Oodles of doodles have come together with every breed imaginable. What started as an endeavor to create a hypoallergenic dog turned into a massive phenomenon mixing every breed imaginable with the low-shedding poodle.

Now there are numerous doodle varieties from goldendoodles to shepadoodles and more. While doodle breeders have achieved the desired result of a low-shedding pup, a new study highlights a hidden issue that doesn't present in their purebred counterparts.

Study Highlights a Hidden Doodle Breeding Side Effect

"Designer dogs" are incredibly popular. But a new study says the popular trend comes with undesirable behavioral consequences. The Royal Veterinary College selected the three most popular designer doodle blends in the U.K. to study: the Cockapoo, Labradoodle, and Cavapoo.

When compared to their purebred parents, i.e., the cocker spaniel, Labrador retriever, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and the respective poodle breeds, they fell behind in several key categories.

The study shows that, among the dogs surveyed, 54% of the doodles exhibited different behavior than the purebreds. Of the 39 behaviors evaluated, the designer pups showed more undesirable behavior in 82% (32 of 39) of the categories. The RVC's biggest concern is that, most often, adoption or selection of these pups is based on the assumption that they are better-behaved dogs.

However, the study shows that this is unequivocally not the case. The most common behavioral red flags for the three crossbreeds are high levels of non-social fear. So they are afraid of things like loud or sudden noises, such as traffic. The dogs also show a higher incidence of separation-related issues, leading to destructive behavior or loud barking, crying, or whining when their owner is absent.

The mixes are also far more excitable than their counterparts, reacting to things like walks, visitors, doorbells, knocks on the door and car trips with exuberance. Of course, all of these issues can be handled with training.

But the issue lies in access to training and support, as well as in the willingness to ask for them. The study points out that earlier research has shown that "remarkably few owners seek veterinary or other professional help or advice to manage these three important behavioural issues."

"Owners of designer-crossbreeds should be mindful that displaying these behaviours likely indicates their dog is experiencing negative emotions such as fear, anxiety and/or panic which should be prioritised with similar consideration as any physical ailment to maintain good welfare," the study suggests. "Canine behaviourists and veterinary professionals can support designer-crossbreed owners by increasing awareness of the serious negative impacts of these undesirable behaviours upon their dogs and offer appropriate therapies to address them."

Differences Between the Three Crossbreeds

Among the three mixes, the Cockapoos showed the highest level of undesirable behaviors in the behavior scale comparison. Compared with Cocker Spaniels and Poodles, they displayed undesired behaviors in 16 of 24 categories. Cavapoos scored 12 out of 24, while Labradoodles had fewer differences, clocking 11 differences from the Labrador retriever.

Overall, though, the Labradoodle fared best across all categories, which is not particularly surprising. Researchers say that while the study can be applied to other doodle mixes, it would be best if each crossbreed were studied as thoroughly as these have been.

But the most important takeaway from the study is that while these concerning behaviors do exist, consistent training with a certified trainer or breed specialist can do a lot of good, and ultimately create solutions that are better for the pup's overall well-being.

The video of the ecstatic pup was shared by Minneapolis's Fox 9 on their YouTube channel, bringing some levity to a situation that is anything but funny for people currently traveling.

The video, which the outlet reported was filmed on March 24 by Ashley Perdew from Virginia, who was waiting in line at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. Despite the long lines, the sight did elicit an amused laugh from Perdew.

I am sure a few other passengers were equally amused at the pup's playful antics. The GSP hops around with a toy in his mouth, likely taking a little break from his sniffer duties. He may have a job, but even TSA dogs need a break.

He seemed to wish he were not on a leash and could zoom around freely. But that would likely end with him on the other end of the airport, and no one's break is that long. I'm sure he will get free rein zoomies once he gets home.

What Caused the Pup's Energetic Outburst?

Commenters spent a lot of time speculating why the pup had such high spirits at work. Theories ranged from the pup being overwhelmed by all the smells flooding the airport to him getting a sniff of some extra-good contraband. Other viewers wondered if he was tired of being at the airport and didn't really want to do the work. But a handful of commenters, familiar with the breed, strongly disagreed.

