Amazon’s 'Pretty' $24 Short-Sleeved Knit Cardigan Is the 'Breathable' Layer Your Wardrobe Needs

Thu, 05/07/2026 - 4:45am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

While we’re all excited to break out the sandals and sundresses the second spring arrives (myself included), the reality soon sets in. The weather does not actually care about our seasonal optimism. One day it’s sunny and 72 degrees outside, the next it’s pouring rain, and then you’re back in a jacket, wondering what happened to the warmth you just had yesterday. Spring loves a plot twist, and your closet has to keep up with the mood swings.

You need pieces that can come and go with the temperature — something light enough for midday sunshine, but still reliable when things cool off again. The Prettygarden Pointelle Short-Sleeve Cardigan at Amazon is ready to take on that role. Now $24, marked down 51% from $49, it’s a true grab-and-go piece that keeps you warm without adding bulk.

This pointelle cardigan is a delicately detailed knit that feels far more intricate than it first lets on, with patterning that reveals itself the closer you look. The blend of 55% acrylic and 45% cotton has a soft and breathable feel, while the vertical pointelle construction builds subtle texture throughout. Some sections feature fine, ladder-like openwork that runs in clean vertical lines, while others shift into small diamond and dotted eyelet motifs.

Offered in six colors and sizes from small through XX-large, this cardigan is an easy spring staple. A soft V-neckline is framed with scalloped edging that continues down the button placket, bringing in a vintage touch, while the tonal buttons blend right into the knit, so the texture stays the main focus.

The lightweight knit makes it simple to layer, but structured enough to wear on its own as a top. It works just as easily with denim — high-rise jeans or cutoffs for an everyday look — as it does with slip skirts or tailored trousers when you want something a bit more elevated. Buttoned up, it reads like a polished top that highlights the scalloped neckline; worn open, it becomes a soft layering piece over tanks or dresses.

The reviews section made it quite clear how much shoppers loved this “very cute” and “super comfy” knit, calling it “lightweight and breathable,” and “great for warmer weather.” One shopper wrote, “This sweater is a really lovely piece that feels surprisingly high quality right out of the package. The material has a nice thickness that gives it structure and durability.”

That same reviewer added, “The pattern is very pretty and adds a stylish, textured look that makes it stand out from basic tops.”

Oceania Cruises Just Dropped Two 180-Day World Cruises—and They’re a 'Slow-Travel' Dream

Thu, 05/07/2026 - 4:10am

If you’ve ever felt like a cruise moves just a little too fast, you aren't alone. While sister brand Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its high-energy, big-ship thrills, Oceania has always carved out a niche for the culinary-obsessed traveler.

Now, they are doubling down on that reputation with the launch of the Oceania Aurelia. Set to debut in late 2027, this ship isn't just a simple refurbishment—it’s a total transformation of the former Oceania Nautica, redesigned specifically to serve as what Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer, calls "the ultimate world explorer."

Related: Why Norwegian’s High-End Sister Brand Just Became The Smartest Move For Your Bucket List Trip

Oceania Cruises

The most striking part of the Aurelia isn't what’s being added, but what’s being taken away. Oceania is actually reducing the ship's capacity from 684 guests to fewer than 500, essentially trading crowded pool decks for "an intimate, residential ambiance" and more personal space. It’s a move that aligns perfectly with the current "slow living" trend, giving travelers a smaller, more club-like home base for the newly announced 180-day Around the World voyages in 2028 and 2029.

The real "Oceania take" here is the focus on destination immersion. These aren't the kind of cruises where you have eight hours in a port and then rush back for a buffet. The Aurelia is scheduled for extensive overnight port stays in bucket-list spots like Sydney, Bali, Tokyo, Seville and Bordeaux. According to Montague, these itineraries are designed for "curious travelers who want to explore the world in elegant comfort with the chance to enjoy more time ashore and experience well-loved and new favorite destinations in depth."

