Geena Davis Says George Clooney Joked He Hated Brad Pitt After Auditioning for 'Thelma & Louise' Role
George Clooney could have completely changed the vibe of the groundbreaking film Thelma & Louise if he had landed Brad Pitt’s role — something he jokingly told Geena Davis he hated Pitt for.
Davis recently revealed on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that Clooney was one of the actors who auditioned for the charming yet thieving hitchhiker J.D. in Thelma & Louise — and that she even read opposite him during the audition process.
Davis said she read with “four finalists” for the part and recalled being on a flight with Clooney. “At one point we’re talking about Brad Pitt, and he says, ‘You know, I hate that Brad Pitt.’ I said, ‘No, you don’t. Isn’t he like your best friend or something?’” Davis recalled the lively conversation with Clooney.
She continued, “‘No, I hate him because he got the part in Thelma & Louise!’” Davis recalled Clooney saying. “And I said, ‘Oh, did you want to get that part?’ And he said, ‘Couldn’t you tell when I read with you?’”
Davis famously went to bat for an unknown Pitt, who was 26 at the time, but seemed somewhat uncomfortable when asked about him. Host Andy Cohen asked her to describe what it was like to kiss Pitt in a single word, and she said, "Wait, really? I don't know if I want to answer this question." Co-guest actor Nathan Fillion tried to help by offering words like “Memorable” and “Sublime,” to which Davis simply replied, “Yes, both of those.”
When Cohen asked why she wanted Pitt for the role, she replied, "He got the part on his own merit, but I thought he read the best."
During a 2022 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Davis recalled the audition for J.D., and how each of the actors auditioning was “very handsome. They all had brown hair and were very talented. I didn’t care who it was going to be. Then the fourth one comes in, and it’s Brad Pitt. He’s so charismatic and so incredibly talented that I was screwing up his audition" because she'd forgotten "to say my line."
She named Clooney among those who auditioned, plus actors Grant Show and Mark Ruffalo also tried for the role.

How I Pack for a 7-Day Universal Studios Trip With a Single Carry-On
The Orlando airport is full of families and friends wearing Mickey ears, Harry Potter t-shirts, and pulling large suitcases tiredly behind them. Now, I'm all for Mickey ears and Harry Potter t-shirts. The one thing I'm not for? Bringing a large suitcase with you for every single trip–especially a trip to a theme park. The reality is, you truly don't need that much when taking a week long trip to somewhere like Universal.
That's why I'm always first in line for Hagrid's while everyone else is still circling the carousel. And the timing couldn't be better—with Epic Universe hitting its one-year milestone, the parks are busier than ever. Mastering the 'park-hopping carry-on' is the only way to ensure you're exploring new portals instead of waiting for lost luggage.
In general, I'm passionate about packing light. It saves me money on my flights, saves me time in the airport, and it makes my day to day decisions on what to wear so much easier when I'm on my trip. You will never catch me checking a full-sized suitcase at the airport if I'm traveling for two weeks or less. How do I manage it every time? The key to this is planning ahead and being realistic.
For a trip to Universal Orlando, you should know ahead of time how many days you're planning to spend in the actual theme parks, how many relaxing pool days you'll be having, or how often you'll be going to the City Walk or out to a nice dinner. With all of that in mind, you can easily pack everything you'd need for those events in one carry-on. Now, grab your wizard wand, and let's get packing.

The Park Outfits Plan exactly what your outfits will be for each park dayMelissa Cabey
If you're taking a week long trip to Universal Orlando, you're probably going to spend one day at Epic Universe and two days jumping between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. I decided to bring exercise dresses for two of the park days: one blue one that reminds me of the Beauxbatons Academy girls from Harry Potter, and one pink one that gave me pure Princess Peach vibes. Then, to switch things up, I packed a pair of comfortable white shorts and a tank top. It can get extremely hot in Orlando, so choosing outfits that allow your skin to breathe is key for your long park days in Universal.

City Walk, Volcano Bay and Pool Days packing items that can mix and match is keyMelissa Cabey
If you're staying at one of Universal's resorts (which I highly recommend) you will most likely be spending your non-park days at the resort pool, at the City Walk, or even at Universal's waterpark, Volcano Bay.
For those days, I decided to pack one sun dress, which is perfect to throw over a bathing suit. Then, I packed two pairs of shorts and two t-shirts. Each pair of shorts and tops match each other, so technically, those 4 items create 4 possible outfits. All of these are great for a casual trip to the pool, shopping and eating, or hanging out around the resort. They are casual, comfortable, and cute.
I decided to pack two bathing suits, although I definitely had room to fit more. I just knew that I would be spending one day at Volcano Bay and one day at the resort pool, so that's all I needed.

