While both Charli XCX and Cara Delevingne picked sheer black looks for their Met Gala appearances, the inspirations were quite different. Charli XCX told Vogue her gown was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's tribute to Van Gogh. “My dress tonight has an iris flower made out of resin, stitched onto its center," Charli says of the look, designed by YSL creative director Anthony Vaccarello. "We’ve tried to kind of mirror that in the makeup by using more sheer and translucent tones to reflect the resin.”
For her part, the model rocked a halter neck gown by Ralph Lauren that was daringly sheer all down her back, save for a bead embroidered bird. So, which dark look is your favorite?

1990 Horror Film Ranked as Having the 'Best Jump Scare of All Time'
While it's not always the case, a mark of a good horror movie is an expertly timed, non-gratuitous jump scare. In October 2025, Paste magazine shared a list of the 50 films with the "best jump scares of all time."
The ranking featured 2017's It Chapter One, Hereditary from 2018, 1960's Psycho, Poltergeist from 1982, 1992's Candyman, Carrie, released in 1976, It Follows from 2014, 1982's The Thing, and 1999's The Sixth Sense. The top five films included 2010's Insidious, The Ring from 2002, Mulholland Drive, released in 2001, and 1995's Seven.
The Exorcist III, released in 1990, was named the movie with the greatest jump scare. The infamously scary scene in question features a concealed individual holding large shears, quickly following a nurse.
William Peter Blatty, who wrote The Exorcist book and the 1973 film, returned to direct and write The Exorcist III, based on his horror mystery novel, Legion, released in 1983. In a 1990 interview, Blatty let fans know that The Exorcist III is more subtle in its scares than The Exorcist, known for its shocking scenes.
"There are no spinning heads. There's not a lot of blood and gore and projectile vomiting in this film. This is a supernatural murder mystery," said the author, who died in 2017 at the age of 89.
Blatty made similar comments about the scares in The Exorcist III during a behind-the-scenes interview, released on the film's Special Edition Blu-ray.
"This is what I find terrifying, with creeks and shadows," said Blatty in the interview.
In a different behind-the-scenes interview on the set of The Exorcist III, also on the film's Special Edition Blu-ray, Viveca Lindfors, who played Nurse X, said there are quite a few terrifying and unexpected moments in the movie.
"It's the most imaginative script I've read. There's a surprise on absolutely every page. I can see the audience going, 'Ah! Oh!'" said the actress who was 74 when she died in 1995.
Heidi Klum Is Unrecognizable in Eerie On-Theme Met Gala Look
For one of the biggest fashion nights of the year, celebrities from all over and from all different industries gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday in May in glamorous and unexpected outfits for the Met Gala. For the 2026 edition that has the theme of "Costume Art," the unofficial queen of Halloween pulled out all the stops for her unbelievably on-theme outfit.
Supermodel Heidi Klum arrived at the gala in the perfect look for this year's event, proving that she really understood the definition of the word "costume." Klum is known for her intense Halloween costumes every year, with many people looking forward to whatever she comes up with. She brought that dedication to the 2026 Met Gala, looking completely unrecognizable as she arrived as a marble statue of a shrouded woman.

(Photo by Gilbert Flores/Variety via Getty Images)Her outfit transformed her into a real-life statue, and after photos of the outfit were posted online, fans immediately shared their reactions.
While the internet can be quite brutal when critiquing celebrities' Met Gala looks, many people loved Klum's ensemble, noting how well it fit the theme. One fan commented on X in response to Variety's post, "ART. Nailed the assignment IMO. ✔️."
"Unbelievable cool. Stunning, best one so far," read another response from an impressed fan, while someone else highlighted her eerie expression as the only part of the outfit they would change. They said, "It's almost a 10 for me, but I wish she leaned more into elegance and beauty than horror for the expression."
Others said that she "nailed the theme," and called it "outstanding," as someone else reacted, "This is amazing! Stuff like this is what I want."
It's no surprise that Klum is the one to really embrace the costume theme of the 2026 Met Gala, and fans are hoping they see more looks like hers as the night goes on.

