Abandoned Puppy With Brain Damage Is 'Not Giving Up' on Learning to Walk

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 6:10pm

Puppies are known for their irresistible cuteness and charm, yet these fur babies are also incredibly fearless and resilient. They navigate life's challenges with unbridled curiosity, which often turns into courage and determination.

Niall Harbison works with puppies living on the street through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. He recently saved Rocket, an adorable black-and-white puppy with a severe neurological disorder who is committed to getting well.

View this post on Instagram

In the Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo, a Happy Doggo staff member gently played with Rocket as the precious puppy tried his best to stand up. The caption gave some background information on Rocket's condition.

"Five days ago, this tiny 2-month-old puppy arrived at Happy Doggo," the caption shared. "When he was born, his mom accidentally lay on him, causing neurological damage that left him unable to walk, balance, or even hold his head up on his own."

A local resident found the puppy and tried to nurse him back to health, finally calling in Harbison when he realized the extent of Rocket's condition. Harbison's medical team gave the canine cutie a full evaluation and is determining an optimal treatment plan going forward.

Rocket Is Getting Lots of Love and Support

The neurological damage Rocket is dealing with makes basic movement a challenge, but the fearless fur baby is fighting to heal, and Harbison's team is right by his side.

"The world is a bit wobbly, but he’s not giving up," the caption noted. "Our team sits with him, gently helping him stand, building up his muscle memory, and catching him when he falls. It’s a long road ahead, but we are determined to give Rocket the absolute best chance at life."

In the video, both Rocket and the Happy Doggo staffer were undeterred at the pup's shakiness and kept working to build the pup's strength.

"It's going to take a lot of practice and a lot of falls, but we are right here with him," the onscreen text read as the Happy Doggo team member patiently assisted the puppy in some mild physical therapy. "Come on, Rocket, you can do this."

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina, and a retirement village for senior dogs.

Dad Discovers His Adorable Shelter Jack Russell Terrier Is Actually a Surprising Mix

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 5:48pm

For years, Holly's family thought they knew exactly what kind of dog they had adopted. The shelter told them she was a Jack Russell mix.

And from day one, Holly had that terrier energy, chaotic zoomies, strong opinions about everything, and the look that said she was always three seconds ahead. It made complete sense.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Then the family ran a DNA test, and the results, posted on r/DoggyDNA, showed zero Jack Russell.

The Unexpected Genetic Breakdown

After adopting Holly, her family assumed she was some combination of Jack Russell terrier and pit bull.

Eventually, they decided to run a DNA test.

The results came back with a completely different story:

  • 33.9 percent American pit bull terrier
  • 22.5 percent boxer
  • 16.2 percent beagle
  • 14.8 percent supermutt
  • 6.8 percent Rottweiler
  • 5.8 percent Yorkshire terrier

Even the supermutt category consisted of Labrador retriever, Pekingese, and bichon frise. Not a trace of Jack Russell terrier. Holly's dad joked that despite the genetics, she still has enough chaotic energy to earn the nickname "Crack Russell."

The Internet Immediately Had Thoughts

Dog parents in the Reddit community were quick to weigh in, with many successfully guessing the pit bull part. One commenter said, "I had pit and beagle. And she is a terrier, after all."

Then there were the funny responses from users, including, "I expected something smaller too, I guess the beagle and Yorkie are really pulling their weight haha."

For some reason, shelters often assume that small, energetic dogs are always Jack Russell terrier mixes. One fan noted it, saying, "Another day on this sub, another small, energetic, white and brown dog revealed to be a pit mix with no JRT."

Why Do Shelters Get Breed Identification Wrong

Shelter breed identification is often more educated guesswork than science. Most mixed-breed dogs inherit physical traits from multiple ancestors. One dog may have the ears of a Beagle, the body shape of a Boxer, and the energy level of a Terrier.

Staff members rarely receive genetic feedback on the dogs they get, and identifying animals by physical appearance alone is highly inaccurate.

Most people focus on the traits they recognize easily. The challenge is that those traits are often misleading.

There is Another Reason Why Breed Labels Get Complicated

We also have to take a look at the practical challenge. Certain breeds carry stereotypes that can affect adoption rates, insurance policies, housing restrictions and perception.

That is a reason why some shelters avoid labeling dogs as pit bull mixes unless they are absolutely certain.

Embracing the Chaotic Energy

For most families, the label or the breed doesn't matter. You love the dog in front of you, not the label on the paperwork.

There are practical reasons to know the breed, mostly due to training. For example, dogs with strong beagle genetics will be nose-driven, which will change how they respond to training.

The good news is Holly has a drive that her family loves. That is the best proof that labels matter far less than individual personality.

Freshly Rescued German Shepherd Makes Her Feelings About Bath Time Crystal Clear

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 12:48pm

Juniper had barely settled into her new home when the betrayal happened. Her new dad decided it was time for a bath.

Specifically, what he jokingly called a "wash-the-shelter-stank-off bath." Bringing a rescue dog home often involves an immediate bath to clear away shelter grime.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Yet, for this German shepherd, her first-day milestone turned into an absolute standoff. Her new dad attempted to wash away the shelter smell, but what we see is a dramatic display of canine disapproval.

Her dad posted the image of the skeptical, damp dog on r/germanshepherds, and it resonated with thousands of parents who have faced the exact same bathroom battle.

Why Do Dogs Hate Baths

You might think that dogs do not like getting wet. But a German shepherd will walk through a muddy puddle without hesitation and consider a swim a genuine highlight of the day.

Hating baths has nothing to do with water, and everything to do with control. When a dog swims, it is a choice. They can exit whenever they want.

A bath is the opposite: a confined space, a slippery surface, an unfamiliar temperature, running water that sounds like nothing in the dog's natural experience, and no exit route. Put them all together, and it will trigger survival instincts in dogs as if they were being cornered.

Rescue Dogs Suffer Even More

Juniper arrived in a whole new world for her. Every smell, sound, routine, and social relationship in her life had changed in a single day. Then came the tub.

