1973 Hit Ranked Among ‘Greatest Guitar Riffs of All Time’ Turns 53

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:34pm

53 years ago today, on May 1, 1973, Deep Purple released their blues rock anthem “Smoke on the Water” as a single in the US. The official debut followed their releases of “Never Before” and “Highway Star,” all of which appeared on the same successful album, 1972’s Machine Head

Written by Deep Purple’s Mark II lineup, which consisted of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Richie Blackmore, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice, “Smoke on the Water” features one of the most instantly recognizable guitar riffs, making it a timeless anthem beloved by new generations.

Success of the Song

Despite its distinctive quality, the headbanger, which includes just four notes in G minor and is originally played on a Fender Stratocaster, didn’t reach the top of any chart. The tune’s highest charting position stood at No. 3 on the Cash Box Top 100, a chart that competed with Billboard’s at the time. The song also reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

While the song didn’t make it to No. 1, the band didn’t expect it to take off the way that it had, according to Men’s Journal

Inspired by a Fire

In fact, the inspiration for “Smoke on the Water” came to band member Glover following a fire that broke out inside the venue where the band was supposed to record their Machine Head album, with the use of The Rolling Stone’s mobile studio they had rented for three weeks.

The source states that in 1971, while working on the album, the night before they were to record at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland, a person attending Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention's concert at the establishment fired a flare gun at the ceiling, sparking a fire that engulfed the building.

"It was probably the biggest fire I'd ever seen up to that point and probably ever seen in my life,” Glover told the publication about watching billows of smoke take over the building adjacent to Lake Geneva. “It was a huge building. I remember there was very little panic getting out because it didn't seem like much of a fire at first. But, when it caught, it went up like a fireworks display.”

Since its release, “Smoke on the Water” didn't need to prove itself on a chart, as it has gone on to earn recognition on several lists. The track was voted as the leading song featuring the “Greatest Guitar Riff of All Time” in 2022 by LouderSound.com. Other notable rankings include being listed as one of ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’ in 2004 by Rolling Stone and earning a placement on the ‘25 Best Classic Rock Songs of All Time’ by Collider

Taylor Swift Reveals Which Song Has Her Favorite Lyrics 'Plot Twist'

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:31pm

Taylor Swift is no stranger to a lyrical plot twist, but there's one song from her discography that she believes has the best unexpected ending.

In her new interview with the New York Times, Swift sat down to discuss some of her greatest songwriting feats, and as far as plot twists go, Swift said a song from her folklore album takes the cake.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

"My favorite end plot twist I think that I've done in songwriting is the ending of 'The Last Great American Dynasty.' That's my favorite one."

"It is just so much fun to tell this story about this real woman who lived in history and she defied the social norms and she drove people crazy," Swift said of the narrative that plays out in the song, which is based on the real life of composer and socialite Rebekah Harkness. Quoting the lyrics to her own song, Swift, 36, said of Harkness, "She had a marvelous time ruining everything."

The song goes on to mention "Holiday House," the name of Rebekah's former saltbox house on the coast of Rhode Island. By the end of the story, listeners find out that Rebekah moved away from Holiday House, and 50 years later it was bought by another woman with a big reputation (spoiler alert: it's Swift). While paraphrasing her own lyrics, Swift said, "In the end..she moved away from Holiday House. It sat quietly on that beach, free of women with madness, their men and bad habits. And then it was bought by me."

Fans learn by the end of the track that Swift was referring to her famous Rhode Island beachfront home in Rhode Island, which she purchased in 2013 for $17.75 million, according to the Providence Journal.

"The Last Great American Dynasty" is a fan-favorite track from her folklore album, which came out in 2020 and won Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys. It was also included on the setlist for the first portion of the Eras Tour (though it was later cut to make room for the Tortured Poets Department set).

"Every time I get to that part, when I would sing it on tour...I wanted my grin to go from here to here," Swift added in her NYT interview, gesturing to both sides of her head by her ears. "But that looks crazy. So it's like I had to, like, taper down my own excitement."

