‘Cheddar Bear’ British Longhair Cat Is the Most Playful Companion

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 10:00am

Orange cats are just built different, but they're also not all created equal. While they're all entertaining... Some of them are just downright majestic. Fluffier cats of this variety look like the cutest little cheeseballs you'll ever see in your life!

Recently, one "cheddar bear" colored British Longhair checked every box. She's beautiful, she has big eyes, and most importantly, she's as orange as could be. That's pretty rare for a female! You just have to see her:

@cheddarbearsb

beautiful Clementine 😍💕 #britishlonghair #cutecat #pet #fyp #kittensoftiktok

♬ original sound - British kittens for adoption

Clementine the British Longhair is so cute. She's living in a cattery that specializes in British Long and Shorthair cats, and apparently, she's a mama there! She's had a litter, and they must be some of the best kittens in the whole place! According to the cattery, she's:

  • Chill.
  • Caring and affectionate.
  • Easy to please.

Two of those three things are exceedingly hard to come by in an orange cat, as anyone who's ever had one would know. These cats are notorious for being very affectionate, but having absolutely no chill whatsoever!

The cats in this cattery are, for the most part, no exception. They're all a little wild, too, including Clementine's kittens. Those sweet babies would do anything for some love, which is part of the Orange Cat Philosophy:

That kitten is the spitting image of his mama! I'll take 14 of them right now, please. His eyes are basically bigger than his head!

What Are British Longhair Cats Like?

If this video also made you want a British Longhair more than you've wanted anything in a long time, I'm right there with you. How precious! If I'm going to get one, I want one just like Clementine.

British Longhairs are the perfect middle ground for someone who's looking for a cat they'd like to be able to go on low-impact adventures with, but also one that won't mind a good nap. These cats are well-known for being:

  • Very cute.
  • Clean.
  • Highly trainable.
  • Open-minded.
  • Independent

They don't only come in this lovely cheddar-bear orange, either. You can find them in all sorts of different colors, both from breeders and often in shelters. Before you settle on one, make sure you explore all of your options!

Meet the Rare Dog Breed That’s Cute, Loyal, and Surprisingly Underrated

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 9:20am

There are many reasons a particular dog breed becomes popular with families, and often it's due to their appearance, temperament, or the skills they're known for.

But sometimes we come across a rare dog breed that has all those much-loved qualities and more, yet we still don't hear much about them. Like in this video, we meet a rare dog breed that's loyal, smart, and loving, but still surprisingly underrated. Come meet the Finnish Lapphund! Take a look at this beauty!

@adventuringbears

and they make the best pets! Finnish Lapphunds are not well known in the US, but they should be. not only are they cuties, but they’re loyal, active, and make great family dogs #finnishlapphund #rarebreeds

♬ A sprinkle of happiness - asa palette cafe

On April 20, TikTok user Grizz the Finnish Lapphund (@adventuringbears) introduced us to this rare dog breed that has everything that makes dogs cute. He's fluffy with his thick tricolored coat and friendly, as we can see in the smile on his face and that happy tongue. He's also a true charmer. This pup doesn't have to do much in this clip for everyone to fall madly in love and feel his kind temperament through the screen.

As the video's caption says and the video itself states, this breed is unique and not one we see too often. And if you've ever met one, "They make the best pets," his mom explains.

In the comments, people fell in love with Grizzly Bear so quickly, and they only had sweet things to say about him and the Finnish Lapphund.

One person wrote, “Neighbors have one... He barks at everything and anyone. I've named him Barkley."

Another shared, “My sister has one, and he is currently one of the biggest ones here in Finland."

Someone else added, “I think here in Finland, it's not so rare."

Other comments include, "One of my dream dogs," "Grew up with one, they are the best," "Looks like Grimm," and "Not so rare here in Finland."

What To Know About the Finnish Lapphund’s Temperament, Care Needs, and History

Grizzly Bear, the Finnish Lapphund, is such a cutie, and he's definitely a dog breed we don't hear about too often. But when you look at their temperament along with how adorable they are, you'll come to understand that these are such fun pets to add to the family.

According to the American Kennel Club, Finnish Lapphunds are described as being "alert, agile, and friendly," and since they're part of the herding group, they're not afraid to put in some hard work.

The experts at the club explain that the Finnish Lapphund is a "remarkably empathetic breed" and is considered "among the friendliest of dogs" after they learn that you're not something they're supposed to herd. They enjoy being around the people they love and other pets, too. These pups are "friendly and submissive companions," but they're afraid of strangers and have a big startle reflex, which is important to know. The club says they "crave companionship," and when they don't have that, they can get really unhappy and lose their spark.

Since Grizzly Bear has the cutest, friendliest smile in this clip and on social media, we're sure he's doing great work promoting more families to adopt this unique breed.

Stunning Bengal Cat’s Huge Baby Eyes Could Draw Anyone In

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 9:00am

What is it with kittens and having the most beautiful eyes ever? They're still beautiful when they're adults, too, but there's just something so special about a kitten's eyes. They're almost always too big for their little faces, and it's just perfect.

For one Bengal cat, his eyes are one of his mom's favorite things about him. The second he looked into the camera, everyone lost it. He couldn't get more handsome if he tried:

@phoebeandthecrew

Such a pretty boy 😍🥺🐾 #catsoftiktok #bengal #kittensoftiktok #cat #cats

♬ my love mine all mine sped up - ✰

Phoebe and the Crew are all a very pretty bunch, but Loki is special. Bengal kittens are wonderful: they go from being the sweetest, kindest, snuggliest kittens in the world to being actual demons. They remind you of their wild ancestry when you least expect it. In this video, Loki is sitting very nicely.

He has several cat siblings as well as three human sisters, and he most likely gets on all of their nerves. It's not his fault! Bengal cats need a ton of enrichment since they're incredibly high-energy, and even the best home will have moments where the cat's intrusive thoughts win.

