CBS Responds After Stephen Colbert Claims He Was Blocked From Airing Interview

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:55pm

CBS shut down Stephen Colbert's claim that he was banned from having Texas state representative James Talarico on his talk show Monday night.

"The Late Show was not prohibited by CBS from broadcasting the interview with Rep. James Talarico," reads a statement from the network shared with LateNighter on Tuesday, February 17.

According to the CBS spokesperson, Colbert was "presented with legal guidance" ahead of Monday night's episode, LateNighter explained.

However, according to Colbert, who slammed the network as well as FCC chair Brendan Carr on Monday night's episode, "We were told in no uncertain terms by our network’s lawyers — who called us directly — that we could not have him on the broadcast."

"Then I was told, in some uncertain terms, that not only could I not have him on, I could not mention me not having him on," Colbert added. "And because my network clearly does not want us to talk about this, let’s talk about this."

Instead of airing the interview during Monday's episode, Colbert informed his audience that his chat with Talarico would be available on his YouTube channel after the episode.

"The Late Show decided to present the interview through its YouTube channel with on-air promotion on the broadcast rather than potentially providing the equal-time options," CBS claimed in their statement to LateNighter.

It's clear Colbert is not playing by the rules, as he has little to lose. The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will come to an end in May after CBS pulled the plug for supposed "financial" reasons.

Three Olympic Legends Reunite and Fans Are Feeling Nostalgic for 2016

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:45pm

It's an Olympic miracle! Three members of the legendary 2016 U.S. women's gymnastics team reunited for a fun video on Feb. 17, 2026, and fans are going crazy after seeing the icons together again.

"Hopping on the trend," Simone Biles captioned a TikTok video that shows her and her 2016 Team USA pals Aly Raisman and Laurie Hernandez together publicly for the first time in three years.

In the silly clip set to Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' "I Love Rock N' Roll," Biles flips off the camera with the caption "f--k u bishh" before Raisman comes on screen to say "we're so sorry!" "HAHAH NO WE'RE NOT F--K U" says the caption as Hernandez appears, once again flipping the bird and giggling.

Fans were thrilled to see the trio reunited, and took to the comments to share their excitement. "THE GIRLS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!" gushed one, while another added, "3 ICONS IN THE HOUSE [three goat emojis. href="https://parade.com/living/emoji-combos-funny-cute"]" A third wrote, "OMG THE FINAL FIVE!" while another insisted: "Okay this wins the 2016 trend."

This is the first time the three girls have seemingly met in-person together since 2023, when Biles posted a couple of photos with the caption, "grown-ish." They, along with Gabby Douglas and Madison Kocian, reached worldwide fame when they went to the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics together and absolutely crushed it. Together, they won the team event for the United States for only the third time in history, but their success didn't stop there.

Biles took home gold medals in the individual all-around, vault, and floor exercise events, plus a bronze on the balance beam. Raisman won silver medals for individual all-around and floor exercise. Hernandez snagged silver on the balance beam, while Kocian took silver in the uneven bars. Still today, the group known as the Final Five is the most decorated American Olympic gymnastics team in history.

Biles has been having a blast at the Milan Winter Olympics, from watching Ilia Malinin's figure skating performance to enjoying Valentine's Day at the games with her hubby, Jonathan Owens. Now adding a 2016 Team USA reunion to the mix, it just keeps getting better for the gymnast.

Madonna Leaves Olympic Skater Amber Glenn 'Legitimately Shaking' With 'Incredible' Message After Seeing Her 'Like a Prayer' Routine

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:44pm

Blade Angels member Amber Glenn was left "legitimately shaking" after a very "special fan" reached out to show her support ahead of the women's figure skating short program at the Winter Olympics in Milan earlier today, Feb. 17.

During a press segment with On Her Turf, Glenn was surprised with a message from an eager viewer, leaving her gobsmacked as she pressed play on the video to find none other than Madonna on her screen.

Madonna Is Rooting for a Gold Medal for Glenn

“I have to tell you, I was blown away by it,” the “Material Girl” singer revealed, referencing a video she saw of Glenn skating to a remix of her song "Like a Prayer." Glenn slapped her hand over her mouth in shock as she realized what was happening, while Madonna added, “You are an incredible skater.”

“I’m shaking,” Glenn admitted as she watched the clip, in which Madonna went on to call her “so strong, so beautiful, so brave.”

“I can’t imagine that you would not win,” she continued. “So I just want to say good luck. Go get that gold!”

Glenn was all but speechless by the time Madonna was done hyping her up, with her jaw practically on the floor as she handed the phone back over.

“Sorry, I’m in shock,” she said breathlessly. “I’m in complete shock. Oh my God, I’m legitimately shaking.”

Once she found her words, she sent a quick word of thanks back to the “queen,” praising her in her own right as “an icon” and “a legend forever.”

“Thank you for supporting athletes in their artistic ventures, and I hope I can do the song justice,” she added.

♬ original sound - On Her Turf The Routine Didn't Exactly Go to Plan During the Short Program

Glenn skated to "Like a Prayer" during her short program earlier today, finishing in 13th after bailing on a triple loop. As you might expect, Glenn was visibly upset at the end, holding it together as her score was read, sending a heart symbol and a pair of waves at the camera before dropping her head into her hands and crying.

"I don't know what happened, I had it," she could be heard saying in the Kiss-and-Cry, according to USA Today.

Madonna's video was sent prior to the start of the short program, based on the timing of the post, suggesting she was likely referencing an earlier video of Glenn, who has been using the routine all season.

Fans Sympathized With Glenn on Both Counts

The timing left fans feeling for Glenn, with one commenting, "Ugh I hate watching this after what just happened. Much love to Amber Glenn."

"Her reaction broke my heart!! Cried right with her 😭," another followed up, as someone else hyped, "She deserves the win. I love her so much!!!"

"Love how she couldn't even breathe! What an honor. They're both stars in their own arenas," another fan praised both women, with another TikToker commenting, "oh i’m gonna cry this is so special."

Next up for Glenn is the free skate, which takes place on Thursday, Feb. 19, but, unfortunately, it will take a miracle to medal following the loss of points from today's bail.

11 Best Blow-Dryer Brushes To Simplify Your Beauty Routine, Tested by Stylists

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:31pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you've ever gotten a professional blowout, you've likely been amazed by how effortlessly your hairstylist juggles a blow-dryer and hair brush simultaneously. When you've attempted to recreate the magic at home, you've probably discovered that it never turns out quite the same. We're all for mastering the art of the at-home blowout, but we're also fans of beauty hacks that make life easier, so Parade reached out to two professional hairstylists to get their picks for the best hair dryer brushes to simplify your beauty routine.

Before we start naming names, though, we were also curious to know if a blow-dryer brush is worth the investment and how it's different from regular blow-dryers. So we tapped the expertise of Lia Hakim, the owner of Hott Salons & Hot Franchising in Westchester, NY, and Gio Vacarro, the co-founderof Glamsquad, a company that provides on-demand, in-home makeup, hair and nail services.

