This New Horror Novel Asks: What If ‘The Breakfast Club’ Ended Up in ‘Scream’?

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 11:19am

A new horror novel arriving June 23 is already drawing attention from readers who love both nostalgic slashers and modern horror twists.

In "Slasher Summer," author E. L. Chen imagines what happens when a group of friends who spent their teenage years acting out the roles from a cult slasher movie find themselves trapped in a real-life nightmare.

The novel, which was included on Penguin Random House's list of the biggest books arriving in June, centers on seven former friends who reunite years after high school at the remote cabin where a campy 1980s horror movie called Slasher was filmed.

View this post on Instagram

Back in their teenage years, each member of the group embraced a familiar archetype. There was the jock, the cheerleader, the goth, the stoner, the nerd and, of course, the Final Girl. But when they gather for what should be a fun reunion weekend, someone begins recreating the events of the fictional movie they once loved. Tires are slashed, communication is cut off and a masked killer appears.

The setup has earned comparisons to some beloved pop-culture touchstones. Author Ian Rogers described the novel as asking, "What if the cast of The Breakfast Club ended up in the world of Scream?"

Part of the appeal of "Slasher Summer" is the way it blends familiar horror-movie tropes with questions about identity and friendship. While the novel promises masked killers, isolated cabins and Final Girl mythology, the publisher notes that the story is also about the roles people play in high school and how difficult those labels can be to leave behind as adults.

Early reviews have been enthusiastic. Justine Pucella Winans called the book a "blood-soaked delight," while author Daphne Fama praised it as a "smart, disturbing homage to the slasher tradition."

The timing also feels right. Horror novels continue to be one of publishing's hottest categories, with readers embracing everything from traditional slashers to elevated psychological horror. "Slasher Summer" appears poised to appeal to both audiences, combining bloody set pieces with a mystery centered on a group of friends forced to confront their pasts.

Chen is already familiar to horror readers through novels including "Sweetside Motel," "Summerwood/Winterwood" and the upcoming "One of Us Is Already Dead." According to her publisher biography, her fiction has appeared in publications including Strange Horizons, On Spec and The Dark, and she lives in Toronto with her son and what she jokingly describes as a towering to-be-read pile.

For readers looking for a summer horror read packed with nostalgia, mystery and plenty of bloodshed, Slasher Summer arrives June 23.

Critics Call Award-Winning 2009 Novel 'Sag Harbor' the 'Perfect Summer Book'

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 11:10am

There's no shortage of worthwhile novels to pack for your next trip to the beach, be it a fast-paced thriller or a more uplifting romantic novel.

But even then, The New Yorker feels confident they might very well have found the ultimate to book to take with you on a summer beach trip, as detailed in a new story from the iconic literary magazine.

Speaking about some of their favorite books to read for the summer, The New Yorker's reporters specifically pointed to award-winning author Colson Whitehead's 2009 novel Sag Harbor as one of their favorite books to flip through for the season.

"I spent a weekend last summer in front of my air-conditioner reading Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead, a coming-of-age story set in 1985," a reporter for the outlet shared. "That might be the perfect summer-in-New-York novel."

True to the magazine's description, Sag Harbor follows a Black teenager who spends the summer of 1985 in Sag Harbor, New York: a predominantly Black neighborhood in the mostly white-populated community of Long Island.

Touching upon themes of race, class, gentrification and differing cultures, Sag Harbor served as one of the earliest breakout successes for Whitehead, who would go on to numerous awards within the literary world in the decades to come.

Eight years later, Whitehead would win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his 2016 novel, The Underground Railroad, as well as the National Book Award for Fiction for that same novel. In 2020, he won his second Pulitzer for his novel The Nickel Boys, becoming one of only four writers to ever win the prize twice.

In more recents year, the best-selling author has remained hard at work on his equally well-loved Harlem Trilogy, spanning 2021's Harlem Shuffle and continuing with 2023's Crook Manifesto. He is set to formally conclude the trilogy with Cool Machine on July 21 of this year.

Clive Davis, Legendary Music Mogul Who Discovered Whitney Houston, Dead at 94

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 11:08am

Iconic music producer Clive Davis has died. He was 94.

Davis, who was hospitalized in May for an upper respiratory infection, "passed away peacefully from age-related illness … surrounded by his family and loved ones," his longtime publicist confirmed to USA Today on Monday.

In an Instagram post shared to his account by his family, he was referred to as an "iconic music legend whose vision, instincts, and relentless pursuit of excellence shaped the soundtrack of countless lives."