Many newly adopted dogs behave exactly the same way. They need time to settle. Rescue organizations often talk about the 3-3-3 rule.

The first three days are when everything feels overwhelming for dogs. They appear anxious, withdrawn, and uncertain. Some even eat less than normal. This happened to Juniper as well.

During the first three weeks, dogs begin learning routines and get a feel for the new environment. They start showing their personality, and their confidence slowly grows.

By the third month, rescue dogs begin to feel fully at home. They trust their new parents, get a stable routine and behave like their true selves.

Yet, every dog moves at a different pace. Some might get there faster, some longer.

Juniper's Support Group Has Her Back

The post resonated with pet lovers, with many supporting Juniper and her new home. One commenter couldn't help but laugh, saying, "omg that poor thing. she's being tortured with love and care."

Another offered encouragement, "You got this Juniper!" And one wished her happiness in her new home, saying, "You're in a swimsuit. She just doesn't know yet how good she's got it now."

The Best Part is Ahead

Right now, in Juniper's mind, baths are suspicious, cats are unpredictable, and humans should never leave her sight.

Her new dad revealed in the comments how her life is going, saying, “She is rarely finishing her meals because CAT! (Is watching her from 20' away ready to apply another beatdown) or WHERE DID YOU GO? (around the corner and thus out of sight) or WHATCHA DOIN'? (Dishes/making the bed/that sort of thing) or…you get the idea."

But a few months from now, things will look different. She is taking the first steps. Judging by the support she gets online, people are rooting for her!

Target's Cutesy New Dog Raincoat Is Perfect for Rainy Summer Days

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 10:55am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Being a pet parent comes with plenty of fun, unexpected, and sometimes hilarious moments. One of the things I enjoy most is watching my fur baby grow and discovering how his personality and preferences change over time. As they get older, you start to notice little quirks that make them unique.

My dog, Gambit, is a 3-year-old giant schnauzer, and over the years he has become incredibly selective about certain things. One of the biggest examples is his bathroom routine. Gambit is very particular about where and when he chooses to go outside. If it's raining, there's a good chance he's not interested in stepping outside unless he's wearing his rain jacket. Otherwise, he'll often wait patiently until the rain passes before even considering it.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

What makes this so funny is that he has no problem playing in the rain. He'll run around, chase toys, and enjoy himself without hesitation when he's in the mood for outdoor fun. Yet when it comes to using the bathroom, suddenly the rain becomes a major inconvenience. I've never fully understood the logic behind it, but I guess that's part of what makes dogs so entertaining.

Another feature many shoppers appreciate is its machine-washable design. Anyone who owns a large dog knows how quickly muddy paws and wet weather can turn into extra cleanup around the house. Having dog apparel that can be easily cleaned adds convenience while helping keep pets dry during rainy outings.

The growing popularity of dog rain gear reflects a larger trend within the pet industry. Pet owners continue investing in products that improve comfort, safety, and convenience for their furry family members. From rainy-day walks to quick potty breaks, practical pet apparel has become an important category for many households.

For dogs like Gambit, having the right gear can make all the difference between refusing to step outside and confidently taking on whatever Mother Nature brings.

This Adorable Dancing Dog Just Earned the Ultimate 'America's Got Talent' Golden Buzzer

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 10:48am

The dancers walked out in red, and the crowd was already into it. Clean formations, high energy, the kind of choreography that shows a group that has been training for years. It looked like a confident acrobatics crew ready to impress. Then the dogs ran out, and the whole thing changed.

What started as a talented dance crew audition on America's Got Talent suddenly transformed into something else entirely. Within moments, the audience was cheering, the judges were grinning, and four-legged performers had become the biggest star on the stage.

The Moment Everything Changed

Acro Canine Crew is an all-female troupe from Edmonton, Canada. They were one of the biggest and best surprises of the America's Got Talent season 21 premiere. Performing to a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere," the choreography was impressive on its own.

Yet, the moment the dogs entered the routine, moving through the formations rather than just being alongside them, the act became even more impressive.

Six dogs of all sizes joined the performance, leaping, spinning and weaving through the formation with genuine chemistry. The audience lost it, judge Sofia Vergara shot out of her chair, and by the time the music stopped, the entire panel was on its feet.

The dogs became the act, and the humans were the backup. Afterward, Vergara said, "This is my two favorite acts: dancing and dog acts. Together? I really wasn't expecting this. It was too much for me."

Before she could even reach the button, host Terry Crews sprinted from backstage and pressed the Golden Buzzer himself. "I have never seen anything like this in my life," he said.

Fans Loved It as Well

Trae Patton / NBC

The YouTube comments captured exactly why the act landed the way it did. One person said, "The dogs were completely unexpected. That was amazing and phenomenal."

Another added, "I don't normally like dog acts, but this was WOW, amazing. This was absolute world class."

And then, one said what we all thought, "I love how they started off as a normal group, but once the dogs came out, it was taken to a whole new level. The way they involved both of each other throughout the act was just mesmerizing."

As one commenter said, "It's a woof woof, and a golden buzzer, from me."

Long History of Dogs Winning Over AGT Audiences

America's Got Talent fans know all too well: never underestimate a great dog act. Back in season 7, the Olate Dogs became the first animal act to win the competition. The routine included dogs riding scooters, jumping rope and pulling off seemingly unreal stunts.

Years later, dog trainer Sara Carson and her border collie finished in fifth place. Yet, their creative routines made them fan favorites.

Years later, another border collie, Hurricane, and his trainer, Adrian Stoica, won season 18. They became only the second dog act to win the crown.

The success proves that people are not just watching the humans. They are watching the relationship. Acro Crew has the chemistry to bring them the crown. Let's wait and see how they do!

Bernese Mountain Puppy Has One Sweet Request for Mom, and It's Melting Hearts

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 10:10am

Puppies are completely irresistible to anyone who crosses their path. Those fluffy coats, round bellies, paws too big for their bodies, and insatiable curiosity, all wrapped up in a sweet ball of floof, are just over-the-top adorable.

As cute as these pups are, their moms have days when they need a break. This Bernese Mountain Puppy wanted some extra kisses from his mom and despite his undeniable charm, she needed her own timeout.