While chatting with these hair experts, we picked up a few handy tips for using a blow-dryer brush on your own to rival that salon blowout that makes you feel like a million bucks. With their advice and product recommendations, you'll be on your way to scoring plenty of compliments.

Regular Blowdryers vs. Hair-Dryer Brushes: What's the Difference?

Blowdryers are a beauty device that most of us have lying around at home, but they're different from hair-dryer brushes. "A regular blow-dryer is a hot (or cold) air stream that dries the hair at a faster rate and uses nozzles/diffusers for different styling techniques. A hair-dryer brush combines drying and styling," Hakim tells Parade.

Per Vacarro, the two devices "share a common goal" (aka drying hair). "But how they do it and the results you get are meaningfully different," he says.

On the one hand, traditional blow-dryers are best for "technical precision" and can offer "sleek straightening, layered styles and customized finishes." However, they require skill since you're balancing two tools, and using both can often take more time.

Hair-dryer brushes, meanwhile, combine drying and shaping in one tool. "This is great for people who want fast, polished blowouts with less effort," Vacarro says.

They're ideal for everyday looks and occasions when you want to add "smoothness, bounce and volume" to your hair without "mastering multiple tools."

Top Hair-Dryer Brushes Tips for Using a Blow-Dryer Brush

Whether you've never used a blow-dryer brush or you're looking for ways to improve your skills, here are a few tips the pros provided.

  • Rough dry the hair first: "Rough dry the hair first or air dry until it's about 70% dry. Starting on sopping wet hair will take longer for it to dry and most likely damage the hair or make it look frizzy rather than sleek," Hakim says.
  • Protect your hair: "Use a heat protectant as blow dry brushes use a lot of heat directly on the hair," Hakim says.
  • Section hair strategically: "Divide into panels (top, sides, back). Smaller sections mean smoother, more consistent drying," Vacarro says.
  • Clean the brush often: "Remove hair and buildup so airflow stays optimal and bristles perform well," Vacarro says.
  • Finish with cool air: "A cool blast seals the cuticle, reduces frizz and adds shine," Vacarro says.
  • Customize heat to hair type: "Use lower heat for fine or color-treated hair and higher heat for thick or coarse hair," Vacarro says.

Vacarro describes this blow-dryer brush as a "top-tier option stylists reach for when they want fast, sleek blowouts with volume and shine."

"Ceramic technology helps smooth frizz while preserving hair integrity. It's ideal for clients who regularly style at home," he says, adding that the brush works well for all hair types.

Hakim calls this blow-dryer brush "classic and well-loved" and appreciates the affordable pricetag.

"I like how this has a ceramic coating which helps protect the hair from excessive heat. It's also very lightweight, which is always a plus to any tool," she says.

The oval brush features nylon pin and tufted bristles and works quickly to smooth and detangle hair while adding volume. There are two heat and speed settings plus a cooling option.

This blow-dryer brush is a "cult classic," according to Vacarro.

"This tool popularized the hot-air brush trend. It delivers effortless volume and smoothness with minimal learning curve, making it perfect for everyday use and beginners," he notes.

Whether you're on a budget or aren't ready to commit to a luxury blow-dryer brush, Vacarro says this model offers great value for everyday use. Notable features include ceramic titanium tourmaline technology that minimizes heat damage, four heat settings, a long-lasting motor and a sleek handle.

Best for Volume: L'ange Multi-Volume Series 2-in-1 Interchangeable Brush Dryer, $99

Ulta

"I like this one because it combines a hair dryer and a style-sculpting thermal brush. It's great for creating smooth and voluminous styles," Hakim says.

For under $100, you'll get a blow-dryer brush that has several convenient features, including tug-resistant bristles, ionic technology that minimizes frizz and three heat settings. It also comes with a protective cover and a cleaning brush.

Best for Frizz: Amika Blowout Babe Thermal Ionic Hairbrush, $100

Amazon

Nothing ruins all your hair handiwork quite as much as frizz. Luckily, Vacarro says this thermal brush can help minimize those pesky flyaways after you rough dry your hair.

Though you should be sure the hair is almost dry before using, "it's a stylish and solid performer with good grip and control. This brush cuts down on frizz while shaping waves and adding volume. It's a great mid-range option for clients who want a step up from entry tools without going luxury," he explains.

The ceramic barrel and ionic generator combine forces to whip strands into shape with far-infrared heat while also tackling static and frizz.

Best for Shine: Shark Glossi 2-in-1 Hot Tool and Air Glosser, $130

Ulta

Both Vacarro and Hakim are fans of this blow-dryer brush.

"It has a wet mode and dry mode. The wet mode is for damp hair and the dry mode is perfect for touching up a blowout or for reducing frizz from air drying. If your hair tends to be frizzier, this one is a great pick," Hakim says.

Meanwhile, Vacarro is fond of the brush's "ceramic plates and strong airflow," which offer "glossy, frizz-controlled blowouts" without "excessive heat damage."

Best Detangler: InfinitiPRO By Conair The Knot Dr. Detangling Compact Mini Hot Air Brush, $56

Ulta

"This is another great affordable option. The oval design makes it perfect for blowouts and the bristles help with detangling as you dry and style," Hakim says.

The brush features 120 Flexalite bristles with epoxy tips for comfort. The end result? Easy detangling without tugging. Additionally, tourmaline ceramic helps fend off frizz.

Best for Straightening: Shark HT202 SmoothStyle Heated Comb + Blow Dryer Brush, $150

JCPenney

Vacarro recommends giving this blow-dryer brush a try. "It combines heated smoothing plates with airflow for a sleek finish. It's great for clients who want quick straightening and blowout effects without juggling too many tools," he says.

Thanks to the comb's design, hair absorbs less heat, per the brand. The nylon and boar bristles also help smooth locks while adding shine.

Best for Smoothing: T3 AireBrush One-Step Smoothing and Volumizing Hair Dryer Brush, $150

Dermstore

"I like this one because of its three heat and two speed settings, which allows for personalization depending on your hair type. The oval brush shape is perfect for creating flippy and voluminous blowouts," Hakim says.

If you're looking for even airflow and uniform heat distribution, the brush has you covered since it can dry strands quickly while still protecting them.

Best Brush Attachments: CHI Round Rose Gold Blowout Brush, $124

CHI

"This one is great because it has three different brush attachments. It has ceramic technology and an advanced ion generator inside for locking in moisture and reducing frizz," Hakim says.

Suitable for all hair lengths, the brush has a 1000-watt motor to help dry hair quickly. Other useful features include a tangle-free swivel cord and three heat settings.

Trader Joe’s Just Gave Its Mini Sheet Cake a Tropical Twist

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:28pm

Another day, another yummy product rollout at Trader Joe’s. Enter: the Toasted Coconut Mini Sheet Cake. This new sweet treat, available now through April, is sure to add a little tropical flair to the last legs of this gloomy wintertime and the sunny start of spring.

