Original Star Left Beloved Classic Film After ‘Terrifying’ Costume Mishap Led to Serious Emergency

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 9:28pm

Before Jack Haley brought the Tin Man to life in the beloved classic movie The Wizard of Oz, the role belonged to Buddy Ebsen. But unfortunately, a dangerous reaction to the character’s original metallic makeup forced the actor to leave the production after what he later described as a "terrifying" and life-threatening experience.

Ebsen, who would go on to become a television icon on The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones, was originally cast as the Scarecrow in the 1939 film, with Ray Bolger in the role of the Tin Man. But after Bolger asked to swap parts because he had a personal love for the Scarecrow, Ebsen agreed, and the rest is history.

In order to transform the actor into the character’s iconic silver look, makeup artists dusted Ebsen's face and body with fine aluminum powder. Everything seemed fine as Ebsen did tests for the costume, recorded all the songs, rehearsed his scenes, and started filming the movie.

But 10 days into shooting, Ebsen was hospitalized due to damage he suffered from repeatedly inhaling the toxic aluminum powder, which made it extremely difficult for him to breathe.

It was a serious situation, and filming stopped as they looked for a replacement actor, later hiring Haley. While Haley would become known as the Tin Man in the film, Ebsen's vocals as the Tin Man are still in a number of the songs. After the medical emergency, the aluminum dust was reformulated into a paste, and thankfully, Haley never suffered any serious injury from the costume.

In a note Ebsen later wrote to a journalist about the experience, via People, he explained how the production team struggled to get the costume right, saying, "When they finally got the effect they wanted with my makeup, I took a deep breath of relief. Unfortunately, two weeks later, I could hardly breathe at all."

After the week and a half of shooting, Ebsen was unable to breathe, saying, "This was a most frightening moment ... My lungs felt as though someone had coated them with glue."

"I wondered if I was dying," Ebsen admitted. The doctors discovered that the aluminum dust had coated his lungs after the extended exposure, but at the time, people thought it was "harmless." He spent over a month recovering before he could go home.

Ebsen never mentioned having any long-term effects from the exposure, and he died in 2003 at the age of 95.

1972 Soft Rock Classic, a Hit Before It Was Even Released, Became a No. 1 Smash

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 9:12pm

Looking Glass turned a simple story about a lonely harbor-town barmaid into one of the biggest hits of the 1970s, but “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” nearly took a very different path before it reached No. 1.

Released in 1972 on the band’s self-titled debut album, the soft rock classic eventually topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 charts. But according to songwriter Elliot Lurie, the song’s rise began when one radio station started playing it heavily before Epic Records had even officially released it as a single.

At the time, Looking Glass had already released a different song from the album as its first single, hoping for a more rock-oriented introduction. It went nowhere.

Then Washington, D.C. radio programmer Harv Moore heard “Brandy.”

According to Lurie, Epic Records promotion staff encouraged Moore to listen beyond the original single choice. Once “Brandy” landed on the airwaves at powerhouse Top 40 station WPGC, listeners responded almost immediately.

“We got a call the next day from the head of promotions,” Lurie recalled in a 2016 interview with The Tennessean. “The phones are lighting up like Christmas trees in Washington. You’ve got a hit record here.”

The response became so intense that “Brandy” reportedly reached No. 1 in Washington based largely on radio demand before copies of the single had even arrived in stores.

The song itself told the story of a barmaid working in a busy harbor town, surrounded by sailors but longing for one man who loved the sea more than he loved her. Lurie later revealed that the name “Brandy” came from a high school girlfriend named Randy, though the character in the song was fictional.

Over the years, the track inspired multiple urban legends, including rumors that it was based on a real New Jersey woman waiting for a sailor to return. Lurie denied the story, calling it “a remarkable coincidence.”

“Brandy” found new life decades later after it appeared prominently in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the film, Kurt Russell’s character famously describes the song as “possibly Earth’s finest composition,” helping introduce the track to a new generation of listeners.

Even after all these years, the song remains Looking Glass’ defining hit and one of the most recognizable soft rock classics of the era.

1996 Hit Action Movie, Filmed on Restricted United States Land, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 30 Years Later

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 9:02pm

Nearly 30 years after its release, The Rock is once again capturing audiences, this time on streaming.

The action thriller directed by Michael Bay has climbed into the top 10 most-streamed movies on Tubi in the United States, introducing a new generation to one of the defining action films of the 1990s.

Released in 1996, The Rock stars screen legend Sean Connery as former British intelligence operative John Mason and Nicolas Cage as Stanley Goodspeed, an FBI chemical weapons expert forced into a desperate mission to stop a rogue military takeover of Alcatraz Island.

The movie also featured an impressive supporting cast, including Ed Harris, David Morse, Michael Biehn and William Forsythe.