Related: Rare Bengal-Maine Coon Mix Perched on His Cat Tree Could Be King of the Jungle

He's growing up very nicely, and even though he can be a lot sometimes, he's still a very respectful boy. He knows better than to cross his sisters, even when one of them is pinning him down for bathtime:

@phoebeandthecrew

♬ original sound - xavier

His eyes look very nice there, even though he's looking off into the distance looking like he's praying for divine intervention. It had to be done, Loki!

Do Bengal Cats Have Better Vision?

Cat eyes are so beautiful, but as everyone knows, cats also have amazing vision. They're farsighted, with experts estimating that their vision is about 20/100. In the daytime, they have a wider field of vision, but it's not necessarily that much better than a human's. At night, however, cats can see much better!

A Bengal kitten with their leg in the air.

Bengal cats don't have better vision than other cats: their vision is pretty much on par. However, there are some circumstances where a Bengal's eyes might actually be worse than those of other cats, like:

  • Unethical breeding, which is very common for Bengals, results in deformities.
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which Bengals are prone to.

Before you get a big-baby-eyed Bengal cat, always make sure you've done your research into both the breed and the breeder. Luckily, Loki is a happy, healthy cat in a happy, healthy home!

Dachshund Who's Clearly 'Part Otter' Is Winning Hearts Everywhere

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 8:55am

The video opens like a nature documentary.

Underwater, you see the back of an otter gliding along, smooth and streamlined, fully in its element. Then comes the reveal: The next swimmer is not an otter at all, but Nashy, a Dachshund in a pool, moving with such suspiciously otter-like energy that the comparison stops being a joke and starts feeling like a legitimate identity question.

@nashthedachs3

What do you think? 🦦 🐾 #swimming #dachshund #dachshundsoftiktok #otters #funny

♬ som original - Flamengo até Morrer

The caption on the video says, “I think my Dachshund is part otter.” The post follows with, “What do you think? 🦦 🐾” My professional opinion is that the case is strong. Nashy isn't merely paddling around. He is committed to the bit. He looks sleek, delighted, and weirdly aerodynamic in a way that should frankly be studied.

That's what makes the clip so good. It's not just a dog swimming, which would already be cute. It's the side-by-side visual logic of it all. First, the otter. Then, the Dachshund. Same general vibe, same water confidence, same “I was born for this” energy. It lands instantly, and once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

Also, Dachshunds are already one of the funniest dog shapes available to us. They are all length, determination, and big feelings. So when one starts moving through water like a tiny aquatic mammal with a mortgage and a purpose, the whole thing becomes comedy gold. Nashy doesn't look awkward or uncertain. He looks as if this is where he has always belonged.

That's probably why the video performs so well. It has an immediate hook, a strong visual payoff, and the kind of comparison people want to send to friends with no explanation except maybe, “Please tell me this is also an otter.” It's simple, adorable, and just weird enough to feel irresistible.

And there is something extra charming about the confidence. Dachshunds are not built for distance running, leaping, or strenuous swimming, but otherwise they are game for almost anything. Nashy seems to have heard that and decided to make the word “strenuous” everyone else’s problem.

So yes, maybe he is technically a Dachshund.

But spiritually?

This is an otter in a low-riding dog suit.

Why Some Dachshunds Love Water Anyway

Dachshunds are not usually thought of as classic water dogs, and the AKC specifically notes they aren't built for strenuous swimming. But dogs are individuals, and some absolutely love the water anyway, especially when they're introduced safely, enjoy the sensation, and build confidence over time. The AKC also notes that many pups benefit from water play and swimming when it matches their comfort and physical ability.

That means a dog like Nashy is not “wrong” for loving the pool; he is just operating in his own weird little lane. The important things are supervision, short sessions, and making sure the dog is actually enjoying it rather than being pushed into it.

Somewhere, an otter saw this clip and thought, finally, one of us.

Bernese Mountain Dog Puppy Insists Dad Drag Him Like a Very Furry Swiffer Mop

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 8:20am

There are dogs who love a beach walk. Ears in the wind, paws in the sand, living their best life. And then there are dogs who decide walking is optional and being gently dragged like a very large, very happy mop is actually the better plan.

Loki, the Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, has very clearly made his choice, and he's not backing down.

@jsmithshields

Bloody hell man

♬ original sound - jese smith

The adorable clip from @jsmithshields on TikTok shows Loki completely sprawled out on the wet sand while his dad tries to encourage him to get up. Instead, Loki just… stays. Fully committed. Legs out, body relaxed, tail wagging like this is exactly what he wanted all along.

Related: Retriever Dad Says 'Walk' 10 Times—Dog Becomes a Literal Kangaroo

As his dad drags him along the shoreline, laughing and telling him to get up, Loki seems completely unbothered. If anything, he looks thrilled. One commenter said, “I love how he’s still happy and his tail is wagging,” and that really sums it up. This isn't a protest. This is a lifestyle.

Another person called him “a land shark,” while someone else joked, “Another day, another seal impression from Loki,” which honestly feels accurate given the way he just glides across the sand like he was built for it.

“He’s swimming, don’t rush him,” one comment read, and that might be the best interpretation of all. Because in Loki’s mind, he's not refusing to walk. He's doing something much more important.

Someone else pointed out, “Imagine other people’s point of view walking along the beach,” which is such a funny image. Just a man casually dragging a giant fluffy puppy who looks completely delighted about it.

And then there was, “You just know he got home, got zoomies and shook sand everywhere,” which feels less like a guess and more like a guarantee.

I can't stop thinking about how this feels like the dog version of a belly rub. Just full body contact with the ground, maximum comfort, zero effort. Loki has figured something out here.

