'Outlander' Author Diana Gabaldon Reveals the Finale Ending She Fought For (Exclusive)

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 9:30am

One of the things that bestselling author Diana Gabaldon, who created the Outlander franchise, always explains to fans is, “The show is the show, and the books are the books. The show can just possibly use about 10 percent of any of the books.  Obviously, there will be differences."

And that is what happened with the series finale. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts did consult with Gabaldon to get her take on what could unfold. But in the end, the final decision was his, and she’s fine with that, especially since Gabldon credits Roberts with actually being responsible for Outlander coming to the TV screen.

As she tells the story, several years ago, Roberts read the first three novels and wrote a 29-page treatise on how great they were. But Paramount, to whom he presented it as a potential film, passed. But he didn't give up, and while it took him several years to find a studio and partners – Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis – to get it made, he finally found the right partners in STARZ and Sony Pictures Television.

⚔️Don’t miss our Outlander newsletter for access to exclusive news, interviews, insider info from Diana Gabaldon and more – sign up now!⚔️

What happened in the Outlander finale?

As for the finale, yes, Frank Randall’s book, The Soul of a Rebel: The Scottish Roots of the American Revolution, was right, Jamie (Sam Heughan) did die in the Battle at Kings Mountain. But then his eyes opened and he gasped for air, so it appeared that just like in the book, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, Claire (Caitríona Balfe) brought Jamie back to life after he was killed at Kings Mountain.

And it works because in Season 4 of Outlander, when the Frasers first moved to the Ridge a wise Cherokee healer named Adawehi predicted to Claire that she would come into her full powers when her hair turned grey – and sharp eyes will see in Episode 810, the morning after Jamie died, Claire’s hair has turned completely grey.

Did Diana Gabaldon write the ending to Outlander?

Some of what happens in the Outlander series finale is based on ideas that Gabaldon suggested, and some came directly from Roberts, but it was a collaboration based on mutual respect, and it will be interesting to see what the fans think.

Here is what Gabaldon told Parade about her contribution to the finale:

“I suggested that Claire might — as she does in the book — refuse to be separated from Jamie, and (per book) lie on top of his body, as Matt did. But let her blue light grow stronger and stronger, engulfing both of them...and fade out on that. As a note, this season Claire began to come into her blue-light healing power when she helped birth the twins, and the second one wasn’t breathing when it first came out of the womb."

Related: Diana Gabaldon Praises Jamie’s Outlander Season 8 Reunions — And Reveals the Scene She ‘Quibbled’ With (Exclusive)

Then Gabaldon went on to remind Roberts about Jamie’s ghost, which appeared in the very first episode of Outlander.

“And I concluded, ‘You probably don't want to hear this, but you're paying me for my professional opinion — which is that they're gonna crucify you if they don't get the ghosts.’  So I suggested fade out on two entwined and glowing lovers without further action or comment and go black. Then begin again with Jamie emerging from the stone on Craigh na Dun, where he stands for a moment, then begins to walk. And blue flowers spring up silently in his footsteps, including one at the foot of the stone.

“But then the light fades as he goes along, and the scene shifts to the night scene from Season 1, where Frank sees Jamie's ghost (briefly) and we see Jamie looking up at Claire in the window. But the main thing is that they both die on Kings Mountain, and they end up together.”

Outlander's finale is a good sign for books to come

While Roberts didn't take all of Gabaldon's notes, the ending that he gave us is good news because it means if Jamie and Claire are both alive, when Gabaldon finally publishes A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out, Book 10 in the series, there could be another season of Outlander or maybe a movie.

That said, it will be a while before A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out will be published, but Gabaldon assured us that she’s “working hard on Book Ten and it's going very well, but there's no way on earth that it could possibly have come out before the end of the show.”

And just as the show doesn’t feel any constraints to change what’s in Gabaldon’s books, she also makes it clear that “I don't feel any constraint to adjust the books to what the show does or will have done.”

So, how Gabaldon wraps up the Outlander story is still known to only a few, Heughan and Davis among them. But the rest of us will have to wait for the book.

‘Charlie’s Angels’ Legends Jaclyn Smith, 80, and Kate Jackson, 77, Are Ageless Beauties on the Red Carpet

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 9:15am

Charlie's Angels stars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson look amazing, 45 years after the beloved show went off the air.

The legendary actresses, who are best known for their roles as Kelly Garrett and Sabrina Duncan on the hit TV series alongside Farrah Fawcett, are aging like fine wine. While the show ran from 1976 to 1981, Smith continued to act, with roles on The District and Shear Genius. Never one to slow down, she parlayed her career into the design world, becoming an entrepreneur with Kmart and then with the Home Shopping Channel. Jackson chose a quieter life, preferring to avoid the public eye for many years. However, the duo looked more lovely than ever while attending the 2026 Paley Honors Spring Gala at The Plaza Hotel in New York City this week. What do you think we'd have to do to get them back on the TV screen together?

