Legendary Video Game Composer, Who Was Heavily Inspired by Metallica, Dead at 81
Bobby Prince was a video game composer who worked on iconic games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. Only a month ago, the Library of Congress announced the score Prince created for Doom would be preserved in the National Recording Registry.
“The video game Doom brought a heavy metal energy to MS-DOS systems across the globe, while at the same time pioneering the ever-popular first-person shooter genre. Key to Doom’s popularity was the adrenaline-fueled soundtrack created by freelance video game music composer Bobby Prince,” the Library of Congress stated.

His music was beloved by many. As reported by Level Up, “Prince’s compositional style, often fast-paced, aggressive, and electrifying, drew heavy inspiration from heavy metal. Through his friendship with John Romero, he was introduced to the music of Alice in Chains, Pantera, and Metallica, whose raw energy heavily informed the iconic soundscapes he created for Doom.”
According to a statement released by his family, Prince died peacefully on June 16, 2026. In their eulogy, they explained that the composer had a love of music that started when he was young.
“During his youth and early adulthood, he performed with many talented musicians and bands throughout the Athens music community,” they explained. “Music remained a constant thread throughout his life and was shared with family, lifelong friends, and fellow musicians. Bobby served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a platoon leader. Following his military service, he pursued careers in counseling and law before ultimately becoming one of the pioneering composers and sound designers in the video game industry.”

The family continued, “His innovative work helped define an era of gaming and influenced generations of players around the world. Through his compositions and sound design for landmark titles including Doom, Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, and Duke Nukem 3D, Bobby helped establish video game music as a respected art form. In 2005, the Video Game Industry honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Prince is survived by his wife, two sons, and a granddaughter as well as extended family. As they stated, “Bobby Prince's Legacy lives on through his music... His love lives on through our hearts.”
‘Queen of Quirky Pop’ Turns 73 Today
Some girls just love to have fun. That is certainly the case for Cyndi Lauper, who turns 73 today, June 22, 2026.
Born on June 22, 1953, Lauper became known as the “Queen of Quirky Pop” thanks to her iconic track, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” It’s a song that is sung by millions even today, becoming an anthem for many.
Lauper has sold 50 million copies of her songs worldwide, standing out thanks to her neon hair and powerful vocal range. Did you know that she has a four-octave range?
While many remember her for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” she stood out with the power ballad “Time After Time” and “True Colors.” The more you think of her songs, the more you realize just how much you know! It’s also easy to see how she’s become the inspiration for artists such as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. This is a woman not afraid to be herself, and she shines in positivity while doing it.
What few people will realize today is that Lauper isn’t just an amazing singer. She has been praised for her humanitarian efforts. In 2010, she was diagnosed with psoriasis, an autoimmune skin condition that causes painful, flaking rashes all over the skin. It’s something she has had to manage while performing live, and it’s something that many people struggle with.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 08: Inductee Cyndi Lauper performs onstage during the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Peacock Theater on November 08, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Amy Sussman/WireImage)To help raise awareness, Lauper has been vocal about her medical journey. She wants others to seek treatment as soon as possible, allowing them to manage the progression of the issue. For Lauper, it started as a minor scalp rash that was managed with the right shampoo, but after that, it spread to other parts of her body.
Also dubbed as “The Queen of Having Fun,” she hasn’t just raised awareness for psoriasis. In 2022, she launched the Girls Just Want to Have Fundamental Rights Fund, which is focused on abortion rights and reproductive healthcare. She has also long been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, with her third single from her first album, “She Bop,” becoming the first (and only) Top 10 song to have a direct mention of a gay porn magazine. It even ended up with a Parental Advisory sticker for the meaning behind the story in the song. “True Colors” is also a gay anthem, advocating for LGBTQ+ who have run away or are homeless.
Her first track will always be the one most people immediately think of when they consider the 73-year-old icon. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” didn’t just bring about something fun that everyone could dance to, but it brought a new role model for women around the world, focusing on playfulness and differences in self-expression. It became the first music video to win the Best Female Video prize at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, and it quickly proved she was one to watch.
His Most Famous Song Became a No. 1 Hit After Another Star's Death
Few songwriters have left a mark on country music quite like Kris Kristofferson.
Born on June 22, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas, the singer-songwriter, actor and poet would have celebrated his 90th birthday today.
Although Kristofferson built an extraordinary career spanning music, film and television, he remains best known for writing one of the most beloved songs in country music history: "Me and Bobby McGee."
The song has become a timeless classic since its release, but its journey to legendary status was anything but ordinary.
Kristofferson wrote "Me and Bobby McGee" in the late 1960s, and it was first recorded by country singer Roger Miller.
However, it was Janis Joplin's version, released after she died in 1971, that transformed the song into a cultural phenomenon and sent it to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Over the decades, "Me and Bobby McGee" has been recorded by countless artists across multiple genres, cementing its place as one of the most enduring songs of the 20th century. The track's themes of freedom, loss and longing continue to resonate with listeners more than 50 years after it first appeared.
While "Me and Bobby McGee" may be his most famous composition, Kristofferson's influence extends far beyond a single song.
He also penned classics including "For the Good Times," "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down"—songs that became major hits for artists like Ray Price, Sammi Smith and Johnny Cash.
His songwriting helped redefine country music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, bringing a more personal, literary style to the genre. Alongside fellow legends Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, Kristofferson later became a member of the iconic country supergroup The Highwaymen.
In addition to his music career, Kristofferson found success in Hollywood, appearing in films such as A Star Is Born, Blade and Pat Garrettand Billy the Kid. But despite his accomplishments on screen, he was always revered first and foremost as a songwriter.
Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, a fitting honor for an artist whose words shaped generations of country music.
Following his death in September 2024 at age 88, tributes poured in from across the music world, with fellow artists praising his storytelling, artistry and lasting impact.

