Being with a couple when you're solo can make you feel a little out of place. When you're that dreaded third wheel, it's hard to know where to look or what to do when you're hanging out with a couple of lovebirds who are being demonstrative.

Joey the Golden Retriever had his Golden girlfriend over to watch TV, and the two were getting pretty cozy on the couch. The pooch pair barely noticed Joey's father sitting right next to them, who wasn't sure where to look when the fur babies got a bit physical.

Joey and his girlfriend practically sat on top of each other on the couch despite there being plenty of room to sprawl out. The canines romantically canoodled and poured on the PDA , oblivious to Joey's dad sitting smooshed at the end of the sofa — or maybe they were so enraptured by each other, they didn't care who was around.

The Goldens got a little steamy with their flirtatious fondling, making Joey's father uncomfortable. The dog dad wasn't sure whether to pretend he didn't see anything or leave the room. He's apparently planning to talk to Joey about the birds and the bees after the dog's lady friend leaves.

"My dog has his girlfriend over and I think it's time to have a chat," the onscreen text revealed.

Followers empathized with the dad's unenviable situation while marveling at the passion between the pooches.

"These dogs are more in love than some human couples in relationships," one remarked.

"That feeling when you realize you are the third wheel," another noted.

"He is definitely in love and in front of the parents is wild," a follower posted.

"Make sure to tell them no closed doors in the house," someone pointed out.

Joey Has a Way With Women

Apparently, Joey's charms work their magic on humans as well as canines. The Golden guy gets lots of attention from ladies wherever he goes.

Joey's girlfriend may want to keep him on a short leash when he's around females, just to play it safe.

Maine winters are no joke. It's nearly May, and I'm still not convinced we're out of the woods: it just snowed a little last week! In some places, there will be massive piles of snow until at least June. It's just the price you pay to live in the best state, I guess.

The McFloofenpant Family is a group of 7 Maine Coons living on a farm! In addition to the kitties, there are a couple of donkeys on the farm, but they get to live outside all the time. The cats typically only go out when it's nice out.

Lucky for them, it was very nice out on this day: 70 degrees and sunny! They couldn't wait. The cat in this video, Elvis, is the one who really loves going outside: he's orange. He loves a good adventure. Some might even call him The King!

This video is awesome because it shows off that he also has very pronounced thumbs! A lot of Maine Coons are bred to be polydactyl, meaning they have extra toes, which is what causes that look. It doesn't hurt them at all; it's just adorable!

Maine Coons are known for being adventurous, which is an awesome trait if you're looking for an adventure buddy, but it can also make them restless. These cats need stimulation every single day to stay healthy!

Now that it's warming up, taking your Maine Coon outside is the perfect way to get in some enrichment. If you're going to, you'll want to make sure they're supervised and secure using things like:

• A leash.

Huey doesn't.

In this ridiculously cute video, Mom walks up to the day care window with her phone out, filming her little peanut from outside, and the second Huey sees her, the whole world changes. There's no slow realization. No cautious double take. He knows exactly who that is, and his tiny body reacts like joy just hit him all at once.

The spin is what really gets you. It's not just a wag. It's not just a little bounce. It's a happy little Dachshund twirl that somehow says everything a sentence could not. Excitement. Relief. Adoration. Possibly a little “finally.” Huey looks like every thought in his head has been replaced with one single beautiful fact: Mom is here!

At one point, Huey seems to glance over at one of the other dogs like, “Hey, that’s my mom. Do you see her? That is my person. I love her.” It's such a tiny moment, but it makes the whole thing feel even more personal and funny. He's not just happy. He's proud. He wants the room to be aware that his favorite human has arrived.

It's not big or complicated. It's just a tiny dog having a giant feeling in the most obvious, wholehearted way possible. And people cannot resist that. One comment says, “These videos of Huey brighten my day 😊 he is so adorable!” and yes, exactly. He has that kind of energy. The kind that cuts through everything else and just makes the day softer for a second.

Dachshunds are already experts at having emotions that seem much too large for their little bodies, and Huey is clearly top of his class. He's small, dramatic, affectionate, and apparently fully committed to making sure his mom knows she has been missed.

Some dogs are showstoppers, no matter what. There are plenty of reasons why a dog will catch everyone's eye, but their size is often a really big one. Huge dogs, as well as super tiny ones, always get people talking.

How Big Do Newfoundland Dogs Get?

