Family Adopted an Adorable Newfoundland Mix Puppy, Then Watched Him Transform Completely

1 hour 21 min ago

Some puppies are so cute and fluffy that it’s hard to imagine what they’ll eventually grow into. At first, they have blue eyes, fur that seems glued down, and paws that seem far too big for whatever they will eventually grow into. But then they do grow into those features, and when you think back to their puppy days, the journey to adulthood and the changes the puppy went through make sense. But sometimes you come across a dog who absolutely surprises you with how different they are when they leave their puppy days behind.

That’s what we see in this video of a sweet Newfoundland mix who looked like the definition of a cuddly little teddy bear, with soft fur and oversized paws. But as time passed, his appearance changed in ways no one expected. It’s absolutely fascinating, take a look!

@aliltosty

I thought he’d be bigger than this 🤦🏼‍♀️ #newfoundlanddog #mixbreed #corgi #fyp

♬ original sound - Mr. Tim

TikTok user Lila (@aliltosty) shared a video of her beautiful dog, a very interesting and unusual mix of two very different breeds. It's hard to see at first what two breeds this adorable pup is a mix of when he's chewing on his toy while lying on the blanket. But the second the clip changes to a video of the same dog standing, and we can see his whole body, that's when the whole thing makes sense.

This dog is "built like a coffee table" because he's a mix of a giant Newfoundland, which we can see in his beautiful coat, and a Corgi. And there is no mistaking the Corgi genes in him when we get that whole-body look.

Related: Meet the Rare Dog Breed That’s Cute, Loyal, and Surprisingly Underrated

In the comments, people fell in love with this pup and his unique mix, with many saying that they can see both breeds in this one dog.

One person wrote, "That is a Newforgi. Very rare. Not… sure how it worked. Physically."

Another shared, "Anything mixed with a Corgi is just a Corgi wearing the other breed’s jacket."

Someone else added, "Corgi mixes always look like a short version of whatever else is in the mix; those short leg genetics are strong."

Other comments included, "Is he an Incorgnito?" "People keep saying Corgi… but that chest is all Basset Hound," "Congratulations on your Temu package," "There is nothing stronger than the genes of a Corgi," and "Why is he in lowercase?"

Newfoundland Dogs Are Known for Their Charming Personalities

There's no question this pup is an interesting breed mix we don't see very often. They look very different from each other, with one being far larger than the other. But Corgis and Newfoundland dogs have one thing in common: a charming personality.

According to the American Kennel Club, Corgis are known for being "loyal, affectionate, and smart," and the Newfoundland dog is described as "devoted, sweet, and patient." The two are very similar in their affection for family and their good nature with young kids, but they differ in their barking levels, with the Corgi being far chattier than the Newfoundland.

With this cute pup being a perfect mix of the two breeds, it's kind of a guessing game to see whether he will inherit the barking level traits of his Corgi half or his Newfoundland half.

Rescued Cockatoo Who Can't Fly Gets to Experience the Great Outdoors Thanks to Her Mom’s Sweet Idea

1 hour 51 min ago

Birds deserve just as much special attention as their more stereotypical pet counterparts.

Sweet Pea, a beloved Cockatoo, was adopted by Wendy Albright off of Craigslist in 2020. When Wendy brought Sweet Pea into her home, she had almost no feathers and copious amounts of plucking damage to her body. Because of the severity of the damage, specifically to her wing follicles, unfortunately Sweet Pea has permanently lost her ability to fly.

But her new mom has the perfect solution to make sure Sweet Pea still gets ample opportunity to stretch her wings. Literally.

@theparrotlady

Watching my cockatoo flap her wings outside in the sunshine is a sight I never tire of seeing. Sweet Pea can’t fly due to her past wing plucking but I still want to give her the experience she deserves ❤️ #cockatoo #parrot #outdoors #adventure

♬ A Simple Life - Morunas

As shared on TikTok, Wendy will take Sweet Pea out and about in a harness and leash, letting the Cockatoo walk alongside her and even mimic flying while on her arm. She even brings her other parrot, an African Grey named Brody, along with in a backpack so he gets some fresh air, too.

Over time and with care, most of Sweet Pea's feathers have regrown and her spirit has clearly returned. She visibly loves her walks outside and as Wendy said, "Watching her flourish and enjoy the outdoors makes me so happy."

Commenters on the video clearly agree saying:

"Awww she's thriving!"

"I wish all pet owners were like you!"

"She is such a treasure."

Sweet Pea Is an Internet Star

Sweet Pea is an utter internet sensation helping garner almost 50 million likes to Wendy's TikTok account alone. While Wendy does share her other pets, Sweet Pea in particular took off (no pun intended) when a video of her affection for dogs went mega-viral in 2021 and 2022. The latter has been viewed over 69 million times, making Sweet Pea a digital household name. Wendy features her prominently on TikTok, as well as on YouTube.

@theparrotlady

I’m thankful for the love all of you give us! We love you back! #parrot #puppy #iloveyou #cockatoo #lab #fyp #grateful

♬ original sound - Wendy Albright

Living very much up to her name, it's clear Sweet Pea is just the sweetest little soul. Her affectionate and happiness jumps out, even from behind a screen. With so many devoted fans online and a mother who will clearly do anything for her, hopefully the remainder of Sweet Pea's like is as sweet as she deserves.