View this post on Instagram

In the Instagram video from @miss_maya_thebernese, the precious puppy and his mom were outside facing each other and enjoying some fresh air. The fur baby gazed adoringly at his mother and jumped on her, giving her kisses in the process and hoping for some in return.

The pup's mom was patient but kept turning her head, apparently not in the mood to give affection. Yet the persistent puppy would not be deterred. He repeatedly lobbied for a kiss as his mother clearly communicated she needed some space. The tiny pooch was oblivious to his mom's body language, making the scene both endearing and hilarious.

Followers raved over the sweet interaction and pointed out the pup's tenacity.

"Such a gorgeous breed... that pup wants mom's attention!" one pointed out.

"Mom is taking a break but still allows a kiss," another remarked.

"My heart," a follower gushed.

"He wants some loving, mama, and wants attention," someone noted.

How Puppies Ask for Attention

Attention-seeking behavior from puppies is normal. After leaving their mom for a forever home, puppies need their new parents to help them mature and acclimate to their environment.

Some of these behaviors include whining, barking, scratching, nibbling, jumping on you, staying close to you, and following you from room to room. While these actions are common in a puppy's development, it's important to foster your pup's confidence and independence as they grow.

Related: 'Gentlest' Shelter Mama Dog Raised 7 Puppies — Now She Wants Someone to Choose Her

Training, positive reinforcement, and maintaining consistent boundaries help to build your puppy's sense of security. Daily physical exercise and mental stimulation also prevent your fur baby from developing negative behaviors out of boredom or frustration.

Once this Bernese Mountain Mom gets some much-needed "me" time, she'll most likely cover her canine cutie with lots of cuddles.

These 2 Cute Cardinals Are Acting Like They're on Their First Date

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 9:55am

There are romantic dinners, there are sweet little love notes, and then there are two Cardinals at a feeder, making the rest of us look emotionally unavailable.

In the video, the homeowner films from inside the house, watching a pair of Cardinals who clearly have history. This isn't some random backyard meetup. These two seem familiar, comfortable, and very much like regular visitors with their own routine. The woman filming knows them as Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal, which makes the whole thing feel like a neighborhood love story happening right outside her window.

@itstaylorvanessa

I love birds sm 🥹 #birdsoftiktok #birdlovers #cutebirds #birdwatching #birdfeeder

♬ awww so cute - Cherri ⁉️

Even though they give off old-married-couple vibes, they're acting like teenagers who just discovered what flirting is. The male Cardinal is perched on a feeder close to the window, carefully feeding the female seeds like this is the fanciest restaurant in town, and he made reservations three weeks ago. The female accepts the seeds with the confidence of someone who knows how adored she is.

It's almost too sweet to watch. Almost. (I live for stories like this.)

There's something about birds, or any animal for that matter, doing romantic things that absolutely sends people and me. Mostly me. One minute, you're a normal adult with responsibilities. The next, you're staring at Cardinal personally curating a menu for the love of his life.

He doesn’t just grab whatever seeds are closest; he chooses what to offer her. And he looks like a tiny red husband making sure he finds her favorites, and it’s destroying me. If he really knows her favorite seeds, that’s not just bird behavior—that’s marriage counseling for the rest of us!

The caption says the person filming loves birds so much, and this clip explains exactly why. Birds really can be funny, dramatic, bossy, tender, and oddly human in the best ways. They don't need a script. They just show up at a feeder, share snacks, and accidentally create the softest romantic comedy of the day.

I love this video. It feels like we're all quietly spying on a private date, trying not to breathe too loudly while Mr. Cardinal does his little routine. No swelling music needed, just two bright birds and a moment so wonderful and pure it makes your chest hurt a little.

I already think Cardinals look like they were designed by someone with a flair for the dramatic. Add in whatever this sweet moment is, and suddenly, they're not just some simple backyard birds. They're main characters in a tiny love story clearly sent here to break my heart.

Have they been together for years? Maybe this is their regular snack routine. Whatever the case, these two are giving first-date butterflies with long-term commitment energy, and the internet is right to be emotionally unstable about it.

Do Cardinals Mate for Life?

Not shockingly, Cardinals are often seen in pairs, and sweet moments like this are part of what makes people love watching them so much. A feeder near a window can turn any ordinary backyard into a tiny bird soap opera.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology notes that Northern Cardinals often eat seeds and fruit, and males may feed females during courtship. Cardinals can form strong pair bonds, though not every pair stays together for life. Still, when Mr. Cardinal is sorting through seeds for Mrs. Cardinal like he knows her exact order, it's very hard not to believe in love.

Flowers are nice, but showing up with snacks is elite romance.

Hobby Lobby's Adorable $8 Stoneware Paw Print Bowl Has Pet Parents Rushing to Grab It

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 9:55am

As a dog dad, I'm always on the lookout for new accessories and toys for my pups. While there are plenty of pet products on the market, it isn't always easy to find items that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing enough to fit seamlessly into your home. Many pet products prioritize practicality over style, leaving pet parents with limited options for creating a space that looks good while still catering to their furry companions.

That's why whenever I come across something that offers great value, looks good, and doesn't break the bank, I don't hesitate to grab it. Just because our pets are animals doesn't mean they shouldn't get to enjoy some of the finer things in life as well. After all, they are cherished members of the family and deserve comfort, quality, and a little bit of luxury, too.

I'm certainly not alone. There's a growing appreciation for thoughtfully designed pet accessories that complement modern homes while meeting the needs of our four-legged friends. From stylish pet beds to attractive feeding and water bowls, having the right accessories can make a big difference in both your pet's comfort and the overall look of your living space.

One item catching attention among pet owners is the Rosie and Rex Paw Print Stoneware Pet Dish. Priced at just $7.99, this feeding bowl offers a simple yet classic design that fits easily into a variety of home styles. Featuring a clean white finish and subtle paw print details, it delivers a timeless look that feels much more elevated than traditional plastic pet bowls.