"Nice to see a German shorthair undocked. And showing his true colors. They bounce, and they fly. They only touch the ground in between," one viewer comments. The German Shorthaired Pointer is certainly having the time of his life zooming around his handler.

Another writes, "My GSP acts like this when she is really happy!!- which is every day when I get home from work!!" It could be that this pup hasn't been to work in a while and is so happy to be back among travelers that he got a little silly.

Whatever the reason, it's always a delight to see a sweet pup having the time of his life, even if he is at work. We should all be so lucky to enjoy what we do that much.

The latest update was shared on the TikTok account @soccercatmom, and it reveals something no one saw coming about the tiny Tuxedo kitten, who has already captured hearts with the way she gets around using just her front legs.

If you have seen her before, you already know she moves like a little wheelbarrow: determined, fast, and completely unbothered by the challenges she has faced.

But now, her story has another unexpected layer.

According to her foster mom, after struggling to determine whether Dani was male or female, they discovered the reason is because she is actually intersex.

As her caregiver explained, Dani has both a vaginal canal and testicles, which is a rare condition but one that does not change how she is loved or cared for in any way.

Her mom shared that she will continue to refer to Dani as “she,” while also opening up the conversation about what others might say.

And if the comments are anything to go by, people are not focused on labels.

They are focused on her.

It is considered rare, and in many cases, intersex cats can live normal, happy lives with proper veterinary care and monitoring.

And if Lieutenant Dani has proven anything, it is that labels are the least interesting thing about her.

Lieutenant Dani’s condition, caused by Manx syndrome, is a spinal condition sometimes seen in cats with very short tails or no tails at all. The condition affects spine development and can lead to mobility challenges in the hind legs.

Cats with Manx syndrome may experience weakness or paralysis in their hind legs, which means they often have to adapt to moving in different ways. Many of these kitties rely heavily on their front legs and upper-body strength to get around.

While the condition can present challenges, many cats with Manx syndrome still go on to live happy lives with the help of supportive caregivers, veterinary care, and adaptive equipment when needed.

In the TikTok from @wildmane_mainecoons, the orange cat lovingly cuddled and groomed her adorable litter of little kittens. The mama Maine Coon was clearly in no hurry to go anywhere else and gave her full attention to her babies.

Saint Bernards Are Great at Having Fun Doing Almost Anything

Bruno is having a great time, and he's not really even doing anything. To him, being able to sit down on the deck outside while his body stays cool with the snow and his face warms up from the sunlight is something to smile about, and he's right. But he only sees life that way because, as a Saint Bernard, he's just really happy about doing anything and always knows how to make the most of things.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Saint Bernard dog is known for being "charming, playful, and inquisitive," which means they're happy to make a game out of anything and are interested in everything, so life's a game. In the family life write-up for the breed traits and characteristics, the Saint Bernard is at the top end of the scale for being lovey-dovey and good with children. Energy levels, trainability, and mental stimulation needs are right in the center; they don't need much.

She walks through everyone, from tiny kittens to moms, dads, and even grandmas, which I did not realize was something I needed to see until now. At one point, she casually includes a Savannah cat too, bringing the total to 17 cats just casually existing in one house, like it's completely normal.

The cats themselves are exactly what you would expect from Maine Coons.

Huge. Fluffy. Majestic. Slightly intimidating in the “you know they run this house” kind of way.

Maine Coons are often described as being more like dogs than typical cats, and I can confirm that from experience. My Maine Coon, Meatball, follows people around the house, wants to be involved in everything, and will absolutely insert himself into any situation, whether he was invited or not.

They tend to be less aloof than many other cats and areknown for being social, affectionate, and very people-oriented kitties. Instead of hiding when guests come over, many Maine Coons will walk right up, as if they are hosting the event.