Rescue Dog Turned Princess Pup Throws a Fit When Her Pillow Isn’t Fluffed Right

2 hours 16 min ago

When you rescue a dog, the main thing you want to do is make them feel like a "regular" dog. They may have had a really rough start in life, so it will be tough to get them to adapt to life in a forever home, but in time, they get there.

One rescued Pit Bull has definitely made herself comfortable in her forever home. Her mom lets her sleep in bed with her, which is wonderful, except that this princess has formed a lot of opinions about her pillow situation:

@jayceebrii

Every night. but “pit bulls are so scary” 😭 (She’s also scratching her eyes I make her stop dw) #dog #rescuedog #fosterdog #pitbull #staffy

♬ New Soul - Yael Naim

Jaycee Bri and her pup, whose name hasn't been shared on TikTok yet, are living their best lives together. Jaycee rescued the dog from a terrible situation, according to her; she says her previous home had been super abusive.

When she first got to her new home, this sweet girl was definitely wary of everything. However, after being given some time to decompress, she began showing off her true colors. Who she really is, in case you couldn't tell, is a massive diva.

Related: Pit Bull Acts Like 'Rebellious Teen' When She Doesn't Get What She Wants and It's Hilarious

She gets really, really angry whenever her pillow doesn't have its silk pillowcase on, but she gets even angrier when it isn't fluffed correctly. She has to take matters into her own paws and fluff it herself! She also has some thoughts on her mom's breath:

@jayceebrii

is this normal dog behavior #dog #staffy #staffordshirebullterrier #staffysoftiktok #pitbull

♬ original sound - 𝑨𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒂🫧🎀🌷

That's so funny. She's just like that, and luckily, she managed to find a new mom who loves her for exactly who she is. Even if it's a little humbling sometimes!

Pit Bulls Are Big Babies

Once she found herself in a safe and loving home, this precious girl got to show off the fact that she is a princess at heart. She loves her luxuries!

Pit Bulls get a bad rap because of their history, and you should be careful with them just as you would be with other dogs, but Pit Bulls are not inherently dangerous. In fact, they can be:

  • Emotional.
  • Anxious whenever they're away from you.
  • Demanding.

They bond fiercely with their loved ones, and Pit Bulls love to have things their way. Now run along and fluff your dog's pillow! They deserve it!

This DIY Backyard Cat Paradise Actually Looks Like It Cost a Fortune

4 hours 28 min ago

Cats often ignore the expensive toys and decorations you buy for them. With that thought, one man decided to go in a completely different direction.

Think about this for a second. A cat bed can last several days before it becomes a decoration, and your cat naps on any other object in the home. A cat tree can last a week before it turns into an expensive coat rack.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

So, this cat dad decided to stop buying things and start building with his own hands. In a video posted online, this devoted dad transformed his backyard into what we can say is a five-star feline resort.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/EPR0xi_ukWM

His DIY cat paradise features climbing structures, shaded rest areas, plants, textures, and everything in between. It is the type of outdoor setup that will make many cat parents feel jealous.

Building a DIY Cat Paradise

When you look at the final product, this build is more than just a pretty cat area. This cat dad put thought into the entire setup. He installed elevated platforms for watching the yard, shaded spots for warmer days, and enough varied terrain to keep his cats engaged.

He also added some plants. One commenter flagged the plants as a potential risk, saying, "Cats love pushing plants, cups, or whatever else is on a surface, off. Hopefully, the plants will stay put."

Hopefully, these plants survive.

Putting Your Cats First

The response in the comments cut straight to what made the video land: "Love this guy — how he thinks of making life beautiful for his furry angels."

This is a cat parent who thinks deeply about his animals' environment, not just their food bowl and litter box.

Another viewer put it more simply: "There's no doubt in my mind that these cats know you're doing this for them."

Watching the footage as the cats play around, even as he is building their paradise, it is hard to argue with that comment. The cats in the video look like they belong there.

Why Outdoor Enrichment Matters For Cats

Usually, indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats, but mainly because of the lower risk. Yet, being indoors without enrichment creates more challenges for pet parents. Cats are hunters by instinct. They need to climb, observe, stalk, and occasionally destroy things. A flat apartment with a window gives them very little of that.

Outdoor enclosures, which pet parents call "catios," provide access to fresh air, natural light, and plenty of bird-watching opportunities.

You don't need to build what this guy built. Even a screened porch with a few shelves and some safe plants makes a real difference in a cat's daily experience.

Whatever you try to build, pay attention to how cats move. Not how you imagine they move. Your cats might not get a full backyard resort. But if there's a sunny windowsill that needs a wider shelf, or a wall bracket that could hold a platform, this video is your starting point to think about how to provide more enrichment for your feline friend.

Rescue Cat High-Fives Mom for Saving Her—and It Feels So Right

6 hours 16 min ago

Adopting a cat is not easy at all, even if you find your soul cat. Rescue cats have special needs, and for the first few weeks after you adopt them, things are going to be difficult. They have to adjust to you and life inside their home, but over time, you can trust that they will get there.