The Newfoundland is classified as a "giant breed," alongside other massive pups like the Mastiff, Great Danes, and Saint Bernards. Typically, Newfoundlands weigh between 100 and 150 pounds when they're full-grown, though many exceed that.

Male Newfoundlands are the largest of the Newfoundland breed, with many of them even pushing 200 pounds. When they stand on their back legs, these dogs can stand as tall as a human! If you're not ready for another full-sized adult in your house, this is not the breed for you.

As with most giant dog breeds, Newfoundlands can be prone to being couch potatoes a lot of the time. They love to lounge around: being massive takes up a lot of energy. They're also covered in fur, so they tend to overheat.

"Introducing a new dog to a cat in your home can be exciting," Shir Limazati, CPDT- KA, a trainer at Another Chance Training. "The excitement usually is driven by your vision of what you hope your dog and cat's connection will look like: The sweet moments when you’re sitting on the couch and glance over to see your dog and cat snuggling in the corner and the laughter when you watch them play together and just be silly. You may even be thinking about all the photo ops for the social media account you're planning to set up as well."

Because of this, Limazati says pet parents often fall into an "Instagram vs. reality" trap when they daydream about their dog and cat meeting for the first time, so the real moment can be discouraging when things don't go as planned. "Bringing a new dog into a cat household or vice versa can be stressful, frustrating and even scary," Limazati points out. "Often—at least in the beginning—it's not at all what people envisioned or expected."

Having a dog and cat meet and interact can be stressful, but taking the right first step can make the process much smoother. What's a tip from a trainer for introducing a dog to a cat? The number one thing to do when introducing a dog and cat is to go slow. Limazati explains that a slow, controlled introduction is key to helping both pets feel safe and reducing territorial behavior. "Introducing your dog to your cat is not meant to be a quick process," Limazati notes. "But when approached with a healthy mindset, patience and structure, it can be a beautiful and rewarding journey you share together." This approach also builds positive associations early on and improves the chances of your dog and cat getting along over time.

Overall, patience is a key virtue as well as having realistic expectations. "Progress is never linear and never perfect," Limazati reveals. "It can take 6 to 12 months to fully understand your dog from the time they come home, as well as to truly assess what your dog and cat’s relationship might look like." It's also important to know that setbacks are almost always bound to happen. "Long-term management, consistency, training and routine can make a huge difference," Limazati says. 

Why Introducing a Dog and Cat Too Quickly Can Cause Problems

If you introduce your cat and dog too fast, things can get messy. "When done without careful planning and preparation—or when done too quickly—these introductions can lead to unhealthy stress in both pets," Limazati says. "Moving too quickly can also lead to injury, trauma or worse."

Limazati adds that it's also possible that one or both pets will experience long-term anxiety or aggression or develop challenging behaviors. It's vital to remember that all dogs and cats are different, as are all cat-dog relationships. "Even if your cat has been around dogs before and vice versa, this is not a guarantee the duo in front of you will instantly coexist safely," Limazati points out. "With so many variables, such as age, temperament, recent transitions or changes in their routine, health and so much more, it is imperative to take this process slowly and carefully instead of rush it."  

All of the above may look scary, but don't let it discourage you. If you're willing to put in the time and care to slowly and patiently introduce a new dog to your cat, Limazati says it's totally worth it.

4 Steps to Introduce a Dog to a Cat

Now that you know what the number one thing to do when introducing a dog to a cat is, where do you go from there? Below, Limazati shares a general step-by-step guide on how to introduce a dog to a cat that pet owners can follow. Though, Limazati suggests consulting with your vet before introducing two pets to one another in your home for the first time.

"Every situation is different, and this guide is by no means foolproof," Limazati says. "As a trainer, even with my own clients who have this goal, I almost always end up pivoting and adjusting along the way."

1. Set Your Environment Up for Success

Limazati says this step often gets skipped, but it's the most important. "Without a safe environment, everything you attempt to accomplish will undoubtedly be more challenging," Limazati says. Limazati notes that a safe environment includes:

• Separate spaces for each pet (read: no-dog and no-cat zones that the other one can't access). Pet gates and cat trees are clutch here.
• A crate-trained dog that has learned to take a break in the safe room
• A dog who understands basic commands/cues

"Your dog and cat will stay separated potentially for a significant amount of time, so setting their environments up for success is so important," Limazati states.