One of the Most Beloved Disney Classics of All Time Was Released 71 Years Ago Today
It’s been 71 years since moviegoers were first charmed by Lady and the Tramp. The animated Walt Disney classic made its debut in theaters on June 22, 1955.
The film, the love story of a pedigreed cocker spaniel named Lady and a street-smart, homeless mutt, Tramp, featured the voices of Barbara Luddy, Larry Roberts, Peggy Lee, Bill Baucom, and more. Future Fred Flintstone actor Alan Reed even lent his voice to the film.
One of the most iconic scenes in the film features Lady and Tramp sharing a plate of spaghetti, leading to their first kiss as the romantic song "Bella Notte" plays for them.
Disney himself reportedly didn’t want to include the scene at first, writing off the premise as “silly,” according to CBR. Animator Frank Thomas was able to change Disney’s mind after he animated the sequence and personally presented it to the legendary entertainment mogul.
That famous scene and others landed Lady and the Tramp on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time.
Disney once explained that he got the idea for Lady and the Tramp after reading Ward Greene’s story Happy Dan, the Whistling Dog. In a vintage video posted by Yahoo Entertainment, Disney recalled dreaming up the pairing of a rogue pup with a classy Lady.
In another archival video, Disney described Lady and the Tramp as a “fun picture” to make. "It was an original story to start with, and as we made the picture and got to know the characters, we kept getting new ideas, and we had to fully wait to expand them because there wasn’t any set storyline," he shared.
According to a post by The Walt Disney Family Museum, Disney made a bold decision to present “Lady and the Tramp” in the widescreen format, Cinemascope, which meant the backgrounds were widened to fill the wider format. Two versions of the film had to be created for different theater formats, which meant a lot of extra work for the animators.
Lady and the Tramp remains a timeless masterpiece that continues to captivate audiences decades later. Rolling Stone ranked it among the best Disney films, adding, “The widescreen compositions are some of Disney’s very best.”
And Rotten Tomatoes still gives Lady and the Tramp an impressive 91 percent “fresh” rating on its Tomatometer, describing it as a “nostalgic charmer” and noting, “The songs and richly colored animation are technically superb and make for a memorable experience.”

‘Family Ties’ Dad Michael Gross Gave a Shoutout to His TV Wife Meredith Baxter on Their Mutual Birthday
Michael Gross, who played the beloved father Steven Keaton on Family Ties, is wishing his legendary costar Meredith Baxter a happy birthday, too. The duo turned 79 on the same day!
Gross and Baxter, both 79, rose to stardom on the hit NBCsitcom, which followed former hippies Steven and Elyse Keaton as they raised their family during the Reagan era. Of course, that included their aspiring capitalist son, Alex, played by Michael J. Fox in his breakthrough role, and their superficial daughter, Mallory, played by Justine Bateman. Younger daughter Jennifer, played by Tina Yothers, rounded out the bunch. The series became a favorite throughout the ’80s and highlighted the sharp contrast between the ideals of the baby boomer generation and those of their children.
Since Gross and Baxter share the same birthday and are still close, Gross wished Baxter a happy birthday in a sweet new Instagram post.
"79 years ago today, baby Michael was born in the Central Time Zone and baby Meredith in the Pacific Time Zone. Thirty-five years later, the two of them met and played husband and wife on @nbc's FamilyTies. @familytiescentral#fans already know this, but for those who don't, "Happy Birthday, Meredith Baxter!!!" Gross captioned the throwback shot.

