1975 Rock Relic Expected to Sell for $600,000 at Major New Auction
One of the most famous guitars in rock history is headed to auction, and experts believe it could sell for as much as $600,000.
Julien’s Auctions has announced details this week for its upcoming “Music Icons” sale in New York City, a massive two-day event packed with more than 800 pieces of music memorabilia tied to legendary artists including KISS, Metallica, The Beatles, Eddie Van Halen and many, many others.
The centerpiece of the sale is Ace Frehley’s 1975 Gibson Les Paul “Ace #1,” which Julien’s called “one of the most historically significant guitars in rock and roll.” Auction officials estimate the guitar could bring between $400,000 and $600,000. Frehley died last October at the age of 74.
According to the auction house, Frehley used the guitar more than any other instrument throughout his years with KISS, both on stage and in the studio. The announcement arrives as the band’s debut in London approaches its 50th anniversary, a milestone Julien’s said helped shape this year’s heavy metal-focused collection.
The auction also includes several other high-profile guitars tied to iconic performances and recordings. Among them is Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 1969 Guild F-412 twelve-string guitar, which he played during his 1990 MTV Unplugged performance. That instrument is expected to sell for between $300,000 and $500,000.
Fans of country music history may be especially interested in Johnny Cash’s 1954 Martin D-18 acoustic guitar, which Cash used during his 1956 Grand Ole Opry debut. Julien’s said the guitar may be the earliest professional instrument tied to Cash’s career and noted that it was played during the era when he recorded classics including “Folsom Prison Blues” and “I Walk the Line.”
Other highlights include a stage-played and signed guitar from Eddie Van Halen’s final performance with Sammy Hagar, a band-signed copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles and handwritten “Woodstock” lyrics byJoni Mitchell.
The growing market for high-end music memorabilia has exploded in recent years, with collectors paying massive sums for instruments tied to historic performances and recordings. Julien’s Auctions said interest in rare music artifacts continues to surge as fans increasingly view iconic guitars, handwritten lyrics and stage-worn clothing as both cultural treasures and investment pieces. The auction house added that this year’s sale reflects the “enduring power” of rock history, particularly as milestone anniversaries for legendary acts like KISS continue to spark renewed interest among collectors.
Julien’s “Music Icons” auction will take place May 29 and 30 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, with bidding already open online.

It's also outfitted with two inflatable seats and backrests, two paddles, a pump and a patch to help get your emergency kit started.

And with features like a wrap-around grab rope for hassle-free transport and docking, plus an elastic cord storage area to corral your essentials, it truly feels like a premium outdoors product at an unbeatable price.