How To Encourage a Dog To Walk on a Leash @barkologydogtraining

Loose leash walking starts indoors without a leash before you ever head outside. If your dog is pulling on walks, the foundation is missing. This step by step tutorial shows you how to build engagement, reinforce being close to you, and teach your dog where you want them to be in a low distraction environment first. Once that’s consistent indoors, you can layer the leash in and then gradually take those skills outside. Save this for your next training session and follow for more puppy training and dog training tips. #looseleashwalking #dogtrainingtips #puppytraining #dogtrainer #leashtraining

♬ original sound - Barkology Dog Training

If your pup is more like Loki and less interested in actually walking, there are a few ways to make leash time a little more successful.

Start with positive reinforcement. Bringing treats or a favorite toy can help motivate your dog to move forward and associate walking with something enjoyable. Reward even small progress, especially in the beginning.

Keep walks short and low-pressure at first. Some dogs, especially younger ones, can feel overwhelmed in new environments. Letting them explore at their own pace can help build confidence.

Make sure your pet is comfortable with their harness or collar. If something feels off or restrictive, they may resist walking altogether.

And finally, try to keep the experience fun. Encouragement, a happy tone, and a little patience go a long way. Not every dog will be a natural walker right away, but with time, most will get there… even if they occasionally prefer to be a very furry mop.

Mini Schnauzer With Rare ‘Split Face’ Coloring Looks Like the Moon Phases

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 8:00am

As a dog lover, it's genuinely almost impossible to find a dog I don't like. I think they're all so wholesome and beautiful, even though a Boxer did indeed knock me over and bite my leg when I was 7. I hesitate around them these days, but I love them even still.

There are some dogs who are a little more special than others, though. They just can't be topped! For example, this Mini Schnauzer whose amazing "split-face" coloring has him looking almost exactly like one of the phases of the moon:

@actinglikebrandi

Please go back to this size 🥲 #fyp #minischnauzer #puppylove #pet #dogs

♬ original sound - 🗿

Brandi's adorable Mini Schnauzer's name is Brad, but if I had named him, I would've gone with Gibby. Short for Waning Gibbous.

Related: Giant Schnauzers Turn Into ‘Giant Stooges’ Trying to Reach Their Ball

Brad is all grown up now, but he's been in his forever home since he was just a baby. His coloring has always been awesome, but as he's gotten older, it's become a lot more defined. These days, you can really see the difference in the sides! This is something we see a lot in cats, but in dogs? What a treat!

Brad may still look like a baby, but that's only because he's a Miniature Schnauzer. They look like puppies for their whole lives! This breed is certainly not rare; you can find them everywhere, and in lots of colors and sizes. But to find one as beautiful as Brad... Good luck!

@actinglikebrandi

Those zoomies are so awesome. Mini Schnauzers might be small, but they have a ton of energy! They're best with a caretaker who has plenty of time to play with them and get their energy out. If you're looking for a couch potato, they're not the breed for you.

Luckily, Brad gets everything he wants. With such a pretty coat, how could he not? It's impossible to say no to a dog who's basically one in a million.

What Makes Brad So Beautiful?

Mini Schnauzers come in all sorts of colors. There are some more common than others, like black and grey. By all accounts, Brad is technically a "common" color... So why is he so pretty?

A Miniature Schnauzer lying down.

There are a few things that could be the culprit when it comes to Brad's beauty, including:

  • Chimerism (which would explain the split face, but is extremely rare and can't be confirmed without genetic testing).
  • Mosaicism (which occurs in Merle dogs, though it's not confirmed that Brad is Merle).
  • Luck.

Though his mom has posted quite a few videos of him on her page, she hasn't given us any of the details about him. That's fine! I'll just choose to believe he's so beautiful because a fairy kissed him or something!

This Expensive Dog Breed Looks Like a Runway Model Wrapped in a Cloud

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 7:55am

Of all the rare dog breeds in the world, each has their own special sauce that makes them stand out from the rest. Rare dogs bred from champion bloodlines to compete in all the shows come at a pretty high cost.

One of which is an Afghan Hound named Georgie, and he has the most glorious hair I've ever seen (and could never grow myself)! It's like he's wrapped up in a fluffy cloud, and this stunning boy is breaking hearts everywhere because of it!

@breezieandgeorgie

sometimes I look at him and think there’s no way he’s real and then he eats a shoe #afghanhound #dog #model #fashion #chic

♬ original sound - Cynthia 🌸 @heycynthialee

The 1.5-year-old Afghan Hound is, as Mom describes, "Goofy, very naughty, absolutely beautiful… and very aware of it," which pretty much sums up this pup! Being so young, Georgie likes having fun no matter where he is or what's going on, and he looks good doing it.

If we go by looks alone, he's got the job—every job, anywhere he wants—because all that silky, envy-worthy hair really does look like he's wrapped in a cloud. It's totally model-status deserving of every runway, forever—we are not worthy!

Related: Rare Mammoth-Sized Dog Who's Worth Thousands Looks Like the Cowardly Lion

As if Georgie isn't majestic enough, watching him skip around his property gives it that little extra oomph to get the heart pumping. I can honestly say I've never looked this good jogging, but Georgie makes it look easy, breezy, and beautiful like a regular Cover Girl!

View this post on Instagram Why Are Afghan Hounds So Expensive?

You can tell by looking at an Afghan Hound that they have the most luxurious locks around. These stunning dogs are a rarity in many regions, costing anywhere between $2,000 and $7,000 from a reputable breeder.

The cost is higher than most because many of these pups are bred from champion bloodlines specifically for show, which means they need more intensive care and maintenance when it comes to health.

When adopting one of these Hound dogs, consider all the money it takes for health testing for thyroid, hips, and eyes, as well as the high cost of having those luscious locks groomed from a pro (to prevent matting). Likewise, they need a high-protein diet and plenty of exercise to ensure their coats stay shiny and healthy. They're like actual human models!

Georgie's got it all going on, and I'm jealous of all that bouncy, beautiful hair, fit for a runway!