While fifty years have passed, Smith hasn’t forgotten where she came from. As the years go on, she continues to honor her dear friend and fellow angel, Farrah Fawcett. Recently, Smith headed to the red carpet to join friends Morgan FairchildDonna Mills, and Alana Stewart to honor their late friend, who died of cancer in 2009. The event was a benefit for the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which raises funds for HPV-related cancer research, patient assistance funds during treatment, and prevention programs.

Looking incredible in a monochromatic cream-colored suit, Smith glowed in front of the camera, as did the rest of the ladies.

“In Texas with my friends in support of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation and the annual TexMex Fiesta! What a wonderful time for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who joined us,” she captioned her photos.

1958 ‘Culturally Significant’ Classic Film That Swept the Oscars Was Released 68 Years Ago

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 9:13am

68 years ago, in May of 1958, a classic romantic comedy musical was released starring Leslie Caron. The film, Gigi, was based on a 1944 novella by Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.

Gigi was about a teenager in Paris who was in training to become a courtesan. At the 31stAcademy Awards, it was nominated for nine different awards and won every single one, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Song.

In 1991, the film was added to the United States National Film Registry for being culturally significant. It currently has a 90% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, although many audience reviews state that the film has not aged particularly well.

However, Caron is still a huge fan. In a 2023 interview with the actress, she spoke about her iconic role. “And do you know that I was 26 when I played Gigi?” she said. “I had just weened my son. He was three months old during the film.”

She went on to speak about all the reasons why she loved the movie. “Everything about Gigi is so good,” she said. “Everything from the colors, the photography, casting of all the actors is so right, and of course the direction is just wonderful. And, we had a great script writer.”

Related: 2019 Award-Winning Drama Was Ranked No. 1 Miniseries This Decade—and You Can Binge It in a Day

When asked about her favorite scenes, she pointed out one in particular. “We had fabulous fun on the beach," she said. "I just adored the scene where she is in between being a little girl and a young lady. She comes out with a ‘fru-fru’ white dress. She thinks he is going to be impressed, and he calls her a 'dressed up monkey.' She is profoundly hurt. I loved that scene. It was quite difficult to play, honestly. It’s laughable. It’s comic and touching, and I loved playing it.”

She continued, “Compared to some other actresses, I think I’ve done so very little. But I was lucky, I had great partners and even greater directors, and that’s what matters.”

Caron is currently 94. Her most recent television appearance was in 2020.

The 4 Happiest Birth Dates

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 9:10am

Happy people know how to live in the present. They view life with a glass-half-full perspective, which doesn't mean they are immune to grief or challenges. Instead, their gratitude mindset and purpose-driven focus enable them to process difficult emotions and transform these experiences into valuable lessons for personal growth. They understand that true fulfillment cannot be bought with money. They prioritize building strong, lasting relationships.

According to numerologists and astrologers, four specific birthdates align best with these upbeat characteristics. These people seek happiness in the here and now, leaving the past behind and allowing the future to unfold in its own time.

Which Birth Dates Are Most Likely to Be Happy?

Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.

Born on the 11th - The Soul Who Finds Peace From Within

People born on the 11th place a high value on their inner peace. While life has its ups and downs, these people learn that true fulfillment comes from within. As introspective souls, they tend to be sensitive, and changes in their environment can greatly affect them. However, as they mature, they increasingly remind themselves that their perspective is what matters most, rather than how external situations change.

Ruled by the Moon, the intuitive luminary, these individuals possess emotional wisdom beyond their years. They understand that the closest path to true bliss is to stay aligned with their own truth and to be surrounded by unwavering love, which supports them through both good times and bad.

Born on the 15th - The Heart That Chooses Joy Over Drama

People born on the 15th shine with beauty from the inside out. Their positive outlook on life stems from a genuine desire to choose harmony over drama whenever possible. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love and magnetism, they hold their values close. They understand that life is too short to spend time worrying about what could go wrong when there is so much to be grateful for in the present moment.

Like everyone else, they have their off days. However, their happiness doesn’t rely on perfection. Instead, joy for those born on this date comes from feeling fulfilled by serving others and creating safe spaces for everyone to heal together, knowing they are not alone. During tough times, they lean into being present with their loved ones, which serves as the perfect antidote for stormy emotional weather.

Bright like their planetary ruler, the Sun, those born on the 28th radiate infectious light. Their laughter lifts spirits, and their smiles heal wounds. Individuals with this birth date do not wait for permission to stand loud and proud. Taking initiative is second nature to these pioneers. Instinctively, they understand that life is what you make of it. Waiting for someone else to validate their existence? Never!

By being beacons of hope, they inspire others to do the same. Furthermore, being true to their authentic selves naturally attracts the right people into their lives. Joy is in their DNA, and it’s not about luck. With a lifestyle and mindset that fosters creativity and connection, it’s hard not to find the silver lining, even during tough times.

Born on the 30th - The Eternal Optimist Who Makes Magic Out of the Mundane

Jupiter, the planet of expansion, rules those born on the 30th of any month. People with this birth date often possess a childlike joy and a positive outlook on life. Their secret? They remain ever curious about the world around them. Too often, we assume we have experienced everything life has to offer or fixate on what is out of reach. In our comfort zones, we can become weary and bored.