Davis, was known for working with a young Aretha Franklin and discovering Whitney Houston, among many other artists who became icons of music history. His eye for musicians spanned genres as he bolstered the careers and fame of Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, and later, artists like Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, per The Times.

"We're good partners, we make a good team because we both love music," Houston said in an MTV interview. "I'm talking about music...with great melodies, standards that will last a lifetime through people."

When asked by Billboard this year to name a favorite Houston song, Davis instead talked about the thrill of her success on the charts, not being able to pick just one. As for her 1987 hit, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," he told the outlet that he was "surprised and gratified" when it hit No. 1.

A staple of the music industry himself, he also became known for throwing legendary parties ahead of every Grammy Awards.

The life of Davis, which started in music law, was profiled in a 2017 documentary Clive Davis: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. He was also depicted by Stanley Tucci in the biopic Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody in 2022.

He was a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn in 1932. Davis was married twice and is a father of four.

While his personal life largely stayed behind the scenes the years he was churning out hits including Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and Santana's "Smooth," he came out as bisexual in 2013.

“After my second marriage failed…I just found that I would open myself up to the possibility of a relationship based on the person and not on gender,” he said during an appearance at New York's 92nd Street Y. “It was frankly intimidating in the sense that the adage is true…nobody believes in it. You’re either gay or straight or you’re lying. You get tired of not making any progress.”

As for current musicians he may have had his eye on to work with in 2026, he told Billboard that Olivia Dean and Alex Warren came to mind.

'Love Island USA': What Does 'French Fries,' A New Code Word, Mean?

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 11:05am

The islanders on Love Island USA sometimes come up with code words to discuss bedroom activities. A couple took a new step, and another islander called it "french fries." Here is what it means and why that couple might be over.

Spoiler alert for Love Island USA Season 8 Episode 17!

What Does French Fries Mean on 'Love Island USA'? Trinity Tatum on 'Love Island USA'

Ben Symons/Peacock

The couples had fun before they slept in episode 17. Melanie Moreno and Sincere Rhea kissed passionately. Kenzie Annis was on top of Corbin Mims. The other islanders heard some noises and the girls talked about it in the morning in the dressing room.

"Which one of yous [sic] was doing french fries?" Trinity Tatum asked the ladies. Kenzie screamed. She and Bryce [Dettloff] said what they heard was more than kissing.

Kenzie continued screaming and fell to the floor. "I knew it was you," Trinity told her. The narrator Iain Stirling joked about the confusing term in the episode.

"Hello, I am Mystic Iain, and I foresee that, in approximately 30 seconds, millions of Americans will Google, 'french fries sex?'"

The code word "french fries" refers to a finger food, fingers are the most important part of decoding the conversation. Kenzie talked to Trinity about it later while doing yoga. Trinity said Kenzie and Corbin should go to the Hideaway next.

"We were probably doing a bit much, but I feel a strong connection with Corbin and we probably got a little carried away," Kenzie said in the confessional. But the same episode introduces Casa Amor, and that might tear the couple apart.

The women were dressed up and ready to give their partners a sexy dance. The men did the same, and then they got a text that they needed to sneak out for Casa Amor. The women went outside to find out the men weren't there, but they had a TV to watch them in Casa Amor.

New women for Casa Amor were dressed as different characters and danced on the men before they returned the favor. Corbin kissed Amora Cachee. He told Parmida Keshani to "go to work, baby" then kissed her. The Miami native said she is similar to Miami girls, and he was "in trouble."

The ladies were upset about this. "And put your tongue in your f---ing mouth," Trinity said. "'Cause you could have got sent the f--k home." Kayda Bosse agreed and said they should've picked him over Gabriel Vasconcelos.

The TV turned off after the Casa Amor girls finished dancing and before the men danced. "F--k Corbin," Kenzie said in the confessional. "F--k the relationship 'cause clearly it was not real. I'm too smart, I'm too beautiful, I'm too amazing for a sh-t sandwich like Corbin."

Kenzie told the islanders that she's never talking to him again. The villas are close enough for the islanders to hear each other. The ladies heard the Casa Amor women chanting "Casa" after the men danced.

Kenzie wanted to scream back at them. "F-ck you!" she and Kayda shouted back. The Casa girls heard it and looked worried. The episode ended with a teaser that 12 Casa Boys were going to meet the ladies. Kenzie is fired up and might make a new connection.

2008 Alt Rock Song Hit No. 1 and Made History With Digital-Only Release

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 11:05am

"I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word..." Couldn't agree more, Chris Martin.