Before ‘Star Wars,’ This Acclaimed Actor Worked for a Legendary Rock Band
The Doors celebrated May the Fourth, also known as “Star Wars Day,” by revealing a little-known fact about a famed actor who worked with the band during their 1968 tour.
A post on the Doors official Instagram account shared photos of the band along with a pic of Harrison Ford from Star Wars. Along with the Star Wars and Doors logo, it dropped the big reveal. “Before Harrison Ford took on the iconic role of Han Solo, he was a roadie on the Doors ’68 tour. He was a production assistant and camera operator.”
View this post on InstagramAlthough that may sound like a story from a galaxy far, far away, it’s not fiction. A video interview with Ford talking about the experience is on YouTube.
“I worked on a road tour film of the Doors. Went around for about a week with them on a concert tour,” Ford confirmed in a vintage interview. “When it was over, I was one step away from joining a Jesuit monastery.”
“I thought it was cool,” he added with a laugh. “I thought it was hip.” But apparently, even at his own relatively young age, Ford wasn’t ready for the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. “I couldn't keep up with those guys. It was too much.”
Those guys were notoriously hard-partying singer-poet Jim Morrison, guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and keyboardist Ray Manzarek.

(Photo by Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images)In the brief interview, Ford then went on to detail his job on tour. “I was part of the camera crew. Second camera,” the actor added, before criticizing his own film-making skills. “I don’t think any of it was in focus,” he added with a laugh. “Not a bit of it.”
https://youtube.com/shorts/PGqmU5m63gQ?si=OjmuXOKHeOMu-48L
The footage Ford shot, which included the Doors performing at the Northern California Folk Rock Festival in Bakersfield and at the Hollywood Bowl, was for the documentary titled Feast of Friends, which came out in 1969.
After his brief stint behind the camera with the Doors, Ford continued his association with the group by building some cabinets for Doors producer Paul Rothchild and for a boutique called Themis owned by Jim Morrison’s girlfriend at the time, Pamela Courson.
A few years later, on July 3, 1971, Morrison was found dead by Courson in the bathtub of their apartment in Paris. He was only 27 years old.
In 1973, Ford got his big break by landing the role of Bob Falfa in American Graffiti, directed by George Lucas. The director later hired him to read lines for actors auditioning for his upcoming film, Star Wars, and ultimately cast him in his breakout role as Han Solo.

Rebel Wilson Welcomes Second Baby, ‘It’s Now the Four of Us’
She’s finally here! Rebel Wilson just announced the birth of her second daughter. And the Pitch Perfect star is over the moon.
Wilson recently took to Instagram, issuing a joint statement with wife, Ramona Agruma. The happy parents shared an absolutely adorable photo of the newborn and revealed her name in the heartwarming post.
What Did Rebel Wilson Name Her Baby?Wilson and her fashion designer wife captioned their Instagram pic, “Proud to announce the birth of our 2nd daughter Rose Estelle! What a gorgeous blessing to have another little girl! Now on May 4th it’s now 4 of us! Ramona and I are feeling so incredibly grateful and blessed to grow our family, thank you, everyone for all the well wishes.”
View this post on InstagramAnd yes, just like the Kardashian-Jenner clan goes big on the ‘K’ names, the Wilson-Agrumas are all about the ‘R’. The couple’s youngest daughter adds one more ‘R’ name to their family four, making it Rebel, Ramona, Royce Lillian (born in 2022), and Rose Estelle.
Friends, fans, and some famous faces hopped onto Instagram, sending Wilson and Agruma well-wishes. Rebel’s Pitch Perfect co-star Brittany Snow commented, “Wow! The most beautiful,” and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reality TV starKyle Richardswrote, “Oh my goodness. She is so beautiful and perfect. Congratulations.”
Of course, the comments didn’t stop there. Richards’ niece, none other than the iconicParis Hilton, chimed in, “Congratulations loves,” and another Pitch Perfectco-star, Alexis Knapp, added, “Congratulations on 2nd perfect angel daughter!”
Wilson teased the birth of the pair’s second daughter back in March, posting a playful pic of herself with daughter Royce and the caption, “Baby Number 1 then swipe to see Baby Number 2! So excited! Mum power!” But, when fans swiped to the next image in the cute carousel, they didn’t exactly see “Baby Number 2.” Instead, the photo was of a very pregnant Agruma. So yes, technically, it was a picture of Rose Estelle.
How Did Rebel Wilson Announce the Pregnancy? The new mommies of two announced Ramona’s pregnancy back in December. Wilson shared a montage of clips on Instagram, starting with a photo titled, “From this…” The video goes on to include sweet snapshots of a newborn Royce and the trio walking together, hand in hand.