Outfits For Nice Dinners Don't overpack on evening wear–be realistic!Melissa Cabey
One of the best parts about staying onsite at Universal Orlando is being able to have easy access to great restaurants for dinner each night. For my trip, I knew that I had three "nicer" dinners planned, where I'd want to change out of my day clothes into something else. I packed two longer dresses, both of which are super breathable and great for hot weather, but they look very put together and nice. Then, I packed one black short dress, just to change up the style of dresses I'd be wearing to the dinners.
A lot of people overpack when it comes to dinner clothing, because they're not sure what they're going to want to wear for certain nights out. As your packing, be strict with yourself, and force yourself to choose exactly what you'll be wearing to each scheduled dinner. This will prevent you from packing extra clothing that will end up being unnecessary.
Accessories, Shoes and Misc. Items two pairs of shoes are all you need for a trip to Universal OrlandoMelissa Cabey
I recently went on a 7-day trip to Disney World, and I packed three pairs of shoes. Two of them were the ones that I chose for this Universal trip: my white pair of Dr. Scholl's sneakers for the park days, and a comfortable pair of sandals for pool days and dinners. On my Disney trip, I only wore the third pair of shoes (a cute pair of ballet flats) one time, and I decided that they truly weren't necessary. I'd rather have room in my luggage for extra souvenirs. So, ultimately, two pairs of shoes is perfect for a trip like this.
Melissa Cabey
What else haven't we packed? Undergarments, toiletries, hair supplies, makeup, accessories, electronics, pajamas, and medication. Easy!
I can always fit two weeks worth of socks and underwear in one small compression bag, and for this, I only needed one week, so it's even smaller than usual. I was then able to sneak my pajamas into that compression bag as well. For toiletries, I know that the resort hotel will provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Therefore, I only need face wash and lotion, a razor, and deodorant. Then, I'll buy a large sunscreen once I get to my resort. My toiletries fit in a very small toiletry bag.
Lastly, I threw in a hot hair tool, a hair brush, my makeup bag, and a baseball hat. All of this fit seamlessly into my carry-on, with extra room to spare! For any other items, like the electronics and medication, I keep those packed in my personal item, that way they're more easily accessible while traveling.
The Universal Insider’s Carry-On Strategy- Leave the 'Souvenir Sleeve': Don't pack your carry-on to the brim. Between Interactive Wands, exclusive house robes, and collectible popcorn buckets, you’re going to need a "souvenir sleeve" of space. Since many of these items are only sold within the parks, you don’t want to be forced to buy an expensive "emergency" suitcase at the airport.
- The App is Your Command Center: Before you head to the airport, make sure you have the Official Universal Orlando Resort App updated. It’s the only way to manage your Virtual Lines and mobile food orders, and it completely eliminates the need for bulky paper maps or printed itineraries.
- The Lanyard Hack: Pack a sturdy lanyard with a clear pouch. It’s a theme park pro move for keeping your room key and Express Pass accessible for quick scanning at ride entrances, saving you from digging through your bags every time you hit a new attraction.
- Dry Bag for the Water Rides: If you’re hitting the big splash attractions at Islands of Adventure or spending the day at Volcano Bay, you will get wet. Pack one small, lightweight dry bag to keep your phone and electronics safe, rather than relying on a Ziploc that might fail.
There you go! You are fully packed for a week in Universal Orlando, with nothing extra weighing you down, but tons of options to feel fresh and stylish throughout your trip. Plus, room for souveniers!

