A Sweet New Bakery Find at Costco Is Already Turning Heads

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 6:17am

If you're a fan of strawberries, Costco's bakery has already delivered some mouthwatering desserts this year. And its latest sweet treat might just take the cake, literally.

The warehouse is known for its creamy, oversized cheesecakes, and the new Strawberry Streusel Cheesecake looks hard to pass up. It features a sweet graham crust, a rich cheesecake filling, strawberry topping, and a buttery streusel crumble. The 4.5-pound dessert costs $22.99, and it's a showstopper for any summer gathering.

You can see the latest bakery find in a June 23 Instagram post from Laura Jayne Lamb, @costcohotfinds.

This one feels just right for summer. As Laura notes, the cheesecake easily serves 12 to 14 people, making it perfect for summer barbecues, birthdays, and family events. And if you're wondering whether that crumb topping tastes as good as it looks, she says, "The streusel crumble is so good."

At $22.99, the dessert works out to less than $2 a slice. Considering the cost of cream cheese, butter, fresh strawberries, and the time it takes to bake and chill a homemade cheesecake, it's hard to beat the value. For anyone entertaining this summer, it's an easy grab-and-go dessert that delivers bakery quality without spending hours in the kitchen.

Costco fans had plenty to say about the new dessert.

@tacoma_mark joked, "But Costco… What about my summer bod?!"

And @lexi.barbieri added, "Loving all the strawberry treats at Costco lately."

Another shopper simply wrote, "MUST TRY!" which is what many of us are thinking after seeing this one.

As with most Costco bakery items, selection can vary by warehouse, so if you don't spot it on your visit, it may still be on its way to a location near you.

With strawberry season in full swing and summer plans filling up calendars, Costco's latest bakery creation looks like another crowd-pleaser. Between the dreamy cheesecake, sweet strawberry topping, and golden streusel finish, it's a dessert that's likely to disappear long before the party ends.

So much more than just a cute vase, this is basically a literary work of art. The deep forest green hue is enhanced with rich gold botanical detailing that lends the piece an ornate vibe. A reviewer described the effect as "rich" and "lovely." With distinctive floral and feather motifs bringing a bit of Regency influence to the mix without being too literal, the effect is just right for honoring the classic story while enhancing your space.

The script typography adds to its charm. It has the feel of an authentic heirloom edition of the novel, making it a particularly special gift idea for your favorite Austen enthusiast or anyone who appreciates the classics. With ribbed ceramic "pages" adding to its appeal, the effect is exactly like a real book you might find tucked away in some far-flung bookshop in England.

Turn it over to reveal a fun surprise: "I was in the middle before I knew I had begun," the famous line uttered by protagonist Mr. Darcy to heroine Elizabeth Bennett as he realizes the depth of his love for her. It's a little bit of a swoon moment for anyone who loves Pride and Prejudice, but even as a standalone quote it can be so meaningful and poignant.

Coming in at 5.31 inches wide by 7.75 inches tall, this vase also feels pleasantly substantial at about 2 pounds. One person noted its "excellent quality" and "elegant" design. It's a visible standout, about the size of a standard hardcover novel. It’s perfect for setting on a bookshelf as a piece of decor or using as a focal point to hold a beautiful floral arrangement.

The Handbag That Can Make or Break Your Cruise (And It's Under $20 on Amazon)

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 6:10am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

I Am a Handbag Person

I am not that person with a landyard around her neck and just a seapass card. For some unknown reason, I feel that I need to carry everything with me all of the time. My sunglasses, my phone, my lip gloss, my sunblock, my earbuds, my concealer (because I was up too late the night before), and yes, my sea-pass card and passport are in there as well.

So, whether I'm at sea, lounging on the deck, at the buffet, or at the theater, my bag is with me. If I'm ashore, it's the same, only it's stuffed to maximum capacity...just in case I need one of the above-mentioned items that I've stuffed into my bag.

Confession: I have too many bags; one look at the dozens hanging in my closet will support that. The problem was that I never had the "right" one that I could take from day to night and go just about everywhere with.

I'll be honest, I've spent years in the "right bag, wrong price" cycle. I've hauled designer crossbodies through Caribbean ports, babied leather bags around cobblestone streets, and watched Instagram tutorials about which luxury brands hold their value.

So when I stumbled across a nylon crossbody on Amazon that looked suspiciously familiar (like the one from a fitness brand that I'd been eyeing) and was priced at what I'd normally pay for less than lunch in port, I almost kept scrolling.

The Bag Problem Nobody Talks About

Here's what every experienced cruiser knows but rarely admits out loud: the wrong bag will ruin your shore day faster than a new pair of shoes you haven't broken in yet.

You think you've planned the perfect port excursion, you've got your sunscreen, your phone, your passport card, your cash, your lip gloss, and some snacks because you've learned that lesson the hard way, and then you're lugging a tote bag the approximate size and weight of a small carry-on through cobblestone streets in 90-degree heat. By the time you're done, you've sweated through your cover-up, and you're too exhausted to enjoy anything.