Kylie Kelce Has Super Down-to-Earth Reaction to 'Jeopardy!' Snub
Who's Kylie Kelce anyway? Ew.
On a recent episode of Jeopardy!, several compelling clues to the podcaster and mother of four's identity left competitors puzzled as ever, and now, the softball pro is speaking out following what many may perceive as a snub.
During the April 28 broadcast, within the category "Nearer My Pod To Thee," alongside a photo of the pop culture icon was the clue, “Debuting in 2024, Not Gonna Lie stars this future sister-in-law of Taylor Swift.”
Even her fellow Philadelphian, champion Greg Shahade, didn't recognize the local icon, who is married to Eagles legend Jason Kelce.
But on the May 7 episode of the aforementioned podcast, Kylie admitted that that was just the way she liked it, and, truthfully, that's not all that surprising to hear.
On the May 7 episode of her podcast Not Gonna Lie, Kelce reacted to the moment. When no one answered the clue, she smiled at the camera and said,
“Exactly. Nobody knew it. And that is how I like it. Okay?" she said with a giant smile. "This was a great reference point. People shouldn’t know who I am,” she added, going on to address fans who pointed out that Shahade was from Philly, too. “I think that people were telling me that as if to be like, everyone from Philadelphia should know you. Wrong.”
Kylie always keeps it lowkey, even preferring to sit in the stands, rather than in the family suite, during football games, despite her celebrity status—so to hear how completely unfazed she was by the competitors' ignorance may come as a surprise to those less familiar with her while serving as further proof of how down to earth she remains despite the influx of attention that befell her family when brother-in-law Travis Kelce started dating the global superstar.
Kylie's dad, however, was thrilled with the development, as an avid viewer of the long-running game show.
“My house growing up was a Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune house," she shared, revealing that her family watched them both "every single night." While her mom is "crazy good at Wheel of Fortune,” her dad is "randomly good at Jeopardy!" thanks to his vast array of "random facts...stored away for that exact purpose."
“My dad was very excited to see it. He was watching Jeopardy! at home by himself when it happened,” she continued. “I was dropping my mom off, and he came bolting out the front door and showed me the video like this in my face and said, ‘You gotta see this.’ And I was like, ‘Okay. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.'”
Why Princess Charlotte's Birthday Portraits Made 'Sad' Prince Harry Feel His Own Kids Are 'Missing Out'
Princess Charlotte’s portraits for her 11th birthday were a sweet update on the preteen’s life, but they stirred up some emotions for her uncle, Prince Harry.
The Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and have since relocated to Montecito, California, where they are raising their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Seeing how old Charlotte is getting was a reminder of the physical — and emotional — distance from his family.
“Archie and Lili are having a lovely time in California, but Harry is very sad that they are missing out on life with the rest of their family,” a source claimed to the Daily Mail. “Harry feels his children are missing out on the extensive family network that their cousins are enjoying.”
Archie was born at Portland Hospital in Westminster, London, in May 2019. He spent the early months of his life in the royal fold, including accompanying his parents on a royal tour of Southern Africa in September 2019, before Harry and Meghan relocated to the US in early 2020. Lilibet was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, in June 2021. The preschooler has reportedly only been to the U.K. once in her life to attend the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations with her parents and brother in June 2022.
Archie and Lilibet do not seem to have any close ties to their young cousins, who all attend Lambrook School together.

After stepping back from their roles with Buckingham Palace, Harry and Meghan did a series of interviews, pulling back the curtain on their lives within the royal family and the issues they had within the system. Harry also published his memoir, Spare, in 2023, revealing even more intimate details about his family. In the fallout, Harry reportedly has no relationship and is not on speaking terms with his brother, Prince William, or his father, King Charles III. However, the Duke of Sussex has publicly expressed a desire to reconnect with his family.

As for Meghan, she has two older half-siblings, a sister, Samantha, who is 17 years older and a brother, Thomas, who is 14 years older, from her father Thomas Markle's previous marriage. Due to the large age gap, her siblings were out of the house by the time Meghan was a young child, and the Duchess has said she doesn’t have a relationship with either of them.
In her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said, "I grew up as an only child, which everyone who grew up around me knows, and I wished I had siblings.”
Brandi Glanville Reacts To Rumors LeAnn Rimes Was Cast on ‘RHOBH’: 'She Got Everything Else Of Mine'
Brandi Glanville is making waves after sharing her honest thoughts on LeAnn Rimes potentially joining the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Glanville, who was apart of the Bravo show's main cast from 2012-2015, recently commented on rumors that the country singer is joining the series. Glanville’s ex-husband, actor Eddie Cibrian, left her for Rimes back in 2009.
“I hope it’s true about RHOBH,” Glanville wrote via X. “I mean she got everything else of mine-husband, kids, boobs, bronco, random illnesses she might as well just be a Housewife and finish it off once and for all.”
The post came after gossip site DeuxMoi reported earlier this week that Rimes’ “name has started circulating in casting conversations for the next season” of the reality series.
Rimes, for her part, denied the report in an Instagram comment after former BacheloretteRachel Lindsay brought up the rumors on her podcast The Morally Corrupt Bravo Show.
“Omg, dying!” Rimes wrote underneath the May 6 clip. “No, no…. no housewives for me.”
As for Glanville, fans are divided on how to respond to her comments about Rimes.
"LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO BRANDI NEVER CHANGE MAMA," one fan wrote. "Brandi it’s time to grow up." said another.
"everyone’s saying it’s time to move on but if someone knowingly broke up my family i’d be forever pissed too," added a third. "DRAG HERRRRRRRR." said a fourth.
Glanville and Cibrian married in 2001 and have two sons, Mason, 22, and Jake, 19. The couple announced their separation in July 2009 after it was revealed Cibrian had an affair with Rimes after they starred together in the movie Northern Lights.
Cibrian and Rimes have been married since 2011.