One rescue cat decided to seal the deal with her mom in a very interesting way: a high five. It's one of the only tricks she knows, but she pulled it out in order to say thank you:

@kibble_slinger

Countless people walked by her every day, and no one stopped to help. By the time we got there she was barely clinging to life. She was gasping for air with an upper respiratory infection, had lost a litter of kittens resulting in an infected uterus (pyometra), and an infected foot where she was missing half a toe. Sadie is why TNR saves lives. She would have died on the street. Instead she is loved and cared for by the Sunshine Pines community. She even has a boyfriend, our colony king Papa. Please choose kindness today so we can continue to give Sadie the life she deserves, and help other cats that need TNR and vet services (we just spotted loose kittens in town!). You really do make the difference and we can’t do it without you. #cats #lovecats #tnrworks

♬ original sound - kibble_slinger

The Kibble Slinger definitely earned that high-five. Clearly, as a kibble slinger, she's the one feeding all of these cats, so they all trust her.

This kitty's name is Sadie, and her story is so sad. She's a member of a feral cat colony, and she was in very rough shape. She had a respiratory infection, an infection in her uterus after she miscarried a litter of kittens, and an infected foot. And still, no one helped her until the Kibble Slinger came along.

Sadie's colony lives on their new property, which they had no idea about when they moved in. There are 43 cats in the colony, and they've begun the very important, humane TNR process for all of them. There's another cat in the colony whose eyes really show how tough this life can be:

@kibble_slinger

So they left all the cats, but how did we get here? It all started when we humans met by chance when a stranger saved my life In 2020 that stranger turned husband survived an accidental gsw to the head at a home renovation. He woke from his coma completely paralyzed except for one thumb & said he wanted to ‘rescue a ton more cats.’ The doctors told me he would never leave the hospital. I told them “you don’t know us.” After 3 brain surgeries, a stroke, countless complications, seizures and five years of fighting, he can walk. We bought a little house way out in middle of nowhere so we could build a micro farmstead & cat sanctuary.. It just came with a few surprises - more than 40 sick, starved, pregnant & unfixed cats & kittens running loose! With the love and support of viewers like you, we've been able to fix, feed, shelter, and vet all 40+ survivors. We’ve also been able to help TNR cats in our local community & have plans to build a mobile TNR/Pet Pantry &storm rescue vehicle to bring help further into remote mountain communities here. Currently we’re sorting through medical issues(9 stomatitis kitties), allergies, socialization, infrastructure (building catios & making the house more fun), growing a food supply, and setting up Meemaw merch (out now)! Please help us, two disabled folks (I’m 4th generation Ehlers Danlos/heds, POTS & more) help this massive kitty family live their best grain free lives -both of us have Celiac Disease, but CatDad has TBI related gluten seizures so we have to be super strict! That means we need grain free food, World’s Best Cat Litter & other supplies from our wishlist because with a family this large, it really does take a village! We just can’t do it without you. #cats #rescuedcats #catcolony #sunshinepinesrescue

♬ Our Love Was Beautiful - Instrumental Version - Straight White Teeth

This is so sad. I feel awful for them, but I'm glad someone who cares about them finally has them under control. For most of them, TNVR is the answer.

Why TNVR Saves Lives

TNVR, or Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Release, is a very common method for aiding feral cats, especially in rural communities. There is no equal access to vets, shelters, or loving homes everywhere, after all.

Image via Shutterstock / Vera Aksionava

TNVR is vital to keeping cats safe, even indoor cats. Unfortunately, there are not enough homes in the world to take in all the stray cats, and even if there were, they're most likely not going to be equipped to handle feral cats. TNVR does not take the cats off the streets permanently, but it:

  • Prevents mating, inbreeding, and overpopulation.
  • Stops the spread of diseases.
  • Gives the organization a chance to see if the cat is in need of urgent care.

So, while TNVR doesn't end with a loving home, it is absolutely a lifesaving procedure. If you're looking for a way to help feral cats around you, please consider joining a TNVR organization!

This Adorable Asian Dog's Reaction to Meeting an American for the First Time Is Too Cute to Pass Up

6 hours 28 min ago

Not all dogs are golden retrievers, nor should they be. For some dogs, warming up to a person takes time. Even more if that person is different than anyone you have previously met.

For one dog living in Asia, meeting a white American was a complete surprise. He had never met someone like him before, so the moment he saw his dad's friend for the first time, he reacted.

A Name Fit for a Great Dog

The dog, called Nyan, has a very specific name. He was found on the street around the new year. His dad took him and gave him a name that carried a meaning. His name means "year" in his dad's language. His full name, Da Nyan, translates to "a year of bountiful harvest/"

For a few months, he lived happily with his new dad. Then, a tall, pale, English-speaking American arrived at his house—and Nyan had questions!

Three Days of Pure Suspicion

His dad posted on Reddit's r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog, explaining that Nyan kept a careful, anxious distance from his dad's visiting friend. He explained, "He is being very nervous around him for the first three days."

There is a perfectly good reason for it. The friend, according to the dog's dad, is "very pale, speaks weirdly (he mostly speaks English), has lighter colored hair, and is really really tall."

That means for Nyan, the new guy has visual and spoken differences.

Related: Mama Was the 15-Year Shelter Dog No One Noticed—Until This Moment

Dogs Can Understand Different Languages

One Reddit commenter said that dogs don't always like hearing a new language. And the science backs that up.  was onto something real. A 2022 study from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest used brain scans on 18 dogs to show that different brain regions lit up depending on the language they heard.

The study found that dogs can distinguish between a familiar and an unfamiliar language. Nyan, a dog raised in Asia, instantly recognized that the visitor spoke a different language. And that felt strange.

The Internet Had Its Day With Nyan

One person said, "He's so pretty. He has nothing to be ashamed of — no one has ever regretted being too suspicious of us white folks."