2. Let Them Learn Each Other's Scents

Limazati says you can move on to scent swapping when introducing a new dog to your cat once your environment is prepared and you've worked on the basics with your dog. "The next step for your dog and cat to get to know each other is for them to learn each other’s scents," Limazati explains.“ Dogs and cats rely heavily on their sense of smell, so this early stage of dog and cat introduction is a safe way to help them adjust and gauge stress levels before they meet face-to-face.”

Remember, the best thing to do when introducing a new dog to your cat is to go slow, as safe dog and cat introductions take time. "Since for now your dog and cat are living in separate areas, you want to start by bringing each of their items into their spaces," Limazati says. Think blankets, toys, towels and brushes. Limazati advises pet parents to look out for signs of stress, like raised hackles, excessive drooling or panting or stiff body language from their dog or cat when they are doing this. If there are no signs of stress, she suggests letting each pet visit the other's safe room (without the other pet in it).

“Let them explore,” Limazati says. “You can even train your dog in your cat's safe room and play with your cat in your dog’s safe space. Watch for marking. It’s not uncommon for both cats and dogs to mark their territory when they smell another animal’s scent during early dog meets cat introductions.” Repeat this step until you get a week straight of calm behavior.

3. Have a Visual Introduction with Safety Barriers 

It's time for your pets to meet visually. Limazati says safety barriers, such as a baby gate, must be in place between both pets. She stresses that this exercise should always be supervised and that sessions should be kept short (5 to 10 minutes), with breaks in between.

"If at any time your cat or dog is showing signs of stress, that’s when you should immediately stop and put them back in their safe, separate spaces," Limazati emphasizes. "I usually recommend this type of visual exposure to be done for two to three weeks at a minimum, with no signs of stress before moving forward."

4. Allow Supervised Interactions in the Same Place

The final step is to let your pets meet each other in the same room. " This needs to be done slowly and carefully and with 100 % of your attention on your dog and cat," Limazati advises. "No multitasking here. Make sure there are no high-value items on the floor, like treats, bones, special toys or food bowls."

Ensure your cat has emergency exits (ones with height, like cat trees, are very helpful). It's generally best to start with your dog leashed. "You can sit on the couch or a chair with your dog on the floor and on a leash," Limazati says. "Have some training treats handy. Have the second person let the cat out to roam freely."

Limazati suggests giving your dog treats when they look at your cat, so they associate the interaction with something positive. Remove the treats if the cat approaches the dog on their own to avoid guarding. "Watch the interaction," Limazati says. "If everyone is calm, this is a good sign, and you can reward."

Repeat this consistently. Eventually, you'll be able to give your dog more freedom, such as being able to be around the cat off-leash. Limazati advises people to keep pets separate when they aren't home (or when they're showering with the door locked). "I never advise leaving them unsupervised," Limazati reveals. "This means they are in their safe rooms or spaces when you are out of the house, in the shower or sleeping."

TikTok user @chasin_chester shared the touching moment their Golden Retriever, Chester, discovered what appeared to be a crumpled piece of tinfoil sitting on a curb, and then, immediately, he treated it like it mattered. A lot.

At first, he just stands there, completely still, staring at it like it might do something. Like it might say something. And then, without breaking whatever invisible connection he’s formed, he slowly lowers himself down next to it… and refuses to move.

According to the caption, this is not unusual behavior for Chester. “When he falls in love, he falls hard,” his pet parent wrote, adding, “One person’s trash is another dog’s treasure.”

And honestly? That's the case here.

There’s something about the way he looks at that tiny crumpled ball, soft, focused, completely locked in, that makes it feel less like curiosity and more like… attachment. Immediate, unquestioned, slightly intense attachment. The kind that doesn’t ask for logic.

Which makes what happens next feel almost unfair.

When his mom came back a few minutes later, the tinfoil was gone. A crow had swooped in, grabbed it, and flown off. Just like that. No closure. No goodbye. Just gone.

I don’t know why, but that detail absolutely took me out. My Maine Coon cat, Meatball, once carried around a literal twist tie for 2 hours like it was a family heirloom, so I get it. These things matter to them in ways we don’t fully understand.

And people felt it, too. One comment says, “That’s definitely her baby!🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️” which is exactly the kind of reaction this brings out. Because once you see them together, that's the story your heart writes immediately. Not just two rescues sharing space, but one soul recognizing another one who might need a little extra softness.

What makes it even more moving is that Belle, the horse, is not exactly at 100% herself. The post explains that she had been having intestinal issues, but seemed to be having a better day, and that her medication might finally be helping. So this isn't a story about one strong, steady animal rescuing another from a position of total ease. It's something better than that. It's two beings, both in transition, somehow finding comfort in the same corner of the world at the same time.