1975 Classic Rock Anthem, Ranked Among ‘Most Underrated Guitar Solos of All Time,’ Became Band’s Defining Song
In 1975, the Tampa-based band the Outlaws released their debut album, which featured the song “Green Grass and High Tides.” Written by Hughie Thomasson, the nearly 10-minute track was never released as a single, but it closed out the album in an epic way with two extended guitar solos by Thomasson, Billy Jones, and Henry Paul, who were dubbed the “Florida Guitar Army.”
While the debut single “There Goes Another Love Song” became the Outlaws' only Top 40 Billboard hit, “Green Grass and High Tides” will forever be known as the band’s signature song and a Southern rock anthem.
Vintage Guitar described ”Green Grass and High Tides” as ”arguably the band’s definitive song” and a “bona fide rock classic.”
In addition, Ultimate Guitar once ranked “Green Grass and High Tides” as one of the 25 most underrated guitar solos of all time on a list topped by Smashing Pumpkins' “Cherub Rock” and Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper.”
The guitar solos were originally longerEven with its 9:46 run time, “Green Grass and High Tides” received airplay on album-oriented radio stations. But the original recording was even longer.
Outlaws bandmate Paul told Vintage Guitar that part of the guitar jam was cut out by music producer Paul A. Rothchild. “Everything was done with a razor blade, and there was miles of 2″ tape on the floor – someone’s solo – so it went from a 13- or 14-minute song down to a 9:46 version,” he said. “But he consolidated the essence of the song with brilliant edits; it sounded like it was perfectly conceived.”
In an interview with Classic Bands, Thomasson admitted he was worried when Rothchild started cutting up the song. "’Green Grass And High Tides’ was probably 15 or 16 minutes long, our first studio version. It was just too long,” the Outlaws songwriter revealed. “Everybody said, ‘It's too long. You can't do it. It's not gonna get airplay.’ Paul Rothchild said, ‘Well, let me see what I can do.’"
"I walked back into the control room, and I see him with a razor blade and there's two-inch tape lying over the chairs, around his neck, over the console," Thomasson recalled. "He said, ‘I'm editing "Green Grass.’ My heart came up in my throat. Oh my God! We worked so hard to get that track. We cut that track, and we thought it was really the best one, and now it's in pieces. He goes, ‘Just trust me.’"
While Thomasson was “sweating bullets," it all worked out, and Rothchild’s edited version is what was put on the album.

Henry Paul thought the song deserved more attentionPaul also looked back on the legacy of “Green Grass and High Tides” in a 2017 interview with Glide magazine, where he compared it to another Southern rock anthem.
“You know, there were only a handful of songs that got attention, ‘Green Grass & High Tides’ being one of them,” he said. "That certainly deserved all of the attention and accolades and exposure and appreciation. As a matter of fact, I thought ‘Green Grass and High Tides’ is a song that deserved more attention than it got. I always thought ‘Green Grass & High Tides” was a record that was much more interesting than ‘Freebird.’”
The guitar legend explained that he felt the Outlaws song was “more intricate, more difficult and more musical” than the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic.
“’Green Grass and High Tides’ is one of the most difficult songs that anybody would ever play. If you go to the Rock Band toy series, it’s the last song in the catalog and the most difficult,” the Outlaws guitar player added.

‘Brady Bunch’ Star Eve Plumb Recalls Cast’s Strangest Staged Photoshoot
Eve Plumb is looking back on her days on The Brady Bunch. In her memoir Happiness Included, the actress, who played Jan Brady on the ABCsitcom from 1969 to 1974, shared new details on what it was like when the cast went from regular child actors to superstars with a huge fan base.
In her book, Plumb, 68, recalled times when producers would request group publicity photos. The cast, which also included Robert Reed,Florence Henderson, Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen, and Ann B. Davis would then dress up and meet at a designated location to pose for the promotional shots. The actress recalled one photo session in particular that she still can’t wrap her head around decades later.
“In one eye-rolling staged photo session we had to pose in a grassy field with huge Easter baskets adorned with giant bows on the handles,” Plumb wrote. “Robert Reed stands behind us holding a three-foot-tall stuffed rabbit, doing his best to grin.”

Plumb admitted she was surprised that Reed, who was notoriously critical of The Brady Bunch, was talked into posing for the corny photos. She also shared that Henderson and Davis were not in any of the Easter shots, before pointing out that The Brady Bunch never celebrated Easter—or any other holiday except Christmas—on the show.
“After the Christmas episode in season 1, the show never acknowledged another holiday, so the Easter basket theme was odd and misleading,” Plumb added.
In her memoir, the actress also referenced another photo shoot featuring all of the Bradys in front of an empty popcorn stand that also didn't make sense.
RELATED: Eve Plumb Opens Up About One of Her Saddest TV Roles
There have been some more widely published Brady promo shots. In July 1971, the cast famously met up with the Jackson 5 on the Paramount Studios lot. The sitcom stars met the musical family as they shot a special for ABC, according to Woman’s World, and photos circulated of them greeting each other and shaking hands.