However, individuals born on this date have the willpower to constantly expose themselves to new experiences. They may feel nervous at first—imposter syndrome can affect even the most confident among us. Nonetheless, these individuals choose to believe that the sky is the limit and await the universe to prove it true. They make magic out of the mundane, gathering free spirits together to navigate the world with open-minded wonder.

Viewers Are Freaking Out About Samuel L. Jackson's Hilarious Cameo in Prime Video's 'The Boys'

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 9:01am

Samuel L. Jackson voicing a POed hammerhead shark in Prime Video's hit superhero series The Boys certainly wasn't on my bingo card for this year.

In the most recent episode of the popular comedic action show, viewers were in for an unexpected surprise. Halfway through the penultimate episode of The Boys' final season, a hammerhead shark voiced by Jackson popped up to threaten Chase Crawford's Aquaman spoof character, The Deep, cursing the hero out in fiery Sam Jackson fashion before formally banning him from the ocean.

Jackson's cameo centered around a key event in the latest season of The Boys. With The Deep having caused a massive pipeline oil spoil that killed millions of fish and other aquatic animals, Jackson's hammerhead served as the formal spokesperson for the larger ocean.

"If you step one foot, one f***ing stupid-a** simian toe in the water anywhere – an ocean, a stream, a f***ing puddle – on God, son, you're dead," Jackson's shark proclaimed. "You understand, you dumb motherf***er? Water is f***ing off-limits to you! You are dead to us, b***h-a**."

It's a hilarious moment in the episode, serving as one of the most shocking moments in a show filled with twists and turns around every corner. And of course, viewers themselves expressed their own surprise at Jackson's cameo, as seen from the various comments on YouTube videos showcasing the scene.

"Samuel L. Jackson voicing a Hammerhead," wrote one account. "Now I've seen everything."

"From getting eaten by a shark to voicing a shark, it came full-circle for Samuel L. Jackson," added another user, referencing Jackson's sudden death in the cult horror film, Deep Blue Sea.

"Samuel L. Jackson's voice is just hilarious," said a third viewer. "Especially when he cusses! On God, son."

According to Polygon, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that they managed to get Jackson to cameo in the series due to his pre-existing relationship to the show's producers.

“A lot of the cameos we bring into the show are because Seth Rogen or [executive producer] Evan Goldberg have a relationship with them and can make a call,” Kripke said. “I lean on them a lot for that stuff.”

’90s Film With Glam Rock Soundtrack Ranked Among Best Classic Rock Movies of All Time

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:59am

Todd Haynes’ 1998 glam rock drama Velvet Goldmine has landed at No. 5 on Collider’s list of the best classic rock movies ever made, bringing renewed attention to the cult favorite known for its dazzling soundtrack, bold fashion and tribute to the glam rock era of the 1970s.

The film stood alongside titles such as High Fidelity, The Doors, and Elvis in Collider’s ranking of movies that captured the energy and legacy of classic rock music. Collider praised Velvet Goldmine for how it “captures the glam rock era of the 1970s incredibly well, in a rather unique way.”

Released in 1998, Velvet Goldmine follows fictional glam rock icon Brian Slade, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, whose career collapses after he stages a fake onstage death.

Years later, journalist Arthur Stuart, played by Christian Bale, investigates Slade’s disappearance and uncovers the hidden truths behind the singer’s rise and fall.

The movie also stars Ewan McGregor as wild American rocker Curt Wild and Toni Collette as Mandy Slade.

Directed and co-written by Todd Haynes, the film was heavily inspired by glam rock legends, including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Marc Bolan and Bryan Ferry.

One of the biggest reasons Velvet Goldmine continues to attract fans decades later is its soundtrack.

Even though Bowie declined permission for his songs to appear in the movie, the soundtrack still featured glam rock classics and new recordings inspired by the era. Songs from Roxy Music, T. Rex, Brian Eno and Lou Reed appeared throughout the film.

The soundtrack also included performances by members of Radiohead, Placebo, Pulp and Sonic Youth.

Placebo’s cover of “20th Century Boy,” Thom Yorke’s vocals on Roxy Music covers and Ewan McGregor’s performances of songs linked to Iggy Pop became standout moments for viewers.

The soundtrack album was released in November 1998 and later earned praise for blending original glam rock tracks with modern reinterpretations.

While Velvet Goldmine had only modest box-office success during its original run, the movie slowly developed a loyal fan base after its home-video release.

The film earned generally positive reviews from critics and currently holds a 64% critic score and an 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Time Out described the movie as “a witty, evocative re-creation of the heady days of glam rock,” while Rolling Stone called it an “impressionistic glam-rock fantasy” that captured an “energy and aesthetic vibrance that remains unparalleled.”

The film also received major awards recognition. It was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival and won the award for Best Artistic Contribution. Costume designer Sandy Powell won a BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design and later reflected on how personal the project felt to her.

Today, Velvet Goldmine is widely considered one of the most distinctive films connected to rock music culture.

In 2009, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock gave audiences the priceless gift of a top-tier romantic comedy.

The Proposal, released in theaters on June 19, 2009, became a No. 1 box office hit in its opening weekend, debuting at about $33.6 million.