Street Dog in Pain From Matted Fur Gets a Shave and Looks Like a New Pup

Mon, 05/04/2026 - 7:10am

Dogs living on the street encounter numerous issues including food scarcity, severe injuries, bullying from other dogs, and untreated illness. Niall Harbison has seen every kind of affliction through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. His tireless work saving and rehabilitating street dogs includes everything from daily feedings to extensive medical care.

Harbison recently discovered a dog with a very shaggy coat that caused major health problems, so he sprang into action to relieve the pooch's discomfort.

View this post on Instagram

In the Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo, Harbison shared Fluffy's story. The precious pup's coat was extremely matted, causing her further suffering in the extreme Thai heat.

"We knew we needed to help her quickly," the onscreen text explained as Harbison tried to calm Fluffy on a leash. Her thick and unruly fur made her a breeding ground for parasites. "She was covered in thousands of fleas."

Once Fluffy was brought to the Happy Doggo sanctuary, Harbison and his team shaved off all of her fur to give her relief and remove the fleas that were tormenting her skin.

"We got her cleaned up and treated," the story continued as they gently bathed and dried Fluffy after her extreme haircut.

Fluffy's New 'Do Worked Wonders

The canine cutie was given some much-needed rest while at the Happy Doggo sanctuary, along with plenty of love and affection. She looked like a different dog after her makeshift salon day and had a spring back in her step.

"She’s back now and looking and feeling much more comfortable," the caption revealed as Fluffy explored the grass outside.

It was easy to see the relief Fluffy felt after having all those mats and fleas removed — and she looked gorgeous with her new 'do!

Historical Donkey Names

Historic literature (and some supposedly "true" historical accounts) can be a great source of inspiration for amusing, unique names. Try these on for size:

Nick Bottom– This character from the William Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream famously has his head (temporarily) turned into that of a donkey's by the mischevious fairy Puck. It's an obvious choice for any donkey-owning Shakespeare fan!

Don Quixote– Miguel de Cervantes' iconic windmill-tilting knight may not have ridden on a donkey (unlike his sidekick Sancho Panza), but say his name out loud, and you'll get why he's on this list. A literary reference and a donkey pun? We love a twofer.

Eeyore– Winnie the Pooh's lachrymose buddy may not have been the biggest ray of sunshine in the 100-Acre Wood, but the character (and his adorably punny name) stole our hearts just the same.

Puzzle– The character Puzzle appears in CS Lewis' final Chronicles of Narnia book, The Last Battle, as a well-meaning but easily-misled talking donkey. Though he's initially tricked into helping the antagonists, his better side wins out, and he redeems himself with the good guys in the end.

Chrysippus– This donkey name's a deep cut, but bear with us. Legend has it that the Greek philosopher Chrysippus of Soli caught his donkey chowing down on his figs. Tickled by the sight, Chrysippus quipped that someone should give the donkey some fancy wine to wash down those figs, a joke that apparently amused him so much, he died from a fit of laughter.

Movie-Inspired Donkey Names

Why stop at historical fiction? Let's see if we can't pull some inspiration from some screen legends with these movie-inspired donkey names.

Donkey– Is naming your donkey "Donkey" a little on the nose? Maybe. But if it was a good enough name for Eddie Murphy's quippy character in Shrek, it's good enough for you. Bonus points if you use a Scottish accent every time you say it.

Donkey Kong– Technically, DK's a video game icon first and foremost, but after being brought to life (well, CGI) by Seth Rogen in Illumination's Super Mario Bros. Movie. If we want to go back further, Donkey Kong made his TV debut even earlier with the Donkey Kong Country cartoon series in the mid-1990s. Talk about a triple threat!

Nestor– Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey might not be as big of a Rankin-Bass icon as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or Frosty the Snowman, but he's still a star in a holiday movie rotation every December.

Braveheart–Huh? Get it? Bray-veheart? Get it now? Man... everyone's a critic.

Funny Donkey Names

Alright, no more high-brow historical allusions and mainstream pop culture references. You're here for funny donkey names, so let's just do a rapid-fire round with some pun-tastic pet donkey names!

Willy Donka– A whimsical, chocolate-loving donkey with a big imagination and an even bigger heart. Often found daydreaming in sunlit fields, he’s known for turning ordinary moments into sweet little adventures.

Tiny Prancer– A small but spirited donkey with big main-character energy. Known for quick little trots that look suspiciously like dancing.

Badonkadonk– A bold, confident donkey with a famously sturdy backside and an even bigger personality. Known for a dramatic walk and unmistakable presence, it turns every pasture stroll into a full-on performance

Hay-ley– A sweet, easygoing donkey with a love for the simple things in life, especially fresh hay and sunny naps. Calm, friendly, and always gently curious, it brings a soft, cozy energy to any pasture.

Daisy Donk– A cheerful, flower-loving donkey with a gentle spirit and sunny outlook on life. Often found lingering near wildflowers and soft grass, it brings a bright, calming presence wherever it goes.

DavidHoff– A laid-back donkey with impeccable timing and a talent for hoof-tapping along to any rhythm. Known for casually stepping into the spotlight like it’s no big deal, it brings a playful “comedy legend” energy to every pasture stroll.

Donkey Food Names

Just to top it all off, let's check the kitchen for a final bit of inspiration. After all, cute animals and food-related names go together like peanut butter and jelly, like macaroni and cheese, like... well, you get the idea.

Burrito– Burrito literally means "little donkey" in Spanish, and it's also the name of a beloved Mexican culinary classic. What's not to love?

Snack Pack– From pack animal to snack animal.

Hash Brown– Why do potato-based foods always make for the best pet names? You're missing the perfect opportunity if you have a golden-brown burro and you don't name it "Hash Brown."

Peanut Brittle–OK, maybe we exaggerated a little on that last one. Peanut Brittle would also be a perfect name for a light brown donkey (especially one with a bit of a "nutty" personality).