The cruise bag sweet spot is deceptively hard to find. It has to be small enough that it doesn't feel like you're hauling luggage, but actually holds your essentials. It should work at a nice restaurant for lunch, walking around the town, a catamaran ride, a stroll on the Lido deck, or a night in the theater. And frankly, it should be able to survive a water taxi splash, and the general chaos of re-boarding a ship, all without screaming "I'm a tourist."

Pander Crossbody Sling Bag – Everyday Purse with Adjustable Strap, Perfect for Travel, Errands, and Daily Use, Black Onyx Check Price Enter: A Brand I'd Never Heard Of

While falling down an Amazon search rabbit hole, yes, it was close to midnight, and a few days before a cruise, I came across a crossbody bag that caught my eye. The photos looked almost identical to a certain wildly popular bag from a certain famous fitness brand. Sleek, structured nylon and comes in a variety of color combinations. The difference? This one costs a fraction of the price.

It's compact and sits flat against your body, which means you're not doing the awkward shoulder shimmy every time you walk through a crowd or squeeze onto a water taxi. And yet it holds everything: phone, wallet, passport, keys, earbuds, cash, cards, lip gloss, mini sunscreen, and still has room for a few more little things to tuck in there.

The organization is where it really earns its keep for cruise life. I keep my phone in the front pocket for easy access. The main compartment includes an interior slip pocket, so your small items aren't just rattling around in the dark together. But the real upgrade is the back pocket. That's where I stash my room card, my cash for tips, and my ID, so I'm not digging around at the gangway while a line of people waits behind me giving me "the look".

The strap is adjustable, which means it works crossbody for port days when you want your hands completely free, or shortened for a cleaner look when you're heading to dinner after re-boarding.

Oh, and it's water-resistant nylon, which is one of the most important parts when you're surrounded by water on the ship and off.

A Few Things Worth Noting

It comes in multiple colors, which is both a blessing and a curse, because you will want more than one, and you will justify this to yourself immediately. The style is clean and minimal enough to work with almost any cruise outfit, from beach cover-up, sundress, or even a dressier evening look if you're not going full formal.

For those of you who've been eyeing the overpriced version and couldn't quite stomach the price tag: this is your sign to stop waiting.

The Part Where I Admit I Was Wrong

I did not see this coming. But here's the thing about cruising: You learn to be ruthlessly practical about what you bring and what you wear, and when something works, it works.

This bag has been on beaches in Aruba, on the water taxi to Atlantis on Paradise Island, and through more gangway security lines than I can count. It has never let me down. It looks put-together. It holds everything I need. And if I lose it overboard, which has not happened but is theoretically possible when you're leaning over a railing trying to photograph a dolphin. I will simply order another one before I even get home.

Happy Cruising!

1979 Post-Punk Classic, Recorded Weeks Before Their Singer Died, Is Finally Getting a Release

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 6:07am

Four years as a band. Two studio albums. And, one final show on May 2, 1980.

Sixteen days later, their singer was gone and Joy Division ceased to exist.

The surviving members went on to form the band New Order, one of the most influential bands of the decade that followed. But Joy Division, the original band that started it all, was completely over. Now, 46 years later, the recordings from those final months are being officially released for the first time. And before the year’s out, the band that lasted only four years will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

@ministryofcults

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (1980) (4K60fps) PPTv #JoyDivision #4K #70s #80s #LoveWillTearUsApart #PostPunk #iancurtis #punk #love #goth

♬ Post Punk TV - Ministry of Cults

Joy Division came together in Manchester in 1976 and left behind one of the most intense and short-lived careers in rock history. They put out two studio albums, Unknown Pleasures in 1979 and Closerin 1980, and built a sound so influential that its echoes are still everywhere in music today. Post-punk, gothic rock, new wave, electronic music, all of it runs through what Joy Division made in those four years. They never got the chance to find out how far they could go.

The Eternal (Live) box set arrives September 25, 2026, through Warner Music. The title feels like the perfect word for it. It's the first official collection of live recordings the band has ever put out, spanning 14 CDs, 16 live performances and two and a half hours of footage drawn from audience cassettes, soundboard tapes and broadcast recordings, all mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The package also includes photography by Anton Corbijn and Kevin Cummins and personal notes by the poet Simon Armitage.

Photo by Chris Mills on Getty Images

The shows documented cover the full run of the band's final active years, from early dates in London, Altrincham, Manchester and Leeds to their European shows, including their well-known concert at the Paradiso in Amsterdam and stops in Eindhoven and Paris.

Then there are the later recordings.

Shows from the final months of Ian Curtis's life are here too, including one at the Winter Gardens in Malvern. And the box set ends with Joy Division's last-ever show, Birmingham, May 2, 1980. Curtis died sixteen days later, on May 18. He was only 23 years old.

Related: 1983 Pop Classic, Almost Thrown in the Trash, Now at the Center of a $2 Million Lawsuit

Nobody in those recordings knew what was coming. The audience had no idea. The band didn't know.

Also in the box set is previously unseen footage of a Brussels concert. The Brussels footage has been something fans have wanted access to for decades. There are also two performances and a soundcheck from the Apollo Theatre in Manchester that were partly put out on VHS in 1982, and a brand new edit of Joy Division: A Malcolm Whitehead Film.