Praised for the undeniable chemistry between the leads and well-timed comedic bits, along with a wonderful supporting cast that included the late BettyWhite, Malin Akerman, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson and Oscar Nuñez, it went on to become one of the biggest romanticcomedies of 2009, eventually grossing over $300 million worldwide.

Now, nearly 17 years after becoming a box office smash, it still holds up, maintaining a Rotten Tomatoes user score of 65%, and is suddenly climbing the charts on Netflix after being added to the streaming giant's library on May 1.

The film is seeing a resurgence in popularity, simultaneously attracting a fresh generation of viewers and captivating those who seek it out as a nostalgic comfort-watch.

The rom-com is currently the eighth most-watched film on the streaming giant globally, clocking 2.7 million views this week alone in the U.S.  It also marks the second week the film has spent in the Top 10, peaking at #3 last weekend.

The Proposal follows Bullock’s Margaret Tate, a high-powered, demanding, and steely Canadian editor-in-chief working at a New York publishing house. When she faces imminent deportation, she blackmails her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), into a sham engagement. The catch? They despise each other. To make the act believable, Andrew, who is going back home to Sitka, Alaska, for his grandmother’s 90th birthday, convinces her to come with him. Amidst quirky family traditions, the weekend spirals into hilarious chaos, slowly but surely melting Margaret’s cold exterior, as they discover that there’s a very fine line between love and hate—and those fake feelings might actually be real.

While many called the film predictable and formulaic, one review from MoviesAreLife summed it up perfectly, writing, "The Proposal doesn’t break the rom-com mold, but it executes those tropes so confidently that it becomes endlessly rewatchable."

As for the other films on Netflix's Top 10 this week, it includes the animated Swapped, Sally Field's Remarkably Bright Creatures and 2009's comedy-horror, Jennifer's Body.

1970 Pop Rock Classic, Named No. 1 Hit Song for Three Weeks, Became an International Anthem

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:35am

More than five decades after it first climbed the charts, Edison Lighthouse’s hit song “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)” continues to stand as one of the defining pop-rock tracks of the 1970s.

The upbeat single became a massive international success after reaching No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1970, where it stayed for five straight weeks and became the first new chart-topper of the decade.

Released in the United Kingdom on Jan. 9, 1970, and later in the United States in February of that year, the song quickly gained momentum with listeners because of its catchy melody and cheerful lyrics.

The single eventually reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and sold more than one million copies there by April 1970, earning a Gold certification from the RIAA.

The song was written by Tony Macaulay and Barry Mason. Lead vocals were performed by Tony Burrows, whose voice appeared on several major hits during the same period.

Although Burrows originally hoped to release the track under his own name, producer Tony Macaulay wanted the song attached to a group instead. That decision led to the creation of Edison Lighthouse, a London-based pop band formed in 1969.

At the time, the group was assembled quickly so the song could be performed on television after it became a sudden hit. Members of a soft rock band called Greenfield Hammer joined Burrows under the Edison Lighthouse name for appearances on the British music show “Top of the Pops.”

“Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)” rose rapidly on the UK charts after entering the Top 40 at No. 12 on Jan. 24, 1970. One week later, it jumped to No. 1 and stayed there for five weeks before being replaced by “Wand’rin’ Star” by Lee Marvin.

During its chart run, the song beat out strong competition from tracks including “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by Peter, Paul and Mary and “Let’s Work Together” by Canned Heat.

Outside the UK, the single also became a major international success. It reached No. 1 in Ireland and New Zealand, peaked at No. 2 in Australia, and climbed to No. 3 in both Canada and South Africa. In the United States, the song remained inside the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 for 12 weeks.

The success of “Love Grows” helped turn Edison Lighthouse into a recognized name in pop music, even though the band struggled to repeat that level of success afterward. Their follow-up single, “She Works in a Woman’s Way,” failed to chart in the UK and the US, and Burrows later left the group.

More than 50 years after its release, “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)” found a new audience through TikTok in late 2021. The song experienced a huge streaming boost as users featured it in videos across the platform.

Between Dec. 25, 2021, and Jan. 3, 2022, on-demand audio streams for the track reportedly grew by 1,490%. The renewed popularity pushed the song into Spotify’s U.S. Top 200 chart decades after its original release.

The lyrics focus on a free-spirited woman named Rosemary, with the narrator celebrating her unique personality despite her flaws. Lines such as “She ain’t got no money / Her clothes are kinda funny” became memorable parts of the song’s identity.

The lasting popularity of “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)” proves how one song from 1970 grew far beyond its original chart success. What started as a fast-moving studio project became an international anthem that continues reaching listeners across generations.

Broadway's About to Get a Whole Lot Weirder with Upcoming 'Weird Al' Yankovic Musical

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:28am

Things are about to get weird in New York City.

According to Deadline, Broadway is currently developing a new jukebox musical centered around “Weird AlYankovic, the comedic performer commonly hailed as one of the greatest musical parody artists of all time.

The musical, formally titled Dare to Be Stupid, will feature a number of songs from Yankovic’s overarching career, including some of his well-known spoof songs like “Amish Paradise” (“Gangsta’s Paradise”), “Eat It” (“Beat It”), and “Like a Surgeon” (“Like a Virgin”).