One especially fascinating aspect of the film's production is that portions were filmed on highly restricted U.S. government property, including areas connected to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary and military-controlled land rarely accessible to Hollywood productions at the time.

The film's gritty realism and high-stakes atmosphere were helped by those real-world locations, giving the movie a level of authenticity that stood out even in an era packed with blockbuster action films.

At the time, The Rock also marked a major turning point for Bay, arriving before he became synonymous with massive franchise filmmaking. The movie's blend of practical stunts, explosive action and fast-paced storytelling helped establish the visual style that would later define much of his career.

"I was very young doing that movie," Bay told Fandangoin 2017. "I remember the very first day [Connery] is dressed dark in long hair and he's in an interrogation room. And I remember I was so scared to give him my first bit of direction. I said, 'Uh, Mr. Sean, could you do that a little less charming?' That was my first bit of direction to him, and he goes, 'Sure, boy.'"

Meanwhile, Connery's performance carried extra weight for many viewers, with some fans long speculating that his character was secretly an older version of James Bond, a theory that has persisted for decades. Whether or not it's true, Connery left his mark on more than just his audience.

"[Connery] taught me how to slow down and rehearse the scene with the actors," said Bay. "He just taught me a lot. His work ethic was amazing. He's just a consummate actor."

Now, with audiences rediscovering the film through streaming, The Rock is proving that classic action movies still have staying power.

Its resurgence on Tubi highlights how '90s thrillers continue finding new fans, especially when they combine charismatic stars, unforgettable action sequences and just enough real-world intrigue to make the story feel larger than life.

‘90s Metal Icon Reveals Frightening Health Condition After Tour

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:53pm

After more than two decades of redefining the heavy metal scene, a member of Slipknot revealed a heartbreaking announcement concerning his health.

Celebrated for the band’s nu-metal sound and aggressive, high-intensity live performances, the group celebrated its 25th anniversary with the Here Comes the Pain Tour in 2025.

However, following a string of successful shows, percussionist Shawn 'Clown' Crahan shared how their jam-packed touring schedule has taken a toll on his health.

During his guest appearance on the podcast Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin, Slipknot’s longtime member shared that doctors advised him he needed heart surgery.

"I have a skipping heart and I got to get surgery,” he revealed on the show, as cited by Blunt Magazine. “And I found this out after my last tour.”

Clown detailed the journey he went through and what prompted him to seek help.

“I went in, I wasn’t feeling good, and I went in and the nurse was trying to get an EKG thing going on and it just wasn’t happening,” the musician explained, adding, “I kind of fell asleep and I woke up. I’m like, “Are you going to get this thing?” And she’s like, “Oh, it’s not working.” They thought I was having a heart attack right there. My heart skips and apparently I’ve taught myself to be like a cross-country runner.”

The 56-year-old band member and one of the founders of the iconic metal group talked about how dangerously low his heart rate can become due to his condition.

“I’m overweight and my brain is so strong that it tells this stuff what to do,” he shared. “My standing heart rate at night is 43 and during the day I get down to 33.’

Crahan continued, expressing his plans to undergo the surgery and made a lighthearted joke that he would still be playing with the band once the recovery period was over.

“I got to get a surgery. It’s a very easy surgery,” the percussionist furthered. “You’re usually out on the same day. It’s not like they rip you open. This is something about the electricity. I just I lost it. I was like, I can’t get out of this to save my life,’ he laughed. ‘I’m like, there is nothing, not even my heart. It’s going to be better because of Slipknot.’

Besides Clown, a few Slipknot members have also faced health problems, including late drummer Joey Jordison, who suffered from transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition.

Taylor Frankie Paul Fiercely Defends Herself in a Candid Mother’s Day Post

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:38pm

Not even two weeks after The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Taylor Frankie Paul and ex Dakota Mortensen made news with their recent courtroom drama, the reality TV star isn’t holding anything back in a frank Instagram post.

Instead of the typical “Have a happy Mother’s Day” that’s plastered everywhere online, Paul chose to use the day to release her frustration. Along with a carousel of photos featuring her children, she wrote, “It’s Mother’s Day so I’ll say whatever I want. As if it’s not already the worst time. I still have “friends” kicking me while I’m already down and calling it “setting a boundary” and then blames me for being upset and responding.”

View this post on Instagram

Paul continues the lengthy post, “Not once have I called myself a “victim” but I’m human and have breaking points. What a snake friend just did to me in the public eye after everything she just witnessed…the lack of empathy and silence was loud enough. Did you see the hearing? Did you see the bruises?”

If you’re not all caught up on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives drama, the “snake friend” Paul refers to is reportedly castmate Mikayla Matthews. So what caused the clear rift between the two this time? The answer seems to include a series of statements.