Another said, "I would pet and give snacks to after he's done freaking out about me being white."

How Dogs Warm Up to People

Nyan's three-day arc is not unusual for a nervous or street-rescued dog. Dogs that didn't have proper socialization as puppies, or those who spent time on the streets, often carry a wariness of unfamiliar appearances, sounds, or behaviors into adulthood.

What helps is when the new person ignores the dog entirely at first. Let the dog keep its distance, and make the first move. When curiosity begins to top anxiety, dogs approach people on their own terms, usually by sniffing from a safe distance.

Nyan took three days, but as his dad said, "Now he's warming up to my friend (a little bit, but it's progress because he's always scared of everything)."

For a dog that came from the streets, being scared of everything, slowly deciding that the tall, pale, English-speaking stranger might be okay after all is more than a small moment.

Heart to Tail Collapsible Pet Pool, $12.99 at Aldi

Aldi

Back in stock after a bit of a hiatus, Aldi's Heart to Tail Collapsible Pet Pool last made its rounds in 2020, winning over fans for its easy setup and portable design. Now, it's returning in an updated form with vibrant summer colors like Watermelon, Blue and Teal. And with a price tag as low as $12.99, snagging one if you have the space feels like an absolute no-brainer.

So what do you get with your $13 purchase? For starters, a compact above-ground pool measuring roughly 31.5 inches in diameter and 7.9 inches deep. Best of all, there's no inflation required, and it folds down easily so you can pack it away for storage or travel purposes. Even better, it's simple to fill and drain, complete with a twist-off cap that empties the pool in seconds.

Aldi

As a quick care tip, it's a good idea to trim your pet's nails before they hop in, to help keep the pool in great shape over time. The lightweight, foldable design makes it easy to move and store, but a little extra care goes a long way in keeping the vinyl sidewalls and base durable for the long run.

That said, because of its smaller size, some pets may enjoy it more than others, but that doesn't mean most breeds can't still have a good time. Whether it's used as a quick cold plunge for larger dogs or a wading pool for smaller ones, its compact size makes it easy to use in just about any outdoor setting.

With summer heating up, you and your furry friend will be glad to have something this convenient on hand. And if you have a small child, it can also double as a little wading pool. Just be sure to snag one fast when it arrives on Wednesday, May 27. And while you're at it, check out how 277 dogs just made history at the world's largest pool party in Miami.

Wildlife Experts Share the Most Common Mistake People Make With Orphaned Baby Animals

8 hours 28 min ago

Warmer weather brings something that wildlife experts call "baby season." As the sun comes out, so do baby wild animals.

For many people, the first instinct is to help. But that might cause more harm than good. Naturally, when you see a baby animal, you assume the worst. But most of the time, these animals are not abandoned.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Per the Humane World for Animals, it is important to assess the situation before engaging with a wild animal.

Per John Griffin, a senior managing director of urban wildlife at the organization, "While it is critical to provide care for animals in need of help, it is equally as important to assess the situation to determine whether intervention is truly necessary. Wild animals typically do best when they're raised by their parents."

Most people think they are being cruel by leaving the animal in need on its own. But that is not cruelty. You are being compassionate without context. And the context is what matters.

Related: One Man Went Searching for Wisconsin's Weirdest Bird Story—and Actually Found It

Baby Animals Are Not on Their Own

You might not realize it, but in the wild, mothers leave their young hidden and unattended for hours at a time. This is their way of teaching survival instincts. It is not abandonment.

For example, a deer doe will visit and nurse her babies only a few times a day. They are trying to avoid drawing predators to their location. If you see a fawn lying still in tall grass, calm and quiet, that is completely normal. The young baby uses stillness as their defense.

Parade Pets covered a moment just like this recently, when a fawn walked directly up to a family during their stroll through the woods. The family did everything right: they watched, they marveled, and they walked away. That fawn was fine.

Baby rabbits follow the same logic. Mothers visit their nest only two times in a 24-hour period, at dawn and dusk. If you happen to find a nest of small rabbits in your yard, check whether the mother will come back. Do not intervene.

How to Tell When an Animal Needs Help

There are real signs that a baby wild animal is in trouble. According to Humane World for Animals, those include: a featherless bird on the ground, a shivering animal, a visibly injured animal, one covered in parasites, or a baby crying continuously while wandering. Or, the biggest sign, a dead adult nearby.

If any of those apply, or if the animal has been in a cat or dog's mouth even briefly, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Baby Foxes Are a Special Case

Fox kits tend to look unsupervised when they're actually not. They'll play around a den site while their parents are out hunting. Sometimes, the parents can be gone for hours. If the kits look healthy and energetic, leave them alone. Call for help if the baby foxes look weak, or if you know for sure their parents are dead. The video below explains more about how foxes hunt.

Recently, we wrote about a family that discovered a red fox had made a den directly beneath their front porch. The kits were napping on the welcome mat. Their response was perfect: they watched from a distance, kept their cat indoors, and let the fox family do what fox families do.

What to Do If You Encounter Young Wildlife Animals

According to the Humane World for Animals, every baby animal deserves different treatment. If you have already picked them, here is guidance on handling the situation.

A deer doe will still want her fawn back, even if a human has handled it. Your best action is to return the fawn to the exact location where you found it. Then leave the area, as the mother will not return while you are standing there.

If you find baby rabbits, wear gloves when handling nesting material. Then, use yarn or sticks in a tic-tac-toe pattern over the nest. Come back after 24 hours, and if the pattern has been disturbed but the nest is still covered, the mother has come back.