Constructed from durable stoneware, the dish is designed to handle everyday feeding while providing a sturdy base that helps reduce movement during mealtime. The large size measures 2.75 inches high by seven inches wide and seven inches deep, offering a generous 42-ounce capacity. That makes it a practical choice for both food and water, especially for medium to larger dogs or households looking to minimize constant refills throughout the day.

Another reason pet owners are gravitating toward stoneware is its substantial feel and durability. Unlike lightweight alternatives, stoneware tends to stay in place better, helping create a cleaner feeding area. The neutral white color also blends effortlessly into modern, farmhouse, minimalist, and traditional decor styles.

As with any pet feeding accessory, proper care is important. The dish is designated for pet use only, is food-safe, should be hand-washed, and is not microwave-safe. Those simple care instructions help preserve its appearance and functionality over time.

As pet ownership continues evolving, consumers are increasingly seeking products that balance affordability, style and everyday usefulness. For under $10, this stoneware pet dish delivers all three, making it an appealing option for pet parents looking to upgrade their furry friend's feeding station without stretching their budget.

After Years in a Lab, This Rescue Beagle Finally Showed His Foster Mom His Real Personality

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 9:20am

In early May 2026, the Beagle Freedom Project rescued more than 1,500 lab Beagles from a Wisconsin breeding facility. Thanks to the valiant efforts of shelters, rescues, fosters, animal rights organizations, and adoptive pet parents, these precious pups, like a sweet boy named Daffy, are getting the second chance they deserve.

In May, longtime foster mom, Emilie, took a terrified Daffy into her home. Coping with life outside his lab cage meant Daffy developed severe separation anxiety, leaving him to spin in circles and tremble with fear anytime Emilie left him alone.

Two weeks in, Daffy started letting his guard down enough to enjoy cuddles, play with the cat, and show off his "goofy" personality—something all dogs deserve to do. In the video, he's having the time of his life with, of all things, a blanket. Sometimes it's the simple things that bring the most joy!

Related: Beagle and Kitten's Growing Love Story Is Truly One for the Ages

It's now been almost a month, and the precious Beagle has made amazing progress. He learned new routines, the joy of going on walks, and what it means to trust humans. Since the first post, Daffy made his way into a foster-to-adopt home where he's the center of attention and can learn to love and be loved.

This is a best-case scenario, so he can work on his separation anxiety and continue building on all he experienced with Emilie. After all he's been through, it'll take time and consistency before Daffy feels truly safe. But he's well on his way to having everything he should've had from the start.

Unfortunately, Daffy's story of being a dog bred for laboratory testing is one of many. While the release of 1,500 Beagles from Ridglan Farms is a tremendous success, there are many more who still need a hero.

With the relentless advocacy of animal rights organizations like the Beagle Freedom Project, these pups are finding their way out of a facility and into loving homes where they're learning what it means to be more than a test subject. As the #1 dog breed for families with children, these Beagles will make the best companions for those willing to take the chance.

There are several ways to help dogs like Daffy thrive in their new lives.

  • Donating to rescue Beagles' care
  • Volunteering to foster a pup from one of the many partner organizations
  • Adopting a Beagle like Daffy

Daffy getting his happy ending is incredible, but all the others rescued need your help. For more information on how to get involved, check out the Beagle Freedom Project and help save a life.

Melanie Ann caught this shot of the Big Bear Eagles from the livestream cam: she was looking at the right time! Luckily, none of the babies or their mama, whose name is Jackie, were hurt. She definitely did a little bit of damage to the nest itself, though.

You can see that she at least loosened up a twig, because she looks around and then tucks it back into place as if nothing happened. Everyone gets her: falling down is not uncommon, and there's nothing to be ashamed of, but it's still embarrassing!

Related: This Mama Bald Eagle’s Dedication to Her Babies Is Melting Hearts

This nest might not look like it's full of baby Bald Eagles, because they're all huge, but those are indeed the babies! You can tell because of their coloring, but even as babies, their wingspans are super impressive:

@melanie_ann08

Idk why this song came to mind watching Sandy practice wingers! 😂😂 #jackieandshadow #bigbear #Sandy #Luna #eagles

♬ original sound - Way Back Play Backs - Way Back Play Backs

Bald Eagles reach their full size pretty soon after they hatch, but their adult coloring takes a few years to develop. They're going to grow up to be so beautiful, though hopefully they learn a thing or two about how to stick a landing!

Big Birds Crash-Land Often

It's pretty easy for a dainty little songbird to fly around and land without issue. Smaller birds typically don't have any problems with crash-landing, but bigger birds, like Bald Eagles, can have more trouble.

Posnov / Getty Images

Bigger birds can fly faster than smaller ones: they have more momentum. While that means they can get from Point A to Point B quickly, which is great for a predatory bird, it also means they have a harder time stopping sometimes. While a clumsy landing is completely normal, there are some landings that might mean the bird is hurt:

  • If they "fall" rather than land.
  • If they crash into their destination instead of onto it.
  • If they land and seem wobbly or visibly disoriented.

If you do think a bird is hurt, especially if it's a big, protected species like a Bald Eagle, do not touch it. Contact the closest wildlife center immediately!

Chihuahua Goes Viral Refusing to Nap After Seeing a Suitcase—He's Not Being Left Behind

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 8:30am

There’s a special little Chihuahua, named Franklin, who refuses to sleep when the suitcases come out. His mom just wants her little guy to know that he was never going to be left behind. Ever. Period.

The TikTok from @stacychermol comes with a caption that says everything: "🚨Rare footage of Franklin being this quiet 🚨"

Rare because Franklin, Frankles to his people, is not typically a quiet dog. He is typically a very vocal dog. In fact, he’s famously loud. A dog whose volume settings appear to start at medium-high and go up from there.

But then the suitcase appeared and Franklin’s entire demeanor changed.

@stacychermol

🚨Rare footage of Franklin being this quiet 🚨 #sleepybaby #wherewegoing #chihuahua #dogsoftiktok #tinydog

♬ original sound - Stacy&Franklin 🐶💅

The video shows Frankles sitting on his small shell pillow watching his mom pack. He is tiny. Long-haired. Black and brown and white with his head hanging low and his tongue slightly out. He looks like he just came off anesthesia.