1978 No.1 Hit, Originally Written for a Movie, Defined a Generation

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:26pm

There’s no denying that many classic films owe part of their legacy to unforgettable title tracks. While the 1978 musical romantic comedyGrease defined a generation of fans, its iconic theme song also rose to the top of the charts, becoming a hit in its own right.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John starred in the hit film Grease as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson during the greaser era of the late '50s. It followed the two teenagers as they re-meet at the start of a new year in high school after falling in love over the summer. Grease went on to become the highest-grossing film of that year and earned an Oscar nomination. Alongside its storyline, the film also became a classic thanks to its soundtrack.

Besides "You're the One that I Want," Grease's title track also dominated the Billboard Hot 100 charts that celebrated the greaser era. Bee Gees' very own Barry Gibb developed the track "Grease, with Frankie Vallias vocals, and it was released as a single for the motion picture.

With Grease having originally been a 1971 on-stage musical, "Grease" was one of the four original songs commissioned for the film that never appeared in the play. It's also one of the only tracks from the original soundtrack not performed by the movie cast.

As the story goes, Gibb had enlisted the help of Peter Frampton to play guitar for the song's development session. Gibbs also served as the main vocals before turning to Valli, who had a similar vocal range. Valli was also chosen due to his popularity as a singer from the pre-British Invasion era, when Grease takes place. When Valli agreed to record the track, he had no recording contract, with the film's title track earning him a deal with Warner Bros.

In an interview with Billboard in 2013, Vallie revealed he was given the option of performing the track or appearing in the film.

"Well, I had already heard the title song, and I loved it. I called [famed arranger] Don Costa up and told him to come over right away and hear this song. He said, 'If you don't record this song, you're crazy,'" he explained.

If he had appeared in Grease, he would have performed "Beauty School Dropout," which was instead performed by Frankie Avalon. Despite that track also becoming popular, "'Grease' was one of the biggest records I ever had in my career."

"Grease" went on to dominate the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 1 and landed at No. 13 on the Adult Contemporary charts. Fans can hear the track during the animated opening scene of the film and during its ending. Valli would later release a follow-up album mimicking the lyrics of the track, with "Grease" having been one of his top hits as a solo artist.

Pierce Brosnan’s Boxing Movie Transformation Is So Wild That We Almost Didn’t Recognize Him

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:12pm

Pierce Brosnan is known for his dashing good looks, but the beloved Irish actor is almost unrecognizable in the new trailer for Giant.

The handsome actor, 72, who has tackled diverse roles in films ranging from Mrs. Doubtfire to James Bond flicks like Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough, plays a boxing coach in Giant, which is executive-produced by none other than Sylvester Stallone. The film is based on the childhood and life of British-Yemeni boxer Naseem 'Naz' Hamed, PEOPLE reports. But it's Brosnan who shocks in the trailer, sporting thinning white hair in the role of Hamad's trainer, Brendan Ingle.

"Based on the remarkable true story of legendary British-Yemeni boxing champion Prince Naseem 'Naz' Hamed and his relationship with Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, Giant charts Naz's inspiring rags-to-riches underdog tale from his humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming champion of the world," an official synopsis reads.

Check out Brosnan's shocking transformation in the trailer below:

What's Brosnan's Secret to His Legendary Hair?

While Brosnan sports thinning white hair in the movie, he's known for his lush head of hair in real life. So what's his secret? He had a delightful answer when asked by Page Six why Irishmen seem to have such good heads of hair.

“It’s all in the hair, the old Celtic hair,” he explained, saying that his father, “Dear Tom…had good hair. I have no idea. Maybe it’s in the potatoes, or the butter, or the Guinness.”

When told he’s aging like a fine wine, Brosnan said, “I’m doing my best!”

One of Brosnan's recent roles was opposite Ben Kingsley and Helen Mirren in The Thursday Murder Club, a Netflix murder mystery based on the popular book by Richard Osman. His character is a bit of a departure from some of his most famous roles.

“I’ve done rough-around-the-edges before,” said Brosnan, who knows a thing or two about being slick, as any 007 fan is well aware. “So entrenched in the world of the sophisticated man and Mr. Slick and Mr. Elegance, you know, sometimes you paint yourself into a corner with your own…you get hoisted by your own canard so to speak! It’s paid the rent over the years and given me the great joy of having the career that I’ve got.”