They are also one of the largest domestic cat breeds, which means everything about them feels a little extra. Bigger paws, longer bodies, more fluff, and yes… a much larger appetite. These felines eat like they have places to be and responsibilities to handle.

But more than anything, they just want to be around their humans.

Every neighborhood's got that one cat. The cat who reigns over the entire block and acts like he owns the whole town. That's Craig the Maine Coon.

Maine Coons Have Intimidating Faces But Are Actually Gentle, Affectionate Cats

The funniest thing about the idea of Craig looking like a ‘thug’: even though Maine Coons naturally look serious and intimidating, they are actually very gentle giants.

Everything about a Maine Coon's face reads as stern. High cheekbones, broad square muzzle, prominent brow ridge that makes them look permanently concerned about something. Their eyes can sometimes be intense and don’t blink often, almost surveillance-like. Those tufted ear tips add a bit of a wild edge to complete the look.

Then there's all that fur. The thick mane around their neck looks very much lion-like. Their bushy eyebrows make them look liek they are always in deep thought. Some have those natural "M" shaped markings on their foreheads that can appear to look like built-in frown lines.

Put it all together and you get a cat that looks like they're running a very serious operation.

The reality? Maine Coons cats are famously known for their gentle and affectionate temperaments. They get along well with kids, other pets, and pretty much everyone. They're playful, warm-hearted cats who just happened to be born with the face of someone perpetually unimpressed and an intimidating size.

Craig sitting on that car looking like the neighborhood enforcer? He's probably innocent just minding his own business deciding between napping there or napping on a different car. That intense stare suggesting he's plotting world domination? Nope. He's just vibing or possibley just trying to stay awake.

Adopting a senior rescue dog is one of the best decisions I've ever made. That doesn't mean it was easy introducing him to our resident guardian, a Corgi, but with patience, solidifying routines, and more love than both dogs could ever imagine, life is pretty good now. Wally the Golden Retriever recently celebrated his birthday by getting some special grub at the McDonald's drive-thru and was surprised by how the cashier greeted him.

In the TikTok from @wally.meets.world, Wally's mom was at the drive-thru of the Golden Arches and gave the precious pooch's favorite order as he patiently waited in the backseat.

"Can I get a hamburger Happy Meal, but can I just get the hamburger just plain, nothing on it? Thank you," she politely asked the cashier.

As they drove up to the cashier to pay, Wally stuck his head out the window in anticipation of his special treat. Once they pulled up, the canine cutie even put his front paws outside of the car to show his excitement for the tasty burger. His mom encouraged him to sit back and reassured him that his food was on the way, while sharing the celebratory occasion for the yummy treat.

"Getting a Happy Meal — it's his birthday today," she told the cashier with a smile as Wally edged closer to the drive-thru window.

Wally Unintentionally Scared the Cashier

Wally's mom knew he was just being his usual charming self and assumed the cashier would get a kick out of his childlike enthusiasm, but got an unexpected reaction.

"Oh, you're scared of him? Is that what you said?" his mom asked, surprised, and immediately put down her phone. "Oh, sorry! Oh my goodness!"

Apparently, Wally's over-the-top adorableness was too much to handle for the young woman. The compassionate canine and his mom both respected the cashier's feelings, so Wally sat back in the car to avoid causing her any distress.

Followers commended Wally's mom for her understanding and consideration of the cashier's fear.

That way, when you see certain dog behaviors or body language, you'll know what it means.

"Understanding when your dog is asking for space is essential for both safety and trust," says Alexandra Bassett, CPDT-KA, the founder of Dog Savvy Positive Dog Training. "Dogs communicate primarily through body language, and many of their signals are subtle. When people miss or ignore these early cues, dogs may feel increasingly stressed or trapped. Recognizing the early signs allows you to intervene before the situation escalates and helps your dog feel heard and protected."

Bassett shares that dogs have many reasons to ask for some time alone, such as feeling nervous around strangers, feeling overwhelmed by activity, being tired or being protective of something (or someone) they value. "A dog might ask for space when they are in pain, startled or feeling socially pressured by someone leaning over them, hugging them or crowding their body," Bassett explains. "In many cases, the dog isn’t trying to be aggressive, they are simply trying to communicate that they are uncomfortable and need distance."