He is also absolutely not sleeping.

Eyes wide open. Body tense. He will not be tricked into sleeping when there is a suitcase situation unfolding right in front of him. He will not be left behind.

His mom spots him watching with that look and knows exactly what her little guy is thinking.

"Thinking we'd ever leave you," she says softly in the most perfect dog mom voice.

The answer, warm and unmistakable, is that they’d never dream of it.

Then comes the offer that seals everything: would Frankles like to go to Popeyes for a chicken dinner?

He would. He absolutely would. Let’s go!

The suitcase was never a threat to Frankles. It was an invitation. He just needed someone to let him know.

Related: Nosy Rottweiler ‘Eavesdrops’ on Owls Like He’s Listening for Gossip

The comments immediately got the vibe of the situation:

"That's not a seashell... that's his charger lol"

"My face after doomscrolling until 3AM."

"He's seriously the cutest most interesting little thing."

"The only parasocial relationships I have seem to be with little dogs." Frankles has that effect on people.

But his vigil around that suitcase and mama aren't just adorable. There's a real reason Franklin could not close his eyes.

Why Dogs Know You're Leaving Before You Even Pack

Dogs can read environmental cues with extraordinary precision. Long before you ever zip a bag or say a word, they've already noticed things: a different routine, unfamiliar smells, objects appearing in unexpected places.

Suitcases specifically trigger what's known as pre-departure anxiety in dogs. Unlike a regular everyday bag, a suitcase holds the scent memory of previous trips and extended absences from home. Dogs connect those memories to getting left behind. The result is exactly what Frankles demonstrated: hypervigilance. Staying guard. Refusing to sleep. Staying on high alert because he knows something important might happen and someone needs to be watching.

This kind of anxious monitoring is a dog's way of regaining control when they feel powerless. They can't help pack. They can't check the departure times. The only thing they can do is stay awake and watch.

Keeping the suitcase visible in the house for days before a trip so the novelty wears off can help alleviate some of the anxiety. Keeping normal calm routines while packing can help, so does tucking in a favorite familiar comfort item. But the best solution of all is the simplest: take those fur babies on trips with you.

Popeyes counts.

Franklin was doing everything to keep that suitcase in his sight because he loves his people so much and couldn't bear the thought of being separated from them. That's not anxiety. That's love and devotion.

His mama knew that all along. She just wanted to make sure he knew it too.

There was no chance he was ever being left behind.

He was going for chicken.

This Lost Baby Moose Showed up on a Stranger's Doorstep Looking for His Mama and It's Devastating

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 8:20am

There are certain animals you expect to find standing on your front porch.

A delivery person.

A neighbor.

Maybe a stray cat.

A baby moose searching for his mother isn't typically on the list.

That's exactly what happened to one Alaska resident, and the video has people feeling both concerned and completely heartbroken for the little guy.

@phickok

#alaska life at its best!! #moose #wildlife #babymoose #alaskalife

♬ Sneaky Shenanigans - Solis

Shared on TikTok by @phickok, the surprising encounter has the caption:

"POV: You come home from walking your dog and find a baby moose on your porch! Alaska life at its best."

The clip shows an adorable moose calf standing outside the home, looking uncertain about where to go next.

The creator later added:

"Me, honestly panicking, because where is the mom? The moose really said, ooops, wrong address and walked away."

Related: Baby Bald Eagle Survives Scary Fall From Nest—But Rescuers Faced an Even Bigger Threat

And that's what makes the video so emotional.

The calf doesn't appear aggressive or frightened. He simply looks like a youngster who got separated and is trying to figure out where he's supposed to be.

For anyone who's ever lost sight of a parent in a grocery store as a kid, the feeling is instantly recognizable.

Viewers immediately started imagining what the little moose might have been thinking.

One person joked:

"Good afternoon, I am a Wilderness Explorer in Tribe 54, Sweat Lodge 12. Are you in need of any assistance today?"

Another wrote:

"That's just a really tall puppy!"

Which, admittedly, becomes harder to argue with the longer you watch the video.

The calf's curious, slightly awkward demeanor feels remarkably puppy-like.

Others couldn't help but wish they could experience something this unusual themselves.

"How come this NEVER happens to me? I've been patient!"

And perhaps the funniest comment of all:

"Cat distribution system: extreme."

At that point, the distribution system may have overshot the assignment by several hundred pounds.

Still, it's hard not to feel for the little moose as he wanders away.

Most viewers found themselves asking the same question the creator did:

Where's mom?

Fortunately, moose calves are often left alone temporarily while their mothers forage nearby, though wildlife experts generally recommend giving young wildlife plenty of space and avoiding intervention unless a licensed wildlife professional determines help is needed.

Do Mother Moose Leave Their Babies Alone? @coloradowildadventures

This was a magical moment to witness in the wild. A newborn moose🫎 calf close to mamma.

♬ izvorni zvuk - ❤️JA NE VOLIM RIJECIMA VEC ♥️

Yes. Mother moose sometimes leave their calves in a safe location while they search for food nearby.

Wildlife experts note that young moose may spend short periods alone while their mothers:

• Browse for food

• Investigate their surroundings

• Avoid drawing predators to the calf

• Move through dense habitats

Because of this, finding a young moose alone doesn't automatically mean the animal has been abandoned.

In most situations, experts recommend observing from a distance and avoiding contact with wildlife.

And while the little calf may have had the wrong address, everyone watching was rooting for him to find his way back to the right one. For me, I would have had a very hard time not hugging this little baby!

Grey Maine Coon Gives Birth to a Rainbow of Tiny Kittens—and Each Is Cuter Than the Last

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 8:00am

Maine Coon kittens are so cute, and they're so colorful. Even when they're a "boring" color, these kittens' coats are so rich and luscious that it takes them to another level every single time! When they are super colorful, though, it just gets better.