Lara Trump Debunks the Barron Trump Time Traveler Conspiracy, ‘All of It Is Wild’

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:11pm

Here’s a sentence most people never thought they would say—Is Barron Trump a time traveler? Apparently, conspiracy theorists have suggested that President Donald Trump’s youngest son has indeed traveled through time. And Lara Trump (Eric Trump’s wife and the Presdient’s daughter-in-law) isn’t here for it.

What is the Barron Trump Time Traveler Conspiracy?

As far as conspiracy theories go, this one is pretty out there. The now-viral theory relies heavily on a connection between the President’s 20-year-old son and the protagonist of author Ingersoll Lockwood’s 19th-century novels, The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump and his Wonderful Dog Bulger, The Last President, and Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey.

In the books, a boy named Baron Trump (note the different spelling) is a time traveler who lives in ‘Trump Castle and is mentored by ‘Don.’ Hence, the association between the IRL Trumps and the fictional 1890s characters.

The Last President is filled with more than a few somewhat uncanny and almost eerie parallels between the novel’s fictional president and Donald Trump, including a chaotic, contested election, riots on Fifth Avenue (the location of Trump Tower), and a cabinet appointee named Pence.

Of course, the conspiracy doesn’t end there. Donald Trump’s uncle, MIT physicist John G. Trump, reportedly reviewed Nikola Tesla’s work after the scientist’s death in 1943. The story goes that Trump (John, that is) didn’t find anything of interest in the papers. Or at least, that’s what he said. Some conspiracy theorists believe that the physicist did find information about time travel and shared it with his family. And that would be how Donald Trump supposedly came into the machine that his son Barron uses to travel through time.

Even though there is a fictional time-traveling Baron Trump, Lara Trump wants nothing to do with the “wild” theory. When asked about Barron on a recent episode of herLara Trump Wanted for Questioning podcast, she said, “What is this? I’ve seen this out there. All of it is wild.” She went on to add, “I’m not trying to ruin anybody or rain on any parades here, Barron Trump is not a time traveler. Sorry to say it. I’m sorry I broke a lot of people’s hearts today. Yeah, I think the theory is crazy, obviously.”

Lara continued, explaining, “Name me one time traveler…people have gotten so far off the rails on this Barron being a time traveler thing.” The Trump family member continued, “I’ve known Barron for 18 years, okay? He’s not a time traveler. I’ve seen him grow up.”

Trump later compared this conspiracy to other well-known theories, saying, “If you believe that, you may be a person who believes we didn’t really land on the moon. We’re going back. Artemis II just circled around the dark side of the moon!”

Dick Van Dyke Shows Off Seriously Impressive Fitness Routine in Throwback Clip

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 4:05pm

Staying active has always been part of Dick Van Dyke’s routine, even well into his 90s.

The Hollywood legend’s wife, Arlene Silver, shared a throwback video from 2021 on her Instagram story on Friday, May 1, that is seriously impressive. In the clip, Van Dyke—who would have been around 95 at the time—is seen working out on the floor using an ab cruncher machine, showing off his strength.

At one point, the actor effortlessly lifts his legs with ease while lying back, circling them in the air. He even pauses to wave at the camera, flashing his signature charm mid-exercise.

A screenshot of Arlene Silvers Instagram story on May 1, 2026.

While the video may be from a few years ago, Van Dyke has always been serious about his health, even up until his 100th birthday last December. In his book 100 Rules for Living to 100 (which was released in November 2025), Van Dyke shared that he still aims to get to the gym “three times a week.” His workouts typically involve a full circuit, moving from one machine to the next, starting with core work before transitioning into lower- and upper-body exercises.

“It’s the music that really gets me going,” he wrote in the book. “By the end of my workout, I’m in a sweaty rush…and my spirits are soaring.” He also revealed he relies on little treats to help motivate him through his exercise which include “a huge smoothie and/or frothy caffeine treat after my workout,” or a post-sweat nap.

And it appears that mindset has certainly stuck. Van Dyke was spotted dancing during a Malibu event celebrating the groundbreaking of a new urgent care center on April 27. In a video shared online by his photographer, he could be seen tapping his heels and shimmying in his chair to live music, smiling as he chatted with Herb Alpert. Cane in hand, he moved along to the rhythm, with Silver seated in between the two legends.

