If there's one universal law all moms understand—even animals—it's that nothing is more important than the love of your child. Losing them is total devastation, leaving an infinite void that can't be replaced.

Agnus, the mother cow, knows this to her core. She's not only her herd's resident caregiver, but she's also a heartbroken mother grieving the sudden loss of her calf, Clover. In what can only be described as a gut-wrenching scene, Agnus says goodbye (grab the tissues for this one).

Anderson Farms knows a thing or two about raising affectionate animals who feel deeply and love their herd. But Agnus bellowing out cries of pain over losing her child is too much.

"She is broken. She keeps calling for her baby over and over, waiting for the answer she knows so well. She licked her sweet Clovie, loved on her, and my heart broke all over again," the caption reads in part.

It all began on June 28, when Clover was barely a week old and human mom, Emily, discovered the lethargic calf had a fever, refusing to get up. The family did everything they could, including multiple rounds of IV fluids, vet checks, and TLC.

Aside from an infected umbilical cord, the baby caught a viral infection. With Clover away for treatment, Agnus' heart had already started breaking. The next day, the sweet calf seemed well enough to go home to her mama, and Agnus was thrilled.

Unfortunately, mere hours later, Clover went downhill. With so many unknowns, they did all they could to keep her comfortable with cooling vests and mats, but the days that followed would prove to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

They loaded Clover up and took her to the University of Missouri, 3 hours away, to figure out the next steps, but the test results showed that Clover was fighting something no one knew how to stop. So, home she went, back to her loving mom who'd been crying out for her baby the whole time.

Sadly, Clover passed just before the plans for her came to fruition. As devastating as it must've felt bringing her home for Agnus to grieve, it's a way to help the mama cow understand and process her grief.

June 21 marked Clover's official introduction to the world via social media, and right away, this little girl with the infectious personality won everyone over. While other cows in the herd weren't instant fans of the new calf, Mama Agnus got straight to work hiding little Clover in places even her humans couldn't find.

From day 1, Agnus was a fiercely devoted and protective mother who did everything she could to keep her baby safe, even against all odds, and we know she'll be so missed.

How Animals Experience Loss and Mourning

Like humans, animals feel loss and mourn their loved ones, sometimes in ways that resemble our own pain. Through behavioral and physiological changes like Agnus' loud cries, withdrawal, loss of appetite, and general loss of interest in all things they normally enjoy, they're telling us they're hurting.

Also, like us, it's the loss of a bond that changes an animal's brain chemistry, causing disruptive sleep patterns with an increase in stress hormones like cortisol.

Clover's human family will grieve the little cow much like all the fans rooting for her recovery. But a mother’s love is a mother’s love, and Clover was so beyond loved by Agnus that it'll be challenging to find a new normal without her.

Maybe that's the thing about parenting: Once you know the love of a child, there is no "normal" without them. And that's heartbreaking, but also a beautiful gift to have experienced it at all.

Truffle the Bernedoodle is a Bernedoodle, of course, while Snoopy is a Beagle. However, the mostly white face and black nose on Truffle are definitely making them look similar, especially when his ears flop over.

Truffle is an almost 2-year-old Ultra-Merle Bernedoodle, which is a mouthful, but basically just means he's:

Are Bernedoodles Good Dogs?

Truffle the Bernedoodle is one of the coolest dogs I've ever seen: he's so cool that it almost makes me want a Bernedoodle! However, I just know this is not a breed that will ever work for me, as much as I'd love one!

Bernedoodles are generally very good dogs! They do well with kids, other dogs, cats, and even strangers most of the time. They're super friendly. However, they can also be a little bit tough to manage! They need:

• A lot of exercise.
• Extensive, regular grooming.
• Consistent training.

These dogs are highly intelligent, which can be both a blessing and a curse: they're easy to train, but they also learn where your lax points are, and they'll use that to their advantage!

My dogs immediately know when they've done something wrong. They both get that guilty expression on their faces that gives them away. My senior Dachshund can barely look me in the eye, and my Pug mix tries to feign innocence with those adorable big brown eyes but can never fully pull it off.

Maars the Poodle seemed completely stunned when his mom had a firm talk with him in the car about a sensitive issue that needed correction.