Based on Trader Joe’s official description, the Coconut Mini Sheet Cake stands out from the other eight with its tropical coconut twist. Coconut milk makes the cake extra tender and flavorful, while toasted coconut flakes throughout add texture, a hint of caramelized nuttiness, and a boost of coconut flavor in both the cake and cream cheese frosting.

Trader Joe’s eight other mini sheet cakes include Chantilly Cream Vanilla Bean, Dark Chocolate Ganache, Pumpkin Spice, Carrot, Lemon, Strawberry, Yellow, and Cookies ’n Cream.

Retailing for $5.99, the cake serves six, at 320 calories per serving … but who’s counting?

If you haven’t been able to find the new selection at your Trader Joe’s location yet, don’t fret! The Toasted Coconut Mini Sheet Cake should be available starting this week at stores nationwide.

Even if formal reviews from Trader Joe’s shoppers aren’t in just yet, it’s safe to say everyone is beyond excited — and nervous for their waistlines.

“They need to be stopped. I can’t keep ignoring new flavors like this,” one user wrote via Reddit. “I was able to resist Cookies ’n Cream, but I’m buying 10 of these,” added another.

“I’m actually glad I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s. This looks too good!” a third person chimed in, while a fourth echoed, “I want this with crushed pineapple on top ASAP.”

Some TJ shoppers also expressed their disappointment at the Toasted Coconut Mini Sheet Cake not being available gluten-free. As it stands, the only mini sheet cake from Trader Joe’s that’s gluten-free is the Yellow Mini Sheet Cake with chocolate frosting.

Jelly Roll’s Wife Bunnie Xo Shares Emotional Family Update: ‘We’re Going to Raise These Babies in Love’

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:27pm

Jelly Roll, 41, and his wife Bunnie Xo, 46, share plenty of dreams, but one of the biggest ones they’ve spoken about publicly in recent years is becoming parents together to babies, who share their DNA.

The married couple, who share custody of Jelly Roll’s two kids from previous relationships — Bailee Ann, 17, and Noah Buddy, 9 — have been open and honest about their difficult journey with trying to expand their family. In past interviews and on Instagram, the celebrities have talked about Bunnie Xo undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), and she even discussed that emotional experience on her popular Dumb Blonde podcast.

The Pair Began Their Journey Toward Having Kids in 2019

In her new memoir, Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, and according toPeople, Bunnie Xo revealed she and Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, began their fertility journey on Oct. 31, 2019, writing, “I can’t help but giggle because a Halloween date is so fitting for us. I call us ‘the Addams family’ of country music.”

Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord,  also noted, “I’ve waited this long to have kids with someone I knew would be a great father— and to be able to make sure they have the best life.”

Now, their wait is nearly over.

The model and influencer has revealed she and the “Save Me” singer have taken the next major step toward making their baby dreams come true. They’ve found a surrogate, someone who she describes as an amazing and “selfless” human being.

"Now that we’re finally stable financially and somewhat emotionally after all the healing we’ve done over this decade together, we’re talking about the future, including growing our family,” she wrote in the book, according to the outlet. “J and I have a surrogate, the sweetest woman ever, and soon I’ll be starting my IVF stims.”

IVF stimulation is a key phase of in vitro fertilization in which hormone medications are used to encourage the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs during a single cycle. The goal is to maximize the number of eggs available for retrieval, increasing the chances of creating healthy embryos.

They Hope to Have Twins

In addition to finding someone to carry their babies, Bunnie Xo shared that she and Jelly Roll, who tied the knot in 2016, have their hearts set on twins.

“We’re going to raise these babies in love and give them everything we were never given. I can’t wait to see a piece of me and him running around outside of our bodies,” Bunnie Xo writes. “With how much IVF has advanced over the years and with the help of the most unselfish woman willing to carry twins for us, we’ll be able to make our baby dreams come true.”

This Better-for-You Pantry Brand Is Entering the Grass-Fed Dairy Game

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:25pm

When you think of healthy pantry staples, "rich and indulgent" isn't always the first thing that comes to mind. But what if your salad dressing could be creamy, flavorful and still made with thoughtful ingredients you actually want in your kitchen? One beloved better-for-you brand is about to make that a reality.

Primal Kitchen, known for bold flavors and real-food ingredients, is introducing a new line of grass-fed dairy dressings. These aren't your standard "light" versions—these are creamy, satisfying and designed to bring full-on flavor back to the dressing aisle.

Classic Favorites, Reimagined

The lineup includes three twists on familiar flavors: a cool, herby tzatziki; a nutty, rich Romano; a creamy buttermilk ranch. Each uses grass-fed dairy paired with avocado oil, giving every bite a silky texture and indulgent taste that doesn't feel heavy or artificial. Whether you drizzle it over a salad, dip fresh veggies or use it to jazz up a sandwich, the flavor is unmistakable.

Related: I Tried the Salad Jane Fonda Calls 'Delicious' and I'll Be Making It All Winter Long

Fans of classic dressings will notice the difference immediately. The tzatziki balances refreshing cucumber with a smooth, creamy base. The Romano features nutty depth without overwhelming, and the buttermilk ranch hits a perfect tangy, herb-forward note. It's indulgence without compromise—flavor first, but better-for-you ingredients all the way.

How to Enjoy Them

These new dressings aren't just for salads, though that is one delicious use. Consider using them as a dipping sauce for crispy roasted veggies, a creamy topper for grain bowls or a marinade for chicken or tofu. Shelf-stable and pantry-ready, they're perfect for keeping flavor on hand.

Available now, these grass-fed dairy dressings can be found at Whole Foods Market and on PrimalKitchen.com, with a wider rollout planned this spring at retailers like Sprouts Farmers Market and Thrive Market. They make it easy to enjoy creamy, bold flavor without any of the usual guilt.

For anyone who's ever thought "better-for-you" meant bland, think again. Each dressing delivers that creamy, craveable experience you actually want on your plate, with no artificial shortcuts. From the bright, herby notes of the tzatziki to the rich, savory punch of the Romano and the tangy freshness of buttermilk ranch, every spoonful is made to excite your taste buds. It's a reminder that wholesome ingredients don't have to be boring—they can be downright delicious.

Kid Rock's New Shirtless Video with RFK Jr. Leaves Fans With One Burning Question

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:16pm

Kid Rock and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are back at it again.

The unlikely duo, who hung out together at Kid Rock's home in Nashville earlier this month, recently teamed up for a new workout video on social media, which had internet users asking all sorts of questions.

While many viewers already have mixed opinions about the controversial duo, there was one point in the video that seems to have several users utterly stumped: Kennedy's choice of workout gear.

In the clip posted to X (formerly Twitter) by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Kennedy and Kid Rock both appear shirtless as they take viewers through a workout routine, which they call "Secretary Kennedy and Kid Rock's Rock Out Work Out."