So, it’s key to create a skincare routine that combats those issues. Midwest Left Reeling From Destructive Tornadoes as Severe Weather Shifts Toward the South, and Your Travel Plans May Be Ruined

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:41pm

The Central U.S. is still catching its breath after a violent start to the week, with a string of tornadoes and giant hail battering the region. While the most dangerous "supercells" have since moved on, a new weather system is beginning to brew for the weekend—this time setting its sights further south. If you're planning on traveling to the Gulf Coast area this weekend, here's what you need to know.

Recapping a Week of "Giant" Hail and Tornadoes

Monday, April 27, proved to be a historic day of destruction for parts of the Midwest. An extended period of severe weather slammed into central and southeast Illinois, with National Weather Service damage surveys confirming five EF1 tornadoes between Logan and Champaign counties.

According to The Guardian, the storms brought "giant" hail and widespread straight-line winds of 70 to 80 miles per hour. More than 260,000 customers lost power across a massive six-state stretch, including Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan. Tragically, one fatality was reported in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a tree fell during the high-wind event. In Clinton County, Illinois, the sheriff described the damage as "unbelievable," with mobile homes destroyed and tree limbs penetrating roofs in the Germantown and Trenton areas.

What’s Brewing for the Weekend?

If you’re checking the radar for your Saturday plans, the "bullseye" has shifted away from the Midwest. Forecasters are now tracking an increasing threat of strong to severe storms mainly for the Florida Panhandle, Southeast Georgia, and North-Central Florida on Saturday, May 2. Those with travel planned to those areas should check weather updates frequently and plan for delayed or canceled flights and road closures.

Related: A 'Super El Niño' Could Be Brewing Sooner Than You Think— Here's How It Could Disrupt Your Travel Plans

While the massive hail threat isn't as dangerous as the ones predicted for the Midwest earlier this week, these Southern storms are still capable of producing damaging wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph. A stalled front lifting north as a warm front will be the primary trigger for this new round of severe weather. Those in the Midwest, on the other hand, will get a much-needed reprieve with supposed cooler, calmer temperatures.

Iconic ’80s Rock Band Set for Rare One-Night-Only Show at America 250 Celebration

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:33pm

America is gearing up to celebrate its 250th birthday (the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence), so naturally, the milestone calls for something or someone iconic.

The latest rock legend to join the lineup for the America250PA Commonwealth concert series is the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll herself, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

The '80s rock band will join an already star-studded lineup for one night only at Hersheypark Stadium on June 13, 2026.

Previously announced artists on that date include four-time GRAMMY Award-nominated group and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award winners, The Avett Brothers, featuring Mike Patton.

“The 250th calls for something iconic," said Cassandra Coleman, Executive Director of America250PA, in a press release shared with Parade.

"Joan Jett’s voice has defined rock and roll for generations, and bringing her to an iconic Pennsylvania stage like Hersheypark Stadium connects that energy to a place that shaped the Commonwealth and the country," she continued.

“Rock and roll has always been about freedom and making your own path, so celebrating America’s 250th in Pennsylvania -- the birthplace of our nation -- feels right," Jett said of the performance, adding, "We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with everyone.”

America250 Concert Series

The concert series, which spans several dates, will also include Cole Swindell with special guests Gabby Barrett and The West Point Band at State College on May 23, which is sold out, along with The Fray and First to Eleven on June 6, also sold out at Erie.

The concerts are all free of charge, but tickets are required to enter, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Concerts.America250PA.org.

Joan Jett's 2026 Tour Schedule

This is one of the few shows the legendary guitarist will play in the US, with two California shows scheduled for May 2 and May 23, and an appearance at Bourbon & Beyond in Louisville, KY on Sep. 24.

Earlier this month, the band announced a series of headlining shows in the U.K, marking the first UK headline tour in 16 years for the rockers.

No matter where in the world you are, Boston is never far away. So, the next time you need an instant emotional lift, just cue up the band’s classic rock anthem that defined nostalgia itself, “More Than a Feeling,” and let the goosebumps go wild.

A cornerstone of arena rock, the 1976 hit belted out by lead vocalist Brad Delp helped shape the sound of the decades that followed, earning its place asone of the greatestclassic rock songs of all time. Released on Boston’s blockbuster self-titled debut, it was an instant success, shooting up to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 — but behind the polished sound was a very different story. Guitarist and composer Tom Scholz actually spent five whole years perfecting the track in his basement.