These recordings don't just show what Joy Division sounded like live. They show what the end of something extraordinary looked like before anyone knew it was ending.

46 Years Later, the Rock Hall Finally Calls

The box set lands just weeks before Joy Division/New Order get one of music's highest possible honors.

Joy Division/New Order will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on November 14, 2026. It's their third nomination and will be their first induction. The 2026 class also includes Oasis, Iron Maiden, Sade, Phil Collins, Wu-Tang Clan, Billy Idol and Luther Vandross.

Peter Hook, Joy Division's bassist, confirmed that he'll be there. "Wild horses wouldn't keep me away," he said. But he's also said he won't share the stage with his former bandmates to accept the award. Hook and the remaining members of New Order, led by Bernard Sumner, haven't performed together since 2007. Forty-six years after Joy Division ended, even the celebration of what they built comes with complications. Tragically, Ian Curtis isn’t alive to receive this well-deserved honor.

It's hard to believe it’s taken this long. Joy Division only existed for four years. They put out two studio albums. They played their last show on May 2, 1980, and were gone just sixteen days later. The music they made in that time has shaped decades of artists across genres that didn't even exist when the band was active.

Some things take time to be recognized for what they are.

The recordings on Eternal (Live) were captured between March 1979 and May 1980. They sounded like a band playing with everything ahead of them, on stages all across the UK and Europe, in front of crowds who had no idea they were watching something that would still be talked about half a century later.

The last recording on the box set was made sixteen days before it all ended.

Country Star Releases New Album for the First Time in Nearly Three Years

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 6:07am

Country music star Cody Johnson has released Banks of the Trinity, his 10th studio album and his first full-length record in nearly three years.

The 16-track project arrived on Friday, following the success of his 2023 album Leather, which earned the CMA Album of the Year award and helped cement his place among country music’s biggest names.

Johnson announced the album's release to fans on Instagram, sharing a personal message about what inspired the project.

"Banks Of The Trinity is built on the sounds and influences I’ve loved my whole life, but it’s also rooted in the things that matter most to me: faith, family, hard work, and staying true to who you are. I couldn’t be more proud of this album. Thank you for listening.”

Cody Johnson at The 61st Academy of Country Music Awards held at MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 17, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The release comes at a major point in Johnson's career. Earlier this year, he won Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, the organization's highest honor. He also recently celebrated his fifth career No. 1 country radio hit with "The Fall."

View this post on Instagram

Speaking to The Associated Press, Johnson said he still sees many first-time concertgoers at every show despite spending two decades in the music business.

"How many of you tonight are watching me and this band live for the very first time?"

He added that nearly 80% of audiences raise their hands, saying:

"And I'm thinking, you know, 20 years is a long time to work for something. But when you see that … What's the next 20 years look like?"

Johnson described the current stage of his career as the beginning of something new.

"I feel like I'm closing a book and I'm opening another one and it's all blank pages. Let's get to the next chapter."

Banks of the Trinity album reflects Cody Johnson's Texas roots and musical growth

The album's title track holds special meaning for Johnson, who grew up in Sebastopol, Texas, near the Trinity River.

The album includes collaborations with Luke Combs on "Shoot The Bull" and Brothers Osborne on "Fool Proof." Johnson also co-wrote two songs, "Time Bomb" and the closing track, "Yippy Ty Oh Hey Hey." Longtime collaborator Trent Willmon produced the project.

Before the album's release, Johnson gave fans a preview through Spotify's Day in the Life series, becoming the first country artist featured in the video series. During the episode, he introduced "Thank Somebody Country" and discussed how "Take Me Back (Leave Me There)" came together.

"'Take Me Back (Leave Me There)' was one of those songs where we made one pass with the band in the studio and I was like, 'this is cool, it's sexy, it's groovy, it's something you can still two-step to.'"

Cody Johnson says time away from touring helped shape the new country album

Johnson revealed that Banks of the Trinity almost looked very different.

Last year, he canceled several tour dates after upper respiratory and sinus infections caused a burst eardrum that required surgery. The unexpected break forced him away from the road for nearly three months.

Instead of slowing his career, Johnson said the recovery period changed the album for the better. During that time, he welcomed the birth of his son and returned to the studio with a fresh perspective.

He explained that songs including "Thank Somebody Country," "Take Me Back (Leave Me There)," "Cricket on a Hook," and "I Have" were added after the original version of the record had already been finished.

"What a blessing to have that kind of song fall in your lap when you're kind of up against the ropes. I mean, we thought we had the record done. It wasn't done."

Banks of the Trinity follows Johnson's steady rise from independent Texas artist to one of country music's most decorated performers. Since releasing Human: The Double Album in 2021, he has earned Grammy, CMA and ACM honors, while songs including "'Til You Can't," "The Painter," "Dirt Cheap" and "The Fall" have become major hits. His latest album continues that momentum while drawing from the values and experiences that have shaped his music throughout his career.

Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI Expert Says Note Sender May Hold Key Information (Exclusive)

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 6:07am

Nearly a dozen emails have been sent to TMZ from someone claiming to have information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. But according to retired FBI special agent Jason Pack, the biggest question isn’t necessarily who the sender claims to be—it’s whether that person knows something investigators need.

In an exclusive interview with Parade, Pack shared some insight into the messages and what they could mean for the case.

"What matters more is that whoever sent those emails knows something," Pack says. "TMZ was hopefully encouraging them to contact the FBI or Pima County directly. Tips can be left anonymously. The reward is real. Whatever fear is keeping that person quiet isn’t worth it. Not with a family still waiting for answers."

Pack also praised Nancy's youngest daughter, Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, for the way she has continued to handle the situation publicly.

"Savannah has handled an unimaginable situation with grace and professionalism that most people couldn’t manage on their best day," Pack continues, adding, "she has shown up for work, kept her mother’s name in the public conversation, and never stopped asking for help. That family deserves answers and they deserve peace."

Investigators believe that Nancy, 84, was abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night on Feb. 1. On Friday, June 26, TMZ reported that it had received a new email in which the sender claimed to have video of the person who took Nancy—and footage of Nancy the day that she allegedly died. TMZ says it forwarded the email to the FBI, but so far, there have been no public updates.

Anyone with information about Nancy is asked to call Tucson’s 88-Crime hotline at 1-520-882-7463 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

1978 Soft Rock Hit Was Singer’s Top-Charting Song—But He Thought It Was ‘Horrible’

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 5:44am

In 1978, Al Stewart released what would become the highest-charting hit song of his career, “Time Passages.”

Written by Stewart and Peter White for the album of the same name, the song featured an electric keyboard hook, an acoustic guitar riff, and a soaring saxophone solo by Phil Kenzie, accompanied by nostalgic lyrics about the fast passage of time.

In an interview posted by HuffPost, White recalled the songwriting and recording sessions with Stewart. “That was actually one of the first songs that I wrote with Al,” he shared. “I played pretty much all of the keyboard and guitar on that song. They brought in a saxophone player, Phil Kenzie, because they wanted the same sound that he'd done with us before. That was another great moment for me because it was my first and only Top 10 hit.”

Indeed, “Time Passages” became a massive radio hit as 1978 came to a close. The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot  100 on December 9, 1978, amid an 18-week chart run—which was even higher than Stewart’s signature hit, “Year of the Cat,” which only made it to No. 8 in 1977.

In 1979, Billboard named “Time Passages” the No. 1 Adult Contemporary Single of the year.

There was just one problem with “Time Passages": Stewart wasn’t a fan of the song.

In an interview with acousticstorm.com, the Scottish singer-songwriter once admitted, “I have never really cared for that song., I know it was a big hit and all that. It was just one of those things where the record company asked me to write something that sounded like ‘Year Of The Cat’ and we ended up doing that.”

“I didn't realize truly how bad a song it was until one day I was in an elevator and I was listening to what I thought was Muzak,” Stewart continued, per Songfacts. “About 30 seconds went by, and I finally began to recognize it and said to myself, 'This sounds pretty horrible.' Then, horror of horrors, I heard my voice come on, it actually was the record. So I'm thinking, 'Oh my God what have I done, this is terrible!' Hopefully, in the last 25 years I've redeemed myself with other things, but ‘Time Passages’ has just never thrilled me."

In an interview with Songwriter Universe, Stewart recalled Arista Records CEO Clive Davis ordering him to write “some midtempo ballads—120 beats per minute with a saxophone on it” for his follow-up to the highly successful Year of the Cat album.

“So basically with ‘Time Passages,’ I just cloned ‘Year of the Cat,’” Stewart admitted. “I gave him a couple midtempo ballads with sax, and then the rest of the album I wrote basically for me. There’s a song called ‘Life in Dark Water’ that’s about being trapped in a submarine on the bottom of the ocean for 50 years. That’s more up my street than ‘Time Passages.’”

“A lot of people did like ‘Time Passages,’” Stewart added. “If someone likes anything that I’ve done for any reason, then I’m extremely grateful for it. And of course, it sold lots of copies, and you can’t knock it. But if you asked me if the song stands up as well as [my 1974 song] ‘Roads To Moscow,’ I’d say not.”

The 1979 Jazzy Smash That Made an Unknown 24-Year-Old Woman a Overnight Icon 47 Years Ago

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 5:41am

The 1979 release of a bluesy folk-rock track about love and fresh starts would prove to be a singer’s final major moment on the charts.

Rickie Lee Jones rose to music prominence in the late 1970s as a singer-songwriter known for her jazz-influenced folk-rock sound and vivid storytelling. Her early work quickly set her apart as one of the most distinctive voices of the era, blending poetic lyrics with a laid-back, smoky vocal style.

She reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the storytelling song "Chuck E's In Love" in 1979. The song became her breakout hit, introducing her unique blend of folk, pop, and jazz to a wide mainstream audience.

The Independent reported that Jones was singing at the West Hollywood club, The Troubadour, where the song's main character, Chuck E. Weiss, worked.  "A little later on, Tom [Waits, Jones' then-boyfriend] saw me there, and he and Chuck E. and I started hanging out together."