Listening and respecting a dog's needs is important, but you have to know what to look for. To help, Bassett shared five of the earlier, more subtle signs that your dog is asking for space, along with advice on how to respond.

Dogs will start quietly asking for space pretty early through their body language. Yet, Bassett says it's easy to miss cues your dog gives when they want some time to themself. As a trainer, she stresses it's vital to learn them, though. "Understanding this progression—from subtle avoidance signals to more intense warnings—helps people intervene earlier and prevent bites," Bassett explains. "When dogs see that their early communication works and that humans respect their requests for space, they are far less likely to feel the need to escalate their behavior in the future."

1. Avoiding eye contact

There are several ways dogs ask for space. Bassett shares that one is when a dog turns their head and body away from you. This is a sign they need solo time. It's one of the most common early ways your dog tells you, "I'd rather not interact right now."

When you notice this dog behavior, it's your pup's way of communicating to you. "Dogs often use this polite disengagement to signal that they are uncomfortable with a situation," Bassett reports. "Rather than confronting something directly, they angle their body away, look away or physically turn their head to diffuse social pressure."

2. Lip licking

Another sign a dog needs alone time involves licking. In fact, licking isn't always a cue that your dog is hungry or about to give you a smooch. Bassett says it's often a sign your dog is asking for space. So if you see your dog lick its lips while lowering its heads, or dipping its heads ever so slightly, remember what it means.

"When a dog quickly flicks their tongue out—even when no food is present—it is often an appeasement gesture that indicates stress or discomfort," Bassett notes. "You may notice this when someone leans over the dog, when the dog is being scolded or when they feel socially pressured." Bassett adds that the head lowering is another way your dog says, "I'm not so sure about this" or "I am not a threat."

3. Stress-signal cluster

There are subtle signs your dog is overwhelmed and needs space that pet parents can miss. Bassett says one of those is when a dog has their ears pinned-back, a tucked tail, is tilting their body away from the situation and has whale eyes. Combined, these are almost always a message that your dog feels stressed as these are strong dog body language cues your dog will display when they asking for alone time.

"This body posture reflects anxiety and an attempt to create distance without escalating the situation," Bassett explains. "Your dog may remain still, but angle their body away, hoping the pressure will stop."

4. Walking away

Bassett explains that some dogs will communicate discomfort by trying to leave a situation. "Walking away, backing up, hiding behind their guardian or moving to another room are all clear attempts to flee," Bassett says. These dog behaviors are important signs your dog needs space and should be recognized as key dog communication cues.

"When a dog tries to remove themselves, it is important to respect that choice rather than following or cornering them, as preventing escape can quickly increase their stress." Understanding these dog stress signals and dog body language signs can help pet owners respond appropriately and avoid escalating anxiety.

5. Freezing

Some dogs default to freezing, especially when earlier dog communication signals and attempts to ask for space haven’t worked. Others may suddenly stop in their tracks, showing one of the more serious signs your dog needs space.

"A dog may suddenly become very still, stiffen their body, or hold their breath for a moment. This pause often occurs when the dog feels conflicted or threatened," Bassett explains. These are critical dog body language cues and often overlooked dog stress signals. "Freezing is frequently the last quiet signal before a dog escalates to stronger defensive behaviors."

How to Respond to Your Dog's Need for Space

Bassett says that after a "freeze fail," dogs may curl their lips to show their teeth, growl, air-snap, or bite. So, it's vital to notice the earlier signs your dog is asking for space and respond accordingly from a regulated place. "When a dog asks for space, the best response is to calmly reduce the pressure," Bassett advises. "This might mean asking someone to step back, calling another dog away or allowing your dog to move to a quiet resting spot."

Remember, you are your dog's voice. Bassett says it's vital not to make a dog do something they clearly don't want to do. "Avoid forcing interaction or trying to reassure the dog with petting if they are clearly uncomfortable," Bassett recommends. "Instead, give them room and allow them to decompress. When dogs learn that their early communication works, they are far less likely to escalate their behavior."

