Neglected Golden Retriever Finds a Forever Home and Her Glow-up Is Hard To Believe

Sat, 05/02/2026 - 8:20am

Some stories don’t need a lot of explanation. You can see everything in a dog’s face. The uncertainty, the quiet, the way they hold themselves like they are not quite sure what is going to happen next. And then, sometimes, you get to see what happens when that same dog finally feels safe.

This Golden Retriever’s story starts in a way that is hard to sit with for long. According to the caption, she is a nine month old rescue who had never had a name, never lived inside a home, and had been isolated outside since she was just eight weeks old.

The adorable clip was posted by the TikTok account for @kaikothegolden.kehlani and it captures her very first night in a real home. In the beginning, she looks small in a way that has nothing to do with size. Sitting still, a little unsure, almost like she is trying to understand what this new space means and whether she is allowed to relax in it.

One comment pointed out, “Trying not to fall asleep in the first clip because she’s used to having to be ready to defend herself,” and that really stays with you. Because it explains that look. That hesitation.

But then the video shifts, and everything changes.

Suddenly she is wearing a soft pink hoodie, moving freely, playing, and even interacting with a gray tabby cat like she has always belonged there. Her whole presence is different. Lighter. Brighter. Like she finally understands that this is home.

“Talk about a glow up,” one person wrote, and it is exactly that, but it also feels like more than just a glow up. It feels like relief.

“I can't so cute!! I love that you rescued a golden,” another comment read, pointing out something important. Not every Golden Retriever comes from a breeder. Some are waiting for this exact kind of second chance.

“Bless her she’s so happy now,” someone else added, and that is really the takeaway. Not just that she looks different, but that she feels different.

I keep thinking about how quickly dogs can change when they are given safety and consistency. And also how my cat Meatball would react to a new puppy in a pink hoodie, which is to say he would immediately sit on her and claim her as part of the household inventory.

What is the 3-3-3 Rule with Shelter Dogs? @simonsits

If you’re having trouble adjusting to life with your new dog, this video is for you!

♬ original sound - Isabel Klee

The 3-3-3 rule is a simple way to understand how dogs adjust to a new home after being adopted. It breaks the transition into three general stages that many rescue dogs experience.

The first three days are all about decompression. During this time, dogs may feel overwhelmed, scared, or unsure of their surroundings. They might be quiet, withdrawn, or extra cautious as they take everything in.

The first three weeks are when they start to settle in. This is when their personality begins to show, routines start to form, and they become more comfortable with their new environment and the people around them.

By three months, many dogs begin to fully feel at home. They build trust, feel secure, and start to show their true personality more consistently.

Every dog is different, but this guideline helps set realistic expectations. Moments like the one in this video are a reminder that sometimes all it takes is time, patience, and a safe place for a dog to completely transform.

Man Chooses Sweet “Void” Cat Over 2 Others—Tiny Surprise Wins Him Over

Sat, 05/02/2026 - 7:48am

Most people walk into an animal shelter with a list of traits they're looking for only to walk out with the cat that ultimately chooses them.

One man shared his own version of this scenario over on Reddit in r/cats. He walked into a shelter thinking he might leave with a tabby cat, but it was actually a black cat who flipped his decision in a matter of seconds.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

There were three cats he felt drawn to on his visit: two tabbies and one black cat sitting calmly and watching. The choice didn’t come easy until the black cat did something simple and disarming: he rolled over and allowed a belly rub almost immediately. No hesitation. No flinching. Just trust.

That cat is now named Leonard and living his best life. His new dad wrote on Reddit, “I'm looking forward to him getting more comfortable with me and explore the rest of the house.”

[Request] Food Pantry closed until tomorrow. Been Starving all day.
by u/Pink_cigarette in Random_Acts_Of_Pizza What's a "Void" Cat?

Black cats like Leonard are often called "voids" online. It started as a joke. In certain lighting, their features disappear into a smooth silhouette, like a pair of eyes floating in darkness. But the nickname stuck because it captures something else too.

These cats often have a quiet, observant presence. They watch first. Then they decide.

And when they choose you, it feels deliberate.

The Moment That Changed Everything

If you’ve ever been in a shelter, you know the feeling. You walk in thinking you’ll be rational about it. Then one animal breaks your plan completely.

In Leonard’s case, it wasn’t a dramatic moment. No loud meow. No paw reaching through the cage. Just a relaxed roll onto his back and an invitation most cats would never offer a stranger.

That small act said everything.

People online picked up on it instantly. One commenter wrote, "He loves you already. Leonard is gorgeous."

Another added, "Black cats are the best. They are truly the most grateful creatures." There’s something to that. Cats that have lived as strays often develop a different kind of bond once they feel safe, and it seems like Leonard is happy and feeling safe in his forever home.

The First Day Home Is Never What You Expect

Leonard is about 10 months old. He spent three weeks in the shelter. He is still young and figuring things out. His first day in his new home looked exactly how you’d expect from a former stray.

He found the safest place he could think of—under the bed.

He stayed there for hours, then quietly emerged to sit by the window. For a moment, it looked like he was settling in. Then a distant dog barked, and he retreated again.

He then spent the next few hours with his new pet parent on the bed, sitting by his side. Then, in one moment, he slowly walked into his parent’s lap and sat down, safe and sound.

Looking Forward to His New Life

Leonard is still adjusting to his new life in a high-rise apartment. His parent set up a dedicated base camp with food, water and a litter tray in a room in his apartment so that Leonard can adjust in a safe, smaller space before exploring the rest of the home.

