Linda Thompson Shares 'Flashback' Photos With Caitlyn Jenner: 'Remember the Good'
Linda Thompson is reflecting on the "positive influences" in her life with nostalgic photos of ex-husband Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce.
"It’s important to remember the good with everything else that may come along," she captioned a carousel of photos shared on Friday. "I’m always grateful for positive influences on health and fitness! I learned a lot during those short years with an Olympic champion."

1978 Rock Hit Became a Career-Defining Classic, Despite Never Reaching No. 1
In 1978, a song about a little-known pub band quietly transformed Dire Straits into international stars.
"Sultans of Swing" became the band's breakthrough hit and eventually one of the defining rock songs of its era even though it never reached No. 1 on the charts.
Written by frontman Mark Knopfler, the song was inspired by a real experience. Knopfler reportedly wandered into a nearly empty London pub and watched an unassuming jazz band perform.
"It was a little deserted pub in Deptford where we were all living at the time - the pub was semi-deserted and the band were down at heel and it was just playing these Dixie standards of Louis Armstrong things, the way they always do," Knopfler said in a 2004 interview.
Despite the tiny crowd and modest setting, the musicians proudly introduced themselves as "The Sultans of Swing," a moment Knopfler found both amusing and oddly touching. "There was something really funny about it to me because Sultans, they absolutely weren't," he added. "You know they were rather tired little blokes in pullovers."
That observation became the foundation for a song celebrating musicians who continue playing simply because they love music, not because of fame or commercial success.
Built around Knopfler's instantly recognizable fingerpicked guitar style, "Sultans of Swing" stood out from many late-1970s rock songs. Its clean, fluid guitar tone and storytelling lyrics felt refreshingly understated during an era increasingly dominated by punk and arena rock excess.
"One day [Knopfler] said to me: 'Remember that song I was fiddling about with the other day? I've completely redone the chord structure," recalled bassist John Illsley in a 2025 interview. "He played it, and it sounded pretty good. The whole thing is incredibly simple, it’s the playing that makes it intriguing. It’s that rolling rhythm on the guitar and a very simple bass and drums approach. Then, of course, it’s a story. And let’s face it, all good songs have a story.”
The song slowly gained momentum after a demo recording began receiving radio attention in the United Kingdom. Once released commercially, it became a major international hit and introduced listeners to Dire Straits' sophisticated blend of rock, blues and roots influences.
Although it stopped short of reaching No. 1, the song became far more important than a chart statistic. Over time, it evolved into Dire Straits' signature track and one of the most respected guitar-driven songs in classic rock history.
Its success also launched the band into a hugely successful career that would later include albums like Brothers in Arms and hits such as "Money for Nothing."
More than four decades later, "Sultans of Swing" remains a staple of classic rock radio and a favorite among guitar fans for Knopfler's intricate playing and conversational songwriting style.
The song's lasting legacy proves that sometimes a career-defining classic doesn't need to hit No. 1 to become timeless.

1956 Film That Mocked Rock ’n’ Roll Accidentally Became One of the Best Music Movies of All Time
We love happy accidents. Especially when they star Glen Vincent, his Blue Caps, and the legendary Jayne Mansfield.
Originally intended to be a satirical comment on the rock-and-roll trend of the 1950s, The Girl Can’t Help It ended up becoming one of the most important documents of music history. An enduring musical comedy, the film was later named the greatest rock movie of 1956 by Ultimate Classic Rock.
“Jayne Mansfield became a national sex symbol after her first starring role in 1956's The Girl Can't Help It. But the comedy is less remembered for its plot … than for its soundtrack,” the outlet writes.
https://www.instagram.com/tv/CdBq7vrl3zK/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Following the story of a mobster who pays a washed-up press agent to turn his yowza girlfriend, played by Mansfield, into a singing superstar, the film has a supporting cast that should make every early classic rock fan swoon. From Fats Domino, Gene VincentandHis Blue Caps, and Eddie Cochran, to ThePlatters, Little Richard, and The Chuckles, seemingly every worthy act was given a ray of spotlight in the film. And they all shine.
