1996 Hit Drama Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies’ of All Time Holds Nearly Perfect Rating

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 3:53am

Nearly 30 years after its release, the 1996 British drama film Secrets & Lies is once again getting major attention after being ranked among the best movies of all time by Time Out

The acclaimed film landed at No. 94 on the publication’s list of the “100 Best Movies of All Time,” placing it alongside some of cinema’s most respected titles.

Directed and written by Mike Leigh, the emotional comedy-drama continues to hold a strong reputation with critics and audiences alike. The film currently carries a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes along with a 91% audience score, making it one of the highest-rated dramas from the 1990s.

Time Out praised the film for its deeply human storytelling and unforgettable performances. The publication highlighted Leigh’s famous filmmaking process, which involves months of character exploration, improvisation, and collaborative writing before filming begins.

“Actors are the lifeblood of director Mike Leigh’s famous process,” Time Out wrote. “We recommend Leigh’s critical breakthrough, featuring nervy turns by Brenda Blethyn and Timothy Spall, as the perfect place to begin your deep dive.”

The outlet also singled out one emotional scene as the movie’s greatest moment: “After much prodding, Cynthia (Brenda Blethyn) agrees to meet with the woman claiming to be the daughter she gave up for adoption (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and over the course of a static seven-minute conversation, comes to realise she’s telling the truth.”

Released in 1996, Secrets & Lies follows Hortense, a successful Black optometrist living in London, who searches for her birth mother after the death of her adoptive mother. Her search leads her to Cynthia, a struggling white factory worker dealing with personal and family problems.

The film stars Brenda Blethyn, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Timothy Spall. Supporting performances from Phyllis Logan and Claire Rushbrook also earned praise.

The movie premiered at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or and the Best Actress prize for Blethyn. It later received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.

Blethyn also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture , Drama and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Critics praised the film for showing ordinary family struggles in a realistic and emotional way. Roger Ebert gave the film four out of four stars and wrote that “moment after moment, scene after scene, Secrets & Lies unfolds with the fascination of eavesdropping.”

He also called the film “a flowering of [Leigh's] technique.”

Meanwhile, The Guardian described the movie as “nothing short of miraculous” and praised its realistic performances and emotional depth.

One of the biggest reasons the film continues to stand out is Leigh’s unusual directing style. Instead of using a fully completed script during rehearsals, Leigh worked closely with actors for months to build their characters through improvisation.

The famous café scene between Cynthia and Hortense was filmed in one uninterrupted seven-minute take. The emotional moment became one of the most talked-about scenes in the film.

The movie also became a box office success. Produced on a budget of about $4.5 million, the film earned between $33 million and $50 million worldwide.

Over the years, Secrets & Lies has remained one of Leigh’s most celebrated films. In 1999, the British Film Institute ranked it among the 40 best British films of the 20th century.

Today, the movie’s lasting reputation, award-winning performances and emotional storytelling continue to make it a favorite among film critics and movie fans around the world.

1998 Box Office Flop, Which Made a Comeback Years Later, Ranked Among ‘Most Rewatchable Movies’ of All Time

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 3:30am

Nearly three decades after its release, The Big Lebowski continues to grow in popularity as fans keep returning to the Coen Brothers’ cult comedy.

The film was recently ranked No. 12 on WatchMojo’s list of the “Most Rewatchable Movies of All Time,” proving that the once-divisive movie has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved late-night favorites.

When the film first hit theaters in 1998, it earned mixed reviews and only made $48.3 million worldwide against a $15 million budget. Despite its modest box office performance, the movie slowly found a second life through DVD releases, midnight screenings, streaming and fan festivals.

WatchMojo praised the movie’s strange mystery plot and unforgettable cast of characters, saying, “Jeff the Dude Lebowski may not have any idea what he's doing in the middle of a mystery plot but we absolutely love seeing him try and fail to figure it out along with all the strange people he encounters.”

Directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, the movie stars Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a laid-back bowler who gets dragged into a kidnapping scheme after being mistaken for a millionaire with the same name.

The film also features performances from John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Although audiences were unsure about the movie during its original release, many critics later changed their opinions. The film now holds a 79% critic score and a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, showing how much viewers have embraced it over the years.