There were also special promotional shoots when guest stars such as Joe Namath and Davy Jones appeared on The Brady Bunch.
Plumb recalled that at the height of Brady Bunch fandom, all six of the teen actors also made it onto the cover of Tiger Beat. Photographers would come to their homes to get exclusive photos.
During a May 2026 appearance on the A Spoonful of Paolo online talk show, Plumb said she had no regrets about her time on The Brady Bunch. “I think it was a lot of fun,” she said. “I think that I had a lot of opportunities and got to do great things.”
NFL Team Trolls New England Patriots Using Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini Scandal
The Los Angeles Chargers took a direct shot at New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel during the NFL’s annual schedule release night, using references tied to the ongoing controversy involving former NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
The Chargers released their 2026 schedule video Thursday night and included several subtle jokes connected to the widely discussed Vrabel-Russini scandal. The video quickly spread across social media after fans noticed references tied to reports from the New York Post and photos that surfaced over the past month.
One scene in the Chargers’ Halo-themed video showed a notification reading, “NYPost sent you a message.” Another included a road sign that said, “Next Photo Dump 1 Mile,” which appeared to reference the photos and videos involving Vrabel and Russini that have circulated online since April.

“NYPost sent you a message.”
We have never seen anything like this.
💀💀💀 https://t.co/Ktge8mFAO9 pic.twitter.com/AWJtqbkiIf
The Chargers are scheduled to face the Patriots in Week 12 of the 2026 NFL season.
The NFL reportedly did not stop teams from making jokes tied to the controversy. League officials reportedly allowed franchises to decide for themselves how far to go in their schedule release content.
NFL schedule release videos have become a major online event for teams looking to entertain fans and roast rivals. The Chargers have built a reputation for producing some of the league’s most talked-about videos over the last several seasons.
This year, however, the focus quickly shifted toward the Patriots and Vrabel.
The controversy involving Vrabel and Russini has dominated NFL headlines for weeks after photos published by the New York Post appeared to show the pair together at a luxury Arizona resort before the NFL owners meetings.

— New York Post (@nypost) April 7, 2026Additional photos later published by Page Six reportedly showed the two kissing at a New York City bar in March 2020.
Both Vrabel and Russini denied infidelity after the first wave of photos surfaced and called the images “misleading.”
Russini, who previously worked for The Athletic, resigned from the company on Apr. 14. Days later, Vrabel addressed reporters before the 2026 NFL Draft and confirmed he would seek counseling.
“I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about,” Vrabel said on Apr. 23. “My family, this football team, the organization and the fans.”
“My priorities are my family and this football and in that order,” he added. “There’s a balance there that I’m going to create. My family needs me this weekend and that’s where I’ll be.”
Vrabel also described the counseling process as a “private and personal matter.”
The NFL has largely stayed away from the situation despite the growing attention surrounding the scandal and its impact on the Patriots entering the 2026 season.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell previously addressed the matter and explained why the league would not intervene.
“This is not a personal conduct policy, as we know it today,” Goodell said. “It’s a personal matter, and we’ll leave it at that.”
When asked again about the controversy, Goodell added, “I think the teams handle these matters when they’re personal matters. And they have a lot more information that can benefit everyone involved.”
The story has also moved beyond football media and into mainstream entertainment coverage.
Meanwhile, Russini was recently photographed with her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, outside their New Jersey home during Mother’s Day weekend. According to Page Six, the couple has continued appearing together publicly during the controversy.
With the Chargers now bringing the scandal into one of the NFL’s biggest offseason events, the story surrounding Vrabel and Russini appears far from over as the Patriots prepare for the 2026 campaign.

A Major Disney Park Tradition Is Changing Forever This month
For decades, pin trading has been a hallmark of the Disneyland experience—a tactile, social hobby that turns strangers into friends over a shared love of rare characters and limited editions.
However, as the parks become more crowded, the logistics of this fan-favorite activity are evolving. According to a recent report by Tom Bricker for Disney Tourist Blog, Disneyland is implementing significant policy changes designed to improve guest flow and return the hobby to its casual roots.
The most notable shift involves the long-standing "hub" near the Westward Ho Trading Co. in Frontierland. For years, this area served as an unofficial headquarters where serious collectors would often set up large binders and stationary displays on benches and tables.
According to the post, Disney is officially eliminating this stationary trading spot. Starting May 19, 2026, guests will no longer be permitted to set up permanent trading spaces anywhere in the resort. Instead, the area will transition into a "kids-only" trading zone on May 22 as part of the "Kids Rule Summer" event.
Related: Disneyland Just Dropped a Major Summer Offer—And It’s the Perfect Excuse for a Nostalgic Stay
View this post on InstagramThis move addresses growing concerns regarding park congestion. Frontierland is a major thoroughfare, and the "swap meet" atmosphere of large binder displays often created bottlenecks. Under the new guidelines, trading is still very much encouraged, but it must remain mobile. Guests are asked to limit their gear to lanyards or small handheld accessories, ensuring that walkways and seating remain available for their intended use: transit and resting.
Related: Disney’s New CEO Vows to Use AI to Take the Stress Out of Trip Planning
The updated etiquette also reinforces several key "pro" tips for a smooth experience. Only official Disney pins (marked with "©Disney") are eligible for trade, and the "two-pin maximum" per Cast Member or board remains in effect. Most importantly, the rules strictly prohibit the exchange of money, gifts, or multiple pins for one, keeping the focus on fair, one-for-one fun.
While some veteran collectors may miss the dedicated space to showcase their archives, the post suggests that these changes are a net positive for the community. By moving away from "professional" stationary setups and prioritizing accessibility for children and casual fans, Disney aims to preserve the magic of the trade. As the resort gears up for a busy summer, these updates ensure that the spirit of pin trading continues to thrive without stepping on the toes—or blocking the paths—of fellow guests.