Featuring high-fidelity color performances, the film directed by Frank Tashlin provides some of the best-preserved footage of early rock and R&B ever and is regarded as one of cinema's most important early rock 'n' roll celebrations. Adapted from Garson Kanin's 1955 short story Do Re Mi, the film was a massive commercial hit, grossing more than $6 million at the time.
The Girl Can't Help It was accidentally so good that even the greatest rock band of all time was inspired by it. According to Collider, John Lennon saw the film and was moved to follow his dream of starting a band. So, he formed The Quarrymen, recruited Paul McCartney, and The Beatles were born. The outlet even goes so far as to say Beatlemania might not exist without this movie. The girl -- and the film -- simply can't help but be legendary.

1970 Soft Rock Classic That Never Hit No. 1, Was Climbing the Charts 55 Years Later
Though this heartbreak anthem was released over 55 years ago, young people on TikTok have revived it over the past few years.
"Wild World" was written and sung by English singer-songwriter Cat Stevens for his fourth studio album, Tea for the Tillerman, in 1970. It was first released as a single in September of that year and saw significant commercial success. It garnered attention for its lyrics and themes on love and heartbreak, and has been covered numerous times since its release.
"Wild World" did end up on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 11 in 1971. Despite its success and impact on listeners years later, it never reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 or any major chart.
Yusuf Islam, formerly know as Cat Stevens, performs on the Great Oak Stage during BST Hyde Park at Hyde Park on July 11, 2025 in London, England. What is 'Wild World' by Cat Stevens about?Stevens was in a relationship with actress Patti D'Arbanville for two years, and many suspected the song to be about her. But the 77-year-old musician denied this claim back in 2009, when he was a guest on The Chris Isaak Hour. He explained that the song was his own reflection on returning to music after a near-death experience due to complications with tuberculosis.
"I was trying to relate to my life. I was at the point where it was beginning to happen and I was myself going into the world. I'd done my career before, and I was sort of warning myself to be careful this time around, because it was happening," he said. "It was not me writing about somebody specific, although other people may have informed the song, but it was more about me. It's talking about losing touch with home and reality."
But 10 years later, he finally admitted that it was about D'Arbanville. The former couple broke up because their careers seemed to be pulling them into "two different worlds," as the "Morning Has Broken" singer told Billboard. D'Arbanville was pursuing a career as a model, while Stevens was a singer.
"[Patti and I] had some great times together, but I started recording and she was doing her modeling and it just became like two different worlds," Stevens revealed in 2019. "Because I’d had such an experience of almost falling off the planet, I knew there were a lot of dangers out there, so it was kind of me talking to myself about the second career I was about to embark on and also talking to her about her career. We’d basically split at that point, and that was the ode to our parting."

Born Steven Demetre Georgiou, he released his debut album in 1967 titled Matthew and Son when he was just a teenager. His very first album reached high numbers on various charts in the United Kingdom, as well as Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat, which were both certified triple platinum in the United States. In 1977, Stevens converted to Islam and adopted the name Yusuf Islam the following year. Currently, his stagename is Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
Under his various names, Stevens has released 25 albums, with his most recent being King of a Land in 2023. He also penned four books, and his memoir, Cat on the Road to Findout, was published by Genesis Publications in October 2025.
The resurgence and impact of 'Wild World'"Wild World" had a small revival in 2020 during the album's 50th anniversary. To celebrate, Stevens released a reimagining and remastered edition of Tea for the Tillerman, which also includes a "Wild World" and a duet with his younger self on "Father and Son."
Since then, "Wild World" experienced a significant resurgence on TikTok and became a viral anthem for Gen Z, especially in 2025. The 1970 folk-rock classic is usually the background song for trending emotional, nostalgic and acoustic cover content. The resurange can be credited partly to a popular live performance by Stevens at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival last summer.

The song has over 879 million streams on Spotify.
Currently, Stevens is actively touring and promoting his memoir, Cat on the Road to Findout, and posting travel photos frequently on his Instagram account.

1979 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Intense Sci-Fi Movie Ever Made'
While the science fiction genre does have a few quiet, contemplative films, some of the most memorable sci-fimovies have plenty of action scenes and stress-inducing moments. The publication Collider showcased some of the most heart-pounding films from the genre by ranking "the 10 most intense sci-fi movies ever made."