Jujube– Jujube fruits (and the candy Jujubes) are as sweet as can be – a befitting name for an animal with a naturally sweet disposition!

Giving Your Donkey the Perfect Name

Obviously, these suggestions are a mere handful out of millions of possibilities, but we hope they at least got your creative juices flowing. Inspiration is everywhere, from the annals of history and great works of literature to well, whatever's on your grocery list. The important thing is to try to pick a name that you think suits your donkey's individual personality and appearance the best. Whether you pick something simple and sweet or go for something quirky and punny, as long as you feel it's a good fit for your donkey's unique style, it's hard to go wrong!

Dog Lovers Show Up for Unusual NYC Contest That Celebrates Bad Breath

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 9:23pm

A uniquely clever pet event took place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, inviting dog lovers to celebrate rather than hide their dog’s bad breath. Pup Gum hosted the “Worst Dog Breath” competition, an event centered around the idea that even the strongest doggy bad breath could have a silver lining.

Held in New York City’s Washington Square Park, the playful “Worst Dog Breath” competition encouraged participants to bring their dogs and let judges determine which canine’s breath was the most powerful.

A Lighthearted Take on Pet Wellness View this post on Instagram

Not your typical pet contest focused on looks or tricks, the contest leans into humor and community engagement by turning a common pet issue into a shared experience meant to be celebrated. In this competition, dogs with the strongest breath are not just tolerated, they’re celebrated.

Winners received Pup Gum products, while attendees were given samples and the opportunity to participate in pet-friendly activities designed to promote better oral care and hygiene in pets.

Bad breath in dogs is often linked to poor dental hygiene, diet, or bacteria buildup. It is one of the most common concerns for pet lovers, and cheeky events like the “Worst Dog Breath” competition spotlight the issue in a fun way, taking the shame and embarrassment out of it and showing just how widespread it is.

By reframing the issue of dog breath into a humorous event, pet lovers are encouraged to learn more about pet wellness and health education for dogs, which is particularly appealing to modern pet households.

The Pup Gum competition helps raise awareness about oral hygiene for dogs in a fun and relatable way that allows people to learn more about the issue without stigma attached.

This Crow at Cincinnati Zoo Sorts Colors Like a Pro -- And It’s Incredible to Watch

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 8:44pm

If you’ve ever thought the term “bird brain” was an insult used to imply a lack of smarts, a crow named Tippi at the Cincinnati Zoo is debunking that idea—and it’s unbelievable to watch. Using its beak as a tool, this crow is able to sort by color with expert precision, a reminder of why crows are some of the smartest birds in the animal kingdom.

In a video shared on social media by the Cincinnati Zoo, Tippi the crow can be seen standing in front of three distinctly colored bowls—blue, yellow, and pink. Using its beak as a grabbing tool, Tippi then picks up matching colored shapes and places them into the corresponding bowls.

@cincinnatizoo

Tippi the crow shows off her intellegence while sorting colors. She even corrects a mistake! Did you know crows are some of the smartest birds on the planet? As members of the corvid family, crows share a level of intelligence that rivals great apes in some tasks. They can solve complex problems, use tools, recognize human faces, and even remember them for years!

♬ original sound - Cincinnati Zoo - Cincinnati Zoo

The crow sorts the colors with expert precision, never mistaking one color for another.

In fact, in one instance, Tippi places a pink shape inside the yellow container, only to walk away and immediately return to correct the mistake. It’s a remarkable example of how intelligent crows are, with abilities that rival those of great apes, according to the zoo’s experts.

Why Crows Are Considered One of the Smartest Birds @aruikey0

The Cincinnati Zoo’s experts explain this impressive bird sorting behavior, writing, “As members of the corvid family, crows share a level of intelligence that rivals great apes in some tasks. They can solve complex problems, use tools, recognize human faces, and even remember them for years!”

Crows are members of the corvid family, which also includes ravens and magpies. In addition to their remarkable memory, crows demonstrate problem-solving skills and adaptability that rival some primates.

The way Tippi sorts colors is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to measuring crow intelligence. This bird’s ability to solve complex problems is truly remarkable. Crows have been observed using tools in the wild, such as sticks or leaves, to extract insects from tight spaces.

In laboratory settings, crows have been observed completing multi-step puzzles that require planning, not just trial and error. Experiments have also shown that crows can bend wires into hooks to retrieve food, suggesting they not only solve problems but also understand cause and effect in a way that goes beyond simple instinct.

Crows also have exceptional memory, particularly when it comes to recognizing humans. These birds can remember specific faces and distinguish between people who pose a threat and those who do not.

Some studies have even shown that if a crow has a negative encounter with a human, it may alert other crows in the area, essentially teaching its flock to avoid that individual. This kind of social learning is rare in the animal kingdom.

So what does it all mean? Simply put, crows can engage in highly complex social behavior, use tools, create tools to search for food, and rely on strong memory and adaptability across different environments. Crows may be labeled “bird brain,” but their intelligence is anything but simple.

Well done, Tippi.

Mom’s Black Leggings Show the Reality of Living With a Golden Retriever

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 8:20pm

There are two kinds of people in this world: people who wear black freely… and people who live with a Golden Retriever.

Because once you do, black clothing stops being a choice and starts being a very bold statement.

@echogoldenbear

Shared by @echogoldenbear, the moment feels painfully familiar to pet parents everywhere. In the clip, an adorable Golden Retriever named Echo stands proudly next to his mom, whose black leggings are completely covered in light-colored fur.

The caption says it all: “When you have a Golden Retriever and decide to wear black.”

And honestly, that’s the whole story.

Related: Golden Retriever Discovers She Can Blow Bubbles and Can’t Stop

Viewers immediately understood the assignment and had thoughts:

• “Golden glitter”
• “Too much floof”

That phrase alone might be the most accurate rebrand of dog hair ever. Because technically it’s fur… but emotionally it’s everywhere.