The project will be directed by Alex Timbers, who previously worked on Broadway's All In and the disco musical Here Lies Love.Beetlejuice writers Scott Brown and Anthony King are currently attached to the musical as well.

“I first fell in love with Al’s music with the release of Dare To Be Stupid and have remained an avid fan ever since,” said Timbers. “Now, it’s a dream come true to work with one of my comedy heroes bringing an original story set to his beloved songbook to the stage. What Al, Anthony, and Scott are creating is unexpected, subversive, meta, and hilarious and I can’t wait for the world to experience it."

“Ever since I was a middle-aged man, I’ve always wanted to be a part of the New York theatre community,” Yankovic said to Deadline of the new musical. “Plus, the one thing people always say about Broadway is that it’s ‘severely lacking in Weird Al-based entertainment,’ and I think this musical should fix that problem immediately.”

Of course, this is hardly the first time a musical has come out about Yankovic's life and career. Previously, the 66-year-old musician was the subject of a biographical musical parody film, Weird: The Al Yankovic story, starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role.

A tongue-in-cheek spoof of traditional music biopics, the film earned significant acclaim from critics and viewers, mainly due to its humor, absurd story and the performances of the cast involved.

Best-Selling Author’s Classic Novel Ranked Among ‘Most Disappointing Books’ Ever on Goodreads

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:19am

Despite being written by bestselling fantasy author Gregory Maguire, the 2003 novel Mirror, Mirror has been ranked No. 8 among the “most disappointing books” ever discussed by Goodreads readers.

The novel, a reimagined version of Snow White set in 16th-century Italy, received mixed reactions from readers and critics after publication.

Mirror, Mirror follows Bianca de Nevada, a young girl living in rural Italy with her father, Don Vicente. The story mixes fantasy with real historical figures from the Borgia family, including Lucrezia Borgia, who takes on the role of the Evil Queen. The book also features dwarves, a magical mirror, and political intrigue tied to Renaissance Italy.

According to the novel’s official summary, Bianca’s peaceful life changes after Lucrezia and her brother Cesare Borgia arrive at her home. Don Vicente is later sent away on a dangerous mission, leaving Bianca vulnerable to Lucrezia’s jealousy. Bianca escapes an attempt on her life and later finds refuge with seven dwarves, while the magical mirror becomes central to the story.

Although Mirror, Mirror earned attention because of Maguire’s popularity, several readers said the novel did not meet expectations.

One review published by Bookish Live Journal gave the book a 1-out-of-5 rating and sharply criticized the pacing and plot structure.

“I feel like Maguire never actually got to the story,” the reviewer wrote.

The same review argued that the novel skipped important events and relied too heavily on time jumps, making it difficult for readers to connect with the characters or understand their decisions.

“There was no real story, no real plot and no real action,” the review stated.

The reviewer also criticized the use of magic in the novel, saying it appeared only when convenient to the story. The dwarves, who were expected to play a larger role, were described as underdeveloped and uninteresting.

“Also, the dwarfs could have been so much more interesting but they just... weren't,” the review said.

Another criticism focused on Lucrezia Borgia’s motivations throughout the novel. The reviewer questioned whether the character’s jealousy toward Bianca was believable enough to drive the story for years.

Despite the negative reader reactions, professional reviews at the time were divided. Kirkus Reviews praised the novel and called it “Every bit as good as Wicked.”

Even with the criticism surrounding Mirror, Mirror, Gregory Maguire remains one of the best-known fantasy authors in modern publishing.

Born in Albany, New York, Maguire published his first novel, The Lightning Time, in 1978. He later became famous for writing adult novels inspired by classic children’s stories. His best-known work, Wicked, was released in 1995 and eventually became a hit Broadway musical in 2003.

The success of Wicked helped Maguire gain worldwide recognition. The story was later adapted into a two-part movie series, with the first film released in 2024 and the second arrived in 2025.

Beyond Wicked, Maguire has written dozens of books for both adults and children, including Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, After Alice, and A Wild Winter Swan. Many of his novels revisit familiar fairy tales and present darker or more complex versions of classic stories.Still, the renewed attention on Mirror, Mirror shows how divided readers remain about the novel more than two decades after its release. While some fans appreciate its historical fantasy approach, others continue to view it as one of the author’s weakest works.

Kim Kardashian Threw Son Psalm a Pokémon Party and Fans Are ‘Obsessed With the Giant Pikachu’

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:11am

It’s a Pokémon party! Celeb mom Kim Kardashianrecently celebrated son Psalm’sbirthday in a big way. And fans are kind of obsessed with the over-the-top soiree.

No one does kids’ parties like the rich and famous. Who could forget the epic StormiWorld bashesKylie Jenner threw for her kiddo, and then there was Kardashian’s extravagant Hello Kitty-themed event for Chicago West’s birthday in 2023. Of course, the Kardashian-Jenner clan isn’t the only family that goes big for Bdays. Paris Hilton celebrated daughter London’s second birthday in 2025 with an elaborate puppy party that included a “Paw Spa” and a bubbleologist, Cardi Bhad a luxury race car bash for son, Wave in 2022, and The Valley reality TV star Lala Kent threw daughter, Sosa, an impressively elegant outdoor event with a three-tiered floral cake, a ball pit, a bouncy house, and some pretty phenomenal decor.