Beyond the extra time in port, the ship will offer "Mid-Cruise Overland Programs" that take guests deep into the interior to see landmarks like Machu Picchu, Petra and the Taj Mahal. Onboard, the luxury experience is being leveled up with new suite categories—179 of the 238 rooms are suites, most over 300 square feet—and a crew-to-guest ratio of nearly one-to-one. Reservations for these epic, half-year journeys open on May 13, 2026. Whether you’re looking for a 180-day odyssey or a 70-day Grand Voyage through the Baltics, the Aurelia is making a strong case for the idea that the best way to see the world is to take your time doing it.

If summer shoes are already starting to pile up by the front door, Target has a storage deal that can make any entryway feel a lot more manageable. Right now, the Costway 9-Cube Adjustable Storage Bench is on sale for up to 79% off, and it’s available in two colors: rustic brown and white. The best deal on the rustic brown version for $78, down from $370, while the white version has the lowest sale price overall at $70, down from $140.

The bench measures 43.5 inches long by 12 inches wide by 19.5 inches high and weighs 35.5 pounds. It has nine open cubbies with removable, adjustable shelves, plus a side cabinet with a push-to-open door for smaller items. The seat has a detachable padded cushion with a linen fabric cover and sponge filling, and the frame is made from engineered wood. The seat can hold up to 300 pounds, while each rack and the door cabinet can hold up to 11 pounds.

The cubbies can hold sandals, sneakers, slippers, heels, or kids’ shoes, and the adjustable shelves offer extra height for different pairs as the seasons change. The side cabinet is ideal for everyday items like dog leashes, reusable bags, sunscreen, sunglasses, or anything else that tends to collect near the door. It can also work well in a hallway, bedroom, mudroom, closet area, or under a window.

Shoppers have called it the “perfect size,” noting that it’s “beautiful” and “very easy to put together.” One reviewer described it as “compact,” praising its “soft seating” and “very versatile” design, while another wrote, “It is super cute, and we get many compliments on it.” One person even uses it to hold books, toys, and plants under windows, with the bench becoming a spot where their dog and guests enjoy sitting.

The bench offers plenty of open storage for shoes, hidden storage for smaller clutter, and a convenient and comfortable padded seat. The adjustable shelves also make it more useful than a fixed cubby bench, especially if your storage needs change. And since it comes in two neutral, versatile colors, styling it with other furniture and rugs is a breeze.

If your front door area, hallway, or bedroom could use a little more order before summer fully kicks in, the Costway 9-Cube Adjustable Storage Bench is worth a look. Reese celebrated her birthday with a pink-themed party that featured luxury decorations, flowers, balloons and gifts. The basketball star also shared photos of curated dinner details, collaborations with magazines and several moments from the celebration on social media.

One beautiful piece of furniture can completely change the tempo of your living space. Sofas in particular can have that effect because they enhance comfort and give people even more reason to relax for a while. When room is at a premium, though, finding something that's both functional and practical for the space can be a challenge.

A loveseat is one of the best solutions, whether you want to make the most of your room's real estate or you just want something to fill an empty space anywhere in the home. The Yaheetech Corduroy Loveseat opens up a world of seating possibilities, fitting comfortably into even the most unexpected spaces. Normally $120 at Walmart, it's on sale in beige for only $84 right now. There are also green and dark gray versions available for $90 and $87, respectively.

Coming in at 39 inches wide by 24 inches deep by 33.5 inches tall, it's compact enough to slide into snug spots like the corner of a room or a reading nook. At the same time, it makes a classy addition to a living area that could benefit from some extra seating. You could even use it as an anchor piece to tie the entire layout together.

Corduroy has had something of a design revival in recent years, too. The ribbed texture evokes the warm and cozy vibe that defines farmhouse and cozy cabin aesthetics, and it can fit in nicely whether your vibe leans more rustic or warm. On this couch, the rich material is paired with plump foam cushioning to ensure maximum comfort inside and out.

While it evokes that conventionally homey feel, this loveseat is equally modern thanks to its clean, armless design. It's also equipped with USB-A and USB-C ports, so you can simply plug in your device, sit back, and get to work without getting up. That's especially convenient in larger rooms or spaces where an outlet may not be situated near the loveseat.

One shopper shared that it's "comfortable and the perfect size," while another reviewer said that the overall look was "very cute."