1970 No. 1 Hit, Released by Iconic Supergroup, Ranked Among 'Greatest Albums of All Time'
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the legendary group behind the smash hit album Déjà Vu, continue to resonate with today’s generation after earning renewed recognition for their iconic record.
Composed of David Crosby of The Byrds, Stephen Stills of Buffalo Springfield, Graham Nash of The Hollies and Neil Young of Buffalo Springfield, the band saw its album named by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time.
With its list of 500 albums, spanning different genres, eras, bands and solo artists, the rankings unveiled the most influential, popular and timeless acts in music history, voted on by hundreds of music experts, critics, producers, industry professionals and more.
While Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and Joni Mitchell’s Blue secured the top three spots, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young made it to No. 220, all thanks to their 1970 studio album Déjà Vu.
Described as a “rock & roll powerhouse,” the record was the folk-rock supergroup’s first-ever album after recruiting Young to their star-studded lineup.

From trio to quartet, they released a number of hit songs, including the band’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s "Woodstock," which became their highest-charting single of 1970, followed by "Teach Your Children," a single written by Graham Nash, the pop-folk hit “Our House” and another standout song, “Ohio,” with all four tracks entering the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
With its number of fan-favorite tracks, their debut album as a quartet reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Nash credited the Buffalo Springfield frontman for his significant contribution to the album’s success.
“Neil’s a strange energy. He brings a darker edge and a more realistic edge to our music…It did fit, though. Déjà Vu is a pretty fun album,” he told Music Radar as reported by Classical Album Sundays.
The album sold over eight million copies worldwide, further cementing their status as one of the most influential groups of the 1970s.
As Nash continues to recall, Déjà Vu had a different feel compared to their previous album as a trio.
“During the first album, we were all in love,” he told the outlet, referencing their romantic relationship with respective partners back then. “David was in love with Christine [Hinton], Stephen was in love with Judy Collins, I was in love with Joni [Mitchell]. Everything was rosy and fantastic. By ‘Déjà Vu’, Joni and I had split up, Stephen and Judy had split up, and Christine had just been killed. It was all dark.”
The former member of The Hollies revealed that “Our House” was a bittersweet reflection of his time living with Mitchell in their home in Laurel Canyon.

‘Love Is Blind’ Star Finally Says 'I Do' in a Stunning Croatian Wedding
Two reality TV fan favorites just tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Croatia. Love Is Blind’sGiannina Gibelli and The Bachelorette’sBlake Horstmann finally made it official, marrying over the weekend.
Gibelli and Horstmann both looked for love in the spotlight. Giannina was an original cast member of Netflix’s Love Is Blind. The season 1 standout fell for Damian Powers, sight unseen, and agreed to marry him on the show. But sadly (or more like luckily), he said no at the altar, leaving Gibelli single. Even though they didn’t marry, the pair did stay together for over two years.
View this post on InstagramHorstmann, who starred in The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, also failed to find true love on reality TV. While he did finish as runner-up in season 14, Horstmann caused plenty of drama on Bachelor in Paradise, with Caelynn Miller-Keyes (whom he had dated prior to filming) saying on the show, “I thought he was a great guy and then we really had something. We talked about skipping Paradise and coming out with us, and then he ghosted me. Just like fully stopped communication.”
Gibelli and Horstmann met while filming Paramount+’s All Star Shore, started dating in 2021, and confirmed their relationship the following year. Giannina gave birth to the couple’s first child, son Heath Orion Horstmann, in March of 2024, making an Instagram announcement that read, “Our lives are brighter, fuller, and forever better. Thank you for all of the love and well wishes. Heath has so many people who love him. We’re parents!” The couple got engaged later that year.
The brand-new bride documented the fanfare leading up to their nuptials on Instagram. In February, she previewed her rehearsal and after-party looks, taking fans along with her as she shopped for dresses. In March, she shared a sneak peek at her wedding invitations. And in April, she shared pics of her birthday bachelorette trip to Amsterdam.
View this post on InstagramMore recently, Giabelli posted (on June 1) the couple’s trip to pick up their marriage license. And then there’s the wedding vacation. The family of three kicked things off in Capri, getting in plenty of fun in the sun. Per Giabelli’s posts, they then went to Pompeii and Sorrento before heading to Venice and eventually taking a ferry to Rovinj, Croatia, for the wedding.
View this post on InstagramA reception with a four-course plated dinner at the Hutterott Castle followed the romantic ceremony. Their nearly 100-person guest list reportedly included fellow reality TV stars Jessica Vestal, Colleen Reed, Alexia Lemiex, Raven Ross, Taylor Krause, Anna Redman, Chris Bukowski, Astrid Wendt, Jason Tartick, and Kevin Wendt.