1983 Soft Rock Anthem, Originally Written as a Joke, Became a No. 1 Hit
In 1983, a Lionel Richie song semi-comprised of lyrics that aren't even real words took the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100—and remained at No. 1 for four weeks.
The former Commodores frontman had set out to create a song that would become an international dance sensation, and while he ended up achieving the goal, he has long admitted that some of the track's words had silly beginnings—what he described as a "wonderful joke."
Six-and-a-half minutes of infectious make-your-body-move music, "All Night Long (All Night)," from his second solo album, Can't Slow Down, quickly became a smash hit—but it wasn't the quickest to come together. “It was the first time I’ve ever written a song where I didn’t have a hook. It took me months to find one,” he told TheNew York Post in 2013.
In a 2019 video with GQ, the legendary hitmaker shared the true story behind how he landed on the finishing touches of the song. "I don't have a hook," he said of realizing the track was missing something at the time. "It took me probably another month of just walking around my house and everywhere, trying to figure out, 'What is the hook to come on and sing along?' I've got to give you a sing-along."
The epiphany came to him after a visit with a Jamaican friend, following weeks of struggling to figure out what his hook would be for the rhythmic jam. He recalled pulling off a faux Caribbean accent as he was leaving his pal's home, saying he'd be going home to work on the song "all night long."
"Then I said, ‘Wait a minute. “All Night Long.”’ He looked at me like I was nuts. Sometimes, by not thinking, you find exactly what you want,” Richie added to NYP.
Then, the sounds he came upon after the chorus chants, "Come on and sing along"—some of which aren't actual words at all—resulted in the bridge: "Say, tam bo li de say de moi ya, your turn! / (Yeah, Jambo, Jambo) I say / Way to parti, o we goin', your turn!"
“That is a wonderful joke,” he admitted of the lyrics. And as the music icon explained to GQ, the rest is history.
One of the Greatest of All TimeMore than four decades after it first climbed the charts, "All Night Long (All Night)" remains a timeless anthem. The feel-good dance track was ranked among Amazon Music’s 100 Greatest Soft Rock Songsof All Time, coming in at No. 25 on the expansive list.
More hits that made the cut include Rupert Holmes‘ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”—which was also ranked among Best Beach Songs of All Time—”Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond, Billy Joel‘s “Piano Man,” entries from the great Hall & Oates, Air Supply's "All Out of Love," and many more. Taking the crown for the No. 1 Greatest Soft Rock Song of All Time on the list is Toto‘s “Africa” (1982).