No matter where you intend to place it, the Yaheetech Corduroy Loveseat will add an inherently lived-in touch to any room while also providing some tech-forward convenience to make life simpler. At this price, it's a great option that will easily elevate your home's style and comfort.

Quote of the Day: Trisha Yearwood Shares Her Secret to Self-Love

Thu, 05/07/2026 - 2:47am

Patricia Lynn "Trisha" Yearwood was born in Monticello, Georgia—a tiny farming town of just 2,000 people—and raised by her elementary school teacher mom Gwen and banker dad Jack. By the age of six, a pint-sized Trisha had already discovered her passion and was singing her own songs into a tape recorder. And at 15, she begged her parents to let her drop out of high school and chase a record deal in Nashville, but they did not agree.

Trisha's big dreams were put on hold, but she had a hero at home. "My mom was so adventurous and so vital," Yearwood told Parade in 2021. "And she enjoyed every moment. I never heard her say anything negative about herself. I never heard her say she wished she didn't look a certain way or didn't have wrinkles. She embraced all of it."

The three-time Grammy winner finished high school in 1982 and earned her associate's degree before enrolling at the University of Georgia. During her first semester as a Bulldog, she made a deal with her parents: She'd finish college, but only if she could transfer to Nashville's Belmont University and study music business. In 1985, Trisha loaded up her pickup truck and headed to Music City.

While she chased her dream, Trisha worked as a tour guide at the Country Music Hall of Fame, took a receptionist job at MTM Records and recorded demos for $10 to $30 a song. At night, she performed wherever she could land a gig—from bars to bowling alleys and everything in between. But in 1989, she headed to the studio to lay vocals on another demo—only this time, it was a duet she'd be recording with another aspiring country singer: one Garth Brooks.

The session went well, and the two became fast friends. But it would take more than a great connection to break through. Trisha kept hustling—sharpening her voice, working more demo sessions and networking at every label showcase she could get into. Then, in 1990, she performed at a label showcase that would change everything. Nashville producer Tony Brown was in the audience that night and when he heard Trisha sing, he knew she was it and signed her to MCA Nashville on the spot.

The payoff was immediate. In April 1991, Trisha released her debut single "She's in Love with the Boy"—and it rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard country charts, making her the first female country artist in 27 years to do so with a debut single. Her self-titled album would become country music's first platinum debut in two decades. That same year, she reunited with Brooks—except this time around, they weren't recording demos—they were performing at arenas!

But as her fame grew, so did the pressure to look perfect. The media glare on female celebrities in the '90s was brutal—and something Trisha struggled with. "When you're younger, it's all about what size jeans you're in," she told Parade. She sold over 15 million records and won three Grammys, but found herself focused on other numbers: her waist size and what the scale read. But over the years, she learned to love herself and has incredible wisdom to share about her decades-long journey. And that's why Trisha Yearwood is today's quote of the day.

Quote of the Day by Trisha Yearwood

CanvaPro/Parade

"It's not about being perfect; it's about being healthy and happy in your own skin."

We live in a society that constantly reduces women to numbers. That makes them feel like they'll be beautiful after they reach a number on the scale or fit into a size 2 jeans. But Trisha is saying that whatever our idea of "perfect" is, beauty isn't a destination. It's being happy and healthy with where we are now. It's time to stop chasing our idea of perfection and choose ourselves, for everything we are—and no number could ever possibly define that.

Deeper Meaning of Trisha Yearwood's Quote—Choose Yourself

It's hard to believe that someone with three Grammy Awards, a Daytime Emmy and one of the most distinctive voices in country music ever struggled with her self-worth. But for Trisha, that struggle was a constant companion for decades.

"I look back at the pictures and I'm like, 'Oh my God, there's not a line on your face! Why were you so hard on yourself?'" she once told NewBeauty. It's a feeling so many women know all too well: looking back at old photos and wondering why on earth we couldn't see what was right there. But somewhere along the way, Trisha started giving herself grace. "As a woman in my late 50s, I feel comfortable in my own skin," she told Parade in 2021. "It took me a long time to get here."

