7 Signs Your Dog Feels Safe and Loved at Bedtime, According to Trainers

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 4:30pm

At the end of the day, the way your dog settles into bed can reveal more than just tiredness—it can be a way your dog communicates that they feel safe, loved and completely at home with you. From soft sighs to their favorite sleeping positions, these adorable bedtime habits often reflect a deeper sense of trust than many pet owners realize.

According to Amanda Farah, a trainer and behavior coordinator at Best Friends Animal Society, encouraging those routines is essential for a dog’s well-being. “If your dog has a bedtime ritual, it’s best to support it,” she explains. “Research shows that dogs who get enough sleep have fewer behavior challenges, likely because they feel so much better when they're up during the day. So, whatever your dog’s bedtime routine looks like, it’s crucial to help them feel relaxed and comfortable so they can get the recommended 12 to 14 hours of sleep they need to be happy and healthy.”

Therefore, while it may just look like your dog is winding down for the night, trainers say these cute moments can actually be heartwarming indicators of emotional security. Below, experts break down the bedtime behaviors that show your dog feels comfortable, relaxed and deeply bonded with you. See how many your dog does!

7 Bedtime Behaviors That Show Your Dog Feels Safe and Loved Sometimes the sweetest signs of love are the quiet ones that show up at bedtime.

While these sweet behaviors may seem simple, trainers say they often reflect a deeper sense of how your pup feels. Paying attention to them can help you better understand your dog’s emotional well-being.

They Want to Be Near You When Sleeping

If your dog suddenly becomes your shadow as bedtime approaches, it might not be random at all. Many dogs naturally seek closeness with their favorite person when they’re winding down for the night.

“Whether your dog likes to cuddle you at night, always rests a paw on your leg, or just stays nearby, that’s a good sign that they feel safe and loved with you,” Farah says.

They Check In with You Before Bed

Even if your dog doesn’t sleep in your bed or stays in their own space, they may still come find you before settling down for the night. These small “check-ins” are often their way of making sure everything is calm and secure.

"Pups that feel safe and loved will often check in with you periodically, including before bed, just to make sure all is well," says Erin Askeland, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, Camp Bow Wow's animal health and behavior expert

They Have a Bedtime Buddy A favorite toy at bedtime can be a sweet sign your dog feels relaxed.

A favorite toy or “lovey” brought to bed can be one of the most tender little bedtime habits dogs have. These familiar objects often help them settle in, creating a sense of calm and comfort as the day winds down.

“If you share a bed with your pup and they bring a favorite toy to sleep with and they rest soundly, that’s a good sign that they trust that you’ll help keep the toy safe while they sleep,” Farah says. She adds that this may also mean your dog looks forward to morning playtime with you.

They Try to Sleep on Top of You

It’s not always easy to fall asleep when your dog is trying to curl up right on top of you, but trainers say this behavior is actually a sign of strong attachment. Many dogs feel safest when they’re physically close to their dog parents as they consider them to be their family and their protector.

“Dogs are social sleepers,” Farah notes. “They have more restful sleep in the company of their favorite companions, and they often choose to sleep nearly on top of each other when given the chance.”

They Burrow Under Blankets and Pillows Nesting under blankets is a calming bedtime habit that helps dogs feel warm and secure.

Getty Images Cavan Images

Whether they’re in your bed or their own, lots of dogs love to burrow under blankets or pillows at bedtime. This comfort-seeking behavior often reflects a need for warmth and familiarity as they settle in for the night.

In fact, for many dogs, surrounding themselves with soft bedding is a calming ritual that helps them feel secure and relaxed before sleep.

They Sleep Belly-Up at Bedtime

Have you ever wondered what yoru dog's sleep position reveals? When a dog sleeps on their back with their belly exposed, it’s often a sign they feel completely at peace in their environment. This vulnerable position shows a high level of comfort, especially during sleep.

“Dogs don’t expose their belly for kicks. If they sleep belly-up, it shows that they feel loved and trust that they’ll be safe while they snooze,” says Shannon Walker, dog trainer and founder of Northwest Battle Buddies.

They Twitch In Their Sleep

If your dog twitches, barks softly, or “runs” in their sleep, it can seem strange. However, there's no need to worry, this is actually a sign of healthy deep sleep and means your furbaby is dreaming. Trainers associate this bedtime action with feeling secure enough to fully relax.

“Sleeping deeply enough to dream is a wonderful indicator that your dog feels safe with you,” Farah explains.

So, if you notice your pup doing this, it's a good thing and is common REM sleep behavior.

7 Abandoned Puppies With 'No Way to Survive' Were Running Out of Time as Floodwaters Closed In

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 10:10am

Niall Harbison rarely comes across puppies in his work with street dogs through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. Yet from time to time, he's called in to help a lone pup or an entire litter, usually in a dire situation.

The animal advocate recently came to the rescue of seven tiny puppies who were about to be subjected to swirling flood waters.

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo described the rescue and the impending storm that would have trapped the puppies.

"Dumped like trash with a massive storm on the way," the onscreen text explained as Harbison carried out each puppy from underground rubble. "These tiny puppies had nowhere to run and no way to survive. It was a race against time."

Harbison and his team brought the precious puppies back to the Happy Doggo sanctuary to get them medically checked and provide them with the essentials.

"We got them all," the story continued as clips showed the puppies snuggled in a blanket and playing with Harbison in a grassy yard. "Warm, safe, and dry."

Harbison's Mission for Prevention

Part of Harbison's incentive for spearheading Happy Doggo was to get dogs sterilized to prevent more canines from living a life of homelessness. According to the rescue's website, over 160,000 sterilizations have been funded to date.