Hey Coldplay fans, what's your favorite song by the band? It might be hard to pick.

Back in 2008, one of their catchiest tracks was released, quickly climbing to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 that week.

"Viva la Vida" would also win Coldplay a Grammy Award for Song of the Year, but not before making history with its chart success overseas.

Monday, June 22 marks 18 years since the beloved group landed its first-ever No. 1 hit in the U.K. thanks to the alternative rock thumper. It also became the first download-only song to become a chart-topper, since "Viva la Vida" wasn't released in a physical format in the country.

Coldplay routinely performs the number at its memorable, light-filled concerts, including the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2016. "Viva la Vida" is instantly recognizable once the looping piano hook kicks off, as fans well know.

Last month, in honor of Spotify's 20th anniversary, the platform released a series of lists that detailed the most-played music in its history. Among these is the “Most Streamed Songs of All Time,” which highlights 20 of the top-performing tracks that have had music fans listening billions of times.

One of the songs that made the list is “Yellow” by Coldplay. Released in 2000, the track was the British rock band’s breakthrough hit, catapulting the four-piece — vocalist and pianist Martin, 49, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion — into international stardom. Since Spotify’s inception, the song has been streamed over 3.7 billion times, placing it at No. 15 in the list.

“Yellow” was the second single off the band’s debut album, Parachutes. While the song has become one of Coldplay’s most popular songs to date, it surprisingly never reached the top spot in the charts.

1991 Iconic Hit, Which Was Recorded in a Single Take, Was Never Sung Live by Its Lead Vocalist

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:57am

In 1990, Brian May had a song that he didn’t think would be possible for Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury. Yet, “The Show Must Go On” was recorded in one breathtaking shot.

Released in 1991 and credited to Queen, despite May being the one to pen it, “The Show Must Go On” is a heartbreaking look at Mercury’s private battle with AIDs. After being diagnosed in 1987, he refused to give up, and he continued to record for as long as he could.

However, May had his doubts. By the time the iconic track was ready, May admitted to Mercury that he may not have had the vocal strength to pull it off. What came next was a masterpiece. Mercury downed his shot of vodka and said, “I’ll f–king do it, darling,” before heading into the recording booth. The legend recorded it all in one take, surprising everyone, making it arguably his best performance in the recording booth ever.

When you start to look at the lyrics, you’ll see the message May was sharing as he wrote it. This song was specifically for Mercury, as the whole band knew that he was dying, but nobody wanted to speak about it. They would all speak through their music, and May offered Mercury a chance to share everything he was living through with one haunting song.

In an interview with Absolute Radio, May explained that there was something that spoke to him while he and the band were playing around with some chord sequences, “and the song just leapt into my head so vividly that I sort of questioned whether I’d heard it somewhere else. I could hear ‘The Show Must Go On’ so clearly in my head, and…when everybody had gone, I just put down a demo of it.”

In a bittersweet moment, Mercury would never get to sing the song live. He died six weeks after “The Show Must Go On” was released, at the age of 45. The first time this track would be played live would be on April 20, 1992, with Elton John performing the lead vocals. Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert have since performed the track with Queen live.

While the last track released while Mercury was alive, it wouldn’t become his last song ever to be recorded. “Mother Love” gained that title, although it was released posthumously in 1995. Mercury recorded the first two verses before telling the other members of Queen that he was too tired to continue recording and that he would return the next day. That never happened, with May singing the final verse.

'The Boroughs' Star Denis O’Hare Shares His Best 'Revenge' Plot After Netflix Cancellation

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:45am

Netflix's decision to cut The Boroughs after one season left many of the cast feeling upset, even actor Denis O’Hare. While speaking about how much fans love the series, O'Hare gives his two cents on how they can get their own revenge against the platform.

Despite the Duffer Brothers' success on Netflix withStranger Things, their venture with The Boroughs was cut short. Deadline announced last week that the series was cancelled, despite rumors of possible second and third season renewals. While the series had rave reviews from audiences and a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, the streaming platform felt its ratings weren't enough.

Following the news of the series cancellation, many of the cast members have come out to express their disappointment. O'Hare addressed it in an Instagram video uploaded on June 20. He spoke about how many fans loved the series and how many "related" to it.

“So, it’s Saturday, and I’m just thinking about the fact that Netflix canceled The Boroughs and how really bummed I am because it was such a great show. It was such a great show and people really seem to love it," said the actor.

“I’ve been astounded how many people have come up to me and talked about how much they like the show and not just like, you know, old people, but I’m talking about anybody, people who are, you know, in their 30s or 40s with kids. Everyone seemed to find something to relate to.”