The list, published on May 13, spotlighted beloved sci-fi movies like Ex Machina from 2014, 1982's The Thing, 2018's A Quiet Place, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1978. Collider named Ridley Scott's classic Alien (1979), starringSigourney Weaver as Lt. Ellen Ripley, as the "most intense" science fiction film of all time.
According to the publication, the film deserves the title because it's upsetting and exhilarating to watch as the USCSS Nostromo crew gets picked off one by one.
Sigourney Weaver Shared Insight Into Filming 'Alien' in 1979Weaver discussed making Alien in a 1979 interview, shortly after the film's premiere. According to Weaver, it was difficult to convey Riley's emotions and connection to her crewmates in an action-centered movie.
"It's a very technical film, and the relationships are not the focus of the movie. The relationships have to be understood, and they have to be played, but through the action of the film. That was very challenging," said the actress in the 1979 interview.
In addition, Weaver, who has reprised Ripley in three Alien sequels, said that she was genuinely frightened while on set. She explained that the Xenomorphs looked convincingly real because "the special effects were so good."
"You never saw that it was actually made of sticks and stones or something. Everything really worked and was convincing, so that helped the actors tremendously in keeping that illusion of being terrified," said Weaver, now 76.
Weaver also shared that she wouldn't have had the same take-charge attitude as her on-screen counterpart if she were faced with Xenomorphs.
"My reaction in the same situation would probably be to make terrible jokes a lot. You know, I don't think I would come through in the same way that Ripley does. I would probably wise off a lot," said the Avatarstar.
Foreclosures Are Spiking in the Most Popular Retirement States
It is a brutal time for Americans in this current economy. In addition to rising costs, the housing market has been all over the place. And for retirees, that can be particularly scary. Right now, foreclosures in the U.S. are up 18% from this time last year, with a 42% increase in completed foreclosures, according to Realtor.com. These three states, which are favored by retirees, are at the top of the list.
DelawareDelaware’s foreclosure stats are complicated, with 1 in every 1,739 homes foreclosed. The state has fewer housing units, so it doesn’t take much to push the foreclosure rate into more alarming numbers than in larger states.
Still, Delaware recently performed its first comprehensive property tax reassessment in 40 years. Many homeowners saw their property taxes spike, making their homes unaffordable. The foreclosures began rolling in. Cost of living, HOA fees, and higher housing costs have also contributed to the state's crisis.
🎊 Subscribe now for your daily dose of inspiration and entertainment with Parade's newsletter 🎊
South CarolinaNot far behind Delaware is South Carolina, a state that’s seen the fastest population growth in the country. With 1 in every 1,745 homes foreclosed, the rapid growth is also contributing to the high foreclosure rate.
Migration to the state caused inflated home prices, often outpacing local wages. Buyers who purchased at the apex of the boom were saddled with disproportionately high mortgages. With the economy as bad as it is now, homeowners aren’t able to refinance or sell high enough to recoup their losses.
Related: These Are the 19 Best Cities To Retire in Across the Country’s Main Regions
FloridaWith 1 in every 2,092 homes in foreclosure, Florida ranks third on the list (though some data suggests it may be first). Owners get hit with a triple whammy; home prices are astronomical, property taxes recently shot up, and homeowners pay the highest rates in the country.
Because of the disproportionate number of condos in the state, homeowners have mortgages, insurance, and HOA fees, all of which increase every year. With inflation growing faster than wages, it’s no wonder that these compounding fees are pushing owners out.
Runners UpRounding out the top five states are Indiana (1 in every 2,129) and Illinois (1 in every 2,262). The COVID-19 migration of workers from expensive cities to more rural areas artificially boosted home prices across the country. Now, these areas are seeing higher foreclosure rates because wages haven’t kept pace.
If moving in your retirement is part of your plan, it’s important to first understand your finances and what you can afford. Homes that have been on the market longer or are being sold by the bank could be a great way to snag a great space for a great price, but other factors like home insurance and property tax increases are worth noting before signing on the dotted line.

Everyone Is Ready for the ‘Miles High Club’ TV Series, but T.L. Swan Takes Us Back to the Start (Exclusive)
When it comes to romance, there is one book series currently on the top of everyone’s lips. It’s the Miles High Club by T.L. Swan, which is being adapted into a TV series thanks to Amazon MGM Studios. However, she’s not only the master of that book series. She’s become the master of the genre.