Whether you're a seasoned host, an aspiring chef, or someone who considers takeout a core food group, most of us are always looking for small ways to make our kitchens feel a little more elevated without overspending. We fill our cabinets and set our tables with trendy gadgets, stylish serveware, and all the little extras that promise to improve the cooking experience. If you’ve been wanting a stylish yet affordable kitchen refresh, the Linden Street Amberly 16-Piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set is currently on sale for just $72 at JCPenney. It's marked down 63% from its original $220 price tag with an additional discount when you enter the code FLOWERS at checkout. That breaks down to roughly $4.50 per piece for a complete set that instantly makes weeknight dinners, holiday meals, and even leftover pizza nights feel a little more put-together.
Linden Street Amberly 16-Piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set, $72 (was $220) at JCPenney Shop at JCPenneyThis 16-piece dinnerware set includes four 10.75-inch dinner plates, four 8.5-inch salad plates, four 20-ounce bowls, and four 13-ounce mugs, creating a fully coordinated table setting for four. Crafted from stoneware, each piece leans into a softly vintage-inspired aesthetic, with intricate raised detailing that gives the collection its heirloom feel. The scalloped rims of the plates are framed with delicate embossed patterns — some featuring scrolling botanical motifs that resemble hand-carved vines or foliage, while others incorporate beaded edging.
The bowls echo that same embossed detailing around the exterior, giving them a dimensional, almost lace-like appearance, while the mugs are finished with softly scalloped rims and gently curved handles that reinforce the romantic, collected look. Altogether, the set evokes the charm of classic European cottage design, blending rustic warmth with more refined decorative touches that feel elegant without becoming overly formal.
The stoneware construction gives each piece a durable, substantial feel that holds up well to regular use and is crack- and chip-resistant. Both microwave- and dishwasher-safe, the collection balances practicality with style, making it easy to use for casual weeknight meals as well as more styled tablescapes or dinner parties. The round silhouettes stack neatly for storage, which is convenient for smaller kitchens.
Awarded a perfect five-star overall rating by JCPenney shoppers, this “elegant” and “lovely” set earned plenty of praise in the reviews section. “This is a beautiful and diverse set of dishes! Could easily be used as fine China for a formal meal, or as a quick dinner set for everyday meals with the family,” one shopper wrote.
Another highlighted the specifics of the design, adding, “The details and scalloped outline add a nice touch of sophistication to what is typically a basic stoneware set.”

Robert Irwin Reveals Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis Named the Newest Addition at Australia Zoo
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis came up with the perfect name for the newest addition at the Australia Zoo, Robert Irwin revealed.
Irwin, 22, shared a video via Instagram on May 7, sitting among the kangaroos and showing off the young joey who appeared happy in her mother’s pouch. He thanked Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids, George, 12, Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8, for naming the eastern grey kangaroo Cwtch (pronounced Kutch), which is Welsh for “cuddle.”

"G'Day! It's Robert Irwin here with a couple of my mates. This is, of course, the icon of Australia, the kangaroo, and I'm very proud to announce that my friends, the Wales family, helped us to name our beautiful new joey," Irwin said in the video.
View this post on InstagramThe Dancing With the Stars winner called Cwtch “the absolute perfect name” because joeys “love a cuddle” and spend most of their time in their mother’s pouch. Of course, choosing a name in Welsh is a nod to their parents' titles of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
"I want to say a particular thank-you to Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte for your help in finding this one a brilliant name," Irwin said. “It is so important that we conserve all of our animals, including the icons, the kangaroos. These guys play a very important role in the Australian bush and out there in the ecosystem, they are just crucial.”