Weiss later left Los Angeles behind for love. He moved to Denver, and that was where Waits found him.

After a phone call with his friend, Waits reportedly looked at Jones and exclaimed, “Chuck E’s in love!” At the time, the phrase didn’t mean much to her, but it later resurfaced while she was recording her self-titled debut album.

Jones told The Independent she believed she knew the identity of the mysterious woman Chuck E. started over for. "His cousin," she said. "I mean, that's what I heard."

The song was a huge hit and led to Jones winning a Grammy Award in 1980 for Best New Artist. She told Billboard about the night she won her first industry accolade.

"I’d arrived late—well—I wasn’t going to go. Then I called my dear friend [Warner Bros. senior VP of artist relations and publicity] Bob Regehr, and he scrammed over and picked me up."

"We [arrived] just one or two ‘episodes’ before mine. In those days, I didn’t care about awards. I scorned them, and I do not regret that. Then again, if I look at it from today—and I’d not won—I think my career would be harder. There is a gentle acknowledgement that helps when times get hard, I think.”

Jones brought home a second golden gramophone a decade later, for a collaboration with Dr. John. She won in 1990 in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Duo or Group, for the song "Makin' Whoopee." The song was featured on the 1989 hit movie soundtrack for The Fabulous Baker Boys.

"Chuck E's In Love" would be the last huge hit of Rickie Lee Jones' career. However, she remained a respected singer-songwriter who continued to record, tour, and build a devoted following over the decades that followed.

According to her official website, Jones has tour dates scheduled for October 2026.

Costco’s Bibigo Beef Bulgogi Mandu is an easy choice for those looking for quick meals that still feel restaurant-prepared. These extra-large, fully cooked Korean-style dumplings feature an ultra-thin wrapper and are packed with savory bulgogi beef and an assortment of vegetables, including cabbage, green onions and carrots. Nathan Hutsenpiller

Another popular pick that feels like it was pulled from a local seafood restaurant, Kirkland Signature Panko Shrimp is an easy option for quick dinners and party-style snacking alike. Sold in a 2.5-pound box, these tasty jumbo butterfly shrimp are coated in a panko breading and cook up in a matter of minutes. Enjoyable on their own with a side of dipping sauce, you can also elevate the meal with a squeeze of lemon, a simple side salad or a batch of fries for a more complete meal.

10. Kokoro Classic Egg Grilled Musubi

Nathan Hutsenpiller

Taking us back to Hawaii with a classic mealtime staple, Spam musubi is the perfect example of a snack that has full meal potential. Costco’s Kokoro Classic Egg Grilled Musubi elevates the experience with fluffy egg, rice and a meatless patty topped with a sweet and savory glaze. Designed as a lighter alternative to traditional Spam musubi, this snack heats up in the microwave in just 1 minute and 15 seconds, yet it still somehow produces results that look like they came straight from a local Hawaiian restaurant. Eat two in one sitting, and you’ll be full in no time.

Tips to Make Frozen Dishes Better

ZikG / Shutterstock.com

One of the easiest ways to upgrade frozen food is by avoiding the microwave whenever possible. While the appeal of many freezer finds is that they can be heated in minutes, taking a little extra time to use the oven, air fryer or stovetop often results in better texture, more even cooking and a finished product that feels much closer to a freshly prepared meal.

Another quick upgrade that makes a world of difference is incorporating a fresh ingredient or two before serving. While some frozen meals come complete with an entrée and sides, others can benefit from a simple finishing touch like freshly grated Parmesan cheese, sliced green onions, parsley or a squeeze of lemon over chicken or salmon. And for dishes that need a little extra help, an easy side like fried rice or a fresh salad can help better round out your meal.

As with any meal, a little preparation can go a long way. And while Costco’s frozen dishes are more than capable of standing on their own, they can also serve as a reliable foundation for something even better. With a little creativity, it's easy to elevate an already satisfying meal into something that feels restaurant-worthy, but if convenience is the priority, these picks are still more than capable of delivering a delicious meal with minimal effort.

How I Pack for a 7-Day Trip With a Single Shoulder Bag

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 5:10am

I like to pride myself on being an exceptional packer.

From my experience traveling the world on a Broadway tour with just one suitcase to living in small cruise ship cabins, I know how to make any situation work.

These days, I often travel around with just a carry-on, as long as the trip is under two weeks. Recently, however, I was presented with a new challenge: I was visiting a friend who worked as a performer on a cruise ship, and I would be staying in his extremely small crew cabin. He let me know that there is barely room to move around in the cabin, so he suggested that I pack as light as possible. I decided to pack with just a personal item that fits under the seat in front of me on the plane—and I'm happy to say that it was extremely successful.

Now, I know not many of you will be staying with cruise ship crew members as often as I do, but there are many other situations where packing with just a tote bag for a week-long trip could come in handy.

If you're traveling with an airline that charges extra for a carry-on, and you don't want to pay the extra fee, this could be your option. Hopping from hostel to hostel, and want to be able to keep your belongings with you at your bed? Pack with just your personal item. No matter your journey, I'm positive that just about anyone can make this packing challenge doable.