The HHS Secretary, whose motto is "Make America Healthy Again," can be seen wearing a pair of jeans as he partakes in various types of exercise with Kid Rock in the video, which shows the pair hitting the gym, working out in a sauna and drinking glasses of whole milk while sitting in a pool.

But not only is Kennedy seen working out in a pair of jeans, but he even dunks into the cold plunge with his jeans on. He also wears the jeans to play pickleball, and is still wearing them when he jumps in the pool at the end of the workout.

"Who wears jeans in a pool?" one user questioned, while another asked, "Do you own a pair of swim trunks?"

"Wearing jeans to workout in is a choice...wearing them into a cold plunge is even more deranged," someone else wrote.

Another noted, "Bobby loves his jeans."

"Has anyone seen the Secretary of HHS? Oh sure, he’s in kid rock’s indoor pool chugging whole milk in his jeans creating content for social media," someone else quipped.

Meanwhile, Kennedy, 72, wrote in the caption of the video: "I’ve teamed up with @KidRock to deliver two simple messages to the American people: GET ACTIVE + EAT REAL FOOD."

IKEA Is Selling a Vibrant 2-Pack of Serving Bowls That Will Brighten Up Your Kitchen Counter

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:05pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

This isn't a question I ask myself all that often, but, seriously, what would we do without IKEA? When you need affordable housewares that don't feel boring (and come in some of the prettiest, poppiest colors around), it's basically the first place that comes to mind. There's something about walking through those aisles (or scrolling late at night) and spotting a hit of sunny yellow or punchy magenta that makes you rethink your entire "I only buy neutrals" philosophy.

Even if your home leans warm and cozy or cool and minimal, it's hard not to be lured in by a joyful color moment. And the beauty of it is that you don't have to commit to a full Technicolor overhaul. Sometimes all it takes is a small pop, like a bowl on the counter, a stack of plates on open shelving, or a little flash of brightness in an otherwise calm kitchen.

IKEA is selling its ÅKERHALLON bamboo serving bowls in a set of two, and the colors are so pretty. One is a baby blue; the other a gorgeous purple. The set costs $12.99, and the bowls work just as well keeping fruit at the ready on a countertop as they are for serving up popcorn on movie nights.

ÅKERHALLON Set of 2 Bamboo Serving Bowls, $12.99 at IKEA

IKEA

People like bamboo for tableware because it's lightweight but sturdy, so it can handle everyday use without feeling flimsy. It's also a fast-growing, renewable material, which gives it a more eco-friendly appeal than some plastics. Aesthetically, bamboo has a warm, natural look that makes a table feel relaxed and inviting.

Of course, the one downside to bamboo is that these pieces are hand-wash only. Do not, and I repeat, do not try to put bamboo bowls in the dishwasher. This will not work out well for you or the bowls.

Shoppers are really digging these bowls, both for their versatility and the vibrant hues.

"Beautiful bowls that we use in a variety of ways," wrote one reviewer on IKEA.com. "Bring color to the table. Easy to clean with hand washing. Use them for the children, snacks, salad and dessert."

They aren't the only ones who enjoy a splash of color. "A beautiful addition to my kitchen," added another shopper on IKEA.com. "I love color!"

That's the magic of IKEA. You can get playful, practical pieces that let you experiment without the financial regret. And right now, these bamboo bowls are making a very strong case for adding just a little more color to your everyday routine.

Wildly Popular Mommy Influencer Shows Off 'Amazing' Face Lift Results

"3 months post-op and still so glad I did this," she wrote on Instagram beside the video, which shows her just before the surgery compared to how she looks now, three months later. "A personal choice, for me and only me — and I’m happy I shared the journey with you."

Anderson also thanked her Newport Beach, California-based plastic surgeon, Jonathan Zelken, "for being the best in every way." The mommy influencer applauded him for listening, being honest, answering all of her questions, and caring about her.

This is not the first time the social media star has gone under the knife. Unfortunately, her first facelift was unsuccessful and she wasn't happy with the results. in November 2025, she opened up about why she tried again.

"Like they say: You're not ugly, I just had a facelift… Well actually two of them!!" she wrote on Instagram at the time. "After my first failed attempt, I'm so happy I found @jonathanzelkenmd. There is nobody better."

The star said she felt "soo amazing" after the second surgery, even though she still had "a lot of healing to do" at the time, and fans were thrilled to have another update on how she was looking and feeling three months later.

"Literally this is amazing!!!!!!!!" said one fan, while another wrote, "You look like you but refreshed & glowed UP, girl." A third added, "Beautiful before and after! But I totally understand, confidence! So happy for you!!! You look amazing."

While Anderson has been very open about her plastic surgery journey, she's made sure to stress that it was a personal, but unnecessary, choice every step of the way. "I'm not saying anybody needs to do this," she wrote. "I did it for me, and I just wanted to be transparent."

Anderson and her kids rose to fame in the 2010s, when Anderson started sharing photos and videos of her children, Kaitlin, Finn, Charles, and spunky twins Mila and Emma. The family began sharing hilarious videos of the two youngest, and they quickly amassed millions of Instagram followers, even getting their own kids' line at Target!

"For us, it's just wanting to be funny and lighthearted and not too serious. That's what I think people need right now," Anderson told E! in 2019. "Those are the kinds of messages I get like, 'Oh, I'm so thankful that you're just like real', not so, you know, serious about stuff. For me it's just being positive and funny and real."

These days, Anderson boasts more than 3 million followers on Instagram and more than 2 million on YouTube.

7 Celebrity Restaurants That Failed Spectacularly (And Why They Closed)

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:55pm

Celebrity status offers a massive marketing head start, but in the brutal landscape, fame is often a recipe for financial disaster. Many stars find that "star power" cannot fix a broken business model.

Failures usually stem from a "hype-first" approach that neglects razor-thin margins. While a famous name packs the house during opening month, it cannot offset the reality of soaring labor costs and supply chain volatility. Investors often over-leverage these projects, betting on expansion before the flagship is stable. When novelty wears off and the math doesn't add up, even the biggest icons are served a reality check.

While there are plenty of celebs who have been able to withstand the issues that come along with opening up a restaurant to the public, there are a few that just couldn't cut it—even if the food was good. So, if you've ever wondered just what happened to your favorite celeb's foray into the food world, we've done a little digging to figure out why these celebrity restaurants failed.

7 Celebrity Restaurants That Failed1. Kevin Costner: The Clubhouse (1999-2009) Kevin Costner

ShutterStock.com

The Clubhouse, Kevin Costner’s golf-themed venture in Costa Mesa, eventually shuttered in 2009 after a decade-long run that was plagued by identity crises and economic headwinds. Despite its star-studded backing (including Robert Wagner and Jack Nicklaus), the restaurant struggled early on with operational inefficiency and a confusing business model—initially attempting an ultra-exclusive $50,000 "membership" concept before pivoting to a more accessible public format.

While it enjoyed a period of popularity, the parent company was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy as early as 2001, and the brand never fully recovered its momentum. By the time it closed permanently on New Year’s Eve in 2009, the "celebrity restaurant" luster had faded, and the Great Recession had severely dampened the high-end dining market in Orange County.

