Runaway HBO Love Story Hit Ranked a Fan Favorite of TV Couples

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:16pm

It's the year of the hockey romance, and this couple is goals for more reason than one. The HBO show Heated Rivalry has cemented itself in the cultural zeitgeist. Fans of the runaway hit streamer have officially ranked lead characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as one of their favorite TV couples according to The Guardian. They call Ilya and Shane's forbidden romance filled with "sincerity" and "extraordinary chemistry" as well as saying that Heated Rivalry "is steamy, yes, but entirely earnest in its depiction of these two men so palpably yearning for [each other.]"

Portrayed by Hudson Williams and Conner Storrie in the series, Heated Rivalry hit streaming in late November of 2025. The show was a smash hit and became the second top driver of viewership to HBO Max in their entire catalog. Additionally, it is Crave's most-watched original series to date. A second season is in the works, set for a 2027 premiere. Storrie and Williams will both return to reprise their roles.

Based on the enemies to lovers romance novel of the same name, Heated Rivalry follows Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov who are star hockey players drafted the same year to rival teams. Shane is more shy and quiet, whereas Ilya is brazen and extremely cocky. After the players spontaneous connect and hook up, they maintain a casual relationship over the years that blossoms into something more. But their relationship is challenged not only by their incredibly different personalities, but by homophobia, other romances, and the overtly competitive nature of their chosen sport.

Heated Rivalry is technically the second book in author Rachel Reid's "Game Changers" series, the first of two that follow Shane and Ilya's partnership. A final book following the beloved couple titled Unrivaled is set for release in the summer of 2027. In addition to the trilogy, Reid has released standalone short stories featuring the couple on her website.

Readers and viewers alike have fallen in love with Shane and Ilya for their wit, charm, and palpable chemistry both on the screen and on the page. Fans are so ready to see where their journeys will take them in the upcoming sequels.

This cabinet is also available in a larger size, which normally retails for $290, but is now on sale for $246.

Featuring an exposed wood grain finish, this storage cabinet lends itself to the charming farmhouse aesthetic. The finish gives it a rustic feel that’ll give your home a cozy and inviting touch. Designed with a sleek and streamlined silhouette with an arched top and transparent doors, this cabinet also has a modern vibe. Placed anywhere in your living space, it’ll instantly elevate the room with its modern farmhouse charm.

With five fixed shelves, this cabinet offers plenty of storage space. You can use them to display books and decor in your living room or show off your finest mugs and dinnerware in your dining room. Alternatively, you can organize beauty products and accessories in your bedroom or store linens and toiletries in your bathroom.

This storage cabinet features two doors that are held secure by magnetic closures. Separated by the doors, the top section of the cabinet boasts three shelves. The top shelf has a narrow clearance, while the lower two have a large amount of space in between them. The bottom two shelves are spaced a little closer together compared to the top two shelves. Each shelf can support 20 to 30 pounds, and because they’re spaced at different heights, they’ll allow you to store items of various sizes to maximize space.

Measuring around 64 inches tall, 17 inches wide, and 12 inches deep, this storage cabinet is ideal for both small and large spaces alike. It builds up, taking advantage of vertical space rather than using up precious floor space. A reviewer commented that this cabinet is the right size for their small living room.

The panels on the doors are made of acrylic, mimicking the look of glass with its clarity and transparency. Acrylic is a safer option compared to glass, as it's stronger, sturdier, and lighter. The rest of the cabinet is made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and shoppers noted that it’s of great quality. The four legs are equipped with adjustable feet to keep the cabinet stable and prevent it from wobbling around.

Sydney Sweeney Hard Launches Scooter Braun on Instagram—See the Photos

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:14pm

Sydney Sweeney is finally hard-launching her relationship with Scooter Braun!

The Euphoria actress, 28, shared pictures with the talent manager 44, from their time at the Stagecoach music festival last weekend to Instagram on Friday, May 1.

"cowboy kind of weekend ♄," Sweeney captioned the post, which included romantic photos of them on the festival grounds and in a photo booth.

RELATED: Sydney Sweeney Breaks Silence on Broken Engagement

Sweeney's post comes just two weeks after Braun made their relationship Instagram official by sharing a black-and-white photo of himself and the actress to his Instagram Story on Apr. 15.

The couple reportedly began dating in September 2025 after they met at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sånchez's wedding in Venice, Italy in June of that year.

Sweeney was previously engaged to Jonathan Davino, a businessman and restaurateur from Chicago, but called off the engagement in March 2025.

An insider told People at the time that Sweeney and Davino’s relationship had been “rocky for a long time” and that she was prioritizing her career.

“Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects,” the source said last year. “What did make her overwhelmed, though, was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it.”

The insider added that the pair only lasted this long because it “was hard for her to break it off” and the split happened not because there was no love, but because Sweeney “just wants to focus on her career right now.”

Braun, for his part, was previously married to Yael Cohen from 2014 to 2022. The pair share three children.

Olympian Tara Lipinski Reveals ‘Devastating’ Family Update: ‘We Lost Our Baby’

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 3:12pm

Tara Lipinski announced that her surrogate suffered a miscarriage during the second trimester of her pregnancy with the Olympian and husband Todd Kapostasy’s second baby.

The retired figure skater, 43, revealed the heartbreaking update via Instagram on Friday, May 1.

“I didn’t think I was ready to share this yet,” she wrote. “If you’re part of this community, you know how sharing in the moment can break you. Sometimes just writing it down or saying it aloud makes it feel that much more real. It takes so much to pick yourself up and start over—and keep pushing. Putting blinders on can sometimes feel a little easier and doing it publicly always feels daunting.”