Congrats poured in, with commenters writing, “I’m screaming! This is so exciting!” and, “So happy for you both!”
Venus Williams’ Met Gala Dress Is a Sweet Homage to Her Family and Her Legacy
Tennis superstar Venus Williams served on the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala in a sparkly dress that referenced her legacy in the sport. The decorated athlete co-chaired the prestigious event alongside Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Anna Wintour, but didn't forget tennis in her red carpet look.
The Olympian wore a Swarovski crystal mesh gown inspired by Robert Pruitt’s 2022 portrait Venus Williams, Double Portrait, which was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. The necklace she wore at the annual event is a recreation of the Wimbledon-plate-inspired necklace seen in the painting, and it incorporates symbols connected to her family, her career, and her fight for equal pay in tennis.

(Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG26/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)“It reflects not just my journey, but the legacy of those who came before me—especially pioneers like Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe, who paved the way. It felt like a personal way to connect with ‘Costume Art’—using fashion to tell a story about legacy and progress, and honoring those who made it possible,” she told Vogue.
The theme for the Met Gala 2026 is “Costume Art,” with the dress code described as “fashion is art.” This year's theme is named after the museum's new exhibition, which will see 400 outfits and objects spanning 5,000 years go on display.
The event was the first time she had appeared at the Met Gala with her husband, actor, producer, and model Andrea Preti, whom she wed last year. The tennis star made her debut 20 years ago and referred to co-chairing in 2026 as an "incredible honor" that she was "still trying to fully take in."
“When I got the call, I could hardly believe it. Fashion has always been a huge part of how I express myself, both on and off the court, so being part of an event that celebrates the intersection of art, culture, and identity feels really full circle for me," Venus told Vogue the morning of fashion's biggest night.
Nicole Kidman's Daughter Causes a Stir After Breaking Met Gala Rule
Nicole Kidman and her 17-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban, made history on Monday.
The mother-daughter duo attended their first Met Gala together in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening. This year, Kidman serves as a co-chair for this year's gala, alongside Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. She stepped onto the Met steps wearing a custom Chanel red floor-length long-sleeve sequin dress with a ruffled waist designed by Matheiu Blazy. Styled by Jason Bolden, the red look was an ode to both love and the Big Apple, according to Vogue.
Meanwhile, Kidman-Urban made her Met Gala debut alongside her mother, wearing a floral Dior dress.
Sunday Rose Kidman Urban and Nicole Kidman attend the 2026 Met Gala celebrating "Costume Art" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 04, 2026 in New York City.Though making history and stunning while they do so, Kidman-Urban has already broken a major role.
The Met Gala has a strict minimum age of 18 years old for all attendees, which was established in 2018 because organizers deemed the event inappropriate for minors. Prior to this, many teenage celebrities attended the event, including Elle Fanning when she was 13-years old and Hailee Steinfeld when she was 14 in 2011, as well as Will Smith's kids: Willow and Jaden.
Since Kidman serves as a co-chair this year, and her daughter will be turning 18 in July, she may have been able to bypass this rule with the gala's organizers. Many fans on the Internet had a lot to say about it.
"I thought kids ain't allow at the met till 18," an X user commented.
"Nicole Kidman came with her daughter Sunday Rose who is 17 years old. She’s younger than the 18 year old age limit. Is Anna making exceptions? Could we see Blue Ivy on the carpet? #BeyGala," another wrote. Blue Ivy Carter is the oldest daughter of the "Single Ladies" singer and Jay-Z, who turned 14 years old in January.
One fan quote-tweeted, "BLUE IVY DEBUT INCOMING."
"wait… how can sunday rose attend?" another pointed out. "all attendees have to be 18. is it because she has a chaperone?"
"Nicole Kidman never disappoints, and Sunday Rose is growing into such a style icon already," someone said.
Another user quote-tweeted, "What a huge stroke of luck it would be to die and be reborn as the nepo baby of one of the best actresses in Hollywood. #metgala."

Born and raised in Nashville, largely out of the public eye, the 17-year-old is starting off her career as a model, making her runway debut for Miu Miu at Paris Fashion Week in October 2024 and Dior a year later. She told Elle Australia in her cover issue back in March that she wants to work in film, inspired by her love for the 2019 movie Parasite, and how her mom took her to photoshoots when she was young.
"I definitely gained a lot of interest from those experiences and especially being privileged enough to experience them at a young age,” she told the publication. “My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life. She’s a key part of everything I do."