The approach allows a former stray to process new sounds, like distant dog barks, without feeling overwhelmed by the entire layout of a new home.

Given a few days, he’ll start venturing further. Eventually, he’ll claim a spot in the house like he’s always owned it. And one day soon, he’ll roll over again for a belly rub with no hesitation.

Street Dog 'Pushed Out of Her Pack' Now Waits for Forever Home

Sat, 05/02/2026 - 7:10am

Stray dogs sometimes band together to survive life on the streets, though there are also canines that find it hard to keep up with the pack. Niall Harbison runs into these situations in his work through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo.

The animal advocate recently brought a street dog bullied by other canines back to his sanctuary and hopes to find her a family to call her own.

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo told the story of Curly, whose name is self-explanatory.

"She got her name for one simple reason," the onscreen text shared as the sweet pooch ran on the street, wagging her tail that had a distinct curl. "That curly tail never stops!"

Even though the canine cutie lived most of her life on the streets, she was known for her happy disposition. But after some traumatic bullying incidents, Curly became fearful and reclusive.

"Recently things changed," the story continued as the video showed Curly cowering under a truck. "She was pushed out of her pack and went into hiding."

Curly Is Ready for a Home of Her Own

The rescue founder could immediately tell that Curly needed help and knew what do.

"We knew we had to step in," the text read. "We brought her to Happy Doggo to get her spark back."

Surrounded by the love of Harbison and his team, along with other furry friends, Curly began to flourish. Clips of her joyfully running and even smiling show the progress she's made. Now, Harbison plans to find her a forever home.

"The 'Happy Curly' is officially back, and now she’s looking for the one thing she’s never had: a real home," the caption explained. "Let’s find this girl the family she deserves."

Curly is so full of life and love, she is sure to make a wonderful addition to any caring family.

Aldi’s Frozen Dog Treats Are the Coolest Summer Find for Your Pup

Sat, 05/02/2026 - 6:55am

When the temperatures start climbing, we’re not the only ones looking for ways to cool down—our dogs feel it too. And while shade, water and shorter walks all help, sometimes you just want to give your pup a little something extra to beat the heat.

Enter Aldi’s latest seasonal find: Heart to Tail Frozen Dog Treats

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Heart to Tail Frozen Dog Treats, $2.95 at Aldi Heart to Tail Frozen Dog Treats

Aldi

These frozen dog treats come in a pack of four, priced at $2.95—that's about 74 cents per treat. Each box includes two “Original” and two “Cheese and Bac’n” flavors, giving pups a little variety within the pack.

They’re designed to be served straight from the freezer, offering a cool, creamy treat that’s perfect for hot days

Related: Aldi’s $9 Stanley 1913-Style Tumbler Is the Cutest Find for Dog Moms

What’s Actually Inside?

These treats look a lot like vanilla ice cream, but don’t worry—all of the ingredients are dog-safe. Both flavors are primarily made of water, cheese, and sweet whey powder, so they’re essentially frozen, flavored cheese (and what dog wouldn’t love that?).

They’re free from gluten and artificial flavors, which is a plus for many pet parents. However, they do include some additives and preservatives.

Each treat clocks in at about 97 calories, with high moisture content (around 75 percent), making them more hydrating than your average biscuit-style treat.

Great for a Special Treat (Not an Everyday Staple)

Each individual tub is about 3.5 ounces, which is fairly large for a dog treat. Depending on your dog’s size, you may want to serve it in smaller portions rather than offering the whole thing at once.

In addition to being cooling, the texture of the treat makes it a bit of an activity. Dogs have to lick their way through it, which can help keep them entertained and distracted for a while.

While these treats are fun and refreshing, they're not something you’ll want to give daily. They're not especially nutrient-dense and are best reserved as an occasional, special treat.

A Growing Trend for Dogs

Dog ice cream has been popping up more and more in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a simple way to add enrichment, hydration and a little excitement to your dog’s routine, especially on hot days.

For under $3, Aldi’s version is an easy, budget-friendly way to try the trend. Just keep in mind they’re a seasonal item, typically available only in spring and summer. If you spot them on your next Aldi run, it might be worth grabbing a pack or two before the heat really starts to ramp up.

What Bird Reflects Your Soul, Based on Birth Month

Sat, 05/02/2026 - 6:10am

Did you know that birds are considered to be highly evolved spiritual beings? These feathered creatures are linked to spirituality, and many believe that they can bring messages from the spirit world. Because of that, your birth month may be more meaningful than you think—it could point to a bird that reflects your inner traits. When it comes to finding your soul bird, astrologers reveal that there’s a specific bird that can mirror your soul and matches up with you based on the month you were born. Some birds may speak to divine protection and psychic guidance, while others may reveal things like spiritual omens of love, connection and peace. Read on to discover which bird reflects your birth month as each birth month has its own special cosmic energy thanks to its two corresponding zodiac signs.

Since no two birth months are the same, each one will end up attracting different species of birds, with divine symbolism from nature. Therefore, birds linked with each month will reflect different styles, instincts and energies. “That’s why bird symbolism can be a simple, intuitive way to describe personality patterns,” explains Polina Arutiunian, an astrologer at Nebula. “The connection between humans and animals is often seen through our shared natural environment—the rhythms that shape how we live. Birds, like humans, respond to seasonal changes, available resources and changing conditions.”

Curious about what bird matches your soul? These recommended birds align with your birth month based off of astrology and numerology. See which one you're connected to!

The Bird That Mirrors Your Soul, Based on Your Birth Month

Each birth month is linked to a bird, with expert personality insights behind each match.