That's the deeper meaning of her quote. Self-acceptance isn't a destination—it's a daily practice. It's making the conscious choice to stop measuring yourself against impossible standards. It's choosing to forgive yourself for all the years you spent being unkind to the woman in the mirror. And it's knowing that being healthy and happy in your own skin is worth so much more than being "perfect" in someone else's eyes.

The realization inspired her 2025 album, fittingly titled The Mirror. “If you could see yourself and not know it was you, you wouldn’t be so critical," she said on TODAY. "We look in the mirror and we pick ourselves apart. But if you could kind of see yourself from the distance, you might go ‘Hey, she looks good!’ The earlier you can learn that, the better.”

More Quotes From Trisha Yearwood
  • "The great trade-off as you get older is there's wrinkles and sometimes your back hurts and whatever, but the cool thing is you will become more and more confident in who you are."
  • "I don't believe you should ever go and try to hide your body...At the end of the day, if you are hung up on wishing that you had lost those last twenty pounds, you are missing out. It's just not worth it."
  • "No matter how I feel about myself, somebody is going to love it, and someone is going to hate it, so I have to base how I feel on how I actually feel about myself—not how someone else feels about me."
  • "I feel like women especially, we're pretty much our own worst critics. But feeling strong and healthy is a really powerful thing."
  • "I'm 61 years old and this portal has opened. I feel like I have this whole new phase of my life."

LU KALA’s appearance also connects directly to one of her biggest songs. Her viral hit “Pretty Girl Era” became one of her breakthrough tracks and later charted on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. The team even referenced the song title in its announcement post.

LU KALA has quickly become one of Canada’s rising pop stars. Born Lusamba Vanessa Kalala in Congo, she moved to Canada at a young age and grew up in Toronto and Ajax, Ontario. Before becoming a recording artist, she worked behind the scenes as a songwriter and earned credits on songs connected to artists like Jennifer Hudson and Katy Perry.

Her career reached a wider audience in 2023 when she appeared on “Lottery” with rapper Latto. The song entered both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100, helping introduce LU KALA to international listeners.

Since then, the singer has continued building momentum. Her EP, No Tears on This Ride, released in April 2025, included songs such as “Hotter Now” and “Pretty Girl Era.” The project helped push her profile even higher as she launched her own tour and later joined tours with Cyndi Lauper and Aqua.

Beyond music, LU KALA has also spoken openly about mental health, self-worth, and confidence. In a previous interview with Flaunt Magazine, she explained the message behind her work by saying, “It means to see yourself, to value yourself, to love yourself, to be okay with making mistakes and still keep on going.”

The halftime announcement arrives as excitement continues to grow around the Tempo’s first season. Toronto enters the WNBA with a roster that mixes experienced veterans and younger talent.

Among the team’s biggest names are Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey, who are expected to lead the offense during the expansion franchise’s debut season. Veteran Canadian guard Kia Nurse has also become a major fan favorite because of her connection to Canada Basketball.

The roster includes other notable players such as Julie Allemand, Nyara Sabally, Temi Fagbenle and rookie Kiki Rice.

There is also attention around Canadian forward Yvonne Ejim, who is fighting for a spot on the final roster after previously being drafted by the Indiana Fever.

Toronto currently has 16 players under contract, but WNBA teams are limited to 12 active roster spots and two developmental positions during the regular season. Final roster decisions are expected before the opening game.

Now, with LU KALA added to opening night, the organization is blending basketball and music to create a major event for Canadian sports fans.

Clarks’ 'Beautiful' and 'Supportive' Loafers Feel 'Like Walking on Clouds,' and They’re Just $42 at Amazon

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

When you’re spending long days on your feet, comfort matters just as much as style. Sneakers usually get the job done, but they can feel bulky or too sporty for certain settings. That’s where a loafer-style slip-on stands out — it offers the same support you need while keeping a clean, streamlined look that feels appropriate for a wider range of activities. This allows you to transition from a long walk or a flight directly into a business meeting, a nice dinner, or a gallery without feeling underdressed.

One option that balances comfort and style is the Clarks Women's Breeze Step II Loafers. Right now, they’re on sale for 40% off at Amazon, bringing the price down from $70 to just $42. It’s a solid deal for a pair you’ll likely wear often.