When @themormonwivesreport Instagram account posted that Jessi Draper had liked a comment “saying MomTok has been lacking when it comes to supporting both her and Taylor Frankie Paul,” Matthews added, “Interesting.” But, according to Paul’s post, that’s not the only thing that set her off.

Mathews also added a lengthy comment on another social media post, which, per Paul’s recent statement, brought up “picking sides,” setting “a boundary,” and a “concern for the children.” Taylor fiercely fired back, writing, “I’ve missed more events, girls nights and opportunities to stay home with my kids more than some could ever say.” She ended with a bit of an explainer, saying, “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. Of course I’m spiraling…people calling me out yet I can’t respond? Exactly what I will NOT be tolerating ever again.”

Support for Paul poured in from friends and fans. Draper commented, “You know how much I love you. Not many have seen the behind the scenes but I have and I understand firsthand. I’m so sorry and you’ll be back stronger and happier than ever.” Motherhood and lifestyle influencer Jamie Kelly added, “I can tell you’re really hurting right now. I’m sorry you’re carrying so much pain. I truly believe that unless someone has lived through certain things themselves, they can’t understand how deeply trauma and hurt can affect a person emotionally.”

The necklace features a delicate strand of luminous freshwater pearls designed to add a soft, elegant finish to any outfit. It measures 14 inches long with a 4-inch extender, making it easy to customize the fit depending on your neckline. The pearls measure between 5 and 5.5 millimeters, and the piece is finished with a lobster-clasp closure along with stainless steel plated with 18-karat gold.

What makes this necklace especially versatile is its understated design. Instead of feeling overly formal or gaudy, the smaller pearl size gives it a modern, minimalist feel. It works seamlessly with aesthetics like quiet luxury, coastal-grandmother style, bohemian looks, or coquette-inspired outfits.

This necklace looks chic whether you layer it or wear it solo. Its slim profile makes it perfect for stacking with other chains and pendants without looking bulky. ‘Saved by the Bell’ Star Tiffani Thiessen’s Lookalike Daughter Could Be a Mini-Kelly Kapowski

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:40pm

Tiffani Thiessen rose to stardom on Saved by the Bell in her teens as Kelly Kapowski, and now her young daughter looks just like her.

Thiessen, 52, played the iconic Bayside High cheerleader on the beloved teen sitcom from 1989 to 1993, and continued her role as Kapowski on the short-lived series Saved by the Bell: The College Years. Her character finally married Zack Morris in Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas in 1994. (Yes, over 30 years ago!) Of course, her post-Saved by the Bell years led Thiessen not too far away from Bayside High. She landed on Beverly Hills, 90210 as the troublemaker Valerie Malone, where she caused chaos for 5 seasons before departing. These days, Thiessen is thriving as a social media influencer and actress known for sharing her delicious recipes online. However, the proud mama took to Instagram for Mother's Day to celebrate her favorite role: mother.

"My most cherished role…. being their mother ❤️ Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture, mentor, and love," Thiessen captioned the photo, which showed her alongside her children, Harper and Holt. One look at her daughter, Harper, and it's safe to say the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Her daughter could play Kelly Kapowski in a new Saved by the Bell reboot!

Will They Reboot Saved by the Bell Again?

Saved by the Bell was back in action… for a short amount of time, at least. A reboot of the series aired on Peacock for two seasons from November 2020 to December 2021, and starred Thiessen as her beloved character, who was still married to her longtime love, Zack Morris. However, the reboot didn’t stick. When asked if she thought another one was possible, Thiessen spoke candidly.

“I don’t think so. I think they tried it,” she told PEOPLE last year. Even though it didn’t last, Thiessen made it clear she “loved the reboot.”

“It only lasted two seasons, sadly,” she added. “[But] who knows? There are other shows that are in my sort of realm that are further along in possibly getting a reboot.”

2005 Hit Show, Named Longest-Running American Live-Action Sitcom, Is Still Popular 21 Years Later

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:32pm

More than 21 years after its debut, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia remains one of television’s most successful cult comedies, continuing its historic run as the longest-running American live-action sitcom by seasons.

The FX and FXX series first premiered on August 4, 2005, with a simple concept centered around a dysfunctional group of friends running an Irish dive bar in South Philadelphia. What started as a low-budget comedy shot on handheld cameras has grown into one of the most recognizable comedy franchises in modern television.

The series stars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito as “The Gang,” the chaotic owners of Paddy’s Pub.

The comedy continues to attract viewers in 2026, after Season 17 aired in 2025 and Season 18 entered development. Streaming has also helped the show maintain momentum years after its television debut.