The actor also added in the video a plan on how The Bouroughs fans can get back at Netflix. He suggested that fans "still have a couple of days before the end of Emmy voting" and they should spam it with votes for the now-cancelled series. Fans can vote for him or anyone in the cast, like Alfie Molina or Geena Davis.

“And vote for The Boroughs for Best Series and, you know, stick it to Netflix and let them know that they made a mistake, you know, because I think that would be sweet revenge. Anyway, I love the show, I miss it and, you know, whatever," he added.

O'Hare's co-star Davis spoke with The Hollywood Reporter to say she has no idea what happened to warrant a cancellation despite the series having been in the Top 10. She called it "rare" for a series not to be renewed with strong ratings, and added that the series creators were able to inform the cast before it became public.

Walmart's Plush Folding Sofa Is a Hosting Game-Changer, and It's Just $70 During Its Summer Deals Event

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:45am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

When furniture lovers look back on 2026, they may remember it as the year of the boneless couch. The trend has been taking off in a big way, as shoppers embrace the soft, unstructured loungers that basically blur the line between sofas and jumbo pillows. The Neche Corduroy Folding Sofa Bed offers a similar vibe in a more compact form.

That might be just the thing if you're looking to add extra seating to your home, but lack space for an actual sofa. This hybrid checks all of the boxes, combining classic style with unmatched support. Normally $160 at Walmart, the black, gray, and navy versions are now on sale for just $70. You can also score a white option for $90.

The beauty of the boneless design is that it's very much a set-it-and-forget-it situation. The product arrives tightly sealed in a single box. Simply break the seal to release the couch, which begins to expand in seconds. Give it a good pat and wait about 48 hours for it to reach its full form. There's absolutely no assembly required, a key reason people have gravitated to the trend.

The sofa also happens to be incredibly plush and supportive. It's the ultimate comfort ecosystem, with a headrest and lumbar pillow included for cushioning that feels great whether you're kicking back with a book or lying down for a nap. Both pieces conform to your natural shape, creating an almost personalized feel when you sit or recline.

Boneless structures maintain a sense of stability despite their lack of framework. This Walmart option is a great example, with thick shredded foam creating a firm and substantial base on which to relax. The material is covered with rich corduroy, known for its distinctive ribbed appearance. "This sofa bed is amazing," one shopper wrote. "It's incredibly comfortable and soft!"

"I really like this chair," another person said. "I wanted something I could easily move from room to room for my kiddo or dog and it's perfect. It's slightly heavy, but well worth it given how comfy it is since it's made of foam."

Kailyn Lowry Says Her Son’s Teenage Years Could Not Look More Different From Hers

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:40am

Kailyn Lowry is seeing just how different her oldest son's high school experience is from her own.

In a podcast clip shared on Instagram, the former Teen Mom 2 star spoke with her oldest son, Elliott, about his sophomore year, school involvement and the work he is doing to build his resume.

Lowry asked him what the experience has been like so far, including his time in the National Honor Society and his volunteering.

Kailyn Lowry Compared Her Teen Years to His View this post on Instagram

Lowry made it clear that her own high school experience looked very different.

"What has it been like for you?" she asked him. "Because I wasn't doing what you were doing, what you're doing right now."

Elliott seemed to know exactly what she meant.

"I know," he said. "The stories I hear, you know, the stories you've told me."

Lowry then got blunt about her own past.

"I was having sex and smoking weed," she said.

It was a candid moment, but it also showed how openly Lowry has talked to her son about the choices she made when she was younger.

Elliott Said He Loves Volunteering

Elliott's answer showed a very different focus.

"I love volunteering," he said.

He explained that while volunteering is not a typical job and does not come with a paycheck, he still sees real value in it.

"You're also giving back to the community," he said. "I really enjoy it."

He called the experience "beneficial" and "humbling."

"It helps a lot of people," he said. "It's not just for you. It's for everyone."

Lowry Has Been Open About Her Past

Lowry became known to viewers when she appeared on MTV's 16 and Pregnant and later Teen Mom 2, where audiences watched her become a mother as a teenager.

But in her conversation with Elliott, Lowry did not sound as if she were hiding it from him; instead, she seemed to be using it as a point of comparison as she asked about the choices he is making now.

Elliott Has Shared More of His Own Story

Elliott has also spoken publicly with Lowry before.

According to People, Lowry's oldest son joined her on Barely Famous last year and shared that he had come out and started going by his middle name, Elliott.