“Despite that big, polished sound … it was actually recorded using a wealth of custom equipment in Scholz’s basement,” What Hi-Fi? writes. “This is a key reason it took him five years to complete ‘More Than a Feeling,’ with Scholz creating his own hardware and techniques to stack the layered guitar parts and vocals that have since become synonymous with the band.”

Inspired by the cathartic payoff of songs like Left Banke’s 1967 hit “Walk Away Renee,” Scholz injected that same “heart-tugging mood” into “More Than a Feeling,” Rolling Stone notes. The lyrics also carry a personal thread: “Marianne” was based on Scholz’s real-life cousin, a childhood crush from when he was just 10. The result is a song that turns nostalgia into its own muse — a fever dream about a few minutes spent drifting through memory, soundtracked by incredible rock.

“It was written about a fantasy event. But it's one that almost everybody can identify with, of somebody losing somebody that was important to them, and music taking them back there,” Scholz tells Entertainment Weekly

For WhatHi-Fi?, they see the track not just as a song that defines nostalgia, but as a universal anthem able to unite the entire musical spectrum, from “classic rock snobs” to “Taylor Swift fans,” and also as a revolutionary technical dream.

“As well as sounding nice, it’s also a trailblazing song that laid the groundwork for the garage recording, home-produced revolution that has been keeping smaller acts alive and helping new bands get discovered for decades now,” the outlet writes. “Boston, we doff our collective caps to you!

This year, "More Than a Feeling" celebrates 50 years on the airwaves. Still, the song remains exactly what its title suggests: More than a feeling, it’s a way back to that version of yourself that feels most alive — reverie spent with the spirit you thought you left behind. Rock on!

The Longest Solar Eclipse in the Last 100 Years Is Coming and Won’t Return for Another 157 Years

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:19pm

For anyone who missed the North American eclipse of 2024, there's good news: the sky is about to deliver an even more amazing spectacle. On Aug. 2, 2027, the moon will simply vanish—and for those positioned in the right place, daylight will surrender to deep twilight for the longest total solar eclipse of the remaining 21st century.

This isn't just another eclipse. NASA has confirmed that the maximum duration will stretch to 6 minutes and 23 seconds, making it the longest stretch of totality until 2114 from easily accessible land. By comparison, the 2024 North American eclipse lasted just 4 minutes and 28 seconds at its peak.

The phenomenon counts on two celestial events working in sync: the moon will be at its closest point to Earth (called perigee), appearing large enough to completely cover the sun, while the sun will hang nearly overhead in North Africa. Scientists say these conditions won't align again for nearly 90 years (aka not in our lifetime).

Related: When Is the Next Eclipse? Plus, Astronomers and Astrologists Answer Your Burning Eclipse Questions

Where to Actually See It

The path of totality will span a large swath across the globe: from Spain's southern tip at the Straits of Gibraltar, through Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, before crossing into Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The track spans 9,400 miles, meaning roughly 89 million people live within its viewing range.

For those seeking a bucket list trip, you’re in luck: the best viewing spot is in Egypt. Luxor, the ancient temple capital, sits almost directly in the path of totality, where you'll get the full 6 minutes and 19 seconds of darkness—and the weather is on your side since August brings virtually cloudless skies to that region. That's practically a guarantee for eclipse chasers. According to Daily Galaxy, totality will occur at 1:02 pm local time in Luxor.

You can also view it from the coast. Tarifa, at Spain's southern tip, delivers 4 minutes and 39 seconds of totality. Tangier, Morocco, just across the Strait, gets 4 minutes and 50 seconds at 10:45 am local time. And if you want to pair a vacation with your eclipse viewing, consider a cruise: tour operators are already booking Mediterranean voyages that will position passengers perfectly.

What You'll Actually See

During those precious minutes of totality, the moon's shadow will race across Earth's surface at roughly 5,000 miles per hour. You'll witness Baily's Beads—a string of bright points where sunlight streams through the moon's valleys—followed instantly by the diamond ring effect. Then the corona emerges as a pearly halo, and the sky darkens enough to reveal stars and planets in broad daylight.

Just remember: the only safe time to look without eclipse glasses is during totality itself. Even a sliver of direct sunlight will damage your retinas. Certified solar viewing glasses are non-negotiable for every other phase.