Sometimes it's just standing nearby. Sometimes it's staying still long enough for someone else to feel safe. Sometimes it's letting a baby calf decide you are home for a little while.

Elliot sat up on his hind legs with his front paws lying on his chest in a Meerkat pose in the TikTok from @elliederebellie. While his stance was adorably comical, his ultra-soft marshmallow-like coat was the attention-grabber.

Layers upon layers of silky, feathery fur that billowed outward in soft, plushy waves completely erased any hint of a cat silhouette. It was hard to tell where Elliot began and his fur ended.

The fluffy feline's greenish eyes and tiny white nose were able to peek out amidst the lush, cloud-like coat. His paws had a somewhat definitive shape against that plume of poof, but Elliot's body shape was buried underneath all that heathery hair.

Followers were both mesmerized and perplexed by Elliot's head-turning fur, even comparing him to a famous Dr. Seuss character.

Kitties are incredibly adaptable, and many can live full, happy lives even after injuries or physical changes.

Losing part of an ear, whether from injury, medical treatment, or other circumstances, typically doesn’t affect a cat’s overall quality of life. They can still hear, play, explore, and do all the normal cat things without much trouble.

Cats are also very good at adjusting to their bodies as they are. They don’t dwell on their differences the way humans might, which means they often carry on as if nothing has changed.

Fun fact: In many cases, kitties with visible differences, like a missing ear, actually become even more memorable and beloved because of their unique look.

Lady, the Dachshund, definitely knows how to work an injury to get her way.

The sweet, Longhaired Dachshundrecently hurt her nail and had to get a teeny-tiny, adorable cast on one of her front legs.

In this new video, we see little Lady being carried down the stairs by her mom.

Baffoe almost cries when she sees her injured dog walk. "The little hobble! I can't even," she says.

Lady the Dachshund Knows How To Play Her Mom

She makes Lady's breakfast, but it seems Lady doesn't want to get up from her very cozy bed.

So Mom brings the food to Lady. "I have to get her to eat so she can take her medicine. She's being very dramatic," Baffoe says as she feeds Lady from the bowl in her bed.

Then they move to the couch because it's medicine time. "She knows exactly what's about to happen, and she's not happy," says Baffoe.

Though Lady looks away at first, hoping her Mom won't see her, when she takes out her medicine, eventually she takes it down like a champ and then gives her mom a nice nuzzle.

Now it's time to get ready for the day!

Baffoe puts Lady in a cute pink harness, then loads her into her pink sling carrier, and out they go for a nice walk in New York City.

It's their facial markings that make them seem so grumpy, and their grimaced little expressions and sweet baby noises are so lovable that I might have to dust off the 'ole passport to visit them sooner than later. Apparently, meerkats resemble fully-grown adults at just two months of age.

Cute and Ruthless

Don't let Timon, the wisecracking meerkat from The Lion King, give you the wrong impression about these animals. Meerkats might look like the comic relief of the animal world—tiny, upright, always on lookout—but their reality is a lot darker and way more interesting.

For starters, they’re wildly social, living in "mobs" of up to 50, where everyone pitches in to raise the babies, babysit, and stand guard. There’s even a kind of ranking system among the lookouts—some are so reliable they’re basically “trusted security,” and the rest of the group adjusts their behavior based on who’s on duty. 

But here’s where things take a turn: meerkat society is ruled by a dominant female who runs the show with surprising intensity. She produces most of the pups and will go as far as killing other females’ babies or kicking rivals out of the group to keep control. In fact, as many as one in five meerkats are killed by their own kind, making them one of the most internally violent mammals out there. 

They’re also unexpectedly sophisticated communicators. Their vocal system is so advanced that they can signal not just “danger,” but what kind of predator is coming and how urgent the situation is. No wonder these pups are so chatty!

And then there’s the drama: lower-ranking males sneak out at night to mate with females in other groups. Meanwhile, adults actively teach pups how to hunt—starting with dead scorpions before graduating them to live ones.

Meerkats may look cute and coordinated, but underneath it all is a highly strategic, slightly ruthless, and surprisingly intelligent little society.

Spirit was lying with her pups in the TikTok from @rottkarmakennelsllc when one of her fur babies made a little noise. The Rottweiler mom's head immediately jerked toward her babies as she tried to figure out which one the sound came from.