In the TikTok from @tiaonnataylor, Maars and his mom sat in the car to have a heart-to-heart. Apparently, the precious Poodle went outside to do his business but got sidetracked, and not for the first time.

"Every morning it's a performance, and I'm tired," the on-screen text shared.

"You just can't come outside and use the bathroom and mind your business," his mom began in a stern tone. "What is the problem? Every day, multiple times a day, you're coming out here and you're embarrassing me. What is so hard about minding your business?"

The fluffy fur baby had a completely flabbergasted expression that seemed to say, "I have no idea what you're talking about." The look on his cottony white face was even more pronounced due to the contrasting black color of his ears. Still, Maars's charm didn't stop his mom from letting him have it.

"All you've got to do is come out here, and pee and poop," she explained, then mimicked his incessant bark. "But you come out here, and 'ruffruffruffruff' every day."

Maars didn't take kindly to her impersonation of him and looked away in annoyance. He was probably thinking, "I do not sound like that".

Poodles Are Highly Intelligent

His mom continued her tirade as Maars calmly listened though he clearly acted like she was speaking about someone else.

Followers advocated for the canine cutie and compared him to an iconic cartoon dog:

• "That’s a fluffy Snoopy!! He’s so cute," one remarked.
• "As his therapist after all this trauma at your hands I am recommending 2 pup cup visits weekly for 6 months, and belly rubs 5 times a day," another instructed.
• "I’m sorry, but I’m on his side," someone noted.

Chances are, Maars was fully aware of what his mom said. Poodles are considered one of the smartest dog breeds and have the potential to understand as many as 400 words, where other breeds come in at approximately 150.

Hopefully Maars and his mom can reach an understanding so this sensitive situation won't have to cause any more friction.

TikToker Ghost Panther (@_ghostpanther) is usually out exploring Australia's wilderness in search of elusive big cats. But during a hike through the Blue Mountains in June, he stumbled upon something even more unexpected: a rare lyrebird, and was immediately captivated.

At first glance, the bird looks like something straight out of a fantasy movie. As it strutted through the Australian bush with its unusual shape, striking plumage, and almost prehistoric appearance, viewers (ourselves included) couldn't quite figure out what they were looking at. The remarkable encounter has wildlife lovers doing a double take since these birds are known to be extremely elusive and shy. "Setting up a cat-friendly home and being a predictable and positive presence in your cat’s daily life is the best way to position yourself as their primary source of comfort," Dr. Cahn says. "One of the best ways to keep affection positive is to let your cat guide the interaction and respect their body language when they have had enough."

Your cat will show you signs that they rely on you to be there for them in times of need, but they may be sneaky about it. Many cats are masters in the art of subtlety, after all. Here are some expert-backed telltale clues your cats find comfort in you that you mght not notice.

1. They nap on or near you

One adorable sign your cat trusts you is where they choose to sleep. Cats love their naps (hence the term "cat naps). However, kitties are rather particular about where they sleep because Dr. Cahn says it's such a vulnerable state for them. "When a cat settles on or near you, they are showing that they feel safe in your presence," Dr. Cahn says.

Dr. Cahn adds that cats may get comfort from our warmth, touch and familiar scent, helping them sleep a little tighter. It's like you're their hero.

2. They rub against you

You may notice that your cat is always rubbing against everything—furniture, a scratcher or your rug. But why does a cat rub against you? Cats rub with purpose. Dr. Cahn explains that they have scent glands in their cheeks, chin and the top of their head. These glands deposit pheromone markers every time a cat rubs.

"When a cat rubs against you, they are marking you with their scent as familiar and safe, which is often a true sign of affection and trust," Dr. Cahn reports.

So while this may be a strange cat behavior to you, it's actually a sign your cat loves you and their way of telling you.

3. They lick you

Dogs aren't the only animals that lick to show affection—cats do it too. In fact, if your cat feels safe with you, Dr. Cahn says they'll perform this form of "allogrooming," which is a a social bonding behavior they typically reserve for other felines in their colony. It's quite the compliment if your cat decides to lick you for this reason. "This is a cat trust sign that they consider you a true member of their family," Dr. Cahn says.

That said, Dr. Cahn clarifies that some cats lick because they like the taste of the salt on your skin or out of habit. "The meaning can vary a bit from cat to cat," Dr. Cahn says.