2. Steven Spielberg: Dive! (1994-Early 2000s) Steven Allan Spielberg

Shutterstock.com

In the mid-1990s, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg attempted to capitalize on the "eatertainment" craze by launching Dive!, a high-concept, submarine-themed restaurant. The flagship Century City location featured a massive yellow submarine hull jutting out of the building, torpedo-shaped barstools and a periscope that allowed diners to peer out at the city. Every 45 minutes, the restaurant simulated a "dive sequence" with sirens, flashing red lights and bubbling water in the portholes to mimic submersion.

Despite the star-powered opening and an initial surge of curiosity, the novelty wore off quickly; critics found the food (primarily variations on submarine sandwiches) mediocre, and the over-stimulating environment proved exhausting for repeat customers. Ultimately, the business model relied too heavily on merchandise sales that never materialized, leading the chain to sink and close its final locations by the early 2000s.

3. Britney Spears: Nyla (2002) Britney Spears

Shutterstock.com

NYLA (a portmanteau of New York and Louisiana) was Britney Spears’ short-lived venture into the restaurant industry, opening in June 2002 at the Dylan Hotel in Manhattan. Designed to bring southern comfort food to the Big Apple, the restaurant became a textbook example of why the industry is so difficult to navigate: it suffered from massive budget overruns, identity crises (switching from Cajun to Italian menu items mid-stream) and multiple health code violations.

Britney officially severed ties with the establishment just five months after it opened, citing mismanagement and a lack of transparency from her partners. The restaurant closed permanently shortly thereafter, serving as a reminder that even global stardom cannot insulate a business from the brutal operational realities of the culinary world.

4. Justin Timberlake: Chi, Destino, & Southern Hospitality (2003-Mid 2000s; 2006-2013; 2007-2009) Justin Timberlake

Shutterstock.com

Justin Timberlake’s involvement with Chi, Destino and Southern Hospitality represents his early career foray into the "celebrity restaurateur" world, illustrating just how difficult it is to sustain success in the industry even with massive star power.

His first venture, the Asian-fusion restaurant Chi in West Hollywood (opened in 2003), closed quickly after failing to find its footing. He had better luck in New York with Destino—an Italian eatery—and the Memphis-style BBQ spot Southern Hospitality (opened in 2007), which capitalized on his Tennessee roots. However, by 2009, Timberlake began distancing himself from the daily operations and ownership of these brands, highlighting a common trend where celebrities often transition from active partners to "co-creators" or silent investors to avoid the reputational risks associated with the industry's high failure rates.

5. Café Dupri: Jermaine Dupri (2005-2008) Jermaine Dupri

Getty Images

Jermaine Dupri’s Café Dupri is a textbook example of how even celebrity backing can't shield a restaurant from a volatile economy and poor operational management. Opened in Atlanta in 2005 with a focus on "health-conscious" fare—a rarity for celebrity spots at the time—it abruptly shuttered in 2008.

Dupri largely blamed the ailing U.S. economy and a dip in consumer spending for the closure, famously stating, "If it doesn't make money, it doesn't make sense." However, the shutdown was mired in controversy; employees arrived to find "closed indefinitely" signs and later alleged that their paychecks had been bouncing for weeks. While the vision was unique, the combination of high overhead in Buckhead and internal financial instability ultimately made it unsustainable.

6. T.I: Scale 925 (2015-2016) T.I

T.I.’s upscale Atlanta restaurant, Scales 925 opened in 2015 to much fanfare, but shuttered just a year later in 2016 following a cascade of scandals—including a $1 million eviction notice for unpaid rent and multiple lawsuits from former employees. These workers alleged a toxic environment involving unpaid wages, bounced checks and coerced off-the-clock labor, claiming that T.I.’s business partner, Charles Hughes, was diverting restaurant funds into his personal accounts.

While T.I. eventually settled the wage disputes for roughly $100,000 and distanced himself from Hughes, the venture serves as a cautionary tale that celebrity branding cannot save a business from fundamental failures in leadership and financial oversight.

7. Flavor Flav: Flav's Fried Chicken (2011) Flavor Flav

Shutterstock.com

Flavor Flav’s foray into the restaurant world, Flav’s Fried Chicken (FFC), opened in January 2011 in Clinton, Iowa, but the flagship location lasted only four months before shuttering in April. The collapse was fueled by a messy, public feud between Flav and his business partner, Nick Cimino, involving allegations of bounced paychecks, "expired potato salad" and a lack of restaurant experience.

While Flav intended to build a national franchise to rival KFC, the venture was ultimately grounded by a total breakdown in trust and basic operational oversight, illustrating that even a world-famous brand name can’t save a restaurant if the "back of house" is in chaos.

‘Star Trek’ Legend, 72, Pushes Back at Critics of New 'Trek' Shows

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:52pm

Actor Robert Picardo, 72, is coming to the defense of newer Star Trek shows.

In a January 2026 interview with Reel School, Picardo, who has played The Doctor, an  Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH), in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, shared his thoughts about the science-fiction franchise's long-lasting legacy. He noted that Star Trek: The Original Series, which debuted in 1966, brought a sense of optimism and stories of inclusion.

"Star Trek was founded during the turbulent '60s at a moment of real cultural and political turmoil. And I think that at times when you have that same critical amount of cultural and political turmoil, the world needs Star Trek more than ever," said the actor, who joined Star Trek: Voyager during its first season, which premiered in 1995.

Picardo then said he's aware that the newer Star Trek series, like Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, have received backlash.

"I've heard some fans say that Star Trek has gone too far in its diversity and inclusion," said Picardo during the January 2026 interview. "I completely disagree with that. Why should our idea of diversity and inclusion in 2026, be the same as it was in 1966? 60 years later, we've all evolved. Humanity's evolved. The world's changed. So Star Trek is as diverse and inclusive as it has ever been, as it should be. Because Star Trek leads. Science fiction dreams the dream and then science catches up with the dream."

In addition, he said he believes that "Star Trek leads our imagination and posits a better future."

"I think that's what Starfleet Academy is all about optimism for our future, training a new generation of leaders in space. So, you know, what could be better for this moment in time?" continued the actor.

The first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which also stars Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Sandro Rosta, andTig Notaro, premiered on January 15, 2026.

I Tried Jerry Seinfeld’s 'Vintage' 90s Cookie Recipe—and the Secret Ingredient Is Genius

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:47pm

When you make a vintage recipe, whether you discovered it tucked in your grandmother’s recipe box or it resurfaced on Reddit, I've found that it can go one of two ways: a lovely little surprise or a complete disaster. There’s rarely a middle ground, which is part of the thrill (and the risk).

And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 1990s are now considered vintage (I know, I know). While perusing the Reddit thread r/OldCelebrityRecipes, I got serious 90s flashbacks when a seemingly simple cookie recipe attributed to Seinfeld creator and star Jerry Seinfeld popped up, stopping me mid-scroll.

