying this pick, you may want to nab a bag (for $3.99) right now. Given the amount of attention the shrimp and garlic crisps are getting online, they might sell out quickly!
Dolly Parton Just Gave You the Perfect Excuse to Visit the Smokies After Dark
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to head to the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the "Butterfly in Chief" herself just gave you one. Dollywood’s Splash Country is officially kicking off its 26th season this Saturday, May 16, but there is a brand-new reason to stay long after the sun goes down this summer.
While the award-winning water park is famous for its mountain views and family-friendly thrills, the real buzz this year is about what happens when the gates usually close. Starting June 19, the park is debuting "Neon Nights," a high-energy, separately ticketed after-hours event. Think immersive glow experiences, neon lights, and exclusive entertainment that transforms the park into a vibrant, late-night oasis from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on select weekends.

But the "glow-up" doesn’t stop at the lighting. The park is leaning into some seriously trendy flavors for the 2026 season. If you’re a foodie, you’ll want to look for the new Firecracker Street Corn or the "Rocky Paw" Bear Paw—a decadent treat loaded with vanilla icing, toffee crumbles, and caramel. To wash it all down, they’re serving up Instagram-ready sips like Ube Lemonade and Blue Raspberry Boba.

For those who prefer to "lounge like Dolly," the park has also upgraded its canopy rentals. You can now hide away from the Southern sun in spots equipped with fans, power for your mobile devices, and the ultimate luxury: mobile order food delivery straight to your seat. No more standing in line for BBQ fries while your hair is still wet!
A few logistical heads-ups before you pack your swimsuit:
- Go Cashless: The park has fully transitioned to electronic payments to keep lines moving. If you only have cash, don't worry—there are "Cash to Card" kiosks scattered throughout the park.
- Mark the Calendar: Daily operations begin May 23, and the park’s famous Water Safety Day returns on June 25, featuring the "World’s Largest Swimming Lesson"—a free 30-minute session for kids at the wave pool.
Whether you’re there for the $39.99 Neon Nights party or a full day of Smoky Mountain splashing, it’s clear that Dolly is making sure the 2026 season is anything but ordinary. Happy splashing!

Kate Middleton Once Mistaken for Prince William’s Assistant —Her Clever Response
Although she has been a high-profile member of the British Royal Family since 2011, it appears there are still some people who don't know who Kate Middleton is.
Back in 2020, the couple met home care residents face-to-face for the first time in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was one of their first public appearances after lockdown.
Kate and William visited Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff after previously playing virtual bingo with residents months earlier. During the visit, they met with residents and staff while observing health protocols, including social distancing and wearing masks.
However, during one discussion with a resident, Kate was mistaken for someone who worked for Prince William instead of his wife.

The couple met resident Joan Drew-Smith, who publicly critiqued the couple's bingo skills. The Prince of Wales said, "Hello Joan, do you remember we did the bingo with you? You said we weren't very good!" She stood by her statement, telling the couple “Yes. You did a bloody [expletive] job."
"Is that your assistant?" Drew-Smith asked William, looking at the princess.

William told another resident that he and Kate had never played the game before. Kate added, "That's why we were so bad!"
"We enjoyed it just as much as you did," William continued. "It was a new experience for us."

Kate's comeback has some truth to it. Her role as Princess of Wales is to assist or support her husband as he prepares for and eventually inherits the crown.

According to an April 2025 report by The Times, "Kate has always seen her role as a supporting one. She is understood to have been inspired by the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who made an individual contribution while being very clear that his role was to support the monarch."
The report continued, "For Kate, that means acting as a gatekeeper to ensure that William can do his work while also finding time to be a hands-on father, and that everyone understands that this is the deal. It’s 'the long game.'"
Kate Middleton just visited Italy on behalf of the royal family. The trip is tied into her work with early childhood education.