4 Years Later, Iconic 'California Gurls' Singer Returned to the Met Gala in a Striking Mirrored Mask
She's back.
After four years off the steps, Katy Perry returned to the Met Gala on Monday night for the first time since 2022, walking the "Fashion Is Art" carpet in a custom Stella McCartney look that doubled as a full art piece.
The 41-year-old "California Gurls" singer wore a clean white gown with matching opera gloves. The showstopper was the accessory: a silver mirrored face mask trimmed with white mesh, fully covering her face and shaped like a futuristic fencer's helmet.
A Return 4 Years in the MakingPerry last walked the Met Gala carpet in 2022, wearing a black-and-white Oscar de la Renta gown for the "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" theme. She skipped the next three years, including 2025, when a fake AI-generated photo of her at the Met Gala went viral and she had to clarify on Instagram that she wasn't actually there.
Her absence in 2023 sparked similar questions, with the singer responding through Instagram posts at the time.
About the Stella McCartney LookThe 2026 Met Gala dress code, "Fashion Is Art," asked guests to treat the body as canvas and reference art history through dressing. Perry's mirrored mask, which fully hides her face, turns her into a moving sculpture instead of a celebrity in a gown.
It's a sharp turn from her past Met Gala swings, like the giant Moschino chandelier she wore in 2019 (and the hamburger costume she famously switched into for the after-party), or the towering Versace angel wings she walked in for 2018's "Heavenly Bodies" theme. Perry has long treated the Met Gala as performance art. Monday's silver mask is the first time she's picked total anonymity over spectacle.
Alysa Liu Makes Stunning Met Gala Debut With Sophisticated Hair Transformation
Alysa Liu can add another major moment to her list of achievements.
Fresh off her Olympic gold, the 20-year-old figure skating champion made her Met Gala debut at the 2026 event on Monday, April 4, stepping onto the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a stunning look from Louis Vuitton.
The deep red ruffled gown was paired with matching heels and elevated by one standout change from Liu’s usual look: a sleek, elegant hair transformation. Her hair, which still featured her signature blonde and brown stripes, was styled in glamorous waves with two pieces sectioned-off in the front—making her hair appear much shorter at first glance.
Just hours earlier, Liu announced her new role as Louis Vuitton’s newest House Ambassador on Instagram. For the announcement, Liu wore an all denim outfit, smiling for the camera while also posing with her skates.

“Stepping into this new chapter as a Louis Vuitton Ambassador is an honor and a privilege, especially for a figure skater to be recognized in this way, and I take so much pride in that,” Liu wrote in the post, which was also shared by the company.
Her connection with the brand has been building, too. Liu was spotted attending the label’s Fall 2026 show during Paris Fashion Week, hinting at what was to come.
And this isn't the first time Liu has been experimenting with her style. Known for her alt-grunge aesthetic, she recently surprised fans by leaning into a retro ’60s-inspired look. In a social media post last month, she danced alongside singer Laufey, teasing their new music video while wearing a bold orange-and-yellow mini dress, tall boots, and a matching headband.

Fans loved the look, too. “The 60s look is so good on alysa WOW,” one noted, while another shared, “I looove retro styles ahhh.”
The clip was tied to Laufey’s music video for “Madwoman,” which officially premiered shortly after. Liu makes a cameo in the video, marking a full-circle moment after previously skating to the singer’s music during her competitive career—including using Laufey’s song “Promise” in her Olympic-winning performance.
Met Gala Protestors Hide Hundreds of Bottles Filled With Shocking Substance Inside the Museum
The 2026 Met Gala is underway, with celebrities and high-profile guests ascending the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, all in the name of fashion, philanthropy, and spectacle. But as the world’s most glamorous pose for paps outside, something far less polished has been unfolding behind closed doors.
According to reports, activists who are protesting the gala’s association with Jeff Bezos have allegedly hidden more than 300 small bottles of "fake urine" throughout the Met in the days leading up to Met Monday.
View this post on InstagramThe protestors’ behind the stunt shared footage on social media showing individuals placing small “pee bottles” around the space, claiming they actually contained just water and food coloring. As for the meaning behind the bottles, the group said they are a reference to past allegations against Amazon alleging workers were forced to go to the bathroom in bottles to meet productivity demands — allegations the company has denied.
In posts online, the group tied the protest directly to Bezos’ association with the Met. The billionaire entrepreneur is the lead sponsor for tonight’s gala, a decision The New York Times says has sparked a ton of backlash over the past several months.
"Jeff Bezos's company Amazon is literally being sued for forcing workers to urinate in bottles. Amazon avoids MILLIONS in tax and Bezos is one of the world's richest men," the group wrote in a May 2 Instagram post. "The Met Museum is taking the P-SS by having Jeff honoured as their Gala host."
According to USA Today, security has resolved the incident. As for the gala itself, the 2026 theme, Costume Art, and dress code, Fashion Is Art, invites attendees to treat fashion as a form of artistic expression, turning the mossy green carpet into a living gallery. But this year, it seems the conversation extends far beyond fashion.