Most importantly, observe before you act, and when in doubt, call a wildlife rehabilitator rather than guessing.

Majestic Bald Eagle Struts Around Like a Diva in Her Hilarious 'Fish-Flops'

9 hours 16 min ago

Animals don't really have clothes (unless we give them some). They're content with their fur, feathers, and scales, and usually don't even really like it when we do put clothes on them. They live life the natural way.

Well, except for one Bald Eagle. She recently decided it was time to make some shoes, so she used what she had, creating a new trend. Fish-flops! I don't think I could rock these, but she really makes them work:

@christinescritters

‘Tis the season for FISH-FLOPS! We love when Aurora dons her fish-flops to get her fish to where she would like to eat lunch! #aurora #christinescritters #lovemyjob #dayinthelife #fishflops

♬ original sound - Christine’s Critters Inc.

Christine's Crittersl include this incredible Bald Eagle, Aurora. Apparently, Aurora has been trying to bring fish-flops into style for a long time. She dons them almost every time someone gives her a fish, unless they give it to her in her favorite lunch spot.

They love seeing her fish-flops, so something tells me they typically don't give it to her in her favorite spot. So, when they don't, she picks it up with her huge talons and walks on it until she gets there. Not only is it super fashionable and funny, but it's also smart.

Related: This Mama Bald Eagle’s Dedication to Her Babies Is Melting Hearts

Miss Fish-Flops is currently going through it. It's molting season, and as the resident fashionista, she wants to be in top shape at all times. Thus, she never slacks off with her personal hygiene:

@christinescritters

Aurora takes her personal hygiene VERY seriously, eapecially during molting season. Molting can be itchy business and leads to scratching itches and shaking out those feathers with a good rouse ❤️ #christinescritters #eagle #aurora #lovemyjob #dayinthelife

♬ Jurassic Park Theme - The Hit Crew

Some people are concerned about her talon straps, but they're for her own safety. This is a wildlife rescue, so these birds (and other critters) can't live in the wild. If Aurora was to take flight and leave, things wouldn't end well for her.

How Eagles Protect Their Food

Aurora's fish-flops are the best way to transport her food, and they're the best way to keep it safe. She's doing the best she can!

gjohnstonphoto / Getty Images

If an Eagle is going to move their food to eat it, whether they're eating it themselves or sharing it with their young, they're going to use their feet. It's much more efficient than using their beaks, because it:

  • Offers security: they can pierce it with their talons to keep it steady.
  • Helps defense: no smaller bird is going to try to wrestle a fish from those talons.
  • Allows them to carry larger prey than with just their beaks.

Christine and everyone at her wildlife rescue love to see Aurora's awesome fish-flops, but one thing is important to remember: you can look, but you should never touch!

This Clever Cat Invented a Special 'Secret Language' Just to Communicate With His Blind Sister

9 hours 17 min ago

The stereotype that cats are antisocial is exactly that, a stereotype. Cats can be incredibly affectionate, especially with each other.

Analia Serebrenik, who goes by @analia383 on TikTok, is a mom to two adorable cats, Fil andDoja. Doja does not have eyes, rendering her fully blind. But her brother, Fil, has created an entire feline language just to communicate with her and let her know where he is and what he's up to. Analia shared their special interactions on her social media.

@analia383

#blindcat #cat #catsoftiktok

♬ original sound - Analia Serebrenik

The little sounds Fil makes for Doja are distinct and not at all like a typical meow from your average cat. They're clearly specifically for her. Analia hypothesized in the video that they're his way of letting his sister know he's making sure he's watching over her.

Commenters on the post were quick to point out the uniqueness of the situation and Fil's communication style:

"That's almost identical to the sound that mama kitties make to call their kittens."

"I just saw a post that cats don't typically vocalize to each other, only to humans, so this is extra special."

"I hear 'I love you' in there...what a darling boy."

What Cat Vocalizations Mean

Even without a blind cat sibling, cats have a plethora of different vocalizations that you can hear from them. The standard ones we're all familiar with; purring means a cat is content, whereas hissing means they're aggravated and warning you. But there are more in the mix, as well. Chirping can indicate excitement, trilling is a kind of a greeting, and the typical meow is the most common way cats communicate with humans. Yowling or howling is a sign of distress, something more high-pitched and sharp can mean they're surprised, and if your cat growls they're certainly telling you to "back off."

Most pet owners become incredibly tuned in to the different ways their animals communicate. It's pretty remarkable when you can learn the language that your pets have with each on top of the language that they use with you.

Cockatoo Reunites With Dad After 5 Days—Then Has the Sweetest Reaction

9 hours 21 min ago

As pet parents, we don't get to decide how our fur children feel when we leave them, even if it's just for a short time. Some might act cold to let us know they're not happy we went away, but others throw a full-on celebration in our honor.

Charlie, the Cockatoo, may have wondered why his favorite human, Dad, was gone for five days, leaving him to the devices of the spare human (aka Mom). The moment this Parrot realizes Dad's home, he does the cutest thing!

This is the kind of love we all deserve:

♬ original sound - Charlie Junior The Cockatoo How Long Cockatoos Remember People They Love

As one of the smartest bird species on the planet, Cockatoos are capable of remembering people they love for many years. Some studies suggest they may even remember their people throughout the span of their whole lives, which can be multiple decades (50 to 60 years or more) when living domestically.