How Taylor Sheridan Built a Life With His Wife Nicole Muirbrook, His Real-Life Cowgirl
Not even 15 years ago, Yellowstonecreator Taylor Sheridan and his wife, Nicole Muirbrook, were struggling actors living paycheck-to-paycheck in Los Angeles.
“At the time it was like, ‘Let’s just make enough to pay a mortgage or rent or food.’ We were literally starving,” Muirbrook told Cowgirl Magazine of those early days. “That’s when Taylor started writing, and two years later, we were at the Oscars … I still can’t believe it.” (Sheridan’s breakout screenplays were Sicario and Hell orHigh Water, which was nominated for Best Screenplay.)
Since then, Sheridan has become the king of Westerns and the couple and their son, Gus, live at Bosque Ranch in Weatherford, Tex., a 600-acre expanse of land that represents the family’s shared love of cowboy culture. They also own the historic 6666 Ranch (a.k.a. the Four Sixes).
Keep reading to learn more about Sheridan and his wife, including how they met and what she does for a living.
Who is Taylor Sheridan's wife?Sheridan has been married to Nicole Muirbrook since 2013. While Sheridan is typically private about his personal life, Muirbrook occasionally gives fans a glimpse into their relationship on social media.
For Sheridan’s birthday last year, she shared a steamy photo of them kissing with the caption: “Happy Birthday, my love. You’re the words, the pages, the whole damn book 🔥”
View this post on Instagram What does Taylor Sheridan’s wife do for a living?Muirbrook is a former model and actress who now spends the bulk of her time directing operations at Bosque Ranch, working with horses.
She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was scouted by a modeling agent at a local mall as a teen. At first, young Muirbrook wasn’t interested in the opportunity — “I was very much a tomboy,” she explained. “I never wanted to brush my hair. I was always in the dirt.” — but her mom, a former Miss America runner-up, convinced her to go for it.
After years spent traveling Europe and landing in magazines like Vogue and Marie Claire, Muirbrook moved to Hollywood to try her hand at acting. She booked small roles in the TV shows Dark Blue and How I Met Your Mother, then met Sheridan.
These days, she’s focused on ranching and equestrian sports like reining and cutting. She also sits on the board of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and donates her free time to charity and several elderly care institutions.

Sheridan nodded to their beginnings at the New York City premiere of his series The Madison.
"I'd like to begin it by thanking my wife, who believed in me when no one else did, including myself," Sheridan said in his opening remarks. "Without her I'd just be the coolest acting coach in L.A. I'm really glad I'm not."

When did Taylor Sheridan and his wife get married? The pair tied the knot on Sept. 18, 2013. Celebrating their seven-year anniversary in 2020, Muirbrook wrote on Instagram, "To the man I get to do life with. Thank you for the countless smiles, crazy adventures, and all the things in between. I couldn’t ask for a better husband or father to our son."
View this post on Instagram Do Taylor Sheridan and his wife have kids?Yes. The pair share a son, Gus, born Sept. 23, 2010. Sheridan has said that starting a family marked a turning point for him professionally as well as personally.
“I think the thing that really changed my perspective on my career was getting married and having a child,” he said. “And then, really thinking about how I am going to raise that child. And if that child is going to look up to me, what is he looking up to me for? It made me reflect on my career very deeply.“
Praising Sheridan on Father’s Day 2021, Muirbrook wrote on Instagram, “I’m grateful to be sharing life, love, and parenthood with a wonderful man like you. We love you Baby.”
View this post on Instagram Where do Taylor Sheridan and his wife live?Sheridan lives with his family at Bosque Ranch in Weatherford, Tex.
They moved there sometime around 2020, after a period spent in Park City, Utah.
“We were living in Park City, and Taylor really didn’t like the snow,” Muirbrook explained. “So, he rolled over one morning and said, ‘Honey, we’re getting the hell out of here,’ and I’m like ‘Where are we going?’ ‘We’re going to go to Texas,’ he replied.”
It turned out to be a beautiful fit, especially for their young son.
“He’s never on his phone. He’s never on his X-Box,” Muirbrook said. “He’s always outside with the dogs, fishing with his buds, or roller-skating in the barn. He also ropes, so he’s often on horseback. He’s just always doing something.”
Perhaps he’s also had a chance to watch some of his dad’s shows get made — several of them, including Yellowstone, have filmed on the ranch.

If You Think Stephen King Is Too Scary for You, These 5 Books Will Change Your Mind
Stephen King has published more than 60 novels and roughly 200 short stories, the vast majority of which involve monsters, supernatural forces, or the sort of slow-building dread that makes you keep the light on when you finally go to sleep. He is, without question, the defining figure in American horror fiction. But there is a sort of parallel career hiding inside that terrifying bibliography. It's one that has produced some of the most beloved films and TV of the past 40 years, none of which involve a single clown or haunted hotel.
If you have always assumed King is not for you because you don't like horror, you may be surprised by these five books:
1. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (novella, 1982)
The source material for The Shawshank Redemption, Frank Darabont's 1994 film that has spent years at or near the top of IMDb's all-time rankings. Published in the collection Different Seasons, the novella follows wrongly imprisoned banker Andy Dufresne through years of incarceration and a friendship that becomes the story's entire emotional engine. No supernatural elements, no monsters, but one of the finest things King has ever written.
2. The Body (novella, 1982)
Also from Different Seasons, the basis for Rob Reiner's Stand by Me (1986), and despite the title, decidedly not horror. Instead, it's four boys in King's beloved Maine, a dead body in the woods, and a story about friendship and the end of childhood. King has said in interviews that Stand by Me was among his favorite adaptations of his work, precisely because it captured something emotionally true about the way those years feel in memory.