View this post on Instagram

But back to Kim K and Psalm’s birthday. Kardashian’s youngest son (with ex-husband Kanye West) turned seven on May 9. And like any other elementary-aged child, he’s totally into Pokémon. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star posted an absolutely adorable carousel of pics to Instagram this week, featuring sweet snapshots from Psalm’s big day. Instead of going into detail, Kim added the simple caption, “Pokémon Psalm!”

The first photo is of Kardashian and her newly turned seven-year-old wearing a Pokémon Pikachu tee. That is, Psalm, not Kim. Instead, Kardashian wore a basic white fitted tank and jeans to her son’s party. She also includes a few family pictures and one of a giant Pikachu mascot. The carousel continues with outdoor candids of Psalm and his friends enjoying a sunny California day at the pool in Kardashian’s yard. Beautiful weather? A multi-million dollar house? We're officially jealous now.

But there’s more. Along with a pic of Psalm’s cake, Kardashian also throws in a selfie with Pikachu and a photo featuring her mom, “Lovey,” Kris Jenner. Obviously, Jenner isn’t a “granny” or a “gram.” Youthful Kris is affectionately called “Lovey” by her grandchildren.

What do fans think of the lavish bash? Comments such as “This is fun” and “Obsessed with the giant Pikachu” poured in. Other commenters noted the closeness of the Kardashian fam, writing, “Family…Matters”, “What a beautiful, supportive, healthy family, we love to see it,” and “Cousins are the best kind of friends.” Which Kardashian kiddo can we look forward to seeing birthday pics of next? Kim’s eldest daughter, North West, turns 13 on June 15, and fans are wondering what the celeb family will do to celebrate this major milestone!

Why You Might Want to Book Your Next Disney Trip Through JetBlue

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:10am

For anyone who has ever felt like they needed a PhD to navigate the intricacies of a modern Orlando vacation, a new partnership is aiming to take the stress out of the "World." Starting May 15, JetBlue Vacations is officially becoming an Authorized Walt Disney World Resort Ticket Seller, a move that allows you to bundle your entire trip into one high-design planning experience.

While the ability to group flights, Disney Resorts Collection hotels, and park tickets in one checkout is a major win if you're looking for a more efficient way to travel, the real differentiator is a new human element.

JetBlue is introducing a dedicated team of Theme Park Experts via its "Helpful Humans" support team. These specialists are trained to guide you through the high-velocity world of dining reservations, Lightning Lane selections and the My Disney Experience app—essentially acting as your personal concierge for the digital side of Disney.

“The excitement of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation starts long before customers arrive,” said Jamie Perry, President of Paisly, the company that powers JetBlue Vacations. “We’re honored to be part of that excitement, and our Theme Park Experts will be there to help plan incredible vacations and guide them every step of the way.”

If you track rewards as closely as flight times, this is a major win: you can now earn TrueBlue points and tiles on the total value of your package—including park tickets—fast-tracking you toward Mosaic status.

To really maximize the value of your getaway, you can actually "double dip" on your rewards by layering how you pay for your trip. When you book a vacation package, you’re already earning TrueBlue points on the trip itself—typically 6 points per dollar on airfare and 1 point per dollar on the hotel and park tickets. However, if you put that purchase on a JetBlue Premier Card, you’ll layer on an additional 6 points per dollar on the total package price, while also earning tiles toward Mosaic status for every $100 you spend on the vacation and every $1,000 you spend on the card. Alternatively, if you’re a fan of the Disney Inspire Visa Card, you can take advantage of 0% promotional APR for 6 months on these packages and earn Disney Rewards Dollars to use for future park treats or souvenirs. Both are a great way to ensure that this summer's trip is already helping you pay for your next one.

This expansion follows closely on the heels of JetBlue adding Disney Cruise Line sailings to its portfolio earlier this month.

Given the timing, these perks arrive at a critical moment. As Orlando continues to see record-breaking demand, having an expert on speed-dial to help you exhale during the planning phase might just be the most valuable amenity in your suitcase.

If you love the idea of a Disney vacation but want to ditch the mental load, this new one-stop shop is designed to make the "Happiest Place on Earth" feel a lot more manageable. Whether you’re looking to secure a room at the Grand Floridian or just trying to figure out the best strategy for Early Theme Park Entry, you now have a direct line to someone who can help you navigate it all.

Grace Potter Announces Seventh Studio Album, Drops New Single

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:01am

Singer-songwriter and musician Grace Potter has just released a brand-new single, "Love Me Not," and announced her new album Trespasser.

Trespasser will drop on August 21 this year, and as the title suggests, these 10 songs (one of which is "Love Me Not") center on 'trespassing,' or crossing lines—but, Potter explained, this form of trespassing is presented not as something negative, but rather as something necessary on one's journey in life.