Actors Rob McElhenney, Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson and Glenn Howerton are seen filming scenes of season 12 of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' sitcom

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the sitcom currently holds a 94% Tomatometer score and a 91% audience Popcornmeter score. The site describes the series this way: “Depraved underachieving might look easy, but for the egocentric Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Frank and Dee, it's an art form.”

The review summary adds that the characters are “a group of degenerates who loves nothing more than to scheme, conspire, and mostly revel in each other's misery.”

The series was created by Rob McElhenney and co-developed by Glenn Howerton. Early on, the show faced major challenges because of its tiny budget and unknown cast.

The Guardian described the series’ difficult beginnings by writing: “The success of It’s Always Sunny was never guaranteed. It was born only a few months after YouTube, shot on a handheld camera, had a budget of practically nothing and featured a motley crew of out-of-work actors.”

The publication also noted that the sitcom arrived during a major shift in television comedy in 2005, alongside hit shows like The Officeand How I Met Your Mother.

The show’s premise focused on “the exploits of an idiotic, narcissistic group of friends running an Irish dive bar in South Philly who scheme, betray and trick each other – or unfortunate strangers at every turn.”

Over time, the comedy became known for its dark humor, outrageous schemes, and complete refusal to soften its characters. Critics frequently referred to the show as “Seinfeld on crack,” a nickname that followed the series throughout its rise in popularity.

The arrival of Danny DeVito during Season 2 became one of the biggest turning points in the sitcom’s history. The show’s staying power has also been boosted by its cast members finding success outside the series.

Recently, TV Guide ranked It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia among “The 43 Best TV Shows on Hulu Right Now.” The outlet also praised Kaitlin Olson while discussing her ABC procedural series High Potential.

TV Guide wrote: “The great Kaitlin Olson (her other show, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is also on this list) stars in this ABC procedural as Morgan Gillory, a single mother with an IQ of 160.”

Olson has portrayed Dee Reynolds since the sitcom’s first season. Her performance became one of the defining parts of the series as the character evolved into one of the gang’s most chaotic personalities.

Streaming platforms have also introduced the comedy to younger audiences. In December 2025, Disney announced that the series had surpassed one billion streaming hours on Disney+ during 2025.

The sitcom’s influence now stretches beyond television through live performances, books, podcasts and crossover episodes. A crossover with Abbott Elementary aired in 2025 and brought another wave of attention to the long-running comedy.Even after more than two decades, the series continues receiving praise for maintaining its original style. With Season 18 already underway, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia continues proving why it remains one of the most enduring comedy series in television history.

Barack Obama Shares Throwback Mother’s Day Pic of Wife Michelle With Daughters Malia and Sasha

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:28pm

Former President Barack Obamacelebrated his wife on Mother’s Day in the sweetest way. Instead of posting a recent pic of the former First Lady Michelle Obama, he shared a throwback to her earlier years—and the pic is more than precious.

Along with a family photo featuring the couple and their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, the Instagram post also includes the caption, “Wishing all the moms out there a wonderful Mother’s Day! To @MichelleObama, I’m grateful for all the ways you’ve shown up for our daughters and our family over the years. We love you.”

View this post on Instagram

Fans flocked to the post, showering Obama (Michelle, that is) with praise. One commenter gushed, “Happy Mother’s Day to this super woman who we had the privilege to call out first lady,” and another wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to this queen, and inspiration, with her a great day.”

The former POTUS also celebrated his own mother, Ann Dunham, on this special day. Obama shared a clip from Today, featuring photos of his mom through the years, along with the caption, “This Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about my mom, and all the lessons she taught me. I’m proud to honor her memory with the Ann Dunham Water Terrace at the Obama Presidential Center.”

View this post on Instagram

If you're wondering what the water terrace is, it’s an outdoor space featuring a sculpture by artist MayaLin that celebrates the life and legacy of the former President’s mother.

Along with the Ann Dunham Water Terrace, the 19.2-acre museum/library/community space will include the Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit and Vegetable Garden and Teaching Kitchen, a 58,000 square foot lawn for outdoor activities, a nature-inspired playground, a garden that pays tribute to the Suffrage Movement, an eco-friendly Wetland Walk oasis, a promenade, a full-size replica of Obama’s Oval Office, and a 60,000-square-foot athletic and events space.

Obama announced the Ann Dunham Water Terrace way back in 2022, writing on Instagram, “My mother, Ann Dunham, was the biggest influence on my life. She had the core belief in our common humanity, and she made sure I recognized the inherent dignity in every person.” He continued, “The Ann Dunham Water Garden will be a special place for visitors and members of the community to come together and reflect.”

Located in Chicago’s South Side, the Center opens to the public on June 19

The Gravity star joined Instagram in April. Her first post was a video of her playful pointing to a blender, then it turned on, playing up her returning to her witch role as Sally Owens in Practical Magic 2.