The conversation was part of a larger effort for him to speak about his life on his own terms after growing up, in part, in the public eye.

Legendary Actress, With a 5-Decade Career, Holds Oscar Record No Actor Has Ever Broken 23 Years Later

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:18am

Meryl Streep is spending her birthday the way she has spent most of the past five decades: at the very top of her field.

The actress turns 77 on Monday, June 22, and no performer in Hollywood has ever matched what she has done at the Academy Awards.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

A Record That Stands Alone

Streep has been nominated for 21 Academy Awards, more than any actor in the history of the ceremony. No one else has ever topped 12, a number shared by screen legends Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson. She broke the all-time record in 2003 with her 13th nomination, for Adaptation, and no actor has come close in the 23 years since.

Streep has won three times, for Kramer vs. Kramer in 1980, Sophie's Choice in 1983 and The Iron Lady in 2012, making her one of only a handful of performers ever to take home three competitive acting Oscars.

Her nominations stretch from her first nod for The Deer Hunter in the late 1970s to her most recent for The Post in 2018, covering drama, comedy, biopics and musicals along the way.

(Photo by Frederic J. BROWN / AFP via Getty Images)

Still Booking the Biggest Roles

Streep is not coasting on the record, either. She returned as fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which opened at No. 1 at the box office after hitting theaters on May 1, 2026. The sequel reunited her with Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, 20 years after the 2006 original became a pop culture landmark.

The film reminded audiences why Streep has stayed at the center of Hollywood for so long. Few actors can open a movie, anchor a prestige drama and steal a comedy in the same career, let alone the same decade.

For now, the birthday milestone is a reminder of a simple fact. When it comes to Oscar recognition, everyone else is still chasing Meryl Streep.

On This Day in 1993, 'One of the Best Albums' of the Decade Is Officially Released by Liz Phair

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:08am

On this day in 1993, Liz Phair forever made history with her sensational debut album, Exile in Guyville.

Often described as one of the greatest and most influential albums of the entire 1990s, Exile in Guyville marked indie superstar Phair's first foray into the mainstream music industry after a few short years spent self-publishing her own work.

Recorded in 1992 and 1993 by Phair and Brad Wood, the album was soon released on June 23, 1993 by Matador Records. Upon its debut, Exile in Guyville earned standout acclaim from average listeners and veteran critics alike, with both Spin and Village Voice placing. it as the number one album of the year in their respective critics poll.

Envisioned by Phair as a track-to-track response to the Rolling Stones' iconic 1972 album Exile on Main St., Exile in Guyville combined Phair's penchant for indie rock with her candid observations about the world around her.

Despite its massive success and certified gold status by 1998, Phair continues to hold a complex view of the album, believing it to be a decent enough project, but perhaps not worthy of the standout celebration it often receives.

However, the album has since gone on to be frequentlyey referenced as one of the greatest albums of the decade, with Rolling Stone even featuring the project favorably on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

As the magazine wrote of the project, "'Watch how fast they run to the flame,”'Liz Phair sang, and true to that promise her debut double LP set the underground on fire. Phair and co-producer Brad Wood built off the bedroom demo intimacy of Phair’s Girly-Sound cassette releases, creating a loose response record to the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street ('I had a lot to say on the subject matter they put forth,' she told Rolling Stone)."

"Her strikingly frank sex talk caused a media stir unheard of for a 'low-fi' artist, but it was the caffeinated drive of songs like '6’1' and 'Never Said,' the painterly sonic impressionism of the piano piece 'Canary' or the sunset majestic “Stratford-On-Guy,” and the real hurt and hunger of 'F*ck and Run' and 'Divorce Song' that made Exile hit home," the outlet went on to add.

Broderick recently shared new pictures from a photo shoot with photographer Brad Walsh. Wearing a variety of outfits, including a black tank, the celebrity son, who graduated from college last year, made it clear he’s all grown up these days.

“So dope!! Thank you @bradwalsh ❤️,” James captioned the photo set. In the comments, his mother joined in, beaming with pride.

“Ah handsome. And happy. Xxx, mama,” Parker commented.

Walsh noted on his own page that the photos will be included in his forthcoming book FELLA: IMAGES OF MEN.

James Wilkie Broderick graduated from Brown University in Providence, R.I., in 2025. The entire family descended on the tiny New England state in honor of the fun festivities.

Along with Parker and Broderick, twin sisters Tabitha and Loretta joined in for the fun and could be spotted strolling through the cobblestone streets with their elder brother. Looking dapper in a suit and tie under his black graduation gown, James Wilkie sported clean white sneakers and carried his graduation cap in his hands as he walked alongside his sisters, the Daily Mail reported.