He added, "Cwtch is already stealing hearts, and I hope she inspires people to fall in love with wildlife and want to help protect it.”
Robert helps run Queensland's Australia Zoo with his mother, Terri Irwin, and sister, Bindi Irwin. The family works around the world as conservationalists, honoring the past work of the late Steve Irwin.
Robert’s connection with the royal family is rooted in wildlife preservation. He is an ambassador for Prince William's Earthshot Prize, a prestigious 10-year environmental initiative awarding £1 million each to five winners annually for impactful, scalable solutions to repair the planet by 2030.

Robert called William, 43, a "kindred spirit," acknowledging that the future king's activism inspires his children.
"I think Prince William is certainly creating an amazing legacy for his kids and for an entire generation to take inspiration from, Robert told People in June 2025. “I have no doubt that they'll carry up that mission.”
Prince William’s efforts are likely inherited from his father, King Charles III. The monarch has dedicated his adult life to conservation, becoming aware of ecological threats back in the 1970s. He patronages champion sustainability, focusing on climate change, biodiversity, and regenerative agriculture.
During Charles’ state visit to the US in April, he visited Virginia's Shenandoah National Park, where they made him an honorary junior ranger.
Kirsten Talken-Spaulding, deputy regional director for the National Park Service, praised Charles, 77, for his decades of devotion and said, “The junior is not a title of age. It’s something everyone can aspire to and be a conservationist — much like the King himself.”
“He may not be a youngster, but he’s a most important man in the conservation world,” the director added.
Cirie Fields Shares Emotional Tribute After Ozzy Lusth's 'Survivor 50' Exit: 'Most Genuine Soul'
Cirie Fields is joining the Survivor fandom in mourning the loss of Ozzy Lusth on Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.
Lusth was voted out during the Wednesday, May 6 episode of the series, despite possessing a hidden immunity idol that could've spared him from elimination. Season 50 marked his 5th time playing Survivor, and his second time leaving the game with an idol in his pocket.
The next day, Fields—Lusth's most loyal ally—penned an emotional tribute via Instagram.
"20+ years of outwitting, outplaying, outlasting… and somehow still staying one of the most genuine souls to ever step foot on that island. ❤️," Fields wrote. "Watching Ozzy Lusth play Survivor has always been incredible—the strength, the determination, the resilience, and the passion he brought season after season is something truly special. So many unforgettable moments, so many challenges conquered, and a legacy that will forever be part of Survivor history. 🌴🔥."
"But beyond the competitor everyone sees, I’m just grateful to have met the person behind it all. Kind, adventurous, humble, and always unapologetically himself. It’s rare to meet people who leave such a lasting impact both on and off the island," she continued. "Cheers to everything you’ve accomplished over these 20+ years, Ozzy. Thank you for the memories, the inspiration, and for being such an unforgettable part of this crazy Survivor journey. Much love always. ❤️🙌🏾."

Survivor 50 marked the fifth time Fields and Lusth have played Survivor as well as their third time playing together, following 2008's Micronesia–Fans vs. Favorites and 2017's Game Changers. In her post, Fields included snapshots of their 18 years playing the game together as tribe mates and allies.
Since Lusth's elimination occurred during a split tribal council, fans will have to wait until the Wednesday, May 13 episode to see Fields' reaction to Lusth's exit. Until this point, the pair plus newcomer Rizo Velovic appeared to be running the season.
Though Fields is still in contention for 50, both are among fans' top choices for the best Survivor players to never win.
Tennis Star's 'Supersuit' for French Open Is Turning Heads

The Belarusian player teased fans with an exciting post showcasing her 2026 Roland Garros kit.
In her latest Instagram post, the 28-year-old player, often dubbed the “queen of Tennis social media,” proudly introduced her custom Nike kit for the upcoming Grand Slam tournament.
The video first showed Sabalenka in a sleek all-black outfit before transitioning into a “supersuit.”
The tennis dress featured a black-and-red design with mesh detailing, giving the ensemble a flowy effect as she moved.
“My @nike supersuit for @rolandgarros,” she captioned her post.
This sparked a wave of admiration from fans, who were thrilled to see the kit make its debut on the court.