On May 10, she posted a slide of three pictures on the platform. The first one was of her talking with her grandmother. The second picture showed her younger self with her mom and her younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, posing in the snow. The post ends with the actress sitting on a park bench with her two young kids.

"To all the mamas, No matter how you came to be, Happy Mother’s Day. We are all bound by this honor of a lifetime. Mom and Omi, thank you for teaching me. We miss you," read the caption. "Sorry I was such a brat."

The Oscar winner talked about how her life changed after becoming a mother. "Everything is about them being OK, being in school, having what they need, their moments," Bullock said on Today with Hoda Kotb. "I need to be there for every single moment that they have."

The mother said she slowed down on work so she's at home more. But her kids are understanding when she does leave. Her kids are 19 and 13 years old this year. However, her post includes younger pictures of them with their faces slightly covered.

‘Ginny and Georgia’ Star Brianne Howey Reveals She’s Pregnant With Second Baby

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 6:41pm

The Season 3 finale of Ginny and Georgia left fans wondering, “Is she pregnant?” And while Georgia’s sudden milk craving teased that she’s expecting, it looks like actress Brianne Howey’s character isn’t the only one who is about to become a mom…again.

Yes, that’s right. Howey is having a second baby. The Ginny and Georgia star posted a precious pic on Instagram, showing off her growing bump. But don’t let her belly trick you into thinking she’s giving a Season 4 reveal. This is most definitely not a prosthetic. Howey also added a pretty straightforward statement, captioning the photo, “Here we grow again. Happy Mother’s Day!”

View this post on Instagram

Fans and friends took to her post to congratulate Howey on her second pregnancy. Executive producer and show runner on Ginny and Georgia, Debra Fisher gushed, “Baby two looks good on you,” and actress Jillian Bell added, “Beauty! Happy Mother’s Day!”

One commenter pointed out the similarity between Howey IRL and her character, writing, “Perfect timing considering the fact that Georgia is pregnant too!” and another joked, “You were drinking milk, weren’t you?”

Who Is Brianne Howey’s Husband?

On her Netflix series, Howey has gone through more than her fair share of husbands. Georgia married her first husband, Anthony Greene, at age 17, and after his untimely demise, married Kenny Drexel. Of course, as fans know, he also didn’t live long (at least, not for long after meeting Georgia). Then there was Ginny’s father, Zion. While Georgia never actually married him, Zion was a prominent figure in her life and one of the main characters on the show.

Georgia’s latest husband, Mayor Paul Randolph, fell hard for the single mom. But when her past (and secrets) caught up with her, things got rocky for the pair.

Unlike her fictional self, Howey’s real-life romances aren’t over-the-top dramas. The actress married lawyer Matt Ziering after reportedly meeting through mutual friends.

Following the couple’s 2021 nuptials, Hower told People, It was the most beautiful feeling to be surrounded by so many people we love. The night was more magical than I could have ever imagined.”

Howey and Ziering welcomed their first child, daughter Siggy, in 2023. She posted an absolutely adorable announcement on Instagram, writing, “My whole world just got a whole lot sweeter. And smaller. Welcome my little love.”

Martin Short Breaks Silence on Daughter Katherine's Death: ‘Nightmare’

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 6:34pm

Martin Short is opening up about the death of his daughter Katherine.

During a Sunday, May 10 appearance on CBS News Sunday Morning, the actor called her death "a nightmare." Katherine died by suicide at the age of 42 in February.

"It's been a nightmare for the family," Short said. "But the understanding [is] that mental health and cancer, like my wife's, are both diseases, and sometimes with diseases they are terminal. And my daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and did the best she couldn't until she couldn't."

Katherine, who worked as a social worker in Los Angeles, was the eldest daughter of Short and his late wife, actress Nancy Dolman. Nancy died from ovarian cancer in 2010.

The Short family previously confirmed Katherine’s passing on Feb. 24.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the Short family told People in a statement.

According to People, Katherine worked in private practice as a licensed clinical social worker and worked part-time at the clinic Amae Health providing community outreach, family support groups, peer support and psychotherapy.

She also worked with Glenn Close‘s charity Bring Change 2 Mind, which focuses on reducing stigma around mental health issues.

Throughout the years, Katherine mainly stayed out of the public eye—opting to attend a few events with her father over the years.

Short is set to be featured in the upcoming Netflix documentary film, Marty, Life Is Short, premiering on Tuesday, May 12. The documentary is dedicated to both Katherine and actress Catherine O'Hara, Short's longtime friend and occasional co-star who died in January.

Foodies and sweets enthusiasts may recall when the century-old candy brand dropped its first-ever Twin Snakes flavor spinoff last April—well, if you didn't get to try it then or this is your first time hearing about it, consider yourself lucky, as you officially have another chance this summer.