"Trespassing, to me, is not about 'F—k the man, let's go take on the whatever we belong in, like that's ours, we're going to take it,' but rather that the boundaries that we believe to be the walls we cannot cross or the impermeable membrane of our physical existence need to be blurred in order for us to really understand where we want to be," Potter explained.

"I think it's timely," Potter said of the album's name. "I wasn't going to call it Trespasser originally. It was deeper into the project that I actually chose the title because the mode that we are moving into right now is also a mode in my life, just as I've sort of charted the red tape of my life and been like, you know, if I was a detective trying to put these red strings together."

Regarding the timeliness, Potter elaborated, "I think right now there's just a lot of new fences being put up, and there's a lot of new boundaries that I don't think should necessarily be etched in stone. I'm really uncomfortable with certain modalities that people are taking, and we're really entrenching ourselves in storylines and reinforcing them with the echo chambers around us, instead of that curiosity of jumping the fence and looking at things from the other side."

She continued, "I had a lot of aha moments, and I realized that a huge amount of good things that happened to me is because I crossed a boundary, whether it be in genre, when I wandered into country music with Kenny Chesney, or in my career as a musician at all, which actually all started from the fact that I got arrested for underage drinking and then the music, I had already been recording the music, but when I turned it in as my like, mea culpa, I'll never do it again, they had never gotten anything like that. And the feedback and the positive energy that I felt from that felt like I was getting the handcuffs removed from me."

"But I think that's the reason I've always felt a little bit, not like an invader, but definitely like, yeah, I'm Luke Skywalker in the Cloud City. I'm not necessarily supposed to be where I am, but I'm there, and there's nothing anyone can do about it," Potter said with a smile.

About her excitement over the upcoming album and her new song, Potter shared, "It's really a thrill to get to this point where, this is a long time coming. Not as long as 'Medicine,' which was 17 years in the making, but this was like five or six years of piecing together a lot of my heart and weaving it together in a way that I had never tried before. So, it's exciting to share because it's again extremely different from my usual fare."

Trespasser drops on August 21 this summer, and the album can be pre-saved now. "Love Me Not" is already streaming wherever you get your music. And, for fans who would like to see Potter performing live, she will be touring with Zac Brown Band this summer, for 11 dates on their Love & Fear Tour.

Those dates include two nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and two nights at the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. Tickets and more information can be found on Zac Brown Band's website.

1983 Hit Film, With Soft Rock Theme Song, Still Holds a Perfect Rating

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:00am

In 1983, a comedy-drama film captured viewers’ attention with distinct storytelling and an unforgettable soundtrack.

Decades later, Local Hero still holds its charm for new generations of audiences and boasts a flawless rating, proving its timeless appeal.

Written and directed by Bill Forsyth, the beloved Scottish film centers around the protagonist Mac MacIntyre, played by Peter Riegert, a Houston-based oil executive who was sent by his eccentric billionaire boss Felix Happer, portrayed by Burt Lancaster, to Ferness, a fictional remote Scottish coastal village, with the goal of acquiring the entire town to construct a massive oil refinery.

Amid the eagerness of the cash-strapped locals to sell their properties, something about the town’s laid-back and slow-paced life caught his attention. He was charmed by its simplicity, which prompted him to undergo a profound personal transformation.

Although it failed to achieve box office success at the time of its release, Local Hero is now considered an iconic movie and a force that redefined Scottish cinema.

Rotten Tomatoes, a film and television review aggregation website, gave the movie a solid 100 percent on the Tomatometer, a rating that reflects the percentage of positive reviews given by critics.

In a list that includes 100 movies with a perfect Tomatometer score, Local Hero secured the 63rd spot.

Moreover, critics also praised the ensemble cast as a mix of notable stars anchored by Hollywood legend Burt Lancaster and Peter Riegert along with emerging talent and young actors from Glasgow’s youth theater group.

At the time, the director wanted an A-list star to portray a lead role, but getting one was a challenge, especially due to the financial constraints on the budget.

"The first thing that Bill had said to me when he delivered the screenplay was, 'I'd like Burt Lancaster to play Happer," film producer David Puttnam recalled , as cited by the BBC, noting that the actor’s salary took up half of the film's production cost.

Moreover, it took a year to get Lancaster on board, but it was worth it.

Meanwhile, special recognition was given by the critics to Lancaster, who was said to “get better with age,” while Riegert was described as “effective as his ambassador.”

Additionally, film reviewers hailed Local Hero as a “Scottish-American charmer with a sublime soundtrack,” referring to "Going Home."

Performed by Dire Straits frontman and guitarist Mark Knopfler, the track is known for its saxophone solo by Michael Brecker that perfectly aligned with the vocalist’s understated delivery, capturing a distinct soft rock sound.

Local Hero earned multiple nominations at the 37th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), which include Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor for Burt Lancaster, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Music Score for Mark Knopfler but ended up winning Best Direction.

'Dutton Ranch' Premiere Ending Explained: Beth and Rip’s 'Fresh Start' Already Has a Body Count

Fri, 05/15/2026 - 8:00am

SPOILER ALERT! The following includes full details for Dutton Ranch Episodes 1 & 2, "The Untold Want"and "Earn Another Day."

Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) may have left Yellowstone behind, but the bodies are already piling up in Texas.

When Yellowstone ended, Beth and Rip finally found their happy ending, leaving the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch behind after purchasing a smaller property near Dillon, Montana — a place where they hoped to build a quieter life away from the power struggles and bloodshed that consumed the Dutton family for years. But within the opening minutes of Paramount+’s Dutton Ranch, those plans quickly fall apart. Following a devastating fire that destroys their Montana property, Beth and Rip relocate to Rio Paloma, Texas, where they attempt to rebuild their lives once again on the newly acquired Dutton Ranch.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news& celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

The two-episode premiere wastes little time throwing the couple into a fresh wave of calamity. Beth immediately clashes with neighboring 10 Petal Ranch owner Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), who in many ways feels like the Texas version of John Dutton (Kevin Costner): fiercely protective of her land, deeply rooted in ranching tradition, and unwilling to back down from a fight.

While Beth clashes with Beulah, she unexpectedly finds an ally in Everett McKinney (Ed Harris), a veterinarian who helps her navigate the people, politics, and realities of ranch life in South Texas. Meanwhile, Rip focuses on rebuilding operations with the help of Azul (J.R. Villarreal), a longtime hand who stayed on after the sale, and ex-convict Zachariah (Marc Menchaca).

Carter (Finn Little), now 19 years old and in high school, struggles to adapt to life in Texas and quickly finds himself pulled into trouble after defending a mysterious girl named Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), unaware that she’s a member of the powerful Jackson family. As tensions escalate across the two ranches, Dutton Ranch steadily establishes Texas as every bit as dangerous and complicated as Montana ever was.

Related: ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Dutton Ranch’ Announces Shocking Departure Three Weeks Before Premiere

But the two-episode premiere’s biggest storyline centers on a murder that threatens to drag Beth and Rip into another cycle of violence and cover-ups. Early in Episode 1, Beulah’s reckless son Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) kills a ranch hand and buries the body on the Dutton Ranch. By the end of the episode, Rip discovers the corpse while out riding the property, setting up the mystery that drives much of Episode 2.

As the ranchhand's wife begins searching for answers and suspicion starts to build, Rip quietly takes matters into his own hands, secretly removing the body and dumping it down an abandoned mine shaft under the cover of darkness. It’s a chilling reminder that no matter how far Beth and Rip run from Yellowstone, the violence and moral compromises tied to the Dutton name continue to follow them.

Keep reading for our spoiler-filled recap of the first two episodes of Dutton Ranch.

John Dutton is gone, but not forgotten

John Dutton may be gone, but Dutton Ranch makes it clear his presence still looms large over Beth and Rip’s lives. The Yellowstone patriarch is referenced multiple times across the first two episodes, reinforcing just how much of the couple’s worldview was shaped by him. In Episode 1, shortly after arriving in Texas, Beth admits to Rip that she misses her father. Rip responds with a heartfelt reminder that, despite everything they lost, “We brought the best part of your father with us.”

Episode 2 continues that theme in a lighter moment involving Carter’s growing feelings for Oreana. After noticing Carter was distracted by the girl’s mixed signals, Rip offers some relationship advice passed down from John himself. “I asked John, ‘What’s the key to a successful relationship?’” Rip recalls. “He said, ‘The first day she’s right. The second day she’s right again. And the third day you’re f—ing wrong.’” It’s a funny exchange, but also another reminder that even in Texas, John Dutton’s influence continues to shape the family he left behind.

The new “Train Station”

Trailers for Dutton Ranch showed Rip disposing of a body, and the first two episodes finally reveal the full story behind the moment. The corpse belongs to the ranch hand murdered by Rob-Will and carelessly buried on Dutton Ranch property before Rip eventually discovers it and quietly takes care of the problem himself. It's a scene that immediately evokes one of Yellowstone’s most infamous locations: the “Train Station.”

Throughout Yellowstone, the Train Station served as the Dutton family’s unofficial dumping ground, a remote lawless area where enemies, secrets, and inconvenient problems disappeared forever. While Dutton Ranch trades desolate Wyoming cliffs for a Texas mine shaft, the symbolism feels very familiar. Beth and Rip may have left Yellowstone behind, but the franchise’s tradition of making bodies disappear clearly came with them. And considering this new dumping ground is underground instead of off a cliff, maybe fans should start calling it “The Subway.”

Beth and Rip 2.0?

Watching Oreana and Carter interact in the first two episodes, it’s hard not to see shades of a younger Beth and Rip. Like Beth, Oreana comes from a powerful ranching family and carries herself with the same fearless confidence and rebellious streak. She knows what she wants, refuses to be intimidated, and has no patience for anyone trying to control her.

Carter, meanwhile, mirrors many of Rip’s quieter qualities. Brooding, fiercely protective, and more comfortable showing loyalty through actions than words, Carter often feels like the strong, silent counterbalance to Oreana’s fire. Whether Dutton Ranch intentionally positions them as the next generation’s version of Beth and Rip remains to be seen, but the parallels are already hard to ignore.