For those who recallParker’s attempts to disguise her pregnancy during the fifth season of Sex and the City, it’s pretty wild to see her son graduate from college!

Parker Made Rare Comments About Her Family

While Parker tends to keep her personal life private, the Sex and the City alum made touching comments about her family while accepting the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes’ first-ever Golden Eve ceremony earlier this year.

“And to my beloved family, my brilliant husband Matthew Broderick, who has been my husband for just shy of 30 years,” Parker said, PEOPLE reported. “Who has given me a family discount, an all-access pass to his masterclass in acting, comedy and dedication.”

“And to the family we have made. Our divine James Wilkie, Loretta and Tabitha, oh God. I love you so deeply and admire so much the people that you are becoming. That every day at home and at work, I want to make you proud,” she noted.

David Beckham's Father's Day Post Featuring Estranged Son Brooklyn Has Fans Picking Sides

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:03am

David Beckham's Father's Day post has the internet divided on his family's drama amid his oldest son Brooklyn's estrangement from the family.

On Sunday, the soccer icon took to Instagram with a carousel of photos that, along with Brooklyn, consisted of sweet snaps of Cruz,Romeo, and Harper and a heartfelt caption to celebrate the holiday.

"Being a dad is my most important job... I love you all & thank you mummy @victoriabeckham For giving me our beautiful family," he wrote. "Happy Father's Day to all the Dads around the world"

View this post on Instagram

And while the photos seemingly represented happier times, before the couple's eldest son publicly cut ties with them, fans had mixed reactions to David's post:

"The group photo of all the kids together is a nice gesture, but the individual shot of Brooklyn just confirms his point that this family always has to air all their private business in the press," one wrote. "The son doesn't want that right now; it’s a trigger for him, and he probably feels like he isn't being taken seriously. Just let it go."

"Starting to think Brooklyn has been right all along," echoed a second, while a third said the post was "so staged and fake."

Another observed that "he chose the family photos before Brooklyn got married," acknowledging the fact that the alleged drama between the high-profile brood stems from tension leading up to Brooklyn's 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

However, other fans threw their support behind David, showing admiration for his "unconditional love" for his kids.

"Every [sic] son deserves a Dad like you," one wrote. "Congratulations for setting an example to many."

"C’mon Brooklyn love your dad, you only get one," added another.

"Love how he’s not left Brooklyn out even given him his own photo with dad this is so sad," said a third. "Both must be hurting today I’m sure."

Another fan also brought up Victoria's Father's Day post and how it also included Brooklyn.

"As Victoria did… You chose a photo with all the children…" they wrote. "That just shows me that you are loving parents… I believe parents are the only people in the world who always love you, no matter what you do."

In the months since Brooklyn's Instagram post, where he shared his reasoning for wanting to cut ties with his family and saying that he does "not want to reconcile," he has continued to react to his parents' gestures, specifically when he bashed them for wishing him a happy birthday on Instagram.

Most recently though, Brooklyn starred in a DoorDash ad where he said it was a "long story" as to why he wasn't attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a snarky nod to his soccer star dad.

1978 Jazz Rock Classic, Created for a Box Office Flop, Became a Defining Radio Anthem

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 10:03am

In 1978, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen was asked to develop a rock track for an upcoming comedy-drama directed by John A. Alonzo. Based on the film's storyline, Steely Dan released "FM (No Static at All)" that became a radio hit and a Grammy winner.

"FM (No Static at All)" gained traction when released as a single by the band and included in the 1978 film. FM was a moderate success after its release, making over $32 million at the box office against its $2 million budget. It was produced by Universal Pictures and starred Michael Brandon, Eileen Brennan, Alex Karras, Cleavon Little, Martin Mull, and Cassie Yates, with special appearances byLinda RonstadtandJimmy Buffett.

The film follows a DJ at an FM radio station and a group of charismatic on-air personalities playing hit rock and roll tracks. A new sales manager is soon brought in to help capitalize on the station's popularity and suggests broadcasting cheesy ads as advertising for the U.S. Army. When the DJ refuses, and the higher-ups are displeased, he quits. He wakes up the gollowng da to learn the rest of the staff have taken over the station with a sit-in protest.

FM received poor reviews from critics due to its storyline, but its soundtrack caught attention and sold millions of copies. Steely Dan was at the height of their career in 1977 and were in the midst of creating their album Aja when Fagen and Walter Becker received a call.