This Tiny Florida Town Just Tied Las Vegas as One of the Most Photographed Places in the U.S.
If you were asked to guess the most photographed spots in America, your mind would probably wander straight to the soaring skyscrapers of New York City, the neon-drenched corridors of the Las Vegas Strip, or the palm-fringed boardwalks of Los Angeles. It turns out you’d be exactly right on the heavy hitters. According to a massive new data-science index from the photo-product platform Popsa, which analyzed millions of traveler photos, New York City officially holds the number-one spot with a perfect index score of 100. But if you look just a fraction further down the list, the fourth most photographed "city" in the United States is a total curveball that beats out nearly every major coastal metropolis on the map: Bay Lake, Florida.
For anyone who isn’t a local government buff, Bay Lake is the tiny, Disney-controlled municipality that technically contains the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Because millions of families treat a walk down Main Street, U.S.A. as a once-in-a-lifetime bucket-list pilgrimage, the sheer volume of images captured in front of Cinderella Castle managed to land Popsa an index score of 90, tying Las Vegas. The data proves that our modern travel habits are entirely driven by the pursuit of frame-worthy memories, whether we are capturing world-class streetscapes or waiting for the perfect fireworks blast over Tomorrowland.

In New York City, the classic sunrise walk across the Brooklyn Bridge or a stroll through DUMBO’s cobblestone alleys deliver those timeless, iron-framed compositions that look straight out of a movie. On the opposite coast, Los Angeles (No. 2) commands a score of 91 by pairing the sun-bleached ridges of Runyon Canyon with the neon glow of the historic Angels Flight Railway. Las Vegas (No. 3) rounds out the podium by proving it is far more than just casino floors, drawing massive crowds out to the vivid rust-and-amber sandstone valleys of Red Rock Canyon just twenty minutes off the Strip.
Beyond the theme park gates of Bay Lake, the rest of the top rankings reveal a beautiful mix of architectural marvels and coastal escapes. Chicago sits at number five, where the distorted skyline reflection in Millennium Park's Cloud Gate sculpture and architecture cruises along the river canyon keep shutters clicking constantly. San Francisco follows closely at number six, relying on the classic, fog-wrapped morning views of the Golden Gate Bridge from Battery Spencer and the colorful Victorian charm of the Painted Ladies.
Down in Miami (No. 7), the lens shifts toward the bold, free-spirited energy of the Wynwood Walls murals and the pastel, historic lifeguard towers dotting South Beach. San Diego (No. 8) channels a completely different waterfront vibe, capturing wild sea lions sunning themselves on the sandstone cliffs of La Jolla Cove and the fairy-lit piazzas of Little Italy.
The list rounds out with Washington, DC (No. 9), where the stillness of the morning Reflecting Pool mirrors the monument in perfect symmetry, and Houston (No. 10), a sprawling Texas powerhouse where travelers alternate between the golden hour skyline at Buffalo Bayou Park and the historic, awe-inspiring Saturn V rocket at the Johnson Space Center. Ultimately, the index reveals that the best travel spots don't just give us a place to unpack our bags—they give us a striking, unforgettable backdrop that we can't resist taking home with us.