Princess Diana Broke Royal Protocol With ‘Sensuous’ Met Gala Look 30 Years Ago: ‘So Liberated’
Princess Diana only attended the Met Gala once, but she certainly made her mark on fashion’s biggest night.
The late Princess of Wales went to the iconic event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Dec. 9, 1996. Not only was Diana’s presence at the fundraiser a surprise, but her John Galliano for Dior navy slip dress shocked many, given its deviation from the strict dress code typically followed by members of the royal family.
With its lace-trimmed neckline and coordinating robe-style topper, Gallino’s design resembled lingerie in a major departure from Diana’s established style. She finished her look off with diamond and sapphire earrings, bracelets and a necklace similar to her engagement ring from Prince Charles as well as the Dior Lady Di bag, which was renamed as a tribute to her.
Diana attended the Met Gala less than four months after she finalized her divorce from Charles, now 77. The pair—who shared sons Prince William, now 43, and Prince Harry, now 41—tied the knot in July 1981 and confirmed their separation in December 1992, though their marriage wasn’t legally over until August 1996. Diana’s bold Met Gala look signaled a shift in her approach to public life after her divorce from Charles as she strayed from royal protocol and embraced her independence.
Nearly three decades after Diana wore his design at the Met Gala, Galliano, now 65, reflected on the process of creating the risqué ensemble for the royal.
“It was like a blessing. I mean, like, wow,” Galliano recalled in the 2024 Hulu docuseries In Vogue: The 90s. “We went to Kensington Palace and discussed drawings. I was trying to push for pink, but she was not having it. ‘No, not the pink!’ That was real, real fun.”
Patrick McMullan via Getty Images
While Galliano noted that the dress was “beautifully done” after multiple fittings, he revealed that Diana made a last-minute change before she arrived at the fundraiser.
“Fast-forward to the event, and I just remember her getting out of the car,” he recounted with a gasp. “I couldn’t believe it. She’d ripped the corset out.”
“She didn’t want to wear the corset,” he continued. “She felt so liberated. She’d torn the corset out. The dress was much more … sensuous.”
Meanwhile, Anna Wintour—who took over as Met Gala chair the year before Diana’s debut—recalled her own memories of the princess’ night out in New York.
“I think all of us were so captivated and fascinated by Princess Diana,” Wintour, now 76, said in the docuseries. “At that time, she was the most famous woman in the world. She was enjoying fashion and the spotlight that she put on particularly British designers.”
Diana was the first member of the British royal family to attend the Met Gala. Since then, Princess Beatrice is the only one to follow in her footsteps, walking the red carpet in a purple Alberta Ferretti gown in 2018. Still, royal watchers might see others in the future as Wintour previously told the Today show in 2019 that Princess Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are her “dream” Met Gala guests.
As for Diana, less than one year after her Met Gala debut, she died in August 1997 following a car accident in Paris. She was 36.