One grey Maine Coon's coat is fabulous enough... But then she gave birth to kittens. She legitimately has one kitten in every color, and it's so hard to pick which one might be my favorite:

@greekgardenmainecoons

Gaia is an incredible mom to these seven babies, but she gets a little overexcited to show them off when we come hang out with them! #adorable #kittens #clumsy

♬ original sound - GreekGardenMaineCoons

The Greek Garden Maine Coons know a thing or two about kittens. These kittens aren't just gorgeous: they're so loved! Their mom loves them so much that she literally plopped down onto them. Don't worry, though; no one was hurt. They were just happy to be there!

She has an awesome mix of orange, black, grey, and Calico kittens. There are seven of them, and it's hard for her to divide her love and time, but she's made it work so far. Even if she sometimes feels overwhelmed with the love she has for them all.

Related: Stray Cat Brings Her ‘Rainbow Kittens’ to Woman’s House for Dinner

Her name is Gaia, and she's had babies before. Since she had babies with an orange cat this time, though, the litter is a little extra rambunctious. She's definitely feeling that, especially when it's time to eat:

@greekgardenmainecoons

Every orange cat has a villain origin story… and apparently it starts at the milk bar. Of course, coat color doesn’t *actually* determine temperament, but he’s not helping the stereotypes. 😂 #mainecoon #orangecat #kitten

♬ original sound - GreekGardenMaineCoons

I would argue that the Tortie/Calico cat to his left is definitely the one who started it. She shoved him away! When these kittens get bigger, he's definitely going to get his revenge!

How Do Cats Have Different-Colored Kittens?

If you breed two cats together with different coat colors or with a certain recessive gene, you're going to come away with some different-colored kittens. No two will ever look exactly alike!

Image via Shutterstock / Nadia Cruzova

Just like anyone else, kittens inherit 50% of their DNA from each parent, but there's no clear-cut answer to who inherits what, or what genes they receive. For example, you could have a Maine Coon that has:

  • A mix of both parents' fur colors.
  • Mom's fluffy ears.
  • Dad's extra toes (polydactyly).

What coat color a kitten ends up with is completely random: that's why some of Gaia's kittens are completely orange or grey, while others are both colors. You won't know until they're born, and that's what makes them so magical!

This Dalmatian Took One Look at Foster Kittens and Claimed Them as Her Own

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 7:10am

Dogs are known for their compassion and empathy, making them a top pick for therapy and service animals. Canines are instinctually protective of people and animals they see as vulnerable and often step into a supportive role.

When River the Dalmatian first saw the litter of foster kittens staying in her home, she felt compelled to serve as their surrogate mom.

@mywildmeadows

hard to say who’s more excited about this arrangement, River or the fosters 😂 she really is the mom who stepped up! River steals all the foster kittens from me every time, they all are just obsessed with her, it’s so cute to see! #fosterkittens #rescuekittens #graykitten #adoptivemom #dogandcat

♬ evening breeze calm (Acoustic) - Husein

In the TikTok from @mywildmeadows, an entire litter of tiny gray kittens lovingly stared at River in pure adoration. The bond between the Dalmatian and pretty kitties was immediately obvious.

"You can't convince them that's not mom," the onscreen text noted. The video showed various clips of River watching over the kittens, waiting by the door to get in to see them, supervising their feeding, and letting the fur babies lie on her back.

The canine cutie was clearly committed to her maternal role, and the kittens seemed oblivious to the fact that she was a different species. The feline fur babies followed her everywhere and looked to her as their mother.

"Hard to say who’s more excited about this arrangement, River or the fosters," the caption shared. "She really is the mom who stepped up! River steals all the foster kittens from me every time, they all are just obsessed with her, it’s so cute to see!"

Followers gushed over the adorable canine-kitten connection and praised River for her maternal instinct.

"Dog momma is beautiful and that little leap the kitten did by the food bowl was so adorable to me for some reason," one posted.

"The 'hurry up, open the door, my babies are crying' look," another pointed out.

"This needs to be a Disney movie," a fan shared.

"Those are definitely River's babies," someone remarked.

Why Some Dogs Are So Maternal Toward Kittens

Dogs are instinctually wired for nurturing. When they hear those tiny cries of a mewing kitten, their maternal drive kicks into high gear and they transform into a kitty mama. A kitten's delicate appearance, along with their unsure gait and oozing vulnerability, trigger a dog's protective nature and they are prompted to take on a guardian role.

Related: Kitten Born With a Disability Sucks His Thumb for Comfort— and People Are Emotional

This behavior is not limited to kittens. Canines often "adopt" other smaller animals and even human babies and toddlers. Dogs are also known to watch over pregnant women and those they sense are in poor health, serving as a compassionate caretaker.

River is a beautiful example of a canine's capacity for love and empathy, regardless of species.

What Animal Reflects Your Soul, Based on Birth Month

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 5:10am

Have you ever felt a strange connection to a specific animal? In astrology, that may not be random. That feeling may point to what is known as your soul animal. These creatures are typically described as animals you share a deep, meaningful connection with, often reflecting your personality, energy, or inner traits.

When it comes to finding your soul animal, astrologers say there may be a specific creature that mirrors your energy based on your birth month. These specific species can inspire a sense of awe and familiarity, and may even feel like a reflection of who you are.

Since no two birth months are the same, each is associated with different cosmic symbolism influenced by its two zodiac signs. “Animals linked with each month will reflect different astrological energies and personality traits,” according to astrologer Lisa Stardust.

Curious what animal matches your soul? From familiar pets like dogs to more unexpected creatures like cheetahs, discover which one aligns with your birth month based on astrology and numerology. See which one you're connected to below!

The Animal That Mirrors Your Soul, Based on Birth Month

Each birth month is linked to a soul animal, with expert personality insights behind each match.

January: Dog A soul dog that matches with January-born people.

Getty Images Alberto Menendez Cervero

January birth months are a combo of Capricorn and Aquarius energy, both ruled by Saturn, the planet associated with discipline, structure and responsibility. “They both have the planetary ruler of Saturn,” astrologer Lisa Stardust says. “Ths birth month's soul animal is all about responsibility.” Therefore, a dog is a natural symbolic match for January personalities.