"We don’t see many puppies at Happy Doggo Land because our sterilization programs prevent them from being born on the streets," the captain explained. "But these seven are making the absolute most of their second chance!"

Harbison is obviously enjoying his time with the fluffy fur babies while trying to find them a forever home.

"We are definitely making the most of the puppy chaos," the video concluded.

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina, and a retirement village for senior dogs.

7 Subtle Signs Your Cat Is Actually in Pain (and Trying to Hide It From You)

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 10:03am

Cats aren’t always overly expressive animals, so when they're sick or under the weather, it may be hard to know, even as their parent. While some cats may be vocal or express discomfort and let you know they're not feeling well, others may choose to keep it to themselves and hide their pain from everyone, including you. And if your cat is a bit more aloof or doesn’t hang around you all the time, it can be hard to know if there is something off with them.

Before you worry, though, know this: there are some subtle signs to keep an eye out for that may let you know that your cat is in pain. In addition to being able to recognize the signs of pain, it’s also important to know exactly what steps to take to get them the help and support they need as soon as possible.

We spoke to a veterinarian to learn the signs a cat may be in pain, as well as how to prepare for their vet visit and when to recognize their symptoms as an emergency that requires immediate help. Read on to stay informed so you can be better prepared to take care of your pet should they exhibit any signs of pain.

Why Cats Are Wired to Hide Their Pain

Alexander Andrews/Unsplash

Cats aren’t your typical domestic pets, but luckily they have a lengthy history that helps shed some light on their behaviors and characteristics. While other pets (like dogs) may try to get your attention by any means necessary if they’re feeling pain, cats will often go to great lengths to make sure you never find out.

According to Dr. Matthew Murdoch, veterinarian and director of Ferndale Kennels and Travel Pet Relocation Services, “Cats are small carnivores, so while they are a predator, they are also threatened by bigger predators due to their smallish size relative to them. As a prey animal in this way, they know not to show signs of pain, as weakness symptoms would make them more vulnerable to attack.”

Raised to protect themselves from their environment and potentially dangerous attackers, it’s not surprising to see why cats may try to keep pain to themselves as best they can.

Signs Your Cat Is in Pain

Alexander Possingham/Unsplash

Even if your cat doesn't exhibit any noticeable external injuries, there are some more subtle signs you can look for to see if your cat is in pain.

According to Dr. Tanya Schoeman, veterinary specialist physician and Royal Canin feline health specialist, these signs may include the following:

  • Changes in energy levels
  • Different sleeping patterns
  • Increased vocalization or restlessness
  • Subtle weight changes
  • Changes in toileting habits
  • Hesitation before jumping or using stairs, or difficulty getting up after resting
  • Changes in grooming habits

While they might not exhibit all of these signs, they are some examples of ways a cat may show they're in pain.

If you believe your cat is in pain and notice changes in their behavior, the best thing to do is to contact your vet immediately. Considering that cats don’t tend to show their pain, any sign visible enough for you to notice means it's time to head to the vet.

If it's past your vet’s normal hours, head to a 24/7 emergency vet for a faster response. When it comes to your cat’s health, it’s important to check out any potential issues as soon as possible.

How to Prepare for Your Vet Visit (and What to Document)

Judy Beth Morris/Unsplash

Cats, like most pets, aren’t great fans of the vet. To make the process easier, be sure to keep a log of all their symptoms and dates of changes for your cat’s doctor to best be able to treat your feline friend. You may also want to bring their favorite blanket, a toy or a cozy item to help ease their anxieties while they're at the vet.

When to Treat These Subtle Signs as an Emergency

Beyza Yurtkuran/Unsplash

While some subtle signs of pain might not be due to a true emergency, there are additional signs to look for that may let you know your feline friend needs emergency care ASAP. According to Dr. Murdoch, “Watch for not passing urine, repeated litter tray visits or crying in the tray, especially in male cats. These can be signs of a urinary blockage that is life-threatening. This cat needs a vet now.”

Dr. Murdoch adds that “fear and pain often look very similar: hiding, hissing, swiping at people with the paw [and] refusing to move. If in doubt, call the vet for advice.”

Treating a cat can be a complex situation, especially if they don’t want to let you help them, but keeping your cat healthy and safe is key to a long and prosperous life for your feline friend. With these tips and signs of pain to look for in your cat, you can act faster and help get them the best possible care.

Deaf Cat Makes the Sweetest Sounds Every Time His Mom Greets Him

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 9:20am

There's nothing like when your mom comes home after a long day at work, or even if she is out for a short errand, especially if you're a sweet, deaf Black Cat named Otter.

In this heartwarming video, when his mom comes to greet him from behind, the deaf cat makes sweet sounds.

She gently pets him from behind, and the sound he makes to greet his mom is so sweet.

@iamgooseontheloose

i love it when i get an extended otter noise #catsoftiktok #tiktokcats #rescuecats #deafcat #fyp

♬ original sound - goose, otter & lettuce

His little prolonged chirp actually does make him sound like an otter, so it was an appropriate name choice.

Obviously, this video showing the cat's beautiful bond with his mom has garnered some sweet comments from the internet.

"Omg, his precious little chirps," one wrote.

"My boy is deaf, too, and he makes the same noises!!!" another said.

"Trills are almost as good as a heavy purr. How people don’t love cats is beyond me," another fan said.

Another person said they were going to use the sound as their ringtone.

How Do Deaf Cats Communicate?

If you're wondering how deaf cats communicate, it's a very important question.

Body language, touch, and vocalizations are all part of a deaf kitty's communication.

First of all, what is the cause of feline deafness?

Sometimes it happens due to old age in cats, or a bad ear infection or injury can cause deafness.

Some kitties are just born deaf due to a genetic condition called congenital deafness.