January: Raven A raven flying, reflecting the resilient personality traits linked to its January birth month.

January birth months are a mix of hard working Capricorn and freedom-loving Aquarius, creating the best of both worlds. “January sits in the depths of winter, when people tend to stay indoors and conserve resources,” Arutiunian says. “During this time, discipline and the ability to live with limits become especially important. The world shrinks to home and your immediate circle, encouraging restraint and inner composure.” That, combined with astrological energy can create a person who is responsible, patient, and able to follow through, even without outside support. "The raven is a good match for this birth month due to its resilience," Arutiunian reveals.

February: Owl An observant and wise owl in a tree.

It’s no surprise that incredibly wise people are born in this month as February offers a blend of progressive Aquarius and intuitive Pisces. "People born in February may spend more time observing and waiting than moving,” Arutiunian says. "People in this group are adaptable and tend to internalize things. That's why the owl is a good match. This bird is associated with stillness and observation."

March: Swan Two gentle swans that have Pisces and Aries traits.

If you were born in March and are wondering, "Which bird matches my birth month best? you're in luck as astrologers say it's a beautiful species. March is when the empathetic Pisces and brave Aries come together. People with March birthdays enjoy a gentle, emotional connection and are open to learning new things, Arutiunian says. “That can shape someone who’s sensitive, attentive to others and able to absorb information deeply,” she says. The swan, which is “associated with grace and calm,” is a good match, according to Arutiunian.

April: Hawk A Hawk flying with momentum channeling Aries and Taurus.

April sits at the crossroads of Aries and Taurus, blending bold action with steady determination. That combination creates a personality defined by momentum, instinct, and drive. So, what bird captures this birth month's personality and reflects their soul? “People born in this month have an impulse to act, a faster pace and real momentum,” Arutiunian says. "April babies act decisively, jump in quickly and aren’t afraid to take initiative. Therefore a hawk, which relies on instinct and takes quick action, is a good match."

May: Dove A calm and stunning dove flying.

The dove is associated with calm and steadiness, making it a good fit for people with May birthdays. People born during this month have the loyalty of Taurus, along with the outgoing personality of a Gemini. “That can shape someone who values stability, moves patiently and commits to long-term results,” Arutiunian says.

June: Swallow A curious swallow reflecting its June birth month personality.

June-born individuals are often described as adaptable, curious, and socially gifted, with a natural ability to connect with different people and interests. With both Gemini and Cancer influencing this month, their personalities tend to blend curiosity with emotional awareness, according to Arutiunian.

That’s why a quick, social breed like the swallow is considered a natural match for June babies. “The agile and social swallow is a good match for June babies,” she says. “Together, people with June birthdays tend to adapt quickly, make easy connections and stay curious about all kinds of interests.”

July: Duck Ducks who value friendship like July's birth month.

When it comes to birds that mirror the birth month of July, there's one that stands out. After all, July blends Cancer’s deep emotional protectiveness with Leo’s courage, creating a personality driven by loyalty, leadership, and care for others. “That can shape someone who values closeness, supports others and strives to create a stable environment for the people they love,” Arutiunian says. "This balance of warmth and strength is why the duck fits July so well—it represents family bonds, emotional grounding, and the instinct to stay close to what matters most."

August: Peacock A peacock enjoying being the center of attention like August born birth months.

Getty Images Louise Morgan

Which bird best represents the energy of August birthdays? The answer reflects a blend of Leo’s passionate self-expression and Virgo’s steady drive for productivity. Together, these traits create people who are ambitious, detail-oriented, and eager for their efforts to be recognized. “August babies are someone who wants to be seen, share their wins and feel recognized for what they’ve done,” Arutiunian says. "The peacock is an overall symbol of expression and visibility, making it this birth month's soul bird."

September: Pigeon A peaceful pigeon outside.

Getty Images Geraint Rowland Photography

September carries a rare balance of intellect and diplomacy, shaped by the blend of Virgo’s analytical nature and Libra’s pursuit of harmony. “September is the month where Virgo and Libra come together,” Arutiunian points out, creating a shared focus on fairness, cooperation, and emotional balance. “Together, those zodiac signs create a desire for equality and peace.” That combination is why the pigeon stands out as September’s symbolic bird—long associated with unity, calm communication, and the ability to bring people into alignment.

October: Flamingo Flamingos showing off their balance and coordination that is linked to October birth months.

October stands out for its focus on relationships and emotional balance, shaped by the thoughtful nature of Libra and the intuitive depth of Scorpio. Rather than leaning too far in one direction, October-born tend to read situations carefully and adjust in ways that keep harmony intact. “People born in October focus on connection and mutual support,” explains Arutiunian. “They also tend to be diplomatic, considerate and committed to maintaining balance.” That steady sense of poise is why the flamingo represents October birthdays so well—it’s a bird known for balance, coordination, and its striking ability to stand gracefully between strength and elegance.

November: Eagle An eagle soaring through the air.

Getty Images Beata Whitehead

November birth months have a depth that feels both intense and expansive, shaped by Scorpio’s transformative power and Sagittarius’ natural optimism. Rather than staying fixed in one mindset, this combination encourages those to think strategically while still looking toward what’s ahead. “People born in this month tend to be deep thinkers who work strategically with the resources in front of them,” Arutiunian says. "That's why November-born people can relate to an eagle, which is a symbol of strength and focus."

December: Falcon An adventurous falcon resting on a branch.