Since 2014, Swan has captured our hearts with her steamy scenes. It started with Stanton Adore, and she’s just recently published the first in a new series of novels, The Heart We Kept. However, in an exclusive interview with Parade, Swan explains how it all started and why. It turns out that the pressure was on!
For those who haven’t read Swan’s own story before, you may not be aware that it was all thanks to a 30-day free trial of MS Word. Swan was candid as she shared, “The business my husband and I had bought was failing, and what had started as a dream had become a nightmare.”
While down on her luck, she decided to turn to self-help books, and one of them was The Secret. That’s the one that helped change her “brain chemistry,” as she explained it, and within two weeks, it was like fate was speaking to her.
“While cleaning out my garage, I found a box of old diaries with all the stories I had written when young,” she shared with us, “I took it as a sign.”
Courtesy of T.L. SwanHowever, with the failing business, she couldn’t buy the full subscription to MS Word, so she opted for the 30-day free trial, and it certainly gave her the push she needed, as she went on to share, “When I started that free trial, I knew I only had 30 days to get my first book written. I wrote every night once my family was asleep.”
Writing wasn’t just a hope of making money from a passion. It also became her escape and happiness during a darker time. Sure, there were times when she felt a little disheartened, especially during the days of slower sales for Stanton Adore, and she had to take a break from writing after breaking her back, but she explained, “My addiction to the thrill of writing had been well and truly ignited, so I kept going.”
It was worth pushing through some of the harder moments because there was a loyal fan base out there. Dr. Stanton, her fifth book, “skyrocketed to number 1 on the American Amazon chart,” and that’s when Swan knew that “my readers, like me, were reading romance as an escape from daily life.”
With the success of her first five self-published books, Amazon’s publishing arm, Montlake, then got in touch to become her publisher. Of course, she thought it was a joke from her husband at first, as this had never been done before. “They had never signed an Australian author before.”
And while that step was amazing, the romantic in her still wanted more. She yearned for the opportunity to see her books on the shelves, and that’s what happened when Arndell got in touch intending to publish The Miles High series in U.S. bookstores.
Courtesy of Keeperton“Having every book in that series hit the USA Today bestseller lists was honestly a dream come true,” she gushed, “And having the publishing team at Arndell (an imprint of Keeperton) behind me with their never-ending support, help and guidance every step of the way has been surreal.”
Speaking of the Miles High Club, it’s the first series of her collection to land a TV series deal, and it’s taken time to get there, “But it has absolutely been worth the wait!” Swan made clear.
“I’m so thrilled that it’s coming to TV, and I can’t thank my readers enough for their support,” Swan wanted to make sure that fans know that she wouldn’t be where she is without them.
Don’t worry if you’re thinking that the show will transform the books in a way that doesn’t make sense. Swan confirmed, “I am an Executive Producer on the show, so yes, I’ll be involved!” There are always elements that need changing for the sake of TV production, but the story itself doesn’t need to shift in any way.
Keeperton | Arndell Books
It’s not just the new TV show fans are excited about. There’s also the new steamy romance novel, The Heart You Kept, which is the first in the Kings of the Riviera series.
It’s “set against the glamorous backdrop of the French Riviera — the casinos, the champagne, the old money, and luxury — it’s a forbidden love story that’s decadent, immersive and scorching hot.”
Readers have met the billionaire casino owner, Edward Prescott, before from the Mr. series, but this story delves into a lot more.
“When reading, I love escapism, I want to be transported to a different, fun, and exotic dimension where I can let my imagination run wild,” Swan discussed the inspiration for the latest of her steamy stories, “The thought of living in the French Riviera and meeting the love of my life, who also just happens to be an enigmatic, witty, and insanely hot billionaire definitely inspires me.”

John F. Kennedy Jr.was determined to make a name for himself, and that led to the creation of his political/pop culture magazine called George. Looking for high-profile celebrities that fit the brand, JFK. Jr. asked Princess Diana to grace the cover, but she refused.
In an excerpt of Caroline Hallemann's The Kennedys and theWindsors: The Story of Two Dynasties, One Born, One Made, posted by Vanity Fair, it details why Princess Diana turned down the offer. JFK Jr. was looking for someone who melded their celebrity status with their political life perfectly, and none was more perfect than Princess Diana at the time.