Chick-fil-A Rival Unveils New Chicken Bacon Ranch Menu
Chicken Bacon Ranch fans have another reason to hit the drive-thru this summer.
Fast-food chain Zaxbys is leaning into one of its most popular flavor combinations with the launch of an all-new Chicken Bacon Ranch menu, featuring three indulgent items built around the classic pairing of chicken, bacon and ranch dressing. The new lineup is available in all restaurants, online and via third-party delivery beginning today, June 22.
The menu showcases what the company calls its fan-favorite made-from-scratch ranch dressing, combined with hand-breaded chicken and hardwood-smoked bacon.
According to the chain, the limited-time offering includes three different ways for customers to enjoy the flavor combination that has become a staple across the fast-food industry.
The move comes as chicken chains continue to battle for customers' attention with bold flavor combinations and limited-time menu innovations. Chicken Bacon Ranch has become one of the most popular fast-food flavor profiles in recent years, inspiring menu items at numerous major restaurant brands.
For Zaxbys, the launch is part of a busy year of menu experimentation.
In recent months, the chain has introduced giant chicken wraps, new dry-rub flavors and seasonal milkshakes as it looks to stand out in the increasingly crowded chicken category. Earlier this spring, the company rolled out Giant Chicken Finger Wraps, including a Chicken Bacon Ranch version, after customer demand for more portable meal options.
The latest launch also puts Zaxbys in more direct competition with fellow chicken chains, including Chick-fil-A, as brands continue searching for the next viral menu item.
Customers interested in trying the new Chicken Bacon Ranch lineup won't have to wait long.
The limited-time menu is scheduled to arrive at participating Zaxby's restaurants beginning June 29, giving fans another chance to indulge in one of fast food's most enduring flavor combinations.

Before He Ran the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan Did Something Nobody Remembers
On Monday, the family of Alan Greenspan announced his death, citing complications from Parkinson's Disease as the cause. The 100-year-old was most famously the chair of the Federal Reserve, working under four different presidents for five terms during his tenure, according to NBC News.
Often credited with steering the country through one of our longest periods of economic expansion from 1991 to 2001, and just as often blamed for creating the conditions that led to the Subprime Mortgage crisis that began in 2007, Greenspan has had a storied career. Here are just some of the things that Greenspan accomplished during that time.
He Built His Career From the Ground UpAccording to the Federal Reserve History website, Greenspan began his financial career in 1948, when he joined the National Industrial Conference Board. This was after he graduated from New York University, but before he received his doctorate from Columbia University.
Here, he helped analyze demand for metals such as steel, copper, and aluminum.
He Became One of Wall Street's Most Trusted VoicesIn 1954, Greenspan became the chairman and president of Townsend-Greenspan & Co., a position he held until 1974, and then again from 1977 to 1987. The economic consulting firm was highly profitable, according to Timemagazine, and at one point, it was the place some of the country's largest corporations turned to for conservative financial advice.
"He is the kind of person who knows how many thousands of flat-headed bolts were used in a Chevrolet and what it would do to the national economy if you took out three of them," former Texas Congressman and friend Frank Ikard once said of his vast financial capabilities.
He Was an Early Fan of AppleIn 1985, Greenspan appeared in multiple commercials as a pitchman for Apple's IIc computer, which many might not realize. "People in high places are always asking me: ‘Alan, where does the money go,'" he said before hawking the computer (and its modem). Back then, the computer cost $1,300.
Some of the features of this early model included checking your bank balance and paying your bills online, according to Wired. "You can even pay your bills off automatically," Greenspan, who had previously served as chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, said in the commercial. "If you have any money left over, congratulations. You’re doing better than the government is."
Greenspan Joked About the Government Before Taking a Job With ItThe timing of the Apple spot was amusing in hindsight, since just two years later, Greenspan was appointed to the Federal Reserve, holding the position through two recessions, including the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and the September 11th attacks, according to the Federal Reserve History website.
Greenspan earned a reputation as anti-inflation during this time and worked to control prices rather than promote employment, a stance that critics complained about. However, while some may not have been fans, he did earn the praise of four presidents, first being appointed by Ronald Regan and then reappointed by three successive presidents.

He Also Became a Best-Selling AuthorYou can add "accomplished author" to Greenspan's list of achievements. He wrote several books during his lifetime, including:
- The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World
- The Map and the Territory
- Capitalism in America
The Age of Turbulence was particularly well received, and the book went on to become a New York Times Best Seller, according to Amazon.
Greenspan clearly leaves behind an impressive legacy, but it's likely to pale in comparison to the one he left at home.
His wife, NBC News' Andrea Mitchell, announced his death in a statement early Monday, writing in part, "To me, he was my husband, who shaped my life from our very first date in 1984. He had ‘irrational exuberance’ for baseball, the Washington Commanders, tennis, golf, and music, especially jazz," she continued. "He will be remembered for his brilliance and his kindness. Being his life partner was the joy of my life."