Roger Ebert later upgraded his original review and added the movie to his “Great Movies” collection in 2010. He described the film as “weirdly engaging” and praised Bridges’ performance as the Dude.

The movie’s unusual mix of crime, comedy, and surreal dream scenes helped it stand out from traditional Hollywood films. Its dialogue, bowling-centered setting, and strange side characters also made it easy for fans to quote and revisit.

The story follows the Dude after two men break into his apartment and ruin his rug because they mistake him for another Jeffrey Lebowski. That small misunderstanding pulls him into a messy kidnapping case involving fake ransom drops, missing money, and dangerous criminals.

Even though the mystery becomes more chaotic as the movie goes on, many fans say the confusing plot is part of the fun. The film focuses more on the personalities and conversations between characters than on solving the crime itself.

Over time, The Big Lebowski inspired Dudeism, a lifestyle and philosophy movement based on the Dude’s relaxed outlook on life.

Many of the movie’s quotes have become famous in pop culture, especially lines connected to the Dude’s simple lifestyle and Walter Sobchak’s explosive temper.

Critics and fans also continue to praise the movie’s soundtrack, colorful dream sequences, and unforgettable supporting characters like Jesus Quintana, played by John Turturro.

The movie’s legacy grew so much that Turturro later returned as Jesus in the 2020 spin-off film The Jesus Rolls.

Even today, the movie remains one of the most discussed films from the Coen Brothers’ career. What started as a modest theatrical release has turned into a cultural favorite that new viewers continue to discover every year.

Quote of the Day: At 67, Randy Travis Proves Your Legacy Isn't About Money

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 2:47am

On May 4, 1959, Randy Travis was born in Marshville, North Carolina—the second of six kids in a hardworking family. His father Harold worked construction and pushed his kids hard into music from the time they could hold an instrument. When you're a kid, home is supposed to be a safe place—but Harold was a violent alcoholic, so life at home was far from it.

Fortunately, Randy's mom Bobbie was the opposite. She worked at the local textile plant and took the kids to church every Sunday, doing her best to instill kindness, honesty and grace in all six of them.

Fast forward a few years. Randy wasn't even a teenager yet, but he was smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. By freshman year of high school, he was skipping class and already had a rap sheet—for everything from a DUI to public drunkenness to breaking and entering. (He once threw an alcohol-fueled party in a church.) Randy dropped out of school before the school year ended. In fact, one North Carolina judge looked him square in the eye and told him: "Come back into this courtroom one more time, and you're going to prison for a very long time."

But in 1975, 16-year-old Randy walked into a Charlotte, North Carolina nightclub called Country City USA and entered a talent contest. He won the competition and the 36-year-old owner—Lib Hatcher—hired him as a dishwasher and cook. She even let him sing onstage between shifts. When his legal troubles came to a head in 1977, it was Hatcher who went to court and fought on his behalf, formally intervening to keep him out of prison. It was the lifeline he needed to chase his dream.

Four years later, Randy packed up and moved to Nashville. He took the same job at the Nashville Palace, washing dishes, cleaning and singing for tips between orders. For almost five straight years, every major label turned him down, saying his voice was somehow "too country" for country radio.

But that rejection didn't even come close to what Randy had already survived—so he kept fighting for his dreams and in 1985, he won a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

On June 2, 1986, Randy released his debut album, Storms of Life. It sold more than four million copies and launched the neo-traditional country movement. Over the next two decades, the ninth-grade dropout with a rap sheet won seven Grammys, sold 25+ million records and as Garth Brooks said, "singlehandedly saved country music."

But on July 10, 2013, he suffered a near-fatal stroke that left him in a coma with a 1% chance of survival. Throughout his life, Randy Travis has endured, survived and overcome the unthinkable—and that's why he's today's quote of the day.

Related: Quote of the Day by Karen Horney, Psychoanalyst: ‘If You Want To Be Proud of Yourself, Then Do Things in Which You Can Take Pride’

Quote of the Day by Randy Travis

Parade/CanvaPro

"It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go."