These Cow's Bedtime Routine is Enviable

Millie and Milo, who live with the creators behind the viral YouTube account, The Husky Fam, are certainly living the high life. However, their most enviable part of their day may be their multi-part bedtime routine. Yes. You read that correctly. These two loveable, fluffy cows have a multi-step bedtime routine that just about everyone on the internet wants to help with.

First, they enter the barn and get to work spreading out a new layer of hay throughout their bedding area. One of the cows, Millie, lends a hoof by pushing the recently released from plastic bales around their home until it is mostly spread out. Of course, she does get a little distracted and starts rubbing her head against her pajamas. I think she may be hinting at something.

Her head rubs were so aggressive that one of the pajamas fell off the wall. That didn't stop her from returning to assist with the bales of hay, though. But sadly, the pajamas stayed on the ground for a little while.

The Final Bedtime Steps

No harm was done, and with a good shake, the pajamas were ready to go. Millie gets buttoned up into her blue pajamas, while the other cow, Milo, finally makes an appearance, just to get buttoned up into his pajamas. But he didn't come to help. Though I would venture to say that Millie's reward was getting her chin brushed after her pajamas were on.

After the pair puts on their adorable pajamas, they have a little bedtime snack. The lucky ducks get to wind down with a movie before mom finally says that it's lights out. She doesn't leave without giving them both extra scratches and kisses.

Fans were equally enamored with the pair. One writes in the comments, "This is one of my favorites. Milo and Millie look so adorable in their jam-jams. I love how Milo is always close to his mama, wanting cuddles and kisses." I would have to agree. I have never seen a cow in pajamas before, but Millie and Milo look totally huggable in theirs.

Other fans agree that they are just "adorable" and can't believe how big they have gotten. Thankfully, these two are miniature Highland cows, so they are about as big as they are going to get. They usually hit about 3.4 feet at their shoulder before they stop growing altogether. Regular Highland cows do grow larger.

If you’re doing absolutely nothing and your dog is velcroed to your side, it’s pretty clear they simply enjoy being around you and love you, even when there’s no game of fetch around the horizon. “If your dog casually relocates just to stay within a few feet of you, that’s not clinginess, but attachment,” says Brett Reynolds, a fear-free animal trainer and director of dog care at The Dog Stop. “When your dog seeks you out during calm, boring moments (not just when food or walks are involved), it signals trust, emotional security and a preference for you as their social anchor.”

They Make Soft Eye Contact and “Check In” With You

That slow, relaxed gaze dogs give you, often with loose facial muscles and a soft blink, is actually a big deal and a way your dog expresses they care about you. “Research has shown that mutual eye contact between dogs and their humans increases oxytocin, or the bonding hormone, in both species,” Reynolds says.

We’re not talking about intense staring, but rather more demure doe eyes. “In dog-to-dog interactions, prolonged staring can be threatening, but when a dog chooses to look at you gently and often, it means they feel safe and emotionally connected,” Reynolds continues.

You may also notice your dog “checking in” with you during walks or new situations. They might glance back, as if to see if you’re on the same page. “That’s not just good training, it’s social referencing,” he adds. “It reflects a strong emotional bond and confidence in you as a trusted partner.”

Their Body Language is Loose, Goofy and Unfiltered

At the end of the day, dogs can’t fake relaxation, so if their body language is chill, that shows they love you. “When your dog flops onto their back, leans their full weight into you, wiggles when you talk to them or greets you with a whole-body tail wag, that’s emotional honesty at its finest,” Reynolds says. “These cute dog behaviors show vulnerability and comfort, two things dogs only offer when they feel safe and attached.”