So we're not sure how Otter became deaf, but we do know he's still good at communicating despite his deafness.

The best way to communicate with your deaf cat is through touch and vibrations, as they can still feel and sense these.

You could try stomping your foot on the ground to get your pet’s attention.

You can also teach a deaf cat sign language.

Parents of deaf kitties can use American Sign Language, or they can just try simple signals that work for them and their cat.

As we see in this video, after Otter's mom gently pets him, she then waves as a signal that he understands that she's home and greeting him.

And Otter couldn't be happier that Mom is home, so he makes the delighted little trill.

Itty-Bitty Tuxedo Kitty Looks Like 'One Very Angry Popcorn'

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 8:20am

Some kittens arrive in the world as sweet little angels.

Others arrive with the energy of a customer demanding to speak to management.

This tiny Tuxedo kitten definitely falls into the second category.

Despite being approximately the size of a decorative throw pillow and possessing exactly zero real authority, the itty-bitty feline has already decided he has complaints.

A lot of them.

@rju.b94

The kitten is the embodiment ofanger#funnyvideos#fup#cat#funnycat#catsoftiktok

♬ original sound - RJu B94

TikToker @rju.b94 shared the hilarious clip. The video shows the itty-bitty Tuxedo kitty charging into a room while unleashing a series of surprisingly passionate meows directed at someone standing above him.

The tiny cat looks up and continues expressing his grievances in a voice that somehow manages to be both adorable and deeply offended.

Related: Mechanics Rescue Tiny Calico Kitten From Car Engine and Everyone’s Emotional

The caption calls him "the embodiment of anger," which feels pretty hard to argue with.

The contrast between his tiny size and enormous attitude immediately sent viewers into the comments.

One person wrote:

"Your dryer lint is angry."

Another added:

"Your sea urchin is talking."

Honestly, both descriptions feel surprisingly accurate.

The kitten is so small and fluffy that he barely resembles a cat at all. He looks more like something you might accidentally find stuck to a sweater after laundry day.

Others couldn't get over just how tiny he was.

"Not even one apple tall."

And perhaps the most fitting description of all:

"OMG, one angry popcorn."

That might be the winner.

The kitten genuinely looks like somebody brought a piece of popcorn to life and accidentally gave it the personality of a grumpy old man who just discovered the neighborhood kids stepped on his lawn.

The funniest part is that nobody has any idea what he's upset about.

Maybe breakfast was late.

Maybe he wanted attention.

Maybe he simply woke up and chose fury.

Whatever the reason, he's fully committed to making sure everyone hears about it.

My elderly Orange Cat, Tarkus, occasionally yells at walls, empty rooms, and sometimes seemingly at the concept of existence itself, so I respect a tiny cat who isn't afraid to voice his concerns.

Why Do Kittens Meow So Much? @jellybutterr

He peed on me but its ok I forgive him #kitten #kitty #babykitty

♬ original sound - Miri <3

Kittens meow frequently because it's one of their primary ways of communicating with humans and their mothers.

Young Kittens Often Meow When They:

Want food

• Need attention

• Feel lonely

• Are excited

• Feel frustrated

• Are exploring new environments

As kittens grow older, many continue using vocalizations to communicate with the people they trust most.

If this tiny Tuxedo kitten keeps this level of confidence and attitude, he's going to be running the entire household by next Tuesday.

24-Year-Old Shelter Cat Loses Home He's Had Since Kittenhood, and It's Heartbreaking

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 7:10am

Dogs and cats wind up in a shelter for various reasons. Sometimes they are found as strays wandering the streets, while in other situations, pet parents face health issues or financial difficulties.

Pinky is a sweet black and white cat who was recently brought to NAWS Humane Society after living with his family for 24 years. The pretty kitty is understandably sad and confused at the sudden turn of events and needs a lot of love and comfort.

@franflight

My jaw dropped to the floor when I heard how old Pinky was. I didn’t believe that this was real. He shows his age in his teeth, eyes, and the way he walks. He eats SO great and is truly a very sweet and docile boy. If you are looking for a sweet and calm super senior, please consider adopting Pinky. You can submit a cat adoption application at nawsus.org under the tab adoption center. He isn’t posted on the website since he hasn’t been medically cleared for adoption yet, and we are hoping this video is enough to get him in and out of the shelter. i love you guys SO much, im sending you tons of love- thank you for helping us help Pinky.🥹🤍🫂 #adopt #adoptdontshop #cat #catsoftiktok #dog

♬ Home - Slowed - Edith Whiskers

The TikTok from @franflight shared Pinky's story and confirmed that the cat is 24 years old.

"Pinky is the oldest cat that has come into our rescue," the onscreen text explained as Pinky huddled in her blanket inside the kennel, then snuggled with a staff member. "His previous owners were adamant that this is his correct age since they have had him since he was a kitten."

Sadly, the only family Pinky had ever known fell on very hard times and made the difficult decision to surrender their cat.

"Pinky's family became homeless and couldn't take him where they were going," the story continued.

Despite the traumatic transition, Pinky looks much younger than his actual age. Outside of walking "a little funny", the adorable cat is in "great health".

Pinky Deserves a Forever Home

The senior cat has some signs of aging, yet his appetite remains intact, and he's very loving and affectionate. Pinky will be available for adoption once he receives medical clearance.

"He shows his age in his teeth, eyes, and the way he walks," the caption shared. "He eats SO great and is truly a very sweet and docile boy. If you are looking for a sweet and calm super senior, please consider adopting Pinky."

Viewers of the video advocated for Pinky, with many showing interest in adoption. Hopefully this wonderful fur baby will soon get out of the shelter and into a loving home.