“There was a film called FM and we were asked to do the title song. And I said, ‘Does it have to have any specific words?’ And they said, ‘No, it just has to be about FM radio.’ We wrote that very quickly, I remember, in one or two days. And we also recorded it very quickly, too. Johnny Mandel came in and did the string chart. It was fun to meet Johnny Mandel," said Fagen, according to American Songwriter.

The rock duo hadn't written a song for a feature film since You've Got to Walk It Like You Talk It or You'll Lose That Beat in 1971. About the production of the track, Fagen reported that they developed it to sound good with a big production and used overdubbed strings that would work with theater speakers.

"FM (No Static at All)" ended up becoming a hit at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a radio anthem. While the duo was told to make the track about FM radio, it gained popularity for its commentary on the industry's current state. The track commented on FM becoming increasingly corporate and homogenized at the time.

The track also gained another accolade when recording engineer Roger Nichols won a Grammy for Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical in 1979. He received the same award a year earlier for Steely Dan's Aja.

1975 Soft Rock Classic, Nearly Abandoned Before Release, Became a Timeless Love Song

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 9:57am

In May 1975, a song that would become one of the defining love songs of its era was nearly thrown away before anyone outside the band ever heard it.

"I'm Not in Love" became the breakthrough international hit for 10cc, reaching No. 1 in the U.K. and climbing to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. But the classic almost never made it past the recording stage.

The track began when songwriter Eric Stewart's wife told him he didn't say "I love you" often enough. Stewart later explained to Sound on Sound that he felt constantly repeating the phrase could diminish its meaning, which inspired him to write a song that expressed devotion in a completely different way.

"I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah," it's not gonna mean anything eventually.' That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you,' while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship," said Stewart.

But when Stewart brought the original version to his bandmates, the reaction was far from enthusiastic. The song was initially arranged as a bossa nova-style track built around guitars, and fellow members Kevin Godley and Lol Creme disliked it so much that the band abandoned the recording and even erased it.

Fortunately for music fans, the melody refused to disappear.

After noticing staff members at Strawberry Studios continuing to sing the tune around the office, Stewart convinced the group to give it another chance. Godley proposed a radical new approach: scrap the traditional arrangement and rebuild the song almost entirely from voices.

The result was one of the most distinctive recordings of the decade. The band painstakingly layered dozens of vocal parts and used tape loops to create the song's famous ethereal backdrop, transforming a discarded demo into something unlike anything else on the radio at the time.

The gamble paid off. "I'm Not in Love" became 10cc's biggest worldwide hit and helped secure the band a lucrative new recording contract. The success also cemented the reputation of a group that had already built an impressive résumé long before becoming stars themselves.

Formed in 1972, 10cc brought together four musicians who were all writers, singers, producers and multi-instrumentalists. Graham Gouldman had already written hits for acts including The Yardbirds, Herman's Hermits and The Hollies before joining forces with Stewart, Godley and Creme.

The band would go on to score three U.K. No. 1 singles, including "Rubber Bullets," "I'm Not in Love" and later "Dreadlock Holiday."

More than 50 years after its release, "I'm Not in Love" remains a staple of classic-rock and soft-rock radio, proving that sometimes the songs closest to being thrown away end up lasting the longest.

The ‘Healthy’ Breakfast Staple That’s Silently Raising Your Blood Pressure, According to Cardiologists

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 9:50am

Blood pressure is an important part of health, and it can be influenced by everything from your genetics to your lifestyle choices. That includes what you eat for breakfast.

If you eat a variety of heart-healthy breakfast foods, you’re likely starting your day off right when it comes to blood pressure management. But if you always eat a certain “healthy” breakfast staple, you may be working against your goals.

“There are certainly foods with health halos that may not be as healthy as people think,” says Dr. Cheng-Han Chen, MD, interventional cardiologist and medical director of the Structural Heart Program at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center in Laguna Hills, CA. “It is important to know how some of these foods may be high in components that may be detrimental to heart health.”

Nearly half of American adults deal with high blood pressure—many of whom don't even know it—making this a condition to at least be aware of. That said, you can think you’re doing everything right in terms of a blood pressure-friendly diet and still be accidentally raising your blood pressure.

It’s difficult to say that any one food will raise your blood pressure, but healthcare providers say you’re not doing yourself any favors if you regularly start your day with this “healthy” breakfast staple.

The 'Healthy' Breakfast Staple That's Silently Raising Your Blood Pressure

It’s granola. “Many granolas, especially processed granolas such as granola bars, can be high in components that are less ‘healthy’ for the heart,” Dr. Chen says.