This has to do with the strong bonds these social, extremely intelligent birds form with their human "flock," making it easy-peasy to remember our faces, routines, and voices. Some Parrots might hold a grudge and show it when reunited with a parent, but others are just thrilled to see them again.

You can tell from Charlie's immediate excitement the moment he spotted Dad, that he was well aware of who he is and how happy it makes him to be reunited. Now, they can finally get back to business with their epic nightly song and dance time!

Rare Albino Squirrel Delights Onlookers While Scaling a Tree in London

9 hours 46 min ago

No matter where you live, there's a good chance you're going to see at least some evidence of wildlife when you go outside. From pigeons to squirrels to insects, whoever you spot is a reminder that you're actually spending time in their outdoor home, not yours (though plenty of animals are happy to share their corner of nature).

Every once in a while, you might even spot a rare creature, like the albino squirrel in the video below. This little guy looks like a Pokémon character or the star of an animated Disney movie, but they are very real!

@abcnews

A man couldn’t believe his luck after he spotted an “albino” squirrel scaling a tree in London, England. Albinism occurs in one in 100,000 squirrels, according to a University of Texas biologist. #animals #squirrels #london

♬ original sound - ABC News - ABC News

On Wednesday, May 20, ABC News shared this clip of a man who discovered an albino squirrel scampering up a tree while he was outdoors in London. Not exactly where you'd expect a sighting like this to take place, but it really did happen!

Since the squirrel lives in a big city, it's not surprising to see that they weren't really bothered by a human noticing them, allowing us to get a really good look at their beautiful white fur (and precious face).

See all that delight on this man's face? That's exactly how I would feel if I got to see one of these squirrels up close and personal. How cool!

Related: This Sweet Squirrel Treats a Tiny Calico Critter Toy Like Her Baby

How Rare Are Albino Squirrels?

True albino squirrels are pretty rare, so this man was right to be in awe when he spotted one in the wild. Many experts agree that the chances that an albino squirrel will be born to a gray squirrel is about 1 in 100,000, so that explains why they're so uncommon.

Location also matters when it comes to the likelihood of spotting these beautiful creatures. One website dedicated to the wildlife of the Smoky Mountains points out that certain areas are home to albino squirrel colonies. They seem to flock to urban areas out of safety, since there are less predators who can reach them in the middle of a big city!

Also, don't forget that white squirrels are actually a thing, so not every white squirrel you spot will have albinism.

How to Tell If a Squirrel Is Albino

A true albino squirrel will have pink eyes (like the one in the video), while a white squirrel will have dark-colored eyes. These squirrels are called leucystic squirrels, which have less skin pigmentation thanks to their genetics but not a total absence of pigmentation like those with albinism.

So keep your eyes open while you're taking a walk in the park, because you might just be lucky enough to spot one of these little beauties.

Bulldog Squeezes Into a Stroller Like 'Tight Jeans' — and It's Impressive

10 hours 6 min ago

We've all been there. We want to fit into that special outfit that's smaller than anticipated, but go to great lengths to make it work. Whether it's sucking that stomach in or finding just the right angle to slip on that dress or those pants, the mission is to get that garment on one way or another.

Gunner the Bulldog wasn't dealing with a fashion issue, yet size presented a problem when he wanted to sit in a stroller.

@gunnertheenglishbully

It took him a while but he did it 😂#englishbulldog #dog #funny #englishbulldogsoftiktok #cute

♬ original sound - GunnerTheEnglishBully

In the TikTok from @gunnertheenglishbully, the precious pooch spotted the stroller from across the room and wanted to get cozy. He tried to hoist himself up from the floor but realized it was too high. Strategically finding another approach, Gunner jumped on the coach and was able to start stepping in the stroller.

Everything was going well with his front paws, but it got a bit dicey when he had to bring over his back end. Gunner shimmied, wiggled, and rearranged his body like a canine contortionist. The Bulldog beauty's determination was admirable, showing no signs of giving up until he accomplished his goal.

Finally, Gunner situated himself in the stroller. Though the fit was a bit snug, he achieved his goal. Gunner held out his paw to his mom for a high five in a show of victory.

"It took him a while, but he did it," the caption raved.

Followers applauded Gunner's commitment and related to the dog's dilemma.

"Me trying to fit in my jeans every day," one shared.

"Ok, I think it's time for a 'larger' stroller," another advised.

"Definitely not his first rodeo!" a follower remarked.

"That wiggle to make himself fit, like putting on tight jeans!!" someone noted.

How Big Do English Bulldogs Get?

This popular breed can weigh between 40 and 50 pounds and stand at 12 to 15 inches tall as adults. While those numbers aren't considered astronomical, the Bulldog's bulky build is what puts them into the stocky category. They usually stop growing at around 24 months.

Gunner has the trademark Bulldog physique and knows how to make it work when he needs to squeeze into a small space.

Heroic Firefighters Use a Genius, Unexpected Trick to Rescue a Terrified Cat Trapped in a Deep Drain

10 hours 26 min ago

A terrified cat trapped inside an enormous drain had rescuers in Malaysia scrambling to find a way to reach it. After an initial attempt didn’t work, the group of firefighters came up with a clever new plan—and what happened next had everyone on pins and needles.

It’s unclear how the cat became stranded in Selangor, Malaysia, but the outcome could have been much worse without the persistence of the local “abang bomba” (a colloquial term for firefighters) in saving it.