"Pinky deserves to live his golden years in a home," the text concluded. "Pinky, we love you. Your forever home is coming."

This British Shorthair Kitten's 'Beachy' Eyes Are So Rare, People Think She Isn't Real

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 6:55am

All kittens are born with a deep blue eye color that's really quite stunning, but that blue eventually morphs into their permanent eye color (usually green or brown). By their 2-month mark, their true coat and eye shades come in, transforming them into a totally different-looking cat.

One British Shorthair kitten is taking the internet by storm, and it's all because of her incredibly rare eye color that'll leave you smitten!

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram post shared by Macarena Fajardo shows the tiny peach-tinted kitten with striking, beachy "blue golden" peepers. Any kitten who gets to keep their blue gaze is automatically special, but with that little extra golden sparkle, she looks straight out of a fairy tale or Disney movie.

The most amazing thing is that this color combo isn't just rare, it's truly a magical gift only seen in a *very* small part of the feline population.

Related: Gorgeous British Shorthair Cat's Eyes Are Like Glowing Pumpkin Marmalade

How Rare Are 'Blue Golden' Eyes?

To say the British Shorthair kitten's eyes are rare is an understatement. The interesting color blend is only found in less than 1% of cats in the world!

While many kitties have heterochromia—one blue eye and one gold—the kitten of the moment is said to have dichroic/sectoral eyes, which happens when a single iris splits the pigment distribution between blue and gold.

The result is a golden ring dazzling in otherwise all-blue eyes. Being blessed with blue-gold peepers stems from genetics, particularly the dominant white gene, which determines the amount of melanin in the iris. The kitties bred by @british.miaukolor are made to have those traffic-stopping emerald eyes you won't see in most other breeds.

View this post on Instagram

Typical heterochromia happens when the white gene prevents pigment from getting into one of the eyes in the womb, while kitties who keep their baby blues are blessed by the absence of melanin. Sometimes they even get a ghost eye, making them even cooler.

By 6 to 8 weeks old, pet parents can expect to see what the kitten's forever shade will be. If by chance they end up with extremely rare blue-gold eyes, consider yourself one lucky duck!

I Wish I Knew These 8 Things Before Getting a Maine Coon—Especially #4

Sun, 06/07/2026 - 6:10am

Our Maine Coon is by far the largest cat in our family, weighing in at an impressive 22 pounds. Despite his size, he's a silly, talkative gentle giant who loves playing fetch and kneading his favorite pair of yellow pillows (sometimes all day long). Before bringing him home, I didn't know much about the breed beyond the fact that Maine Coons are the largest domestic cats.

What surprised me most was their social nature. No one told me that Maine Coons are often more dog-like than typical cats, following their people from room to room, seeking interaction and preferring to be part of the action rather than spending all day curled up in a lap. But those quirks just made me love him even more.

If you're on the fence about getting a Maine Coon, they can be an incredible addition to your life, but just know they aren't like other cats. Looking back now, there are a few things I wish someone had told me about before bringing home a Maine Coon. Some are silly, some are expensive and some are surprisingly sweet. Here's what I learned over my years as a cat parent that I think others should know before getting one of these adorable, giant felines.

Related: 10 Signs Your Cat is Emotionally Attached to You, Says an Expert

What I Wish I Knew Before Getting a Maine Coon These gentle giants come with a few quirks most owners don't expect.

Getty Images Shirlaine Forrest

Below are eight things I’ve discovered over the years of my family having a Maine Coon that many cat lovers don't think about before adding one of these cuties to their household.

1. You Can't Use a Normal Cat Carrier

Nobody warns you that becoming a Maine Coon parent comes with a unique challenge: finding a cat carrier big enough for your growing furry friend. What starts as a tiny kitten that fits comfortably in a standard carrier can quickly turn into a majestic, dog-sized feline that barely squeezes through the door. As your cat grows, upgrading to an oversized carrier becomes less of a luxury and more of a necessity. After all, your gentle giant deserves plenty of space to stretch out and travel in comfort.

“Their huge size means they often require larger-sized travel crates than average cats,” says Dr. Matthew Murdoch, veterinarian and director at Ferndale Kennels. “More space, more ventilation. Don’t expect to squeeze them into a regular cat carrier.”

2. They’re Water-Loving Cats

Most people don't expect a cat to enjoy getting wet, but Maine Coons have a huge fascination with water. It's one of the breed's most charming—and sometimes messy—quirks that pet parents are unaware of.

If you're thinking of getting one of these cats, don't be surprised if they spend time splashing in their water dish, investigating running faucets, or eagerly supervising your bath time. You may even want to get a cat water fountain since Maine Coons often prefer moving water to a traditional bowl.

3. They're Not as Chill and Low Maintenance as People Think

When you get a cat, you might assume they'll be laidback and super chill. However, Maine Coons are actually incredibly athletic despite their size, so don't underestimate their jumping ability and need for playtime.

In fact, Maine Coons can leap up to six feet high and enjoy perching up above to supervise their surroundings, so you may want to invest in taller, high-quality cat accessories that can both withstand their weight and give them a bird’s eye view of their surroundings.

Related: 8 Subtle Signs Your Cat May Be a Little Frustrated and How You Can Help

4. They Require Bigger Everything

Just know that Maine Coons are big cats, with males easily reaching 15-25 pounds or more. They also continue growing until they’re about 3-5 years old, which is longer than most breeds.

Because of this, you can't just go out and buy cat normal supplies. Instead, you have to get larger cat furniture than you'd expect, which includes everything from cat trees and window hammocks to litter boxes. This is probably one of the biggest mistakes new Maine Coon owners make without thinking twice about it.

“You need to think vertically and horizontally, with sturdy cat trees, wide litter boxes and furniture that can handle their weight,” suggests veterinarian Dr. Ruth Roberts. “Cheap cat furniture won’t cut it.”