3. The Green Mile (novel, 1996)
Originally published in six monthly installments, The Green Mile is set on Depression-era Death Row and follows a corrections officer whose life is upended by a prisoner with unexplainable gifts. The Frank Darabont film adaptation earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Its supernatural elements are present but ancillary, the story is fundamentally about mercy, justice, and the decisions that define a life.
4. 11/22/63 (novel, 2011)
A high school teacher discovers a portal to 1958 and decides to use the years until the Kennedy assassination to stop it. The New York Times named it one of the five best fiction books of 2011, and Errol Morris called it one of the best time travel stories since H.G. Wells. The eight-part Hulu miniseries adaptation, starring James Franco, did justice to the book's emotional core. This one is science fiction and suspense, not horror.
On Writing (memoir/craft guide, 2000)
King's combination memoir and manual on the craft of fiction is considered essential reading by writers across genres. It is candid, funny, and completely stripped of the ornate darkness that defines his fiction. Entertainment Weeklyranked it among the 100 best reads of the previous 25 years.
So there you go! Five powerhouse books that won't scare you, but will let you enjoy one of the titans of modern writing. Enjoy! And you can turn the lights off.

1979 AM Radio Gold Tearjerker Named One of Yacht Rock’s Greatest Songs Ever
Long before yacht rock became a cultural phenomenon, this tearjerking 1979 AM radio ballad was already leaving listeners heartbroken with its smooth melodies, emotional lyrics, and unforgettable soft rock sound.
Robert John pushed through the disco-laden beats of the late 1970s with "Sad Eyes," a heartbreaking song that became an AM radio staple and one of yacht rock’s most beloved soft rock tearjerkers. The song hit No. 1 in October 1979.
"Sad Eyes" is the kind of ballad that instantly transports listeners. John’s falsetto vocals and the song’s smooth melody created an emotional hit that captured the pain of letting someone go.
In a list of the Best Yacht Rock Songs of All Time, generated by the Substack Music Influence, the tune ranked at No. 11. It placed between Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" and Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel."

“I look at the charts and see my name, but I still have trouble believing it’s really me,” John once told Rolling Stone. “I didn’t think the song would be the first single from the album. It’s a ballad and I thought the company was crazy to release it.”
Rolling Stone reported that the moody tune took 20 weeks to hit the top spot on the charts. It eventually knocked The Knack's "My Sharona" out of the No. 1 position.

John was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Sad Eyes"the at the 22nd annual awards show in the category of Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male. Other nominees in the same category included winner, Billy Joel, as well as James Taylor, Kenny Rogers, and Rod Stewart.
"Sad Eyes" was John's first single on the Hot 100 since 1972, when he just missed the top spot with his huge hit remake of The Tokens' 1961 hit, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." However, the artist's career began almost 20 years prior.

According to Billboard, John first hit the charts at the age of 12 when he released the song “White Bucks and Saddle Shoes," which climbed as high as No. 74 in 1958. Additionally, he hit the charts with the 1968 song “If You Don’t Want My Love,” in 1970 with “When the Party Is Over,” and in 1972 with “Hushabye.”
After the success of "Sad Eyes," Robert John released “Hey There Lonely Girl” and “Sherry.” His final album was Back on the Street in 1980 reported Rolling Stone.

The First-Ever McDonald’s Opened 86 Years Ago—and the Prices Are Hard to Believe
The year was 1940, and brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald were about to change the restaurant industry forever. Known as Dick and Mac, the duo left behind unsuccessful careers in the movie business and headed west to California, where they opened a small restaurant that later evolved into the groundbreaking Speedee Service System.
Their idea originally started as a BBQ joint but evolved into something revolutionary.
On May 15, 1940, Dick and Mac opened an eatery in San Bernardino that offered a limited menu—hamburgers, french fries, and milkshakes, the staples that McDonald's still relies on today. The craziest part, perhaps, is that a hamburger cost just 15 cents.
Of course, McDonald’s has gone through countless changes over the years, including the introduction of its now-iconic Golden Arches in 1953. Two years later, a man named Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, after joining forces with Dick and Mac. After finding success with the fast food model, Kroc bought out the brothers in 1961 for a cool $2.7 million.
Ultimately, McDonald's became the most popular fast food restaurant in the world. According to PassBy, the chain generated more than $10 billion in revenue in 2023. Today, there are more than 36,000 McDonald's restaurants in more than 100 nations.
Interestingly, the original McDonald's location in San Bernardino, California, was demolished in 1972 and a McDonald's museum has been erected in its place. For those hoping for some McDonald’s nostalgia, you can still visit an OG McDonald’s location—the third brick-and-mortar franchise, which opened in 1953 in Downey, California, still operates today.
Long gone, however, are the 15 cent hamburgers.
Psychologist Says if You Give ‘People Names’ to Your Pets, You Likely Have These 7 Traits
Many people can’t live without a furry friend or pet companion by their side. Whether it’s yourself or a loved one, you probably know someone with a pet named “Shadow” or “Sparky.” But in recent years, many individuals and families have been opting to give their pets “people” names; think of monikers that a human you actually know might have, such as Bob, Mike, Sarah, Brenda, etc.
This might come as a surprise to those who are only used to hearing more traditional pet names, but it's actually becoming more popular for pet owners these days. In fact, the Washington Post reported in 2022 that, after looking at 61,000 dogs' names on Petfinder, one in seven dogs at the time had human names (or names "commonly given to babies").
Ahead, Parade spoke with a psychologist about why some people name their pets human names and what that might mean about them and how they view the world, including seven common traits of people who give their pets "human names."
Spoiler alert: These pet parents often value connection and have a desire to foster strong relationships. That said, it's important not to overthink this because a name is just a name and doesn't paint the whole picture about an individual.