1996 Hit Drama Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies’ of All Time Holds Nearly Perfect Rating
Nearly 30 years after its release, the 1996 British drama film Secrets & Lies is once again getting major attention after being ranked among the best movies of all time by Time Out.
The acclaimed film landed at No. 94 on the publication’s list of the “100 Best Movies of All Time,” placing it alongside some of cinema’s most respected titles.
Directed and written by Mike Leigh, the emotional comedy-drama continues to hold a strong reputation with critics and audiences alike. The film currently carries a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes along with a 91% audience score, making it one of the highest-rated dramas from the 1990s.
Time Out praised the film for its deeply human storytelling and unforgettable performances. The publication highlighted Leigh’s famous filmmaking process, which involves months of character exploration, improvisation, and collaborative writing before filming begins.
“Actors are the lifeblood of director Mike Leigh’s famous process,” Time Out wrote. “We recommend Leigh’s critical breakthrough, featuring nervy turns by Brenda Blethyn and Timothy Spall, as the perfect place to begin your deep dive.”
The outlet also singled out one emotional scene as the movie’s greatest moment: “After much prodding, Cynthia (Brenda Blethyn) agrees to meet with the woman claiming to be the daughter she gave up for adoption (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and over the course of a static seven-minute conversation, comes to realise she’s telling the truth.”
Released in 1996, Secrets & Lies follows Hortense, a successful Black optometrist living in London, who searches for her birth mother after the death of her adoptive mother. Her search leads her to Cynthia, a struggling white factory worker dealing with personal and family problems.
The film stars Brenda Blethyn, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Timothy Spall. Supporting performances from Phyllis Logan and Claire Rushbrook also earned praise.
The movie premiered at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or and the Best Actress prize for Blethyn. It later received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.
Blethyn also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture , Drama and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Critics praised the film for showing ordinary family struggles in a realistic and emotional way. Roger Ebert gave the film four out of four stars and wrote that “moment after moment, scene after scene, Secrets & Lies unfolds with the fascination of eavesdropping.”
He also called the film “a flowering of [Leigh's] technique.”
Meanwhile, The Guardian described the movie as “nothing short of miraculous” and praised its realistic performances and emotional depth.
One of the biggest reasons the film continues to stand out is Leigh’s unusual directing style. Instead of using a fully completed script during rehearsals, Leigh worked closely with actors for months to build their characters through improvisation.
The famous café scene between Cynthia and Hortense was filmed in one uninterrupted seven-minute take. The emotional moment became one of the most talked-about scenes in the film.
The movie also became a box office success. Produced on a budget of about $4.5 million, the film earned between $33 million and $50 million worldwide.
Over the years, Secrets & Lies has remained one of Leigh’s most celebrated films. In 1999, the British Film Institute ranked it among the 40 best British films of the 20th century.
Today, the movie’s lasting reputation, award-winning performances and emotional storytelling continue to make it a favorite among film critics and movie fans around the world.
1998 Box Office Flop, Which Made a Comeback Years Later, Ranked Among ‘Most Rewatchable Movies’ of All Time
Nearly three decades after its release, The Big Lebowski continues to grow in popularity as fans keep returning to the Coen Brothers’ cult comedy.
The film was recently ranked No. 12 on WatchMojo’s list of the “Most Rewatchable Movies of All Time,” proving that the once-divisive movie has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved late-night favorites.
When the film first hit theaters in 1998, it earned mixed reviews and only made $48.3 million worldwide against a $15 million budget. Despite its modest box office performance, the movie slowly found a second life through DVD releases, midnight screenings, streaming and fan festivals.
WatchMojo praised the movie’s strange mystery plot and unforgettable cast of characters, saying, “Jeff the Dude Lebowski may not have any idea what he's doing in the middle of a mystery plot but we absolutely love seeing him try and fail to figure it out along with all the strange people he encounters.”
Directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, the movie stars Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a laid-back bowler who gets dragged into a kidnapping scheme after being mistaken for a millionaire with the same name.
The film also features performances from John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Although audiences were unsure about the movie during its original release, many critics later changed their opinions. The film now holds a 79% critic score and a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, showing how much viewers have embraced it over the years.
Roger Ebert later upgraded his original review and added the movie to his “Great Movies” collection in 2010. He described the film as “weirdly engaging” and praised Bridges’ performance as the Dude.
The movie’s unusual mix of crime, comedy, and surreal dream scenes helped it stand out from traditional Hollywood films. Its dialogue, bowling-centered setting, and strange side characters also made it easy for fans to quote and revisit.
The story follows the Dude after two men break into his apartment and ruin his rug because they mistake him for another Jeffrey Lebowski. That small misunderstanding pulls him into a messy kidnapping case involving fake ransom drops, missing money, and dangerous criminals.
Even though the mystery becomes more chaotic as the movie goes on, many fans say the confusing plot is part of the fun. The film focuses more on the personalities and conversations between characters than on solving the crime itself.
Over time, The Big Lebowski inspired Dudeism, a lifestyle and philosophy movement based on the Dude’s relaxed outlook on life.
Many of the movie’s quotes have become famous in pop culture, especially lines connected to the Dude’s simple lifestyle and Walter Sobchak’s explosive temper.
Critics and fans also continue to praise the movie’s soundtrack, colorful dream sequences, and unforgettable supporting characters like Jesus Quintana, played by John Turturro.
The movie’s legacy grew so much that Turturro later returned as Jesus in the 2020 spin-off film The Jesus Rolls.
Even today, the movie remains one of the most discussed films from the Coen Brothers’ career. What started as a modest theatrical release has turned into a cultural favorite that new viewers continue to discover every year.
Quote of the Day: At 67, Randy Travis Proves Your Legacy Isn't About Money
On May 4, 1959, Randy Travis was born in Marshville, North Carolina—the second of six kids in a hardworking family. His father Harold worked construction and pushed his kids hard into music from the time they could hold an instrument. When you're a kid, home is supposed to be a safe place—but Harold was a violent alcoholic, so life at home was far from it.
Fortunately, Randy's mom Bobbie was the opposite. She worked at the local textile plant and took the kids to church every Sunday, doing her best to instill kindness, honesty and grace in all six of them.