Things got quiet for a moment, so Spirit assumed she had misheard something and went back to just chilling. The tiniest squeak was heard again, prompting Spirit to lock in on her babies to see which pup needed attention. The Rottie even stopped panting so she could clearly hear her precious pooches.

She was just taken in by an influencer and dog dad, as well as foster dog dad Evan Cooper, who lives in Charleston, North Carolina, with his sweet rescue German Shepherd mix, Vader.

This is the second foster dog they have taken in, so they are pretty much professionals now.

Evan explains that Egg Roll, who is only a few months old, was found abandoned in a wheelbarrow with her siblings.

"But now she's with me and Vader," Evan says confidently into the camera as he takes the two dogs to the park.

Now, the beautiful Egg Roll's biggest problem is just trying to keep up with her athletic big brother and be a small dog in a big dog and people world.

But she's doing just fine!

She also has the most piercing light green eyes and looks like she has some Vizsla dog breed in her, based on the shade of her coat.

Egg Roll the Foster Puppy Has a Great First Day

First, after Evan introduces her to the camera, Egg Roll tries to climb on the table her dad is standing on, but she doesn't quite make it.

Then they go to the playground, but Egg Roll has to climb over a little barrier, which impedes her a bit, but she has success.

When they turn to leave, she has no trouble with the barrier at all. What a fast learner!

How To Help a New Cat Ease Into the Home

If you're bringing a new kitten or cat into your home, it's such an exciting time, but change can be stressful for you and the new kitty. So doing a few things upfront can help ease that transition. 

According to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, setting up a base camp with all the things your kitten or cat needs, including a carrier, toys, litter, food, and water, is the first important step. This will be their quiet, safe space. The site notes that all this change can be scary, and being patient and letting them come to you for cuddles is also important.

From there, you can visit their space with toys and treats, sit to play for a bit, and take their comfort as cues. Wait a bit before introducing other pets to the new cat, and reach out to your vet if you have any issues.

Despite the name, Molly the Cockatoo is indeed a boy. They rescued him two years ago from a local place, and in that time, he's definitely blended himself into his new family. Everybody loves him, and he tolerates everybody, but his brother is clearly his favorite.

Somebody in the comments pointed out that the fact that the boy is sleeping through all of this is proof that it's definitely not a one-time thing. Molly is literally standing on his mouth, and he hasn't even moved a muscle!

When German Shepherd Kaia first laid her eyes on her cat sibling's new brood, she wasted no time volunteering to help out in any way possible. Whether it's gathering everyone for a nap, being the fun aunt they can climb on as they learn to walk, or telling the humans (or cat mom Athena) of the house that it's time to check on the babies, this is one pup deserving of a celebratory Mother's Day this year.

Athena is a wonderful mama cat, but even hardworking mothers need a break every now and then. Thanks to Kaia's devotion and love as Mom's right-hand caregiver, the kitty crew is so very loved. From the day she met them, she's been mesmerized, with Mom noting that it's "the highlight of her day."

The kittens were born in late February and are now looking for homes, in case anyone out in Houston is looking to add a new member to the family. Potty-trained, smart, and dog-friendly (obviously!), you couldn't ask for a better feline companion, all raised by an affectionate cat and one amazing German Shepherd!

There are several heartwarming videos that show the loyal pup leading her human to see the kittens, and they're all special. You can tell she was born to be a parent in some capacity, even if it's a foster, step, or bonus mom. You think you know what a dog sounds like. Barking. Maybe a little yipping. Standard issue dog noises. And then Hannah shows up and completely rewrites the rules.

In the TikTok clip shared by @k_a_m_j_3, Hannah is tapping her mom with her paw like she has something very important to say, and then unleashes this series of quacky, garbled little sounds that genuinely don't match her size or species. It’s aggressive. It’s passionate. It’s… duck adjacent.

Chihuahuas may be tiny, but their personalities are anything but small. They are known for being bold, expressive, and incredibly attached to their people, often forming strong one-person bonds. You know that meme that says, "I never wanted a Golden Retriever that loves everyone, I wanted a Chihuahua that hates everyone but me?" SO FITTING.

They can be great companions if you’re looking for a smaller pup with a lot of personality, but they do need proper socialization and training to help manage things like barking or nervous behavior.

Chihuahuas also tend to be very alert and vocal, which means they're not shy about letting you know how they feel… as clearly demonstrated here.

Despite their size, they do best with structure, routine, and a home that understands their quirks. Because when you get a Chihuahua, you aren't just getting a dog. You're getting a full character.