In an official statement shared via email with Parade, Haribo confirmed that its Tropical Goldbears and Tropical Twin Snakes would make limited returns this summer alongside the highly anticipated comeback of Goldbears Red, White & Blue pack.

Haribo Tropical Goldbears and Twin Snakes Return for Summer 2026

Haribo Goldbears may be the most iconic of the collection with its five fruity options (Pineapple, Strawberry, Lemon, Orange and Raspberry), but in this summer-exclusive, the sweet treat takes on more vibrant colors and flavors such as Pineapple, Kiwi, Passion Fruit, and Paradise Punch.

1982 Classic Film, With Iconic '70s Soundtrack, Ranked Among Best Rock Movies of All Time

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 5:56pm

More than 40 years after its release, 'Pink Floyd: The Wall' remains one of the most ambitious and visually unforgettable rock films ever made.

The movie, based on Pink Floyd's landmark 1979 album, The Wall, was recently ranked among the best rock movies of all time by Ultimate Classic Rock, earning the title of the best rock movie of 1982, a fitting honor for a film that pushed the boundaries of both music and cinema.

Directed by Alan Parker, the film brought the album's themes of isolation, trauma and psychological collapse to life through a blend of live-action sequences and striking animation by artist Gerald Scarfe.

The story follows Pink, a deeply alienated rock star played by Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats, as he spirals further into emotional isolation and detachment from the world around him.

"What happens is that the character recognizes, within himself, a lust for power and a lack of caring for other people’s feelings and other people’s needs, which he then projects into a fantasy of himself as a kind of fascist demagogue," said Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters in an 1982 interview. "I'm not sure if that's satire, but it's an attack on parts of myself of myself that I disapprove of, a sort of exercise in self-flagellation, I suppose."

One of the film's most interesting elements is its soundtrack. Although the movie was based on the original The Wall album, many of the songs were actually re-recorded or remixed specifically for the film, meaning audiences heard alternate versions rather than exact copies of the 1979 recordings.

"The idea of The Wall was so big and there was such a lot of stuff that Roger wanted to get across lyrically that there was no other way to do it, really," Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour said of the original album in a 1982 interview. "As it was, we had to struggle to get it on a double album."

Some tracks featured different vocal takes, altered arrangements or extended sections designed to better fit the film's pacing and visuals. The movie also introduced new material, opening with "When the Tigers Broke Free," a song not included on the original album, while another track, "5:11 AM (The Moment of Clarity)," came from Roger Waters' upcoming solo work.

That willingness to reinvent familiar material helped make the film feel like more than just a visual accompaniment to the album. Instead, it became its own distinct artistic experience.

At the time of release, Pink Floyd: The Wall divided some critics because of its dark imagery and unconventional storytelling. But over the years, it has become widely recognized as one of the defining rock films of its era. And yet, Waters himself was among the film's harshest critics.

"I was a bit disappointed with it in the end, because at the end of the day I felt no sympathy at all with the lead character," Waters said in a 1988 interview. "I found it was so unremitting in its onslaught upon the senses, that it didn't actually give me, as an audience, a chance to get involved with it."

Today, the movie stands as both a cinematic achievement and an extension of one of rock music's most influential albums, a haunting, visually daring classic that continues to captivate audiences decades later.

"He made me a mother 36 years ago and he’s been backstage with me ever since! Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there," she captioned the post. The second slide is a more current photo of him in front of a sign reading, "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."

McEntire was also the stepmother to Blackstock's other children Chassidy, Shawna, and son Brandon Blackstock. Brandon died of cancer at 48 years old in 2025.

Shelby is a racecar driver and is about to become a parent himself. He posted Instagram pictures with his pregnant wife, Marissa Blackstock, at Disney World, announcing they are expecting a baby in April.

"Oh, BOY! We’re beyond excited to FINALLY announce our little man is coming in October. See ya real soon, pal! Mommy + Daddy love you!" they captioned the post.

They held up a baby onesie featuring a sleeping baby Mickey Mouse with "Blackstock October 2026" embroidered on it. They also had a Mickey Mouse hat with "Baby Blackstock" on it.

2003 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Intense Thriller of the Last 25 Years'

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 5:26pm

Moviegoers may have noticed that acclaimed thriller movies usually have plenty of tense and upsetting moments. In May 2026, Collider spotlighted some extremely stress-inducing movies from the genre by compiling a list of the "10 most intense thrillers of the last 25 years." Thrillers that made it on the ranking included 2017's Good Time, 2004's Children of Men, Black Swan from 2010, and Uncut Gems, released in 2019.