5. They Need Mental Stimulation and “Jobs” to Stay Happy

Before getting a Maine Coon, I thought keeping a cat entertained would be fairly simple. What I didn't realize was just how smart this breed truly is. These cats crave mental stimulation and love having a purpose.

“Puzzle feeders, interactive toys, training sessions and environmental rotation are important,” Roberts says. “Without adequate enrichment, boredom can contribute to overeating or undesirable behaviors. Daily active play and vertical space are especially beneficial.”

6. They’re Social, People-Oriented Cats

While it’s easy to assume all cats are independent and standoffish, these devoted companions are a far cry from the norm, which is why I was shocked to learn how social and dog-like they are!

“Maine Coons are often described as ‘dog-like’ because they want to be with you,” Roberts explains. “They'll follow you room to room, greet you at the door and many even enjoy playing fetch.”

If you’re gone 10 or more hours per day, and you don’t have any other pets, your Maine Coon may grow lonely and even get depressed without another companion around.

7. They Need to Be on a Diet

While adult Maine Coons generally weigh more than the average house cat, it’s important not to overfeed them. When it comes to their diet, quality matters more than ever. That's why a moisture-rich, high-quality diet is ideal, such as veterinarian-approved raw, gently cooked diets for cats, or high-protein canned food.

“With a cat this size, nutrition is especially important,” explains Dr. Dean Vicksman, veterinarian and EveryCat Health Foundation board president. “You want to avoid relying on dry food as the primary diet. A large proportion of indoor cats still eat mostly kibble, and it’s associated with higher risks of obesity, diabetes, kidney disease and urinary tract issues, particularly in predisposed breeds.”

8. They Can Be Prone to Genetic Health Conditions

This is the one I really wish someone had prepared me for before getting a Maine Coon as I didn't know Maine Coons were prone to several inherited health conditions, with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) being one of the most serious.

HCM is a heart disease that can affect cats of any breed, but it occurs more frequently in Maine Coons due to a genetic predisposition. Reputable breeders typically screen their breeding cats for HCM and other hereditary conditions, making it important to ask about health testing before adopting one.

“They may also have increased risk of hip dysplasia and spinal muscular atrophy depending on lineage,” Roberts says. “Kidney health is another area to monitor. Supporting hydration through a moisture-rich diet can be helpful, and in integrative practice, some clinicians also consider supporting kidney function through individualized nutrition strategies.”

Because of their health concerns, routine vet visits, vaccines, appointments and medications to help care for Maine Coons all add up over time, which a lot of first-time Maine Coon cat owners don't expect.

Playful Cat Gets the Zoomies and Literally Runs up the Wall

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 7:20pm

Most cats get the zoomies. This cat apparently got a software update.

Because instead of simply sprinting around the house like a normal feline maniac, he decided gravity was more of a suggestion than an actual rule.

The result is one of the funniest cat videos I've seen in a while.

@theclustercluckfarm

Finally got the whole climb on video....Since so many people thought I put her up there for the views 🙄 and her siblings decided to join in! #catsoftiktok #batcat #catman #cat #crazycat

♬ オリジナル楽曲 - queen_greatest_pop - queen_greatest_pop

Shared on the TikTok account @theclustercluckfarm, the chaotic clip shows a gray-and-white cat racing around the room at top speed before suddenly launching himself up a doorway and hanging there like some sort of furry superhero.

For a brief moment, he appears to completely forget he's a kitty and becomes something closer to a squirrel, a gymnast, or possibly Spider-Man.

Related: Tabby Cat Has a Tiny Doll Version of Herself and People Are Losing It

But the best part is that he isn't the only character in this masterpiece.

As the wall-climbing cat dangles from the doorway, one of his gray siblings immediately joins the action by reaching up and scratching at the same spot.

Then, just when you think the scene can't get any more chaotic, a Tuxedo cat comes flying into the room, slides dramatically across the floor, and disappears again like he had an important appointment elsewhere.

The comments section was every bit as entertaining as the video itself.

"I aspire to this level of upper-body strength."

"Spider Cat, Spider Cat, doing whatever a Spider Cat can."

"I am so glad my cats haven't realized they can do that."

And perhaps the most relatable observation:

"Every character in this video was fantastic, thank you."

Honestly, that commenter nailed it.

This isn't one cat video.

It's an ensemble cast.

Every kitty seems to have a different role.

One is the athlete.

One is the curious sidekick.

One is the comic relief who arrives, causes confusion, and immediately exits stage left.

Viewers were also amazed that all three cats somehow caught the zoomies at exactly the same time.

Anyone who lives with multiple cats knows this phenomenon can happen without warning. One cat starts running, another joins in, and suddenly the entire house looks like a feline NASCAR event.

Why Do Cats Get the Zoomies?

The zoomies, sometimes called frenetic random activity periods (FRAPs), are short bursts of energy that cause cats to run, jump, climb, and act unusually energetic.

Cats Often Get the Zoomies When They:

• Have excess energy to burn

• Feel playful

• Are excited

• Finish using the litter box

• Want attention

• Are responding to another kitty's behavior

Young cats and kittens tend to experience zoomies more frequently, especially when living with other playful cats.

And if this video proves anything, it's that when one cat gets the zoomies, sometimes the entire cast decides to join the production.

This Golden Retriever's Reaction To Becoming a Big Sister Is Hilariously Dramatic

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 6:20pm

Golden Retrievers are famous for being friendly, soft-hearted, and generally thrilled to be included in whatever is happening. That's exactly why this video is so funny to me. When a breed known for sweetness looks personally offended by one tiny new sibling, the contrast is gold. Goldens are normally described as outgoing and eager to please, which makes Nola's dramatic reaction even better.