Getty Images Paul Grace Photography Somersham

The falcon is a symbol of movement and purpose, which lines up well with December babies, according to Arutiunian. This month offers a blend of adventure-ready Sagittarius and wise Capricorn. “That can shape someone who strives for growth, goes beyond the familiar and keeps moving forward even in difficult circumstances,” Arutiunian says.

Labrador Steps in To 'Parent' Human Baby Like He's Done It for Years

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:20pm

It's tough having a new baby at home, and parents can get overwhelmed.

Sometimes, there just isn't a hand to help a crying baby.

Well, that is unacceptable for this protective Labrador with a baby, and when you see what he does next, you will think he was born to be a parent.

You have never seen a dog helping a baby more efficiently in this heartwarming dog video!

@momandmebythesea

He’s had enough of the crying #motherhood #dogsoftiktok #labrador #fyp #baby

♬ I'm A Survivor - Reba McEntire Why Labradors Are Wired To Protect

So why did this Labrador dog know just what to do with his baby sibling?

Though they aren't bred as guard dogs like German Shepherds, they are fiercely loyal and protective, as well as intelligent.

It helps that some of the Labrador breed's main traits are forming deep bonds with their human families, even with new additions like a baby.

They are also very alert canines, so if the baby was crying, this Lab would be aware of it and want to soothe and protect the child.

As highly intelligent animals, they are also very trainable and can learn commands such as "protect."

This Labrador Takes His Job With the Baby Very Seriously

As you can see, this Labrador takes his babysitting duties very seriously and does a great job.

But it can always be a little scary when you first bring home a baby to meet your dog.

However, there are certain things you can start doing before the baby comes home to make it easier for your pup, you, and your newborn to adjust to this new life.

First, you can let them become familiar with all the new things that will be in your house for the new baby, like the crib, bassinet, and stroller.

Once the baby is born, bring home a blanket or something that smells like the newborn so the dog gets used to the baby's smell.

Then, before long, your pup will be stepping up to the parenting plate just like this one.

Chatty Chihuahua Seems To Be Arguing With Something Only He Can See

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:55pm

Being a dog parent means there will be many times that you'll have to do your best to translate what your dog is barking into something you can understand. Some pups are chattier than others, and some hold full conversations, even if there isn't anyone they're actually talking to.

In this video, we meet a very chatty Chihuahua who appears to be arguing with great passion toward something that's not there, and acting like there's a whole scene unfolding that only he can see. It's hilarious, and so on-brand for something a Chihuahua would do. Take a look!

Shared on April 25 by TikTok user Stacy & Franklin (@stacychermol), the video shows her tiny, chatty Chihuahua, Franklin, reacting to something only he seemed to see or hear. In the clip, he's proving very quickly that big things come in small packages because he's very small, but his voice certainly travels.

What or who is he in an argument with? Well, your guess is as good as mine. At first, he appeared to be talking to his parent, who was behind the camera, before Franklin moved farther to the front door and started yelling at something above his head that only he could see. He only stopped temporarily when his mom shouted his name, then went right back to his argument with the unseen.

"He said what he said," and the thousands of people in the comments had a good time trying to guess what got him all wound up.

Another shared, "As a vet tech, you should be careful of this as it can signal some serious issues, resulting in you giving him whatever he wants because he’s the cutest boy I’ve ever seen."

Someone else added, "This was my life as a Chihuahua owner. I miss [those] days. RIP Eins!"

Other comments included, "Your flea is a tad dramatic," "I almost peed myself," "At least he didn't overreact," "The way he stopped and judged you," and "This house is A PRISON."

Why Some Dogs Bark at 'Nothing' According to Animal Behavior Experts

Franklin looks like he's just barking at something we either can't see or that isn't actually there. But according to experts, some dogs do bark at "nothing," and there's a reason.

According to the American Kennel Club, just because you can't see or hear anything doesn't mean there is nothing there. They explain that a dog's senses are far stronger than ours and "tuned to different things," which means they can "sense things outside your perception."

Going further, the organization explains that pups can hear higher pitches than humans can and have better eyesight in low light. Add in their incredible sense of smell, and chances are your dog isn't barking at "nothing," but probably just "nothing" that you can sense.

The American Kennel Club also says that if you can acknowledge what your dog is doing, even if you can't see, smell, or hear what they're reacting to, it can help ease their barking. Staying calm and saying "thank you" or "I know" can help them calm down.

So, Franklin might look like he's barking at nothing, but only he knows, really.

Darling British Shorthair Kitten Is an iPad Kid and It’s So Real

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:20pm

Some cats chase toys. Some cats stare out windows. And then there are the ones who fully commit to screen time, like they have a favorite show and a routine, and possibly opinions about what’s currently streaming. I'm basically this little kitten. Please be quiet, our stories are on.

This little British Shorthair kitten has clearly chosen her lane, and it involves a tablet, a cozy bed, and a very serious dedication to watching cartoons, as if it's her full-time job.

@veloce533

😘🐈#🐈

♬ オリジナル楽曲 - Veloce - Veloce

The adorable clip shared by @veloce533 shows the kitten sitting in front of an iPad with Tom and Jerry playing. The tablet is propped up perfectly, like someone knew this was about to become a whole situation.

As the characters move across the screen, she starts tapping at it, reaching out with tiny paws and trying to catch them like they might actually pop out into the room. It's the exact same energy as a kid completely locked into a show, just… furrier and arguably cuter.

Related: Adorable Orange Cat’s Reaction to NASA Launch Has Everyone Watching Twice

People in the comments immediately related. “Back in my day, they played with yarn,” one person joked, which feels like the official generational divide between classic cat behavior and whatever this is.