For the purpose of this article, let's pretend we're going on a weeklong trip to a warm city. We'll need cool and comfortable clothing, shoes to walk in, and accessories that'll make us look great in pictures. Let's get packing!

View this post on Instagram The Core Clothing Items

Melissa Cabey

When packing clothing in a small space, you want to choose the lightest and thinnest clothing options as possible. I packed two t-shirts and a tank top that fold up incredibly small. My bulkiest item was a short-sleeve button-up, which can be worn by itself or over the top of one of the other shirts. This took up a little bit more room than the thin tops, but it was still quite small. For the bottoms, I packed two pairs of shorts. Both were thin and easy to fold, one being a black linen pair and the other a short white khaki pair.

Now, the outfit that I chose to travel in also gets factored into my clothing for the trip. I decided on a pair of comfortable jeans, another thin tank top, and a sweatshirt. With the jeans and shirt included, I will have 15 total outfit combinations from the tops and bottoms that I brought. Plus, the sweatshirt can be thrown on top of any of the looks for added warmth or comfort.

Three Dresses

Melissa Cabey

Sundresses are always a must for me when packing. Most of the time, they are made of a linen blend or cotton, making them easy to fold and pack into a small space. Plus, sundresses are the perfect option for both daytime and nighttime. They can be worn while exploring a new city, visiting museums, or going out to lunch. Equally, they look great for a nice dinner out or an evening seeing live entertainment. By adding these three dresses to the mix, I now have 18 outfit options for my week-long trip.

Two Pairs Of Shoes

Keeping it realistic with shoes can be the hardest part of this packing challenge. As always, you need to wear your bulkiest pair of shoes as you travel to your destination. Usually, I wear a pair of white sneakers. However, in the interest of needing shoes that can cross off many different stylistic boxes, I decided to go with a comfortable pair of ballet flats instead. The flats that I chose are Vivaia, and they are very supportive and easy to walk around in. They can also look great in the evening with a dress or pair of jeans. Overall, they are a major win for both comfort and style.

Melissa Cabey

The second pair of shoes must be a pair that can easily fit into your shoulder bag. I chose a pair of thin flip flops. These are Crocs brand, and also feel very supportive and comfortable when walking long distances. They're also great for visits to the beach or pool, or even with an outfit in the evening.

Toiletries And Other Necessities

When it comes to toiletries, I keep it as simple as possible. I was able to fit a bottle of face and body wash, a razor, deodorant, sunscreen, toothpaste and face lotion. I opted out of packing shampoo and conditioner, because I know that the hotel I'll be staying at will have it. If that's not the case for you, it's still possible, but I'd recommend packing solid bars of the hair care products instead of liquid bottles.

Melissa Cabey

I've recently transitioned from using disposable toothbrushes to an electric one that is specifically great for travel. The brand is SuperMouth, and it comes with a special travel container that has a UV sanitizer, which helps to keep your teeth nice and healthy on your travels. The container is also small and compact, and fits into nearly any bag. The toothbrush itself lasts well over a month on a single charge, so you don't need to worry about packing any extra cables or chargers, either.

For my other necessities, I packed a small bag of makeup, a hair brush, a hair straightener, two silk scarves, and a baseball cap. In my small purse that I brought as well, I threw in my passport, wallet, phone charger, phone, and headphones. Finally, I topped the shoulder bag with a pair of pajamas and slid 8 pairs of underwear down into one of the side pockets. After all of that was packed, I still had a little bit of room on top—just in case I want to buy a souvenir.

Aldi's 2-Pack of Gorgeous Woven Baskets Corral Clutter In Such a Chic Way

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 5:05am

Unless you have achieved the ultimate level of minimalism, you need some kind of storage in your life. Whether that means decorative bins, lazy Susans or a full-on freestanding cabinet situation, if you want to achieve "a place for everything and everything in its place," it's going to involve an organization system of some kind.

Personally, I like storage that doubles as decor—the kind of thing that makes my clutter look both contained and cute. Because unless it's underbed storage or tucked away in a closet, storage is bound to be seen, so it may as well have some style.

The set comes with a larger basket and a smaller one, both with flat backs so they can hang flush against the wall. Attached woven loops make them easy to hang on hooks.

These hangable baskets can work just as well in an entryway as they can in a kitchen, hallway, bathroom, bedroom or home office. Fill them with things you need easy access to, whether that's mail, papers, accessories, tea towels or whatever else fits.

Of course, if you want to use these baskets for decorative purposes only, that's an option, too. Try hanging one with a trailing faux plant spilling over the edge, tuck in a bundle of dried lavender or eucalyptus, or use it to display seasonal greenery throughout the year.

You can also group a few baskets of different sizes to create eye-catching wall art that's a little more unexpected than framed prints. Sometimes it's the texture and cozy feel they bring to a room that's the real decoration.