Collider ranked 2003's Oldboy as the number 1 "most intense thriller" released after 2001. According to the publication, the Park Chan-wook film has plenty of nail-biting, violent scenes and a traumatic plot twist.

Oldboy, based on the manga by Marley Caribou and Nobuaki Minegishi, has a rating of 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Park Chan-wook Discussed His Revenge Movies, Including 'Oldboy,' in 2025

In a December 2025 interview with Letterboxd, Chan-wook referenced that Oldboy is a part of his "Vengeance Trilogy," which also includes his films, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and Lady Vengeance (2005). He shared that he never wanted the audience to be "rooting for the revenge to succeed" when making the three films, as he doesn't believe one should be devoted to enacting revenge.

"I didn't want to make that kind of movie. Because to me, that kind of revenge is really something that requires giving up your whole existence, completely and entirely, to devote yourself to it," said the director during the interview. "Only humans can become part of such things. Because there's no gain from it. Even when they devote their entire being, there's nothing to be gained. No realistic benefit at all. Only humans are capable of such self-centered actions. And because of that, it reveals what kind of beings humans truly are."

He also shared that he decided to make the female-centered Lady Vengeance because he felt "a little sorry" for Mi-do's (Kang Hye-jung) fate in Old Boy.

"Because of that feeling toward the character, in my next film, this final film of the trilogy, Lady Vengeance, I wanted to resolve this issue. So, although nothing was planned, I decided the story had to focus entirely on the female protagonist," said Chan-wook while speaking to Letterboxd.

Psychologist Says People Who Celebrate the Birthdays of Their Cats and Dogs Likely Have These 9 Traits

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 5:25pm

Who doesn't love a good party? We'll wait... exactly. But partying is not just for the people. If you adore your pet, you may want to throw them a birthday bash. It might sound silly to some, but a psychologist kind of loves it.

"It's fun to celebrate their birthdays because it is really about celebrating the relationship," explains Dr. Holly Schiff, Psy.D., a licensed clinical psychologist. "Our pets are a huge source of comfort, joy and consistency. So marking their special day gives people a chance to express gratitude and create a positive ritual. It also lets us be playful and intentionally joyful, which we don't prioritize enough in adulthood."

Dr. Schiff treats people, not pets, but she knows enough about psychology to deliver this truth (without an ounce of killjoy intent).

"While pets don't understand the concept of a birthday, they absolutely respond to the energy and extra attention, affection, play and treats," she explains. "Animals are quite attuned to our tone and behavior, so if we are happy and engaged, the pet will experience that as a positive interaction."

In fact, simply enjoying your dog's or cat's sweet reaction to their celebration may reveal a trait or two about you. The psychologist notes that our habits and behaviors can influence our traits, and it's worth investigating why.

"Behaviors reinforce patterns in how we think, feel and relate to others," she says. "If we become more aware of this, we can intentionally lean into habits that promote connection and joy and scale back the ones that don't. That awareness helps us show up more thoughtfully for ourselves, others and even our pets."

Here, Dr. Schiff shares nine traits that people who celebrate their pets' birthdays likely have.

The Psychology of Pet Parenthood

Pet parenthood has evolved over the decades.

"We have humanized pets," Dr. Schiff explains. "They're viewed as family members rather than just companions or animals serving a functional role. Psychologically, this reflects that social structures are changing, and pets can fill emotional roles that historically may have been met by extended family or community."

Still, the many psychological perks of pet ownership have remained the same.

"Pet parenthood offers numerous mental health benefits, including reducing loneliness, providing structure and offering a sense of purpose and unconditional support," she reports. "Pets can be grounding during stressful times and help regulate mood and anxiety."

Interestingly, cat ownership is linked to a higher risk of depression, while data on dog ownership are mixed, according to a 2025 study in Annals of Psychology. But that doesn't mean your cat (and dog, for that matter) doesn't make you personally happier and less lonely.

Still, pet parenthood of any kind can bring on periods of sadness.

"There can definitely be an emotional downside and drawback as the grief and loss after losing a pet is incredibly difficult—a fact I can attest to personally," Dr. Schiff reveals. "Also, some people may become overly reliant on their pet for emotional needs, which can be problematic and limit other relationships if not balanced."

9 Traits of People Who Celebrate Their Pets' Birthdays, Psychologist Says

by vesi_127/Getty Images

1. Highly emotionally expressive

Parties can tap into your emotional reserves—and people who throw bashes for their pets may have plenty in the tank.

"People who celebrate their pets' birthdays are emotionally expressive because they are comfortable showing affection and marking meaningful moments," Dr. Schiff explains. "Celebrating a pet's birthday is an outward expression of love and attachment."

2. Playful

Pets of all shapes, stripes and sizes can adore play—ditto for kids. Adults? Sometimes we forget how to do something that once came so easily to us. But people who celebrate the birthdays of their dogs and cats haven't lost their playful sides in today's more serious society.