Another said, “Sometimes I wish my cat had TikTok and I could send TikToks to her like, look, this is you,” which is honestly such a real thought. And then there was, “My cats loooves Ice Age because of the squirrel, lol,” which suggests this might be more common than we think.

“Kids these days,” someone else added, which… fair.

And then the most accurate reaction: “Honestly… My heart just exploded watching this.” Because there's something about a tiny kitten being this invested in a cartoon that's just absurdly adorable.

Do Cats Like TV? @rosysgatitos

a little kitten that watches fish swim on tv🥹😭 it’s so wholesome #kittens #kittensoftiktok #kittentok #cutekitten #fypシ゚viral

♬ Mambo No. 5 - Pérez Prado

Yes, many cats actually enjoy watching TV, especially when it shows fast-moving animals like birds, fish, or small mammals. Their eyes are naturally drawn to movement, so anything that mimics prey can grab their attention quickly.

There are even YouTube channels specifically made for cats, featuring birds hopping around, squirrels running, and fish swimming across the screen. These videos can provide mental stimulation, especially for indoor cats who don't get to experience hunting in real life.

That said, not every kitty will care about screens. Some will be completely fascinated, while others will ignore it entirely. It often comes down to personality and how strong their prey drive is.

If your cat does enjoy watching, it can be a fun and harmless way to keep them entertained. Just maybe keep an eye on the screen… because as this kitten proves, they will absolutely try to catch what they see.

Magical Moth Looks Like Something You’d Find in a Candy Bowl

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:20pm

You think you know what a moth looks like. Neutral colors, a little dusty, minding its business near a porch light, daydreaming about snacking on your sweaters. And then something like this shows up, completely resetting your expectations.

Because this moth isn't subtle. It's bright yellow, soft pink, a little baby blue, and somehow looks like it belongs in a bowl of candy instead of outside existing like a real living thing.

The beautiful clip was posted on the TikTok account @ashholee31, and it shows the tiny moth up close while the caption asks, “Where are my moth experts at? Let me know the name of this little cutie.” Which feels fair, because you see something like this and immediately need answers.

People in the comments were completely mesmerized. “That’s the prettiest moth I’ve ever seen…” one person wrote, while another said, “Moths low-key be prettier than butterflies sometimes, omg,” which might actually be true in this case.

Someone else called it “a unicorn candy sparkle Trix yogurt moth,” which isn't scientific but does feel emotionally correct. Another added, “That is a Pokémon,” and honestly, yes. It really does look like something that should have a name and evolve into something even more dramatic.

“That’s a girlypop moth,” one commenter said, which somehow captures the exact vibe. Bright, delicate, and fully aware of it.

And then, “I love whimsical moths,” which is a phrase I didn't know I needed but now completely understand.

The moth in this video closely resembles a Rosy Maple Moth, one of the most colorful moths found in North America. They're known for their soft pink and yellow coloring, which helps them blend in with maple leaves and seed pods in their natural habitat.

Despite their bright appearance, they're harmless to humans and don't bite or sting. They spend most of their time resting during the day and are more active at night.

As caterpillars, they feed primarily on maple and oak trees, which is where they get their name. As adults, they don't eat much at all and focus mainly on reproduction.

Their soft, fuzzy bodies and pastel colors are what make them stand out so much compared to other moths, and they're often considered one of the most beautiful moth species.

Tiny Chihuahua Has a Perfect ‘Lion King’ Simba Moment During Car Ride

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:55pm

Whether they mean to or not, little dogs always look like teeny-tiny babies who might think they're tough, but are actually the definition of "cuteness overload." If you throw a fuzzy sweater on them and cradle them in the palm of your hand, they exceed the limits of cute and enter another realm entirely.

This all describes Franklin, one of the smallest and most legendary Chihuahuas to ever walk the earth. During a recent car ride, this tiny man channeled his inner Simba, and everyone is losing their minds over it!

@stacychermol

Anyone who's watched The Lion King remembers the king holding baby Simba up as he showed the masses his new lion cub, and Franklin trying to nap in this iconic pose hits all the right vibes. The adorable Chihuahua must be so tired from being one of the internet's superstars because he can barely keep his eyes open, even in the most uncomfortable pose ever!

Related: Tiny Chihuahua's Speedy Zoomies Rival Olympic Sprinters Everywhere

Normally, Franklin is a pretty clingy and demanding Velcro pup who prefers being held or glued to Mom's side over anything else. Even when she's inches away, the small boy gives her a piece of his mind. He's dramatic and loud and loves to complain, but he's just so precious, so I say he can do whatever he wants!

Look at this performance. It's award-worthy!

AND I’M A FOOT AWAY FROM HIM 😭💀 #clingydog #chihuahua #tinydog #funny #dogsoftiktok @Chewy

♬ original sound - Stacy&Franklin 🐶💅 Why Do Small Dogs Like To Be Held So Much?

As you can see, Franklin is beyond small, even by Chihuahua standards, so it makes sense that he'd rather be held than navigate the big, scary world alone. Aside from the safety aspect, small dogs get a much better view from up high, and it serves as another way to bond with their parents.

When they're so tiny, being held can ease anxiety, fear, and the overwhelming feeling, specifically in crowds or big environments where they'd otherwise be vulnerable around all the moving feet!

Conserving energy in the palm of Mom's hand is exactly what the doctor ordered for Franklin. A Simba moment in the car while dressed to the nines might be the very thing to keep Franklin on his best, less dramatic behavior!