Seinfeld's Coffee-Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe was originally printed in the book Celebrity Recipes way back in good old 1995 and the photo on Reddit seemed to be from a magazine of the era, complete with a small inset image of Seinfeld in a tuxedo. Seeing his face inspired the show's theme song to play in my head.

And the recipe? It caught my eye because it was refreshingly straightforward: standard pantry ingredients, mixed by hand, baked on ungreased baking sheets, and…voila! It seemed destined to be an instant classic. Naturally, folks over on Reddit had thoughts. One commenter joked, “What’s the deal with coffee chip cookies?” (Well played.)

As a Seinfeld fan, a '90s girl and an avid home baker, I was intrigued by the recipe, so I decided to try it exactly as printed. I grabbed the butter and sugar, preheated the oven and got ready to find out if this vintage celebrity cookie was a charming throwback—or just another relic best left in the archives.

What Are Jerry Seinfeld’s Coffee-Chocolate Chip Cookies?

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

Jerry Seinfeld’s coffee-chocolate chip cookies are classic drop cookies with a subtle twist: he adds a teaspoon of instant coffee to the dough. The recipe combines both brown sugar and white sugar (the classic combo for balanced texture in chocolate chip cookies) along with the other simple ingredients. There’s also a pretty generous amount of chocolate chips in these, ensuring that no bites are left plain.

Two details in the recipe felt like throwbacks to me. One, the recipe calls for mixing the dough by hand, which I haven't done in ages because I'm firmly in my stand mixer era. I also noticed that the portions were very modest for these cookies, which is a nice switch up from the giant face-size cookies we’ve seen in recent years.

To make Jerry Seinfeld’s coffee-chocolate chip cookies, you’ll need brown sugar, white sugar, unsalted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, baking soda, all-purpose flour, salt, chocolate chips and instant coffee.

To make these cookies, start by preheating the oven to 400°. In a large bowl (or a large liquid measuring cup, as I did), mix the brown sugar, white sugar and butter by hand until combined, then add the eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, stir together the baking soda, flour and salt. Slowly stir the dry ingredients into the butter-sugar mixture, then add the chocolate chips and instant coffee.

Scoop tablespoon-size balls of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. (Keep in eye on the cookies in case they're done sooner.)

My Honest Thoughts About These Cookies

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

I was super excited to try these cookies. As an avid Seinfeld fan, I wanted to see how they would stack up next to my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe. After baking up a batch (which took only 20 minutes start-to-finish, by the way), I can confidently say that this is one straightforward and fairly foolproof recipe.

They’re the perfect Goldilocks cookie: not too big, not too small; not too chewy, not too crisp. The cookies didn’t spread much in the oven so I was able to fit a full dozen per baking sheet, which makes this a pretty efficient recipe. I also loved that they baked up in less than 10 minutes and left me feeling satisfied but not like I overindulged (wasn’t that also a '90s thing?!).

The flavor is a classic chocolate chip cookie with that unmistakable twist of coffee, which complements the cookie rather than competing with the chocolate. The coffee is there to turn up the flavor on the chocolate rather than make this a full-on mocha dessert. My only suggestion to make these even better would be to add a bit of flaky salt on top, which is a very modern move.

I also have a note on the bake time. While Seinfeld is famous for its impeccable comedic timing, unfortunately, the timing of these cookies is a bit off. The first batch I made burned terribly, something I attribute to a well-loved, darker baking sheet and the full Seinfeld-suggested 12 minutes in the oven.

For my second batch, I switched to a lighter cookie sheet and set my timer for 8 minutes, and they came out absolutely perfect. There’s nothing trendy or flashy about these cookies, but they deliver a dependable treat that works when you need something quick that won’t fail. Sometimes it’s best not to mess with the classics.

Jesse Jackson's Net Worth Was Nothing Compared to His Impact on History

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:43pm

Rev. Jesse Jackson made a huge mark on the world before his passing.

Jackson died on Feb. 17, 2026, at age 84 following a decade-plus battle with Parkinson's disease.

The civil rights icon was part of several huge moments in history: He was with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he marched in Selma, Alabama, as well as when Dr. King was murdered; he was a hostage negotiator and diplomat and the second Black candidate to ever run in a Democratic presidential primary.

Jackson, who advocated for racial, social and economic justice, as well as for labor rights, education and healthcare and against war and the American military industrial complex (but not against the military troops themselves, for whom he also advocated and at times even rescued). When asked, he said that he dedicated his life to expanding “the American consciousness to include women and Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and common people more and more.”

"My race is self-evident," he said in a 1988 interview. "My leadership qualities are obvious."

Jackson maintained a strong political presence despite never holding elected office thanks to his work with the PUSH and Rainbow Coalitions, at the pulpit and with his campaign endorsements and continued fight for global human rights.

Was he as rich in material wealth as he was in history? Here's what we know about Jesse Jackson's net worth and how he made it.

How did Jesse Jackson rise to national prominence?

Jackson was born Jesse Louis Burns on Oct. 8, 1941, in segregated Greenville, South Carolina. Jackson's biological father was former boxer Noah Louis Robinson.

When he was two years old, his mother married Charles Henry Jackson, who adopted Jesse and gave him his last name. Jesse maintained relationships with both his biological and adoptive father.

Jackson exceled athletically and academically in his segregated high school and accepted a football scholarship to the then-segregated University of Illinois, but felt so isolated because of his race that he transferred to the historically black North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

In July 1960, Jackson and seven others were arrested after entering the "whites only" library in Greenville. While the group was jailed, their demonstration worked: A lawyer sued on their behalf and the library desegregated within two months.

While studying at the HBCU, Jackson grew involved in local civil rights activism, inspired by the Greensboro sit-ins. When he graduated in 1964 with a sociology bachelor's, he enrolled in Chicago Theological Seminary, but dropped out after two years to focus on activism.

In 1965, Jackson marched with Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in Selma, Alabama. King appointed Jackson leader of the Chicago arm of their Operation Breadbasket initiative in 1966, then as national director the following year.

Jackson was with Dr. King when he was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Jackson recalled holding Dr. King's head in his hands as he died, and in the following days gave interviews wearing a sweater stained with the late civil rights hero's blood.

Three years later, Jackson resigned from the SCLC and Operation Breadbasket to found his People United to Save Humanity (PUSH) Coalition (which later changed its name to People United to Serve Humanity) and served as its executive director through 1986.

In 1979, Jackson visited South Africa and the West Bank to advocate for the end of apartheid and the creation of a Palestinian state. Four years later, he visited Syria to negotiate the release of an American pilot shot down in the country.

Jackson announced his first run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1983, but didn't win the party's primary in 1984. In 1986, he founded the Rainbow Coalition, which aimed to liberate and support rights for Black, Latino, LGBTQ+ communities. He later merged the Rainbow Coalition into the PUSH Coalition.

Jackson once more ran in the Democratic primary for president in 1988, but lost. In 1992, he launched his CNN show, Both Sides With Jesse Jackson.