Fast forward a few years. Randy wasn't even a teenager yet, but he was smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. By freshman year of high school, he was skipping class and already had a rap sheet—for everything from a DUI to public drunkenness to breaking and entering. (He once threw an alcohol-fueled party in a church.) Randy dropped out of school before the school year ended. In fact, one North Carolina judge looked him square in the eye and told him: "Come back into this courtroom one more time, and you're going to prison for a very long time."
But in 1975, 16-year-old Randy walked into a Charlotte, North Carolina nightclub called Country City USA and entered a talent contest. He won the competition and the 36-year-old owner—Lib Hatcher—hired him as a dishwasher and cook. She even let him sing onstage between shifts. When his legal troubles came to a head in 1977, it was Hatcher who went to court and fought on his behalf, formally intervening to keep him out of prison. It was the lifeline he needed to chase his dream.
Four years later, Randy packed up and moved to Nashville. He took the same job at the Nashville Palace, washing dishes, cleaning and singing for tips between orders. For almost five straight years, every major label turned him down, saying his voice was somehow "too country" for country radio.
But that rejection didn't even come close to what Randy had already survived—so he kept fighting for his dreams and in 1985, he won a deal with Warner Bros. Records.
On June 2, 1986, Randy released his debut album, Storms of Life. It sold more than four million copies and launched the neo-traditional country movement. Over the next two decades, the ninth-grade dropout with a rap sheet won seven Grammys, sold 25+ million records and as Garth Brooks said, "singlehandedly saved country music."
But on July 10, 2013, he suffered a near-fatal stroke that left him in a coma with a 1% chance of survival. Throughout his life, Randy Travis has endured, survived and overcome the unthinkable—and that's why he's today's quote of the day.
Quote of the Day by Randy TravisParade/CanvaPro
"It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go."
That line comes from Randy's 2003 #1 hit "Three Wooden Crosses"—a song that's stuck with millions of fans for over two decades. In a society that's obsessed with what we accumulate—cars, homes, bank accounts, followers—Randy is flipping this idea on its head. He's saying that your legacy is not defined by material objects or bank statements, it's built through the lives you touch, the attitude you have, and the positive things you do while you're here on earth.
Deeper Meaning of Randy Travis' Quote: What Really Defines Your LegacyJust ten years after Randy recorded "Three Wooden Crosses," he came face-to-face with his own mortality. On July 7, 2013, he suffered a near-fatal stroke that left him in a coma with a 1% chance of survival. Doctors told his then-fiancée Mary it was time to "pull the plug"—but she refused. She stood by his bedside, held his hand and told him they were going to fight. And from that day forward, Mary became his fiercest advocate, his caretaker and his voice. Randy survived, but the voice that built his career was gone.

For most artists, that likely would have been the end—the platinum records, the Grammys, the awards—they would define his legacy. But Randy understood that none of those things were ever the point. Since the stroke, he's launched the Randy Travis Foundation for stroke survivors, released his memoir in an effort to inspire others, made a Telly Award-winning documentary called More Life, and even used AI to record a brand new song with his vocals.
Perhaps his wife put it best when she told Fox News: "Life is the best rehab. Just get out there. Go do what you used to do… dance like nobody's watching and sing like nobody's listening and just have a good time. It truly is the best therapy."
That's what really defines your legacy. It's not about what you have—it's about how you choose to react to life's setbacks and how you uplift others. You don't need a Hall of Fame career or be a millionaire to build a lasting legacy. You just need to be yourself, and use your talents, personality and voice—even in simple, everyday moments—to leave your mark.

More Quotes From Randy Travis- "I've learned the importance of loving what you do. I have also learned more patience due to the nature of the music business."
- "I never thought of having platinum albums and winning awards. I just wanted to write songs and sing when I started out in the music business."
- "You don't have to get beat up as many times as I did to come to your senses. Certainly I wish I'd come to mine earlier than I did."
- "To me, country music tells a story about, and deals with, the way people live their lives and what they do."
- "You continue to evolve with each album that goes by and, as an artist, you continue to expand with every recording project."