The same was true for another fan who pointed out, “OMG!!! Now we are talking about it! That is the outfit for the queen @nike the last ones were not nice.”
“Finally, Nike made justice to this queen,” a fan expressed the same sentiment.
Last year, the World No. 1 made a bold claim about her collaboration with Nike.
In a press interview following the 2025 WTA Finals championship match, Sabalenka jokingly expressed frustration over the design plans for 2026, implying that the collection might not be as exciting or creative as expected.

"People loved it, which is important,” she said, after a reporter asked about the cutout dress she was wearing at the time, adding, “Unfortunately, next season it just it's not going to be that special for me.”
After a reporter asked, “Why?” the tennis superstar answered, "Exactly! Maybe we should just start messaging Nike on Instagram and like putting some pressure on, but let's wait for 2027 because that year is going to be sick."
Regardless of her initial reaction to the 2026 kit, the four-time Grand Slam champion delivered in her latest collaboration with Nike, which has since received positive feedback from fans.
On the other hand, the French Open is scheduled from May 24 to June 7 in Paris.
The tournament will kick off with the first-round matches and will end with the women's singles final on Saturday, June 6.
As for the men’s singles, the final is scheduled for Sunday, June 7.

Zoë Kravitz Calls Out Hulu for Harry Styles Joke: 'Tacky'
Zoë Kravitz isn't putting up with any jokes made at the expense of her fiancée Harry Styles.
While promoting Kravitz's cancelled show High Fidelity on Instagram, the streaming service made a joke about the actress's relationship with the pop star.
“Robyn Brooks definitely has Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally on her playlist,” Hulu wrote alongside a photo of Kravitz as her High Fidelity character.
The caption referenced Styles' fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which was released on Mar. 6.
“This is tacky @hulu,” Kravitz commented.
The post has since been deleted.
In April, People confirmed Kravitz and Styles are engaged after the actress was spotting wear a massive diamond ring on her left hand. The couple were first romantically linked in August 2025.

High Fidelity aired for one season on Hulu in 2020 and was a gender-flipped version of the 1995 novel and 2000 film of the same name starring John Cusack.
Kravitz, whose mother Lisa Bonet appeared in the film adaptation, played Robyn "Rob" Brooks, a young record store owner who revisits her past relationships through music and popular culture.
The show was cancelled in August 2020, six months after it initially dropped in February of that year. At the time, Kravitz slammed Hulu for cutting its only show led by a woman of color.
“At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. Oh wait,” she wrote on Instagram, according to Variety.
In 2022, the actress criticized the streamer again for the cancellation, calling it a “big mistake.”
“They didn’t realize what that show was and what it could do,” Kravitz told Elle. “The amount of letters, DMs, people on the street and women that look like us—like, that love for the show, it meant something to people."
The White House Baby Boom—Karoline Leavitt Gave Birth, but These Washington, D.C. Moms Are Still Pregnant
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt welcomed her first daughter, Viviana (a.k.a. Vivi), on May 1. And while the new addition to the administration is a much-anticipated arrival, several other Washington, D.C. moms are still expecting.
Leavitt is only one of the new mamas in the 2026 White House baby boom. So, who else is pregnant? Other political celebs in the spotlight include:

(Photo by Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images)Wife to Vice President JD Vance, Usha Vance, is one of the most notable pregnant White House moms. As it turns out, she’s the first SLOTUS in over 100 years to have a baby while her husband is in office. That’s right, the last time this happened was in 1870!
The Second Lady is already mom to three kiddos: Ewan Blaine Vance (born in 2017), Vivek Vance (born in 2020), and Mirabel Rose Vance (born in 2021). She announced this pregnancy in January of 2026, posting a joint statement on Instagram with her husband that read, “We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.” The Vances continued, “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”
SLOTUS recently showed off her growing belly bump at the welcome ceremony and the state dinner for King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as the military moms' Mother’s Day celebration at the White House.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, is also expecting number four. Miller is already mom to Mackenzie Jay Miller (born in 2020), Jackson Grant Miller (born in 2022), and Hudson Monroe Miller (born in 2023).
The pregnant mom recently ruffled feathers, posting, “The most feminist thing you can do is make babies,” on Instagram. While her fans and friends flocked to the post, applauding the sentiment (and the carousel of pregnancy pics), some had a very different point of view.
In a less controversial post, Miller showed off her maternity style in a sleek, baby bump-baring gown at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Fans praised the picture, taken prior to the evening’s terrifying events, writing comments such as, “So glad you are safe! Stunningly beautiful!” and, “Such a great photo. Just gorgeous.”
Miller has yet to reveal her due date. But given that she announced the pregnancy on New Year’s Eve, it seems likely that she’ll give birth sometime soon.

The two dishes that fell into the elimination cookoff were by Andy and Cole, two of Gordon’s girls, going head-to-head. For their cook, they had to pay tribute to Alexi’s roots, which are from Greece. So, they had 25 minutes to create a Greek entrée.
The chef who cooked his final dish in the Next Level Kitchen was Andy.
“This was a dream come true,” Andy said. “I never imagined I would be here. I grew up in West Africa, so coming to America, the way my life has unfolded is truly an example of what’s possible. This beautiful seed of the food and love of cooking that has been nurtured in my heart by all three of you, I’m just so excited to keep it going and see it bloom and continue to share my heart and my food, so thank you.”

Witney Carson and Ezra Sosa Reveal the 'Villains' of 'DWTS'
Dancing With The Stars professional dancers Witney Carson and Ezra Sosa are finally revealing who the show's villains are.
"Every reality TV show needs a villain because there needs to be a story arc," Sosa said in an interview with Vulture for their "Reality Masterminds" series. "I’m sometimes more sat for the villain than I am the non-villains."
The pair were then asked who they thought the villain was on the latest season of the ABC competition series.
"Goodness, I don’t think anyone," Carson said. "Whitney Leavitt was painted as a villain on [The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives] and then she came to our show and reinvented herself, which I think was amazing."
Sosa added, "On season one of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, I was obsessed with Whitney Leavitt, but now, guess what? Everyone is."

Sosa then addressed a common misconception that the judging panel—made up of Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli—are the real villains of the show.
"I was going to say the judges, but they’re just doing their job," he said. "A lot of people think our judges are the villains because they give us low scores. Sis, they’re just doing their job. Rent is due."
Though neither offered a perfectly clear answer on who the villain is, Sosa was controversially paired up with Anna Delvey for season 33 in 2024.
The socialite divided fans as she had previously been convicted of multiple counts of grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, and theft of services after pretending to be a wealthy heiress in New York.
When asked his strongest memory of his former dance partner, Sosa replied, "It was probably the time when I rhinestoned her ankle monitor. That was during New York Fashion Week. I looked at her, and I was like, 'Can I rhinestone your ankle monitor?' And she was like, 'Of course.'"
"As a gay man, it was like music to my ears," he continued. "We were in New York, and she was teaching me how to walk. She was strutting it. We were walking in a show together, which is so iconic. It was for Pornhub. We don’t have to talk about that."
Dancing With The Stars—with Ciara Miller and Maura Higgins as contestants—returns this fall on ABC.