The 2027 eclipse is shaping up to be a once-in-a-lifetime event, blending perfect timing with some of the most accessible and stunning viewing spots on the planet. If you've ever wanted to chase the sun, this is the year to make your celestial dreams come true.

Runaway HBO Love Story Hit Ranked a Fan Favorite of TV Couples

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:16pm

It's the year of the hockey romance, and this couple is goals for more reason than one. The HBO show Heated Rivalry has cemented itself in the cultural zeitgeist. Fans of the runaway hit streamer have officially ranked lead characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as one of their favorite TV couples according to The Guardian. They call Ilya and Shane's forbidden romance filled with "sincerity" and "extraordinary chemistry" as well as saying that Heated Rivalry "is steamy, yes, but entirely earnest in its depiction of these two men so palpably yearning for [each other.]"

Portrayed by Hudson Williams and Conner Storrie in the series, Heated Rivalry hit streaming in late November of 2025. The show was a smash hit and became the second top driver of viewership to HBO Max in their entire catalog. Additionally, it is Crave's most-watched original series to date. A second season is in the works, set for a 2027 premiere. Storrie and Williams will both return to reprise their roles.

Based on the enemies to lovers romance novel of the same name, Heated Rivalry follows Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov who are star hockey players drafted the same year to rival teams. Shane is more shy and quiet, whereas Ilya is brazen and extremely cocky. After the players spontaneous connect and hook up, they maintain a casual relationship over the years that blossoms into something more. But their relationship is challenged not only by their incredibly different personalities, but by homophobia, other romances, and the overtly competitive nature of their chosen sport.

Heated Rivalry is technically the second book in author Rachel Reid's "Game Changers" series, the first of two that follow Shane and Ilya's partnership. A final book following the beloved couple titled Unrivaled is set for release in the summer of 2027. In addition to the trilogy, Reid has released standalone short stories featuring the couple on her website.

Readers and viewers alike have fallen in love with Shane and Ilya for their wit, charm, and palpable chemistry both on the screen and on the page. Fans are so ready to see where their journeys will take them in the upcoming sequels.

The top shelf has a narrow clearance, while the lower two have a large amount of space in between them. The bottom two shelves are spaced a little closer together compared to the top two shelves. Measuring around 64 inches tall, 17 inches wide, and 12 inches deep, this storage cabinet is ideal for both small and large spaces alike. It builds up, taking advantage of vertical space rather than using up precious floor space. A reviewer commented that this cabinet is the right size for their small living room.

The panels on the doors are made of acrylic, mimicking the look of glass with its clarity and transparency. Acrylic is a safer option compared to glass, as it's stronger, sturdier, and lighter. The rest of the cabinet is made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and shoppers noted that it’s of great quality. The four legs are equipped with adjustable feet to keep the cabinet stable and prevent it from wobbling around.

Sydney Sweeney Hard Launches Scooter Braun on Instagram—See the Photos

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:14pm

Sydney Sweeney is finally hard-launching her relationship with Scooter Braun!

The Euphoria actress, 28, shared pictures with the talent manager 44, from their time at the Stagecoach music festival last weekend to Instagram on Friday, May 1.

"cowboy kind of weekend ♥️," Sweeney captioned the post, which included romantic photos of them on the festival grounds and in a photo booth.

RELATED: Sydney Sweeney Breaks Silence on Broken Engagement

Sweeney's post comes just two weeks after Braun made their relationship Instagram official by sharing a black-and-white photo of himself and the actress to his Instagram Story on Apr. 15.

The couple reportedly began dating in September 2025 after they met at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's wedding in Venice, Italy in June of that year.

Sweeney was previously engaged to Jonathan Davino, a businessman and restaurateur from Chicago, but called off the engagement in March 2025.

An insider told People at the time that Sweeney and Davino’s relationship had been “rocky for a long time” and that she was prioritizing her career.

“Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects,” the source said last year. “What did make her overwhelmed, though, was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it.”

The insider added that the pair only lasted this long because it “was hard for her to break it off” and the split happened not because there was no love, but because Sweeney “just wants to focus on her career right now.”

Braun, for his part, was previously married to Yael Cohen from 2014 to 2022. The pair share three children.