The setup is perfect. Someone is holding a brand-new Golden Retriever puppy named Nash and asks, in that hopeful voice people use when they are trying to launch a very cute family moment, whether the older dog wants to come say hi. Then the camera pans over, and there is Nola, facing the window like she has just received devastating news and would now like some privacy.

@nola.nash.thegoldens

I know she will love her brother but right now she’s so confused 😂 #newpuppy #seconddog #goldenretrieverpuppy #goldenretrieverlife #dogcomedy

♬ original sound - Nola & Nash

That's why this clip is so great.

She isn't barking, lunging, or throwing a fit. She is doing something much better. She's quietly, visibly, spiritually not OK. The post basically says she will love the new baby eventually, but at this exact moment, confusion is running the household. Nola doesn't look angry so much as betrayed by the speed of recent developments.

If you have ever watched an older dog process a new puppy, you know that face. (Mine threw the new pup off the couch.) It's the face of a dog realizing the peaceful era has ended.

One comment joked about whether there was still a receipt, which is brutal and also extremely in line with the vibe here. Because Nash looks adorable, tiny, innocent, and absolutely impossible to blame. Meanwhile, Nola is trying to hold herself together like a sitcom mom who just found out her quiet weekend has been canceled forever.

What I love most is that the video never needs to force the joke. The whole thing is already there in body language. Nash is just being a puppy. Nola is having a hard day. And somewhere in between those two truths is us laughing and feeling a little sad for both animals.

If you have ever brought a puppy home, you can probably feel the next chapter coming. Nola will almost certainly end up loving him. The older dog usually does. But first, there's this stage, the one where the puppy is all promise and chaos, and the resident dog is left wondering whether anyone considered her opinion before introducing a tiny Golden tornado into her home.

How To Help an Older Dog Adjust to a New Puppy

If you're bringing home a puppy to a dog who's used to being the only baby, the biggest gift you can give both dogs is time. The AKC notes that older dogs and puppies usually need careful introductions, supervised time together, breaks from each other, and enough exercise and structure, so the puppy isn't constantly climbing into the older dog’s face.

Nola did not lose her place in the family. She just got promoted to exhausted older sister, and frankly, the woman deserves a minute.

Dachshund Gets VIP Treatment With Her Own Seat on a Beach Golf Cart

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 5:55pm

There's nothing like riding in style, and this Dachshund named Lady has definitely accomplished that.

The little dog has her own special Dachshund beach golf cart seat, and she couldn't look cooler.

@abbybaffoe

Lady riding dirty 💅💅

♬ original sound - lala

This dog is living her best life riding in her own special seat in a golf cart.

We wouldn't expect anything less from Lady the Dachshund's mom, Abby Baffoe, who is an influencer.

Lady already has quite a glamorous life, full of photo shoots, fancy hotel stays, and eating caviar, and we hear that her next trip is going to be an influencer trip to Paris with her mom for Tresemme.

So her riding in style in a golf cart at her mom's new beach house in Michigan absolutely lines up.

Related: Lady the Dachshund and Her Mom Celebrate Her Gotcha Day Anniversary and We're Crying

Why Dogs Love Riding in Golf Carts

So why do dogs love riding in golf carts (besides the coolness factor)?

Think about how much a dog loves riding in a regular car with their head sticking out the window.

They do that because by sticking their heads out, their very powerful smell senses are stimulated by the many, many scents rapidly passing by.

It's all new smells every second!

So, in an open-air vehicle like a golf cart, that's like having your head out the window the entire time.

It is truly a dog's dream!

Dogs also love the adventure a car ride represents, so think about all the adventure a golf cart in a beach town presents.

It's too much fun for Lady!

Pups also like car rides because they enjoy being with their families. They don't want to miss out on anything.

Lady, the Dachshund, is her mother's constant companion (except for a few trips a year), so she would definitely want to be a part of any fun golf cart ride!

It should also be noted that Lady is safely secured in the golf cart in a special dog car seat meant just for golf carts.

Meet the Real-Life Garfield: This Enormous Orange Cat Has People Absolutely Losing It

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 5:20pm

Garfield is arguably one of the most iconic fictional characters to ever exist, and it's largely because of his insatiable appetite for lasagna, chilling out in front of the TV, and giving thicker felines someone they can relate to. Now, there's a new plus-size Orange Cat in town, and she's beautifully large in all the best ways.

Gaining a few pounds isn't that big of a deal for a grown human, but for cats, it can interfere with daily mobility. As Hill's Pet explains, managing a cat's weight doesn't have to be difficult or intimidating. With a few tweaks, your kitty will be back within a healthy weight range in no time.

There are plenty of online tools to help calculate food portions, but make sure there aren't any underlying medical issues first. These tools can help you establish a target weight and daily calorie goals, and they can also suggest the right brand of food for your kitty.

Slower weight loss is better than fast. A good goal is 1% to 2% of their body weight a week. If they lose weight too quickly, they can develop hepatic lipidosis, so again, consult with a vet. Other weight loss tips for your fur baby include:

  • Eliminate free-feeding and offer only scheduled meals.
  • Increase physical activity.
  • Manage treats.
  • Try puzzles to make them work for their food.
  • Add wet food to help them feel full longer.

Pumpkin is an adorable plus-size girl whom we love no matter her size. But now that she's on a health journey, we can't wait to see how much better she feels a few months from now. You can do it, Pumpkin!

Blue Jay Following Big Savannah Cat Home Could Be a Children’s Book

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 5:00pm

Savannah cats feel like one of those pets you absolutely should not have in your home. They look like they belong, as their name might suggest, on the Savannah. However, they're not only safe to have in your home, but a whole lot of fun!