These loafers come in sizes 5 through 12 and are available in narrow, medium, and wide widths. That range makes it easier to find a comfortable fit no matter your foot shape. You can choose between a neutral beige or classic black, both of which are easy to style.

They’re designed with comfort-focused features like the brand’s proprietary Contoured Comfort and Cushion Plus technology. The breathable textile upper keeps things light, while the soft EVA footbed and high-density foam provide support throughout the day. The flexible sole and low 25-millimeter heel help keep your stride natural and easy.

In terms of design, these are a true hybrid shoe. They combine the structure of a classic loafer with the feel of a lightweight sneaker. The result is something that looks put-together but still feels easy enough for all-day wear.

Styling them is simple because of their minimal design. They work well with linen trousers and a button-down for a relaxed, summer-ready look. You can also pair them with leggings and an oversized sweater for something more casual, or dress them up with a blazer and tailored pants.

The slip-on design makes them ideal for travel days, especially at the airport. They’re comfortable enough for long walks or sightseeing, yet polished enough for casual office settings or daily commutes.

This beloved style has over 200 five-star reviews. One shopper described them as “beautiful” and “well-constructed,” adding that they feel “like walking on clouds.” They added, “The extra padding in the heel and across the bridge make these slip-ons the only summer shoes for me. No socks? No problem!”

Another shared, “They're one of my new go-to shoes. They're very easy to slip on and the sole is comfy. My feet get sore easily, so finding supportive shoes is important to me.”

1972 Classic, Written While Recovering From Surgery, Became a No. 1 Hit for Four Weeks

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:31pm

In 1972, Johnny Nash released a song that would define his career and become one of the most recognizable hits in pop music history.

“I Can See Clearly Now” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for four straight weeks, marking a peak moment for the singer-songwriter who had already lived several musical lives before his biggest success arrived.

The track was released as the lead single from his twelfth album of the same name. After a steady climb on the charts, it surged from No. 20 to No. 5 and then to No. 1, where it remained for a full month. It also topped the Adult Contemporary chart for the same four-week stretch and became a gold-certified record after selling more than one million copies.

According to Billboard, “I Can See Clearly Now” was reportedly written during a period when Nash was recovering from cataract surgery, a detail often linked to the song’s message of renewed vision and emotional clarity. While some reports differ slightly on the exact medical details, the core idea remains consistent: the song came from a personal moment of challenge and healing.

The lyrics reflect that shift from struggle to hope, describing a brighter outlook after hardship. Nash’s delivery, combined with a reggae-influenced arrangement, helped turn that feeling into something universal.

The recording was made in London with members of The Fabulous Five Inc., blending pop structure with early reggae rhythms that Nash had helped introduce to American audiences.

The song’s impact extended far beyond the United States. It reached No. 1 in countries including Canada and South Africa, while also charting strongly in the United Kingdom and other international markets. Its success marked one of the early moments when reggae-influenced pop crossed into mainstream global radio.

In the U.S., it became Nash’s biggest hit, standing apart from earlier songs like “Hold Me Tight” and “You Got Soul.” It also helped define his reputation as one of the first American artists to bring reggae sounds into popular music at scale.

The song’s chart dominance was also consistent across formats. It led both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts for four weeks, showing strong crossover appeal among different audiences.

“I Can See Clearly Now” did not fade after its initial success. It became one of the most covered songs of its era, with interpretations by artists such as Ray Charles and Donny Osmond.

One of the most well-known versions came from Jimmy Cliff, whose 1993 cover was featured in the film Cool Runnings and brought the song back to the Billboard Hot 100 nearly two decades later.

Cliff’s version reached No. 18 on the Hot 100 and introduced the track to a new generation of listeners. Johnny Nash’s original version, however, remains the defining recording. Its blend of pop melody, reggae rhythm and uplifting lyrics helped it stand apart in the early 1970s music landscape.

'90s Top-Ranked Game Heads to Nintendo Switch 2 — But Fans Offer Mixed Response

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:17pm

The summer box office is looking pretty enticing. Until then, this year's highest grossing movie goes to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Expanding on the first one from 2023, the sequel introduced a number of equally nostalgic video-game characters, such as Star Fox (voiced by Glen Powell).