Golden Retrievers are known for their thick double coats, which means shedding is basically a full-time hobby. Pair that with black leggings, and you’ve created the highest possible contrast situation.

It’s not a mistake. It’s a lifestyle.

I have three cats, plus two of them shed like crazy, including my giant Maine Coon, and I still somehow forget and wear black like I’m not about to become a lint roller ad. We actually vacuum our Orange Cat sometimes to help with shedding, which sounds fake but is very real.

How To Deal With Pet Fur

Living with pets doesn’t mean giving up your wardrobe… but it does mean getting a little strategic.

• Keep lint rollers everywhere, like in your car, your bag, and every room you exist in.
• Choose fabrics that don’t cling to fur as much, since some materials attract it instantly.
Brush your pet regularly to reduce loose hair before it ends up on your clothes.
• Use washable slipcovers or throws on furniture where your pet likes to sit.
• Vacuum frequently, especially all high-traffic pet areas.
• Try grooming tools or deshedding brushes designed for thick coats, like Golden Retrievers
• If your pet tolerates it, gentle vacuum grooming tools can help remove excess fur

At the end of the day, though, the fur is part of the deal.

And if we’re being honest, a little Golden glitter is a pretty fair trade.

This Siberian Cat's Rare Blue Eyes Are Impossible To Look Away From

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 7:20pm

There's something about blue eyes on any creature, animal, or human that captures the attention.

And this Siberian cat named Don Dexter Jamon Serrano with blue eyes is no exception.

He looks like something out of a painting.

Those icy-blue eyes don't even look real in this one viral cat video.

@dexter.thesiberian

♬ original sound - 🗿

And then to see the beautiful cat with those same eyes as a kitten is truly so amazing.

Why Blue Eyes in Cats Are So Rare

This mesmerizing cat video highlights just how rare blue eyes are in kitties.

The science behind these stunning, unusual blue eyes is a rare genetic combination that impacts the color and structure of the cat's irises.

We're not actually seeing blue pigment in the eye, but rather the light scattering off the iris producing the appearance of blue.

This is referred to as heterochromia in genetics and means one or both eyes have more than one color.

Both humans and animals can have heterochromia (actress Kate Bosworth has this beautiful condition).

When cats have blue eyes, it's because the irises lack melanin, allowing light to scatter and produce that striking blue appearance.

With rare blue eyes, the kitty has inherited two copies of the recessive gene from both parents that codes for this iris trait, lacking melanin.

For a little bit more science information, it's the OCA2 gene, which produces the pigment eumelanin, and variations in this gene, or rather the lack of it, resulting in blue eyes in cats.

Other genes that play an important role in feline eye color include the SLC24A4 and IRF4 genes.

What Makes Blue Eyes in Cats So Striking

Obviously, the science behind it is what makes blue eyes in kitties so rare and amazing, but it's also just a miracle of nature.

Certain breeds are known to carry these genes more, such as Siamese cats, the Balinese breed, and Ragdoll cats.

Dexter is so special for having these beautiful eyes!

Plush Dachshund's Colossal Marshmallow Mitts Look Like Polar Bear Paws

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 6:20pm

There are a few different variations of the standard Dachshund, but many haven't heard of the most Pixar-looking version. Aside from their "sausage-shaped frames," these dogs don't resemble their relatives in the traditional sense. Instead, they take on a more cartoonish, animated, and plush appearance, like a stuffie.

Charlie, a Wirehaired Dachshund, is one of these way-too-cute pups, but you wouldn't think his paws are big enough to brag about—that is, until he raises his arms up and reveals what's actually going on down there! You have to see these polar bear mitts to understand just how impressive this is for anyone in the Dachshund fam!

@topsaildachshunds

♬ original sound - TopsailDachshunds

I've been a Charlie fan from the day he joined his family, and I can honestly say he's only gotten more adorable by the day. Between his marshmallow mitts, his long, silky fur, and the kind of face that doesn't look real, this is one rare, Doodle-like Dachshund you'll think about long after this post!

Related: Story of Dachshund Puppy Born With Only 3 Legs 'Never Giving Up' Has Us in Tears

Charlie stands out even more when he's side-by-side with his doggy sisters, Lilly and Abby. They're more like what pops into my head when I hear the word Dachshund, but now that I know better, Charlie and his gigantic "hands" also fit the bill.

As if his cuteness wasn't enough, this is one funny pup with personality for days. After doing his business, he likes to kick dirt and shout out to the world to celebrate his amazing achievement. Dogs are hilarious, and this is one reason why!

@topsaildachshunds

♬ original sound - TopsailDachshunds Are Wirehaired Dachshunds Rare?

If you've never seen a Wirehaired Dachshund like Charlie until now, welcome to the fan club! The lesser-known breed isn't exactly rare, but they're not as common as other Dachshunds. They resemble other breeds (like Miniature Goldendoodles) thanks to their scruffy hair and long ears that look like a Poodle's pigtails.

With expressive faces and huge, plush paws like a polar bear, they certainly look like they belong to another dog group entirely. Well, if it wasn't for their size, which gives them away.

That said, Charlie is one precious boy who's as sweet as he is handsome, but I wouldn't mess with anyone who has mitts of that size!

Sleepy Golden Retriever Refuses to Drop His Toy — Even Though He's Nodding Off to Sleep

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 6:10pm

Both my dogs love their plush toys. My Dachshund actually hides several of them from her Pug brother so she can snuggle with them when she naps. She's very strategic when it comes to stuffies.

Wally the Golden Retriever seems to have the same affection for his toys, to the point where he holds on to them while he naps.