A Dog Named ‘Internet Browser’ Just Won the Wackiest Pet Name of 2026, And It Only Gets Weirder From There

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:30pm

One of the best parts of having a pet is getting to name your furry little friend. And when it comes to picking the right one, there’s no shortage of inspiration to help you land on it. From personality traits and appearances to attitude and energy, the things that shape a pet’s name are often as unique as they are. Also just as good, however, is when you land on something completely out of left field that always gets a laugh.

If you’re looking for some inspiration of your own, or just want to see how your pet’s name stacks up to everyone else’s, Nationwide’s 2026 Wacky Pet Names campaign is a pretty great place to start. A quick look through this year’s nominees reveals names like Howl Capone, Bad Kitty 5000 and Brave Little Toaster as some of the silliest of the bunch. So whether you’re here for a good laugh or a fresh dose of name inspo, keep reading, these wacky picks are just getting started.

How the Contest Works View this post on Instagram

So how does the campaign work? Each year, the Nationwide pet insurance team recognizes the most bold and unforgettable names among its roster of newly enrolled pets. Submissions come in from all across the country, with fans casting votes to decide which names stand out as the most imaginative, unexpected and unforgettable. The top 10 wackiest dog, cat and exotic pet names were then put to a public vote that ran April 13-17, with more than 200,000 votes counted this year alone.

Beyond the names themselves, the campaign highlights the real families behind them and why they chose Nationwide insurance to protect their pets. It’s a fun look at the creativity of pet owners, and how their interests, passions and their pets’ personalities all come together to inspire the names in the first place.

Adding to the fun, the winning pets and their families celebrate their titles with a professional photo shoot alongside their pet, plus a gift card to create a custom pet portrait.

The Wackiest Pet Names of 2026 View this post on Instagram

There can only be one winner per category, and these are the names taking home the title of Wackiest Pet Name of 2026:

While we wouldn't dream of arguing with the results, one thing is certain: there are plenty of worthy nominees who could have easily taken home a medal. Names like Babyshark, Dinonugget, General Chaos and Mini Moose the Goose all bring an instant smile when you picture the dogs behind them. In the cat category, names like Catatoullie, Munchi McPurryToes and Statistically Significant are just as whimsical and fun. And the Exotic category doesn’t disappoint either, with Quillie Nelson, Penelopeanut and Auntie Tuna all just narrowly missing out on a top three spot.

Rare Brown Ragdoll Kitten Looks Like a Half-Baked Brownie

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:00pm

I have a soft spot in my heart for brown dogs, and an equal one for brown cats. Brown cats are pretty rare, which makes seeing one feel like a special treat! All breeds of brown cats are special, but when they're super fluffy, it just gets better.

There's one chocolate-brown Ragdoll kitten stealing hearts everywhere. He's easily one of the cutest kittens in the world, and his coat is truly giving "half-baked brownie" vibes on the best possible way:

Finn the Ragdoll is the cutest kitten ever. He was just a tiny baby in this video, which is a little bit of a throwback: he's about to turn a year old! He's still a kitten, but he's a lot bigger now. His mom is feeling sentimental, and for good reason. What a sweet little baby.

These days, he's very adventurous: he loves to have fun with his mom. He's an indoor cat, so they find a lot of things to do together from the safety of their home. Mostly, he loves lounging around in the sunshine!

Related: Ragdoll Cat With Rare ‘Split Splatter’ Coloring Looks Like a Shining Star

Now that he's grown up, his coat has filled out. It's a little lighter around his neck, though he's mostly retained that rich, half-baked brownie color his mom fell in love with when he was a baby:

A year feels like no time at all, but it can change so much! Finn is looking like a very dapper young man, and I bet he'll only get more handsome as he continues to grow.

Why Are Brown Ragdolls Rare?

Finn is such a beautiful cat that you'd think they'd be everywhere: how could someone not want a cat like this? Despite that, though, these cats are uncommon!

A fluffy Ragdoll is lying down.

Brown Ragdolls are part of a separate type of cat: the "Mink" Ragdoll. There is some debate about whether they actually qualify as Ragdolls, because unlike a traditional Ragdoll, these cats are typically:

  • Solid-colored.
  • Different shades, like grey, blue, or brown.
  • Different in eye color, with some having green, hazel, or even golden eyes.

Brown cats in general are hard to find: it's a recessive gene. If you can find one, snatch them up! They're so perfect!

This Cute Malamute’s Birthday Took an Unexpected Turn on the Ride Home

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:48pm

Alaskan malamutes are built for endurance. They were bred to haul heavy sleds over hundreds of miles in the Arctic, a heritage that usually leaves owners wondering if their dog will ever actually stop moving.

However, a recent Reddit post in r/aww featuring a tan malamute named Aslan proved that even the most majestic working dogs have a limit, especially when their fourth birthday celebration is involved.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Aslan looked like he had it all figured out...until the ride home. The tan Alaskan malamute had just spent his fourth birthday doing everything a dog could want. He had time outside, attention, movement and that steady sense of being exactly where he belongs. By the time he got into the car, though, something unexpected happened.

He tried to stay awake. He really did. But then, he failed slowly in the most relatable (and adorable) way possible.

It’s this gorgeous boy’s 4th birthday today 🥹 Seems like I tired him out with some birthday adventuring :)
by u/acocktailofmagnets in aww A Special Birthday Message

Aslan’s story was shared on Reddit along with a message from his parent that hit home for anyone who’s raised a dog from puppyhood.

They wrote in their post, "He has grown into such a handsome, confident, loving, loyal, silly, amazing little man. But I still remember him being a tiny little guy. I have loved you since your very first breath, and I will love you long past your last one."