As usual, the Aldi Finds aisle is packed to the gills with cute but functional stuff. If you love adding pops of color to your kitchen, there's a three-piece cookware set in the prettiest purple and a patchwork-print comfort mat that makes standing on your feet feel a little lighter. 'Property Brothers' Star Drew Scott Shares a Crucial Parenting Lesson After an Interaction With His Son

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 4:52am

Drew Scott is reflecting on a “heartbreaking” moment with his son.

The Property Brothers star took to Instagram to share what he learned from the experience as part of his “Blueprint for Life” series.

He opened the video by saying, “I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you run a mile a minute, which I tend to, I think you might relate to this story.”

Scott and his wife, LindaPhan, have two children together, their 2-year-old daughter Piper and 4-year-old son Parker

“I came home one day and I saw Parker, and I'm like, ‘Hey Parker, give me a hug.' And he sort of ran away,” Scott said. “And then he went and picked up one of his toys and held it to his ear. He actually started walking around and going, ‘I'm on a business call.'”

The 48-year-old TV personality was disappointed in the interaction.

“It was heartbreaking for me because he just saw me on calls all the time. So that was a wake-up for me to not be on my phone when I'm around the kids,” he explained. “To show them that I'm actually present, I'm listening to their questions, I'm answering, I'm playing with them.”

“It's a small thing but for me to be present there, I can see it in Piper's face, she gets excited. And for me, it's heartwarming and I love it," he said. "But if I was just to be in my busy, busy work pace, I would do calls over my lunch and I would skip that. Then all of a sudden I would look back years from now and think I missed these crucial points in my baby's life."

Scott shared that he is making an effort to have a better work-life balance.

“Establish what your priorities are,” he said. “Even if you don't have kids, maybe it's nice to spend a bit more time with your parents, maybe it's nice to spend some time with your siblings, or your best friends.”

Pop Superstar Makes Billboard History After Record-Breaking No. 1 Run

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 4:48am

Olivia Rodrigo has found herself in good company after achieving a rare Billboard chart record.

The pop superstar achieved the milestone after her latest album release, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

Boardroom reports that she "joins Beyoncé in one of Billboard’s most exclusive clubs."

The chart-topping stars are now the only two artists in history whose "first three solo studio albums all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with each album also producing at least one No. 1 hit on the Hot 100."

According to Billboard, Rodrigo has now achieved the feat across three eras: Sour in 2021, which topped the Billboard 200 alongside Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U”; Guts in 2023, paired with the chart-topping single “Vampire”; and most recently, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, alongside the No. 1 hit “Drop Dead.”

Beyoncé was previously the only artist to achieve the feat, first in 2003 with Dangerously in Love topping the Billboard 200 while “Crazy in Love” (feat. Jay-Z) and “Baby Boy” (feat. Sean Paul) ruled the Hot 100. She repeated the milestone with B’Day and “Irreplaceable” in 2006–2007, and again with I Am…Sasha Fierce and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008–2009.

'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love's' further success

While "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love's" charts the same course as its predecessors, Sour and Guts, both of which debuted at No. 1, NPR reports that the streaming numbers for the latest album are almost 60% higher than the first two albums in the first week on the charts.

All 13 of the tracks from the album have also landed in the top 30 of this week's Billboard Hot 100. "Stupid Song" debuted at No. 3, with "drop dead" and "the cure" finding their way into the top 10, at 4 and 6, respectively. "Honeybee" also makes an entry at No. 9.

Rodrigo is no stranger to breaking records, as Paradepreviously reported that her latest album was also recognized by Spotify, which announced it became the most-streamed album in 2026 in a single day so far by a female artist, in addition to it landing the musician as the youngest female artist ever to hit number one on the Spotify Top Artists Chart.

Festival sells out almost instantly

Rodrigo burst onto the scene in Jan. 2021 and hasn't been stopped since. She continues riding a career high, as just days after her Daisy Chain Fields festival was announced, it sold out in 30 minutes.

The all-female festival, founded by the 23-year-old pop sensation, boasts a lineup that bridges a generation gap and emphasizes girl power, with Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, The Breeders, Mitski, KATSEYE, Chappell Roan, Garbage, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and more, all set to perform.

All net profits from the Great Park in Irvine, Cali. show will benefit organizations supporting women and girls.

The Reason Disney Is Ending a Popular Holiday Tradition After 27 Years

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 4:10am

If your family has a long-standing winter tradition of hopping on the monorail to smell the warm, spiced air inside the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, you might want to brace yourself for a bittersweet change.

As part of a wave of holiday announcements, Disney officially confirmed a piece of news that has sent a jolt of nostalgia through the theme park community: the iconic, life-size Grand Floridiangingerbread house has been permanently retired and will not return for the upcoming season or any future years. For nearly three decades, the towering edible masterpiece—which historically required over 500 hours of baking and a literal half-ton of honey—served as the undisputed tentpole of Disney World’s resort-hotel Christmas displays.

While it's entirely natural to feel a little sad about the end of an era, it is important to look at this change through a practical lens. While Disney hasn't explicitly stated the reason for the retirement, park insiders at Disney Tourist Blog point to the resort's recent massive lobby refurbishments—including the addition of the new Perch Lobby Bar—which heavily restricted the physical space available for the massive structure

The reality of the old way of doing it was that the sheer, exploding popularity of the gingerbread house created an absolute logistical bottleneck. The main building was routinely transformed into a madhouse of shoulder-to-shoulder foot traffic during the holidays.