The #1 Mistake Parents and Grandparents Should Avoid Making With Their Kids, According to a Psychologist
When you’re parenting or grandparenting a child, there’s a lot to think about (and let’s be real, worry about), right? You may ruminate on all the ways you could get it “wrong,” from the mistakes well-meaning parents make to how to apologize to your kid, to even ”gentle parenting” mistakes. You might consider the ways you want to get it “right,” too, from raising a successful child to a happy kid to an emotionally intelligent child. It’s OK and understandable to feel exhausted by it all.
With that said, parents and grandparents have to remind themselves that no one is perfect and that they're going to make mistakes—and that doesn’t make them a “bad” parent or grandparent. All we can do is our best, and that is enough.
Another reframe or focus that can help is realizing some parenting and grandparenting “blunders” are bigger than others, so you can give those more attention (though you can still come back from some of them). For a kickstart on that, Parade asked a psychologist to share the main mistake she thinks someone can make with a kid. She also shares healthier communication alternatives and other mistakes to avoid. Spoiler alert: Some of the latter examples are surprising (until you read her explanations). For all of that need-to-know info, keep reading.

The #1 Mistake Parents and Grandparents Should Avoid Making With Kids, Psychologist WarnsThanasis Zovoilis/Getty Images
One of the biggest concerns a psychologist has about parenting and grandparenting is comparing a child or grandchild to their siblings or other children. It can seriously affect their mental health, even if it seems like “just one small comment.”
Let’s start with some context on what that looks like.
“Parents and grandparents tend to do this when one child lacks a positive trait, behavior or skill that another child demonstrates,” saysDr. Jolie Silva, PhD, a psychologist and the chief operating officer at New York Behavioral Health.
Examples of those phrases could include, “I wish you were as smart as your older sister,” or “Why can’t you be more like Luke [their brother]?”
What’s really happening to the child, she continues, is a fueling of the “self-comparison fire.” Kids may begin to think they aren’t good enough. Having low self-esteem like that is bad enough—it flat-out doesn’t feel good, and it’s shaming—and it can lend itself to more serious concerns, like depression, anxiety, academic concerns and even suicidal ideation.
“You want to avoid giving children reasons to compare themselves to others,” Dr. Silva continues. “The world will give them plenty of opportunities to do that, especially with social media.”
Healthier Ways To Communicate What You *Really* MeanSome parents and grandparents may compare their child to another child in hopes of motivating (or even guilting) them to act similarly. According to Dr. Silva, this is “not a skilled way to foster change in a child.”
Instead, she recommends asking the child open-ended questions about their behavior. What are the pros and cons of acting in the ways they are right now? See if they also conclude that change is needed. If so, they’ll be more likely to implement it.
3 Other Common Communication Mistakes Parents and Grandparents MakeDr. Silva shares additional common mistakes parents and grandparents make with kids and grandkids, and why they matter.
1. Invalidating their feelingsSaying a phrase like, “It’s no big deal” or “There’s nothing to be worried about” to a child can be well-intentioned (you want to help them feel better!), but it can also invalidate their feelings, Dr. Silva says, making them feel as though they're “crazy” or unheard. Instead, validate them by communicating that you hear them and understand where they're coming from, and provide relevant support.
2. Excessively praising themWhile comparing children and speaking negatively to them is a no-no, the opposite—too much positive praise—isn’t necessarily helpful, either.
“Over-praising your child or grandchild minimizes the praise’s meaning and can even be considered patronizing to some children,” Dr. Silva explains.
When you praise them after true accomplishments, they may be more likely to believe you and feel good about what they’ve done. This can also encourage them to continue in that way, or work as hard, in the future.
Related: Psychologists Say Parents Who Raise Kind Kids Share These 9 Unexpected Habits
3. Praising global traits rather than specific behaviorsWhen you want your child to feel confident, you might compliment them by saying they have a positive trait that comes to mind quickly, like “smart,” “artistic,” or “athletic.” That’s fair and can help a child feel good. At the same time, it’s not necessarily your best option (which is especially important to keep in mind if you want to be a “magic-making” grandparent or parent).
“Research shows that praising children for effort, rather than a trait, increases their motivation, resilience and willingness to work harder,” Dr. Silva explains.
For example, instead of saying “you’re artistic,” you might say “I love how much thought and detail you put into that drawing.” Or, instead of “You’re smart,” you might say, “I appreciate how hard you worked on that assignment.”
This helps them have a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset, which (in short) elicits feelings of purpose, hope and the willingness to keep trying.
Again, all parents and grandparents make mistakes, and it’s not the end of the world. Just do your best and be mindful of what Dr. Silva shared, and the kids in your life will appreciate it more than you know.