During the first Gulf War, Jackson personally negotiated with Saddam Hussein to release hundreds of Americans and other captives from Iraq. During President Bill Clinton's term, Jackson negotiated the release of three American pilots from Serbia in 1999 and served as the president's spiritual adviser during his cheating scandal and impeachment. Clinton awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Jackson remained vocal politically for the aughts, opposing the Iraq War in 2003 and supporting President Barack Obama's campaigns, though they were bittersweet for him. He said in an interview after Obama's first election that the first Black president "ran the last lap of a 60-year race."

In 2016, Jackson supported Hillary Clinton for President. Jackson later backed the progressive wing of the Democratic party and endorsed Bernie Sanders (who'd backed him in 1988) in 2020.

Though Jackson himself never held an elected office, he made it clear in 1988 what his role was: "an agent for change."

What was Jesse Jackson's net worth at the time of his death?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Jesse Jackson's net worth at the time of his death is estimated at $4 million.

Take that with a pretty hefty grain of salt, however, for several reasons: One, because most of Rev. Jackson's salary figures and financial records from the last two decades available publicly, and two, he had a large family (six kids!), and those get expensive!

Here are the figures we do have:

From January 1986 to October 1987, Jackson made a total of $210,840, according to the Chicago Tribune. That was broken down between $192,090 from his Personalities International family company work and an additional $18,750 for his service in his Rainbow Coalition. He also made $5,000 each for public relations work for Aretha Franklin and Bill Cosby, as well as consulting and speaking fees for various engagements.

During that period, he and wife Jacqueline also had more than $250,000 in stock in Inter City Broadcast Corporation, a Black-owned media company that operated radio stations in several major markets. The family also owned assets reportedly worth between $397,000 and $600,000.

A lot has changed since then in terms of inflation, cost of living and Jackson's own health, which began deteriorating in 2015.

Chick-fil-A Is Testing New Classic Comfort Sides Beyond Waffle Fries

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:25pm

Every fast-food chain has that one ride-or-die menu item—the thing you automatically order without even glancing at the rest of the board. For many fans of Chick-fil-A, that honor belongs to waffle fries. They're iconic. They're dependable. They're practically part of the brand's identity. But what if your next visit didn't automatically end with waffle-cut potatoes in the bag?

Chick-fil-A is testing a whole lineup of new classic comfort sides beyond its beloved waffle fries, and the internet definitely has opinions. Think warm, cozy, Southern-inspired comfort food energy with a few unexpected twists. This isn't just one new side. It's a full bench of contenders.

From Fried Okra to Sweet Potato Tots View this post on Instagram

Food blogger @snackwire shared that the test lineup includes Sweet Potato Waffle Fries, Classic French Fries, Fried Okra, Sweet Potato Soufflé, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potato Tots, Onion Rings and Cornbread. Yum.

Some of these lean distinctly Southern, such as Fried Okra, Sweet Potato Soufflé, and Cornbread. Others, like Sweet Potato Waffle Fries and Sweet Potato Tots, feel like playful spins on existing comfort-food favorites. Then there are Classic French Fries and Crispy Brussels Sprouts, which offer a more standard side-dish vibe but still fit comfortably alongside a chicken sandwich.

Related: This Hearty New Costco Grab-and-Go Meal Tastes Like It Simmered All Day

Right now, these items are only available at select test locations, including Chick-fil-A's Little Blue Kitchen in College Park, Md., and Truett's or Dwarf House locations across Georgia. The Little Blue Kitchen, often referred to as the brand's "beta kitchen," is where the chain experiments with bold new ideas before considering a broader rollout. Not every location offers every side, so availability may vary.

Fans in the comments are already rallying behind their favorites. Fried okra is getting a lot of love, with many calling it a long-overdue addition. Sweet potato fries and cornbread are also drawing strong support. But honestly, excitement seems high across the board. Some people are thrilled about the idea of onion rings with their nuggets. Others are ready to swap waffle fries for sweet potato tots without hesitation.

The big question is whether this signals a permanent expansion or just a fun experiment. Testing new classic comfort sides gives Chick-fil-A room to gauge demand and see what resonates most. And if fan enthusiasm is any indicator, there's definitely interest.

For now, most customers will still be reaching for waffle fries. But if you happen to live near one of the test locations, this might be your chance to weigh in on what could become the chain's next permanent side. Just don't be surprised if fried okra starts stealing the spotlight.

According to Raye, whose real name is Rachel Agatha Keen, 65 ticket holders planning to attend her show on Sunday, Feb. 15 were denied entry at the Accor Arena in Paris. Writing in her statement on Tuesday that she is "completely devastated" for the affected fans, Raye called the situation "completely unacceptable and wrong," while insisting that the ticket mishap "was outside of anything I could control."

"I feel saddened and let down," she wrote in the post, confirming that the denied ticket holders were already refunded and given a voucher from Ticketmaster—but Raye wanted to take it a step further.

"I'd like to offer all of these 65 people who didn't get in to the show complimentary tickets to any Raye future show of their choice," the "By Your Side" songstress announced, adding that she would also be giving affected fans a "signed vinyl."

"You will be contacted shortly about this," she wrote. "I know this doesn't even remotely make up for this mess, but it's all I can think of in this moment to soften the blow."

"My deepest apologies to those of you affected," she concluded the message, which was signed, "Love Raye."

Many fans online praised the singer for taking the situation into her own hands and doing her best to make it right for her fans.

"THAT'S the way it should be done," one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in praise of Raye, while another user echoed, "This is someone who cares about her fans and is now rectifying an issue that wasn’t her fault. Raye we appreciate you and thank you."

"now THIS is a reaction. we love you raye," another fan applauded.

If Someone Often Uses These 7 Phrases, They May Be Avoiding Vulnerability

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:10pm

We all have varying levels of vulnerability and "letting people in." While some people take to social media to spill their guts and let it all out, some are more tight-lipped and prefer to keep things to themselves. But what is vulnerability, exactly? And is it good to be vulnerable?

“Vulnerability is opening up about your true thoughts and emotions, and letting your guard down,” says Dr. Vanessa Kennedy, Ph.D., the Director of Psychology at Driftwood Recovery. “When we are vulnerable in relationships, we tend to share our personal emotions, fears, questions and thoughts that we may not share routinely in more formal settings.”

She adds that this transparency takes courage, as it involves risk when we share the raw, inner workings of our minds that we usually protect or keep to ourselves. It can help to deepen relationships and build trust.

Dr. Kennedy says that people remain guarded for a variety of reasons.

“They might simply be socially anxious, risk-averse or unsure about how to open up about their feelings, lacking the insight or language to identify and name their emotions,” she observes. “They may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable, or they might view vulnerability as weakness, as can often be the case when it comes to society’s depictions of toughness.”

Whether it’s a partner, family member or even yourself, this impulse is nothing to be ashamed of, per se—but it is a muscle that can be strengthened. Ahead, learn seven phrases that imply someone's avoiding vulnerability and, if you relate, discover how to open up a little bit more.