Olympian Tara Lipinski Reveals ‘Devastating’ Family Update: ‘We Lost Our Baby’

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:12pm

Tara Lipinski announced that her surrogate suffered a miscarriage during the second trimester of her pregnancy with the Olympian and husband Todd Kapostasy’s second baby.

The retired figure skater, 43, revealed the heartbreaking update via Instagram on Friday, May 1.

“I didn’t think I was ready to share this yet,” she wrote. “If you’re part of this community, you know how sharing in the moment can break you. Sometimes just writing it down or saying it aloud makes it feel that much more real. It takes so much to pick yourself up and start over—and keep pushing. Putting blinders on can sometimes feel a little easier and doing it publicly always feels daunting.”

Despite her hesitation, Lipinski noted that others bravely speaking out about their fertility journeys encouraged her to do the same.

“But I did it once and I can do it again. I was sitting on the plane home from D.C. after speaking to legislators on Capitol Hill to advocate that IVF should be accessible to all, and I realized I had to do it,” she continued. “I was tearing up reading so many messages from women sharing their vulnerable stories and fears, I just knew now is the time.”

Lipinski then explained that her surrogate suffered a pregnancy loss while carrying her and Kapostasy’s second baby.

“A few months ago, we lost our baby in the second trimester,” she wrote. “We’ve been on our second surrogacy journey for two years now. Our first surrogate, who carried [daughter] Georgie, wasn’t medically cleared to proceed with our sibling journey. I grieved that ending and we started over. From the long road in finding a surrogate, to medical clearance setbacks, to a failed transfer, and now this loss … it hasn’t been an easy road.”

She added: “I feel incredibly lucky for the woman who carried our baby (our angel) who will always hold such a special place in my heart. And for our first surrogate, who has continued to support me from afar through this second journey. We will forever be connected.”

Amid her own heartbreak, Lipinski offered support to individuals facing similar circumstances.

“A second trimester loss was devastating,” she concluded. “Something new to add to the long list of heartbreaks we’ve endured on this fertility journey. Another memory that will be hard to erase. That appointment will be etched in my mind forever as well as all the steps that came after when a pregnancy is that far along. My heart goes out to all the people who have experienced miscarriage, baby loss and stillbirth. You are warriors. Reading so many of your stories has reminded me how important it is to share—even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.”

Lipinski has been forthcoming about her fertility struggles over the years. Outside of her surrogacy efforts, she has suffered multiple miscarriages and failed IVF transfers herself. She was ultimately diagnosed with endometriosis and underwent surgery for the condition.

In a pre-taped Today interview that aired on Friday, Lipinski detailed her plans to expand her family.

“We’re going to use surrogacy again,” she said, noting that she still has embryos remaining. “I joke … we’re going to use all five of those embryos.”

Lipinski and Kapostasy tied the knot in June 2017 and welcomed daughter Georgie via surrogate in October 2023.

Brody went in with $2,800, wagering everything, and landing an incorrect answer for a $0 finisher, marking a bittersweet ending for the one-day champ.

New High Noon Release Is a Big First for the Brand

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:59pm

High Noon just shared some pretty exciting news for fans of the hard seltzer.

As interest in the ready-to-drink category continues to grow with new competition, High Noon is "teeing up" with what it says is its first-ever flavor drop—one that's inspired by a popular cocktail order on the golf course.

"As the leading premium hard seltzer, High Noon has always led the category by showing up for the peak occasions of our fans' lives," Britt West, chief commercial officer at Gallo, the producer of High Noon, shared in a statement. "With our first-ever flavor drop, we're driving real excitement and urgency at retail in an increasingly crowded RTD space."

High Noon has previously offered limited-time flavors, but at launch, they were only available in a larger variety pack of its other hard seltzers. This time, High Noon is dropping a full pack of the new flavor, but only for a limited time (or so it says, after all, the company did make Kiwi and Raspberry permanent options in its Beach Pack after fans demanded their return).

Of all the flavors the company could have chosen, West suggests that the decision to mix up a Transfusion flavor was intentional and underscores the brand's "focus on winning in high-affinity occasions like the golf course, where consumers are seeking genuine refreshment—and where our real vodka and real juice proposition delivers in a way others can't."