Known for their loyality, protection, and strong sense of routine, dogs reflect the steady and dependable traits often linked to this birth month. “They protect us and are loyal,” Stardust says. “They also thrive on routine.” Their need for structure and connection mirrors the grounded energy of Capricorn and the independent yet loyal nature of Aquarius.

February: Fish An instinctive fish that mirros Aquarius and Pisces energy.

Getty Images Humberto Ramirez

People born in February carry both Aquarius and Pisces energy, creating a strong sense of emotional awareness and intuition. “There’s a lot of sensitivity,” astrologer Lisa Stardust says.

Fish are a comic animal match for this month because they are highly instinctive creatures that move through their environment with awareness and adaptability. “They swim away from toxicity,” Stardust explains.

She adds that their ability to navigate emotions and surroundings in a fluid, intuitive way reflects the heightened sensitivity often associated with February personalities influenced by Aquarius and Pisces.

March: Cheetah A powerful soul animal that reflects March's birth month.

Getty Images Mateo Juric

If you were born in March and are wondering, "Which animal matches my birth month best?—the cheetah is often seen as your spirit animal. Astrologers describe March as a powerful transition between the end of one astrological cycle and the start of another, making it a month linked to transformation, renewal, and inner strength.

People born in March are known for embracing their personal power, acting on instinct, and adapting quickly when life shifts. This natural momentum mirrors the cheetah’s energy in the wild.

The cheetah symbolizes speed, focus, and precision. Just like this animal, March-born individuals are often fast decision-makers who trust their intuition and move with purpose rather than hesitation. As Stardust notes, their instinctive nature and ability to act quickly under pressure make the cheetah a fitting representation of their personality traits and life approach.

April: Swan A passionate animal with cosmic strenght.

Getty Images Boy_Anupong

April is when Aries and Taurus both appear. “People born in April are coming from a place of passion into a place of tenderness,” Stardust says. So, what animal captures this birth month's traits and reflects their soul? "She says a “People born in this month connect with an elegant and very graceful animal like the swan." These birds reflects April-born individuals who may appear calm and refine on the surface, but carry inner strength and sensitivity beneath.

May: Parrot A chatty soul animal.

Getty Images Nature's Gifts Captured

May-born individuals are often described as expressive, socially dynamic, and naturally engaging, with a talent for keeping conversations flowing.

“People born in May are very communicative, like a parrot,” Stardust says. “You can always communicate with them, and they will talk back to you.”

The parrot reflects this energy through its symbolism of wit, expression, and social ease, shaped by the blend of Taurus grounding and Gemini curiosity, making it a fitting soul animal for May birthdays.

Related: What Bird Reflects Your Soul, Based on Birth Month

June: Crab A sensitive crab reflecting its June birth month personality.

Getty Images Paul Biris

June sits between Gemini and Cancer energy, creating a personality blend that is both emotionally sensitive and quietly independent. Stardust describes this month as having a tender, sentimental mindset.

“Crabs also walk at their own pace and side to side,” Stardust says. “That speaks to the way that Geminis do things their own way.”

With Cancer ruled by the moon and crabs often emerging at night, the symbolism reflects intuition, emotional depth, and a natural connection to inner feelings. Overall, the crab captures June’s dual nature—soft yet self-directed—representing people who move through life in their own rhythm rather than following a straight path.

July: Lion Lions are both strong and beautiful, like July's birth month.

Getty Images Winfried Wisniewski

July moves from Cancer season to Leo season, blending emotional depth with bold self-expression, making July babies a good match for the lion.

“The lion loves to be in the sun, to embrace the warmth and to be seen,” Stardust says. “It can be ferocious just like both signs in July can be loud when they need to.” This balance of warmth and strength is why the lion fits July so well—they don’t just enter a room, they own it and leave a lasting roar.

August: Cat A bold, yet elegent cat like August-born birth months.

Getty Images Viktoriya Skorikova

August blends the bold, expressive personality of Leo with the grounded, detail-oriented nature of Virgo, creating a shift from high intensity into a more reflective, intentional rhythm. “This birth month is coming from an energetic time to a meditative energy as we wind down from summer,” Stardust says.

That transition is why the cat is a fitting match for August-born individuals. “Cats can be really docile but very playful, too,” Stardust points out.

Cats reflects this duality—independent yet affectionate, calm yet curious—capturing August’s balance between vibrant self-expression and quiet self-awareness.

September: Otter Otters value companionship, like people wth September birth months.

Getty Images Arthur Morris

Virgo and Libra make an appearance in September. “People born in September are soft, social, and a little bit playful—September has a naturally charming energy that leans into connection and companionship. With Virgo and Libra both influencing this month, relationships and emotional bonds take center stage.

“People with September birth months are all about starting and cultivating companionship,” Stardust says. That’s why an otter is a perfect match for this month. “Both of these signs make September babies perfect matches for otters, who mate for life,” she adds.

October: Scorpion A fierce scorpion being held by someone with an October birth month.

Getty Images Sam Spicer

October blends Libra’s charm with Scorpio’s depth, creating a personality that is both warm and quietly powerful. “The Libras that are born in October can be a little more intense, like the Scorpios,” Stardust says. “They can be a little venomous if you try them or throw them off-balance.”

That’s why the scorpion is a fitting match for October-born individuals. It represents emotional strength, loyalty, and strong boundaries—gentle when respected, but fiercely protective when needed.

November: Horse A horse with an adventurous Sagittarius.

Getty Images Daniel Garrido

November is where intense Scorpio energy meets the restless, adventurous spirit of Sagittarius, creating a personalith that’s anything but still. “This birth month has a more philosophical, less introverted energy,” Stardust says. “It’s very intense, like a horse as horses rely on instinct and can move at remarkable speed, much like Sagittarius energy."

That's why November-born people can relate to these stunning animals that are known for drive, intuition and momentum—symbolizing a personality that trusts its inner direction and keeps moving forward without hesitation.

December: Peacock A peacock stands out in a crowd like December birth months.