Firefighters first tried lowering an open, upside-down umbrella to scoop up the cat to safety, but when the critter couldn't be coaxed inside, they quickly changed course. One rescuer carefully climbed down into the drain with a bucket that was lowered alongside him, and moments later, the frightened feline was gently placed inside and gingerly hoisted to safety.

The gathering crowd cheered when the cat made it topside.

@themalaymail

Thank you abang bomba for saving the kitty 🥹 #malaymail #cat #firefighters

♬ original sound - themalaymail - themalaymail

The comment section was overflowing with expressions of gratitude, calling the firefighters "heroes" for saving this little kitty's life.

Firefighters are often the first to respond to pet emergencies, but are they the best people to call? 'Yes' is usually the answer, but different situations can call for different experts.

Who to Call If You Find an Animal in Trouble

If you come across an animal in distress, your first instinct might be to jump in and help—but knowing who to call can make all the difference.

For an immediate, life-threatening animal emergency, such as an animal trapped somewhere dangerous, calling 911 is always best. Calling in emergency responders not only protects the animal—it ensures the rescue is done quickly and without putting anyone else at risk. Firefighters are often trained and equipped to handle complex rescues, using both specialized tools and creative problem-solving to ensure a safe outcome.

And if you're unsure of whom to call, a 911 operator can also redirect you to the proper contact, such as your local department of animal control for help with stray animals or your local wildlife rescue for help with wild animals. The American Humane Society can also assist with animals you suspect might be suffering abuse or neglect.

Related: This One State Was Just Ranked the Most Dog-Friendly Place to Travel

For pets with medical emergencies, experts say your first call should always be to your veterinarian, since they know the animal’s medical history and can give the most appropriate advice quickly. If your regular vet isn’t available, a local emergency animal hospital is the next best option. You can also contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center or the Pet Poison Helpline, where veterinary professionals are available 24/7 to guide you through urgent situations. According to Dr Phillip's Animal Hospital, all pet parents should save these numbers to their phones just like they would the contacts for human emergencies.

Knowing who to call – and being prepared with the correct contact information – can turn a stressful moment into a successful outcome. Whether it’s a quick-thinking firefighter, a trusted veterinarian, or a trained specialist, having the right help on speed dial can make all the difference for an animal in need.

This Tennessee Chihuahua Rescue of 100 Dogs Is Breaking Hearts and Giving Hope

10 hours 56 min ago

The barking inside the house is almost overwhelming at first.

Tiny dogs crowd every corner of the home, climbing over debris and one another while rescuers work carefully through heartbreaking conditions to save as many animals as possible.

@nc5nashville

100+ pups rescued from hazardous home in Rutherford Co., Tenn. Our Nick Beres took us inside to see how groups like Animal Rescue Corps literally save the day. The dogs will be treated and cared for at the ARC emergency rescue in Gallatin. @arcorps dogs rescue #tennessee

TikTok user @nc5nashville shared footage from a massive rescue operation in Rutherford County, Tennessee, where Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) stepped in to save more than 100 vulnerable dogs living in severe overcrowding and neglect.

According to ARC, Rescuers Ultimately Removed:

• 133 Chihuahuas
• 1 large dog
• 12 cats

...from the property during what they called “Operation Little Dogs, Big Hearts.”

Related: Rescued Lab Beagle Discovers His Favorite Toy—and His Joy Is Absolutely Contagious

The rescue team first responded after family members sought help for elderly relatives who could no longer properly care for the animals or keep them safely in the home.

But when ARC arrived, responders quickly realized the situation was far worse than expected.

The Organization Described:

Severe overcrowding
• Dangerous, unsanitary conditions
• Floors covered in accumulated feces
• Animals showing signs of stress and aggression
• Serious, untreated medical conditions

Some of the Dogs Reportedly Suffered From:

• Fight injuries
• Respiratory distress
• Tumors
• Eye infections and ulcers
• Severe dental disease
• Congestive heart failure

Several pregnant dogs, nursing mothers, and vulnerable puppies were rescued first during an emergency assessment before teams returned days later to remove every remaining animal from the property.

One especially emotional detail involved four puppies born after intake at the ARC Rescue Center. Tragicall,y only one survived, though rescuers say the surviving puppy is now beginning to thrive.

People watching the rescue online were emotional not only about the suffering the dogs endured, but also about seeing them finally receive care and compassion.

Many commenters immediately asked how they could adopt one of the rescued Chihuahuas.

ARC Explained:

• “We don’t adopt out directly from our shelter.”
• Once healthy, the animals will be transferred to rescue and adoption partners across the country.

Other Viewers Focused on Gratitude for the Rescuers Themselves:

• “So amazing to watch in real time!”
• “Thank you from the heart.”
• “This will be a day I will NEVER forget.”
• “To see the community coming together was amazing.”
• “So grateful for the selfless actions of all who helped.”

Honestly, one of the most moving parts of large-scale rescue stories like this is seeing how quickly scared, exhausted animals can begin relaxing once they're finally safe.

Ragdoll Cat’s Graceful Spins Are Giving Tiny Ballerina Energy

11 hours 16 min ago

A cat's true colors really come out whenever it's time to play. They might be uppity and chill all day, but when their favorite toy comes out, they become like kittens again. It's one of the best things about having a cat!