If you’ve ever had a dog for years, you know that shift. One day, they’re clumsy and small and newly a part of your life. Then, suddenly, they’re a steady, familiar, part of your everyday routine, and you can't imagine your days without them.

Related: Alaskan Malamute ‘Picks up the Pace’ To Trot Home for Treat and It’s So Silly

The Moment That Made Everyone Smile

In the video, Aslan sits in the car, clearly exhausted. His eyes fight to stay open. His head dips slightly, then lifts again like he’s reminding himself to stay present.

It’s the kind of tired that only comes after a full, satisfying day.

People in the comments couldn’t get enough of it. One person wrote, "I didn’t think they were capable of being tired." Another joked about the difference between malamutes and huskies, saying malamutes actually have an off switch.

A Reminder Hidden in a Simple Moment

What makes Aslan’s clip stick isn’t just that it’s cute. It’s that it shows the result of something many dog owners aim for without always naming it.

A good day with enough activity and engagement. The kind of day that leaves your dog calm instead of restless.

One commenter put it simply: "What a beautiful birthday boy."

A day like Aslan’s doesn’t register as "turning four." It registers as something even simpler: time spent with his person, activity, attention and then rest.

That is what builds a happy dog.

Huge Savannah Cat Looks Like a Cute House Cheetah—Then His Maine Coon Brother Shows Up

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 11:00am

Some cats look like they came straight out of the jungle. They're the kind of cats you'd expect to see in a Disney movie or a nature documentary, not sitting on someone's cat tree!

For example, this Savannah cat. That's a small cheetah! There's just no way he's a cat... And then his Maine Coon brother shows up, and somehow, he looks like a kitten. This is wild:

@wildmane_mainecoons

To be fair they all look like they can ☠️ you #mainecoon #catsoftiktok #savannahcat #catlovers #bigcat

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoons

I don't know how the people at Wild Mane Maine Coons can sleep at night. Those cats all look like they could take down anyone if they wanted to! Of course, knowing Maine Coons, the worst they'd do is some attempted smothering with all of that fur.

This cattery shows off their amazing Maine Coons all the time, but this is one of the first times they've posted a Savannah. They look pretty similar length-wise, but the fur on the Maine Coons just makes them look so much larger!

Related: Rare Bengal-Maine Coon Mix Perched on His Cat Tree Could Be King of the Jungle

It doesn't look like he's part of the cattery in the "having litters" way; he's just a pet. That's awesome! Someone in the comments said he looks like an F1 Savannah, which would mean he's as close to wild as you could possibly get. That hasn't been confirmed, but when you look at how sassy he is, it really makes sense:

@wildmane_mainecoons

Chasing a Savannah cat is not for the weak #catsottiktok #cattok #savannahcat #funnycat #catlovers

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoons

Rambo has absolutely no regrets whenever he gets loose in the neighborhood. He really should be more careful: somebody might think a cheetah escaped from the zoo! If I saw him running at me, I know I'd be shaking in my boots!

Where Can You Get Savannah Cats?

Savannah cats are a crossbreed: half domestic housecat, half African Serval. Just like Bengals, who are a wild crossbreed, these cats are not for beginners, and they're incredibly expensive and hard to come by.

A Savannah cat sitting outside.

Image via Shutterstock / Gennadiy Naumov

When you're considering getting a Savannah cat, or any wild crossbreed, the most important thing to ensure is that you're getting them from an ethical source, which is exceedingly tough. These cats are very, very rare to find in shelters: you almost always have to go through a breeder to get one.

Unless you're experienced with owning wild crossbreeds and bigger cats, this breed is not something most experts would recommend. Other breeds, like the Bengal, can be comparatively easier to handle and are considered more "beginner" friendly, though they're not easy by any means! I bet Wild Mane Maine Coons knows that very well!

Prince William and Kate Middleton Officially Introduce New Cocker Spaniel, 'Otto'

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 10:35am

Prince William and Kate Middleton may be among the most high-profile members of the British royal family, but their latest announcement is a reminder that even royal households bond over the simple joy of adding a dog to the family.

Congratulations are in order for the couple, who recently welcomed a charming Cocker Spaniel named Otto. “Welcome to the family, Otto. 1 today,” they captioned a social media post, alongside a close-up photo of the pup with his ears blowing in the wind.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have long balanced accessibility with intrigue, and Otto’s arrival is another example of how even royal life includes familiar, everyday moments.

View this post on Instagram

Commenters quickly filled the post with reactions, affectionately dubbing the pup “Prince Otto” while celebrating his new life. “What a lucky dog 🐶 I’m sure he adores George, Louis, and Charlotte,” one person wrote.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's Dogs View this post on Instagram

Prince William and Kate Middleton may be parents to George, Louis, and Charlotte, but they are also devoted to their dogs, Otto and Orla. Both are Cocker Spaniels, with Otto coming from Orla’s litter—creating a royal family of Cocker Spaniels.

Orla was gifted to the couple in 2020 by Kate’s brother, James Middleton, after the loss of their previous Cocker Spaniel that same year. Their first dog was given to them as a wedding gift.

Otto’s introduction is more than just a heartwarming social media moment. When public figures share their pets, those animals often become cultural touchpoints. From White House pets to celebrity companions, famous dogs can influence adoption trends, spark renewed interest in specific breeds, and help humanize well-known figures.

And the Cocker Spaniel is a fitting breed to capture that attention. Known for being friendly and affectionate, Cocker Spaniels form strong bonds with their families, especially children. Their playful yet gentle nature makes them ideal for households of all kinds.