Getty Images JOY PAN

December closes the year with a mix of Sagittarius optimism and Capricorn discipline, creating a personality that looks ahead while drawing wisdom from the past.

“This month is about planning ahead for the future and relying on the past to give us inspiration to drive forward,” Stardust says.

The peacock reflects this balance perfectly—often calm and observant, but unafraid to stand out and assert itself when the moment calls for it. “Peacocks are good at hanging back and doing their own thing, but will also be assertive when they need to be,” Stardust points out.

Homesteader Shares Hilarious Video of Chaos-Loving Goats Climbing Where They Shouldn't

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 2:01am

Anyone who has interacted with Goats knows that it is their world, and we're just living in it.

Which is likely how one homesteader came to find their herd of goats somewhere no goats should be: bouncing around on the household's literal rooftop.

@thestelane

Babe the goats are on the roof again

♬ original sound - thestelane

In a now viral video, user @thestelane shared his goats bounding around on his actual rooftop. They're not stressed, not agitated—just somewhere they have truly no business being.

TikTok users were quick to chime in about the ridiculousness of the situation:

"Insurance: so how did the roof get damaged?"

"I have chickens and get asked all the time if I'm going to get goats and I'm like, 'that's not even remotely the f**cking same.'"

"To be fair...this does look like a lot of fun."

It's safe to assume the goats did make it down safely, but what a sight to be seen.

Fun Activities for Pet Goats

Making sure goats are stimulated and entertained is critical for their health, so it's important to make sure they have plenty of activities to keep them occupied and activated. Goats love to climb, jump, romp, and explore, so making sure they have ample (and appropriate!) places to do so is crucial for their well being. Goats need physical as well as mental stimulation to thrive.

Some ideas for creating an enriching environment for your pet goats:

  • Climbing playgrounds are a great thing to include in field and pens for goats to explore.
  • Puzzle feeders and balls can be a fun addition to their routine.
  • Goats love having access to a scratching post to rub against.
  • Foraging is a natural behavior for goats, so implementing that into their day is a great thing.
  • Finding interesting ways for goats to exercise like teeter-totters and tunnels is fun for them and fun to observe as well.

There are many ways to keep your goats, should you choose to raise them, entertained. We'd just recommend leaving roofing off of the activity agenda.

TikTok's Theories About Why This Hamster Found His Human in the Middle of the Night Are Too Good

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 1:25am

One part tiny household friend, one part omen—the hamster in this viral TikTok is something out of a comedy special.

Alexis of @alexisdesiree215 on TikTok took to social media to share a throwback video of her hamster, Patricia, doing something...extremely uncharacteristic. According to Alexis, in the video (which has been viewed over 30 million times on TikTok alone) Patricia found his way into her bed to alert her at three in the morning to...something.

Naturally, the internet ran with it.

@alexisdesiree215

Don’t know how he managed to get out of his cage, find my room and climb onto my bed. #foryoupage #fyp #trending #viral

♬ original sound - prkhoonie.lvrs3

Commenters typed away to speculate as to what Patricia could have been needing or wanting to convey, and their theories are truly something.

"He literally missed you and used all his braincells to find you."

"He does this every night, but this is the only time you caught him."

"He's been probably saying 'mom' for 20 minutes."

"He forgot to tell you he needs ingredients for food tech tomorrow."

"This is a dream go back to sleep..."

While we'll never know what Patricia was up to that fateful evening, we can (and should!) thank him for the entertainment.

Do Hamsters Like People?

Because hamsters are the size that they are and are natural prey animals, they are never going to "like" humans in the traditional sense. However, they can learn a human's scent, touch, and routine to some extent, and in that regard can learn to trust specific people who are consistently present in their routines.

Some things to consider when bonding with your hamster:

  • Hamsters have poor eyesight, so they will need to learn you by scent and sound.
  • Being too restrictive with their movements will add to their stress levels.
  • Hamsters can set boundaries and show when they're uninterested in interacting, too.
  • It's okay if they simply want to coexist from a distance.
  • Just like any other animal, all hamsters will have their own personalities and you will need to adjust to them as such.

Unfortunately, Alexis did share in follow up content that Patricia is no longer with us, after living four years in her care, the little hamster did sadly pass away. RIP Patricia. You would have loved the speculation!

Dachshund Teaching Their Puppy Sibling the Most Important Life Skill Is Pure Sweetness

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 12:43am

Link and Mash are two absolutely adorable Dachshund siblings who their humans do also openly describe as "naughty." The pair of Link, the eldest, and Mash, the younger sibling, do everything together. Including learn idiosyncrasies, bad habits, and the dos and don'ts of being a dachshund.

In a video shared to the pair's social media (where the siblings are lightly famous with over 250k followers cross-platform), Link is shown teaching Mash a very valuable skill: the art of huffing and getting ready to bark at absolutely nothing.

The results of the Mr. Miyagi moment are nothing short of hilariously cute.

@linkandmash

Every Dachshund MUST learn this 😌 #dachshund #funnydog #dogtok

♬ original sound - linkandmash

Mash is a very good student and picks up on the Very Important Life Skill™ immediately and with ease.

Commenters got a huge kick out of the video and commiserated with knowing the "skill" being demonstrated all too well saying:

"The warm up bark, also known as the boof."

"'That's what we do when the wind blows.'"

"The noise you make after getting yelled at to stop barking."

How Dogs Teach Each Other Skills

As highly social pack animals, dogs are very natural teachers, especially as it pertains to other dogs. They model behaviors, participate in observational learning, and give immediate reactions and feedback to each other via body language. Dogs are also very good at establishing hierarchy and boundaries, and are quick to correct each other when need be, which facilitates learning.

Scientifically known as "allelomimetic behavior," puppies instinctually know to look to their older counterparts and mimic their actions and behavior. This helps them learn how to acclimate to their pack, and follow the correct routines. All of this is a huge part of socialization, which is a fancy way of saying it's just a part of learning how to be a dog.

Many of the skills puppies learn from older dogs are crucial and beneficial in the long run, but sometimes it's just about barking at the wind. And there's value in that, too.