That line comes from Randy's 2003 #1 hit "Three Wooden Crosses"—a song that's stuck with millions of fans for over two decades. In a society that's obsessed with what we accumulate—cars, homes, bank accounts, followers—Randy is flipping this idea on its head. He's saying that your legacy is not defined by material objects or bank statements, it's built through the lives you touch, the attitude you have, and the positive things you do while you're here on earth.

Deeper Meaning of Randy Travis' Quote: What Really Defines Your Legacy

Just ten years after Randy recorded "Three Wooden Crosses," he came face-to-face with his own mortality. On July 7, 2013, he suffered a near-fatal stroke that left him in a coma with a 1% chance of survival. Doctors told his then-fiancée Mary it was time to "pull the plug"—but she refused. She stood by his bedside, held his hand and told him they were going to fight. And from that day forward, Mary became his fiercest advocate, his caretaker and his voice. Randy survived, but the voice that built his career was gone.

For most artists, that likely would have been the end—the platinum records, the Grammys, the awards—they would define his legacy. But Randy understood that none of those things were ever the point. Since the stroke, he's launched the Randy Travis Foundation for stroke survivors, released his memoir in an effort to inspire others, made a Telly Award-winning documentary called More Life, and even used AI to record a brand new song with his vocals.

Perhaps his wife put it best when she told Fox News: "Life is the best rehab. Just get out there. Go do what you used to do… dance like nobody's watching and sing like nobody's listening and just have a good time. It truly is the best therapy."

That's what really defines your legacy. It's not about what you have—it's about how you choose to react to life's setbacks and how you uplift others. You don't need a Hall of Fame career or be a millionaire to build a lasting legacy. You just need to be yourself, and use your talents, personality and voice—even in simple, everyday moments—to leave your mark.

More Quotes From Randy Travis
  • "I've learned the importance of loving what you do. I have also learned more patience due to the nature of the music business."
  • "I never thought of having platinum albums and winning awards. I just wanted to write songs and sing when I started out in the music business."
  • "You don't have to get beat up as many times as I did to come to your senses. Certainly I wish I'd come to mine earlier than I did."
  • "To me, country music tells a story about, and deals with, the way people live their lives and what they do."
  • "You continue to evolve with each album that goes by and, as an artist, you continue to expand with every recording project."

If there’s one thing small-space living teaches you quickly, it’s that your furniture can’t afford to be lazy. If it’s taking up valuable square footage, it should be doing far more than simply looking nice. That sentiment is especially true in apartments and compact rooms, where coffee tables conceal clutter with lift-top storage, dining room tables double as desks, and entryway consoles handle everything from shoes to everyday essentials.

One of the most valuable pieces in any home is a couch that can shift along with your needs, offering upright support for sitting, a relaxed angle for lounging, and a fully flat surface when it’s time to sleep. Right now, Walmart has the Holaki Convertible Sleeper Sofa Bed on sale for $190 — a 55% discount from its original $419 price tag — and it does all of the above with ease.

Designed with multitasking in mind and available in ten colors, this couch blends flexibility, comfort, and a clean modern style into one streamlined piece. Wrapped in soft, breathable corduroy and filled with high-density foam, it transitions easily from a three-seat sofa into a laid-back sleeper setup. The modular folding design with removable backrests and square armrests makes it easy to adjust the layout depending on your space, while the no-assembly setup means it arrives ready to use right out of the box.

In its sofa configuration, it keeps a compact footprint at 77.9 inches long by 35.4 inches wide and 26.7 inches high. When opened up, it extends to 77.9 inches long by 70.8 inches wide and 18.5 inches high, creating a much wider surface that works just as well for overnight guests as it does for stretching out during a movie marathon. With a weight capacity of up to 1200 pounds, it comfortably supports multiple people at once while staying steady and supportive.

Beyoncé, Pam Grier Are This '90s Actress and Soap Star's 'Role Models'

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 12:20am

Oscar-winner Quentin Tarantino has a knack for bringing veteran actors back into the spotlight with fresh, dynamite performances.

That includes Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), who was just praised extensively by fellow Tarantino collaborator Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill) in a new interview with AARP's Movies for Grownups.

"I once got the opportunity to interview my role model," she said. "I was in tears. I named my production company, Foxy Brown Productions, after her. She was the first super strong, beautiful African American woman that I saw."