High Noon Gets Its First Limited-Time Flavor Drop

According to an official description, High Noon Transfusion is made with real vodka and real juice to deliver a refreshing blend of grape, lime, and ginger in its classic Vodka Seltzer format.

To celebrate, High Noon said it will be launching a collaboration with Good Good Golf, featuring a line of branded driver covers, rope hats, and t-shirts. The hard seltzer brand also plans to have a "heavy presence" at PGA Tour events to ensure its Transfusion is "the drink of the season."

Where Will High Noon's Transfusion Flavor Be Available to Purchase?

According to Wednesday's announcement, it will be released in finite allocations by market, bringing the "scarcity-driven" release into High Noon's ready-to-drink space.

The limited-time drop will be single-flavor 6-packs (MSRP $14.99) at select retailers nationwide now, while supplies last.

Donald Trump Gushes Over 'Brave' Kate Middleton During Private Oval Office Interview

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:58pm

Donald Trump is a fan of Kate Middleton and had positive things to say about her during a private interview in the Oval Office.

Royal author Robert Hardman was invited by the president, 79, for an off-camera meeting during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s state visit, and he gave his unfiltered opinions about several members of the British royal family. Hardman, who wrote the highly anticipated biography Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story., gave his account of the conversation to the Daily Mail

Trump asked how Kate, 44, was “doing,” before recalling his positive impression of her when they spent time together during Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom last year.

“She's so great,” Trump said. “She was sick, people said crazy things about her and she was so brave."

Trump was referring to Kate stepping out of the public eye in early 2024. Her absence from events caused wild conspiracy theories to circulate about her whereabouts before she publicly announced her cancer diagnosis

In addition to Kate, Trump is also a fan of her husband, Prince William, whom he said “will be a good King.”

"He's very nice,” Trump continued. “A great guy. I like him."

Trump eagerly awaited Charles, 77, and Camilla’s four-day trip to America. The state visit was to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, as well as ease tensions amid the countries' disagreements on several world issues, including the Russian-Ukrainian war and the conflict in Iran. Trump is known to be a fan of the royal family, specifically the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II, and he wondered if Hardman approved of the slate of activities that were planned for the monarch and queen consort.

"We've done a good job with the King, right?” Trump asked the royal expert. “He's a great guy, he really is."

Although the president has positive impressions of the working senior royals, he gave his unfiltered opinion about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during his conversation with Hardman.

RELATED: King Charles and Princess Diana Started This Iconic Royal Tradition During Their 1981 Wedding

The royal biographer admitted to the president that it was “highly unlikely” that Harry, 41, would make a “comeback” with the royal family. Trump replied, “Too many things, I guess," before giving his thoughts on Markle, 44.

"That wife of his. Boy, what she's done to that guy,” Trump said. “I guess she got blocked out by William's wife."

Hardman’s account did not elaborate or give context to what Trump meant in his comparison of the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales.

TV Host Ranked Among 'Best Interviewers' Made First Broadcast 69 Years Ago Today

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:48pm

It's hard to pick which of Larry King's distinguished guests offered the most memorable interview — from Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X to Martha Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld.

If you're not too familiar with the late TV host, many of his famed sit-downs can be found on YouTube and other streamers. King is said to have interviewed more than 50,000 people on-air during his reign at CNN and beyond — and it can all be traced back to an entirely different medium.

"It started May 1, 1957, on a little radio station in Miami," King told CBS in 2007 amid his 50-year on-air celebration.

That means Friday, May 1 marks 69 years since the Larry King Live host made his first-ever radio broadcast, which paved the way to his decorated career.

The Emmy winner was born in New York but moved to Miami by the late 1950s to find work in radio broadcasting. He was reportedly doing maintenance work at a small station when an announcers quit, and King was put on the air as a disc jockey, according to his online biography.

Just before going on the air, the manager reportedly asked him to change his name to something less ethnic — so the legend chose King after apparently seeing an ad in The Miami Herald for a liquor store. The rest is history.

On January 23, 2021, it was announced on King’s Twitter that he had passed away at the age of 87.

“With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host, and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” read the post. “For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster. Additionally, while it was his name appearing in the shows’ titles, Larry always viewed his interview subjects as the true stars of his programs, and himself as merely an unbiased conduit between the guest and audience.”