4. They come to you after hiding

Many cats will run and hide when something scares them, such as strangers walking in the door, a car backfiring or when they don't feel well. However, Dr. Cahn emphasizes you don't need to be offended if this happens a lot as hiding is normally a cat's "first natural instinct if they feel frightened."

How do cats show comfort and affection in these stuations? If you are your cat's first stop after they come out of hiding, it's a clue your cat feels a deep sense of security in you.

"If your cat comes to you after they emerge, it is a strong sign that they find your presence to be comforting and reassuring," Dr. Cahn says. How sweet is that?

5. They vocalize when they need something

You may be your cat's favorite person if they talk to you and express their emotions. In fact, Dr. Cahn says adult felines will generally reserve a meow only for their humans and not strangers. "Cats may meow to communicate their needs to you, whether it’s food, play or social interaction," Dr. Cahn says.

This shows that your cat feels protected by you and bonded to you. Therefore, they know if they get your attention, you will help keep them safe and help them when they need it.

"Increased vocalization can also be a sign of pain or illness and should be brought to your vet’s attention if it is new, persistent or accompanied by other symptoms," Dr. Cahn says.

6. They like snuggles

Cat-human companionship can be tricky, but Dr. Cahn adds that some cats show they trust their pet parents by letting them hold them.

"Seeking you out for physical contact is a sure sign that your cat is comforted by and enjoys your presence," Dr. Cahn says. "When a cat relaxes in response to your touch, it means they are truly comfortable with you."

For Boomer, a senior rescue horse, settling into life at Fabled Farm Rescue, that moment came with long ears.

Are Merle Cockapoos Rare?

Cockapoos come in a variety of colors, including black, white, cream, apricot, tan, red, golden, and chocolate, and all of those colors can come in different shades.

However, the merle coat in Cockapoos is the rarest of all the colorings, as neither a purebred Cocker Spaniel nor a Poodle has this coat color.

It's acquired through the merle gene, which affects how color is distributed through a dog's fur, according to UK Pets.

It creates patches of light and dark fur throughout the coat, creating a marbled effect.

The merle gene is a semi-dominant mutation, which means that the puppy offspring of the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle only needs to inherit this gene from one parent in order to have merle coloring.

The merle pattern is always random, which means no two merle Cockapoos are alike!

Two merle-patterned Cockapoos should not be bred together, though, because it can increase the risk for vision and hearing problems in the offspring.

There are different merle types of Cockapoos, including blue merle (with a base color of black), chocolate merle (with a base color of chocolate), and red merle (with a base of liver).

Vantara is a wildlife rescue in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat, India. They recently invited Plumes, a musician and wildlife advocate known for traveling the world with his signature pink guitar and singing popular songs for animals to highlight their emotional sensitivity, to perform for one of their resident hippos. Nobody expected the animal to respond the way it did.

Can Wild Animals Respond to Music?

We agreed with the commenter who wrote, "I love it so much that music is such a draw for all of us." Another viewer, @frankknowsbest, made an interesting point, asking, "Why don’t zoos and sanctuaries play music for animals? This guy has repeatedly proven that they all love and respond to it."

While there's limited evidence that wild animals enjoy human music the same way we do, many are naturally curious about unfamiliar sounds, which could explain why the hippo was so captivated by Plumes' performance.

Singer-songwriter Hannah Trigwell highlighted research by an animal psychologist at the University of Wisconsin–Madison who found that animals may actually prefer what's known as "species-specific music." She explains that this refers to music "specially designed using pitches, tones and tempos that are familiar to a particular animal's species."

Whether the hippo was appreciating the melody or simply investigating something new, we'll probably never know. But one thing's for sure: he was one very attentive audience member for this solo performance.

Dachshunds are already famous for their long bodies, but one remarkable pup has taken that signature look to a whole new level, leaving the internet doing a double take. Meet Oscar Wilde, a Dachshund whose extra-long length has earned him the unofficial title of the world's longest Dachshund.

Why Are Dachshunds So Long?

According to Animal World, the average Dachshund measures about 16 to 17 inches long. Oscar, on the other hand, stretches nearly 3 feet from nose to tail. As the site points out, "That is longer than most toddlers are tall."