@wally.meets.world

He was so tired but he did not want to drop his new toy 😂#goldenretriever #dogsoftiktok

♬ Chopin Nocturne No. 2 Piano Mono - moshimo sound design

In the TikTok from @wally.meets.world, the gorgeous Golden was practically asleep yet still had his new toy in his mouth. It was like he considered the new plushie, which looked like a toy apple, as a part of himself. Maybe it provided him comfort, or he was making sure no one would steal it. Either way, Wally definitely felt a kinship with the squishy toy.

When his dad tried to pull the toy out of Wally's mouth as he dozed, the persistent pooch held on to the object and refused to let go. Finally, his dad gently removed the toy despite a sleepy whimper from Wally.

Followers were charmed by Wally's devotion to the stuffed apple, with some relating to that strong an attachment.

"Just when I thought that Wally couldn’t be any cuter... I was wrong," one remarked.

"I admire that level of commitment, Wally," another raved.

"A warm milk bottle and a belly rub will do him in," a follower noted.

"Me with chocolate at 1 am," someone admitted.

Why Dogs Get Attached to Their Toys

Dogs can form bonds with certain toys, almost like humans do with a favorite sweater or coffee mug. These toys provide comfort and a sense of security for dogs. As the toy becomes more familiar and part of their day-to-day lives, a dog sees it as a stable part of their routine and something they can count on.

Related: Golden Retriever Banished to Bedroom Has Uncontrollable Need To ‘Supervise’ Maintenance Man

These toys also provide mental stimulation for dogs and give them something to focus on. The tactile aspect of the object, whether it's soft and squishy or a hard plastic ball good for chewing, is also pleasing to your pooch.

Wally will probably keep his new toy close by from now on, even in his sleep.

Munchkin Cat Walks Into Mom’s Room and Sounds Like She Says, 'Do You Want To Play?'

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 5:20pm

Some cats meow. Some chirp. And then there are the ones who walk into a room like they have a full sentence prepared.

This one might fall into that last category.

@munchkinstevie

The last word has her most syllables yet... or was it a word combined with a sneeze? Either way she has news for us all 😂 #munchkincats #talkingcat #seniorcat

♬ original sound - Stevie & Nonna

TikToker @munchkinstevie shared a clip of her senior Munchkin cat, Stevie, casually walking into the room with a toy in her mouth like she has a plan. She drops it, looks up, and then… makes a sound that feels suspiciously close to actual words.

The caption reads: “My senior cat just added more human words to her vocabulary,” and honestly, it’s hard to argue.

Related: Cat Mom Proves Maine Coon Cats Are Basically the Size of Golden Retrievers

The moment gets even better when the caption continues: “The last word has her most syllables yet… or was it a word combined with a sneeze? Either way, she has news for us all.”

Viewers immediately started trying to decode what Stevie was “saying,” and the comments turned into a full translation thread:

• “Hello, hello? Anyone wanna play? Do you wanna play, do you wanna play? Hello? Come on, I’m gorgeous.”
• “I definitely heard, ‘I got this,’”
• “I’m sure I heard, ‘Do you wanna play?’ and ‘I got this,’ right at the end.”
• “STAAHP IIIITTT!!! She literally brought her toy and SAID, ‘I wanna play… I got this!!’ Like ‘I got/brought this so we can play’!! I love herrrr!”
• “She is literally saying wanna play.”
• “She said huh gorgeous? I heard it.”

And once you hear it, you really do hear it.

There’s something about the combination of the toy drop, the timing, and the way she vocalizes that makes it feel intentional. Like she didn’t just wander in… she came in with a proposal.

I have three cats, and I swear they all have different “voices,” but none of them have ever sounded this close to forming actual words. My Maine Coon would absolutely try this, though, then immediately forget what he came in for.

Fun Facts About Munchkin Cats @popejoyy

🥹 #munchkincat #munchkin #cat #growup

♬ DadSocial - Mason Smith

Munchkin cats are known for their unique look and big personalities, and Stevie is very much on-brand.

• Munchkin cats have shorter legs due to a natural genetic mutation, but they are still fast and playful.
• They're known for being outgoing, social, and very interactive with their families.
• Despite their shorter legs, they love to run, climb, and play just like other kitties.
• Many Munchkin cats are especially vocal and use a wide range of sounds to communicate.
• They often carry toys around in their mouths, which makes moments like this feel even more intentional.
• Their playful personality tends to stick around well into their senior years.

So while Stevie might not technically be speaking English… she’s definitely getting her point across.

And if that point is “I brought this, we’re playing now,” honestly, that feels pretty clear.

Golden Retriever Puppy’s Beach Day Took a Turn—Vets Warn About This Risk

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:20pm

There's always some extra excitement in the air when the weather starts to turn warm, and we see longer days filled with the sun. The first beach trip of the year is always a family favorite, but if you've got a new puppy this year, beach trips and puppies sometimes take an unexpected turn.

In this video, we meet a Golden Retriever puppy who's hanging out at the beach with his mom, but instead of enjoying time in the water or lying back and taking in all the sights, their plans went sideways, and it's something vets warn about.

TikTok user @george_thegoldenboy shared a video of what was supposed to be a fun day at the beach with her young Golden Retriever. The two were hanging out on the sand, but Mom was stressed, and when she turned the camera to George, the Golden Boy, it became very clear why she was struggling a little.

George is lying down in the sand, not enjoying the sights and sounds of the beach but doing his very best to eat all the sand.

In the comments, people were really feeling the stress George's mom was under while supervising the silly dog playing in the sand.

One person wrote, “My 6-month-old eats everything! I want to take him to the beach, but that's exactly why I won't; he'll most likely eat the sand."

Another shared, “And here I am with my German Shepherd Golden mix, and I wonder why he is a mouthy, sassy thing."

Someone else added, "Labs, too. It’s a second job just keeping things out of my dog's mouth."