"Lady Di, at that moment, was a perfect example of that because she was a symbol of the intersection of those things. She was a celebrity, a royal who had a defined role, but she also had a personal and political mission. She had ideas about how she wanted to help the world. She had her own feelings about her service, at least that’s the perspective that I got from her,” said artist Sasha Chermayeff, a close friend of Kennedy.
Princess Diana and JFK Jr. were seen as parallels of each other with a "quiet aura" and complicated legacies. According to the book, JFK Jr. penned a letter to her asking for a meeting, with Princess Diana having been "keen on the idea."
The two met while Princess Diana was in New York in December 1995 at the Carlyle Hotel. While JFK Jr. was enamored by her and pitched his cover idea, the conversation was reportedly over before it started. Princess Diana decided to turn down the opportunity, feeling like the magazine needed to be more successful before she could be the face of it.
“Well, you know, this is all very nice, John. Thank you. But I hope you’ll forgive me if I don’t take up the opportunity this time, but would love to maybe for your fiftieth or your hundredth issue or something,” she said.

JFK Jr. quickly realized her decision was final and moved on to another topic of discussion. The book alleges that Princess Diana took the meeting because she wanted to learn more about his upbrining, in the hopes of raising her two sons the same way Jackie Kennedy did.
In the end, Princess Diana also gave him a note saying she would grace the cover in the future. For the first issue of George, model Cindy Crawford appeared on the cover in a midriff‑baring George Washington–meets–pinup girl ensemble.
Who Won ‘Jeopardy’ Today? (May 15, 2026) Plus, the Final Jeopardy Answer
There are three things guaranteed in the world today: Death, taxes, and Jeopardy! being on. Believe it or not, the iconic game show has been on the air for over 60 years (though the modern incarnation we know and love technically debuted in 1984). Under the watchful eye of Ken Jennings (who himself was a record-breaking champion), Jeopardy! puts three people's trivia skills and reflexes to the ultimate test. And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

The clue: "This title character of an 1890 play is often called 'the female Hamlet'"
The answer: "Who is Hedda Gabler?"
It was a tight Double Jeopardy race between Williams and Griffith, who came into FJ with $18,900 and $12,800, respectively. Williams' wager of $6,701 was a classic strategic play, enough to cover a correct response from Griffith (who would have had a maximum of $25,600 if he wagered everything and answered correctly).
In the end, Williams was the only one to get it right, for a final score of $25,601, while Griffith wagered $8,000, got it wrong, and dropped to $4,899. Meanwhile, Fulton’s pre-FJ score was $600, with a near-total wager of $599, and a final answer later, she walked away with $1.
Williams will be back again on Monday for his ninth go-around.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's New Project Isn't What You'd Expect
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, have just announced a brand-new Netflix project in development, and while it's far from their first partnership with the streaming service, this work is going to look quite different from what the couple has done together before.
Per People, Meghan and Prince Harry will be developing a movie adaptation of the memoir No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege, written by Major Adam Jowett. The book centers on the true story of a British company, Easy Company, that came under siege in Afghanistan during their fight against the Taliban in 2006.
During the siege, Easy Company found themselves vastly outnumbered and outgunned, which resulted in a harrowing battle that lasted many days, all led by Jowett himself, who had to handle the responsibility of trying to keep the Easy Company soldiers alive.
As reported by Deadline, the movie adaptation is being produced by Meghan, Prince Harry and Tracy Ryerson, the latter of whom will be responsible for scripted content, for Archewell Productions—the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's company that, per the website, "...is dedicated to illuminating thought-provoking and diverse narratives that underscore our common humanity and celebrate community."
Other projects produced by Archewell have included the docuseries Harry & Meghan, as well as With Love, Meghan, both of which were also released on Netflix.
The couple's Archewell Productions projects are just some of the work they continue to do. In fact, Meghan just shared updates on her company As Ever, which is a lifestyle brand offering a range of products, from wines and chocolates to candles and teas.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan have also continued to have engagements and make appearances at various events, although those events are not nearly as frequent as they would be if the couple still lived in the United Kingdom as working royals. And, no doubt, this type of project would be considerably less likely if they hadn't stepped away from royal duties.
