In the TikTok from @meetmonty_, the precious pooch walked toward the camera a little hesitantly, then hit his stride. Despite missing his front left leg, Monty mastered the hardwood floor with each careful step.

"Building strength and confidence!" the onscreen text raved, with the caption adding, "Better and better every day!"

Responding to a follower's question, the post explained how Monty was born a leg that needed to be removed.

"His leg was underdeveloped! So for his safety it was amputated. He is already building so much muscle in his chest and other legs," the TikTok creator shared.

Tips for a Fun and Safe Swim Day With Your Dog

Not all dogs love to swim, especially breeds with flat faces (Bulldogs, Pugs), but for those who do, safety is a priority. Here are a few things to remember if you're planning a day at the beach or pool with your pup:

• Check the water before letting an excited dog jump right in to be sure there are no broken things like glass or sharp shells, or toxic blue-green algae. If it looks foamy, discolored, or just plain weird, it's best to avoid it.
• A properly fitted life jacket offers buoyancy when fatigue starts to set in.
• Teach your dog all the exits near steps or a ladder, so they know where to go if they start to panic.
• Offer fresh water for them to drink as needed to prevent them from gulping down ocean, lake, or pool water, which can make them sick.
• They may not want to take a break, but enforce mandatory breaks (or they'll play all day).
• If it's really hot, protect their paws from burning concrete by cooling off in the shade and/or fitting them with doggy boots.
• Post-swim, rinse them off to remove salt, chlorine, or anything else that can cause irritation. This includes cleaning their ears!

TikToker Pinay Cowgirl is an equestrian and breeder dedicated to raising curly-haired horses. She recently shared a video of her young colt, Curltavius, who is in the process of being weaned from his mom. Describing him as "bold," she introduced him to his dad in the pasture for the first time, hoping the older horse would teach the youngster some manners.

Curltavius, however, is used to spending all his time with the mares and clearly hasn't learned much about personal space. The moment he gets up in his dad's business, he's quickly and appropriately corrected, leaving the curious colt looking completely caught off guard. While Pinay had hoped to share a teaching moment, viewers were far more focused on Curltavius's unique coloring and feisty attitude.

That observation actually helps explain Curltavius's adorable "earmuff" look. According to Cowgirl Magazine, Medicine Hat horses have a mostly white face with a colored patch covering the ears and top of the head. The distinctive markings were highly prized by many Native American tribes.

Legend says Medicine Hat horses possessed the magical ability to protect their riders from injury and death in battle and would even warn them when danger was near. Whether or not that's true, one thing is certain—Curltavius has already won the internet over with his one-of-a-kind look and unforgettable personality.

Why Do Fireflies Glow?

Marc Branham, an assistant professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida, explains that fireflies produce light through a chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which generates almost no heat, making it one of nature's most efficient light sources.

This incident is really bringing new meaning to the phrase "cat burglar." A man who robbed a bank decided to steal a kitten from an adoption center first, making her his unwilling accomplice in his crime.

According to a local NBC affiliate, the man grabbed the kitten from the adoption area of a Pet Supplies Plus store in Beltsville, Maryland, before robbing the bank next door, and unsurprisingly, he caused complete chaos in the process.

Employees at the store sprang into action, and as worker Aaron Kurkowski explained in the news report, he was in the process of calling the police to report that the kitten, whose name is Magnolia, had been stolen when they arrived in the parking lot for the bank robbery that was in progress.

"I was completely thrown off," he admitted. Uh, ya think?!

CBS News added that the robber had been watching Magnolia for weeks at the store and was able to steal her from her kennel after swiping an employee's keys. From there, he headed to PNC Bank, but he wasn't there very long before the police arrived.

She's a very cute (and very tiny) tuxedo cat, so I totally get why someone would want to steal her... but despite the fact that it looks like she's wearing a mask, I don't know if she's prepared to enter the world of crime at just three months old!

Where the Stolen Kitten Is Now

This story has a happy ending: Not only was the robber apprehended by police, but Magnolia was found safe and sound in the bank manager's office.

Now, she's being cared for by an organization called Beltsville Community Cats, and according to the rescue's most recent posts on Facebook, she's still looking for her forever home and she has a loving personality to go with that adorable little face.