Cocker Spaniels are also highly adaptable, thriving in both busy and relaxed environments. Their social personalities and eagerness to connect make them a natural fit for family life.

The arrival of a royal dog offers a rare glimpse into the personal side of public figures, showing that even figures like Prince William and Kate Middleton share the same desire for connection, companionship, and everyday family moments.

Happy birthday, Otto.

Heartbreak As Animal Rescue Says Goodbye to Beloved 21-Year-Old Dachshund and Viral Social Media Favorite

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 10:10am

Sprout the Dachshund was 20 years old when he first arrived at Vintage Pet Rescue and became somewhat of an internet sensation with his adorable personality and gentlemanly charm. He turned 21 last month, and the rescue celebrated with a birthday bash and a legit ID card.

A recent social media post from the rescue shared that Sprout crossed the rainbow bridge and paid tribute to the sweet Doxie who easily won everyone over.

@vintagepetrescue

We are very sorry to share this news but Sprout passed away peacefully at home the other day. While we know this is sad, we really want to focus on the last 9 months of Sprout's life and celebrate it. Because that is truly the mission of Vintage Pet Rescue. When Sprout arrived to VPR in August of last year we thought we'd give him a few good weeks and then say goodbye. But Sprout had other plans. He seemed to get younger over time - gaining weight and muscle, sprouting new hair, and becoming more active. Sprout became VPR's ambassador and gained fans and followers all over the world. We hope he inspired some to adopt a senior dog. While in our care Sprout got to celebrate so much. He was in numerous viral reels, he was voted in as union president, he got his own merchandise, he got his own calendar, he celebrated his 21st birthday with all his friends, and he received Congressional recognition. Sprout's story was shared on We Rate Dogs, What's Going on RI and WPRI12. He made so many people happy during a difficult time. Incredible. And he did all of this while still enjoying second dinner. Thank you for loving Sprout with us and we hope he continues to bring you joy. We're thankful for 9 months of happy, adorable memories with Sprout. We hope his legacy continues to make people smile and shine a light on the joy of adopting senior pets. Thank you for loving him with us and celebrating his amazing life. We're sure going to miss him around here. Love you Sprouty boy🌱

♬ Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

The TikTok from @vintagepetrescue highlighted a montage of Sprout enjoying his days at the rescue. The video included clips of the darling Doxie covered in a blanket, walking in snow, and eating his birthday cake as just a few ways he lived life to the fullest.

Sprout arrived at the rescue in August after his longtime parent passed away. Despite his older age, Sprout surprised everyone by finding a new spring in his step in his new home.

"When Sprout arrived to VPR in August of last year we thought we'd give him a few good weeks and then say goodbye," the caption read. "But Sprout had other plans. He seemed to get younger over time — gaining weight and muscle, sprouting new hair, and becoming more active."

The rescue began posting pictures and videos of Sprout, and he immediately shot to social media stardom.

"Sprout became VPR's ambassador and gained fans and followers all over the world," the story continued. "He was in numerous viral reels, he was voted in as union president, he got his own merchandise, he got his own calendar, he celebrated his 21st birthday with all his friends, and he received Congressional recognition."

Vintage Pet Rescue Hopes Sprout Inspires Senior Pet Adoption

The post concluded with gratitude for the love Sprout received from followers and encouraged people to consider a senior pet when adding a member to their family.

"Thank you for loving Sprout with us, and we hope he continues to bring you joy," the caption shared. "We're thankful for 9 months of happy, adorable memories with Sprout. We hope his legacy continues to make people smile and shine a light on the joy of adopting senior pets. Thank you for loving him with us and celebrating his amazing life. We're sure going to miss him around here. Love you Sprouty boy."

Golden Retriever's Gentle Reaction to a Tiny Kitten Is Stealing Hearts

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:20am

Some dogs were made for the nanny life. You can tell immediately they'll be kind and gentle with everyone, from human babies to other pets, based on just one interaction. It's like they come into the world with an understanding of their purpose, and they can't wait to be a part of it.

Boojeaux, the Golden Retriever, is one of these special dogs, and there's no better example of how he proves his purpose than the way he interacts with a tiny Black kKitten named Kevin.

Baby Kevin couldn't be any cuter, and it seems as though Boojeaux understood the assignment from day 1. The curious but careful "nanny dog" seems to be aware of the size difference, so he tiptoes around the kitty to avoid stepping on him. Clearly, these two were made for each other!

The very good boy isn't only gentle with kittens, but just about everyone and everything he comes into contact with. As Golden Retrievers do, Boojeaux takes great pride in how careful he is with baby chicks, beloved stuffies, and everything in between.

Honestly, I think this pup is the pinnacle of what dogs embody. He's loving, patient, and just a big softie when it comes to all walks of life. We don't deserve dogs, and this angel is exactly why!

No matter the breed, dogs have some things in their DNA that make them instinctively gentle, loving, and able to read emotional cues from us and other pets. This is all thanks to a special blend of evolutionary survival, social intelligence, and genetic predispositions that allow them to read cues.

With that, dogs learn through companionship with us, reinforcing strong bonds. Growing up in a house with children and other pets only adds to their vulnerability, strengthening their careful, watchful eyes.

Being a Golden Retriever, Boojeaux has so many green flags, it makes sense he'd be so sweet with baby Kevin, birds, stuffies—everything in his path! They're all so lucky to have him in their lives to look after them. We can't wait to see who Boojeaux chooses to love on next!