For one Ragdoll, her favorite toy turns her into an adorable ballerina. It's one of those toys on a string, so her mom was able to bounce it around and get the best spins out of her aspiring dancer:

@gojo.the.ragdoll

I think he’s in, what do you think? #cat #cats #catsoftiktok #ragdoll #ballet @Mackenzie Davis

♬ Waltz of the flowers (The nutcracker suite) Main Theme(1074033) - Maenomeri48

Gojo the Ragdoll could join The Nutcracker in an instant; her leaps are so good! She loves her feather toy, which is one of the most iconic cat toys ever. Even the laziest cats love toys like this: it's just impossible not to want to jump after it!

Gojo typically doesn't practice her ballet unless the feather toy is out, but that's all part of training. As she gets older, she'll learn to dance on her own, and then her career on Broadway can really begin.

Related: Ragdoll Kitten’s Zoomies on Her Walk Prove Everyone Wrong About the Breed

When she's got her feather toy, she's always playing like a graceful ballerina. However, since she's just a kitten, there are some times when she has to play in a less graceful way. For example, whenever she sees some balloons:

@gojo.the.ragdoll

♬ Tchaikovsky "Dance of the Reed Flutes"(1257471) - kzy

Maybe the feather toy helps her hone her ballet skills, and the balloons are good for her breakdancing skills. She's still got some impressive spins even on the floor.

What Kind of Toys Do Ragdolls Like?

Enrichment is the most important part of having an indoor cat. Keeping your cat indoors is what's best for them and the environment, but it also means you'll have to compensate with lots of toys, places to climb, and other things to do.

Image via Shutterstock / jurra8

Ragdoll cats need a few different types of toys, including:

  • Independent play toys, like balls, automatic toys, or those plastic springs.
  • Interactive toys, like the feather on a string, to allow them to have some playtime with you.
  • Different textures to keep them interested.

Each cat will be slightly different in what they prefer: just try everything until you find their favorite ones! Clearly, Gojo prefers her favorite feathery toys!

Dachshund Gets Her First Haircut—and Mom Completely Loses It

11 hours 56 min ago

Whether it's human babies or fur babies, the first haircut is always a big deal.

And for this Dachshund's first haircut, her mom's reaction to the before-and-after transformation is hilarious.

Lady's mom, influencer Abby Baffoe, couldn't have had a funnier and sweeter reaction to her dog's haircut.

"Look at the little bow!" Baffoe squeals.

In classic influencer mode, she does a full reveal of Lady's beautiful first haircut when she gets home to show off the great work the groomer did.

She's sure to point out that Lady no longer has those Grinchy feet (though those are really the best part of Longhaired Dachshunds, but they will return!).

Do Dachshunds Need Haircuts?

How often Dachshunds need haircuts depends on the type of hair they have.

Smooth-haired and Wirehaired Dachshunds are a bit more low-maintenance pups when it comes to haircut maintenance than Longhaired Dachshunds.

Because Longhaired Dachshunds have long, silky coats, they require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles.

Regular haircuts should also be in a rotation of about every six to eight weeks, as well as frequent baths.

"Grinchy" feet are quite cute, but their hair could get so long that they may end up tripping or getting their hair caught on something if it's too long.

Even though this may have been Lady's first haircut, her bath routine has been next-level and definitely contributed to her transformation.

Lady's bath routine includes gentle scrubs and a few kisses, followed by a little towel session, and then finally a full, glamorous blowout.

Lady, the Dachshund, seems to love all the attention from Mom and getting her beautiful hair blown out.

Maine Coon Kitten Is Already 3 Feet Long—and Mom Is Freaking Out

12 hours 16 min ago

Maine Coons are famously huge. You can't have a Maine Coon without their sheer size; otherwise, that's just a regular cat. However, there are some people who really don't understand just how big these impressive cats are.

Take this one for example: this Maine Coon kitten is just a year old, and he's already about 3 feet long. When his mom picked him up, he was over half as long as she was! If that's not freaky enough, he's going to keep growing for 4 more years:

Jessica Lopez is totally in love with her Maine Coon, Maximus, and for good reason. Sometimes you hear someone say their cat is a Maine Coon and you're like, "I think that's just a big cat..." But there is absolutely no question about Max.

He's a Smoke Maine Coon: you can tell because of the light-dark pattern of his fur. It looks like he might be mixed with another type of Maine Coon: his coat looks a little patchy. However, that's not the most important thing about Maximus.

Related: This Massive White Maine Coon’s Tail Makes Her Look Like a Dragon

Maximus, at a year old, is already over 3 feet long from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He's not 3 feet tall; that would make him about as tall as a Great Dane! He's about 2 feet tall, and he weighs almost 20 pounds. He also recently became a father:

These kittens are so beautiful. Judging by how big they already are, I know they'll probably get just as big as their daddy is!

Maine Coons Grow Like Crazy

Maximus the Maine Coon has definitely done quite a bit of growing in the last year. He might look full-size, like he's almost done growing, but he's not! There's still a lot left for him to do!

Image via Shutterstock / ShotPrime Studio

For the first year of their lives, Maine Coons grow rapidly, basically doubling in size frequently. By the time they're a year old, they might look full grown, but they still continue to grow. Over the 3-5 years, Maine Coons continue to develop:

  • Muscle.
  • Their adult coats.
  • Maturity.
  • Sharper facial features.

Male Maine Coons take longer to reach full-grown than females, so Maximus might take the full 5 years. Regardless, he has a long way to go: he's just a 3-foot baby!