While I'd love to say I stay on top of stains as they happen, it doesn't always work out that way. No one, including me, likes lugging out a large carpet cleaner every single time there's a mess. Making spring a little extra egg-citing, this free in-store Easter Egg Hunt is a fun way to elevate your weekend plans while giving your pet some much-needed interaction with others just like them. Featuring an array of hidden eggs with coupons tucked inside, pet parents can expect plenty of festive photo opportunities, complimentary treat samples, coloring pages and a special “Meet the Pets” session.

According to the popular pet chain, 97 percent of pet parents consider their pets part of the family, making Easter the perfect time to include them in those cherished traditions. On April 4, shoppers can stop by between 10 am and 2 pm to enjoy the interactive egg hunt, with the first 50 pet parents scoring eggs that include a same-day coupon worth up to $20 off an in-store purchase.

Adding to the excitement, the special “Meet the Pets” session gives pet parents a chance to meet small pets available for adoption and learn about their daily care from PetSmart associates.

"We believe celebrating and capturing special moments with your pet shouldn't require a big budget," senior vice president of marketing at PetSmart Bradley Breuer said. "Our Easter Egg Hunt and activities give pet parents a fun and free interactive community experience to include their pets in traditions while discovering everything they need to make the holiday memorable."

There are smart cats. There are chaotic cats. And then there are Orange Cats, who somehow manage to be both at the same time in ways that feel… slightly concerning.

The unbelievable video was posted on the @katiefraime49 TikTok account, and it shows an Orange Cat standing on a kitchen counter doing something I personally didn't know kitties were capable of.

He is opening a crockpot.

Not sniffing it. Not pawing at it. Fully engineering a solution.

Using his body weight and paws, he presses on the latch and nudges it forward until the lid loosens, all while his gray Tabby brother stands behind him like a hype man witnessing greatness.

I swear this looks exactly like my Maine Coon, Meatball, just… smaller and slightly more committed to crime.

The people who left comments absolutely lost it.

“I’m a full-grown woman and can barely open the crockpot.”

“I’m so glad my cats are stupid.”

“Orange Cat engineer! Of course, he’s a mechanical engineer!”

Others were less impressed and more concerned.

“This is why I don’t eat at potluck lunches!”

And one person pointed out something surprisingly helpful.

“You are not supposed to use the latches for cooking. They are for transporting. It can cause pressure, and the lid could shatter.”

So not only is this kitty chaotic, but he might also be the only one in the room following proper crockpot safety guidelines.

The cat mom later explained she now has to use her crockpot in the garage, which honestly feels like the only logical next step when you live with a tiny orange genius who has discovered appliances.

And then there was this comment, which sparked a whole different debate.

“I have two cats, and counters are off-limits. They have a clear understanding.”

Sure. OK. That sounds nice. Congratulations to you.

And if your kitty has already figured out how to operate small kitchen appliances, it may be time to accept that you are no longer in charge.

And let's not forget those perfectly pointed ears and his big, soulful eyes. He's like another version of Scooby-Doo vibes, but better. This good boy is doing an excellent job showcasing why rescue dogs are the absolute best.

This handsome gentleman is more than happy to wear a costume or do whatever Mom asks of him. Unfortunately, he spent two long years in a shelter before someone noticed what a doll he is and gave him the second chance he needed. Since then, the rescue pup has been livin' la vida loca in luxury!

Not long ago, Ryder became a viral sensation for his sweet donkey noises. He makes them when he's ready for bed (in the cutest jammies) and wants Mom to tuck him in. I've watched this video no less than 25 times, and it's better each time.

I'll always be an advocate for rescuing a dog, especially as my senior pup sits across the room dreaming away. Sure, we saved his life at a time he seemed to have given up, but in the three years since that kismet meeting, he's saved mine, too.

With shelters so overcrowded, there's no better time than now to add a new companion to your home. These pups have so much going for them—and you might even find a full-breed doggie who would cost a gazillion dollars from a breeder—and they're deserving of a happy ending.

Aside from the fact that rescue dogs are typically ready to go (vaccinated, spayed/neutered, etc.), you'll never find a love like what they're capable of giving. And you might even get them to don a costume to show off their best features (like those floppy ears on Ryder)!