Despite her hesitation, Lipinski noted that others bravely speaking out about their fertility journeys encouraged her to do the same.

“But I did it once and I can do it again. I was sitting on the plane home from D.C. after speaking to legislators on Capitol Hill to advocate that IVF should be accessible to all, and I realized I had to do it,” she continued. “I was tearing up reading so many messages from women sharing their vulnerable stories and fears, I just knew now is the time.”

Lipinski then explained that her surrogate suffered a pregnancy loss while carrying her and Kapostasy’s second baby.

“A few months ago, we lost our baby in the second trimester,” she wrote. “We’ve been on our second surrogacy journey for two years now. Our first surrogate, who carried [daughter] Georgie, wasn’t medically cleared to proceed with our sibling journey. I grieved that ending and we started over. From the long road in finding a surrogate, to medical clearance setbacks, to a failed transfer, and now this loss
it hasn’t been an easy road.”

She added: “I feel incredibly lucky for the woman who carried our baby (our angel) who will always hold such a special place in my heart. And for our first surrogate, who has continued to support me from afar through this second journey. We will forever be connected.”

Amid her own heartbreak, Lipinski offered support to individuals facing similar circumstances.

“A second trimester loss was devastating,” she concluded. “Something new to add to the long list of heartbreaks we’ve endured on this fertility journey. Another memory that will be hard to erase. That appointment will be etched in my mind forever as well as all the steps that came after when a pregnancy is that far along. My heart goes out to all the people who have experienced miscarriage, baby loss and stillbirth. You are warriors. Reading so many of your stories has reminded me how important it is to share—even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.”

Lipinski has been forthcoming about her fertility struggles over the years. Outside of her surrogacy efforts, she has suffered multiple miscarriages and failed IVF transfers herself. She was ultimately diagnosed with endometriosis and underwent surgery for the condition.

In a pre-taped Today interview that aired on Friday, Lipinski detailed her plans to expand her family.

“We’re going to use surrogacy again,” she said, noting that she still has embryos remaining. “I joke
we’re going to use all five of those embryos.”

Lipinski and Kapostasy tied the knot in June 2017 and welcomed daughter Georgie via surrogate in October 2023.

There are three things guaranteed in the world today: Death, taxes, and Jeopardy! being on. Believe it or not, the iconic game show has been on the air for over 60 years (though the modern incarnation we know and love technically debuted in 1984). Under the watchful eye of Ken Jennings (who himself was a record-breaking champion), Jeopardy! puts three people's trivia skills and reflexes to the ultimate test. And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

The answer: What is a Granny Smith apple?

Only one contestant answered Final Jeopardy correctly. Perkins built a commanding lead, and a conservative wager of $2,200, despite a wrong answer, meant she still finished with $16,600 and the win. Hebbale wagered just $381 and was the only contestant to answer correctly, finishing with $6,381 in second place.

Brody went in with $2,800, wagering everything, and landing an incorrect answer for a $0 finisher, marking a bittersweet ending for the one-day champ.

Perkins will return on Monday to defend her title.

New High Noon Release Is a Big First for the Brand

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:59pm

High Noon just shared some pretty exciting news for fans of the hard seltzer.

As interest in the ready-to-drink category continues to grow with new competition, High Noon is "teeing up" with what it says is its first-ever flavor drop—one that's inspired by a popular cocktail order on the golf course.

"As the leading premium hard seltzer, High Noon has always led the category by showing up for the peak occasions of our fans' lives," Britt West, chief commercial officer at Gallo, the producer of High Noon, shared in a statement. "With our first-ever flavor drop, we're driving real excitement and urgency at retail in an increasingly crowded RTD space."

High Noon has previously offered limited-time flavors, but at launch, they were only available in a larger variety pack of its other hard seltzers. This time, High Noon is dropping a full pack of the new flavor, but only for a limited time (or so it says, after all, the company did make Kiwi and Raspberry permanent options in its Beach Pack after fans demanded their return).

Of all the flavors the company could have chosen, West suggests that the decision to mix up a Transfusion flavor was intentional and underscores the brand's "focus on winning in high-affinity occasions like the golf course, where consumers are seeking genuine refreshment—and where our real vodka and real juice proposition delivers in a way others can't."

High Noon Gets Its First Limited-Time Flavor Drop

According to an official description, High Noon Transfusion is made with real vodka and real juice to deliver a refreshing blend of grape, lime, and ginger in its classic Vodka Seltzer format.

To celebrate, High Noon said it will be launching a collaboration with Good Good Golf, featuring a line of branded driver covers, rope hats, and t-shirts. The hard seltzer brand also plans to have a "heavy presence" at PGA Tour events to ensure its Transfusion is "the drink of the season."

Where Will High Noon's Transfusion Flavor Be Available to Purchase?

According to Wednesday's announcement, it will be released in finite allocations by market, bringing the "scarcity-driven" release into High Noon's ready-to-drink space.

The limited-time drop will be single-flavor 6-packs (MSRP $14.99) at select retailers nationwide now, while supplies last.

Donald Trump Gushes Over 'Brave' Kate Middleton During Private Oval Office Interview

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:58pm

Donald Trump is a fan of Kate Middleton and had positive things to say about her during a private interview in the Oval Office.

Royal author Robert Hardman was invited by the president, 79, for an off-camera meeting during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s state visit, and he gave his unfiltered opinions about several members of the British royal family. Hardman, who wrote the highly anticipated biography Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story., gave his account of the conversation to the Daily Mail.

Trump asked how Kate, 44, was “doing,” before recalling his positive impression of her when they spent time together during Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom last year.

“She's so great,” Trump said. “She was sick, people said crazy things about her and she was so brave."

Trump was referring to Kate stepping out of the public eye in early 2024. Her absence from events caused wild conspiracy theories to circulate about her whereabouts before she publicly announced her cancer diagnosis.

In addition to Kate, Trump is also a fan of her husband, Prince William, whom he said “will be a good King.”

"He's very nice,” Trump continued. “A great guy. I like him."

Trump eagerly awaited Charles, 77, and Camilla’s four-day trip to America. The state visit was to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, as well as ease tensions amid the countries' disagreements on several world issues, including the Russian-Ukrainian war and the conflict in Iran. Trump is known to be a fan of the royal family, specifically the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II, and he wondered if Hardman approved of the slate of activities that were planned for the monarch and queen consort.

"We've done a good job with the King, right?” Trump asked the royal expert. “He's a great guy, he really is."

Although the president has positive impressions of the working senior royals, he gave his unfiltered opinion about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during his conversation with Hardman.

RELATED: King Charles and Princess Diana Started This Iconic Royal Tradition During Their 1981 Wedding

The royal biographer admitted to the president that it was “highly unlikely” that Harry, 41, would make a “comeback” with the royal family. Trump replied, “Too many things, I guess," before giving his thoughts on Markle, 44.

"That wife of his. Boy, what she's done to that guy,” Trump said. “I guess she got blocked out by William's wife."

Hardman’s account did not elaborate or give context to what Trump meant in his comparison of the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales.

TV Host Ranked Among 'Best Interviewers' Made First Broadcast 69 Years Ago Today

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:48pm

It's hard to pick which of Larry King's distinguished guests offered the most memorable interview — from Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X to Martha Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld.

If you're not too familiar with the late TV host, many of his famed sit-downs can be found on YouTube and other streamers. King is said to have interviewed more than 50,000 people on-air during his reign at CNN and beyond — and it can all be traced back to an entirely different medium.

"It started May 1, 1957, on a little radio station in Miami," King told CBS in 2007 amid his 50-year on-air celebration.

That means Friday, May 1 marks 69 years since the Larry King Live host made his first-ever radio broadcast, which paved the way to his decorated career.

The Emmy winner was born in New York but moved to Miami by the late 1950s to find work in radio broadcasting. He was reportedly doing maintenance work at a small station when an announcers quit, and King was put on the air as a disc jockey, according to his online biography.

Just before going on the air, the manager reportedly asked him to change his name to something less ethnic — so the legend chose King after apparently seeing an ad in The Miami Herald for a liquor store. The rest is history.

On January 23, 2021, it was announced on King’s Twitter that he had passed away at the age of 87.

“With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host, and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” read the post. “For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster. Additionally, while it was his name appearing in the shows’ titles, Larry always viewed his interview subjects as the true stars of his programs, and himself as merely an unbiased conduit between the guest and audience.”

1972 Classic Rock Hit Was Released 54 Years Ago Today

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:15pm

The Eagles' hit "Take It Easy" turned 54 on May 1, 2026. The beloved track, off the band's first record, 1972's Eagles, was originally a single that came out a month before the album, as reported by Best Classic Bands.

Jackson Browne, who collaborated with the Eagles, and the band's late singer, Glenn Frey, penned the rock classic, which evokes images of a man traveling while trying to ignore issues within his life, romantic and otherwise.

In an interview for his 1994 documentaryJackson Browne: Going Home, Browne discussed coming up with the song. Browne explained that he "had started to write" the tune, knowing Frey was interested in it.

He said that after Frey had repeatedly asked him to give him a finalized version of "Take It Easy," he allowed the singer, who died in 2016 at the age of 67, to complete the tune. Browne shared that Frey wrote the verse wherein the narrator excitedly shares he's being looked at by a woman driving a Ford flatbed truck in Winslow, Arizona.

"I mean that's like a real, you know, that's a transformation made right there. I mean I dug the fact that all these women in Arizona were driving trucks. That appealed to me," said Browne.

The "Doctor My Eyes" singer also complimented Frey's arrangement of the song.

"He had the four great singers, this huge bank of voices that could come in and he had that to work with and when they worked out the song and suddenly had this ... arrangement sense that was just so great," said Browne in his documentary.

Billboard reported that Browne sang "Take It Easy" shortly after Frey died at a June 2016 concert. While speaking to the audience, he explained the song's significance in his and Frey's friendship.

“Here’s a song that I’ve been singing every night for a while. I didn’t always sing it because it was such a famous song, I figured, you know, if people heard me sing it they’d come away thinking, ‘nah, and then he sang an Eagles cover,'" said Browne to his fans, per Billboard. “I wrote this song with Glenn Frey. It’s a song that I started, but I didn’t finish it. Even if I had finished it by myself, it wouldn’t be the song that it is and it wouldn’t be the song that we all love."

1984 Comedy Still Ranks Among the Best of the ’80s, and It Changed Movies Forever

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:15pm

More than 40 years after its release, This Is Spinal Tap is experiencing a renewed surge in popularity. Driven by a theatrical re-release, a new sequel, and fresh attention to the film following the death of Rob Reiner, new and old fans alike are once again raving over the movie.

The cult 1980s comedy helped pioneer the "mockumentary" format, a style that initially confused audiences upon its 1984 debut. However, what once puzzled viewers is now widely seen as the movie's greatest strength.

The film and its mockumentary style have gone on to shape television comedies such as The Office and Parks and Recreation, both of which incorporated the documentary-style storytelling seen in This Is Spinal Tap.

In July 2025, the cult favorite film returned to movie theaters for a limited run to celebrate the 41st anniversary of its release.

A sequel, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, debuted in theaters in September 2025, further renewing interest in the cult favorite comedy.

Another project, Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, was filmed before Reiner's death. Its release is currently on hold.

Reiner reflected on the film's early reception as he talked to AARP shortly before his death. "People thought it was a real documentary," He said. "We were making fun of rock stars and documentaries. People didn't understand it."

Over time, that confusion has turned into appreciation. Today, many fans regularly share their favorite lines from the film.

"These go to eleven" is one of the most recognizable lines from the film, while "It's such a fine line between stupid and... clever" is another.

The life philosophy of keyboard player Viv Savage, "Have a good time, all the time," is an additional crowd-pleaser.

Getty

On Reddit and other online communities, This Is Spinal Tap continues to generate enthusiastic discourse among avid movie fans.

"I still can't believe this movie is older than me yet the humour and mockumentary style is very modern and still hilarious," one fan recently raved in a movie subreddit.

Another Reddit user wrote that the movie was "11/10 for me...Its subtlety is its brilliance."

"It's one of the best comedy movies of all time," someone else declared in a discussion about Reiner's legacy.

Even decades later, This Is Spinal Tap remains a fixture on "greatest comedy" lists, with fans as passionate about their love for the movie as they ever were.

Meryl Streep Reveals the 'Beef' She Had With Goldie Hawn on Set of 'Death Becomes Her'

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:08pm

Meryl Streepis revisiting some of her best classic films, including some of the on set annoyances that occurred in the process.

In a video with Vanity Fair shared on Thursday, April 30, the actress rewatched scenes from her highlight reel, including the hit film Death Becomes Her. After viewing the shovel scene with actress Goldie Hawn, Streep (who starred as Madeline Ashton) spilled some details about Hawn—mainly her punctuality.

“Goldie, she was always late to set, but she was so adorable,” Streep revealed of her costar, who played Helen Sharp in the film. “And I’m always on time, you know, and annoying. But she’s late and she had a red convertible
and she’d drive herself to set. And so that was probably the problem.”

Streep, 76, continued, mimicking Hawn, 80, and flipping her hair and apologizing. “Yeah, so I had a beef with her, but I loved her,” she noted. “She’s one of my buddies
over the years we’ve had some laughs about that movie because people love it.”

And Streep’s “beef” streak didn’t stop there. She recently found herself at the center of another playful moment, this time involving Travis Kelce. While promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2, The oscar-winning actress joked about one of the film’s challenges, saying, “The hardest thing about shooting in Milan was walking in stilettos on the cobblestones. I'd like to see Travis Kelce do that.”

Kelce, 36, later addressed the comment on his New Heights podcast a few days later, making it clear he wasn’t looking to take on the Oscar winner. “I hope she doesn't have beef with me! That’s a powerful woman right there. I'm a fan of Meryl Streep. I don't have any beef with her,” he said, before joking, “Oh, Meryl, you have no idea how good I am at walking in heels. Okay?”

Streep is reprising her role as Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada 2, which was released on Friday, May 1.

In 1996, Jerry Maguire was one of the top-grossing films of the year. Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, the Academy Award-winning film followed the complicated relationship between commitment-phobe sports agent Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) and single mom Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger). The two fall for each other while trying to make a new business venture work with their only client, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.).

Jerry Maguire was named one of the 100 greatest love stories by the American Film Institute (AFI). The organization also noted that the film was named among the great sports movies, with two of its most famous quotes featured among “the greatest lines of American cinema."

On the AFI website, Gooding’s character’s line “Show me the money” was named the 25th greatest movie quote of all time, while Zellweger’s “You had me at ‘hello'" was No. 52.

‘You complete me’

Those weren’t the only two quotable lines. Near the end of the film, desperate to get his wife back after she tells him she needs more than he’s willing to give her, Cruise’s Maguire shows up wearing his heart on his sleeve. After a spiel about how much he misses her, he tells Dorothy,  “You complete me.” That’s  when she shushes him and says, “You had me at hello.”

Cruise actually begged Crowe to keep his “you complete me" line in the script. In a retrospective shared by Refinery 29, Crowe revealed that he got the line from the 1974 Joni Mitchell song, "Court and Spark." The screenwriter started to second-guess including the sentimental line in Jerry Maguire, but Cruise begged him to keep it in.

"I said, 'Cameron, please. I love this writing.' I said, 'Give me a shot, and if you don't like it then edit it [out]. But I at least want to act it [out],” Cruise recalled.

Thirty years later, fans still recite the famous Jerry Maguire catchphrases. Speaking with Today, Jerry O’Connell, who played football star Cush in the film, noted, “I think it’s a real quotable movie.
movies today, they’re not that quotable. You know what I’m saying?”

“I mean, like, how many quotes came out of Jerry Maguire?” the actor continued. “‘You had me at hello.’ I can’t tell you how many people yell ‘Show me the money’ at me. People yell ‘My word is stronger than oak.’ ‘I just want to play football’ will be yelled at me all the time. And that’s all Cameron Crowe, man. He wrote those words. Tell me a more quotable movie.”

Matt Dinniman Wrote ‘Operation Bounce House’ and ‘The Inevitable Ruin’ at the Same Time — And He Shares How! [Exclusive]

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:05pm

If you’ve not read any of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman yet, then you need to start right now. This LitRPG book series brings dystopian sci-fi into a video game world, full of AI, showrunners, and events wilder than your imagination can take you.

Of course, with seven books out already and the eighth on its way on May 12, 2026, that’s a lot to work through. Operation Bounce House is a great place to start if you want to get an sense of Dinniman’s writing. It’s a standalone novel — and yes, there will only be one — and you can get it right now.

Initially self-published, Dinniman has been jotting down ideas for novels for years. In fact, the idea for Operation Bounce House came long before the novel series that has put him on the map.

“I have a list that I started literally when I was in middle school, and the idea for Operation Bounce House is a sentence: settlers being evicted by people on Earth, who aren’t really there. I think that’s what it said. That idea is older than Dungeon Crawler Carl, which was a sentence: Man stuck on Alien game show.”

As the success of Dungeon Crawler Carl grew, publishers started to take note. Penguin Random House was the one to get the rights to the physical copies, and it’s because of them that the standalone novel on another planet became a fully-fleshed out novel, “I didn’t actually write it until the beginning of 2025. When I sold [the physical version of] Dungeon Crawler Carl to Penguin Random House, they asked if I had any other ideas, and my agent and I talked about a few different ideas. They wanted Operation Bounce House, so I wrote that concurrently with Dungeon Crawler Carl7.”

Writing them at the same time wasn’t an easy thing to do. For those who don’t know, he’s a pantser rather than a planner, so he had to figure out how to write the two novels together.

Penguin Random House

He continued sharing with Parade, “I could never write in the same session. I would go to a coffee shop and write one book, and then I’d go to a completely different location to write the next book.” It was something he never thought would be possible, but he made it work.

That being said, he’s always amazed by others who can write multiple books at the same time, without using his own tricks, “I have a lot of friends who write three, four, five different books at the same time, and it blows my mind.”

If you can’t sit down and read the books, the audio version is available. Now, this is one of my favorite ways to consume books, as I walk dogs a lot — three huskies in this house! — but this is also a world of creativity that is perfect for the audio experience.

It turns out that the audio sales contribute in a large amount to the total purchase, much more than most other books, and yet, readers will still buy the physical copies. One of the best things is that platforms are making it easier to read and listen at the same time. Spotify’s latest Page Match system, which allows people to seamlessly switch between the audio version and their physical or digital books. It’s the first system of its kind, available on both iOS and Android, and is more than worth checking out!

“This style of story — LitRPGs — have always worked for audio. I always knew that the audiobooks would be a higher percentage of sales, especially with the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I would say more than 90% of readers have listened to the audio, which is a really high number, but they’ll still buy the physical copies because they want show trophies.”

It makes sense that the audiobooks are flying off the virtual shelves. Jeff Hays does the voices for everyone in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series — yes, including the female voices — and that’s not about to change. He does a phenomenal job, with Dinniman sharing his own praise, saying, “He’s very good at what he does, and he’s naturally talented. He reads it and understands what is happening, and he has a million voices stuck in that crazy little head of his.”

Hays is no stranger to doing different accents, either, which is something Dinniman now has fun thinking about. He wants to make things as difficult as possible, “I do it to f–k with him all the time,” making their friendship clear.

Ace Books

The eighth book is going to have a character who only speaks Danish, and that means some difficult words. While the Icelandic character from previous books was one thing, Dinniman went a step further to test Hays, sharing, “I asked my Danish friends for some really difficult phrases for Americans just to mess with him, and he’s killing it!”

It turns out that it’s not just his friends who help with the development of the story. As mentioned, Dinniman was a self-published author first, and one of the ways he built his community of loyal readers was through his Patreon account. Via that, readers get the opportunity to vote on parts of the book. This is never going to be the arc or the things Carl or Princess Donut do or say, but readers can help to shape some of the outside elements, such as the items in their gift boxes.

I had to ask how that worked considering he’s a panster, and it turns out that it’s one of his favorite parts of the process, “I have to sit down and think about how I am going to get myself out of that
It’s why Carl is as insane as he is, because they come up with these solutions that make sense to the world and the story.”

For those who are wondering, there is an end goal in sight, and it’s coming a little sooner than you may think. After all, we know there are 18 floors to the dungeon, and A Parade of Horribles, which is out on May 12, 2026, will start them on the 10th floor with the focus on moving to the 11th.

You would think that there are a good five or six more books to go, right? Well, that’s where you’d be wrong, as there is a plan to stop at 10. One of the reasons he said there were 18 floors was to give him an end point, as he could have just kept writing.

It’s not that he is bored of writing this series, but there is so much more that he wants to write, “Operation Bounce House is a good example. I had so much fun writing it, and it’s another story in another world that’s not connected. There’s only so many books I can write in a lifetime, and I want to write so many, so I want to be able to step outside of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.”

I did get confirmation that Operation Bounce House will remain a one-book story, and that there is a chance that another standalone story could be on its way, and it could delve into another genre, “My No. 1 priority right now is Dungeon Crawler Carl 9, but I will probably have another standalone. We’re not sure exactly which one to do right now. I might try something more into fantasy rather than the sci-fi realm, but we’ll see.”

For now, readers (and listeners!) can prepare to get ready for the eighth book in the series, A Parade of Horribles, and we’ll continue to keep an eye out for the latest news and updates about other releases.

Donald Trump Gives Unfiltered Thoughts About Prince Harry's Potential 'Comeback' During Private Oval Office Meeting

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 2:04pm

Donald Trump gave his unfiltered opinion about the British royal family, including the idea of Prince Harry making a “comeback" to Buckingham Palace.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman was invited to a private meeting at the White House by Trump, 79, during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s US state visit, and the author recounted their candid conversation to Daily Mail.

"So, can Harry make a comeback?" Trump asked Hardman, who admitted it was "highly unlikely" that the Duke of Sussex, 41, would find his way back into the royal fold.

"Too many things, I guess,” Trump said before commenting on Meghan Markle. "That wife of his. Boy, what she's done to that guy ... I guess she got blocked out by William's wife."

Hardman did not elaborate or give further context on what Trump meant by Kate Middleton “blocking out” the Duchess of Sussex, 44.

This is not the first time Trump has made comments about Harry and his wife. The Duke left the royal family in 2020 and relocated to California with Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Harry said in 2024 that he had “no plans” to become a US citizen, but his immigration status is the subject of litigation. The Heritage Foundation alleges that he may have concealed past illegal drug use, and he should be disqualified from obtaining a US visa.

Trump was asked in February 2025 if he planned to boot the former senior royal out of the country, which he said he didn’t “want to do that.”

“I’ll leave him alone,” Trump told The New York Post. “He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

Despite his mixed opinions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Trump had glowing reviews for the rest of the royal family during his private meeting with Hardman. The President is a well-documented fan of the royal family, as was his Scottish-born mother, and he even has Queen Elizabeth II’s final portrait hanging in his Mar-a-Lago home.

"We've done a good job with the King, right?” Trump asked Hardman about Charles’ four-day trip around the US. “He's a great guy, he really is."

Trump also noted he thinks Prince William, 44, will be a “good King” when he ascends to the throne, adding, "He's very nice. A great guy. I like him.”

The President also enjoyed his time getting to know Middleton, 44, whom he met during last year's state banquet in the U.K.

"How's she doing? She's so great. She was sick, people said crazy things about her and she was so brave," Trump said, in reference to the Princess of Wales in 2024 when conspiracy theories swirled about her whereabouts before she revealed her cancer diagnosis.

Spirit Airlines Might Shut Down as Early as This Weekend, and This Is Exactly What It Means for Your Ticket

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 1:46pm

The budget airline industry just hit some major turbulence. Spirit Airlines is making plans to shut down operations as soon as this Saturday, barring a last-minute rescue, according to reports confirmedFriday by CBS News and The Wall Street Journal. The closure would mark a stunning collapse for an airline that, despite its reputation for bare-bones service and extra fees, had made travel accessible to millions of budget-conscious travelers.

Spirit has already filed for bankruptcy twice in less than a year, and negotiations over a $500 million federal bailout fell apart after major bondholders refused to accept the terms. Meanwhile, Spirit's cash reserves—already depleted by years of pandemic losses, failed merger attempts, and mounting debt—have dwindled to days' worth of operating funds.  Rising jet fuel costs tied to the war in Iran appear to have been the nail in the coffin, pushing the airline past its breaking point.

President Trump told reporters Friday he's still considering a potential taxpayer takeover, but only "if it's a good deal." Still, his administration signaled there would be no last-minute rescue effort, and Trump gave Spirit a "final proposal" with an announcement expected Friday or Saturday. Spirit has declined to comment so far, only stating that business is still operating “as usual.”

What This Means for Travelers

If you have a Spirit ticket, act today. The airline is still operating as of Friday and accepting bookings, but that could change at any moment.

  • First, download your boarding pass and save your confirmation number somewhere offline. Airline websites often disappear during shutdowns, and you'll need documentation for credit card disputes or bankruptcy claims. Start researching alternative flights immediately. Summer fares are already sky high across the industry due to fuel costs, and waiting means paying even more.
  • If you paid by credit card, that'll be your best bet to getting your money back. Call your card issuer and ask what they can do if the airline shuts down and flights are cancelled. Some credit card benefits include protection for airline failures, though many policies specifically exclude insolvencies, so be sure to ask. Travel insurance often also won’t cover airline bankruptcies, so review your specific policy immediately.
  • If you're already stranded somewhere, contact other airlines directly. Historically, some carriers have offered discounted rescue fares during shutdowns, though there's no guarantee—especially given the entire industry's struggle with fuel costs.
  • As a last resort, you can file a claim in bankruptcy court, but don't count on it. Passengers typically rank near the bottom of creditor priorities, and reimbursements are slow and limited.

The Bigger Picture

Spirit's collapse would hit hardest at smaller airports where they fly out of most often and would affect all travelers. Losing Spirit's ultra-low fares means higher ticket prices across the board as fellow airlines start raising their basic economy prices.

The airline's over 10,000 employees face sudden job losses amid a hiring slowdown.

For now, stay updated. Check your email and the Spirit Airlines app obsessively. Decisions could come within days.

Will Ferrell Says He Set Up Shop at a Flea Market — Here's What He's Selling

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 1:25pm

If you thought you saw Will Ferrellat the Rose Bowl Flea Market recently, maybe you did.

The actor recently revealed he’s been setting up shop at the popular swap meet—held on the second Sunday of every month—in Pasadena, CA. “I’ve been selling t-shirts at the Rose Bowl Swap Meet,” Ferrell, 58, revealed on the Harland Highway podcast in March.

And that’s not all he’s got up his sleeve. “T-shirts and ukuleles
they're t-shirts that I thrift. I find them, I get them and then I up-sell them,” Ferrell stated. “[I have] a little table, ukuleles and t-shirts. I clean up. I do pretty well.”

When asked by host Harland Williams how much the comedian makes in a weekend, Ferrell confidently said, “A couple hundy.”

While many fans were suspicious this was just a joke, the Old Town Pasadena Instagram account shared the clip. “Catch Will Ferrell at the Pasadena flea market selling T-shirts at his booth like it’s the most normal thing in the world 😂,” they wrote in the caption.

“Is he be serious or is he joking? Bc you never know with him lol,” one fan asked.

Another questioned, “Is this to get people to go back to the rose bowl flea? Because I’m sold. And so are his shirts and ukulele.”

“I have not seen him there. Lol,” said a third.

Bit or not, Ferrell has been keeping busy. The show, which was created by Ferrell and backed by the PGA Tour, follows a once-dominant pro golfer chasing one final comeback.

The series is expected to premiere this summer and will span 10 episodes, with a cast that includes Molly Shannon, Luke Wilson, and Fortune Feimster.

These Are the Most Common COVID-19 Symptoms Doctors Are Seeing Right Now

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 1:25pm

While cold and flu season is nearing its end for this cycle, COVID-19 is still lurking about and messing with our spring and summer plans six years post-pandemic—on top of seasonal allergies for those sensitive to pollen.

Allergy season can make COVID particularly tricky, because a lot of allergy symptoms—think congestion, runny nose, headache, coughing and sore throat—can mimic those of COVID-19, giving some a false sense of safety amid their discomfort: You may assume your nose is stuffy because you ate lunch in your garden on a warm day, when in actuality, you may be sick and at risk of spreading germs and viruses to others.

While most people with healthy immune systems will find that having coronavirus is crummy, for immunocompromised people, older people and individuals with other conditions that can lead to complications, it can be quite dangerous.

To protect those people, as well as yourself, pay close attention to the COVID symptoms that doctors are observing most in May 2026—and find out how to feel better fast.

Related: How Long Does Natural Immunity Actually Last After a Spring COVID Infection?

What Are the Most Common COVID-19 Symptoms in May 2026?

There is at least some good news here, according to Dr. Tyler Evans, MD, infectious disease specialist and founder and CEO of Wellness Equity Alliance.

"The 2026 COVID-19 presentation looks much more like an upper respiratory infection (URI or ‘common cold’) than the deep lung illness we saw in 2020," Dr. Evans tells Parade. "The most common symptoms right now are sore throat—often quite intense—along with nasal congestion, cough, fatigue, headache and low-grade fever."

Related: Doctors Say This Common Habit During COVID Recovery Could Be Making You Sicker

Photo by Guido Mieth on Getty Images

More good news? You'll likely still have your sense of taste and smell if you get a COVID infection now.

"Body aches, chills and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea and diarrhea show up in a smaller share of cases," Dr. Evans adds. "The honest truth is that without a test, you cannot reliably distinguish a current COVID-19 infection from the common cold. In fact, COVID-19 will increasingly be thought of as the constellation of viruses that contribute to the common cold."

"Fun fact: Prior to the pandemic, the alpha-coronavirus (which is different from beta, which causes COVID-19), represented up to 20% of respiratory infections," Dr. Evans notes. "Nevertheless, the symptoms have converged. That is why if someone in a high-risk category gets sick, I tell them to test early rather than guess."

"Interestingly, with the Stratus variant, we have anecdotally seen patients presenting with a sore throat more than previous strains," Dr. Michael J. Davis, DO, MPH, infectious disease specialist at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., tells Parade.

Dr. Steven Goldberg, MD, MBA,primary care physician and chief medical officer at HealthTrackRx, breaks it down numerically: "Across multiple large prospective studies, the five most frequently reported symptoms during Omicron-lineage infections have been cough (approximately 94%), sputum/congestion (approximately 88%), sore throat (approximately 86%), runny nose (approximately 85%) and lethargy (approximately 81%)."

According to Dr. Joseph Bresee, MD, director of the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives at the Task Force for Global Health, "Some individuals will become more severely ill, experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Children are more likely to have GI symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting."

Dr. Bresee, like yours truly, wants to remind you that COVID is not a cold, especially to vulnerable individuals. "Remember, COVID-19 can be serious," he says. "If you have trouble breathing, see a health care provider because the virus can cause pneumonia and life-threatening illness. If you have a chronic illness, like lung disease, and you become ill, call your doctor to see if you need a prescription for medicines to treat COVID-19."

What Are the Most Common COVID-19 Variants Right Now?

"As of late April, the dominant variants in the United States are XFG, also known as Stratus, and its descendants like XFG.1.1, along with NB.1.8.1, called Nimbus," Dr. Evans tells Parade. "Both are part of the Omicron family. The variant attracting the most attention is BA.3.2, nicknamed "Cicada," which carries multiple spike protein mutations that suggest potential immune escape properties. While Cicada is climbing in wastewater data, it has not yet displaced Stratus or Nimbus and current evidence does not indicate more severe disease outcomes."

That doesn't mean it's harmless, however. "The concern lies not in immediate severity but in its capacity to evade existing immunity, potentially undermining protection from previous infections and vaccinations," Dr. Evans points out. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) genomic surveillance has been substantially reduced over the past year, so our picture of what is circulating is genuinely less precise than it was two years ago. That matters. Surveillance is the early-warning system, and we are flying with fewer instruments."

How Can I Protect Myself from COVID-19?

For the love of Pete, please get vaccinated!

Dr. Snehal Smart, MD, patient advocate at the Mesothelioma Center, says, "The COVID vaccines significantly reduce the number of COVID cases; protect people at high risk, such as cancer patients and immunocompromised individuals and can create herd immunity if enough of the population has gained protection against this virus."

Dr. Smart is far from alone. Literally every medical expert with whom we spoke recommends vaccines and boosters to protect not just you, but everyone you come into contact with, from severe COVID infections.

"COVID vaccines remain extremely effective at preventing you from serious illness [that can lead to] hospitalization and/or progression to death," Dr. Shruti Gohil, MD, MPH, associate medical director of epidemiology and infection prevention at UCI Health, explains. "This includes protection against the current strains."

And another!

"COVID vaccines are still VERY IMPORTANT," Dr. Andrew Benin, MD, primary care physician and co-founder of BeninMed, tells Parade, emphasis his own. "They're not designed to completely stop infections, but they have been proven to significantly reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death. In my opinion, that's the most important thing, especially for our elderly patients and immunocompromised population which is ever growing. Vaccination is still one of the highest yield preventions that we have."

What’s the Quickest Way To Get Rid of COVID Symptoms?

Obviously, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the old adage goes, so just in case we didn't convince you already, we'll let Dr. Carlos Zambrano, MD, infectious disease specialist at Loretto Hospital in Chicago, explain.

"Vaccination and staying up to date on boosters remain the best protection against COVID, especially for people who are older or who have chronic health conditions," Dr. Zambrano advises. "If someone does get sick, supportive care is important. This includes drinking plenty of fluids, getting adequate rest, and using over-the-counter medications to help with fever and body aches. Antiviral treatment such as Paxlovid may also be recommended by a doctor depending on the person’s health history and risk factors."

Related: The Common Mistake That Increases Your Risk of Catching COVID Twice This Season

How Long Should I Isolate if I Test Positive for COVID-19?

If you have COVID symptoms, Dr. Smith says, "This has changed since the five-day rule and, in general, follows a standard symptom approach. Stay home and away from others until your symptoms improve and you have no fevers for 24 hours."

If you're asymptomatic but test positive, Dr. Smith says, the advice is similar.

"This is a little trickier, but it really is the same as the last, which is symptom-based," he says. "They suggest the same as above after symptoms improve and no fevers: Masking, distancing, ventilation, staying away from those vulnerable and additional testing."

Dr. Zambrano advises that even if you're asymptomatic, if you test positive, wear a mask for 10 days (from your test date) when you're around others. Remember, their lives are just as valuable as yours!

Adrian Grenier Is Back With a Grilled Cheese Challenge—and the Prize Is Massive

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 1:25pm

If you needed a reason to take grilled cheese a little more seriously, Adrian Grenier just gave you one—and it comes with a prize that's hard to ignore.

Grenier, best known for his roles in the HBO series Entourage and the cult-classic movie The Devil Wears Prada, has spent recent years leaning into a more sustainable lifestyle, including farming, making his new partnership feel like a natural extension of his off-screen interests.

The actor has teamed up with Jarlsberg for a new campaign celebrating the art of the perfect melt, and it's not just about nostalgia or comfort food. It's a full-on challenge.

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

At the center of the campaign is a contest called the #JarlsbergMelt, which challenges fans to get creative and rethink what a great grilled cheese can be.

The #JarlsbergMelt Puts Your Grilled Cheese to the Test

Grenier and the brand are inviting fans to put their own spin on a grilled cheese and share it for a chance to win something wildly over-the-top: a massive 22-pound wheel of Jarlsberg cheese.

Yes, 22 pounds!

According to Jarlsberg, that's enough cheese to make more than 100 grilled cheese sandwiches, turning a simple social challenge into something closer to a summer-long meal plan. The idea is straightforward. Make your best grilled cheese, post it, and you're in the running.

The campaign officially kicks off May 4 and is designed to spotlight what makes a grilled cheese actually great. For Grenier, it comes down to ingredients. He emphasizes the importance of quality cheese and specifically cites Jarlsberg's meltability and nutty flavor as key to elevating the sandwich.

Why Jarlsberg Is Built for the Perfect Melt View this post on Instagram

Jarlsberg's reputation for meltability stems from its texture and composition, which allow it to soften evenly while maintaining a smooth, creamy consistency. That balance is what makes it a natural fit for something like grilled cheese, where both structure and flavor matter.

"Something as simple as grilled cheese becomes next level with the right cheese, and the meltability and nutty taste of Jarlsberg are still unmatched in my book," said Adrian Grenier in a statement. "I strongly believe in natural, high-quality ingredients, and as I learned more about the brand, I was also struck by their commitment to quality."

According to Shibani Potnis, the chief marketing officer for Norseland Inc., the company behind Jarlsberg US, "This collaboration is a celebration of Jarlsberg and the endless creativity of grilled cheese lovers."

The push also comes at a milestone moment for the brand. Celebrating 70 years of meltability this year, Jarlsberg has become a familiar part of grilled cheese traditions for generations. Its signature flavor and distinct holes trace back to a closely guarded Norwegian recipe known to only a few.

Why This Challenge Could Take Off

Grilled cheese is one of those rare foods that almost everyone thinks they've mastered. The challenge pushes people to rethink what "perfect" actually looks like, whether that's dialing in the crunch, layering flavors, or just going bigger than usual.

It also taps into something bigger happening right now. Simple foods are getting a second life through social challenges and creative twists. The barrier to entry is low, the payoff is visual, and the format calls for creative experimentation.

Which means things could get interesting.

Expect Everything From Classic to Over-the-Top

Because while the rules are simple—make a grilled cheese, share it, tag it—the competition probably won't be. Expect everything from ultra-classic versions to stacked, over-the-top builds designed to win on sheer spectacle.

And with a 22-pound wheel of cheese on the line, there's a real incentive to go all in.