Fox continued, "[Pam] said to me, 'Why are you crying so much?' I said, 'Because I can’t believe how kind and beautiful and generous you are with your knowledge.' And she said, 'Vivica, it’s how I’m supposed to be, and I challenge you to do the same.' I’ve been passing the baton to the [next generation], and I’m always kind, because I believe a happy set is a productive set."

Fox is busy promoting Is God Is, which hits theaters this weekend. It's the latest project for the longtime actress who has starred in blockbusters like Independence Day and daytime programs like The Young and the Restless. Fox reflected on her career in speaking with AARP.

"I used to be [so focused] on the treadmill of success that I would forget to enjoy this," she said. "You start working and the phone starts ringing constantly, and then you forget to take a little time to breathe, right? You can take a little vacation, or you can go have a little bit of fun — but not too much fun, right?"

She continued, "Do everything in moderation, but enjoy the ride, because it’s beautiful. I look at some of my role models, like Beyoncé — she’s such a hard worker. I’ll never forget going to see her for the first time in France in a stadium and just kind of going, 'Wow, there are 60,000 people here to see her dreams come true.' Nowadays, everybody thinks that they can just swipe to fame. And I always say to young actors: Don’t have a moment — build a career."

Walmart's 'Pretty' $21 Vintage-Style Plant Stand 5-Pack Is the Easiest Summer Upgrade for Your Patio

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 12:15am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

When was the last time you really thought about where your plants are sitting? If you've never considered a plant stand, it might be time to start. Plant stands can do more than lift pots off the ground — they improve drainage and airflow, help with light exposure, and bring a more intentional feel to your setup. They're also one of the simplest ways to pull a room together, whether you're styling a living room corner, a balcony, or an entryway.

Right now, the Foukus 5-Pack Metal Plant Stand Set is on clearance, marked down from $37 to just $21. Walmart shoppers described the set as “elegant,” thanks to its wrought iron-inspired design that brings subtle vintage-style charm to any space. It includes five stands in different sizes that are suitable for a variety of plants.

The set includes five plant stands made from rustproof iron with a durable finish designed to withstand outdoor conditions. They can safely be left outdoors on a balcony, patio, or porch.

The stands come in five sizes, ranging from 8.2 to 11.4 inches in diameter and 3.9 to 11.8 inches in height, giving you plenty of options for different pot sizes and plants.

Each stand can support between 50 and 130 pounds, making them sturdy enough for everything from small succulents to heavier ceramic or terracotta pots. A raised iron ring around the edge of each stand helps keep pots securely in place, while rubber pads on the bottom protect floors and prevent slipping or scratching. Assembly is simple and tool-free — just screw the legs into the base and you’re done.

Because the stands come in graduated sizes, you can arrange them to create visual depth anywhere you want. As one Walmart shopper noted, "I can arrange my plants in various configurations, unlike the all-in-one plant stands, which I find quickly become cluttered."

Another buyer was won over by how easy the stands are to put together — and how much you can do with them. "It's such a steal! They are all so pretty and easy to assemble. You can even mix and match the legs to adjust the height!" they wrote.

If you've got kids or pets running around, you'll appreciate how sturdy these are. One shopper said the stands looked "super cute" in their entryway and that they weren't worried about kids or dogs knocking them over.

They're not just for plants, either. The stands can also work as pet bowl risers, mini display tables, or bases for small appliances and décor.

In a social media post, Kansas broke the news that their upcoming performances in Minnesota are "cancelled.”

The two scheduled shows were set for May 15 at Shooting Star Casino Hotel & Event Center in Mahnomen, followed by the next day’s performance at Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton.

22 Years After Her Death, the Son of This ‘General Hospital’ Legend Shares a Rare Throwback Photo of the Iconic Matriarch

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 11:18pm

For decades, Anna Lee entertained audiences on the ABC soap opera General Hospital as the matriarch of the Quartermaine family. Now, 22 years after her death, her son has shared a rare throwback photo of the beloved actress.