"Sweet, playful, and always purring, she loves cuddles, adventures, and being close to her people," says the rescue's description of Magnolia. "She'd thrive in a home with a playful feline friend to match her energy. If you're looking for a loving, fun companion, Magnolia is ready to steal your heart!"

If you find yourself in the position where you find a stray or potentially abandoned kitten, the first step is to assess the situation. Is mama cat nearby? Are there any immediate threats to keep them away from? This helps you determine what to do next.

The biggest threat to kittens is the cold and hypothermia. Immediately make sure the kitten has access to warmth or wrap them in something like a towel. Especially if they're also wet. Never feed a kitten that you're trying to get warm, as it can be dangerous for them. Heating pads can also be helpful, but make sure they do not overheat.

If the kitten is over the age of 5 weeks, they can typically eat wet food. Kittens below that age require bottle feeding every two to three hours.

The best course of action if you find yourself in this situation is to contact a local rescue or a vet. The experts are your best resource and can help you and the kittens figure out the best course(s) of action.

Why Cats Are So Fascinated by Butterflies and Other Flying Insects

Joey Tribbiani is very interested in the butterfly that's hanging out on the ceiling of their home, and while many of us wouldn't pay the insect much mind, thanks to their instinctual behavior, cats are fascinated by them and other flying insects. 

According to PetMD, cats like to watch bugs because they resemble other species they've typically hunted. Seeing an insect move really fast activates their hunting instincts, even though they don't really "hunt" it to eat, as they might a rodent or bird. 

Butterflies and other flying insects look similar to birds in that they have wings and move fast. All traits that will get a kitty to zero in and go for the chase... or the rescue, in this case. 

We don't see whether Joey Tribbiani succeeds at the end of the clip in rescuing the rogue butterfly, but we can see how quickly his instincts kick in and how much trust he places in his teammate.

Some dogs wag their tails when they see a treat. Rolo has his own signature move. The moment he sees a treat coming, his front paws start going, quick and happy little stomps, like he physically cannot contain himself.

What makes those stomps even cuter is where Rolo's story began. The sweet boy was found abandoned by a dumpster.

A Boy Who Deserves Better Than a Dumpster

Pit bulls like Rolo are among the most misunderstood dogs in shelters. They tend to stay longer, even when they're gentle, social, and full of personality. Rolo checks all those boxes. He's affectionate, responsive, and food-motivated in the most endearing way possible.

In the TikTok from @humanebroward, the adorable black-and-white cat stuck his paw out of his cage to "hold hands" with one of the shelter staff members. Gato recently ended up at the shelter when his family relocated.

The 1 1/2-year old cat is obviously a love bug and thrives on attention. Gato leaned into every bit of affection he got from the staff member.

Some dogs spend their whole lives barking at squirrels, announcing the mailman's arrival or proudly showing off their best howl. Others never really get the chance to discover their voice at all.

In the video, Bruce hesitates at first, letting out tiny little attempts before stopping himself. His mom keeps softly "wooing" back, patiently encouraging him without any pressure.

Then, finally...Bruce lets out the gentlest, sweetest little woo.

As if that wasn't enough to melt everyone's heart, he immediately grabs his beloved Lamb Chop toy, almost like he needs a little emotional support after such a brave moment.

Dogs rescued from puppy mills often need months, and sometimes years, to adjust to life in a loving home. Many have had very little positive interaction with people and may never have experienced simple things like toys, soft beds, affection or the freedom to express themselves.

Building confidence takes patience, consistency and allowing each dog to move at their own pace. Small victories, whether it's learning to play, wagging a tail more freely or, in Bruce's case, finding the courage to let out a tiny little woo, are worth celebrating.

After more than a decade of being a cat mom to two kitties who are only a couple of years apart in age, I can say that a lot of times, the way they play together makes it look like they hate each other. According to what Angus and Romie's human said, these two fight like this "at least five hours a day," and it looks like it's a good way for them to wear themselves out, if nothing else.

Just two balls of fluff, having the best time — even if, to the untrained eye, it might look like they don't like each other. Cat people know better!

Besides, play fighting is very important to cats and their development, especially as kittens. As My Lovely Feline points out, cats will fight with each other as a way of playing with the other cats in the household, and you'll be able to tell when it's just a game if they don't bring out their claws.

Just remember not to break up the fight yourself if you can tell your kitties are playing. It's important to their development to make sure they can have these interactions with other cats.