By combining a giant Christmas tree, the resort's new layout, and the immense crowds of non-hotel guests flooding the property just to glimpse the house, the lobby's infrastructure was simply pushed to its absolute limit, often overwhelming the experience for families actually staying on property.

To solve this crowding issue without losing that signature festive charm, Disney is pivoting to a smarter, more spread-out strategy. In place of the massive, single structure, the Grand Floridian’s incredibly talented culinary team will be creating an entirely new collection of detailed miniature holiday displays scattered throughout the resort.

BlogMickey.com reports that this specific adjustment is isolated entirely to the Grand Floridian, meaning you can still expect the traditional, classic gingerbread setups—like the magnificent working carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort or the Cinderella Castle display at the Contemporary—to return exactly as planned.

By transitioning to a decentralized model, the resort is ensuring that visitors can still get their annual dose of spectacular sugar artistry while finally giving the historic lobby the breathing room, comfort, and open space it needs to let families truly sit back and soak up the magic.

John Cena Says One Fear Shaped His Retirement Decision

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 3:30am

John Cena knew exactly how he wanted his WWE career to end. And it had nothing to do with championship belts.

Appearing on NPR's Wild Card with Rachel Martin, the 17-time world champion, 49, opened up about his decision to step away from in-ring competition, explaining that he never wanted fans' lasting memory of him to be a diminished version of the performer they had loved for decades.

"I started very early in my career, and I went on record to say, 'When I'm a step slower, I'm gonna step away,'" Cena said.

The longtime WWE superstar explained that watching other wrestlers stay in the ring too long shaped his own philosophy about retirement.

"I saw performers hit a certain age, and their performance just didn't match the rest of the show," he said. "And that's what people remember. They don't remember the moments you want them to. They'll remember you at the end when you were too slow for the show."

Rather than viewing retirement as a loss, Cena said he sees it as the natural conclusion to an extraordinary career.

"I knew getting into this it was gonna end," he said. "Instead of the void of 'it's not there anymore,' I look back on, like, 'I had 23 years of being a pro wrestler.' That's my vocation. I got to be a traveling carnival performer… and now I made that my career. How cool is that?"

Cena's perspective also extends to his acting career. Although he's become one of Hollywood's busiest action stars, he said he doesn't see acting as a replacement for wrestling. And he doesn't assume opportunities will always come.

"I'm just waiting for the phone to ring like everybody else," Cena said. "And one day it's not gonna ring, and I know that."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Cena reflected on a pivotal lesson he learned from former WWE chairman Vince McMahon. He recalled nearly damaging McMahon's, 80, trust after exploring a social media startup without first discussing it with WWE leadership.

Rather than reacting angrily, Cena said McMahon calmly walked him through the consequences of the decision.

"It took five minutes or less to realize, like, I'm such an idiot," Cena admitted. "I immediately called the company back and said, 'I'm out. This isn't for me.'"

Quote of the Day: Norman Vincent Peale on 'Empty Pockets,' 'Empty Heads,' and 'Empty Hearts'

Sat, 06/27/2026 - 2:43am

If you've ever heard someone touting the power of positive thinking, it's likely that they were a big fan of Norman Vincent Peale.

The American religious leader was a pioneer in the field of positive thinking, and he used his position in the church to spread his own gospel. Born May 31, 1898, in Ohio, Britannica says that Peale moved around the state a lot growing up, thanks to his father's job as a Methodist preacher. In 1920, Peale graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and became a journalist before entering the ministry.

While he was initially ordained in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Peale later switched denominations to the Reformed Church in America, serving as pastor of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City, where he famously served as a spiritual mentor to Donald Trump's family. He was credited with growing church membership from a few hundred to a few thousand thanks to his dynamic sermons.

Part of his success was due to his enlistment of a psychiatrist and his eventual establishment of a religio-psychiatric clinic. The clinic began as the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry, which later became the Blanton-Peale Institute and Counseling Center.

In 1935, he began a radio program called The Art of Living, which Britannica said eventually established a national audience. Then, in 1937, he wrote a spiritual leaflet called Guideposts. After that, he penned a book (which shared the name of his radio show). From there, he continued to publish books, including The Power of Positive Thinking.

Peale retired as a pastor in 1984, and he passed away on Dec. 24, 1993.

Quote of the Day by Norman Vincent Peale

"Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that."

Peale is credited with saying the quote, thanks to his popular philosophy that includes the power of positive thinking.

Deeper Meaning of Norman Vincent Peale’s Quote—' Empty Pockets,' 'Empty Heads,' and 'Empty Hearts'

The quote is meant to teach readers that having "empty pockets" (another way of saying you don't have much money or financial resources) isn't enough to hold you back in life. Instead, the true detriment is actually your own outlook on life (empty heads) and your emotional fortitude (empty hearts).

Peale was trying to explain to readers how switching their mindset, thinking positively, and believing that things will work out can actually help them to get ahead in life.