1998 Power Ballad Became the Longest-Running No. 2 Hit in Country Music History
Not only the Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain is the queen of charting records. One of her biggest achievements has quietly been sitting in the Billboard record books for decades. Twain’s 1998 power ballad, “You’re Still the One” remains the longest-running No. 2 hit in country music history, a testament to the crossover smash’s enduring popularity nearly 30 years later.
As Twain gears up to host the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards this Sunday, May17, from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena — and prepares to release her new album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24 — there’s never been a better time to revisit the historic song.
View this post on InstagramWritten with her then-husband, record producer Mutt Lange, the song is an ode to enduring love. Built on an arrangement of organ, piano, and guitar, and lifted by soaring harmonies, the tender ballad struck a deep emotional chord with fans.
So much so that Twain has since called the ode to love her “most important song,” noting the irony that the ballad about lasting love was written with a partner she’s no longer with. Over time, the song has taken on new meaning for her — one shaped less by permanence and more by resilience and triumph.
“‘You’re Still the One’ is the favorite song I've ever written because it means so much to so many other people,” Twain told TODAY in 2023. “That just really makes it the most important song I’ve ever written. … You get married because you think it’s going to last forever. So, the song no longer applied to me in that sense.”
Released on Jan. 27, 1998, “You’re Still the One” was a unique choice, because it was also marketed to pop and adult contemporary radio stations. And it was wildly successful in doing so. According to NBC News, the song spent 42 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 2 for nine weeks.
The country star shares thesecond longest-running record with Donna Lewis’ pop hit “I Love You Always Forever.”
On May 2, 1998, “You're Still the One” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. A year later, she nabbed two Grammys for the hit off her landmark Come On Overalbum. The crossover gamble changed Twain's career forever. Now a staple at weddings and karaoke nights, “You’re Still the One” has become the “ultimate love song” for fans, enduring in popularity all these years later.
Speaking with The Boot in 2023, the queen put it best: “[‘You’re Still the One’] was a magic moment.”

Sentimental 1947 Book Considered One of the 'Best Children's Books Ever' Was Banned for 25 Years for an Absurd Reason
Some book bans are for the most ridiculous reasons ever, and they can end up harmful. That was almost the case for one children’s book published in 1947. Fortunately, now, this book is considered one of the “Best Children’s Books Ever,” but it almost wasn’t the case.
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is considered No. 6 on the list of “Best Children’s Books Ever” by Goodreads users, and there are plenty of reasons why. It is one of the most sentimental books out there for younger readers, and it’s this that led to a 25-year ban.
‘Goodnight Moon’ Was Banned at the New York Public LibraryFrom 1947 to 1972, so from the moment of publication, Goodnight Moon couldn’t be found in the New York Public Library. This had nothing to do with the government or parents. It was Anne Carroll Moore’s dislike of the book. The head children’s librarian at the time thought the book was “unbearably sentimental,” and she didn’t believe that it offered any sort of educational value to children.
So, there was a “soft ban,” which led to a delay in the initial success for the classic. Fortunately, it didn’t stop if from becoming popular, but it could have been so much worse.
The banning didn’t stop with Moore’s library, either. So many librarians thought that she was important enough to listen to, and they decided to ban the children’s story as well.
In fact, after she retired, she reportedly tore up a list her successor, Francis Sayers, made for the new books to enter the children’s book shelves.
‘Goodnight Moon’ Faced Another Potential Ban in the 2000sAfter finally getting into the library shelves, there’s no doubt that this classic became a favorite. However, it then faced another ban in the 2000s, and that one was thanks to illustrations that came from a time of the past.
Clement Hurd, the illustrator of the story, had a man smoking a cigarette on one of the pages. Rather than accept that this is a depiction of the past, many rallied to have the book banned because it might encourage children to smoke. HarperCollins and Hurd’s son worked together to digitally change the image to remove the cigarette, which raises the question about history and the use of technology.

1965 Rock Classic From a No. 1 Album Has Disturbing Lyrics
Overall, the beloved band The Beatles is known for songs that evoke images of peace, love, and friendship, like "A Little Help From My Friends," "In My Life," and "All You Need Is Love." However, in May 2026, American Songwriter reported that the 1965 Beatles' song, "Run For Your Life," off the Rubber Soul record, has some unexpectedly dark lyrics.