Flashpop/Getty Images
Why Do Some People Give Their Pets ‘Human Names’?To answer the question at the most basic level, people who give their pets "human names" as opposed to more pet-like names often relate to their pets as full family members rather than as “just animals.” And just to reiterate, "people names" are those like Bob, Patty, Andrew, etc., and pet-related monikers are more like Spot, Fido, Bingo, Shadow—names that are more whimsical and fictional-sounding in nature (and ones that you probably wouldn't name a baby).
“A 'human' name can signal emotional closeness, attachment and a sense that the pet has a personality, preferences and a place in the household similar to any other loved one,” says Dr. Ernesto Lira de la Rosa, Ph.D., a psychologist and Hope for Depression Research Foundation media advisor. “It can also reflect how people think about relationships more broadly. For some, naming a pet 'Hank' or 'Patty' makes the relationship feel more mutual and social, rather than one-sided. It brings the pet into everyday life in a more human way, whether through how they talk to them, how they think about them or how they introduce them to others.”
Aside from signaling emotional closeness, Dr. Lira de la Rosa also says that it is significant of a cultural shift happening in today's society.
“Many people are delaying or opting out of having children, and pets are taking on a more central emotional role,” he tells Parade. “Giving a pet a human name can be one small way to reflect that deeper bond.”
That said, it's important to remember that a pet’s name alone does not define someone’s personality.
"It is one small expression of how a person relates to their pet and, more broadly, how they experience connection and attachment," he adds.

7 Traits of People Who Give ‘Human Names’ to Their Pets, According to a Psychologist1. Strong emotional attachmentAccording to Dr. Lira de la Rosa, people who give their pets people names often form deep bonds with their animals, and in general. Plus, they like to show affection.
"The names we choose shape how we see and relate to someone," he shares. "When a pet has a 'human' name, it can subtly change how the owner interacts with them, and people may be more likely to attribute thoughts, feelings, and intentions to their pet."
2. High empathyIn fact, pet owners who give their furry friends "people" names can strengthen empathy and emotional connection, according to Dr. Lira de la Rosa.
"For many people, pets are a source of comfort, stability and companionship," he explains. "Giving them a human name can reinforce that emotional significance and make the relationship feel more reciprocal."
3. Anthropomorphic thinkingPeople tend to attribute human-like qualities to their pets, such as personality traits, moods or intentions.
"This can make interactions feel more relational and meaningful," says Dr. Lira de la Rosa. "Some people choose names that align with their sense of humor, cultural background or even nostalgia. Others may pick names that feel grounded or familiar, which can make the pet feel like an integrated part of their daily life rather than something separate."
4. Value relationships and connectionsPeople who choose human names for their pets often prioritize connection in general.
"It is a way of saying this pet is one of us," states Dr. Lira de la Rosa. "They may be more likely to tune into their pet’s emotional states and respond with care. This can make interactions feel more relational and meaningful."

5. Playfulness and humorFor some, there is a light, humorous element to giving a "human" name to a pet.
"Calling out, 'Greg, stop that!' to a dog can be funny and adds personality to the relationship," Dr. Lira de la Rosa notes.
6. Desire for belonging and family identityAs mentioned above, many people these days are opting to have pets as part of their family unit instead of children to give their lives more purpose and meaning.
"A human name can signal that the pet belongs to the family unit. It is a way of saying this pet is one of us," Dr. Lira de la Rosa tells Parade. "What matters more is how people care for their pets. Whether the name is 'Buddy' or 'Michael,' the quality of the relationship is what really reflects someone’s values and emotional life."
7. Comfort with nontraditional normsIn a nutshell, there's an unwritten list of socially acceptable pet names (otherwise we wouldn't be writing this article!). These are all pet names you've probably heard before and are pretty traditional, for lack of a better word.
"Those who give 'people' names to pets may be less concerned with traditional expectations of what a pet 'should' be named and more guided by what feels meaningful or fitting to them," Dr. Lira de la Rosa says.