Lee’s son, actor Jeffery Byron, took to Instagram to share the photo of his mother on the set of the beloved soap opera, writing, “My beautiful mother Anna Lee playing her signature role of Lila Quartermaine on GENERAL HOSPITAL! And beside her is the wonderful David Lewis, who originated the role of Edward!”

Fans took to the actor's comments to share their memories of watching Lee on General Hospital with Byron. One user wrote, “Your mother, as Lila, was the quintessential grandmother! I grew up watching her with my own grandma, and watching 'stories' with her is one of my favorite memories.”

A second user added, “One of my all-time favorite GH couples. Lila and Anna Lee were both class and dignity personified. And David Lewis will, for me, always be the definitive Edward Quartermaine. It’s always wonderful to see his smile!

A third shared, “I wrote your mother a fan letter when she was on GH and received the loveliest reply. Your mother had beautiful handwriting. And it was on her personal stationery: From the desk of Anna Lee. I was a teenager and thrilled.’

Taylor Swift Causes A Stir With Outfit in Latest Sighting

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 11:17pm

Taylor Swift is back at her stomping grounds — New York City!

The "Cruel Summer" singer has been seen multiple times around Manhattan this past week. The first time was on Monday, when Swift was caught dining at The Eight Six in the West Village with her family. Photographers captured her stepping out in a black midi dress with a sparkly silver top. On Tuesday, Swift was seen entering Via Carota for Lena Dunham's 40th birthday dinner, wearing a white Retrofête mini dress, black heels and a handbag.

Then, on Thursday evening, Swift was photographed entering Zero Bond, an exclusive, members-only club in NoHo that offers workspaces, restaurants, bars and conference rooms. The 36-year-old singer wore a chic and simple business casual outfit: a white long-sleeve button-up with a black belt on her hips, khaki slacks and a pair of short high heels. Her hair was styled naturally, and she tied the look together with a black mini handbag and a gold bangle.

"carrie the women you have birthed…" a fan said, comparing the look to an iconic outfit that Carrie Bradshaw wore in an episode of Sex and the City.

Many also made jokes about her bangs, which are growing out. Some are making comments about how they are "too long" and that she should try curtain bangs.

"her bangs are loooong," an X user quote-tweeted. "give the curtain bangs a test drive mama."

"are we growing out our bangs?" a user asked.

"Her bangs are in control of her," a fan teased.

One said, "never seen a bob as a bang."

"Why has she styled her bangs like a Beatles haircut," a user joked.

1985 Career-Shifting Hit With a Colorful Video Returned to the Charts 30 Years Later

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 11:14pm

41 years ago today, on May 15, 1985, Prince and the Revolution released their psychedelic dance hit, “Raspberry Beret.” The song marked a significant departure from the musical style the icon had embraced on the sweeping ballad “Purple Rain,” released the year prior, signaling a creative evolution in both sound and artistic direction.

Written solely by Prince and appearing on his seventh studio album, Around the World in a Day, “Raspberry Beret” finds the singer swooning over a girl he met while working, leisurely, his part-time job at a five-and-dime. His fictional love interest confidently dons a raspberry-colored beret atop her head, while Prince admits his infatuation with the woman.

Sonically, “Raspberry Beret” features a Middle Eastern string arrangement that calls to mind the mid to late ‘60s era of The Beatles. Adding another layer of artistry to the song is the colorful music video, which features Prince sporting a flamboyant suit with a ruffled undershirt and surrounded by florals, graphic images, his backup band, and a cast of energetic dancers.

Offering dreamy, surreal vibes, the Drew Takahashi-animated and Prince-choreographed clip showcases Prince and the Revolution delivering a live performance of their hit while on risers beneath a sky of floating puffy clouds. Before singing the lyrics of the song, Prince intentionally lets out a cough and then settles into his performance, entertaining the crowd below.

Interestingly, two celebrities make a cameo in the clip — Cheers’Jackie Swanson and Pat Smear, a member of Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. Of the latter, Smear initially thought he wouldn’t make the cut following his audition.

“Since I have two left feet and can’t dance, I assumed I wasn’t going to be picked for the video,” he said in a 2019 interview, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.com. “As I was walking out, one of Prince’s people stopped me and told me that Prince liked my look and wanted me to sit next to the drum set.”