The Genius Way to Make Guacamole 10x Better, According to an Award-Winning Chef
There's a big difference between guacamole that disappears in minutes and guacamole that just sits there, barely touched.
Most people assume it comes down to the avocados—get them perfectly ripe, and you're good to go. And sure, that helps. But great guacamole isn't just about the base. It's about how all the flavors come together and whether anything stands out when you take a bite.
😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔
That's where a lot of homemade guac falls short. It can taste fine, even fresh, but still feel a little flat. Not bad—just missing that extra something that makes you keep going back for more.
According to award-winning chef, television host and cookbook author Pati Jinich, whose upcoming cookbook Foods of La Frontera is out this fall, it's surprisingly simple. In fact, it's a small detail most people skip entirely. "Most people squeeze a lime and call it a day," she says. But there's another part of the lime that brings even more flavor to the table—and once you try it, it's hard to go back.
That one simple addition, along with a couple of smart technique adjustments, can completely change how your guacamole tastes. Instead of everything blending together, each ingredient pops in a way that makes the whole bowl feel more balanced, more layered and a lot more interesting.
If your guacamole has ever felt like it's missing something, this is where to start.
What Are the Ingredients for Guacamole?Courtesy Penny De Los Santos
Guacamole doesn't need a long ingredient list to work. In fact, the best versions usually keep things simple and let each component do its job.
According to Jinich, the essentials are "short and sacred": ripe avocados, finely chopped white onion, fresh serrano or jalapeño chile (seeds included), chopped cilantro (including leaves and upper stems for extra flavor), fresh lime juice and kosher or sea salt.
That base is what gives guacamole its balance—creamy, sharp, bright and just a little spicy. Skip one, and the whole thing can start to feel off.
From there, you've got some room to play. Jinich notes that different chiles can change the flavor in subtle ways, so mixing varieties, like a fresh jalapeño with a dried chile de árbol or serrano and chipotle in adobo, can add more depth.
Tomatoes are another one that people debate. "For years, I was a purist about leaving tomato out of guacamole," Jinich says. But it can work if you handle it right. Remove the seeds to avoid extra moisture, and add it at the end so it stays fresh rather than breaking down into the avocado.
Beyond that, extras are more about preference than necessity. Ingredients like cotija cheese, mango or pineapple in the summer or even a spoonful of salsa macha can change the flavor in different directions, but they're not required to make a great bowl.
Start with the basics, get the balance right and build from there.

If your guacamole ever feels like it's missing something, there's a good chance it comes down to one ingredient many people skip.
According to Jinich, it's not just about lime juice—it's about the zest. "The zest is where a lot of the lime's aromatic oils live, and those oils carry a floral, perfumed brightness that juice alone can't give you," she says.
A light sprinkle over the finished guacamole can change the whole bowl. The citrus feels more pronounced, the chile comes through a little sharper, and the avocado's richness feels more balanced than heavy.
Jinich also builds flavor in another way: by cooking some of the aromatics before adding them to the mix. "A serrano or jalapeño blackened on a dry skillet or comal (or under the broiler), along with a slice of white onion and a clove of garlic in its peel, picks up this beautiful smoky-sweet depth that is pure Mexican street-market magic," says Jinich.
It's not complicated, but it makes a noticeable difference. Instead of everything blending together, you end up with a guacamole that tastes more layered, with both brightness and depth in each bite.
How to Make the Best-Ever GuacamoleCourtesy Penny De Los Santos
The way you build guacamole matters just as much as what goes into it.
Instead of starting with the avocado, Jinich begins with the aromatics. Add the chopped chile, onion, cilantro, lime juice and salt to a bowl or molcajete, then mash everything together until it becomes fragrant and slightly juicy. As she explains, "salt and mashing draw out the juices of the onion and chile," creating a base that seasons every bite.
From there, prep the avocados. Cut them in half, remove the pits and score the flesh in a crosshatch pattern while it's still in the skin. Scoop the chunks directly into the bowl so they hold some shape instead of turning into a smooth mash right away.
Gently mash everything together using a fork, spoon or pestle. You want to have a slightly chunky texture, not a purée. Taste and adjust with more salt or lime juice as needed.
Once everything is combined, you can keep it simple or add a few extras depending on what you like. Just don't overwork it—the texture and freshness are what make guacamole so good in the first place.
Serve right away for the best flavor.

How to Properly Store Guacamole LeftoversCourtesy Penny De Los Santos
Guacamole is best made fresh, but if you end up with leftovers, how you store it makes a big difference.
Because avocados oxidize quickly, that bright green color can start to turn within hours. According to Jinich, the idea is to limit air exposure as much as possible.
"The most reliable method is to press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guac so there's no air contact, really smooth it down, and refrigerate," she says. "The lime juice in the recipe also helps slow the browning."
When you're ready to eat it, remove the plastic wrap and give it a gentle stir. You may notice a slight color change on the surface, but the rest should still taste fresh.
Jinich points out that there are plenty of tricks people swear by for keeping guacamole fresh. "I've heard every trick in the book, leaving the pit in, a layer of water on top, onion halves in the container, but the plastic-wrap-on-the-surface method has been the most reliable in my kitchen for years," she says.
If you can, plan to make guacamole just before serving. That's when the flavor and texture are at their peak.