One cat mom has a whole gaggle of cats, including mostly Maine Coons and one Savannah cat. When she took the savannah for a walk recently, though, she almost came home with a new Blue Jay sibling for them all:

@wildmane_mainecoons

It’s also so unlike Rambo to not react to birds flying #catsoftiktok #savannahcat #catlovers #funnycat #f1savannah

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoons

Wild Mane Maine Coon Cattery is home to some of the most beautiful cats ever. They specialize in Maine Coons: Rambo, the Savannah cat in this video, is just a bonus boy. He fits in very nicely with his siblings, since they're all super energetic! Their mom must be so tired.

Rambo is a great big brother, and he's an awesome uncle to all of the kittens who pass through the cattery on the way to their forever homes. Since he doesn't actually have any kittens of his own, he has no responsibilities and therefore gets to go on walks.

Related: Huge Savannah Cat Looks Like a Cute House Cheetah—Then His Maine Coon Brother Shows Up

On this walk, a Blue Jay decided to follow him home. His mom was super intrigued: this has never happened before. Rambo also stayed quiet about it, which has also never happened before! He's a noisy boy:

@wildmane_mainecoons

He’ll play the cat influencer part just fine but that doesn’t mean it won’t come with lots of complaints 🤣 #savannahcat #catsoftiktok #funnycat #f1savannah #catlovers

Something about this Blue Jay just sat right with him, apparently. It quietly followed him, and he watched. Next up, I bet the bird will be pecking at the window to get his attention again!

Blue Jays Are Super Curious

If you ever have the opportunity to get up close to a Blue Jay, you are so insanely lucky! These birds can be hard to come by in certain areas, but they're absolutely breathtaking.

Tony Quinn / 500px / Getty Images

Blue Jays can be found mostly in the Eastern and Central United States. There are lookalike species out west, but true Blue Jays won't be found far west of the Rocky Mountains. These birds are:

  • Curious.
  • Intelligent.
  • Nosey.
  • Always on the lookout.

Don't be surprised if a Blue Jay seems to be watching you the whole time you're walking past. They might even follow you, especially if you're carrying a big cat they've never seen before!

Orange Cat Raises Baby Raccoon With Her Kittens—and He Fits Right In

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 4:00pm

Cats get a lot of hate. I have three dogs, but if I could, I would have just as many cats! They're amazing, caring, and loving companions, just like dogs. Unfortunately, I have a dog door, and I'm just not comfortable with my cats going outside like that.

Luckily, there's no shortage of cat videos in the world to help me curb my cravings. Just look at this one! When a postpartum orange cat was grooming her kittens, her mom noticed that something looked a little bit off... And, as it turns out, it was a baby raccoon:

@kit_katkoon

She loves every one of her babies the same! #babyraccoon #petsoftiktok #orangecatbehavior #catsoftiktok #mynameis

♬ son original - LePtitMilo

It legitimately took me three watches the first time to pick out which one was Kit Kat the Baby Raccoon. I had to go to the comments. She blends in way too well! Mama's name is Mango, and she didn't just come home with a baby Raccoon one day: her mom actually brought her home.

Mango was freshly postpartum when the Universal Raccoon Distribution found her mom, and she figured that Mango had more than enough love to go around. She decided to put the baby Raccoon in with the kittens and see what happened.

Related: Grey Maine Coon Gives Birth to a Rainbow of Tiny Kittens—and Each Is Cuter Than the Last

Her gamble paid off, because Mango took in the baby immediately. She's raising the kit (that's what baby Raccoons are called!) as if she's her own baby. The little Raccoon even tries to nurse sometimes, and she fits right in:

@kit_katkoon

Living her best life. Sound on to hear Kitkat chirp and mama purr 😻 #raccoonrescue #kitkatkoon #raccoonsoftiktok #orangecatsarethebest #babyraccoon

♬ original sound - kit_katkoon

You can even hear her chirping! This is the sweetest thing ever. KitKat is also getting bottle-fed by her human caretaker, so she gets all of the nutrients she needs, but she spends most of her time with Mango and her "siblings."

Can Cats Raise Other Babies?

It's not typical for cats to raise baby Raccoons, though it does happen from time to time. One of the best ways to make sure orphaned baby animals are cared for is by putting them with surrogate families.

FotoEvans / Getty Images

Obviously, the best is to find a surrogate family of the same species, but it's not technically necessary. As long as you're making sure they're getting the proper nutrients, a baby animal being raised by another species is totally fine for:

  • Temperature regulation.
  • Socialization.
  • Companionship.

As for the Raccoon of it all, keeping a Raccoon as a pet is not impossible. Mango's mom hasn't said exactly what her plans are for KitKat as she ages, but I hope she at least gets to stay for a while!

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you're looking for an inexpensive way to attract woodpeckers and other wild birds to your backyard, you should check out this Amazon deal. The More Birds Double Suet Cake Feeder with Weather Guard is only $14 on Amazon. It's marked as an "Amazon's Choice" item due to its popularity and great reviews.

This feeder holds two suet cakes in separate cages. Suet cakes are high energy blocks of bird food mixed into a cake that birds adore. This is designed to attract woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees and more.

The feeder has a weather guard roof with a durable powder-coated steel construction to help keep the cakes dry in rain or snow. It also has a cage grid with spacing designed for clinging birds like titmouses and nuthatches.

One buyer raves about the feeder: "Really cute, easy to open, solid construction, no assembly required."

Get Suet to Go With Your Feeder

You'll also want some suet cakes to go with the feeder. I know from personal experience that C&S Suet Cakes are great in the summer because they don't melt. You might want to try the C&S Woodpecker Suet Treat if you're wanting woodpeckers specifically (an 8 pack is $18.)