When his mom adopted him, she didn't know exactly what was going on with his body. The vets who first saw him couldn't quite solve it either, which isn't exactly what you expect when you bring home a new cat. However, his new mom is a vet nurse at an animal shelter, so Morris chose wisely.

In the video, he hops down like any normal kitty would, except halfway through the landing, his body stiffens, and he seems to "faint" mid-move. It's startling for about a second, and then, once you know he's OK, it becomes one of the strangest and most fascinating little cat clips you'll ever see.

His new mom later took him to a specialist, who had heard of myotonia congenita, often compared to "fainting goat syndrome," but had never actually seen a cat with it in person. That alone tells you how unusual Morris is. Orange Cats are already rare in terms of logic, but Morris brought a documented medical mystery to the group project.

The episodes, his mom explained in the post, tend to happen mostly after he has been resting for a bit. So one minute Morris is lounging like a tiny tangerine king, and the next, his muscles do something completely unexpected.

A comment summed up the absurdity perfectly by asking if this family somehow had both a fainting goat and a T. rex. I don't know what else is going on in that house, but Morris clearly has enough personality to count as at least two species.

The best part, though, is that Morris isn't suffering through these episodes the way the video might make people fear at first glance. The TikTok from @franflight told Cleo's tragic story as a NAWS staff member cuddled with the pretty kitty to give her some comfort.

"Cleo's heartbreak is felt by all of us," the on-screen text shared. "She's 13 years old, and has lost the only family she has ever known."

After the death of Cleo's parent, the sweet feline was taken by animal control and brought to NAWS.

"Cleo's [parent] passed away unexpectedly," the story continued. "With no one left to care for her, animal control had to remove her from her home. She not only lost her favorite person, she lost every single constant in her life."

This wasn't Cleo's first time at NAWS. She was actually adopted from the shelter when she was just a kitten, and NAWS was still listed as a contact. The staff noted that her age and shy nature may cause her to be overlooked for adoption.

How to Make a Plan for Your Pet's Future

Our pets are family members who need to be cared for if we are no longer able, so proper planning ensures their safety. Some essential steps include:

• Designate a caregiver who can take your pet in your absence.
• Allocate a fund in the caregiver's name to pay for your pet's needs.
• Make sure the caregiver has all your pet's vital information, including veterinary contact, health records, allergy and medication details, food brands and amounts, exercise schedule, pet insurance policy, and any fears or anxieties that need to be addressed.
• Place "In Case of Emergency" signs on doors and windows in your home with the number of pets you have, along with the caregiver's contact information. Also carry a card in your wallet with these details.

Planning ahead for your pet equips them for a smoother transition if the unexpected happens.

Every now and then, a rescue story comes along that tips the earth on its axis, and this is one of them. Miller was surrendered to the shelter by his family, through no fault of his own, and his presence captivated all who met him.

On Thursday, July 2, @cay9crusader noted that he saw a video of "Miller's gigantic head, tap dancing in his kennel begging for someone, anyone to notice him," with a timestamp 2 hours past the euthanasia deadline.

"Not again. Not another one I couldn't get to in time," he wrote. He hasn't yet recovered from losing another shelter dog he couldn't get to in time and needed a break from rescuing to grieve, adding, "My heart couldn't take another loss."

What he didn't know was how many people came together behind the scenes to keep Miller alive until someone could swoop in to save him.

"Thanks to the blazingly fast efforts of @lovecloudhaven, @montanaspack, @itchysfriends, and some incredible volunteers at BARC, Miller made it out. He's safe. He's here. And he's currently learning how to be a Stage 5 clinger," he captioned a follow-up post.

He wrote: "I'm fostering Miller in honor of JJ, and every single one we couldn't get to in time. Their stories don't end at that shelter door. They live on in every dog we pull after them. We can't save them all, but we're going to try like hell to."

Described as "the cutest couch buddy" who "couldn't be any sweeter and gentler," the Staffy with the cutest "block head" won everyone over with his little cries and joyous tippy taps—including his hero team of saviors who intervened in the nick of time.

The sweet pup loves scratches, gets along with everyone, and instantly became a fan favorite who deserves every second of this new chapter.