"They embrace lightheartedness and fun," Dr. Schiff reveals. "Creating a celebration for a pet reflects a willingness to engage in joy without overthinking it."

3. Sentimental

Birthdays are a time for reflection and trips down memory lane—including pet birthdays. Dr. Schiff shares that people who mark their pet's birthdays (even the shelter-estimated one or a "gotcha day") value memories and milestones because they are sentimental.

"Even symbolic dates feel meaningful and worth acknowledging to them," she shares.

4. Naturally nurturing

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Dr. Schiff reports that pet-celebrating types enjoy nurturing and caregiving roles.

"Celebrating a pet's birthday mirrors the instinct to care for and prioritize another being," she notes.

5. Relationship-oriented

Dr. Schiff reveals that people who mark their dogs' and cats' milestones value relationships with their pets and, in all likelihood, with people.

"They see their bond with their pet as significant and worthy of recognition," she shares. "The celebration reflects the importance they place on connection."

6. Creative

It takes some creativity and outside-of-the-box thinking to celebrate a pet (or dream up any party, quite frankly).

"Planning a small celebration, even a simple one, taps into creativity and personalization," Dr. Schiff says. "This isn't routine, it is intentional."

These individuals may readily slip into creative roles in the workplace, such as social media or design positions, or adore painting and crafting in their free time.

7. Mindful

Life is busy, so honestly, it's no shame if you don't have time to even post an Instagram tribute to a pet on their birthday. But there's something to be said about the presence of mind it takes not only to put something on social media but also to execute a whole celebration.

"Taking time to celebrate can reflect an effort to slow down and be present, which fosters mindfulness," Dr. Schiff says. "It is a way to appreciate what they have in the moment."

8. Gratitude-oriented

"Develop an attitude of gratitude." "Keep a gratitude journal." - Every self-help social media account and book, ever.

We're not knocking this advice. But people who give their pets extra love on their birthdays are either more naturally inclined toward gratitude or have rolled up their sleeves, done the work and developed this trait over time.

"Using a ritual like this to acknowledge the positive impact their pet has on their life, which reinforces appreciation and perspective," Dr. Schiff explains.

9. Anthropomorphizing tendency

Anthropomorphizing is a fancy word for attributing human qualities to pets, like dogs and cats. To be clear, so many of us do this, and it's not 100% bad.

"Anthropomorphizing... strengthens the emotional attachment and makes a celebration like this feel natural," Dr. Schiff says.

When it comes to celebrating a pet's birthday, it's generally harmless as long as you're keeping the pet's preferences and safety front of mind (read: no chocolate cake and if a dog or cat isn't a fan of unfamiliar people, maybe keep it a part of two—you and the furry friend).

Can You Go Overboard Celebrating Your Pet's Birthday?

Dr. Schiff shares that planning a pet's birthday party is usually fun but can negatively impact your mental well-being (and even your pets) if you go overboard.

"People can definitely go overboard, especially if the celebration becomes less about joy and more about pressure, comparison or trying to fill an emotional gap," the psychologist explains. "If someone feels stressed, obligated or is using it to avoid other areas of their life, that's a sign to scale it back."

She suggests setting an intention to make the party and planning process fun, meaningful and proportionate.

"If someone is spending beyond their means, trying to outdo others on social media or relying on their pet as their primary or only source of emotional fulfillment, that's more about avoidance or overcompensation," she explains.

You can keep this pitfall in check by grounding yourself in intention, she notes.

"Ask yourself if it still feels fun and meaningful or if it feels like pressure or obligation," she advises. "Keep the celebration simple and set limits around time and money to ensure that it stays a positive and healthy expression of love."

Final Takeaways

Throwing a party for a pet can be fun, stressful and reveal certain traits. Here's what to take away:

  • Pet parenthood can offer psychological benefits. The research is mixed, but pet ownership is sometimes linked to lower levels of depression and loneliness in both data and anecdotal reports.
  • People who celebrate the birthdays of their dogs and cats often share certain traits. Dr. Schiff shares that they are often mindful, grateful, relationship-oriented and creative. They may also assign human traits to their pets (anthropomorphize), which isn't "bad" as long as you keep your dog's physical and emotional well-being in mind. Keep toxic foods away, and avoid projecting a personal love of loud parties on a pet who prefers quieter, more intimate moments.
  • Planning a pet's birthday can become overwhelming. Social media has a wealth of adorable ideas for pet birthday bashes, but trying to 100% replicate them can drain your financial and emotional reserves. Stick within your means and remember that the goal is for you and your pet to genuinely have a ball. Your dog or cat will love you no matter how big and pricey the party is.