The Outcomes of Vulnerability—the Good and the Risky

Vulnerability is generally a positive thing.

“Exposing our fears, sensitivities, creativity, sense of humor or defenses tends to give other people the code to our psyche, which can be a beautiful gift in a trusting relationship,” Dr. Kennedy says.

Additionally, she shares that opening ourselves up to someone we trust can reduce feelings of fear or shame associated with feeling isolated. We might be embarrassed that we're experiencing certain emotions all alone, but being vulnerable can lead others to share similar sentiments that help us feel supported.

Even though it’s typically beneficial, she explains that opening up to others does have its risks.

“It can be exploited,” she states. “Sensitive information can be used against you, or used to embarrass you. Others may not understand or relate to something you share. You can feel awkward, uncomfortable, judged or rejected.”

Even though there are gambles involved, she emphasizes that the price of not practicing vulnerability and authenticity is greater than the temporary discomfort.

7 Phrases People Use To Avoid Being Vulnerable, According to a Psychologist1. “I wouldn’t be in this mess if it wasn’t for…”

“This phrase typically involves a version of ‘externalizing’ blame, that is, pinning the responsibility on someone else instead of looking at our part,” Dr. Kennedy tells Parade. “This is a version of avoiding vulnerability. It is much more comfortable to point at something external than to look at our own choices or mistakes.”

2. “You know?”

This common phrase, which many of us add at the ends of sentences, actually can point to a lack of vulnerability.

“Usually when someone does not describe their own thoughts and feelings, frequently saying, ‘Well, you know what it’s like,’ they are putting the job on you to fill in the blank as opposed to vulnerably expressing their true feelings,” Dr. Kennedy explains. “They may be struggling to find the right words or anxious about sharing their experience.”

3. “It’s fine.”

Calling this a “classic avoidant phrase,” Dr. Kennedy says that these words “dismiss one’s own feelings and avoid bringing up something annoying, frustrating or painful.”

“The person may want to avoid a familiar argument, but saying, ‘It’s fine,’ does not reflect how they truly feel,” she adds.

4. “We all have things.”

With an alternate phrasing of “I’m sure like most people…,” Dr. Kennedy says that generalizing one’s personal experience to capture the rest of humanity diffuses the person’s own unique emotions and thoughts and justifies their behavior.

“While there certainly are common elements to our collective human experience, you might notice a pattern of normalizing or qualifying when the person does not want to get vulnerable or fully own their behavior,” she shares.

5. “I guess I’ll never be good enough for you.”

“At times, expressing self-loathing or self-pity can be a tactic to avoid vulnerability,” Dr. Kennedy says. “If you make a mistake, you might feel overwhelmed by doing the work to change the behavior, unsure where to start or uncertain whether you can muster the courage. You might express that you will never be good enough to meet someone else’s expectations, which suggests that you are not willing to try.”

6. “I’m over it.”

This phrase points to something that Dr. Kennedy calls “intellectualizing without emotion.”

“Some individuals explain themselves through logic, pragmatically identifying the salient points of a story without revealing their personal emotions,” she says. “Sometimes they reason that they are ‘over it,’ [they] ‘don’t care’ or 'it’s whatever.’ Sometimes people have opened up about a difficult experience so many times that they become numb to their feelings or learn to compartmentalize them.”

7. Humorous phrases

If you or a loved one uses humor to deflect or change the subject, it could signal some emotional guardedness.

“Humor can be very adaptive for dealing with painful emotions,” Dr. Kennedy says. “However, a frequent pattern of joking in uncomfortable situations or to deal with pain can lead to more severe avoidance of conflict.”

First of all, Dr. Kennedy says that it’s imperative to start trying to share more of yourself, which can include your inner thoughts, opinions and emotions.

“You might start small by telling someone you appreciate something they did, sharing an opinion that might spark discussion or telling a lighthearted joke,” she advises. “These are all forms of vulnerability that allow you to open up more to others.”

You can also practice self-compassion as you learn to open up. Dr. Kennedy says that this might not come naturally, and you may need some additional support.

She also recommends exploring the value of vulnerability.

“Discussing your beliefs about vulnerability with a therapist or trusted friend can be illuminating,” she says. “Are there reasons you might avoid being vulnerable? How could being more vulnerable help you in relationships?”

1972 Hit Ranked Best ‘Classic Rock Album’ of All Time

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 5:00pm

Even though David Bowie passed away a decade ago, his legacy still lives on.

In an article posted by Collider this past December, the publication wrote a listicle right before Christmas about what they think the Top 25 "greatest classic rock albums of all time" are. Among the list included the masterpieces such as Abbey Road by The Beatles, Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde, The Velvet Underground & Nico's 1967 self-titled album and 21 more iconic records, but Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars was crowned the No. 1 spot.

Released on June 16, 1972, in the United Kingdom via RCA Records, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (often shortened to Ziggy Stardust) is the late singer's fifth studio album. Recorded from November 1971 to February 1972 at Trident Studios in London, the LP was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott, and featured his backing band The Spiders from Mars.

Inspired by the sounds and musical styles of Iggy Pop, Velvet Underground and Marc Bolan, the album tells the story of Bowie's alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, who is a fictional, androgynous, sex-obsessed and bisexual alien rockstar who is sent to Earth. The album consists of 11 songs, including a cover of Ron Davies' "It Ain't Easy," which was the first song to be recorded.

The plot of the concept album starts with "Five Years," where he sings about a news broadcast story that revealed that Earth only had five years left before it was destroyed by an apocalyptic disaster. The third song, "Moonage Daydream," introduced the character of Ziggy, while "Starman" is the point of view of one of the children who hears Ziggy's message of hope.

In "Star," Ziggy is wondering if he could make it as a rock star and if it would be worth it, and in the next track, "Hang On to Yourself," he is put in front of a crowd to perform. As fame and stardom get to Ziggy, it eventually leads to his downfall, which is sung about in "Ziggy Stardust." The final track, "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide," is the alien's cry for help, before he dies on stage.

In a 2002 interview with NPR that was re-published in 2016 after his death, Bowie revealed that he created the character with his friends, who were beginning to be fed up with hippie culture that was taking over London in the early 1970s.

"[We] read too much George Steiner and kind of got the idea that we were entering to this kind of post-culture age and that we'd better do something postmodernist quickly, before somebody else did," Bowie said. "It was a pudding of new ideas. And we were terribly excited, and I think we took it on our shoulders that we were creating the 21st century in 1971. That was the idea."

Decades later, Ziggy Stardust has become regarded as Bowie's masterpiece and listed in various lists as "one of the greatest albums of all time." The late musician and actor has been regarded as one of the most influential entertainers of the 20th century. Throughout his 54-year career, the "Heroes" singer released 26 studio albums, ending with Blackstar in 2016, two days before his death.

The 2012 remastered version of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Bowie's entire discography are available to stream on all platforms.