For anyone doubtful of his Super Mario connection, Fox was part of the Super Smash Bros. crew as one of the playable characters. But Fox also had his own Nintendo 64 game, which launched two years earlier in 1997 — and is now getting remade for Nintendo Switch 2.

That's right, fans. the Star Fox 64 legacy is not to be forgotten. What looks to be a new-and-improved version of the iconic 1990s game will hit the shelves June 25, IGN reports. The website also posted first-look images to its Instagram on Wednesday, May 6 — check them out below.

View this post on Instagram

While the idea of an updated Star Fox game may sound enticing, fans haven't held back in the comments section of IGN's post with their thoughts on the newly designed looks for each beloved character. "Idk. The hyper realistic look isn’t for me. Still excited though," wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "They should've maybe used the graphic style from the new Mario movie, not a big fan of hyper realistic 😭."

Not everyone was against the new look of Star Fox. Someone else commented, "I don’t get all the hate. I love that Nintendo is embracing a new art style. This is easily the highest fidelity they’ve ever attempted. Fox looks a little off, but that feels more like a redesign issue than an art style issue. The cutscenes look insane, and the voice acting is actually good for once."

Looking back at the nostalgic console's vast collection of games, Star Fox 64 has often been viewed as one of Nintendo 64's best video games ever. As discussed in a Reddit chat a couple years ago, it launched N64's popular "rumble pack," which could attach onto the back of your controller to further immerse gamers into the on-screen experience.

1937 'Instant Success' Fantasy Novel Ranked a 'Best Book of the 20th Century'

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:15pm

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

One simple sentence written on a blank page by Professor J. R. R. Tolkien that would become a critically acclaimed fantasy novel which would go on to become one of the most beloved novels of all time. On Goodreads and elsewhere, the book starring Bilbo Baggins as the titular hobbit is indisputably one of the "Best Books of the 20th Century."

By the early 1930s, Tolkien had finished his manuscript and sent it to several friends, including fellow writer C.S. Lewis. In 1936 Susan Dagnall, a staff member of the publisher George Allen & Unwin, was given or loaned a copy by a former student of Tolkein's from the University of Oxford and she urged publisher Stanley Unwin to consider it for publication. When Unwin's 10-year-old son, Rayner, loved the story, it convinced him to publish the novel.

Set in Middle-earth, The Hobbit centers on Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who lives a comfortable and peaceful life in his hobbit-hole at Bag End. Bilbo's life is somewhat upended when Gandalf the wizard and a group of dwarves enlist his services to go on a quest to reclaim their home on Lonely Mountain (and its massive treasure) from the dragon Smaug. After some coaxing, Bilbo joins the quest, encountering several things along the way including trolls, elves, giant spiders, goblins, and a magical ring that lets him turn invisible. Throughout his journey, Bilbo finds the courage and resourcefulness he didn't know he possessed. After several battles and instances of unexpected bravery, Bilbo returns to his home in the Shire with a much more vast outlook on his once little, somewhat unassuming world.

The first run of The Hobbit in September of 1937 was for 1500 copies, but it sold out by December due to the enthusiasm and buzz surrounding the book. Additionally, it was met with almost unanimous acclaim. C.S. Lewis wrote of the book for The Times:

"The truth is that in this book a number of good things, never before united, have come together: a fund of humour, an understanding of children, and a happy fusion of the scholar's with the poet's grasp of mythology... The professor has the air of inventing nothing. He has studied trolls and dragons at first hand and describes them with that fidelity that is worth oceans of glib "originality."

The book was nominated for a  Carnegie Medal, and was awarded by the New York Herald Tribune for best juvenile fiction of 1938. Now almost 90-year's post-publication, The Hobbit has sold an estimated 100 million copies world wide, making it one of the best-selling books of all time. It has been adapted numerous times, most recently in 2014 with the live-action film version directed by Peter Jackson.

Readers still love The Hobbit and regularly praise the impact it has had on them and largely agree in terms of books, there are few better or quite like it.