The video for “Raspberry Beret” went on to win an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography in a Video and an American Video Award for Best Urban Contemporary Video & Best Performance by a Duo or Group.

The song, meanwhile, peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following Prince’s 2016 death, the track re-entered the same chart, reaching No. 33 on May 14.

60 Years Ago, This Emotional Jim Reeves Ballad Became a Posthumous Smash Hit

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 11:00pm

By the time Jim Reeves topped the charts with "Distant Drums" in May 1966, the country singer had already been dead for nearly two years.

On May 15, 1966, Reeves reached No. 1 on the country charts in the U.K. with the haunting ballad, which would go on to become one of the most remarkable posthumous hits in country music history.

The success was especially bittersweet because Reeves never got to witness the song’s enormous global impact.

The beloved singer died in a tragic plane crash on July 31, 1964, at just 40 years old, after the small aircraft he was piloting went down near Nashville during a thunderstorm.

Already one of country music’s biggest crossover stars by the early 1960s, Reeves had become known for his velvety smooth voice and polished "Nashville Sound" recordings that appealed to both country and pop audiences. Hits like "He’ll Have to Go," "Welcome to My World" and "Four Walls" established him as an international star long before "Distant Drums" arrived.

But it was "Distant Drums" that became one of the defining songs of his legacy.

Written by legendary songwriter Cindy Walker, the emotional track tells the story of a man torn between love and duty as he heads off to war. Reeves had recorded the song before his death, and producer Chet Atkins later helped oversee its release as part of the wave of posthumous recordings that followed the singer’s passing.

The song resonated deeply with listeners on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the United Kingdom, "Distant Drums" became Reeves' only UK No. 1 single, topping the charts in 1966 and remaining there for an astonishing 45 weeks. At the time, Reeves had an especially devoted British fan base, and his smooth vocal style helped country music gain traction overseas during the era.

The song’s massive success also reinforced Reeves’ enduring influence on future generations of artists. Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell and countless country traditionalists later cited Reeves as a major inspiration.

For many fans, the song’s lingering melancholy only became more poignant knowing the singer behind it never lived to see just how beloved it would become.

'90s Icon, Who Starred in Hit Movie That Earned $212 Million, Turns 65

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 9:42pm

Tim Roth, the acclaimed actor who is widely recognized for his chameleon-like ability to transform into any role, is celebrating a major milestone as the ‘90s star turns 65.

Among his many notable performances, he delivered a career-defining role in a blockbuster hit that went on to earn more than $212 million worldwide.

Born in London on May 14, 1961, he realized at an early age that he wanted to become an actor, prompting him to drop out of art school to pursue a career in acting.

However, the road to stardom wasn't smooth sailing for the Hoodlum star, who had to take on various jobs, including telephone advertising sales and bartending, while pursuing his acting career.

Fortunately, he landed a big break after starring in his first lead role in Made in Britain.

For Roth’s professional screen debut, he took on the challenging role of Trevor, a deeply troubled 16-year-old who, despite his intelligence, was antisocial and intensely violent.

Although he perfectly portrayed the role, Roth got the part by “a ridiculous accident.”

According to him, he didn't plan on trying out for the film, but ended up taking the role.

"So it was all a joke – a mistake that became fun,” he told The Australian, adding that at the time, he had a flat bike tire and had to stop at the theater to borrow a pump.

With his undeniable charisma, he was noticed by a casting team that was looking for raw talent.

"It backfired, because I got (the part)... so I had to sing and dance in front of all the bullies and get the shit kicked out of me even more for it,” the actor added.

His debut film paved the way for him to join notable projects from Meantime to the 1984 movie The Hit, where he secured a BAFTA nomination for Most Promising Newcomer and eventually landed yet another career-solidifying role in Reservoir Dogs.

The 1992 film marked the beginning of his long collaboration with Quentin Tarantino, who also cast him in the iconic movie Pulp Fiction.

Released in 1994, the crime-comedy movie became a box office success and became a cultural phenomenon.

With a modest production budget of $8 million, the film grossed over $9 million on its opening weekend and went on to gross a whopping $212 million worldwide, nearly 26 times its production cost.