If there’s one thing small-space living teaches you quickly, it’s that your furniture can’t afford to be lazy. If it’s taking up valuable square footage, it should be doing far more than simply looking nice. That sentiment is especially true in apartments and compact rooms, where coffee tables conceal clutter with lift-top storage, dining room tables double as desks, and entryway consoles handle everything from shoes to everyday essentials.
One of the most valuable pieces in any home is a couch that can shift along with your needs, offering upright support for sitting, a relaxed angle for lounging, and a fully flat surface when it’s time to sleep. Right now, Walmart has the Holaki Convertible Sleeper Sofa Bed on sale for $190 — a 55% discount from its original $419 price tag — and it does all of the above with ease.

Beyoncé, Pam Grier Are This '90s Actress and Soap Star's 'Role Models'
Oscar-winner Quentin Tarantino has a knack for bringing veteran actors back into the spotlight with fresh, dynamite performances.
That includes Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), who was just praised extensively by fellow Tarantino collaborator Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill) in a new interview with AARP's Movies for Grownups.
"I once got the opportunity to interview my role model," she said. "I was in tears. I named my production company, Foxy Brown Productions, after her. She was the first super strong, beautiful African American woman that I saw."
Fox continued, "[Pam] said to me, 'Why are you crying so much?' I said, 'Because I can’t believe how kind and beautiful and generous you are with your knowledge.' And she said, 'Vivica, it’s how I’m supposed to be, and I challenge you to do the same.' I’ve been passing the baton to the [next generation], and I’m always kind, because I believe a happy set is a productive set."
Fox is busy promoting Is God Is, which hits theaters this weekend. It's the latest project for the longtime actress who has starred in blockbusters like Independence Day and daytime programs like The Young and the Restless. Fox reflected on her career in speaking with AARP.
"I used to be [so focused] on the treadmill of success that I would forget to enjoy this," she said. "You start working and the phone starts ringing constantly, and then you forget to take a little time to breathe, right? You can take a little vacation, or you can go have a little bit of fun — but not too much fun, right?"
She continued, "Do everything in moderation, but enjoy the ride, because it’s beautiful. I look at some of my role models, like Beyoncé — she’s such a hard worker. I’ll never forget going to see her for the first time in France in a stadium and just kind of going, 'Wow, there are 60,000 people here to see her dreams come true.' Nowadays, everybody thinks that they can just swipe to fame. And I always say to young actors: Don’t have a moment — build a career."
Walmart's 'Pretty' $21 Vintage-Style Plant Stand 5-Pack Is the Easiest Summer Upgrade for Your Patio
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
When was the last time you really thought about where your plants are sitting? If you've never considered a plant stand, it might be time to start. Plant stands can do more than lift pots off the ground — they improve drainage and airflow, help with light exposure, and bring a more intentional feel to your setup. They're also one of the simplest ways to pull a room together, whether you're styling a living room corner, a balcony, or an entryway.
Right now, the Foukus 5-Pack Metal Plant Stand Set is on clearance, marked down from $37 to just $21. Walmart shoppers described the set as “elegant,” thanks to its wrought iron-inspired design that brings subtle vintage-style charm to any space. It includes five stands in different sizes that are suitable for a variety of plants.
Foukus 5-Pack Metal Plant Stand Set, $21 (was $37) at Walmart Shop at WalmartThe set includes five plant stands made from rustproof iron with a durable finish designed to withstand outdoor conditions. They can safely be left outdoors on a balcony, patio, or porch.
The stands come in five sizes, ranging from 8.2 to 11.4 inches in diameter and 3.9 to 11.8 inches in height, giving you plenty of options for different pot sizes and plants.
Each stand can support between 50 and 130 pounds, making them sturdy enough for everything from small succulents to heavier ceramic or terracotta pots. A raised iron ring around the edge of each stand helps keep pots securely in place, while rubber pads on the bottom protect floors and prevent slipping or scratching. Assembly is simple and tool-free — just screw the legs into the base and you’re done.
Because the stands come in graduated sizes, you can arrange them to create visual depth anywhere you want. As one Walmart shopper noted, "I can arrange my plants in various configurations, unlike the all-in-one plant stands, which I find quickly become cluttered."
Another buyer was won over by how easy the stands are to put together — and how much you can do with them. "It's such a steal! They are all so pretty and easy to assemble. You can even mix and match the legs to adjust the height!" they wrote.
If you've got kids or pets running around, you'll appreciate how sturdy these are. One shopper said the stands looked "super cute" in their entryway and that they weren't worried about kids or dogs knocking them over.
They're not just for plants, either. The stands can also work as pet bowl risers, mini display tables, or bases for small appliances and décor.