And if you're thinking beyond dinner, this chilaquiles breakfast casserole is a great way to switch things up, with bold flavors that pair well with avocado.

'80s Rock Icon, 76, Releases 'Nostalgic' New Single Fans Are Calling 'the Right Song at the Right Time'
If there's one thing Peter Gabriel fans can count on in this unpredictable world, it's a new song from the legendary musician every month (at least for the rest of this year).
Since the beginning of 2026, the Grammy winner has been releasing singles from his upcoming album o/i in the same manner as his 2023 album, i/o, dropping a new song on each full moon of the year. January brought the first single, “Been Undone,” followed by “Put the Bucket Down" in February, "What Lies Ahead” in March and “Till Your Mind Is Shining" in April.
Last week, on May 1, Gabriel released the fifth full moon single from o\i: "Won't Stand Down."
In a statement on his website, Gabriel called "Won't Stand Down" a "song to encourage some sort of activism."
“I had originally thought about trying to create some music for The Elders.org, who are an extraordinary group of people," Gabriel explained, referring to the human rights organization founded by Nelson Mandela.
"Their currency is not based on military power, economic power or political power, but just the moral authority they have from having lived extraordinary, selfless lives," the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer continued. "That's something which I wanted to talk about, write about and encourage, because it's pretty dark out there in lots of places and I think we need people who can just nudge both us and our leaders and keep alive some basic values of justice, compassion and democracy — a hope that can help us start envisioning a just, peaceful and fairer world."
Gabriel went on to say that he thinks "people generally respond much better to positive pictures of what’s coming than they do when they are bombarded and scared by negative ones."
"We are much more likely to engage if we feel hope," he pointed out. "Right now, we don't see so many positive visions of the future, at least they're not being projected so strongly as the negative, so I think it's really important that we start looking for visions to which we can aspire and looking for people who can provide that."
View this post on InstagramFans on YouTube were beyond grateful for the new song, with many praising its "nostalgic" feel.
"When you sing it is your soul that powers your voice. Your music has taken us on an incredible journey over the years. In these times you are here to make art, it helps, it heals. Thank you," wrote one fan.
"The right song at the right time!" declared a second person, adding, "Thank you Peter, for standing up for the planet and its people. They need you."
"The very moment I played this my body started dancin' and flowin' and then I'm crying because it's just sounds soo good!!!" another commenter admitted. "Thank you for this moment in time that you just shared with us, Peter!"
Just like the other tunes we've heard from o\i thus far, two versions of "Won't Stand Down" will be released: a bright-side mix by Mark "Spike" Stent and a dark-side mix by Tchad Blake.
The Surprising Reason the Met Gala Carpet Turned Green
As celebrities and VIPs make their grand entrance at the Met Gala in their meticulously crafted looks, the first thing you might notice is that the red carpet isn’t, well, red.
Raúl Àvila is the reason behind this year's green, garden-inspired walkway. He has designed every Met Gala since 2007 and has something special in mind to celebrate this year’s theme, “Costume Art.”
The 2026 design team included director BazLuhrmann and the award-winning set designer DerekMcLane. They were inspired by the Renaissance art period and decided the entryway should resemble Northern Italian gardens.
The mossy carpet is meant to illustrate a romantic atmosphere. According to Vogue, the A-list attendees are intended to be “immersed in a scene fit for a work of art, placing them—and the wearable art on their bodies—within the visual tradition of the surrounding pieces.”
Apart from not being red, the carpet has another surprise: it doesn’t appear to be a carpet. It was hand-painted to imitate a stone garden trail. The goal was to make it seem like it had “been there for a long time,” said Àvila.
The carpet is complete with wall and ceiling adornments.
Vogue described the walkway’s atmosphere as a “cloud of light purple, pink, and white wisteria, lining the tent’s ceiling and walls. It is a mix of real wisteria and trompe l’oeil.”
The texture of the walls gives it a “simplicity of modernity, which I think is right for this year,” said McLane. “It’s soft, it’s romantic, it says spring.”
The Met Gala is an annual charity fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The event typically coincides with the opening of the spring fashion exhibition. This year, the Met is welcoming nearly 12,000 square feet of Condé M. Nast Galleries.