My personal recommendation is the C&S Suet Variety Pack — a 24 pack for $40 that comes with Peanut Delight and Berry Treat flavors. Since I started using both of these flavors in my suet feeders, I've attracted woodpeckers for the first time and a variety of other species as well. They love it!

Spotted in store by @costcochika, who promptly shared the news online, the Baby Trend Navigator Plus 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon normally retails for $300, but you can currently find it on the Costco site for $220 or in-store for just $200. Backed by an easy-to-use design and a variety of convenient features, this is not your average baby stroller—it's essentially a high-tech carriage that any good boy or girl would be more than happy to settle into.

As for the features that make it great for small pets, the wagon includes two handles: a push handle with a parent tray, two cupholders and center console storage, plus a pull handle that tucks away when not in use. It also offers dual independent, adjustable canopies with UPF 50+ sun protection that can be removed when not in use.

Down below, the wagon rides on eight-inch front wheels and 11-inch rear wheels for a smooth ride across all surfaces, keeping your fur babies cozy as they sit up and peek over the sides at the world around them. Inside, a spacious cargo area offers built-in seating for two, along with a Seat2Mat accessory that includes a three-point safety harness to keep little ones secure and can also be repurposed for pets if needed.

Rounding out the convenient features, the cargo area also includes a flip-over basket for added storage that can be attached to the front or rear of the wagon, along with a child snack tray with two cupholders. Basically, whether you're a pet parent or a human parent, this versatile wagon is designed for comfort, security and ease of use, all wrapped in a large, heavy-duty, travel-friendly frame.

"I need this," one fan wrote in response to @costcochika's post. "I want it too," another added while taking a pause, "...for my Frenchies."

On the Costco site, parents wasted no time leaving their own rave reviews. And while most are focused on its convenience for children, the sentiment translates perfectly to pet parents as well.

"This stroller wagon has been a game changer," one parent wrote. "There is plenty of space for a toddler with toys, stuffies, blankets, etc. While traveling to a location, the wagon is functional for transporting my son while also carrying my stuff without becoming a pack mule."

With an 110-pound weight limit and room for two children 6 months and older, snagging this wagon for your pups feels like a no-brainer. Not only that, it's an easy way to bring your fur babies along while giving them a break from walks and the sun when they need it. Even better, it can also be a great fit for senior dogs who still enjoy getting outside, offering a more comfortable way to enjoy the world without stressing them out.

Snag one now while the price is still hot, and while you're at it, keep an eye out for Costco's cozy outdoor pet cot and stylish cat scratcher pedestal for more must-have pet essentials.

'Rare Dog Breeds' Are Finding Homes Thanks to This Remarkable Michigan Shelter

Sat, 06/06/2026 - 11:48am

When an animal shelter joked that it was home to some of the world's "rarest breeds," people couldn't stop watching.

Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac, Mich., recently shared a playful video on Reddit's r/aww, introducing several adoptable dogs with hilariously creative breed descriptions.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

The joke, of course, was that many shelter dogs don't come with official paperwork or fancy pedigrees. But they all have a rare personality and a love for the right person who will bring them home.

You can find the rarest dog breeds at your local shelter 💙
by u/MARLeague in aww The Truth About 'Rare Dogs'

The comments section quickly turned into a celebration of shelter pets.

No two shelter dogs are exactly alike. Some resemble popular breeds. Others look like a delightful mix of different dogs rolled into one. But that is the charm.

One commenter perfectly summed up the video, saying, "All rare, one-of-a-kind purebreds." Another person added, "The super normal orange dog is totally my vibe!"

Meet the 'Rarest' Breeds in Michigan

In the video, a staff member at the Michigan Animal Rescue League introduces the shelter's very special residents.

Fox is a California 4K terrier. Kaya is a middle management people pleaser. Mr. Mime is an anthropomorphic psychic type. Daffodil is a proletarian lounge hound. Honey is a Mongolian ham hock. Pippin is a high-quality local man. Bosco is the Cleveland brown dog. Champ is a cinnamon toast pup.

Related: Dad Discovers His Adorable Shelter Jack Russell Terrier Is Actually a Surprising Mix

The Ones That Broke the Comments Section

Judging by the comments section, two pets were the stars of Michigan Animal Rescue League. The first one is Lorax. As the staff member explained, he is a Lorax.

And then there is Koa, listed in the video as a super normal orange dog. Koa is a cat.

Shelter Dogs Have a Way of Surprising People

Many pet parents who adopt shelter pets discover personalities they never expected. As one person in the comments said, "Got both my weirdos from shelters, it's like a grab bag of mutts. Sif here is a pomsky retriever mix and is scared of everything, but the golden retriever half makes her a love bug."

Those little quirks of shelter dogs often become the traits we cherish the most.

Every Dog Deserves a Chance at a Forever Home

One commenter said, "Shelter dogs are the best." Hard to argue with that. Behind the humor, the Michigan shelter delivered a simple yet powerful message.

Dogs waiting in shelters are not competing in a show. Sometimes, the perfect dog is the one you weren't looking for. Most importantly, it reminded us of a truth many adopters know. Every shelter dog is rare in the one way that matters most. There's only one of them.

Another fan echoed the sentiment, calling the black paw-print design "so cute" and noting that after buying one as a gift for a friend, "the recipient loved it." They also praised the blocks "nice soft color,” which definitely makes styling it around the house even easier.

As for care and durability are concerned, the block is made from a durable MDF material, but it is not treated for outdoor use, so stick to styling it indoors to ensure a long lifetime. With Father’s Day coming up, it could end up being a hot ticket item with such an affordable price and adorable design.