The publication named the John Lennon-penned track as being among "the 4 classic songs [that] are seriously disturbing." According to the publication, the tune depicts an unwell narrator promising he'll murder his romantic interest in a scenario where she decides to date someone else.
John Lennon Discussed 'Run for Your Life' in a 1971 InterviewIn a 1971 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Lennon shared that he wasn't all that fond of "Run for Your Life." According to the late musician, who died in 1980 at the age of 40, he didn't put much thought into writing the song, which was partly inspired by Elvis Presley's 1957 track, "Baby Let's Play House."
"From the same period, same time, I never liked 'Run For Your Life,' because it was a song I just knocked off. It was inspired from – this is a very vague connection – from 'Baby Let’s Play House.' There was a line on it – I used to like specific lines from songs – “I’d rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man” – so I wrote it around that but I didn’t think it was that important," said Lennon to the publication.
While speaking to Rolling Stone, Lennon said he was happy with the song, "Girl," also from Rubber Soul, which became a No. 1 record in 1966, as reported by the official The Beatles Store.
"Girl' I liked because I was, in a way, trying to say something or other about Christianity which I was opposed to at the time," said Lennon in the interview.
Lennon then explained that the song deals with "sort of the Catholic Christian concept – be tortured and then it’ll be alright, which seems to be a bit true but not in their concept of it."
"But I didn’t believe in that, that you have to be tortured to attain anything, it just so happens that you were," continued Lennon.
Meet Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s 4 Kids — And Which Ones Followed Them Into Acting
When Warren Beatty first met Annette Bening on the set of Bugsy in 1990, few people expected Hollywood’s most famously commitment-phobic leading man to settle down. But more than three decades later, the Oscar-winning pair are still together — and the four children they’ve raised mean more to them than all of their critically acclaimed work combined.
For Bening, there was never much doubt in her mind that she’d one day be a mom. “It was one of the earliest things that I ever wanted when I was a little kid,” she told Parade in 2010. “I wanted to be a mother, so it’s always been in me. I’m not somebody that came to that later and thought, ‘Well, maybe I will and maybe I won’t.’ It was just always there.”
For his part, Beatty has called having kids “the biggest thing that’s ever happened” to him. “That’s bigger than fame, and it came not a moment too soon.”
Keep reading for everything to know about the legendary couple’s family.
How many kids do Annette Bening and Warren Beatty have?Bening and Beatty share four children: Stephen, 34, Ben, 31, Isabel, 29, and Ella, 26.
Their eldest child was born on Jan. 8, 1992, just a month after the release of Bugsy, the film that famously brought his parents together.
Speaking to Parade in 2010, when her youngest was around 10, Bening said, “[Motherhood] is very demanding. I’ve got this family who needs me even when I’m working. In some ways it’s crazy-making, but in other ways, it’s so deeply gratifying that I can have the chance to have a career too.”
She went on to say that, in general, most moms are just doing their best. “[We’re] trying to raise our kids and talk to them about everything that needs to be discussed and give them their limits and also be their allies. So for everybody, it’s always a bit of a mess and chaotic.”

How old were Annette Bening and Warren Beatty when they had their last child? The couple’s youngest daughter, Ella, was born on Jan. 8, 2000. At the time, Bening was 41 years old and Beatty was 62.
Commenting on his decision to marry and start a family later in life, Beatty told GQ in 2016, "Had I gone ahead earlier and gone through 143 divorces, I would have felt very guilty. I think I would have handled it badly. More importantly, it wouldn't have been these kids or this wife ... I'm so much more interested in my wife and kids than anything else."
Who are Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s kids?Stephen BeattyAfter Beatty confirmed to the press (via fax!) that he and Annette were expecting their first child, the couple was a tabloid fixture — but only for a proverbial minute.
“...We weren’t a scandal for very long,” Bening told Parade. “Very quickly we had a kid and it was like, ‘Oh yeah, they are just like married with children.’”