Other comments include, “Everything smells too good, yummy, [and] exciting," "The sass is next-level, my girl is the sassiest," "I have never related to a video so much," "Mine eats everything, but her kibble," "How do you get him to stop?" and "Labs and Goldens will eat anything and everything. Why Vets Warn Against Dogs Eating Sand and the Risks Pet Parents Should Know

George is just a baby, so he doesn't know much yet, but his mama is probably stressed out since vets warn against dogs eating sand.

According to Gulf Coast Veterinary Center, dogs are at risk of a condition called "sand impaction," which can occur when they swallow sand. They explain that this condition occurs when sand accumulates in a pup's digestive tract, leading to a blockage. Some symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy.

Dogs aren't designed to digest sand, so when some accumulates in the stomach or intestines after ingesting it, the sand can form a hard mass that blocks a pup's intestinal function, which could lead to a perforation, which is very serious. But that's not the only potential risk from sand; dogs may also experience electrolyte imbalances and dehydration, discomfort, and/or abdominal pain, even without a blockage.

Gulf Coast Veterinary Center offers some ways to help prevent sand impaction, including providing fresh water, which can help dilute any sand that might be ingested, monitoring their eating habits, keeping a close eye on them when they're playing at the beach, and if you notice any symptoms or your dog isn't being their typical self after a beach visit, it's always good to check in with your veterinarian.

Hopefully, George has learned his lesson after being redirected several times at the beach with his mama, so they can continue to build the best memories out in the sun.

Chubby Chow Puppy Slides off the Sofa Like a Fuzzy Meatball and Fully Commits

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 10:55am

There's a moment when a dog realizes getting off the sofa requires effort, and then there's the moment when that dog decides… absolutely not. That's exactly where this very round Chow Chow puppy lands, and once you see it, you understand the decision completely.

He's perched on the sofa, clearly considering his options, and then instead of stepping down like a normal, reasonable creature, he goes with something much more creative.

@bunglebear4

The adorable clip was posted by @bunglebear4, and it shows the puppy attempting to dismount the sofa before immediately sliding off like gravity just took over. He lands on a pile of pillows and somehow turns the whole thing into a slow, lazy somersault that ends with him upside down, completely unfazed.

Related: Tiny, Roly-Poly Bulldog Puppies Wrestling Each Other Is Peak Cuteness

The caption, “My way to get off the sofa,” feels less like a joke and more like a personal philosophy.

People in the comments were obsessed. “Bro just gave up halfway,” one person wrote, which feels accurate because there's a clear point where effort is abandoned and the plan becomes, “Let’s see what happens.”

“Is he part panda?” someone else asked, which honestly… fair question given the shape and the commitment to rolling.

“The way he stops like that was where he planned to go,” another commenter pointed out, and that's the funniest part. It really does look intentional, like he stuck the landing exactly as envisioned.

“The most graceful tumble,” one person said, followed by, “He is elegance. He is grace. No notes,” which feels like the only appropriate review of this performance.

And then, “Same, fluffy potato, same,” which might be the most relatable takeaway of all.

I will say: This is very familiar behavior. My Maine Coon, Meatball, does the same thing when he's somewhere he absolutely should not be, like the kitchen counter, and instead of climbing down, he just rolls. Full commitment. No awareness of size. Just… gravity handles it. It never ends well, but it never stops him either.

How To Keep Your Dog off the Sofa Australian Shepherd on a sofa arm.

Image Via: Pixel-Shot/Shutterstock

If your dog has decided the sofa is their personal space, there are a few ways to gently set boundaries.

Start by giving them a comfortable alternative. A cozy dog bed placed nearby can make it easier to redirect them without your pet feeling like they're missing out.

Consistency is key. If you don't want your pup on the sofa, it's important to stick to that rule every time. Mixed signals can make it harder for them to understand what's expected.

You can also use positive reinforcement by rewarding your dog when they choose their own space instead of the furniture. This helps build a habit over time.

And if all else fails, physical barriers like blankets, cushions, or even closing off the room can help break the routine.

That said, if your dog does make it onto the sofa, just be prepared… getting down might turn into a whole situation.

Blind, Critically-Ill Senior Street Dog Finds New Will to Live After Rescue

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 10:10am

Niall Harbison never gives up on a dog. He helps street dogs suffering from illness, abuse, and trauma through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo, and gives every dog he finds a chance at recovery.

Rocky is one of those canines that needs lots of support, and Harbison is up for the challenge. The senior dog was abandoned due to his failing health and longed for human touch. Thankfully, Harbison was called in.

View this post on Instagram

Harbison immediately took Rocky for medical attention, where tests revealed he has glaucoma causing his blindness, blood parasites, skin issues, and pressure on his organs. Though Rocky acted a bit aggressively when Harbison first rescued him, the senior dog was defensive due to fear. Harbison spent time with Rocky and saw that the pooch actually loved being spoken to and held.

Rocky was in such poor shape that it was hard to tell if recovery was possible. Yet after a few days at Happy Doggo, the sweet canine is beginning to let his guard down and shows signs of healing.

"I think you can see from his whole body language, his wagging tail, and how hungry he is that this is a dog that very much wants to live," Harbison explained in the caption from the Instagram video from @niall.harbison.

Rocky Is a Fighter

Harbison has Rocky on a comfortable schedule of nutritious food, rest, and affection.

"Every day we have a little routine where I change his bandana and bring him some smoked salmon and poached chicken," the Happy Doggo founder shared. "It's a little boy's picnic and it's the most magical time."

Rocky has already grown accustomed to Harbison's voice and is feeling at home at the rescue. No matter how long it takes, Harbison is committed to being right by the pooch's side during every step of his healing journey.

"We're slowly getting towards a stage where we might be able to do more for him with his eyes, but there's no rush on that because he has so many ailments," the caption noted. "What I am noticing is that he's fantastic at navigating around using my voice, the smell of food, and by learning the different types of grass and trees in his small area."

Harbison concluded the post by adding, "A truly special little creature is Mr. Rocky."