1991 Bestseller That Inspired a Hit TV Show Is Named Among America's 'Most-Loved Books' of All Time
This novel may be set in 18th century Scotland, but it's one of the most beloved books among American readers.
Diana Gabaldon's best-selling novel Outlander, which inspired the hit TV series of the same name, was unveiled as one of America's top 100 most-loved books by PBS' The Great American Read. The list included 100 titles that were voted on by readers, with Gabaldon's 1991 historical fiction novel finishing in second place.
It was outvoted by only one other title, perhaps one of the most revered American novels, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
Gabaldon, an American author from Arizona, sparked both a literary phenomenon and a television craze with the Outlander books, which were adapted into the hit series starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. It premiered on Starz in 2014, and ran for eight seasons, with the series finale slated to air later this month.
So far, Gabaldon has published nine books in the series, with the tenth and final book, A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out is still being written.
View this post on InstagramOutlander was a finalist in the vote for America's most-loved books, alongside other famed series that have been adapted for the screen, like J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter(ranked No. 3) and J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings (ranked No. 5). The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis also made the list, coming in at No. 9.
Other beloved titles that made the top 10 include Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (No. 4), Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind (No. 6) E.B. White's Charlotte's Web (No. 7), Louisa May Alcott's Little Women (No. 8) and Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre (No. 10).
Fans Still Can’t Get Over George O’Malley’s Death on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
For many longtime fans of Grey's Anatomy, few moments in the show’s history hit quite as hard as the loss of George O’Malley.
Played by T.R. Knight, George started as one of the original interns alongside Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, and Alex Karev. While George was often underestimated early on (earning the nickname “007” after freezing during surgery) the character gradually evolved, becoming a fan favorite.
George’s death occurred during the season 5 finale and season 6 premiere. In the episode “Now or Never,” which originally aired May 14, 2009, George was struck by a bus after jumping in front of it to save a stranger. The accident left him so badly injured that his fellow doctors couldn’t identify him at first. The heartbreak came when the unidentified “John Doe” patient traced “007” into Meredith’s hand, signaling who he really was.
The following episode, “Good Mourning,” which aired Sept. 24, 2009, confirmed George died from complications after surgery due to massive brain swelling.
Part of what made the moment so emotional was its timing. George had just decided to join the U.S. Army as a trauma surgeon before the show abruptly changed course, and 15 years later, fans still aren’t over it.
READ MORE: Grey's Anatomy Teases Yet Another Major Character Exit
“Why in the world did I subject myself to the death of George O'Malley again on Grey's Anatomy? 😪😪,” one fan wrote on Threads in March.
Another insisted, “Why did George have to die after he joined the army? He could've been a doctor with them and the writers could've referenced O'Malley and he couldn't been a passive character until some guest appearance or something. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE.”
“Gonna rewatch grey’s just to feel something for the zillionth time. ya’ll killed george o’malley for no reason,” one X user stated in February.

“Every time I get to the episode where George O’Malley dies on Grey’s Anatomy, I cry. Shonda had absolutely no reason to kill him like that,” another declared.
But George did eventually make a comeback in the show—sort of. In season 15’s “Flowers Grow Out of My Grave,” the character briefly appeared through archived footage. He returned again in Season 17, appearing in Meredith’s dreamlike beach visions while she battled COVID-19.
That comeback served as a reminder that even after countless shocking deaths and cast exits across Grey's Anatomy’s 22-season run, George was one of the most impactful.