Granola usually packs a lot of calories into a small serving, points out Dr. Katherine N. Balantekin, PhD, RD, assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at University at Buffalo. “That makes it very easy to consume in excess,” she says.

Related: ‘I’m a Hepatologist—This Is the First Thing I’d Cut From My Diet To Protect My Liver’

Most granolas also have high levels of added sugar, points out Dr. Mary Mosquera Cochran, RD, a dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. “Many brands can have 10 grams or more of added sugar per 1/2 cup serving, which could add up to closer to 20 to 30 grams in a larger serving if you aren't paying attention,” she says.

Added sugar can impact blood pressure in a few different ways, Dr. Cochran says. Regularly eating higher levels of added sugar can lead to a condition called insulin resistance, where high levels of sugar circulate in the blood. “This prevents the kidneys from being able to excrete sodium through our urine leading to fluid retention, which can directly lead to higher blood pressure levels,” Dr. Cochran explains.

Too much sugar can also encourage inflammation in the body and impact the blood vessels, making it harder for them to expand and relax, Dr. Cochran says—that can raise blood pressure over time.

Depending on the portion size, granolas can also be high in fat and calories, Dr. Chen says. That raises the risk of weight gain and high blood pressure, he points out.

Related: Here’s How Eating Salmon Actually Impacts Your Heart, According to Cardiologists

How to Enjoy Granola When You Have High Blood Pressure

You don’t need to avoid granola entirely if you have high blood pressure or are trying to avoid the condition. Instead, experts recommend being mindful of what’s in your granola and how much of it you eat.

“Try using half the amount of granola you normally use, and replace it with fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds,” Dr. Cochran says. She also suggests using granola more as a topping for other heart-healthy foods like unsweetened yogurt or chia seed pudding vs the main component of your meal.

When you shop for granola, Dr. Cochran recommends looking for options with less than 200 milligrams of sodium per serving and less than 6 grams of added sugar per serving.

You may want to consider making your own granola at home, per Dr. Balantekin. “There are many benefits to making your own granola, such as being able to control the ingredients and reducing the sodium, sugar and fat content,” she says.

The Best Foods to Lower Blood Pressure

There is no single diet that will lower blood pressure, but healthcare providers generally recommend watching your sodium intake. The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests having no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day. (In a perfect world, the AHA says you’d limit yourself to no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium daily.)

Beyond that, the AHA recommends the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which limits red meat, sodium and added sugars, while promoting fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean poultry and fish, nuts and legumes, and low-fat dairy products.

If you’re concerned about your blood pressure, talk to your healthcare provider. They should be able to give you an evaluation and recommend next steps for managing your blood pressure in the future.

Emma Watson Made a Rare Appearance Alongside Prince William, and She Looks Better Than Ever

Mon, 06/22/2026 - 9:46am

Emma Watson isn't one for public appearances, but the Harry Potter actress just made a rare exception for an important appearance alongside Prince William.

Watson, 36, rose to stardom in the role of Hermione Granger in the beloved Harry Potter series. She continued her reign as an acclaimed actress in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, and Little Women, while also earning a college degree at Brown University in 2014. These days, Watson prefers to fly under the radar. She hasn't appeared in a film since 2019, but she keeps busy with academic and activism work. She put that to use in a new appearance, appearing alongside Prince William and actor Benedict Cumberbatch at a landmark business forum for The Royal Foundation's United for Wildlife on Monday in London, England.

Wearing a black scoop neck top and white tiered skirt, Watson looked better than ever during the appearance. She even took to the stage, speaking to the crowd. Check out the photos of Watson below:

What Did Emma Watson Say Onstage?

In a video caught by HELLO!, Watson shared that she was trying to avoid the paparazzi one day. However, she discovered the men hiding outside her building were actually scoping out "a very rare bird." Seeing as the event was targeting the importance of protecting wildlife, her hilarious story makes a lot of sense.

Who is Emma Watson Dating?

Back in March, Watson was seen kissing billionaire Mexican entrepreneur Gonzalo Hevia Baillères in an airport, PEOPLE reported, sharing photos of the smooch.

While appearing on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast in September, Watson spoke about her dating life and made it clear she prefers to date people who aren't extremely familiar with her professional work.

Watson shared that she wants a potential partner to "appreciate my work, but I think knowing you don't have to navigate that extra degree of, like, weirdness is helpful, a relief."

Watson also opened up about constantly fielding questions about why she isn't married yet. Check out her poignant interview below:
