26 Years Later, Remembering the Roskilde Festival Tragedy That Took Nine Lives During Pearl Jam's Performance
On Friday, June 30th 2000, nine people lost their lives at a Pearl Jam concert at the annual Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark. 26 years on, we remember the tragedy which changed the band and music festivals forever.
An initial report published in December 2000 found that "a chain of unfortunate circumstances" led to the deaths after bad sound quality encouraged the crowd to push to the front. Sadly, Billboard reports, 43 people were injured, eight young men aged 17-26 suffocated in the crowd, and a ninth man died five days later in hospital.
During the show, frontman Eddie Vedder tried to get the crowd to stop pushing forward, but it was sadly too late. Vedder reflects on the tragedy in his book, I Am Mine, "We all had to process something that we all went through as individuals, but also with the help of each other."
Per Louder, the legendary frontman explained how he stayed in Europe after the Danish tragedy as a way to cope. "[I] had my own way of getting through it, which was taking Spanish guitar lessons from people who didn’t speak English. That was just a way to focus and be around people that I couldn’t understand for the most part. That way I was able to be around people, but since I didn’t really know what they were saying, it felt very peaceful and calm.”
A second investigation, published in the summer of 2002, found “there is no reason to presume that something punishable has been done.”
Rasmus Thirup Beck, a journalist who attended the Pearl Jam concert, shared his memories with Danish TV on the 25th anniversary:
"At some point, we see on the big screen that a completely lifeless body is lifted up over the barrier, and another one a little later and so on. We were completely shaken, and people began to cry around us and so on. We did not know what had happened. We only knew that something really bad had happened."
On the 20th anniversary, the band made a touching post remembering the lives of all those lost. “A normal festival show day…show up 5 hours ahead. Wait for your slot. I barely remember it…” the post reads. “Sunny, I think. Lou Reed played, I think. Then rain and wind. But nothing has been the same since," the 2000 post by the Grunge icons read.
A memorial sculpture to those lost at the festival sits at the ground, engraved with the words "how fragile we are", with nine trees planted around it.
Pearl Jam's 2002 album Riot Act, features a song called 'Arc,' which is a wordless tribute to the young men whose lives were lost. The band have only played the song live nine times.

Holland America Line Upgrades the Ultimate Alaska Adventure With New Lodging and Free Land Dining Packages
If taking a trip to Alaska is sitting right at the top of your travel wish list, you probably already know that the classic way to do it is a "land-and-sea" package.
You spend a few days cruising past majestic glaciers, and then you hop a glass-domed train into the wilderness for a land tour of Denali National Park.
It’s an incredible experience, but if you talk to anyone who has done it, they’ll usually give you one piece of honest advice: while the cruise portion is totally seamless, the land side can feel like a logistical puzzle—especially when it comes to booking comfortable hotels and budgeting for meals near the park.
Holland America Line is actively tackling that exact pain point. In preparation for their milestone 80th anniversary of exploring Alaska in 2027, the cruise line is pouring $70 million into a massive, multi-year renovation of its flagship property, the Holland America Denali Lodge.
The goal is to bring the easy, upscale comfort of their ships straight into the rugged Alaskan interior. Whether you’re a retiree mapping out a milestone getaway or planning a multi-generational family trip, here is what these massive updates mean for your next adventure.

Holland America Line
Brand-New Rooms and an Easier Way to ExploreThe Denali Lodge is a sprawling 60-acre property tucked right into the foothills of the national park along the Nenana River. While parts of the property have already been refreshed, the final phase of the $70 million project will be completely finished in time for the summer 2027 season.
The biggest structural upgrade is the complete removal of some of the property's older guest structures to make way for two brand-new, modern hotel buildings. This adds 72 fresh, updated rooms to the lodge, meaning it will be significantly easier to snag a reservation during peak summer travel weeks. The main lodge building is also getting a complete interior redesign to give it a warmer, more contemporary feel.
If you just want to stretch your legs and take in the scenery without booking a heavy-duty excursion, they’ve also completely overhauled the property's riverside interpretive trail, adding brand-new scenic viewing platforms and much clearer trail signs so you can wander safely right along the water.

A Massive Focus on Real Local FlavorsLet’s be honest: lodge and stadium food can sometimes feel a bit generic. To fix that, Holland America brought in Pacific Northwest culinary ambassador Chef Ethan Stowell to completely rewrite the menus across the property's restaurants, shifting the focus to authentic, locally sourced ingredients.
Instead of standard hotel fare, the menus are now packed with regional flavors. Depending on where you grab a table, you'll find dishes like fresh Alaskan halibut fish and chips, grilled sockeye salmon BLTs, Dungeness crab cakes, and alder-smoked salmon chowder. Even the casual grab-and-go spots got an upgrade: the property is opening a fully renovated Grizzly Grindcoffee shop alongside a new concept called Outpost Coffee + Provisions, which serves up quick fuel like smoked salmon bagel sandwiches and reindeer sausage with Beecher’s cheddar.

The Booking Trick That Eliminates the Food Budget StressPerhaps the most practical news for travelers planning a 2027 trip is how Holland America is handling the cost of land-based dining. Traditionally, when you step off a cruise ship and onto a land tour, your built-in meal plan ends, leaving you to pay out of pocket for breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the lodges and on the trains. It’s an extra expense that can quickly catch families by surprise.
To mark the 80th anniversary, the line is introducing a new "Cruisetour Dining Package" for the 2027 season. If you book your land-and-sea trip early using their "Have It All" promotional bonus, this dining package is thrown in completely free.
It covers your breakfast and dinner at their signature properties—including the Denali Lodge, the Skagway Inn and the Dawson City Inn—plus your lunch right on board the glass-domed McKinley Explorer railway cars. It even bundles in tickets to the Music of Denali dinner theater. For a long holiday itinerary (which ranges anywhere from nine to 17 nights), having your meals seamlessly taken care of on land just like they are at sea takes a massive amount of stress out of the budgeting process.
Planning a massive trip to the Great Land is all about soaking in the wildlife and the scenery without sweating the small stuff. By upgrading the base camp experience and removing the guesswork around dining, these updates make it a whole lot easier to just sit back and enjoy the view.

Original ‘Supergirl’ Star Helen Slater, 62, Is a Natural Beauty as She Checks Out the New Film Version
Helen Slater, who rose to fame as the original Supergirl, is thriving at 62 after a major career pivot.
The beauty, 62, rose to fame in the British superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. In the ’80s flick, Slater played Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who comes to Earth to retrieve a powerful orb and ends up battling an evil witch named Selena, who the iconic Faye Dunaway played. Mia Farrow and Peter O’Toole also appeared in the film.
Decades later, Slater is on deck to check out the new Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock. The former actor headed to the theater over the weekend to check out the movie, and appeared to give her full approval. More stunning than ever in her sixties, Slater showed off that classic smile that skyrocketed her to fame back in the 1984 film.
View this post on InstagramCheck out the trailer for the original film below:
What Was It Like to Work With Faye Dunaway?Slater was only 18 years old when she worked with Dunaway in the original film, and she referred to the experience in a new interview as an “initiation” about being “mindful of where the camera is and how you're being shot.”
In her interview with PEOPLE, Slater said that she had no sense of “making sure that you're being photographed in a way” that makes you look good when she got the gig. However, Dunaway educated her to “‘just take care. It is an image… Film is image.' And she really understood that.”
Thriving in Her SixtiesWhile Slater may have skyrocketed to fame in the ’80s, she decided to take a different path as time went on. She currently holds a doctorate in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. According to her personal website, she defended her doctoral dissertation, titled Taking a Seat in the Awakened Heart: The Archetypal Nature of Refuge, on October 9, 2023. You can even take a browse through the text of her dissertation if you’re looking for a light read!
On her Instagram page, Slater, who looks more stunning than ever with graying hair, speaks candidly about meditation practices that help her stay balanced day to day.
View this post on Instagram Looking Back on Her Iconic RolesLast year, Slater opened up about the diverse acting roles she took on in her early years. After Supergirl, she appeared in the cult favorite movie The Legend of Billie Jean, for which she had to cut off her hair to play a girl on the run.
“That was actually my hair. I was all in with the part, where I was and being so young, and getting the lead in a movie. It’s such a dazzling thing at such a young age, Supergirl then The Legend of Billie Jean,” she told IndieWire in an interview. “I just couldn’t believe I was getting to do this. There was this feeling of, let’s jump in and do this.”
Slater went on to say that people still tell her they copied her iconic spiked coiff from the film.
“That haircut … it wasn’t wrong, exactly,” she recalled. “Because so many people have come up to me and told me, ‘I got that haircut.’”
Kathie Lee Gifford Opens Up About 'Debilitating' Pain and Multiple Surgeries
Kathie Lee Gifford is on the mend after a year of "debilitating" pain.
The 72-year-old Today show alum opened up about her journey through multiple surgeries and chronic physical pain in a PEOPLE profile published on Tuesday, June 30, revealing that her recent health struggles took her to a dark place.
“I feel like Mr. Potato Head! One thing falls off and then another,” said Gifford, who had a total hip replacement just over a year ago that was soon followed by another hip surgery to repair a fracture. The TV personality also suffered a broken arm in the past year after rolling on it wrong during the night, with a tumble on uneven pavement then leading to yet another broken bone. When Gifford ultimately realized something was wrong with her depth perception, she once again went under the knife for cataract surgery.
Gifford credited her "sense of humor" with getting her through the rough stretch, saying she's never lost it, even in her "bleakest moments." She quipped, "I'm a tough broad."
Looking back on the physical demands of her decades-long entertainment career, Gifford "can't believe [she] didn't fall apart years ago."
But the chronic physical pain she suffered over the past year kept her from enjoying her life—from playing with her grandchildren to going out in public. "I want to be Kathie Lee, the person they expect," she explained. "I don't want to disappoint people. But when you're in pain, it's so debilitating, and everything's a grimace. I've had emotional pain many times in my life, but never this chronic physical pain where you literally want to go home to Jesus."
Gifford remembered praying to God to "go home" if the pain she was experiencing was all that was "left for" her, revealing, "I wanted to die a few times. I wasn't going to hurt myself. I wasn't going to kill myself. I just didn't want to be here—as blessed as I am."
Now, thanks to her surgeries, stem cell therapy and physical therapy six days a week, Gifford is feeling much better, and can run "all over the place" with her grandchildren.
"They're all fantastic," she said. "I'm hoping, Lord willing, that I have many, many years with them."

We're Clearing Our Calendars for These 9 July TV Premieres
With the calendar soon turning to July, America is about to celebrate its 250th Independence Day. But us TV addicts certainly won't be independent from all the great shows coming this month! While July will feature the return of popular series like Big Brother and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, it will also bring a heavy amount of new shows based on popular pop culture franchises, including Legally Blonde prequel Elle, Big Bang Theory spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe and a Netflix reboot of Little House on the Prairie.
Here are the top 9 shows I'm most excited for in July 2026 across broadcast TV, Netflix, Prime Video and more.

Oh my god, you guys, it’s been 25 years since Legally Blonde hit theaters! The iconic Reese Witherspoon comedy has transcended multiple mediums since 2001, spawning a sequel, a reality show, and even a popular musical. So, when the idea was floated out to bring the story of Elle Woods to television, Amazon simply replied, “What, like it’s hard?” Elle serves as a prequel to Harvard Law and even the Delta Nu sorority, as the titular protagonist, this time played by Lexi Minetree, navigates high school in Seattle during the 1990s. Safe to say, I don’t know if her “think pink” mindset will vibe with the grunge scene at the time. Regardless, the series doesn’t have to bend (and snap) to become a Prime Video mainstay, as it’s already been renewed for Season 2.

Netflix
For over a decade, viewers were obsessed with the life and times of the Ingalls family on Little House on the Prairie. Based on the iconic book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, we were taken back a century, watching the trials and tribulations that came with living a “simpler” life on the frontier. Now, Wilder’s work gets brought into the 21st century, as a new adaptation of Little House is coming to Netflix on July 9. Based on her third book of the same name, which also served as the pilot movie of the original series, the new version comes courtesy of Rebecca Sonnenshine, who recently broke out with her screenplay of The Housemaid. But, even though Little House on the Prairie is now in the streaming era, don’t expect any gruesome bloodshed, or curse words coming out of Laura’s (Alice Halsey) mouth.

Has Big Brother hit its modern-day stride? Admittedly, it’s tough to maintain quality for a show that airs 40 episodes over a nearly three-month game. But the past two summers have been ones for the ages for the iconic CBS reality series, now over 25 years on the air. Groups of houseguests are chock full of big, chaotic players, who have made some of the wildest moves in recent memory. The advent of the “A.I. Arena/BB Blockbuster” has been one of the show’s most successful twists ever, providing a much-needed shot in the arm to Thursday night eviction episodes. And Big Brother 28 hopes to continue the streak when it premieres July 9. CBS has advertised this as one of the show’s biggest seasons to date, including more episodes of the companion series Big Brother: Unlocked. And, at some point, the show will hit its 1,000th episode, etching Julie Chen Moonves and company into the pantheon of TV history. Considering what we’re already expecting, imagine the unexpected that’s yet to come!

One of the quintessential summer staples is a weekend by the water, a few days by the ocean or a lake with close friends or family to welcome in the warm weather. And that’s what Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner) aims to accomplish in The Five-Star Weekend. The new Peacock series centers on a famous chef and author who suffers a devastating loss that begins to crack the frame of her seemingly picture-perfect life. Trying to overcome her grief, Hollis brings together people from all parts of her life to Nantucket, reconciling her past in more ways than one. Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2023 novel, despite the title, the cast is packed with stars, including Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden and Timothy Olyphant.

Dancing with the Stars is a life-changing experience for more than just the celebs who come onto the show every year. The biggest constants in the hit ABC reality show’s equation have been the pros. And, as DWTS has seen a resurgence in popularity the past few years, the professional dancers have become celebrities in their own right, making household names out of people like Derek Hough, Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas. And the latter will help determine who will be the next to join them on the new spinoff Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro. Joined by his mother (and Strictly Come Dancing head judge) Shirley Ballas, twelve up-and-coming dancers will put their creativity and charisma to the test in the hopes of joining the flagship series this fall. It’s an interesting symbol of how much DWTS has remained in the spotlight over 20 years, creating an outright reality show about casting someone on another reality show.

While The CW celebrates its 20th birthday this year, it has had far from the easiest road to get there. After the network was acquired by Nexstar, the new bosses pumped the brakes on much of its original scripted content. The sole survivor, All American, comes to a close this year. The hit sports drama has undergone its own facelift as well, bringing in nearly an entirely new class to fill out the halls of Beverly Hills High. With an endzone in sight, does that mean we might see more cameos from OG cast members Spencer (Daniel Ezra), Asher (Cody Christian) and Coach Baker (Taye Diggs)? We’ll have to see what plays the series draws up in its metaphoric two-minute warning.

Despite his meteoric rise to fame on Saturday Night Live over 30 years ago, interestingly, Will Ferrell has not done much since in leading a TV show. But that all changes with The Hawk. The new comedy series aims to do to golf what Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory did for racecar driving and figure skating, respectively. Ferrell plays Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, a golfer looking to regain his former glory by rejoining the PGA tour — and competing against his own son. The Emmy winner is joined by a cast on par with some of his best supporting players, including Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson and Chris Parnell. When it comes to sinking the comedic putt, we shall see if Ferrell is able to nail the birdie, or sink a bogey.

While the “new era” of Star Trek has been in existence for almost a decade, lately has felt like a bit of a red alert situation. Its latest venture, Starfleet Academy, earned a number of criticisms, and a subsequent cancellation after its upcoming second season. And the only other Trek show putting out new episodes, Strange New Worlds, has announced that it will also be ending its communication after five seasons. Luckily, we still have a full 10-episode Season 4 before we get to that endpoint, giving us plenty more time with the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Strange New Worlds has truly been the “box of chocolates” (albeit replicated ones) Star Trek show, as every week has wildly swung through various genres and tones. From a murder mystery to a mockumentary to a flat-out musical, much like the planets and species the Starfleet crew interact with on a daily basis, we never truly know what is in store.

While it’s been off the air since 2019, The Big Bang Theory has lived on through a variety of spin-offs. So far, Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage have been bona fide successes for CBS. But its latest is far and away its most strange. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe focuses on the titular comic book store owner (played by Kevin Sussman), who is forced to become the hero of his own story when he accidentally brings about the end of the universe. Flanked by girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Bert (Brian Posehn), and frenemy Kripke (John Ross Bowie), Stuart will go on a grand adventure through the multiverse, in the hopes of re-establishing his own. Interestingly, given how sci-fi it is, the HBO Max series seems like the perfect show that Sheldon and Leonard would watch themselves!
House of Stassi (Hulu): July 29 Stassi Schroeder at the H&M&LA Event at Ace Mission Studios on April 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaPhoto by River Callaway/WWD via Getty Images
It’s truly odd to think Stassi Schroeder has been a part of reality TV fans’ lives for over a decade (more if you count her time on The Amazing Race: Family Edition)! The TV personality was one of the original and foundational members of the cast of Vanderpump Rules, starting on the hit Bravo show for eight seasons before exiting the show in 2020. But she’s never strayed too far from the world of SUR, serving as a special VIP in Season 2 of Vanderpump Villa. Now, she’s front and center once again, leading House of Stassi, which premieres with its first two episodes on July 29 before the full season drops on Hulu the next day. The show will focus on her life with husband Beau Clark and their children, as well as her multi-hyphenate lifestyle as a model, influencer, and so much more. As they are wont to do, we’ll see how many former SUR employees may wend their way into Stassi’s orbit as well!

View this post on InstagramTaylor Sheridan Admits He Likes to 'Rage-Bait' Critics
Taylor Sheridan doesn't think much of how critics and studio executives take his work.
The prolific Yellowstoneco-creator, who more recently has found success with shows like Landman, Dutton Ranch and The Madison, didn't hold back during the Sunday, June 28, episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, ripping into critics and studio executives alike for knowing "nothing."
“The critics are going to come after me," Sheridan said, citing the backlash he got for how little Demi Moore had to do in Landman Season 1. "I’m underutilizing [Moore], can’t write for women, all this nonsense."
He continued: "The critics and me—I don’t care what they think, and it annoys the s--t out of them that I don’t care. I’ll be the first to tell you that there are things that I do that rage-bait them a bit, and this is one of them. F--k ’em, honestly."
Despite the lack of major Emmy nominations received by his shows and his $1 billion deal at NBCUniversal, Sheridan said his business model is still doing exactly what he wants, as he thinks studio executives know "nothing" these days.
“This is not a democracy. There’s no committee," he said. "You’re going to pay me, and you’re going to give me a bunch of money, and I’m going to deliver you these shows. I’m pretty common, and I’m going to tell stories that common people are going to understand. That’s most of America."
"You’re not going to win no Emmys with me, but I’m not trying to win Emmys," he continued. "That’s not my goal. My goal is to sit somebody on their couch and move them, make them think, make them laugh, scare the s--t out of them, excite them. That’s what I want to do, because that’s what I want from a show."
'90s Metal Band Performs Timeless Classic Live for the First Time in 12 Years
Limp Bizkit, the iconic rap metal band, surprised fans with a rare performance of a cult classic.
The band fronted by lead vocalist Fred Durst, guitarist Wes Borland, drummer John Otto, DJ Lethal on turntables and adding Richie "Kid Not" Buxton serving as touring bassist, is currently on a series of shows for its 2026 tour.
As they continued their string of mid-year European festival appearances, Limp Bizkit treated the crowd to one of their most beloved tracks during their performance in Berlin, Germany.
On June 24, the "Rollin'" hitmakers sparked excitement after performing "Stuck," a fan-favorite single from their debut album, Three Dollar Bill, Y'all.
Officially released in 1997, the veteran rap metal group performed the song live for the first time since 2014.
In a YouTube video captured during the set, Durst made a playful remark, saying, “Hold up…is this too old,” he said, adding “Are you ready for this one? I don’t know if I am! Make some noise, I gotta get it together.”
Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit performs onstage during Download Festival 2026.The comment section quickly filled with fans who were thrilled to hear the song performed live again for the first time in over a decade.
“THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT YESTERDAY!!! btw. It was a killer setlist!” one wrote.
“WOW, FRED is singing like in 1997... D–n awesome! BRUTAL song!” a commenter added.
One fan expressed a sense of nostalgia, writing, “Brings me back to my 20s… great times… livin' life...everything was intact.”
Others requested that the band play more tracks from their debut album.
“I actually love that he fumbled the lyrics multiple times. I wish Fred would start doing more stuff from 3 Dollar Bill,” a commenter noted.
“Their best album, hands down!” a fan said.
The same sentiment was shared by another fan, who commented, “Three Dollar Bill y'all is the heaviest meanest f—g album ever. They're best for sure. Front to back hits there. And f–k yes, our boy Fred still got it!!”
After the Berlin show, Limp Bizkit is set to continue its European run through the first week of July before kicking off its North American tour in the middle of the month.

2000 Rock Anthem, Which Revived a Legendary Band’s Career, Marks Massive Streaming Milestone
A 2000 comeback single helped usher a legendary rock band's return, reintroducing their sound to a new audience. More than two decades later, the track has found renewed success on streaming platforms.
The band Bon Jovi took a hiatus from touring and recording in the mid-1990s after over a decade of nonstop work. What was meant to be a two-year break ended up lasting five, and changing musical trends made it uncertain they could recapture their earlier success.
Released in 2000, Crush marked the band’s seventh studio album and a major comeback. Its lead single, “It’s My Life,” became a defining hit that revived their career and broadened their audience.
Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora co-wrote the song with pop hitmaker Max Martin. This pairing helped give the band the radio-friendly rock anthem that sounded fresh while remaining true to their legendary sound.

"It's My Life" peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard Top 100. While it didn't match the success of the band's mid-'80s chart dominance, the song proved that Bon Jovi had staying power.
The band planted an Easter egg within the song for longtime fans. The second verse, “For Tommy and Gina, who never backed down,” referred to the fictional lovers of 1986’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
U Discover Music shared an interview excerpt of Bon Jovi's 2005 interview with Germany’s Deutsche Welle, where he spoke about writing the song.
“When I was writing 'It’s My Life,' I thought I was writing very self-indulgently about my own life and where I was in it. I didn’t realize that the phrase ‘It’s my life’ would be taken as being about everyone–by teenagers, by older guys, mechanics, whatever. ‘It’s my life, and I’m taking control.’ Everyone kind of feels that way from time to time.”
The song would earn a 2001 Grammy nomination in the category of Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. Crush was also nominated that same year for Best Rock Album.
The staying power of "It's My Life" continues, over two decades after the song first became a hit. In February 2025, the song hit one billion Spotify streams, per U Discover Music, the third Bon Jovi song to hit this milestone, after "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin’ On A Prayer."
Currently, the song has 1,290,156,043 Spotify streams.
Previously, “It’s My Life” reached another milestone in July 2021. The song's video was the first Bon Jovi clip to reach a billion YouTube views.
Bon Jovi returns to the stage after four years with their Forever Tour, beginning in July 2026 for a select number of dates in New York City, Dublin, Edinburgh, and London.
I Tested the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Pillow: Is It Still Worth the Hype?
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
If you go down a Reddit rabbit hole, you’ll find thread after thread of diehard Wamsutta fans lamenting the popular 2000s brand’s disappearance and asking for advice on the best alternative to a Wamsutta pillow. Luckily for fans still mourning the loss of the Bed Bath & Beyond heritage brand, Wamsutta is back under new ownership with a premium lineup of bedding, pillows and comforters.
While the brand has retained its signature look, the question remains: does today’s Wamsutta live up to the Bed Bath & Beyond favorite so many loyal customers still seek out? I tested the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Bed Pillow in a firm model to see how it compares to the Wamsutta pillows I remember growing up with.
What Is the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Bed Pillow?Ashley Zlatopolsky
Available in soft, medium or firm support levels, the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Bed Pillow comes in standard and king sizes. Each pillow has a quilted, stretch zip-off cover with multiple layers of moisture-management technology designed to promote a cooler, more comfortable sleep surface. It can be machine washed on cold and tumble dried on low.
Inside, it contains a premium down-alternative fill that’s more allergy-friendly than real down and significantly more affordable than traditional down-filled pillows. As a Certified Sleep Science Coach, I generally recommend soft pillows for stomach sleepers, medium pillows for back or combination sleepers and firm pillows for side sleepers to help promote proper spinal alignment during sleep.
My Honest Review of the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Bed PillowAshley Zlatopolsky
I’m a side sleeper, so I was eager to test the firm version of the Wamsutta Supreme Comfort Down Alternative Bed Pillow. I’m easily prone to neck cricks and back pain, so proper support is especially important for me.
Right away, I noticed how structured and lofty the pillow looks. It adds noticeable height, which also helps the bed appear more polished and fuller. The firm model includes a two-inch gusset, which further boosts its profile. If you like to stack two pillows, you may want to reconsider with this one, as the added height could push your neck into an awkward angle, depending on your sleep position.
Despite the structured appearance, I was surprised by how much the pillow compressed once I lay down. It flattened significantly under pressure, though it did rebound quickly when I lifted my head. The result is a brief “ahh” comfort that doesn’t fully hold through the night.
While I wouldn’t call it a bad pillow, the flattening makes the firm version feel closer to a medium in real-world use. That’s not unusual for down-alternative fills, which tend to lose structure faster than natural down or shredded memory foam. To help maintain loft, regular fluffing is key. A quick daily shake or “karate chop” at the sides can help redistribute the fill and restore shape.
Compared to Wamsutta pillows of the past, this updated version feels more focused on loft and surface-level structure than long-lasting support. The older Wamsutta pillows many shoppers remember from the Bed Bath & Beyond era tended to strike a better balance between softness and resilience, holding their shape more consistently through the night without requiring as much daily fluffing.
This newer model has a similar initial comfort and plush appearance, but it doesn’t exactly maintain that same steady support once you settle in. Instead, it leans more on that brief cushioned feel before compressing, which makes it feel less substantial over time than the brand’s earlier reputation once delivered.

'Jay & Pamela' Navigate Airport Challenges for NYC Fashion Week Debut (Exclusive Clip)
Jay & Pamela stars Jay Manuel and Pamela Chavez are back and heading to New York City—but first, they must navigate the logistical challenges of navigating an airport as power chair users.
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere on June 30, TLC shared an exclusive sneak peek at what's in store for Jay and Pamela. The reality TV series stars the married couple, who said "I do" in April 2024, during the Season 1 finale.
In the clip, Jay and Pamela were on their way to make their runway debut at New York Fashion Week. They offered an honest look at what traveling by airplane looks like as individuals living with osteogenesis imperfecta Type 3—a rare genetic condition characterized by extreme bone fragility and frequent fractures.
"We're already at this airport for our trip to New York, and let me tell you about flying when you're a power wheelchair user," Jay told producers.
Pamela added, "Yeah, we do a bunch of paperwork even prior to showing up," to which Jay continued, "Because if we don't, so many things can go wrong."
Jay explained, "Our power chairs go under the plane, and they could get damaged. And then, of course, we can't go through metal detectors because it would just completely go off. So we have to get the pat-down, we got to wipe down the chair, make sure there's no explosive device. We always have to explain, like, 'We break easily.'"
'Jay & Pamela' Navigate Airport Challenges for Trip to NYC (Exclusive Clip) (1:20)Once Jay and Pamela arrived at their gate, they had to transfer to an aisle chair so their power chairs could be stored under the plane and they could be transported safely to their seats.
"But I hate it!" Pamela admitted. "I hate being picked up. I've never liked it."
To the airport assistants, Jay reminded, "I know you're in a rush, but we also break easy." He then told producers, "It can definitely cause serious injuries, you know, if we do fall during the transfer."
"You gotta do what you gotta do," Pamela said.
Jay concluded, "Luckily, nobody got hurt. Our chairs made it in cargo, we're off to New York!"
Aside from their traveling challenges, TLC teased, of the Jay & Pamela Season 2 premiere, "Raphael and Rene [Jay's parents] get more than they bargained for when they help Jay & Pamela shop for a new bed. With his 30th birthday coming up, Jay has a big proposal for Pamela."
Catch the Season 2 premiere of Jay & Pamela on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC and streaming the next day on TLC.

1973 Soft Rock Song About a Summer Fling Was Too Risqué for Some Radio Stations To Play
“Summer (The First Time)” was a 1973 song written and performed by Bobby Goldsboro. It peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 but spent 10 weeks on the UK chart, becoming one of his more popular songs.
“People always want to know if I wrote that song from personal experience,” Goldsboro said in a 2007 interview with Record Collector. “And I say, ‘That’s none of your business!’ Actually, it was loosely based on something which happened to me, although that wasn’t nearly as romantic and the age difference was a lot different!”
The song was about a man recalling being a teenager who was pursued by an older woman. “The record company told me that a couple of radio stations refused to play the song because it was ‘too risqué,'" he revealed. "But I never got one detrimental letter from anybody.”
Goldsboro also released the No. 1 hit, “Honey,” which sold over a million copies. It was about a man mourning the loss of his wife. “Most of the song was based on things Bobby (Russell)’s wife had done – like planting a tree, crying over TV shows, wrecking their car – although she had not passed away,” Goldsboro said. “I’ve sung that song thousands of times, but it still moves me every time. It’s moved many people over the years and has often been played at funerals. I get emails to this day asking ‘What did Honey die of?’, but the song doesn’t say, and I didn’t write it.”
In an interview with Gary James, he added, “It just came off like a monster the very first take. Even the musicians, the violin players, came into the control room to listen to the playback. So, we said, 'Man, that was the first take, let's go do it again.' And the second take sounded exactly like it. We couldn't really improve on it, so we called Bobby from the studio and said, 'We have cut a monster with this song.' Of course, I never dreamed it was gonna be as big as it was, but we knew we had a hit with it.”

In addition to being a singer and songwriter, Goldsboro had his own series, The Bobby Goldsboro Show, which was a variety show where he would perform and feature contemporary artists. Hosted by Goldsboro, it aired from 1973 to 1976. He also created several bestselling children’s books and television specials, including the series The Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon, which was an educational, musical program for young children.
Goldsboro is currently 85.

TSA and Google Wallet Launch Touchless ID Security Lanes at 65 Airports
If you’ve walked through a major airport recently, you might have noticed a new line next to the standard TSA PreCheck lane where people are breezing through security simply by looking into a camera lens—no physical driver’s license, passport or printed boarding pass required.
It’s called TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, and it uses quick facial-comparison technology to match your face to your digital records, letting you keep your ID in your pocket and significantly cutting down your time in line. Up until now, unlocking this shortcut was a bit of a multi-step chore because you had to manually upload your passport information into individual airline apps one by one.
But thanks to a brand-new partnership between the TSA and Google Wallet, setting up this airport shortcut just got incredibly easy for everyday travelers. Here's exactly how this new update works, and how to use it to breeze through security on your next trip.
"We're excited that Google Wallet technology is helping make TSA airport checkpoints faster and easier for travelers," said P.J. Linarducci, vice president of product management, Consumer Payments, at Google. "This collaboration aligns perfectly with our goal to make digital experiences more secure and convenient, and we look forward to seeing it roll out broadly just as the busy summer travel season gets underway."
Related: How to Quickly Move Through the TSA Line During the Shutdown
How the New Google Wallet Shortcut Changes the GameBefore this rollout, you could only use Touchless ID if you manually opted in through the dedicated apps of just six specific airlines (American, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska or Hawaiian).
Now, Google Wallet is acting as a centralized hub. Because it’s the first digital wallet to team up directly with the TSA for this program, you can use the touchless lanes no matter which of the 100+ TSA PreCheck-approved airlines you happen to be flying that day.
If you have an Android device and already use Google Wallet, the setup is incredibly straightforward:
- Create Your Digital ID: Open your Google Wallet app and follow the prompts to create a secure ID Pass using your valid U.S. passport. The app will have you scan your passport's security chip and record a brief video of your face to verify it’s actually you.
- Check In for Your Flight: When it’s time to fly, check in for your flight as usual and save your digital boarding pass straight to your Google Wallet.
- Tap to Opt In: If you’re flying out of a participating airport, a "Get started" button will automatically pop up right on your boarding pass in the wallet. Click it, and it will direct you to a secure TSA consent page where you give the green light to share your digital ID for that specific trip.
- Look for the Indicator: Once the system confirms your enrollment, a special Touchless ID badge will appear right on your wallet's boarding pass. When you get to the airport, you just follow the signs for the dedicated Touchless ID queue, look into the biometric camera, and head straight to the scanners.
Related: The Carry-On Hack That Never Fails Me After 5 Years of Travel
Where Can You Actually Use It?The program is currently up and running at 65 major airports nationwide—covering nearly every massive domestic hub (including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Orlando and all three major New York City-area airports) as well as a growing list of mid-sized regional airports.
A Quick Reminder for the Road: Even though your face handles the verification at the checkpoint, the TSA still requires all passengers to carry their physical, REAL ID-compliant driver's license or passport as a backup. The technology isn't always active in every single terminal at every airport, so you’ll want to keep your physical wallet in your carry-on just in case.
Related: This Is the Worst Time to Test the Risky ‘Airport Theory’ Trend
What About Privacy? It is completely natural to feel a little hesitant about facial-scanning technology at the airport, but the TSA has built some strict guardrails around passenger privacy for this specific program.
The entire system is completely voluntary—if you don't want to use it, you can simply skip the opt-in process or tell the officer at the checkpoint that you'd prefer the standard ID scan. Furthermore, under the program's official operating rules, the biometric cameras are used strictly for instant identity verification. The TSA deletes all passenger photos and personal data within 24 hours of your flight's departure, meaning your image is never saved, stored, or used for any kind of ongoing surveillance.
For travelers looking to take the friction out of a busy holiday weekend or a quick family trip, spending five minutes to sync your passport to your wallet before you leave for the terminal is a majorly smart travel move.

Sam’s Club Is Selling a Limited-Time America 250 Sundae You’ll Want To Try This 4th of July
There’s a reason the saying goes “as American as apple pie,” as the sweet dessert is closely associated with the United States. But with sweltering temperatures forecasted for much of the country this Independence Day, a baked dessert fresh from the oven doesn’t sound as appetizing as if we weren’t about to be under a heat dome.

Luckily for Sam’s Club shoppers, the popular warehouse giant is going all in on the America 250 celebrations with its latest food court offering, and it’ll keep you cool in the process. As Food & Winereports, the latest limited-time dessert at Sam’s Club is the new Americana sundae, a seasonal and patriotic combination of vanilla frozen yogurt and flaky pieces of apple pie.
If you’re a regular Sam’s Club shopper, you may be familiar with the Member's Mark Honeycrisp apple lattice pie. This award-winning dessert was named a national champion by the American Pie Council in 2024. In addition to the Honeycrisp apples in its name, the pie features notes of cinnamon and sugar. According to Food & Wine, the Americana Sundae will be available for under $2 at Sam’s Club warehouse food courts starting today through July 31.

“It’s the perfect sweet treat to celebrate classic American flavors,” a Sam’s Club warehouse in Illinois wrote on Facebook, prompting a fan to comment, “I’ll take one.”
Though this limited-time sundae flavor was selected directly by Sam’s Club, the warehouse chain is usually a bit more democratic when it comes to its dessert offerings, giving customers the chance to vote for their next favorite, like February’s caramel and cinnamon palmier flavor.

How Does Aldi Keep Prices Low?Loyal Aldi shoppers know they will find everyday low prices on produce, fresh meat and pantry staples during their weekly shopping trip. Most of us are so ecstatic to stay on budget that we don't really care how they do it, just that they keep doing it so well. However, there are specific ways Aldi can pass those savings on to consumers.
- In-House Brands- Instead of stocking their shelves with national brands, Aldi relies on exclusive brands only found inside their stores, such as Mama Cozzi's, Benton's, Park Street Deli and Clancy's, to name a few. Products under these labels taste so close to their more expensive counterparts that you won't ever know.
- Bring Your Own Bag- First-time Aldi shoppers might be shocked to find out they will be bagging their own groceries, and while they can purchase bags onsite, most of us bring our own. The cost of plastic bags can be astronomical for a grocery store, and removing that overhead allows Aldi to watch their bottom line.
- The Quarter- Most people who don't shop at Aldi still know them as the grocery store that requires a quarter for a shopping cart. Yes, if you want to use one of their carts, you will "rent" it for a quarter and then return it when you're done. You might be wondering, if they don't keep the money, how does it help with cost? Easy. They don't have to pay employees to round those carts up several times each day. If a customer wants their twenty-five cents back, they will walk their cart back to the corral.
These are the three main ways Aldi offers so many fabulous products at such low prices without sacrificing quality.