In 2012, their eldest child, who was assigned female at birth, shared that he identified as a trans man and had begun transitioning as a teen. Both Bening and Beatty have spoken lovingly and openly about supporting their son.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Beatty said, "He's a revolutionary, a genius and my hero, as are all my children."
Bening, meanwhile, told AARP, “He’s managed something that’s very challenging with great style and great intelligence. He’s an articulate, thoughtful person, and I’m very, very proud of him.”
She’s also admitted to wanting to protect Stephen — and all of her children — at certain points in their lives. “When I was younger, part of me thought I could save my children from having to suffer, which was, of course, ridiculous,” Bening said. “They have to go through their struggles.”
In addition to his LGBTQ+ advocacy work, Stephen is a writer and educator who’s contributed essays and poetry to various publications and anthologies.
Ben BeattyBen joined the family on Aug. 23, 1994.
An alumnus of Northwestern University, where he studied Theater and Middle Eastern History, the second-born Beatty has followed in his parents’ footsteps as an actor. His film credits include Hail, Caesar! and UFO, and he recently made his Geffen Playhouse debut in the show Master Harold and the Boys.
“I grew up going to shows at the Geffen, and it feels great to be working here myself,” he told Broadway World. “We don't have enough theater in Los Angeles, so I'm very happy to be a part of the great community here at the Geffen, working on a special piece of art. I'm very grateful for it, and I hope I get the chance to do it again.”
Isabel BeattyIsabel was born on Jan. 11, 1997, and followed her parents into acting as well. She’s so far been in a number of short films, including Murder Tag (2018), Baggage (2019) and Admitted (2021), but has yet to have her “big break” in film or television.
Back in 2014, she participated in the prestigious Bal des Débutantes in Paris. She was 17 at the time.
Ella BeattyElla, born April 8, 2000, is perhaps the most publicly visible of the Beatty-Bening children these days.
After studying at Juilliard, Ella made her on-screen debut in 2024 with a recurring role in FX on Hulu’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans before landing her first film role in the A24 drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You the following year. She’s also no stranger to the stage, having made her Broadway debut in 2024 in a replacement role in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate.
Fun fact: Bening was about nine-months pregnant with Ella at the 1999 Oscars in March. She was nominated for her role in American Beauty but lost to Hilary Swank, who won for Boys Don't Cry; meantime, Beatty was that year's recipient of the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
"I remember that night and just the baby was moving so much because of the adrenaline that was coursing through my system," she recalled on Today in 2024.
Are any of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s kids actors?Yes, three of their children have pursued acting: Ben, Isabel and Ella.
But if the default nepo babies are turning to their parents’ career for inspiration, Beatty hasn’t noticed.
“Once in a while I’ll say, ‘Did you ever see such and such?’ And they haven’t,” Beatty said in 2016. “I said to my 19-year-old [Isabel] last year, ‘Have you ever seen Shampoo?’ and she was like, ‘Nooo.’ So there’s my legacy for you. At least around here.”

PHOTO: Phil Collins Walks With Crutches on Rare Outing Amid Health Issues
Beloved musician Phil Collins was seen walking with crutches during a rare outing at Buckingham Palace earlier this week.
The 75-year-old artist posed alongside Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster to celebrate the 50th anniversary of King Charles III's charity.
View this post on Instagram"Despite the downpours of torrential rain which did not seem to dampen the festivities @officialphilcollins and I were very proud and honored to be there and have a few private moments with King Charles who seemed genuinely pleased to see Phil who was the very first ambassador 40 years ago and a trustee even before that!" Jill Collins captioned the sweet photo.
Earlier this year, the Grammy winning musician gave an update on his health, explaining that he's had a "difficult, frustrating last few years."
"I can walk, albeit with assistance, you know, crutches or whatever," the "You'll Be In My Heart" artist said during a January appearance on the "BBC Eras" podcast.
He continued, "I enjoyed coming off tour. Coming off the road … I thought, right, I’m gonna do all those things that I couldn’t do. I guess I had too much of it. I was never drunk, although I fell over a couple of times. But it is just one of those things that happened, and it all caught up with me, and I spent months in hospital."
Prior to being dependent on crutches, Collins had used a walker for assistance for nearly a decade.
He has largely retired from music after stepping away from performing in 2022.
"I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore," he told Mojo Magazine last year.
